Hey guys! My housemate and I met on spare room and he ended up moving in three months ago. We took out a joint tenancy which included both of our names and was fixed for six months at which point it would either switch to a rolling contract or either of us could leave and the contact would end. We still have three months left of the contact, however yesterday he text me stating that he was moving out this week and wont be paying any more bills including council tax, gas and electricity, water and internet leaving me £170 short each month for the next three months. I had already paid the bills for the month going forward at that point and he gave me absolutely no notice whatsoever that he would be moving out. He's gone back home until tomorrow but we have been texting about the issue and he is point blank refusing to pay for any of the bills going forward, including this month, and has now said he wont engage with me any further and that I should sort it out with the letting agents. Obviously this isn't the letting agents problem however I did speak to them to ask for advice and they were nice enough to give me some advice saying he is 100% liable for his half of the bills, especially the council tax until the end of the tenancy. I understand his point around he will not be using utilities such as gas and electric, however there are standing charges associated with these utilities just to keep them running that would be applied even if no one was in the house for the next three months that would still need paying. They are also calculated over the year so you pay the same amount over summer as you do in winter to cover the higher amount of usage in the winter. This would mean I would carry on paying for his winter energy use over the summer. He also agreed to pay a set rate for water and internet whilst living here as well and is keeping his key so would still have access to the property and use of the utilities if he wanted to.
I live in England.
My question is can I take him to small claims court over this and if so what are my chances of winning and do I have a leg to stand on? I'm aware that it can be a lengthy process but I'm willing to follow it through
Also can I deliver the Letter Before Claim by hand to him or does it have to be through post?
Any other advice anyone can offer me you be very much appreciated

I play video games here and there, I'm currently obsessed with Stardew Valley. I enjoy making my letters visually appealing and fun to open/read, like their own little art experience.

• I would love to write to others who will reply to me in long letters. I tend to send letters of 2+ pages. Give me a topic, and I will find a way to write about it for ages. If you like to ramble too, then I'm your guy.
• Fellow animal lovers! I will gladly sneak photos from work and my own pets into my letters.
• Creative, artistic people. This isn't required, but I love exchanging stickers and other cute things. I like to put a lot of effort into my letters, and I like receiving that too.

TL;DR: I engaged my mum's solicitor to help with probate & IHT after her death and she's become unresponsive. Not sure whether to handle it myself or engage another solicitor.

• The total value of the estate is above the relevant IHT threshold, but her bank account can cover the tax.
• I'm the executor and sole beneficiary.

My mum died in September and I engaged her solicitor to help with probate and IHT. My mum had used her for her will and LPA and she was great. She was initially helpful and responsive and guided me through what info I'd need to get for her. Due to more personal issues on top of this and delays on my end, I wasn't able to start sending any of it to her until February. I'd sent everything by mid-March. Since then it's been unworkable. Our last exchange was after weeks of no response from her; she emailed asking for one more bit of info, saying she'd email me a draft of the forms. Two weeks later without any email from her I was surprised to receive the actual IHT forms in the post for me to sign, but they have some errors. I asked her about this via email 2.5 weeks ago. No response again.
Since I have the mostly filled-in IHT forms that I could copy, I'm wondering if it's simple enough to do the rest myself. I have a few concerns:

• I assume some important bits of this would be done via post with no other notification. I live in the EU but have mostly been in England since she died and need to get home. I don't want to risk dealing with international mail, so I guess I'd have to fly over to check & send post. A solicitor would help there.
• The inaccuracies in the forms. The most significant: incorrect DOB and transposed numbers in the tax amount on IHT423. These are the only two significant ones I've noticed, but they seem pretty bad. I'm worried about others I haven't caught. Also, I believe IHT interest had started before she sent the forms to me, but she's filled them in as if there's none.
• The possibility of HMRC challenging the figures. The property value was the average of 3 estate agent valuations but I've read that it's very possible this gets challenged. Also, my mum wanted to pay for all my expenses to visit her post-COVID but she was disabled and unable to do it herself. This was a verbal agreement and I had lasting power of attorney but I never got around to working out much money to transfer before she died. The solicitor put the total down as a liability on IHT400 as "attorney expenses (as agreed)". Without being specific, this reduces the tax to pay by a bit under 10%. I assume HMRC are likely to accept this, otherwise she wouldn't have put it down?

Okay, so I need some help. I'm just completely at a loss here and am so confused. I did what everyone said to do at the beginning of March and applied for PSFL and IDR and I cannot get an answer on what to do.
I am a teacher that has worked at a qualifying school for the 10+ years. I consolidated my loans through Mohela and turned in the paperwork for PSFL back at the beginning of March. I also went ahead and filed for the IDR plan because I cannot afford the 600ish dollar per month payment. I was pre approved for a 0 dollar payment (yay for being a poor teacher)
About 3 weeks after I applied for PSFL I got a letter from Mohela stating that I did not turn in my portion of the PSFL loan that I sign and I had only turned in the portion my employee signed. Okay, Honest mistake.
Around the same time I also get a letter stating that my proof of income was not the right paperwork. I haven't done my taxes in two years so I read that you can turn in a letter pretty much self reporting your income, family size, etc. and in most instances they will accept that. On a side note, I do find it odd that this paper I submitted didn't count for me but counted for my wife and we literally submitted the same paper for my wife and she was approved for the 0 dollar payment for IDR.
I received the letter about the incorrect paperwork for PSFL and IDR just before April first. I wasn't sure exactly what I needed to do so I called Mohela and actually got in touch with them. I was instructed to resubmit my PSFL paperwork with my signature and turn in a copy of mine and my wifes last paystub for the IDR. However, because it was going to take another 3 weeks until the IDR could be approved they did a forbearance for me and that meant my next payment wouldn't be due until May 2nd.
Well over the past week I have been trying to contact Mohela (without success) because I still haven't been approved for the IDR or PSFL. Just kept saying status pending. I have been trying to get in touch with them before the PSFL stuff was transferred over to studentaid.gov, but that obviously didn't happen. I logged in today to student aid and it now says that I do not qualify for the PSFL because one or more of my loans are in forbearance.
So, I'm not sure who I need to call to talk about the PSFL application now. Is it being denied because I am on the temporary forbearance? It's all so god damn confusing. Not to mention my payment of 600+ dollars is due today so I have to pray I can finally get through to Mohela to get another forbearance. It's really disheartening because I'm watching teachers all around me have their student loans forgiven and here I am just stuck in limbo.

Cycle 0705 Filed 1/28 Accepted 1/29 Saw no movement so I called in February Confirmed with my employer that they did indeed send out my earned income/wages
Received the IRS CP05 Notice 3/11 Received additional 60 days notice 4/28 Called IRS multiple times and even tried the Tax Advocate who stated they can assist me until after JULY Got my NYS Congressman involved on 4/29 Today 5/2 the Congressman office spoke to an IRS Representative on my behalf…. The IRS had the audacity to say the never received my W2 from my employer and that’s why it’s on hold. ALLLLLLLLLL these weeks and months, WHY can’t they just say this when you call. Or better yet on the IRS Transcript list a code saying why it’s delayed.
Anyway…now the IRS stated I need to send in paystubs from last year and a letter from my employer. I’ve been at the same job for 4 years now. This is the first time I ever filed early and ever had this issue. So now it’s a longer waiting game at this rate. Did anyone experience this or missing wages hasn’t been the issue?

Luka Doncic dominated for Dallas, scoring a game-high 35 points on 14-26 field goal shooting while also dishing for a game-high 10 assists. He outscored George and Harden combined in game five, which is enormously important because the game five winner in a series tied 2-2 goes on to take the series more than 80% of the time. Doncic has led the league in playoff scoring in each of the past two seasons, and even though he is hobbling around with various injuries he is still averaging 30.2 ppg versus the Clippers.

The Mavericks' excellence under pressure is the main story--along with the reality that Jason Kidd is an underrated coach--but Harden's horrific play must not be ignored. I've been saying it for a decade, but it seems like no one listens and no one learns: no team with James Harden in a key role is going to win a championship--and if you liked game five Harden, wait until you see elimination game Harden.

Harden being Harden should not obscure the fact that the self-proclaimed "Playoff P" entered the chat as well. Paul George might be Harden's long lost cousin, because they have the same playoff DNA: when all the chips are down, they fall down. George shot .420 or worse from the field in nine of his 18 playoff series prior to 2024, and he is hovering just above .420 in this series heading into a win or go home game six. In his three playoff games when his team faced elimination since joining the Clippers, George has shot 6-15 (.400), 5-15 (.333), and 4-16 (.250), so it will be fascinating to watch Harden and George work their game six magic on Friday night in Dallas.

Maybe I don't get it, but here goes. I own shares of 3 different thoroughbred race horses. 1, I get a K-1 for every year. Easy peasy. This year I picked up 2 more from a different place. They don't send a K-1 but told me that I need to do a Schedule C. Ok, this is news to me but I trudge on.
I use the online software from the green logo company with 2 letters to do my taxes as I've done for the last 6 years. Since I've never had to do a Schedule C before I purchased the Tax Pro option to make sure I've done it right. So I've got 8.5k worth of expenses last year and no income. But it didn't seem to make any difference to my tax liability.
Shouldn't it have been a credit against income. BTW, I also work for a living, to pay for the hay, and get a W-2.
Any help (knowledge) would be helpful going forward.

Does anyone else find it fishy that the rules of their contest say "no purchase necessary" at the top, but they don't give an alternate method of entry?
Also, the prize/chances don't seem worth it to me. To enter, you have to order 20 copies of any of your books, and 3 winners are drawn to get an additional 20 copies for free.
If it were 10 copies to enter to win 10 more, I'd consider using the code at checkout to enter because I'm planning on ordering 10 anyway--but 20 just feels like too much.
I asked support through my account portal about not including an alternate method of entry, and they responded so it's not like this is a spoofed email/site pretending to be IngramSpark, but the person that responded glossed over my question.
Anyway, my understanding is contests are supposed to have an alternate method, that's what "no purchase necessary" means, and the fact that they don't means this is, I believe, an illegal lottery and could potentially be reported to the FTC as a scam.
