2024.05.17 11:01 MrsTaco18 Breast Pump Induction at 38+1: positive unmedicated birth

I never see any posts about breast pump inductions so I wanted to share my experience!
For some background, my first labour was a precipitous labour at 38+5, and we live an hour from the hospital. I made it there at 10cm just in time to push. Because of this, my midwife had advocated for a planned home birth or induction to avoid an accidental unattended home or car birth. I initially wanted a home birth but my husband wasn’t comfortable with that so we took it off the table. I didn’t love the idea of inducing either but we kept this option open.
I went to see the midwife on May 5 to be checked. I was 38+1. At this appointment, I was 4cm and baby was already pushing into the birth canal. My midwife was very uncomfortable with the idea of us driving back home, knowing how fast this baby would come and how close I was to labour. So we decided to try the breast pump and see what happened!
Within 5 minutes of pumping, I started having contractions. We did an hour on the pump (15 mins on, 5 off). I could talk through the contractions but they did start to get more intense and closer together. My midwife suggested we break my water, so we did that and within minutes my contractions went full force, the same as with my first labour. We left for the hospital which was 5 minutes away.
Once at the hospital the contractions were coming strong and fast. I remember asking my midwife to check to see if I should be pushing yet and she said she would check me at 6:00. She got me a TENS machine, but it wasn’t even in place yet before I felt an extremely strong urge to push. My husband said he could see baby’s head! I wasn’t ready to push, I was still wearing my nice robe and socks, and I had wanted to get the squat bar set up like I did with my first, but there was no time. 10 minutes later baby girl was out and in my arms.
I remember trying my hardest to control my pushes to avoid tearing, and it worked! Fighting the urge to get her out NOW was so difficult but I managed to pace it with small pushes with help from the midwife. She was in my arms at 5:45, which was about 40 minutes after we arrived at the hospital and an hour after my water broke.
I am so happy we chose to induce labour with the pump so we could do it in a controlled way with my midwife there through it all. I also felt it was a very natural way to induce, using my body’s own oxytocin, and it was clear how ready my body was to deliver. Rather than forcing labour I felt like we gently nudged it, and my body took it from there.
Baby Amelia has been absolutely perfect so far and I’ve been lucky to have an easy recovery. We will be celebrating her due date this weekend and she’ll be two weeks old already. If I end up having a third child I will absolutely plan another induction this way!

2024.05.17 11:00 hairysharky USB-C port does not work (sometimes).

Hello,
maybe someone can help me with my problem or has some tips and tricks to try out.
I have had a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Pro X for about 1 1/2 years, which still has a six-month warranty at the moment.
Since this year - and more frequently in the last few weeks - one of the two USB-C ports does not work from time to time, but it is always the same one. In total, the problem has now occurred four or five times.
Shutting down and restarting only works if the laptop is switched off for a few hours before it is restarted.
Drivers are all up to date
No updates are currently pending (BIOS was only updated last week)
Windows Fastboot has also been deactivated recently in an attempt to solve the problem. Unfortunately it did not work.
What other things can I try? Is this a hardware or software problem? I did a hardware-scan through Lenovo Vantage the other day and it said all USB ports are working properly, but obviously they aren't.
To add: In the last two or three days the USB-C port won't work at all.

2024.05.17 11:00 Elysiumthistime Any Women in Here Doing It Alone?

Hi! I'm hoping to hear some positive stories from women who've gone out and started a homestead from scratch by themselves.
I've known for almost my entire adult life that this is how I want to live my life. I've been searching and saving for the perfect property for years. I was dating a man for a couple years who was on the same page and we were intending to start our homestead together but that relationship didn't work out but I don't want to give up on my dream, despite not having the knowledge and skills that he would have contributed (he was very handy, had lots of farming experience, could build anything and knew his way around every kind of machine imaginable).
The thought of doing it all alone is simultaneously freeing and daunting. I love the idea of not having to consult anyone in my decision making but I also know that I have a steep learning curve ahead of me. I have a good knowledge and understanding with regards to animal husbandry, gardening and food preservation but when it comes to building, using machinery or well anything DIY related, I genuinely suck and find it all very stressful. How screwed am I?
I'm currently in the process of purchasing a property. It's nothing too fancy, a small bungalow on a 1 acre plot. I have lots of visions for how I want to transform it which would involve some landscaping (so would require a digger) and construction of at least two small barns/shelters (one for pigs and one for goats).
If there's any women in here who've done similar and gone it alone, I'd sincerely love to hear your story and welcome any advice you can give me. The house is requiring some repairs before I can proceed with the sale so I have a couple months to prepare and I want to use that time wisely.
Thank in advance :)

2024.05.17 10:59 TwoAvailable3760 My man shut down and then broke up with me - please give me insight

Hey, I tried to resist but I gotta ask because it is eating me alive. This is my situation.
The guy I was dating and I were madly in love since day 1. But I wasnt ready at first and he is kinda older than me (23 - 35), he also got sickness (lupus) and used to have a great job in military/government but had to quit it like 2 years ago because of his sickness. It was instant connection and he was very honest about his feelings but I didnt want to confess unless I was truly confident about my love. We lost contact then and gosh losing him was exactly what made me realize I cant let this person go. So we have got back in touch and started dating since the end of December. Things were absolutely great, and then my mental health deteriorated (too many reasons, not one was because of him). And then what happened was:
The thing is guys: this was a conflict that started with his job, him not thinking about discussing it with me (he said he never had to discuss his work with his women before) and not solving things. But he got so lost in his head that when we met 2 weeks before the breakup, he kept saying things like: what do I even want from this life? I have got my illness, and at my age, what do I want anymore...(he had these thoughts prior to dating me, as if he believed his life would not change anymore; when we got together, he was so happy, as if he realized that there truly is something out there for him; but one bigger conflict and it felt like he got scared, as if this all was just an illusion and it would end in him getting hurt). it felt like he was just giving in to his insecurities and finding reasons why it is not worth to try.
It is gonna be a month since the BU soon. And it will be another month til we meet up. So almost 2 months will pass before we meet. Guys, I think it was a good thing for him to break up with me, because only time and space can bring him clarity and get him out of his head. But does it really help? What can I expect?
P.S. I am trying to move on. I am keeping the door open cause I know I needed space to realize I dont want to lose him. But if he wont be ready to come back, I will accept it.

2024.05.17 10:52 No_Dust118 QC Help Datejust 41mm 126334 VSF

I recently purchased my second rep so I am a newbie. I received QC on new Rolex DateJust 41MM 126334 SS VSF 1:1 Best Edition Green Fluted Dial on SS Jubilee Bracelet VS3235. The first Timegrapher test indicated an Amplitude of 238. I asked them to re-run the test. The second test resulted in the Amplitude at 249.
First thank you to all the contributors for helping to set standards and educating me on what is acceptable and ideal when it comes to standards. The standards indicate that Acceptable range is 250-270 and Ideal is 270-310. I am very novice but low Amplitude indicates big of a swing (degrees of rotation) the balance wheel moves per oscillation. Low amplitude generally means a larger problem with the power transmission causing less than needed energy to be delivered to the escapement. The standards I have seen here indicate any watch that has an Amplitude below 250 should be RL and you should ask for a new watch.
So based on the second test resulting in 249 ( right on the cusp of Acceptable range ) but still below, I am thinking of RL and asking for another watch. Your opinion appreciated. On the one hand I don't want to receive a watch that soon after I have to service and on the other I don't know enough that a 249 score versus the base of 250 would be a standard that would make someone RL a watch. Hoping you can provide some feedback as to what is the right thing to do. Thank you.

2024.05.17 10:50 David_Root Guide to Construction Financing and Builder's Mortgages in Ontario

Guide to Construction Financing and Builder's Mortgages in Ontario
Commercial Lending
Construction projects, whether residential or commercial, require substantial capital investment. In Ontario, builders and developers have access to specialized financing options known as construction financing and builder's mortgages. These financial instruments are designed to provide the necessary funds for new construction projects while offering flexible repayment terms tailored to the unique needs of the construction industry.
Construction Financing: The Backbone of Building Projects
Construction financing is a short-term lending solution that provides funds to cover the various costs associated with a construction project, including land acquisition, materials, labor, and other related expenses. This type of financing is typically offered by banks, credit unions, and specialized lenders who have expertise in the construction industry.
The process of obtaining construction financing typically involves submitting a detailed project plan, budget, and schedule, along with supporting documents such as architectural drawings, permits, and contractor agreements. Lenders will carefully evaluate the project's viability, the borrower's creditworthiness, and the potential for future cash flow generation.
Once approved, construction financing is typically disbursed in stages, with funds released as predetermined construction milestones are reached. This approach allows lenders to monitor the progress of the project and mitigate potential risks.
Builder's Mortgages: A Specialized Solution for Ontario Builders
Builder's mortgages, also known as construction mortgages, are a specialized form of financing designed specifically for builders and developers in Ontario. These mortgages are tailored to the unique requirements of the construction industry, offering flexible terms and repayment options that align with the project's timeline.
One of the key advantages of a builder's mortgage is the ability to finance both the land acquisition and construction costs under a single loan. This streamlined approach simplifies the financing process and reduces the administrative burden for builders.
Additionally, builder's mortgages often feature interest-only payments during the construction phase, providing cash flow relief until the project is completed and revenue starts flowing in. Once the construction is finished and the units or properties are sold, the remaining principal balance can be paid off in full or refinanced into a more traditional mortgage.
Updates on Construction Financing in Ontario
The construction financing landscape in Ontario has experienced several notable updates in recent years, reflecting the evolving needs of the industry and changing economic conditions. Here are some key developments:
  1. Tightened Lending Criteria: In response to economic uncertainties and potential risks, some lenders have tightened their lending criteria for construction financing and builder's mortgages. This may include stricter requirements for borrower qualifications, higher down payment requirements, and more stringent project evaluation processes.
  2. Increased Focus on Environmental Sustainability: With a growing emphasis on environmental sustainability, lenders are increasingly factoring in green building practices and energy efficiency measures when evaluating construction financing applications. Projects that incorporate sustainable design and construction methods may be viewed more favorably by lenders.
  3. Government Incentives and Programs: The Ontario government has introduced various incentives and programs to support the construction industry, including tax credits, grants, and subsidies for specific types of projects, such as affordable housing or energy-efficient buildings.
Real-Time Tips for Securing Construction Financing in Ontario
  1. Develop a Comprehensive Business Plan: A well-crafted business plan that outlines the project's scope, timeline, budget, and projected returns is essential for securing construction financing. Lenders will scrutinize this document to assess the project's viability and potential risks.
  2. Establish a Strong Credit Profile: Maintaining a solid credit history and a healthy debt-to-income ratio can significantly improve your chances of obtaining favorable financing terms. Address any credit issues proactively and provide supporting documentation to lenders.
  3. Leverage Industry Expertise: Partnering with experienced contractors, architects, and other professionals in the construction industry can strengthen your financing application. Their expertise and track record can instill confidence in lenders regarding the project's successful execution.
  4. Explore Alternative Financing Options: In addition to traditional lenders, consider exploring alternative financing options such as private equity firms, crowdfunding platforms, or joint venture partnerships. These alternatives may offer more flexible terms and conditions.
  5. Stay Informed about Industry Trends and Regulations: Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, regulatory changes, and government initiatives that may impact construction financing. This knowledge can help you navigate the financing process more effectively and identify potential opportunities or challenges.
FAQs
1. How much down payment is typically required for construction financing in Ontario? The down payment requirements can vary depending on the lender and the specific project, but generally range from 20% to 35% of the total project cost.
2. Can construction financing be used for renovations or additions? Yes, construction financing can be utilized for renovations, additions, or any project that involves significant construction work.
3. How long does the construction financing process typically take? The timeline can vary, but the process typically takes several weeks to months, including the application review, project evaluation, and approval stages.
4. What happens if the construction project goes over budget? Lenders typically require a contingency fund to cover potential cost overruns. If the overrun exceeds the contingency, additional financing or personal funds may be required to complete the project.
5. Can construction financing be converted to a traditional mortgage after project completion? Yes, many lenders offer the option to convert construction financing into a long-term mortgage once the project is completed and the property is ready for occupancy or sale.
By understanding the intricacies of construction financing and builder's mortgages in Ontario, builders and developers can navigate the financing process more effectively, access the necessary funds for their projects, and contribute to the growth and development of the construction industry in the province.

2024.05.17 10:43 cozwez Single men in their 30's who would like a family and are interested in homeownership. Question..

I know I'll get skewed results because this is Ausfinance. Are you actively saving/preparing to be able to achieve this with a partner in the near future? I am ~30F and would like these things, earn a good income, have 60K saved and maxing super for FHSSS. I'm considering buying a unit in the next 1-2 years if I am still single. I guess what I'm saying is I have a plan despite not knowing who with/if it will happen the way I'd like.
I've dated people who don't think this way and aren't interested in financial literacy or stability, and obviously we're incompatible. I guess I just want some reassurance you're out there!

2024.05.17 10:41 Few-King9360 Apply for skilled worker visa renewal before 3 month's work start date on COS. (Is 1 day considered to be too early?)

According to the Home office, I just found that workers should apply around 3 months from the work start date on CoS. However, I submitted the application and provided everything on 14 May just to realize that my work start date on my new CoS is 15 Aug, so it would be 1 day just before the 3-month threshold.
Does anyone know the recommendation? I called to home office, they just said that I have to wait for the mail from the decision team.
Will I get rejected by this?

2024.05.17 10:38 Fun_Cartoonist9196 M25 confused about the situation I am in

So I started talking with this girl for 1.5 months and we even went on a date and everything was smooth. But recently her behaviour has changed, we both are 23+ age wise.
We have talked about most things about our past relationship & sex, movies, music and everything is good. I just have dated once and it was 3+ years of relationship, while she has been in relationship multiple times but the relationship never have lasted more than 8-9 months and apparently she has attachment issues. 20 days back she asked me out for a movie and we went for a movie and had a fun date. I have told her I do like her and I wait for her at the end of the day so we can talk, and she'd told me she would also wait for the same.
15 days back she started her job, and the Job timings are odd, 1:30 PM to 10:30 PM. But we used to talk for 2-3 hours during the night after her job and then she asked me if we could go for a Trek that's nearby.
But since the last 4-5 days her behaviour has changed and we aren't talking as we used to do, she sends me good morning and good night texts and she calls me once for 10-15 mins. The rest of the time she says that she's busy and all.
I am just confused about what happened, is she really that busy or she just got bored and soft ghosting me or am I just overthinking? Should I confront her for her behaviour or I should just cut her off? If you have any idea or anything about this kind of behaviour please help me out.
