2024.05.29 21:35 According-Ring-8678 ALL THE POSSIBLE LEADS SO FAR

Possible but unconfirmed leads: Kinetic Dissent and Z'Rose
Unlikely leads: H. Kristal, Sentinel, Zion (they became Dragonne and I listened to them, and I doubt they changed the voice and the style so much)
The bands Iced Earth, Talon, Battallion, Eviscerator and Dungeon Masters (or Dragon Master) were all suggested by Charles Markward, but we have zero proofs it could be one of them (the first two are implausible: Iced Earth is way too famous and Talon doesn't correspond to his description and also, there aren't any proofs for the existence of the last three)
The Possible DJ that played the song: I don't have facebook, so it doesn't let me see the profile: https://www.facebook.com/patrick.dawsey but according to these comments, it's most likely him: https://www.reddit.com/Lostwave/comments/kcsui4/comment/gfuf4c7/
We know the song likely uses a rockman amplifier https://www.reddit.com/thefalloftheking/comments/1csu48x/the_fall_of_the_king_uses_a_rockman_amplifie
OTHER POTENTIAL LEADS:
This user found a simillarity with "Battle at Helm's Deep" by Attacker: https://www.reddit.com/thefalloftheking/comments/1chnfzv/after_spending_my_whole_morning_listening_to/ therefore I discovered who produced this album: https://www.metal-archives.com/albums/AttackeBattle_at_Helm%27s_Deep/2670 It's a guy called Glenn M. Taylor and it gets listed only as a producer for Attacker and he is credited for Engineering the A3 track of Scarred for life by Obsession: https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Glenn_Taylo279799 and while searching the staff in this album, I found these people:
https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Joe_Mendyk/347906 Engineering
https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Bill_Burke/138039 Engineering
https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Eddy_Schreye14684 Mastering (here is his Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/eddy.schreyer.7 his Myspace: https://myspace.com/oasismastering and his website: https://oasismastering.com/ )
And I also found the one who did the Mastering for this Attacker album, he's called Jack Skinner: https://www.metal-archives.com/artists/Jack_Skinne153711 https://www.discogs.com/artist/366035-Jack-Skinner
One of this guy may have worked for our song.
Also, I found a channel on Texan Underground Metal Music, it's called TXmetalunderground: https://www.youtube.com/@TXmetalunderground/videos and I also found their website:https://tmurecords.bandcamp.com/ They describe themselves as an "archive of the classic Texas metal scene". This channel could know our song (hopefully)

2024.05.28 08:15 unrulygecko Ultimate Ability Tier List

Ultimate Ability Tier List
Hey guys! Here's my tier list for ultimate abilities. The placements are based on my opinion through 10 years of playing this game.
Here is my criteria for each tier:
S - Overpowered, (almost) always pick this ultimate, can win a fight by itself
A - Very good ultimate, pick this most of the time, can turn the tide of a teamfight
B - Average, solid pick, will almost always get some value
C - Counter or niche pick, can be effective in specific scenarios
D - Bad pick, these ults are not useless, but they almost always get less value than the other ultimate
F - Useless, gets almost no value, other ultimate choice is better 100% of the time
I judged each ultimate based on three things: how consistently the ultimate gets value (are there many scenarios where the ultimate can be used), how impactful the ultimate is (when used, does the ultimate win a teamfight/save someone really well?), and how closely the ultimate competes with another ultimate.
For example, Twilight Dream pretty consistently gets value against at least one target, and is very impactful when used. However, Twilight Dream competes with Tranquility, which almost all high level Malfurions take, as Tranquility is a really powerful save tool, especially with the 20 upgrade. As a result, Twilight Dream is not picked very often, and is therefore in C tier. The same can be said for ults like Judgement, Bloodlust, or even something like Mind Control, which in a vacuum are all very powerful ultimates, but they often cannot compete with that hero's other ultimate choice, and are ranked lower as a result
Another example: Holy Word: Salvation (Anduin's protect ultimate) gets amazing value when fully channeled, arguably more value than Lightbomb would get. However, it is hard to fully channel, as the enemy team will often have multiple interrupts. Since it suffers in the first criteria (how consistently the ult gets value), it is ranked in C tier.
I took into account the level 20 upgrades for each hero when ranking the ultimates, which is why something like Carrion Swarm is in A tier instead of B tier.

2024.05.23 05:25 KreamSodaRadio No Labels. No Platforms. The Mass Exodus From Social Media & The Return Of Guerrilla Marketing

No Labels. No Platforms.
There, I said it. We got the talking part out of the way.
Now what does this look like when applied?
Am I crazy? Is this a knee-jerk reaction from some guy that’s just had enough of trying to fit into whatever cookie-cutter bullshit is hot this week?
Possibly, but let me explain-
I was born in 1980. Let’s get that out of the way off top so you know what tone to read this diatribe in.
I was barely a walking, talking human by the time of Regan’s inauguration. This ushered in the era of preppy excess on one side of the spectrum and the crack epidemic on the other. Rarely did these worlds coincide but they definitely coexisted. Suburban kids were watching the ‘Corys’ (Haim & Feldman) hoping to be the coolest kid on their block with the freshest vehicle, courtesy of mom & dad, that would surely get them the girl. The rest of us were bringing paper food stamps to school to hit the corner store during class break. And the cats we looked up too weren’t named Cory and they definitely weren’t daytime TV or even USA Up All Night material.
And the music? I can’t explain how fresh it was. You had to be there. I’m not gonna gas you up like some of these cats and attempt to explain it well enough that you ‘get it’. You have to understand that back then, a million things that are now firmly planted and rooted in our culture hadn’t happened yet-
No Biggie. No Tupac.
Nothing even remotely resembling an Eminem.
No Rock Steady Crew. No Kid Capri. No Def Comedy Jam.
No Outkast. No DJ Screw. No Three Six Mafia.
No Dipset. No Rhymesayers. No WuTang. No NWA.
None of it.
Imagine for a second that all you want to do is be Bruce Lee. Or save up enough money for a skateboard or some other semblance of identity or individuality. Then you walk by the park and see some young cat, not too much older than you, moving like a fucking robot. Better than a robot. And these big ass house speakers were drug to the park in the back of someone’s Suzuki so that the dude in the neighborhood with the dopest record and break beat collection could come down and spin and receive accolades for doing so. Over time, those accolades started to reach way past the block in which they originated. Enter The DJ-
House party flyers were probably the first tangible collectable item that was Hip Hop related. After that it was the MixTape. In the beginning, no two MixTapes were the same. You may get a dubbed tape from your boy or snatch a copy from the bootleg tables on the corner if they had their business together like that. But, for the most part, these were put together by the end user of the product itself: The Consumer. Some business savvy DJs of that time realized quick that the biggest money having mufukas they knew in real life were the drug dealers in the neighborhood. They would pay certain DJs to customize a MixTape for them that featured the bangers of that week/month/year but also the DJ shouting out the dealer that paid for the tape. Fixated on notoriety, it wouldn’t take long for money motivated individuals to position themselves beside the artists, producers and DJs of the time and, in the absence of a label, become boutique indie labels in their own right. These illicit proceeds would do more to perpetuate Hip Hop in its infancy than any corporate dollar. But these influxes would call enough attention to the culture that before we knew it, everyone from McDonald’s to the Chicago Bears would look to this new phenomenon to stay relevant.
Fast forward to the 90’s and Hip Hop was fully infused and rejuvenated with the hustler spirit. Artists like Too Short and E-40 proved that real money could be made in Hip Hop with the farm-to-table approach. It made an artist say, ‘If I create a product that is custom-fitted to my consumer, who better than I to deliver that product?’. Cutting out the middle man, artists themselves paid for and oversaw the production process, organized album art and duplication and released the product directly the streets. Selling albums literally out of the trunks of their cars as well as fostering relationships with independent record store owners who also benefited from blocking the labels out. They themselves knowing full well what it means to be force-fed label-curated top tens and other pop bullshit.
Vinyl record collections, cassette tape collections, books full of Compact Disks and in some cases DVDs with music-related documentary content. These things slowly grew as we aged and found ourselves. Even to look around at all of the items we had procured gave us a sense of who we were. The room that housed our music was like a glimpse into our soul. A snapshot with a million words and stories and moments behind it.
Now we have our phone. That’s it.
See how the words just dropped all lonely out of the paragraph like that?
It’s a sad state of affairs.
But there is hope
Billboard (Really? After all that, his source is fucking Billboard?) has reported that the sales of vinyl records has increased for 17 straight years. 43.46 million vinyl albums were sold in 2022. That’s 43% of all album sales the year over. Social media and streaming services are slowly but surely losing their grip and once again being relegated to novelty convenience applications. The curtain has been pulled back to reveal that Jay-Z’s famous line ‘Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t’ has not aged well. Saweetie has been kind enough to serve as case-in-point. The ‘rapper’ who, at the time of this writing, has an Instagram following of 12.9 million was recently roasted in the press when she dropped an EP that only sold 2,000 copies.
What In The Actual F*ck?
It that doesn’t prove to you that it doesn’t matter, you’re a lost cause and my advice to you would be to never step foot in the entertainment industry. However, if you too are bothered by this correlation (or lack there of), please read on.
We have now come full circle. Movements that preach the need to cleanse the artistic mind of the preoccupation with social media are quickly gaining popularity. Reverting back to the era when guerrilla marketing was King. The concept of a street team blanketing a city with your stickers, posters and flyers and all of the supporters and connections made while doing so is making its way back into the fold. Word of mouth advertising will never be replaced, though social media has brought us close. That may be the why the current pendulum swing is so dramatic. People are simply sick and tired of scrolling to find the meaning of life. The fact that the term ’social media cleanse’ is a thing (and has been for some time) denotes that it is dangerously pervasive. With the recent popularity and ease-of-use offered by AI, one’s first instinct would be to say to themselves, ‘Wait, that means anyone can do it’. With the all-too obvious downside being: Anyone can do it. The day Canva dropped their Magic Write AI option for document edits, i ran across at least 30 videos in which the quintessential content creator was explaining to me how this would be a game-changer in a way we could never fathom and that now, more than ever, I need to start taking my content making seriously by letting computers do all the work for me. The same work they are doing for everyone else. Except, somehow it’s supposed to be different and unique. But that’s the part they leave out. How can I be unique and on some never-before-seen shit if I’m doing precisely what everyone else is doing? Another heartbreaker for the AI buffs? Google has already put in place AI detecting technology that will automatically initiate their own form of shadow-ban on all of your SEO if they find or suspect that AI has been used to create it. But don’t fret. When you wake up tomorrow, there will a million other content creators dropping videos instructing you on how to skirt AI detection software. Do you see where I’m going with this? Is your motivation to create a commodity that is appreciated by your core audience? Or have your career goals transitioned from that to a computer hacker that minors in internet marketing?
More than ever, people crave connection with an artist, regardless of the media. Audio, video or conceptual, they want YOU.
Many artists are adjusting their focus back to website presentation. With the ease in which an artist can create their own e-commerce website through companies like Squarespace, complete with comment sections, like counts and whatever bell or whistle is commonly used to satiate the viewer.
Point is, we can do it too. We can do it better.
An artist can release a project to their own site and utilize the ‘Proud To Pay’ option where the consumer can pay as much or as little as they’d like for the download. Merchandise or other gated content can be sold right along with it. You can literally build your support system 1 fan at a time. That connection will also endear much longer than the ones garnered my viral Tik Tok or Instagram Reels. That being said, we aren’t idiots. Social Media should still receive updates from those whose main focus is there website community. The website is headquarters. There should always be more content, options, action and opportunity on your website than what is offered on social. Social should be utilized for the sole purpose of drawing traffic to YOUR PLATFORM. Say it: I Am The Platform.
I’m not telling you to delete your Instagram, FaceBook or Tik Tok.
But you should delete them from your phone.
Tim Ferris wrote The 4-Hour Work Week in 2007. In it, he laid a strategy for being less busy and more productive. Interestingly enough, this book was written the year the first iPhone dropped. But already our society was looking for anything to get them away from the rat race. The desire to always be available. A slave to what was then your BlackBerry. The need to check and reply to emails within minutes of reception. MySpace was the only social media platform to speak of at the time and even then, folks took it too far. The book spoke about setting time aside weekly to check and reply to emails. Another to check and respond to social media. The bulk remaining for actual work and whatever interaction that work required. You can set aside as little as one day a week to share all the clips of your content, respond to comments and DM’s and interact with folks you regularly interact with. What you’ll find in doing so is that your hyper focus on social media was for naught. And no one missed you while you were gone. And all that time you used to spend scrolling can be spent creating content for your website and making your community as inviting and comfortable as possible. Through email and text lists, the integrations on your own website can forward content directly to everyone who gives a fuck immediately. Stop posting content to social media FIRST hoping that whatever platform you’re on is in a good enough mood to show it to 4% of the people who actually follow you in hopes of seeing it. Ask yourself what your goal is. Do you want 1 million supporters for a year? Or 10,000 for 20 years? If you can get those 10k to spend $10 a year, you’ll never work again. Are you listening?
This entire essay was designed using no AI. It was however concocted to persuade you. Just like everything else you’ll listen to or read today. The difference? I implore you to stop listening to the noise. Even if I myself become a distraction to you, It warms my heart to know you’ll never listen again. Go. Be the most amplified version of yourself and don’t stop until you’ve pissed a lot of people off. Only then will you have created anything worth fussing over in the first place. When that happens, the world outside of that computer in your pocket will open up in ways that will make you want to leave it there. Do not waste another second looking to the next man for direction or inspiration. Get YOU out first. Fortunately, I’m not going to push you towards any apps or sites that will simplify your process. That alone will simplify your process. You’re welcome.

2024.05.20 14:30 Pitiful_Scallion_249 My Outback Road Trip - Australian Travels

Hello Everyone!
I recently did a trip driving through the Outback and I had gotten so many useful pieces of advice through Reddit, when someone asked me to post on this page once I completed my trip, I couldn't disappoint! This trip was originally going to be a solo venture, but I found a friend to join me from Melbourne up to Uluru, where she flew back to Melbourne from the Ayers Rock Airport, and I completed the rest on my own. I'm going to rant for a while and then get to the itinerary, feel free to skip all this yapping to the bottom, lol.
First, I want to summarize this by saying that this whole trip was really beautiful, its been one of my favorite things I've done since being in Australia (I've been here for three months now). I found a ten-day, $1 per day, car rental through transfercar.com.au, to move a car from Adelaide up to Darwin. I learned 10 days isn't enough, but it can still be an amazing trip if that's all the time you have.
It's a drive that cuts straight up the middle of Australia, takes you through the Outback and the Red Center. You can take a detour to the famous Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and Wattarka National Park, as well as the West MacDonnell National Park and many others. You can swim in thermal springs and marvel at waterfalls. Along the way you'll meet Grey Nomads (a recent term in my vocabulary, if it's new to you as well, they are older Australians who travel for long periods of time in Australia. They are very nice and friendly. You may find them attatched to a camper. You may find them cracking jokes at you if you keep stopping and refueling at the same roadhouses. You may not see them at night, they tend to like to go to bed early), you'll see so much red and a surprising amount of green, you'll see road trains.
When my car was approved, I started telling some people of my plans for a big Outback adventure, all were met with comments of "You're brave" "I couldn't do that" and "That's really dangerous, you shouldn't". I wondered if I made a mistake, if I should cancel the car. Obviously I didn't and the advice I got on Reddit was a big help in that end decision. On my way to Adelaide (a separate road trip from Melbourne to Adelaide using the same transfer car website) I literally had someone tell me I was going to die, kept saying it, which was something that played on repeat in my head, and now that I've successfully survived my trip, I can tell that guy to get fucked with satisfaction. So you are aware, he said these things for a few reasons, there are stretches of time there's no cell service, Alice Springs (the city in the middle of the drive) has grown a reputation for crime, and I was told by multiple people to not stop for anyone waving at your car for help because there's a good chance there are others hiding and waiting to steal your car when you pull over. You keep these things in mind, and put your safety above all else.
Things that I heard about cutting up through the middle of the country, were that it's a lot of road and not much scenery change. A do it once and check it off the list road trip. You'll probably get your car broken into in Alice Springs, and skip Tennant Creek if you know what's good for you. Some people said they loved this roadtrip. To download podcasts. It's beautiful and to send it. That it's not as isolating as it used to be and I wouldn't be alone. To enjoy the outdoors. Stock up on water and snacks, make sure you have a cooler because in the heat you'll need a cool drink. Don't go in blind.
So I did. I mentally prepared for long road days. I downloaded music and podcasts. I bought a cooler and stocked up on water and snacks. I never let my fuel get low. I made sure to book a stay in Alice Springs with gated parking and skipped Tennant Creek. I downloaded offline maps. I had everything, but the last couple days books, with the knowledge I had cell service at my third to last stop.
Now the itinerary:
DAY ONE:
Adelaide Coober Pedy
This was our biggest drive, about nine hours. Coober Pedy is a opal mining town, arguably the opal capital of the world. About 50% of the residents live underground or in excavated hills. With this trip being last minute, there wasn't a whole lot of affordable options for accommodation underground (everyone who stays in Coober Pedy wants the underground experience) so we stayed at The Underground Motel, which was excavated into a hill. It was charming and we loved it. We didn't stay long enough to enjoy a museum, but we enjoyed the time we did have there.
DAY TWO:
Coober Pedy Kings Creek Station
This was our second biggest drive (I definitely utilized having two drivers in these first days), and when we got off the Stuart Hwy and headed towards Watarrka National Park to do the famous Kings Canyon Rim Walk. We stopped in Erlunda, which is the turn off point, and spent some time hand feeding the resident emu's. We did our first night of tent camping at Kings Creek Station, sort of expensive as you have to pay per person instead of by campground ($70 for one night, seems steep for a two person tent on a patch of red dirt and no shade). Depite that little jibe, Kings Creek Station was pretty cute and had a nice little restaurant that sold camel burgers and a souviner shop and petrol station. They had all kinds of animals there; donkey's, camels, horses, dingos. You really felt like you were in the outback.
DAY THREE:
Kings Creek Station Yulara
We did the Kings Canyon Rim Walk in the morning, it's a popular 3-4 hour hike, and it's not very difficult. The start is a lot of stairs, and the whole things requires shoes with good ankle support as it's lots of uneven surfaces. After we finished our hike we drove to Yulara which is home to the Ayers Rock Resort, the only place you can stay overnight near Uluru-Kata Tjuta, it's a bunch of different styled hotels in driving loop. This is also what sparked our tent camping adventure, as everything else was way too expensive for us. We made it in time to pitch the tent and watch the sunset before cooking our own porter house steaks at the Outback BBQ restaurant.
DAY FOUR:
Yulara Full Day
We woke up at 5:30am to make it to the Uluru sunrise viewing area. I had been warned to bring cash in case the card readers were broken while getting petrol, and in this moment I was so glad for the warning, but in an unexpected way. When trying to enter the park, you pay a fee upon first entry, that's valid for three days, and their card reader was broken. As he tried to fix it, a line of cars started to form behind us needing to purchase their parks pass and anxious to make it to the sunrise. He asked if he could just write my card details for later and I was so happy I had enough cash to pay for both our tickets and didn't compromise my card. We spent the whole day exploring Uluru.
Watching an Uluru sunset at their designated viewing area is a wonderful experience!
DAY FIVE:
Yulara Full Day
This time we woke up to see the sunrise at the Kata-Tjuta viewpoint, here you can still see Uluru from a distance, I think I might have liked this sunrise spot more, but the viewing platform wasn't as big (and by big, I mean that the Uluru sunrise location had multiple walking paths as well as the platform, so it felt more spread out as some people attempted to watch it from a path). My friend left this day and I continued to explore Kata-Tjuta.
DAY SIX:
Yulara Alice Springs
Upon a suggestion, I booked my stay at the Elkira Motel because it had secure parking. After four nights in a row of tent camping and months of being in hostels, this motel felt really nice! This was a really relaxed day, I wandered around a roadhouse along the way, admired the West MacDonnell Ranges. I heard good things about the nocturnal animal tour, but opted out for a pizza and game shows on the television.
DAY SEVEN:
Alice Springs Devils Marbles
I stayed at the Devil's Marbles Hotel so I had time to explore the Devils Marbles themselves. In the most simplest of explanations with no facts, the Devils Marbles are a bunch of rock formations that don't look like they should be sitting in the ways that they are, but sometimes do. Some of them are split in the middle, but somehow haven't fallen over. The driving distance wasn't too bad, and the trails are more of a wander than an exercise, so I was able to do all the walks and then watched the sunset before returning to Devils Marbles Hotel (10 minute drive). The actual Devils Marbles has a caravan park, I believe it's first come first serve and a trust based system to pay for your stay.
DAY EIGHT:
Devils Marbles Daly Waters Pub
Daly Waters Pub is excellent, and I'm glad multiple people told me I needed to stay here. A popular pub with an outback style and many bras and shirts hanging from the rafters. The campground is first come first serve and I was warned it fills up quickly, so I ended up booking a stay in one of the pub rooms. They had live music and a goat came to jam out with the rest of us. There was also horses, donkeys, and chickens roaming around.
DAY NINE:
Daly Waters Pub Bitter Springs Campground
I really liked my stay at Bitter Springs Campground. It was a first come first server campground, I arrived at around 12:30pm and there was a good amount of nonpowered campsites still open for my tent, as the day went on, it did fill up. I first went to Mataranka Thermal Pools for a soak, then made my way to Bitter Springs, for a lazy river type of soak. Both were fun, both were thermal, still they were slightly different and both deserve to be visited.
DAY TEN:
Bitter Springs Campground Litchfield National Park
I originally was going to tent again, but by the time I arrived in Batchelor (the closest town to the NP) I was so overheated that I didn't think that a tent in shade was going to cool me down. I splurged for a room at the Banyan Tree Resort, and it was so cute! The outdooindoor barestaurant was great atmosphere. I only had time to swim in Florence Falls within the park and it was so relaxing, you swim in this swimming hole with two waterfalls, people climb the rocks and jump off. I think I went into zen mode, it was so peaceful even with other people jumping around (I wish I had more time for Litchfield).
DAY ELEVEN:
Litchfield National Park Darwin (drop off)
Not much to say here. I woke up and drove an hour to Darwin to drop off the car.

2024.05.20 00:11 AnymooseProphet Please do not mention, even as a question, precise localities

About 20 years ago when I lived in Redding, I posted a picture on myspace of a young California Kingsnake and I mentioned the specific creek where I found it.
California Kingsnakes are inexpensive in the pet trade, especially wild type, and are not difficult to find in the vicinity of Redding regardless of specific locale.
Literally two days later someone went to that small creek habitat surrounded by urban habitat and destroyed it. Every single rock was overturned without being put back, every single log was flipped without being put back, some logs were absolutely destroyed, and someone posted pictures on myspace of California Kingsnakes in a bucket from "northern california" that were the exact specific phenotype as Redding (same band count, same shade of dark bands, same crisp white cream across back that turns yellow about a third of the way to the belly) and a couple them looked a lot like kings I had seen in that destroyed habitat.
Even with something that is extremely common, like a California Kingsnake, do not post specific locales and do not ask a question with a specific locale in it.
There are people who will destroy the habitat at that locale as a result, not to mention potential poaching.
Even moreso, for species like California Mountain Kingsnakes or California Legless Lizards etc. that can fetch a high price on the black market.
Thank you,
A citizen scientist who hates seeing habitat destroyed and animals poached.
General locality, that's often needed. Specific locality, no.
Thank you.

2024.05.16 06:43 Outbacktour284 Australian Outback: Exploring the Heart of the Land Down Under

The Australian Outback, often referred to as the heart of Australia, is a vast and mesmerissing landscape that captivates visitors with its rugged beauty and untamed wilderness. Spanning across millions of square kilometers, this remote region offers a unique and unforgettable experience for those seeking adventure, tranquility, and a deeper connection with nature.

1. Introduction to the Australian Outback

The australian outback experience is a term used to describe the remote and arid interior regions of Australia, characterised by its sparse population, harsh climate, and vast open spaces. It encompasses various landscapes, including deserts, grasslands, rocky ranges, and ancient gorges, each with its own distinct beauty and allure.

2. Geographical Features of the Australian Outback

I. Vastness and Diversity
One of the defining features of the Australian Outback is its sheer vastness. Stretching across the central and western parts of the country, it covers over 70% of Australia’s landmass, making it one of the most extensive arid regions on Earth. Despite its predominantly dry and barren appearance, the Outback is surprisingly diverse, with a myriad of ecosystems supporting a wide range of flora and fauna.
II. Unique Landscapes
From the iconic red sands of the Simpson Desert to the rugged terrain of the Kimberley, the Australian Outback is home to some of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes. Visitors can marvel at ancient rock formations, such as Uluru and Kata Tjuta, explore vast salt flats like Lake Eyre, or wander through lush oasis-like gorges such as Kings Canyon.

2. Flora and Fauna

I. Adaptations to Harsh Environment
The plants and animals that inhabit the Australian Outback have evolved remarkable adaptations to survive in this harsh and unforgiving environment. Drought-resistant shrubs, like spinifex and mulga, dot the arid plains, while iconic species such as kangaroos, emus, and dingoes roam the vast expanse in search of food and water.
II. Iconic Species
The Outback is also home to a wealth of unique wildlife found nowhere else on Earth. From the elusive bilby to the colorful budgerigar, these iconic species have long captured the imagination of visitors and inspired countless tales of adventure and discovery.

3. Cultural Significance

I. Indigenous Connection
For thousands of years, Indigenous Australians have called the Outback home, forging a deep and spiritual connection with the land known as the Dreamtime. Their rich cultural heritage is woven into the fabric of the Outback, with ancient rock art sites, sacred ceremonial grounds, and traditional storytelling passed down through generations.
II. Outback Lifestyle
Today, the Outback continues to be a place of significance for both Indigenous communities and non-Indigenous Australians alike. The rugged simplicity of Outback life, with its emphasis on self-reliance, resilience, and community spirit, offers a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of modern urban living.

4. Tourism in the Australian Outback

I. Popular Destinations
Each year, thousands of adventurers from around the world flock to the Australian Outback in search of adventure and discovery. Popular destinations include the iconic Red Centre, home to Uluru and Alice Springs, as well as the remote Kimberley region, known for its stunning gorges, waterfalls, and ancient aboriginal rock art.
II. Activities and Experiences
From camel treks across the Simpson Desert to scenic flights over the Bungle Bungle Range, the outback experiences offers a wide range of activities and experiences for visitors of all ages and interests. Whether it’s camping under the stars, hiking through rugged wilderness, or learning about Indigenous culture and history, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

5. Challenges and Conservation Efforts

I. Environmental Threats
Despite its remote and seemingly untouched appearance, the Australian Outback faces numerous environmental threats, including habitat loss, invasive species, and climate change. These challenges pose a significant risk to the fragile ecosystems and iconic wildlife that call the Outback home.
II. Conservation Initiatives
To address these threats, various conservation organisations and government agencies are working tirelessly to protect and preserve the unique biodiversity of the travel outback australia. From land management practices to habitat restoration projects, these efforts are crucial for ensuring the long-term sustainability of this iconic landscape.
Conclusion
The Australian Outback is a place of unparalleled beauty, adventure, and cultural significance. From its vast and diverse landscapes to its unique flora and fauna, it continues to captivate the hearts and minds of adventurers from around the world. By embracing sustainable tourism practices and supporting conservation efforts, we can help protect and preserve this iconic landscape for generations to come.

2024.05.10 19:33 AtomicFarmer [Partially Lost] The lovecraftian legacy of Steve Lines

Greetings, everyone!
Have you found the Yellow Sign? I sure did. And it sent me on an adventure.
It's my first time posting here, so I really hope I understood all the rules correctly. I am a huge fan of Weird Fiction (Lovecraft, CAS, Howard, Derleth, Bloch, etc, basically American writers who worked in the first decades of the XX century) and one day Youtube randomly recommended me this song, inspired by The King in Yellow by Robert W. Chambers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjFKodOgIgs
The haunting music and beautiful vocals really touched me, it was the exact mood I also associated with that awesome book. So I decided to find more by the same author. Thus, my research began. I found out that there once was this man called Steve Lines also known as Psychotronic Steve, I guess.
Although basically unknown, Steve Lines was a creative fella, a true legend even, from what my poor detective skills managed to uncover. He was constantly making stuff. Music, books, art, live performances. From 1970's to 2010's he constantly created all sorts of bands, like a punk rock band called The Ungrateful Dead, a band called Stormclouds, a band called The SOCIETY OF THE YELLOW SIGN, something just called Petals, etc.
Tons of that material were Lovecraft-inspired, dealing with the themes of cosmic horror.
What I managed to find is, at least for me, very beautiful and haunting, like this little gem probably inspired by Lovecraft's Dunwich Horror: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jgL0iAXVg1w
Or this weird little number which sounds like an early Madonna song but about Carcosa the horrible realm of black stars and misery: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxABXxF6o94
Or this punk garage rock thing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZdZEmTjFjA
These are just a few tracks out of I guess more than 200+ that are physical media exclusive and were sometimes released in ridiculous quantities of like 10 CDs or 100 CDs instead of having proper releases.
Few years ago, I think in 2017, according to the info I found on the Lovecraft wiki and in random "rip steve" comments under his music on Youtube, Steve Lines passed away. All that is left from his 40 year long body of work are:
- A bunch of random tracks on Youtube
- This website that doesn't sell the albums anymore: http://www.rainfallsite.com/
- This Myspace page that doesn't work: https://myspace.com/thesocietyoftheyellowsign/music/song/what-sad-drum-48494180
I pestered a few people who knew Steve in life, but their paths with the guy didn't cross since the 90's so they weren't able to help me out.
I think it would be awesome to find the guy's relatives or holders of his estate or whatever, and ask them to digitize the man's musical creations, especially the SOCIETY OF THE YELLOW SIGN albums. I'd buy the whole collection off some kind of a digital marketplace first second they appear.
And judging by the comments under some of his tracks, I'm far from being the only one. Lovecraft-inspired music is way too often this loud, obnoxious, growling and guitar strumming kinda thing, and rarely do we get tender, clean vocals and melancholic delivery from such music. That's a good reason to preserve it, I believe.
But I have no idea how to pull this whole preservation thing off, so that's why I'm posting. Maybe you'll like those tracks as well and actually find the albums. Maybe they are already digitized, I'm just too clueless to find them. Maybe not, though!

2024.05.02 12:05 AnimationFan_2003 S2 Ep1: Babysitter Bunga Review

Plot
Muhimu asks Bunga to watch over her son Hamu while she takes some time out to relax. Before long, some of the other animals ask Bunga to watch their kids as well. While doing so, Bunga has to work hard to keep them safe from Reirei's Pack, including Dogo and Kijana. Meanwhile, Goigoi tries to keep the Lion Guard from going to Hakuna Matata Falls to see how Bunga is getting on.
Song: "Teke Ruka Teleza"

Pros
-First off, we get to see Reirei and the jackals again, which was a real blessing since the episode first came because I love the jackals. I think they're really compelling villains.
-Reirei, as usual, is a well done character because she's very cunning, sneaky, intelligent, charismatic, crafty, fierce and overconfident in her abilities. She's progressively more vicious than she was in her last two appearances. Goi-goi is still the same lovable, yet constantly henpecked husband of the family. Dogo is more vicious and threatening than he was in his last appearance, even as a young pup. His sister, Kijana, is equally menacing, at such a young age.
-I like the idea of Dogo and Kijana being the ones that attempt to lure Hamu away from the rest of the herd because this is actually super realistic. Jackals are members of the Canidae Family (or as normal people like to call it "the Dog Family"), so, naturally the pups learn to hunt, first through playing with their littermates and eventually they move on to hunting smaller and/or younger prey. It's actually super believable that Reirei would assign her youngest pups to catch a little zebra, like Hamu.
-Speaking of Hamu, I like the fact that he was animated to look a little bit older since his last appearance in "The Mbali Fields Migration". He was a newborn in that, but now he's just a little foal. I like it because we get a clear indication that some time has past and they are indeed approaching the Dry Season in this episode.
-I like Reirei's dynamic with her two youngest pups in this episode. Shout out to her for being a good mother, for a change. Remember how the last time Dogo appeared, Reirei seemed like she was okay with putting him in danger for personal gain, whereas here, the whole pack are with them while they are in the Pride Lands. She also acts more loving to them this time, compared to "The Kupatana Celebration". I can admire her for teaching them survival techniques, but, I'm still annoyed that she's forcing them to disrespect the circle of life.
-Dogo is considerably more villainous here. In "The Kupatana Celebration", he wasn't really that evil and didn't really do anything evil, on his own accord anyways. He came across as more misguided and naive in his debut episode and we kind of felt sorry for him and it seemed like Reirei didn't really love him. In my opinion, his debut episode made him out to be a young pup who could've had second thoughts about being disrespectful towards to circle of life, but, this episode shows him acting on his own initiative. Dogo is no longer Reirei's morality pet and seems content with breaking into the Pride Lands and trying to harm Hamu. He seemed happy to do before Reirei had given him any instruction. In the fight scene at the end, Dogo is yet again, hellbent on eating the younger kids with no prompting from his mother.
-Dogo and Kijana are super smart and crafty for their age. The way Dogo manages to trick Hamu into trusting him feels similar to "Jackal Style" from Season 1, except this time, Dogo understands how to manipulate other, younger animals without Reirei to guide him, and successfully gets Hamu to trust him. It's actually a good strategy with Dogo distracting the little zebra and Kijana attempting to pounce on him. He's learned a lot since the episode "The Kupatana Celebration". They would've most certainly eaten Hamu if Bunga and Ono didn't come in at the last second, and if Bunga hadn't prompted Hamu to kick Dogo away.
-I like the Bunga and Hamu dynamic that they have throughout the episode. This isn't an out of nowhere thing, we saw them really getting along back in "The Mbali Fields Migration" with Bunga constantly protecting him from the hyenas and then playing with him at the end. In this episode, Muhimu continues to have faith in Bunga and is very appreciative that he agrees to watch Hamu. I like Bunga taking Hamu under his wing because it feels like a "mentomentee" relationship, like Beshte and Mtoto or Fuli and the Baby Baboon.
-"Don't worry Reirei, you'll be safe from these vicious zebras once you're back in the Outlands," Kion, sarcastically. I can't tell you how much I love Kion's snarky moments in the series. Reirei, "No justice for jackals, I guess." You're goddamn right.
-"Sorry, hon, I thought ya just said kiddies," Goi-goi. Oh, Goi-goi, you're as dumb as a brick, but, we all love you anyways.
-"I can relax knowing that my little one is with someone so responsible," Muhimu. "Did she just say responsible?" Fuli. Yeah, I as crazy as it may seem, Bunga actually did do her proud and more.
-It was cute watching Bunga and Hamu play together. I like any opportunity where the Lion Guard get to be kids. I also like the Big BrotheLittle Brother dynamic the two of them, it reminds of Beshte and Mtoto.
-I like the dynamic between all the mothers of the Pride Lands. Muhimu, Twiga, Young Rhino's mother (I need to settle on a good name for that guy and his mother, btw) and the others. I like the moment where they are hanging out by the lake and later in a field, relaxing. It feels like parenthood in a nutshell where parents obviously do love being with their kids, but sometimes you want to get a babysitter and just hang out by yourself or with your friends. Plus, I like the fact that Muhimu is de-stressing after the jackals' attack and knowing that Hamu is safe. It's also interesting because we never really see the parent characters in this show interacting and hanging out.
-I love Bunga's dynamic with all the other kids as well as Hamu. It's cute how the kids immediately take to him and love him like he's their Cool Big Brother. The kids enjoy listening to him because he's playing games that they enjoy doing and talking to him as his equals rather than belittling them. He's a little kid-at-heart himself, but, when the worse comes to worse, he is in full Papa Bear mode to make sure all of the kids come out unharmed from the jackals. It's adorable how Bunga teaches them self-defence through interactive play.
-Also, can we just talk about how good Bunga is in this episode. After much deliberation and re-watching of old episodes, I've decided this is my favourite Bunga episode of the series. It's 22 minutes of Bunga, in the spotlight, being the character that he should've been all along or least developed into throughout the series. I loved his characterization in this episode. The writers really did give him the respect he deserves. This episode is living proof that while Bunga can a little over-the-top and foolish, he can easily be very proactive, smart, crafty, cunning, responsible, intelligent, quick-thinking and most importantly a strong and determined leader when he needs to be. Truly a defining moment for Bunga, being able to corral all the kids, keep them calm during an attack and lead them into battle against a pack of mean, ferocious jackals. The kids are very clearly afraid, but through Bunga's teachings, they're able to look past it and coming together as a team.
-I can't stress how much I love the fact that Bunga got some much needed character development in this episode. I think he should've been given more moments like that. Whoever says that Bunga is a complete waste of space character, please look at this episode and it will prove you wrong. By teaching the kids self-defence, Bunga has inevitably made them stronger, more adaptable and assertive as a result and has ultimately caused them to have better survival skills. I think it's good for younger kids to see this. A kid will probably walk out of this episode saying, "Oh, well, I guess I can learn self-defence so I can become more social, build my self-confidence and be ready for any trouble."
-Hamu and his friends are absolutely adorable the way they play and learn from Bunga. Also, I think we can all agree that they will less cowardly and less likely to run away in the future. Hamu's "panic and run" days are over because now he knows how to approach danger. Also, I like how Hamu got a bit of character growth as well. In "The Mbali Fields Migration", he's a only a newborn, so, he can't really do much of anything. But, he did kick Janja several feet back, away from Muhimu. That felt like a nice bit of foreshadowing in this episode where he ends up fighting off a pack of ravenous jackals, with his other little friends.
-What about the jackals? Well, shout out yet again to Reirei and Goi-goi for actually looking after Dogo and Kijana. I love the way Dogo and Kijana are practising hunting back in the Outlands. I like the fact that Goi-goi says they can practise running him down as if he were a prey animals, because it proves yet again that he's a total sweetheart and a loving father who just wants Reirei's approval more than anything. He's not a villain in any way, I refuse to see him as a villain, he's the scapegoat of the family with a lot of love to give.
-"Awww, isn't your Daddy sweet, not smart, but sweet," Reirei slanders Goi-goi, but also she's not wrong. That kind of sums him up in a nutshell.
-Also, fun fact, since jackals are Canids, they are similar to wolves, coyotes, foxes and dingoes. So, like many types of wild dogs, Dogo and Kijana are learning hunting through playing. In real life, wild pups learn how to hunt through pouncing on each other or on their older siblings in the pack, which is exactly what Reirei was trying to get them to do all along and why she kept saying "get yourselves a little one." Also, Reirei's pack act more like African Wild Dogs, with their size and level of ferocity, but, I think it's more interesting. We've also never had African Wild Dogs in The Lion Guard.
-Reirei is as evil and cunning as she was in her last appearances. Her voice actress (Ana Gasteyer) did a fantastic job bringing her to life. She's very charismatic, cunning, fierce, crafty, charming, vicious, but also motherly and protective in this episode. I like how it seems very clear that Ana Gasteyer is loving the role of evil matriarch. Kijana asks Reirei what they do about the Lion Guard, but, Reirei is not at all worried because they've been practising and she's cunning enough to think of a plan for the Guard.
-I laughed so hard when Goi-goi was left to distract the Lion Guard and then, all he wanted to do was make Reirei proud. I also laughed at the fact that he doesn't know anything, but then accidentally gets their attention by pacing back and forth. I do wonder though, even though there was no antelope in Goi-goi's path, would the Lion Guard have stopped him from eating one single antelope or would they have let him off. I mean the "one single antelope" seemed like the least of their worries and Kion and Fuli eat antelope, themselves. It's different from the attack on Hakuna Matata Falls because Reirei and her pack clearly had their hearts set on eating a group of children and were clearly breaking the law.
-We get a clear indication of the Jackal Hierarchy in this episode. They do, like other species of wild dog, interact in a "pack system". With Reirei at the top because she's the alpha female who had all the pups in the pack, followed by her elder pups first, then by Dogo and Kijana, and Goi-goi, the underdog at the bottom. Goi-goi should really be with Reirei because they are the "Breeding Pair" in the pack, but, his mate treats him as the scapegoat in the family because he's completely incompetent at hunting and in combat. She doesn't think highly of him at all, she just uses him for breeding and gives him the bare minimum to eat. I know that they are being mean to Goi-goi, but, in real life, every pack does have an underdog. The underdog is usually battered and mistreated by other members of its pack and gets to eat last, after all the other members of its pack, and is usually the first one to get eaten or killed off in extreme cases.
-When the jackals finally arrive at Hakuna Matata Falls, Bunga tells them to get out, but Reirei laughs at him and doesn't think he stands any chance against her. I mean, I understand why she underestimates him at first because there's only one of him and there's a pack of around 15 or so jackals. It goes back to the Kupatana incident where Reirei and Goi-goi weren't very powerful when it was just them and their young pups, but now, it's Bunga and a group of little kids. Also, yes, it makes sense for Reirei to pin Bunga down easily, I mean she's a fully grown jackal and he's a young honey badger.
-The battle scene at the end was very fun to watch. "Teka, Ruka and Teleza" is a funny concept and is useful in getting the kids to think about how they should face off against the jackals. Besides all that, they get to have fun, but also learn self-defence. I liked all the different, unique ways they turned Hakuna Matata Falls into a battle arena to fight off the jackals. Also, I liked the Hamu Vs. Dogo moments right at the end, where at the beginning of the episode, Dogo was the dominant of the two because Hamu was scared of him and his family, but this time, after being thrown around too many times, Dogo is the one who's scared. A nice little bit of pay back for "If you try to eat me again, your gonna get it good."
-"That's how we do it in Hakuna Matata Falls!" Yay, well done kids, you guys were victorious. You fought them off without Bunga. I mean, he guide all of you through it, but other than, you guys did everything. Hamu and the others are badass even though they're like 3 years old, in human years. Also, Hamu, Juhudi and Little Monkey are among the absolute cutest little animals in the show, in my opinion.
-I like how at the end of the episode, Kion, Beshte, Fuli and Ono essentially got sidelined because it made room from Bunga and the kids to take centre stage, all of whom had defeated the jackals before the rest of the Lion Guard or the parents had showed up. I like it because I don't think it would've been as good if they had Kion, Fuli, Beshte and Ono come in to help. Plus, Bunga got to save the day with no fart jokes needed this time around. I mean, I like fart jokes, but also, I will admit that it is refreshing when he uses his wits to save the day.
-I like how the mothers at the end are completely thrilled when they found out Bunga taught the kids to defend themselves because I can imagine any parent being happy knowing that their kids now know how use self-defence and how to work as a team. It's funny because, at first, they sounded like they were going to scream at Bunga. Also, Fuli saying, "Seriously?" was funny because that's what everyone watching is thinking, the idea of Bunga being the "best babysitter ever" until you realise that he taught them something that was actually useful.
-I wonder how any other member of the Lion Guard would've addressed the situation, other than Bunga. What if any one of them were in charge of watching the kids? Fuli, before the "Search for Utamu" incident would've probably tried to fight all the jackals by herself, but, to no avail, but after that she would've probably corralled the kids another way to Bunga so they can be independent. I'd say she'd have succeeded since she's like the Big Sister of the Lion Guard. But, I'm just not sure if Hamu's friends would as much fun with her around. Ono probably wouldn't been good with kids because this was before the "Ona situation" so I feel the kids would've been walking all over him or he wouldn't have had the patience. He doesn't really like roughhousing as much as his friends. Kion probably would've tried to keep the kids in one place, huddled together ready to defend themselves from a direct attack like he did in "The Mbali Fields Migration", but probably would've told them to run and scatter and get as far away from the jackals as they could. I don't think Kion would want to take any risks. Beshte and Bunga are probably the most cut out for this, tbh.
-I know the song "Teke, Ruka, Teleza" was just written as a fun, bouncy little ditty to get kids to get off their couches and dance around to get exercise, but, I can't deny how much I love this song and I how well I think it's written. It's even better considering the fact that we know what will end up happening in the end. The kids will end up using it to fight the jackals. But, other than that, I always thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. It's a fun song like "Zuka Zama Zom Zom Zom!" It's very bouncy, upbeat, cheery and it has good instrumentals and lyrics, in my opinion. I'll give an 8/10.
-In this episode, I do fully think Dogo and Kijana deserved to be punished for all the trouble their family had caused this time around. Dogo and Kijana, who are much more aggressive and mean-spirited in this one, were definitely acting on their own accord and wanted to cause havoc and get their way in the Pride Lands. Reirei did prompt them a little bit, but, they did have their hearts set on overhunting along with the rest of their pack and Dogo had every intent on hurting and killing Hamu without Reirei's instructions. He was going about in mean ways compared to his last appeared. He's not just a naïve pup this time. Towards the end, he goes after Hamu on his own. I still think it was unfair to make Dogo and Kijana live in the Outlands, but, I do agree that they needed to be kicked out on this occasion, like all the other jackals. I liked this mechanic because I don't like it when cartoons refuse to show that "naughty kids should receive consequences" for their actions.
Cons
-The B-Plot was only alright, in my opinion. It was nowhere near as good as the A-plot, in my opinion. I wish the writers were more creative with the rest of the Lion Guard. I don't really understand why the Lion Guard have to practise climbing or why Ono would be worried about Bunga not being there at that point, when they have Kion. As a lion, he would be an even better climber than Bunga. As we know from "Bunga and the King", Bunga can't climb up rock piles, like all honey badgers. Lions, like most cats, can climb up any surface if necessary and they were practising on a rock wall in the Lair. I don't know they have to practise when Kion is obviously the best climber in the entire Lion Guard and when they know full well that cheetahs are not born to climb. So, why would they make Fuli climb the wall in the first place?
-Also, who's idea was it to make Beshte decide that he can climb up the rock wall? That makes no sense whatsoever. Disney, he's a bloody hippopotamus and hippos can't climb surfaces! Why would you even put that in the script? Why do you always try to make Beshte look stupid even though he is clearly a valuable to the Lion Guard and he has his own strengths? I also don't like it when Ono is used as a butt-monkey by the writers, for comic relief. I don't like how one minute he's a kickass fighter and the next minute they are using him for a cheap laugh for the kids. In my opinion, we did not need that whole climbing scene in the Lair and they could've given the rest of the Lion Guard something else to do, in the meantime.
-Also, what on Earth is going on with Reirei and Goi-goi's insane kid count anyways. I'm still confused by this. How many pups did these two have anyways? So, in "The Kupatana Celebration", it seems like they have young male jackal pups that they bring into the Pride Lands. They all appear to be the same age as Dogo, but, come this episode, where have all the younger pups gone. When the jackals are back in the Outlands, there's still no sign of them anywhere. Does Reirei have pups scattered throughout the Outlands or did she cheat on Goi-goi at one point and had pups with another dog (I'm joking, but, I also wouldn't put it past her)? When this episode first came out, I just assumed that Dogo's brothers grew up a lot in that time and are actually older than him, even though they were around his size previously. But, in "Battle for the Pride Lands", the younger pups make a comeback somehow with zero explanation as to where they had gone. I know I was praising Reirei for actually caring for her pups this time around, but, seriously did she just leave her other pups alone in the Outlands with no adult supervision while the rest of them broke into the Pride Lands? Also, Kijana, who's the same age as Dogo makes her debut in this episode. It really makes me wonder if Reirei and Goi-goi just neglected her and left her behind in the Outlands back in Season 1.
-"For funny smells? Bad jokes?" "Fuli, you know Bunga is the bravest." Exactly Beshte. That whole line they threw in for Fuli was unnecessarily mean and insensitive. They did not need to put that in the script because it gives off an impression that all Bunga is good for is his comedic side and his stink when we know he's great at a lot of things and utilised his skills to help the Lion Guard on a number of occasions. Did the writers learn nothing from "Fuli's New Family", "The Mbali Fields Migration", "Never Roar Again" and other episodes. Also, Fuli, why are you gonna talk about one of your best friends like that?
Overall
I really, really enjoyed revisiting this episode years later. I don't watch it as much as I watch other episodes and I feel bad about it because it's actually a really awesome pre-Rise of Scar episode. It's a really funny, heartfelt and fun loving slice of life episode with a lot of action sequences and excitement. Great characters all around. I loved Bunga's characterization. He's written the way that I feel he should've been all along a silly, fun loving guy who can be responsible, quick-thinking and sensible when he needs to be. Hamu and his friends are really fun characters who are the heart of the episode. Hamu is a very brave, adventurous and heroic little zebra who reminds of Bunga and Young Simba in so many ways. I love his dynamic with Bunga. Bunga and the kids fully carried the episode, in my opinion. I'm disappointed that the series finale kind of ruined it, but, I can still appreciate it on its own. The jackals were more interesting and menacing this time around. Dogo was more vicious than in his last episode. I loved the character development all around for both Bunga and all of the kids. Good music and a good amount of comedy. The only things that really annoyed me was the whole "climbing" subplot with the rest of the Guard and Reirei and Goi-goi's apparent child neglect with Kijana and their offscreen pups and their confusing kid count. However, with that said I'm going to give a 8.75/10 to this episode with all the top tier moments. Better than the last Dogo episode.

2024.04.30 17:46 AnimationFan_2003 S2 Ep1: Babysitter Bunga Review

Dogo moment. But, this is not enough for me to give this episode a higher rating. I'll talk more about that later.
-I know, I just talked about how Dogo and Kijana were so in wrong and needed to have consequences, but, then I do feel bad that the main characters still didn't take pity on Dogo, during his first appearance in Season 1. He wasn't that evil or cruel back then and was being forced to do bad things by Reirei. So, if the Lion Guard had allowed him refuge in the Pride Lands, he may gone on to appreciate the circle of life and see it in a new light, and maybe even helped out with the threat of Scar. Either way, I'm glad he got punished for trying to attack Hamu and the other kids, but, I still think if the Lion Guard hadn't screwed him over, he wouldn't have been inclined to act against the circle of life, and neither would Kijana. I also don't like the Guard and the kids continuously beating the crap out of Dogo and Kijana instead of just dealing with them humanly. This hurts even more since the Guard themselves, are children. I still think Dogo and Kijana were robbed of a redemption arc more than any other villain character in the series and I don't like that this is their last speaking role in the series and how they just disappeared for the rest of Season 2.
Kion is a lion, for crying out loud!
I liked it better when we had good moments between Fuli and Bunga.
-I think this is one of those episodes that should've been in Season 1 because it feels like a more light-hearted, sweet, wholesome and childlike early Season episode. I think if it was a Season 1 episode, I would have more of an appreciation for it. I like it, but, it feels like too much "Filler" to be the Season 2 premiere. I feel like if the writers had put it at the end of Season 1 episode nothing would change and it would honestly fit in better. I feel the same way about "The Travelling Baboon Show" and "Ono and the Egg". In that scenario, we could've gone into Season 2 with The Savannah Summit as the premiere and the upcoming Dry Season, followed by The Rise of Scar storyline, just to kick off the darker story arc, quickly. I'm knocking a point off for them placing Babysitter Bunga as S2 Ep1. The only reason they put it there is so that Hamu looks like he grew from a newborn colt to a little foal.
-As far as Lion Guard episodes go, I did love this one, but, not as much as other episodes. I wouldn't choose it above other, more high stake or lore-based episodes. I think my favourite episodes are the more high stake rescues that the Lion Guard go on or the ones with lovable new characters or more worldbuilding elements, and the ones that have fantastic, positive messages for young children and for adults. This one was good in that regard, but, it wasn't like a jaw-dropping amazing, must see for everyone. I mostly have a soft spot for it because I love how Bunga is written throughout it and I also love the jackals. However, as far as villains go, the jackals are too wimpy and cowardly this time around. In their last appearance, they seemed more determined to wreck havoc and kill everything in their path, more like African Wild Dogs than actually jackals. Then, later on in Season 2, they are shown to be an effective threat to the Lion Guard. But, here, they're easily taken out by a group of younger and weaker children with absolutely no battle experience and only a young honey badger for coaching. I'm utterly shocked that Bunga managed to corral the kids and that they actually found it easy to beat the jackals. I mean, I know Kion and his friends are children, but, they're older and are more used to fighting vicious predators. Hamu and his friends are just little kids who have never trained in a fight before. I feel like if the writers had Kion, Fuli, Beshte and Ono come in and then kicked off the battle, it would be more believable. But, no, the kids are somehow able to fend off a pack of ferocious jackals, despite having no fighting skills or experience. I definitely think episode is aimed purely at children and so younger characters are intentionally given the spotlight for plot-convenience, even if it doesn't make any sense.
-Reirei's jackals are too cowardly, wimpy and far too easily defeated by a group of little kids, despite them all having trained well for this and having previously gone into the Pride Lands, while Hamu and his friends have no battle experience and are physically too weak to fight. I don't like Reirei and the other jackals being nerfed for this episode, for the sake of the kids winning at the end and Bunga being praised. In Season 1, Reirei and Goi-goi pose as a genuine threat to the circle of life and are only stopped fully by Simba and Kion's interference, then after the Rise of Scar, they are shown to be very antagonistic against and able battlers, due to being recruited by Scar. However, here they too easily defeated and intimidated by this young children. I actually find Season 1 fights more engaging because all the Lion Guard need to get involved. But, in this episode, I don't like how quickly the children learn self-defence and triumph over the jackals.
-I do not like the fact the rest of the Lion Guard just needlessly decided to leave Goi-goi stuck in the hole, while they went off to Hakuna Matata Falls. I know Goi-goi is working for Reirei and the rest of the pack, but, I refuse to acknowledge him as a villain in any way, I think he's more misunderstood than anything. Just because he's working for Reirei (his wife, no less) it doesn't mean he deserved to be stuck in a hole and mistreated by the Lion Guard in that moment. I mean, he risked getting into trouble with Reirei just so they'd get him out of the hole. He tattled on his family, even though he's afraid of his wife and the fact that they were going to save him the leftovers. I didn't like how Beshte was the only one who kept his promise to Goi-goi and pulled him, while Kion, Fuli and Ono just rushed off and needlessly left him in the hole. It feels needlessly mean-spirited for the Lion Guard to be mean back, because it's their job to make sure that all the animals have respect for each other, so, they shouldn't have disrespected Goi-goi's wishes just because he was helping Reirei and the others. I don't like the way Kion basically just blackmailed Goi-goi and didn't even keep his promise to pull him out.
Overall
I really did enjoy revisiting this episode years later. I don't watch it as much as I watch other episodes, but it is actually a good and wholesome episode. Hamu and his friends are really fun and cute characters. Hamu is a very brave, adventurous and heroic little zebra who reminds me of Bunga and Young Simba in so many ways. I love his dynamic with Bunga. Bunga and the kids. I'm disappointed that the series finale kind of ruined it, but, I can still appreciate it on its own. I like the idea of Bunga mentoring and playing with Hamu. Dogo was more vicious than in his last episode. I loved the character development for Bunga. However, I didn't like the way Reirei's pack were far too easily intimidated by a group of young children and were unable to hold their own despite being shown in previous episode to be effective battlers. The whole "climbing" subplot with the rest of the Guard and it felt like unnecessary "filler", which I think could've better spent. I don't like how easy the jackals were to beat, despite having trained, just like the Lion Guard. Reirei should've had the upper-hand on this occasion. I was all for Bunga mentoring Hamu, but this situation was different and the hungry jackals were in a pack and were a greater threat to the kids. I think they should've made a big team-up with Bunga, the rest of the Guard and the younger kids Vs, the jackals. I also don't get Reirei and Goi-goi's apparent child neglect with Kijana and their other offscreen pups and also their confusing kid count. Also, the fact that we don't see Dogo again until Season 3 and he didn't get a redemption arc. I don't like how they needlessly decided to ditch Goi-goi even after he disclosed where the rest of his pack were gone. However, with that said I'm going to give a 6.75/10 to it. Not as good as the last Dogo-episode. Not quite as epic and spectacular as other episode and it's a babysitting episode made for kids with little kids being centre stage. However, I would still watch it again and enjoy it mostly because I liked Bunga's characterization, the jackals' return and I liked the dynamic between Bunga and the kids. It was a great use of Bunga's character. But, not as special as lot of other episodes. It still had some heart to it and it's still watchable if you're in the mood for a light action and cute episode.
