Should I invest?
Thanks to this sub I know that Ingredient Finder S and Berry Finding S are great sub skills but the fact that it has no nature is creating some doubts in me. Should I evolve and train this Vulpix or wait for a better one?

2024.06.01 07:22 ssunchipp i am going to have a summer berry bitchfit (rant !!!)

these last few rollouts have seemed to be done with the sole intent of abusing and driving insane any and all baristas who dare be efficient at cold bar. i've had to visually reach my breaking point and beg shifts to be put on hot bar and even then every single drink is an iced matcha or brown sugar shaken. my arms fucking hurt, constantly shaking drinks made my elbows hurt so bad i had to change the way i shake, my wrists and fingers are in such genuine pain i cant even do fine motor tasks for my hobbies because i have to stop every five seconds to stretch my poor hands. i have callouses and stress blisters that form on my hands because i have to make the same exact drink and do the same motions 500x over in a shift because god forbid a barista batch drinks or not shake the 15th exact same refresher they've made in a row 10 times exactly.
every single rollout includes more stupid changes to strip baristas of any personality or humanity and demand more and more machine efficiency from us and its taken an insane toll on my body and mental health. slackjawed customers stare at us like zoo animals because they cannot fathom not getting instantly gratified and personally served like some god amongst us just because they placed a mobile order and the shit starbucks app immediately told them it was ready. we don't even take names at the box anymore to cut down on order point times when the reality is our customers show up daily to the drive thru like they've never seen a sb menu in their lives...i cannot help when a car of tourists takes 9 minutes at the box by not asking their name.
however i'm meant to keep up customer connection scores, cleanliness scores, and drink quality while also completing every interaction from order to handoff in basically 30 seconds is beyond me and i hope the corporate overlords get theirs one of these days because why am i doing high risk zero reward body destroying work on the verge of vomiting the entire time so some already rich guy can squeeze an extra vacation in each year...
i don't want to quit and it sucks even more in that sort of reality. this is one of the best part time job opportunities in my area and works really well for me and my current life goals. it just sucks knowing im trapped under the thumb of these insane expectations and it isn't even truly summer yet. the day my blood pressure gets so high i pop it will be at the hands of a venti strawberry acai lemonade light ice light lemonade no inclusions ticket.
i miss you pumpkin chai please come back im sorry for ever complaining about you ill make a million a day as long as i never have to hear the words summer berry or lavender matcha ever again

2024.05.31 20:06 Creative-Drawer5948 What are your go-to foods during PEM?

i thought it would be beneficial to start a thread of everyone's favorite foods to eat when they're having a bad flare-up.
here are mine:
-protein shakes. i've been enjoying the owyn vanilla meal replacement shakes lately. they're fortified with a variety of vitamins & minerals and they're higher in calories. they're also vegan.
-juice. this one is often demonized but i spoke to my dietitian and she said liquid calories (even juice) are a great option when eating & digesting food makes you tired. you can also mix in a protein or fiber supplement. homemade smoothies are better for sure but making a smoothie and cleaning the blender is not practical for me during PEM.
-canned chili or refried beans with cheese & tortilla chips or rice. sometimes it's really hard to get in enough fiber! this is one of my favorite high fiber meals.
-amy's frozen meals. the 3 cheese and kale bake is sooo good and gluten-free without tasting like it.
-greek yogurt or soy yogurt with microwaved frozen berries & nut butter.
-snack plates. i try to make sure it has carbs, protein, healthy fat, fiber, and vitamins. example: whole grain crackers, hummus, grapes, salami, and cheese.
-if there's nothing good to eat in the house and i can't be bothered to think about groceries, i'll doordash something. usually i'll either get a burrito, a gyro bowl from nick the greek, taco bell, or pizza.
i would love to know what you guys like to eat when you're exhausted.

2024.05.31 18:07 CrankyCoderBlog Critters in the garden

So I have been fighting this year with I assume a vole in the garden. But whatever it is keeps eating my young cucumber plants. Oddly enough it seems it’s just those. I have seen suggestions about putting hardware cloth buried into the ground around the garden but the garden is decent size. Would get expensive quick. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of something I can add to the water or something that might be pungent enough to deter them. I have heard stuff like peppermint, mint, lemon juice, and then others say cayanne, chilli pepper.
Just wondering how others are keeping critters back.
Second. I have some blueberry bushes in large planters, covered with bird netting. Something is still getting to my almost ready to harvest berries. Thoughts here?
Thanks!

Bandaid Haze ix 3.0 (Piff) - Cuban Black Haze x A5/Thai [R] {These seeds originally came from a Spanish grower in the “A5 crew” out of Southern Holland. “A5” was short for their NL#5 x Haze A open Thai pollination project. These seeds were shared with legendary grower Bodhi, who found one male and used it to pollinate a cut of “Cuban Black Haze” that he had. The strain was referred to as “Piff” and the seeds were shared almost exclusively with Doc D. After running the seeds, Doc selected “Piff #7” and shared the cut back with Bodhi who further worked the line. The cut was a significantly better long flowering haze variety with a shorter flowering time than the Cuban Black Haze mother or A5 father. Bodhi then later referred to the strain as “Bandaid Haze” coining the term because he said “it heals all wounds” This genome has direct lineage to the New York Hazes (NYC Piff / Uptown Piff / Washington Heights Haze) of the 2000s without any of the paranoia/anxiety that came from many of the hazes from that era. Many world renowned breeders agree that most of the “New York Haze” and “New York City Piff” varieties are all just different cuts of the same strain, that most likely comes from an early selection of Neville Schoenmakers (NL#5 x Haze) which is often referred to as the “pinnacle of cannabis breeding” that has dominated cannabis scene from the 1980s in Holland to the present day.}

These seeds were shared with legendary grower Bodhi, who found one male and used it to pollinate a cut of “Cuban Black Haze” that he had. The strain was referred to as “Piff” and the seeds were shared almost exclusively with Doc D. After running the seeds, Doc selected “Piff #7” and shared the cut back with Bodhi who further worked the line. The cut was a significantly better long flowering haze variety with a shorter flowering time than the Cuban Black Haze mother or A5 father. Bodhi then later referred to the strain as “Bandaid Haze” coining the term because he said “it heals all wounds” This genome has direct lineage to the New York Hazes (NYC Piff / Uptown Piff / Washington Heights Haze) of the 2000s without any of the paranoia/anxiety that came from many of the hazes from that era. Many world renowned breeders agree that most of the “New York Haze” and “New York City Piff” varieties are all just different cuts of the same strain, that most likely comes from an early selection of Neville Schoenmakers (NL#5 x Haze) which is often referred to as the “pinnacle of cannabis breeding” that has dominated cannabis scene from the 1980s in Holland to the present day.}

2024.05.31 12:11 priya_dogra Refreshing & Easy Smoothie for Keto Beginners (Ready in 10 Minutes)

I receive numerous inquiries from friends and family every day regarding what is allowed and what should be avoided on the Keto diet. One common concern is about lentils, fruits, juices, and sweets.
Many individuals transitioning to the Keto lifestyle find themselves missing their favorite shakes and juices that they used to enjoy. I must admit, I miss them too, especially during the scorching summers in India. How many glasses of lime juice can one have, after all?
To address this dilemma, I have a delightful solution for you today: the Keto parallel of Green Smoothie, a refreshing combination of cucumber and spinach.
Not only is it a feast for the eyes, but it also nourishes your body with essential nutrients and healthy fats. If you’re hesitant about consuming liquid spinach, rest assured that the flavor of spinach is quite subdued in this smoothie.
Having it in the morning not only provides a burst of freshness, but also energizes my mind, giving me a boost for the entire day. Trust me, this green smoothie will become your go-to beverage to start your day off right.
You could also have it as a palate cleanser. Drink it before you hit the gym or after it. And if you live in one of the hot cities of India, it’s your perfect snack for a summer day.

Procedure:

  1. It is very simple to make this smoothie. Just grab your mixer, add the spinach and toss them.
  2. Add the coconut milk and blend some more.
  3. Toss in the ice cubes.
  4. Now add the stevia, coconut oil and the flax seeds powder.
  5. Stop the blender, let the ingredients settle down, and then blend some more.
  6. You have the option of adding the cucumber on top or blending it with the rest of the ingredients.
  7. I personally like the bits of cucumber, and keep it chopped.
  8. You will see the spinach floating, but you can’t taste it as such.
  9. Pour in a tall glass and enjoy it in peace.
  10. Garnish with mint leavesProcedure: It is very simple to make this smoothie. Just grab your mixer, add the spinach and toss them. Add the coconut milk and blend some more. Toss in the ice cubes. Flax seeds powder

I have used Alsi (flax) seeds powder in this recipe. But you can skip it if you want. Flax seeds are a very rich source of fiber, manganese, Vitamin B1 and Omega-3. Just 1 teaspoon of flax seeds powder provides you with your daily nutritional requirement of Omega-3. And if you are wondering about their taste, they have a very nutty flavor which takes a little getting used to. But when you add it to shakes and smoothies, it gets dominated by other flavors.Flax seeds powder I have used Alsi (flax) seeds powder in this recipe. But you can skip it if you want. 2024.05.31 09:59 emcdarby Long fanfiction story I'm currently writing called Gummi Bear Journey

This is to let you know I"m currently working on this Gummi Bear fan fiction story which you may like. It's about a small group of nine to ten year old kids who live in a dark time of weird and worrisome technology, and it starts with a brother and sister in the playroom of a house they have begun to feel out-of-place in due to sensing a really faint distant cry coming from the deep woods somewhere. They talk about it for a little bit and decide they will go outside and play in the backyard tomorrow to see if it will help clear their heads. Later that night, the brother, who is called Erik, ends up having a vivid dream about seeing some Gummi Bears in the woods near a hillside. Unfortunately, they have seen him and drink gummiberry juice and bounce away into the woods upon seeing him.
The next morning during breakfast, he tells his sister who is called Alice, about the dream and she thinks they might exist something, but is not sure. They go outside into the backyard to play and Erik thinks about the dream again. They soon decide to take a walk over to the park since its a nice day for a walk and they remember about there being woods by the park they can go into to see if there is a clue to the existence of Gummi Bears. On the way over to the park, they discover weird technology in the form of cabinet to refrigerator sized metal boxes, various radio units, meters, unseemly wires, and big ear shaped dishes being installed up on telephones along the street the park is on. They find it worrisome as they don't know what is going on there and continue over to the park.
Upon arriving at the park, they start to feel a very faint mystical connection of some kind out in the nearby forest like there is something there that may be calling them to come out there for some strange reason. As they head there to investigate thinking it might be a clue to the existence of Gummi Bears, they suddenly hear a siren going off nearby and notice the big ear shaped dish nearby is glowing red with an antenna sticking out of it. They become dizzy with Erik stumbling over to a nearby tree. He sits down to rest there, but then passes out while he sees Alice coming over to check up on him. He ends up having a vision about trees with all of their limbs cut off with only their trunks remaining and finds he is feeling a strong connection with the deep woods for some strange reason.
Erik also notices Alice has disappeared and begins calling out to her wondering where she is as he travels further into the mutilated trees. He comes upon some more Gummi Bears who are being harmed by strange machinery that is not supposed to be there. He feels its out of place and wants to do something to help them, but is not sure how to. As he wonders what to do, Erik suddenly notices someone unfamiliar attempting to chase after the Gummi Bears for some unusual reason and gets the feeling they want to somehow corrupt the juice they make from berries. He feels the need to do something to defend them and as he tries to do something to help protect the Gummi Bears and get them to a safe place that has not been corrupted, he suddenly finds he is big park in town and immediately wonders if he somehow ended up back in the park.
He looks around a bit and hears a young girl singing to the tune of "I'm wishing on a star, to follow where you are. I'm wishing on a dream, to follow what it means. And I'll wish on all the rainbows that I see." This causes him to get the feeling that it is fantasy related he may soon become involved with and wonders what he could be, but then he wakes up to find himself on the ground by the tree with his sister Alice standing there looking down at him. Erik also realizes the siren is no longer going off and she wonders what happened. He explains to him how he became dizzy and stumbled over to the tree before passing out there. As they begin to wonder what to do now, he remembers about their friend Rowan who has a tree house in the woods a little further down the street from the park who may be able to help them solve this, and they decide to head there.
After arriving at Rowan's tree house and fort and finding Rowan is up there with a girl he had met from a foster home named Brina, they learned that he is using it as a hideout from some punk teenagers who were bullying him. Erik finds the hideout is a good idea and decides that he wants to join him. Rowan tells him he and Alice are in and then asks if they have any ideas what to do now. He tells him he does and tells him about the distant cry he had felt from the deep woods last night which Rowan tells him he was feeling it as well. At the same time, he is writing notes down in his notebook about everything Erik tells him about, which includes the vivid dream he had that morning, walking to the park and noticing all the strange stuff being installed along the street that Rowan already knows about and is trying to figure out what to do about, arriving at the park and feeling a very faint mystical connection of some kind in the forest there, hearing the siren going off just as they are about to go in it and Erik passing out by the tree which Rowan tells them he and Brina were also feeling a little bit dizzy as well as it was going off, the vision he had while he was passed out, and finally coming over here to see if he can help figure it out.
After Rowan finishes writing notes down about all of this in his notebook, Brina walks over to a recliner chair and shows Erik and Alice a two and a half foot big sandy colored plush sandy colored plush bear she and Rowan found in a thrift store. They see it has a blue dress with a darker blue wasitband arould it which is secured by an old fashion looking round river stone buckle. Erik tells him it looks similar to the Gummi Bears from the dream he had and Rowan says it is a good start. The tree house and fort at that time becomes a club for Gummi Bears lovers and they head back over to the park with Rowan and Brina. They head into the forest to investigate and soon come to where they see sparkles around bushes by a hillside. Just as they come to the bushes, they discover a hidden cave there as the siren is heard again in the distance and they become dizzy again.
They immediately go inside the cave and find they are not as dizzy there. Rowan finds an old lantern to use and they begin to explore it. They soon come into a large open cave area with a passageway that has sparkles around it and leads into another similar area. They soon pass through it unaware they had crossed into another world and realize the low siren sound had suddenly stopped. They continue on and soon come to the light from another cave entrance hidden by more bushes. Just after they get through the bushes and leave the cave, they see a trail leading through the woods and going straight. Erik then notices none of the trees here are withering and dying like they are by the park and find it to be kind of odd. Rowan thinks they have came out somewhere else that is not effected by whatever is caused it.
He turns to go back into the cave, but he discovers the cave entrance is no longer there and finds that to be very strange. They decide that they have no choice but to follow the trail to see where it leads, and they come out at a field before a dirt road. At that time, they wonder if they had somehow gone back in time and follow it into the nearby town which it leads into on their right. While they are exploring around the town, they soon come upon a pawn shop and decide to check it out to see if they have anything Gummi Bear related there they could purchase and use. Right as they enter it, they discover that it had been abandoned for some reason and hear some kid voices coming from a small square hole in the ceiling. They decide to check that out and are invited to climb a rope ladder to get up there.
They find that it leads up into a large room with a couple bunk beds in it and there is a small group of wizard kids who are using it for a hideout. They learn their names are Lowell, Polina, and Neville as Lowell asks what they are looking for there. They tell them they are looking to see if there is any Gummi Bears stuff there and Lowell says he may be able to help them out with that. At this point, they may find the Chest of Gummi that contains a book, a map, and some Gummi Bear suits they can try on there before they leave to continue on their journey in looking for Gummi Bears, which is where I'm at in this story.
Let me know what you think as the premise for this is from my imagination and a number of dreams I had, which is currently this.
In a dark time of weird and worrisome technology, when all hope was bleak along with trees appearing to be withering and dying with no explanation, there lived some young kids who miss the Gummi Bear cartoon. After having a dream about the Gummi Bears and a vision of them shortly after passing out in the park due to strange ear shaped dishesup on telephone poles, the kids learn that their only escape from this world, is in a gummi bear myth they feel drawn to. The myth speaks of a group of bears called the wanderers who had came and went from this world via a cave which leads into another world. In this world of the past, there are small traces of gummi bears who had once visited it, and are visible only to those who know where to look. There will be signs, that will mark the kids entering into the gummi bear race, there will be secrets, that reveal their destiny, and there will be a journey, that will make you believe.

Fresh fruits are not only delicious but also packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber, making them ideal snacks for babysitting sessions.
  1. Dates: A staple in Middle Eastern cuisine, dates are rich in natural sugars and provide a quick energy boost for active children. Serve them whole or stuffed with nuts or cheese for added protein and flavor.
  2. Watermelon Slices: Refreshing and hydrating, watermelon slices are perfect for hot days in Dubai. They're loaded with water content and vitamins, making them a healthy and satisfying snack option.
  3. Mango Cubes: Indulge children's sweet cravings with juicy mango cubes. Mangoes are rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, promoting immune health and overall well-being.

Savory Middle Eastern Delights

Middle Eastern cuisine offers a plethora of savory snacks that are both nutritious and flavorful.
  1. Hummus and Veggie Sticks: Creamy hummus paired with colorful vegetable sticks, such as carrots, cucumbers, and bell peppers, makes for a nutritious and satisfying snack. Hummus provides protein and fiber, while veggies offer vitamins and crunch.
  2. Labneh and Pita Bread: Labneh, a tangy strained yogurt, is a popular Middle Eastern dip that pairs perfectly with soft pita bread. It's rich in probiotics and calcium, promoting gut health and bone strength.
  3. Falafel Bites: Bite-sized falafel balls are not only tasty but also packed with protein and fiber. Serve them with a side of tahini sauce for dipping, adding extra flavor and nutrients.

Healthy Homemade Treats

Preparing homemade snacks allows you to control the ingredients and ensure that children enjoy wholesome and nourishing foods.
  1. Trail Mix: Create a custom trail mix using a variety of nuts, seeds, dried fruits, and whole-grain cereal. Trail mix provides a balanced combination of protein, healthy fats, and carbohydrates, perfect for sustained energy.
  2. Greek Yogurt Parfaits: Layer Greek yogurt with fresh fruits, granola, and a drizzle of honey to create delicious and nutritious parfaits. Greek yogurt is high in protein and probiotics, supporting digestion and satiety.
  3. Vegetable Sushi Rolls: Get creative in the kitchen by making vegetable sushi rolls using nori seaweed sheets, sushi rice, and a variety of sliced vegetables. These colorful rolls are packed with vitamins and minerals, offering a fun and nutritious snack option.

Hydration Station

Staying hydrated is essential, especially in Dubai's hot climate. Offer refreshing and hydrating beverages alongside snacks to keep children energized and hydrated throughout the day.
  1. Infused Water: Infuse water with slices of citrus fruits, berries, or herbs for a refreshing twist. Encourage children to stay hydrated by offering flavored water in colorful cups or bottles.
  2. Coconut Water: Provide coconut water as a hydrating alternative to sugary drinks. Coconut water is naturally sweet and packed with electrolytes, making it an excellent choice for replenishing fluids.

Conclusion

Healthy snacks play a vital role in maintaining children's energy levels and supporting their overall health during home babysitting sessions in Dubai. By incorporating fresh fruits, savory Middle Eastern delights, homemade treats, and hydrating beverages, babysitters can ensure that children receive nourishing snacks that contribute to their well-being and enjoyment.

2024.05.31 00:53 jayaytchaywai Amsterdam Tips / Takes after One Month Living and Working out of the Red Light District

I’m an American who recently spent a month traveling, living and working remotely in the Amsterdam Red Light district, and I wanted to share a thorough compendium of tips and my personal takes on a few things.
This is going to be more for people already planning on going to Amsterdam rather than people wanting to see if it’s worth going, but you might get something out of it, too. It’s also geared more for a medium-length stay rather than a quick visit.
I’d love to answer your questions as well. Fire away!

Vondelpark

I’m putting this at the top, because I think it’s great and people need to know. So, this is the city’s most famous park. It’s a very nice if standard park and is a great “scene” on a nice day, filled with people walking, biking around, and enjoying themselves. Don’t miss out on the stork nests in the closed off areas - really cool.
But! There is this fantastic app you can download to your phone that uses GPS to play amazing music that changes, depending on where you are in the park. The music was composed by the current composer-in-residence at the Concertgebouw, Ellen Reid, and it’s set up to be a live “soundtrack” to the park, with the music from different areas looping and overlapping each other. It makes for an amazing experience (as a solo traveler) - and I think anyone visiting Amsterdam should try it. It’s magical, and I highly recommend it.
More info here on the project, but apparently the Vondelpark location isn’t on the website (it’s in the app if you download it): https://www.ellenreidsoundwalk.com/

Orienting Yourself

The city is a bit of a maze and it can feel overwhelming and confusing at first, but I eventually made sense of it. I think the trick is to get familiar with the city based on the water more than on landmarks or roads.
Think of the Dam as the core of the town (it’s what it’s named after, anyway). To the north you have the IJ, and then the Amstel running south and east from it, originating in the Rokin canal just south of you. You have two main canals that sort of serve as the edge of the inner medieval city: the Singel on the west and south, and the Kloveniersburgwal south and east, running up to Nieuwmarkt. Outside of that, in concentric half circles (to your west, south, and east) you have the main canals: the Herengracht, Keizersgracht, Prinsengracht, and finally the Singelgracht (not to be confused with the Singel).
To the west of these canals is the Jordaan, where the streets run at a diagonal angle from what you were just on before. The Museumplein is right at 7 o’clock just outside the Singelgracht, and just north of that is Vondelpark, which runs SW to NE.
This is obviously incomplete, but this is the image I had in my mind, which helped me know pretty much where I was, even when wandering around and not paying attention. Knowing which canal you’re on keeps everything organized.
TL;DR - just be able to locate the IJ, the Amstel, and the main canals, from inner to outer: Singel / Kloveniersburgwal, Herengracht, Keizersgracht, Prinsengracht, Singelgracht. It does wonders.

Cash

Before the trip, I researched whether having cash was important in Amsterdam. Based on what I read, I decided that cash was unnecessary and didn’t bother.
Not true!
Maybe most of the time cash was unnecessary, but I needed it for a few things:
  1. Some bathrooms, lockers at museums, and other small facilities needed a coin. It’s good to have a few 50 cent and 1 euro pieces on you.
  2. A lot of restaurants outside the center of the city take debit but only from Dutch banks. I couldn’t use the VISA-based debit card from my American credit union at these places and had to go to an ATM. There was always one nearby, so no big deal, but it’s good to know.
  3. Most vendors in stalls do take cards, but a few don’t, and all of them prefer cash.
So I could see a large number if not the majority of tourists not running into these situations, but I did indeed need cash on my trip.

Cafes / Coworking Spots

Kind of key for me, a remote worker, reader, writer.
I went to a lot, but here are the best ones I found for having a hot beverage and removing the many contents of my backpack on the table. (I am the reincarnation of Uncle Iroh, so tea is important to me in these places. But Amsterdam is not really a tea-drinking city, so I’ll include short, parenthetical tea reviews). In no particular order:

Food

Amsterdam has a lot of wonderful and famous street and specialty foods, which you’ve probably already heard of (stroopwafels, appeltaart, fries, pannenkoeken, haring, etc.). Do not waste a minute standing in line for any of these or seeking out the highest-rated places. These items are hard to mess up, and one place is just as good as any other. I think the one exception is the appeltaart. No need to stand in line (e.g. at Winkel 43), but make sure you get one at a place where they’re baked in-house, otherwise you’re going to end up with microwaved styrofoam. There are plenty of great little bars near Winkel 43 that have just as good if not better appeltaarten. I heard good things about De Laatste Kruimel (one location near Rokin, the other in 9 Straatjes).
I walked through Foodhallen, and I found the whole place overcrowded and overpriced, but I’m sure the food is good and worth eating, if you want to go there. The building and surrounding area is very cool and busy, if that’s what you’re looking for.
Conversely, I thought Albert Cuyp market was going to be a crowded circus, but I never found it overwhelmingly full. In fact, I really liked it (particularly the chicken stands).
There is a great if small farmer’s market in Nieuwmarkt on many Saturday mornings, if you happen to be in the area. They have vegetables, fruit, fresh baked bread, cheeses, and a few food stands (I saw haring/kibbeling, fresh juice, dutch sandwiches, vegan Indian food).
There’s an abundance of great Surinamese and Indonesian food that’s characteristic of the city. Don’t miss out. This cuisine is also great for people on budgets. One thing to note is that the fancier places are not set up for solo diners, but there are plenty of smaller / takeaway places if you keep your eyes open. You can usually get a rice dish (rice plus veggies + meat/tofu) or a roti wrap. Please note that in the cheapest / most convenient places the food is usually kept in large dishes inside cold or room-temperature deli displays and then microwaved. No judgements - just wanting to make sure you know what you’re getting. (In the US, these would either be kept in a refrigerator or warm in steam trays).
I feel like you can never go wrong with the European-style Shoarma or Doner, either. This is old news for Europeans, but I think these places might be overlooked by Americans. It’s not quite the same as what you would get in the US. In particular, I can only get good chicken doner sandwiches in Europe. It’s cheap, delicious, and filling. Try it out, yanks.

Non-Vondel Parks

I like walking around in parks, here are my reviews of the ones I was able to visit:

Museums / Attractions

I won’t bother telling you about the big museums - you will probably decide for yourself whether you’re going and to which ones.
I have to add the compulsory: if it’s important to you to go to the Anne Frank or Van Gogh museums, get your tickets yesterday.
What I do want to share is that Amsterdam has an armada of wonderful small museums, all very well put together with beautiful spaces and artifacts, compelling stories, some creative presentations. I was always pleasantly surprised at the quality of the experience, and I usually ended up staying way longer than planned. They’re small museums with big museum energy.
My favorites were:
  1. Museum of the Canals. This one would be fantastic as the first museum or place you visit, because it really helps you understand both the geography and history of the city. It’s a great “Amsterdam 101.” The audio/visual shows are well done, too - they even have a doll house version of the building the museum is in, full of holograms depicting life from different eras. It’s awesome.
  2. Resistance Museum. This one seems small but is dense with stories you will find yourself wanting to take in deeply. I would set aside 3 hours for this one. It might not take this long, but you want to go slowly.
  3. Our Lord in the Attic. This one seems to make a lot of hidden gems lists, and I think that’s well-deserved. It’s an intense historical experience that has a lot more complexity to it than “Catholic Church hidden in the top stories of an old house.” Full of artifacts and period-accurate rooms, with a good English audio tour.
  4. Rembrandthuis. Your appreciation here somewhat depends on if you like 17th century art, but you do get a good sense of the man’s timeless personality, and his impact on art. They do a good job teaching you the importance of Rembrandt’s etchings and etchings in general, which I honestly had no interest in before my visit. The main studio and collection room are just fascinating. Also, his kitchen was on point.
An honorable mention goes to the Embassy of the Free Mind. It’s a unique, fascinating place, but I have to say that it’s not much of a museum and the admission fee, roughly the same as the ones listed above, felt way too much. It’s a really cool library with some display cases and text, but it’s not a museum. It’s got an extremely cozy and pleasant cafe, and they have cool concerts, lectures, and other events there, so it’s worth putting on your radar. And it’s totally worth visiting if you don’t mind the fee or have a Museumkaart or something (you could think of it as a compulsory donation).

Learning Dutch

Some people wonder if they need to learn Dutch going to Amsterdam, because everyone speaks English.
While I can confirm that I didn’t talk to a single person who couldn’t speak English, I think it’s worth learning at least some Dutch. It’s simply the language of the land, and it’s important to be “literate” where you are, for your enjoyment, enrichment, and safety. I find it inherently disempowering to not be at least trying to learn the language; though I understand not everyone cares or has that energy.
I recommend anyone interested in linguistics spend at least a little bit of time with Dutch just to see where it overlaps with English. It’s a great experience of what kinship between two languages is like; you get a strong sense that English and Dutch were the results of two different rolls of the same dice, so to speak.
I did a sizeable chunk of the Duolingo Dutch course before heading over. I would say Duolingo helped me mostly to read the language, despite all the emphasis on audio. (Note: I have a lot of experience learning languages, including a strong background in reading German, so that gave me a boost). I tried speaking Dutch when ordering food - and people would try to humor me - but I quickly discovered that Duolingo simply doesn’t give you enough variety of phrases to really be able to hold up a conversation.
I think the bare minimum should be the following:
  1. Pronunciation. Learn how to read Dutch words out loud and get comfortable with how things are spelled and how they sound.
  2. Dank je wel - “Thank you”
  3. Alsjeblieft or alstublieft (more formal) - “Please” or “You’re welcome”
  4. Ja - Yes
  5. Nee - No
  6. Fiets - bicycle
  7. Uitgezonderd - “Except for” - You’ll see this word on street signs with a picture of a bike or scooter, meaning that bikes/scooters can go through but cars can’t.
  8. Nooduitgang - “Emergency exit”

Riding Bikes

Amsterdam is a city extremely friendly to bikes - but the cycle culture, the sheer quantity of aggressive cyclists, and the relatively complex rules of riding make cycling somewhat intimidating for novices. If you’re here for a while and cycling makes sense for your route, or you’re a strong cyclist and couldn’t live without biking around - by all means bike in the city.
For others, you can get along just fine with public transit and walking. But I would highly recommend renting a bike for a day or two and only riding it to get out of the city into the countryside - which is an outstanding way to spend a day and really a can’t-miss experience in the Netherlands.
What I did personally was rent a bike in Noord and ride out to the Waterland area, which a local advised me to visit. It was really one of the highlights of my trip - see if you can do something like that.

Getting out of Town

I made the decision, partly due to my mood that month, partly due to my schedule, to not stress about heading out of town very much and just focus on Amsterdam itself. So I don’t have much advice here.
Waterland by bike, as I mentioned, was a great day trip. But that’s not very far, and I think it’s technically still Amsterdam.
I had the opportunity to visit Haarlem and Zandvoort one day. I’ll say neither were super thrilling or anything on that windy day in April, but both were nice. Haarlem is really very charming, and I wish I had spent more time there. It’s really easy to get to; barely counts as being outside Amsterdam. The only attraction I visited, besides a cafe (La Maru), was the windmill at the northeast side of town. It was great, and I got to see it working - though be advised it’s a reconstruction.
There were great views at Zandvoort (I think you can see all the way to the Hague? Correct me if I’m wrong), but otherwise I found it to be an average beach town. Probably there’s a better vibe in the summer.

Splendor

Lastly, I want to give a shout out to a small venue I went to several times during my trip: Splendor Amsterdam. It’s a musician-owned venue and arts organization that has at least 1 to 4 inexpensive concerts every single week. There’s a bar inside too, that’s open before and after the shows. There seems to be a regular group of patrons there; everyone is very friendly. It’s classical, jazz, folk, experimental - there’s a lot of variety.
Check it out, if you’re looking for something to do some evening: https://splendoramsterdam.com/.

Are there vegetables that cover most of the vitamins and minerals that fruit create?
I look at something like Acai berry, and it covers such a broad spectrum of nutrients.

2024.05.30 20:41 ElmerAdrianV What do you think about my training?

I'm 20 years old, only soccer sport experience but quit before covid and currently have 1 year of experience in bouldering and I want to dedicate my summer to increase my climbing level. I'm currently completing almost all the v4 that I climb in one or two sessions and project without to many success v5. I don't have significant experiences in sport climbing but its something that I want to try and improve.
I'm here to ask for opinion about the nutrition, training and also the supplements plan that I made with help of ChatGPT and the notes that I took from Hooper's Beta and Emil Abrahamsson YT Channel and 9 out of 10 climbers make the same mistakes by dave mcleod. This is a draft and it will modify according to my body. Don't be rude with that will be generate from ChatGPT, it was a help to make order and have and starting point after a overload of newbie research
Climbing Specific Training:
- Technique Focus: Spend time working on your climbing technique, which can often be a big factor when progressing to harder grades. Consider getting a few sessions with a climbing coach to refine your skills.
- Fall Practice: To overcome the fear of falling in sport climbing, practice controlled falls in a safe environment. This helps build confidence in your ability to handle falls safely.
- Strength Training: Incorporate fingerboard training, campus boarding, and general strength conditioning into your routine. These can help you break through plateaus in bouldering.
Climbing Training Plan
Weekly Structure:
. Do longer routes or multiple shorter routes with little rest in between.

Strength and Conditioning Exercises

Mental Preparation

Cardio and Overall Fitness:
- Running: Running from work to the gym is a great idea. Try to vary your pace and include some interval training to improve endurance and recovery.
Diet and Nutrition:
- Protein Intake: Ensure you’re getting enough protein to aid muscle recovery. Aim for about 1.4 to 2.0 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day.
- Hydration and Electrolytes: Staying hydrated is crucial, especially with your climbing and running schedule. Include electrolytes in your hydration plan, especially on intense training days.
- Creatine Use: Since you’re taking creatine, make sure to stay well-hydrated as creatine can increase the need for water. Also, consider timing your creatine intake to improve its efficacy (e.g., post-workout).

Dietary Plan and Recipes

Specific Recipes for Performance and Recovery

  1. Pre-Workout Smoothie:
- Ingredients: Banana, a scoop of protein powder, almond milk, a handful of spinach, and a tablespoon of flaxseeds.

  1. Omega-3 Fatty Acids (Fish Oil):
- Purpose: Helps reduce inflammation, which can be beneficial after intense physical activities.
- Usage: 1-3 grams per day, ideally with a meal.
  1. Magnesium:
- Purpose: Important for muscle function and recovery, and it helps maintain electrolyte balance.
- Usage: 200-400 mg in the evening can help with muscle relaxation and may improve sleep quality.

Hydration

Maintaining hydration is crucial, especially for climbers who are physically active for extended periods.
