Another SFF SM560
Short story :D I got tired of nr200p so I build a micro ATX build in Gamemax SPARK. I put my nr200 on sale but ended up trading it with someone for SM560 + I payed the difference. Since the mATX build was too boring, no real tinkering needed everything just worked perfectly, when I realized I don't really like gaming, I like building PCs and playing with undervolting, ...

Actually I was avoiding the stock coolers but they do the job if you downclock the cpus a little. Will see how the AXP90-X47 will allow me to go little higher while keeping it silent as possible.

2024.06.02 11:21 fmmtoatesluate GB removal experience journey for an extremely anxious person

For context:
I want to share my experience through all this journey in the hopes that it will help other anxious people. I read many posts and comments before my surgery from this community and some helped me a little bit. I will write a longer post detailing all my experience. Please note that I am living in Romania, Europe and some of the things are different compared to USA, also my english is not that great.
In first week of April I did a random ultrasound checkup and the doctor said: “OHhhh what did we find here?”. I felt suddenly like my heart would explode. I asked what ? he turned the screen towards me “See those tiny white dots? Those are stones in the GB.” Ok…and what does that mean? “Gotta take the GB out!”. Out how? “Surgery”. Instant panic attack. Hyperventilating, felt like i was gonna vomit, pass out, shit myself, drop dead all at the same time.
After a few days of researching everything regarding GB i switched to a very strict low-fat diet. Middle of April went to a gastroenterologist for another ultrasound. Doc confirmed tiny stones in GB and said “Many people make stones in the GB during their lifetime, but not all of them turn symptomatic. As long as you don’t have any symptoms we don’t talk about surgery. Carry on with your life, eat healthy, exercise, avoid fats and control your stress levels”.
That calmed me down for a while. Said to myself “If i have to eat low-fat diet forever, so be it. Anything to avoid surgery”. That worked fine until Friday, 10th of May when I ordered some food at home (grilled chicken breast with hummus). The food had a bit too much olive oil. I thought “well it’s not that much, ill just scrape it away on the side of the plate” knowing very well have much fat is in olive oil.
6-7 hours later I started getting stomach pain. Felt like an ache, between xiphoid bone all the way to the belly button. I didn’t have any pain in the right side under rib cage, or shoulder or back. But it got worse and worse. Vomited furiously several times. It lasted from 10PM until 6AM and it was the worst pain of my life. No other pain was even close to this. Absolutely nothing helped, no yoga pose, no ammount of walking, no pain killers nothing. The only thing that calmed me down was that I took a hot bath around 5AM and while in the water the pain started to go away. I kinda new in the back of my mind that it’s probably the GB but I kept hoping that maybe it is just a bad experience with food and stomach is upset.
Next day Saturday 11th of May when I woke up I didn’t have much pain. Being the self-proclaimed google doctor, I layed down, took a deep breath while pushing with 2 fingers underneath the right rib cage. Felt pain when inhaling, meaning Murphy sign positive. Started to freak out. Did more hot baths and during the day i kept a 2L plastic bottle filled with hot water on the GB area. Was feeling ok, pain was 2/10 but only when inhaling. Towards the evening urine started to get really dark and my eyes were getting yellow.
Sunday 12th of May. Woke up, urine still very dark, eyes even more yellow. The fear and anxiety was massive. Called surgeon and he said “Most likely there is a stone blocked somewhere, we gotta take it out with ERCP and only after that we can do surgery. You should go to the ER”. LIterally my worst fears confirmed. I was extremely scared about the ERCP procedure, i just don’t want someone shoving down a tube down my throat all the way to the bile ducts.
Went to ER, massive panic attack. I literally thought i will die. They did a lot of tests, 2 sets of ultrasounds from different doctors to confirm. What they noticed was that the CBD (Common bile duct) was narrow and that means the stone has passed. If there is a stone trapped, the CBD expands in size, the body trying to make room for the stone to pass. That was some sort of relief. After all the tests and bloodwork (bilirubin was high 4.5), i was waiting for surgeons to come and talk to me. That was the highest peak of anxiety. I felt quite ok at that moment, no pain and naively was hoping for some medicine and to be allowed to go home.
2 surgeons came to me: “Mr. X? We would want to admit you to hospital and give you surgery to take the GB out”. There are no words to describe the terror I was feeling in that moment. Completely terrified is an understatement. I said ok knowing that if I go home i’ll probably have to return here anyway.
Main surgeon guy explained to me that I made some complications. During the Friday night attack a stone passed and it got trapped in the CBD. It stayed there for a few hours and eventually I was able to pass it, hence the narrowing of the duct. But the GB became very inflamed and he can’t do Laparoscopic surgery as it is too big to take out, and he prefers not to cut me open. So they gave me very strong IV’s with anti-inflammatories and antibiotics to reduce the size of the GB. He said if all goes well and bilirubin levels drop, tomorrow we can do surgery.
Next day, Monday 13th of may, bilirubin levels dropped to 2.5. I didn’t know what was about to happen but I knew that most likely i’ll get surgery that day. Massive anxiety. Around 1pm anesthesiologist visited me asking me about medications i take, allergies, and so on. I kept repeating that i am extremely anxious, i am very scared, i can’t get through this, i feel like i want to run away and so on.
She gave me Lorazepam pill (some benzodiazepine). That didn’t accomplish anything, as my system was flooded with cortisol and adrenaline from all the fear. At around 3PM a lady doctor came to me with a massive 20ml syringe and said “I heard you are scared and want something magical”. It truly was magical. After 5 seconds I had no more fear, and felt extremely relaxed. It was like I was drunk but without the room spinning around me, hard to explain. She said we go to the operating room (OR), and i could barely walk anymore and was leaning on her. I have no memory how I got to the OR which was 2 floors lower and apparently I walked there. All I remember was that I climbed on the surgery table and asked the doctors “Why is it so cold in here? Is this normal?” and I literally woke up in the room post-op.
For me it felt truly like blinking. It didn’t feel at all like waking up from a dream. It was instant, snap. Blinking is the closest explanation. Fascinating. So I woke up tucked in underneath the sheets and when i take them out I see a drainage tube getting out of me. Started to freak out, but the anesthesia was still strong and I couldn’t possibly get super anxious. They also gave me in a small recipient some stones. Surgeon came to see me. He said that my gallbladder was really big and it wasn’t very easy to take it out without cutting me open but he managed. He said the stones that he gave me were just a small sample, and that my GB had a lot of tiny stones and sludge and pus was starting to form inside from the infection. Good riddance.
Recovery
After a few hours I started to walk around. I didn’t get much pain from the co2 gas, but my intestines felt bloated. All the tricks that I read around this community were very useful (keep walking as often as you can but dont overextend yourself, try to fart to eliminate the gas, watched video how to get out of bed, having pillow over abdomen and so on). If you want me to post specific tips, let me know in comments.
They kept me 2 nights in hospital because i was very scared and i had pain. For me it wasn’t like a relief “it’s finally over” because of my anxious mind. I kept thinking what if something bad happens? And I kept having pain. All the doctors, nurses and surgeon kept assuring me that it is normal the way i feel and that i am fine, however i couldn’t tell if what i was feeling is normal post-op pain or something bigger, as there is no way to compare. My anxious mind made me argue with the surgeon to keep me another night in the hospital because “What if something bad happens at home? I have no support, no help, here in the hospital at least they can intervene” - he said no, and that i shouldn’t worry and go home and that he never heard someone say he wants to stay more time in the hospital instead of going home. So they let me go Wednesday 15th of May.
First week each day was better than the previous, but still with pain. Sleeping was very difficult as ive been told to sleep on my back inclined a bit with a few pillows. To better describe the pain: it was like a constant 3-4/10. Annoying. Couldn’t walk with my back straight. Was getting tired extremely fast. Had no energy for anything. But the biggest problem was that first week I got constipated when I am the type of guy who goes everyday in the morning like clockwork. I took first poop after 6 days.
After 11 days I had a very bad experience. I was still constipated and i tried going but I felt i had something massive inside. Bare in mind that i was taking everyday a stool softener. I started getting shivers and pain, it literally wouldn’t move. Was in quite some pain. After some redditing, many people suggested to shove a finger inside and try to dislodge it. Absolutely gross. It trully felt like a massive block of stone. Once again, massive anxiety and fear. Barely made it to pharmacy and they gave me glycerine suppositories. Shoved 2 inside over the span of 30 minutes without any effect. Was getting desperate and was barely moving from the pain. Wife went to another pharmacy and bought some micro-enema kits.
Word of advice: as I am in europe we have different things here, but there is basically a saline enema kit. Be careful with this as you can have pain after it quite a lot (after you pass the poop). So i got the saline enema as a backup but also a kit with liquid glycerine with chammomile and some other plant. In 5 mins i lost 1.5kg of weight. Felt like Satan was getting out of my body, the relief is undescribable. For your information: glycerine suppositories are just coating the inner walls for the poop to move more easily, but it doesn’t “dissolve” the poop. This enema thing that i got is basically “grabbing” the water from the inner walls and makes everything more liquid. It worked and I recommend it.
Now I am 2 weeks + 5 days after surgery. I don’t get much pain, but sometimes i get some twinges where the GB used to be, like some sharp pains all of a sudden (anyone else experienced this?). Usually happens when I move suddenly or i twist my body, sometimes randomly. It lasts just a few seconds. I can sleep on the right side, however if i do it all night i wake up with pain, so i still try to do go to sleep on my back. Energy levels are getting back to normal, I don’t get tired so fast anymore. I felt good one day and did a bit of work on my PC desk setup (cable management and all that). I didnt lift anything heavy but all this moving and bending gave me pain after. So I am trying to avoid any exercise, lifting, bending, pushing, etc. Using mostly my back and legs muscles.I see others here eating whatever they want, but my surgeon told me to keep a strict diet for a month after surgery and only after that to reintroduce slowly different fats and keep a food journal to track if something upsets me. I also have fatty liver and they gave me some enzyme pills or something that I have to take for 6 months.
Oh one more thing: here we dont use glue on the incisions, they use sutures and you have to take them out after 1 week. There is no pain only a small discomfort for a few seconds. All procedure takes less than 30 seconds, nothing to worry about (I was very anxious about it previously). Also, if you end up with a drain tube inside of you: when they take it out, pain is around 3/10 but you will have an incredibly weird feeling that is extremely hard to describe as nothing compares to it. It feels like someone is shoving down his hand inside of you and grabs your guts and pulls them out forcefully. I know it sounds scary but once again, it lasts like 3 seconds in total. It’s just extremely weird.
Any other questions, shoot in the comments! I hope this was helpful to anyone, as it was for me to get it “out of the system” as well. If you need any tips or words of advice, don’t hesitate.

🔗Realistic Cheap 3D Archery Target for Practicing Hunting Skills

https://preview.redd.it/rwx2dmvkk34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48c6f4870cd15426751da7391ab747b26b908a2a
As I took aim at the Delta McKenzie Aim-Rite Black Bear 3D Archery Target, I couldn't help but appreciate the lifelike look of my furry friend. The target's vibrant colors and true-to-life texture made for a realistic experience, without having to worry about encountering real wildlife.
The target's durability impressed me - even after countless shots, it still held its shape. Its lightweight FlexFoam construction made extraction of my arrows a breeze, and its UV-resistant coating added an extra layer of protection against the elements. The scoring rings on the vital area were a fantastic touch, not only offering realistic practice but also a competitive edge in 3D target competitions.
However, one downside was the need for a separate rebar to set the target up, and the challenging arrow removal did require a tool. Additionally, the target seemed to favor field tips over broadheads. Despite these minor drawbacks, I still found the Delta McKenzie Aim-Rite Black Bear 3D Archery Target to offer excellent value for money and a thrilling archery experience.

🔗Trophy Ridge Whisker Biscuit V Arrow Rest - V-Notch, Perpendicular Bristles, tool-less Windage and Elevation Adjustments

https://preview.redd.it/wjklmeklk34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a3d20ab9c9e5d5bdfb055ab7d1b73159aee007b5
The Trophy Ridge Whisker Biscuit V arrow rest has become my go-to for archery sessions. This tool-less windage and elevation adjustment really make a difference in accuracy, and the patented V-notch technology ensures a consistent arrow trajectory. I've also noticed that the perpendicular bristles reduce vane drag, allowing the arrow to maintain velocity with every shot.
However, I've noticed that the arrow does bounce around a little more than I'd like when walking and stalking, and it would be ideal if it stayed put more consistently. The design also lacks an up/down adjustment, but I've managed to adapt and overcome that small issue.
Overall, the Trophy Ridge Whisker Biscuit V is a reliable and user-friendly arrow rest. With its ambidextrous design, it's a great choice for left- and right-handed bows alike, and its sleek black finish is a nice added touch. At the right price, this rest is certainly worth a try.

🔗Sealskin Arrow Rest with Flexible Launcher Arm

https://preview.redd.it/hh8q9dvlk34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=705ec5510b7ffebbe70832948028390f6f7dab90
As a bow enthusiast, I recently had the chance to try out the AAE Hawk Eye Rest Black RH rest. It made my shooting experience so much better, especially due to its full capture and limb-driven design. The flexible launcher arm provided added accuracy, while the dual bushing system with a precision ground axle and sliding launcher system ensured smooth tuning.
One of the most impressive features was AAE's limb sandwich and Launchpad, which made set-up a breeze and kept my shooting as quiet as possible. The adjustable cage also offered full arrow containment, giving me great peace of mind. However, I did notice that the weight might be a tad heavy for some users, at 0.25 lb. Nevertheless, overall, I was thrilled with the performance of the AAE Hawk Eye Rest Black RH and would highly recommend it to fellow archers.

🔗Ultimate Adjustable Finger Shooter Arrow Rest

https://preview.redd.it/ht0po99mk34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=015788d6a4a7fef84d8adbc0000fd2bfbe827c7d
I've been using the AAE Free Flyte Micro Arrow Rest for a while now, and I must say, it's been a game-changer for my archery sessions. The "Micro" in the product name doesn't refer to the size but rather the tiny horizontal adjustments you can make using the brass screw. This feature enables you to "super tune" your bow, which is a huge plus for me.
One of the aspects I appreciate about this rest is its build quality. It's been built to last and feels sturdy in my hands. The horizontal micro-adjustment is easy to use, and I've been able to make the necessary tweaks to get the perfect shot.
However, I have encountered one minor downside. Since I use a plunger, the first thing I did was to take off the pressure plate, or "spint. " There wasn't enough adjustment left for me with 5/16 Dia. arrows. But all in all, if you're looking for a high-quality, easy-to-use arrow rest, this one would be worth considering.

🔗Modern Left-Handed Compound Bow Arrow Rest for Enhanced Accuracy

https://preview.redd.it/sf8u32mmk34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f5196b52b35c171e99bb46628f105e8de9e75abe
As an avid archer, I recently had the chance to try out the AAE Super Flyte Rest LH during a friend's birthday party. This finger shooting flipper rest is designed specifically for left-handed users and worked flawlessly with my modern compound bow.
One of the standout features of the Super Flyte is its versatile mounting bracket, making installation a breeze. The removable spine plate was also a game-changer, as I was able to use it with and without a plunger seamlessly. Additionally, the adjustable windage via a hex rod allowed for deep center shot bows, providing accuracy like never before.
However, the replaceable support arm took a bit of getting used to, as it required quick changes when needed. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with the AAE Super Flyte Rest LH and its ability to solve numerous tuning problems in a single shot – especially for the price point.

Buyer's Guide

An AAE DOA (Drop Out At Anytime) arrow rest is an essential accessory for archers who want a convenient and reliable system for holding arrows on their bow. This buyer's guide will help you understand the key factors to consider when selecting an AAE DOA arrow rest to enhance your archery experience.

https://preview.redd.it/pjedhn5nk34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a59c0d47f4b4028e6f7c3bfb0b64db3f9324f7e2

Materials and Durability

A high-quality AAE DOA arrow rest should be made from durable materials such as aluminum, plastic, or composite materials that can withstand heavy use and harsh weather conditions without getting damaged. The material should also minimize friction between the rest and the arrow, ensuring smooth release and reduced wear on the arrow shaft.

Design and Adjustability

Consider the design and adjustability features of the AAE DOA arrow rest. Look for a design with a spring-loaded release mechanism that allows for easy drop-out and consistent arrow positioning. Adjustable positioning of the rest is also important, as it allows archers to set up their equipment for different shooting styles and heights.

2024.06.02 03:53 ariel_delong97 Lucky Lake Honest Review

I did Lucky Lake camping last year for my first Forest 🌳⚡️🧚🏼‍♀️ That said, I feel like it’s worth making a post about it to help out Forest fam.
2023 was their first year having Lucky Lake as a camping option, and thus there was limited info about it, so I didn’t really know much of what to expect. Gonna do my best to share pros and cons and be as objective as possible while also sharing my personal Lucky Lake experience. 🤓
Skip to the end for TLDR version
(CON: Initial confusion and disorganization stemming from HQ)
(PRO: The lake!!!)
(CON: No HQ-hosted bonfires?)
(PRO: The AC restrooms & complimentary unlimited showers)
(PRO: Ice sales and dedicated food vendor)
(CON: Close to the afters)
(PRO: The shuttle service to Tripolee)
All-in-all, I loved the Lucky Lake camping experience and would for sure do it again. I’m hoping this post is helpful for Forest fam, and would love to see thoughts and opinions from other 2023 Lucky Lakers. Glad to answer any questions as well!
TLDR: Highly recommend Lucky Lake. Just be aware of the cons beforehand, and hopefully 2 of those 3 cons will be resolved for this upcoming EF.
Happy Forest 🌲✨

2024.06.01 18:21 Cult-O-Cthulhu [WTS] Pelikan M400, Visconti Van Gogh, Platinum 3776, Sailor Compass

Main Verification - https://imgur.com/a/zrgKDqK
Letting go of a few pens I never reach for. Pricing included CONUS shipping. Open to international sales, buyer pays shipping. All sub rules apply, comment before PM, PayPal G&S only.
Platinum 3776 SF - C? Condition. Normal wear and tear (micro-micro scratches) from use on cap and barrel. Nib is in excellent condition, a lovely, bouncy soft-fine. I cannot for the life of me find the original converter. Happy to include a gold trim one, mild purple staining from R&K Scabiosa but fully functional. Orginally purchased this pen years back on PenSwap. Box/papers/cartridge included. $110 OBO, CONUS https://imgur.com/a/viEia0S
PENDING SALE Pelikan M400 Broad - B Condition. My first Pelikan, this was purchased a few years back and babied. The broad nib is JUICY and showcases inks marvelously. Not sure where the original box landed but will include the roll/pouch. $165 (if you really want a Pelikan box I can ship it in a spare M800 box for an additional $10) https://imgur.com/a/LuLBs2i
Visconti Van Gogh Wheatfield with Crows Medium - D Condition. Pen itself is in perfect shape with no scratches/dings/cracks, but the nib came with the worst baby's bottom that I had to work out. Writes like a dream now, but D rating due to the nib work. Will ship in original box with ink. Box is slightly damaged from a move, ink is full/unused. $125 OBO https://imgur.com/a/1ABqces
Sailor Compass Green Medium Fine - $15 OBO, or will throw in for free with purchase of any other pen. Not a fan of the steel nib or feedback. Kind of just want it out of my life. The nib has a scratch near the slit, came to me that way and I never loved the pen enough to be bothered by it. https://imgur.com/a/acoKAOZ
If you need more details or pictures please PM. The tiny terror should be napping and I'll be readily available the next hour or two, otherwise I might not get back to you before tomorrow. Thanks all!

2024.06.01 18:11 donkeykong154 WTS/WTT CKF EVO T DLC

Hello everyone,
Today I have my CKF EVO T S90V DLC #119 up for sale or trade with a price reduction.
I received this in BNIB condition from a trade, I am the second owner, I have since carried it twice, coated blade with light film of Camellia oil and cut once to make a flower bouquet for significant other, and never disassembled. Action is terrific and near drop shut, blade is perfectly centered, and no blade play.
Full disclosure: Cleaning cloth has been used, one super tiny blemish on clip, and missing one washer in the extra hardware pouch.

2024.06.01 14:48 Skylance420 Recommended Accessories for Trimui Smart Pro

Hey all. I wanted to provide a couple of ideas for accessories for anyone that may be looking around for some for their Trimui Smart Pro. I've purchased and used all items I'm showing myself and find them to be nice enough to share with you all. With the AliExpress sale going on, you may be able to pick some up even cheaper than usual, but nothing here is expensive normally in any way, so don't feel bad if you miss the sale.

SD Card

I have jumped between a few SD Cards as I've increased the amount of games in my collection. I originally purchased the device with no included card and had an additional 128GB Sandisk Extreme card which worked well but after filling it up, decided to upgrade one of my other devices from 512GB to 1TB and passed the 512GB card down to my TSP. Currently, I'm using a TeamGroup 512GB Micro SD Card which goes for around $35 on Amazon, shipped in the US. It's been solid and more than holds everything I want for my TSP. Let this be confirmation for you that the TSP does support at least 512GB cards, and likely higher, but you shouldn't need more than this really ever.

Thumbstick Caps

I also picked up a PS Vita 2000 around the time I got my TSP so I said why not get some thumbstick caps since they should fit both devices and I may like them. Here are the caps I purchased on AliExpress for just over $1 a pack. I ordered two packs as each one has 6 different cap styles but only one of each style. I wanted a pair in each style so I ordered two packs and use them on both my Vita and TSP. They obviously impact the pocketability of the device as seen in my pictures, but I think they add some nice comfort when using the sticks and don't impact their usability at all. For the price, I recommend getting them and seeing if they work well for you.

Screen Protector

I heavily recommend getting these Mr. Shield Glass Screen Protectors for the TSP. You can find them on Amazon for $10 but also on AliExpress, though they're the same price so probably go with Amazon for faster shipping. Given that the TSP screen is plastic, these add a definite hardness upgrade given that they're actually tempered glass. Well worth the cost.

Travel Case

I've seen questions about what case to get for the TSP. Despite it's low price, many people will still prefer to keep it stored safely in a bag versus chucking it in their pocket. While the TSP and Vita 1000 are comparable in size, some more form-fitting Vita cases may not work. My hardshell Vita 2000 case is a super tight squeeze for the TSP but the Vita soft sleeve is a good fit for it if that's your thing. Otherwise, I recommend this hardshell Trimui case which is a perfect fit for the TSP. It's got some minimal branding, a matte black look, decent little mesh pocket, and is cheap on AliExpress at under $4. The Vita soft sleeve is also only $2 on AliExpress if you want one.
I think that covers everything I have purchased for my Trimui Smart Pro as of now. If you have any recommendations of your own feel free to drop them in the comments, and let me know if you have any more questions about the items I shared here.

2024.06.01 12:49 TFVooDoo A Note About Strength Training

Given the recent discussion of Shut Up And Ruck’s strength programming, I thought it might be appropriate to address a few lingering comments.
First, we’re not immune to criticism. It is perfectly reasonable to criticize whenever and whoever you want, even me. Clearly, the anonymity of the internet provides ample license to do so. I’m not infallible and I make at least one mistake every fiscal year. I get downvoted all the time and I recognize that many things that I say are taken as gospel based on my years of providing accurate information. I don’t take this leniency lightly. I’ve earned this gift and I don’t look gift horses in the mouth. I certainly don’t shy away from criticizing others, but I always seek to do so from a position of best intentions of the outcome. But if you think that it’s appropriate to draw conclusions like “He definitely doesn’t know what he’s talking about”, “It violates basic principles”, or my favorite “It looks like he stole this from X, Y, or Z” and you’re basing that on one tiny screenshot of one sample day of one singular domain absent of context of the entirety of the programming then you must be special. I wish I had that sort of clairvoyance.
Second, our programming is not a mistake. Is it aggressive? Absolutely. Is it wrong? Absolutely not. It is deliberate and intentional. A few points to consider:
-The higher percentages and rep ranges occur at the end of each cycle. You don’t start off at the high end, you finish there. The passage cited is 9 weeks post 1RM testing. At a minimum the higher % come 5 weeks after testing. You get stronger and the programming reflects that.
-Just because you’ve never done anything like this doesn’t mean much. We follow the evidence, and the literature clearly indicates that our recommendations are appropriate. Aggressive, but appropriate. Here are 6 sources, including some meta-analyses that bring the body of knowledge to several hundred; there are many more.
Source 1
Source 2
Source 3
Source 4
Source 5
Source 6
Your experience not withstanding, our programming is entirely valid. This is especially true given the other variables. 1) we prioritize intensity and we manifest that through heavy weights 2) you only lift each exercise 2 times in every 5 day cycle - plenty of time for macro recovery 3) you are resting up to 4 minutes between sets - plenty of time for micro recovery 4) you are only doing 3 lifts in a day and only one for that domain - you aren’t doing 3 sets of barbell bench, then 3 sets of incline, then 3 sets of decline, then some cable cross-overs, then some dumbbell flys, then finishing with some drop sets on the Smith machine. 1 exercise, at maximal intensity. No need to pace yourself. 5) we are seeking to balance strength and endurance. It’s impossible to fully address both simultaneously. There will inevitably be friction. 6) we are seeking to challenge you, not accommodate you. 7) we emphasize self-reflection, data analysis, and agency. If you are struggling to meet the listed criteria then we encourage you to program accordingly. It’s foundational to our approach.
But allow me to let you in on a little secret. Even though we cite no small amount of literature, you can find lots of literature that argues against our programming. In fact, there is so much ‘literature’ out there that you can find supporting information for damn near everything and anything. So, back to my first point, you are welcome to criticize. But you should at least provide some counter-evidence beyond “in my experience”. In the Taxonomy of Information, anecdotal testimony is the least rigorous. We have presented our arguments, you are invited to present yours. Or be a little more graceful in your criticism.
We are well aware of Prilepin’s optimal reps (for powerlifting), and the NASM 5 Phase Optimum Performance Training Model (which we follow) and the NSCA Performance Pyramid (which we follow). We don’t disagree that they are to be well considered. We did a full and complete survey of the information environment. But we stated in our introduction and made available for free our philosophy…we have no interest in preserving the credentialed protectorate of the fitness industry. SFAS is different, so shall the programming be.
Third, we didn’t “steal” another program and stack it on top of our own stuff. That’s not how this works. If you survey all of the programs and methodology out there, you will find a ton of overlap. If you follow established principles and seek consensus, then you end up looking a lot like the other stuff. Did we look at other programs? Yes, dozens of them. Did we steal them? No. The fact that we favor a more intense program that most programs don’t should make this argument moot. This is a serious accusation and should be reserved for the most egregious circumstances. You might not have experience with this type of programming, you might not be familiar with recent literature, and you are only seeing a very minuscule event absent of any of the other programming and ancillary elements.
Fourth, and finally, I want to address the unhinged discussion of cost. We’re particularly sensitive to this topic because we know that our target population skews younger and likely less affluent, so cost matters. And I don’t like calling guys out necessarily, but u/Certain-Exam-2577 and u/Potential_Presence67 ? You two can go fuck yourselves. You anonymous peices of shit decided from your castles on top of Mount Holy that we are looking for a “money grab”? I could have charged hundreds, I could put all of my content behind a paywall, and I could simply pump and dump and walk away to stack cash. But that’s not the case.
What do you two fucking genius economists think would be appropriate for 8 months of daily programming for strength, conditioning, rucking, mental prep, mobility, skills, recovery and much more? We charge 60 dollars. Let’s take a very small survey the prep environment and see where we stack up:
Evoke - 3 months, requires additional programming prerequisites, $65
Performance First - 3 months, $90
18A Fitness - 4 months, $179
Gritty Soldier - 3 months, $30
Mountain Tactical - 12 months, $329
Blue/Green Training - 11 weeks, $129
We’re looking pretty competitive given these numbers. And these are the better programs. We mostly like them (and others) and we have tremendous respect for their creators and coaches. We don’t think they are as good as ours, especially our ruck programming, but they’re in the ballpark. Many guys in this sub have used them and speak highly of them. There are also near endless shit programs out there. AI generated, generic, point-of-sale trash with slick marketing and zero support.
We are a complete program that covers every single domain, and we have well established our expertise for SFAS. But we don’t rely on reputation, we deliver. We research, analyze, synthesize, and present the most comprehensive program out there. For just 60 bucks. Hell, you’ll spend over half that on a blank journal…we’ve recommended this excellent journal many times. But that’s just a cool journal. Zero programming. So we think we’re not “grabbing” too much.
Our resident pricks go on to say that RUSU wasn’t worth $50. Good thing we only charge $40. And perhaps you’d prefer the 15+ year old, lack-luster competition? They’re in the same price range. They even take a cheap shot at our Muster events as just a ‘wAlK iN tHe wOoDs tHaT yOu cOuLd do for FrEe’ or ‘info you could probably find online’. Our “competition” is $750 and one of the programs isn’t even taught by a military guy, much less a Green Beret. You two retarded laureates haven’t even attended an event, so your opinion is irrelevant.
And I should put a pin in all of this money grab, predatory, grifter talk by reminding them that this is all voluntary. You don’t have to spend a single dime if you don’t want to. Lots of guys don’t do anything extra and they get Selected all the time. But if a guy wants to be compensated for his hard work and another guy wants to allocate the cost of a night out drinking, then maybe your keen criticism could be stymied a bit. I offer plenty of free advice and commentary every day. I note that neither of you provide anything of value.
So, that’s my assessment of the situation. You don’t have to be a part of the conversation, but I thought that I should let you know how I see it. I endlessly tell you about the importance of foot care, so it’s only fair that I weigh in on this important topic. I should note that there was also some very reasoned comments and lots of guys understanding the intent of the programming AND of the program. And the OP reached out via DM and we had a very reasonable and productive discussion. He gets it. And the number of guys commenting is <1% of the number of guys reading the actual full program. I like that guys are passionate about this stuff. If you get 10 Green Berets in a room you’ll get 11 different opinions on damn near every topic. You know what they say about opinions…

2024.06.01 12:29 thenonbinaries Help building on my routine?

I want to build a slightly more well advised routine, as my current one has just been me having an issue, finding one specific thing, and going with it. I have ADHD, and want to build some rituals for some routine, and general self care.
I'm in my 20s. I don't wear foundation or concealer, but I do wear a finishing powder because I prefer how it looks on me. I'm usually dehydrated because I forget to drink throughout the day (working on this!), so if I get lazy with my skincare then my forehead and nose can end up flakey from the powder. I deal with occasional breakouts on my cheekbones and chin, though these are probably hormonal; I do have a lot of *very* tiny little bumps on my cheekbones, but I can't tell if they're like micro-spots or just my skin. I have some minor bumpy texture on my forehead, too. I don't really have redness not attributed to my natural skintone.
I mostly want to work on keeping my skin healthy and generally cared for in the long run, and work on my moisture. Also the aforementioned rituals thing.
AM
PM
I have my mind on picking up a toner (I got a sample of the watermelon one from Glow Recipe that I liked a lot), a water based cleanser, and a different exfoliator (I like the feel of scrubs, but not sure if they're that great); I'm considering a lightweight moisturised for the mornings, but very on the fence; the COSRX cream works really well, but feels heavier than what I'd need/like for the mornings.
Also very unsure of the actual order to do things in after washing my face or cleansing, which is a reason I've kept my routine quite short.
Any help or recommendations would be much appreciated!

My PC Purpose is to play triple A and esports titles. Preferrably running esports titles at 240fps and playing Triple A Titles on high graphics at 60+ fps (Don't mind if using DLSS 3.0, FG etc). I would love to play cyberpunk on ultra graphics at 60fps+ without raytracing or with medium RT.
Purchase country? Near Micro Center? (If not US, list local vendors)
Im in New Zealand but using USD for ease of use as most people in this reddit I expect use USD.
Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate)
Nope
Budget range? (Include tax considerations)
900 - 1000USD
WiFi or wired connection?
Will be using it wired but have the option for WIFI too.
Size/noise constraints?
Nope, maybe not super loud but I think that's pretty standard for PC's not to be jet engines lol.
Cololighting preferences?
I do like RGB and would like atleast a tiny bit of colour if not much if possible.
Any other specific needs?
I want to use this PC for the next couple years without needing a GPU or CPU upgrade, I am a student. Any advice on if I should increase my budget by 100 or something like that is greatly appreciated.
I look forward to your guys help! Please use pcpartpicker or something lol.

2024.06.01 04:20 justainsel My shopping experience at Micro Center Charlotte

Drove a couple of hours to the early access opening of the new Micro Center in Charlotte. I was there about 20 minutes before the doors opened. There seemed to be about 40-50 people waiting in line with me.
I had my parts list saved on my phone. This was my first time shopping at a Micro Center, so I wasn't familiar with how the process worked. I went to the build a PC section and quickly found the video cards. I knew the rest of the items would be easy to get, so I wanted to lock the card down before they sold out. A salesperson walked over to open the glass cases to get a card for a customer they were helping so I asked if I could get one as well. I was told I needed to go to the desk and someone would help me. No issues with that, so I walked over to the desk and stood in line. They were pretty swamped so it took a good 20-30 minutes before someone was available to help me.
After someone was available, we went to the GPUs. They had both the 4070 Super and 4080 Super in stock in white. I had originally wanted to get the 4070 Super but changed my mind and went with the 4080 Super. He asked me what else I needed. I told him I could go find the rest of the items myself since there were still people waiting at the desk for help. He told me that he would continue helping me get everything I needed. This was the point that I remember reading that they work on commission. I've lived that life and understand how it works, so I showed him the rest of what I needed and we went to the different places and got everything. When we were don, he took the RAM, CPU, GPU, and SSDs to the register. I then roamed around the store looking at what else they had.
Overall I was very impressed with the store and the salespeople there. They seemed eager to help and knowledgeable when I asked a question. I'll definitely be going back again since I'll need to build another PC soon.
Here is a list of the parts I selected, what I paid for them, and the prices I found online at Amazon and New Egg. The sales that Micro Center was having (especially the 7800X3D) were huge. They didn't beat Amazon and New Egg in everything, but what they didn't beat I will go back and get price matched. The last column is what everything will end up costing after I do this.
Part Micro Center Amazon New Egg Price Match
Lian Li O11D Dynamic Evo White $154.99 $248.73 N/A $154.99
Corsair RM850 PSU White $139.99 $109.99 $124.99 $109.99
Lian Li Uni Fan LCD White (3) $149.99 $139.99 $149.99 $139.99
Lian Li Uni Fan White (3) $109.99 $99.99 $98.95 $98.95
Lian Li Uni Fan LCD White (1) $46.99 $46.99 $46.99 $46.99
Lian Li Galahad Trinity AIO $189.99 $159.99 $178.38 $159.99
Samsung 990 Pro NVMe 2 TB $159.99 $159.99 $159.99 $159.99
Samsung 990 Pro NVMe 4 TB $324.99 $339.99 $339.99 $324.99
Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU $199.71 $339.99 $339.99 $199.71
Corsair 64 GB (2x32) DDR5 6600 RAM $339.99 $309.99 $309.99 $309.99
Asus Strix 4080 Super $1,299.99 $1,299.99 $1,299.99 $1,299.99
Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite Ax Ice $199.99 N/A $228.99 $199.99
Total $3,316.60 $3,484.62 $3,526.97 $3,205.56
One item each wasn't available at Amazon and New Egg so I used the other's price in the calculations. My assumption was the Micro Center price was better than both the other two if they had been in stock at both places.
As a side note, I will take back the case and the PSU. I decided to go with the Lian Li O11D RGB. I also wanted a white 1000 W PSU and Micro Center didn't have one in stock so I went with the 850. I did some more research when I got home and ordered one I'll be happier with.

2024.05.31 10:58 ExactAbroad17 Trip Report - May 2024 - Family of 4

Hello reddit community,
We have just returned from a fantastic 16-day trip to Japan. Here is our experience, I hope it helps some of you with planning your trip!
Places visited
· Osaka
· Nara
· Hiroshima
· Miyajima
· Himeji
· Kanazawa
· Takayama
· Tokyo
About us
Myself (36yr F), husband (39yr M), and our kids (10 yr old daughter & 7yr old son) from Melbourne, Australia.
Likes
beautiful nature, exploring new areas, shopping, anime (husband), Pokemon (kids & husband), Japanese food and culture. We went to Japan 10 years ago and visited Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto, Nara, & Hakone, so this time we wanted to return to some of our favourite places and experience some new ones. I know this is an unpopular opinion but Kyoto was actually our least favourite place of our last trip, so we opted to skip Kyoto for this one.
May weather
We specifically chose to travel in May as we wanted to avoid the crazy crowds in the peak times and have mild weather. The weather while we were there was average 21-28 degrees celsius, perfect t-shirt and shorts weather. In 16 days we had only 3 days with rain (2 days of off and on drizzle in Takayama, and 1 day of torrential rain in Osaka).
Packing
We wanted to pack light (no suitcases, because there are so many stairs and finding lifts is time consuming and involves a lot more steps). We took 4 x backpacks (1 each) and 2 x hiking back packs (for all our clothes). Packed clothes for 5 days. I packed 2 x jumpers and 2 x pants each, but 1 each would have been fine. 1 pair of good runners each. kids took 1 teddy each. 3 of our hotels we had washing machines in our rooms, and the others had a laundry room with coin machines. I did washing 3 times. Clothing wise, Japanese people dress very conservatively, so we took that into consideration when packing. Especially because I live in activewear normally. I saw no one wearing activewear at all!
Flights
We flew from in and out of Osaka from Melbourne, which we got on sale for $575 AUD return each person
Transport
We travelled exclusively on public transport. Mostly trains, Shinkansen between major citites, trams and some buses. We found public transport to be easy to navigate, well signed in english also, and frequent. My husband broke his foot badly 1 year ago and still has issues with it, and with 2 kids in tow we always opted for getting on a train to get us closer to where we needed to be, even if it meant transferring train lines a few times. The IC cards come in super handy for this!!. We saved so many steps each day by doing this, and saved a lot of complaints from the kids about tired legs!
IC cards - My husband and I both downloaded Suica cards in our Apple wallets on our iPhone, its super easy to do and super easy to top up. Had no problems topping up with AMEX or Mastercard that was in our apple wallet. The only issue we had with the digital cards is that you chew through so much phone battery taking pictures and videos and using google maps there were many days we were stressed about our phones dying. So make sure you always take a power bank with you just in case.
Kids IC cards - You cant get digital kids IC cards, and our kids don't have their own phones either so I picked up 2 x kids ICOCA IC cards from the JR ticket office at Umeda station (osaka). Just make sure you have their passports with you. The kids fares are half the price of adults, so its worthwhile getting them for how much you use the trains. You can top up the cards at almost all ticket machines (cash only).
Transport passes - We purchased the JR West Kansai-Hiroshima area pass in advance online as this worked out cheaper for our itinerary than individual tickets. I picked up the pass from the JR ticket office at Kansai Airport station. Also purchased a 1 day Osaka-metro pass (820 yen for an adult) only on one day for moving around osaka alot. You can get them from any osaka-metro station ticket machine.
Shinkansen Tickets - I only booked our first shinkansen (Osaka - Hiroshima) in advance, online through JR west website, which i picked up at the airport station when we arrived. We booked most of the others either on the spot (No issues getting a seat), or through the Smart Ex app ( Tokyo - Osaka) We booked that one in the morning of the day we were travelling, and i'm glad we did as the train was almost full when we got on (5:47pm time).
Language
I know a little bit of Japanese ( from what i remember from learning Japanese in high school). My husband and the kids played on duolingo for a few months before hand. Most people in Osaka, Tokyo, and touristy places spoke a fair bit of english. But we tried to speak some Japanese where we could. We downloaded Google translate, and DeepL. The translation on DeepL was much better and a more accurate than google translate. The translate camera function is fantastic for shopping for food and working out how to use the washing machines etc. The Japanese people were always so happy when our kids spoke some japanese to them.
Advance bookings
Hotels - Some through booking .com and others direct to the hotel. We found the prices were mostly better when booking direct to the hotel
Universal Studios - 2 months before hand. we bought express passes and studio passes. i tried to purchase through the USJ website but had no luck with it accepting our credit cards. we tried AMEX, Visa, and Mastercard. gave up and purchased through Klook. Yes you can now select times for timed entries on Klook.
DisneySea - 1 month before. purchased through Disney site. nil issues.
TeamLab Planets - 2 months before, through official website
Sumo - We tried to get tickets to the sumo tournament for when we were in tokyo. We jumped online when the tickets were released, but the website crashed. After many many refreshes, when we finally got onto the site 1.5 hrs later, they were sold out for the days we could go :(
Food - Restaurants
We love good food, but don't fancy waiting in line for an hour to have an instagram hyped food. We made no bookings for restaurants, and just stopped when we saw something that looked good. It often involved a lot of walking as its difficult to get a spot for 4 people in some tiny restaurants. Street food was great! We used uber eats a few times from the hotel which was great for fussy kids, super quick and was reliable both times. the food was great too! Breakfast was mostly combini, yoghurt, smoothies, waffles. We found that department stores had great food halls (usually basement level) for takeaway with everything from sushi, salads, fried chicken, dumplings etc. A good option for groups with different tastes, affordable and a nice change from the combini food. Coffee almost everywhere was terrible.
HOTELS OSAKA - May 14 - APA Umeda-Eki tower. A pretty standard business hotel, small. location was ok, close enough to walk from umeda station. In hindsight, I should have just booked a room at the airport hotel. kids were absolutely exhausted from the 2am wake up in Melbourne with no sleep on the plane (too excited), our daughter was in tears at the airport from exhaustion. our son finally fell asleep on the train which meant i had to carry him (25kgs) and luggage through the station and to the hotel. we got to the hotel around 10pm. (approx $220 AUD 1 x night)
HIROSHIMA - May 15-16 - FAV HOTEL Hiroshima heiwa odori - Amazing! apartment style, great location, breakfast included. 2 x Queen beds in the room, washing machine and dryer. Would 100% stay here again if in Hiroshima. (approx $530 AUD 2 x nights)
KANAZAWA - May 17-18 - Tsukuyomi Chuodori . A Japanese style vacation rental house. location was ok, a short bus ride to the main area, or you could walk. very quiet residential area, actually had the best sleep here out of entire trip, although it was bright at 5:00am as there is only shoji screens for window coverings. very steep staircase to the top floor, probably not suitable for very young kids or older people. (approx $330 AUD 2 x nights)
TAKAYAMA - May 19-20 - FAV LUX Hida Takayama - great location. amazing apartment style 2 x queen beds + 2 x single bunk beds on top. Would 100% stay here again (approx $560 AUD 2 x nights)
TOKYO - May 21 - 25 - Mimaru Asakusa Station - location is 10/10!! literally next to the subway line, food, shopping on the door step, sensoji temple like 200mtrs away. Apartment style 1 x queen bed and 2 x single bunks. This may also be an unpopular opinion but you don't need to be near the Yamanote line in Tokyo. it was so easy to transfer to anywhere you want to go in Tokyo, the stations and different subway lines are so well signed and colour coded. I have stayed in Shinjuku and Tokyo station area before, and I would definitely stay in Asakusa again over those areas. (approx $1650 AUD 4 x nights)
OSAKA - May 26-30 - Randor suites Namba - Location was great! right next to a subway line, literally 3 doors down. Or a 950mtr walk to shinsaibashi. Was a whole apartment, huge for Japan. We shared this with my Sister in-law and her 2 boys (aged 10 and 12) who joined us in Tokyo for the last half of the trip. (approx $1450 AUD 4 x nights (our share about $800 AUD for 4 x nights)
BUDGET
We didn’t really set a specific budget as we had been saving for a while. All up in total, with absolutely everything ...flights, tickets, trains, food, accomm, shopping. It cost approx $16,000 AUD for a family of 4 people (1,600,000Yen). "Santa" got the kids new wallets and 10,000 yen each for xmas, so it was nice for them to work out what they wanted to spend their own money on.

DAY 1 - OSAKA - tues 14th May
12,221 steps
Flight from Melbourne - Osaka arrived 7pm
Through customs, baggage, JR tickets, got a 8:46pm (with 2 mins to spare) JR Haruka to Umeda (covered by the rail pass but you need a reserved ticket, which i got from the JR office when picking up the passes).

DAY 2 HIROSHIMA - wed 15th May
18,787 steps
I had booked a 1220 shinkansen from osaka to hiroshima. Which meant we had time for a restful slow morning ( only 1 hour time difference from Melbourne, so no issues with jet lag). We went to the Daimaru umeda and the pokemon centre, nintendo and some other shops, grabbed a bento box and on the shinkansen. We took our bags with us to the shops as we didn't want to trek back to the hotel.
An easy tram transfer and 600mtr walk to the hotel. We had a refresh at the hotel and then walked to the peace Museum. Entry is free for kids and 200Y for adults, a must if in Hiroshima! it was busy in some parts as we were there around 4pm but have never been somewhere with so many people and so much silence. Followed by a walk around the peace park and atomic bomb dome. You don’t need to be into war history to enjoy Hiroshima. The whole area has the most amazing peaceful vibe. If I lived in Japan, Hiroshima is where it would be! Dinner at Okonomi-mura. Delicious hiroshima style okonomiyaki. get there early, most places were sold out by 7pm.
DAY 3 MIYAJIMA DAY TRIP - thurs 16th May
23,589 steps
Opted to catch the tram to Miyajima ferry station, which was longer, but cheaper and meant we didn't need to transfer at the station, and also so we could see a bit more of the area out the window. you dont need to book the ferry in advance just get a ticket at the dock ( ours was covered by the JR area pass, still need to pay a 100Y tax for adults) ferry ride is about 10mins. We just walked through the streets poking in shops, eating some street food. The whole area is really beautiful and was busy but not over crowded. we wanted to ride the ropeway up to Mt Misen but when we got the the ropeway station it was closed due to strong winds. I was keen to go up so my hubby took the kids back into town and i did the 2.5km walk up the mountain to the look out. Do not attempt this unless you have a relative level of physical fitness, what starts as a nice meandering path following the river and waterfalls, quickly turns into 2km of stone steps up the mountain. it took me a bit over an hour to walk up and the view at the top is incredible. the trip down was much quicker, just be careful if you have bad knees. we left about 4:30 as we promised the kids we'd go to the pokemon centre. Went back to the hotel and got some uber eats for dinner, delicious ramen and gyoza
* Mine and my hubby's favourite day of the trip*
* Felt like we needed ½ to 1 extra day in the Hiroshima *
DAY 4 - TRAVEL TO KANAZAWA VIA HIMEJI - fri 17th May
12,993 steps
checked out of the hotel and took our luggage to 7-11 to transfer to our hotel in takayama 3 days later so that we could do our himeji and shirakawago stops on the way. we managed to stuff everything into 1 hiking pack and cost $25AUD to send. we kept 2 days of clothes with us in our backpacks. booked a shinkansen to himeji at the station immediately prior to travelling (covered by the pass). Walked around himeji castle, its beautiful. we didn't go inside as we were a bit pushed for time as we needed to check into our house by 7pm in kanazawa. but its worth the stop if its on your way. Our JR passes covered the trip to Tsuruga where we transferred to the shinkansen to kanazawa. We booked this on the spot and it was not busy. got to our house at 6:15pm, got some dinner recommendations from the house host and ordered through uber eats. hubby and i had curry kastu (kanazawa specialty) and got the kids some chicken and chips from a different place both delicious.

DAY 5 - KANAZAWA - sat 18th May
20,719 steps
We had lots of plans for the day, but our daughter was sick (vomiting) (she had a chest infection from when we left home) so we had aborted our mission and went back to the house, kids watched a movie on the ipads with hubby, and i went for a walk to the supermarket. I had fun browsing all the food for 1.5 hours. After lunch we went to Kenrokuen. The kids hated it, complained it was too hot and asked if we were ready to leave the whole time. it is a lovely large garden that is so well kept. However, we felt it lacked any real feeling (if that makes any sense). We had some obligatory gold leaf ice-cream at $10AUD each (Nothing to write home about, but of course its a good photo op). We skipped the market and the old district as our daughter was still feeling sick and hot, and opted for some shopping at kanazawa station. Of course pokemon centre. We enjoyed wandering the shops here for a few hours, got some happy pancakes, and dumplings on the top floor for dinner.
* side note, buses in kanazawa only take cash ( No IC cards, except the loop bus takes IC)
DAY 6 TRAVEL TO TAKAYAMA - Sun 19th May
15,910 steps
We got up early to get the first bus to Shirakawago around 8:00am. Although we didn't realise you need to reserve seats for this bus. I went to the counter and the first available bus was not until 1pm as the others were booked out. Also all the buses from Shirakawago to Takayama were booked out for the day. So we had to change plans and we jumped on a train to Toyama and then the limited express to Takayama. it was a 4min change over so we raced to the other platform and jumped in a non-reseved car. it was Packed, my son had to sit on my lap. The train ride is about 1.5 hours and absolutely stunning scenery. we arrived in Takayama, thinking we could tap our IC cards, but NO! No IC cards in takayama. luckily we paid the fare at the ticket window. however, we could only pay the Toyama to Takayama fare as they are different train line companies. Our IC cards, still said "In transit" so we had to fix that up when we went back to Toyama and pay the fare that we missed from not tapping off in Toyama. We learnt that it was super busy with tourists in Takayama so we booked our express train back to Toyama and the shinkansen to tokyo then at the station for the Tuesday. Checked into the hotel " our bags from hiroshima were there waiting" walked around the streets of takayama, grabbed some dinner at a soba place and headed back to the hotel for an early night.
DAY 7 TAKAYAMA - Mon 20th May
10,939 steps
Walked to the morning market, had some hida beef sushi (AMAZING), Midarashi dango (salty dango, YUM!) the most amazing criossants, poked in the shops around the old town area. kids fed the Koi and trout in the river. ate the most amazing cotton candy from a little shop. tasted sake from a brewery. Dinner at Suzuya (amazing, best meal of the trip, hida beef sukiyaki!!!) get there early! we were there at 5:10pm and already a big line in front of us. They won’t serve any one after 6:30pm. we booked a spa and sauna room for 7-9pm at the hotel so headed back to relax.
\* Saw lots of lovely souvenirs, engraved chopsticks, holders etc that in hindsight i should have bought in Takayama...but i thought i'll wait until Tokyo because it will be cheaper there... but I just didn't find many nice souvenir shops in Tokyo or Osaka, or we would have had to go out of the way to go there.
DAY 8 TRAVEL TO TOKYO - Tues 21st May
11,209 steps
Took the 11:07 limited express back to Toyama and the shinkansen to Ueno. We arrived at the hotel in Asakusa around 4pm. Dropped off bags at the hotel and headed to Sensoji, the area around the markets and temple was packed. We met up with my hubby’s sister and her 2 kids (they had the room next to us at the hotel) we walked down the street and found a teppanyaki okonomiyaki restaurant that could seat 7 people. The food was yummy, although they mustn’t have trusted us with the kids to cook our own food as they cooked it all for us downstairs and bought it up already cooked. We went to the sky tree for yet another pokemon store.

DAY 9 TOKYO – EAST SIDE – wed 22nd May
21,732 steps
Exploring and shopping Shibuya, Harajuku and Shinjuku. We went through Shibuya scramble, wandered the streets and shops of Shibuya and Harajuku, looking at shoes, cosmetics, gacha, anime. We had dinner at TGI Fridays in Harajuku, mainly because we could fit all 7 of us together and there was something on the menu that everyone would eat, the food is as you would expect (we found it difficult to find places suitable for everyone as my SIL is vegetarian, her son is super fussy (has autism, will not eat new foods), and our son is fussy too). We then jumped on the train and headed to Tokyo metropolitan government building in shinjuku, its great for the free observation deck and light show. The light show runs for 15mins every half hour from 7pm.

DAY 10 TOKYO – DISNEY SEA – Thurs 23rd May
31, 464 steps
One of the only days we set an alarm for the whole trip. Caught a train from Asakusa at 7:15am and arrived about 8:10, grabbed a coffee from starbucks there and headed in. The line was already massive. We got through the gates around 9:20. This is everything we did
Journey – first ride of the day went straight there 45min wait 9/10
Indiana Jones – 40th anniversary pass 9/10
Tower of terror – DPA – 8.5/10
Raging spirits – single rider line, 20 min wait 6/10
Soaring – DPA, 10/10 amazing, we don’t have anything like this in Australia so we were all blown away, even the kids
20,000 leagues under the sea – 40th anniversary pass 6/10
Toy story – DPA – 7/10
Jasmine’s flying carpet 5 min wait 4/10
Jumpin jelly fish 20 min wait, just the kids went on, they said it was boring
Flounder coaster – 10 min wait, surprisingly good for a little kid coaster, took my daughter on it again at the end of the day while the others went on Indiana again as she wouldn’t do any of the bigger rides
Believe sea of dreams - really lovely show, brought some of the Disney magic that is missing from the park.
Fireworks were cancelled due to wind. Overall we had the most amazing day!!! We got to do everything we wanted (with some careful pre-planning), the weather was perfect. The park is huge! We still didn’t see everything, with fantasy springs opening you definitely need 2 days to see everything. The park itself is so well done, every nook and cranny has amazing theming, but it does miss some of that “disney magic”. However, I think with the fantasy springs addition, the park will really have it all. The food is great…albeit very long lines. We ordered dinner through the Disney app and picked it up at a designated time which was a life saver.

DAY 11 – TOKYO – Fri 24th May
18,504 steps
We had a 10:30 timeslot booked for team-lab planets (knowing we didn’t want to have a too early start to the day following Disney) Team labs was lovely, hard to be blown away following the day at Disney but it was still a nice experience. It is certainly a photo opportunity rather than a place to actually learn about and appreciate the art. Either way everyone did enjoy it, and its much more affordable than the digital art galleries we have in Aus. We stopped at Ginza on the way back to go to a few shops and grabbed some lunch from the Matsuya department store food hall. The group split up here and hubby went to Akihabara with our nephew to look at anime stuff. I took our son shoe shopping in Ginza and then headed back to the hotel to do some washing. Took a nice walk along Sumida river and went to an early dinner at Ichiran ramen. It was yum, but not the best ramen of the trip. When the kids were in bed I headed to Don Quijote Asakusa alone to grab some things I wanted to try. It was so busy even at 11pm at night, don’t attempt with kids! the line for tax free registers took over 30mins to pay. I walked back through sensoji around 12:45am and it was so peaceful with no one else around.

DAY 12 TOKYO – TRAVEL TO OSAKA – Sat 25th May
16,914 steps
Last minute shopping in Tokyo. We split up, hubby took all the kids to some toy stores, and my SIL and I went shopping in Ginza. Originally I thought that Ginza was only high-end stores but found it to be the best place for shopping as they had all the major stores there, Uniqlo, Nike, Loft etc. 5:47 pm Shinkansen to Osaka. Arrived around 8:30pm to Osaka hotel.
\* an extra day in tokyo would have been nice*
DAY 13 - NARA DAY TRIP – Sun 26th May
21,335 steps
We went for a walk in Nara park, Todaji temple and walked through the streets of Nara. We went to Nara 10 years ago and loved it, but this time just didn’t feel the same. It was so busy, smelly (deer poo), and just felt nothing like we remembered. That was a bit of a disappointment for me and hubby, the kids still seemed to enjoy it as they liked patting and feeding the deer, and looking in the souvenir shops. Dotonbori for dinner

DAY 14 – OSAKA – Mon 27th May
21, 817 steps
Went to Kuramon market in the morning. I loved walking through here (and i don't eat seafood!!) there is so much amazing food here. definitely go with an empty stomach! Got some nice chopsticks. Explored Shinsaibashi, Dotonbori, Umeda, Pokemon store, shopping. Ate some street food. Tried to get an early night before USJ.

DAY 15 – UNIVERSAL STUDIOS – Tues 28th may
24,352 steps
Set the alarm early and arrived at USJ about 8:15am. We were through the gates by 8:30am. The weather forecast was rain all day….and boy did it RAIN ALL day. 110mm of rain it was horrendous! Hot tip, if it is expected to rain then definitely bring an umbrella for each person and a poncho! So much cheaper to buy in Osaka than the 1800Y they charge per person for a poncho at the park when you have no other options. They have really cool merch tho, way better than Disney.
We pre-purchased Express -pass 4 (variety fun) for our kids (they were too small for some of the coasters, or didn’t want to ride). The rest of us had express pass 7.
We had 10:20am timed entry for Harry potter and 5:40pm timed entry for Super Nintendo (although you didn’t need a timed entry on the day). When we got in hubby and my nephew raced over to Demon slayer (both big anime fans) and the rest of us went to Minions. We spent a lot of time in souvenir shops and seeing shows that were out of the rain. Flying dinosaur, Hollywood dream, & flight of hippogriff were all closed until 6:30pm when it finally stopped raining.
The rides we did
Minion Mayhem – waited 5 mins at the start of day, 6/10 due to motion sickness factor. My son would say 10/10 it was his fav ride. Went on again later in the day with our express passes
Freeze ray sliders – kids said 6/10, I didn’t ride. Got straight on.
Forbidden Journey – Used our express passes and got straight on, pretty cool ride 8/10. Hubby hated it due to motion sickness and vomited as soon as he got off. Kids loved it. I took the kids on again at 7:30pm and walked straight on.
Flight of the hippogriff – managed to use our express passes when this opened about 7pm. 6/10, its fun but really short, the best part is the view of the castle.
Flying dinosaur – express passes, waited 5 mins. 9.5/10. Amazing coaster.
Demon slayer - hubby said 9.5/10. Said it was pure fun the whole time. Coaster + VR. No motion sickness.
Mario Kart – Express passes. Waited max 10mins. 8/10
Yoshi – Kids used our express passes as it wasn’t included in theirs but we decided to go in the normal line and got on only a few cars behind them. A nice view of SNW but pretty boring otherwise 4/10
JAWS – 6/10. My daughters fav ride. She went on twice, 5 min wait all day.
SING – live show. Fun singing along to the songs.
MyHero 4D – in Japanese. Was still fun, and dry.
Had dinner at Hard Rock outside after we left.
*adults preferred Disney and the kids preferred universal (even in the torrential rain)*
*our son's favourite day (7yr old)
DAY 16 – OSAKA -Home – Wed 29th May
17,070 steps
Took our time in the morning packing and left luggage at the hotel. We stopped by shinsaibashi to grab a few things we wanted to buy, grabbed some lunch and then went to the Osaka aquarium. The aquarium is beautiful and the whole area near there is really nice too, they have a giant ferris wheel and legoland which we didn’t go to. Would have been nice to have a few more hours to explore the area. We headed back to the hotel at 4:30 to grab our luggage and got the Nankai airport express train to the airport. This was pretty straight forward and we managed to get a seat after a couple of stops. Flight home at 9:25pm
* Our daughters favourite day (10yr old) (besides the flight)
If you got this far, thanks for taking the time to read. I hope you enjoy your trip
