Stuart had crossed the Potomac at Rowser's Ford and headed east for reasons Civil War buffs love to argue about. I was curious as to what transpired there when he arrived and was surprised at what the town had to say. Apparently he was welcomed. But what's more... especially by the ladies. The Peerless Rockville is their historical society. According to their website: "The Confederates took so long to capture a Union wagon train and to be charmed by local girls that they arrived late to the Battle of Gettysburg." I'm working on an itinerary for a long roadtrip from northeast WY to MD (a cross-3/4th country trip) in mid-June. Currently, I'm looking to go through the states in this order: WY > SD > MN > WI >IL > IN > OH > PA/WV > VA/MD. I'm thinking about getting the National Park pass so that I can go to many of the attractions along this trip. Other interests include breweries and good eats!
Below is a list of places I've found either through Google Maps or on this subreddit. I'd appreciate any advice for sights to see (or not see) through any of the states! Of course, I won't be able to hit all of these (I'm thinking maybe 1-2 weeks on the road?) but I like having a prepared list just in case! Lakeforest Mall was a tourist trap back in its heyday. I’m looking to feature the now-closed mall on my site. I have photos of each store front from inside the mall in its final days. I was wondering if anyone here has any maps/guides to the mall from the late 80’s or early 90’s and would be willing to share with me. I really want to have as much detail for each store front as possible when I publish everything to the web. Thank you in advance. I was born in 1999, so I am nearly 15 years younger than Lilly, and I also was born and raised in the States, specifically in Westchester County, New York as well as in and around the NYC Metro Area.
So, I was only 7 years old when Alright, Still came out, and It’s Not Me It’s You came out when I was 9. Sheezus came out when I was 15, and when No Shame came out I was 19. She hasn’t released any other albums since then, though I believe she said that she still is writing songs, so there’s hope!
Thing was, Lilly I don’t think was as big of an artist when she first hit the scene here in the States, so I don’t think I paid as much attention to her as I could have, despite me being a big music fan for as long as I can remember.
So, the first time she came near me was when she did a concert at the Hiro Ballroom at the Maritime Hotel in NYC on October 10th, 2006, with Mark Ronson as her supporting act, and it was probably during her touring period for Alright, Still. I was only 7 years old at the time of that concert, so I was too young to go, plus it was during a school night anyway. Then the next time she played near me was when she did a concert at Webster Hall in NYC on February 10th, 2007, again probably during the same tour. I was 7 years old at the time of that concert, so again, too young to go, though it wasn’t during a school night. Then the next time she played near me was when she did a concert at the Irving Plaza in NYC on April 11th, 2007, again touring Alright, Still. At the time of that concert, I was 8 years old, so again, still too young to go, and it was yet again during a school night. She then came back to do a concert at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC on May 30th, 2007 (again touring Alright Still), but again, I was just 8 years old at the time of that show, so again I was too young to go and it was again during a school night. She then returned to the Roseland Ballroom in NYC on June 12th, 2007, and gave a concert there during the Alright, Still tour. So again I was 8 years old at the time of that show, so I was again too young to go, and I believe it was during a school night. She then returned to NYC and gave a concert at the Warsaw in Brooklyn on June 17th, 2007 (again touring for Alright Still), supported by Aaron LaCrate and Kevin Michael. At the time of that show, I was (surprise, surprise!) 8 years old, so again I was too young to go, though it was not during a school night. She then didn’t come back to NYC for 2 years, and then after 2 years, she gave a concert at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC on February 10th, 2009, during her It’s Not Me It’s You tour, and she was supported by Matt and Kim and Trouble Andrew. She then returned and did two shows during the Bangerz tour at Terminal 5 in NYC on September 23rd-24th, 2014, where she was supported by Lolawolf. At the time of these shows, I was 15 years old, so I was finally old enough to go, but three of those dates fell on a school night, another fell on a family member’s birthday party and the Nassau one was a LONG drive away and I was away at sleepaway camp in the Catskills. Then, she didn’t play in the US for 4 more years, and during that time, I graduated from high school & went to college/uni at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland, from late August 2017 to late May 2022. The next time she came to the states and played a show near my hometown and near my college was during the No Shame tour when she did a show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn on April 23rd, 2018, and then during that same tour she did a show at Terminal 5 in NYC on October 20th, 2018, then she did come near me the next day when she did a show at the Fillmore Silver Spring in Silver Spring, Maryland on October 21st, 2018. At the time of those shows, I was 19 years old, so again I was old enough to go, but I was broke and two of those dates were a long drive away from me (and I didn’t drive either) and I had a lot of homework to do, and one of those dates fell on a day when I had classes, so I couldn’t go. Then the next time to see her happened when she did two dates on June 2nd and 3rd, 2019 at Governor’s Ball in Randall’s Island, where she followed The Strokes, Nas, Charli XCX and SZA. At the time of these shows, I was 20 years old and I had come back home for summer vacation, so I could have gone, but there were family events happening at the same time, so I couldn’t go. She has not played another show near me since then in the past 4 years.

I don’t need to waste my cash on fancy “therapists” or “court-appointed analysts.” Instead, I just suit up and get ready for battle. That’s how I celebrate the fourth Friday of every November.
This year, I didn’t even go to sleep after Thanksgiving. I was so jazzed up from the massive portion of cranberry sauce that I couldn’t stop pacing. At around 2:30am, I decided it was time to start getting ready. I wrapped my body in newspapers and Black Friday ads until I had a good enough base to know I’d be okay if anybody had a shiv. Then I started gathering my weapons. Instead of brass knuckles (which I always lose), I found these really sharp plastic spider rings that were leftover from Halloween. For poking and tripping, I grabbed a cane from one of the geezers at the soup kitchen. [SIDE NOTE: People underestimate the value of old man weapons. I’m allowed to walk around with a cane anywhere I damn well please and that cane comes in handy, let me tell you. It’s just one of those social conventions that works in favor of the elderly – same goes for early bird senior specials at restaurants.]
So after I got myself ready, I headed over to the mall. That place usually gets rocking at around five in the morning, so I made sure to be there by four to snag a good place in line. I find the toy stores to be the center of the mayhem most years, so I headed there first. All these parents were just foaming at the mouth to get their hands on the latest Cabbage Patch Elmo Pokey-Man Nintendos and I couldn’t wait to get in their way. As soon as the doors opened, I started a stampede. I’ve got old standbys that I yell out to really heat things up. “They’ve only got three left!” “Huge sale in Aisle Five!” “That jerk is taking all of them!” Nobody has any idea what I’m referring to, but they get all worked up nonetheless. Almost right away, people started shoving and pushing and where was I? Right in the middle of all the action.
I started out by poking people with my cane and scratching them with my rings and pretty soon, I didn’t care so much about sales tax or cold weather or paternity suits – all the things that stick in my craw, really. Nobody got seriously injured and all my bottled up feelings just disappeared, so it was a win-win for everyone, in my opinion.
Once I finished at the toy store, I moved on to the electronics stores where I started over from scratch and instigated a whole new riot. It felt great. I’ll tell you what – this is shaping up to be one of the best holiday/therapy seasons of all time.

As some University of Maryland community members attended Israel Fest Tuesday, other students, faculty and staff gathered in front of McKeldin Library to protest the annual event.
Israel Fest — a five-hour event hosted by this university’s Jewish Student Union near the administration building — saw hundreds of attendees throughout the day. More than a dozen Jewish organizations sponsored the event, which included food and activities to celebrate Israeli culture. On the other side of the mall, hundreds of students chanted in support of Palestine, denounced Israel Fest and called for divestment throughout the day.
University event staff checked IDs, searched bags and scanned attendees with metal detectors at gated entrances for each event — a difference from previous years. University of Maryland Police oversaw both events.

My Grandma was the best woman I have ever known. She was tough and she was kind and she understood me in ways no one else ever did. She raised my mom and my uncle mostly on her own, found the strength to forgive my grandfather and give him a second chance again, and took care of her mother when she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.
Growing up, I spent more time with my grandma than I did with my parents. They had marital issues and, as the oldest, they both used me as their personal therapists, giving me details that I was too young to understand and that I was too young to be given. Every weekend, my grandma would come and get me and we’d spend the weekend together. We would go to the movies, we would go to the mall, the park, out to dinner with her friends, to the pool, to the book store. If we could do it together, we did it. She was my best friend and I saw her as a mother figure to me.
She got sick on March 13th with a UTI. She didn’t want to go to the hospital and tried to tough it out until that Friday. She’d asked me to bring her some water, so I grabbed her that, a bottle of cranberry juice, and some AZO pills. I told her if she wasn’t better the next morning, we were going to the hospital, whether she wanted to or not. She did go, that night, at the insistence of one of her friends. Her kidneys shut down, what urine she could get out was dark red, and her body was so swollen. She eventually started getting better, until she was moved to a rehab center. While there for only four days, she fell out of bed twice and developed multiple bed sores. She was readmitted to the hospital and she seemed good. She was tired but she was excited to move to a rehab center closer to my mom. And then, in the middle of a sentence, she had a cardiac episode and she died on April 12th. It’s weird to say that because my grandmother seemed larger than life. My grandpa was with her so at least she wasn’t alone.
I don’t really know what to do now. I was originally throwing myself into helping plan things for her viewing. Then once that was planned, I threw myself into running errands for my mom and grandpa. Then I threw myself into cleaning her house out and now that’s done. I don’t really know what to do now. I feel more alone than I ever have. I haven’t cried since the day after she died. I don’t know if that means I didn’t love her as much as I thought I did. I sleep with a teddy bear she gave me when I was little every night. I miss her so much and I don’t know what I’m supposed to do from here.

‘bulge’ in sidewall of wheel close to rim after running over a curb
A ‘friend’ of mine with umm .. questionable flaws/issues drove my mom’s car ‘new’ used car against my better judgment but I ONLY allowed it bc it was literally across the street— mall to hotel. What could go wrong right? So she HITS AN OBVIOUS CURB.. it sounded horrendous but the only physical evidence is a bulge in the tire sidewall near the rim.. I know it will have to be replaced.. but my current dilemma is that I have a 2 hour interstate drive home right now as I’m typing this and I’m wondering if it’s gonna hold out for me.
**Factors that may be important: fairly smooth road for most of the trip but mountainous terrain— Maryland to West Virginia; it’s raining; speed limit is 70 until off interstate (last 25/30 min of trip is rural wv bullshit w potholes galore but I know where they are and will avoid them) ..
