2024.05.08 11:05 That_Distance_6463 Genuinely don't understand how he still has a playerbase

I don't want this to be yet another long rant but I'm just genuinely curious about some stuff and I'd like to hear a different view from some of you.
Not only is this game an unfinished mess but it's incredibly boring and nowhere near what a stealth assassination game should look like. Just wondering for those who are playing, what drags you in? What do you find interesting about it?
I think it's pretty obvious that this whole game is just groomdere dev's outlet for channeling his anger due to how lonely he is. Seriously, I cannot expect a mentally healthy adult to try and make a game like this. Even if they did, I'm sure that someone would actually get to it and finish it one day. Alex is not someone who should be considered a competent game developer. He's just an average guy with bare minimum programming skills who just so happened to explode in popularity in 2015 because some famous youtubers played the game. His ego is the main thing prolonging the suffering of this project and at this point, I'm genuinely starting to think he's just delaying development because it's his only source of income. Man is almost incapable to live.
So yeah, what drags you in? Just to be clear I have nothing against people who enjoy it, just wondering.

2024.05.08 09:24 SnooMuffins8524 Drawing instructor recommendations

Hello everyone,
I'm in search of a drawing instructor who can teach intermediate-level classes for adults. I'd like someone who can guide me for various mediums, and I'm also open to attending mixed-age sessions that include kids. Ideally, I'd like classes located in the Satellite area.
Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance!

2024.05.08 07:50 janglingargot Lady Bertram, I stg...

Working on an embroidery project has got me thinking about Lady Bertram and her embroidery, and now I'm feeling extremely salty all over again about the number of times in Mansfield Park that someone tries to invite Fanny out to do something fun, and Lady Bertram effectively goes, "But you CAN'T take Fanny along for karaoke night, who's going to help me work the Roku while you're all gone??"
Ma'am, please! You are an adult! Let this literal teenager go and enjoy herself!! 😞 And poor Fanny is so resigned to doing the Regency equivalent of trying to read a library book while Lady Bertram binges the Hallmark channel and constantly asks her to fetch snacks and help her with the remote. It has so many buttons, Fanny!!
(Whatever else folks say about Edmund in here, at least he does step in to handle Roku duty for Fanny when he notices this is happening, and tells his sisters that it's seriously not a big deal when they start going on about how much Fanny owes him for it.)

2024.05.08 07:17 yoiikes does anyone remember a hidden camera gameshow with children in the early 2000s?

i vaguely remember there being some adults visiting my kindergarten, and there was a camera behind a curtain to hide it. they did some sort of prank or test on me and my classmates - something like seeing our reaction when the bitter herbal drink we were told to drink was actually coke. this must have been either 2005 or 2006. wondering if anyone knows about this show, or if was a segment on a bigger show or anything. i don’t know if it was a channel 8 show or what, all i remember is that it’s probably a chinese show. i don’t know if this is a genuine memory or my mum has successfully managed to incept a false memory by telling me this happened. if anyone was older at that time and remember watching please let me know!

2024.05.08 04:59 Weaver-of-Dreams [ALL] The Tragic Timeline Misunderstanding

First off, may we all agree to be civil in our discussion here xD
I have been a fan of the Legend of Zelda since the Oracle Games came out, and the first game I played was Ocarina of Time. I fell in love with it as I watched my older brother play. He has been the one paving my Zelda journey ever since, always requesting the consoles and games for his birthday and Christmas- credit where credit is due.
But I became enamored with the world of Hyrule, and the realms and lands beyond it. At this point in my life, I have played every single-player that Zelda has to offer, and I have found my personal favorites amongst them and spent many hours pouring over dialogue, forums, and theory videos pondering the many mystical questions that it has to offer.
Of course, this curiosity brought me into contact with the growing rumblings of the "separate timelines" theory, which stemmed from, or perhaps for a few people, were supported by, Miyamoto's comments regarding a "secret timeline" that guided the story for each of Nintendo's installments. There were years of bickering and arguing, which game happened when, and how far apart they really were. Then we got it. The answer arrived in the first edition of the Hyrule Historia, which contained a detailed timeline that set each of the series' installments at some point along a timeline that starts as one, and divides into three by the end of Ocarina of Time.
Those still reading are likely already well aware of this fact, all that I was doing up until now was establishing ethos.
There is a terrible, horrible misconception which has infected the Zelda forums, theory videos, and even the wiki pages. And, to be clear, I am working with the very first edition's timeline, which I have accepted into my own headcanon, and the majority of the fandom has adopted as the "official" Zelda timeline (Crucially: The Oracle Games are placed in the Downfall Timeline).
The misconception is this: That the Downfall Timeline is created when Ganondorf kills Link at the end of Ocarina of Time. If we must consider the Hyrule Historia canon, and whether it is or not is still hotly debated due to the fact that Nintendo has never officially recognized it as the source of all Zelda truth, then this claim still lacks confirmation. The Historia repeats several times in the portion following the Timeline page that Link is "defeated by Ganondorf". It alludes to the final battle a few times, but thanks to this technicality, I still have room to argue my case.
All my years of research and playing video games have led me to this moment.
My conclusion:
Link was born into the Downfall Timeline.
You might disagree, but why the heck would Link dying, as pivotal a moment as the Ocarina of Time final battle is, create a whole new timeline? With this logic, any moment that Link dies throughout the entire game, every death that you experienced as the player, actually contibuted a whole separate reality of multiverses like the new Spiderman movies, where one little inconsequential decision can lead to a whole network of complex realities.
And while I believe that it is possible that the Zelda series can have a multiverse existing beyond the games we see, I am inclined to believe that everything that we witness in them is the Goddesses' chosen timelines.
The Downfall belongs to Din, who longs to see her channel of power in Ganon swell and overwhelm the puny world she and her sisters created.
The Child Timeline belongs to Farore, who seeks to preserve the Kingdom of Hyrule as it has always naturally been through her relationship with Link.
The Adult Timeline belongs to Nayru, who has seen the error of the old Kingdom's ways and wanted to forge a new future for the mortal part to her divinity, Zelda. (I do believe that Hylia is another form of Nayru, or a closely linked product of her influence.)
Lastly, and perhaps the most concrete evidence that the Downfall did not result from Link's death at Ganon's Tower is that Link would have had to defeat Twinrova to get there. Ganondorf's surrogate witch mothers would have had to die at Link's hands in order for him to obtain the Medallion of Spirit and awaken Nabooru as the Sage of Spirit. Koume and Kotake both make an appearance in the Oracle Games, which take place in the Downfall Timeline between A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening.
I believe that the truth is darker.
Link was born to the Downfall Timeline. He obtains the Spiritual Stones, the Lens of Truth, and the Silver Gauntlets, and he also opens the Sacred Realm all in this timeline. But he did not traverse any of the Temples, much less awaken any sages. They remain trapped, just as they are in A Link to the Past. Ganondorf enters the Sacred Realm -This is where Link is defeated. He is defeated by Ganondorf's cunning, manipulation, and swift timing. Link opens the Sacred Realm like a doofus and Ganondorf suavamente's right in- and places his hand on the Triforce, splitting it into three just like how this has happened in the Adult Timeline. However, in his birth timeline, Link is gone- in the newly-created Adult Timeline. Now Ganondorf is free to locate the Triforce of Courage and stomp Zelda for the Triforce of Wisdom. Left without a choice, the Kingdom of Hyrule descends into the all-out Imprisoning War, at the end of which the new sages seal the fully-realized Ganon in the Sacred Realm, which he transforms into the Dark World in his image. This leads to the events of A Link to the Past and so on and so forth.
Thoughts?
(I know I come off as snooty but I'm just being playful for the most part I promise)

2024.05.08 04:55 Ok_World_8819 Gen Alpha is cooked

Gen Alpha is cooked
As someone who is definitely Gen Z and doesn't know anyone who is Gen Alpha, I am very, very concerned for them.
TL;DR: Gen Alpha is watching or watched poor quality educational shows as kids, such as Ryan's World and Cocomelon. Additionally, the rise of AI could see devastating consequences for them as they enter their adolescence and young adulthood in the 2030s and 2040s.
Gen Alpha's start date is mostly considered to be 2010, to the general public at large (a few say 2013). I would actually consider Gen Alpha to start in 2015, but most people tend to say otherwise.
For the sake of "the popular opinion", I will use a 2010 start date as 99% of the population seems to use it (even if it makes no sense). Like, go on YouTube. Next to no one there considers 2010 to be Gen Z.
The cause of concern is mainly in what they're watching. Skibidi toilet is not the problem. It's the "educational" shows they watch that are the problem.
I could care less about "skibidi toilet"; we had stupid videos and the like as well when we were kids and they were on the same level. Even something like Blippi which is also widely hated outside of the age demographic, isn't really "dangerous" but just "annoying". We had our own "annoying" preschool shows. Barney, Wow Wow Wubbzy, Dora The Explorer, etc.
But Cocomelon and Ryan's World are not just "annoying". They are actively dangerous to kids' minds.
Cocomelon brainwashes kids that watch it (kids get glued into the TV while watching it and have temper tantrums if the parent cuts it off) and has constant jump cuts with a super fast pace. There is no story to Cocomelon, no likeable characters with personalities, not even a moment of silence or calmness.
Ryan's World does contain more of a story and there are characters with personalities, but it's filled with commercialism and advertisements, and none of those characters (Combo Panda, Alpha Lexa, Gus The Grummy Gator) are memorable at all. Oh, and Ryan's parents are exploiting their child for money and fame.
Instead of being given quality educational programming, Gen Alpha is being given a tablet and are sat in front of a screen watching Cocomelon or Ryan's World. And that doesn't even mention Elsagate, which is making a big comeback in the mid-2020s.
Cocomelon has no effort put into it whatsoever. There are studies showing that it warps the minds of the kids who watch it.
People on YouTube are just saying that "Gen Alpha is so cringe" or are making fun of them for watching skibidi toilet.
I don't have that feeling towards them. I feel genuinely terrible for Gen Alpha. It's their parents who are at fault. They are the ones who are giving their kids the iPads.
To be clear: Not every parent with a Gen Alpha child is bad.
While there are many very naive/irresponsible parents with Gen Alpha kids, that doesn't make every single parent bad. There are a few Gen Alpha kids growing up with great educational shows old and new. Puffin Rock and Bluey are two good modern-day examples.
But I find it pretty damn ironic that Gen Alpha is being exposed to Cocomelon so much considering how many iconic educational shows their parents were able to grow up with.
The parents of Gen Alpha are primarily (but not entirely) made up of Xennials, Millennials and Zillennials, who grew up watching (for the most part) much higher quality educational shows. Some Gen X and Gen Z parents too, but not as common.
All of those people got to grow up with some great educational shows as kids:
3-2-1 Contact and Square One TV for Xennials, The Magic School Bus and Bill Nye The Science Guy for Millennials, Dragon Tales and Between The Lions for Zillennials.
And shows that Millennials and Gen Z experienced as they were new (Arthur, Cyberchase, Bear In The Big Blue House, Blues Clues, and debatably, the aforementioned Dragon Tales and Between The Lions).
Dragon Tales (along with Bear In The Big Blue House) seems to be one of those shows that unites almost all Zillennials.
Even something such as Barney The Dinosaur has far more care and effort put into it than Cocomelon ever will. The only truly harmful educational show from back then was Caillou, and even then it was surrounded by tons of great educational shows for kids on the same channel (PBS Kids) so kids weren't solely watching Caillou. In fact, Arthur, Clifford, Cyberchase and Dragon Tales were all just as popular in the 2000s (more popular, arguably).
Many kids are watching Cocomelon and nothing else; if they do, most of the time the other shows they watch are completely inappropriate and/or are of very poor quality.
Of course, that doesn't mean there aren't any good shows kids today have. The Owl House and Bluey are two popular cartoons of the 2020s that Gen Alpha could've watched.
Unfortunately, kids are not the ones watching these; Bluey seems to be far more popular with adults than kids and the same is true with The Owl House.
And even shows that are still running, like Sesame Street and Cyberchase, aren't as popular with Gen Alpha as Cocomelon or Ryan's World.
You would think these parents would know better and raise their kids with the shows they grew up with, but many of them couldn't care less what their kids watch. They don't care about the quality of what their child is watching and just want to get their kid to shut up.
God knows what Gen Alpha is watching on YouTube Kids...
The worst thing about this is the fact that many Gen Alpha kids have unrestricted access to YouTube Kids, a site where someone could label a Final Destination death scene as "made for kids", and a 6 year old could watch it on YouTube Kids and be forever traumatized. It's easier than one would think! You can easily find 18+ material on the kids version of the site, and not just gore but also South Park and Futurama (which are not meant for kids at all).
And then there's the rise of AI.
Unlike previous generations, Gen Alpha will never know a world without AI, at least one where it wasn't a part of daily life. Even the younger members of Gen Z had their childhood largely free from the era of AI, growing up as kids in the late 2010s and early 2020s.
The oldest of Gen Alpha was no older than 12 years old when ChatGPT came out; there are many rumors that Disney's Wish was written at least partially by AI. By the time the oldest members of Gen Alpha become adults during the very late 2020s, AI will be more advanced than we could've ever imagined even today.
We've seen what AI can do, and it is very frightening. AI-generated images, music, sentences and scripts, and even AI-generated video. What will this be like by 2032, when the very oldest of Alpha turn 22 and start graduating from college?
Gen Alpha could be the first generation ever to lack any real social life at all, instead relying completely on AI for consuming pop culture (movies, games, books, music, etc).
In the year 2037, instead of having real human friends, a Gen Alpha 20 year old adult might have an AI-generated anime waifu girlfriend with an AI voice go with them to watch a movie written and made by AI.
That sounds crazy in 2024, but 13 years is a long time. Not even 5 years ago, AI-generated music, art and videos of higher quality would've been unthinkable to the general public at large. Now it is almost certainly going to happen.
I doubt any of our elected officials will do anything to try and stop this. It may already be too late to stop AI from taking over. And if it is, Gen Alpha really is cooked. And it'll be every other generation's fault.
I blame Gen Z for making fun of Gen Alpha instead of trying to combat the issues they're dealing with. We're not helping by mocking them for liking skibidi toilet videos, and gatekeeping the youngest members of Gen Z from our generation and our nostalgia. And the oldest members of Gen Z are already old enough to have kids, and i'm very concerned about that as well considering how X and Millennials are raising their Alpha kids.
I feel so, so bad for Gen Alpha. Please don't mock them for liking a stupid YouTube meme. Try and do whatever you can to help them. To save them from Cocomelon and Ryan's World and AI. Please raise your Gen Alpha kids right.

2024.05.08 04:49 Cyb0-K4T-77 "Straight-Acting" and "Sexuality's" Come do a science with me !!

Hi everyone so I made this post because I'm like kinda bored of the whole: Am I straight am I gay am I this and that blah blah blah mental gymnastic's stuff, and the whole finsexual , gynosexual, demisexual, polysexual, pansexual etc etc kinda talks.
Like literally a day here sometimes makes me feel like Alucard ... 🤨
So lets go put on our thinking hats and go do a science shall we.
Lets start with the whole straight guys thing.
Format wise I'm going to give you the source or sauce as I like to say, for your moms spaghetti, every time, and than post the relevant stuff so we can all go over that and maybe we will learn something today.

Why Do Some Gay Men Identify as "Straight-Acting" and How Is It Related to Well-Being?
Abstract <---this means that its the TLDR of the whole report, I'm not buying just to post here, I dont have a money tree growing in my back yard, sadly its just 2 oaks.
Recent literature has described the phenomenon of "straight-acting" gay men: gay men who identify with traditional heteronormative masculinity. The current study examined predictors of "straight-acting" identification in gay men and how identifying as straight-acting relates to well-being. A sample of Australian gay men (N = 966) provided self-report data on two potential predictors of straight-acting identity: self-perceived masculinity and internalized homophobia. A path analysis assessed how these variables related to straight-acting identification. While masculine self-presentation positively predicted well-being and internalized homophobia negatively predicted well-being, straight-acting identification, which positively correlated with both, did not independently predict either psychological distress or physical well-being. Analyses further suggested that internalized homophobia had particularly deleterious effects among gay men who were more feminine. Implications for clinical and public health interventions among gay men are discussed.

"Straight-acting gays": the relationship between masculine consciousness, anti-effeminacy, and negative gay identity
Abstract
Some gay men are preoccupied with traditional notions of masculinity and express negative feelings towards effeminate behavior in gay men. Various scholars have speculated that such attitudes by gay men reflect internalized negative feelings about being gay. Thus, we sought to assess the importance of masculinity among gay men, to compare their ideal versus perceived masculinity-femininity, to ask how gay men assess masculinity, and to test whether masculine consciousness and anti-effeminacy could predict negative feelings about being gay. Results from an online survey of 751 gay men in the United States (MAge=32.64 years, SD=11.94) showed that the majority rated masculinity for themselves and in a same-sex partner as important, and they ideally wished that their behavior was more masculine (Cohen's d=.42) and less feminine (d=.42) than they perceived it to be. Furthermore, one's behavior was more important than how one looks when assessing masculinity. A multiple regression analysis showed that the degree to which they were preoccupied with masculinity and expressed anti-effeminacy accounted for 30% of the variance in negative feelings about being gay. These finding further support the idea that masculinity is an important construct for gay men and that masculine consciousness and anti-effeminacy are related to negative feelings about being gay.

The careful balance of gender and sexuality: rural gay men, the heterosexual matrix, and "effeminophobia"
Abstract
Based on life narratives, this article explores rural gay men's subjectivity in France and the United States. After growing up in rural cultures, these gay men tend to adopt similar hetero-centered ideas about masculinity. We show that these "conventional" ideas impact their sense of self as they express feelings of "effeminophobia." They differentiate themselves from effeminate gay men and emphasize their similarities with straight men. These ideas are both coercive and disciplinary as they homogenize rural gay men's discourse and masculine identities.
And than somewhat related but not really but kinda still
https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/0146167209338072
"I'm not gay. . . . I'm a real man!": Heterosexual Men's Gender Self-Esteem and Sexual Prejudice
Five studies examined the hypothesis that heterosexual men, but not heterosexual women, endorse negative attitudes toward homosexuality (i.e., sexual prejudice) in order to maintain a positive gender-related identity that is unambiguously different from a homosexual identity. Studies 1 and 2 showed that men's (but not women's) gender self-esteem (but not personal self-esteem) was positively related to sexual prejudice: The more positive heterosexual men's gender self-esteem, the more negative their attitude toward homosexuality. Studies 3 and 4 showed that this link appears specifically among men motivated to maintain psychological distance from gay men. Study 5 experimentally manipulated the perceived biological differences between homosexual and heterosexual men. The previously observed link between men's gender self-esteem and sexual prejudice appeared in the control and no-differences conditions but disappeared in the differences condition. These findings are discussed in terms of men's attitudes as a defensive function against threat to masculinity.
Ok so now that we got a lil peek into the whole inner workings and also got a small peek into why some ppl internally hate the "geys" I think we can now extrapolate that most of those people are just having serious issues with accepting step one.
And step one is accepting that your not heterosexual.
Tun Tun Tuuuun
So step 2 will be like , Ok what kinda sexual am I than ?
AM I really the gay ?? really ??
Well maybe .. or maybe not exactly but kinda still, sort of, its all queer, dont worry you'l be fine.
Lets go over the basic's 1st.
Lets leave out trans people a litle bit at 1st and focus on just the sexes since we, as I am an enby my self , we tend to throw some Fuzzy_logic into the mix, but we will solve that later, we'll get to that at some point.
https://www.webmd.com/sex/what-is-heterosexual
Heterosexual people are sexually or romantically attracted to people of the opposite sex.
Heterosexual men are sexually or romantically attracted to women, and heterosexual women are sexually or romantically attracted to men.
The prefix “hetero” comes from the Greek word heteros, which means “the other (of two), another, different, second; other than usual.”
People often use the term “straight” in place of the word heterosexual.
You might also hear these related terms:
Heteronormative. This is a world view that promotes heterosexuality as the norm or preferred orientation over others.
Heteroromantic. This is when you’re romantically attracted to only the opposite sex.
Heterosexual ally. This is a heterosexual person who supports people with other sexual orientations.

What Is the Difference Between Heterosexual, Homosexual, and Other Sexualities?

While heterosexuality is the most common sexual identity, it’s just one of many possible sexual orientations. In addition to heterosexuality, which describes people who are sexually or romantically attracted to the opposite sex, you may hear these terms.
  • Homosexual, same-sex attraction
  • Bisexual, attraction to more than one sex <-- remember sex is not gender
  • Asexual, no sexual attraction to any sex *
  • Aromantic, no romantic attraction to any sex *
  • Polysexual, attraction to people of various genders <-- tun tun tuuun *
  • Heteroflexible, primary attraction to people of the opposite sex and occasional attraction to people of the same sex *
  • Homoflexible, primary attraction to people of the same sex and occasional attraction to people of the opposite sex
  • Some people also choose the labels ‘queer’ or ‘fluid’ as a way of expressing themselves by their own personal feelings.
These are just a few of the many terms used to describe various sexual identities. Despite the large number of individuals that identify as heterosexual, it’s important to respect any individual’s sexual orientation and the label they choose. For example, some people may mainly identify as heterosexual, but their sexual identity may change over time. Others may identify as heterosexual as it relates to sexual attraction, but they may also form romantic or emotional relationships with members of the same sex. (note, not sexual, bro love )
Myths and Misconceptions about the Heterosexual Label
Although heterosexuality is fairly common, there are some myths and misconceptions about this sexual orientation.
Transgender Individuals Aren’t Heterosexual ?
Many people don’t realize that people who identify as transgender can be heterosexual. The term “transgender” refers to a person’s gender identity, not their sexuality or orientation. In fact, transgender people can be heterosexual, homosexual, pansexual, queer, asexual, or any other sexual orientation, just like cisgender people — those whose gender identity corresponds with their birth sex.
Heterosexuality Isn’t Fluid ?
Heterosexual people sometimes identify with other sexualities over the course of their lifetimes. This is a common experience — many researchers believe sexuality is a spectrum and that orientation can change over time. so one can be hetero one day and gay 3 moths later when your like "wow did we just do that John ?, are we gay/bi now ? " and the answer is yes, yes you are.

What Is Sexual Orientation?
Sexual orientation is a term used to refer to a person's pattern of emotional, romantic, and sexual attraction to people of a particular gender (male or female). Sexuality is an important part of who we are as humans. Beyond the ability to reproduce, sexuality also defines how we see ourselves and how we physically relate to others.
So now that we covered just the basics ( yes this is going to be very long ) we are going to take a closer look at some of the more trans inclusionary sexuality labels and such.
Sexual orientation is usually divided into these categories:
  • Heterosexual: Attracted to people of the opposite gender
  • Bisexual: Attracted to genders the same as themselves or different than themselves".
  • Homosexual: Attracted to people of one's own gender
  • Pansexual: Attracted to people of any gender identity
  • Asexual: Not sexually attracted to other people
Sexual orientation involves a person's feelings and sense of identity; it’s not necessarily something that’s noticeable to others. People may or may not act on the attractions they feel.
What Determines Sexual Orientation?
Most scientists agree that sexual orientation (including homosexuality and bisexuality) is the result of a combination of environmental, emotional, hormonal, and biological factors. In other words, many things contribute to a person's sexual orientation, and the factors may be different for different people.
Homosexuality and bisexuality aren’t caused by the way children were reared by their parents, or by something that happened to them when they were young. Also, being homosexual or bisexual does not mean the person is mentally ill or abnormal in any way. They may face burdens caused by other people’s prejudices or misunderstandings.
How Do People Know Their Sexual Orientation?
Many people discover their sexual orientation as teens or young adults, and in many cases without any sexual experience. For example, someone may notice that their sexual thoughts and activities focus on people of the same gender or both genders. But it’s possible to have fantasies or to be curious about people of the same sex without being homosexual or bisexual. And they may not pursue those attractions.
Can Sexual Orientation Be Changed?
Experts agree that sexual orientation isn’t a choice and can’t be changed. Some people who are homosexual or bisexual may hide their sexual orientation to avoid prejudice from others or shame they may have been taught to feel about their sexuality.
Ok break time. go hydrate with some water or something..
Meanwhile I'm gonna set up the next bit thats going to be about the:

The Bi Umbrella

https://bi.org/en/101/bi-umbrella
https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/15299716.2017.1297145
An umbrella term is a word or phrase that covers a broad range of related things that belong to the same general category. Bisexuality is an umbrella term that covers a wide range of identities, terms, attractions, and behaviors that all fit the scientific definition of bisexuality.
Terms that fall under the bi umbrella include pansexual (attraction to all genders, with a political emphasis on trans and non-binary gender identities), polysexual and multisexual (attraction to multiple sexes), and omnisexual (attraction to all sexes). Some people prefer the term fluid meaning that their attractions are not fixed and include people of more than one sex over time. Others feel that their sexuality, while not limited by sex or gender, is best left unlabeled because it is not central to their sense of self. If these terms all seem extremely similar, that’s because they are! Still, these words have value in that they allow people to describe their sexuality in ways that feel more comfortable or precise. They allow people to express how they see and understand themselves and how they want to be seen by others.
It’s helpful to note that while anyone who experiences both homosexual (same sex) and heterosexual (opposite sex) attractions is bisexual according to the scientific definition, that does not mean that they will label themselves or even think of themselves (identify) as bi.

Gynesexual/gynosexual:
People: Individuals who experience sexual attraction toward women, females, and/or
femininity, regardless of whether they were assigned female at birth.
Pansexual people:
Individuals who are attracted to others regardless of their gender identity or biological sex.
https://queerdom.fandom.com/wiki/Finsexual
Finsexual people:
Finsexual is a term for someone who is exclusively attracted to those who are feminine in nature (hence the term FIN). This can be either in their gender and/or gender presentation. Someone who identifies as finsexual can experience attraction to any gender presenting femininely and/or any feminine-aligned genders. What counts as feminine in nature is up to the individual.
The term has been deemed very similar to the term gynesexual and is sometimes and in some cases considered synonymous, however, due to gynesexual having multiple definitions, finsexual is still a unique term.
https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/articles/22678-demisexuality
Demisexual:
Demisexuality is a sexual orientation. People who identify as demisexual only feel sexual attraction to someone after they’ve formed a strong emotional bond with them. Compared to the general population, most people who are demisexual rarely feel sexual attraction. Some have little to no interest in sexual activity.
Most people in the general population can feel sexual attraction regardless of whether they form an emotional bond with someone. They may feel sexually attracted to strangers or to new people they meet. But people who are demisexual don’t feel this initial sexual attraction.
Forming an emotional bond doesn’t guarantee sexual attraction will develop, but the bond is necessary for them to even consider sexual activity. If they do develop a sexual attraction, the desire for sexual activity is often less intense.
The length of time needed to create an emotional bond varies. Some people who are demisexual develop a close bond quickly, but others only develop a bond after several years of friendship with someone. The emotional bond doesn’t necessarily need to be a romantic feeling. The bond could just be a close friendship.
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/autosexuality.
Autosexuality
Autosexuality is a sexual orientation where people are more sexually attracted to themselves than others.
And as a finishing touch I shall provide one with a:

A Guide to 25 Different Types of Sexuality's

We covered a bunch of these already I'll just included them for completeness, and a bunch of these are in what we would call the "gray area" as in their pretty obscure and very much not very well known, or even fully accepted even.
https://www.choosingtherapy.com/types-of-sexuality/
Sexuality, or sexual orientation, refers to who someone is or is not attracted to. Most people are familiar with only the most common LGBTQ+ types, but numerous other less-known ones exist. Learning about these sexual orientations and romantic feelings can help you better understand the variety of ways people experience and identify their sexuality.
  1. Allosexual
Allosexual refers to those who experience sexual attraction to others. Allosexual individuals can be bisexual, pansexual, queer, gay, lesbian, heterosexual, or so forth. Some note allosexual is the opposite of asexual.4
  1. Allotroposexual
Allotroposexual is a relatively new term used to replace skoliosexual. It refers to individuals whose primary attraction is to transgender or non-binary individuals. The term does not refer to the fetish, sexualization, and objectification of trans people by cisgender individuals.
  1. Androsexual
Androsexual individuals are attracted to masculinity regardless of the person’s sex or gender. For some, this could best be described as being attracted to masculine expression, presentation, or characteristics.
  1. Asexual (Aces)
People who are asexual experience little or no sexual attraction to others or have limited to little desire for sexual contact. It’s important to remember not all asexual folks are repulsed or refuse sex. People who identify as asexual don’t always experience no desire for romance and may have many successful relationships regardless of sexual contact.
  1. Bicurious
Someone who is bicurious has historically been heterosexual, but is considering or curious about engaging in sexual activity with an individual who may have a sex or gender different than their partners in the past. The word “curious” should always be used instead of confused to help decrease the shame and stigma often associated with non-heterosexual activity.
  1. Bisexual
A bisexual individual experiences sexual attraction to both sexes and genders. Recent research shows that the bisexual+ or bi+ (an identity label that encompasses all non-monosexual identities) female population in the US is larger than that of lesbians, gay men, and bi+ men combined.5
  1. Ceterosexual
Ceterosexual is another term used to describe an individual who is attracted to transgender or nonbinary individuals. The term does not refer to the fetish, sexualization, and objectification of trans people by cisgender individuals.
  1. Demisexual
A person who is demisexual often feels sexual attraction after building an emotional bond or connection with someone. Those who are demisexual note they do not feel immediately attracted to individuals based on looks, smell, and other features.
  1. Fluid
Fluid individuals’ sexuality changes and is not fixed. Many folks can resonate with their sexuality being stable, but some feel their sexuality is ever-changing. Fluid individuals can also utilize other sexual orientation terms to describe themselves or may feel they do not resonate with any of them.
  1. Gay
A gay man’s primary sexual attraction is to other men. This includes transgender men who are attracted to other men. Some have also used gay to refer to LGBTQ+ community as a whole.
  1. Graysexual
Graysexual individuals don’t identify as asexual, but also feel less sexual attraction than most folks. Therefore, they fall into the gray area of sexuality. It can be helpful to think of asexuality as a spectrum and see graysexual as a part of this spectrum.
  1. Gynosexual
Gynosexual individuals are attracted to femininity regardless of the person’s sex or gender. For some, this could best be described as being attracted to feminine expression, presentation, or characteristics.
  1. Heterosexual
Those attracted to individuals of the opposite sex or gender are referred to as heterosexual or “straight.” For example a woman who is attracted to men. Cisgender, transgender, and non-binary folks can all identify as heterosexual.
  1. Homosexual
Homosexuality refers to those who are attracted to individuals of the same sex or gender. For example, a woman who is attracted to women. Cisgender, transgender, and non-binary folks can all identify as homosexual. However, many now feel this term is a bit outdated and clinical. The term is also now heavily used by many anti-LGBT groups, making it less used by LGBTQ+ folks and allies.
  1. Lesbian
A lesbian woman’s primary sexual attraction is to other women. This includes transgender women who are attracted to other women whether cisgender, transgender, or non-binary. There is a common misconception lesbian women are also transmen. Remember, sexuality and gender are not the same.
  1. Libidoist Asexual
These individuals are asexual, but experience sexual feelings and satisfy these through self-stimulation or masturbation. As mentioned above, asexual people are not always completely avoidant of sexual attraction, feelings, or urges. For some, satisfying these needs is more pleasurable without a partner.
  1. Monosexual
Mono means “one”. Monosexual individuals are sexually attracted to one sex or gender only. These folks could be heterosexual or homosexual. Monosexual people may use this term for many reasons, whether it be homosexual or heterosexual doesn’t feel right for them, or they just want to use a more inclusive term.
  1. Multisexual
Multisexual individuals are attracted to multiple sexes or genders. Historically, this term has been used to include those who may have sex characteristics outside of male or female and also to be inclusive of trans folks.
  1. Omnisexual
Individuals who are attracted to “all” individuals regardless of sex or gender often identify as omnisexual. Most LGBTQ+ folks grow up without language that represents their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, and because of this have to create their own. While terms’ meanings may sound similar to you, they hold importance to the person using them, and this should be respected.
  1. Pansexual
People who identify as pansexual are attracted to individuals regardless of their sex or gender. The original term was first coined by Sigmund Freud as “pan-sexualism.” The term has come a long way and even has its own history of advocacy and activism.
  1. Polysexual
Poly stems from the Greek prefix for “many,” so polysexual individuals are attracted to multiple or many genders or sexes. Some people assume polysexual is the same as polyamory, but they are not used interchangeably. Polysexual folks also do not always engage in polyamorous relationships.
  1. Queer
Queer is an umbrella term used for those who are not heterosexual or cisgender. Queer was historically used as a slur to refer to LGBTQ+ individuals, but in recent years has been liberated and taken back by the community. It’s important to remember the history of the term and realize there are still some LGBTQ+ individuals who consider this term offensive or degrading. Therefore, it’s important to only use the term if someone has expressed comfort with it.
  1. Sapiosexual
Sapiosexual individuals experience sexual attraction based on intelligence vs. sex or gender. Both LGBTQ+ folks and heterosexual folks can be sapiosexual. Sapiosexual individuals may also still find physical characteristics or qualities attractive, but it is not the most important.
  1. Skoliosexual
Skoliosexual individuals are attracted to those who are transgender or non-binary. This term has become controversial in nature and is no longer a preferred term. Instead, the above terms of Allotroposexual and Ceterosexual are used.
The term does not refer to the fetish, sexualization, and objectification of trans people by cisgender individuals. However, it has been used in this way, putting trans folks in danger. The controversy also stems from the meaning of “scolio” which means “crooked,” “bent,” or “twisted” and carries negative connotations.6
  1. Spectrasexual
Spectrasexual individuals are attracted to multiple sexes and genders, but not necessarily all or any. At times there can be some debate about the use of spectrasexual. Some people find the term problematic, as they feel it provides an avenue for certain folks to be discriminated against. Others feel it gives them the fluidity they desire.
And to end this all ( finally) I'm going to leave you all with some food for thought as to why there are so many people using "straight" on dating apps or just like during conversation.

2024.05.08 01:04 Ok_World_8819 Gen Alpha is cooked

Gen Alpha is cooked
As someone who is definitely Gen Z and doesn't know anyone who is Gen Alpha, I am very, very concerned for them.
TL;DR: Gen Alpha is watching or watched poor quality educational shows as kids, such as Ryan's World and Cocomelon. Additionally, the rise of AI could see devastating consequences for them as they enter their adolescence and young adulthood in the 2030s and 2040s.
For those not familiar: Gen Alpha is the next generation after Gen Z (who, in term, came after Millennials). The oldest of Gen Alpha is only 11 years old in 2024.
God knows what Gen Alpha is watching on YouTube Kids
The oldest of Gen Alpha was still in elementary school when ChatGPT came out; there are many rumors that Disney's Wish was written at least partially by AI. By the time the oldest members of Gen Alpha become adults during the 2030s, AI will be more advanced than we could've ever imagined even today.
We've seen what AI can do, and it is very frightening. AI-generated images, music, sentences and scripts, and even AI-generated video. What will this be like by 2031, when the very oldest of Alpha turn 18?

Whats does Harrow think of your OC?
Name: Harrow
Info: Dauntless and devout, the dark priest Harrow bestows upon his coven three virtues: salvation through sacrifice, redemption through vengeance, and ascension through defiance. Nemeses beware, for only death awaits. Enchain the tainted, silence their heresy, and deliver their tormented souls unto the Void's embrace.
Bio: Naturaly curious and wary, Rell, despite his apperance before he was a calm and senseful boy but was isolated as a child. He suffered like everyone else in the zarimen 10/0 jump incident being outcasted by the other children due to his condition (autism) and was left behined as a result. It didn't help that he liked things that were very unconventional in the current norms of society and struggles to recognize his emotions on his own. His mother Kay, another passenger aboard the Zariman, loved him dearly and worked patiently with him to manage his difficulties through a variety of tools, including a deck of cards with various faces drawn on them to help Rell identify emotions. During the incident that created the Tenno, Kay fell to the same mind-warping affliction as the rest of the adults on the ship drowning mad in the void ocean as hunting parties of the children's parents began hunting them down with knives or crude weaponry in a mad frenzy. In Kay's waning lucidity, she instructed Rell to wait with the other children. On at least one occasion, he was attacked by a "hunting party" of the adult crew and had to use his newfound Void abilities to protect himself. One of the adults who attempted to harm him was the now-maddened Kay. Rell stopped her with a Void Beam, possibly killing her, and simply stated that Kay was no longer his mother, that she was something else now - although what that was he hadn't figured out yet. Harrow(or Rell his human name) is very sensitive to the outside world often getting overwelmed by stimuli around him which he uses his donta a golden piece that spins and emits a humming noise that puts his mind at ease listening to it. However Denied access to Margulis's cryosleep and the Dream that preserved the other Tenno, Rell eventually and willingly sacrificed himself in a ritual the Veil believed would seal The Indifference out of the mortal plane. Rell's mind was bound to his Warframe, Harrow, which was then chained in the Red Veil's sacred temple in an Orokin Derelict. Due to his prolonged life, Rell's mind became splintered and separated from his vessel. While the Tenno try to recover the fragments of his mind, Rell repeatedly mentions that The Man in the Wall is listening to Tenno and grows stronger from that.

2024.05.08 00:03 mista-sparkle Saudia Arabia’s Neom Loses Momentum Among Spiraling Costs and Construction Glitches

Article text due to paywall:

World’s Biggest Construction Project Gets a Reality Check

Saudi Arabia’s plans for twin 105-mile-long skyscrapers have lost momentum amid spiraling costs and construction glitches

*By Elliott Brown and Rory Jones
The engineers saw a mountain-sized problem.
For weeks, thousands of trucks and diggers had worked 24 hours every day, scooping millions of cubic feet of sand at the world’s biggest construction project known as Neom in Saudi Arabia. But the workers had dumped the massive pile of dirt—now hundreds of feet wide—in the very spot where architects planned to dig a waterway out to the Red Sea.
So, the trucks and diggers went back to work, picking it all back up and making a new mountain of sand nearby in a costly hiccup that epitomizes the Saudi project’s turbulent journey from an audacious concept to a sprawling operation that has faltered in its execution.
Defying skeptics, Saudi Arabia is barreling ahead with hundreds of billions of dollars in projects at Neom, a built-from-scratch region the size of Massachusetts, typified by sci-fi architecture, an arid ski resort and a laundry list of flashy projects meant to attract a population larger than New York City’s.
None is more brazen than a multitrillion-dollar pair of skyscrapers taller than the Empire State Building designed to run 105 miles long and house nine million people, the flagship development dubbed “The Line.” Its champion, Saudi Crown Prince and de facto ruler Mohammed bin Salman, has likened the project to Egypt’s Great Pyramids.
The kingdom in recent months downsized the Line’s first phase, facing the reality of costs at a time the country is spending far more than it is taking in. Now organizers plan to initially build around 1.5 miles of the structure by 2030, rather than the roughly 10-mile first chunk that had previously been envisioned, multiple people briefed on the plans said. Still, even that truncated section would be by far the world’s largest building, the equivalent of more than 60 Empire State Buildings of square footage.
Asked in a CNBC interview last month about a Bloomberg report on the scaled-back first phase, Saudi Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal Al Ibrahim signaled the long-term ambitions for the Line remain the same.
“There is no change in scale—it is a long-term project that is modular in design,” he said, adding that “today, the economy in the kingdom is growing faster, but we don’t want to overheat it.”
The stakes for Saudi Arabia are as outsized as Mohammed’s ambition. Neom is the ultimate symbol of his plans to transform the kingdom’s economy, reduce its dependence on oil revenue, and make it a magnet for money and talent from around the world. But he risks squandering much of the country’s cash on an unprecedented experiment in city building that could prove too difficult to deliver.
“Mohammed bin Salman is gambling here,” said Madawi al-Rasheed, a visiting fellow at the London School of Economics and a member of a group calling for democratic reform in Saudi Arabia, an absolute monarchy.
“Spending so much money should in theory generate a tangible leap in the Saudi economy,” she said, but much of the cash so far was spent on foreign consultants and architects.
A mountain of challenges lies ahead. More than 100,000 additional construction workers must be housed in a barren corner of the kingdom’s vast desert, two hour’s drive from any sizable city. Neom’s needs for steel, exterior glass and other materials are so massive they may push up global prices and be difficult to source. Planners worry the unique central concept of the Line, a vertical city housed in twin skyscrapers the length of Delaware, could prove to be an unappealing place to live.
At the same time, the scaled-back plans for the Line put a spotlight on Neom’s enormous bill for what is now poised to be a midsize city. Neom executives now expect fewer than 200,000 residents in the project’s first phase—the population of Knoxville, Tenn.—a current and former employee familiar with the plans said. Yet Neom is spending on vast infrastructure intended for millions of people, including a giant airport, a high-speed train running through a 20-mile mountain tunnel, massive desalination plants and large civic features in the Line such as an opera house, the former executive said.
The price tag keeps rising. The projected cost of a ski resort in the region’s arid mountains has more than doubled over two years to $38 billion as of October, according to Neom documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal. Real estate advisory Knight Frank estimates more than $237 billion of construction contracts have already been commissioned at Neom.
Even for one of the world’s largest exporters of crude oil, Neom might just be too expensive. Its official cost estimate is $500 billion, 50% more than the country’s entire federal budget for the year and more than half the value of its sovereign-wealth fund.
Executives working on the project dismiss that number as unrealistically low. The first 1.5 miles of the Line alone is estimated internally to cost more than $100 billion, two people familiar with the plans said.
If it were fully built, Neom employees expect the true price of the Line would be well in excess of $2 trillion. Construction costs per square foot are more than double what is standard on other Middle East towers, they said.
This makes it unlikely Neom will attract significant private investment to fund future phases of the Line, they say. It has been funded thus far by the Saudi government.
Neom is the centerpiece of an overhaul of Saudi Arabia’s economy and identity that Mohammed began in 2015 when his father ascended the throne. Then 29 years old, the son of King Salman outmaneuvered potential heirs and rapidly consolidated power.
Hungry for change, Mohammed allowed more Western cultural norms and eliminated restrictions that forbade mixing of sexes, women drivers and cinemas. He also put even tighter limits on speech, crushing dissent over the rapid change.
The plan, Vision 2030, called for an array of new non-oil industries such as entertainment and technology and building mega-sized real-estate developments to help it become a global tourism hub.
Mohammed’s team sought proposals from the world’s top architects for ideas to design Neom. The avant-garde Los Angeles designer, Morphosis Architects, headed by Pritzker prize winner Thom Mayne, pitched a city that was 100 miles long and 1.2 miles—or two kilometers—wide, with buildings spread across the ground.
The prince had a different idea.
“I told the team, how about if we take that two kilo and we flip it to two towers to the whole line,” he said in a Discovery Channel documentary last year, clapping his hands together vertically like someone closing a book.
The idea of the skyscraper city was born.
Architects got to work designing a pair of parallel towers 650 feet apart, shrouded in a shimmering mirror glass coat that reflects red desert sand and azure blue sea. At their highest, the towers are slated to rise 1,640 feet above the desert floor, although they will be less tall in spots depending on the terrain they are traversing.
Internal documents from 2021 call for more than seven billion square feet of floor space—29% larger than all of the buildings in New York City put together and the size of more than 2,000 Empire State Buildings. Apartments, offices, schools, police stations, museums and a royal palace would be peppered inside.
Stunning—and costly—architecture is a priority. Mohammed told Neom executives he wants a sense of “zero gravity” with features appearing to defy physics and float, former executives said.
A linear city has long captivated urban planners. In 1882, Spanish architect Arturo Soria y Mata proposed an elongated urban development that inspired the “Ciudad Lineal” district of Madrid. The Line has been compared internally to Epcot Center, a former Neom executive said, the 1960s-era complex at Disney World that was intended to be a futuristic city dependent on high-speed rail. It was abandoned after Walt Disney ’s death. Epcot later became a theme park.
A linear city as big as the Line is at odds with how humans have developed cities for millennia: naturally building outward in a circular manner, typically around a core.
“It’s battling against the entire history of the way cities are founded and grow,” said John E. Fernandez, professor in the department of architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Even supporters say it is an experiment that could easily fail in practice.
In a planning document under a heading of “Key Concerns,” an employee said four different times that by fixating on building miles-long skyscrapers, Neom had turned the normal design process inside out. “USE would usually drive DESIGN. We are using DESIGN to drive USE,” the anonymous comment said.
The shape has added to challenges.
In 2020, before Mohammed unveiled the project, he asked employees to move the Line’s western end a few miles because he preferred the terrain, said people familiar with the request. Designs had to shift slightly across the entire 105 miles, causing months of extra work.
Architects have struggled to find the best ways to mix sunlight and open space in the interior. Internal documents show they wrestled with how to differentiate neighborhoods so as not to create a monolithic block—opting to build distinct half-mile sections with a different look and feel. They worried about drab living conditions at the base of the interior, given that the height of the towers would allow little light down low.
According to planning documents, designers proposed leaving gaps atop the modules to “bend” the structures around the curvature of the earth, which arches about 8 inches per mile.
Planners fretted over the billions of birds that fly on a migration route—a less-than-ideal location for a 1,600-foot-tall glass mirror.
“It is inevitable that a significant number of birds will perish,” designers wrote, with an illustration of a dead northern flicker, a woodpecker.
Looming over Neom is an inauspicious history of city-building projects, which typically die on the drawing board. Those that are built are usually scaled down, and often considered sterile.
One of modern history’s largest is Brasília, the Brazilian capital that strained the country’s finances when it was constructed in the late 1950s. After opening, residents complained of lifeless streets and a lack of neighborhood feel in the curated modernist center, which today holds less than half its expected population of 500,000. Instead, far more residents live in and around satellite towns initially built for its construction workers.

Scant progress

Seven years after launch, little has been completed other than Neom’s film studios and a sprawling new royal complex that boasts giant palaces, a golf course and at least 10 helipads, satellite images show.
Beyond the Line, Neom has a bevy of superlative-packed projects, all of them complex.
Neom is so big it has its own large-scale construction projects simply to prepare for bigger projects. A port is needed to receive materials, and Neom is spending more than $5 billion to build housing for construction workers, according to the Middle East business-trade publication MEED, which tracks Neom contracts.
Engineers and administrative workers live in a handful of Neom-built communities with schools, basketball courts, a Burger King, a Starbucks and a Hampton Inn where rooms run above $400. The first such camp already needs to be partially demolished: After a design change, the Line is now due to run right through the community, where housing is already at capacity, former employees said.
Despite being billed as zero emissions, Neom recently sought contractors to build two gas power plants totaling 800 megawatts to power the region until greener energy is sourced.
To demonstrate progress to the crown prince, engineers started putting in the foundations for the Line a couple of years ago even before architects had figured out what would go above—an unusual way to build such a massive development, engineering experts said.
Architects soon decided the first phase should be built somewhere else, leaving the Line’s initial foundations abandoned for now, said people familiar with the matter.
For over a year, the bulk of the work has been a digging operation—the world’s largest, Neom says. Four-lane makeshift construction roads are clogged with lines of dump trucks; diesel fumes from trucks and generators permeate the air.
Significant digging work has gone into swaths that even before the recent pullback weren’t scheduled to be completed for decades. Satellite images show a 60 mile gash through the desert.
The current focus is a seaside middle section, where Prince Mohammed wanted the building constructed atop a new marina that could hold the world’s biggest cruise ships. Workers are digging a hole 50 feet below sea level, over 450 acres in size. It was there that workers had excavated a small mountain of dirt, only to find it was in the wrong place.
Once foundations are laid, a key test will be if and when Neom awards the costly contracts to start vertical construction—a crucial milestone that makes it difficult to turn back.
Another question is height. Numerous executives working on Neom have questioned the need for a 1,600-foot-tall building—which carries extra engineering challenges, higher costs and makes evacuation difficult in an emergency.
Renowned British architect Peter Cook, who is involved in the Line, called the project’s height “a bit stupid and unreasonable,” according to comments published in the U.K.-based Architect’s Journal. In a later documentary, Cook, who is overall praiseful of the project, called the Line “puzzling even to those who are involved in designing it.”

2024.05.07 23:31 MushaboomFairy Looking for a TV show based on a scene I saw as a kid

The scene was from a show (probably 90s or early 2000s) and I believe I saw it on a channel like teen nick or MTV. The scene was of a young black teen talking to one or two black adults and they were asking him about a girl he knew who was pregnant and also a teen. He confessed to them that the father of the girl's baby was her stepfather.
It was one of those things where I woke up at 3am and had no idea what was going on, but that crushed me and I remembered it forever. I've never had success when searching for it, because I believe it was a minor plot to the show and probably just an episode. I don't know what show it was and was young and tired so I didn't look. Anyone know what show it was? Even better, an episode if possible?

I feel as though I am the reincarnation of my deceased grandfather
Hello Everyone,
I'm Kevin, a student from Germany. I am 26 years old. And I would like to share my mental-health journey with you.
TL:DR : Gazed into the abyss that is my family history; saw the destructive and creative potential of myself; Accepted that up until this point I was molded by my family to be a scientist, even though I now feel like I am an artist; developed the vision to rebuild the house of my family in Poland and making it a Solar Farm; Now feeling like I have been living the past life of my grandfather up to this point and that the snake has finally bitten into its tail
https://preview.redd.it/25ntzch3g2zc1.jpg?width=496&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e46b2277a1717a2dda70312ed70c8224b94e6755
My mental health-journey begins at my birth, or shortly after. My father died of testicular cancer when I was 6 months old, he left behind my mother, me and my brother, who is roughly 4 years older than me. This has lead to my family coping with the stress of my father, in many unhealthy ways. Ranging from parentification for short-term need gratification, up to manipulation to sustain the established unhealthy roles. This kind of parentification dynamic was unfortunately present for a long time.
As far as I kind make sense of it, it may have first been established when my great-grandfather died in WW II, and my grandfather (the father of my mother) had to take on additional responsibility for his mother and his small sister. My grandfather then lived on to become a farmer and a police man, in his free-time he loved to paint and play chess. He worked on the land and also made sure to take care of his police responsibilities, but he was still unstable and became an alholic, maybe due to his own difficult upbringing. He spent some time in jail, because he beat up a lawyer once and reigned over his own family with brutatility, which has lead to a lot of shame for my family.
Even though he is dead now I feel like his actions still influence the present, by quite a lot. I remember dreams in which I saw violent family situations, in which I have never participated in my waking life. I now see the house in which my mother was raised and which my grandparents lived in, as fundamentally broken. My mother has fled this broken home, and built a new life in Germany where she had met my father.
Now I am in Germany and I study to get a Master's degree in Chemistry & Economics, and specializing towards solar cell applications. My dream is to transform the land my family still owns in Poland, and which is used unwisely, for a better purpose using solar application. For me now it is a big achievement to even have a goal. Up until recently, I feel like my whole life was being dictated by the expectations of others, especially my family. I remember that already as a small child, the adults in my life were playing with my identity in front of me, pushing me in directions in an immature way. I felt pressured to become either a scientist or a lawyer, and then choose to study chemistry and become a scientist.
I worked my butt off during the first couple of years of university because I viewed this education as the golden ticket, to gain my financially unstable family off the ground. And this has then lead to a first burn-out at the end of my bachelors degree, because my identity was built on a brittle foundation - the expectations of others and financial reward.
During this time my girlfriend emotionally supported me. And even though I had good achievements I wasn't satisfied and could not take a step back. Immediately, after graduating I plunged into a master's degree in Chemistry & Economics. I was full of resentment. Full of resentment I then decided to cheat on a test, and the fear of losing my place in university, in case somebody would find out, and failing, completely annihalted my mind. Through this I fell into a depression and I could see my body deteriorate in front of my eyes. Every morning that I looked into the mirror I could see that I am losing my hair, how I had gained weight, how my life was a mess, even though everybody told me how proud of me they are, and what incredible achievement this was.
This obviously also had implications for the relationship to my girlfriend. As I was overwhelmed with my own existence I couldn't take care of her, I would even go so far as to say that I was so pre-occupied with myself that I was unable to see her. Our relationship then also ended a year later. After the relationship ended, a strange time for me began. The relationship with her and its ending, lead to me becoming very emotionally volatile for a period of about 9 months. I feel as though the relationship to her lit a dead forest on fire, which I called my life and during the time in which the dead wood was burning, I had regular intense dreams, which I tried to understand by writing down the contents and my feelings in the dream. Since then my dreams have become an important source of inspiration and tool for self-reflection.
After our relationship ended I was just a bunch of anger, melancholia and sadness. My intuition helped me guide through this by sending me to my local boxing club, where I met a couple of tough guys with whom I could fight until exhaustion. I also channeled a lot of the energy into making art, which is now my primary outlet for life. With boxing on the one hand to handle my anger, and art to express myself in a more civil manner, I found two very productive outlets, that also fit my temperament well, as I would say that I have a rather dominant and also creative personality.
I then went further and voluntered at the local jail, to conduct art workshops for the convicts, I saw this as an opportunity to get into contact with people, who could not control themselves, so that maybe I could learn how to. I had made the experience that I do not have as much control over my impulses as I would like to, and working together with two girls in a room full of male convicts was a good opportunity for me to learn what I now conceive as healthy masculinity, looking for peace and not provoking fights just for the sake of fighting, but trying to foster an environment in which people feel safe and heard.
Coming back to why I feel like I am the reincarnation of my grandfather. There are many similarities in our temperament, him loving to fight, his love for art, and him being a farmer. I share his interests and maybe some parts of his personality, and also since a couple of months I play around with the vision to rebuilt his house in Poland and transform it into a Solar Farm. This is the border of my self-knowledge up to this point, and it is very difficult for me to conceptualize myself as a being outside of my family, and I am not sure if this is really a worthwhile endeavor or my mind is trying to figure something out, and it will will move into the next place soon.
I hope you made through this text and could derive something of value for your own journey! If you want to message and talk about anything please feel free to do so.
Please if anybody is read on reincarnation topics I would love to hear some opinions, I am very interested in spiritual practices!
Also I want to build a website for mental health topics and am interested in developing 8 bit video games, so if anybody wants to connect there please reach out!
Kind regards
Kevin

2024.05.07 20:52 airtower Large Room, Need Bookshelf speakers

Moving into a new place and need to rethink my HT setup. I have a rather large space, about 20x20 feet with high, vaulted ceilings and the side of the room opposite the TV is fully open to the adjoining kitchen. Unfortunately floor standing towers are not an option, although I can and will run a subwoofer.
I have built in cabinetry flush to either side of the TV that can accommodate rather large speakers (think vintage CV or JBL L100 size), but they will have to go "in" a cabinet (obviously, there are no doors). For this reason, I'm trying to find bookshelves or monitors that are sealed, front ported, or otherwise optimized for my location than can crossover nicely to a sub but still keep up with the large space. Ideally one that can be voice matched to a center channel of relatively low depth (less than maybe ~6 inches) but pretty much unrestricted width. Satellites are under consideration but a problem for another day.
Looking to be around $1000 for the pair, but I'm prioritizing value and am not against something a few years old if they can be quickly obtained on the second hand market. Usage is probably 90/10 home theatemusic. Will be driven by an Onkyo TX-NR6050 which does 90 watts at 8 ohms. I'm indifferent on any particular sound profile other than preferring good balance and range over outright SPL.

2024.05.07 19:39 Captain_Hook_ GPS "Global Protection System" - the intentionally confusingly-named, classified satellite missile defense system jointly established by USA and Russia in 1992, by joint order of George H.W. Bush and Boris Yeltsin

Joint United States-Russian Statement on a Global Protection System
June 17, 1992
The Presidents continued their discussion of the potential benefits of a Global Protection System (GPS) against ballistic missiles, agreeing that it is important to explore the role for defenses in protecting against limited ballistic missile attacks. The two Presidents agreed that their two nations should work together with allies and other interested states in developing a concept for such a system as part of an overall strategy regarding the proliferation of ballistic missiles and weapons of mass destruction. Such cooperation would be a tangible expression of the new relationship that exists between Russia and the United States and would involve them in an important undertaking with other nations of the world community.
The two Presidents agreed it is necessary to start work without delay to develop the concept of the GPS. For this purpose they agreed to establish a high-level group to explore on a priority basis the following practical steps:
-- The potential for sharing of early warning information through the establishment of an early warning center.
-- The potential for cooperation with participating states in developing ballistic missile defense capabilities and technologies.
-- The development of a legal basis for cooperation, including new treaties and agreements and possible changes to existing treaties and agreements necessary to implement a Global Protection System.

WHY GPALS? A SUGGESTED APPROACH FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SYSTEM
by Samuel E. Garcia, Colonel, USAF
April 1993
Proponents of [the GPALS system] ... cite recent Russian statements during the discussions exploring development of a Global Protection System (see below), which appear much more flexible toward the treaty than in the past. (15:68)
...
... in response to President Bush's call for joint steps to explore deployment of defenses against limited ballistic missile attacks, President Yeltsin announced a "'readiness to work out and subsequently to create and jointly operate' a Global Protection System (GPS)." (15:61) His response, and the high level US-Russian negotiations on GPS that have taken place since, have led supporters of SDI to begin to characterize it as a system that will contribute to EastWest stability particularly if deployed in such a way that both countries realize benefits from the system. (15:69-70)
...
The space-based Brilliant Eyes sensors... could provide the cornerstone for a joint missile warning center (as a tentative first step toward their proposed Global Protection System) to improve their defenses and add stability to their relationship with the US. ... however, if its capability were shared with the former republics of the USSR, such amendments would probably be easily done under the auspices of the on-going Global Protection System discussions.
...
In spite of the above, however, the pursuit of some form of a global protection system is worth continued research. While it may never live up to President Reagan's original vision... the pursuit of such a system, in conjunction with the former Soviet Union and the rest of the world, may generate the basic trust necessary to insure that such a capability is never needed.

... The "stealth" factor for cruise missiles, meaning their ability to avoid detection, is important in considering the proliferation of these weapons by potential enemies. The Global Protection System (confusingly, also called "GPS") being developed by the U.S. Strategic Defense Initiative (ostensibly, jointly with the Russians) as currently envisioned would not have the capability to track or destroy cruise missiles.

GPS talks between the U.S. and Russia at both the political and technical level took place last year, along with consultations with our allies and friends. While these talks have been constructive, no consensus has emerged regarding the form or implementation of a GPS concept

Review Objectives
...
PART I: ASSESSMENT
...
C. ABM Treaty
...
  1. What would be the effect of a U.S. decision to multilateralize the ABM Treaty on (1) the goals established in the MDA, as amended, and (2) U.S. proposals in the discussions on a Global Protection System, as left pending at the end of the last administration?
...
D. Global Protection System
  1. What is the status of GPS discussions with Russia, NATO, and others?
  2. What are the positions of and major issues and concerns that have been raised by Russia and our friends and allies?
  3. What elements of a GPS appear to be broadly acceptable to Russia, friends and allies?
  4. What is the Russian view of GPS and how does it accord with our own view? What would be the Russian reaction if we dropped GPS?
...
PART II: POLICY OPTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
...
D. Global Protection System
  1. Should we continue to pursue a multilateral Global Protection System? If so, what elements should it contain, and how much will they cost? For example:
  • in what context and under what conditions should we offer Russia and others early warning information and, if so, how much? Are we prepared to offer Brilliant Eyes and other data that would enhance ballistic missile defenses? In exchange for what?
  • what kinds of technologies, e.g., ATBMs, sensors, are we prepared to share? Is it feasible to share the benefits of GPS without sharing the technology? With what countries could we share such technology or benefits? What are the implications for our nonproliferation objectives? Are we prepared to make technology sharing a truly two-way street?
  • how should this be linked to our BMD objectives and ABM Treaty issues?
  1. Should we adopt an all-or-nothing approach to gaining international agreement to GPS or take a step-by-step approach?
  • Are there some steps which have intrinsic value (e.g., the sharing of early warning information) and which should be pursued independently of our BMD objectives?
  • Should we continue to seek Russian agreement to the GPS concept before bringing other participants into the discussions?
  • Are there special requirements -- e.g., ensuring the viability of the Russian BMD system -- that suggest a need for priority inclusion of the relevant non-Russian NIS in the GPS?

Mazarr, M.J., Lennon, A.T. (1994). Strategic Defenses.
In: Mazarr, M.J., Lennon, A.T. (eds) Toward a Nuclear Peace. Palgrave Macmillan, New York.
In the wake of the Persian Gulf War and the collapse of the Soviet Union, the focus of the Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) has shifted from defense against massive missile attacks to defense against much smaller attacks. In his 1991 State of the Union address, President George Bush stated: Looking forward, I have directed that the SDl program be refocused on providing protection from limited missile strikes, whatever their source. Let us pursue an SDl program that can deal with any future threat to the United States, to our forces overseas, and to our friends and allies. The Pentagon's Strategic Defense Initiative Organization (SDIO) quickly enshrined these goals in its "global protection against limited strikes" program, later renamed the Global Protection System (GPS). This system is intended to address two types of threats: the possibility of an accidental or unauthorized missile launch from the former Soviet Union and intentional attacks from Third World nations. The GPS and related proposals for limited missile defenses have received substantial support in Congress. [1] This, combined with the recent agreement between Presidents Bush and Yeltsin to explore the possibility of joint work on a global missile defense, has reinvigorated the debate over limited defenses. Theater Missile Defense Integration Issues, June 1993
MG Randall D. Peat, USAF (ret.) and Dr. Richard C. Goodwin. Reported sponsored by Defense Nuclear Agency.
The objectives of GPS parallel the joint [US-Russia] statement. Specifically, GPS would be a multilateral system in which the participants would (a) share ballistic missile early warning data to enhance missile defense performance; (b) cooperate in developing ballistic missile defense (BMD) capabilities and technologies; and (c) cooperate in BMD activities.
It is necessary to clearly delineate between GPS and GPALS. According to Douglas Graham (OSD/ISP) and Edward Gerry (SDIO), GPALS is strictly a U.S program with major components of (a) national missile defense; (b) theater missile defense; and (c), global missile defense. They suggest that the U.S. would offer GPALS capabilities and early warning data to GPS. Further, they emphasize that, rather than being a acquisition program, GPS is a "mechanism" for coordinating the launch warning and missile defense assets of the participants, and also, will be evolved within existing security commitments. BALLISTIC MISSILE DEFENSE FOR THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY (1994): At the crossroads of Global Security Lt Col Charles Shotwell, USAF; Maj Joginder Dhillon, USAF; Capt Deborah C. Pollard, USAF
Currently, GPS is still in its conceptual stages with respect to membership technology, command and control, and many other issues that are yet to be addressed. The concept overview appears to be an attempt by the US to make such a system more palatable to its international partners by emphasizing the truly equal stature of all participants and the collective aspect of such a system. The concept of operations for a global protection system underscores the importance of establishing a "voluntary association of sovereign states committed to assisting one another in meeting the challenge to their national security and international stability that is posed by the proliferation of ballistic missiles and weapons of mass destruction."[24]
By refocusing the SDI program toward the contributions of GPALS to GPS, the US has significantly increased the priority assigned to theater missile defenses. In fact, improved theater missile defenses would be the first elements of GPALS to be deployed. Moreover, it is interesting to note that even in these times of tight budgets, the US Congress has appropriated funds to accelerate theater missile defense (TMD) development.
..
Since the US has already made it clear that it wants its "friends and allies" on board for GPS, it must now decide how to approach these nations. An obvious option would be to deal with NATO as a single entity, seeking alliance cooperation and support for initiatives under the GPS umbrella. This option may appear to be the most expedient since it provides the opportunity to address these issues in a single forum and to build consensus by making strategic defense an alliance goal.
However, the cohesiveness of NATO's response to GPS will center around the answers to some key questions: (1) What is the threat? (2) What is the alliance responding to? (3) How is it to respond? and (4) Why should it respond? Presently, NATO is unwilling to agree to the assumptions underlying GPS before reaching an agreement on the basic principles defining the problem. **In dealing with nations on an individual basis, it will be important for the US to take each country's specific concerns into account. These concerns can be consolidated into broad areas of general concern:
** 1. GPS must be AHM-compliant, but there is a willingness to accept amendments, modifications, or clarifications if agreement amongst the international community can be reached.
  1. The viability of British and French independent nuclear deterrence must be maintained or an acceptable security substitute must be established.
  2. Militarization of space must be avoided at all costs.
  3. The first step towards a global protection system should be an emphasis an theater missile defense.
  4. Ballistic missile defense will only be supported by individual nations if it can be defined to be in that country's national interest or viewed as contributing to the stability and security of the region.
  5. Plans for development and deployment of GPS must be accompanied by assurances that West European and other security arrangements are not decoupled from US security interests.
  6. The issue of cost must be addressed early on in the policy process. America's allies will neither support nor fund a program that cannot stand up to a cost-benefit analysis.
  7. It is imperative that friends and allies are kept informed of ongoing discussions with Russia, as well as being included in the consultations and negotiations. They have made it explicitly clear that they will not support a program that they are not involved in developing.
  8. There are pressing political and technical questions such as command and control and releasability of information to third parties that must be addressed and answered. Allies are concerned that the US is pursuing this global panacea without any forethought to the political, technical, and strategic ramifications.
...
Placing the issue of the use of space for defensive purposes on the world agenda in the context of the global protection system could serve to force all players to "lay their cards on the table." The issue recognizes the reality of state actions in the use of space but channels those activities into an open, constructive, and cooperative mode. Rather than allowing space to be subverted to aggressive purposes, we may bring the militarization of space under control by addressing the issue publicly.

Missile Defense Programs Lag Behind the Threat - 11 January 2000.
Article by Baker Spring, pub. by the Heritage Foundation.
Congress is seeking to deploy ballistic missile defenses as soon as development of the technology permits. The sense of urgency is clear: The expansion of the missile threat has outpaced the development and deployment of missile defense systems.
...
This dangerous state of affairs has been exacerbated by the Clinton Administration's neglect of missile defense. As the threat has grown, U.S. defenses have been weakened. Defense capabilities lag behind the threat for one reason: President Bill Clinton has dismantled the robust missile defense program he inherited from the Bush Administration. For example, the Clinton Administration:
Terminated the Bush Administration's missile defense deployment plan, called Global Protection Against Limited Strikes (GPALS);
Cut funding for missile defense development programs in half;
Terminated the "Brilliant Pebbles" space-based interceptor development program; and
Walked out of talks with Russia regarding cooperation on efforts to meet the missile threat to both countries, essentially snubbing President Boris Yeltsin's Global Protection System (GPS) proposal for such cooperation on missile defense.

THE MINIATURE SENSOR TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION (MSTI) PROGRAM: AN OVERVIEW Jason R. Feig, Air Force Phillips Laboratory, Edwards AFB, CA
Richard S. Matlock; Major G. Scott Yeakel.
Ballistic Missile Defense Organization, The Pentagon
The Ballistic Missile Defense Organization Technology Deputate's Miniature Sensor Technology Integration (MSTI) program was established to test in realistic operational scenarios, BMDO developed miniature sensors for missile detection and tracking on low cost, rapidly built and deployed low-earth orbit satellites.
...
In addition to its primary mission, the MSTI program also serves as BMDO's cornerstone both for exploring the potential for dual-use of DOD space-based sensors for environmental/ecological disaster monitoring and for executing joint, international space missions, such as with the Russians under proposals advanced within the Global Protection System political context. This paper will describe the MSTI program approach, results of the first mission and plans for the future.
In addition to its primary mission, the MSTI program also serves as BMDO's cornerstone both for exploring the potential for dual use of DOD space-based sensors for environmental/ ecological monitoring and for executing joint, international space missions with our traditional allies. Discussions are ongoing with representatives from England, France, Italy and Israel. One thrust advanced within the Global Protection System (GPS) political discussions is the concept of joint U.S.-Russian space-based sensor missions. While the exact design of such missions is still being considered, the concept for the Russian American Observational Stereo Satellites (RAMOS) is receiving high interest. In the MSTI/RAMOS Program, the U.S. and Russia would jointly build individual satellites that would be operated together to collect high resolution background data and track various ballistic missile targets in the visible and infrared wavelengths. U. S. studies of this concept are continuing with a conceptual design of the U. S. RAMOS payload suite for integration to a standard MSTI satellite bus and the development of a mission requirements specification. The technical payoff for the MSTI/IRAMOS program is high, for example, the background data that would be gathered would fill long standing gaps in U. S. knowledge of the midwave infrared clutter data base.

2024.05.07 18:52 LeeBee4Free Possible $120 Research Opportunity! Participate in research about the sexual objectification experiences of AMAB non-binary people!

Hello fellow queer peoples -
We are looking for 15 (1) AMAB (2) non-binary/gender queer-identifying (3) non-minors (4) who can complete an interview and structured journaling in English. We are looking for a wide range across demographics and the group will be chosen to maximize that range. Not all people who express interest in the study will be chosen to participate in the study.
For the purposes of this study, we are using the following definition of sexual objectification: Sexual objectification is “the experience of being treated as a body (or collection of body parts) valued predominantly for its use to (or consumption by) others” (Flores et al., 2018; Fredrickson & Roberts, 1997, p. 174)
This is a three-part project, where you will:
This is a lot of work! To honor your time, you’ll receive up to $120, divided between the three tasks. Study participation is confidential, you will have the option to choose a pseudonym and we won’t connect any identifying information with your responses.
Who are we? Lee Pradell ([Lee.Pradell@usu.edu](mailto:Lee.Pradell@usu.edu)) and Dr. Renee Galliher ([Renee.Galliher@usu.edu](mailto:Renee.Galliher@usu.edu)) from Utah State University’s Psychology Department are the researchers for this study. This study has been reviewed and approved by our IRB (protocol #14042). If you’re interested, click this link to fill out a demographics questionnaire.

TRICON for Ethical Trans Research

We are actively involved in supporting the trans non-binary community and hope our research can be used to support this work. In accordance with the Transgender Research Informed Consent (TRICON) Disclosure Policy, we would like to provide additional information to interested AMAB non-binary people about our research. “TRICON consists of ten disclosure questions, to be repeated an answered by investigators of research on TGD populations in all announcements, communication, and social media posts that solicit study participants.” TRICON was created to “empower Transgender and Gender-Diverse (TGD) community members to make informed decisions on participation in research studies, within a historical context of decades of research that is all too often biased, defamatory, misgendering, exploitive, or non-consensual.” This and more information can be found at the Trans Policy Reform Blog (https://transpolicyreform.wordpress.com/2022/10/08/transgender-research-informed-consent-tricon-disclosure-policy-2022-update/)
Below are the required TRICON Disclosure Questions with our answers about this study:
  1. What is the specific objective of the study and its intended impact on future trans lives?
  2. The study aims to document the sexual objectification experiences of AMAB non-binary people through interviews and a real-time flow-chart task. This work is an extension of previous research:
  3. The Sexual Objectification Experiences of Non-Binary People: Embodied Impacts and Acts of Resistance (2024)
  4. Body maps depict how sexual objectification shapes non-binary people relating to their bodies (2023)
  5. These studies used a sample of non-binary people and unintentionally recruited non-binary people that were read as feminine or AFAB and described sexual objectification from this position. We are therefore interested in understanding how AMAB non-binary people experience sexual objectification. This research is intended to create community with participants and researchers through individual and group interviews. The research practice, particularly the process chart component, was described by previous participants as “healing” (Pradell et al., under review). We also intend to expand and contribute to a growing body of research by trans people for other trans people. We see the potential impact in policy, clinical work, pedagogy, and research practice.
  6. What is the target study population? Describe geographic scope, languages, and intersectional inclusion?
    1. We are recruiting AMAB non-binary adults who have experienced sexual objectification. We aim to recruit a heterogeneous sample across identity factors to speak to the intersectional nature of sexual objectification. This means we aim for a breadth of racial, ethnic, religious, ability, class and educational identities within our sample. As a monolingual person, we are recruiting English speaking participants. To geographically ground the findings, we are recruiting participants across the United States of America.
  7. Who is/are the principal investigatos, and what is/are the sponsoring institution/s organization/s?
    1. I, Lee Pradell (they/them), am the principal investigator. I am a fourth year Ph.D. Clinical/Counseling Psychology student studying at Utah State University (USU). Renee V. Galliher, Ph.D. (she/her) is my research mentor and oversees this study. I am conducting this research as my dissertation project, which is funded equally by the USU Psychology Department and USU College of Education.
  8. How are trans scholars/researchers included in leadership of this research work?
    1. I, Lee Pradell, am a trans/non-binary scholar. Josh Parmenter (they/he) is another trans scholar working on this research project. The three other members of our coding team are Elizabeth Grace Wong (she/her), Kevin Chi (he/him), and Renee V. Galliher (she/her). They are queer, cisgender people.
  9. Who is funding the study? Describe any conflicts of interest.
    1. I am conducting this research as my dissertation project, which is funded equally by the USU Psychology Department and USU College of Education. The study I proposed is approved by a committee of five researchers with Ph.D.’s who are invested in contributing to a field of rigorous, communal research. We have no other conflicts of interest to disclose.
  10. Describe approval of this study by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) or equivalent authority and how TGD scholars are represented in the IRB or the oversight process.
  11. This study was approved by the USU IRB (Protocol #14042) in March 2024. It went through two rounds of edits between Lee Pradell, Renee V. Galliher, and the USU IRB to follow ethical research practice guidelines. To my knowledge, the USU IRB does not currently include any TGD members. We have however shared with them the Trans Policy Reform Blog and the TRICON information outlining ethical research practice with TGD people.
  12. Describe ethical practices in this research that are specific to needs of TGD subjects.
  13. Our TGD participants will communicate directly with myself, a TGD person. During the process, I will check on them weekly over email about their wellbeing throughout the research process. We are including a focus group component to both increase the rigor of our research findings and connect our participants with community, which is particularly important for the TGD community.
  14. Is there a cost or travel requirement, or is there compensation for participants?
  15. There is no cost/travel requirement, all activities are done independently or over Zoom. For participation in this research study, participants receive $40 for completing three charting experiences and $40 for the online individual interview. If they choose to participate in the follow up focus group, they will receive $40 for the online group discussion. Thus, they can earn a total of $120 USD for completing the charting, interview, and follow up group discussion, payable either via a prepaid debit card sent by mail or an online gift card to a retailer of their choice sent by email. They will only be compensated for the portions of the study that they complete. They will be compensated at the end of their participation in the study, after completing all the components of the study they choose to.
  16. Is participation in this research required for access to non-experimental affirming medical care?
  17. No, participation in this study does not implicate/impact access to affirming care.
  18. How will the results of this research be accessible to TGD communities through open access journals or channels?
  19. Through the USU digital commons, the accepted dissertation will be posted in May 2025. Published findings will be available through journals after their acceptance. Given the peer-review process necessary to publish in academic journals, we cannot give a precise date of publication. We estimate these findings will be published by May 2026. The journals we publish in often require the author to fund open access, which is not something the USU Psychology Department has historically funded. We do however distribute our manuscripts to open access channels, such as Research Gate and the USU Digital Commons.
  20. You will be contacted by myself, from [lee.pradell@usu.edu](mailto:lee.pradell@usu.edu), after you complete the online screening form to let you know if you are eligible for this project. I’ll notify you via email if I’ve selected you to be on this research team - if not, I’ll ask if you’d like to be contacted for future non-binary/queer research projects. If you’re interested, start by filling out the screening questionnaire: https://usu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3Uk9xU9A030I44e Thank you for your time, Lee

2024.05.07 18:01 Mr_Football Every day this entire month I am interviewing members of the Fantasy Football industry about Mental Health. Tonight: Dave Kluge (7pm ET)

Hey guys,
A bit of a different post today but an important one: It's mental health awareness month, and in an effort to help the fantasy football industry embrace this, I am interviewing one member of the industry every day for 30 days straight.

Tonight's episode is with Dave Kluge!

https://preview.redd.it/ukc08t6q11zc1.png?width=2560&format=png&auto=webp&s=483dda5a627a2c19328e61705b0c4c958599ea9f
7pm ET: https://www.youtube.com/live/TVoDormAIIw?si=kzGyTuBvA6G5tFsh
Selfishly, these have been fantastic to be a part of so far. I've been able to learn more about autism, ptsd, counseling, depression, anxiety and even habits that help someone maintain a healthy relationship to gambling and fantasy sports.
I hope someone out there can find these stories and lessons fruitful, and remember:
You are not alone.
A quick summary of the previous episodes:

Episode 1 - Nick Whalen

In this inaugural episode of the Judgement Seesaw podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Nick Whalen, a counselor and prominent figure in the fantasy football community, about the often-overlooked topic of mental health within our industry. Our conversation explored the potential downsides of social media reliance, the importance of setting boundaries, and the power of active listening in fostering genuine connections. Nick shared practical tips for maintaining mental well-being, such as practicing gratitude, prioritizing exercise, and focusing on personal goals. He also emphasized the importance of remembering our individual purposes within the fantasy sports world and prioritizing self-care. This episode provided valuable insights and resources for navigating the mental health landscape of fantasy sports, aiming to create a healthier and more supportive community for all. I encourage everyone to tune in and join us on this journey towards greater awareness and understanding.

Episode 2 - Jeff Sanders

This episode of the Judgement Seesaw brought me face-to-face with Jeff Sanders, a Marine Corps veteran with a truly inspiring story. Our conversation delved into the intersection of mental health and veteran affairs, exploring the unique challenges faced by service members upon returning home. Jeff's personal journey, from battling depression as a young adult to finding strength and purpose in the military, resonated deeply with me. His experience with a life-altering injury and subsequent recovery highlighted the importance of resilience, faith, and a strong support system. We discussed the dangers of succumbing to a victim mentality and the power of taking proactive steps towards healing. Jeff's candidness about his struggles with alcohol and his reliance on therapy and faith provided valuable insights for anyone facing similar challenges. His story is a testament to the human spirit's ability to overcome adversity and find hope, even in the darkest of times. I am grateful for Jeff's willingness to share his experiences and inspire others on their own paths to recovery.

Episode 3 - Brendon Booth

In this installment of the Judgement Seesaw, I had the pleasure of speaking with Brendon Booth, a fellow content creator and a shining example of embracing one's creativity to forge a unique path in life. Brendon's journey resonated with me deeply, as he shared his experiences with Oppositional Defiant Disorder, anxiety, and ADD, and how these challenges shaped his early years. His willingness to be open and vulnerable about his struggles with self-medication and the importance of finding a supportive network provided valuable insights for anyone facing similar obstacles. We discussed the challenges and joys of being a creative soul, the constant pursuit of new ideas and projects, and the importance of finding that one thing that truly ignites passion and focus. Brendon's story, from his unconventional path through high school to his fulfilling career in substance abuse counseling and his current endeavors in comedy and fantasy football content creation, is an inspiration to anyone who dares to chase their dreams. His message of self-acceptance, perseverance, and embracing one's unique talents is a powerful reminder that we all have the potential to create a life filled with joy and purpose.

Episode 4 - Brian Ford

On this episode, Brian Ford and I delved into a deeper conversation about societal structures and their impact on mental health. Brian's openness about his experiences with anxiety, depression, cyclothymia, ADHD, and autism shed light on the unique challenges faced by neurodivergent individuals in a world that often overlooks their needs. We discussed the concept of "masking" and the invisibility of many neurodivergent struggles, highlighting the importance of creating inclusive spaces and advocating for greater understanding and support. Our conversation ventured beyond the realm of fantasy football, exploring the limitations of the education system, the complexities of late-stage capitalism, and the need for systemic change to address the root causes of mental health issues. Brian's perspective as a former history teacher and his passionate advocacy for social justice offered valuable insights into the interconnectedness of societal structures and individual well-being. While the fantasy football industry provides a sense of community and escape for many, it is crucial to acknowledge the broader context in which mental health struggles exist and to advocate for a more equitable and just society that supports the needs of all individuals.

Episode 5 - Leo McNeely

In this episode of the Judgement Seesaw, Leo McNeely, a rising star in the fantasy football industry and most accurate IDP expert in the business, joined me for a thought-provoking discussion on managing the mental health challenges associated with playing fantasy sports. Leo's perspective as a relative newcomer to the industry, coupled with his impressive success in fantasy competitions, offered valuable insights into finding balance and prioritizing well-being. We explored the potential pitfalls of overextending oneself, the importance of setting realistic goals, and the benefits of maintaining a positive and supportive mindset. Our conversation highlighted the need for self-awareness and self-regulation in navigating the competitive and often stressful world of fantasy football. Leo shared practical strategies for managing multiple leagues, including setting boundaries, creating schedules, and prioritizing tasks to avoid feeling overwhelmed. We also touched on the potential dangers of gambling and the importance of responsible play. Leo's insights and advice serve as a reminder that while fantasy sports can be an enjoyable and rewarding hobby, it's essential to prioritize our mental health and well-being by setting boundaries, managing expectations, and fostering a supportive community within the industry.
As for me? I'm Ronnie Evans. I'm gearing up to launch goodguyai, where I will be showcasing AI advancements and that relate to the world of fantasy sports and gambling, demoing products made by my peers in the industry, and offering guides and resources on how to integrate AI into your fantasy football shenanigans. Behind all of that, I am a long time Mental Health sufferer who still -- after three decades -- am recovering from childhood trauma and working through managing chronic depression and anxiety.
As such, I am launching the goodguyai youtube channel with a Mental Health Awareness Takeover for May, and will do this again every year. The other 11 months will be beep-boop central though.
Been around on this site for almost 15 years. Accounts have come and gone. Reddit has changed. But one thing has remained constant:
Gaining exposure, expanding conversations, and embracing/being embraced by communities of hundreds of thousands -- if not millions -- of strangers is my favorite aspect of the internet, and Reddit is the leader.
