2024.05.09 13:17 alialharasy Have you experience one-sided friendship?

2024.04.24 22:29 Sea-Chance-9249 Bahasa Inggrisnya Nalangin?

Serius nanya bahasa inggrisnya nalangin apa ya? Tapi tapi sblm itu just want to make sure is β€œnalangin” even bahasa indonesia apa bahasa sunda ya?πŸ˜‚ duh maaf bgt ni kadang suka gakbisa bedain mana bahasa indonesia mana bahasa sunda (contoh: serutan vs rautan, serodotan vs perosotan - all these times i thought serutan dan serodotan tu bhs indo pdhl sunda). Tapi in case nalangin tuh bahasa sunda, definisi nalangin:
β€œBiar aku bayarin dulu, kamu gantiin nanti aja” <- β€œbiar aku talangin dulu deh”
TAPI INI BUKAN NGUTANG Y GAES.
Kaya temporarily bayarin dulu gitu ngerti gaksih kalo misal buru2.
Yauda gitu aja kalo ada yg tau simplified word of β€œnalangin” in English plis kasi tau.

Terima kasih sebelumnya.

2024.04.24 09:34 HolyNoob299 Why elderly Chinese that doesn't speak BM exist, in light of the recent passport issue

I have never posted a topic here before as I don't like touching on politics or indoctrinating other people. But the recent BM literacy issue on an elder person trying to renew pasport kinda touched a spot on me. I'm only writing this to lay down shy elderly that doesn't know a lick of BM exists. Whether to condemn them for never trying to embrace the Malaysian spirit or be understanding towards them is up to you guys, I'm just sharing.
To those questioning how could someone like that holding a blue IC exist in Malaysia where BM is everywhere and doubt that even any Malaysians like that existed. Let me get this fact straight, they definitely exist. And there are still quite a number of them. Many of them live quite isolated lives, never left their hometowns as it was usual back then like my grandma. Work in hometown, play mahjong with friends, go chinese pasar, take care of kids, grandkids, go on Chinese guided tour once in a while out of the town. Rinse and repeat from birth until now 80+ years old. Because back then the culture is different, not many women are wishing to get out to see the world ans are just contempt.
M grandma, almost 90 years old at this point does actually speak a little bit of BM. Not enough to see the doctor or talk to people on her own, but combined with gestures and pointing she'll get her message through. Many of her friends are between 70 - around her age, and many of my grandma's friends never spoke a lick of BM. Today still don't know how to read, write or speak BM because their whole lives revolved around their taman. Now most old liao never leave the house, even no chance to ever learn BM. Most don't even read alphabets.
And again, my experience isn't in some small Cina town isolated from cities and such. I'm from PJ where my family has been in the Klang Valley for over 150 years. I frequently take the LRT as well and many from those generations I have guided so many times. Most of the reason they ever ventured out of their taman? Because their old friend's kids bought a new place so they moved to new taman, hence travelling to play mahjong or sit at kopitiam with them. They malu to ask PIC because they only know Cantonese or Hakka and only some Mandarin to get by. They only tell me which station number they should go down and which bus number but sometimes get lost. And I encounter this OFTEN.
Maybe because I have a friendly face or maybe because I'm fluent in Cantonese, Hakka and Mandarin as well with small lick of Hokkien, because I talk to my grandma and her friends often. So maybe I seem more approachable to them, as often they will always instinctively walk over and ask me when even I'm sitting quite a distance away in a LRT full of other people. Luckily I'm able to korek my memory of Chinese names of some tamans and places my grandma referenced to before, else I also don't know where are they headed or how to guide them.
Remember, most of them are from the times before Malaysia or Malaya was ever formed. Many of them tell you their first memories are mostly about the Japanese occupation and such. My grandma told me she vividly remembers how Japanese bombers leveled the cement factory she was working in when she was a child. Remember, completely different times where child labour is common.
Well, surely it's still impossible to not learn any BM? Surely they had to order food or head out at some point? Why Indian elderly seem to be more fluent in BM than elderly Cina? Well to summarise what I've been trying to say this whole time: the Chinese community in Malaysia has been self-sufficient enough with a big enough population that they never needed to. Culturally for millenia, the Chinese has always built-up their own self-sufficient and close-knit communities even back in Mainland China before. A town would speak their own dialect never knowing what's happening on the outside, and there would be select people in a town tasked with learning to read and write what is called "bahasa pegawai" to deal with governmental affairs which would later become Mandarin after the introduction of national education.
Millenia of such habits is impossible to dissappear with 1 or 2 generations along, hence why only the past 2 generations we're finally seeing more inter-mingling. Hence, the thought of learning the national language when in another country never occurred to them. It was never a practice even in China, the majority got by with only their own dialects for generations. Most came from the times of the Taiping rebellion, Hakka-Punti war and later the Sino-Japanese War and distrust even towards other clan members was an all-time high. Remember in history we had the Larut Wars between the different dialect groups, as well as the razing and "founding" of KL by Yap Ah Loy which was actually part of the wider inter-dialect conflict that just happened be guised under the Sultan's banner. Because that's how closed off and segregated each community was. And the British played that into full effect.
Because as mentioned that in their minds, being a Malaysian was never a thing. The country of Malaya and subsequently Malaysia wasn't even a thing when they were born. They only knew themselves as Chinese living in another land, just like their ancestors centuries or millenia ago migrating South to get away from the devastation in the homeland. They definitely weren't China Chinese as during that time a few generations have passed; but they definitely never thought of themselves as Malaysian. It was only something to let them legally live here as they always were, and travel in and out the country legally. As for my grandma? Will she ever put in the effort to learn BM even if the whole country condemns her? Probably not, she just stays at home nowadays watch HK drama or sometimes gather at kopitiam play mahjong waiting for their time to end. In her mind, she already passed all the hopes to her grandchildren like me after raising all of them, there's nothing more she needs to do and just enjoying her days now.
So there's that, I'll leave it at that. What you guys think of this information is on yourselves.
Side note: To those asking why then how should we differentiate illegal aliens from China then? For Chinese, it is very easy to tell if someone is from China or 2nd generation China-origin and not Malaysian. It is impossible for them to be like the Cina in Malaysia where most are 4th, 5th generation at this point. Even Hongkonger who lived in Malaysia for over a decade speaking Cantonese to me, I can also immediately tell that person wasn't born in Malaysia.

2024.04.22 11:10 Danielfaris2001 Siapa Sasterawan Negara ke-16???
