2024.05.20 05:01 introvert_cave317 Starting over

Alright I have been on a budgeting journey for a few years. I was doing okish and then was involved in a scam and lost over 75K. I recently had to buy a new (used) car and got played again costing me about 10K. Two years ago I had to file bankruptcy, I haven't been able to get a credit card all that time. Today I was approved for a Walmart Mastercard and I am jazzed. Since I am so diligent with my budget I know I'll need to be extra careful with my spending. I think the best way for me to see the right results is to start over. I currently use Easy Budget (playstore) and it's perfect! The only issue is you can only track one account (easily). I have tried to have different accounts for different needs or goals but I end up getting confused moving money around between accounts over and over again. I'm not thrilled about erasing and reinputting all my data and until I have that done and the credit card in my hand I'm going to be a bit nutty, but in the end it will work out!

2024.05.20 04:59 photon11 Best Card for Travel Benefits? citi primier vs venture x vs Chase Sapphire

So I am looking for a new credit card to maximize my traveling and need help. My options are what's in the title: Chase sapphire reserve/preferred with the freedom unlimited or either the venture x or capital one primier city card. Does anyone have any experience with any of these cards and can speak about their practical benefits?
For reference, majority of my expenses is rent, grocery, gas, sometimes eating out. It seems like citi primier gets the most points so is that the best?

2024.05.20 04:58 PumaLaGata Difficulties, declines with Apple Pay?

I was approved for a Chase Sapphire Preferred card last week, have my online account setup, and am only waiting for the physical card by mail. I am planning an international trip, and trying to get some rewards/benefits with the new card. Chase advertises that I could gain benefits by using it before I even receive it, but after about a week, it's been hit-or-miss. Am I missing something?
First, I tried to book a flight on the Chase travel portal for the 5x point reward. However to pay, it required the full credit card information-number, security code, etc. My research showed so far that I can only access that when my physical card gets here. It does not talk to my Chase account, despite being "Chase" travel portal, and me being signed in. Does not accept ApplePay either, whether I am on the app or the website. Hm, that's counterintuitive...I went ahead and bought the tickets on my normal CC. Moving on...
I turned to using Chase on ApplePay for other travel expenses; 3 of the purchases went through (foreign train tickets), then 2 declined for AirBNBs. On AirBnB, it declined my 1st attempt to make a reservation; I shortly received a text from Chase Fraud asking me to confirm if it was me making the purchase, I replied Yes, and retried the payment with success. Now is my 2nd time trying to make a new reservation on AirBNB, and my ApplePay declined again. This time with no text. Tried paying again, declined a second time.
It shows the declined attempts in my Apple-Wallet. I called the customer service line robot, that routed me to Fraud services, and said my wait was >50 minutes.
I'll call them back tomorrow. But for those experienced Chase users, is this new cardholder experience normal? Have you gone through this before? Any fixes I should be doing on my end?

2024.05.20 04:57 Mile_High_Kiwi Canstar awards meaningless?

What's your view on Canstar awards and do they hold any weight? I consider them an industry award with little relevance to consumers. When they said "we evaluated 5 providers" what they mean is only 5 submitted an entry. They're not comprehensively reviewing all of the options, and providers have to pay to use the award in any promotions. So a money generating exercise not seeking to benefit consumers. Thoughts?
E.g. current winners...
TSB - everyday accts & credit cards Heartland - savings ANZ - Agricultural banking ASB - Digital SBS - first home buyers.

2024.05.20 04:55 OkBaby5546 Credit card and offset account is the best strategy for those with home loans?

Hi - just interested in what everyone else is doing to best manage their cashflow.
Our family use the credit card for all expenses wherever possible, which is paid off in full at the end of each month. And both salaries get paid into the offset account.
Is this the best strategy? Any other tips?
Also if anyone has done research on what’s the best credit card to have for this purpose (rather than for travel points etc) would love to hear from you. Thanks.

2024.05.20 04:54 GuessMyMiddleName Ebay not allowing me to use my "spendable funds" to make a purchase (I'm enrolled)

I got a confirmation email from ebay that I am in enrolled in the spendable funds program. I have about $750 from my own sales sitting in ebay's spendable funds.
I tried to make a purchase, and when it asked me for payment, ONLY paypal or credit/debit card was an option. No option to use these funds that ebay is spamming me to use constantly. Finally there is something I want to buy, and I can't use them.
Is this a glitch? Ebay HAS been have some weird issues lately.
Any ideas of why this could happen? It's as good as cash, so I don't see why a buyer wouldn't accept it. So what other reason could cause this? Thanks in advance.
EDIT: If I purchase at asking price, I get the option. If I put in a best offer, when I go to select payment, the option to use the funds is not there.

2024.05.20 04:54 kathal_ki_sabzi Need advice for repaying credit card debt

Hi I am 23M who has a debt of close to 40k. I earn around 35k but due to family problem need to give 20k to my parents. I'm somewhat of a spendthrift and want to mend my ways by repaying this debt and also doing some SIP.
I also don't have any savings because until previous month I had to give 30k to my family and had to manage my expenses in 5k which resulted in building up of the credit card debt.

2024.05.20 04:50 alexinwonderland212 Cashing out stock - Payoff Debt or Reinvest?

I had some stock options from a company I worked at a few years ago I finally want to cash out. Depending on what the market is like when I sell them I stand to net between 10,000-12,000. Once I cash out I’m not sure what’s best to do with it - either reinvest in something conservative like an index fund or pay down debt. I have two majors debts. 1. Student Loans $20,000ish at 4% interest 2. Loan $20,152.52 at 9.5% interest (the A/C in my house broke and it was very expensive)
Other important info - - my salary is $95kish - age 30 - I live in my family home so I don’t pay rent. (Taking in the loan for the A/C is my major financial contribution. My family also agreed if they ever sell the house I’ll get the $20k back as my “equity”) - I have a small emergency fund (about $3k but would like it to be about $10-$15k ideally) -My 401k is in pretty good shape. - No credit card debt
Would you use the money to invest or pay off debt in my situation?

2024.05.20 04:50 Sad-Establishment422 Graduated

4 years and I have finally graduated from navy federals secured card. About 2 years ago I applied for their go rewards card and got approved for a 3k credit limit but my secured card wouldn’t. I actually got a new card for my secured because it was expiring this year. I woke up to check if my pay from my job hit and noticed 500 in my checking. I went to my secured and it was no longer a 500 credit limit instead a 3k credit limit. So just for those waiting and losing hope. Don’t. It will happen.

2024.05.20 04:50 stalexa Financially insecure mom wants me to buy her house

I'm 26F and my mom is a single mother and immigrant from a Carribbean country. My dad died when I was young so it has always been the two of us. She's your typical immigrant parent, conservative, sheltering, expects me to live at home till I get married, doesn't have any personal identity outside of being a mother. On top of that she has never been financially stable. She has always worked my whole life but in various part time jobs and while she did everything she could to pay the bills in the house while I was growing up, there was no room for anything extra. I had to take out loans to go to college, I had to buy my own car, and I just graduated from law school. While I'm really happy to have achieved such a goal for myself, my mom now expects me to save her from her financial woes and buy her house from her (which has fallen into total disrepair) so that I essentially become her landlord and not the bank. This stresses me out though because she is always getting onto me about applying for a loan for her so I can buy the house but I don't feel financially secure at all yet. I literally just graduated and as you all with poor parents know- I feel like I'm constantly running trying to keep my head afloat.
I feel like I'm living paycheck to paycheck even with a big salary because I have to pay my loans back and all my other bills. I live alone currently but I am now planning to move back home even though it will really impact my mental health (because my mom is so suffocating) just because I want to start saving as much as possible. I am good about paying my bills on time but I just feel like I never have enough money to take care of myself and now her but also enjoy life (take a vacation, treat myself to something nice, etc. And don't get me wrong I want to take care of my mom because I love her, but I feel like she doesn't understand 100k is not the same as it was back in the day. And yes I have this big degree but that also came with big loans. And because I had no one to teach me financial literacy I am trying to navigate this all by myself, trying to find a financial advisor, build credit, etc.
It's just so frustrating because she's always getting on to me about how I need to save or why I use my credit card and it makes me so angry because other kids didn't have to go through this! I have a credit card because it helped supplement me throughout college because I didn't get an allowance like all my other friends. And on top of that, I don't even have a high limit and I pay it every month! You are only concerned with my finances because you see it as your way out when you don't even stop to consider how TIRED I am of always having to take care of myself like this. I don't even feel like I'm starting my young adult life at level 1 I feel like I'm 10 steps behind where I should be. And I feel like since I'm almost 30 the responsibilities are only going to increase and I am never going to get a chance to just breathe and feel financially stable because women are pressured to start a family by a certain time as well. Anyway, I just wanted to vent because I feel extremely overwhelmed and I have no idea where my life is going because I'm consumed with responsibilities while I watch my friends who came from families of means get to really live their lives for themselves.

2024.05.20 04:49 saint-sonder 28yr Old Convicted Felon Bitcoin Made Me a Millionaire

Im 28m, and heard about Bitcoin in 2018 shortly after I got out of prison. At the time I was getting my life back together I was saving money and I had 1 bitcoin at one time. I sold it to at some point because I thought I wanted to be a real estate investor as it was an option I could pursue with my criminal background limiting my job opportunities.
I didn't know the first thing about bitcoin or crypto, I even conflated Bitcoin with Coinbase and dismissed it as a scam when I had trouble selling it on Coinbase and withdrawing my money. I started investing in real estate buying single family and renting them out. Covid hit and tenants stopped paying rent, luckily for me I got them to sign up for rental assistance and it was peak of market and ended up selling all my properties 2021. So I ended up with a bunch of cash and needed to do something with it. I told myself I wanted to double my money each year for the next 10 years to become a millionaire by 35.
I looked up everything, every strategy, every investment, history, economics, federal reserve, just went down a rabbit hole and somehow came back to bitcoin. It just offered me the best opportunity and I see it having the best probability of being a very valuable asset 20-30 years from now. I live very modest, have a family, and I really just need the most flexibility and liberty in my life and bitcoin offers me the best tool for the lifestyle I want.
In 2022 I went all in on Bitcoin and have been DCAing since. The past two years I have doubled my net-worth each year. I have a second home in MX, my primary residence, and Bitcoin. 2 beater cars, use my credit cards on a daily, I make about $75k a year between full time job and side businesses. I would be open to diversifying my self custody into BTC ETFs and companies just cause the only threat I see to bitcoin is not being able to exchange for my local currency. However unlikely I think it will be, in 20 years from now it might be throw away money for me I hope.

2024.05.20 04:43 nonnstopp_uudioo I get Udio songs when I listen to headaches

As if in a foggy blur, I remember hearing about Udio a few weeks ago, a competitor to Suno. I wasn't all that familiar with Suno, but I had heard the song "I ONLY ATE THREE CHEESEBURGERS" which had me perplexed ---- ------ no ffffkfin way that an AI could have written a song this good!
Well, the part I was not familiar with was that you can use HUMAN-WRITTEN lyrics to fill out your composition, and that if the human-generated lyrics are witty and clever then the audio engine will sing them and add common pop-song chord changes like dancing around the Circle Of Fifths, and flittering between vi, IV and ii before jumping to V then back to I.
Anyway, started playing with Udio. FANTASTIC!!! I made a musical with 100 songs in it. Absolutely nobody cared except my mom, and Q8Q from Australia.
And as if in another foggy blur, suddenly this Udio that I was BETA-TESTING became SUBSCRIPTION ONLY and you had to pay for credits. And Inpainting only works if you attach your Credit Card information.
Well if you ask me, that jump to monetization happened WAY TOO FAST. And now around these parts, all the posts are people bemoaning that they blew through 250 credits trying to make a song, fighting with Moderation Errors all the way ((if you don't like the word TWATTED, just TELL me that you don't! Don't just throw up an utterly useless "MODERATION ERROR screen!!)), and end up having spent five bucks to make something unsatisfying.

Anyway, feel free to discuss this. Did the jump to monetization happen too soon?

2024.05.20 04:38 relativelyneutral Didn’t erase Mac mini before Apple Store trade in

Traded in my Mac mini today. I logged out of everything (iCloud, Dropbox, internet accounts), deleted all the files, and checked that there are no longer any passwords, credit cards, history, etc saved on the computer, but didn’t wipe/reset it before bringing it to Apple Store for trade in. (Because I remember last time I wiped/reset my iPhone before doing in store trade in, and they told me I’m not supposed to do that before going. It took a long time for them to figure out how to run the diagnostic tests.) So today I told them I haven’t erased the disk yet, but they said “I’m not gonna turn this on to check.” Then they just took it inside. Should I call them and tell them to erase it? Or will Apple erase it for me?

2024.05.20 04:35 Internet_Mediocre The thought is becoming overwhelming

I (25M) have been thinking about ending my life more and more lately. Last year I had 4 immediate family members die and a month ago my gf of 4 years left me. And when you sprinkle in everyday misery’s like my car breaking and my debit/credit card information being stolen the stress is too much. I’m thousands of miles from anyone. And I have no friends to hold me as I cry. The thought of killing myself calms me down and brings me bliss. I keep thinking about it more and more. It’s easier thinking about killing myself instead of thinking about all my mistakes, my dead family, or why my gf left me. I prefer thinking about ending it instead. I hope it’s peaceful.

2024.05.20 04:35 Deep-fried-meme Should I reapply for my first credit card after being denied?

I'm applying for the discover student it card and have been rejected twice, probably because of my expenses for when I'll be living in college and not have enough income. These were both a little over a week ago on my birthday. However, I know people who have just put 0 for expenses and they get approved. I would want to try this to get my card already but my mom says applying and repeatedly getting denied hurts my score, even though I don't have a card. It's been about 10 days since I've been denied, should I apply again with a 0 for expenses to get the card or is this a bad idea? Would this hurt my score even though I have no credit history and just turned 18?

2024.05.20 04:35 _ashxn Places to sell Noise Cancelling Headphones

Hi folks.
I’m trying to sell my Sony XM4s but it’s been hard. My asking price is $300 but I can negotiate to lower. On FB Marketplace, I had a guy who was interested in them but then he had to back out due to something coming up. On Kijiji, I almost had a guy scam me because he asked me to get him a $300 gift card on top of him paying me $300 for the headphones, as he was trying to get a gift for his sister after he comes back from the States as a surprise gift.
I’m trying to sell these headphones as I’ve done everything I can, plus I’m trying to pay off my credit card for my concert tickets. Are there any places that would buy headphones?

2024.05.20 04:28 JasonKaz1898 Is it worth it to refinance?

Hi All,
I bought a 2022 Kia Forte in Spetember of 2022 at ~12%. My monthly payment is $535 on a 5 year loan. At time of purchase, my credit wasn't the best as I had no open credit cards. Since then, I have opened 2 credit cards and according to my reports, my score has gone up 90+ points. Would it be worthwhile for me to refinance to try and get a lower monthly payment? If so, should I go through my original dealer, my credit union, or the bank the loan is through? How can I start the process of doing this? Thank you in advance! I live in Michigan if that helps.
