On Meibomian Gland Probing and its potential dangers,
I frequently see people posting about their meibomian gland probing worries. Top professionals usually charge exponentially more than others. Given that the procedure is intuitively terrifying, many end up spending +10k USD on the treatment. Finding myself in the exact same spot, I decided to investigate the literature on meibomian probing and see if I could find a significant percentage of adverse effects.
I could not. Meibomian Gland Probing, in +95% of the currently available studies, seems to have an essentially zero percent rate of adverse effects. Furthermore, after reviewing hundreds of MGP-related posts on FB groups and subreddits, I could not find more than two separated cases complaining of mild adverse effects. On his 2020 book, MGP creator Steven Maskin explains that meibomian glands are actually pretty flexible and resilient (I am too lazy to quote and rest assured that his explanation is more thorough.) But you don't have to trust Maskin nor read all the papers I read. It's suficcient for you to internalize that this 2020 extensive review presenting a rather unoptimistic view on the benefits of MGP (which, as Maskin points out in his response00059-X/fulltext?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR2dm9gsk83qGQN26eJjuehtfFviJXAv80bLQelB0xF07wsmRuVokPw8s-M_aem_AeO1Ec08N8TPhAgtHOgKRmy85LokKwXJcClJTdyfdX54WYxT3HZpcp-dkR0kEpIokmLV5wJoNR-rkZ1qF3v90FAe), may have been motivated by the authors' financial ties with the IPL and LipiFlow companies ), found "no reported major postoperative complications" in the FOURTEEN studies they analyzed.
Let that sink in. In fourteen studies with, let's say, an average of twenty patients that in turn had an average of three lids probed (t= 840 lids probed) not A SINGLE significant postoperative complication was reported. None. Zero. "Oh," you must say. "So there are plenty of mild to moderate negative effects!" Nope. The review could not find any worth mentioning (and neither could I).
Let me finish by saying that I am aware of the many people promoting Maskin and his procedures on different outlets. Maskin minions, they sometimes call them. Just to clarify, I am not one of them. I live in Paraguay and started my research a week ago because I've decided that enough is enough and that I am fixing my condition. Also, I don't like to spend stupid money. I was personally going to spend hard-earned $3,000 to see Dr. Taji in Canada. Fear of significant gland damage or other adverse effects were the main deterrants preventing me from opting for cheaper options. After reviewing the studies, I think an adverse result is extremely, extremely unlikely.
Hopefully this information and very simple reasoning is useful to some of you. If you find a flaw in my post, please, point it out, so I can improve my thinking. Salute. And I hope we all get better.
P.S.: any fellow latinamerican sufferer who wants to travel to Brazil with me to get MGP? Two are better than one!

A brief guide to it in case you are endlessly digging through do’s and don’ts. (Based on what my psych told me & personal experience)
  1. You won’t feel better within a few days. It takes a bit of time for your body to get used to it. Hence you will bounce from days where you feel fantastic to the biggest loser on the planet. Give it time.
  2. Do not take grapefruit. This one’s an obvious one. Both are metabolized by your liver so basically what will happen is more sertaline goes into blood because the grapefruit will be blocking it’s job.
  3. Don’t drink alcohol. Another no brainer. Alcohol is a depressant so you will feel a 10x worse hangover. You have been warned.
  4. Monthly advice for the ladies: do. NOT. combine ibuprofen/ aspirin/ any drugs that are anticoagulants/ NSAIDs. You will bleed more and feel like your uterus is getting wrecked from all sides. Take paracetamol instead. (For those who have thrombosis-> follow the plan your physician has recommended.)
  5. Same goes for when you are sick. NSAIDs are a no go. If you have pain, fever-> paracetamol.
  6. limit your dose of sweets. The guts contain serotonin too so by eating too much sweets you will certainly be full of 💩. You have been warned.
  7. For those afraid of drinking caffeine: you absolutely can. One-two cups are fine. Anything over that is a 911 call for chest palpitations and shallow breathing.
  8. Note any side effects you may have. I for example experienced nightmares and then vivid dreams. The nightmares were related to combat while the vivid dreams were related to daily life activities. It may feel a bit of a trip but you will be fine. It usually goes away on it’s own. Sweaty palms, feeling hot, agitated, headsches, nausea, diarrhea.. all normal.
  9. Do NOT under any circumstance get off the meds completely. Although they do not cause any addiction as opioids do, this would be a very dumb thing to do from your part. You would basically get “discontinuation syndrome”. -> feeling severely ill. Taping off is the way.
  10. Take the dose your psychiatrist has prescribed you.

NOTE: I drafted this before reddit slashed its allowable post size and decided it was unpublishable at that point. A friend strongly recommended I post whatever reddit will allow and if people wanted to see more, I could post more of it. So here's the first segment of it.
Therapeutic memory reconsolidation has a dark side. It's not something typically discussed outside of the coffee rooms of the lab-rat and clinical-practices sets, where the tedium of the current work occasionally gives rise to darkly humorous dystopian speculations.
This dark side is not simply the stuff of mad-science speculation and dark fantasy. In fact, its existence predates even the discovery of the MR process itself. And it has already resulted in mild-to-catastrophic negative consequences for hundreds of thousands of people. (Depending on your perspective, it's conceivable that the current victim count could be in the tens or even hundreds of millions ... we're notorious for undercounting casualties of previously-unrecognized catastrophes. Fair disclosure: I'm one of those casualties.) It's an aspect of MR that I believe is worth knowing about for anyone seeking to exploit MR in therapy either as a practitioner or as a client.
For almost as long as the transformation (i.e. MR) phenomenon has been recognized, there have been tales of sordid applications of this effect. Religious sects, particularly the charismatic ones, have been exploiting the MR phenomenon for thousands of years, typically labeling it as either divine healing or proof of faith. Not that the results aren't beneficial for the individual. In most cases they are. But reconsolidation is only a part of the whole process of restoring health to old psychic wounds. The inducement of therapeutic MR in an individual not ready for the experience can be among the most brutal tortures imaginable, but most of the harm that comes from misapplication of the MR phenomenon can be traced to opportunistic exploitation of the setup for, and aftermath of, the transformational experience, and it's my belief that most of this harm is done by individuals and/or groups with little or no sense of the risks involved in
Keith Raniere's NXIVM organization is probably the most widely-known example of a cult founded largely on a MR-consistent methodology bent to less-than-humane ends. It made national news for years in Canada based on allegations of financial wrongdoing and sexual scandals, its leader was indicted in the US in 2018 and was sentenced to 120 years, and in 2020, not one but *two* major exposé miniseries/docuseries aired on streaming services.

"The Vow", first to be released, was not a fun watch for me. Thirty years prior to this, I had been ensnared by another cult, closely affiliated with the Unity Church of Today in Warren, MI at that time. Both of these cults exploited phenomena surrounding therapeutic memory consolidation as their primary lures years before we even knew that MR had a scientific footing.
The two organizations had shockingly similar modi operandi. So similar, in fact, that I still suspect that NXIVM's founder might have gotten much of his basic training from CoT's Pavillon resort in Quebec, whose month-long "therapeutic retreat" programs were a clever and completely unabashed cult indoctrination program. Ok ... well ... nearly completely unabashed ... during the month that I attended, we were only told that we were being groomed for the cult on the third-to-last day, by which time they surely knew who was ripe for the picking and who wouldn't be swayed, and were pretty confident of no open objection to such an announcement.
I want to make clear that this is not a word of exaggeration. The head of the "clinic" literally told us that if it felt to any of us like we were being recruited for a cult, he assured us that yes, we were. Nobody gasped, nobody even giggled. And as if to prove that this wasn't just dark humor, the director assured us that it was all fair play on their part since his was "the only cult that matters". That is exactly how confident Pavillon were of their methods. (Or at least they were in mid-1989 ... Pavillon appears to have vanished in the mists of history. Not every great cult idea grows up to make it to the big leagues.)
Neither "Seduced" or "The Vow" actually get under the hood and explain the psychology underlying the cult's success, let alone in context of therapeutic memory reconsolidation. In fact, I'm pretty sure that MR was never mentioned in either series. But right from the introductory/demo sessions presented in the first episode of "The Vow", most readers of this sub will instantly recognize that NXIVM leveraged the benefits and relative simplicity of MR-consistent transformational therapies to capture the attention, loyalty, and ultimately the wealth of prospective cult members.
But that's not nearly enough to lead us to a real understanding of how this happens. If either of these series' had been able to achieve that, this post could effctively end here. It's my belief that those of us who are consumers of MR-consistent services, or who work with consumers, do need this understanding. When the mechanics of the seduction are understood, it doesn't just help us to identify how malignant influences were brought to bear on potential victims, or provide us with a degree of immunity from those influences. It can also help us to better identify and relate to individuals who may be particularly vulnerable to these influences, and not just in therapy cults, but in all cult-like cultural groups, and get a better sense of how we can best communicate with people living under less-than-virtuous influence.
Fortunately, it doesn't appear to be all that difficult to acquire this understanding. Simply knowing basic MR theory and therapeutic application takes you halfway to mastery in a world still largely ignorant of how transformative change works. And the successes of Pavillon and NXIVM, coming as they did well before the general public even knew that MR was a "thing", pretty much proves it. But solving the remainder of the problem appears to involve first understanding how the application of MR-consistent methods could lead to cult exploitation in the first place.
MR-consistent transformational phenomena were relatively common knowledge back as far as the early 1980s in new-age/psychotherapy circles, and were even well-understood by certain inner-circle dwellers. And it was clear at least a decade earlier that certain disciplines practiced in a certain way were capable of producing remarkable therapeutic effects, even if no one could quite explain how or why. All Raniere and Pavillon needed to do was to refine techniques already known to be highly effective and they could reproduce those results. Which is exactly what happened, and this gave these two groups a powerful enticement, or a free sample product if you prefer, for people interested in living better, happier lives. Whatever else they did that we would likely view as objectionable or even evil, they both figured out how to get people to transformational moments in ways which were a lot easier than Erhard Seminars Training (EST), more efficient than religious or mystical practices (Transcendental Meditation, kundalini yoga, visionquesting, etc.), and less exclusive/expensive than a stay at Esalen or a year or two of the "talking cure".
So whatever we may think/feel about their methods, credit where due: they knew a good thing when they saw it and they got the transformational part right. So how did techniques which we rely upon to free us from exploitation by our own nervous systems become tools for THEIR exploitation? On the surface it seems like using MR to coerce and enslave people makes about as silly as trying to poison someone with multivitamins. But there's a clever logic to it, and to understand this we need to look beyond the bounds of MR and the transformational phenomenon, and at how the entire transformation process is managed. (And there's the operative word: managed, not facilitated.
We know MR as the process that underlies transformation. But transformation isn't healing, but only a subprocess within a greater restoration process. Healing doesn't usually even end the process, either. Following transformation, stress must be managed until the subject's next full sleep cycle or treatment efficacy is substantially impaired. Even beyond that, the structure of post-traumatic adaptation leaves the individual vulnerable to retraumatization in the wake of treatment, meaning that in perhaps a majority of cases, the triggers which activate PTS symptoms need to be kept to a

Had a hand I played last night that would love some thoughts on. 1/2 nlhe full ring ~250 effective. Button straddle, hero in BB with TdTs opens to 20, button calls. Flop 7d7x3d, hero cbets 35 button calls. Turn 2s hero continues for $75 villain calls. River Qc hero checks, villain jams for $140 remaining, hero calls hoping to bluff catch a missed flush draw. Villain turns over 33 for the flopped full house.
Obviously tough to win when your opponent flops the full house. But from a GTO standpoint, thinking that it may be better to bet small on this flop with a lot of our range to push equity advantage on a board villain is unlikely to connect with. We have effective nut advantage with overpairs. villain may float some A high as well as lower pocket pairs. Then, if villain calls, size up on the turn with a more polarized range?
I feel like the large flop bet folds out a lot of villains range that we beat. we only get calls from hands that are dominating us or fairly high equity flush draws. As played on the flop maybe have to check turn as TT is maybe not sufficiently polarized to continue large on turn?
Anyway, would love some input here, especially if anyone is able to plug this into a solver.

However, I didn’t want to leave the topic of progressive inflation control without talking about an unheralded homegrown economist, John H.G Pierson. One of the economists involved in crafting the 1946 Employment Act, Pierson was one of the full employment planners I covered in chapter 4 of my book. Much like his committee staff colleague Leon Keyserling, Pierson also put forward a plan for post-war full employment as part of the Pabst Blue Ribbon competition in 1945.
While Pierson’s proposal included both provisions for New Deal-style direct job creation (following the proposals of the National Resources Planning Board) and counter-cyclical economic planning borrowed from Keynes’ General Theory, the truly distinctive component of Pierson’s work was a more consumerist approach to full employment.
Rather than solely relying on government spending and the multiplier effect to stimulate demand, Pierson wanted the government to influence the activity of the American consumer through counter-cyclical systems of taxation and subsidy. The centerpiece of this design was a national sales tax whose rate would be constantly adjusted by the Federal government in order to promote consumption; Pierson explicitly stated that this rate should be allowed to go into the negatives if necessary, thus bringing prices down (and thus consumption up) by main force.

2024.05.18 18:38 max1mum-effort New Triangle LN01a speakers seem to buzz at certain frequencies

Hello fellow audiophiles, I need your help! I recently bought a powered pair of Triangle LN01a speakers in order to use them with my turntable oand the TV after I move in a couple of months. Currently I use them as desktop speakers with my PC (optical) and initially I was totally impressed by them. I have played them for 15 hours at least at moderately loud volume. I don't think I have ever maxed out the volume, but I am not sure.
Recently I started listening to the latest Metallica album (which is surpisingly good). After some playthroughs I made a dreaded realisation. While playing my current favourite song 'You must burn' , I noticed that the sound quality has changed a lot: I hear a buzzing sound (I can describe it as blowing or resonating) at certain low end frequencies during the intro riff ( I think around 100-150 hz but could be wrong ). It is extremely annoying, it sounds louder from the rest of the music, it gets worse at loud volume, it diasappears at very low volume, and I can hear it in some other songs too or while gaming, although it seems to last very shortly to bother me in most cases. It is there regardless of how I play the song: Spotify, flac file, or via bluetooth from my mobile's spotify.
The reason I make the post is mainly to understand how to properly describe the sound I hear and what's most likely the problem. I intend to contact Triangle eventually to ask for a replacement if there isn't an easy fix. After all they have an excellent 2+1 year warranty for their active speakers. Below is the link of the recorded sample using my phone. I can hear the noise while playing the recorded file using headphones. It isn't there when played using the phones' speakers. The file is an mp3 on my google drive account. I couldn't attach it directly to the post. The sound from the file sounds even worse if I play it via the speakers.

edit1: Could this be an example of 'bass boom' effect because of the room? My office is a fairly small room (about 2.0 x 3.8m). I tried moving the speakers even further from the wall but it didn't make any difference.
edit2: Ok so I think i figured out the problem: Thank god my speakers seem to be fine. I played the song using my bluetooth speaker UE Boom 2 at loud volume. I moved it near the wall my speakers are in front of. And voila, the same boomy sound is there. It is definitely a resonation issue. I will make a final test by moving the speakers to the much larger living room and see if the sound disappears. I'd be happy to hear what's your opinion is on the issue. Hope that other people with the same problem find the post useful.

I see a lot of posts of lonely ppl who want friends. As someone who has consciously taught myself social skills, now makes friends easily, and has maintained deep bonds over decades, I feel qualified to share what I’ve learned. I’ll warn you, tough love and even tougher truths are part of this. If you find yourself arguing, but don’t have friends yourself, ask yourself where that resistance comes from. Don’t direct it at me; take some time to journal and sit with it. This is part of the journey.
I have a lot of info so I’m breaking this into parts. I’m naturally pedantic and have a lot to share. I will do my best to keep it as concentrated as possible but be warned: this will be wordy with no TLDR.
The first part of making friends starts with your physical self. Humans are primarily visual creatures(all genders) and how we present ourselves is the first invitation or hurdle to interacting with ppl.
  1. Hygiene: daily showering is a non-negotiable. You can rot on your own time in your own house. If you are going to be a part of society you need to wrangle your body smells so that ppl aren’t offended by your very presence. This is the first tough truth: no one wants to be friends with a smelly person. Use soap and a washcloth, stay away from those plastic nightmare loofahs. Wash every nook, cranny, divet, and crevices. Wash your booty hole and genitals. Change your washcloth daily (wash a$$ last) or use a separate one for your butt. Wash your sheets, pillowcases, towels, robes, and floor mat once a week. Wear deodorant (no, body sprays aren’t deodorant) daily. Some of us are extra stinky due to “stress sweat” aka apocrine glands and this is a common physical side effect of an overtaxed nervous system. Extra stinky ppl need to touch up their armpits with a disinfectant wipe and reapplication of deodorant; lunch time is great for this. Brush your teeth upon waking, after drinking coffee, and after eating. No, gum and mouthwash are only temporary, they aren’t good enough. You still have bad breath. Drinking coffee wo brushing in the morning leads to that extra stinky breath that smells like death. Don’t be that person. Floss once a day. When washing hair, use shampoo and focus on the scalp more than the hair. If you can’t feel the lather on every centimeter, add more to those spots or you will still stink. Most ppl need to wash it twice if they don’t shampoo everyday. Shorter hair, thinning hair, and fine hair need to be washed more often, sometimes daily. We can smell your scalp from far away. Keep your nails trimmed or neatly filed. I’ve had to school multiple men in my life on how raggedy their nails are. Don’t just grow them out until they break off. Keep them short unless you have the time and desire to file and shape them at least once a week. Wash your hands every time you use the bathroom. I don’t care if you didn’t touch yourself, that’s not the point. Ppl notice. Also wash your hands when you’re alone and at home, seriously it’s not that hard. How are you going to want friendship if you don’t value them enough to keep them safe and sanitary? Trim your toenails and stay abreast of how your feet smell. If you have smelly feet you probably have athletes foot. Sprays are an easy way to treat this. If you still have stinky feet after this, keep a change of socks with you so if you go to a no shoes house, you aren’t making ppl sick. Wash inner clothes like shirts and underwear after every wear. Sweat shirts and jeans can often be worn a few times before needing to be washed but smell the armpits and ass, and check for stains before you put them on.
Don’t proceed further until you can adhere to these standards at least when you’re in public. If you’re in a depression and can’t maintain these, stay at home until you can. If you don’t have the energy to bathe and be clean, you don’t have the energy for friends.
  1. Grooming. This about looking neat and together. Humans are visual creatures, we judge others based on their looks. I’m not talking skinny/fat, ugly/pretty. I mean that if you look like your life is rough, ppl aren’t going to want to get involved with that. We have our own issues and struggles, we don’t want to add someone to our lives that looks like they are on the brink of a meltdown. Brush your hair and teeth before you leave the house. This is my bare minimum. Curly hair is different but my wavy hair needs to be brushed the same as straight. Combing is also acceptable. Keep an eye on your dandruff. If you have it, treat it. There are many otc options. At the very least shake it out and don’t wear dark colors until it’s fixed. Make sure you don’t have eye crusties, mouth corner goop, or boogers. If you’re showering these are usually not an issue but check for these a few times a day. I don’t iron my clothes but many ppl associate wrinkles with poor grooming. Consider getting a handheld steamer. I personally fold my clothes kon-marie style or hang them and that’s good enough for me. Keep your shoes clean. Lots of people are taught to judge other by the state of their shoes. Notice how many ppl look at your shoes the first time you meet. Wash the white laces regularly, polish and condition leather. Patent shoes are super hard to keep scuff free so avoid them if you are prone to scuffs or dragging your feet. My shoes come untied so I double knot my laces to avoid looking sloppy. Replace buttons and ask a dry cleaner to repair any holes or tears. Relegate worn out and stained clothes to lounge wear.
  2. Posture. Your posture says so much about you. A relaxed and tall posture says you’re confident and easy going. The type of person we all want to be friends with. Forward head means life has beaten you down. Rounded shoulders says you’ve been hurt but haven’t healed. Collapsed chest says you’ve given up. Lordosis means your core body and core self are weak. Stand with your feet an inch or two from the wall and stand naturally. Your head and most of your spine should touch. If it doesn’t you have work to do. You can’t just force yourself to stand up straight. Your muscles have stretched and atrophied to accommodate this unnatural stance, you will need to rehab your body over weeks and months to regain proper function. Research and watch videos on strengthening postural muscles. My fave that’s easy to explain: when you’re at the wall checking your posture, bend your knees slowly until you can press your spine and back of head into the wall. Stay there for a moment and feel it. That’s the proper position of your pelvis; posture comes from pelvic position not our chest, shoulders, or back. Now clench your ab muscles, they might be weak or non existent. These are the muscles that need to be strengthened. Hold those muscles tight and try to straighten your knees while maintaining that pelvic position. Breathe and hold for 30 seconds. If you can’t do 30 start with 10. Do this every time you go to the bathroom, not necessarily in the bathroom but by tying it to an inevitable part of your day you have a better chance of being consistent.
  3. Body language. Like posture, we communicate much more than we realize with our bodies. How we walk, sit, fidget, etc telegraphs nonverbal messages to those around us. Many ppl are very dissociated with their daily movements. Take some time to notice how you walk. Do you drag your feet? How would someone describe your walk? Do you schlep, shuffle, scurry? Or do you glide, prance, or stalk? I love to drag my feet and do this at home in my slippers. But in public I am more conscious of how I walk. This is much harder for me to explain. My main tip is to watch out for small, jerky, fast movments, like fidgeting and scurrying. These are prey movements and relegate us to an undesirable social standing: prey. Think of how a mouse moves: small, jerky quick movements. Now think of a panther. Every movement is intentional and controlled, smooth, slow. Go on walks if you are able bodied and start to notice how you move. Notice how those around you move. Which ones seem confident to you and which ones are off putting. Same with sitting. Do your best to sit up straight rather than completely melting into the chair. Don’t “throw” yourself onto someone’s furniture, use your legs to lower yourself down. When listening do your best to keep movements to a minimum. Breathing slowly and deep helps with this. I use my hands to talk when I’m excited and don’t see this as a problem.
  4. Eye contact. Eye contact is very important but it also varies by culture. This will be regarding western/American culture. Eye contact used to be difficult for me. I now have an engaged and sometimes intense gaze. It’s more important to maintain eye contact when listening, not as important when talking. You don’t have to laser focus, break your gaze regularly to take in the other person’s movements and body language, look briefly at other parts of their face, lower your gaze, glance at the room. But don’t stray for too long, wandering gaze makes ppl feel like you aren’t listening and ppl don’t want to engage with bad listeners. Don’t look at breasts or genitals. Once you’re comfortable with someone you can look away much more or sometimes even look at other things while you listen. But in the beginning you are building trust.
Extra credit: cultivate your personal style. This is optional but supremely helpful. A pleasing physical appearance can garner compliments which is a great way to start conversations. It can also connect us with like minded individuals or show our place in a culture or subculture. Hair is one of the best ways to customize your appearance: cut, color, and style are all options. If you choose long hair, make sure you understand that long hair is a hobby; it takes tons of time and effort to maintain. Not to mention the research and trial and error to find products. Especially men who want long hair, make sure you are up for keeping it clean and neat. You will need to still keep it trimmed, learn to part your hair, learn to tie it back neatly, keep it from looking greasy, etc. if it’s thinning, it’s more flattering to keep it short. if you have curls you will need to learn different techniques that take even more time and effort. Same with vivid colors: they take so much time and money to maintain. Go for it if you have taken time to understand the upkeep.
For clothing, any style works. If you have zero idea how to build a wardrobe choose one dark neutral (black, charcoal grey, navy, or chocolate brown), choose one light neutral (white, ivory, light grey, beige), and one medium neutral (olive green, khaki, camel, mid grey, rust, beige). Only choose one of each and preferably ones that look nice on you. From now on only buy clothes in these shades. Focus on getting your basic covered before you choose colors: tshirts, sweaters, sweatshirts jeans, slacks, jacket, coat. There are so many options and it’s a great opportunity to get to know yourself. Do you like graphic Ts or plain? V neck or crew? Do you like sweatshirts that zip? Do you like hoods? For sweaters: turtlenecks, cardigans, pullovers, or quarter zips? Wool coats or puffers? Leather or denim jackets? Enjoy each detail you learn about yourself. Once your basics are covered, choose two colors. Then try to only get stuff in those colors. My pallet when I was blonde was: black, ivory, and beige with red or blush pink. Now that I’m my natural color it’s: navy, grey, ivory with sky blue or forest green. By putting limiting your colors, everything matches and you always look put together. Accessories are where your personality can really shine: loud sneakers, big belt buckles, unique watches, rings, necklaces, hats or caps, scarves, bags. There are so many ways to express yourself. Keep your accessories to your chosen colors at first. Once you have figured out your style and built up a wardrobe that works, you can add more colors and pizazz.

So in the next couple years or so, there's nothing STOPPING me from pursuing higher Academics, and using that to pivot off full-Tech. (Gods, am I kinda sick of it. It should be an auxillary thing I bring to the table; I wanna grow coord and comms as skills) PMP takes a couple years' worth of project mgmt; Psych/Comms/interpersonals are such a depthy thing and I have much to learn.
Goal is - (ahahah, the vision I have for myself in a couple years, I can't write down here. I'm still too shy. Journalling.)
But look into the most valuable certs and what I wanna be in two or four years. 🤔

Thanatos design sketch and height chart
Second slide is just a height chart for all the character redesigns I've doodled so far. I'll put their specific heights at the end of the post.
This isn't a plain redesign but more of a reconstruction based on the little I've seen of Thanatos in Lore so please bear with me
Thanatos was offered up to be in Hades' service from a young age
Centuries go by and Thanatos finds the soul of a child having been sent to the underworld, this soul in particular was not supposed to be there at all much less arrive so youngm the soul was broken and incredibly wounded but still capable of speech to an extent so the god of death would do something he had never once felt needed be done. He offered to heal the soul with his ownhe couldn't save the child but he did manage to protect what was left of the young soul's memories.
The child would then take an appearance similar to that of Thanatos but much younger for as long as the soul was meant to live on earth at which point it will become a shade and separate from the small body
Thanatos and the smaller Thanatos share memories and the occasional stray thought or 2. So now the god is effectively raising himself a second time but with the goal of giving Mini a full life in exchange for its life that was stolen away on earth.
Mini T's body acts as a reserve tank for a good portion of Thanatos' power but Mini isn't able to use any of that power
There was a 3rd union form I wanted to design but today was a bit of an artblock day
Tl:dr Thanatos was one person then used his own life force to give a child a second life since returning to the world of the living is no longer possible. So now this version of Thanatos is also raising what is effectively a younger version of himself with different memories. (opportunities for character development galore)

High-Z

Guitars are high impedance (high-Z) which mean 10,000+ Ohms. Everything else is not. This means whatever you plug a guitar into must be able to accept high-Z, so read the manual for the device. Some audio equipment has a high-Z switch that must be enabled when you plug in a guitar.
Equipment, like guitar pedals and guitar amplifiers are designed for high-Z on its input. If you want to plug a non-high-Z device, like a synthesizer, into one of these devices, you will need a reamp box. However, some guitar pedals accept both high-Z and low-Z on their input, in this case you can plug a synthesizer directly to the pedal without the need for a reamp box. Read the owner's manual for the pedal.
You can plug the output of a guitar pedal into a high-Z device like a guitar amp or another pedal, or even into a low-Z device like a mixer. That's because most modern guitar pedals support both high- and low- Z on their outputs.
Most modern audio equipment automatically adjusts for the different ohms and voltages of various equipment that you plug in, which means you don't have to match ohms unless you are attaching amplifiers to passive speakers.

Audio signal level

There are several different strengths of audio signal: very low-level microphone (0.001 volt), instrument level (0.1 volt), consumer line level (0.3 volt), and pro line level (1+ volt). Most modern equipment, such as mixers, are designed to automatically recognize and adjust for the signal level that they are receiving. Which means you don't have to worry about it unless your device has knobs and buttons specifically for the different levels. If your device does not have specific settings for levels, then you can plug anything in. Furthermore, mismatching levels is not the end of the world, and in many cases won't have any discernible impact.
The headphone jack on audio equipment such as synthesizers is less than 4 volts which means it is the equivalent of a line level signal and therefore can be used just like the mono and stereo output jacks. In other words you can plug an instrument cable from the headphone jack into your effects pedals and mixers.
Some keyboards have a weaker signal compared to others. You don't need to do anything special, just run it into a DI box and from there to the mixer and turn up the gain.

Gain and Preamp

The function of the preamp is the same as that of the gain/trim. Its purpose is to match the input voltage. Many devices with a preamp will automatically disengage the preamp if the input signal is strong enough to where it is not needed. Which means you can plug anything into a preamp. However some preamps are only designed for microphone level, so read the manual to confirm the behavior.
Setting the gain/trim is one of the most important things to do because it ensures the cleanest, strongest possible signal. To set the gain, start from 0 and turn it up until it starts to register the signal. It will start to flash when this happens.

DI box

Instrument cables are unbalanced 1/4" TS cables. Connect these to your guitars, keyboards, and pedals.
A DI box is designed to convert a high- or low-Z instrument or line level signal into a balanced low-Z signal transmitted on an XLR cable. There's a couple advantages to using a DI box plus XLR cable for the final run to the soundboard:

General Guidelines

  1. Connect XLR cables directly from the microphones to the Mic preamp on the soundboard
  2. Use a DI box with XLR cables to connect synthesizers to the soundboard
  3. Use a DI box with XLR cables to connect the Line (Through) Outs of Guitar and Bass Amps to the soundboard

Ground Loop Hum

Ground loop hum happens when you have devices connected to different grounds that are separated by a distance because there is a small voltage potential across the distance and when this potential is amplified it becomes hum. To fix it plug all devices into the same outlet. This will fix most ground hum problems. There is no danger of overloading the circuit, see my Power post for a discussion of this. Additionally feel free to use the Ground Lift button that is available on certain audio devices like DI boxes - this makes sure the reference line for the audio signal isn't tied to earth. Also make sure the high-Z switch is disabled for devices that are not high-Z. Additionally try to use shielded equipment whose shield is grounded to earth.

Introduction

The main purpose of this guide will be to help unlock the golden dice for those of you who feel less confident about tackling honour mode. This is designed to be a path of least resistance, so we won’t be experiencing everything this game has to offer. It’s also worth noting that instead of focusing on min-maxing for damage; we prioritise safe & consistent damage. We don’t need to be respeccing characters often, if at all, and we won’t be relying on strength elixirs. My girlfriend (u/-babyjanehudson) and I put this together as we’ve beaten honour mode a 5 times now without any failed attempts, we were even in the first 800 people to beat it which is kinda cool! Here’s how we did it. First starting with our builds, then a little general advice and finally just a list of some general Do’s & Don’ts. Apologies for the wall of text.

As you’ve probably noticed, yes almost everybody in the party takes a dip in fighter for access to action surge & shield proficiency. I learned this habit from Colby like everything else I know. He’s the Bob Ross of DnD builds and well worth your time.

General Advice

The most important factor in honour mode is “meta knowledge”, This means things like: knowing how to enter each combat effectively, making sure everyone is in a good position before starting, knowing exactly which enemies/spells you’ll face during that fight and ensuring you always take the enemy by surprise to gain a free turn. Being properly prepared is better than any build. As for difficulty, Act 1 is always going to be your biggest challenge so use plenty of rests and pick your fights carefully. For this guide I also recommend using your bard to persuade the act 2 bosses into committing suicide.

That is why I try to make as much impact on my faces’ lives as possible. After all, they have done so much for me. It is the least I can do. Unlike them, I need not fear what people think of me. So I can be brave where they are weak. For I will just be someone else tomorrow.
Born in Russia to the Grand Duke Nikolai Kravinoff, Dmitri Nikolaievich Smerdyakov was treated like trash by his noble father and his working class mother. Young Dmitri was approached one day by Gustav Fiers, who was impressed by the boy's impressions and paid for a trip to Karl Fiers academy. There, Dmitri would learn to master the arts of disguise, vocal impression and infiltration, becoming the Chameleon upon his graduation.
He'd move to America and use his talents to pull off high-scale burglary, working for any group that could afford his fee, including the Communist party, Hydra or the Green Goblin. His elicit activity brought him into conflict with the Hulk, Iron Man and most often Spider-Man, all of whom had to act with great caution when the Chameleon was in town. After all, which one of them could tell if that unassuming civilian or their own ally was preparing to stab them in the back?
Dmitri has some mental hangups over his time with the Kravinoffs. He’s managed to repress the memories and considered himself good friends with his half-brother Kraven. In reality, he was more like a whipping boy and slave to the Hunter, and when he has to wrestle with those feelings, he can mentally revert to that scared little boy with no strong sense of identity or independence. But when he’s able to move past these feelings, the Chameleon has proved himself as a powerful, manipulative force, finding his place as temporary Crime Master of New York and member of the Sinister Six.

During one of Dmitri’s mental breaks, he began to believe that he was his deceased half-brother, Kraven the Hunter. So exact was the Chameleon’s performance that he moved and fought with the hunter’s skill and agility. This was an extreme fringe case and there are no other examples of a disguise altering Chameleon's capabilities like this. Physical and skill-related feats from this period will be marked with [KH].

3.0. THE THIRD BUDDHIST COUNCIL:

Venerable Moggaliputta Tissa Thera led the 3rd Buddhist Council of Theravada School. That was not a schism as the outsiders were not the true members of the Sangha. However, the king supported them like the members of the Sangha.
Because it helped promote tolerance and mutual respect, Asoka desired that people should be well-learned (bahu sruta) in the good doctrines (kalanagama) of other people's religions. [The Edicts of King Asokaan, English rendering by Ven. S. Dhammika © 1994]
King Asoka was supporting everyone who claimed he belonged to the Dhamma-Vinaya community (the Sangha) established by the Sakyamuni. However, they did not join the Dhamma-Vinaya community, nor know, nor care the Buddha's teaching.
Venerable Moggaliputta Tissa Thera determined that "the Vibhajjavāda alone contained the teaching of the Buddha."
Rest of the monks who were true believers, told about the doctrine of the Buddha, that it was Vibhajjavāda i.e. the religion of analytical reasoning. This, the Commentary says, refers only to occasions when a major dispute in the Community has been settled (such as a schism—see Chapter 21), and not to occasions when the uposatha has been suspended for minor reasons. Thus there are two occasions on which the bhikkhus are allowed to meet for the uposatha: the last day of the lunar fortnight and the day for reestablishing unity.
The public uposatha is open to everyone, including non-Buddhists. The participants are expected to observe a set of uposatha sīla, either 8, 9 or 10 (aṭṭha-sīla, navanga-sīla or dasa-sīla).

Devadatta caused the first schism on the basic of Vinaya rules. The Vajjian monks caused the second schism on the same ground. The Sangha established by the Sakyamuni was attacked several times from within.

Understanding the nature of the Teachings of the Buddha and the Sangha, Venerable Moggaliputta Tissa Thera described them as Vibhajjavādis. That is Theravada, the doctrine of the arahants. Dhamma paṭisambhidā-ñāṇa is the ability to analytically and in detail explain the nature of reality.
The Buddha as an awakened sage is neither a theorist nor a philosopher. Theravada is not philosophy. The Buddha is an arahant.
The Buddha's disciples, who are also arahants, know the Four Noble Truths through their own observation and release from delusion. Knowing modern views and modern science is not their task. They are not philosophers and philosophical scholars. They do not claim to possess omniscience.

3.1. Kaccānagotta Sutta (Right View)

Sarvāstivāda

Sarvāstivāda means "those who claim that everything exists" [...] the Sarvāstivādins suggest that "everything," that is all conditioned factors (dharma), "exist" and can exert causal efficacy in the three time periods of the past, present, and future. The main Sarvāstivādi concept 'all dhamma exist in all three times' was familiar to the Buddha, not because He taught it, but because He rejected it.
'Everything exists': That is one extreme. 'Everything doesn't exist': That is a second extreme. Avoiding these two extremes, the Tathagata teaches the Dhamma via the middle: From ignorance as a requisite condition come fabrications (saṅkhārā). From fabrications as a requisite condition comes consciousness. [Kaccānagotta Sutta (SN 12:15) (Thanissaro Bhikkhu)]
Somehow, that concept, despite the Buddha's famous rejection, came to associate with Buddhism once again, not because the Buddha taught it, but the outsiders made it as if the Buddha accepted it.
We, too, must reject the notion of 'everything exists' just the way the Buddha rejected it. The rejection is also present in the paṭicca samuppāda, as He explains:
Imagine two sheaves of reeds the one leaning against the other. In the same way consciousness depends on named-shapes, named shapes depend on consciousness [...] birth depends on existing, aging and death depend on birth — the coming into existence of upset, grief, lamentation, pain and misery. [...] If, however, friend, I were to remove one of those sheaves of reeds one would fall down if I were to remove the other the other would fall down. — SN 5.67 [Dependant Uprising, Downbound Dependent Own-making (Dependent Origination, Conditioned Genesis, The Causal Law),
The Paṭicca Samuppāda provides two sheaves of reeds that support each other, but one of them can be removed to topple them both. When they are toppled, we cannot say everything exists. The Buddha's Dhamma, which shows us the four Paramattha, is nothing like a "dharma theory" that was created by the Sarvāstivādis.
Kaccānagotta Sutta continues:
[The Buddha:] By & large, Kaccayana, this world is supported by (takes as its object) a polarity, that of existence & non-existence. But when one sees the origination of the world as it actually is with right discernment, 'non-existence' with reference to the world does not occur to one. When one sees the cessation of the world as it actually is with right discernment, 'existence' with reference to the world does not occur to one. 3.2. Vibhajyavāda & The Present Dhamma

vibhajyavāda; A school of thought doctrinally opposed to the Sarvāstitvāda. holds that the present dharma-s alone exist. However, some among them like the followers of the Kāśyapīya, concede that the past karma that have not yet given fruit (adatta-phala) can also be said to exist.
Here is a part of Magganga Dipani by Ledi Sayadaw:
kammassakata samma-ditthi Sabbesatta kammadayada, kamayoni, kammabandhu kammappatisarana yam kammam karissanti kalyanam va papakam va tassadayada bhavissanti. Sabbe satta kammassaka: There exist such properties as elephants, horses, vehicles, cattle, fields, buildings, gold, silver, jewels, etc. Those properties can be said to belong to us in the present existence before we pass away. But when we pass away those properties do not accompany us beyond death. They are like properties which we borrow for some time for our use. They are liable to destruction during the present existence. As those properties which beings possess do not accompany them to their new existences, they cannot be claimed as properties belonging to those beings. The Buddha therefore said, 'sabbe satta kammassaka.' The only property of all beings that accompanies them is their own volitional action... [Ledi Sayadaw explains the entire thing here.]

Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta

Furthermore, bhikkhus, this is the dukkha ariya·sacca: jāti is dukkha, jarā is dukkha (sickness is dukkha) maraṇa is dukkha, association with what is disliked is dukkha, dissociation from what is liked is dukkha, not to get what one wants is dukkha; in short, the five upādāna'k'khandhas are dukkha.

Devadaha Sutta (the Law of Kamma)

[MN 101] “‘So, friends, it seems that you don’t know that you existed in the past, and that you did not not exist… you don’t know what is the abandoning of unskillful qualities and the attainment of skillful qualities in the here & now. That being the case, it is not proper for you to assert that, “Whatever a person experiences—pleasure, pain, or neither pleasure nor pain—all is caused by what was done in the past. Thus, with the destruction of old [kamma] through asceticism, and with the non-doing of new actions, there will be no flow into the future. With no flow into the future, there is the ending of [kamma]. With the ending of [kamma], the ending of [dukkha]. With the ending of [dukkha], the ending of feeling. With the ending of feeling, all [dukkha] will be exhausted.” (Thanissaro Bhikkhu)
A Vibhajjavādi cannot accept Sarvāstivāda's notion of the three times:
all dharmas exist in the past, present and future, the "three times".
Past and future exist at this present moment implies they merge with the present time. Yesterday and tomorrow are today and they are so every day without meaning one can live yesterday and tomorrow today. If one's injury healed yesterday, both injury and healing exist today, right now. For three times doctrine (Sarvāstivāda), dead people are dead, alive and exist at all stages and every moment of time. Even though one has reborn countless times, one still lives in the past lives and also the future lives. One has lived the past infinity and the future infinity. As the future has also been lived, there is no way to change the future, so what will happen will happen — according to the God one believes. After one passes away, one will relive the same life again and again countless times in the past and the future. Someone who will become a Buddha is already a Buddha. Someone who will go to hell is already in hell while living this life as a human.
Rational and irrational people, including the physicists, philosophers, writers and filmmakers, took the doctrine of three times seriously and imagined time machines.
Assuming kamma (action) exists constantly (past, present and future) constitutes sassata ditthi (eternalism). Assuming actions and their effects do not exist constitutes ahetukaditthi (view of uncausedness) — see the 8th question on page181 of this book: Milindapanha: kammaphalaatthibhavapanha. King Milinda asked many questions about kamma. The answers of wisemen and philosophers of the time did not satisfy the king. He got the answers only when he met Venerable Nagasena; see A SEARCH FOR THE LEARNED (TALENT HUNT), pages12-16.
Venerable Nagasena explained how the future is yet to exist:
Can anyone point out the fruits that a tree has not yet produced, saying: “Here they are, there they are”?” [See 3.2. QUESTION REGARDING VALIDITY OF FRUIT AND RESULT OF WHOLESOME AND UNWHOLESOME]
Real is the present; the past is gone; the future is yet to exist. That is the knowledge of the arahants.
Every action has the process of existence: birth, decay and death. Understanding anicca can abandon sakkaya ditthi.
Sakkaya ditthi is a sense with which one perceives a nama-rupa complex as me, you, he, she, it, cat, dog and so on.

Right View according to the Sakyamuni

The Buddha and His disciples visited Vesāli, the capital of the Vajjians, several times, and many arahants were made there. Saccaka, who the Buddha addressed as Aggivessana, was a famous Jain teacher of the Licchavi rājās. They accompanied Saccaka when he went to challenge the Buddha. There a famous debate on anattavada occurred, as recorded in the famous Cula-Saccaka Sutta.
[The Buddha asked,] “Well, Aggivessana, when you say that [rūpa] is self, do you have power over that [rūpa]. Can you have your [rūpa] be any different than it is?” Saccaka could not answer and remained silent [...] “Released they are endowed with unsurpassed Right View, unsurpassed practice, and unsurpassed release. Released, they honor and respect the Tathagata in this manner: The Buddha teaches the Dhamma for awakening (to Four Noble Truths), the Buddha teaches the Dhamma to develop restraint, the Buddha teaches the Dhamma for developing tranquility, the Buddha teaches the Dhamma for ending samsara (ignorance). The Buddha teaches the Dhamma for total unbinding.” (John Haspel).

3.3. QUESTION REGARDING VALIDITY OF FRUIT AND RESULT OF WHOLESOME AND UNWHOLESOME

King Milinda said: “If, O Venerable Nagasena, with the (present) Mind-body-complex (nama-rupa) either wholesome or unwholesome kammical actions were performed where will the fruit and result of those actions (kamma) be located?” “The fruit and result of kammical actions tend to follow the Mind-body-complex, O King, like a shadow that never leaves it.” (So replied the Elder.) “Now what do you think, O King? Can any one point out the fruits which a tree has not yet produced, saying: “Here they are, there they are”?” (So asked the Elder.) “Not possible it is, O Venerable One.” (So replied the king.)

An action was done by a doer, not someone else. However, the doer and the action (kamma) can exist only during the action is being done, not before or after. The doer happens to exist because of doing. The doer and doing exists at the same time. Action and doer don't exist outside doing or before or after the action is done.
Saying there is no doer falls into ahetukavada and probably uccedavada, too, as 'no doer' means 'nobody is responsible' to take the consequences. When the action is done, it becomes a seed that grows into a tree (as nama-rupa process) according to the paticcasamuppada law. The fruiting or consequences of volition (kamma/seed) will appear on this tree.
Of Causal Genesis [Mahathera Ledi Sayadaw (contrinues)]
Paticcasamuppada is Causal Genesis or Dependent Origination (Process). The key words are depdendent and process. The process depends on the action done by the doer, which no longer exists by the next stage of the process. For example, a sound comes out after the drummer hit a drum with a drumstick. The birth of the sound is dependent on the hitting process, but the sound itself is independent to be in the law of impermanence—no butterfly-effect here.
That is how things exist, but not "everything exists".
