Really weird dream. I dreamt I was at the opera and my ex was there with his siblings, cousins, mostly the men.
He looked handsome at times but also very stone like from a distance in an ugly way. He's elegant in real life and had quite a regal air in the dream. As did I.
I got up to go to the bathroom and neither of us greeted the other. I felt kind of neutral about it though I did sort of wish it didn't have to be that way.
For context we were not quite official but he got a girlfriend after a trip away. And he blocked me. I hadn't been trying to win him back though...I was just trying to be measured and not make it measured but there was something unrelated to our relationship we needed to handle before closing off. Let's say a business transaction (I'm a little superstitious about full disclosure but I hope that conveys what I mean).
So in the dream I thought I'd see his girlfriend but she was nowhere and when I walked past him I wanted to ask, almost about to he kind of just smiled.
I have been praying a lot (to Chi...life force) to give me answers and this was maybe the first dream that felt solid. After I woke this morning I wrote a text I never sent or planned to send about the ways he hurt me. I felt less tense after.
Thoughts? I definitely still love him. More than I did before we fought. But I also am seeking out new connections. And want him to be happy. Those were my last words to him last we spoke.

Moscow's favorite archbishop

REPORTER (1in): While the protest leaders attempt to deny the Russian trace, Moscow is not hiding its strong support for Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan. Famous Russian media manager Aram Gabrelyanov recently wrote that Russian special services' ranking officials, tasked with Armenia-related activities, are impressed by Galstanyan.
What's noteworthy is that last year the same Aram Gabrelyanov wrote about the need to form a new opposition group led by a clergy member, and he even named Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan as the candidate.
This casts doubt on the spontaneous nature of Galstanyan's involvement in the protests. Gabrelyanov also mentioned a similar situation in Chechnya and that the "Chechen ethnos was saved by Haji Kadyrov". It appears the KGB has not changed its modus operandi.
The famous Kremlin ideologist Alexander Dugin, a known anti-Armenian, declared that the ongoing protests in Armenia and Georgia are polar opposites. In Georgia the protesters are Western agents, while in Armenia it's the patriots, Dugin said.

Context in Thursday digest. The coordinates of one house with its barn, one trailer-style shop, and one garage were found to be located on the Azeri side. The owners will receive compensation from the government. The residents of the house will move out by July 24 to allow border guards to be stationed in the area.
The owner says this house was built sometime in 1972-1974 and that during the ongoing clarifications of coordinates, the government informed him that the Soviet records contained an error [leading to him receiving a cadastre certificate in independent Armenia]. This house was targeted and burned down by Azeris during the war in 1990s. The resident purchased it in 2005.
In related news. Kirants farmers will regain access to 25 hectares of land that was used as a buffer zone since 1990s.

MIRZOYAN: This year we celebrate the 75th anniversary of our Organization. The Council of Europe remains one of the most important international organizations in protection of human rights and the rule of law.
As we navigate through challenging times, where the threshold for violation of these basic principles is alarmingly high, it is imperative that we recommit ourselves to the values that have guided this institution.
Unfortunately, that is not the case for all the member states not only in the context of internal democratic institutions but also in their relations with other states. Humanitarian developments have unfolded in the geographic area of the Council of Europe, particularly in South Caucasus.
In September 2023, after 9 months of blockade, the world witnessed the forcible displacement of the indigenous Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of Azerbaijan’s military attack on the region, as documented by the Commissioner for Human Rights after her fact-finding visit in October 2023.
With the help of the international community, the Armenian Government has taken necessary measures to meet the short-term needs of the refugees. Another pressing humanitarian issue remains the issue of the release of all Armenian prisoners of war and civilians illegally detained in Azerbaijan.
Along with this, we should also note the positive developments. In April, Armenia and Azerbaijan finally started the delimitation process based on the 1991 Alma-Ata declaration, which was welcomed by many countries and organizations, including the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.

Avinyan visited the office of Wilmotte & Associés Architectes and met with Jean-Michel Wilmotte.
Wilmotte recently traveled to Yerevan to inspect Cascade and the Noragyugh quarter of the city. He presented two potential projects on how to complete the Cascade. Mayor Avinyan will soon present them to the public.
Wilmotte also presented a project seeking to renovate the Noragyugh quarter, located near the center of Yerevan. The project is aimed at solving some of the city’s decades-long issues.

TIGRAN AVINYAN: The Cascade project will be presented to the public soon. The second program is the reconstruction of Noragyugh. It will essentially become the "new center" of Yerevan. It's a very large project, an entirely new district with elements borrowed from the Tamanyan style. This is going to be one of the most important projects in Yerevan.
WILMOTTE: It's important to finish the construction of Cascade with simple, modest, but at the same time interesting solutions. We propose building a music hall and a gallery inside the facility. I think this will be a wonderful plan for Yerevan. I will be happy to bring my ideas to Yerevan. The city has a circular shape and it's interesting that Noragyugh will also be circular. It will be a modern district and become a symbol of the capital.

Finance Minister Vahe Hovhannisyan provides details about the EBRD forum that was held in Yerevan this year

REPORTER: This was an international-level meeting with over 3,000 delegates and officials from 74 countries. Why was it held in Yerevan this year?
MINISTER: In 2019 PM Pashinyan met the President of EBRD and suggested holding the forum in Yerevan in 2021. EBRD sent a delegation to assess Armenia's potential to see if we are capable of organizing such a large event. It was approved, but COVID delayed it.
REPORTER: Does organizing it in Armenia bring any benefits?
MINISTER: Of course. It's important to hold as many international forums as possile to place Armenia on the map. The quality of the event organization is also important. Many colleagues told us that this was at an "unprecedented" level and they were pleased that Armenia was able to show that it's a great place for investments and that we are moving forward. The forum was split into two parts: meetings by EBRD officials and ministers to draft plans and hold votes, and meetings with the private sector.
REPORTER: Examples of important events...
MINISTER: Tens of panel discussions and meetings. A very good event was held at the TUMO center attended by the EBRD leader; everyone was very impressed by the students. The EBRD elected a president and worked on its strategy for the coming years. Many panel discussions for digitization, green energy, etc. There were discussions about logistics routes. They highlighted that Crossroads of Peace and Armenia must be part of the regional transport routes. There are active talks around the Middle Corridor that connects Europe to China. Armenia found itself as part of these programs.
REPORTER: There were also publications about North-South's Sisian-Kajaran road and the construction of a new logistics center in Syunik.
MINISTER: This year we launched the construction of part of the southern section of North-South. There is going to be a very big tunnel as well. We involved our important partners: EBRD, ADB, EIB, and the French government. Together we are going to build this 60 km section. A loan agreement was signed with EBRD worth €236 million. Similar agreements will be signed with the other partners for other sections. This is part of the Crossroads of Peace as well. Regarding the construction of a new center in Syunik, it will be for customs and logistics. It will serve the entire cargo traffic, faster and more accessible.
REPORTER: But the EBRD president said they plan to invest €500 million this year. So what about the rest of the funds?
MINISTER: The remaining part will be invested in the form of agreements signed with the private sector, not the government. They will cooperate with private banks and the TUMO center. These loans will help Nagorno-Karabakh refugees, SMEs, etc.
REPORTER: So we will have a relatively cheaper loan portfolio?
MINISTER: Usually yes. The international organizations will ensure liquidity for the banks. It will be possible to provide these resources at a cheaper price to private companies. The loans will be insured. In other words, EBRD guarantees to pay the bank if the business doesn't repay the debt to the bank.
REPORTER: Overall, how will this forum's results affect Armenia's economy?
MINISTER: Holding it in Armenia has greatly improved Armenia's reputation as a place for private investments. Many private investors visited Yerevan and saw how well the events were organized; they were presented with various programs. It's an opportunity to attract new investors and increase demand for bonds issued by Armenia. The President of EBRD informed the whole world that they are investing in Armenia and that others should join as well to take advantage of the opportunity. I expect to see new investors within the next 1-2 years.
REPORTER: Archbishop Galstanyan organized protests right next to this forum, "directed" at this forum. Did this help or harm in any way?
MINISTER: When we learned about their plan to hold the protest nearby, the EBRD leadership and various ministers became concerned for safety. There were even talks about not attending the opening ceremony in the opera building. We had to ask the police to provide additional safety measures. I do not understand why they decided to hold the protest simultaneously with this forum.
REPORTER: Were you ever able to figure out why? [here comes Petros, he is about to start...]
MINISTER: No. If they disagree with certain government decisions perhaps interfering with this forum was not the best way to express it. Harming the organization of this forum is the same as harming Armenia. However, the protest played into our hands because the guests noted the democratic nature of Armenia where everyone has the right to express themselves.
REPORTER: The opposition says there were so many police officers brought there, that it amounted to repressions. Maybe the guests thought Armenia is a "police state"?
MINISTER: No. That morning we met the EBRD secretary who was concerned and didn't know what to do. We reassured them that additional safety measures would be implemented. They thanked us, and I'd like to thank our police officers for preventing problems. Even many guests who gathered at the opera backyard had no idea there were protests not far away.

‘The Opera House of service stations’: Heritage plan for West Gate canopies

The sail canopies over the service stations at the foot of the West Gate Bridge are set to be protected by a heritage overlay after they were found to be of local significance.
The service station canopies are the latest in a line of humble structures to be considered for heritage protection following the listing of a brutalist 1970s Carlton parking lot and an electrical substation in Brunswick.
A heritage review has found the canopies of the two service stations, on the eastern end of the West Gate Bridge, meet the threshold for local significance, and the sites have been recommended for inclusion within the heritage overlay in Melbourne’s planning scheme.
“The stations’ canopies are identified as being of local rarity, aesthetic and technical significance to the City of Melbourne for the unique design and engineering of the canopies’ tensile membranes and structures,” the review found.
The heritage significance only applies to the canopies, not the service stations themselves.
The service stations were built in 1989 at a cost of $5.5 million and, in a report at the time, Shell described them as “the Opera House among Australian service stations”.
The Sidney Myer Music Bowl is the other best-known example of a tensile membrane structure in Melbourne.
The stations are owned by VicRoads and held in a long-term lease by United Petroleum, which operates them as petrol stations and Pie Face outlets.
City of Melbourne officers have recommended that the council approve the West Gate service stations’ heritage review at its meeting on Tuesday night and provide recommendations for permanent heritage controls.
Deputy Lord Mayor Nicholas Reece said they were probably Melbourne’s most famous service stations and known to every Melburnian.
“They are certainly iconic and well-known structures in Melbourne that are very much seen as the gateway for people arriving in the city from the western suburbs or are a common stopover for people heading to the west coast of the state on holidays,” he said.
Reece said the council meeting was just the next step on the heritage listing process and that there would be a further opportunity for the public and landowners to make formal submissions.
“Look, I understand there’ll be some people who would say, ‘What’s so special about a couple of white sails over a servo?’, [but] there’ll be others who know them as Melbourne’s most iconic service stations and a real gateway location for the city, which has been well known to Melburnians for almost 40 years,” he said. “Amongst architecture types, it is really a thing.”
Royal Historical Society of Victoria chair Charles Sowerwine said a heritage overlay might well be merited if the service station canopies were significant in terms of technological innovation or aesthetics.
Sowerwine said increasingly diverse structures were being listed for heritage protection. In the Fisherman’s Bend precinct, there were important remnants of General Motors Holden and the Australian automotive industry, which were set to be preserved and incorporated into the University of Melbourne’s campus there.
“We’re increasingly seeking to ensure that heritage means that we have places people can see in their daily lives of Australia’s past not only our great architecture and domestic architecture, but also industrial and things that are run-of-the-mill,” he said.
“Service stations played a big role in the past, maybe it won’t be a service station when we are all electric, but it may be a restaurant and maybe the canopies can be included in a way that enhances their visibility to remind people of the important automotive past that made the city what it is.”
Sowerwine said it was critical that when a building was listed for heritage protection that protection was adhered to.
“Local heritage overlays are terribly weak and inadequate, it’s certainly not going to be over-protected,” he said. “The problem that we have is that the heritage overlay is often ignored or not paid sufficient attention to when the next stage of life for a building or site comes up.”

Music Theory in the Plural (MTitP) will be an open-source web resource composed of music theoretical source documents from languages and communities that have been historically underrepresented in music studies. As a publishing mechanism, the project endeavors to make accessible peer-reviewed translations of music theoretical documents from diverse sociocultural, geographic, and historical settings and to bring these sources into conversation with music theories from other times and places through invited scholarly commentaries. We seek to include source materials beyond the conventional written publication—including unpublished archived texts, ethnographic interviews, and oral histories—in order to capaciously reimagine how musical sound has been construed across different cultural contexts.
Moreover, the project will support a public, moderated Global Forum where users can interact and collaboratively analyze translated source materials across linguistic barriers with the aid of real-time translation AI. We imagine these threaded discussions in multiple user languages becoming themselves new layers to the living tradition of global music theory. The Global Forum will also map new and existing translated sources and commentaries in multiple network views, allowing users to visualize and productively navigate between sources through their geographic, temporal, and conceptual connections.

On The One and Pachanga productions will be involved in community outreach and utilizing our resources to help those in need. This analysis also comes from Cults and Nonconventional Religious Groups: A Collection of Outstanding Dissertations and Monographs, "Shakubuku: A Study of the Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist Movement in America, 1960-1975", David A. Snow, 1993, pp. 175-177 - it's a section within the analysis here about how the SGI's "discussion meetings" were carefully planned and choreographed sales pitch performances aimed at convincing any "guests" to convert. I thought this part about the carefully structured "experiences" deserved its own post:

In addition to the general supportive role, members are provided with instructions regarding the more specific role activity. That is, they are coached as to how to give explanations of what NSA [former name of SGI-USA] is all about, to lead songs, and to give testimonies. Regarding the latter, for example, members are reminded to respond to the emcee's request for experiences with great alacrity and enthusiasm by thrusting their hands in the air in a vigorous manner and yelling out "hi."

Actually, it's "Hai!", which means "Yes/Okay/I'll do it" in Japanese.

And if called upon, they are reminded to attend to the five major points or the "five S's" of giving a good experience.

That "coaching" is done before the live performance at the "discussion meeting", of course, not reminded within that performance context. That would break the illusion, as you can imagine.

The first point is Shakubuku. Remember, the guests have absolutely no understanding of this practice or any NSA terminology. Always talk to the guests and not to the members. The sole purpose of an experience is to make the guests curious enough to join ... Don't use Buddhist terms and names the guests won't understand...
Point number two is story. Make sure an experience is just that - something which happened to you and which you either changed into a benefit or changed an aspect of your life-condition through chanting. Basically , an experience should be structured as
(a) I had a problem or I was satisfied [sic] with my life and

That's obviously a typo; it should be either "I wasn't satisfied with my life" or "I was dissatisfied with my life", as confirmed by part (b):

(b) then I chanted, solved the problem or changed that aspect of my life which I wasn't satisfied with...
Make sure that you stress that chanting was the ingredient which changed those aspects of your life. Otherwise, the guests won't be able to connect just how chanting and a person's problems relate.
The third point to keep in mind is simplicity. Make each point of the story simple and to the point. Don't clutter the issue with unnecessary details. Try to be as brief as possible.
The fourth point is that of a seeking mind. What this means is that the person giving an experience should try to find out what type of experience the leader wants to have conveyed to the guests that will most benefit them.

Clearly, this is all about crafting the most persuasive sales pitch, not about honestly and authentically communicating anything real.

We're not saying that there is a "one" type of experience that is sought, but experiences have to be geared to the guests at the meeting. A middle-aged person is definitely going to have hard time relating to the change in values of a college student... The point is, make sure you are perceptive enough to give the type of experience which the guests at the meeting can relate to best.

Keeping in mind that no one knows for certain WHO these "guests" will be - this sort of "adjustment" in the details has to be made on the fly, which demonstrates the inauthenticity of the "experience" performance. But the culties are supposed to make it appear "authentic":

The final point is one of the most important - sincerity ... Even if your experience isn't that spectacular or full of content, the guests can relate to a person' [sic] sincere way of giving the experience...

The "5 S's" section is footnoted as coming from:

"The Five S's of Giving a Good Experience," World Tribune (September 11, 1974). Also, see the NSA Quarterly (Winter, 1975), p. 13; and the World Tribune (October 25, 1974).

It was obviously a structured thing that was explicitly taught (indoctrinated).

These five pointers on how to construct and give a "good" experience are mentioned repeatedly in the movement's literature and by its leaders. Furthermore, members can learn how to construct testimonies in accordance with these instructions by simply watching and listening to other members, and especially core converts, when giving their respective experiences.

You can probably surmise that after a while, these "experiences" will all start to show the same standardized structure; this will be accepted within the cult (because that's the goal), but the guests won't realize just how structured it is - and the focus on making it as manipulative as possible.

Indeed, rank-and-file members and new converts are often told to watch and listen to how so-and-so gives an experience.

That's true - I remember that.

It should thus come as no surprise that the testimonies given at these meetings, or wherever, are usually structured in accordance with the above pointers or instructions. And when they are not, the violators are usually pulled aside after the meeting and provided with corrective suggestions. At the end of several meetings, for example, I overheard the district chief reprimanding and re-instructing members regarding the unsuitable testimonies they had given earlier in the evening. This might actually be my second attempt at doing this? Or third, I don't even know. Regardless, my biggest problem with Revelation is that the unit distribution is terrible - not only does it take forever for you to start actually getting units, the vast majority of Nohrian units you get show up too late and underleveled to be particularly usable or have time to build supports with anybody without grinding. Fortunately, it's quite easy to rewrite Rev! The story is such a random mess of things that just kinda happen that you can't exactly ruin it with a rewrite, you just make it different. I've kept every single chapter intact except for Chapters 16 and 17 - those have been squashed into one so I can fit in a new Chapter 8 that briefly visits Nohr. Otherwise everything else has been preserved for simplicity.

Chapter 7 Recruits - Gunter, Odin, Selena
Corrin Azura and Servant 1 enter Valla as usual, except this time they meet up with Gunter as soon as the chapter starts. As you explore the map you find Odin and Selena, who reveal they ditched their retainers the moment they learned of what Corrin had done. Unfortunately Laslow had to stay behind it would make the unit distribution a bit too crowded here they wanted someone to stay behind and keep tabs on Nohr, and Xander has him on a tight leash. Odin and Selena are fully committed to help Corrin defeat Anankos, although they admit they have no idea how to actually go about this. Unlike in vanilla Rev, Nohr is suggested as the best place to start - Corrin's got a few Nohrians with them already, and they might not be welcome in Hoshido. Unbeknownst to the party however, Kaze and Rinkah witnessed their exit from the spring in Hoshido when they left Valla.
Chapter 8 Recruits - Kaze Rinkah Charlotte Benny [Nyx]
Venturing into a quiet part of the Hoshido/Nohr border, the group are spotted by Nohrian soldiers. They learn that Corrin and all who associate with them have been branded as traitors, so they must fight. Kaze and Rinkah reveal themselves, having secretly followed the party for a while, and save the party. Benny and Charlotte are present here as recruitable units, both recruitable by Corrin. After the battle, Nyx joins because... Uhh... (why does nyx even join in conquest?) She can go basically anywhere, she may as well go here.
Chapter 9 Recruits - [Sakura Subaki Hana]
Corrin and co. deem Nohr a bust, but they're not sure about Hoshido either. They decide it might be best to try some of the neutral tribes in Hoshido, and make their way to the Wind Tribe village. They are accosted by Hoshidan soldiers near Fort Jinja led by Yukimura, and must fight. Sakura emerges from Fort Jinja once the chapter is complete to stop the conflict, and ends up joining the group like she does in vanilla.
Chapter 10 Recruits - Setsuna Azama [Hayato]
All the wind tribe stuff happens as usual (there's no rinkah recruit here to bail them out this time but she didn't need to do that in br so i don't see why she should here?). But this time, Setsuna and Azama show up. They are very unhelpful when explaining Hinoka's whereabouts (setsuna because she's dumb, azama on purpose), but you eventually figure that Hinoka left to seek the power of the Rainbow Sage and left her retainers behind in case Corrin comes back (and also because they are useless). They help you fight the Wind Tribe, and you get Hayato after.
Chapter 11 Recruits - Elise Arthur Effie [Takumi Oboro Hinata]
The group makes their way to the neutral kingdom of Izumo. Bizarrely, they find that Elise herself is a guest - she fled Nohr to look for Corrin, and her retainers were forced to follow. But when the group learns that Zola has replaced Izana and is planning on killing the captive Takumi, the group turns against him. Takumi and his retainers join your group as usual.
Chapter 12 Recruits - Saizo Orochi Reina [Kagero]
This chapter is the exact same, except imagine that Orochi isn't underleveled and starts with a Calamity Gate and doesn't die on turn 1. Corrin goes to Ninja land, fights Kotaro and befriends Saizo and frees Kagero.
Chapter 13 Recruits - [Camilla Beruka]
Same as before, but this time with fun dialogue if Selena fights her former allies. Flora could also join here if Yukimura was made playable? Presumably he would join when you build the Fire Orb instead.
Chapter 14 Recruits - Kaden Keaton [Laslow Peri]
Mostly the same as before. Show up to Opera land, find beastmen and the two armies fighting. At the end of the map, Laslow tries once again to convince Xander. He seemingly fails, but Peri is sympathetic, resulting in Xander angrily declaring the two of them to be traitors and tells them to go join the traitor army since they are no use to him any more. Xander however is more convinced than he is letting on, and is doing this because he too believes what they are saying but cannot bring himself to turn against Garon.
Chapter 15 Recruits - Silas [Niles]
Same as before, but with no recruitment necessary since you already got Benny and Charlotte. After completing the map, Niles appears to tell you that Leo has gone to visit the Rainbow Sage, and that you should come with him.
Chapter 16 Recruits - Leo Hinoka Shura
The group finds Leo and Hinoka at the foot of the Rainbow Sage's tower, where they both agree to join your party. Shura joins as normal.
Chapter 17 Recruits - Ryoma Scarlet Xander
I never liked the lava map anyway, so I think you can just ditch that one. Instead of joining with a big group of units to save you, Xander appears on the prep screen as an enemy unit but turns and heads towards your army the moment the chapter actually starts. Ryoma and Scarlet are present to begin with.
And there you have it! What do you think? Could I fudge the recruitment order to have anybody join a little earlier? Rather than rewrite the whole thing I just wanted to change the existing one to be less bad, and besides the addition of one new map (and the removal of another) this one manages that I think. The plot is probably more disjointed now if anything, but I don't really care about that.

The modernization of the series has yielded amazing benefits that make it feel like the definitive Homeworld experience unless you are looking to go back and experience the whole story for yourself. It isn't easy to make a sequel worth a decades-long wait, but Blackbird Interactive has managed to pull off just that.

Homeworld 3 leaves me in the strange position where I want to play more of it, but I’ve basically had my fill of the campaign, I’ve got no interest in PvP, and War Games mode is silly difficult in single player. It’s like having a set of really nice brushes but no canvas, so to speak. I guess this is probably where mods come in - the game is supposed to be launching with built in support and tools on day one. I get that "It’ll be great with mods" doesn’t come across as a ringing endorsement, but to reiterate: Homeworld 3 is a pretty good time in a very good sci-fi setting. I can’t recommend it wholeheartedly, but I’m also hoping it finds enough of an audience that it paves the way for a more experimental sequel or expansion in the future - and if you've been longing for 21 years for a followup to Homeworld 2, I can’t see you being too disappointed.

Unfortunately, the campaign’s story is a huge step down from previous installments. Missions, whether in the campaign or in multiplayer modes, are plagued by innumerable issues related to unit pathing, controls, and commands. It’s a disappointment that was 20 years in the making.

At the end of the day, Homeworld 3 sells a fantasy of being a genius fused into the machinery of a spaceship who has constant vision and perspective on a vast, 3D battlefield.
