--Why did you choose the Azuchi-Momoyama period as the setting for this work?
KARL: I chose it because it is a very rich period in history. It was a time of war and political maneuvering, a time of change from rural to urban areas, and also the birth of art. I also chose it because it was the start of the unification of Japan. It was a pivotal moment for Japan. Together, these elements provided an excellent canvas on which to tell the story.
--What kind of image do you have of the Azuchi-Momoyama period?
KARL: This was a time when the feudal lords of the warring states were fighting for power in the name of unifying the country, but it was also a struggle for control of trade. What we wanted to do with "Assassin's Creed Shadows" was to push stealth even further. We started this effort with the previous game, "Assassin's Creed Mirage," but we wanted to take it further with new features. Systems such as light and shadow, grappling ropes, belly crawling, and a variety of tools available in the game provide a new experience.
The gameplay is also enriched by two characters, Naoe, a shinobi, and Yasuke, a samurai. Players will explore and discover Japan through the eyes of Naoe, a local, and one non-Japanese outsider. --The "Assassin's Creed: Valhalla," released in 2020, is based on the theme of "Vikings" and has been a huge sales success. As a Japanese, I feel that from a global perspective, the Japanese "shinobi" theme is even more niche, but what is your current response?
KARL: I would like to talk about how it compares to "Viking" fantasy. Both shinobi and samurai are exciting and celebrated as fantasy with power, and are widely discussed in pop culture, and we are very much inspired by them.
Shinobi were on our radar from the beginning because we thought they fit well with the "Assassins" brand, but we felt that incorporating a powerful samurai would create two different gameplay experiences and give us the opportunity to tell the story from two different perspectives. We feel that this is a powerful motif that can compete with the "Viking" motif.
--How did you like the setting of Japan as a subject matter for the latest model?
KARL: I think it was perfect. For example, the "Global Illumination" technology allowed us to explore the response of light and shadow. Some consoles are still called "Baked GI", but by using dynamic lighting and the power of the new hardware, we were able to explore the creativity.
We are now able to express not only light and shadow, but also the dynamism of nature in greater detail. Naturally, since it is set in Japan, we have never dealt with so many trees, and thus so much data, in previous works in the series. We also needed more data to seamlessly move various things at the same time because of the seasonal changes. The latest models have allowed us to realize our vision, and our ambition for this film and for "Assassin's Creed" will continue.
--Assassin's Creed Mirage marks the 15th anniversary of the game. Can we consider this work as the next step forward for the next generation of "Assassin's Creed"?
KARL: You are absolutely right. Mirage" was a tribute to existing works, but this film is the first step into a new era. We are in the era of modern equipment. With the new generation of our engine "Anvil", plus the opportunity to create a new era by using the power of the latest consoles, we are able to do what we wanted to do with "Assassin's Creed Shadows".
With technologies such as global illumination and dynamism, we are now making the game we really wanted to make.
--What are the four pillars you are focusing on in the development of this game?
KARL: We are focusing on four pillars.
  • The first is to create an authentic and dynamic world.
  • Second is the story, introducing a new form of storytelling to "Assassin's Creed" by introducing two characters with different stories and perspectives.
  • Third, there are two different action sequences. Samurai and Shinobi each have their own training elements and unique weapons. For example, in castles, each has a different positioning that they excel at, which makes a big difference in how they play.

-- I understand that "Assassin's Creed Infinity" was announced at the previous Ubisoft Forward and that this title will be included in the game? Also, what is the development status of that game at ......?
KARL: "Assassin's Creed Infinity" is introduced as an Animus Hub (*a hub that will function in the future as an entry point for the series), which we will talk about at a later date.
--What is your message to your fans around the world and in Japan?
KARL: We are humbled that our dream of creating a game in this setting has come true. This is a setting that our fans have been anticipating for a long time, and for us it has been a wonderful experience to work on a game that we have always wanted to make.

--When did you start the development of this work?
JONATHAN: Development began about four years ago, and research into the time period in which the film is set began immediately. There were a number of cool subjects that brought us great characters and story plots. I had a gut feeling that this was going to be a very good game.
--Was the Azuchi-Momoyama period chosen as the period setting from the pre-development stage? Did you have an idea for a major point in Japanese history, such as the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate?
JONATHAN: I started from the beginning of my study of Japanese history, but I began reading with the feeling of a student. Following the Socratic principle, you took the attitude of knowing nothing. As I read on, I found some very interesting settings.
I focused on the Azuchi-Momoyama period because I felt it was an extremely important period for Japan. It was a time of warring states, the need to unify the country, and the need to defend itself against the growing influence of other countries.
It was a grand and complex period, and there are many stories that can be told from different angles. Among the heroes of the unification of Japan, Tokugawa Ieyasu, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Oda Nobunaga are best known among the outstanding characters in Japanese history.
Not only war, but also politics are involved, and they are moving toward the peace that will eventually come, with a good ending waiting somewhere in the middle. I strongly felt that this was a wonderful and interesting period that deserved to be featured.
It was also a time when the foundations of the arts were laid. Castle towns were built, the world changed, and people's relationships with each other and with art, as well as their inner lives, also changed. It was very interesting to explore this period, and I was strongly attracted to the characters who lived in this time.
-- Why did you choose the title "Shadows"?
CHARLES: From my point of view, there are two reasons. Shinobi hide in the shadows, so "Shadows" is of course inspired by that. In a way, this embraces the "Assassin" brand and shinobi.
There are other aspects to "Shadows" as well. There are "hidden things" in the game that must be discovered by the player, but they are hidden in the darkness in some way.
JONATHAN: Both characters are in a way connected to being shadowy heroes living in the underworld of this era. It's a cool title, if you can think of it this way.
--Why did you choose two main characters and two fighting styles? Also, what kind of combat action can the Shinobi and Samurai experience respectively?
JONATHAN: One of the reasons for the separation of the two styles is that from the beginning of development, we wanted to have two distinct and cool archetypes to play with: the samurai and the shinobi.
We also wanted to make sure that this fantasy was as close to reality and expectation as possible without being diluted. I also often felt the need to have two points of view in the development of the story, since history is rarely clearly black and white. The two protagonists provided interesting dynamics and perspectives on how to approach the game.
CHARLES: I think it is very interesting that in combat, both the samurai and the shinobi have special types of weapons. Therefore, the style of combat in this work is built on a more weapon-based approach.
There are weapons that only Samurai can use, and the same goes for Shinobi. The player can get a good feel for the two different fighting styles. And it is possible to switch between them.
--What weapons can Naoe and Yasuke use?
CHARLES: Both players have different types of weapons. For Naoe, we went for a more classic fantasy type shinobi. The chain scythe is a weapon that covers a wide area and can only be used by Naoe.
In addition, she also has a dagger used at close range, which can be combined with a hidden blade (Hidden Blade). Naoe can fight very quickly and efficiently with these.
On the other hand, Yasuke, who excels at overpowering with force, is given more types of weapons, some of which are firearms type weapons. They also have the typical samurai bow.
--Why did you choose to make the shinobi Naoe an original character and the samurai Yasuke a historical figure?
JONATHAN Even though they are well known in Japan, at least in North America, not much is known about farmers, what happened to them, and where the Shinobi came from.
So we decided to introduce a figure from Iga who is shrouded in mystery. We considered historical figures from the region, but we preferred a sense of mystery, so we came up with Naoe as someone who may or may not have actually existed.
As for Yasuke, from the beginning we thought that a story about the arrival of the Portuguese would be a very good way to tell the story of the crisis in Japan. The team liked the character Yasuke, and we thought we could use him to show the promise of discovering Japan.
We thought that if we started with a samurai already in Japanese society, he would be a very interesting and intriguing character, with concepts that we don't necessarily know. And it would also be interesting to see what happened to him. He starts out as a character who is already rooted in history, and we are curious to find out what happens to him.
I thought they would make a cool team, complementing each other in terms of storytelling, physique, and family background.
--What did you keep in mind when creating the scenario where the two main characters switch? What were some of the challenges?
JONATHAN: I wanted the audience to feel that "both are the main characters," but this was more complicated than it seems. Their stories overlap in places, but I wanted to make sure that as the game progresses, you gradually discover more and more about both characters. They have similar goals and motivations, but they are not 100% the same, which made it complicated and difficult to maintain their individual personalities.
Naturally, the quest can be played by either character. If a quest needs to be started by one character and completed by the other, the settings must accommodate both play styles. Thus, although it can be complicated, there are many opportunities to tell the story from one of the two perspectives.
Having two different points of view is a lot of fun, but there were some complications, such as having to use new technology in the conversation tools. There were some cool things, however. It is interesting that in the conversational scenes, the player decides which of the two protagonists speaks and they ask for different things. This is cool in a way.
CHARLES: Both characters are attacking the castle and at some point the player is asked if they want to continue with Yasuke or Naoe, both are interesting. At various points the player must make these choices.
The stories are independent, so if you want to know more about Naoe's or Yasuke's past, you can play as one character and delve into that character's story.
--Are there areas of action that differ, such as places that only Naoe, a shinobi, is allowed to enter?
JONATHAN: There are areas where both Naoe and Yasuke have different areas of activity. I can't go into details because there are a few surprises, but since Naoe can use a hooked rope, there are places that are almost exclusively accessible to her.
The world is designed to be enjoyed by both characters, and players can switch between the two at will.
Of course, if you want to reach the final point of the world or reach the summit through the ruins, then perhaps Naoe is the better choice. However, if you want to break through the fort head-on alone and open the way, Yasuke seems like a better choice. Of course, you can play with either character.
CHARLES: Each character also has specific actions. Naoe can hook the hooked rope to a specific spot and move like a pendulum, or hook the hook to a high spot and climb the rope to get to where she wants to go faster than Yasuke. However, Yasuke can use a shoulder bash to break down reinforced doors.
Yasuke can also perform parkour very efficiently in a more daring way. What can be felt when Yasuke performs parkour is how the crowd reacts. Because Yasuke is a samurai and exudes dignity as a superior class, the crowd reacts accordingly. Naoe, on the other hand, gives the impression of being more integrated into the world.
--Can you both use the Hidden Blade, Hawk's Eye, and other Assassin abilities?
CHARLES: Without spoiling anything, the traditional skills of the Assassins are mainly for Naoe. However, there is another mechanism called "Kantori" (tentative name) that can be used when you want to find an enemy or target person, and this can be used by both of them.
You can use free aim to look around, but you cannot see through walls. Yasuke can also be killed by stealth, but in a more direct and easier way. Even with stealth, there will be some sound, so it is a "stealth-like" approach.
JONATHAN: Kantori (tentative name) can be used to find many things in your current location. It is a very good guide for a certain area, but it does not take all the fun out of exploration. It is a good guide because you can learn a little more about where you want to go, but you are left with the surprise of discovering something.
-- Is there a skill tree that makes Naoe more combat-oriented or enhances Yasuke's stealth?
CHARLES: Both have skills that are more combat-oriented and stealth-oriented. Also, some equipment has effects such as increased resistance when attacked. We also offer perks that enhance your abilities in combat.
Naoe, enhanced to be more combat-oriented, has an advantage in melee combat compared to Naoe, enhanced to be more stealth-oriented. Both have a range, but cannot go in completely opposite directions. There is some overlap between the two, but we have made sure that the characteristics of each ability are properly felt.
--Please explain the skill system.
JONATHAN: Both characters share XP and level up together, but the rest of the system is a bit similar to that of "Assassin's Creed Odyssey".
XP and character abilities are available, weapons can be crafted to some degree, and various upgrades can be made as the game progresses. Weapons are not stand-alone, but for two, so each weapon has its own unique skill system. Players should not feel any discomfort, but this is a very different part of the game from the past.
CHARLES: There are two things that were very important to us in terms of skills.
First, we have to be very aware of archetypes. In Japan, there are distinct archetypes, such as the armor-clad samurai, the revolting monk, and the bandit, which are quite different. We try to make it clear to the player who is stronger, and we try to make that part of the leveling process as important as possible. Samurai are always stronger than bandits.
Secondly, player skill is added to the mix. The better you are at timing, reading attacks, understanding weapons, etc., the better you will be and the further ahead you will be.
--What is the volume of the map compared to past works? I would also like to know how you decided on the scale of this work.
JONATHAN: The biggest difference is the scale ratio. The mountains are not the actual size, but we wanted them to be true forests, consisting of trees of a certain size, so that you feel you are in a forest. To achieve this, we needed space.
We also decided to keep it close to a realistic scale, so we could feel the breath of many things. When we visited Japan and saw the castle, we were so glad we made this decision. Japanese castles are huge! Of course, we had seen pictures of castles before and thought they were big and magnificent, but when we saw them in person, they were astonishingly large.
And I wanted more space to explore the castle. Castles were built to be large battlegrounds, you know. You need space to build intricate walls for defense.
The overall scale of the map is similar to the size of the map in Origins. However, the scale ratio makes it feel more realistic. The open space leads to secluded areas throughout the game, which will be fun to explore. This sense of scale is a very interesting aspect of this film for us.
CHARLES: The story led us to choose which locations in Japan we would choose. The major events in Kyoto, around Osaka, and around Azuchi Castle took place in the same area, so we were able to focus on that.
JONATHAN: Of course, we had to choose a size that matched the game, but I think it was the perfect size for this story and type of game.
--Since the game is set in the Warring States period, is there a system that allows players to participate in battles?
JONATHAN: We see several battles in the story, and the battle at Iga is playable. There are other battles as well, but I can't talk about them right now. The game is set in the Warring States period, but it is not only about battles. It is a game that allows you to travel and discover that world.
--What challenges have you faced and what have you been able to achieve as a result?
JONATHAN: By making the big decision to go completely modern and demanding a very high level from the "Anvil" engine, we were able to increase the number of particles, create a more realistic atmosphere, and expand the graphical possibilities of the changing seasons.
This allowed us to work on a fresh new Assassin's Creed. This was a great opportunity for us to take a big leap forward in graphics.
CHARLES: Also, thanks to the new global illumination system, we were able to take advantage of light and shadow, which had a huge impact on the gameplay and stealth approach. For example, enemies became aware of our presence through our shadows, enemies gathered for warmth under a fire in the winter, or shadows through shoji screens depicted enemy presence, giving a new dimension to stealth.

--Did you choose the Azuchi-Momoyama period as the period setting from the pre-production stage?
BROOKE: I joined the project after the choice of period had been made, so the Azuchi-Momoyama period had already been chosen. This period offered so many wonderful opportunities from a narrative perspective. The complexity and duality of the period is well reflected in the characters of Naoe and Yasuke.
--What were you aware of and what were the challenges in creating a scenario where the two main characters switch?
BROOKE: From a storytelling perspective, I see it more as a wonderful opportunity than a challenge. When I write a story, I try to show rather than tell, and having two characters allows me to show what's going on from a wider range of angles and different perspectives. I hope this will encourage players to want to share their feelings with them.
--What do you think are the most important points in bringing original characters and historical figures into the game?
BROOKE: Both offer different and unique opportunities. With regard to Yasuke, I found him very interesting historically because we know some things about him, but there are many unknowns. So we needed to fill in the blanks in the story. It is important to note that Yasuke is a historical figure.
And in the case of Naoe, an original character, we were able to draw the story freely to some extent. The fact that she is a member of the Fujibayashi family and that her father is Masayasu Fujibayashi Nagato Mamoru allowed us to place her firmly within the setting. Because Yasuke is a real person but appears as a foreign-born samurai, the Japanese-born Naoe is on equal footing with Yasuke, although she has a different perspective.
--Will other historical figures appear besides Nobunaga Oda and Yasuke?
BROOKE: You will meet Luis Frois (a Jesuit missionary) at the meeting in Azuchi Castle. Also, Nene and Oichi will appear. The Japanese art renaissance that began in the Azuchi-Momoyama period blossomed in the Edo period, and you will also meet Sen no Rikyu, Kano Eitoku, and other important figures.
--Please tell us what year the story will be depicted.
BROOKE: I can't tell you what players will see, but I think it covers a part of the Azuchi-Momoyama period, from 1579 to 1584.
--I think the appeal of the series is to depict the struggle between the Assassin Order and the Templars while taking into account the history, but I would like to ask if there were any difficulties in putting the Azuchi-Momoyama period into it.
BROOKE: I don't want to mention the Knights Templar because I don't want to spoil anything, but the fascination and dynamics of this period are very interesting and provided wonderful opportunities for storytelling.
--How did you go about creating a world with a realistic feel of the Azuchi-Momoyama period?
BROOKE: We were very lucky to work with the Environment Team. The visuals they created for the game provided a great backdrop for the story.
The in-world experience added so much to the story. What we see from the stories and characters of this time period is complexity. I also believe that many of the people surrounding the World had their own struggles.
It was a very difficult time historically, and we see duality. Nothing is ever clear-cut and black and white. In warfare, two groups face each other and are confronted with different perspectives. But in the midst of it all, there are glimpses of hope for the future as we know it, which will later blossom.
--What advice did you actually give?
HORI: One scene that left a strong impression on me was the scene where Nobunaga's sister, Oichi, remarries Katsuie Shibata. In the original story we received, it was thought that the two families decided on their own without regard to Oichi's intentions, and Katsuie was portrayed negatively because he was more than 20 years older than Oichi.
So I spoke with BROOKE and the team and asked them to change it. Oichi had young children after the death of her husband Nagamasa Asai, so if her remarriage was to Katsuie, a trusted man who had served Nobunaga, she would have married him as a matter of course. When I explained that it was better to portray it in a positive light, it was a new discovery for the BROOKEs, and they were very moved by it. The rewritten version of the episode was very moving.
The other scene is the tea ceremony scene featuring Sen no Rikyu. Chanoyu is widely known to be translated as tea ceremony, but experts say it is a mistranslation. After researching the misunderstanding over here, I advised them, as far as I could understand, not to use a teapot or tea leaves, for example.
--Even we Japanese have a strong image of "ninja" as a fantasy. Did you encounter any difficulties with the theme of "ninja" in order to achieve a high level of fidelity to the historical reconstruction?
HORI: Ninja are certainly a fantasy, so I think it's a good thing that we can express ourselves creatively and without reservation. However, there are also dedicated ninja fans and communities around the world, and I am not sure to what extent they see the ninja as a real existence, or as an entity that existed in history.
Therefore, the extent to which ninja are represented in the game depends on the level of tolerance of the avid shinobi fans. I discussed this with the members of the development team. We did not have a specific policy on how much to express, but made decisions on a case-by-case basis. We decided on a case-by-case basis. We would say, "This is an acceptable creative expression," or "This is stereotypical", so let's not do that.
--I'm sure there are many references, but which one left a particularly strong impression on you?
BROOKE: The first book I looked through was "Nobunaga no Kouki" by Ota Ushiichi (Azuchi-Momoyama period, military commander and military history author). I was impressed by his personal observations as he recounts the details. We can learn a lot of historical facts from reading history books, but this author incorporated his own views so that I felt I could understand even his character and what it was like to live in that era, and I was completely drawn in. I was thrilled to be able to portray this time period and the people in this book.
--The drama "Shogun" which is set in a similar time period, has been a hit, and I hope that this work will attract the same kind of attention from game fans. I understand that you have prepared a "Discovery Tour" that allows visitors to freely walk around the game world with historical explanations.
BROOKE: I can't answer about the Discovery Tour today, but I am glad to see that interest in the setting and time period of the game is growing. I look forward to the day when we can bring this film to you.

Gathering a lot of information to recreate 16th century Japan and build a living world

--Please tell us what kind of materials you used as references to describe the field and the characters' costumes in the Azuchi-Momoyama period.
THIERRY: I have been working with experts and consultants for a long time, but for the characters, I referred to museum exhibits and books for their appearances and costumes. I visited several museums, did my research, and checked the materials with STÉPHANIE-ANNE.
Based on these, we created the characters. We also referred to descriptions in the books about the colors and the flags people carried. We used multiple sources, but we have checked them for historical accuracy.
STÉPHANIE-ANNE: For several years we had the help of experts, but we also did research with a Japanese studio and team. We used different kinds of sources to make sure the team got it right and had all the information they needed to reconstruct what Japan looked like in the 16th century.
We used museum databases, as THIERRY mentioned, but we also used inscriptions, scientific books, articles, and medieval depositions. For example, the Principles of Nobunaga has been translated into English, so we used that as a reference to describe 16th century Japan. I also referred to the documents of Luis Frois from the same period, which compare European and Japanese society.
--This period was also a time when there was a large influx of immigrants. Will you also depict the episodes, lifestyles, and culture of these people (missionaries, merchants, etc.) as well as Yasuke?
STÉPHANIE-ANNE: Yes, it is important to introduce the presence of Portuguese missionaries and merchants in the 16th century. They influenced the course of warfare during this period and the changing power of certain merchants in Japan.
--I am wondering what castles, shrines and temples that symbolize the Azuchi-Momoyama period will appear in the game. Although the game is set in the Kansai region, is the Osaka Castle built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi ......?
STÉPHANIE-ANNE: The era is represented by the construction of various castles and castle towns, so players will discover a wide variety of castle types and castles destroyed in battle. The Azuchi Castle, which is related to the name of the era, will also be featured.
THIERRY: Himeji Castle, Osaka Castle, and Takeda Castle are also available, and it is wonderful that players can visit and play in these castles. I think this is one of the strengths of the franchise, but all of the castles are based on actual historical blueprints, which I think is very unique, both as an experience and a learning opportunity.
The Koyasan Okunoin Cemetery is the oldest graveyard in Japan, which can also be seen in the game. There are too many to mention them all, but thanks to STÉPHANIE-ANNE and the experts, I think they are well described and it is wonderful that players will be able to travel to these places.
--The architectural style and decoration of the buildings is a different culture from the previous works in the series. What were you conscious of in recreating the culture and what were the challenges? I am also interested in the possibility of diving on the "Shachihoko".
STÉPHANIE-ANNE: The building team did a lot of research, and then we checked the results with experts and asked them to add the elements needed to build a great castle. We did research to recreate the decorations of not only the castle, but also the temples and shrines, and also to find out what materials were used to make them.
THIERRY: The colors also change over time, so we made adjustments to that as well. Of course, this is "Assassin's Creed," so you can climb anywhere and jump from almost anywhere. Exploring is fun.
--Japanese period games tend to be rather subdued, but were there any barriers to making it a worldwide production?
STÉPHANIE-ANNE: It's a game based on history, and we want players to have the opportunity to play with history. This period is so fascinating and celebrated, and has had such an impact on pop culture, that we were fortunate to have the help of renowned experts to make sure we had all the information we needed to faithfully recreate medieval Japan in the 16th century.
We maintained historical fidelity in this film because it was a rich period with so much to talk about and we didn't feel the need to change it. It is a rich setting, so there is an experience that goes into fantasy, but keeping it authentic was our primary goal.
--In the main storyline, can we experience famous episodes from the Azuchi-Momoyama period (such as the Battle of Nagashino, the Honnoji Incident, the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute, etc.)?
STÉPHANIE-ANNE: You will have to wait a little longer for that.
--In the recent series, "Origins," "Odyssey," and "Valhalla," you can enjoy the connection to mythology and fantasy elements based on mythological themes. Will this work also contain elements based on Japanese mythology, yokai, and other fictional creatures?
STÉPHANIE-ANNE: That is a very good question, but I will answer this one later.
--This work also reproduces the four seasons of Japan. Which season did you start first? And which seasons were particularly difficult to express?
THIERRY: I started with spring. We all know about cherry blossoms, and I think they are the most symbolic Japanese element for foreigners. And the big difference is winter. I wouldn't say that winter is more complicated because it has many different expressions, but it was very different from spring, summer, and fall, and the challenges were also different.
--What was particular about the representation of water, such as waterfalls, rivers, lakes, etc.?
THIERRY: All of the water topics were very important to us. We knew that there is a Shinto belief in waterfalls and rivers, and that they are important places in the Japanese eco-system. Even the blueprints of the suburbs are lined with irrigation canals, and they even go into the houses. Thus, we knew that water is a key component of Japanese culture, especially for agriculture.
This is why we installed drains everywhere in this work. The presence of water in the Japanese landscape was different, so we took it seriously and treated it as an inviolable part of the Japanese landscape and way of life.
--What are some of your favorite places, castles, or cultures that appear in your work?
STÉPHANIE-ANNE: That's difficult.
THIERRY: My favorite is Takeda Castle. It is on top of a high mountain and is called the castle in the sky, and I like this location. I can't say it's fair because we built it ourselves, but there are many other great places to visit.
It was a lot of work to create the forest, but I really enjoy looking at the landscape. I also like how all the ecosystems interact with each other, such as the clouds in the weather system. It's not a location, but I enjoy it because it encompasses the whole game.
STÉPHANIE-ANNE: I was impressed by the "Rakuchu Rakugaizu," Japanese folding screens from this period. I was fascinated by the fact that just by looking at them, one could come into contact with the vivid world of this period.
The artistic touch is something special. I have never seen anything so full of art. I truly admire the artists of this era.
THIERRY: I also think the most striking thing for me was the harmony of nature and architecture. I visited the site and found many places, and I could see how everything was deliberately composed.
I was told that trees were planted while the chedi was being built at the time, but everything looked perfect. Also, the culture loves the age and values it, so they cherish moss and things that have taken root there. Japan has maintained these places so they still exist and are still in use.
I realized that we are dealing with a subject that has a long history. It is also a culture that values space, living space. These were the most exciting discoveries during my travels in Japan.

I am stepmom. I got into a relationship with dad and we are living together. He has two lil ones, 6 and 3. I love them so very much and we all have a good relationship. Home is good except for occasional snack and sugar limitation tantrums, or your basic bumps and bruises from falls. Biomom and stepdad have them through school week and we get them every weekend. Biomom does not like me and she gets very upset when people do not do what she wants them to do. Dad will ask what time would work for them to be picked up (they live an hour away) and she will pick and choose when she responds. Sometimes, she won’t respond at all because she does not want him to have the kids. He pays child support weekly, around $200 each week TO be able to see them and I feel as though since he and she are the parents, she should answer. And he is not a bad father either (I wouldn’t be with him if i didn’t see him as an active person in their lives, he is truly involved and loves them). He has to now text her bf to see where they are and if we can get the children for the weekend and what time. I have never intiated a conversation with her. Is that wrong of me? Should I have reached out and asked her for what she is and what she is not okay with? Bc she is mom do I say hi? She messaged me due to being upset I did daughter’s hair and told me to not touch the kids. So.. I don’t know what to do. Bc she is biomom do I have to abide by that or do I just keep going as is and just don’t do her hair before drop offs? I don’t want to be disrespectful I try to be understanding, but also we have a family too and I felt like not being able to physically interact with them seemed excessive? Like basics, wiping face after eating, holding when they want to be held, ect.. When that incident happened, she had her bf call bio dad and he started yelling and cursing about how we need to learn “respect” and that we could not see the kids until we cleaned up our act.. the kids were heard in the back during this phone call (after a drop off). Obviously we were both very mad and hurt by this interaction, but didn’t know how to respond, they truly will keep the kids from us and bf has threatened biodad before with physically harming him, even if it’s their hair. I try to not overstep, I just have not contacted her because they are high conflict and I didn’t feel like I had to, but maybe i need to. Just a lot of back and forth and we really just want peace. Looking for advice.

I’ve lived in a small town now for over a year. Coming from a big city it was a nice change. For about 5 minutes. It wasn’t long before their backwards mindedness took over. Being an outsider and different race makes me stand out alot too. Odd responses when walking down the street from people you don’t know, really makes your head spin over time. Basic minded too, too many assumptions made about who I was based on how I looked. Words spread quick in this place, so who I am to them is FAR different than the reality. They will never know me, they can’t. If you don’t go out of your way to stamp down a persona of who you want them to think you are, they will make one up for you. Before you know it, all of your relationships are poisoned before you even start them and they turn you into an outlier. Not all are this way, saying that, it’s hard to tell for certain. But suffice it to say that it would drive a man crazy after a while. And that’s not mentioning the neighbours talking to people about what you do and say in your home, to other people! Met a guy who had arrived here a few months before me and he was almost driven mad by them. It didn’t end well. He may have deserved a little ill treatment but largely, he simply didn’t fit in with them either.
All this plus racist autistics who you cannot confront properly as they are largely protected as they are seen to be kitten-puppies that you cannot kick, no matter what! From day one this guy did not like me, at all. First look at me and it was like I was something scraped out of a rats backside. I was NOT happy. From there, any miss step in character or action would result in swift judgement. Not to mention the amount of accusations I’ve had my way, totally convinced I had done this or broke that when I was completely innocent. But for some reason, he’s still a saint. Anyone who does not fit a profile, he does not like. And all you get is ignorance and prejudice.
…….You just wanna have anonymity but it’s not possible. For me anyway. And the slightest thing you do, who you interact with, how you interact, all watched closely. One miss step, you p off the wrong person and that poison thickens. I’ve had enough, I don’t know what’s real or just paranoia (justifiable imo). I’ve overstayed my welcome and they have over tested my patience. I will be going very soon, fingers crossed. Until then, I keep my head down, no interaction until I go. It’s the only way to maintain my sanity and not end up like the last bloke lol.
My query is this? Is this what all small towns are like?!! Or is my situation unique? What have been your experiences?

I know we come here to vent and this has been a safe space for me to do that as well
That being said my family gives me hope for us CF people existing and being respected!
My mother doesn't agree with me being CF, but she should have never had children and we are estranged
Aside from that, my family is awesome
My family mostly consists of my sister, my dad, my paternal uncles and their wives and kids, and my stepmom and siblings. They are all lovely, compassionate, empathetic people. I am blessed to have them. They have always been aware that I never wanted to be a mom, I've known this since I was a kid. As a teen I almost wanted them to be mad so I could fight about it but conversations always went like this:
Me: I don't want kids
Any family member: will that make you happy?
Me: yes
Them: well then good for you!
My oldest cousin has a 2yr old (guesstimate) and he's been around for holidays and everyone does gush, but knowing how I feel about kids no one has ever asked me to hold him and I am free to interact with him as I like. I love the little tyke, never met such a chill baby. He's just like his parents in that way tbh. But I really think that if he had been forced on me I would't feel that way.
I hope this doesn't come off as a brag but as genuine appreciation. I just wanted to share because I believe that this is the culture we can create in time and I think you all deserve it too!

Hello! I'm looking for a campaign that I can play in! As stated above, I can only play between the hours of 8am-5pm PST from Mondays to Fridays or Saturdays 8am-9pm.
A little about myself: I've been playing for about 6 years or more years. I've played everything from 5e, world of darkness, nighthaze, Dark heresy, Black Crusade forum games, kingdom death, and more. My playing style is more favored for in-game interaction and in turn combat than roleplaying. While I like roleplaying I do have my limits. Lastly, I don't have money for paid games just as a general notice.
Currently I'm looking for a game that would allow me to play as a medic of some kind. The reason of why I would ask to play a mundane healer is that I think it would fun concept to play and one that I would very want to do. Someone concerned with bandages, sutures, anatomy, and in turn the practice of trying to keep someone alive with medieval or semi-modern tools. All of which can lead to some interesting roleplay situations depending on the campaign this character is within. Hopefully this concept is interesting to you.
If not, I also have an idea for a char who is more or less 'damned' from the start. With their background being that they have made a pact with a daemonic entity by joining a cult or by starting one and sacrificing their lackeys for a chance at power. The end result of either is that the char has magical power, but regrets it and is teetering on the edge of madness thanks to their pact. With them constantly muttering and whispering to themselves during the course of the campaign. And while they are heroic in the sense that they are a good person and willing to fight the good fight, they are very much still aligned with their cult and during combat may devote 'their kills' to their patron for power.
My playing style is more favored for in-game interaction and in turn combat than roleplaying. While I like roleplaying as much as anyone else, I have my limit, and I'm the player that's more than content to kick down the dungeon door and see what's next. I know that for a group that heavily favors roleplaying, I may not be the best fit for them. However i'm willing to play in one if they will have me I suppose.

Welcome to The Eastland Expedition, a Pathfinder 2nd Edition Campaign for 4-5 Players set in the Homebrew setting of Clockworld that has recently started and is in need of new players due to scheduling conflicts discovered early on. We are welcoming group who enjoy the social interaction, humour, and general companionship of the game - as much as we enjoy a serious story with well-defined characters taking part in an epic struggle of exploration and survival against the bleak unknown.
This campaign features our party, freshly set sail from the distant west of Amilyn - voyaging to a new world across the Ashuran Ocean in search of... Wealth? Power? Glory? A chance to be part of something great? The character's motives are as varied as the novelities we shall discover, from blackguards of bitter repute to knights in shining armour and gallant repose to mercenaries and thrill-seekers without a care for anything but the chance to make it somewhere else.
The story will take us across the breadth of the New World in discovery of where it is you have landed - feature the political difficulties of bridging your patron's desires with the necessity of surviving in a realm that does not welcome you, and more important - the freedom to not just build your nation and settlement as you see fit, but to impact the very story of Clockworld itself.
This game is welcoming to players new to the system, as we as a group ourselves have only recently started to learn the game - and we are happy to learn alongside you. I am a relaxed and patient Storyteller who enjoys the social fabric of OOC conversation as much as the in-game narrative - provided it does not serve to derail the campaign too much. I am happy to answer questions as often as needed, and provided any explanations regarding the rules or lore as required; no matter how simple the request might be.
My door is always open - and I am happy to field any feedback, criticisms or complaints that you may have. I do my utmost to ensure this is a safe game where everyone can have fun and relax. As part of this, we are entirely LGBTQ+ Friendly, and the setting itself is free for characters of all persuasions, creeds, and ethnicities. This is a Flat-World Fantasy set upon a Giant Clock - as long as the characters fit within the general fabric of the setting, there will be no complaints.
Since I do put a lot of effort into my campaings - from the World Anvil I maintain to the battlemaps and the effort required to create a story as wide-reaching and free as this; I do expect a certain modicum of respect in return. Primarily, while real life must always come first - repeated lateness and missed sessions without a good reason can cause me great difficulty in keeping the rhythm and momentum of the story, and will not be appreciated over any extended period. The same can be said to rudeness aimed at other players, and while I understand humour can take a while to get used to, and come in many different styles - targeted harrassment will not be tolerated in the slightest, and you will be removed from the game.
Lastly - the game will detail violence and graphic content. Concepts such as homophobia, transphobia, and sexisim do not exist within the setting as I do not feel I could give them due deference with the story I am telling, and while mental illness and addiction may feature - I will only do so when I feel I can treat them with the respect and seriousness the conditions deserve. Any limits provided to me by players however, will be respected immediately; without any explanation required - and a red card system is utilised should a scene stray too close to a previous-stated limit, or steps upon something that was not discussed prior but is causing distress. At any point this is happening, you may message either me or the server and we will immediately end the scene and discuss where we went wrong - so that we can avoid such a thing occuring again.

davidpakman A well-moderated subreddit can be one of the absolute best places for political discussion. On the other side of the coin, because politics can be so toxic, an improperly moderated subreddit can be one of the absolute worst places for healthy political discourse!
From what I see on the /thedavidpakmanshow subreddit, there's plenty of feedback, some constructive criticism and unproductive commentary. How do approach interacting with the community, and what strategies do you use to foster a positive community atmosphere?
davidpakman Our moderation team regularly reviews subreddit activity and we discuss among ourselves how to find the balance between allowing the discussions to take their own course with the goal of maintaining a healthy discourse. It is difficult to always get every aspect of this right, but the primary question we ask is whether the subreddit is better or worse off, overall, with a particular element, be it a news source, a specific user's presence, etc.
2024 is an important year for elections all around the world particularly in the US, so I'll finish this off with: why do you feel people should bother keeping informed with it all?
davidpakman Whatever one cares about is informed by our political system. Even "non-political" people who only care about hiking, or fishing, or going to concerts, your hobbies and interests are still mediated by the political system, the people we elect, and the rules they decide on. Once we realize this, political engagement, at minimum voting, is simply the minimum we can do.

Welcome to The Eastland Expedition, a Pathfinder 2nd Edition Campaign for 4-5 Players set in the Homebrew setting of Clockworld that has recently started and is in need of new players due to scheduling conflicts discovered early on. We are welcoming group who enjoy the social interaction, humour, and general companionship of the game - as much as we enjoy a serious story with well-defined characters taking part in an epic struggle of exploration and survival against the bleak unknown.
This campaign features our party, freshly set sail from the distant west of Amilyn - voyaging to a new world across the Ashuran Ocean in search of... Wealth? Power? Glory? A chance to be part of something great? The character's motives are as varied as the novelities we shall discover, from blackguards of bitter repute to knights in shining armour and gallant repose to mercenaries and thrill-seekers without a care for anything but the chance to make it somewhere else.
The story will take us across the breadth of the New World in discovery of where it is you have landed - feature the political difficulties of bridging your patron's desires with the necessity of surviving in a realm that does not welcome you, and more important - the freedom to not just build your nation and settlement as you see fit, but to impact the very story of Clockworld itself.
This game is welcoming to players new to the system, as we as a group ourselves have only recently started to learn the game - and we are happy to learn alongside you. I am a relaxed and patient Storyteller who enjoys the social fabric of OOC conversation as much as the in-game narrative - provided it does not serve to derail the campaign too much. I am happy to answer questions as often as needed, and provided any explanations regarding the rules or lore as required; no matter how simple the request might be.
My door is always open - and I am happy to field any feedback, criticisms or complaints that you may have. I do my utmost to ensure this is a safe game where everyone can have fun and relax. As part of this, we are entirely LGBTQ+ Friendly, and the setting itself is free for characters of all persuasions, creeds, and ethnicities. This is a Flat-World Fantasy set upon a Giant Clock - as long as the characters fit within the general fabric of the setting, there will be no complaints.
Since I do put a lot of effort into my campaings - from the World Anvil I maintain to the battlemaps and the effort required to create a story as wide-reaching and free as this; I do expect a certain modicum of respect in return. Primarily, while real life must always come first - repeated lateness and missed sessions without a good reason can cause me great difficulty in keeping the rhythm and momentum of the story, and will not be appreciated over any extended period. The same can be said to rudeness aimed at other players, and while I understand humour can take a while to get used to, and come in many different styles - targeted harrassment will not be tolerated in the slightest, and you will be removed from the game.
Lastly - the game will detail violence and graphic content. Concepts such as homophobia, transphobia, and sexisim do not exist within the setting as I do not feel I could give them due deference with the story I am telling, and while mental illness and addiction may feature - I will only do so when I feel I can treat them with the respect and seriousness the conditions deserve. Any limits provided to me by players however, will be respected immediately; without any explanation required - and a red card system is utilised should a scene stray too close to a previous-stated limit, or steps upon something that was not discussed prior but is causing distress. At any point this is happening, you may message either me or the server and we will immediately end the scene and discuss where we went wrong - so that we can avoid such a thing occuring again.

The application is mostly up for you to determine - though at least a vague concept of a character and a reason this campaign drew you to apply would be appreciated. Should I like what I see, I will send an invitation for a brief interview to see how we get along as player and storyteller. There is nothing to prepare, just a simple chat with a few questions to get a baseline for each other and whether we'll be a good fit.
The game will be taking place on Discord and Foundry - Characters will be starting at Level Two in line with the rest of the party, and all classes are available to be played. Where possible we will be sticking with Player Core Content, but where Legacy Options exist that have not yet been updated, we will be open to including them as well.

i'm a junior in highschool and i started talking to this guy from my school who had 53 followers on insta (only 2 were girls) like he was extremely shy in front of girls and we hit it off. i knew i liked him. he was physically attractive and our personalities matched well. he himself said that he felt like i was the female version of him. it was obvious that he liked me back but for some reason he kept saying he didn't want to date because his friends had bad experiences so i didn't force him into anything. for 2 months we talked daily for 12 hours. once we made a plan to meet up but i couldn't come because i got my period. he got so pissed that he refused to talk to me and deactivated his instagram. he said i was the only person he had a soft spot for and i ruined it. he even burnt the love letter i had given him. my friends thought it was really childish that he got so mad especially when we were just meeting as friends. his defense was that we had been planning to meet since so long and he was just disappointed. i wrote him a long apology and he forgave me. later, my friends told me to confront him and ask him if he really liked me because he wanted to do all these lovey dovey couple things with me like saying he wanted to marry me 9 yrs later but then saying we were just friends. so i asked him and he kept saying i don't know until he said that he did like me but he didn't want to date because of moral issues and stuff (we're Muslim btw) so i didn't push him. i told him i would wait till he was ready. we went back to normal. we even met and he gave me his bracelet and chocolates. i knew i was in love with him even though my friends didn't like him. a few weeks passed by and i felt that he was getting distant. his texts were dry and we didn't talk that often. and then all of a sudden i checked and he had unfollowed and removed me. i asked him about it and he said that he wanted to stop talking to girls since he had bad experiences (he fought his other girl friend whos the biggest pick me ive met btw) and said he was looking forward to a religious approach. i just replied with good for you since i couldn't really say anything else. my friends said he got tired of me and it was all an excuse. i don't know what to think. i mean i liked him so much just for him to break it off so suddenly. you can be friends with girls without it being sexual can't you? like even his friends were like if i was him i wouldn't hesitate to date you. and if he did want to become more religious why didn't he focus on his inner circle because from what ive heard some of his friends are shitty ppl. recently i saw screenshots of his chat history that his younger brother sent. it was his dms list full of girls (my last text to him was included) i was a bit suspicious because back when i first met him everyone said he was shy and he was afraid of talking to girls and i was the only one he romantically interacted with (he had 2 other friends that were girls and i knew them since he used to show me his dm list) but now he's texting girls that don't even want anything to do with him. went into a h0e phase after we stopped talking i guess. why would he leave me to talk to other girls that don't even want him. did my attention boost his ego idk what happened i miss it but i wouldn't want him back idk. im confused. it hurts now bcs he was my first proper love and i really wanted a future with him.

hello all, as the title suggests, i an looking for some advice on helping cut back on my weed consumption, as it’s gotten to the point where I am starting to get concerned.
For context, i’ve been smoking infrequently since i was about 14,then once i turned 16 i started smoking more regularly. Before I turned 16 my mom was heavily against me smoking weed but was also an avid smoker herself, leading to me sneaking some of her weed out or buying weed with the money she gave me for food. this was only on days where I knew i wouldn’t have to interact with her, because I knew she would be mad if she found out. Once I turned 16 however, my mom completely flipped a switch and went from forbidding me from smoking to straight up supplying it to me, giving me 7 grams a week. This constant stream of weed combined with no one telling me to stop anymore led to me smoking multiple times a day. I know that the issue also isn’t going to resolve itself, as i’ve noticed that I’ve been going through the normal amount of weed i smoke faster and faster, and it takes multiple bowls to get the same effect. I smoke right when i wake up to right before I go to bed, as I literally cannot sleep without it. I understand that this is an addiction, and i also understand how weed is kind of a silly addiction to have (yes i have seen the bob saget skit, “you ever such dick for weed?”)
i am starting to see how this addiction is effecting almost every spect of my life. no matter how much sleep i get , im always tired. the same hobbies that used to excite me now leave me bored, and my sexual libido is almost none existent. I also fear this his having an effect on my girlfriend, as she lives with me and went from not smoking at all to smoking multiple times a day like me . my biggest fear is knowing that i’m actively helping her form the addiction that has me in such a chokehold.
I guess what I’m asking for is someone who has been in my situation and understands how it feels that was able to conquer their addiction to give me some advice on how to conquer mine.

Basically what the title says. I know it's a snow layer because when I try to shovel the block, it just removes the layer of snow, and the block isn't transparent anymore. At first I thought it might have been a compatibility issue between Snow Real Magic and Fabric Seasons, but turns out it was not the case. Looked for a solution at the mod author's github page for reporting bugs regarding the mod but, to no avail, I was unable to find anything. I would appreciate any help at this point because honestly this has become very frustrating. The modpack is a custom one, just me messing around and trying different things out. 2024.05.19 18:38 Plus-Horror7994 PROS and other nonsense

Start rant/ I think I have figured out what PROS actually stands for because it couldn’t possibly mean professional at least not the ones I have to interact with. My best guess is: Perpetually Rude, Offensive, and (more often than not) Smelly. In my location we cannot keep employees in the Pro department they don’t last sometimes more than a day. Anyone else come up with new acronyms for Pros we know how Lowe’s loves acronyms? Other nonsense that happens everyday is customers that try to haggle over prices as if I have any control whatsoever on the prices, lady yesterday literally accused me of lying to her about my ability to change prices “if I wanted to”, um no. Or “which one of these works really well for pet hair and dander I am allergic and have asthma, I need the one with the best suction?” I told her you really need a Dyson. She got mad and accused me of just trying to sell her the most expensive one which it isn’t even the most expensive one we have?! I worked 11 hours yesterday and had to complain somewhere where people would understand /end rant.

Was I in the wrong?
Note to Mods: I have covered over anyone's name including the streamer so there is not anyway anyone can go harass them or anyone else. I'm not looking to spread hate or negativity with this post.
Context: I was in this game (the Gabriel) solo que and I was trying to work on Gens the whole game but two teammates got killed on hook pretty fast due to the killer getting them pretty fast after. There are 5 gens left and when I see that the final team mate (angry steamer) is hooked I decide to not unhook him and wait for hatch due to the fact that this game is simply not winnable with 5 gens left and only two of us on one of the smaller maps in the game.
Why would I sacrifice myself for him just for both of us to probably end up dying? If one of us could potentially escape (in this situation it was me then one better than none right? So I escape with hatch and he starts talking trash immediately after and of course so do I to defend myself. Also his friend who he was co-streaming with literally walked up to the killer and let them kill her for no apparent reason right at the start of the match, which heavily increases the difficulty for the survivor side by doing that on purpose. The streamer also told me to die in a fire after in the final clip so I did in fact report him to twitch regardless if I was making a bad move in game or not.
My question is: Am I wrong for taking this strategy as it could be seen as selfish? If so why? And if I was wrong was this streamer justified for being this mad? Just want to know, and I’m asking this here since the main DBD sub banned this post, and this is also pissing me off lol!

This past week has been incredibly difficult due to that holiday so I decided it would be good for me to write a letter to my nmom to keep for myself during my healing process to get everything out and it's been very cathartic. Part of my healing journey has been sharing my (extremely personal) experience with others who understand, hence why I'm sharing this here, and maybe it'll give someone some strength knowing that I made it out after all of this. Dear mom, Happy belated Mother’s Day. My Mother’s Day was spent being upset and anxious so I decided to write this letter. This letter is so incredibly difficult to write and even more difficult to read back to myself. Moving away from university and back home during COVID was genuinely one of the most difficult things I have done in my life simply because of all of the repressed memories that flooded back into my brain every single day I was in that house. I used to resent the pandemic for forcing me to live in an environment that made me want to harm myself every single day and die every other day, but I am now thankful for the clarity that it brought me as I don’t think I’d have the foresight that I have now.
There is a lot that I want to say. I am angry, bitter, resentful, and traumatized from things that you have done to me as a child and also as an adult. I thought for a very long time that thing were normal but thank God I now know just how truly fucked up so many of my childhood experiences were. Not a single day goes by where I don’t think about the emotional, physical, and sexual abuse that I went through. I am haunted every single day by things that you did (and some things that you didn’t do) and hope that one day I will be able to heal from what I experienced.
I grew up being close to my cousin Chloe (a year younger than me) who was obviously very bitchy, mean, and abusive. This fact isn’t something you weren’t aware of as I know a fully grown adult would be able to see how she treated and talked to me when around you and come to the obvious conclusion that I should not have been allowed to be around her. She bullied me, called me names, physically assaulted me by pushing me, pulling my hair, and sitting on me with my hands held behind my back until I couldn’t breathe, forced me to bathe in scolding hot bath water that would burn my skin, making me undress and make fun of parts of my body, and forced me to watch things that she knew would scare me. This is the same time that I started having insomnia and struggled in school due to anxiety. It’s also the same time I remember my sound sensitivity starting. Do you remember my childhood friend’s mom Amelia and how protective she was over my friend, Diana? Diana met Chloe at my 9th birthday party and Diana went over to her house for a playdate and Chloe did something to her. She physically reached over and groped Diana on the privates. I knew Amelia IMMEDIATELY prevented her daughter from ever being around Chloe again. I also knew that it's possible she mentioned this to my aunt, but I'm not positive. I know that Amelia is the type of mom to prevent Diana from reading Harry Potter because she thought it was a bad influence on her due to being “demonic”, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she made you aware of what Chloe did to Diana as she knew that I spent a lot of time around her. I doubt that what Chloe did to Diana was ever kept a secret from you. Chloe also forced me to do sexual things I didn’t want to do from roughly the ages of 8-11. One time, we were in her kitchen and she pulled out a knife and said that she was going to stab me. By then, I knew she just wanted to scare me so when I had no reaction, she put the knife away. I was terrified of what would happen if I said no to her so I went along with whatever she wanted. She would go into the bathroom and tell me to follow, would lock the door, and make me take off my clothes and let her do things to me and forced me to do the same things to her. I used to think that you had NO IDEA about this until I remember you saying the words- “you were an amazing kid and never had any problems until you got a little older. I always wondered if something happened.” Who the fuck says that to their kid???? Yeah, something DID happen and it wouldn’t have happened if you protected me!!!! You fucking idiot!!!! I remember being in our new house and taking a shower with you when I was about 8 (which was VERY inappropriate and should NEVER have happened at all) and saying something that clearly made you uncomfortable. It CLEARLY indicated something was going on. I remember the exact face you made and know that any normal, healthy adult would have done something about it and made sure nothing was happening. They would have made sure I was SAFE, and talked to me about safety, but nothing was said or done. You have failed me many times, but this one is the most painful. Not only will you need to live with the fact that you knew about my abuse and did nothing, but I will have to live with the fact that my mom knew "something happened” and didn’t care about me enough to protect me. I look at my beautiful niece Hallie, and imagine not protecting her like that and want to vomit. I cannot fathom how a mother would have the thought “I wonder if something happened to my daughter to case a massive behavioral change” and NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT! You didn’t talk to me, never asked me if Chloe was doing anything, or anything at all. If I even had a minor suspicion that something was happening to Hallie, I would IMMEDIATELY do something about it because THAT IS MY JOB as an adult in her life. You failed me and deserve to know that this traumatized me and gave me PTSD. I am NOT autistic, no matter how much you WANT me to be so you can go around and gain sympathy for “having an autistic daughter” rather than owning up to the fact that you caused what “went wrong” with me.
Not only did you not help prevent me from being molested by my cousin, you also added to my sexual trauma by forcing me to use the giant egg monistat insert to treat a yeast infection when I was 11. I was ELEVEN and you had a bright idea to force a HUGE foreign object into my prepubescent body even though you were fully aware I could have easily gotten a prescription for a pill to swallow from a doctor. I was scared. I had so much pain and itching and needed a mother to hug me, tell me it’s going to be okay, or at the very least, EXPLAIN what I had and how we were going to fix it. You didn’t do any of that. You told me to lay down and proceeded to try and administer medication that is NOT meant for children 12 and under due to the physical damage it could cause. I was clearly in pain and scared, but you kept trying anyways. At any point, you could have stopped and taken me to the fucking doctor, but nope. You then got frustrated that “you couldn’t get it in” and told your 11 year old daughter to shove it inside herself. Then you left the room. I hadn’t even had a period yet, let alone know where my vagina was but you sure felt the need to yet again abandon your parental responsibilities and place them onto your kid! Miraculously, I put it in and wobbled out to lay on the couch because I was in physical pain from BOTH the infection and YOU, but because a child’s body isn’t able to properly fully insert the medication used (which once again I’ll remind you is meant for girls 13 and up), it came out and got on the couch because you didn’t give me a pad. And rather than prioritize your own daughter’s health, safety, wellbeing, and comfort, you were more upset about the stain on the couch and yelled at me. I will never forget in all of the years that I am alive how ashamed and disgusted I felt standing behind you watching you furiously scrub at the stain that I caused (actually, that YOU caused since this never should have happened in the first place!) and feeling a huge flood of guilt every time I saw that couch stain. One of the best days of my life was when we got a new couch and I never had to see that stain again.
All of this caused me to develop anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts and ideation, self harming behaviors, having out of body experiences where I dissociate, and panic attacks amongst other things. YOU caused ALL of this and you fought tooth and nail to convince me that it was MY fault for being broken. “There’s something going on with you,” and you made it your mission to never take any responsibility for any of the trauma that you caused. Not only did you ignore all signs of abuse and sexually assault me yourself, you bullied and helped a family friend Sharon bully me when I was “being mean” to (her daughter) Faith. I was treated like I was a mentally ill monster who couldn’t be trusted and always got in trouble whenever Faith shed a single tear because I was “mean to her”. Faith cried at LEAST 15x a day, and I was blamed every time she decided to say I was the reason. You allowed a monster (Sharon) to ABUSE me and had the incredibly wise idea to start passing along what shit talking you two would say about me TO ME, a 13 year old girl. I was THIRTEEN. I was A CHILD. And yet, you came crying and complaining to me about how tired you were of hearing Sharon say I was being mean to her daughter when you could have TOLD THE OTHER ADULT IN THE SITUATION TO STOP. It never was my responsibility as a child to try and make another adult stop abusing me by “behaving better.” There was nothing wrong with how I was behaving. You never once tried to help me, you always blamed anybody and everybody else for your failures. I would come and ask you for help when I was struggling and if you didn’t care, you would pawn it off to somebody else- “go talk to your older sister” “talk to your therapist about that” “I don’t know what to say except to tell you to pray about it” and when I came back saying praying didn’t magically fix my depression, you told me to pray harder. I guess you really thought it was a skill issue rather than a diagnosable health condition! No wonder I wanted to die! Hahaha! I’ll never forget the look of disgust on your face when I was sobbing hysterically and struggling to get out the words when I told you just how badly I was affected by Sharon and said how you played a role in helping her harm and abuse me. “WELL. I’m SORRY if you think I didn’t protect you enough. I know what that feels like because my parent’s took my sister’s side a few weeks ago when we were having an argument” (as FULLY GROWN 50+ YEAR OLDS arguing and bitching LIKE CHILDREN!) No, mom, it’s not the same. I was a child and not only did you not stop an abuser from harming me, you joined in. You allowed her access to me and you passed along what horrible things she said was wrong with me. “SHARON said she thinks YOU’RE BIPOLAR. Do you think you are?” “Sharon told me that you’re having AN EPISODE and are being mean to Faith! Show me your phone!” Erm? I’m thirteen? What do you expect me to do? “Well, I just don’t understand why you keep bringing this up when it happened so long ago. I just hope you can forgive her and move on.” You’re fucking disgusting. Should I go into detail about how many times I asked you to not interact with Sharon more than you needed to and you proceeded to try and force her into my life more? You KNEW how uncomfortable I was with you attending Faith’s wedding and yet, you cared more about how you looked and not only attended, but hosted both her wedding and wedding shower. I have always wondered why you never cared how I feel until I realized that you prioritize yourself and how you look to other people above anything and everyone. There is a clear pattern of behavior- - When I was 17 and you were berating me at your work for wanting to visit my friend up in Boston to see a concert together because “you just didn’t understand why I’d want to do that” and I started crying. You rolled your eyes and said “you better leave now if you don’t want my next client to see you crying because her appointment is in a few minutes.” You cared more about having your random client seeing me cry and potentially thinking you’re a bad mom than comforting me. - When I was 13 and we were saying our nightly prayer the night that I had my “therapy appointment” (aka, you and my “therapist” chastising me for writing in my diary that I was having suicidal thoughts), when you were praying you said “Dear God, please help (my name)… and… pLEASE HELP ME!!!!” Clearly, YOU were affected more than I was even though I was the one wanting to die because of you. Wow. Your life is so hard! - Telling everyone around you that I “have problems” and am “really struggling” so you can gain an ounce of sympathy. The way that your friends come up and talk to me is baffling. - Laughing about me with my friends in high school when I was out of the room- “hahaha my daughter is sooooo weird hahaha” - When I was 18 and you called my “therapist” (who did NOT get my consent before doing this and violated her ethical guidelines) after I moved out and stopped talking to you, you got her to help you write a list of “rules” to force me to stay in contact with you. They consisted of requiring me to “talk to you, dad, or my sister at least 1x/day” so you “knew that I was safe” aka, you wanted to control me even though I was an adult and not living in your house. I was perfectly safe, and yet you made me sound like I was doing drug deals in the morning, prostituting myself after lunch, and had plans to commit felonies later that night. I went to school, ate, and went back to my apartment. You had no right manipulating me into talking to you by using my therapist, dad, and sister against me. Pathetic. - Telling me to go do my runs on a strange man’s property instead of the road because it’s “safer.” Dad said that this man who I’VE NEVER MET told him that “there are bad people out there who will kidnap her and do horrible things to her, SO INSTEAD she should run on MY property!” Not sketchy or rapey at all, right? And completely dismissing me when I said that made me uncomfortable by saying “my dad knows him”? Lady, do you know any rape statistics? Clearly not, because you’d then know that only 7% of assaults are strangers while 93% are family members or acquaintances. NINETY THREE PERCENT. The amount of times that I’ve mentioned someone made me uncomfortable or had a massive affect on me as a child and you’ve replied with “Oh, well did they touch you?” People don’t have to touch me to traumatize me. You’re pathetic for thinking that.
I’m not mad at Chloe. I don’t feel any anger or ill will towards her at all. She was a child just like I was a child. She was failed more than I was failed. No child acts that way and assaults other children without learning that from somewhere. I blame her parents for what happened to her. I blame YOU for what happened to me. I vividly remember things that my aunt would say the same time this was happening about little girls and their bodies and I want to smash my head against the wall. Children are to be protected above anything and everything else, by you didn’t. Do I hate Faith and think that she’s a bad person because of what happened when we were 13? No. I fully blame you and Sharon. The amount of adults that have failed me in my life keep me up at night. I think about how different my life would be had dad been more involved and seen what was going on and taken me away from you. I am angry with him for that. I dream one day I will be able to sit down with him and tell him everything I have written about and he will hug me, support me, cry with me, and apologize for not being there more to protect me. But who knows, he might defend his child abusing, mentally ill wife and say I’m making up everything. Who knows.
Do you want to know what my sister said when I told her all of this? She apologized to me for not being 15 years older than I am so she could have raised me instead. I want you to sit here and think about how fucked up that is. My own sister wishes she could have taken me away from you so you couldn’t have abused me. I imagine the pressure she must have felt having to grow up while also raising her mother and sister and I sob for her. I’ve sobbed for me for the mental anguish and torture I experienced at your hands. I’ve even sobbed for you because I can’t imagine being even a fraction of how fucked up you are to resort to abusing and neglecting your child- a child you begged to have. A child you had trouble having and prayed for. Embarrassing.
I’m never going to have a relationship with you again. If God is willing, I will never have to interact with you ever again. Saying that phrase “if God is willing” is ironic because you forcing me to pray my problems away rather than helping me led me to not believe in him. How can I believe in something that also neglected me? I’d sit in my dark bedroom night after night praying and sobbing for him to help me. I didn’t know what was happening to me, but I felt broken and alone. I now know that I was a child praying for God to take away my PTSD, and that is not possible. My heart breaks for that child.
You’re a pathetic excuse for a mother and human being. I’m truly shocked that I survived you and your abuse. I’m surprised that I didn’t ever try to kill myself to try and get away from you because you’re a vulture that prays on innocent people. The only important people in your life are people you think will give you something or will make you look good. That’s why you refused to ever cut ties with Sharon, you knew she was sexually abused as a child and you couldn’t POSSIBLY NOT be her friend because you need her to be your “friend,” or rather, your token sexually abused as a child friend. I genuinely hope that you get better and become a normal healthy person but I won’t ever be around to see it. I hope you feel even a fraction of the pain and abandonment that I have felt my entire life. Happy Mother’s Day, but today isn’t Mother’s Day for me, it’s Daughter’s Day. Moving far away from you one month ago has truly saved my life. Instead of trying to survive, I am enjoying my life. I would have died in that house. I get to finally celebrate being away from you and celebrate myself for staying strong and fighting when I could have easily given up. You once told me “you feel like I HATE you!” to guilt me into fawning over you and telling you how much I loved you, but now you get the opposite. I DO hate you and hate how you have permanently changed me and I wish to never see you again. Instead of praying for the “God forsaken, atheist, lost, evil, liar, miserable, spiteful, hateful, disgusting, mentally ill, “autistic” daughter, pray for yourself. Pray for God’s forgiveness for emotionally, medically, physically, sexually, and religiously abusing and neglecting me. You deserve to remain in your "clueless" state of "having NO IDEA what you did wrong to make her stop talking to me!" for the rest of your life.Happy Daughter’s Day.

I’ve tried all the (free) form plugins I could find but they only seem to offer tik boxes or text inputs as opposed to clicking through the icons like the link I sent…
Would appreciate any suggestions
