Pokecommunity Update Post
Hey folks! Here is a pretty big update for Cool Spot Version! This is going to be the last update before I polish everything up and release the full, finished game! There's some big changes here!
Changelog:
Bug Fixes - EVERY single pokemon is now available to obtain in a single playthrough! Even legendaries! - Text border #20 now works properly - Move tutors now work on intended Pokemon - Cave of Coolness warp locations now work correctly
Balance Changes - All gym leaders have been balanced based on feedback, Phanpy and other ground types now available to obtain before the Wattson fight, Staryu now available before the Flannery fight - Pinsir buffed just cause I like him and he's very cool, very minor improvement in base stats, +5 base attack, +10 base defense - All vitamins now only cost 500$, Rare candies cost 1000$ at the black market - Rare Candies now raise level by 2 stages, and there is no restriction on the amount of vitamins you can give a Pokemon per stat
NEW LOCATIONS!!! - Introducing the BLACK MARKET! For those folks who enjoy EV Training and don't like grinding levels or money, the black market is your one-stop shop for rare candies, vitamin supplements, and includes the Blissey Safari, a new EXP grinding location that lets you fight unlimited blisseys, all holding nuggets to grind $$$ pretty easily!
NEW FEATURES!!! - The story of the game has been slightly altered to reflect changes! Enjoy all the new dialogue, and enrich yourself in the battle of cola and uncola! Save the world in the coolest way possible! - Cool spot has invaded the HUD and UI of the game!! Look for Cool Spot on your trainer card, party menu, the Pokedex, the Map, your Bag menu, and all sorts of new places! How cool! - Both evil Teams have their costumes and overworld sprites altered to fit their twisted plans! - All in-game dialogue has been changed to reflect the appropriate in-game changes (Ex: Potions are now refered to as 7-Up and so on) - There is no longer an annoying beeping when you reach Red HP - Added several new Pokemon! - Added new locations: Black Market, Blissey Safari, and the House of Tutors - Cool Spot now has 2 new unique level up moves, and learns Bubblebeam at an earlier level - Introduces a new Gym Leader battle and unique TM move, available at the Sootopolis Gym - Tutors now Teach your Pokemon an unlimited amount of times - Fishing now works like FLG, no more timing bites - Poison will not damage you outside of battle anymore - Safari Zone now gives you an unlimited number of steps, you will only be kicked out if you retire or run out of Safari Balls - You now start with the national Pokedex! You can now read the dex entries/see areas of non-hoenn Pokemon - HMs are now Deleteable like normal moves! You do not need to see the move deleter - Deoxys/Mew now obey you! - New PC wallpapers and Text Box themes featuring Cool Spot and 7-Up - Harbor Mail is now the Cool Mail and has a picture of Cool Spot on it - Overworld changes are now much cooler! Pokemon Centers and Pokemarts are now Cool Centers and Cool Marts and have Cool Spot on the outside instead of a Pokeball - EXP is now Cool Points! The HUD and status screen now reflect this, Exp Share is now the Cool Share, and Lucky Egg is now the Cool Egg - Using Flash will illuminate the entire map, not just a little section - EVs will now be maxed out at 252 instead of 255 per stat - Randos will no longer bug you on the PokeNav
Thank you folks, and stay cool! I'll see you all in the final release!

2024.05.15 23:38 BlackTeacups [PC][Early 2000's] Monster collecting math game

Platform: PC
Genre: Sci-fi/ educational
Estimated year of release: Late 90's- early 2000's
Graphics/art style: Cartoony, very kid-centric, somewhat sci-fi with space-themed graphics and games.
Notable characters: collectable monsters/aliens
Notable gameplay mechanics: learning about different math concepts, then applying them by solving a variety of math games. When each concept was mastered by reaching an end level, a monstealien was rewarded for your collection. Collected monsters showed up together on a screen where you could read little bios about their species, including things like noises they made and habitats they preferred; a concept similar to a pokedex.
Other details:
I played this game as a little kid around maybe 2006? I don't remember much. The page where the collected monsters all sat might have been like a green grassy field, and there were maybe blacked out silhouettes for monsters that hadn't been collected yet. There were probably around 10 monsters to collect? Not sure if they were monsters or aliens, or both. I had a blast collecting them all though.

2024.05.15 00:53 anabelrichmond I (almost) completed a living dex by beating each generation with just my starter without evolving it. Here's Gen 6.

I (almost) completed a living dex by beating each generation with just my starter without evolving it. Here's Gen 6.
First Hall of Fame Entry
I have embarked on a project to complete a living Pokédex, which is a collection consisting of at least one representative of every single entry within the Pokédex. As part of this project, I intended to complete the regional Pokédex of each mainline region within one of the games in which that region is first featured. For extra fun, I set out to solo each game with my starter Pokémon without evolving it.
X/Y Pokedex Diploma
Why? Maybe a sense of urgency as the future connectivity of earlier generations is uncertain. More likely boredom. In any case, I am almost done. I figured I could share here the trials and tribulations of my experience in case anybody was interested. This post is about the sixth game in this project, but here are links to the first five posts on this journey:
Save Summary
12/18/2023
Sixth Game: Pokémon Y
Featured Region: Kalos
Chosen Starter: Froakie
Starter Level First Finish: 100
Restaurant Le Wow Meals: ~20
In-Game Time to Complete: 58:08
Total Time Spent: ~70 hours
It has never been more apparent how easy X and Y are given I managed to get my starter to level 100 before the first champion battle and snagged the legendary in my second playthrough in 12 hours. Power-Up Punch was nice, but Double Team felt a little cheap, even though it was rarely necessary. I didn't bother fighting the elite four again since the Lumiose restaurants are quicker, yield more experience, and make you rich. There were 450 Pokemon to capture in this regional dex, not counting the legendary birds and Mewtwo (which the game does not require). I'm still suffering from my earlier poor decision-making and having to recollect Pokemon from previous generations that appear in this regional dex, though this time I did not have to repeat Gen 5.
None of the Kalos Pokemon were particularly challenging to get (and there were very few of them to begin with), but some of the returning entries from the national dex were somewhat difficult. The Sneasel and Gligar evo items cost 48 Battle Maison points each, and Banette only had a chance to appear in one trash can once a week. I could have save-scummed, but instead I transferred a Bannette holding a Razor Claw from Omega Ruby and a Gliscor from Black. EZPZ. I did not forget to grab every size of Pumpkaboo and Gourgheist, but I will forgive myself the task of somehow acquiring every form of Vivillon. Maybe later. Thanks Friend 1 for your copy of Pokemon X and thanks Friend 2 for the extra 3DS that is still in my possession.

Why? Maybe a sense of urgency as the future connectivity of earlier generations is uncertain. More likely boredom. In any case, I am almost done. I figured I could share here the trials and tribulations of my experience in case anybody was interested. This post is about the fifth game in this project, but here are links to the first four posts on this journey:
Last Hall of Fame Entry
12/02/2023
Fifth Game: Pokémon White
Featured Region: Unova
Chosen Starter: Oshawott
Starter Level at First Finish: 76
Total Hall of Fame Entries: 15 (16)
In-Game Time to Complete: 53:32
Total Time Spent: ~86 hours
I stand by the quality of this generation and how replayable it is. Two full playthroughs and one destroyed copy of Pokemon Black 2 later, and Unova is in the rear-view. Beating this Elite Four with a basic starter was much easier than the past few generations thanks to Swords Dance. In Gen 3 I did both playthroughs with a basic starter, and that wasn't rewarding enough to do again. This second playthrough I did a mono-Normal team comprised of Stoutland, Patrat, Unfezant, Cinccino, Sawsbuck, and Bouffalant. This was much more entertaining. Special thanks to Friend 1 for letting me borrow your copy of Pokemon Black.
Also worth mentioning for those that don't already know is that the reason Zekrom was in my party for the first finish is because there is no way to proceed without it if there is space in your party. I did not actually use it. The obligatory impossible-to-get Pokemon for this generation was Zorua. Because my dog appreciates the taste of DS cartridges a little too much, my original plan to get Zorua from the gift encounter in B2W2 was shot to pieces. I don't have access to an event Celebi or an event shiny legendary dog to get the in-game Zorua gift, so my only option was to leverage a service called Wiimmfi to retrieve random Mystery Gifts until I got the Summer 2011 Zoroark.

2024.05.13 03:57 Top-Alternative8187 Which generation 5 game should I get?

Gens 4 and 5 are the only pre-Switch games I haven't played and I want to change that. I'm starting with gen 5 between the two, because I want to ultimately be able to migrate my Pokemon from HG/SS that have just been sitting there, to pokebank/home. I kind of want to get Black 2 or White 2 because I want the more diverse Pokedex for the main game, does it matter that I've never played the first ones? Also I can only find cheap ones online that are in Japanese, which I can't read, otherwise they're expensive, so I was thinking about looking up an emulator, but I don't know if I would be able to transfer the Pokemon to pokebank using that.

2024.05.09 21:35 Verdragon-5 Pokemon commonly kept as pets in-universe

So I'm trying to figure out what kinds of Pokemon would fit naturally into a suburban environment, since there haven't been any Pokemon games with really substantial suburban areas (some of the routes in Black and White kinda scratch that itch, but a lot of them are also influenced by other biomes, like Route 4, which does have buildings, but is also in the middle of a massive desert/construction/archaeological site). I decided to break things down into categories, one of which is pets, and while it includes a lot of the dog and cat Pokemon, I was also wondering what Pokemon in-universe have been seen being kept as pets or are otherwise mentioned as being commonly kept as pets by the Pokedex or other sources?

Pokemon white 2 not showing edited pokemon as caught
[EDIT] I figured out a solution. I had to use pkhex to edit the pokemon, and that let me change the origin game to Black 2, which fixed the problem.
I've been playing a rom hack of white 2 and I want to complete the pokedex so I've been using a save editor to give myself the other two starters and any version exclusives when I get to the areas where you can catch them. The edited pokemon are in the game and work normally but they're not showing as caught in the pokedex. In the screenshot you can see that when I evolved my tepig, it registered pignite as being caught but tepig isn't. For most pokemon I can just breed them, to register all the evolutions, but I can't do that for zekrom.
Any way I can fix this?
I'm using this save editor, and the rom is hacked to replace trade evolutions, so I'm not sure if that would have anything to do with the issue.

2024.05.07 18:36 zeddypanda Damage is still not what you think: How "Explosive" damage works

A couple of months back there was a fairly popular post by u/Bluedot55 :https://www.reddit.com/Helldivers/comments/1azh9fw/weapon\_damage\_isnt\_what\_you\_think\_and\_isnt\_what/
He made some testing, came to a conclusion that aligned with his data, but I saw there were weapons missing on this table, and redid the experiment using all of the game's primaries and secondaries along with some support weapons. That was over a month ago and I've been having sleepless nights over the results since.
We have both, independently, continued to dig into the matter, and a lot of other people have as well.
More extensive testing of this nature was performed by u/Key_Negotiation_9726, now compiled in his excellent DiversDex: https://www.reddit.com/Helldivers/comments/1cec9l4/diversdex_your_pokedex_but_for_helldivers_2/
The tests have not made a point of firing every shot at point-blank. That's fine for practical purposes. You can simply refer to the charts and know how many shots you'll roughly need to kill a thing. For the purposes of deducing the exact damage values and enemy HP, I still needed to dig deeper. For those out of the loop, testing has confirmed that damage drops off over distance for the majority of weapons:
https://www.reddit.com/Helldivers/comments/1bwbo78/guns_lose_damage_over_distance_as_soon_as_they/
Progress in datamining by people much smarter than I am reveals a second damage number for each source of damage. I was made aware of it through this thread: https://www.reddit.com/Helldivers/comments/1c40xkg/weapon_armor_penetration_values_helldive
At the time I didn't know what to make of it. After joining heads with other researchers and testers at the Helldivers wiki (https://helldivers.wiki.gg/) we were able to make leaps of understanding on the matter. I couldn't have gotten to this point without their data and extensive testing.
This extra damage value is sometimes referred to as "Durable damage" or "Damage vs massive body parts". This number is 6 for Liberator (close to the 10% suggested by Pilestedt) and 15 for Penetrator (more of a 33%). For Dominator this is 90, which is about 33% of full damage. The answer to "Is Dominator doing explosive damage?" can be concluded with "yesn't". Glad I could clear it up and prevent any future debates on that one.
The majority of explosions have 100% durable damage, and support weapons are all over the place, generally leaning into "More than a primary, that's for sure". I have listed these values on my stat site as far as I know them:
https://invadersfromplanet.space/helldivers-2/
The wiki might add them once they've been verified more thorougly. The general rule of thumb is that durable damage is 10%, rounded down. Liberator is 60/6, Diligence is 125/13 (or 125/12, it's unclear to me).
Some noteworthy high rollers on durable:
Weapon Dmg Dur Ratio Notes
AC-8 Autocannon 410 410 100.00%

LAS-5 Scythe 350 70 20.00%
ARC-3 Arc Thrower 250 50 20.00%
RS-422 Railgun (Safe) 600 60 10.00%
All the rocket launchers and grenades seem 100% as well.
Does this explain Brood Commander's head? Not yet. If you just plop in the results 16 x 5 vs 8 x 15, you find that this time it's base Liberator that needs significantly less damage than Lib Pen. Just like Lib Pen is an in-between gun, Brood Commander's head is an "in-between" massive body part. A body part can be anywhere between 0%-100% durable, and it seems like Brood Commander's is 60%.
What does this mean? It means take 40% damage from normal damage, 60% from durable. For Liberator that's: (60 * 40 + 5 * 60) / 100 = 27
But hitting armor it reduces to half and becomes 13.5
Lib Pen is (45 * 50 + 10 * 50) / 100 = 30
Lib Pen exceeds the light armor and stays at 30.
8 * 30 vs 16 * 27 suggests Brood Commander's head has 200 HP.
Now you may object and say "Maybe armor isn't 50%, it's a 60%, that's why Lib Pen needs that much less shots. Your mechanic is made up." The recent balance change brought about an interesting counter-example: Liberator Concussive. Defender (70/7) needs 13 shots to kill Brood Commander's head, but Liberator Concussive needs only 12 (65/15) owing to its secretly buffed durable damage. With two guns having an equal amount of penetration yet the lower damage gun needing fewer shots for a kill, it's clear that there has to be more going on. Accounting for 60% durable, Defender is 33.2 damage per shot, and Lib Con is 35 before armor reduction.
That leaves one oddity, which is how a 400 damage impact grenade doesn't immediately pop Brood Commander's head. I believe this to be because radial attacks have no interaction with brood commander heads, just like with helldiver heads. (Rockets headshotting you kill you because of the rocket's direct damage, the explosion is not multiplied.) Notice how some weapons like Plasma Punishere kills Brood Commander faster with body shots than headshots. The direct portion (70 partial) goes to the head, then the explosion (150) touches the body behind the head instead, and these two have seperate health pools.
So what's the takeaway from all of this?

2024.05.06 11:27 Critical-Audience743 Idea for the Post Game... "Benga and the Rings of Hoopa"

Idea for the Post Game...
I know we didn't get gen 5 remake/post ID sequel but that doesn't mean we won't get gen 5 hints in Legends ZA. Like outside of the main plot of the game of course, we don't want to overshadow Zygarde and his storyline.
Instead this could be a great way to utilize Hoopa and his Hoopa Rings (as post game content)
And who better to guide us to through that concept than, Alder's Powerful but Forgettable Grandson, Benga.
If you don't remember Benga...let me give you a reminder.
Like Iris, (and as of recently) Drayton, and Lacey, Benga is a super duper relative prodigy from none other than the Unova Champion, Alder. Benga runs the black towewhite forest in Black and White 2. He basically is the new \"battle facility\"-styled guy for BW2.
I bring up the BF since it important later...but back to Benga.
As of 2024, Benga hasn't been added to Masters, and his only mention was Alder saying this...in 2020 (if I believe)
So bro bring has been missing like Mighty and Ray in Sonic Lore
For all the sonic fans...you get this reference but back on topic.
Like I think Benga, WOULD be the perfect character to be a faller. Fallers work really well as obscure characters that only OG fans would recognize. Really Looker (so far at-least) is the only recognizable one:
Like Anabel and Ingo, they were very much deep cuts, regulated to extra content, and most people did not know who they were since they were locked behind, like in many battles.
If you notice carefully, you realize there is a pattern of Ingo and Anabel being characters from the games' battle facilities.
https://preview.redd.it/5rmqkx3ipryc1.png?width=3000&format=png&auto=webp&s=47f706d15f54aa21ba5605e6616ed7c8292d200f
So next would either be Black ToweWhite Forest or Battle Maison, which kind of leads back to the post Khu said a few months ago.
We thought this about Hydrapple and Archaludon but by this time, I believe...but looking back on it now...I don't think it was for those two.
Check out that text... and date!
Did bro KNOW all that was away from back then Benga might be here? Since Black Tower and White Forest, the thing is literally his facility!
Along with all of the cut content for SV's DLC 2, it wouldn't surprise me if they were going to introduce Benga back into the games (maybe as the champion of Unova right now and a superboss instead of Cyrano) but then decided against it since they had...
And now bro is going back to France and losing his entire memory...
NOW, REALISTICALLY, we have had two Gen 5 fallers in a row (assuming Benga is the one in the game), so it would make more sense to have one of the sisters from the Battle Maison do it.
However, they lack even less character than Benga does and aren't as popular (and Benga is barely known by most people). The sisters lack any character besides Morgan (the green one), and I feel I wouldn't be appropriate to return to serve the story with Hoopa.
And incase you don't know Morgan...
So I'm going to be pairing Benga with Hoopa. But trust me! This will make sense!
Benga's role in the Hoopa sideplot works well because he and his family have a great deal of knowledge about legendary/mythical Pokemon and have fought against them throughout the franchise's history.
Alder, his grandpa, fought (and lost) against Zekrom/Reshiram in BW1.
https://preview.redd.it/c70wwj8qtryc1.png?width=710&format=png&auto=webp&s=47eb6e887b17c9642e47c7cec14bf688e6b33991
Benga owns Latios and Latias in BW2, and might be able to give the mega stones or advice about how to track them down to the player in the Legends ZA through the hoopa storyline thing.
https://preview.redd.it/zpujy13stryc1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=0fb356dd454283b825eba731b8f1465cc629614c
And very recently, we learned that Bro's ancestor was friends with almighty Sinnoh himself.
His ancestor was friends with god!
So, his being a faller could be cool and make sense for another reason that I'll mention.
So let's write the story for it. Shall we?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Story and Hoopa's involvement

Perhaps prior to the beginning of the game, an Adult Benga was hunting Hoopa (for reasons unknown to the player when we meet him at first.).
https://preview.redd.it/ne6tkf99yryc1.png?width=500&format=png&auto=webp&s=3384584ea31b2b361913c117a245187842c6a1ca
But got way over his head and got dragged into on it's rings and got lost in time. Losing part of his memory in the process.
Bro got dunked on...fr...
Due to this...
Benga is now a faller-esa character.
Along with his memory. Benga loses some his pokemon, and starts to spout out nonsense to the people of constructed lumiose about Hoopa, which causes him to look like a madman since he is speaking a thick american accent in the middle of a mostly French dominated city.
So his the town's McGuckin and you are told to stay away from him from the main characters of the main story, since they worry that he might drive you mad. They mention he jumps off the small houses like a mountain man and you can slowly can put the pieces together about who they are talking about.
The apple doesn't far from the tree..eh
Naturally, your curiosity gets the better of you, and you interact with Benga and gives you tasks to find the Hoopa Rings. But he tells you, that HE will be the one to catch Hoopa and that he can just be his "Sidekick in crime".
I would imagine, Benga is kinda like a mixture of Carmine and Blue as he grew up. He is pretty cocky and rightfully so, but he deeply cares for others that he considers friends. But doesn't know how to vulnerable so he laughs them off. But he does care for the player.
Once you do all of the hoopa ring quests, you are told by Benga that he had located Hoopa and that he slowly remembered why he was looking for it in the first place.
Benga would reveal that was trying to save another faller in Ingo, who had recently gone missing due to unknown reasons, but it seemed to have something to do with time-space energy.
https://preview.redd.it/h54uqe1nwryc1.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=a6960f74edbf7d17fe7a8754e1807cac853cad2f
And with the Unova League's being busy, he took up the mission to save him for younger his brother's sake (Emmet, the guy with the white suit). And claimed it would be "light work" but he GREATLY underestimated the power of Hoopa.
Benga is worried for you, since he fought against this monster himself, and decides to test you in a full on 6v6 match. He throws everything he has at you...to the point where he unleashes a new unseen mega evolution.
That's right, bro got a mega volcarona...and it is a power house like the normal one only like 1.5x better.
After this harsh battle, Benga is defeated, and he gives you the mega stone... with a snarkly line like, "PFFT...you can have it...I'll find a STRONGER one when I get home anyways..." with the implication being that bro knows you can do better with it than he can.
You then set out to go catch Hoopa, and once you do, Benga asks Hoopa to bring Ingo here.
Hoopa does so and we get a very SMALL cameo of Ingo appearing, confused since he was just in "hisui" and Benga looks at the player (And the audience) and says, "That means Sinnoh, he was in sinnoh."
Hoopa then sends both of them to the future, with Benga thanking before they leave. And that ends the small sidequest.
I think this would be a great way to use Hoopa, since if a champion-level prodigy like Benga couldn't defeat it...that says alot.
Also would be a great way to reintroduce Benga, like Ingo, it might put him back on the map and make a fan favorite for his cocky yet kind nature. Also would be cool if he finally starts looking more like Alder in his adult years.
I wouldn't want this interject with the main plot, but rather by like a role similar to how ORAS did the hoopa rings which would allow the player to catch legendaries that aren't relevant to the story and serve as filler for the pokedex.
Also could fixing the mistake of actually letting us catch Hoopa AFTER WE DO ALL OF THESE DAMN RINGS!
God....that stuff in ORAS always bothered me.

  • Born in Wyndon on 25th October 2004, he and his parents lived there for two years before moving to a nearby town after getting into a more stable financial situation.
  • He had younger twin siblings, one brother and one sister, on the 5th of July 2007.
  • He passed the trainer's license exam once he turned 10. He caught Gear (Sneasel) while travelling down to Wyndon with his family shortly after getting his license. Shortly after, he created his PWC account to use Gears energy for more constructive activities and not destroy furniture.
  • Gear (Sneasel) evolved into a Weavile on his 13th birthday after Gear stole the razor claw (it cost like £150) in the middle of the night that he had purchased to evolve Gear eventually.
  • He was 15 when Eternatus was released, bringing about the second darkest day. He wasn't personally affected by it much outside of the emergency alert going off on his phone in school (it got taken away, he wasn't allowed it on him during school, stupid secondary school rules and all that) and needing to take cover under a desk. He found it interesting that a strong enough trainer could defeat a legendary Pokemon like Eternatus, so he decided to try to ‘defeat a legendary Pokemon’ at some point in his life.
  • When he was 16, he did a Pokemon journey training course at school, where he had to walk for a week straight with a heavy bag full of equipment on his back. He hated the experience and decided not to go on a journey.
  • He moved into university dorms when he was 18; he had an uneventful first semester, during which he talked to basically no one.
  • He learnt about his Uni’s Pokemon trainer society at the start of the second semester and started attending the weekly tournaments.
  • His siblings got a Pokemon of their own while Evan was at uni.
  • During the second half of the second semester, he caught Flash (Pidgey) and Wire (Sobble) during a wild area trip after he realised Gear would be better behaved with more Pokemon around. Catching Wire was accidental; he wanted to catch Flash.
Most of his character notes (more in-depth into his personality, some battling things, weirdly niche stuff, my ideas of him, etc) some of its probably missing because I forgot to add it:
  • Evan is supposed to represent the average civilian life, with pokemon, in the Pokemon world. His life probably isn't as average anymore considering the barely above average number of pokemon he owns and Gears overall power level, but there are still plenty of normal people living like he does. His daily life isn't like a pokemon professor or trainers, he lives normally with pokemon, which is what I want to portray.
  • I want his story to stay grounded, his experiences should be similar to most normal people owning Pokemon, if a bit exaggerated to make it more interesting. Things are going to be difficult, the highs will be high and the lows will be low, but the stakes shouldn't be very high. It's his life after all, everything is related to each other, which is also why I use the casual tag for everything, it's not like I can just make a storyline for ‘Life in General’. He's a normal person with Pokemon, his life isn't ever going to have the thrill of a trainer on a journey, it's only going to be grounded struggles and grounded experiences… well, as grounded that you can get with supernatural animals.
  • I tried to make him a slightly interesting character with some depth. He’s a normal person who’s lived a normal life so his background isn’t interesting at all and he doesn’t have any weird gimmicks either to make him distinct. So I tried just making him feel like a real person you could meet.
  • Three Pokemon is the absolute limit I can realistically give him before just turning him from an average person in the Pokemon world into a full-on trainer who has a ‘didn't go on a journey’ gimmick. He isn't the kind of person who can manage six Pokemon in the first place; he was barely managing one and three, and he is now pushing his abilities to their limit. It will test Evan even more if they start evolving to their following stages. Three is a good number, plenty of cat owners have three cats, just think of Pokemon as cats… difficult cats, but still cats.
  • I gave Evan a Weavile as his partner pokemon due to it being an ideal pokemon to show how difficult it is to actually look after a Pokemon for a normal person. It's small enough to be similar to a housepet, it's a dark type so it would have difficult quirks to manage, they're intelligent enough to be more of a nuisance than an average animal, and they're similar to a cat so I can base quite a lot of his irritating behaviours off of them, as well as cats being a common pet to own. I also just like Weavile… which is the main reason… lol.
  • I considered quite a lot of pokemon for his second and third catches. I decided on Sobble as I feel that it would be easier to write scenarios for them compared to other pokemon, even it's evolution line is its own story in itself. Other pokemon I thought about giving him was a Treecko, Applin, Rowlet, and Mudkip. While Pidgey is one of my favourite flying types, I have also considered a few other Pokemon for this slot but eventually decided on Pidgey due to my perception of their personality fitting the dynamics of the team the best. I considered giving him a fletchling, hoothoot, tailow, torchic and rookidee for this slot as well. I wanted, if possible, the pokemon to be a mammal, bird, and reptile/amphibian, I didn't want there to be an overlap, so I’m satisfied with what I chose. I needed to add them, i was running out of ideas for what Gear can actually do at this point that's actually unique, i need more ideas. Plus, it helps move Evans character along by making him suffer some consequences for not planning out stuff well.
  • The pokemon he catches are rather rare, which I believe may be an issue to him representing an ‘average’ person, but at this point he isn't really very average. He's definitely toeing the line of what I would consider an average civilian in the pokemon world due to him actually training the ‘housepet’ pokemon he caught to a high standard. Giving him a starter pokemon would be weird for an average person, but it isn't too outlandish considering it's based off of a chameleon, they're exotic enough animals, but they aren't exactly strange.
  • He trains as a hobby, and even as he gets more serious about it (training 3 Pokemon), it will remain a hobby and nothing more.
  • He's a decent student, mostly getting 2:1s in assignments and tests, but he will get 1st if it's a straightforward subject.
  • He wants to go to Pokemon tournaments, not for the money; he won't win it anyway, to get better at battling. He wants to improve his skill as a battler while also understanding that it simply isn't feasible to make a living as a pro because he's not that good at battling; he'd also probably lose all passion for it as a hobby if he made being a trainer a career.
  • Evan is a good trainer, what makes him good is his consistency. He will not miss a single day of training, because if he did then Gear would probably kill him. Gear and Evan had been together for nine years, and every single day they trained. Gear had passed his growth period a while ago and the training nowadays is mostly just keeping up his condition. His empathetic and observational skills developed to an impressive degree because of Gear, he has to figure out when Gears about to do something naughty, because otherwise Evan would get in trouble. Gears training routine has stayed consistent for a few years, they’ve pretty much got one nailed down at this point… but Gear doesn’t like that Evan gets to do nothing while he does his routine so he makes Evan exercise with him. On the plus side, Evan‘s in shape. Evan is also very good at learning from his mistakes and then adapting to improve his training, Gear was a very annoying Pokemon to train from the ground up so they naturally developed. He shows off all of these skills when training Wire and Flash, who are both also frustrating Pokemon to train (not to the same degree of a freshly caught Gear), as Evan is handling it surprisingly well by utilising these skills.
  • A flaw he in his training style has is being too impatient, he likes immediate solutions to solve issues. He also got complacent with Gear after he house-trained him, so now he's somewhat unused to training Pokemon from the ground up.
  • However, his battling skills are sub-par. While he is a good trainer, he's not a good battler. He's grown complacent with his skills as Gear can take out most Pokemon that aren't on his level, leading to him just mindlessly commanding using his gut, which means he has no adaptational, observational or critical thinking skills in battles. Think of him as a boxer who's only done conditioning, he could take out any normal person with ease, but the instant he's against someone at his level, he crumbles. Fortunately, most casual trainers are fairly similar situation as him, and Evan doesn’t crumble that badly under pressure, but it's still not a great situation. Fortunately, he has been working on improving his actual battling skills since he started participating in his universities local tournaments.
  • He doesn't like losing and will usually blame the matchup/seeding for his loss rather than his actual skill. He has too big of an ego for someone who is not good at battling. He learns from his mistakes in training and will strive to do better since it's entirely his fault if he messes up and hurts his Pokemon, but battles have more factors that he can blame. He has since gotten less of an ego after being told that he isn't even a top 1000 battler so there's no point in being so prideful.
  • The main reason he isn't an amazing battler is because he is really good at ‘telepathically’ communicating intent, but it's a two way street, Gear also communicates his intent to Evan, leading him to making rash commands. from a ‘gut feeling’. If he stops just following what Gear wants, he'd be a very solid battler, but right now he's just controlled by it.
  • Evan is a shitposter, so he will post random stuff, and he will argue with people in Twitter comments; he doesn't do it on this subreddit due to the post needing to relate to Pokemon. So, instead, he complains about his life with Pokemon and random stuff related to the Pokemon world. He's a prime example of an average Twitter user.
  • His online persona isn't how he acts offline. Offline, he's quiet and only really becomes talkative around people he trusts/those who share similar interests; whenever his Pokemon cause trouble, he is annoyed that he now has to talk awkwardly with a stranger. He doesn't care online and will get into petty arguments because he has nothing better to do with his time.
  • If someone doesn't have hobbies similar to him, he won't be interested in getting to know them; he doesn't talk to them at all. He'd probably be more interested in interacting with them if they have similar hobbies. If someone doesn't share the same amount of enthusiasm that he has over something, like a favourite game or getting better at battles, he'd likely lose interest in them and will respect them slightly less.
  • Evan and Gear never tried that hard when training; if Gear got bored or tired, they'd stop. They put in a bit of effort until it stopped being fun. They aren't that strong; their lack of ability to work hard proves that. However, a consistent small effort over nine years builds up strength regardless. Evan's lack of ability as a commander holds them back from being truly strong, but they have a very good base for the foundation that needs one more piece to be perfect. Either Flash and Wire will be that piece that stops Evan from relying on a flowchart and starts truly using his head meaningfully, or he’ll remain an incompetent commander and make and rely on two new flowcharts for them until he gets bored of battling.
  • He made his username when he was 11; he's had it so long that he doesn't want to change it despite it being cringe.
  • He‘s impulsive; he doesn't always look that far into the future to see the consequences of his actions. He caught Flash and Wire because he wanted more Pokemon to train, but he didn't consider how big they could get. If he thinks something, he’ll probably end up doing it.
  • He holds grudges; his memory is quite good, so he will remember if someone slights him or does something petty because he will then do petty stuff back.
  • He doesn't like keeping Pokemon in their Pokeballs, not for ethical reasons; he likes them being around and interacting with him, even if they infuriate him. At this point, he's too invested in keeping them outside and saying that he keeps them outside of their Pokeball and that when they get bigger, he’ll leave them outside of their balls because he's stubborn and dislikes being hypocritical. He also thinks it's cheating, it's too easy to just put a misbehaving Pokemon into their ball and only let them out when needed, training a wild Pokemon to not act like it's a wild pokemon is also important, it's not like they're fighting machines, they need to live their life.
  • He would like to beat a legendary Pokemon in a battle, not a sub-legendary, but a big one like Rayquaza or Eternatus. He says he wants to do this to prove his agency, but he may also be insecure of his place in the world and just wants to prove that he deserves and can fight for his right to exist. Keep in mind that while this feat is not a very realistic thing to do, in this universe, it is doable by someone with a strong enough bond and plenty of strength, considering that Leon fought Eternatus alone, relatively evenly at that, for a pretty decent amount of time. It'll probably be doable when he's older, wiser, and has more than one strong Pokemon. If he fights one as he is, he'd probably just get swatted away and then be depressed for a week or two.
  • Evan isn't a good singer; he can mostly get the notes right, but they're usually out of tune, just enough that it's painful to listen to. His voice isn't up to par.
  • He feels a need to be liked by people. Usually people don't hate him, he's an overall likeable person. If they don't like him, he’ll probably try to make them like him. And if they still don't like him, then he interprets that as them hating him, and then he’ll do the same, he will despise them despite them likely not feeling the same way
  • He has high-functioning autism. He felt different, he didn't know why, for the first few parts of his childhood before really catching onto being different and then using his above-average memory to remember what to do in social situations to not act so alien. It's an insecurity, he doesn't really like saying he has it, and he isn't really proud of it either, but he acknowledges that he wouldn't be himself if he didn't have it, if he had the choice to get rid of it, he wouldn't do it. He just feels like it is a burden. He has a pretty high amount of empathy, but he struggles to act on it when around people, but he doesn't struggle with acting on it when with Pokemon, which is a strength when it comes to being a trainer. He hated his practice journey because it was just so different to his normal routine that it overwhelmed him and made him give up on doing a gym challenge on the spot. He is stubborn about his beliefs and refuses to change them. He’s not great at masking it in person either. Though, people don’t really dislike him… he’s got that acoustic rizz when it comes to talking about Pokémon, lol.
  • He finds his family annoying, but he does love them… he'd never say it because it's embarrassing. If anyone else calls his family annoying, he will get annoyed at them; only then can he make fun of his siblings: older sibling privilege and all that.
  • He liked watching Pokemon anime, and it's one of the main reasons he caught a Pokemon. It's bland and formulaic now, so he's stopped watching it, but he did grow up with it.
  • Evan will often tweet wherever his state of mind is; whether it's thoughtful or not, he’ll tweet whatever.
  • Evan is quite empathetic; he often thinks about the Pokemon and trainer as separate entities and will usually consider the Pokemon's thoughts and beliefs and the trainer's.
  • Evan is a vegetarian, not being at least vegetarian is illegal in Galar, but morally he also finds the idea of eating Pokemon disgusting, believing that people who would even consider it are sociopathic. Just the idea of eating them makes him mad.
  • He is very punctual, he usually times his meetings perfectly to show up exactly on time, maybe one of two minutes early. He dislikes being late, and dislikes it even more when others are late.
  • Evans an atheist, he doesn't belief in any God, and to him legendaries are still just Pokemon. He doesn't want to worship them because then he'd be treating them like they're omnipotent and untouchable when he very clearly wants to beat one of them in a battle, he needs to view them as beatable for it to even be possible for him to ever have the possibility of victory.
  • Evan can't just travel to other regions, it's expensive and he's busy doing University. He’ll be unlikely to do events outside of Galar.
His Pokemon:
Gear (Weavile)
Gender: Male
Personality type: ENTP
Notes:
  • Was young when caught
  • He took one year to house-train
  • Evan mostly thinks of him as an annoying younger sibling, but at points sees him as a good friend. They both see each other as important figures in each other's lives.
  • He loves battling and causing trouble, torments the new catches (mainly Wire), and mostly acts like a big brother... just not a very responsible one.
  • He finds ghost types annoying because they try cursing/stealing people's souls and always scare them off by chasing them. He finds it fun to scare them off or just let out some of his energy.
  • He will scratch furniture if he hasn't battled for a while. He will steal stuff if he feels like it. He's very annoying. He's been doing it less since Evan caught more Pokemon for him to ‘play’ with.
  • Think of him as a more intelligent cat with more tools to be annoying.
  • He needs both stimulation and social interaction to be satisfied. Before, he didn’t have much social interaction so the stimulation he needed was turned up to 11 and he was being annoying to get that stimulation. Now he has teammates, the social interaction has been quenched and he isn’t acting out as much. This doesn’t mean he won’t stop being difficult, like he will annoy the other members of the team, but it will stop him targeting random people to get some entertainment.
  • He stays out of his Pokeball because Evan doesn't like it.
  • Sleeps in Evan's bed.
  • He is very into training and will make Flash and Wire train with him. He gets annoyed if Evan doesn't also exercise while he's training.
  • He's the main reason why Evan got into training and battles... Obviously...
  • Moveset: Night Slash, Icicle Spear, Low Kick, Agility
Flash (Pidgey)
Gender: Female
Personality type: ESFJ
Notes:
  • Prideful, somewhat vain, attention seeking and loud.
  • She will keep people up at night by being loud; it infuriates Gear.
  • She's quite lazy, she likes sleeping a lot and initially just used training time as a nap time since she saw no personal benefit to training. This issue went away after learning the fact that piegeot look way more attractive, but she needs to get stronger to evolve to that form.
  • She will peck at Sobble when he sleeps because it's funny and always scares him.
  • She enjoys flying around outside, will peck at his window and be very loud in general if she wants to be let out. However, sometimes, she wants to go back inside almost immediately after being let out, and she continues to be noisy.
  • If she isn't well groomed, she will be loud and annoying. Evans usually quite good about it, but every now and then he’ll forget and then it'll start another chain reaction of Wire crying due to the noise and then Flash gets louder because his tears irritate her eyes.
  • Despite being annoying, Evan keeps her out of her Pokeball. He doesn't like playing favourites, and Gear has done worse and not been put into his ball.
  • Gear doesn't find tormenting her very fun because she will be more annoying if he does.
  • She sleeps on a bird stand.
  • Think of her like an ordinary bird, doing everyday things like being loud. But this bird is now intelligent, so you know they're intentionally being loud.
  • Moveset: Gust, Tackle, Uproar, Sand Attack
Wire (Sobble)
Gender: Male
Personality type: ISFP
Notes:
  • Incredibly timid when around new people, lacks confidence, curious
  • He was accidentally caught while chilling in a lake when Evan missed his Pokeball throw at Flash, and it went into the lake, capturing him after he accidentally hit it. Evan didn't realise he was caught until he was already taken home.
  • He initially didn't really want anything to do with anyone due to the stress of being in a new environment, he eventually became comfortable enough to become visible for short periods of time, as well as allowing others to slightly interact with him. He is most comfortable with Evan, who's the least loud and energetic out of the three choices he could interact with, he likes climbing on him like a tree.
  • He is far more timid than the average Sobble. An average Sobble would stay invisible for 3-4 days before trying to interact with its trainer, it took Wire nearly two weeks. This trait will likely stay with him throughout his evolution line, just to varying intensities.
  • Gear enjoys tormenting him because he is too timid and weak to stand up for himself properly. Although it's not bullying, it's more how an older brother would push around their younger sibling.
  • He likes climbing on stuff, like Evan's clothes, when walking around.
  • He sleeps on Flash's bird stand.
  • He mainly relies on Evan to protect him from Gear and Flash's tormenting, but if stuff gets more serious, Gear and Flash will stand up for him.
  • Flash and Wire have a very irritating feedback look where Flash starts being loud at night, causing Wire to cry, which causes Flash to be louder, etc.… the first night they slept together was one of the worst experiences Evan has ever had.
  • He stays outside his Pokeball, usually hanging around on a counter and blending in.
  • He’s probably the least annoying one of Evan's Pokemon, which isn't difficult. However, he can be challenging to deal with while training due to his timidness, leading him to not put his all into training like the other two of Evan's Pokemon because he's embarrased. His tears are also an issue.
  • What you see is what you get with him; he's timid and quiet, so he’ll probably stay hidden around new people and still be quiet when around people he's comfortable with. But he is curious about the world, so he’ll usually try sneaking off to look at stuff.
  • Moveset: Water gun, growl, pound

Unique or not unique things to note about the Pokemon world (and thus Evans universe) that I headcanon:
  • The world is similar to the games one rather than the anime/manga. Look at Pokemon Masters Ex to know precisely what the characters were like and what they did. Though that's a mashup of different periods and universes, it's not exactly accurate, but the characters' roles and personalities are.
  • Universities are like our world; people attend lectures, labs, seminars, societies, parties, etc. These universities have trainer societies; most people have gone on journeys, but some haven't. Evans University hosts a 1v1 double elimination tournament every Thursday, depending on if it's a holiday or not, in a large battle court. There is a healing machine so Pokemon can regain their energy after battles. A smaller area was made for the people who wanted to battle more; friendly battles were held there on Tuesdays.
  • Schools usually have a whole mock journey expedition to train the kids who want to go on journeys, you know, to read maps, make their food, get water, and set up tents. That kind of stuff is beneficial. I have got to not have parents seem irresponsible in this world, plus, UK schools usually have practice expeditions for DofE, which I'm basing a lot of this journey walking stuff on (they're both physically challenging and usually end with people sitting in bed for a week because their feet hurt and they don’t want to do anything)
  • Trainers who have been on their journey but don't want to make a career out of it usually don’t keep all of their Pokemon with them. It's expensive to house them; after all, they typically take one, two or three Pokemon they're closest with and leave the rest of them with their parents/local pastures, or they release them if the Pokemon wants to continue battling consistently and the trainer can't provide that.
  • Pokemon training and battling outside of badge challenge league stuff is similar to VGC or Smogon in how they're running tournaments. There are rankings online (Pokemon World Coronation Series), and then there are also regionals which you can attend for Championship points; the big Worlds tournament is invitational, which you can only participate in after getting a certain number of champion points or having a high enough rank on the PWC series. There are official and unofficial tournaments, there are more unofficial tournaments, but official ones have higher prize pools and are generally larger.
  • It's easy to see people's rankings on the PWC series leaderboard; Leon was number 1 for his entire reign as champion but is now overtaken by Gloria, current Red isn't even in the top 50 (he's like 38 and has retired by now, face the truth, he’s washed).
  • The Pokemon League has very little political authority. Gym leaders, the Elite 4 and the Champion, closely resemble knights where they have the public's respect, plenty of personal strength, and a bit of autonomy to solve crises if they ever appear. However, they still have to do their jobs, so they can't leave their city for an extended time without getting in trouble.
  • Each Pokemon has its own unique personality, and they're usually very strong. It's unlikely for any one of them to just get used to you and behave on their first day. They're individuals and just because you give them food doesn't mean they'll like you immediately. I mean, some probably might, but considering you just caught them and took them to an unfamiliar environment, they aren't just going to do everything you expect from them.
  • A Pokemon intelligence is the same as their anime counterparts, basically they're smart enough to get around as the devs said. If I had to say, the average Pokemon has the same level of intelligence as a young child, some are above, some are below. However, none are as dumb as the smartest non-human animal, and all of them think in a pretty human way as well (language recognition, empathy, problem solving skills, etc.), though the way they think isnt exactly like humans due to being different species and having different needs and such.
  • Outside of the highly intelligent species, Pokemon cannot read or write, and even then, they must be taught how to do it fairly young, otherwise they wont be able to. The number of non-legendary Pokemon that can communicate telepathically can be counted on one hand. (I prefer a communication gap between Trainer and Pokemon; it makes the bond between species feel a bit more special). People don't turn into Pokemon here, and vice versa for Pokemon into people.
  • High and top-level trainers can use a weak form of the bond phenomenon where they can communicate their intent to their Pokemon mid-battle. Super in-depth commands and move commands are almost impossible, but if a command to use a move is given, you can convey your intent on how you want that move to be performed. It cannot be used to force your Pokemon to do something; it's more of a vague feeling that you're passing onto your Pokemon, and it can only be used if your bond with your Pokemon is powerful and there's a very high level of trust. It's a very weak form of telepathy connected purely through their bond. This phenomenon is also linked to mega-evolution, as mega-evolution requires you to have this with your Pokemon. The intent communication is made slightly more evident when the Pokemon involved is mega-evolved, going from a vague feeling to do something to a faint suggestion in their head. In his prime, Red had the most advanced form of it (words were literally unnecessary), but most top trainers don’t rely on it due to the unreliable nature of making Pokemon rely on ‘having a feeling’. It's kind of like how you could anticipate what someone's you're really close to is going to say, just dialed up to 11.
  • People and Pokemon don’t eat meat. Any meats seen are either incredibly similar artificial meats made from berries or have been naturally dropped by Pokemon. Eating Pokemon meats is illegal and morally despised in the majority of regions. Pokemon in the wild only eat berries that they gather or steal from other Pokemon, or they can get different foods from people if they live in towns or cities. Berries are magic; ignore contradictions (Pokedex entries, weird early Pokemon anime stuff) in lore; everything is sunshine and rainbows here. Keep in mind that Pokemon are sapient and have the intellect level of a high-functioning toddler, as well as most people having more than half a brain so they can see that Pokemon are very much capable of deep thought, complex emotions, empathy and a whole bunch of stuff.
  • Most people aren't superhuman here; some do have psychic or aura abilities if they have the natural ability to do it, and some fighting gym leaders and elite four train enough that they're basically peak human strength, but almost everyone doesn't have any of that and would instead not take any Pokemon attacks for fear of their life.
  • Pokemon have a similar lifespan to their trainer, too sad otherwise.
  • Legendary Pokemon are powerful, but a well-trained team and their trainer can defeat them because they're together while a legendary Pokemon is alone; this is also why no wild Pokemon can even take on well-trained Pokemon.
  • A Pokemon and a trainer's bond is a form of in-universe plot armour that can only be cancelled by another trainer and their Pokemon. The bond between trainer and Pokemon is the strongest force in the universe basically.
  • Fighting a trainer is a test of the mind; fighting a legendary Pokemon is a test of the bond between a trainer and a Pokemon.
  • Evolution items can be easy to find online, if a bit expensive.
  • The timeline post-dpp (RBG and RSE happen at the same time, and GSC and DPP happen at the same time three years after) is similar to the real world, where all the events in their respective games happen around the same time they were released.
  • All of the game protagonists exist, both male and female; Ash doesn't exist but is still an anime character (I will not let any of the weird anime stuff into this world; that timeline is way too much of a mess. Just ignore the likeness of the anime characters to real people; they look different enough because it's an anime art style). The specific roles and personalities of the protagonists depend on what they're like in Pokemon Master Ex, like whether they did the story/became champion (or if they only did e4 depends on whether their being champion is vital to their story, Gloria becoming champion is crucial because it finished Leon's character arc, Dawn becoming champion was not necessary so she only did e4)/were the rival or anything else, e.g. Serena did e4, Calem was the rival. Dawn did e4, and Lucas was prof Rowan's assistant. Hilbert beat Team Plasma and befriended N, Hilda battled e4, Etc…
  • There are new champions in other regions as the old ones have been knocked down/retired; time has passed, but I won't say who the new champions are because I’d somewhat not deviate too far from canon.
  • Pidgeys should be in Galar. The bird they're based on is common in the UK, so it makes sense. Thus, they're in Galar in this world.
  • Galar and Hoenn starters are somewhat ‘rare’, as in they’re hard to find, but they are native to Galar and can be found.
  • Most video games probably exist in this world, excluding Pokemon games; there are things resembling Pokemon games, but they are primarily just teaching tools for trainers. Pokemon Showdown also exists… or at least a different, official version of it. What if a game has a real animal in it? Uh… ignore it; it's a glitch in the matrix.
  • Pokedex entries are generally accurate, but keep in mind that Pokemon are usually capable of controlling their own body functions with enough care, e.g. That trubbish in BW that stopped smelling like trash after feeling loved. A magcargo can control their outward body temperature, a gardevour can localise their black hole, etc…
  • Arceus did create the world, but no one outside of Sinnoh really worships or treats him as God. They know he's an immensely powerful Pokemon, but that doesn't mean that they'll pray to him every Sunday. Like, some people in Unova treat Reshiram and Zekrom as deities as Ghetsis stated. I don't want to say that most people are atheist, but a lot of people probably don't want to worship a Pokemon. It'd make sense to have there be normal religions in the Pokemon World as well, it's not like the existence of a creator Pokemon would stop people from saying that an even stronger deity created the egg he came from. But I'm not entirely sure if I want actual religion in the Pokemon world, just treat it like Shrodinger’s cat and act like it both exists and doesn't depending on your religious beliefs. There's likely Shintō and Buddism since a lot of ways things work in the Pokemon world come from those beliefs, but since it's not actually stated in the games, treat it like how I said.

2024.05.02 22:11 Glittering_Way_4132 Potential starter candidates for Z-A?(a theory)

so,something I was thinking about as far as Z-A's potential starter candidates is how the starters for the previous game could influence this one's selection, and I noticed something about the starters in PLA, more specifically, one of the starters(the fire starter) was from a previous generation(in terms of setting and pokedex, PLA is a generation 4 legends game), and the other two were from the generation directly after 4(black and white/unova), and the final one was from 7. no, what I noticed is that this likely means that there will be two post-gen 6 pokemon and one from before generation 6 for Z-A. now let's go over what I would personally pick:
for the previous generation rep, I feel like it would 100% be empoleon, who could maybe even be the first starter to have two starter types on final evolution, being water-fire type, which is only otherwise held by volcanion.
the two other ones are a little harder, but if we stick with the theming with empoleon, you could get rillaboom for grass, with their evolution being an allusion to the military march fanfare used during that era of warfare.
I think the best choice for fire could very well be cinderace, maybe gaining the fire-fairy typing that has never been used, since fairy type was introduced in generation 6, but that's a stretch. I do like the idea of empoleon being water-fire type, that would be sick.

2024.05.02 17:36 Exaskryz XL Candy Goals: Rival Week 2024

Index

Quick interjection: Of the hemispherical regionals available in this event, only Zangoose is a viable option at XL candy levels. The rest do not play well. But being they are time (/space) limited, don't feel bad about prioritizing the one not native to you during the event each day. Who knows what a move shake up in the future might bring.

Spawns

You've probably seen various other infographics on the event. But to remind you of what's spawning in this event, we have:
Method Pokemon
Wild Alolan Sandshrew
Wild Mankey
Wild Poliwag
Wild Machop
Wild Lickitung
Wild Gligar
Wild Ralts
Wild Galarian Stunfisk
Wild May 4-6 Zangoose
Wild May 4-6 Seviper
Wild May 6-8 Throh
Wild May 6-8 Sawk
Wild May 8-10 Heatmor
Wild May 8-10 Durant
Raids are excluded in the mega analyses because you know what you're going to encounter and can plan accordingly on a mega if you need it, and they are behind paywalls to really grind them. Plus raids rarely tend to align with the actual event all the way through. Eggs are also excluded because megas don't affect them.

Lists for Targets at a Glance

Pokemon are listed in each category and league as explained here. Exact XL candy counts and rankings are further in the post.

Open rankings are from PvPoke as of [2024-03-02]. (Yikes, little outdated here... one day I'll find some free time to update this)

PVE:

Based on the infographic found here: https://reddit.com/TheSilphRoad/1bspkt9/ where Pokemon are tiered into S(±), A, B, C, D, E. Tier A contains the baseline Pokemon for a type, the tier you would want to build in if you had unlimited resources.
