I loved One Piece in my youth, I've read new chapters in "BANZAI!" (a try to bring a Shonen Jump equivalent to Germany), bought the first 20 volumes or such, watched the anime and these first arcs - I knew them pretty well. I have fond childhood memories of eating a bowl of cereals and reading arlong park for the 10th time.
But at some point I kinda lost the connection. I remember really disliking Skypeia, it was too fantasy for me, I was disappointed that "Luffy saving a kingdom" seem to be not an original plot to Alabasta and it was the first time where I was annoyed by pacing problems in One Piece (as a child lol). I stopped reading the manga. I still watched the anime from time to time on TV, but around Water 7/Enies Lobby I also didn't really bother with the anime too. It also didn't help that I grew up, got in my teenager years and was more interested in "serious, gritty" stories, One Piece was "childish" from my perspective back then. I guess its normal for many teenagers to split parts with their childhood loves and than come back as an adult.
In the last years I started reading a lot of manga again and my interest grew again in One Piece, especially knowing that we slowly went in to the final arcs and being a part of it when it ends. So I've started an attempt like 4 years ago at the start of the pandemic - Everything from Thriller Bark on was completely new to me - or at least largely. When I've read Summit War I realized I watched some highlights from the anime years back and had some spoilers already. But on Punk Hazard the manga lost me. Tbf, I was quite rushing a bit, not taking my time and thus felt a disconnect to many characters and story element because I was just skim reading at a point.
So when the Netflix live show came out last year I watched it - but didn't like it that much too be honest. While being a decent adaption, it failed to catch the magic of One Piece early arcs for me. The funny parts where not as funny as the original and the emotional parts were not as emotional - except maybe Namis "help me". But it did an excellent job in making me interest in One Piece again. So I started reading it again, from volume 1, starting in Octobre 23 - And I catched up with the current chapter today! Hooray!
This time I took my time, did slow down, not skim read anything and really absorbed all plot beats, characters, etc. and had much more fun with the arcs that are not as well known or unknow to me, from Thriller Bark on. I really enjoyed it and was positively surprised by the later post-time skip arcs, even Punk Hazard itself that broke my last attempt. But as much hype as the post time skip arcs are - I don't think they can ever meet my love to the earlier arcs. 1000s of characters, sun gods, nuclear weapons, world saving. Thats not my One Piece, not the One Piece I fell in love with. Its an truly modern epic that I am eager to see the conclusion with my own eyes, unraveling the last mysteries of the story (what was Luffys and Rogers dream that makes everyone laugh in disbelief - thats my most anticipated mystery), but its not the quirky found family on adventures that I learned to love in the early arcs. And Zoro laughed and made jokes, I miss that.
I also have a really unpopular opinion, please don't hit me: The world building is overrated. The world feels overly artifical and often doesn't make sense, only when only more artificial concepts get introduced. Having a big world doesn't mean good world building. One Piece true peak property are the characters, thats Odas secret sauce IMO. This guy can make me feel emotions even for completely unexpected characters like Senor Pink. His ability to write nuanced, funny, emotional, just real characters is off the charts.
To finish up, because I know fandoms love this, my tier ratings of every arc with small comments!

• Romance Dawn: A
  • The iconic origin story, but even more the introduction of Zoro. Zoro was such a bad ass, but back than he actually had character depth /s Loved the scene with him eating the trampled onigiri
• Orange Town: A
  • I saw this arc getting rated surprisingly low by many fans. I loved it, introduction of Nami and Buggy and some real badass moments, also emotional (the dog)
• Syrup Village: B
  • I remember being so mad at Kuro as a child, he is the first of a long one Piece tradition: Hateable villains. Also Usopp introduction, who might be one of my favorite characters
• Baratie: S
  • This was the first peak arc IMO. Sanji, also one of my favorite strawhats, with a phenomenal introduction and backstory (and he even gets a second emotional backstory much later on lol)
• Arlong Park: S
  • Peak-to-peak and even a bit better than Baratie. Namis story is the first real emotional moment for the strawhats climaxing in the famous "help me", followed by the iconic gang panel. Arlong also the first villain who was an actual threat.
• Loguetown: A
  • Short and sweet, introduction of a LOT of really important characters and plot points, although many of them get relevant only much later
• Reverse Mountain: C
  • The whole story with the whale and crocus just never got me, neither as a child nor now as an adult.
• Whiskey Peak: A
  • I thought it was a fun little introduction of the Grand Line, Baroque Works, Vivi etc. Also Zoros fight against 100 bounty hunter was just a cool showcase of his abilities and why he was already famous before joining Luffy. Also Robins introduction.
• Little Garden: B
  • Had some fun moments, I liked especially Sanjis call with Crocodile (still in the shadows), but was a bit too long for the story it told. (a recurring One Piece problem)
• Drum Island: A
  • Interestingly as a child I loved chopper, but really didn't like this arc. Now I absolutely loved it. Choppers backstory is tragic and one of the saddest for me, I always tear up here. Wapol was a disappointing villain, thats the only thing that keeps this from S-tier from me
• Arabasta: S
  • The first real epic arc. A menacing villain that brings Luffys first defeat to him. A desert Kingdom to be saved, ancient weapons buried in the sand. I LOVED this arc as a child and I still adore it today. But back than I thought that saving a kingdom was a unique plot structure for this arc. Little did I know it become the default plot structure for most of one pieces arc - a fact that saddens me still sometimes.
• Jaya: A
  • Robin joing the crew, super cool. Loved her funny moments with Luffy, generally these two have the best subtle friendship of the crew IMO (after that comes Zolo and Chopper). The arc itself was also sweet, Blackbeard introduction and again some important plot points that become relevant later.
• Skypiea: A
  • as a child I really disliked this arc as I described above, but now I quite like it. It has tons of fun exploration, secrets about the world of One Piece etc. Enel was also a very fun villain. But it also has some pacing issues in the middle, the most recurring problem of One Piece that gets worse in later arcs.
• Long Ring Long Land: A
  • haha I feel this is controversial, but I actually liked this arc. It was a breather after the epic finale of Skypiea and I honestly found it funny and entertaining. Also introduction of Kuzan and a showcase for Luffy that there are people out here who are still much stronger than him.
• Water 7: SS
  • Absolutely peak. Introduction of Franky and many other characters, so many emotional moments and character conflicts. IMO the best written One Piece arc to date. Oda on his absolutey best writing ability.
• Enies Lobby: A
  • While I loved every moment with Robin of course, her tragic backstory, but her testament of will to live. Absolutely great. Good fights also, I like CP9 as villains, but the raid (another recurring One Piece plot structure) was way too long IMO with some really unnecessary minor villains (that fucking noodle guy on the train omg).
  • Another downer a bit for me is the introduction of gear 2 and 3. While they are hype ofc they bring the first of many power creeps concepts to one piece. Also its the start of Luffys combat style becoming less creative and more "stronger punches". Which is a shame because I loved Luffys "old" combat style. Luckily gear 5 fixes that partly, but much later.
• Post-Enies Lobby: S
  • Generally I love the moments after the big epic arcs, but this one is especially good IMO. Really strong moments
• Thriller Bark: B
  • would've been almost a C if not for Kuma. The beginning is real fun but later it just drags and drags, way too long for the story that gets told, uninteresting villains etc. Brook gets introduced, but he is honestly the straw hat crew member I care the least about. I thing this is also partly caused with my biggest ick of the following arcs: Luffy going solo. Brock basically gets introduced only to not seen again for an eternity.
• Sabaody Archipelago: S
  • Really strong arc, comes to a point, brief but dramatic. Also a reality check for the straw hat crew. Unfortunately Kumas rescue split up the crew and thus followed a WAY TOO LONG run where we barely see the characters that everybody fell in love with.
• Amazon Lily: B
  • I liked Luffys adventures here, lot of fun and good character moments, but not too memorable.
• Impel Down: A
  • Interestingly I didn't liked it that much on first read 4 years ago, but I actually digged it this time. Also the drawing style is on fire here, I think around here starts Odas best run in terms of artistic drawing quality which lasts a long time until it gets too scribbly in recent arcs due to his eyesight problems.
• Marineford: A
  • This not being S will anger some people I feel haha. But while it was ofc super epic and the dramatic finale of the pre-TS era: It was super disappointing to me that the crew was not there for the dramatic finale of the first half of One Piece. Instead I got tons of characters I just did not care that much for. Even the death of ace was not very impactful to me - because I rarely got to see Ace, I hadn't really built a connection to him.
• Post-War: A
  • doesn't help that we NOW see more of Ace and Luffy. should've been beforehand at some point. But the flashback itself was cool. I also really liked the whole 2D2Y stuff, that was such a cool idea to let the crew know what the plan is.
• Return to Sabaody: A
  • just hype to see everybody post TS
• Fish-Man Island: S
  • I actually really loved Fish-Man Island. For the first time in a long time straw hats were exploring again, I also really loved the new characters, the art design, the backstory of the queen, backstory of arlong etc.
• Punk Hazard: B
  • I really disliked it when I canceled my first run, felt to chaotic and flimsy too me, a bit rushed. It actually got good exactly after I stopped reading it lol.
• Dressrosa: A
  • this one is so difficult to rate. It had so much stuff I loved so much, Doffy, the tragic backstory of Dressrosa, the spanish inspired setting, the Tontatta (Oda is so good with designing cute characters), Laws backstory, Usopp as hero, but it also had way too many characters, and dragged at some times soo hard, especially in the coloseum and in the birdcage. Could've brought probably down by 2-3 volumes without losing substantial story.
• Zou: B
  • Interesting exploration and world building, but not so much interesting plot besides Sanjis disappearance.
• Whole Cake Island: S
  • Might be my favorite of Post TS. Loved Sanjis story so much, he already was one of my favorite strawhats and this definitely underlined it. Many great characters, I love Big Mom, I love Pudding and Katakuri, I love that they actually don't plan to defeat the villain, but infiltrate, have a goal and leave immediately. It was a refreshing plot structure much needed for OP. Also loved Nami in it, finally she got something to do again and even Brook grew on me here - long after his introduction.
• Wano: A, almost B
  • another difficult to rate for me. The first two acts are great, cool introduction of the long teased country of Wano. Great backstories, especially the tragic fate of Wano. I also liked the strawhats spying and infiltrating the country, finally being all united. Sadly the strawhats also got kinda sidelined in this arc, most of them had not so much important things to do. Kaido was also a disappointing villain to me, just a bit boring as a character. But the biggest ick for me is the length again. 15 volumes! this could've been told in 10 volumes, maybe 11 or 12. The raid was so unbelievable dragging it was just not funny anymore.
  • I absolutely love gear 5. While I am still a bit unsure how I feel about Luffy being sun god nika - this feels way too much "chosen one" for one piece - I love the implementation of gear 5. Its brings the fun, cartoonish quality back that defined early One Piece to me. Remember when Luffy catched Arlong with a gum-gum-fingerfishnet or put Arlongs teath in his own mouth? Or when he pumped himself with water to fight Crocodile with a water tank on his back? Luffy was always cartoonish and silly, but creative in his ways to overcome his enemies, a quality that got lost in later arcs. Gear 5 feels like the perfect step back to the roots while also being a massive power up.
• Egghead: A with tendency to S, depending on how it concludes
  • seems like Oda took critique too heart but overbalanded in to the other direction. The pacing is actually TOO fast for me if I am being honest. But I love the futuristic setting, I love vegapunk, Kumas backstory was SO good and now in the last chapters its just hype moment after hype moment. Really curios to see how it will set the stage for the final saga. I also love that Vivi and Kingdom of Alabasta are becoming relevant again

If your parents are divorced, is your role in the family system consistent between the two households? I'm just now realizing that while I was the scapegoat in one, I've been the golden child in the other without ever realizing it and I don't know what to think or do.
I'm very sorry for the long post, I can't figure out which details matter and which don't.
My parents split up when I was two. My dad was my mom's second husband, and I was her only kid. My mom was my dad's third wife, and I was his third kid. I grew up with my mom, occasional visits with my dad.
My mom was a narcissist who (like most of them, I'm realizing) treated me like a favorite pet until I hit ten years old and became something more than an extension of her. Unfortunately, this is also roughly the time she began showing symptoms of late-onset paranoid schizophrenia, which runs in her family.
It went about as badly as you can imagine. I don't want to go into details but it went from "you're a mean child and an ungrateful monster who will never be as smart as me" to "you're working with the local government and the HOA and your father and Kaiser to spy on me and try and take my house". It was a living nightmare, just her and me, and gaslighting to make herself look better became gaslighting because she heard voices no one else did. Violence went from a punishment to unpredictable rage during fits of psychosis.
My two half-brothers are almost twenty years older than me, and I only got to meet them a handful of times as a child because my mom hated them and my father. I was only allowed to leave the house for court-mandated visits and school, so obviously I absolutely loved both. I excelled in school (other than homework I couldn't do without Internet and attendance) and worshipped my dad.
When I was 17, she had started threatening to kill me and herself. I woke up to her watching me through the place where my doorknob used to be. I moved out and got a cousin to cosign on an apartment for me and a slightly older classmate. She killed herself and our pet bunny a few years later. That was about ten years ago now.
My dad was the opposite. He always had gifts for me, couldn't say enough how smart and pretty and kind and so on I was, talked me up to everyone he met. I thought my mom was the only abuser and that my dad just made the mistake of falling into her clutches and couldn't get me out too when he left. I'm disabled as a result of my mother's parenting and some genetic predispositions.
One of my brothers lives in another state and doesn't talk to any of us. I only met him three times, so he's always been a mystery to me. My other brother hasn't worked for more than fifteen years, has some serious addictions, and has a criminal record involving stealing and selling drugs. Despite that, I can honestly say he's the kindest, most patient and loving person I have ever met in my life.
In the last year, that brother and I have gotten a lot closer as he's been taking care of our dad. And I'm realizing, to my absolute horror, that for my brothers' entire adult lives they've been treated like shit by our dad while having to hear about how wonderful I am. Every time one of them has asked him for help, they've had to hear about how I never ask for anything and my job and my academic accomplishments and so on.
I've learned more about their childhoods before I was born, and I'm realizing that I became the favorite for our dad because my mother had conditioned me to never, ever, ever ask for anything. I worshipped our dad for the few hours a week I saw him because he was nice to me, and it's easy to be nice to someone who worships you for a few hours a week. I succeeded in school and career stuff because it was the only place I was ever told anything about me was good or worthwhile and because I was desperate to survive.
It never occurred to me to ask what had happened to my brothers to put them where they were. I had always low-key resented them for having been able to grow up without being afraid their mom was going to kill them in their sleep. I had assumed without ever asking that my dad was as nice to them as he was to me, but full-time rather than on visitation days. And I had been angry and hurt that neither of them had ever tried to help me, despite being full-grown adults themselves while I was a child with no legal rights living in a house where I was not always allowed to eat or bathe and where I was constantly terrified.
Now I learn they never knew any of that any more than I knew how our dad treated them. And as the younger of the two has been literally washing shit off of our dad and cooking for him and taking care of him despite being essentially homeless himself, I've heard for the first time how our dad talks to him. And it sounds so much like my mother that I've been physically sick after calls.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? From either side? I thought I was the only child scapegoat, and now I learn at nearly 30 that everything I did to survive my childhood has been used to hurt my older brothers.

TLDR: basically the title. Overheard conversation where MIL was telling my 3 year old that he needs to practice sticking his tongue out to French kiss when he’s 15.
Full story: So my two sons (3 and 5) went over to my JNMIL’s yesterday because I was having a chronic pain flare and couldn’t handle all three of my kiddos at home at the time. Daughter (1) stayed home with me.
Original plan for that day after my husband got off work was he was going to mow her lawn and see if the boys wanted to come home. After not hearing anything about what the plan was all day, I checked the google cameras that we put up and paid for in MIL’s house after getting a notification that my husband was there. It’s often the only way we can get ahold of her because she never keeps her phone charged or with her. Original intent was to pop onto the camera and use the talkback feature to ask what the plan was. Till I heard the conversation that was going on.
My husband was trying to get my 3 year old to say “Gear” (3 has been in speech therapy for 6ish months and just had a tongue tie release at the beginning of this week) and JNMIL butts in, “what are you going to be practicing every day?”
My husband looked slightly confused and asked “what?”
MIL: “what is a long tongue important for?”
5 year old: “French kissing!!”
MIL: “So you practice sticking your tongue out every day and you’ll thank grandma when you’re 15 and have girls to kiss”
My husband merely groaned and gave no pushback on this.
Am I overreacting here? I think it’s IMMENSELY inappropriate for that to be said to 3 and 5 year old children. One of my close friends who was abused by her own father as a child said that that’s the sort of thing he would say to her.
Another complication, I’m freaking terrified to bring it up to my husband to even discuss it because I think he’ll get pissed at me for “spying” even though that was not my intention at all in the beginning. I saved the video clip of the conversation so I can’t be gaslit by saying “that’s not what happened or what was said”
Hubs and MIL are very enmeshed and he’s constantly making excuses for her behavior, including when my 5 year old comes home and repeats some very not nice things she has said to him about me. Of course he must just be misunderstanding what she’s saying and misremembering it.
This woman also told my 5 year old that if he keeps missing when using her toilet she’s going to make him lick it up off the floor. When that was brought up to my hubs, he just said “yeah that sounds like something she’d say” and I had to PUSH for him to make it clear to her how distressed my son was about it and how she is NOT to say things like that to him.
————————— Edit after discussion with my hubs. He said he was too thrown off yesterday to respond right away but when it got brought up again this morning when he went over to mow her lawn (didn’t yesterday because baby deer in her bushes) he shut it down and explained to the boys that it was very inappropriate to say and told his mom under no circumstances is that OK or appropriate and she is not to bring things like that up with the kids ever again. I’m still going to go forward and try to limit her access to the kids as much as humanly possible and supervise. Thank you all for your encouragement and advice. ❤️ I’m calling this one a win. He called her on her BS and didn’t excuse it.

My room has LED lights, Today I was in the kitchen when my dad told me to ask my mom to give my brother a shower since he was dirty
I go and tell my mom to give my brother a shower, NMOM misunderstood and gets angry
NDAD comes over and tells me I'm telling it wrong and not the way he wanted me to tell her, I said OK and went to my room
Ndad comes in my bedroom and starts lecturing me about how one of his professors daughters was academically gifted, knew several languages but ultimately ended up crippled because she used to be in her bedroom all the time, huddled up reading a book or on her phone all the time like I currently am
Anyway I'm grey rocking and NDAD is visibly getting angry that I'm not responding, I say OK and he says "OK? What the hell does OK mean? Go to the living room it has more space and you won't end up crippled"
So now I'm here, in the living room sitting uncomfortably on the couch where the cushions keep pinning themselves against my neck
I went out to eat dinner and my dad goes on about his rant and how staying in my bedroom all day everyday is going to eventually cripple me in life and that he only says these things because he cares for me
The thing is, he himself sleep deprives himself to spy on me and see how long I use my phone to threaten me later with the information he's gathered, he would sleep as late as 4 am and ONLY then would he be forced to succumb to sleep because he just wouldnt be able to bare it any longer
Any similar experiences, guys? I am F14-15 for anyone wondering

Chapter 4: Blue lies

Earth woke up, his head pounding, another nightmare. He sighed he was used to it now, this one a vivid description of how his celestial friends will look strangled in various ways, it had barely been minutes since Luna left and he was already desperate for company, and somehow he kept managing to fall asleep every minute, and his headache from Earthlings was growing again.
He didn’t know whether to yell or sigh in relief when a strange celestial approached him, almost making the planet jump.
‘H-hi Mr. Earth’s Moon- damn it I mean Earth-’ The satellite (He supposed) stammered in front of him like a fish out of water.
‘Hm, I’ve never seen you before.’ Earth remarked skeptically, his energy low for his usual front.
‘...Well you did, now.’ The satellite replied awkwardly.
‘Cut to the chase, what do you want?’, Earth practically snarled.
‘To meet you, I think.’ the former looked hesitant, maybe suspicious…
‘You think?’, Earth snapped back quicker than normal.
‘Maybe…It’s, I don’t know.’, he sighed one with exertion,’Y-you know what? Nice to meet you, I gotta go.’
‘Why you-’
He disappeared, Earth stared after the golden trail, there was something so endearing about the moon, he had a feeling, it wasn’t a good feeling. The name…
His name was Luma right?
A pounding headache pierced through his skull, that is to say if he had one, Earth wasn’t sure as he clutched his hair, the mope of Blue wig covering most of his eyes, not again, he thought to himself the feeling was much too familiar as he felt himself slipping into a dream state, the voices whispering frantically to him.

‘This was harder than i thought…’ Luma mumbled to himself as he drifted aimlessly in the asteroid belt, fumbling with the papers in his hand, Earth was careless when it came to disposing of the scripts. Not like anybody cared, Luma felt strange, an instinct told him not to trust Earth, not to trust it…the Crysta symbol had disappeared right out of his hands the moment he had entered this circus and he had no idea where to find it, he had a sneaking suspicion it had something to do with the gatekeeper,
‘Don’t trust them.’, Ophelia had said, well the satellite had successfully managed to alarm the celestial, who most definitely would label him as a snooper or criminal, due to one interaction that could be turned into a fallacy, for someone who knew so much about spying he sure panicked under pressure, Luma thought to himself.
‘Hey lil- bro, you act like i’ll-’ His brother’s voice echoed in his head, he pushed that thought aside, stuck in hell the last thing he needed was the sociopathic freak helping him, that monster. No, no way, can’t trust Nyx, nobody can, nobody should.
‘Lunatic has got him…the madness in his eyes…that was blood lust.’
Chapter 4.5:lies-Everything to hide

Earth could never tell if it was his insanity speaking or the cry of Lunar.

‘Hello old friend.’, Spoke a voice behind him, it was a soft yet sinister voice and Earth knew who it belonged to.
‘What do you want Lunatic?’ The celestial answered as a bead of sweat trickled down his neck.
‘You know very well.’ Earth in fact did know, but he pretended not to as he wished not to become a dead version of the zodiac killer.
‘I am not your friend.’
‘Who is yours?’
Earth flinched, he hated when Lunar was right, the manipulative, gaslighting bastard.
‘Now, now, let’s use less colorful and less modern insults, I have no energy for this.’, Earth couldn’t see him in the dream state, but he knew the monster was right behind him, he could feel Lunar’s shallow breath on his neck, the celestial tried to distract himself from the fact that he was a mind reader,
But all that came to his mind was vivid images of the manipulator as a green alien.
‘I am not that ugly.’ How did he hear his thoughts?! It was a stupid question after all he was in the Celestial’s mind.
Earth didn’t feel panic, he felt numbness, Lunar never attacked him, he always wanted something.
‘Don’t believe me?’ Earth didn’t.
In a blink of an eye the celestial felt himself being forcefully spun around, well it wasn’t much of a force, Earth didn’t care and he had no energy to fight back against it, nor that he can. The celestial inhaled sharply and had to force his mouth closed, Lunar was handsome.
The most endearing thing besides the literal Lunar symbol on his forehead were his eyes, which were sharp, cryptic, analytical and reminded Eaarth of his own moon, and an unsettling feeling of being watched and exposed naked with his identity filled him, he folded his arms tighter.
‘Surprised?’ He grinned, and maybe…almost maybe, didn’t look like the sadistic narcissist he was, Earth didn’t bother to answer.
‘I asked, “What do you want?” ’ Earth forced himself to look Lunar in the eyes to show his courage but his confidence crumbled away like bread crumbs left at the end of the packet.

‘Who?’Earth played obliviously.
‘The one you just met, don’t play dumb’
The words burned like H2So4 on the tip of Earth’s tongue, his palms sweating, he knew the name, why did he know the name? That’s right…Lunar told him, the satellite, he he was-
‘Luma Lenquiks the freak.’, Earth spat out, he didn’t know anything more about this Lenquiks and he didn’t care as long freedom was granted, of these nightmares…of this hellhole…of whatever…
‘Good. I wish you luck, betray me and…My eye will watch you.’ he chuckled at his own joke but it felt unnatural, Earth wasn’t planning to stick to the instructions.
Earth woke up with a start finding himself staring right into the face of his moon., thoughts of anxiety rushed through his head, some of irritation, others of anger, all of it crippled and left disabled by the fear the planet felt when he glanced at Luna’s hand, clutching the very papers that weren’t to be seen by a single soul in his hands, of course the careless celestial didn’t dispose of them, between the lunatic and the demon he always had a splitting headache, which causes him to lash out, and other times try omnicide.
‘What is this?’ Luna asked, trying to keep his tone placid but obvious as he leveled the paper to Earth’s eye, his hands shaking, in fright or terror Earth didn’t know.
‘How would I know?’ Earth answered, picking up the usual snarky tone and playing dumb, avoiding the question but Luna knew him too well.
‘Don’t. Lie.’ Luna said, his tone cold as he crumpled the papers,’This has somethings, something I never told you and it could only belong to you-’
‘What about Mars or Jupiter? They are closer to the asteroid belt my dear friend.’, Earth picked up another tone entirely as he clutched his head, damn it the voices again, fighting for control.
‘Mars and Jupiter don’t refer to me as Luna or ‘their moon’.’, he pointed at the script, confusion and fear visible in his eyes while Earth cursed his imbecility.
‘I-I h-have solution-’ Earth stammered another string of empty promises and lies started to push through his tongue.
‘No you don’t, stop lying!’Earth could practically feel the suspicion and anger steaming off the generally calm satellite. Earth didn’t feel anything, he never did, he doesn’t care. He didn’t…right?
‘...’
‘I thought so, ugh.’Luna huffed in frustration and left in one swift turn, but Earth saw his knuckles were pale from clutching so long and the sheets of paper now in his orbit were on the verge of being torn down. Thoughts raced inside his head, he didn’t notice as tear paths streaked his cheeks or a familiar, comforting pat on his shoulder., before he could stop himself he found himself squeezing the life out of his best friend.

Mars did not understand, he did not understand the celestial sniffing beside him as he tightened the scarf around his neck, shivering, something was wrong. He felt as if he was being watched all the time. Earth has suddenly taken up enigmatic as his new personality, Luna was worried, the moons of Jupiter, especially Europa were acting really strange and the Red planet wasn’t sure why. He had an idea, but it wasn’t an idea anybody wanted to believe. He awkwardly patted his friend’s shoulder who seemed quite embarrassed at this point.
‘Hey bruh..’ Earth murmured avoiding eye contact, Mars raised one of his eyebrows as Earth instinctively ruffled some sheets in his hand but the planet did not bother to question it.
‘Hey Earth, are you okay?’ Mars just blurted out directly, his voice devoid of any real emotion, which made him frown, he always talked like this, it wasn’t something new but it was like a distinct voice was calling out to him saying he’s wrong, he never ad the energy to be subtle, too lost in is thoughts he nearly missed earth’s reply.
‘Of course! What could possibly go wrong?!’ Earth forced the words out his mouth bashfully, the red planet was sure he detected bitterness but kept up his usual therapist tone anyways as he pulled his jacket tighter.
‘You need to open up Earth, it’s not fair to anyone’ Mars answered monotonously as the word “therapist” rang in his head again and again, an odd sense of tranquility washed over him, he smiled meekly at his friend, unfortunately Earth did not return the favor.
‘Oh sure, you would know.’, Earth’s voice cut through Mars’ thoughts as it grew higher in pitch.
‘What is that supposed to mean?’ Mars asked, trying not to lose his head and pushing the feeling of wrongness aside, a mild pain in his chest took over as his heartbeat (corebeat?) grew faster.
‘It’s not like you have to constantly deal with parasites on your surface.’ Earth finally snapped, he covered his mouth as he realized what he had said.
‘You can talk to me if something is-’ Mars gently and simply replied only to be cut off again by Earth’s turbulent phrase.
‘I don’t understand, I don’t understand you, how the fuck can you be so calm?!’
‘IS there something wrong that I shouldn’t be calm about?’ The red planet’s voice grew steely as a scowl covered his face, more of irritation than anger as the mild pain in his chest subsided.
‘You know what just leave me alone.’, Earth looked down, dejected, Mars couldn’t help but notice how endearing yet sad the planet looked as if a part of him was missing, the latter celestial was truly lost if that was the case because he felt lost himself.
‘For another one of your phases? Who are you planning to enact next, friend ?’ Corner of Earth’s mouth twitched as his eyes wrinkled in a smile, a rather insane and dark one but a smile nevertheless, Mars was horribly wrong about the intent of smile though as he’ll see.
‘Friends? Sure, believe what you want.’ For some unknown reason the words finally broke Mars’ cool, he replied furiously as his ears grew hot and heartbeat increased.
‘You know what? I’ve had enough with you! Most celestials want to live or die but you…you just sit there watching everyone, belittling them, angering them, demeaning them…for what? For pity? No! You like it. You like making us angry, then once you run out of people to piss off then what? You apologize?!! I can make plenty of friends without the likes of you, who think we are some lab rats to be experimented on for our feelings, don’t you?!’ Mars rambled, barely pausing for breath. He was tired of being Earth’s little toy, everyone’s doormat, dealing with their messes and then listening on and on about how bad their problems are, Earth’s expression flicked for a second, he either looked as if he would hit his best friend or cry.
He did neither, he just stared into the void and said one thing the red planet would never forget,
“I don’t want you…I don’t need you…I wish he was here, they were here” and then Earth just turned away without saying a single other word and drifted onto the other side of the sun, leaving the red planet with his mouth hanging open, the expressions that lit his face were not of hurt, not of anger, not even sadness, not hatred but…

Chapter 3.5: Hello! This is hell
…Who are you? Who am I? What the hell’s my fucking name…
…You gotta look forever friend, did you say…
‘Oh look he’s alive..yay!’ called out a bored voice but Rio couldn’t pinpoint the source of voice as darkness loomed over him, his skull pounded inside his head as if a war was going on inside him, his memories were frenzy and hazy, slowly Rio realized that his eyes were closed and he cracked them open a bit, taking a tiny peek, soon enough his impatience won over and he opened them completely, it was a huge mistake needless to say as the pain nearly made him faint again but he caught a glimpse of angry mud coloured eyes and disheveled dark Auburn hair, soon Rio realized that he wasn’t falling…
He was floating?
He struggled to maintain balance and not drift upside down, his body felt heavier, the boy in front of him had started speaking but Rio didn’t pay attention to a word he said as he inhaled sharply while looking down at his hand, they were…Blue? It dawned on him he was wearing different clothes, lighter clothes with something resembling a light shawl draped over his shoulders and a plain white T-shirt, he blinked. The boy in front of him wore much darker and heavier cloth with a winter poncho over his shoulders, Rio suddenly realized that the boy had stopped speaking and was just looking plain annoyed.
‘Were you listening to a word I said?’ he asked, a tint of irritation in his voice not even masked by his faked enthusiasm.
‘I- Who are you??’, Rio asked sharply, which caused the warm smile to melt, replaced by a dark glint in his eyes that seemed to hide great secrets.
‘Is it not obvious? I am Mars.’, Was all he said thought in a tone of mockery, leaving Rio very irritated and inquisitive, he was hazed out or else he would’ve shown his anger through verbal aggression.
‘Like the planet?’ asked the curious boy, amused by the choice of name, his tone grew higher with panic, a sigh of exasperation filled the air around them, guess who it belonged to.
‘Yes I suppose’, he huffed and answered reluctantly, a wave of nausea hit him, he nearly passed out again, Mars didn’t bother to help but he looked mystified, and that is when our protagonist noticed the gigantic…star?? Human-star?? No that didn’t seem right, he glowed brightly so the former looked away, it was a star…that looked like a human? He seemed to be talking to someone or himself, Rio wasn’t sure, then it hit him like a train wreck. Didn’t Mars look like a planet too? Rio slowly turned towards him, the panic of the new place began to settle in, he felt as if his chest would explode, wait was it space?? How was he breath-
‘Okay…are you freaking out?’ Mars looked a little worried,’Guess I should probably explain before someone finds us and blows the cover’ Rio nodded dumbly, too overstimulated to comment on anything.
Mars sighed ,’How do I say it…? Mm…Hello to hell?’ Rio must’ve looked pretty moronic with his jaw hanging open that the weird Halloween costume guy snickered, which annoyed the former.
‘What-’
‘Listen.’ he hissed ’Listen properly, whatever your name is-’
‘My name is Rio.’The boy said, his face growing hot and his mind tired of the condescending tone.
‘Yeah well, not anymore, it’s Earth.’ Mars said as he glared at Rio, as if daring him to challenge his authority, the latter for once in his life did not start a fight and instead proceeded to fill in the knowledge gaps.
‘Earth like the planet? How-’
‘Listen Rio…or Earth, this place is designed in such a way to resemble the solar system, the last person who was playing Earth.’ he paused as if struggling to remember and finally gave up shaking his head,’I can’t remember.’, he admitted.
‘What do you mean?!’ Earth/Rio felt panic rising in his chest again, Mars inhaled sharply, he looked less angry and more troubled now.
‘What I mean is, we can’t leave.’ dead silence, pure silence, Rio stared at him as if waiting for him to say “haha, it’s a prank bitches”, that never happened, and to make matters worse, mars added another thing that made the ball drop to Rio’s stomach.
‘And the longer we stay here..We forget who we are…some go insane, others simply forget…I am the few to remember.’ He looked like as if he wanted to add more but said nothing as seconds trickled by, then minutes and what felt like an eternity before Rio replied,
‘What is your name?’
‘...’, Mars didn’t know, Earth knew that, then a disturbing thought erupted out of nowhere, multiple actually, he had siblings, what were their names? Where did he live? Who was he? But the most terrifying thing to have happened was..
My name is Rio, right??
‘Calm down.’
‘WHAT DO YOU MEAN CALM DOWN-’, Mars covered Rio’s mouth, he struggled but the fiery glare quieted him down

Needless to say, Earth had trouble settling in, after digesting the most horrifying news, Mars suggested him to meet others so he doesn’t drive himself paranoid, the latter wasn’t particularly fond of the idea or Mars but agreed nevertheless mostly because he didn’t want to talk to asteroids, partially because he was on the verge of another panic attack. The red terrestrial (as he called himself) guided him (Or rather choked and then dragged, Rio pretends to forget the details) does not into an orbit closer to the sun, revealing in turn another person (‘We call ourselves celestials.’, Mars said.), that “celestial” happened to be much smaller than the other two and was gray in color and Earth admitted he was adorable, however timid.
His name was Luna or Moon, Mars had told him.
‘Hey Earth, where were you? I was worried about you, thanks for finding him Mars.’ Luna returned a grateful smile to the smaller terrestrial who just scoffed, but Moon didn’t mind.
‘I…uh got lost, not important.’ Earth replied, his left eye twitching and a squeak escaping his mouth, which obviously didn’t sound like the Celestial who was before him because Luna frowned and became overly concerned like a human mother (or Mars would call an Earthling mom).
‘Are you okay?’ Luna rambled on,’Mars he-’
‘He’s fine you big baby!’ the named one snapped, Luna did not respond and just brushed it off, Rio frowned, he himself is not a saint but he’s not mean either, Mars just sounds like a jerk. The Moon just continued to chatter lectures to Earth as the latter shot the Red planet a nasty look as he left.
‘Earth, you okay?’, his voice sounded strained.
‘Yeah Luna…who does he think he is?!’ Earth growled toying with two asteroids in hand, not paying any particular attention to anything.
‘You mean Mars?’ Luna blinked, an expression of sadness surrounded his non-existent atmosphere, which might’ve sent Earth into a deep state of sonder for a while if not for the response that followed.
‘You know it’s because of what happened to Phaeton.’ Luna had a look of sorrow on his face, but he did not hesitate to be direct, Earth racked his brain to figure it out, he could not remember anything about Phaeton.
‘Phaeton?’ Earth asked, a delicate balance to his tone.
‘Right, I forgot you don’t remember much, I mean Venus told me.’ Luna answered, he seemed a bit out of place before continuing,’I feel, I think, he gets lonely sometimes.’
Earth blinked and then proceeded to frown, Phaeton, whoever he was seemed like he was close with Mars, maybe the only other person beside him to know the truth. If The Blue ball didn’t want to scream and run for his mommy right now, he probably would’ve felt guilty, or not. He’s not exactly empathetic and for now he doesn’t care.
‘Big deal.’ Earth scoffed, then cursed himself internally for opening his mouth, was it too insensitive, callous, thoughtless? Luna didn’t utter a word, an ever so blank expression present on his face, Earth just sighed and waited for Luna to fall asleep, he needed to talk to someone before he threw himself in the sun (Not that there was any chance it would work), besides Mars owed him an apology.

Mars stared at the asteroid belt, the only Celestial keeping him sane was destroyed, destroyed by Jupiter, left friendless the Red planet was building constructions out of the space dust, while Phobos and Demios up to some mischief none cares about, he wondered if he was going to get estranged out at the point of becoming Neptune, or something more like Venus or Luna? Or maybe-
‘Hey.’, called out a voice pulling him away from his thoughts, Mars groaned.
‘What do you want?’ He muttered, keeping his stoic expression, Earth or Rio whoever he was, shrugged, The former felt a pang of jealousy, why does Rio get to remember his name?
‘Nothing, just hanging’ Earth said before poking in, ’Whatcha doing?’
‘None of your business.’ He snapped back, callously, giving Earth the cold shoulder who for some reason brushed it off, Mars momentarily wondered about the change of attitude.
‘Can I hang out with you?’ Earth blurted out directly.
‘What?’ Mars jerked his head in confusion, why would anyone in the universe hang out with him?
‘No…reason…’ Earth replied, it clicked and anger bubbled in Mars’ chest, pity, that was it, pitied by a stranger.
‘What did Moon tell you?’ Mars tried to take control of his temper, of course Luna told his precious planet.
‘Why will he tell me-’
‘Just leave me alone.’
‘Whatever…’ Earth looked directly at him before adding,’Maybe control your temper.’
‘Yeah, sure.’ The former replied sarcastically, trying not to prove the idiot’s point, but thankfully the latter left him alone after that without further questions, Mars didn’t really regret it but he still felt lonely.

Earth felt bad to say the least, but he was more worried about something else that bothered him, his name, what was his name? He couldn’t remember, that made him anxious and probably self absorbed in the eyes of others as the development in the human world got higher developments in technology, causing headaches all the time, lice, any sane person would call them. But the Blue ball wasn’t sane, he adored the tiny humans to some extent, okay maybe a lot, and as time went on he grew close to and fond of Luna.
That is until~
The offer.
Flashback:
The Earth fell asleep on one particular day, nothing about it would stand out because there was no way to tell what was day or what was night, thoughts that would drive any normal person sane, but he, Whatever his name used to be, wasn’t sane, wasn’t born normal. Hazy memories of the weirdest animal interactions would pop up in his head, but this by far was still his most cryptic experience.
‘Hello.’ called out a dreamy voice in an ink black void, Earth looked around, he must be dreaming.
‘Hi?’ he replied.
‘You’re Earth, aren’t ya?’ The voice seemed to be male…but it was too soft.
‘Yes?’, it popped like a question.
Earth doesn’t remember what happened afterwards, all he knew was that-that
His name was Lunar…right?

Chapter 4: Estranged times
…In a RUSH, he’ll come and get ya…
…Turn ya whole skin inside out with a zipper…
‘Ophelia, it’s no use, we are getting nowhere.’ Nyx grumbled as he toyed with a miniature toy in his hand, it held sentimental value for the Panthesa but it was pure distaste and rage that went into somehow dismantling it. He's been at it for days now; the craft gave no sign of structural damage. Thankfully Ophelia replied before he got an aneurysm.
‘This is the Night-Cage maze, I am not sure we CAN get anywhere.’ she replied dejected, pouting; for a person who treats him like a child, she sure knows how to act like one.
‘Thanks your ever cheerful highness.’ The feline replied sarcastically, he was clueless about their whereabouts and how long they’ve been stuck in this hellhole, the only thing luminating in the blanket of cold darkness around them was a neon lamp, which fed on energy they didn’t have.
‘You’re not exactly Luma either.’ she sighed.
‘Don’t you dare bring him up again.’ Nyx snapped, he clenched the toy hard. He loved Ophelia but she was damn insensitive, like she didn’t know-
Who was he kidding? Of course she didn’t, one of her few quirks that emerged as a part of her …no he mustn't not think about it.
‘Right, the fight…sorry?’ She was silent for a while before quietly adding,’I’m sure we can fix this.’
‘As much as I like fixing things, not all can.’, The feline pushed away his tears, choking down a sob, he hesitated before bitterly adding,’You don’t know what’s broken-’
‘Bold of you to assume.’ Ophie mumbled, was there amusement in her tone? He tried to control his temper and not wipe the ever present trace-like, confused expression on her face; which often occurred in a conversation about emotions and subtle players.
‘What is that supposed to mean?’ Nyx tried to sound furious but failed miserably as his voice came out meek and pathetic, Ophie sat beside him against the wall, fixing his mask as he avoided eye contact.
‘I mean, I know what happened before- before, like he told me.’ she finally finished, looking defeated but Nyx’s blood grew cold as his heartbeat raised exponentially.
‘You know…’
‘This really isn’t a big deal, we can fix this-’ she desperately clinged on to any moment of silence but The feline’s ear twitched and cat eyes turned into mere slits.
‘You. Know.’ he looked ready to pounce on her, she didn’t seem particularly afraid, her dull green eyes locked with his.
‘Yes, I know. But surely you must have a reason?’ she asked as she ruffled his disheveled Black hair, nearly making the already loose winter cap fall, moments like this made him wish he was taller. He hated being short.
‘I don’t need your pity.’ he pushed her away, straightening the loose beanie.
‘Seriously? You know how hard it’s for me to keep check of human emotions, don’t get me started on extra terrestrial ones!’ she huffed, he was secretly relieved that she had diverted from the topic, Ophie usually does, attention wasn’t exactly a skill of hers, unless it came to science.
‘Ouch, I am soooo hurt.’ Nyx replied in an overly dramatic fashion, and it did fool her.
‘Wait really? Oh I am so-’ Ophie frantically began to apologize, he put a hold to that.
‘That was sarcasm, your highness.’
‘Oh- wait is this sarcasm??’ She asked, clearly suspicious, moments like these were what made Nyx wonder who was older.
‘No my queen.’ He showed his fake disappointment in an even more dramatic fashion, wanting to keep her far away from the truth and the original point of discussion.
‘Distractions don’t work on me, you know?’ Ophie frowned, Nyx had to admit; he was a little confounded that her dense brain got him, but mostly it was irritation laced with guilt and regret. Why? He tried not to think about it.
‘It wasn’t even you, literally.’ Ophie seemed to be annoyed, of course he could be wrong but that doesn’t stop one from being right.
‘Don’t speak about things you don’t know.’
‘I think I know.’ her annoying voice interrupted his thought.
‘Know what?’ Nyx snapped, tired of her omniscient tone.
‘Welll, you think we are fucking doomed, guess what? We’re stuck, not same as dooming.’ She shrugged, looking carefree as ever, everything was a joke to her.
‘Oh, big talk coming from you, asshole.’ He could practically feel her anger radiating like heat, sadistic as he was, the pleasure found was even more so.
‘I said I was sorry.’
‘I wish I could believe you.’
‘Look you’re that thing or whatever…just forget it, I don’t wanna talk about it.’
‘I’m sorry, you want to talk about quantum mechanics instead?’
‘Will you let it go?! I’m sorry I was a total bitch but I…don’t know what to say, huh.’
‘Of course you don’t, my lady. Next time I’ll hang myself if necessary.’
‘What do you want me to do Nyx?! Get a fucking pill for it?!’ she finally burst out.
‘How about trying not to be…’, his voice trailed off.
‘I. Am. Not- you know what? I don’t see the fucking point…I give up, let’s just not talk.’ She finally answered, not making eye contact, as usual.
Nyx felt his ears twitch as he heard steps,
Approaching closer and closer.
‘Don’t move.’ Ophie covered his mouth and pulled him behind another wall, he nearly tore her hand off, probably would’ve growled if not for the warning look she was giving him.
‘It’s the shadow hunter.’ she whispered.
‘I figured, genius.’.
Without any warning Nyx felt an arm grabbing him,

Chapter 5: Just a burning memory
…It’s everything you ever want, everything you ever need…
…It’s fire, it’s freedom, it’s flooding open, it is the greatest show!…
He had tears in his eyes, he had clothes on his body, hair on his head but he had no name and as the rain plattered and splattered on his head, he most likely did not have a roof over his head. Who was he? It’s hard to say when one doesn’t have a name and is disowned by their own parents at the age of ten. He wallowed in self pity as his woe ran down his head- his face. All he could think about was the buzz of angry questions in his head, why was magic forbidden among civilians? The overlords and their majesties were both loved and feared upon because of their magic, why did he have to be any different? What was so wretched about these crafts?
‘I hope Karo drags them to hell…those big-’
‘Now, now, is this any way to speak about your parents, little one?’ Came one of those highly charismatic voices that made you wanna absorb every word of what the person says, with no care for the content.
He turned sharply, expecting…oh who in The Angel’s name cares? A man stood there, a little short of 6 feet, his face and eyes largely hidden by a ridiculously large cap, but even without that ‘He’ could practically taste the arrogant smile which lay upon his face, which left ‘him’ lingering with hatred.
‘How can you know you-you cunt?’ ‘He’ asked, far worse slurs resting on his lip, threatening to spill as his eyes burned and vision blurred.
‘I am used to the expression and tears little one, I see it everyday.’ answered the man, the child couldn’t tell whether the man was being serious or sardonic.
‘Watcha want?!’
‘What can I want from you? Do tell me dear child.’
‘Stop it. Stop it.’ His hands were shaking, as he sat down on what was supposedly a bench. The man bit his lip, as he moved towards the child and sat down beside him without uttering a word.
‘These are called words my little friend, they won’t hurt you.’ One of his visible eye was liquid Blue.
‘Go away.’
‘And if I don’t?’
‘Then-then, I will!’ The child declared as the man sighed and removed his hat. He had a sharp face, his messy hair falling on his golden headband around his forehead.
‘My dear you mustn’t-’
‘When will you stop treating me like a child?’ then the man stared right into his silver eyes,
‘Aren’t you one?’
Tears threatened to spill out, ‘He’ wanted to crawl in a hole and die, what would they even write in his grave if he had one?
‘Ah…you mustn't be afraid to cry, you are still a child, it doesn’t matter what your parents say.’
No reply.
‘My name is Adam, what’s yours little one?’ that hit the nerve for the child, he burst out into violent tears, what was he to say? What was he to say? That thy’s parents have not given him a name?
Adam just watched his gaze still like ice as the child cried, making no effort to comfort him and ‘He’ couldn’t understand why, why was here, why wouldn’t he walk away, why wouldn’t he react? Slowly the child stopped bawling, and just stared into his lap, refusing to make eye contact.
‘Why wouldn’t you do something? Why wouldn’t you scold me? Why wouldn’t you walk away?’
‘My, my, for a grown up child you sure ask a lot of questions.’ Adam chuckled.
‘You did not answer my question.’
‘Would you want a strange man to comfort you?’
‘No.’
‘Would you want him to scold you?’
‘No.’
‘Would you want him to walk away?’
‘No-’the boy realized what he had just said,’You tricked me!’
‘No my friend, I simply did what you asked me to do.’

This is fine.

Overall, I feel like this show ended up having the quality of Covert Affairs (a 2010s girlboss spy drama), but less fun. Real USA network writing. I think it wanted to be the quality of Slow Horses (my favorite spy drama right now)--but fell short. Spoilers below.
First--there were several things about this show I found promising.

• I like the idea of a spy that's utilizing more feminine coded skills (empathizing, relating, authentic communication) as a tool. I liked that Imogen leaned on people's assumptions about her--the needing to call her mom to get the comms guy out of the way for instance.
• >! I think the perspective of why people become part of terrorist organizations, and are willing to die (and kill people) for a cause is interesting and not well explored in spy thriller. And I think looking at the ways women participate in these systems is interesting.!<
• I generally find Elizabeth Moss charming (except for the Scientology bs)
• Adiliah was, in my opinion, the most layered character. She had personal convictions and reservations about her choices. I think it would have been even better to show more of her background through flashbacks to get a sense of this.
• I really liked the friendship and comradery between Imogen and Adiliah. I found that very believable. They argued like sisters that desperately wanted the other to understand. It worked well.

My biggest issues:

• There were so many things not fleshed out--more of Adiliah's background, Imogen's Dad's motives/what happened to her mom, why was Michael so rich (it felt like a plot device to just move things along when there wasn't money), what was up with Imogen's kid, how her Dad was able to just disappear to the countryside?? There was a lot of telling rather than showing.
• I think they should have treated Adiliah's story with as much time/energy as Imogen's. It would have been an interesting comparison of how two women came to work for organizations that they joined for complicated reasons. Also, I think if they're going to make a choice of having a sympathetic ISIS terrorist--they should show the circumstances that lead people to these groups.
• Really flat characters: The American and French spies were just caricatures of their cultures. It was funny at times, but repetitive. I think it would have been more effective if we had a sense of their motives beyond, "I want to be the one to win." Michael had bond villain ick, and it would have been more interesting if Imogen could have a character to play off of that had more complexity as a foil to Adiliah.
• Cringe-y dialogue and general choices: "What's my name?" and the Red Dress come to mind. Ugh. It felt overly dramatic, and like they were trying to hit you over the head with the themes and motifs. The really nice french apartment, the singing audition, and Adiliah being a model were more choices that felt like they were appealing more to aesthetics than authenticity.
• Finally--I hated Adiliah's death. It felt like she and Imogen never got that moment where she makes a choice about who she wants to be, and the fogged up windshield was clever--but that robbed us of a more satisfying character moment.

I've (23M) a considerable sum of money on my end. Not enough for a living of course but confortable enough for reasonable spending for a while. However, my mom has always been possessive and paranoid with her money. I grant her that her own salary is barely minimum wage so she's has a reason to worry about money but, I'm not talking about her money, I'm talking about mine. Her income is not the only income on the house. The other day, she noticed me booting up a new game on my pc and she started ranting and asking if I was spending *my* money. I dodged the questions because I don't owe satisfactions about how I spend or not my money.
Thing is, I always hesitate on spending the slightest amount of money. Not that I allow my mother to spy on my wallet and cards, but idk, the guilt has been planted on me.

I’ve never written a question on this app before but this is eating at me. BUCKLE UP THIS IS LONG!
So my husband’s family have been abusive to him, he is the black sheep of his family he is the youngest and has a different father than his older siblings (8,6 years older).
Ever since I started dating him I was antagonized in some way. When I first met his family for Christmas his middle brother invited his ex-girlfriend to hang out, unbeknownst to my then bf which was awkward but she was fine with me. My boyfriend then was really sick and I took the train 2 hours to pick him up from his home (where his family was with their cars) and take him to a hospital in London. He was there for 6 days not one person visited him but me. They made fun of him and minimized his illness.
Then we moved to my home country the US and eloped. They came to visit a few years later his mom and eldest brother were okay. Middle brother again constantly throwing barbs and digs at me completely unprovoked. I get there may be a culture difference they are White English conservatives, I’m African American. Shortly after we married he dated a black girl, who left bc she was also treated poorly. Some examples of digs; I congratulated him on graduating and asked him when he finished he replied “same time you were supposed to” (I dropped out). Then I asked what the he loved most and what was challenging about being a PT and he replied “no offense, working with fat people.” Took them to multiple meals and covered everything which wasn’t cheap, he complained about the food being “reheated” and bitched when he was ID’d.
Things get progressively worse, middle brother has a precious baby. I want to spoil her and become close with the mother of the child (who is not with him due to his creepy behavior). We form a fast friendship and chat all the time about the baby. My brother in-law tortures this girl denies he is the dad but also goes out of his way to bully her (she’s not breast feeding right, she shouldn’t have pacifiers) all from the comfort of his home. He is also constantly complaining about having to pay $50 a week in child support nonstop saying he is going “bankrupt”. My hubby is part of a group chat and my mother-in-law talks ish about my friend and my hubby is telling me. I ask to see and his brother is actively trying to give his soon to be 1 year old daughter eggs and gluten that his ex told him she was allergic to and they are plotting to do this during her birthday and explicitly NOT tell my friend the mom of his baby. The reasoning was “I’m the father, I deserve to be respected, I can make choices to” but he is extremely sneaky. I show my friend/baby’s mom the messages and all hell breaks loose because of course he lies and gets caught. I would have told him off directly but he blocked me because he was mad at how close I was getting to his ex. I am called a “despicable woman” dragged in their chat, made to seem that I’m spying on my husband and accused of being jealous and sabotaging my niece’s birthday party. My husband says nothing in my defense just goes along like he didn’t send me the photos of their chat…
They don’t know I’m pregnant at this time and I chose not to tell any of my in-laws due to how awful they are. I also don’t believe in telling anyone that would wish ill on me and my baby (bad juju), but my bestie the baby mom knows. I give birth his mom has an absolute tantrum says incredibly awful things to my husband, reaches out to my mom to wish her congratulations on her grandchild and says “i guess I will learn to love him.”
Then my friend the mom gets diagnosed with cancer and wants to keep this secret and makes me promise, she kept my secret pregnancy it is the least I could do. She dies a few months later and my brother in law attacks her for not telling him and claims she is a horrible mother. He takes custody of his daughter.
Fast forward the eldest brother meets this hog woman. She is rotund and English, very ignorant and rude. The first interaction I had she thought she knew so much, decides to bash my dead friend’s parenting, call my dead father in law “weird”, tells me my niece eats everything now due to having a “good parent” and called my apt in NYC “embarrassing” bc it had scaffolding on google maps when she looked me up (like a creep). She then antagonizes me in a variety of slick ways including posting the eldest brother with my niece with the caption “uncle B’s favorite!” On my son’s birthday. Most recently I tell his family that we want to actually have a proper wedding and celebrate after 10 years of marriage, i give them 2 years notice. The hog says “ohhh me and the eldest are planning on getting married then.” I ask why she says “nice weather”. She then proceeds to have a fall wedding (orange, red, greens, pumpkins, barley, wheelbarrows etc.” in May. I try to be the bigger person and send a kind welcome and she leaves me on read.
I hate these people, I need to let this go. My husband says that we should just go on continuing our happy life and not “start problems”. But it feels like so much awfulness to have to swallow. I also feel like if/when I do speak up I’m the hysterical angry black woman and this hog is the “innocent”. The whole thing is so so frustrating but I need to let it go even though I want them to hurt emotionally as much as they have hurt us.
Any recommendations, would you want revenge? There is so much more but I have written a novel already. I feel alone like no one has my back or tries to understand my perspective. They are so sneaky and underhanded. I want to protect my family from these sick people. At the same time I want justice, justice for my husband, for my dead bestie, for me son and for me.

I make my way into my house, a small part of me is hoping for relief from the harsh Savannah heat. Only to be brought back to my unpleasant reality of my house being just as hot and dry as the outside.
Ugh, why do I willingly live in this hellish place without AC?
I hear mewing and tapping hooves getting closer, a small blood red calf comes running towards me and runs circles around me. I extend my free hand and she readily forces her head into it, wrapping her tongue, upper and lower lip around it to return the gesture of connection. The barbs irritate my skin, but she's old enough now not to unintentionally draw blood.
I look down at the pleading eye, happy to see me again.
Ah, right. While I'm in hell she's in paradise, I guess I’ll have to suck it up for her.
I give her a closed lip smile and rub her ears.
“Hi honey, how was school?” She inflates her nostrils and begins to talk to me in learned English. It is… unsettling how accurately she can mimic almost anyone with only her nose. I am reminded of that fact as she speaks in my voice.
“Good, bunny lunch was.” I forced down an indignant laugh at the child's broken grammar. It seems Yulpa are able to understand words, but grammar doesn't seem important to them. I remember how off puttingly dense their spoken language is, they can communicate in infra sound over vast distances. Their phrases were spoken in single words, so a single “word” was a bit of a conversation. Like “Over the river” or ”up the tree is food.”
It was insane how dense their language was.
“Do you know if mom is back?” The little head in my hand nodes while still wrapped around me.
“Garden she eating is.”
I rub her head one more time before I make my way out the back door. The child quickly scampered off to do who knows what.
Out in the back I see her, draped in golden jewelry, with a well maintained main, green cloth and jewels to accentuate her natural deep red coat. She was laying down with what looked like roughage in her maw. She was absentmindedly chewing and staring off into space.
I walked over and rested myself against her side, I let her breathing rise and lower me. Being in the presence of such a large person really made me feel how insanely varied our body masses were. Despite being married and … constituting it, we had to sleep in separate beds, lest she roll onto me and I die of suffocation or all my bones breaking.
I absentmindedly picked some grass and twirled it around. “So, what's wrong?” She rolled her eyes towards me.
“Hungry.” She spoke in perfect English, I looked down at the grass I began to weave together.
“You need to get the cure.” She raised her massive head ever so slightly. “No, betrayal, life lived one way. Too late, already sacrificed too many.” She blows out her nose.
I grab more grass and weave it into the mass I was creating. “I thought I was too old, set in my ways to be married when we met. But now look at us.” I point to the child in the window clearly talking to someone on the home computer. “I’m glad you hunted me, forced me into this. If you didn't I'd still be a lonely S.O.B. jacking it to venlil stuff right now.”
She flicks an ear. “I wanted sacrifice YOU.“ She spoke.
I smirked as I continued to weave. “Yeah but ya didn't. Cause I’m just so sexy!!!”

If there was a season 3 I would start with do we really learn from our mistakes and Imogen’s mother was really her sister and she couldn’t deal (of course) and killed herself when she was young. Still hasn’t found Yasmin or dad. Reconnects with another one of her dad’s protégés to find him and kill him. Along the way she finds out her dad’s friends came over one night to hang out and be double agents and when dad fell asleep drunk (family habit) his friends were the ones who gang raped her. If there was a season 4 I would do a ten year time jump. Imogen is now stuck in bureaucratic hell training new spies as opposed to being one. I would explore the idea of how trauma from the past shapes our present. You know who the trainee turns out to be and is hell bent on revenge for her mom’s death. The trainee lover tries to protect Imogen and gets shot. Bye bye. Before he bites it he tells Imogen he was working for her father to keep an eye on her and reveals his location. Apologizes for initially manipulating her. He points to his pocket and after he dies she finds an engagement ring.
If there was a season 5 I would return to the idea of is blood thicker than water. She teams up with Malik, newly divorced, retired and bored to find her father and finish him. Twists and turns later she finds him. And Yasmin. Yasmin has decided to kill Imogen for killing her mom and joined their dad. So we have the three of them all pointing guns at each other. Which daughter does dad kill? Yasmin finds out she was the product of rape and now has to decide if she wants to kill her mother’s rapist and avenge her that way or kill her killer. Years of therapy for that twist. Imogen has to decide who to kill, evil dad or messed up sister
Malik creates a diversion which gives Imogen time to wound Yasmin and kill dad.
She tells Yasmin now they’re all finally free ( Adilah ghost and Imogen mom/sister ghosts show up to join them)

I've been suspecting that I might be bisexual for a few months now. And that sucks because this religion doesn't accept bisexuality or homosexuality. They're also against masturbating, which I've already done. And guess what? I got off to a woman. I'm female. This would be considered a serious sin.
I've finally gotten over the guilt, but this still bugs me. I haven't decided where I'm gonna go sexually when I'm older, but right now isn't the time to be thinking about that. But I'm probably not gonna hold off on sex until I'm married.

AITA for telling my parents I prefer them to watch my boys in my house?
Backstory: my parents used to be super involved with my boys (3, 2) until about 18 months ago when my husband and I had a falling out with them. Long story short, my husband called out my brother for some weird, red flag behavior he was doing around the boys. This behavior was called out previously and we asked my brother not to do again, but he did it again anyway. Although my husband apologized for his initial delivery (it admittedly wasn’t handled well) and asked for forgiveness, my brother hasn’t talked to us since and my parents iced us out for 6 months (in solidarity with my brother) before finally coming around to see the boys. The whole time I never told them they couldn’t see my boys and often invited them over but was always ignored. Now they come around sometimes but make it a point to never go inside our house. I either have to drive to their house (1-1.5 hours away) or meet up with them somewhere else so they can see the boys. Our relationship is still a bit strained but definitely has improved.
Fast forward to now and I’m 36 weeks pregnant with baby #3. My MIL lives 9 hours away but graciously offered to come 1 week before my due date in case baby comes early and to help me out in the newborn stage. I was a little nervous about what to do if baby comes earlier but I had a few good friends from church offer to watch the boys if I go into labor before my MIL arrives. However, I at least wanted to ask my parents if they can watch the boys at my house because I love my parents and know the boys love spending time with them. Also, when I went to labor with my second bb, they came over to my house and watched my first.
When I asked my mom if I could call them to watch boys if I go into labor early, her counter question was to ask if they can watch the boys in their home which is 1-1.5 hours away. I politely declined and said I would prefer the boys to stay at home or at least be local. Besides, my friends both offered to come to my house which honestly is the best situation especially because I know everything they need is already at my house + when I’m in the throes of labor, it’s one less thing I need to worry about.
I honestly wasn’t upset and was very polite in my response.. basically, “we prefer to keep the boys local but thank you anyway, we have it covered.” However, my mom’s response was pretty aggressive. She told me how I don’t trust them and that the only reason I want them to watch the boys in their house is so I can spy on them with all our cameras. This is all bananas because:
1) of course I trust them to watch the boys, if I didn’t I wouldn’t ask 2) The only camera we have inside the house is the baby monitor in the boys’ room that we only check to make sure they’re in bed and not bouncing off the walls.
When I communicate this to her, she doubles down on our “trust issues” and how she can’t believe we don’t trust them and that we trust our church friends more than we trust them. I can see this isn’t going anywhere productive so I tell her I love her and that if she doesn’t want to watch the boys in our house that’s fine.. totally their choice. She lost her mind when I said that, saying that none of this is her choice and this is all happening because of me 🫣
At this point, I’m convinced my parents are still harboring resentment towards my husband and I for calling out my brother on his inappropriate behavior. Hence why they refuse to step inside our house and still to this day barely acknowledge my husband. But I know that I can’t do anything more about that — we’ve apologized for the harsh delivery and acknowledged it could have been handled better, reinforced our boundaries around our kids, and continued to invite my parents into our lives and home even when we were being ignored for months. When I asked my mom if this was the reason why they don’t want to go to my house, she denied it but followed it up with some weird comments that convince me she is still not over it (e.g. “your husband started it, so don’t blame us”).
I want my kids to have a good relationship with my parents and I try my best to accommodate them, but I feel like they only want it on their terms and get upset if I try to do something different. Is this a control thing for them or am I being unreasonable?

I have a few things to add:
1) My adult brother was caught watching my two young sons getting changed twice, in ways that my husband and I felt were inappropriate. The first time he was watching them getting changed, he stopped watching the movie that was on in the living room to come with my husband and I when I said I needed to change the boys. I noticed he was staring intently at the boys’ private areas for an amount of time that made me feel uncomfortable. He wasn’t talking to anyone, he was just staring. Before that we noticed he had a pattern of stopping what he is doing to watch the boys get their diapers changed or changed after their baths but didn’t think much of it. After we noticed the long staring, we told him it made us feel uncomfortable and to not even be close to the boys if they are getting changed. We also made it a rule that no males other than my husband should be around the boys when they are changing. We make it a point to bring them to a separate, private area to be changed even for diaper changes because that is our preference.
2) The second time my brother was caught, my mom was changing the boys after a bath in their room. This was almost a month after the warning. The way my house is set up is that all our bedrooms are at the back of the house at the end of a hallway, past our guest bathroom. He was standing in the hallway looking into their bedroom, where the door was partially open. My husband happened to be on his way out of our master bedroom when he saw my brother in the hallway looking in and watching the boys get dressed. My husband paused for 5-10 seconds to observe and make sure he wasn’t jumping to conclusions. Per my husband, my brother was staring the whole time, not talking to my mom at all.. my mom didn’t even know he was there. My husband definitely had some harsh words and language with him after this. We know he could have been stern without resorting to the language he used, but are in no way apologetic about calling out that a boundary was crossed again.
3) I wasn’t there when the second incident happened but I 100% trust my husband and know he has no reason to lie. My brother on the other hand has a big pattern of lying. Let's start with me I am playing a casual Hightower with like 4 people And I use my casual strategy of sticky jumping with the sticky jumper nto their base and bomb the frick them But there is this guy name "Lappier gaming" Keep building dispenser and sentries but he keep getting kill by me and his building destroyed After that he just ask "why" And I respond "this is Hightower" And after a while, he unleash his toxicity He said my mom had no word to me and call me gay ai because I spam "cry" Into the chat He rage to sniper, I outsnipe him He rage to spy, I got him with Pyro He rage to heavy, I yet destroy him again as Pyro He rage back to engi and then build a sentry at the place where sniper rampage so I change to soldier to shoot it down And then he rage to soldier but then a f2p just destroy him with the direct hit At this point I want him to chill but he just get more toxic every second to the point he look at me and said that my mom had no words at me And then he just ragequit I am Alum1numVN And this guy said I am not a living thing which true because aluminum is a metal not a living thing But for the entire game he stands no chance against me as he always die I wish toxic player are gone, they are not allow to exist to ruin the game
