My wife (20F) is an AU on both my cards but doesn’t have any in her name. We are both college students. I would like to get a third card in my name and one for her, but I’m wondering if it would be smart to only open one in her name given the recent inquiry on my report.

My son [19M] filed harassment charges against me and my husband because we were making him go to college
Me and my son moved to US last year. I was a single mom for 16 yrs before I met and then married my husband. I saved up money so he can go to college. Where I came from, college is very important. We moved to a small town and my son found new friends. These friends in my opinion were not a good influence. I am used to polite and academically oriented kids back home. These new friends of his make fun of his books and his plans of going to college.
Before his HS graduation, me and my husband took him to several unis in the state so he could get a feel for which one he would like to go to. Then after he graduated from HS, I told him I have about $20k saved up for college. He said it is not going to fit because tuition is pretty expensive nowadays. I suggested he can just go to a community college 20 mins away and live at home to save money. He agreed and I gave him access to the fund (joint account).
Long story short, he did not enroll himself and instead started partying a lot and used the money on expensive dates with his gf. He moved out and stopped talking to me. I worked hard to save that up for more than a decade and I am upset that he wasted it in less than a year. Me and my husband went to his place and asked that he pay me back since it is specifically for college and not "fun money".
He called the police and filed harassment charges. I told the police to review the cctv footage because the whole time I was talking to him through his ring cam, I was calm and reasonable and my husband was just standing behind me not saying anything. I was outside the door talking, he never even opened the door to talk to me face to face. The police said there's nothing he can do if my son and his gf felt "harassed", he can file a restraining order if he wants to.
Back home, this is unforgivable to treat your parent like this. But here in US, I was treated almost like a criminal. My sister in law said it is my fault for confronting him and that the money is his to spend since I made him a joint account owner. Am I wrong?
Edit: People cursing me because I said something about wanting to throw my chancla on my son's face, to be clear I have never laid my hands or my flip flops on him ever. But after what he did, my intrusive thoughts wants me to throw it but of course I won't. If he called the cops on me just because I want to talk to him, what more if I threw my flip flops on his face??
His relationship with me before moving to US was fine. He knew my struggle as a single mom and he always try to help me around the house. I was not strict at all he was free to go out with friends anytime. He was even thrilled to have a father figure and my husband always try to make him feel included in everything.

Honestly I think a lot of parents don’t realize the depth of their children and forget that just because you think of them as one way doesn’t mean they don’t have other layers that can make them a different person. Sadly your son has found some less than savory friends to surround himself with and now he has to live with the decision he made. I honestly wouldn’t offer help for university again and would leave communication up to him. Also has there been any questions or discussion of potential drug use??

The money is gone. And since he was a joint account holder and a legal adult, there’s nothing to be done except refuse to help him financially anymore. Let him figure it out on his own from now on. The friends he had will likely drift away now that he no longer has a fat bank account to fund their party lifestyle.

I still have not heard from my son and I don't expect him to reach out. But his gf's mother has called me asking if my house is still open to him. I asked her why, it turns out he hasn't paid his share of the last month's rent and his gf had to pay it for him.
I said it is not my problem and he is not welcome anymore in my house since he is an adult. The gf's mom said "what kind of mother would not extend help to his teenage son?". She further insulted me and said now she knows why he left me.
At this point I really don't care anymore. I tried to help him get a good start in life but he wasted it. Aside from the $20k, he lived rent free in the house, free food, free phone, car, gas money, and I pay all the utility bills and his health insurance. All I asked is that he focus on his studies. Finish at least an associate's degree so he can get a decent job and be fully independent from me asap.
For some who asked why college is so important to me, as an immigrant, we are held under certain standards. We have to prove to USCIS that we will not become a public charge -- meaning we won't rely on any government aid. I want him to be able to be a good immigrant and become productive. I don't even know if he can become a citizen if he makes below poverty income. I was just trying to make sure he gets to live a good life.
Some of you asked if he even wanted go to to college. Back when we were in our home country, he begged me to pls send him to college no matter what.
P.S. The harassment charge was closed for lack of evidence of harassment, a lot of what he said were lies.
Edit: Another thing that gave me chills was when he moved out it was the middle of the night and me and my husband were both asleep. My son left the front door hanging open (I saw it in the camera). We live in a small town but there's a lot of crime in our area, someone could have gone in and done something bad.

His girlfriend's mom called me again today and basically handed the phone to my son to "sort it out between us". I let him just talk and tell me what is on his mind. Here's a summary of his point of view:
I asked him why he left the door open that night. He went silent for a few seconds then said "I just thought that if the house get robbed, I could just say I cashed the money from the bank and the robbers must have found it". Unbelievable.
At this point I was so emotional and I was a crying mess. I told him I am deeply sorry that I was his mom and that he had to grow up feeling deprived because I was poor. Then he said "Oh stop with your guilt tripping, you are saying that to make me feel bad.
Oh and he also said he hates it when I do this. I don't yell like that lady but I pretty much bug him to get up and help me set the table. I never get a response so I had to raise my voice higher. He said I was so rude. But he grew up with this. This is me being me. All moms back home do this. Al of a sudden he is comparing me to his mom's friends. In our culture we want food to be eaten while it is fresh from the stove. I spent 1 hr cooking after a long day at work, the least you can do is help me set the table and eat my food while it's nice and warm.
I hung up. My heart is broken in so much pieces. Am I wrong?

- He felt like I deprived him of a lot of things growing up. I couldn't buy him an Xbox/playstation, iphone, or anything a teenager wants when we were in our home country. I can't afford it. Back then I was making $1k a month and saving 20% of it for his college fund and whatever was left was for us to live on. I was helping my parents too with some groceries so money was really really tight. When I look back now, I don't know how I made it all fit.
- He felt so small because his clothes were hand me downs from cousins or just cheap clothes I bought from tianguis.
- He said I was not supportive unlike his friend's parents. Some of his friends have wealthy parents who bought their sons a house and never had to go to college or think about their future because they will inherit the family farm anyway. I have no generational wealth to be that supportive. I wish I have.
- He said I have so much house rules. Yes I do. I want him to wash his plates after eating (I used to do it for him), clean his room and keep it tidy, make sure the windows are tightly shut in winter, keep the thermostat at 68 during winter to save electricity, come home at 11pm or else the house will be double locked from the inside for my safety (because my husband drives a truck and not home at night most the time). I also told him before that since he has a part time job, he can't use my credit card for anything but emergency anymore, but he still used it sometimes anyway (card's been frozen since he moved out).
- I asked him why file charges when I only wanted some explanation from him. He said he don't want to inconvenience his gf and filing charges is the easiest way to get me to stop trying to talk to him.

So after stumbling upon a post saying Skylanders only last like 10 years I’ve been hyper focused on how the NFC chips and the portals work over the past couple days. The idea Skylanders only last 10-20 years actually scared the daylights out of me and had me planning exactly my plan on how to preserve my Skylanders for my lifetime as I know one day in 50 years I’ll probably want to play this all again.
That said, through the research I have done I have discovered that the idea Skylanders NFC chip batteries only last 10 years is 100% true… just kidding it’s total bullshit.
NFC chips (Near Field Communication cards) do not have batteries, and it’s a pretty dumb idea so many people have that they do. The NFC chips in skylanders are basically the same thing as you will find on your bank card (which I assume a lot of you have cause, well, how else are you going to spent way too much money on these silly toys?).
NFC chips do not have a battery, so how do they work? So in simplest terms an NFC chip is basically just a really small really basic USB stick that communicates wirelessly to an NFC reader when in close proximity. Your phone uses a very similar method with Bluetooth, which is also why your phone can act like your bank card to pay for things.
The NFC chip consists of two things: a small antenna, and a series of coils that make up a small amount of electronic storage. The NFC reader which is the portal is basically just an electro magnet generator with an LED in it. It transmits an electro magnetic signal to the NFC chip that will communicate with it and recognize it is there. The portals electromagnetic field will give power to the NFC chip which allows them to communicate back and forth which also allows the portal to use the console information to write on the NFC chip which is how your hats, upgrades, achievements, etc. are stored.
This all we know for sure, but Activision is incredibly secretive about the technology of their NFC chips and portals so we can’t be certain of a lot of things.
We can however make assumptions based on some rules of NFC chips including some that are major misconceptions.
For one, NFC chips lasting 10 years by design is assuming environmental and use amount factors that don’t apply to the chips in skylanders
NFC chips in skylanders are protected by thick plastic that is sealed airtight to the rest of the figure that ensures ZERO dust, dirt, water, or anything else that would normally degrade the chip have no effect.
The Skylanders themselves for most people are also stored in ideal locations where the temperature is on the cooler side and mild at worst which means heat degrading the chip is also irrelevant.
NFC chips lastly do not have a limited amount of reads, they have a limited amount of rewrites which typically is set around 100,000 these days, but for early skylanders 10,000 was the minimum standard with 100,000 being assumed the theoretical maximum. Theoretically they can have far more than that given ideal environmental and use factors.
How do we know how often the portal rewrites the chip? No idea. Activision is very secretive about that information. We can assume that anytime significant information about the figure itself is needed the portal will rewrite the chip. Upgrades, nicknames, hats, level ups, trinkets, achievement completions, resets, etc. I would imagine that for efficiency reasons the game doesn’t rewrite the chip every single time you gain some xp, or everytime you collect some money, it’s likely that it rewrites it periodically when it needs to with all that information. According to some comments found on this sub it seems like it rewrites every 20 seconds at the highest not including during any time where the skylander isn’t actively in use like when the game is paused, cutscenes, while in menus, etc.
Considering a rewrite every 20 seconds of gameplay as estimated by members of this subreddit gives a skylander about 55 hours and 33 minutes of gameplay… MINIMUM with the apparent maximum being 556 hours. Given how little environmental factors effect skylanders it’s gonna be much closer to the 556 hours then the 55 hours by the time it dies if you treat that figure right.
People also like to think that the lightcores degrade faster, or are proof of the battery idea, that’s not true either. Literally all the lightcores are are normal skylanders with an LED wired to the electromagnetic receiver chip. The portal generates plenty enough power for this to work just fine without degrading the chip further.
So with all that said, don’t worry about your skylanders. They will last a lifetime no problem unless you play with specific ones all the time which just doesn’t happen because there is so many to choose from. So don’t be worried, enjoy them and treat them well.
If you are worried about using one too much, take advantage of the massive market of cheap lots right now and buy some spares.

The NFC chips in skylanders are basically the same thing as you will find on your bank card (which I assume a lot of you have cause, well, how else are you going to spent way too much money on these silly toys?).
NFC chips do not have a battery, so how do they work? So in simplest terms an NFC chip is basically just a really small really basic USB stick that communicates wirelessly to an NFC reader when in close proximity. Your phone uses a very similar method with Bluetooth, which is also why your phone can act like your bank card to pay for things.
The NFC chip consists of two things: a small antenna, and a series of coils that make up a small amount of electronic storage. The NFC reader which is the portal is basically just an electro magnet generator with an LED in it. It transmits an electro magnetic signal to the NFC chip that will communicate with it and recognize it is there. The portals electromagnetic field will give power to the NFC chip which allows them to communicate back and forth which also allows the portal to use the console information to write on the NFC chip which is how your hats, upgrades, achievements, etc. are stored.
This all we know for sure, but Activision is incredibly secretive about the technology of their NFC chips and portals so we can’t be certain of a lot of things.
We can however make assumptions based on some rules of NFC chips including some that are major misconceptions.
- NFC chips typically last ten years
- NFC chips have a limited amount of reads
- NFC chips have wear and tear from being powered
- Dust, heat, cold, and other environmental factors reduce the lifespan of NFC cards
For one, NFC chips lasting 10 years by design is assuming environmental and use amount factors that don’t apply to the chips in skylanders
NFC chips in skylanders are protected by thick plastic that is sealed airtight to the rest of the figure that ensures ZERO dust, dirt, water, or anything else that would normally degrade the chip have no effect.
The Skylanders themselves for most people are also stored in ideal locations where the temperature is on the cooler side and mild at worst which means heat degrading the chip is also irrelevant.
NFC chips lastly do not have a limited amount of reads, they have a limited amount of rewrites which typically is set around 100,000 these days, but for early skylanders 10,000 was the minimum standard with 100,000 being assumed the theoretical maximum. Theoretically they can have far more than that given ideal environmental and use factors.
How do we know how often the portal rewrites the chip? No idea. Activision is very secretive about that information. We can assume that anytime significant information about the figure itself is needed the portal will rewrite the chip. Upgrades, nicknames, hats, level ups, trinkets, achievement completions, resets, etc. I would imagine that for efficiency reasons the game doesn’t rewrite the chip every single time you gain some xp, or everytime you collect some money, it’s likely that it rewrites it periodically when it needs to with all that information. According to some comments found on this sub it seems like it rewrites every 20 seconds at the highest not including during any time where the skylander isn’t actively in use like when the game is paused, cutscenes, while in menus, etc.
Considering a rewrite every 20 seconds of gameplay as estimated by members of this subreddit gives a skylander about 55 hours and 33 minutes of gameplay… MINIMUM with the apparent maximum being 556 hours. Given how little environmental factors effect skylanders it’s gonna be much closer to the 556 hours then the 55 hours by the time it dies if you treat that figure right.
People also like to think that the lightcores degrade faster, or are proof of the battery idea, that’s not true either. Literally all the lightcores are are normal skylanders with an LED wired to the electromagnetic receiver chip. The portal generates plenty enough power for this to work just fine without degrading the chip further.
So with all that said, don’t worry about your skylanders. They will last a lifetime no problem unless you play with specific ones all the time which just doesn’t happen because there is so many to choose from. So don’t be worried, enjoy them and treat them well.
If you are worried about using one too much, take advantage of the massive market of cheap lots right now and buy some spares.

İ was driving on a road at night where the speed limit is 30 mph and was possibly going over the speed limit, but not by more than 5 mph. İ had a flashing yellow, the other direction had a flashing red. after İ had entered the intersection, another car seemingly came out of nowhere and İ hit her car. my car was totaled and undrivable, but she was able to drive away in her car. when the officer arrived he asked how fast İ was going and as İ was very shaken up İ guessed İ was going 35mph (although in hindsight İ think İ was going less.)

Okay, so for context I live in a pretty average suburban neighborhood. On the way to my family's house is a private road that has practically NO pavement on it. This road is owned by a guy I'll call: Eah(entitled asshole). Eah is very protective of this road, even has a wooden pole nearby it that has, not one, not two, but THREE signs about it. The first one simply says that the pavement ends, the second says it's a private road, and the third is a '7 mph' sign.(This third one is very important.)
My first encounter with Eah, was when my Nana was driving me home from school like one to two years back. He gestured for her to stop and roll down her window, which she did. I don't remember the exact conversation that went down, but it was some back and forth about how she was 'going over the speed limit.' (She was driving at least 3-4 mph) She ended up driving away before things could get too heated, luckily.
For the second encounter, it was just my Nana in the truck as she was driving to pick me up from school.
Needed context for this encounter: a day or two before this, my dog escaped from our property into the nearby HOH,(she will NOT stop doing this) and my Nana and another person drove down to get her. She drove slightly faster than usual through Eah's precious road while he was in the yard to get to our dog before she caused issues.
Back to the second encounter. Eah gestured for her to stop and roll down her window again. My Nana said that he accused her of going way over the speed limit and berated her for it. Upon my Nana saying that she was not speeding, he blamed it on her husband. (She's divorced and unmarried.) She said that she was divorced, and Eah replied that someone had sped down his road at at least 40 mph in her truck. Yet again she drove off, but this time gave legal authorities a tip about Eah harassing her. They didn't do anything as she didn't have amazing evidence.
The third encounter, I was with Nana again. We witnessed him stop a car with one woman inside to do the exact same process of accusing her of speeding.(She wasn't.) This woman wasn't as patient/stubborn as my Nana, and quickly drove off. Eah didn't like this at all, and flipped the woman off. Surprisingly, he didn't stop us when we passed. I think it was because either: A)I looked bigger and more masculine looking than I was during previous encounters Or B) I had my phone out, and in a position that made it look like I was recording.
We've seen him do these things with women only. A man could speed through at 100 mph and he wouldn't care.
TLDR; we have an entitled, most likely sexist neighbor who is way too obsessed with his road and accusing women of speeding down it.

Hello. Just using this post as a way to reach out for support from others. At the beginning of April my therapist emailed me to let me know their rates are changing now that they are becoming fully licensed. I did not have insurance at the time of seeking out therapists so my options were limited. Luckily my therapist has been nothing but amazing. When I first started with them I was seeing them at $50/1hr (I know how lucky that is) after about 5 months at this rate they emailed me letting me know they had to bump it up to $65 and this is where I’ve stayed since last October. April comes around and I receive the email explaining rate changes and sliding scale changes because of their licensure. The new policy completely backs me into a corner and I’m so fucking sad about it. They now only offer two sliding scale options ($100,$125 - client discretion) and you must be seeing them weekly. Otherwise you must pay the full rate of $150. I obviously cannot afford the $340 monthly increase. I know there are options like seeing them bi-weekly at the $150 rate (still $40 more and half the appointments monthly) or completely finding someone new… parts of me are able to logic with this by reminding myself how much work my T has put in, as well as money. They deserve their full rate and I wish with all my heart I could pay it. Other parts of me are so angry at my T for fully knowing my situation (I only make 23k a year, my budget is so tight I cannot afford even one misplaced dollar) and still not cutting me some sort of slack. A part of me tells me I am entitled for feeling so lost by what is happening. I suppose at the end of the day I am in a really uncomfortable situation and I do have options to see myself through but I am still heartbroken that my weekly meetings with my T are coming to a close way too soon.

My husband has a food addiction. He knows he overeats. Im pretty sure he gets fast food every time he leaves the house (and he looks for reasons to leave, like going to the store to pick up something that isnt needed immediately). When he gets food he orders a lot and he hides the bags by throwing it away in the outside trash cans. Whenever I get in his car, the bottoms of the door is stuffed with fast food napkins.
He tries to work on it but everything he does is just putting a bandaid on the problem without actually addressing it as an addiction. I don't think he has the tools to do that yet.
He'll replace some of his snacks with something marginally more healthy for a bit, want to exercise more, will order food out less...but no matter what positive improvements he makes, it ends up being short term. He's always "working on it" but can't give any solid answers as so how he is doing so. He'll lose 20 pounds or so quickly and then go back to old habits and gain it all back and then some.
Nothing sticks because it's not addressing the issue, which is that eating food is his coping mechanism for dealing with any stressor in his life. He always attributes the overeating to stress from work or stress from something else going on at the time.
He already has a general therapist he speaks to about once a month, but I don't think he is being honest with the therapist or even talking about it. He won't speak about it with me unless I bring it up, and it always goes poorly.
I can't have an earnest conversation. His first reaction is to leave the room. If I try to continue the conversation it escalates to him yelling, slamming his head against the wall, slamming doors, going out to his car and honking his horn in the garage and making nasty comments about my own inability to lose weight.
I count calories and eat healthy foods but have a thyroid condition that makes it difficult to lose weight even with this and regular exercise. Not excusing myself, but I am truly doing my best and feel zero guilt about my own habits.
If he were really doing his best and not losing weight I would not care. It's the fact that he does not treat this like a serious problem. I'm concerned about him treating his body like a used car he can turn in for a better one in a decade when it gets rundown.
I also grew up in a house with a different kind of addict and I cannot tolerate the addict behavior; the lying, the hiding things, the avoidance, the nasty comments directed at me to derail the conversation. I'm reaching the end of my rope. I do not know how to help if I can't even broach the subject anymore without it turning nuclear.
I can't make him get help. I've tried to find resources for him, but the most he will do is "consider" them. He prefers just sticking a bandaid on the problem with temporary changes that look good in the short term so we don't have to talk about it for a bit.

And I bumped into a very familiar name. Syed Balkhi. The millionaire teen.I first heard of Syed long ago in 2006 when I started blogging. But little did I pay attention to what he did. All I knew was that he had a website called WPBeginner.It was a blog about WordPress for people who built WordPress websites or plugins. I liked his content and spent a lot of time reading his blog posts as I was building WordPress websites too. Syed is in his thirties today. Which means he must’ve been in his early teens in 2006! In about eighteen months of starting WPBeginner, he made his first million dollars in annual revenue. And ever since, he’s grown his business, Awesome Motive, big time by acquiring other WordPress companies. If you aren’t familiar with WordPress, it’s a CMS software. Content Management System, in short. It’s a software that supposedly powers 40% of the internet. But that’s not the best part. I was on a run while listening to this, and almost tripped when he said that. Okay. Take a deep breath. I did that too… Coz from this point on, it’s PURE GOLD. And here goes the first and biggest lesson in wealth creation… Tip #1: Every time you need to buy a depreciating asset, invest in an appreciating asset.Syed says he learned this lesson from his mentor when he was thirteen or fourteen.The best way to understand this is to loop back to my opening story… When I bought my first car, I paid the monthly installments using my salary. But when Syed’s mentor bought his Mercedes, he didn’t spend money from his savings. Instead, he decided to invest money in real estate. And he used the returns from that real estate to finance his shiny new Mercedes. When Syed’s wife was pregnant with their first son… He followed the exact blueprint. He knew the money one would need with a baby birth – hospital charges, medicines, diapers, toys, and everything else! So instead of spending money from his savings, Syed used the lesson he learned from his mentor to cover the cost of raising a baby – he bought a gas station! It didn’t just give him the money to pay for the baby shower and childbirth. The gas station would continue to generate a steady flow of cash every single year. Darn! Why didn’t it ever strike me before? Mentor, baby! I’m glad to have found one in a podcast! Okay, let’s look at the next one… Tip #2: Build a recurring revenue businessIn a content business, you turn email subscribers into paying customers. But Syed calls them just re-occurring revenue. The revenue occurs every time someone on your list buys something from you.A new customer pays once. And unless you sell them something else, you aren’t going to make bank. The only way your business is going to see revenue trickle in from that customer is when you sell to them again. The solution? Build a recurring revenue business. Syed regularly invests and acquires other WordPress software and tools businesses. This allows him to cross-sell software and tools to existing info product customers. Of course, you can build recurring revenue info products too, using memberships and subscriptions – but Syed didn’t get into that on this podcast. So yes, using revenue to acquire new businesses is a great idea. But how much should you invest? Syed has stuck to one principle: Tip #3: Heads I win, tails I don’t lose muchSyed learned this principle from his friend Monish Pabrai.In his book The Dhando Investor, Monish talks about the Patels of India. He describes how this relatively tiny subset of humanity from eastern India went on to own most of the motels in the United States. According to Monish, one of the biggest reasons why the Patels have been successful in business is because they always have followed this principle – heads I win, tails I don’t lose much. So what does this mean? Let’s look at it with an example. Assume the intrinsic value of a certain business is $1,000,000, and you buy it for $700,000. What you just did in that transaction is what he describes as a “heads I win, tails I don’t lose much”. Because let’s say you did a great job with the business and the intrinsic value went up – you win! But just in case you didn’t do much with the business and the intrinsic value dropped by $400,000, you only lose $100,000. Heads you win, tails you don’t lose much! This is wild! At this point, I was fully invested in listening to this conversation. And I was just getting restless thinking… “How can I buy a business on the cheap?” And it just felt like the hosts heard me! Let’s look at the answer to my question. Tip #4: Identify “mismanaged gems” to compound at high double-digitBack in the 1990s, my uncle built an empire buying distressed real estate properties. And it wasn’t easy. Every time he bought one, there was a lot of work to be done.From litigation and dispute issues to structural issues, he was usually handed a mess. That’s why they were called distressed assets – thankfully, my uncle had the wherewithal to turn them around. Mismanaged gems are different. Syed describes mismanaged gems as good (online) businesses with some limitations. These could be in the form of having limited revenue streams, limited target audience, or something else. Let’s look at a couple of examples…
“A business might only be thinking about monetizing from one angle. They’re not thinking about it from a full perspective. So I can look at it and say well yes this is the current revenue today, and I’m getting a bargain on today’s revenue. But here are my contracts that I have with so many different partners and vendors and such that I’ll be able to unlock extra revenue here, here, and here. So I turned this business that has one revenue stream to having like multiple revenue streams. That’s how you take something that was doing like no revenue to or very low revenue to having five eight ten million dollars in revenue.” – Syed Balkhi Tip #5: Leverage the Ecosystem effectIf you’re starting a business, look for an ecosystem. What does that mean?Syed’s entire online business is built around the WordPress ecosystem. But there are many other software platforms like WordPress that have an ecosystem. Look at software like QuickBooks, Google Chrome, or Xero. These software platforms are built like an ecosystem, allowing developers to build plugins and extensions. Most of these plugins and extensions are sizeable businesses in and of themselves. So if you’re starting a business, you’re better off starting one inside an ecosystem. Starting a business inside an ecosystem exposes you to massive opportunities. You can grow your business through acquisitions, and cross-selling, amongst many other ways. And this also helps you compound over time. How I've managed to keep my teeth in good shape despite 10 years of extreme bulimia: a harm reduction guide
I 25f began purging when I was 14. It spiraled fast, and I've had many health scares regarding my heart and esophagus resulting in hospitalizations. I'm very careless with nearly every aspect of my health...except for my teeth. Over a decade later, with purging so frequent I've barely made it out of the extreme category of bulimia but a few months in that time span, and for now, my teeth are still looking great. I know this can change at any moment-- ten years means little when I know I'll be purging forever, and at some point I'm bound to ruin my teeth. But for now, I remain diligent in my dental routine, and my dentist is always impressed. So I've decided to outline a few points I've come up with that have helped me prolong the health of my teeth before the inevitable decay that comes with bulimia.
To begin, I am privileged in that I grew up in a household that prioritized dental health. When I developed anorexia and then bulimia, I had perfect teeth. So if you purge and are not as lucky as I've been in terms of minimal decay, it isn't your fault and you aren't doing anything wrong-- this disorder ruins teeth and some people like myself come into it with an advantage, whether that be from genetics or growing up with regular dental care.
That being said, dental care is the #1 recommendation I can make. I get my teeth cleaned and I have x-rays every 6 months minimum. If I notice a tooth feels weird, I go in more often than that. If you don't have dental insurance, a lower-cost option could be a dental school. I know there are a lot of barriers to treatment, especially preventative treatment, but there's no time like now to start if you've let it slide. No matter how bad your teeth are, dentists have seen worse, and you deserve to be treated without judgement. I'm 100% upfront with my dentist, so they know to look for ed-specific decay and to help me minimize damage.
I personally use ionite toothpaste, which contains prescription strength fluoride. I brush a minimum 2x a day. I do not rinse after I brush. I floss daily. I keep floss with me at all times. I don't let sugar stay on my teeth.
For b/p sessions, I try to avoid highly sugary binges. I know everyone has different triggers, but I think a large part as to why I haven't had as much decay is because I try to avoid anything that I feel is hard on my teeth, like ice cream or candy. I don't know if there's any solid basis for this, but I've never been a huge sugar consumer. I don't drink non-diet pop, I don't smoke, I'm sober. I think all these lifestyle choices have helped to offset my bulimia damage. Obviously, bulimia and addiction is very personal, but to minimize damage to my teeth personally, I chose purging over other habits and stick to it, so I'm not compounding decay. Is this realistic for everyone? Of course not. It's just what I find reduces harm to me, so I felt it worth mentioning. Any amount of behavior curbing you can do is a good thing.
So, as a TL;DR, some things I've found helpful to mitigate damage to my teeth from my bulimia personally are: -bi-yearly or more cleanings and x-rays -treat any tooth asap-- don't let it get worse -prescription grade toothpaste 2x daily -floss daily - minimize sugary binges (not always realistic) - no smoking or drinking - no brushing after purging (tbh I don't even rinse)
These are PERSONAL, not universal. This is just my lifestyle choices that have intentionally or unintentionally let me maintain good dental health while still indulging bulimia for a decade.

Some of the commenters during Sunday's Stream mentioned the global campaign to bring federal lawsuits and petitions against videogame publishers who intentionally sabotage the functionality of videogames when the servers shut down. They wanted Ludwig to do a Mogul Mail about it. I wasn't 1 of those commenters, nor am I a representative spearheading this initiative, but I am somewhat familiar with what's going on and wanted to explain it here to see if others are interested. So what is going on?

They don't want you to own your games. They want to be able to take away the thing you "purchased", destroy it so it no longer works, and force you to buy something new.

Whenever you "buy" an ebook or movie from, say, Apple, Amazon, Google, etc., or a videogame from Steam, Sony, etc., you don't actually own that piece of digital media. You are renting the product and getting a perpetual license. That license can be revoked at any time for any reason by the company and you will have the thing you "bought" revoked.
This has happened a lot over the years. For example: Telstra.
Microsoft Book Store
In 2019, Microsoft shut down their ebook store, erasing all customers' books from their devices. Fortunately, Microsoft offered a refund for the books purchased. Something they did to not raise customer ire, not because they were legally required to do so.
They are able to completely erase the books the customers "bought" because of Digital Rights Management (DRM)
Sony
TV Shows "purchased" through the Play Station store were slated to be erased according to an announcement in December 2023. However, do to the immense and justified backlash, they reneged for now.
Apple
Apple can remove a movie from the App Store and, in some cases, make it impossible for you to access your "purchased" version if you don't have it downloaded. Source
Amazon

The videogame "The Crew", published by Ubisoft, was recently destroyed for all players and had a playerbase of at least 12 million people. Due to the game's size and France's strong consumer protection laws, this represents one of the best opportunities to hold a publisher accountable for this action. If we are successful in charges being pressed against Ubisoft, this can have a ripple effect on the videogames industry to prevent publishers from destroying more games.Source

Official government petitions have been introduced to prohibit the practice of intentionally rendering commercial videogames inoperable when support ends. Currently, petitions for the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia have been launched and will soon be open for signing. Plans are also underway for the European Union, but will unfortunately be delayed due to processing times. Further government petitions may be started later with enough assistance.You can go to the website https://www.stopkillinggames.com and click "take action here" to sign a petition for your country. Depending on the country you're in, you may have to have actually owned the game "the crew" in order to sign, but regardless it's important to understand this increasingly prevalent issue and bring awareness to it.

So Chris during this time takes a job at his dad’s store after a short stay last summer there and apparently he has excelled his limit in piano teaching from Nan Martin. After a few days at the shop,Chris seems to get tired of it and still dreams of his piano days. Also maybe due to him being a teen heartthrob,Chris Gartin randomly takes his shirt off for some reason during a scene. It should be noted before this,he I believe had to give mail to someone and that’s where runs into Dr.Quinn herself,Jane Seymour who plays Haddley Norman,a famous pianist and he even gets to enjoy hearing her tickle the ivorys. A few days after that mail thing,Chris meets up again with Dr.Quinn and he asks her to sign his album as he’s a big fan. On Halloween,as he’s out with friends. Chris rescues Dr.Quinn’s dog from a train. So he goes back to the Australian’s house and he tells her he’s 18. (In reality,Chris Gartin was a 15 year old kid in this and he’s really good for his age). He also says music is all he cares about and he’s done it for 10 years. Chris 2 months later lis living his life on Christmas Eve but when he does spot Seymour getting into her car,he goes over for her house. He spots her I guess drunk and badly injured. Anyways Chris being the hero here stays the night to make sure one of his heroes is ok and puts Seymour to bed like he’s her mom. Chris also seems to express little interest in his family and he learns more about Seymour that she has an ex and Chris’s family don’t drink and he has a minister for a granddaddy. He also says he has not a lot of buddies but he does relate to Dr.Quinn and says he wants to play for her cause he is good. Although she doesn’t seem to get Chris so he barges out and gets scolded by the fam for not coming home on Christmas. His dad remarks “take a cold shower kid”. On NYE. He runs into with Seymour and so he gives her a ride and it’s here she gets to listen to his piano playing on a cassette tape. He shows off his skills more at her house. She seems to think of Chris as a copycat and he begins to walk out until Seymour gives him a somewhat lecture on the art of being a pianist. During this she offers Chris time to work as her student for piano lessons. He remarks he doesn’t known how to thank her before leaving with A YES on his way out. Nan Martin seems to be amazed by Dr.Quinn’s arrival here and thinks Chris could make a living as a pianist. We get a taste of piano school here and Seymour doesn’t tell her guy buddy why she’s here. More piano school and lecturing is followed for some reason by Dr.Quinn wondering if her student has a crush and says it doesn’t amount to a hill of beans. Chris though says you don’t know me well and is shocked his piano teacher doesn’t call him a buddy. He is stunned by the cruelness and barges out for like 2 seconds. And then for some odd reason. He comes back and 15 year old Chris Gartin gives 39 year old Jane Seymour a kiss and says he needs her and wants to make love,(that sure doesn’t age well). Well for some reason she gives in after not being into it. And we get a romance montage and we see 15 year old Chris Gartin on the couch with a topless Jane Seymour (WTF HOLLYWOOD). There’s more odd scenes in this montage as Chris learn he’s in a piano contest. Oh and he’s shirtless a lot like Noah Hathaway in Troll or Tom Howell in Red Dawn. Chris comes home after 3 months and his dad given the times asks if he’s a word I can’t use. He says nope and then says he’s banging a 40 year old. His dad goes she’s old enough for your mom. To which we get a line I laughed hard to. “I’m not thinking about mom when I’m doing it”. Chris is still skilled at the piano but romance is hitting the rocks kinda with some hard teaching. We see topless Seymour again in bed with a 15 year old teen idol talking about love. (This is like A Tiger’s Tale if Ann Margaret dated Brian Austin Green). Some more piano teaching and Chris rubs into his buddy who’s girlfriend’s pregnant and he’s working with his uncle. And then love breaks up as Dr Quinn comes home from something in NYC and rejects the hunk’s kisses after he wonders if there’s cheating going on and says he’s a selfish little horny brat and they are DONE after he kisses her for the last time. Chris says he hates her and calls her the B word and so she slaps his face. Following this,Chris that night goes to her house and says don’t do this and damn you. 2 weeks later,still in love,he goes back to her house only to learn her ex is there getting her things. It’s here the ex learns about their May/December and we then learn Seymour has had cancer for a year and is dying. After refusing to give out the hospital. Steven after talking his future wit his buddy and his dad visits her in the hospital. We learn he’s off to a piano event. We see him singing up. And so then ad an event. He uses his ex’s words in the hospital on her cancer and their romance to help him out and win. He plays her music at an event and goes to Dr Quinn’s hospital and after talking piano and then he is told not to visit and he should never give up. The Australian beauty also tells him to have no regrets about their fling and in a very emotional moment,tells him that she loved him very much. (This got me kinda teared up). Chris breaks down in the hospital bathroom. At the big piano event,our boy brings the house down and wins the comp. This was likely live as Seymour is watching it in the hospital before she sadly dies. After he wins he goes to call his crush but it’s too late. We get treated to a monologue about his feelings and the flick ends. This was the last movie Natalie Wood signed on to before her death. Timothy Hutton who had an Oscar then was to play Chris’s role. The reason this is a bad movie is the casting. Kirk Cameron or one of the Corey boys would be better as legal adults then some 15 year old who I very much liked here. A few years back my son was being made I was going to school 8hr per day 5x per week and then going to work 8-12 hours 5x per week and I was making time to do plasma donation and it got to a point where my mental health was awful and i would tell myself it’s ok to get going because if I quit my son won’t have a father that is actually able to be in his life because he doesn’t have enough money to provide and I was also in abusive relationship so it ended up getting to a point where I didn’t have enough time to sleep and I would get less than 4 hours of sleep most nights with a 30 min nap sometime during the day then I crashed my car Then I crashed my gf car Then My son was born and my mom kicked us out and we moved to California And I just kept on rolling and rolling and rolling annnnnnnd ROLLLLLING with the punches
But towards the end aswell as throughout it I thought ya know I’m lucky to have a son to look forward to I’m lucky to even still have this job I’m lucky to have an option other than homeless And that’s gratitude and I don’t really believe in luck but I do believe my is the thing that kept me alive

- Japanese brand - I've started to appreciate their simplicity
- Easy to work on
- A nice interior - Doesn't mean it needs to be luxurious, just that it feels like it was nicely put together, the layout makes sense
- To give you some guidance, I felt my 2005 Toyota Corolla CE had a nice interior, much nicer than the economy cars of today at times. The plastics were soft to the touch. I hate my 2015 Nissan Sentra's interior materials with a passion.
- Reliability - I work from home, but I'd still appreciate something that will start up every time. Would be nice to have something I have full confidence in taking a road trip in.
- Good on highways - I really wanted to like the Honda Fit, but I don't think this is something I could live with since when I do drive, it's 60% highway, 40% city.
- "Practicality" - At most, I only drive 1 other person around. so I don't discount coupes. I also don't mind if I need to fold the backseats to give me more cargo space. At minimum, I want to be able to transport generators that are 23 x 18 x 20 in dimensions.
- I'm open to any body style (coupe, sedan, SUV, etc)
- A decent aftermarket support would be nice - I am not looking to modify anything that would affect the engine reliability. My mods would pretty much be cosmetic, and fitting the best tires on it, maybe anything related to handling if I'm feeling adventurous.

My wife plans to find a job too, but she is a specialist with a doctorate as well and it may take some time to find something suitable. For the expenses, I am thinking a 3-4-bedroom apartment in some nice part of Espoo, all utilities, all groceries, all daycare costs, a car insurance and gasoline, some cheaper hobbies (150 Euro a month maybe) and something on top to start building our new life there (IKEA is cheap, but still...). That is a pay I need to ask for. Some things like rent I can find out, I am seeing around 1500 Euro per month for what we would want to have, but for some of the other expenses, I am really not sure.
Third question: How critical is the knowledge of Finnish to live in Espoo/Helsinki? I am eager to learn it, but it will take a couple years.

Long Story for an example of a fight:
I had a haircut the day prior and my girlfriend noticed the product that was used for my haircut was good. It kept my hair in a certain shape that looks good. The day before, she said I should ask what product the hairstylist used, when I get the chance. Today, I showered and noticed my hair was still shaping correctly after it was dry and I talked to her about the product. I wanted to say that I won't be calling the stylist because I think my hair is shaping fine. I don't remember how I specially worded it, but that made her want to help find ways to shape my hair right, and started talking about how she has a hair spray that doesn't feel sticky and hard like a Gel. I rejected her and said I don't want hair spray. she felt offended because I said no without fully listening to her. she asked me why I don't want hair spray, and it was the same reason that she gave to me why she normally doesn't like hairspray, and that the hair spray she is recommending is not like other hairspray. she felt hurt and rejected. I felt like it's the morning and we are fighting again. I smirked when she started to have more stern tone, and that was inconsiderate of me. I didn't want to be bogged down by this again and keep constantly fighting, because I thought I only said one sentence that caused the fight, which was that I don't want hair spray. it became worse and we argued. she told me why what I did was disgusting. I asked her question and shot her down when she was just trying to help. she just kept saying to check myself. I realized I just said that about the product to her because I didn't want product in my hair. so I wasn't being straight with my intention when speaking. I said sorry and apologized about how I was speaking and how I know I need to work on it. we reconciled and went to work out, not fully reconciled.
On the way to the gym, she mentioned that I should seriously check myself, and that my sorry in the future might not cut it anymore. that made me be negative and shut down again. I contemplated about breaking up and why we should even be together still because we fight every week. I have been emotionally drained. We had fights a few days ago as well. While in the negative mood, I worked out, and after I was done, I sat next to her to stretch while she was working out. I closed my eyes and stretched and after a while, I see her waiting, standing right in front of me. She said something on the line of if I was done with working out. I just nodded my head without talking. After that she just started walking out without waiting for me. I noticed she was upset still. On the car, it was silent for a while until I asked what she was going to eat. She said she doesn't know. I said something on the lines of that she should eat something. She was planning to eat buffet in the evening with her friends. I thought she should still eat something until then because we still had 4 hours. She said "if I eat I'll be full." I said she should still eat something. She repeated the same thing that if she eats she will be full. But I said to her that there's other process going on in the body after she eats and that she will digest. She thought that I was condescending because I was telling her something she already knows and I repeated 4 times. I did that because she gave me the same answer. She started cursing and yelling at me. I am not feeling good about this relationship. I know I hurt her and she has reasons to yell and curse at me, but I can't continue if the environment is like this.
Is it worth it to continue this relationship? We have been constantly fighting every week for a year and a half after we moved in together. We have been in the relationship for more than 5 years. We have "broken up" 5 times, but I only physically left the place for a week once. She loves me, and I love her, but she believes I love her even less. She is willing to work it through, and won't quit until I do. If we ever break up, it will have to be me who decides. In the relationship, I know I have to grow and become better. During the relationship, I know I focused mainly on work to grow my career, and she has been feeling neglected. I have also been neglecting my own physical health for my work, and she feels that I am not prioritizing her. Which if I think about it, is true. She has been great and independent. She is financially stable, and makes more than me. I feel like she is way better than me. And I know I have to work on myself dramatically. Not just for the relationship, but also as an adult. She lived independently for years before meeting me, and she is very self sustainable. I haven't been, and I only do things the bare minimum to survive, as she puts it. For every fight, she had guided me to resolve it. When we fight, we talk for hours. It always starts with me hurting her from what I say, and I get triggered by her tone and it feels condescending. When I get triggered, I shut down, staying quiet and sometimes I talk back to justify my actions. In the end, I try my best to put down my ego. We end up reconciling with me saying sorry and apologizing. I do feel bad for causing her pain. These days it's starting to be worse in my opinion. I keep making similar mistakes as before, and she becomes livid and start cursing and yelling. I feel disrespected and frustrated. I talk back and always end up saying sorry and reconciling. I just want to know if there is light at the end of the tunnel. I want to change, but I feel it's hard to in this environment that I am seeing as toxic for the both of us. How do I change myself faster?
I need to work on communication skills. Speaking with my true intentions rather than phrasing that would cause miscommunication.
I need to be more considerate, and watch what I say to not offend, even if we are comfortable with each other.
I need to be more considerate in doing things for my girlfriend. She has been doing way more for me than I have for her.
I need to be stepping up more for the household, and I know this is not fair for her.
I want to do all these, but it makes me feel depressed every time we fight, and wares me down. If I'm not in love fully with her, I want to make it grow, and I want to reach her with the same intensity that she does. Love isn't enough, and I know I have to work harder to be better.
