Top 10 Movies to Watch When Working From Home
Working from home has become the de facto standard for companies these days which means things might get monotonous for you folks at times. In case you have a spot of time on your hands while taking a break, here are the top 5 movies to watch while working from home:

Top 10 Movies to Watch When Working From Home

1. Trading Places (1983)

I gleaned the plot of this entire movie with just a single easter egg from the movie "Coming to America" starring Eddie Murphy. I'm not saying the plot of Trading Places is that simplistic, but the movie was that popular and well-executed.
https://preview.redd.it/tb1o1qu4ex3d1.png?width=417&format=png&auto=webp&s=29362d29a4c7987f88bf113a8b4ff3fd5fb9398f
This movie revolves around two wealthy commodities brokers who run a social experiment on two people from different strata of society to settle the nature and nurture debate. Unbeknownst to them the two subjects of the experiments have plans of their own to turn the tide in their favor.
Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche play the role of the Duke brothers, the steel-hearted multi-millionaires who think it fun to play around with the lives of Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy as Lois Winthorpe and Billy Ray Valentine.
There is a lot of buddy comedy material, a cliche yet, well-done storyline, and an expected redemptive story arc.

2. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

In case you ever feel like taking a personal day off work, this is the perfect movie to watch. The plot here revolves around a slacker who fakes being sick to go on a joy ride through the city.
https://preview.redd.it/hw5bpateex3d1.png?width=893&format=png&auto=webp&s=f9a408b9e096c5c5a2504387904bb6cd13612663
Mathew Broderick plays the role of Ferris Bueller who convinces his best friend and girlfriend to play hooky while going on an elaborate adventure. There's juvenile behavior, childish pranks, great music, and one awesome Star Wars reference.
https://preview.redd.it/wa67x8tgex3d1.png?width=875&format=png&auto=webp&s=02d6cb7fa9b2d002a4fe03b24dbbe918d94b1248
There have always been theories of Ferris being the split personality persona of his best friend Cameron played by Alan Ruck. Another theory speculates that it is actually Cameron's fever dream, imagining the whole day while being sick at home.
This movie is part of pop culture and is hinted at in the Deadpool movie end credits as well.
You might like Aachar & Co. Depicts the Middle-Class Family as the Comedy Lead

3. Tommy Boy (1995)

One of the better movies by David Spade, Tommy Boy is a buddy comedy with a Laurel and Hardy dynamic, graced by the comedic stylings of Chris Farley.
https://preview.redd.it/rgowtn1jex3d1.png?width=428&format=png&auto=webp&s=a0e2180804bb6834b772961c54aa154ec4ea09e1
Chris Farley plays Tommy Callahan III an easygoing goofball who rides on his industrialist father's (Big Tom) coat-tails until he dies unexpectedly thrusting the son into an unwelcome position of responsibility.
Meanwhile, Tommy gets a stepbrother in the form of Richard played by David Spade. As fate would have it, Tommy and Richard need to join forces to save Big Tom's manufacturing plant by getting a big sale order.
Find out Why Two and a Half Men is a Tragic Series with a Laugh Track
Tommy recognizes Richard's finely tuned people skills and puts them to work in procuring a massive sales order to save his father's manufacturing plant and legacy. The movie is a fun-filled road trip that sees the step-brothers forming an unbreakable bond while battling a common problem.

4. Office Space (1999)

The dry humor in this movie is as applicable today as it was when it was released. The employees are frustrated, the boss is a gigantic douche, and growth prospects are non-existent.
https://preview.redd.it/26qglralex3d1.png?width=482&format=png&auto=webp&s=ee95f6b0d79671c53a17868eebf782bb3c3bd4c1
This is not a movie that goes with the laugh track approach wherein the comedy is obvious like in Horrible Bosses. Dark humor is employed in this movie. If you are feeling frustrated at work, then this movie might be highly cathartic for you.
All employees are seething with contempt for their jobs, workplaces, and everything related to those aspects. It is incredibly funny and reminds you of Dilbert comic strips.
Violence against people is not funny. Violence against malfunctioning technology however can be very entertaining as seen below. One of the central themes of the movie is the faulty printer that jams and swallows essential documents at crucial times.
You might like The Marvels: An Unexpectedly Fun Ride
This is what inspires the trio of employees in this movie to vent their pent-up anger against an inanimate object as if it messed up on purpose. You can see how this plays out in the images given below where they take the evil printer to an isolated location and take turns eviscerating it.
https://preview.redd.it/rr5pm81oex3d1.png?width=912&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb638220bd4f442bb923c8ae9339f659914d2399
This movie has been a cult classic for quite some time with references to it in pop culture. Anyone who has watched The Mandalorian will know the reference to TPS reports by Bill Burr in one of the episodes.

5. Being John Malkovich (1999)

One of the most John Malkovich of all Malkovich movies is undoubtedly Being John Malkovich. This movie has the titular actor playing a fictionalized version of himself although the more you watch the more you feel this is him in real life.
John Cusack plays a failing puppeteer who finds a physical door that leads into the mind of the actor John Malkovich after which you can experience life in the actor's body.
https://preview.redd.it/8tvwmlmqex3d1.png?width=405&format=png&auto=webp&s=1464632c74c8f4c8fca563070c149dfc2ef90730
You BECOME John Malkovich.
Catherine Keener plays Cusack's love interest Maxine and Cameron Diaz plays the third locus in this love triangle. There is also a cameo by Charlie Sheen which is interesting.
You might like Examples of Mindfulness and Emotional Awareness in Movies
The sheer absurdity of the movie makes it funny at the beginning, but as the film progresses relationships get knotted with each other, taking a really dark turn. This is a movie that needs to be experienced without a plot summary giving things up.
However, Catherine Keener takes on movies relating to mind control such as in Jordan Peele's Get Out and Brad Bird's Incredibles 2. For some reason, this sends a chill down my spine - does she know something we all don't?

6. School of Rock (2003)

One of my all-time favorite movies is this Jack Black vehicle that feels like his personality made into a movie. Jack Black plays Dewey Finn, a wannabe rockstar who is down on his luck and living with a dweebish roommate Ned Schneebly played by Mike White.
https://preview.redd.it/9yenrzysex3d1.png?width=425&format=png&auto=webp&s=b4beb1ebff0361fd551da33bbd9fe08b6b016088
When Finn gets kicked out of his band, he stumbles upon an opportunity to impersonate his roommate as a substitute teacher at a private school for substantial money. As he goes about pretending to be a teacher he finds that the kids in his class have exceptional musical abilities that he immediately plans on exploiting for money.
However, while chasing money, Finn forms a genuine bond with his students, helps them overcome their challenges, and finds his purpose in life.

This movie has great music, an amazing comedic cast, and original songs, and one of the few to have inspired a successful musical and a not-so-successful series.

7. Yes Man (2008)

A down-on-his-luck man sinking into a self-destructive spiral of despair and negativity comes across a self-help program that changes his life. Jim Carrey's overacting is put to good use in this movie where Carrey learns to say YES to everything in his life - to hilarious effect.
The images given below show the moments when Carrey is introduced to the concept of saying yes, when he meets the semi-cult self-help leader, and when he is taking action as a Yes Man. ( Saying yes to all that life has to offer)
https://preview.redd.it/vlg7qqivex3d1.png?width=907&format=png&auto=webp&s=52d4273efa6611eaca5ba7d55cbfdef0bc9286b0
What will you learn from this movie:
  • All skills you pick up from random workshops will be directly useful in everyday situations ( Re: Slumdog Millionaire)
  • Take things literally at first when attending a self-help workshop

8. Up in the Air (2009)

George Clooney at his dramatic best is something you wouldn't wanna miss. As an instance of the old ushering in the young at a corporate workplace, this is insightful and entertaining at the same time.
Clooney serves as a contrast against the vulnerability of a corporate drone while being considerate to the people he fires - for a living. The tables are turned however when a young ivy-leaguer decides that the company needs a makeover.
Also, read Netflix Movie Review: Don't Look Up
The whole movie is about Clooney training his replacement and getting a dose of his bitter medicine in the process.
https://preview.redd.it/07ae1zezex3d1.png?width=906&format=png&auto=webp&s=0054645408c5d16d6b21e1397535462083d924d9
The cinematography is great in this movie, with beautiful aerial shots and stills portraying silence and contemplation. They explore loneliness and self-discovery in Up in the Air.
This is a quiet movie with a slow pace and great acting. You get to see many metaphors play out throughout the movie.

9. Horrible Bosses (2011)

Taking the a**hole boss stereotype to the max, Horrible Bosses is a laugh riot with a lot of physical comedy and dirty jokes aplenty. Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis, and Charlie Day play Nick, Kurt, and Dale, the hapless employees with a monstrous boss.
Explore Into the Spiderverse: Every Spider-Man Movie Franchise
The comedy in this movie is due to the great chemistry shared by the three actors shown below. They always end up quarreling and at each other's throats, but make it through dire straits through sheer dumb luck.
https://preview.redd.it/b57wt0t3fx3d1.png?width=420&format=png&auto=webp&s=7fbdbb8712cf9699e6f1dcb10f0049b478b18ebb
Anyone looking for a whole load of laughs will find this movie delightful, with Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, and Julie Bowen adding to the comedy.

10. The Intern (2015)

Nancy Meyers always makes pleasant movies, leaving you feeling all warm and fuzzy by the end. This movie is no exception with Robert De Niro playing a man (Ben) who thinks that "he still has music left in him," and Anne Hathaway playing the role of a young CEO (Jules) running a growing e-commerce start-up.
https://preview.redd.it/l5iseqn6fx3d1.png?width=430&format=png&auto=webp&s=6429310ef5af49ff376ad39b209362706f8c3b34
The movie brings both the actors together by having DeNiro volunteer as a Senior (Citizen) Intern at Hathaway's company. De Niro and Hathaway form an unlikely bond that enriches their lives and watching this happen onscreen is a genuine joy.
Check out Cheerful Episodes of Star Trek The Next Generation and The Original Series
You also get memorable performances from comedy regulars such as Adam Devine, and Zack Pearlman, and a great cameo by Rene Russo. One of the cutest actors in this movie is JoJo Kushner playing the adorable child of the CEO and she does an amazing job, adding to how warm and fuzzy the movie makes you feel.

Is it OK to watch TV while working from home?

Now, this is an interesting question. The purpose of this post is not to make you drop all you're doing and start streaming content.
In case you are on a break from work (Lunch/Tea) or experiencing unexpected downtime, then it's good to have a backup playlist of movies. You can stream a show or watch part of a movie when you are taking a break from work tasks.
Check out El Conde: A Quirky and Fun Chilean Film on Netflix

What should I binge-watch while working from home?

If you are working from home, then I would advise you not to binge anything during work hours and even during your off-time. Binging content means spending more than an hour of your time watching consecutive episodes of a show or two complete movies back to back.
Binge-watching is best done over the weekend when there's no other good alternative such as hanging out with your friends.

2024.06.01 08:51 Saeigan MASS FOR THE DEAD Director’s Letter vol.18

https://overlord-game.com/news/2024060102

June has arrived and with it comes the season of June Brides.
This is the time of year when many weddings take place, and a festive atmosphere prevails. How are you all doing?
This is Fujita, director of “MFTD.”

Now, in the world of "MFTD."
the story event "A Young Lady Casting a Shadow of Ambition" has begun, featuring Lupusregina and Renner in gorgeous dresses. Please enjoy the story of these girls in gorgeous outfits!

Now, I would like to tell you about the current development status and future improvements.

■About the next update
We are currently working on renovating the UI of the strengthening screen, and in order to focus on this development, the next update is scheduled for July.
This UI renovation of the strengthening screen is expected to dramatically improve the "convenience" of character strengthening.
It will take some time until the next update, but please look forward to it.
We are also continuing to work on "Bug Fixes (including crash issues)."
We apologize for not being able to provide an update on the progress, but we would appreciate it if you could give us a little more time.
We will contact you with further details as they become available.

■ Regarding shop item renewal
We are planning to renew our shop items from the beginning of July.
Currently, there is a wide variety of items for sale in the game, making it difficult for users to choose items.
Therefore, we will implement the following improvements.
  1. Narrowing down the number of items
- We will carefully select the number of items for sale and review the lineup and pack contents, focusing on items that are in high demand and popular among users.
  1. Organizing the "Recommended" and "Pack" tabs
- Regular packs, whose purchase limit is reset once a month, will be moved to the "Pack" tab as a general rule, and regularly purchased packs will be collected in one place.
- Special items such as the "Fantasy Nostalgia Chaos Relic Pack" will be placed in the "Recommended" tab, making it easier to find limited-time items and special items.
We are preparing for a renewal so that users can purchase items more easily.

■ Repost & Like Campaign” to be held irregularly
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of you who have participated in the "Repost & Like Campaign" held every month on X (formerly Twitter).
This campaign will be renewed after July and will be held more irregularly.
We understand that some of you may be concerned about the loss of rewards such as chaos stones that were distributed in the campaign, but will continue to make improvements to the game, such as enhancing rewards for logging in and game play, so that everyone can enjoy “MFTD” even more.
We will contact you with more details at a later date.

■Finally,
the characters who scored high in the June survey will be promoted to 5 stars.
We will be introducing attractive characters unique to “Overlord,” so please look forward to the announcement!
We are also planning to conduct our second user survey after the transfer of management around mid-June.
Our goal is to grow and develop “MFTD” together with our users.
If you have time, we would appreciate it if you could fill out the survey.
Our entire team will continue to work hard to provide you with an even better gaming experience.
We will continue to strive to live up to the trust you have placed in us, and we look forward to your continued support.

We hope you will continue to support "MASS FOR THE DEAD."

2024.06.01 08:01 BreedableRabbit Beastars Timeline - Spoilers for the Show and eventually the manga when I get to it

I'm working out the timeline of events, feel to help me improve or work on the dates. cuz this made me want to bang my head against a wall.
Assuming the Cherryton is based in Japan and follows the Japanese term dates:
Third Term: Early January to late March First Term: Early April to late July - Summer Second Term: Early September to late December
We start the series off in winter, which in Japan is from December to February. This is indicated by everyone being in their winter uniforms. The transition to summer occurs after the Adler play, placing the start of the series in the later part of the Second Term to align with the seasonal change and the characters' school years.
This timeline matches with the main events of the first season: the Festival of the Meteor and the Shishigumi Kidnapping, which happen during the third term of the year. The murder arc occurs after this, when the characters transition back into their winter uniforms. It's stated that six months have passed since Tem was devoured, placing his death in early December (Second Term, Year 1).
The Festival of the Meteor takes place in the middle of the academic year (Third Term, Year 1 & First Term, Year 2), and the murder arc occurs in early October (Second Term, Year 2).
However, this timeline presents some issues:
Interested what you guys think - also a summary below:
Summary of the Timeline
Winter - 0 T.D.I [Tem Devouring Incident] : Second-Term - Early December
Spring/Summer 0-1 T.D.I : Third & First -Term - January onwards Ending in August.
After the festival of the meteor we do a bit of a time jump to October - the reason indicating, is well, making the timeline work with Tem's death at the beginning of the calendar year following into summer. Legoshi states to Louis when he returns briefly to resign and leave school that it's been two months since Louis disappeared, If the murder arc takes place in October that would put the festival of the Meteor in August.

Gap Chart, Tour: 2022 Spring Tour
Set 1 : Cool It Down , Foam , Knuckle Bone Broth Avenue , Dirt , 555 > Gumbo > Backwards Down the Number Line > The Wedge , About to Run , Divided Sky
Set 2 : Wilson > Simple , Prince Caspian -> Egg in a Hole > Piper > Prince Caspian , Lonely Trip > Back on the Train , Most Events Aren't Planned , Blaze On
Encore : Nothing > When the Circus Comes , The Oh Kee Pa Ceremony > Suzy Greenberg
Jamchart Notes:
Backwards Down the Number Line - Great versions produce different points to view. Be it 7/8/14's summertime "Line"d up shimmery shake; Pitt 17's huge, crazed sustain; or 10/20/21's incendiary take; this here jam features what the best "BDNTLS" have in common: Fire Trey. Largely straightforward guitar whose inspired improvisation, offset by impassioned Fish, is the best of its type, carrying you not so much backwards, as away.
Simple - Multi-faceted shapeshifter cruises through an array of styles ranging from heavenly bliss to industrial funk, eventually ascending to a sizable peak and then briefly returns to "Simple" to close.
Piper - > from "Egg in a Hole". A familiar propulsive jam develops, with the music initially coalescing around a repeated minor key motif from Trey. Fishman and Mike's driving rhythms provide a bedrock for Trey and Page to dole out a bevy of varying textures. The jam threatens to fall apart but comes back alive via a "Manteca" tease. This then morphs into a peaky, psychedelic hard rocking jam before executing a rickety > "Prince Caspian."
Show Notes:
Mike teased Do You Feel Like We Do before Dirt. Trey teased Prince Caspian near the end of Egg in a Hole. Piper contained Guy Forget teases and quotes from Page and Manteca teases from Trey. Nothing was last played on January 15, 2017 (158 shows). The Oh Kee Pa Ceremony was last played October 20, 2018 (108 shows). The soundcheck's My Soul had Guy Forget lyrics from Fish.

Backwards Down the Number Line - Fiery and rocking "Type I" version with a nice big peak.
Show Notes:
This gig featured the Phish debut of Led Zeppelin's No Quarter. Trey subsequently teased No Quarter in both Ghost and Number Line. Carini was unfinished.

1 Lyrics changed to refer to Col. (Bruce) Hampton. 2 "Reverend" Jeff Mosier on banjo. 3 "Reverend" Jeff Mosier on banjo and Oteil Burbridge on bass. 4 Crowd chanted for Fee as Fish took the stage. Fish sounded perplexed and remarked that he doesn't sing Fee, but Trey and Page started the song up anyway and left Fish on the spot. 5 Fish on vocals, aborted in chorus after first verse. [6] Fish on trombone.
Jamchart Notes:
Run Like an Antelope - Awesome version with the "Reverend" Jeff Mosier on banjo and Oteil Burbridge on bass. Great intro, good jam with a huge peak, and then a cool breakdown jam featuring the bass acompanied with scat singing.
Show Notes:
After Reba, the crowd was chanting "cheeseburger." Fish and Trey subsequently went into a rap about burgers. Trey dedicated Forbin's to the Colonial (Bruce Hampton). Forbin's was then performed with a variety of lyric substitutions of Col. (Bruce) Hampton for Col Forbin. Rocky Top through Antelope featured the "Reverend" Jeff Mosier on banjo; Antelope also featured Oteil Burbridge on bass. As Fish took the stage during HYHU, the crowd chanted for Fee. Fish sounded perplexed and remarked that he doesn't sing Fee, but Trey and Page started the song up anyway and left Fish on the spot. He tried his best and got through the first verse before falling apart during the chorus. Terrapin featured Fish on trombone. The band said "Fee" several times at that start of Possum, which contained subsequent Blue Monk teases from Trey and a Rhapsody in Blue tease from Page. BBFCFM contained an Auld Lang Syne tease from Trey. The source of Set I is phish.com.

2024.06.01 07:02 podini Kinvaras for long runs or add something else?

Title. Considering beginning first time and fairly aggressive marathon training, so I am planning to work up to 18-22 milers. First and foremost though, I know it’s going to be highly personal, and I will probably have an opinion of my own once I take them 10+, just want to get some of your thoughts.
Some background: kinvaras are literally the only shoe I have run in since 2010. Had the 1’s and 2’s in high school, didn’t run from 2011-2020. Picked up a pair of 12’s in 2020 and have basically just been running 1-2 miles two or three times a week on the treadmills at the gym after workouts. I’ll get serious about running for about 6 weeks a year in preparation for the local July 4th 5k and bump up to 15-20 miles a week, but that’s it. Right now those K12’s are about done, and I have picked up two pair of 13’s, probably less than 20 mi on each.
My only worry is: are the Kinvaras going to tear my feet up when I start going long? After looking at shoes/reviews (and the FAQs on here) for the last couple of days, it seems like most would consider them more of lightweight trainer for faster stuff. I’m 5’9” and sittin about 145 these days if that makes a difference.
Anyone with experience using them for full-on marathon training, including long runs? Is there a reason to worry about them not being enough shoe when I start going 10+? Any suggestions for alternatives? First thought would be to try the Saucony Ride, those just aren’t as sexy as all the other cool stuff I see posted on here. Endo Speeds seem to be reviewed on different sites as an all around shoe that would fit the bill, but the FAQs on here discourage using it as such.
There’s so much info out there, I’m just getting analysis paralysis, so TYIA for any thoughts!

2024.06.01 01:36 ChopperRCRG 5 Years Ago, 100 gecs Released Their Debut Album 1000 Gecs

https://preview.redd.it/m0kg6501lu3d1.png?width=220&format=png&auto=webp&s=32ed5c3c07b289deda91ef9d7042e387dae82ac8
5 years ago, 100 gecs released their debut album 1000 Gecs. The album is a very high energy experimental album that takes inspiration from many genres including ska and dubstep, and it even led to the creation of the official spotify hyperpop playlist, although they are not credited to the creation of the genre itself which is a misconception of some. The duo themselves prefers not to label the album in a genre and instead see it as fans of music that put whatever they want on it, not unlike a compilation album.
Members Dylan Brady and Laura Les had taken a break from working together on music after the release of their ep 100 Gecs in July of 2016. What brought them back together was an invitation to perform together at the Minecraft Fire Festival in 2019 which they made new music for that would later end up on the album. Yes, an invitation to perform in Minecraft is what led to the birth of this modern masterpiece.
The demos of songs performed at the festival consisted of gecgecgec, gec 2 Ü, 745 Sticky, I need help immediately, xXXi_wud_nvrstøp_ÜXXx, interlude gecgecgec pt 2?, and finally their most popular song off the album, money machine which would later serve as the lead single. They enjoyed working together so much for the event that they continued working together throughout the year creating 1000 Gecs.
The majority of the album was made via email with each producer sending a piece to the other for them to add something and send back. They hardly even spoke to each other about the vision for the song in these emails, which speaks to how well they mesh as producers. Historically, it is very unusual for an album to be made this way.
The album received great critical reception and made year lists by Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, Stereogum, and Paper magazine. It is now considered a staple of the hyper pop genre and was so popular they released a remix album which will be getting its own write up so I won’t go in to details there.
Discussion Questions:
  1. If this album came out today what would the popheads comment section look like?
  2. How did you discover the album? And did you know of the band prior to the release?
  3. What is your favorite song off of the album?
  4. Do you think the album is worthy of the praise it gets in the genre or do you consider it to be overhyped?

2024.06.01 01:18 uuuoooiiiooouuu First farm - Year 10 Perfection Farm (1.6 spoilers)

(Reposting because I messed up adding the photos!) Finally reached a place where I feel like my farm is sharable! The second image is from July 2022 and the first image is today. I stopped playing for a while when all I needed was the Gold Clock but came back to it with 1.6.
I unexpectedly got really into tiger slimes. Every slime hutch and two of the sheds are filled with tiger slimes (though they don't seem to reproduce in the shed very much). I also made a little Junimo themed tiger slime zoo next to the sheds! I considered making it a maze but maybe that's my next little project. I started breeding them in the Cindersnap Forest too.
I have six pets with achievement hats and I put a hat on my alien scarecrow and horse too. The pets have a little park where I used tea saplings as fencing. I also didn't feel complete without a blue and gold chicken. Plus, I FINALLY figured out how to get a duck in the water thanks to a lot of the tips on here :)
Surprisingly, I still only have one auto-petter. They are so elusive... I also haven't planted banana and mango trees here (only on Ginger Island with my Sweet Gem Berry farm) but I think I'll put those in the corners above the bee houses. There are actually lightning rods on my farm but they are hidden behind the obelisks! I also had crab pots on the bottom edge of the lower lake but I removed them to see if the ducks would jump in and they did!
Honestly, I wasn't feeling any of the bachelors but Elliot really grew on me during our marriage. He always says the sweetest romantic things! We have two kids now and I'm very happy with him.
My hair is black but I used the Magic Hair Gel so that's why it looks like that! The outfit is not my original but I got it from Emily at the Desert Festival and I really liked it.
Inside my house is hardly decorated but I did make the attic into a movie room with the six movie posters that Elliot likes. I also made an aquarium room and little library but these are works in progress.
Any feedback on my farm design? Would love ideas for the aquarium and movie rooms too to make them more themed as well! I wish I could take concessions from the movie theater and display them there.
Thanks for letting me share and reading this far! I started a new Forest Farm and I'm really excited for what new ideas come out of it!

2024.05.31 23:03 next3days Local Weekend Lineup of Fun for 1st Weekend in June....

Matt Holloman in Concert Rising Silo Farm Brewery, Blacksburg Friday, May 31, 2024, 6:00 - 9:00 PM Admission: Free Born and raised in southeastern Virginia, Matt Holloman has been playing around Virginia for more than 25 years. Growing up on his older brother’s blues collection, Matt mixed the likes of Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters with the experimental sounds of songwriters like Leonard Cohen and Frank Black, creating a style all his own. Always interested in reinventing his live performance, Matt uses a looper so he can improvise and manipulate layers of sound not usually heard from an acoustic performer. You can also expect simple, but memorable songs, reminiscent of storytelling songwriters like John Prine and Bob Dylan. Link: http://www.nextthreedays.com/FeaturedEventDetails.cfm?E=777075

4. The Grascals in Concert Little River Bluegrass Barn, Radford Friday, May 31, 2024, 7:00 - 10:00 PM General Admission: $30.00, Reserved Tickets: $35.00 Great musicians will always find a way to make good music, but for great musicians to make great music, they must form a bond – one that, more often than not, goes beyond the purely musical to the personal. For The Grascals, that bond has been forged at the intersection of personal friendships, shared professional resumes and an appreciation for the innovative mingling of bluegrass and country music that has been a hallmark of the Nashville scene for more than 40 years. Their cutting-edge modern bluegrass is delivered with a deep knowledge of, and admiration for, the work of the music’s founding fathers. Timely yet timeless, The Grascals make music that is entirely relevant to the here and now yet immersed in traditional values of soul and musicianship. It’s a unique sound that has earned three Grammy® nominations and two Entertainer of the Year awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association, as well as national media attention that seems to perpetually elude acts entrenched in niche genres. Such appearances include The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Fox & Friends, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and CBS’ The Talk. The Grascals have over 200 guest appearances on the Grand Ole Opry to their credit and have also performed on the revered stages of Radio City Music Hall, the Ryman Auditorium and the Kennedy Center as well as music festivals such as MerleFest, Stagecoach, and the CMA Music Festival. In addition to performing across the United States and Canada, the awarding-winning band has traveled the world to take bluegrass music to Japan, Greece, France, Germany, Switzerland, Norway, and Belgium. 2024.05.31 21:52 lotion_or_hose AITAH for not attending my brother’s wedding celebrations?

my brother (27 M) is getting married to his fiancé (26 F) next month. to preface everything, i (25 F) don't have a super close relationship with my brother, we've never gotten in arguments growing up, we've just never been close, we're very opposite people and he's never really shown an interest in having a close connection with me despite my efforts, which hurts, but there is no animosity between us. my parents divorced when i was about 14 years old, and my dad was always very verbally abusive and manipulative to my brother, mother and i growing up, so we moved in with our mom and cut ties with him when we could. my entire dad's side is very similar to him. i remember when i was young, one night my dad was threatening my brother and i so i called his parents (our grandparents) to get them to call him to calm him down (this is after years of them telling us repeatedly they will always be here for us if we ever need anything) and instead they told me that we'll be okay and hung up without concern, and called him to tell him what we said, which escalated the situation. this is when i decided i wouldn't have anything to do with any of them after we moved. my dad is also very wealthy, and if you do what he wants, he'll give you money. he is also a very large narcissist.
a few years ago, my brother reconnected with my dad and his side of the family. my brother is very money oriented , and it was very convenient that once he got engaged, he reached out to my dad, who is now paying for a large chunk of the wedding. my brother's fiancé is just smitten with my dad, and the few times my mom and i have told her about the abuse she just says she can't believe it and brushes it off.
my brother and his fiancé have had quite a few pre-wedding celebrations including a wedding shower, stag and doe, and a bridal shower and i haven't attended any of them due to the fact that my dad, his new wife, and my grandparents have attended all of them and i have no interest in being around them due to the trauma that they have caused me.
i have tried voicing to my brother that they make me extremely uncomfortable and evoke an emotional response from me and he just says "okay" and doesn't want to discuss things further.
i will reluctantly be attending their wedding come july, although i really don't want to out of the fear of seeing that side of the family, but he is my only sibling and i would like to celebrate this milestone in his life. i do love my brother and i think his fiancé is just a sweetheart.
my mom has been attending all of the pre-wedding festivities but i just don't have it in me to join her due to the stress seeing these people causes me, and i have a lot of unhealed wounds. i know his fiancé's side of the family must find it odd that i'm not attending. AITAH for not attending these pre-wedding festivities or does it even matter?

2024.05.31 21:30 vegeta50023 Possible event timeline For July & August

So, based on patterns we've seen in the past regarding Cryptic's push to get seasonal events to line up, this is what I believe will be the timeline moving us into July & August:
PC
Again, this is based on patterns we've seen before. I'm not looking to look past August for right now because I'm not sure what the rest of the year will look like yet, but given that they like keeping the platforms roughly around the same time for seasonal events, this is what I predict we could see.
What do you guys think?
