Hoya sprouting black leaves?
Got a Hoya for the first time - Lacunosa mint coin. The leaves are coming out blacker? (Image shows true color, not an angle issue.) From what I read, it’s not supposed to sun stress… is this some weird Hoya thing?
It’s growing pretty well, four active nodes in the plant. Two new leaves before these were fine and then this happened.
Any insight helpful!

2024.06.02 12:12 JustAnotherFEDev Listing photos to exclude certain angles in my rented home

I've rented a house for many years and the landlord is selling up. He's been decent enough about it, he indicated this about a year ago.
That of course gave me plenty of options and time:
Anyway, I'm buying somewhere else, the process is currently progressing.
I live in one of the highest areas of "material deprivation" in England. In other words, it's a bit rough. As it's rough, it's cheap, so it's enabled me to save a decent bit of money, to buy my own place.
I'm not economically deprived, I have a decent salary, we have nice things in our home, decent quality things.
Anyway, I've always been super conscious of the area, there's a good bit of crime. There's even the neighbourhood scally, down the street, that has been in the big house multiple times, for burgling houses.
I have extremely thin blinds on the windows, they let in tonnes of light, but prevent prying eyes from eyeing my stuff.
I never upload images of my stuff on socials and when we go on holiday, there is absolutely no mention of it, at all, at least until we're back through the front door.
The estate agent wants to take pictures, which is "mostly" fine and I will of course allow this, within what I believe to be reason.
No issue with taking a photo of each room. Just I'm gonna be dictating which angles the photos cannot include.
I WFH, my setup in my home office is high-end tech geek stuff, all purchased by me and also expensive. In that room, absolutely no way am I letting them take a picture from any angle that shows the stuff on my desk. There are 2 other angles that won't show these items.
As is pretty typical with rentals around here, there's no shed. I use the spare downstairs room for out bikes, they're fairly decent ones. Again, choose another angle.
Living room, expensive telly and soundbar, console and a couple of other bits. Again, choose a different angle in this room.
I can hide stuff in bedrooms, etc. I'm not faffing about disconnecting shit or moving shit in the 3 rooms I mentioned. These photos are happening on my lunch break, I don't WFH to be inconvenienced by others, I have a job to do and I also actually like to eat on my lunch.
My objection to some angles is simply I don't want my stuff plastered over socials and Rightmove etc, it's mine, I've hidden it from view for years. The for sale sign that will go up is obviously a decent cue for a neighbourhood scally to pop on Rightmove for a look.
I know I technically don't have to let them in, I'm not intentionally being difficult, so they can take pictures from angles I approve of. I will also allow "some" viewings, as long as they don't take the piss and think that just because I work from home, I can deal with any interruption they throw at me, I can't.
I'm unlikely to change my mind, so just wanna know if I'm being overly unreasonable?

🔗Realistic Bear 3D Archery Target for Affordable Practice

https://preview.redd.it/uxi74xtik44d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7993e6f6b6d178ab152c7af202c31b3a4c6b6d47
As an archery enthusiast, I recently had the opportunity to test out the Shooter 3D Archery Targets - Bear. This 3D target was not only visually impressive with its realistic design, but also proved to be quite durable with its solid body design. While shooting with my recurve bow, I noticed that the target could withstand the impact of my arrows, despite a few passing through slightly.
The target also came with two metal poles for easy setup and ground stakes, which kept it securely in place during my practice sessions. However, one drawback was that the target didn't seem to perform as well with heavier arrows or higher draw weights. For these reasons, I would recommend the Shooter 3D Archery Targets - Bear to those using lighter setups and practicing at close distances.

🔗High-Quality Crossbow Buck Target for Accurate Hunting Practice

https://preview.redd.it/qkanrdnjk44d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cc28becc8f1b694d2648fa6513dcaec5eda7e7d2
I recently got my hands on the Glendel Crossbow Buck Target, and I have to say, I was impressed. The 3D buck design is so lifelike that it feels like I'm practicing on a real deer. With its long-lasting, replaceable vitals insert, I don't have to worry about my shots wearing down the target too quickly. The PolyFusion core not only makes it easier to remove arrows but also extends the life of the target, saving me money in the long run.
On the downside, I did encounter a few issues. The offset shooting zones sometimes obscure the vitals, making it harder to practice those critical shots. And, as mentioned by some reviewers, the target didn't arrive in the best condition, with one even having to put it in the trash due to flimsy construction.
Overall, the Glendel Crossbow Buck Target is a great product for those looking to up their archery game. With its realistic design and durable construction, it's a worthwhile investment for any hunter or archery enthusiast.

🔗AR500-Comparable Steel Deer Target for Shooting Practice

https://preview.redd.it/148y60wjk44d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e65c06aa5e0eb789e1b34e8f729917aba236ec10
As a dedicated hunter, I've been seeking the perfect deer target to improve my shooting skills. The Champion Target Impact Steel Deer Target caught my eye with its life-like deer design and tough, durable construction. The AR500-comparable steel build promised to withstand countless rounds, and the vibrant orange powder-coat made it easy to spot from afar.
Setup and maintenance were a breeze, thanks to the sturdy hanging hole. However, even though it's designed to take a beating, the noise it made was quite jarring.
Nonetheless, if you're looking to sharpen your shooting skills, this target is a reliable and visible choice.

🔗Indoor Archery Practice Life-Size Deer Target

https://preview.redd.it/v7w54ahkk44d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0fae8812617e6e208a428399ccba21cc53eb9898
As I was out in my backyard practicing my archery skills, I stumbled upon the Delta McKenzie Big Daddy Buck Target. It was easy to set up and the vibrant brown color made it stand out in the greenery. The most impressive feature was the universal scoring on one side and vitals on the other, making it ideal for both hunting and tournament preparation.
In my first shot, I was pleasantly surprised by the 100% self-healing foam that allowed me to easily remove the arrows without any damage to the target. However, the first arrow didn't quite hit the mark, and I noticed that the foam wasn't as stable as I would have hoped. I reached out to Delta McKenzie's customer service and they promptly sent a replacement at no additional cost, which resolved the issue.
The Big Daddy Buck Target was truly a lifesaver during my archery competitions, and its durable construction helped me feel confident in my shots. However, the foam wasn't as sturdy as I would have hoped, which is a minor inconvenience that I had to overcome during my practice sessions.
Overall, the Delta McKenzie Big Daddy Buck Target is a fantastic product that provides excellent realism and durability for archery enthusiasts. Its large size and 100% self-healing foam make it a valuable addition to any backyard archery range, but its foam stability could be improved for even better performance.

🔗Foam Deer Target with Locking Antlers

https://preview.redd.it/0wneuxvkk44d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0844a91bc0e125c58bc30a347e250f9cbb41f6c3
As a hunter and target practice enthusiast, I've always been in search of a realistic target that truly resembles my quarry. The Rinehart Woodland Big Jim Insert caught my eye with its lifelike sculpturing and airbrush detailing. Standing at 48 inches tall and 40 inches long, this target feels just right for my living room setup.
One of the aspects I particularly appreciate about this target is the locking antler feature, allowing me to use my own set of antlers if desired. Its solid FX Woodland foam construction ensures durability and resistance against harsh weather, making it a reliable choice for year-round practice.
However, I've also noticed that the Signature Series foam core, which is replaceable, has a tendency to wear out faster than I would have liked. Additionally, the target seems slightly heavier than expected, at 5.14 pounds.
Despite these minor setbacks, the Rinehart Woodland Big Jim Insert provides a realistic and sturdy target for both compound and crossbow shots, and its replaceable core adds a touch of convenience. Overall, it's a worthy investment for any avid hunter or target practice aficionado.

🔗GlenDel Pre-Rut Buck Target Replacement Core for Longlasting Deer Targets

https://preview.redd.it/etsndbalk44d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f64ffc9396c1d77bf39aba05c32f1443c775a73c
I recently had the chance to try the Glendel Pre Rut Buck Target Replacement Core, and I have to say, it was quite the experience. The open layered polyfusion technology definitely made a difference in the target's ability to withstand a multitude of arrows.
One of the most impressive features was the replaceable insert for longer target life. I was able to shoot a variety of deer without any issues, and it was clear that the product was designed with durability in mind. The 4-sided core made it easy to prepare for a variety of shooting angles, ensuring I had plenty of chances to practice.
However, there were a couple of drawbacks to note. The stakes that came with the target were a little too short, so I ended up having to make a quick modification. The product also came with some minor aesthetic defects, but considering it was a target, it wasn't a major concern.
Overall, I was quite pleased with my experience using the Glendel Pre Rut Buck Target Replacement Core. While it had its pros and cons, the positives definitely outweighed the negatives, making it a great choice for any archery enthusiast looking to practice their shooting skills.

🔗Big Buck Target Replacement Insert for 3-D Archery

https://preview.redd.it/d9gmocqlk44d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5794a039a9c59d16aba93476ec9ff09527cf4e0b
As a passionate archery enthusiast, I recently got my hands on the Shooter 72200 Big Buck Replacement Core Insert. This replacement insert is designed to extend the life of my Big Shooter Buck 3D Target, a thrilling and valuable addition to any archery setup.
One of the standout features of this insert is its large size - it's much bigger than the standard 3D target inserts out there. This extra space makes it a breeze to remove arrows with minimal hassle, allowing me to continue practicing and improving my skills without any unnecessary interruptions.
However, there have been a few challenges I encountered with the Shooter 72200. For instance, I sometimes find that the insert is slightly loose, making it difficult to maintain a steady and accurate shooting angle. This loose fit can be frustrating when trying to perfect my shot.
Additionally, while the product is advertised as "Made in the USA, " I couldn't help but feel that the quality could have been better for the price. There have been instances when I've needed to replace parts, and the overall durability of the product could be improved to provide better value for money.
In conclusion, the Shooter 72200 Big Buck Replacement Core Insert is a useful tool for anyone looking to extend the life of their 3D target. Though it does have minor drawbacks, the pros outweigh the cons, making it a worthwhile investment for any target shooter.

🔗EZ-Aim Four Color Whitetail Paper Target for Shooting Practice

https://preview.redd.it/ggz5xg0mk44d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fc221c364304b1212bfc1112dcbb61f7615cd686
I remember the first time I tried out the Ezaim Four Color Whitetail Paper Target. It was a sunny day, and I was in the mood for some target practice with my rifle. When I unfolded the target, I was impressed by the life-like image of the deer, which made it feel more like a real hunt rather than just practice.
The target had multiple bullseyes, offering different points of aim for shooters like me who like to challenge themselves with accurate shooting. I found the target's ability to crumble and flake upon impact to be quite satisfying, as it symbolized the successful hit.
One downside, however, was that the target was quite large and cumbersome to store, especially when folded. I wished there was a more compact storage solution for this great product.
Overall, though, the Ezaim Four Color Whitetail Paper Target was a fantastic addition to my target-shooting routine. It offered versatility, realism, and the satisfaction of seeing my targets disintegrate upon impact. Its only drawback was the inconvenience of storage, but that was a minor issue when compared to the joy it brought to my target practice.

Buyer's Guide

Welcome to the Buyer's Guide for Deer Targets. In this section, we will discuss the essential features, considerations, and general advice for choosing the right deer target. Let's dive into the world of deer hunting and find the perfect target to enhance your sporting experience.

Materials and Durability

https://preview.redd.it/cv2x3gemk44d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=949736899375b40edb68f8cfa5b739e40b581cca
When selecting a deer target, it is essential to consider the materials used in its construction. High-density foam is a popular choice as it provides a realistic texture and absorbs bullets effectively. Other materials, such as rubber, can offer similar benefits. Ensure that the target can withstand multiple uses and withstand the elements, such as exposure to rain, snow, and sunlight.

Target Size and Shape

The size and shape of the deer target play a vital role in its accuracy and usability. Standard deer targets are often 18 inches long and have 5-point targeting systems to help hunters aim accurately. Opt for a target that closely resembles real deer to foster realistic shooting experiences. You may also consider selecting a model featuring three-dimensional features that simulate the actual deer's anatomy and provide extra challenge to your shooting skills.

Ease of Setup and Portability

A deer target's ease of setup and portability are crucial factors to consider, particularly if you plan to transport it frequently. Look for targets that are lightweight and come equipped with quick-tie straps, stakes, or mounts. This will allow you to set up the target quickly, making it easier for you to practice or participate in friendly shooting competitions with fellow hunters.

https://preview.redd.it/l3vzja4nk44d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bc7e01492d6d683c4d51c9187fe08d48dfda2347

Price and Value

When purchasing a deer target, it is essential to weigh the price against the value it provides. Although it is tempting to opt for a lower-cost model, investing in a high-quality target offers long-term benefits in the form of durability, realism, and ease of use. Consider the target's intended use and the desired level of challenge it offers. Balancing these factors can help you select a target that provides the best value for your money.

Additional Features and Accessories

Some deer targets may offer additional features, such as integrated scoring systems or built-in target stands. Accessories, such as replacement parts or practice rounds, can also be valuable considerations. Research the target models you are interested in and ensure they have the features and accessories that suit your needs.

FAQ

What are deer targets?

Deer targets are special targets designed for practicing shooting at deer-sized objects. They usually resemble the shape of a deer and are made of materials that simulate the look and feel of real deer skin or antlers. These targets help hunters improve their accuracy and aim when shooting at live animals.

https://preview.redd.it/dm184exnk44d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21cd8f363be7a4ec6d0ae9543950d8bde3e132ee

What materials are deer targets typically made from?

Deer targets are usually made from materials such as high-density foam, vinyl, or rubber. These materials provide a realistic feel and can withstand repeated shots without being damaged. Some targets also use materials that simulate the look and feel of real deer skin or antlers for added realism.

How many deer targets should I buy for my shooting practice?

The number of deer targets you need depends on the type of practice you plan to do. If you only plan to practice shooting at one angle or distance, one target should suffice. However, if you want to practice from different angles and distances, it's best to buy multiple targets to simulate different deer positions.

What are the benefits of using deer targets for hunting practice?

Using deer targets for hunting practice has several benefits. First, it helps improve your accuracy and aim when shooting at live animals. Second, it allows you to practice in a controlled and safe environment without risking injury to yourself or damage to property. Finally, it helps you become more confident in your shooting abilities, which can improve your overall hunting success.

Are deer targets suitable for all types of hunting?

Deer targets are primarily designed for practicing shooting at deer-sized objects. However, they can also be used for practicing shooting at other types of game, such as elk or moose. The targets may need to be adjusted to simulate the different sizes and shapes of these animals, but they can still be used effectively for hunting practice.

Can I use deer targets for archery practice as well?

Yes, deer targets can be used for archery practice as well. The targets are designed to simulate the shape and size of a deer, which makes them a great choice for practicing shooting with a bow. Just make sure the target is suitable for archery use and that you follow all safety guidelines when using it.

How should I store my deer targets when not in use?

When storing your deer targets, make sure to keep them in a dry and protected area to prevent damage from the elements. You should also store them away from direct sunlight, as this can cause the materials to break down over time. Finally, make sure the targets are stored in a way that prevents them from being damaged by other objects or animals.

What are some safety tips to follow when using deer targets?

When using deer targets, make sure to follow all safety guidelines to prevent injury or damage. This includes wearing proper safety gear, such as gloves and eye protection, and ensuring that the target is securely positioned and properly set up. You should also make sure that the target is the appropriate size and shape for the type of shooting you plan to do, and that it is suitable for use with your firearm or bow.

2024.06.02 11:11 Cumquatinator Finishing of my lens trifecta

So as a one-man band videographer who shoots on an A7iv and FX30 il looking to finish off my lens set. I own the tamron 17 - 28mm f2.8, and tamron 70 - 180mm f2.8. I’m basically looking for some prime lens at either 35mm or 50mm at around £500 mark. I mainly shoot videos such case studies, events, documentaries, music sessions and music videos. I also cross shoot sometimes on the job to make my sequences - so I’ll use my wide angle on the A7iv and the long lens for the fx30 as the apsc sensor gives me extra length.
I’ve been looking to get either the sigma art lens at 35mm or 50mm EF-mount. I do have a metabones speed booster but I’m afraid the autofocus might not be as good as I use my metabones for my sigma 24 - 70mm and the autofocus is existant but really slow and troublesome so it’s easier film in manual focus.
The other lens I’m thinking of getting is the Zeiss 55mm but have read that some of the AF functions can be a little problematic?
I guess my real question is - is it better to stay in tamron ecosystem for my middle range lens for image consistency or will it be okay to use another brand for that mid range lens? Open to any other suggestions for 35mm and 50mm primes. So any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,
Please can anyone advise on how to go about adding ethernet wiring to my house. No mesh, I have a roll of unshielded CAT6, I will need PoE, and maybe some audio cables for future proofing.
Key:
  • Black: brick wall
  • Red: radiator
  • Green: Internet installation point
  • Orange: AV system (wireless sound, projector mounted on opposite wall)
  • Brown: Upstairs hot water tank room, tricky to access

I recently moved into a house built in 1940s (and extended in 1994). Room A and Kitchen has concrete flooring, Hallway and Room B is a suspended timber floor (running up and down base on image). All ground floor has carpet on top. Upstairs is also suspended timber. The loft is fairly inaccessible, it gives access to Room 2, 4, 5, but low roof angle, so hard to reach the edge.
The carpet is worn and I plan to replace in a couple years to downstairs wooden floor, upstairs new carpet. I don't mind to cut the carpet for now. One concern I have, especially for Room A, is hitting radiator pipes, the ground floor radiator pipes go down in to the ground, boiler is in the bottom of the kitchen.
Setting up ground floor is priority, upstairs can be some time in future.
I don't mind to run wires external around the house, but the PoE ones are security cameras, and I think they should not be exposed.
Any input would be appreciated, I currently have my AV system connected by an ethernet wire nailed around walls/ ceiling.

2024.06.02 09:04 Turbulent_Web_8278 Foundation issues?

put the emd down last week on a multi unit and just realized the third floor has a massive slope on the floor however I didn’t measure the angle. The second floor has less of an angle and during inspection the tenant was joking about this.
Then we went to the basement and there is literally a concrete semi wall that is placed on the other side of the sink. It’s almost as though they put this wall so the structure would not sink anymore. Not sure if I am explaining that right?
The owner has 2 multi units which both are mirror image and the other one is literally closing for 45k more than this one but I haven’t gone in there to see if there a slope in the order building. I am afraid I am investing in a building with foundation issues. I am now leaning towards using my inspection contingency to get my money back. Am I in the right? I hold this be right decision?
I read some other sub reddits and looks like people still buy such properties and it still appreciates well over time but would love any guidance. Appreciate it!

🔗Leupold Gold Ring 12-40x60mm HD Folded Light Path Spotting Scope

https://preview.redd.it/2v7w7gigo34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a8887ea0a1ec33298b6844bbcd933867019fbc8
I recently got my hands on the Leupold Gold Ring 12-40x60mm HD Spotting Scope, and I must say it's a game-changer! This little powerhouse boasts an Extra Low Dispersion Optical System, which maximizes color fidelity and contrast. It provides an incredible image across a wide field of view, all with best-in-class eye relief for easy viewing with or without eyeglasses.
One feature that really stood out for me was the Folded Light Path (FLP) system. Instead of using prisms, this system employs mirrors to compress a long optical path into half its length, making the scope incredibly compact and portable.
Another highlight is its magnesium housing. This lightweight material packs a serious punch when it comes to durability, making it ideal for rough outdoor conditions. And don't even get me started on the 100% waterproof and fog proof capabilities - this thing can brave any weather!
However, one issue I encountered was with the focus knob. It's extremely stiff and doesn't change smoothly as you adjust the magnification. It took me quite a few tries to get used to it. Additionally, there's no diopter adjustment, but the good eye relief somewhat compensates for that.
Despite these minor drawbacks, I've been thoroughly impressed by the Leupold Gold Ring HD Spotting Scope. Its top-notch optical performance combined with its rugged construction makes it a strong contender in the realm of spotting scopes. If you're in the market for one, this could be an excellent investment.

🔗TruGlo Crossbow Scope with Unisex Camo Design

https://preview.redd.it/d5ujr01ho34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=99a9af21cfa130e89f2820b2653cde1301f95524
I've recently had the chance to try out the TruGlo 4x32 Rangefinding/Trajectory Compensating Crossbow Scope, a nifty piece of equipment for enthusiastic crossbow users like me. The scope's main highlight was its ability to find the range and calculate the correct trajectory for my crossbow bolts. In my experience, this feature proved to be quite handy in my local archery range, particularly for those days when the wind and temperature were unstable.
One of the things that stood out to me was the scope's robustness. It was designed to handle the harsh conditions of the outdoors, as evidenced by the sturdy aluminum body and the shock-resistant construction. This scope also offered a generous 4-inch eye relief, a feature that helped protect my eyes during those blustery hunting sessions.
The scope's lenses were fully-coated, making them highly resistant to glare, a common concern for crossbow users shooting in low-light conditions. Additionally, the durable leavespring for windage and elevation adjustments were a welcomed bonus, allowing me to finetune my shots with ease.
On the downside, one of the screws on the scope rings was stripped, a minor issue that wasn't a deal-breaker. I also discovered that the scope wasn't rated specifically for a particular crossbow speed. To achieve optimal accuracy, I had to adjust the scope manually, which was a bit tricky and time-consuming.
Regardless of these minor downsides, the TruGlo 4x32 Rangefinding/Trajectory Compensating Crossbow Scope proved to be an essential piece of equipment in my hunting arsenal. Its ease of use, durable construction, and helpful features make it an excellent choice for anyone seeking to upgrade their crossbow hunting experience.

🔗Revolutionary Ravin Xero X1i Integrated Crossbow Scope

https://preview.redd.it/a63avkeho34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6a1427991123efa897ef066624798c6b3f4522f
The Ravin Xero X1i Crossbow Scope by Garmin quickly became my go-to after its impressive features caught my eye. I've always had a bit of trouble getting the distance right when aiming with a crossbow, but with its built-in rangefinding and digital auto-ranging, it made everything so much easier. I loved the 3.5x magnification, which allowed me to spot my target without any hassle.
But the best part was definitely the Target Lock technology, which let me know when the scope was locked on a target with consistent readings. It made every shot feel like a guaranteed bullseye, and I'm really pleased with the accuracy it offered.
However, the scope was a bit heavy, and carrying it around for extended periods was quite tiring. Also, while the digital display was easy to read, the interface could've been a bit more user-friendly for faster adjustments. Overall, the Ravin Xero X1i is an impressive piece of technology that definitely gives me an edge in my hunting game.

🔗Swarovski ATS-65 HD 20-60x65mm Spotting Scope: Lightweight & Comfortable for Outdoor Observations

https://preview.redd.it/w1lnhtqho34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ec13ba12620d74d3a8c2376cbf84364bec4b4722
When I received the Swarovski ATS-65 HD 20-60x65mm Spotting Scope, I was ecstatic to finally have my own to join fellow bird watchers on our adventures. The first thing I noticed about this scope was its user-friendly ergonomic design. It was comfortable to hold and easy to maneuver, even with glasses on.
One feature that stood out was its bright, high contrast view. The SWAROCLEAN non-stick lens coatings did an excellent job of minimizing color aberrations, ensuring the image was clear and vibrant. However, I did find that the scope could be a bit heavy for long observation periods.
When comparing it to other spotting scopes, the ATS-65 HD truly shined in terms of its edge-to-edge sharpness and color fidelity. It was lightweight and comfortable, making it perfect for long days outdoors. Overall, I would highly recommend this spotting scope to anyone looking for a versatile and high-quality tool for their outdoor adventures.

🔗Advanced 15-45x60 FDE T Series Scope with ED Prime Glass and Mil-Hash Reticle

https://preview.redd.it/81jmd3bio34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4eee283aa324bd37f4207abb33fc79035e2800bf
I've been using this Bushnell T spotting scope in my outdoor activities, and it's been quite the experience. The Mil-Hash reticle works seamlessly with the Mil-Base riflescope reticle, making zeroing a breeze. The scope has a heavy-duty, militaristic feel with a rubberized coating. The Picatinny rail mounts are a nice touch, and they're also compatible with a red dot sight for added accuracy.
The optical clarity is what one can expect at this price point, but it does the job well enough. The lens caps make it a breeze to protect the glass from dust, debris, and other environmental conditions. The only issue I had with the front lens cap is the lack of a lanyard attachment, making it easily misplaced.
The case, on the other hand, left me concerned about Bushnell's overall quality. The Velcro stitching on the lens flap failed on the first day, and the scope case seems too small for the scope. The magnification setting ring could use some improvement as well, but overall, it's an acceptable addition.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the scope has proven to be durable and holds up well under rough outdoor conditions. Its compact design and easy-to-handle eyepiece make it a top choice for avid spotters. With a solid construction, good image quality, and an attractive price point, this Bushnell T series spotting scope is worth considering for your next outdoor adventure.

🔗UHD Spotting Scope with Apochromatic Lens System and Advanced Fully Multi-Coated Lenses

https://preview.redd.it/2lgb92nio34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f4dc031a27faacc5b16ca564bee0c54e1e265a1d
In the world of optics, the Athlon Optics Ares G2 UHD 20-60x85 Straight Spotting Scope has made a name for itself. It's not just for the birders spotting variances in plumage from far away or for the precision shooters who aim for targets at 1,000 yards, the scope's extra-low dispersion glass provides vivid clarity and resolution in a full-size spotting scope.
Athlon has cleverly designed it to be lightweight although strong, making it comfortable to carry and use for long periods. The aluminum alloy chassis adds to its strength without making it too heavy. With its twist-up eye-cup, it allows you to set the eyecup to the perfect eye relief for your eyes, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience.
Its ESP Dielectric Coating gives you an advantage in viewing with an image that has little or no chromatic fringe for the clearest and sharpest image. The UHD Glass in the lens helps in converging refracting colors into one focus point, producing greater contrast, sharpness, and color definition.
Reflecting over 99% of the light to your eyes, the scope brings you a clear, bright image and accurate color reproduction, thanks to the BaK4 Prisms coupled with advanced fully multi-coated lenses. It produces perfect brightness and color across the entire light spectrum, making viewing under different lighting conditions a breeze.
And when it comes to durability, the scope doesn't disappoint. It comes with an extra protective layer coating that keeps the exterior of the lens free from dirt and scratches. It's also Argon Purged and Waterproof, ensuring weatherproof performance even in harsh conditions. Purging allows for better waterproofing/fogging, making sure your scope doesn't fog up when you switch environments.
Overall, it's a joy to use this spotting scope. It's not just about viewing in high detail but also the ease it offers in using it. You won't be disappointed with its performance and features.

🔗Zeiss Conquest Gavia 85 Spotting Scope - Angled, 30-60x85, 10.8ft MFD, 15.6in L

https://preview.redd.it/6ki9ix8jo34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=14fa9cebca0d9e023a6b70e7bce8d0960220f745
I recently had the chance to test out the Zeiss Conquest Gavia 85 Spotting Scope, and I must say, it's quite the remarkable piece of equipment. The first thing that stood out to me was its lightweight magnesium alloy housing, which made it easy to pack and carry on my outdoor adventures. I've used several spotting scopes in the past, but this one felt noticeably more comfortable to hold and maneuver.
One of the most impressive features of this scope is its impressive magnification and objective lens, which made distant objects seem as if they were right in front of me. I was particularly impressed with the sharpness and clarity of the image, even in low light conditions. The use of ZEISS' iconic T anti-reflection multi-coatings and LotuTec hydrophobic exterior lens coatings really made a difference when observing wildlife up close.
The eyepiece's 45° angle to the optical tube and adjustable tripod collar allowed for comfortable viewing in various positions, making it a great choice for those who enjoy hunting or birdwatching from different vantage points. I also appreciated the easy manipulation of the focus collar and zoom wheel, which made it simple to make adjustments without taking my eyes off the scope.
One thing that caught my attention was the scope's waterproof and fog-proof design. It was reassuring to know that I could use it in various weather conditions without worrying about damage to the optics. The universal tripod mount was also a great feature, as it allowed me to easily attach the scope to a variety of tripods I already had on hand.
However, there were a couple of drawbacks I noticed during my time with the Zeiss Conquest Gavia 85 Spotting Scope. Firstly, the price point might be a bit steep for some users who are looking for a more budget-friendly option. Additionally, while the scope excelled in most aspects, it did struggle with chromatic aberration, which was noticeable in some images.
Overall, the Zeiss Conquest Gavia 85 Spotting Scope delivered a fantastic, immersive viewing experience. Its high-quality optics, comfortable design, and reliable performance make it a top contender for anyone in the market for a premium spotting scope.

🔗Athlon Argos 20-60x85 HD Straight Angle Spotting Scope: High Quality, Durable, and Waterproof Optical Scope

https://preview.redd.it/uwi54iwjo34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=73e2ee0692eecb5fba353535c2f545ac53e532b2
I've been using the Athlon Argos 20-60x85 HD Straight Angle Spotting Scope for a few weeks now, and I have to admit, it has been a game-changer for my hunting adventures. The quality of the optics is impressive, with the high-grade Argon gas providing excellent fog-proof capabilities and the BaK4 Prisms reflecting more light to my eyes for a sharper, brighter image.
One feature that has particularly stood out to me is the strength and lightweight nature of the composite chassis, which is protected by rubber armor and filled with nitrogen gas for added durability and waterproofing. This spotting scope also comes with a soft case that allows you to mount it on a tripod and use it with the case on, which is a convenient and practical touch.
However, there have been a few minor drawbacks in my experience. Adjusting the eyecup to the perfect eye relief for my eyes can be a bit tricky, and the low thermal conductivity of the Argon gas can sometimes make it a little difficult to get to the optimal focus.
Despite these minor issues, the Athlon Argos 20-60x85 HD Straight Angle Spotting Scope has been an excellent addition to my hunting gear. It offers a great balance of quality and affordability, and I highly recommend it for anyone looking to level up their target sighting and bird watching experiences.

🔗High-Quality Argon Optics Argos HD Spotting Scope with Advanced Multi-Coated Lenses and Durable Rubber Armor

https://preview.redd.it/22d4n39ko34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f069a93f66e276b4caa86ea7f665d5d43b7f9bc8
The Athlon Optics Argos HD 20-60x85 spotting scope captured my attention with its high-grade Argon gas and BaK4 Prisms, which deliver a fog-free experience and impressive image clarity. I was particularly impressed with the advanced fully multi-coated lenses that reflect more light, giving me sharper and brighter images. The composite chassis not only provides strength but is also much lighter than I had anticipated.
One feature that stood out in my experience was the twist-up eye-cup, allowing me to easily adjust the eye relief to suit my own comfort. In addition, the argon purged and waterproof design provided an added layer of protection during my outdoor adventures.
While I was largely satisfied with this spotting scope, I did encounter a couple of downsides. Occasionally, the image seemed slightly blurry when zoomed in at max power, though this was less of an issue overall. Additionally, some users reported difficulties with perfect focus, a challenge I experienced myself but found manageable with some adjustment.
Overall, I believe the Athlon Optics Argos HD spotting scope offers a solid balance of performance and affordability, making it a worthwhile choice for outdoor enthusiasts seeking quality optics without breaking the bank.

🔗Athlon Optics Cronus G2 High-Definition Spotting Scope for Compact Rifles

https://preview.redd.it/116hjjnko34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0e2fbec487e8ed101f6bd0e3604c19224ff5aaf1
As a nature enthusiast, I recently had the chance to try out the Athlon Optics Cronus G2 20-60x86mm UHD Spotting Scope and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Boasting an Apochromatic Lens System and ED glass, I was able to achieve great color definition, clarity, and light transmission even in the trickiest of lighting conditions.
Even in the most challenging settings, such as dimly lit forests or shadowed treelines, the Cronus G2's enhanced contrast allowed me to easily separate my subject from its surroundings. Its versatile magnification ranges from 20x to 60x, offering unparalleled flexibility when scouting for game.
However, I did notice that the scope might be a bit bulky for some beginners, as it weighs around 40 oz. However, its overall performance and the smoothness of its single focus wheel make up for that setback.
In conclusion, the Athlon Optics Cronus G2 20-60x86mm UHD Spotting Scope is a fantastic investment for anyone looking for premium optics at an affordable price. I highly recommend it for hunters, birdwatchers, and nature lovers who desire exceptional clarity and image quality.

As an avid birdwatcher, I've been using the Vortex Razor HD 13-39x56 Spotting Scope for a while now, and it's been nothing short of remarkable. The compact design makes it super convenient to carry around, and I love how lightweight it feels. The clarity and sharpness of the image are outstanding, making it so easy to spot even the tiniest details on my feathered friends.
The adjustable magnification is another feature I've grown fond of. It's so effortless to switch between different magnification levels, giving me that extra edge when I need to zoom in on a specific bird. I also appreciate the ergonomic shape of the eyepiece, making it comfortable to use for extended periods.
However, the one downside I've noticed is the slight difficulty in focusing. Sometimes, it takes a bit of finesse to get the image looking razor-sharp, but once you've got it sorted, it's smooth sailing from there.
Overall, the Vortex Razor HD 13-39x56 Spotting Scope has been an absolute game-changer for me. Its superb optics, convenience, and ease of use have made it a go-to tool for all my birdwatching adventures, and I can't imagine going back to using anything else.

The Athlon Talos Spotting Scope has been a game-changer for my hunting trips. With its fully multi-coated lenses, the scope has breathed life into the game, allowing me to see the smallest details on my targets. It has a solid build with a waterproof and fog-proof body, perfect for the unpredictable weather conditions of nature.
One of the first things that caught my attention was its adjustable rotating ring, which allowed me to position the scope in the most comfortable angle for observation. This gave me a sense of control and comfort while I was out in the wild.
However, one aspect that could have been improved was the tripod, which felt a bit flimsy. But thankfully, I was able to replace it with a more robust one as per my preference.
Despite its minor drawbacks, the Athlon Talos Spotting Scope has been a reliable companion on my hunting expeditions. It has provided me with clear, bright images, allowing me to make accurate shots and successfully bag my targets. One of the standout features I've experienced is the incredibly smooth and powerful zoom, which has allowed me to truly get up close and personal with the wonders of the world.
However, I have to admit that there have been a few instances where I wished the scope had some additional attachments, like lens caps, to prevent losing them – although I'm a fan of the multicoated lens, which provides a stunningly clear and bright image even on the darkest of nights.
Overall, the Nikon ProStaff 5 has been an excellent addition to my toolkit for both leisurely nature walks and serious outdoor pursuits. Its exceptional quality and durability have not only boosted my appreciation for the great outdoors, but have also instilled a newfound sense of adventure within me.

Buyer's Guide

When it comes to choosing the right ACOG scope, there are several factors you should consider. In this buyer's guide, we'll discuss the general features, considerations, and advice to help you make an informed decision.

Why choose ACOG scopes?

ACOG scopes are known for their durability, reliability, and exceptional optical clarity. These high-quality tactical scopes are perfect for hunting, law enforcement, military operations, and serious shooting enthusiasts. They offer a wide range of magnification options, adjustable turret settings, and a variety of reticle styles to suit different shooting scenarios.

https://preview.redd.it/rtfkqq9oo34d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5914d0818982dc4a4a6723345a3d6de4bc7fc1dc

Magnification

Magnification is a crucial factor when selecting an ACOG scope. These scopes typically offer varying magnification options, from 2x to 12x or even higher. Consider the type of shooting you'll be doing and the distance at which you'll be engaging targets. If you plan to take long-range shots or compete in precision shooting events, you may want to opt for a higher magnification range. On the other hand, if you're primarily focused on close-range shooting or engaging targets at short distances, a lower magnification range may be more suitable.

Reticle style

ACOG scopes offer a variety of reticle styles to suit different shooting needs. Some common reticle styles include the T2 MOA, T1 MOA, T3 MOA, and the SCR (Sniper Combat Rifle) reticle. Each reticle has its unique features and benefits. For example, the T1 is popular among long-range precision shooters due to its accurate and fine crosshairs, while the T2 has a more dense post that provides accurate ranging and holdover values. It's essential to choose a reticle that aligns with your shooting skills and preferred shooting style.

Brightness and light transmission

Another important factor to consider is the brightness and light transmission capabilities of the ACOG scope. High-quality scopes often feature multi-coated lenses that enhance light transmission and improve overall image brightness. This is particularly important when shooting in low-light conditions or during twilight hours. To ensure maximum visibility, consider a scope with an adjustable brightness setting that allows you to fine-tune the reticle illumination to your preference.

Construction and durability

ACOG scopes are known for their high durability and rugged construction, making them ideal for harsh outdoor environments. They are typically built with aircraft-grade aluminum and feature waterproof, shockproof, and fog-resistant design to ensure long-lasting performance.

Mount type

When selecting your ACOG scope, consider the type of mount you'll need. Some popular mount options include the ACOG quick detach, ACOG low mount, and ACOG high mount. The choice of mount will depend on the specific firearm and shooting scenario. Most ACOG scopes come with mounting hardware, but it's essential to ensure compatibility before purchasing.

Maintenance and care

To ensure the longevity of your ACOG scope, it's crucial to follow proper maintenance and care guidelines. Regularly clean your scope with a high-quality optic cleaning solution, and store it in a secure case to protect it from dirt, dust, and potential damage. Additionally, avoid exposing your scope to extreme temperatures, as this can affect its performance and longevity.
By considering these key factors, you'll be well-equipped to select the perfect ACOG scope for your specific needs and shooting requirements. Happy hunting!

2024.06.02 08:06 GOONSKWAAAD Antis don't hate AI image generation actually, but they are fighting the wrong enemy.

I genuinely think image generation on itself isn't bad other than people being a bum themselves with it, which let's be real has already been happening without the introduction of AI.
Job losses? Forced to do soul-crushing labour like making SpongeBob plushies in a Chinese factory? That's not even the generator tool's fault. If anything that shows the corruption of corporations and companies.
Content oversaturation? Slop? Have you looked at most short form content creation? They're made "humanly" without any AI intervention. Antis and pro-AIs can agree are all mindless content.
The value of conventional art going down because of it being impossible to differentiate from AI-generation? Who cares! There's plenty of digital artists trying to mimick traditional pieces! However, you shouldn't lie either way though (especially in commissions). Whether or not you made something with AI, you should be upfront about it. Scamming and lying is a different topic by itself, is completely unrelated to AI.
Generating misinformation to defame people? Making nasty stuff of people? You don't even need AI to do that. That's a crime by itself already.
Nearly all arguments against image generation fears the gun and not the shooter. While I'm aware since AI's introduction, some flaws are more noticeable today; I wish antis would see more about the bigger picture.

2024.06.02 07:30 alexandrepigeot I want to understand Rokinon Full Frame Cine Lenses with Micro Four Third mounts

TLDR; It makes no sense to have a full frame lens on a M43 camera and my experience with one has been horrible. Please contribute your opinions on this.
So, for the story, I was a REAL video noob back when the Blackmagic Pocket CC 4K came out. But it looked so good on paper, I pre-ordered it as my first production camera when I opened my studio in 2018 (received it in 2019). As a BMPCC4K user, I struggled a lot because of lack of autofocus for the kind of work I'm doing but I've since learned to love this amazing camera and I'm still planning on using it moving forward.
When I made the purchase, I asked the supplier to kit me out with some cine lenses. Being the noob that I was, I didn't even flinch when he proposed cine lenses that didn't come from the same set, defeating the purpose of buying assorted cine lenses (so they don't look the same in color grading and they need additional work to swap lenses on a rig)
I didn't have the budget for a fourth lens back then so when I realized I was absolutely going to need a 25mm I got myself a cheap f2.8 Meike, which ended up becoming my workhorse for 4 years. It's clean and so sharp, and I agree it doesn't have a lot of flavors but that's what you need for commercial work anyways.
Throughout this period, I've experimented a LOT with the Rokinons at first because I was trying to rationalize my purchase and eventually it perplexed me that the lens didn't make any sense in their DESIGN.
So, in my experience, anything below T2.8 is absolutely unusable (which resolves to 5.6 on MFT and a cheap kit zoom lens would be giving me the same aperture. When I say "unusable" I don't mean that there's criticism on the specific characteristics of the lens, I mean that there's a weird blur that appears on the whole image. It becomes crazy soft in a way that is obviously not meant to be. The 35mm and the 135mm both do that. The 12mm less so, but it makes sense with what I'm going to say next.
My theory is that, because they are full frame lenses, there is a massive amount of light that's bouncing around the housing and reflecting into the sensor. The 35 and the 135 are full frame and the 12 is an APS-C frame.
I understand how this was designed though. The Full Frame lens cine lens was designed with the full frame sensors in mind AND THEN they thought about making a M43 option, and they simply swapped the lens mount and kept everything the same.
It makes no sense though. The M43 camera mount cannot possibly house a full frame sensor, this is not a possibility even in the future (if I'm not mistaken?). So the softness issues I'm having were always unavoidable.
Now either they knew this was a bad idea, and then the lens is just a plain deception on their part, or they didn't and they have no idea that the MFT variant of their lens is having this issue.
I confess I have not contacted Rokinon for comments on this. I came here first to educate myself if I'm wrong or maybe get a better context if some of you can enlighten me.

2024.06.02 07:05 casterazucar I wrote and illustrated a 32 page kids book on then Remarkable 2, here's what I thought

So, I've got two young boys, and one of them is super into space, so I used my Remarkable 2 (primarily used for adult fiction planning and recipe creation) to write a picture book. Here are the pros and cons I ran into over the two months it took:
Kit used: Remarkable 2 (refurbished, £279) Marker Pro Type Folio (Purchased about a month ago)
PROS: - Marker is quite precise- precised enough to illustrate the broad strokes of a kids book, at least. I really liked the ability to used it at an angle to get different inputs
CONS: Some interesting things I ran into here that may shed some light on the device's limitations:
Methods I picked up: - you only get four layers. I go with a draw merge technique to get things done
-use draft pages to draw components of an image, then assemble on the page you want to use
Conclusions:
For a tablet that is quite a few years old now, the level of support on this thing is FANTASTIC. While it is nowhere near perfect, the changes in productivity I've experienced are significant.
I hope they fix some of the export issues, those are pretty difficult to work around, but most of the others I've been able to figure out.
Any questions? Ask away!

2024.06.02 05:20 arvarnargul Chuck 01x04 teleplay review

FAIR WARNING THIS WILL BE A WALL OF TEXT
Intro: In a series of reviews that will begin (or return) here; we are going to try and take a critical look at the Chuck series, especially the unfolding of the story as scene through the teleplay. In this case we are assuming multiple things about a potential watcher:
What is this all for: This started as a project to improve my critical reviewing skills for a hobby of movie script writing and analysis. Chuck happens to have published 3 original scripts and all the text of every episode has been published to a searchable database. This affords an opportunity to break from my movie writing woes and infinite revisions to just have fun enjoying Chuck and trying to deepen my understanding of the intersection of script writing with filmography and visual editing. Having said this, it should be known I have no affiliation to the show, no additional insider knowledge, and I do not write scripts for a living. So, consequently, feel free to ignore everything I say :). I do hope, however, we can go on this journey together and appreciate the excellence that is a love story called Chuck.
So, don't freak out, and lets get started.

Chuck 01x04 (Chuck vs the Wookiee): TEASER - We open with the gang playing "Know Ya!", which isn't actually a real board game, but based on the game Paddles. It's amazing that Morgan can't stand Ellie/Awesome being in love/winning, but marches triumphantly whenever he gets a question correct. I also like we see, in frame, Chuck watching Sarah pick off olives; he's beginning to notice things just like a real spy. The deep sadness and yet storied confliction on Chuck's face when he discovers Peaches 1 and Peaches 2 was great.
For those who don't know about dogs:
I find it very interesting how Sarah has "spidey sense" about potentially being watched. At no point previously did either Sarah nor Casey display this trait and I'm not totally sure how an open window was enough to do this; I wonder if Sarah's comfort being around Chuck's family is causing her to develop a "feeling of being watched" as she is comfortable with the Bartowski's? For those who missed it, Sarah talks about having a sister I think at the time this was just a throw-away line to protect her cover, but in season 5 Sarah does actually have a little sister if you count the little girl she rescues One last thing about Sarah here, when Bryce is being discussed, I really like how it was played where she acts quiet and shocked, but not saying anything. The facial expressions of Yvonne here are really special and you can tell Sarah lives a life of secrets. This is carried outside when Chuck asks Sarah about her relationship with Bryce. She is totally looking down and to the right, a classic indication of an emotional response searching for rationalization (ie. she is clearly lying)
As they end the game and exit to the courtyard, there teleplay of Chuck does something I've been wanting to see forever; they switch perspective to keep both characters in camera and follow them around from a 3rd perspective. We know this is supposed to indicate they are being watched, but I really enjoy getting to see them together reacting and talking instead of the constant close-ups and cuts. Normally Chuck will be shot with something between a medium close up (MCU) and Medium Shot (MS) to emphasize their characters and highlight their faces and expressions. This works really well because Chuck's cameras are typically either shoulder level or hip level based on the operators moving through their space. In many more modern TV shows, the technology of boom cranes and gyroscopic gimbals allows for content to be show from ground level to overhead giving directors the opportunity to tell their story through a variety of shifting profiles. If Chuck were shot today, we would see everything from full body shots all the way to extreme closeups without the need for continual jump-cuts and re-shoots because the technology is there. At least for this episode, it's nice to see the director explore more hip/knee level motion and more cowboy framed shots when having a distant observer perspective. https://www.studiobinder.com/blog/types-of-camera-shots-sizes-in-film/ does a fantastic breakdown of all the different shot type and camera perspectives for you want to read more!
As we transition into Sarah's hotel room, did anyone pick up on how NICE this is? She has double sinks, a king bed, a sitting mirror, free standing tub, and a great view. I doubt any agency in the "real world" would ever spring for something like this for multiple years for one of their agents, it's fancy! Enter Carina, tell me, who saw Sarah fight with a soap sock and think of iCarly and the famous "butter sock". Also during this fight, why is Sarah wearing a golden bikini? I know she is about to get into the shower, but what plausible reason is there for her to a) wear a bikini at all and b) it to be a bright golden yellow?? If you slow this fight scene way down, you will notice Yvonne's strikes actually come close to hitting Mimi as she has had a lot of training, whereas Mimi's strikes are miles from Yvonne and she just over-acts their impact. The most noticeable is the kick into her table, Sarah goes flying back, but we can tell from the angle, Carina missed her by a good 2 ft. This was just some sloppy editing and not getting the camera into position. I give it a pass because you have probably 3 camera operators wearing stabilized camera rigs trying to rotate around a room with 2 girls fighting and they just missed the angle by like 2 feet. I did really like at the end of the fight Carina had the option to go for the gun but instead went for the fish. If you didn't know they were not enemies before, this should have been a big clue! Carina calls Sarah's life in LA boring #1

ACT I

Carina aka: Maria Elena Argalberdi was born Jun 16, 1978 in Alberdi Argentina with a Buenos Aires passport. Maria Elena is actually the name of a famous song in Mexico and eventually had a movie. This Chuck learns on Flash #1 and is the precursor to meeting the general for the first time. I know I've mentioned this before, but to reiterate; the pictures in Casey's apartment are all wrong; he has photos of Chuck and Morgan that don't happen until season 5 (lost footage) he has a map of Echo Park and Malibu already on display, and he has tactical information for each member of the Buy More (which he has no reason for at this time). It is interesting they talk about an opium cartel in Afghanistan as Afghanistan is known for it's huge poppy fields for heroin drug money.
The NADAN-I-NOOR diamond:
We open back to see Carina and Sarah looking at classified files within the restaurant. THIS IS AGAINST THE LAW, you do not look at classified files out in the open and especially not where there are clearly other customers around. Venturing into the BuyMore, there is a monster truck rally on the TV's showing grave digger and reaper, two famous trucks from this time period. Morgan wants to spread his wings and be the fourth wheel to the perpetual 3 wheel party and Sarah, ever the schemer, literally glows when she thinks of the plan to have Carina go on a date with Morgan. I THINK this was just to help maintain their cover, but also maybe Sarah is just needling Carina? If you look in the back of the store when Chuck is talking to Sarah and Carina, there is a really cool Nerd Herd poster that says "Bringing peace to your computer emergency". "if a yawn could yawn" is Carina calling Sarah's job boring #2. One thing I really like with the double data is the way the camera jumps between the couples: boy/girl, boy/boy, girl/girl. I think they way they try and keep private conversations via screen time is a really nice, typical, teleplay trick that really works well here. In a "real" environment, everyone could hear everything, but by splitting the camera focus or playing with perspective, the viewer clearly knows "this is a conversation between girls the boys don't hear it". We see Chuck noticing Sarah picking off olives #2 while they watch a movie about penguins: who mate for life, present their love in the form of rocks, and are pack animals. In Chuck's bedroom as he talks to Morgan, Chuck has a box of King Edward Invincible underneath bongos; for those who don't know this is a famous box for mild tobacco cigars. So I wonder what Chuck is up to in his free time :P.
On the Nerd Herd call with Carina, she opens a bottle of wine with a butter knife. This is actually a pretty famous thing that is done all over the world with everything from a key to a saber. In fact they make a specially type of knife with an extra wide blade for this it Italy. I do want to ask the question; is Carina dressed in red lingerie (Chuck's favorite color she stole from Sarah) really necessary for this scene? I know that Carina is all about improvising and she often uses her sexuality to progress her cause (Casey), but I think we could have gotten away with just the top. I can certainly see the rationalization for going this far, but I think as an artistic choice it wasn't necessary. What IS necessary however is to talk about how Chuck's world implodes when Carina tells him about Sarah and Bryce. Also the perfect act transition ending right at Chuck's jaw dropping and the work boyfriend!

ACT II

I'll say it again, the back an forth with Chuck and Sarah should have been a medium close up, shoulder level straight on shot instead of the constant cuts. Seeing their reaction in real time would have been easier and it would have allowed the Weinerlicious to be maybe 15 ft smaller to not need so many cameramen rotating. "Unless talking to your boyfriend is a matter of national security, the ketchup bottles won't refill themselves". Why yes it IS a mater of national security for Sarah to talk to Chuck... also if any one of us stood up to our boss like Sarah did, I'm pretty sure we'd be fired on the spot!
Malibu is ~2hours for Echo Park with standard LA traffic. Seriously, how do girls in high heels walk down stairs; we see Carina and Sarah walking sideways so there is enough space on each step to fit their shoes. Girls, how do you do that and not fall especially with narrow staircases and 3-6inch heels! Inside the room with the stone there is a bust of Cesare, archenemies, da vinci, and biblical David. There is also some famous paintings the best of which is Vemieer's "young girl with a pearl earring" which is rather appropriate considering it's meaning. There is also a Van Gogh of man in a wheat field and a Monet in one shot too. If ANY of these paintings were real instead of reproductions, they would be worth millions, in fact the young girl with a pearl is estimated at 40million, which is 1.5x the sell value of the Nadan-I-Noor! If we take a look at the engineering drawing of Flash #2 on the pedestal, we would see this design creates a closed circuit around the tongs the diamond rests on; which might explain it's red hue. If a person were to touch the diamond, it would close the circuit on their body allowing the 4000volts to travel through their heart. A person can die with ~20volts, though it's usually more like 50 in most occurrences. 4000volts is enough to kill a herd of elephants and completely overkill for a person. Also the amount of power that would take is more than the city of Malibu... this is to say the trap is real, the numbers are complete nonsense; thinking lightning! Nice shot by Sarah with the plate (there are some great bloopers on this too where she misses badly)! A remote controlled jet ski... i'm not even going to calculate the nonsense for this; it's just total nonsense. Almost as much nonsense as Casey using his phone to track Carina's call. That would take minutes, even with today's technology to back trace like that and way more power than just pushing a button on a razer flip-phone from the 90's!
back at the house, Chuck i playing halo with the legendary skulls as his weapon; this is nice because in the BuyMore at the end of the episode there are dudes dressed as master chief! I really like the changing perspective here with Chuck and Morgan. Chuck's reactions remain in focus while Morgan tells a story behind him, then it switches as Chuck starts to move around until bringing both into focus for the final line "we still have each other and that's really sad". The side cut to Sarah picking locks to the hotel door is classic early 2000's TV and i'm all for it, even if it is super cheezy. BTW as someone who used to lock pick in college, that's .... not how that works, but good try. We get our Flash #3 on the diamond in Morgan's back nuclear explosions. I wonder if the refractive capability of a diamond this pure is enough to focus laser to induce fission or if the value of selling the diamond is enough to buy nuclear material on the black market? Either way, we end the act with... the man with the golden gun!

ACT III

Chuck uses Sarah's plate move against Carina, nice inter-episode call back; he's clearly watching/learning, but his aim is terrible. This was actually clever as Sarah has perfect aim for she is a professional, while Chuck is still definitely a civilian and has no aptitude for fighting. I really like both these types of simple call backs but also how seemingly throw-away lines/actions help tell the broad story of the show. Chuck talking to Carina also shows Chuck has this weird, innate aptitude to get people to re-evaluate themselves and grow internally. You can watch Carina "grow in real-time. When we get to the hotel and Carina opens her trunk first there are a few glocks, a couple rugers, and a 1911; then she switches to blades and we see some folders, some strait blades, an illegal gravity blade (still illegal today), and a kbar... nice selection! Carina, always the flirt, gives Chuck some very insightful works about the nature of being a spy, but also maybe some way to get through to Sarah.
Inside the hotel we see Carina and Sarah speaking; Carina is speaking Swedish, while Sarah replies in Polish. "Om jag slänger nycklarna till dig, kommer du tappa dem då?" which is Swedish for "If I throw you the keys, will you drop them?" Sarah answered in Polish: "Tylko jak rzucisz jak twoja mamusia", which means "Only if you throw it like your mommy". This is just great!
I want to talk about how fast Chuck managed to find an address for DC, print a label, open a box, put the label on, and get the diamond there all before the door gets broken. Somehow on screen time this is like 10seconds, but in real life this would have to be like 3minutes minimum? Either that door is remarkably strong or... TV magic??

ACT IV

Even with all the flirting, as we say goodbye to Carina >! for now !< she is still joking with Casey and every the professional. I like how they show when it's "game time" it's all about the job, but spys can be people too! Carina still calls Sarah's life boring #3 (the common trifecta of episode repeats).
Sarah's face when Chuck brings the pizza with no olives is the reason I think Yvonne makes the perfect Sarah. She exudes the hidden beauty needed and has the acting to so such emotion for Chuck being sweet. The whole scene with Chuck and Sarah asking questions, then Chuck backing off, then Sarah acting stoic like she WANTS to open up but doesn't know if she can really trust Chuck, is ready to move on from Bryce, and should for the nature of her job. This was probably the most well acted 20seconds of the entire episode. Finally, we hear Sarah's middle name is Lisa. Now we never officially know if Chuck hears this or not both due to camera focus and distance, it's never officially confirmed in the entire show. When the intersect is updated in season 4 we see Sarah's picture and it lists Lisa as a middle name, so we assume it's official, but it's never confirmed at any point. Finally, I really like how they end the episode with Sarah closing her eyes as the fade to black.

Few notes: There are 5 official songs in this episode:

I think this was a great episode and really showcased what they can do when additional cast members join the team and when they are not afraid to play with perspective. Mimi as Carina is a great addition to the ensemble and I wish we saw her more, but every time she drops in, it's always a wild episode and it's fantastic. Watching Chuck learn about Sarah and seeing Sarah start to open up is a good way forward and heck Casey had some of the best humor in the episode. Overall, it was fast paced, had some nice character development, as funny in the best way, and moved the main theme along, 8/10.

I recently purchased three different micro red dot (T1/T2 pattern) mounts for my Harrington & Richardson (H&R) carry handle upper, and thought I should put my findings into a quick review. The optic I’m using is an older Primary Arms Micro Red Dot (MD-ADS).
——-Roushe Manufacturing - $79.95——-
-Pros-
Aesthetically pleasing thumb screw, which also requires no tools to tighten or remove.
Allows recessed fitment for original Primary arms torx button head screws that came with optic.
Fits the Aimpoint T1/T2 footprint well and has a recoil lug.
-Cons-
Fitment is unacceptable. The mount wobbles in channel of the carry handle and, when tightened, leans hard to the right. I’ve included and extra top-down image to illustrate how badly it leans. It does not seat correctly because it doesn’t match the angled flats inside the channel of the carry handle of the H&R upper. It may fit other uppers, but I think the H&R upper is pretty standard, so I kindof doubt it.
Does not come with any hardware, probably to keep costs down. This one is not really a big deal, but it’s not like this mount is cheap either.
No shoulder on the thumb screw, allowing excessive play in the carry mounting hole. Due to this, I fully expect that this mount would move under recoil and would likely loosen faster over time than if it correctly fit the mounting hole.
Anodized finish is very shiny. Stands out and does not match other coatings on the rifle. Feels and looks the cheapest of the bunch.
——-Battlesteel (Botach ) - $39.98——-
-Pros-
Fits well. Matches angles in H&R upper. No wobble or movement.
Most affordable of the bunch at $40.
Fits the Aimpoint T1/T2 footprint well and has a recoil lug.
Flat black hard coat anodized. Matches other hardcoat anodizing on the rifle.
-Cons-
Ugly mounting hardware. The Thumb screw is not bad, but the silver concave washer with foam cushioning and the tooth lock washer both kindof ruin it for me. You may be able to get away with removing the washers and run the thumb screw by itself, but that may cause issues with loosening over time.
Does not fit OEM PA button head torx screws due to narrow recesses. Must use ugly silver hex cap screws that are a touch too long. They’re about bout 1/32” longer than the OEM screws, however did not notice any fitment issues, so maybe the mount is thicker.
No shoulder on the mounting screw, allowing forward and backward play in the carry mounting hole. The mount may move slightly forward or backward under recoil and may loosen the mount over time, like the Roushe mount, however this has the concave foam-cushioned washer, which may help with this.
——- AMRU Designs -$100 ——-
-Pros-
Fits very well. Matches angles in the H&R upper, and has tight tolerances, so it fits snuggly in the channel of the carry handle.
The 5/16 head mounting bolt has a shoulder which fits well in the mounting hole of the carry handle. This should mitigate the effects of recoil in moving the mount forward or backward and should also assist in returning to zero, should I need to remove the mount from the upper. Neither of the other mounts have this feature.
Fits the Aimpoint T1/T2 footprint well and has a recoil lug.
Flat black hard coat anodized. Matches other hardcoat anodizing on the rifle.
Most aesthetically pleasing of the bunch, overall.
-Cons-
Most expensive at $100.
Tightening or removing requires tools. I would prefer that this came with a thumb screw of some sort, but I also understand why they went with a hex head bolt for reliability, so this may not really be a con.
Does not come with the nice, fitted washer as displayed on the website. Simply comes with standard washer. Maybe this was a compatibility issue, and didn’t fit all carry handles? Either way, they should update the website to accurately represent the product.
——-Final Thoughts——-
While your mileage may vary with other carry handle uppers, I found the Amru Designs mount to be the best of the three, albeit a bit overpriced. The BattleSteel mount comes in second as a very affordable, quality option. The Roushe mount is quite frankly a terrible disappointment. I could not recommend anyone purchase one of these mounts. The fitment alone is atrocious. I reached out to Roushe via email twice. I have not received any response from them, and it’s been two weeks. I will update if I hear from them.

2024.06.02 03:22 jacksalssome [Guide] Replacing your Ender 5 Plus stock board with the BTT Mini E3 V3, while keeping the original touchscreen and BL Touch

This god damn upgrade was so friggen frustrating, any only 60% of that was self sabotage. I'v spent literally 20 hours on this.
Why do this?
I wanted to take advantage of a few features that a 32bit board provides, but also didn’t want to drop a load of money on a board and screen, I also like Marlin. And has a driver for each Z stepper.
You might also want to look at the Fly-E3-Pro-v3 and the Mellow FLY 4.3, which should be a drop in replacement for the stock screen. If i knew about it a probably would have tried it out instead
Needed parts:
Highly Suggested parts:
At least 4 dupoint to dupoint wire connectors, female ends.
Suggested parts:
Flashing new firmware to the touchscreen
First were going to flash the touchscreen with firmware that will work with the Mini E3, we’ll be using InsanityAutomation’s amazing fork of Marlin, at this time the (2.0bleeding branch doesn’t compile)
Download “latest release” from “https://github.com/Desuuuu/DGUS-reloaded/wiki/Flashing-the-firmware”
1) Extract File the file 2) Insert micro SD card 3) Format it as FAT32 with 4k blocks 4) Copy DWIN_SET into the freshly formatted mSD card 5) Power off your printer 6) Insert the mSD card into the screen of the printer.
7) Power the printer on 8) Wait about 30 seconds as the screen flashes, when it cycles through the pictures and says END!, then its done. 9) Power off the 3D Printer & Eject the mSD card. 10) Power it on to ensure the correct screen firmware flashed, it wont work for now.
Rewiring the touchscreen
Now you can swap out the boards and plug in all connectors, except the touchscreen and bl touch.
We will use the TFT pins on the Mini E3, NOT the EXP connector. Here is a pinout, TFT is at the bottom, actual pins are near the middle of the board: https://docs.vorondesign.com/build/electrical/images/miniE3-v30-pinout.png
Touchscreen to BTT Mini E3 V3
GND to GND TX2 to RX2 RX2 to TX2 5V to +5V
RX NEEDS TO GO TO TX, transmission needs to be received, hence RX,TX.
To connect to the BTT board you have a few options:
  • Use 4 female to female Dupont connectors
  • Create a new cable with a JST XH 6x1 connector on the touchscreen side and a 5x1 Dupont (or 4 individual connectors), so you don't have extra wires.
  • Cut off the connector on the touchscreen size and crimp a 5x1 Dupont connector or use 4 individual Dupont connectors.
Rewiring the BL Touch
Time to Configure Firmware:
Show the Bootscreen:
#define SHOW_BOOTSCREEN #ifndef MOTHERBOARD #define MOTHERBOARD BOARD_BTT_SKR_MINI_E3_V3_0 #endif #define SERIAL_PORT -1 #define BAUDRATE 115200 #define CUSTOM_MACHINE_NAME "Ender-5 Plus" #define X_DRIVER_TYPE TMC2209 #define Y_DRIVER_TYPE TMC2209 #define Z_DRIVER_TYPE TMC2209 #define E0_DRIVER_TYPE TMC2209
You need to put the number of your temp sensor instead of #, the stock ones are 1 and 1
#define TEMP_SENSOR_0 # #define TEMP_SENSOR_BED #
Set max Temp, 260 if its stock, 280-315 if all metal hotend
#define HEATER_0_MAXTEMP ### #define BED_MAXTEMP ### #define PIDTEMPBED #define USE_ZMIN_PLUG #define USE_XMAX_PLUG #define USE_YMAX_PLUG

Comment out, unless your probes black and white wires are connected to the Z_min pins on the board. Uncomment USE_PROBE_FOR_Z_HOMING to use the pins in the 5 pin probe connector.
//#define Z_MIN_PROBE_USES_Z_MIN_ENDSTOP_PIN #define USE_PROBE_FOR_Z_HOMING #define BLTOUCH

We have onboard EEPROM, I enable EEPROM_INIT_NOW so I don't have problems with previously set offsets, this clear the Eeprom every time you flash the machine.
#define EEPROM_SETTINGS // Persistent storage with M500 and M501 //#define DISABLE_M503 // Saves ~2700 bytes of flash. Disable for release! #define EEPROM_CHITCHAT // Give feedback on EEPROM commands. 2024.06.02 01:55 doc_willis Finally got my 8bitdo C64 'design' keyboard. Seems fairly good. Anyone want me to test anything on it?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CYSQWYZP $109.99
Edit: Critical 'flaw' - Plugged the thing into my "The C64" and it would not work with it, wired, or via the 2.4 GHz Dongle. Other cheap USB Keyboards Did work with my 'The C64' - So - I am not sure if the issue is with the Keyboard, or something odd with The C64 design. But - I did not really plan on using it with that thing. :) but still, its disappointing. I tried 2 of the 8bitdo keyboards. Will try them on some other SBC systems over the weekend. (C64 Mini, Amiga Mini, and that Atari400 Mini will get tested)
Numerous other reviews and comments online about the companies Keyboard lineup, so i will focus on their C64 style design.
Things I noticed..
The keycaps are very dished compared to my other keyboards. I do not have a real C64 any longer. :( So i can only compare them with my "The C64" keyboard. They seem very close to the same profile. The colors are a bit darker than "The C64 keyboard" and the lettering on the keys are MUCH easier to read. Easier to read than on my other 8bitdo keyboard. They are also not as shiny glossy, they are a bit glossy. The 8bitdo keys do feel much better when typing than my "The C64". (not a surprise) Over all - its a good feeling keyboard, once you get used to the dished key profile.
I am using the keyboard under Linux, and the 8bitdo software does not work under linux, so i cant say much on it. If i ever need to upgrade the firmware - i may have to do it on a windows system.
The large buttons colors - sadly do not match the keyboard buttons/case.
Now onto the Little Joystick the second most stand out feature.
It plugs into the small 'headphone' type jacks in the keyboard in the 'x y' ports using a 2 prong connector. It is basically just 4 buttons, and you could likely do some work with an old analog/atari joystick to get the same function. Since this is my 2nd 8bitdo keyboard, I have a spare set of the A/B buttons. So this gives me 4 Big red buttons. and the joystick - which is kind of small. Smaller than an atari joystick. Its designed to sit on your desk it seems, and not held in hand. there are NO BUTTONS on the joystick.
To use the joystick, you use the macro button feature of the keyboard to make it become whatever other keys you need. IE: you remap it to be up arrow, down arrow, left arrow, right arrow. Its not hard to remap on the fly. But for some games where you may need ASWD and not U/D/L/R - you have to remap all 4 buttons. So the joystick does not appear as a 'game pad' or joystick to the system, its just basically 4 remapable buttons/keys.
The software may have some sort of quick toggles. But again the software is windows only. But the simple design, lets it work on my linux systems and likely on my other devices like the C64 Mini/Amiga Mini, and so on, without any hassles. (to be tested)
For now I have been playing some simple games with the joystick on the left side of the keyboard, and the A/B buttons (I have 4 i can remap) on the right.
The stick has a rubber mat on the bottom, and once i cleaned up the desk, it stayed in place very well. I played several games of Wavy Navy and Paradroid with it using vice. I noticed i was not able to get into 'take over' mode in Paradroid and move at the same time, I had the same issue when using just the keyboard directly as well. It may be the version of paradroid or vice i am using. OR - it may be that i was using 'shift' as the fire key in vice, so it does not repeat. There is no auto fire, or other fancy features.
So over all - Happy with it. The missing C64 codes/images on the front of the keycaps would be nice, but looking at the profile of the keyboard, it is a lot flatter than a real C64 - So even if those characters where there, you really would not be able to see them due to the spacing and angle of the keyboard.
Future testing is getting out my "The C64" or my "The C64 Mini", and trying it with those devices.
Any other requests?

2024.06.02 01:47 Difficult-Orange-467 LEGO Hogwarts Castle Boathouse (1.5 Upgrade)

I finally completed the boathouse! But I did do at least three or four upgrades to the initial set. Mind you this is using two copies of the set. If you would like to do this yourself, go for it!
1) I exchanged the smaller mushroom for the more detailed mushroom head. That way it matches the leaping toadstool caps in Hogwarts Legacy. Yes you'd need three close together but with the amount of space in this Lego set I opted to just eat these super tiny one and use the larger more detailed mushroom 🍄.
2) I raised The Boathouse up using 6 - 1x2 Tan or Med. Nougat Bricks. Although I appreciated how tall it was when I finished it, I realized that Professors, like Professor Snape for example, can just barely fit in the two side walkway entrances. It wasn't ideal for me and my adult Wreck-it Ralph fingers lol. So I raised it up. It should still look alright attached to the Great Hall 🏰.
3) Next, the angled Arch in the back of the boat house had too many gaps in my opinion. So I found some 1x1 Med. Nougat Plates to raise the 1x1 Slopes, and fill in those gaps a little bit more. What should I have more 1x1 tan plates, but I'll have to look later on.
4) Lastly, it's not perfect BUT I gave the kids lanterns to hold in the boats. Now I honestly think they need the transparent yellow minifig heads for lanterns, meanwhile Hagrid can still use the lantern piece. But I don't know. It doesn't look too bad. But I do want to go for accuracy, so I'll be getting some transparent yellow heads next week or so. And I'm glad I got the extra boats. But I feel as though I need one more for Seamus Finnigan and Draco Malfoy, who I have just sitting on a 8x16 plate with other characters from the Philosopher's Stone. 🕯🛶
I honestly do you like this little set, my only real issue with it is there's not enough room for figures to walk around or get off the boat. Like they have to get off the boat from the front to access the stairs, otherwise they got a parkour around the side. But I enjoy this and can't wait how this will scale with the Great Hall.
I probably won't be working on the Great Hall till tomorrow night when it's late and dark outside. Why? Why for the perfect atmosphere of course...and cuz I'll be sleep in the afternoon after work LOL. Oh yeah, the last images were from Hogwarts Legacy of The Boathouse as a reference in case anyone else wants to upgrade or improve their Boathouse and don't have Hogwarts Legacy the game.
