-> Can I simply install the new system and connect it to the Internet without worrying about the previous hack, since 1) the client left two obvious password files on his computer desktop, and 2) Avast gave a warning of open router ports? His ISP is Spectrum, so I don't have access to open/close any ports individually as far as I know, even from within the My Spectrum app.
-> Would a factory reset of the router work, or even be advisable?

I am basically new to computer tech support, and while I have a piece of paper saying I have studied networking, I have never had the opportunity to actually work in the field. So I am being ultra-cautious with a client who got hacked.
I have many years' experience using software and PCs but only 1 1/2 years in actually doing stuff in this new arena. I was a contractor (eww? but I did gain experience) for a year and now am a part-time, bottom-feeding freelancer, helping senior citizens with stuff that's hard for them but that I can do (ISP router and modem setup, printer connection and TS and repair, system research and recommendation, data transfer, OS reset, etc) without negatively impacting them. I happen to live in a retirement mecca, so...
Anyway, I have a client who got hacked, bad, (RAT with accessible password files, multiple-file deletion, etc), and he wants a new laptop - he thinks we can just plug it in and connect it to the internet, and all will be well; he is disconnecting and storing the old laptop and the data thereon rather than face the difficulties of remediation, which would be beyond my current capabilities. I tried referring out to a PC tech company but the client instead wants a new system.
Avast gave a network warning saying there are open ports on the router. Given that the hack was a RAT and that the client literally had two files named "Passwords...[date]" on his desktop, and that the hacker presumably has them, as well as the previous access info for his router, I am concerned that simply hooking up the new laptop will be a disaster, as for one thing, it will be a while before the client can change all the passwords, disconnect logged in accounts, set up 2FA, etc.
His ISP is Spectrum, so I don't know how or if the hacker actually got blocked ports, unblocked. I just checked Spectrum's site and there is an extensive list of the ports Spectrum itself blocks. So, I don't even know if the Avast warning was anything to worry about.

Kia ora. A few months after buying my house in Auckland (years ago now, no option to seek redress with the seller now) I noticed that my house wasn't connected to the stormwater network. Back in the January floods of last year, I found the old system of clay pipes when digging around my yard to stop my house from flooding.
I've followed the pipes it as far as the boundary line. I tried to get a drainage team to unblock it, assuming this is why someone decided to disconnect it, but they had no luck. Something is amiss out beyond my boundary. There are a bunch of pest trees on the berm, which council should be responsible for. Current thinking is that these have blocked and broken my clay pipes, but I can't prove it. I'd need to follow the pipes through public land. And just to make things complicated, there's a transformer on the berm.
I have the drainage plans for my house, but it doesn't show stormwater, only blackwater. However, my guttering once fed through pipes beyond the boundary and there are cesspits down the street and across the road.
I'm at a bit of a loss where to go. Has anyone faced a similar situation? Despite being on public land, the pipes are my responsibility until they join the network. 2024.05.16 07:31 Ace_Shadow05 Hosting a Minecraft server. Receiving errors when trying to connect over public IP.
Hello all, I have server hosted minecraft servers modded and vanilla for some time now. I ran into some issues when i first started getting into it but consider myself a pro at this point in time. I recently have been unable to connect to my servers as of March of this year. We had our internet upgraded and Received a new modem and router as a result of our old router failing in November. However after getting everything set up and port forwarded I had no other issues. It worked fine till March, I just got home from college and began to trouble shoot this issue and tried to make a pixelmon reforged server for it. I have tried everything I can think of to try to fix this issue including calling my ISP (Spectrum) to see if we can resolve this. Their only thing left to do is to replace the router with a new one from them or a third party. If you have any idea on what I can do let me know.
Things I have tried to do:
First i created the server through the ATlauncher. I was able to run the server fine and connect using my private IP. I then tried using my public IP and recieved the following error "io.netty.channel.AbstractChannel$AnnotatedConnectException: Connection timed out: no further information:" first thing i did was make sure the port was open on my windows defender fire wall. Made two new rules for port 25565 on both TCP & UDP for both inbound and outbound and did the same on the computer i was using to connect to the server. Still gave the same error. Then I tried port forwarding the router. This was the first issue I ran into, when trying to port forward 25565 on my router I get an error tried this a few time before i called spectrum, according to them on the router I have that port is disabled for "security reasons" and the only way to "unblock" it is with a new router. figured id just put the server on a different port. I changed the server to 25566 and ran through the same trouble shooting as before with no luck. this time i was able to port forward 25566 but with the same io.netty error. Thinking it might be something to do with java i clean installed java with the version of SDK for that server same error. Completely disabled my windows defender, same error. Tried creating a server for 1.20.6 (latest release), walked through all the steps, YouTube video and all. but instead I receive this error when trying to connect Connection timed out: getsockopt. I talked with a friend who know more about servers than me. His response was "The maths not mathing". I called spectrum a second time and walked through every troubleshooting method they had. Included but not limited to trying it with uPNP on/off, restarting router, modem, and all devices on the network, clearing all ports and reserved IPs, disabling and re-enabling the security shield. Nothing worked the guy I was on the phone with has no clue why I cant host a server. He recommended getting a new spectrum router so my public address resets, and then if that doesn't work to purchase a 3rd party router to manage myself. I wanted to try a few things before doing that. So I sent the server files to two friends. one uses spectrum one does not, neither have any ports forwarded and have never hosted servers before. walked through the same process with both of them and the friend with spectrum could also only connect locally while the other that doesn't have spectrum we could connect to. I am lost and am convinced spectrum just sucks and won't admit that they don't let you server host anymore.

Update: marking this as solved. I don't know what caused the lock out - I'm 100% certain I only entered my password once. "Resolution" if it counts: I'm thankful I had the DSfinder app installed on my ipad through which I was able to see "IP Blocking" settings and managed to unblock the IP address of my PC. Had forgotten I had installed it on that device. Don't think it contributed to the issue as again, device is WiFI only and never open the Synology app. Just massively relieved!

Background
I last logged into my DSM 2 days ago on my PC. Just tried to log in right now and something odd happened, I'm used to signing in by entering my password followed by 2FA code even though it's my personal device. This time on attempting to sign on to my admin account, after entering my username I received a message to validate my log in using the Synology Secure SignIn app instead of entering a password. I do not have the app. I tried another non-admin account, still the same message. Upon attempting to log in with a password, instead I receive a message saying too many failed attempts have been made to log in and the IP address has been blocked. To be clear, I had not made any prior attempts from my personal device (it was sleeping until about 5 minutes before I attempted to log in). Although I couldn't access my DSM account, I was still able to access my mapped network drives. I tried to restart my PC and tried to log in again, but same result, and this time no luck with accessing mapped network drives either.
Edit to add: I never log into my NAS through any other devices besides this PC in my home network.
Existing Security
My NAS is exposed to the internet only via Plex. It is port forwarded so not the standard 32400 and behind a double nat. Plex has a secure password and also has 2FA.
I have firewall rules set up so only can be accessed in my country of origin UK, and after 3 or 5 wrong attempts I believe it blocks the IP. Prior to this I've never had any attempts made on my NAS.
I have my original admin account disabled, and the new one is super obscure. My password is beyond what is reflected here: https://caltechsites-prod.s3.amazonaws.com/imss/images/2023_Password_Table_Square.original.jpg
In addition, I haven't logged into my authenticator app on this device.
Oddities

Synology assistant isn't having luck finding the Synology NAS on the network at all either.

My 2FA is always from my personal phone and I don't log into that on my PC. Really not sure how else they could have gotten access, and again, no emails or anything, nothing has been zipped.

Background

I've been grappling with a complex issue that arose a few days ago. Specifically, I'm working on an adventure map, a 2D bottom-up network of interconnected nodes really, that represent the player's exploration options, past choices, and future possibilities. The map in Slay the Spire serves as a useful reference for this.
In designing the solution, I don't have the problems with: + Showing current player options. I simply connect the player node with the following nodes directly above, while the connection is an animated dashed line. + Showing past decisions. Each visited map node is specially marked while not visited ones are grayed out.
However, I struggle with properly communicating the not-yet reachable map nodes, which WILL become reachable in the following nodes.
Why is it problematic? + If I don't connect the 1+ above future layers of map nodes (representing future levels/decision moments), they seem disconnected and do not communicate that the player WILL be able to reach them. + If I connect each actual connection, given that I can move to any next-level node from each level's node, this results in myriad connections even with a simple setup of 2x nodes now and 3x nodes next. + Focusing on aesthetically displaying the connections (so only showing the connections that look nice, especially do not cross each other) results in a "lie", as I don't show the actual connections and options the player will have.
This is quite a problem, as I either don't communicate all of the actual options to the player; or I communicate them in a messy, ugly way; or I don't communicate it at all :D
I can present some screenshots, as I did not see this option in the post creator.
I'm truly grateful for any insights or suggestions you can provide to help me overcome this challenge and unblock my project.

Supercomputer admins would love to have a single code that used the whole machine, both the compute elements and network elements, at close to 100%. In fact they spend a significant fraction on network elements to unblock the compute elements, but few codes are really so light on networking that the program scales to the full core count of the machine.They even used both terms. I hope this is not the wrong place to post this. Have been using manjaro as main os since Jan 2021. This seemed like a large update with kde6 and all.
My wifi is no longer working even though the device is detected and it seems like I have the right driver.

Well, I have been with my girlfriend for a little over 2 years, I am M19 F19, we are about to start college and there are changes that I did not expect so soon.
My girlfriend is not one to have a lot of friends or girlfriends in general, she always had 1 or 2 at most and lately we are spending more time together than we have in a while.
She started talking to high school classmates these days and I was happy that she had friends outside of our relationship.
She started talking to a guy she met before she met me, she told me once that she used to like him a few years ago, and a few months ago we had a discussion in which she mentioned that she dreamed about him doing romantic things and it didn't affect me because I knew it was part of her past but I found it weird, since she almost took it as an excuse to end the relationship, according to me because she was confused.
These days she started to make contact with him and a few more friends that she told me about making a group between them, when she mentioned it to me I felt a little surprised and a little insecure, I mentioned it to her and she told me calm is just that I want to have friends and I thought it was a good idea to contact them and take the friendship again well, I replied it seems good but I just wanted wue keep in mind that it makes me a little uncomfortable that situation, but I do not want you to change or stop talking to her then ended that conversation without getting to much , just me accepting the idea.
Yesterday we went to an event in which I went away from her for a while to go to the bathroom telling her that I would wait for her at the entrance because her father was going to pick her up, so I could accompany her to the bathroom, then time passed and I saw her going out with a guy that didn't look familiar smiling and laughing and looking somewhat flirtatious while talking to her, then my mood changed, I felt jealous and insecure (I must admit that I was very rude) I approached her without knowing how I should act because she was not meeting and being friendly with guys in general, and even less if they were strangers so I went to meet them and I went ahead of them in an abrupt way, with a face of a bitter feeling I went out and went ahead to meet her father, she had dropped something but I only saw it out of the corner of my eye while I was picking it up and I don't know for sure what happened with the guy I was with, then I got to her father and I said goodbye with a low voice while I went on my way (I know, very rude). By the time I got home I grabbed my cell phone and started blocking and unblocking her and the networks and unfollowing her and things I'm not proud to say, then I calmed down and thought better of it and it didn't make sense what I was doing.
She sent me a message apologizing for how she left and asking me if it was ok because the previous attitude is not normal for me (I am usually too affectionate and attentive to her so she thought it was weird) then I explained to her why I was that way, she told me it was a partner from an ex-job that just told her what happened with that place, I felt partly relieved and embarrassed by my attitude, and all that night I behaved in a bad way with her so to speak, then she sent me messages saying your way of acting and the way you treat me when you get like that, I do not like and it makes me uncomfortable, to think that if I have more friends when you see me you will behave that way and that is very selfish of you.
In the night tonight I dreamt 2 times of her being with the two guys I mentioned to you and it put me in a weird mood, the first one being of her dating the first guy, being affectionate and such, the second one with her ex co-worker kissing and being boyfriend and girlfriend while I watched. Today in the morning I told her about the dreams and she said it's your problem to think I'll be with other guys and it got me thinking.
It's worth saying that I'm a little insecure physically, because of my height and how skinny I am, I've always struggled with jealousy for years, I try to handle it and not let it affect me too much but it always comes out in one way or another.
I don't want to keep feeling like this, pretending like I feel good in front of her, because it affects me, my relationship, my mood and therefore everything else.
How can I stop feeling this way? What do you think about my situation?

Hello everyone, I recently received a gift from my parents. It's the Lenovo ThinkBook 16 G6 IRL. I would like to do some ROS projects on it, but the wifi adapter does not work (Intel WiFi 6 AX203). I tried upgrading to version 22.04, and the wifi adapter worked on it. However, I encountered issues running ROS, so I had to revert back to Ubuntu 20.04.Here are a few things that I have tried
