SEL OTD Price?

2024.05.30 01:27 SigmundAnnoyed SEL OTD Price?

I'm considering trading in (or private selling) my current car and getting a 2024 Taos SEL, particularly given the current 0% APR for 60 months deal. I know this varies by region, availability, etc. and for context I'm in a large metropolitan area with multiple VW dealers, some of which have 15+SELs on their lots. I'm trying to decide a fair OTD price so I can do some math with the value of my current car to see if it's worth it. I know Edmunds and other sites have price checkers, just curious to see how well they actually line up.
What did you all pay for your SELs OTD (including tax if applicable)? I'm considering one with the black wheel package and French roast interior, in case that matters.
TIA!

2024.05.04 22:52 lihb0725 The West China Adventure of Li (2023) — Chapter 13 — Go Where? Village Hemu or Baihaba ?

The West China Adventure of Li (2023) — Chapter 13 — Go Where? Village Hemu or Baihaba ?
August 6, 2023: Day 16
On August 5th, it just so happened to be the birthday of my wife's best friend. We gathered again at midnight to celebrate with candles and cake.
Planning the Next Adventure
With the birthday celebration behind us, we turned our attention to planning the next leg of our journey.
Our itinerary was set to take us through the mesmerizing landscapes of Northern Xinjiang, starting with the dreamlike destinations of Hemu and Kanas Lake. We would then embark on the iconic Duku Highway, immersing ourselves in the rich history of Kizil Caves before returning to Kuche for a family reunion.
Finally, we would make our way to Kashgar, where we would marvel at the ancient city and the earliest Buddhist grottoes before bidding farewell to this remarkable region and heading back home.
Preparing for the Road Ahead
As soon as we returned to our hotel, we wasted no time in packing our belongings and making the necessary preparations for our early morning departure the following day.
Eager to experience the wonders that awaited us, we were determined to make the most of our time in this captivating region.
Hemu Village and Baihaba Village are both villages located within the Kanas scenic area in Xinjiang's Altai Prefecture, they are both well-known tourist destinations renowned for their stunning natural beauty and unique ethnic cultures.

1. Choosing Route: Exploring Hemu and Kanas

Embarking on a journey from Urumqi to the enchanting destinations of Hemu and Kanas, you'll traverse the vast expanse of the Junggar Basin and the ethereal Gurban Tonggut Desert. Three distinct self-driving routes await your choice, each offering a unique blend of captivating attractions along the way.
Western Route: Take G30 Lianhuo Expressway, S20 Wukesu Expressway, and National Highways 217, then County road 852, including the Tieka Section, Tieye Section, and Yihe Section. This route, spanning approximately 700 kilometers and taking around 9 hours to complete, winds its way through the cities of Karamay, Fuhai, Bei'tun, and Burqin.
Eastern Route: G7 Jingxin Expressway, S11 Wuda Expressway, and National Highways 216 and 331, Provincial Highway 232, and County road 852 Tieka Section. Opting for this route, you'll cover approximately 900 kilometers in 12 hours, passing through the towns of Fuyun, Kök Tohai, and the No. 3 Mine Pit.
Central Route: Newly Constructed S21 A'uwu Expressway, National Highways 331 and 232, and County road 852 Tieka Section. This route, stretching approximately 750 kilometers and taking around 9 hours to drive, takes you through the cities of Fuhai, Bei'tun, and Burqin.

As the first rays of sunlight pierced through the morning haze, we set off on our adventure, opting for the direct northern route that would lead us through the heart of the desert. Our chosen path was the S21 A'uwu Expressway, a modern marvel stretching from Urumqi to Bei'tun, promising a full day of exploration and discovery.
The S21 A'uwu Expressway boasts a remarkable design, featuring dual four-lane or six-lane carriageways that cater to the smooth flow of traffic. Its construction in the vast expanse of the desert presented unique advantages. Mountains were leveled, and bridges were gracefully arched over low-lying areas, creating a seamless journey devoid of significant bumps or jolts. The sparse traffic further enhanced the driving experience, allowing us to fully immerse ourselves in the tranquility of the surrounding landscapes.

2. The Sunflower Sea

Our fully fueled car happily zoomed under the blue sky and white clouds, constantly switching between the desert and oasis. Even on the desert, there was green grass covering it, not the bare sand dunes you might expect.

Actually, Xinjiang's water resources are quite abundant, but they are unevenly distributed. Along the way, we passed by many lakes and marshes, and in vast stretches of farmland, corn was thriving and growing vigorously.
https://preview.redd.it/3djlixa8zgyc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=c3294305ecdf9a9c4715f135abb3b766d4da6b81
At noon, the sunlight was glaring, and even the sunflowers looked a bit wilted. I tried taking a few shots, but they didn't capture the essence, so I gave up and hurried back into the car to continue our journey.
https://preview.redd.it/t416rw5bzgyc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=70af6fd4dfd80b174421fbbdcc0cbc24355e1cb5

3. Fuhai Lake

Deep in Xinjiang's inland region and even far from any ocean, there lies Fuhai Lake, a vast lake resembling a sea. Nicknamed the "Pearl of Junggar" and the "Jiangnan of the Northwest", Fuhai Lake is China's only inland "Gobi Sea" famous for its wild fish.
Here, you can enjoy birdwatching in spring, water activities in summer, scenic views in autumn, and ice fishing in winter.
https://preview.redd.it/oiks3g270hyc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=fa7b636d8709aca5c6458a3f7479bac6368296cf
In early 13th century, Genghis Khan's army passed through here on their western expedition. Seeing this vast and hazy lake with rising clouds and mist, they named it Ulungur, meaning "the place where clouds rise" in Mongolian, but in Kazakh, "Urungu" means "a bottomless pit."
https://preview.redd.it/6aie7efp0hyc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=8fecc91d481899ad2325785faaf6fccd4a124264
The Erqis River, China's only river flowing into the Arctic Ocean, meanders gracefully along the northern edge of Fuhai Lake. This lifeline not only provides the lake with an abundance of water but also brings a rich diversity of fish species. As a result, Fuhai Lake has earned the well-deserved reputation for its delectable "All Fish Feast," a culinary extravaganza showcasing the lake's aquatic treasures.
https://preview.redd.it/xzpb4swt0hyc1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=48d2a8e04637ff907d368dcd5efef3eff1699ef8
Beitun serves as an important supply point and transit hub for self-driving and touring in northern Xinjiang. Many hiking and cycling enthusiasts gather here before heading to Kanas, Hemu, and Baihaba. Local cuisine mainly consists of Xinjiang specialties, with notable dishes including roasted whole lamb, stir-fried "hutu," and minced meat rice. Hotels or guesthouses here are quite affordable, although they may be fully booked during peak seasons, so remember to book in advance.

4. Arriving at Baihaba

Our original plan was to rest in Hemu and Kanas.
However, after looking around along the way, we found that accommodation prices during the peak tourist season had skyrocketed, and we couldn't find a room. It made me wonder if some people just had money blowing in with the wind, as they seemed completely unconcerned about prices.
We decided to change our destination on the spot and head to Baihaba instead, avoiding the crowded Hemu. We stopped to rest in Burqin along the way. I ordered a plate of pilaf for lunch, while my wife had Tokesun No. 4 noodles. I wonder how they tasted.
https://preview.redd.it/glryz9sh1hyc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=88e9baca8d8719ae6a0f7f4b5de071bf7ca40b28
In northern Xinjiang, the scenery lies in Altay, while the scenery in Altay lies in Burqin. Known as the "Fairy Tale Border Town," Burqin derives its name from the river. In Mongolian, "bur" means "three-year-old male camel," and "jin" means "herder." In addition to Kanas Lake and Hemu, Burqin also boasts attractions such as the Five-Colored Beach, the Stone Figures on Argun Gaiti Grassland, the County Riverside Night Market and Cultural Street, and the Friendship Peak Glacier, which is the lowest glacier in Xinjiang. All of these are worth a visit.
https://preview.redd.it/dpn79pll1hyc1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=114528365e065c5a960f3ac3093f9bf95c3ec246
Whether heading to Kanas, Hemu, or Baihaba, a border permit is required. Not knowing this on our first visit, we found out at the administrative hall in Burqin that the border permit had to be obtained directly in Habagexian County, resulting in an unnecessary trip. After arriving at the border station in Habagexian County, we successfully obtained the border permit and continued our journey northwestward along Route 219, winding through the countryside.
Due to the high latitude and altitude of northern Xinjiang, it could be considered early summer at this moment. Along the roadside, some wheat fields had already matured and been harvested, while others were still growing. We saw blooming rapeseed flowers, grazing cattle and sheep, and even camels along the way.
https://preview.redd.it/97929cnr1hyc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=b638473826da4ae7038a3b9b4ae3215eb34b9e72
On the hillsides, various shades of yellow and green patches dotted the landscape, truly living up to the title of "Eastern Switzerland." After passing through Tiekereti Township, both the Tiebai and Baikaduan sections are mountainous roads, constantly climbing, turning, and descending among the hills. At the grand canyon near the Zhongka border, we encountered light rain. After stopping to take a photo, we continued our journey all the way to Baihaba Village.
https://preview.redd.it/zx4yte7y1hyc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=bb14ae311d9bf84199b6e4102d07d33e986a9eac
Baihaba Village is situated on the border between China and Kazakhstan, right at the peak of the "rooster's comb" on the map of China. Nestled in a valley, the village is built on a narrow plateau between two small streams, surrounded by mountains and water. It is a village where primitive natural ecology harmonizes with ancient traditional culture, making it one of the most beautiful eight towns in China. It still retains its original appearance from hundreds of years ago.
https://preview.redd.it/o4metxe12hyc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=dcb12b7625908b659c8940112b48067e4b146d53
The local residents are mainly Tuvan people, known for their unique ethnic costumes, religious beliefs, and customs. Their wooden houses and livestock pens are scattered among the pine and birch forests, creating a serene and harmonious atmosphere.
https://preview.redd.it/t547mgc42hyc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=82a5f15efa1543f5eff2cb73f85414c5d5d3a81f
Baihaba Village is known as the number one village and the number one outpost in northwest China. From May to October each year, it experiences a tourism boom. The roadside guesthouses are filled with Xinjiang-registered RVs, out-of-town self-driving vehicles, and bicycles belonging to cycling enthusiasts.
https://preview.redd.it/vq7i4cb82hyc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=9ebf78e987b63881a8a2e7eecd8f9b8a35baafb8
The innkeeper and his wife efficiently completed the check-in procedures. Since it was already late, we ordered a Kazakh-style stewed beef with rice for dinner. The large plate of stewed beef was generous in portion, but it was a bit too salty. We ended up with plenty of rice leftover after finishing the dish.
https://preview.redd.it/sc44d3ec2hyc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=f361b9af8a39eb6c75e2f00b615c4339e8b081fc
After driving the whole day, feeling a bit weary, we took a short stroll nearby to aid digestion. By 10 o'clock, we returned to the inn to rest, planning to visit Kanas Scenic Area the next day.

The West China Adventure of Li (2023) — Chapter 11 (Part 1) — Baiyanggou Buddhist temple and Bezeklik Caves
2023.8.3 Day 13
After arriving in Hami, I had the pleasure of meeting two groups of friends.
My mood was excellent, and even when I returned to the hotel at midnight, I was still too excited to fall asleep. Eventually, in a drowsy state, I managed to drift off, only to be awakened by the early morning light.
From now on, we entered Xinjiang, my wife’s hometown territory, I’ll just follow her guide, obey instructions, and try to serve as a dutiful driver.

1. Hami

Since the moment I stepped into Xinjiang, I just felt the daylight hours stretch exceptionally long. The sun rises around 5 a.m., and it doesn’t get dark until around 10 p.m.
No wonder everyone takes a midday nap.
In Hami, the morning begins with a bowl of clear noodle soup. Wide chive noodles are doused in a generous spoonful of spicy red oil. It warms the stomach, induces a sweat, and keeps you blowing air to cool your mouth and wipe your nose.

Hami City, formerly known as Kunmo, Kunwu, Yizhou, Yiwu, and Hami Wei, is located on the eastern edge of the Tianshan Mountains. It serves as the "Eastern Gateway" of Xinjiang, leading to the inland regions.
As an ancient key town along the Silk Road, it is often referred to as the "throat of the Western Regions" and the "east-west thoroughfare". Hami City was a fortress where Zhang Qian of the Han Dynasty opened the Silk Road to the Western Regions for the first time, and it has been a frontier outpost for managing the Western Regions since the Han Dynasty.
Hami has been quite low-key, so much so that most travelers tend to overlook it.
Hami is an oasis sandwiched between the eastern Tianshan Mountains, the Great Gobi Desert, and the Sea Pass. It thrives on the nourishment of the snowmelt from the eastern Tianshan Mountains, which hold a significant historical position as they are the homeland of the renowned Yuezhi people mentioned in the historical records of the Western Han Dynasty.

Hami melon has actually been a unique fruit offered as tribute since the Yongping period of the Eastern Han Dynasty. It only gained fame after Kangxi's pacification of Xinjiang and the bestowed name "Hami melon." Since the early Kangxi period, Hami surrendered, and this melon began to be offered as tribute, called Hami melon.
If we trace its origins, Hami melon originates from the area around Shanshan County in Turpan, with more than 110 different varieties. Based on their ripening periods, they are classified into early, mid-season (summer melons), and late-season (winter melons). Early varieties include HuangDanzi, NaxiGan, YibaoTang, Baozi Delicious, Shitian 401, characterized by thin skin, fine flesh, and rich fragrance. Mid-season varieties include red-heart crisp and juicy, with thick and delicate flesh, fragrant and refreshing. Late-season varieties include dense black eyebrow, dense green hemp skin, Paotai red, green skin red flesh, green skin winter melon, yellow skin white flesh delicious, among others. After storage, the texture changes from crispy and firm to soft and juicy, sweet and fragrant.
The Hami Museum provides historical insights into the varieties of Hami melon. Before learning about it, many people were unaware of the diverse range of varieties available.

I have heard the song "Ailipu and Sainaimu" by Dao Lang, and I always thought Sainaimu was a person's name. In fact, it is also a traditional dance style of the Uyghur ethnic group. Sainaimu means "beautiful idol."

In the Hami Museum, there is an introduction to Uyghur cuisine. I carefully went through it, and I'll try my best to taste various regional flavors during the rest of my journey.

The architecture of the Hami Museum is very distinctive with ethnic characteristics, and it also serves as a performance hall. However, on the day I visited, there were no scheduled performances.

2. Baiyanggou Buddhist temple

In the museum, I saw the story of Xuanzang. After finishing our visit, we set off for the ruins of the Poplar Valley Buddhist Temple.
Out the museum, we headed west along National Highway G312. The road was flat, with desert on both sides, and in the distance, we could still see the snow-capped Eastern Tianshan Mountains.

Following the navigation, we made a right turn into a village. After passing through a stretch of towering poplar trees, the landscape suddenly opened up. There wasn't a soul in sight in the vast scenic area, and the midday sun hung high in the sky, emitting waves of heat. The surface temperature must have exceeded 40 degrees Celsius.
My wife didn't want to get sunburned, so she reluctantly came along to see a few mounds of ruins, then promptly sought refuge in a shady spot to cool down. I ventured alone under the scorching sun to explore the ruins of the Poplar Valley Buddhist Temple.

The Poplar Valley Buddhist Temple complex is divided into the Upper Temple Group and the Lower Temple Group:
  • The Upper Temple Group mainly consists of the ruins of the Poplar Valley Buddhist Temple located upstream of the Poplar River, locally known to the Uyghur people as "Tai Zang." The Poplar Valley Buddhist Temple dates back to the Wei and Jin Dynasties and is one of the earliest and largest temples in the Hami region. It was abandoned around the 14th to 15th centuries AD.
  • The Lower Temple Group is mainly distributed between the ruins of the Poplar Valley Buddhist Temple and the ancient city of Lafuquek, along the Poplar River from northeast to southwest. The temples in this group include the ruins of Toma Temple, Qiaopu Temple, Kumutulu Temple, Yangdake Temple, Jialangjulong Temple, and Tuohuqi Temple.
Xinjiang has historically been a region where multiple religions coexist, and religious harmony is the mainstream of religious relations in Xinjiang. The Poplar Valley Buddhist Temple is a testament to the coexistence of multiple religions throughout Xinjiang's history.

It is said that when Xuanzang embarked on his journey to the Western Regions to obtain Buddhist scriptures, after arriving in Yiwu (Hami), he initially intended to continue westward along the northern foothills of the Tianshan Mountains. However, upon hearing about Xuanzang's arrival, Qu Wentai, the King of Gaochang (Turpan), sent people to welcome him in Yiwu. The Poplar Valley Buddhist Temple was a necessary stop on the way to Gaochang, and Xuanzang stayed at the Poplar Valley Temple and preached there. Xuanzang washed away the dust of the journey in the Poplar River, then preached to the monks in the Great Buddha Temple, spreading the Buddha's teachings far and wide. Incense and candles illuminated the day, while the scent of incense filled the air.
This remaining small temple is said to be the place where Xuanzang stayed.

In the distance, there are some other ruins, but the intense sunlight and UV rays made it feel like we were being roasted. To save time, I quickly snapped a few photos from afar. The sky was a deep blue, and the trails left by passing airplanes added to the desolate atmosphere of the remnants of the ancient site. There was a faint sense of desolation reminiscent of the line "The vast desert smoke rises straight, the setting sun rounds off the long river" from the poetry, "A Song of Pilgrimage" by Wang Wei.

The animals in the desert have adapted to the hot and dry climate. They often dig burrows and retreat underground to escape the heat during the day. They come out to forage and play when the temperature drops in the evening.

3. Bezeklik Caves.

Hurriedly checked in at Poplar Valley and continued on to the next destination, the Bezeklik Caves.
From National Highway G312 to G30 Lianhuo Expressway, passing through Tuyugou Interchange and continuing on G312 to Erbao Interchange, then onto a bumpy road, we reached the backside of Flaming Mountain, which is where the Bezeklik Caves are located.
The newly built expressways in Xinjiang are fast and smooth, and the tolls are much cheaper than in mainland China. Many sections have independent two-way lanes, and large vehicles drive quite orderly.
Overtaking is relatively easy, and there aren't too many surveillance cameras. However, one must always remind oneself not to exceed the speed limit too much. Cars on the adjacent national highway can easily reach speeds of 100 km/h, sometimes making one hesitate whether it's really necessary to take the expressway.

https://preview.redd.it/99iaz3dfbwqc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=5585dd05c611962fb83931ecb26b96cff25d5f5a
The Bezeklik Caves are the largest group of caves with the most extensive mural content among the existing grottoes in Turpan. They are located on the cliffs on the western bank of the Mutoogou River in the middle section of Flaming Mountain. There are originally 83 caves, but only 57 of them remain today, with more than 40 containing murals. The total area covered by murals exceeds 1,200 square meters.

https://preview.redd.it/ny2m9lhkbwqc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=db1a7f3e6aa2df20be489ebcd296efaf9e1f0c55
"Bezeklik" in Uyghur means "mountain slope," while in Turkic languages, it refers to "decorative painting," indicating the presence of murals.
The Bezeklik Caves were first carved in the late period of the Northern and Southern Dynasties and endured for seven centuries through the Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, and Yuan Dynasties, serving as the Buddhist center of the Gaochang region.
During the flourishing period of the Gaochang Uighurs, Bezeklik was once the royal monastery of the Gaochang kings.
In the late 13th century, the invasion of the Kara-Khanid Khanate led to the defeat of the Gaochang royal family, who relocated to Yongchang in Gansu. Islam spread to Turpan, and Buddhism gradually declined. The Bezeklik subsequently fell into decline, suffered damage during religious conflicts, and became an "uninhabited area" after experiencing both natural disasters and human destruction.

https://preview.redd.it/pi4xz4nrbwqc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=ef96c43a7afc48fbce4159ebf9b46ac3835e97ea
In the early 20th century, the Bezeklik Caves suffered repeated looting and destruction by various foreign powers such as Russia, Germany, England, and Japan, among others.
Between the 30th year of the Guangxu reign (1904) and the 2nd year of the Republic of China (1913), about 90% of the murals in Bezeklik were violently cut and damaged by four European exploration teams. These murals were then smuggled out of the country in batches and ended up being collected by various museums abroad, including the Asian Art Museum of the Berlin National Museum, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Tokyo National Museum, the British Museum, the National Museum in India, and the National Museum of Korea.

https://preview.redd.it/9cptsjeybwqc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=ba095367ba589a020e7e31f98a46fc9f09938b3b
On Christmas Day in 2023, I specifically visited the Asian Art Museum in Berlin to see those treasures that couldn't return home. The collections in Berlin are even more exquisite than the remaining remnants in China. Thieves like von Le Coq and Stein brought back the essence of murals and sculptures from places like Bezeklik, Dunhuang, and Kizil along the Silk Road, and even dismantled entire temples from India to reconstruct them in Berlin.

Atlas, Luna

“For your fourth course, would you like the Alaskan Halibut or the Diver Scallops?”
“The what? And the what?” Quaullast squinted in utter confusion, as if trying to decode an alien language, which he supposed he was. He swiveled his head toward Frumers. “Was Soerru Steakhouse this complex and fancy in Malgeirgam?”
“No, the menu is wildly different. They must have altered it.” Frumers scratched his head, visibly bewildered too as he scrutinized the menu tablet held in front of him by the ever-patient Marsha. But then his expression shifted, gaining a certain sly confidence. “But my nose doesn’t lie. The steak is real. See? It says authentic Soerru steaks for the second — which it says here is the main — course.”
Still mystified, Quaullast turned his attention back to the Terran waitress. “Can you explain the options?”
“Of course,” Marsha beamed, then replied, obviously reading from a prepared script, “The Alaskan halibut is an aquatic animal known for its firm, flaky texture, originally from the Alaska region on Earth. It is lean with a mild sweetness, and flavored with vegetable purée and salt-cured fish eggs. Usually, it is cooked to done, though we can accommodate any serving temperature requests up to raw. As our fish menu is entirely sustainable and cruelty-free, there is no danger of foodborne illnesses associated with consuming—”
“Cruelty-free?” Quaullast interrupted. “What does that mean?”
This seemed to stumble her for a nanosecond, but Marsha regained her stride with professional grace. “Our fish menu has been certified by an independent and reputable auditing organization to have never utilized live animals at any point in its production. The Alaskan halibut fillets are grown fresh from high quality genetic samples in a specialized facility. Would you like to see a picture of the original halibut we use in our restaurant?”
A cocktail of mild revulsion and compelling curiosity swirled within Quaullast. “It’s flesh meat made from grass? Sure, yeah. I’d like to see it.”
“We do not use substandard, soy-based substitutes at our establishment. The meat is real and grown with a flavor, texture, and nutrition profile identical to the original,” Marsha assured him while bringing up a dated picture of a large Terran posing next to an even larger aquatic animal on her tablet.
“Whoa, check this out, Spommu! That aquatic animal is huge! Taller than them!” Quaullast nudged his friend, his eyes widening.
Spommu rolled her eyes as she checked out the display. “Yes, but they’re not serving you that particular specimen. It’s some prey trickery with their grass—”
“I thought you didn’t care about that. It’s just food, right?” Frumers interjected smugly.
Before another argument between the two could erupt, Quaullast pivoted back to Marsha. “It looks interesting, except the grass on the side. What about the other one? Does that one include the grass too?”
Marsha responded with practiced ease, “You can order either without the vegetable purée. The other option is the diver-harvested scallops, which is an aquatic invertebrate with a tender and slightly chewy texture and a mildly sweet and salty taste. It is paired with spice-cured ham and vegetable root purée. The ham is also cruelty-free, but it is a small portion. We can remove the purée for either option if that’s what you’d like?”
“Yes, please,” Quaullast decided. “Are the scallops real meat?”
“Indeed. They are sustainably farmed on Terra and manually harvested by robots that are certified to do zero net damage to their surrounding seafloor environment.”
“Sure, sure. I’ll take that one then.”
“Fantastic. Now for your fifth course, due to your dietary preferences and requirements, we will be forgoing the usual sautéed vegetable dishes and replacing it with our signature chicken roulade, stuffed with maitake mushroom, a large fleshy fungus high in vitamin D, and paired with a side of authentic Malgeir brostros. I believe you should be familiar with…”
Every snout in the bustling dining hall swiveled toward the kitchen doors as they swung open. A plump Terran chef, adorned in a puffy, comical white hat and a starched apron, confidently navigated her way through the sea of tables. She wielded a large, steaming tray and set it down with flair in the center of their table. With a grandiose flick of her wrist, she lifted the gleaming silver lid, filling the air with a very familiar aroma.
A5 Soerru Tenderloin Slider!” she announced with pride in her voice. “This dish features A5-grade Malgeir Soerru. It’s carved right from the prime section below the creature’s ribcage: lean, exquisitely tender, and cooked to medium-rare. As for the toppings, it is paired with slices of candied bacon, some maple onion jam, and—”
Her words hung in the air, unfinished, as a flurry of paws and claws emptied the tray in front of her.
“Is there… more?” Spommu asked in half-ecstasy between mouthfuls as she quickly chewed her way through the entire slider: meat, grass, and all.
Marsha smoothly stepped in. “Ah, this is just the appetizer. We can prepare a refill, but I would recommend you give the rest of the courses a chance first. Now, if you have any suggestions for our food or service, please make sure to let me know. We’re bringing out your first course as soon as we can.”
The first course was Lobster Risotto. The butter-dipped grains on the side added an unfamiliar but not unwelcome texture to the whole dish, and his tongue made it perfectly clear to his brain how little it cared that what he put in his mouth was made from seeds and not a live animal. Like every other Malgeir at his table, he’d stopped caring where the meat stopped and where the grass started. The lobster meat itself reminded Quaullast of a Granti aquatic delicacy he had when he was a pup. It peeled right off its red, scorched shell and rolled right into his stomach.
It was already the greatest plate of food Quaullast had tasted in his life to that point. But they were just getting started.
His second course was the Soerru Filet Mignon. The chef explained that the animal’s taste profile is identical to an actual reconstructed Soerru which had been fed olives and was extra rich in certain fatty acids. Frankly, Quaullast didn’t hear much of it over his loud chewing. The portion size was almost as large as a regular pre-war ration meal, and he devoured it all: the meat, the drippings. Hell, even the fine herbs on the side were not spared from his un-discerning appetite.
Quaullast had never eaten anything quite so delicately prepared. And judging by the contented groans and other assorted noises coming from his crewmates beside him, they were equally blown away.
The third course was Roasted Soerru Bone Marrow. The chef seemed cagey about what prey sorcery the bone was actually made of, but it looked and felt perfectly identical to the thighbone of an actual Soerru. Inside its hollowed-out interiors were what they called basil breadcrumbs — a buttery, crunchy filling made of grass combined with other grass — and shredded freshwater eel, yet another aquatic animal with a savory taste. The Terrans certainly had a bottomless variety of aquatic animals and methods of cooking grass, and Quaullast did not blame them one bit.
He noticed that Frumers had bizarrely taken out his datapad and started taking pictures of the food. “What are you doing?” he asked.
“I have no idea, but I just feel instinctually compelled to document this experience,” Frumers replied, slightly embarrassed but seemingly unsure why.
“Send it to me when you can,” Spommu said, picking out pieces of her roasted bone marrow from her teeth as she crunched on them. “The guys on the Seuvommae will not believe this.”
“Too bad I can’t record the smell and taste,” Frumers lamented.
Quaullast’s fourth course was the Diver Scallops. It would have been a perfectly delightful dish by itself and would have satisfied him if that was all the Terrans had served for dinner. But from the flavorful aroma from Frumers’ plate, who had gone for the slightly more adventurous, cruelty-free Alaskan Halibut, he was beginning to regret his choice.
He girded himself for rejection and asked Frumers, “Can I trade you a piece of mine for your aquatic—”
Suddenly, Marsha, who had been stealthily hovering nearby, interrupted smoothly, “Would you like to sample the halibut? We can bring out another plate from the kitchen if you’d like.”
Quaullast looked at her like she’d grown a second head, but he was not one to let a caught prey out of his grasp. “Yes, please.”
She paused to speak into a small, metallic implant nestled just under the skin of her cheek, a faint blue light pulsing to indicate it was active.
Frumers perked up, curious, “Hold on a second, is that a wireless data connection?”
“It sure is. It’s so we can talk to the kitchen.”
Frumers furrowed his brow. “That’s odd. If your communicator works, how comes ours don’t?”
“Right. The other table asked about that too,” the Terrain hostess replied. “This is the port transit zone. We’re in a restricted area. Only approved devices are allowed in this area.”
“But why?”
She shrugged. “Some terrorist attack a few years ago. And before you ask me like the other table, I don’t know how they jam the signals either. I just know no unapproved communication devices work on this side of the terminal.”
“Thanks,” Frumers muttered.
Just then, an extra helping of halibut arrived at Quaullast’s place, landing with perfect timing as he gobbled down the last of his scallops. The waitress whisked away his empty plate without missing a beat.
“Hey Spommu,” Frumers, munching on his own flaky fish, called over to Spommu snout-deep in her own plate. “Pretty quiet over there. Are your taste buds ready to be baptized in the church of Soerru Steakhouse?”
Spommu rolled her eyes but said nothing. She was too busy stuffing her face with the buttery, garlicky goodness of her pan-seared scallops, each bite almost audibly singing in her mouth.
Quaullast chimed in, eyeing his plate suspiciously, “I get the impression that the Soerru Steakhouse back in Malgeirgam is nothing like this. I know for a fact that no Malgeir alive can cook grass this good.”
“Well,” Frumers cleared his throat. “It’s not the exact same, but they got the steak right on the mark.”
Quaullast raised an eyebrow. “Really? You’re saying back on Malgeirgam, you can get your Soerru cooked only to halfway?”
Frumers sighed, defensive. “No. But that’s only because they have some strange mechanism here to eliminate the danger of microbes while not fully cooking the meat. I’d never thought you could eat Soerru half-cooked, even if something about the rawness of it does somehow make it taste better. It’s juicier. Or maybe it’s the risk of it. The service and sides here are better, though, no doubt about that,” he conceded.
“Strange how the Terrans are able to replicate so many food items from our home world,” Spommu said, finally coming up from her plate for air. She gestured for the waiting Terran’s attention and asked, “Hey, Marsha. Even if it was replicated, you must have gotten the taste of our food from somewhere. How did you guys do that?”
Looking pleased at the implied praise of their authenticity, the hostess pulled up her tablet with pictures of a crate brimming with frozen meat and showed it to the crew. “After one of the Znosian raids on one of your supply convoys, our military scanned and cataloged the contents of the wreckage, which included a delivery for the restaurant. We filed a Freedom of Information request and got access to the genetic samples. Our chefs did the rest, reconstructing the menu from the convoy manifest and a little creative guesswork. We are so glad you’re enjoying it.”
“Of course,” Marsha added hastily, clearly trying to not sound too callous. “Our hearts go out to your people lost to the unprovoked Znosian war and the inhumane xenocides. Which is why our restaurant is donating fifty percent of all our operating profits to a charity putting together ration donations for war refugees on Malgeiru through the Office of Alien Affairs.”
Quaullast grinned, holding up his cup. “Well, I don’t know if it’s authentic because I’ve never been to the original one, but this is fantastic. Say, can I get some more of your unusual stelgi?”
Throughout the meal, Marsha kept coming around and refilling their cups. The beverage she served was a variation of the stelgi, a familiar Malgeir-inspired drink, except instead of being as alcoholic, there was a sweet carbonation in it, leading to a mysteriously spicy aftertaste.
Supposedly, it was a palette cleanser — a strange concept.
But a welcome one, Quaullast thought as he downed a third of his cup in one gulp.
By the time he finished his halibut, Quaullast was so full he was unsure if he could lift the weight of his stomach with his rear paws and drag himself back to the shuttles.
Then, the desserts came.
If the dessert menu came at this point after he’d completed the four courses and his extra halibut, Quaullast was sure his full stomach would betray him and decline to pick a dessert. Instead, it came before the meal, and it looked like it had more options than the actual dinner menu. Given the lack of a carnivorous option, Quaullast had ordered a Strawberry Mousse Cake based entirely on the listed calorie count: it had the most. He figured he couldn’t go wrong with that tried-and-true methodology.
Now, he was realizing that he simply couldn’t fit anything more into his stomach.
As Quaullast sat there, staring at his barely touched confection, his logical brain was in a heated debate with his rebellious stomach. He couldn’t just stop: there was still more left to eat in front of him.
Spommu was engrossed in dissecting her Apple Cheesecake. She had picked the first item on the menu, not caring which of the grass-based desserts the Terrans would feed them. Now she was probably regretting not studying all her options before making a choice. But not very much regret, Quaullast noted: it still looked like pretty good apple cheesecake.
Across the table, Frumers had triumphantly polished off his Fresh Lemon Sorbet, yet another daring choice from the hangar bay officer given that the Terran waitress had described it as a completely fruit-based dessert. Of course, that was before the Pesmod crew had come to a new, more enlightened understanding of well-made prey food.
Frumers stared at the elegant cup containing Quaullast’s almost untouched mousse with uncontained avarice. Wiping some excess drool off his snout, he asked, “You going to finish that or what?”
Just as Quaullast was racking his brain for an acceptable way to tell him to go jump out an airlock, Marsha swooped in like a guardian angel. “Actually, we can pack it up for you guys to-go if you’d like.”
Every pair of eyes at the table pivoted in unison to focus on her, including Quaullast’s now-widened orbs.
“To— to go?”

The West China Adventure of Li (2023) — Chapter 10 (Part 2) — Drive to Hami
5. Dunhuang City
I recommend to stay in Dunhuang for a while and embark on a slow journey to savor the heroic tales and legends of history.
Dunhuang, located at the western end of the Hexi Corridor, is one of the four major oases in Gansu Province. To the east lies the Three Perils Mountain, to the south is the Mingsha Mountain, while to the west, the desert connects to the Lop Nur, and to the north, the Gobi meets the foothills of the Tianshan Mountains. Dunhuang is renowned worldwide for the Dunhuang Caves and Murals, boasting the UNESCO World Heritage site, the Mogao Grottoes, as well as the Yumenguan and Yangguan Passes on the western border of the Great Wall, once the scene of "envoys meeting on the road, and merchants crowding the path."
Dunhuang served as a crucial hub and gateway for the Central and Western exchanges along the Silk Road, where the cultures of the Central Plains, Buddhism, West Asia, and Central Asia converged, collided, and fused. This convergence made Dunhuang a "great metropolis where cultures converge," characterized by a rich humanistic atmosphere and vibrant culture, as vividly depicted in the murals on the ceiling of Cave 296 at the Mogao Grottoes.
During the Spring and Autumn Period, Dunhuang was ruled by the Wusun and belonged to the Guazhou region. In the Warring States Period, it was part of the Daxia Kingdom. With the rise of the Xiongnu during the Qin and Han Dynasties, Dunhuang came under their control after they defeated the Wusun. However, during the Western Han Dynasty, Emperor Wu launched a counterattack against the Xiongnu, incorporating the Hexi region into the territory of the Han Dynasty. In the sixth year of Yuanding (111 BC), Dunhuang Prefecture was established, its name meaning "Dun," meaning "great," and "huang," meaning "prosperous."
Although Dunhuang experienced frequent conflicts during the Han and Wei Dynasties, its economy gradually prospered, becoming a center for the dissemination of Central Plains culture and the eastward spread of Buddhism, making it the cultural center of the Five Liang. The "Geographical Records" of the "Old Tang Book" records that during the Tianbao period, the Lantern Festival was celebrated, with Chang'an ranked first, Dunhuang second, and Yangzhou third, attesting to its prosperity at that time.
During Emperor Yang of Sui's campaign to the west, he defeated the Tuyuhun and forced the Western Turks to surrender, reopening the Silk Road once again. In the second year of Wude of the Tang Dynasty (619 AD), Shazhou was established, marking a period of prosperity for Dunhuang. In the second year of Qianhua of the Later Liang Dynasty (914 AD), Cao Yijin advocated for peace with neighboring regions and vigorously developed agriculture and animal husbandry, leading to a resurgence of prosperity in Dunhuang. During this time, the Mogao Grottoes entered an era dominated by the excavation of large caves.
In addition to the Mogao Grottoes, Dunhuang actually has many attractions worth visiting. The famous "Eight Views of Dunhuang" include the remnants of the two passes, the Ganfo Lingyan, the perilous peaks facing east, the northward flow of the Dang River, the clear moon spring, the evening view of the ancient city, the spring plowing in the embroidered land, and the clear singing of the sand ridge on a sunny day.

  • Mingsha Mountain, located in the desert southwest of Mogao Town, Dunhuang, is commonly known as Shensha Mountain. It was called Sha Jiao Mountain during the Eastern Han Dynasty and was first referred to as Ming Sha Mountain during the Jin Dynasty. With a length of 40 kilometers from east to west and a width of 20 kilometers from north to south, the main peak of the mountain stands at an elevation of 1715 meters. Renowned for the sound produced by the moving sand, it is often windy with sand and dust swirling year-round. On clear days, it can emit sounds resembling "silk and bamboo orchestras," making it one of the "Eight Views of Dunhuang" known as "Shaling Qing Ming."
  • Crescent Lake, also known as Wo Wa Chi or Sha Jing in ancient times and later renamed as Crescent Lake since the Qing Dynasty. It is nestled amidst the encirclement of the Ming Sha Mountain and derives its name from its crescent-shaped appearance. The spring water of Crescent Lake, known for its perennial existence without being engulfed by sand, is home to medicinal plants such as Seven Star Grass and Ironback Fish. Crescent Lake is one of the "Eight Views of Dunhuang" known as "Yuequan Xiaocheng," and according to legend, it was where the Queen Mother of the West once leisurely bathed.
One of the most impressive features is the ability to dig into the sandy ground nearby, where beneath the surface, it quickly becomes damp, and with further excavation, water springs forth. Scientific analysis attributes this phenomenon to the Dang River flowing through the Dunhuang Basin, serving as the only river in the region and the primary source of groundwater. In its natural state, the groundwater level within the Dunhuang Basin is higher than the surface level, resulting in the overflow of water in the lower terrain between the fans, forming the Crescent Lake.
Visiting Ming Sha Mountain and Crescent Lake during winter is a must, and here are a few images from the internet for everyone to enjoy.

  • The site of Yumen Pass is located in Xiaofangpan City, northwest of Dunhuang, serving as the gateway to various regions of the Western Regions during the Han Dynasty. Emperor Wu of Han, during the Yuan Ding or Yuan Feng period (from 116 BC to 105 BC), established and constructed the Han Great Wall from Jiuquan to Yumen. The existing city walls of Yumen Pass are intact, all built of yellow loess soil. There are gates in the west and north walls, and below the northern slope of the city, there are east-west carriageways, serving as historical routes for travel, communication, and postal stations between the Central Plains and the Western Regions.

Title: Moon Over the Mountain Pass
by Libai, Tang Dynasty
The bright moon rises over the Tianshan Mountains, Amidst the vast expanse of clouds and sea. The long wind blows for thousands of miles, Blowing through the Yumen Pass.
Below the Han Dynasty's White Gate Road, The barbarians peer over the Qinghai Bay. This land of war and conquest, Seems devoid of human presence.
The soldiers stationed at the border, Long for their homes with sorrowful faces. In the high tower on this night, Sighs echo, unable to find peace.

  • Yangguan, located 70 kilometers southwest of Dunhuang, is situated in the Antiques Beach area. It derives its name from its location south of the Yumen Pass, serving as another crucial gateway to the Western Regions during the Western Han Dynasty and a necessary passage on the southern route of the Silk Road. The site preserves numerous relics from the Han Dynasty era, including the ancient Yangguan ruins, beacon towers, ancient roads, Shouchang City ruins, sections of the Han Great Wall, the Han-era Wo Wa Chi site, the Xitu Gou (also known as Tangwulu Jian) site, ancient tombs, and pottery kilns.

"The Song of Yangguan Pass" is one of the top ten ancient Chinese qin pieces, composed based on the famous poem "Farewell to Yuan the Second Departing for Anxi" by the renowned poet and musician Wang Wei. The poem includes references to places such as "Weicheng" and "Yangguan," hence it is also known as "The Tune of Weicheng" or "The Tune of Yangguan."

  1. Drive to Hami City
After visiting the West Thousand Buddha Caves and returning to the parking lot at the Mogao Grottoes along National Highway 215, my wife's "Another Encounter with Dunhuang" had just finished. The Mogao Grottoes marked the first milestone of our self-driving journey. Initially, our plan was to end our visit here and start the return journey, arriving back in Beijing in 10 days. However, we only managed to secure a tour reservation for the earliest slot on the 5th. Did we really have to wait here for three more days, amidst the hustle and bustle of people coming and going? My wife had long been eager to return to Urumqi to visit friends and reunite with family in Kuqa. With our journey back feeling incomplete, we decided to continue our road trip through Xinjiang. Let's go enjoy the sweetest fruits, delicious lamb skewers, and roasted buns along the way!

https://preview.redd.it/68hdc3c3zonc1.png?width=1090&format=png&auto=webp&s=313da7399250e0db6b0991b1ab5feeeb71fc6291
Traveling through the Yangguan road, exiting the Yumen Pass, passing by the West Lake, traversing through Ku Shui, arriving at Hami, let's exploring the beautiful Xinjiang!

Switching from G215 National Road to G30 Lianhuo Expressway, we traveled through the desert all the way. The rapid construction of highways in the west ensures good road quality, allowing us to speed up, with most sections having a speed limit of 120 km/h. As we approached the Gansu province border, we refueled at a service area. A Uighur attendant at the Sinopec gas station told us that this was the last place before entering Xinjiang where we could refuel without showing identification. This highlighted the unique procedures in Xinjiang.
Feeling a bit fatigued from the journey, I rested in the backseat while my wife continued driving. She posted on her social media about our journey to Hami, and surprisingly, a friend was already there. Naturally, we arranged to meet up. In the evening, we enjoyed authentic Xinjiang lamb skewers and stuffed pancake, accompanied by refreshing Big Wusu beer.
It was a delightful feast after a long day on the road!

2024.02.19 10:11 HereToAdult Build-a-Legacy Challenge. AKA Travellers Challenge.

CONCEPT:
Each generation lives in a different world to the previous one, until you've completed one generation in each world.
When your heir is ready to take over the family, move the heir to the next world on your list.

Step 1: Choose your playstyle
Step 2: Choose your Rules
Step 3: Choose a neighbourhood to start in!

It does not contain a storyline. That's for you to come up with.
There are endless creative ways to play a legacy, and my goal is to provide you with framework for your own personalised legacy challenge.
This is just framework for a challenge. A list of tasks for each generation to complete, with the goal of exploring packs & playstyles that you may not usually play with.
You are free to alter anything you like, as the goal is to enjoy yourself.

Note Before:

PLAYSTYLE

I recommend that, at the very least, you pick a reason why your family moves each generation. For me they were nomads driven by the desire to explore new places. But maybe your sims are on the run and have to keep moving and changing their family name. Maybe your sims are just really unlucky, and every generation is "chased out of town". Perhaps it's coincidence, and every generation leaves town for a different reason. Maybe your family are aliens, and they want to explore the planet, and each generation needs to build a rocket ship before the heir can move to the new location.

Nomads:

Rags-to-Riches & Repeat:

Building the Family Fortune:

RULES

Suggested rules for every generation:

NEIGHBOURHOODS

These are the special rules and conditions that are unique to the generation that lives in each neighbourhood/world.
Each neighbourhood challenge will follow this format:

Sometimes a category will be repeated, eg having two aspirations to complete, or extra skills to max. This is done to balance the difficulty levels and to help explore aspects of a pack. Eg Snowy Escape has 2 aspirations and 4 skills. You may choose your favourite one of these options, or you can try to tackle all of them.
You are completely free to change anything you want. You can use these as a guide to making your own challenges, especially if you are using basegame or limited packs and want to do each neighbourhood instead of each world.
I have not included jobs per generation, but you can add your own easily. You can find a list of all Sims 4 careers by visiting https://sims.fandom.com/wiki/Career_tracks#The_Sims_4

The West China Adventure of Li (2023) — Chapter 6 — XiNing City, Qilian Moutains & Gulang County
2023.7.29 Day 8
Qingshui Bay is known as the No.1 turnaround of the Yellow River. The Yellow River water comes from the snow-melted water from the source, and it is still clear and cool here, bringing coolness to the hot summer. In the morning, you still need to wear a skin windbreaker to keep warm. There are many people coming and going in the Holiday resort, but it is not much noisy, the place is quiet and I sleep well at night.
I went outside to enjoy the scenery for a while in the early morning, then returned to the hotel for breakfast.
The young girl who received me at the front desk last night was busy again, helping out at the restaurant contracted by her family. The local specialties of lamb steamed buns and noodles, with fragrant and not spicy chili oil and pickles, were so satisfying!
After eating, I went back to the room to pack my luggage, got in the car and started the engine, and continued to head west to the Tianti Mountain Grottoes in Wuwei.
The navigation distance to Wuwei city is close to 900 kilometers, and the journey is a bit far. I was very worried that I would not be able to make it on the same day or have to drive hard at night (in fact, I did not make it). I planned to rest in XiNing city at noon and taste some local snacks—baked pancakes with meat skewers, firecracker noodles, pulled noodles, and lamb neck dipped in chive sauce, which are affordable and delicious local specialties, and then continue.
1. First entry into Xining City
XiNing Has an ancient name like ShanZhou, XiPing County, QingTang City, the capital of Qinghai Province. It is a place the ancient "Silk Road" and "Tangbo Road" must pass through, known as "The key to China West, throat of the Qinghai and Tibet".
The roasted flatbread with meat skewers is one of my longtime thoughts and obsessions for XiNing City.
Back to the year of 2004, when I went to Beijing looking for a new life style. In my new job , the first business trip destination is Xining city. In mid-June I went to Xining, the work went well and my appetite was good. Every day I have to eat outside, I rembered two roasted flatbreads with half a kilogram of meat skewers only cost me 5-6 RMB.
After a few consecutive meals down, I gained five or six pounds weight in just 3 weeks, superise!
I ever told many people about this delicious. Unfortunately, since then I have never been to Xining again. Although Zibo barbecue and Northeast jerk is also good as well, but I think of Xining's roasted flatbread with meat skewers.
Having had such great memories, please tell me how to not want it.
The roasted flatbread in Xining involves cutting a few slits on both sides of the white flour pancake, brushing it with clear oil and a special seasoning sauce, and then baking it over charcoal. Well-seasoned lamb, cooked to perfection, is also cut into large chunks, skewered, and grilled until crispy with a sprinkling of cumin and chili powder. The sliced bread thoroughly absorbs the aroma of lamb fat and seasonings, emitting a fragrance of wheat after baking.
You can cut the finished bread into pieces and mix it with lamb skewers, or you can eat it like a roujiamo by sandwiching the grilled meat between the bread. The bread is crispy, fragrant, and sweet, while the lamb is rich, tender, and smooth. One bite of bread, one bite of meat, and even if it's hot, you can't stop eating.
https://preview.redd.it/8ux9ntywa7fc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=de0a67f93bc30bda6036581247602ed29e7ea3de
The lamb neck is something local Hui Muslims take you to queue up for and sit on small stools to eat. Their business is more popular than other restaurants, and the secret chive sauce significantly enhances the taste of the lamb neck meat.
Lamb neck is considered a "tonic" in the local context. The meat from lamb neck, being constantly active, is lean with almost no fat layer, resulting in excellent texture and rich nutrition. The meat of lamb neck lacks any gamey or unpleasant taste, only possessing the natural aroma of meat, allowing one to taste the freshness of tender grass from the prairie in each bite.
The meat from lamb neck is fresh and of high quality, with excellent nourishing properties that can supplement deficiencies and benefit qi. When freshly cooked, the lamb neck meat is tender and sticky. Dipping it in the secret chive seasoning, a bite melts in the mouth, smoothly sliding from the tip of the tongue to the base, entering the esophagus and stomach. The mouth is left with the lingering fragrance of meat and the subtle spiciness of chives, prompting a silent savoring. Then, it's a series of hearty bites, one after another, savoring the delicacy.
https://preview.redd.it/hy1qgnncb7fc1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=c0a8b2ad8bd9033db8c441bc9ae81c78bcb862cb
I must try these unique local dishes in Xining again!
Time flies, and in the blink of an eye, 19 years have passed.
Taking advantage of this road trip, I plan to visit Xining city and seize the opportunity to have another taste of roasted flatbread with lamb skewers. This is one main reason why we are passing through XiNing.
Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the shop where I indulged in the delicious treats back then. The flatbread was from a roadside stall. Despite searching on Baidu and Dianping, there was no clear result, only recommendations for the now more famous ShaLiHai Food City.
Time is precious, it need a quick decision made and goals set. I quickly set the navigation to the destination -Shalihai Food City in Xining, and off we go!
Before setting off, it's advisable to visit the health center in Qingshui Bay, to treat my wife's wound re-disinfected and re-bandaged. Given the hot weather, it's crucial not to be any careless, just in case.
Qingshui Bay is a must-pass location on the G310 National Highway, and there are many large trucks on the road. To save time and ensure safety, it's better to take the expressway.
Along the G310 Xunlong Expressway and G0611 Zhangwen Expressway, you can faintly see the Yellow River. The road is flanked by grassy hills, occasionally passing through several mountain tunnels and caves, making a swift journey all the way to XiNing city.
But it's a bit regrettable not to follow the meandering Yellow River for sightseeing.
https://preview.redd.it/m97z91qad7fc1.png?width=1090&format=png&auto=webp&s=e5dcdb52e0d9194d6cae8674804b6076ddd67fcd
2. Exploring the Culinary Delights of Xining
From Qingshui Bay to Xining is less than 200 kilometers, and taking the expressway saved us time, allowing us to arrive at the food city a little after 11 AM.
Xining has well-organized traffic management, and with narrow roads and no parking spaces on the roadside, we quickly parked in a nearby parking lot. Upon reaching the food city, we realized it had just opened, experiencing the time difference typical of the western regions.
Even though we just came for the roasted flatbread, the manager informed us that they don't serve it along with lamb skewers during lunchtime; we would have to come back in the evening.
Since we had a late breakfast and weren't hungry by noon, we decided to take the advice from our friends on social media and ordered several Xining specialties: traditional yogurt, scrambled eggs with Chinese chives, lamb neck, and stuffed skin. The disappointment came when the lamb neck turned out to be a cold dish. Even though dipped in garlic, it felt a bit greasy and lacked the tender, melt-in-the-mouth sensation we were expecting, completely overturning our fond memories.
https://preview.redd.it/edenndvld7fc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=5932a6bc969266a95b29b7b95d57265d4ad0c295
Xining indeed boasts many other culinary delights, such as hand-grabbed lamb, yak steak, Qinghai three-roast, deer-antler fern, dog pouring urine (a dish with a unique name), sweet embryo, milk and egg fermented glutinous rice, and more. These dishes are worth exploring and tasting in person.
In this city, you can experience the richness of the local culinary culture through the diversity of its cuisine. Before you go, make sure to check your "foodie vision" and get ready to indulge in a culinary journey!
https://preview.redd.it/068hp6bnd7fc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=4dc96013957565a2850611f0ef805263469355be
Although so much types of cuisine may be delicious, but without getting to taste the long-craved roasted flatbread and lamb neck, my happiness index has left to only 50 squares.
It's unable to compensate for the disappointment in my wounded soul.
3. Crossing the Qilian Mountains
After lunch, I retrieved the car from the parking lot. As the noon sun intensified, I turned on the air conditioning for a blast of cool air and navigated to a gas station to fill up the tank before hand.
The Fiat Bravo car, with only a 1.4T turbo engine, has covered over 15,000 kilometers on this journey. Except for a few instances related to fuel quality issues, the power efficiency has been consistently ample. Downshifting for acceleration and overtaking smoothly, providing a delightful driving experience and a sense of pleasure.
Starting from the navigation mistake near Bingling Temple and the subsequent detour around the mountain, I feel the scenery and driving experience along the way was outstanding, it is creating a bit of an addiction to mountainous roads.
Consequently, I decisively abandoned the high-speed priority route recommended by Amap app and chose to take the provincial road S103, turning onto the national roads G338 and G312. This decision led to the challenge of traversing and crossing the Qilian Mountains. Driving at a leisurely pace, I savored the lush greenery and the blue sky and white clouds, fully enjoying the pleasure of the road trip.
https://preview.redd.it/k1rv1fete7fc1.png?width=1090&format=png&auto=webp&s=6fecd50a74a27439c3074fd0d8af813a878c1559
The Qilian Mountains consist of seven parallel ridges and the narrow valleys between them, running in a northwest to southeast direction along the border between Gansu and Qinghai provinces.
The term "Qilian Mountains" specifically refers to the southern mountain range corridor of the northernmost ridge. According to Yan Shigu's annotations, "Qilian Mountains" is synonymous with "Tianshan", as the Xiongnu referred to the sky as "Qilian". In the "History of the Han Dynasty - Records of the Xiongnu," it is mentioned that the Xiongnu called the sky as "Chengli", which corresponds to "Tenggeli" in Mongolian and Turkish. There is no corresponding term for "Qilian" in Mongolian or Turkish, and both phonetically and semantically, it is close to the ancient Chinese character for "sky" ('qhl'iːn'), suggesting a borrowed Chinese place name.
It is the presence of the Qilian Mountains, with glaciers and mountainous rainfall, that nurtured the rivers feeding the Hexi Corridor, paving the way for the Silk Road.
Driving through the Qilian Mountains at an altitude of over 2800 meters, where the plateau climate is cold and spring only begins in July to August, we find ourselves in the most beautiful moment of the year.
The slopes along the road are covered in lush green with wildflowers, yaks and horses graze leisurely, rapeseed flowers are in full bloom, patches of barley fields have turned yellow and matured. Passing through rivers and villages, with distant mountain peaks still covered in pure white snow in the ravines, the scenery is incredibly magnificent and breathtaking.
https://preview.redd.it/gnlmgfdye7fc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=f8184e498a3d05dac93a6fdc684586d75a395948
Despite being cautious and choosing only PetroChina and Sinopec gasoline along the way, we still fell victim to a problem with the fuel this time. After hitting the road, I discovered issues with the fuel we had just filled up—either too many impurities or the addition of ethanol.
There were quite a few large trucks on the provincial and national roads, hauling heavy loads and moving at slow speeds, usually around 40 km/h.
Often, when attempting to overtake a large truck, I found that pressing the accelerator resulted in a soft and powerless response, as if stepping on cotton. Even with the pedal fully pressed, the speed couldn't be increased, causing a brief moment of anxiety.
The journey involved navigating through winding canyons and mountainous lanes, following or overtaking lines of slow-moving cars. Constant acceleration, overtaking, and being overtaken required a vigilant assessment of oncoming traffic speed and distance to ensure safe and effective passing—truly an exhilarating experience.
We passed through the town of Heaven in Huzhu County. It was aptly named, with light clouds, gentle breezes, and a vast sky creating a sense of tranquility. Surprisingly, there was even a memorial hall dedicated to Confucius, built by the Kong family members who migrated and settled there for centuries.
On the S103 provincial road, there is a Zodiac Slope with twelve narrow and steep turns, each adorned with a zodiac sign. This 15-kilometer stretch poses difficulties with its narrow, winding paths and steep slopes. The highest point reaches an altitude of 3280 meters, and for safety reasons, half of the road is painted a conspicuous crimson color.
Following a large truck downhill, we opted not to overtake for safety reasons, trailing behind and watching as the heavy-loaded truck maneuvered through the twisting mountain roads, carefully navigating each turn and twist. It felt even more thrilling than driving through the mountains ourselves.

4. Overnight in Gulang County
Exiting the Qilian Mountains and continuing along the G312 National Road towards Wuwei City, we officially entered the Hexi Corridor.
The G312 National Road features mostly flat terrain, allowing for quick acceleration and overtaking. However, as the sun began to set, we reached Gulang County with darkness already enveloping the surroundings, prompting us to decide to stop and rest.
This marked our first visit to Gulang County.
The name "Gulang" is a shortened form of the Tibetan phrase "Gurangwa," which means a place where yellow sheep frequent.
Gulang served as a crucial transportation hub on the ancient Silk Road, controlling the passage of three auxiliary roads and guarding five strategic passes. It was established in the second year of Emperor Wu of Han's Yuan Shou era (121 BC) and initially comprised three counties: Cangsong, Tocci, and Pohuan, all under the jurisdiction of Wuwei Prefecture. In the early Ming Dynasty, it adopted the name Gulang.
Gulang County is part of Wuwei City in Gansu Province, located at the eastern end of the Hexi Corridor.
It is bordered to the south by the Wushao Ridge and Maomao Mountain, both extending from the eastern branch of the Qilian Mountains. To the north lies the Tengger Desert, making it a convergence zone for the three major plateaus of Qinghai-Tibet, Inner Mongolia, and Loess.
Our reserved hotel was right next to the Civic Square, but it took me a couple of rounds to find the parking entrance. After checking in, we quickly headed to the recommended local restaurant to try some featured braised meat and sauce pig trotters.
Gulang's braised meat is meticulously prepared by simmering the meat in an aged broth until the liquid becomes thick, clear, and shiny, and the meat becomes tender and succulent. The perfectly colored braised meat is translucent, enticingly appealing, with a soft outer layer that melts in the mouth.
The meat is rich and not greasy, crispy and tasty with a delightful crunch, and the tenderness of the chewy bones leaves a lingering taste. It truly opens up the appetite.

"Dida vegetable"(地达菜) is a rare plant that combines characteristics of algae and fungi, commonly known as "DiJianPi"(地捡皮) in the Gulang area. This plant has a deep green color, offering a crisp and smooth texture. Combined with the fresh and vibrant greenery of chives, it presents an enticing and nutritionally rich dish. Tasting refreshingly light, it opens up the appetite and leaves a delightful impression.

The Gulang Osmanthus Noodles, as the name suggests, have an appearance resembling osmanthus flowers. It is prepared by simmering high-quality lamb, tofu, potatoes, bean sprouts, green onions, and garlic into a thick and flavorful meat broth. The osmanthus noodles are then boiled in the broth. Once cooked, the osmanthus noodles are steaming hot, topped with green onions, cilantro, salt, and chicken essence, releasing a delightful aroma. The combination creates an excellent taste experience.

'A Bunny Tells All' book recap & discussion - chapter 4 titled: Center(fold) of Attention
Stephanie soon learns that Mary holds a ton of power at Playboy - she says apparently when Hef calls the Playboy offices its no big deal, but when Mary calls, people are scared and scrambling. Mary had been working with Playboy since 1969 at the Chicago mansion with 24 bunnies, she loved the energy of the girls. In August 2001, S is told she will be on the cover of Playboy along with being Miss October 2001 and is over the moon. Her first magazine signing is in her hometown of Cincinnati and her family throws a huge party. A few days later back at the mansion, the Sept 11 2001 attack on the twin towers takes place, rattling everybody and bringing Stephanie's Playmate publicity tour to a halt - justifiably so says S, she wouldn't want it any other way and does not feel cheated out of any fanfare. About a month after 9/11, Hef's scheduled Comedy Central Roast goes forward. S enjoys New York's variety of people and says they also had a melancholy visit to Ground Zero. At the roast, S says Gilbert Gottfried told some 9/11 jokes but switched tracks after the crowd booed, it was too soon. \*note: Hef's comedy central roast is apparently scrubbed from the internet, nowhere to be found)
October 2001 Playboy cover - Stephanie is on top of the football. // At Hef's Comedy Central Roast filmed Sept 29 2001: L to R: Michelle Winchester, Sandee Westgate, Holly, Christi Shake, Hefner, Tina Jordan, Charis Boyle a Playmate, Stephanie, Tiffany Holliday. [*To the right: Photos of Christi, and Sandee (with the peekaboo cleavage), as their faces were not clear in the group shot*]
S's centerfold publicity events begin again, she mentions that she enjoyed touring a list of different cities. Back at the mansion, S sees Hef's love for animals with his zoo permit, and his weird eating habits: donut in the morning, soup and sliced tomato at 4:30, and dinner in his bedroom at 10 or 11. S says the Weds/Fri going-out night followed by Hef's bedroom was another routine - but if you drank too much or were on your period you didn't have sex with Hef - and since all 7 gfs took turns she didn't have a ton of sex with Hef herself, and there was no jealousy. S says this orgy/mansion sex life was unique and she learned and experienced a lot the year she turned 21 at the mansion - but that if any girl didn't like it they didn't have to be there, and to complain about it after is two-faced. S says when Holly later stated she did not like sex with Hef, it was news to S as she was there with Holly and remembers all the girls embracing and enjoying the experience.
Jennifer Walcott Miss August 2001 // Nov 17 2001, L to R: Michelle, ??, Tiffany, Stephanie, Hefner, Tina, Christi, Holly, Sandee, ?? the same 7 girlfriends from Sept 2001-Nov2001
Stephanie says she and Jennifer Walcott, Miss August 2001, bonded at the mansion and remembers their video tour of the mansion grounds they had fun making together - link to the video on YouTube. S says another good friend who lived in the mansion named 'Sandra' (S says the one who hooked up with the Lenny Kravitz impersonator in Europe) was never made Playmate which made Sandra resentful towards Hef. Stephanie says Hef thought Sandra looked too much like a stripper rather than the girl-next-door type Playboy preferred, and Sandra later went to work for Hustler. \*note: one of Hef's gfs during this time was named Sandee and she was not made Playmate and did later pose for Hustler - However, she's not in the May 2001 Cannes photos where the Lenny Kravitz story happened. Maybe S is mixing 2 gfs together, or 'Sandra' is a code name, or Sandee was in Cannes too....)
S talks more about bonding with Mary and helping host dinner parties at Mary and Captain Bob's. S could be her true silliest self and Mary was unbothered and would laugh at her antics. S hops over to describing being at a Fun in the Sun mansion pool party, when new girls who did not live in the mansion were flirting with Hef and went up to Hef's bedroom with him. S and the other girls are alarmed he would do this in front of his 7 faithful, centerfold girlfriends. S vents to Mary who basically says that's Hef and to get over it. The 7 girlfriends go out without Hef as he had other plans, they stay out past their 10PM curfew and all ignore calls from the mansion to their cellphones - they are all feeling miffed about Hef bringing those other girls to his bedroom. They return home and go to Christi Shake's room where Hef joins them to talk. He tells the girls he is who he is and although its not fair he gets to sleep with whoever and they don't, that's the deal at the mansion and they all agreed to this unfairness. S is not sure how to feel, Mary encourages her to do what she feels is best but whatever that is, be sure to leave on good terms with Hef.
December 2001 vs February 2002. December 7 gfs L to R: Holly, Michelle, Christi, Tina, Stephanie, Tiffany, Sandee. February gfs, L to R: Stacey Burke, Zoe Gregory, Holly, Tina, Tiffany, Michelle?, Renee Sloan, Lana Kinnear (Lana is also in the Dec 2001 pic next to \"2\" Michelle). So, gone between these months: Stephanie, Christi, Sandee. (Gone soon after: Michelle and Tina. Izabella is not in this 2002 pic but is in others by Jan and Feb 2002).
A few days later, S and two other girlfriends decide to leave. S says her Playmate Promotions jobs were limited since Hef wanted his girlfriends at the mansion, so she talks with Hef about her decision to move on as she is young and wants to do more for Playboy Promotions. Hef understands and says she is always welcome back. S and the two others leave and new girls fill their spots immediately. Then main girlfriend Tina decides to leave, S says Holly moved in to the main bedroom that same day and is unsure if Hef even asked. S says Holly was quiet, meek, and preferred arts and crafts to partying with the other girls in the Grotto. Stephanie moves out of the mansion January 2002 after about a year, she says most girls stayed 1-2 years but Holly stayed 5 years. S says she can't imagine 5 years as after her 1 year she was ready to move on to her next phase of life - chapter ends with her getting her own apartment 10 mins from the mansion, and focusing on working for Playboy Promotions.

2023.12.25 04:39 Safety1stThenTMWK Porter / Dark Lager Split batch

I’ve been thinking about doing a split batch using BYO’s Edmund Fitzgerald clone recipe (below) and just changing the yeast. I was going to use US-05 for the porter and w-34/70 for the lager. I’ve previously made the porter with Lallemond London Ale and found that it under attenuated a bit, so I’m hoping this porter will finish a bit drier. Any feedback? (particularly on if this should be a decent lager—I’ve never done a dark lager)
Edmund Fitzgerald Porter clone
(5 gallons/19 L, all-grain) OG = 1.060 FG = 1.015 IBUs = 37 SRM = 34 ABV = 5.8 %
A rich, robust, complex ale that was brewed as a tribute to the legendary freighter’s fallen crew.
Ingredients 11 lbs. (5 kg) 2-row pale malt
12 oz. (0.34 kg) crystal malt (60 °L)
8 oz. (0.22 kg) chocolate malt (350 °L)
8 oz. (0.22 kg) roasted barley (450 °L)
6.75 AAU Northern Brewer pellet hops (60 min.) (0.75 oz./21 g at 9% alpha acids)
2.4 AAU Fuggle pellet hops (30 min.) (0.5 oz./14 g at 4.75% alpha acids)
2.9 AAU Cascade pellet hops (0 min.) (0.5 oz./14 g at 5.75% alpha acids)
1⁄2 tsp. yeast nutrient (15 min.)
White Labs WLP 013 (London Ale) or Wyeast 1028 (London Ale) yeast
3⁄4 cup (150 g) dextrose (if priming)
Step by Step Mix the crushed grains with 3.75 gallons (14 L) of 170 °F (77 °C) water to stabilize at 155 °F (68 °C) for 60 minutes. Sparge slowly with 175 °F (79 °C) water. Collect approximately 6 gallons (23 L) of wort runoff to boil for 60 minutes. Add the hops as indicated. After the boil, cool the wort to 75 °F (24 °C). Pitch your yeast and aerate the wort heavily. Allow the beer to cool to 68 °F (20 °C). Hold at that temperature until fermentation is complete. Transfer to a carboy, avoiding any splashing. Condition for one week and then bottle or keg. Allow the beer to carbonate and age for two weeks.

This story was commissioned by u/Nebuer01

A/N: CHAPTER 9!!! CHAPTER 9!!! I just finished Tome of the Body Chapter 9, so that's why is mistake is there. Sorry, been a while since I did that last.

It took Robert the best part of two days to find what he was looking for. As his only starting information for finding the hidden grove where he’d been born was that it was on the continent of Tyrman and in a forest, he really didn’t have much to go on. Thankfully, common sense told him that it had to have been the Dagorra Forest. Many fae were said to live in and around that forest, benefiting from the protection of the God of Nature and the discretion of his druids. Nobody was stupid enough to harm the Dagorra Forest for fear of angering one of the most powerful beings on the face of the planet. So, while they provided nothing for their stay, Grimr allowed them sanctuary, and a place in which to quietly exist, apart from the world.
The real issue, however, still remained. Robert had only been to the cluster’s grove once, and that had been so early in his life that he couldn’t remember it. But as luck would have it, he discovered the answer almost immediately as he selected the first section of the forest to examine. It could have been an unconscious choice on his part, guided by the mysterious nature of his markings, or it could have been sheer coincidence. Somehow, he felt it was the first option. He’d always felt at peace in this forest but had never attributed anything to the sensation. Now he had the feeling that he belonged here. There was an unshakable sense that he’d arrived at the place to which he was destined to reach.
“Which is fine and all,” he said quietly, staring at the dense clump of trees and bushes before him, “But how do I get in?”
He’d already tried walking in, thinking that the presence of his markings would reveal the entrance. Alas, there had been no chance in his surroundings. No matter how deep he went into the forest, there was no break to the shrubbery. Not even the slightest game trail, let alone a large clearing filled with otherworldly beings waiting on his aid. Then, when he’d decided to exit and regroup, he’d made the most discerning discovery. Even after traveling for nearly ten minutes in a straight line, the first step back had placed him exactly where he’d started as if he hadn’t moved at all. An illusion, one made to make him think he’d walked a considerable distance without actually going anywhere.
He first thought of trying to dispel the illusion. But he couldn’t, as he didn’t know where its source lay. Not that he was hopeful, of course. He’d never interacted with fae magic before, so he didn’t know how powerful or otherwise it might be. Some magics… reacted when dispelled or countered. The last thing he wanted was to be disabled and delayed in his search for the fae cluster. Still, there were safeguards he could put in place to distract him.
His first attack was several long-range bolts of disruptive magic, deliberately designed to destroy, interfere with, or even just indicate any magic that they collided with. He launched these from more than three hundred feet away from the forest edge. No explosions of magic, no sense of retaliation at all. Nor did it feel as though his mana had collided with anything. The bolts had simply been swallowed by the forest without a trace as if they hadn’t existed in the first place.
“Strange,” he said quietly, moving closer once again. “Do I have to actively dispel it?”
He lifted both hands and let out a gentle but constant wave of mana. He didn’t release his control of it, treating it like a wide blanket. It filled the air in front of him and settled to the ground, encountering nothing but the dormant natural magic that existed within the forest. There were a few creatures that registered on his senses, but they were simple game, the small creatures that called the dark forest their home. Beyond that, the site was barren. And even the small creatures fled at the touch of his mana.
“Strange,” he repeated. Then, deciding to conserve his mana for future attempts and to rest while he thought the problem through, he made a small campsite for himself on the opposite side of the road that came against the forest. There he ate a cold sandwich that had been packed for him by Mandra. Even cold and stuffed in a pack for hours, the roasted meat was delicious, and the peppery cheese created a delicious counterpoint. Not for the first time, he thought that he’d like to eat nothing but Mandra’s cooking for the rest of his life, even if it meant driving himself into poverty. Even the chefs at the College, skilled as they were, couldn’t touch her craft, and they had magic to back them up.
“It behaves like an illusion,” he said, thinking aloud as he scribbled in his notebook with the hand not holding the sandwich. “But there’s no magic present to trigger the illusion.”
He scratched out that last line, writing a new one. “At least, no magic that I can detect.”
There was only one explanation for that, he thought. An Ancient had hidden away the source of the illusion, which meant that only another Ancient could reveal and dispel it. If he could figure out where the enchantment was, invisible or not, he could try to damage it. Ancient or not, runes that formed enchantments had a maximum energy limit. If they were subjected to enough damage, they would disappear, invisible or not. But Robert was the inquisitive type, not destructive, and he had no desire to attract the anger of the druids by throwing powerful spells in random directions at the forest. So he filed that idea away as a potential last resort and finished off the last few bites of the sandwich, chewing while he thought of something new.
“I could ask Samuel for help,” he thought aloud. He didn’t have a link to Samuel’s personal spellstone, but he could contact the office that supported him within the College. The man could offer some insight, even if he’d never met a fae before. He was Arcana’s greatest champion, after all. But something inside him stopped him from pursuing that thought much further. Unless he was sure he couldn’t conquer this problem on his own, he wouldn’t ask for outside help. This problem was personal to him, and he wanted to solve it himself. He hadn’t excelled in his later years at the College and graduated with such good scores by relying on the help of others when things got tough.
“The answer has to be in my markings,” he decided, rising to his feet and pacing back in forth. That spoke to the difficulty of the riddle facing him. He hadn’t been forced to resort to pacing in quite a few years. “If I can just figure out how my markings play into it, then I could find the answer.”
Finally, he felt he had no choice but to pull out his trump card. He activated the runes that lined his scalp, and for good measure, his eyes. Time seemed to slow around him, allowing him to take in new information quickly. Not that there was anything new around him to see, of course. But his brain, already fast as it was, began to move even more quickly, and he leaped through several lines of thought, almost at once, in the space of a few seconds. No source for the illusion meant that he couldn’t dispel it. You can’t counter what you can’t see. That was the first rule of anti-magic. But there was definitely magic there, he decided. There was no other explanation for how he could walk so far into the forest but cover no ground.
He could use the ultimate magical detection spell, Mana Screen, to scour the patch of trees in greater detail. Every blade of grass, every insect crawling upon the ground, and every heartbeat of each animal within thirty yards would become apparent to him then. Yes, that was a good move. As he had no other useful information than a general sense that he was in the right place, he needed to learn more. He came to a halt mid-step and turned to the forest. He was just about to take another step toward the forest when two figures appeared beside him, rising out of the ground without warning.
“Who are you? The taller of them, a man with a broad chest asked. More like shouted. “Why are you violating the sanctity of Lord Longfang’s forest?”
With the runes around his eye and atop his head active, Robert had seen the druids’ arrival as if in slow motion and had seen that they were neither armed nor hostile. True, they had weapons readily within reach, but they were curious as to what his intentions were, not intent on attacking him or chasing him away. He turned to address them directly, noting that they took a step back in shock as they got a good look at him. It was a normal reaction. In this heightened state, he knew his runes would be glowing with an ethereal blue light, and his hair, the roots of which were touched with the bright blue color, would be nearly standing on end.
“I am attempting to find the entrance to a fae cluster,” he explained. “I was summoned, so I’m not invading. Don’t worry, I have no intention of harming the forest or any of the creatures that live inside of it.”
The male druid locked eyes with him for a moment, then turned to glance at his partner. She shook her head slightly. “He’s telling the truth. He has no desire to cause destruction. In fact, it’s the furthest thing from his mind.”
So she could sense his mind and its intentions, he thought. That was a rare gift among the druids of this forest. The man let out a snort of derision. “Maybe he’s not planning on destroying anything, but he’s still trying to gain access to a private area. That’s assuming there actually is a fae cluster here. Nobody knows where they are.”
“Unless one is invited,” Robert said plainly. He lifted his arms to either side, allowing the sleeves of his robes to pull back to reveal more of his markings. “Tell me that you don’t know what these markings are, and what they make me.”
“I know the markings, boy,” the druid replied gruffly. “They make you a Marked One. What of it?”
“Marked Ones are made when a fae touches the mind of a newborn mortal child,” Robert explained, as it was clear the druid didn’t know that fact. “I was created in part by a fae. It just so happens that I was also born in a fae grotto.”
“And you remembered that it was here, at this point of the forest?”
“I didn’t remember,” Robert replied, not bothering to lie, “But I know deep inside that it is here. I’m trying to learn how to gain access.”
The druid continued to stare at him with distrusting eyes. But both he and Robert knew that no laws of nature were being broken here. His magic might not be natural in nature, but it violated no rules or practices. “Very well. I will not deny you entry. But I will be watching you closely, human. Make one wrong move, and the last thing you feel will be the tip of my arrow.”
As if to demonstrate how serious he was, he unslung the bow and nocked an arrow before stalking away, his partner moving after him. She threw a curious glance over her shoulder as they moved down the road, and smiled slightly. Robert ignored the pair of druids, moving closer to the trees and bringing up his Mana Screen again, waiting intently for any sign of something odd. He discovered quickly that using a Mana Screen was not only the right idea but the quickest route to the answer he needed.
Almost at once, he became aware of the illusion. But there was still no discernible source within the forest before or around him. Instead, the source came from himself. It blossomed out just as his Mana Screen had, though it only reached about a dozen feet in front of him. He could see the traces of magic warping the space around him, colliding with something he couldn’t see and pushing him back with each step he took forward. So not only was his hunch about the markings playing a key role in gaining access to the grotto, but they were also what was preventing him access. He looked elsewhere, but nowhere within thirty feet of him could he detect anything new. Letting the Mana Screen and his runes go dormant, he took a step back, ending up on the road once more.
“So that means,” he said slowly, wincing at the slight headache that came with using the runes on his head, “That there’s some mistake with my markings. They are the key, but they’re not quite right.”
All of a sudden, the answer became painfully clear. So clear, in fact, that it rang in his head as the obvious answer, one that he should have arrived at much sooner. If only he’d avoided his typical way of approaching the unknown, he could have come up with the answer long ago and saved himself nearly two hours of brainstorming and tortuous doubt. His markings were the key, but each key had a unique shape. One key that worked for a door wouldn’t work for another. And he knew at once what the shape of this key had to be if it would let him through the door.
Reshaping his markings was a trivial matter, something he could do as easily as breathing. In the time it took him to blink, he’d deformed one of the barrier runes on his spine, shifting the black mark to the center of his forehead and shaping it into a waxing crescent moon. There was no reaction from the forest before him, except perhaps that the feeling of belonging was more intense. He took a hesitant step forward, glancing over his shoulder to see that he’d actually moved forward in space. That was the first step, however. He took another, then glanced back again, curious to see if he’d actually moved.
Except that he was no longer standing at the outer edge of the Dagorra Forest. Rather, he was standing just on the inner edge of a large clearing, with soft green grass underfoot and a chuckling stream of clear water ahead of him, splitting the clearing in half. And all around a campfire set beside that stream were about two dozen figures. Tall, pale, and with a faint ethereal aura around them. Powerful, but in a deceptive way. He’d never met one face-to-face in his life before, but he knew at once that he was looking at members of the fae race. He’d done it. He’d passed through the barrier and was now standing inside their grotto, facing the cluster.
They sensed his arrival at once, of course, and by the time he’d come to understand where he was and who they were, they were already on their feet, peering curiously at him. One figure, in particular, stepped forward, tilting his head slightly as he regarded Robert. “You are the mortal child that Midal marked, aren’t you? It has been many years since I last laid eyes on a mortal, but I do not forget.”
Robert wasn’t sure how to greet a member of a long-lost and forgotten race. Erring on the side of politeness, he offered a polite bow, momentarily breaking eye contact. “I am, yes. My name is Robert Samson. I’m sorry for the delay, I came as quickly as I could.”
“The passing time barely registers within the confines of our grotto,” the elder fae said, stepping forward. “Welcome, child of the fae, to our home. We are pleased to see you return to us whole and strong, and grateful for the help you have agreed to provide us.”
“I’ll do my best,” Robert said uncertainly. “I’m not sure how to stop a threat I’ve never met, but I’m sure I can learn quickly. Where is Midal? I thought he’d be here when I arrived. I’d like to thank him for his gift.”
The Elder waved his hand dismissively. “Midal is gathering food in the fields beyond. He will be most pleased to see you arrive and should return quickly. Come, young child. Rest beside our fire, and we will explain what we can.”

2023.12.15 21:48 Rsubs33 Game Preview: Week 15 The Philadelphia Eagles (10-2) vs Seattle Seahawks (6-7)

Philadelphia Eagles (10-3) vs Seattle Seahawks (6-7)
Back to Back ugly losses for the Eagles as they took another one on the chin from the division rival Cowboys. The entire team performed poorly outside of the special teams who continue to be one of the highlights on the team. However in back to back weeks no one wanted to tackle on defense and the offense continued to look anemic while also turning the ball over three times with all three being fumbles. The players were not the only problem though, once again the gameplan looked like something your little brother cooked up calling Madden plays. The run game was once again abandoned after the first few drives and as was the intermediate passing game. It is almost like Johnson and Sirianni see what is working and then get bored and start calling shot plays. On defense the Eagles initial gameplan was not good, but they were able to force a turnover and a couple punts in the second half while holding the Cowboys to three long FGs despite the Eagles offense having 2 turnovers, a turnover on downs and a 3 and out in the half. This Eagles team looks like the Eagles with cable this season compared to the DirectTV Eagles we got last season. They will need to be better this week if they hope to win the division this season, while the Seahawks have struggled recently they are still a good football team who have played opponents tough in their losses. And the corners will be tested once again this week as they try to contain DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. On offense, the Eagles need to get out of their own way, they can’t turn the ball over like they have this season and Brian Johnson needs to figure out that not everything needs to be a shot play, use Julio Jones more on slants and curls, use AJ brown more on slants, work in some intermediate and short out routes get Jalen confident. And run the dang ball to make the play action more effective, they should also be utilizing motion way more to help Jalen out on his reads. This coaching staff needs to be better especially on offense where they are coasting on the talent of the players. If the Eagles can put it together they should be able to pull out a win this week against the Seahawks. Go Birds!

Seahawks 23 - Eagles 17
The Eagles returned home to face the Seattle Seahawks behind closed doors. Philadelphia entered the game winless against Seattle in the Russell Wilson era with an 0–5 record. After a scoreless first quarter, the Seahawks would jump to a 14-point lead on touchdowns by David Moore and Chris Carson. A drive led by Carson Wentz at the end of the first half would put the Eagles on the board, but the Seahawks would not relinquish their lead for the remainder of the game. A garbage time Hail Mary from Wentz to Richard Rodgers II pulled the Eagles within 6 points, but the Seahawks recovered the ensuing onside kick to seal Philadelphia's third straight loss. This touchdown would be Wentz's last in an Eagles uniform. The Eagles fell to 3–7–1 on the season, 0–6 against Russell Wilson, 0–7 against Pete Carroll, and 0–6 at Lincoln Financial Field against the Seahawks with the 23–17 loss.

Philadelphia is tied with Baltimore, Dallas and San Francisco for the best record (10-3) in the NFL. The Eagles have either held or shared the top mark in the league every week dating back to Week 1 of 2022.
Since 2022, Philadelphia owns an NFL-leading 24-6 record (.800). That is the 2nd-most victories over a two-year period in franchise history, trailing only the 2003-04 seasons under Andy Reid (.781, 25-7).
Nick Sirianni is 33-14 with the Eagles, marking the highest regular season winning percentage (.702) by a head coach in team history. Since 2021, Sirianni is tied for the 3rd-best winning percentage in the NFL, behind Andy Reid (.723, 34-13) and Mike McCarthy (.723, 34-13).
Philadelphia has won 10+ games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2013-14. The Eagles are aiming to reach 11+ wins in consecutive years for the third time in franchise history, having previously done so under Andy Reid (2000-04) and Dick Vermeil (1979-80).
Nick Sirianni is the only head coach in Eagles history to win 9+ games during each of their first three seasons with the team.
Since 2021, Philadelphia has registered the highest road winning percentage (.750, 18-6) in the NFL. The last time the Eagles won 18+ away games in a three-year span was under Andy Reid from 2002-04.
Philadelphia is 14-3 (.824) over its previous 17 road contests.
Among teams with at least 7 primetime games since 2022, the Eagles rank 1st with an .800 primetime winning percentage (8-2). Philadelphia is 3-1 on Monday Night Football over the last two seasons, which includes a 2-0 record in Monday Night Football away games.
The Eagles average the 6th-most points per game (26.3) in the NFL, trailing only Dallas (32.4), Miami (31.6), San Francisco (29.2), Baltimore (27.8) and Buffalo (26.8). Philadelphia also ranks 3rd in drive score efficiency (43.8%) and 5th in points per drive (2.38) and offensive EPA (42.9).
On third and fourth down combined, the Eagles lead the league with a 50.3% conversion percentage. Overall, Philadelphia ranks 3rd in third down offense (47.7%) and 1st in fourth-down offense (71.4%).
The Eagles are tied for the 3rd-most first downs per game (22.3) in the NFL, behind Dallas (23.4) and Buffalo (22.5) in that category.
Jalen Hurts ranks 2nd in the NFL with 31 total TDs, trailing only Josh Allen (35). Hurts is 1 rushing TD shy of tying his Eagles QB record (13 in 2022) and needs 2 rushing TDs to tie Cam Newton’s NFL QB record (14 in 2011). He is also 3 passing TDs away from matching his career high (22 in 2022) and with 4 total TDs he would repeat his franchise record (35 in 2022 – shared with Randall Cunningham in 1990).
D’Andre Swift has produced the 4th-most rushing yards (822) in the league, behind Christian McCaffrey (1,177), Raheem Mostert (924) and Derrick Henry (875). He has hit 1,000+ scrimmage yards (1,030) for the second time in his career (also 1,069 with Detroit in 2021).
A.J. Brown owns the 2nd-most receiving yards (1,258) in the NFL, with only Tyreek Hill (1,542) ahead of him. Brown, who is the only player in team history with 1,200+ receiving yards in back-to-back years (career-high 1,496 in 2022), is tied with Terrell Owens (2004) for the most 100+ yard receiving games (7) in Eagles single-season history.
Brown also ranks 5th in the league with a career-high 90 receptions. He is tied for the 3rd-most catches in single-season franchise history, behind Zach Ertz in 2018 (116) and DeVonta Smith in 2022 (95).
DeVonta Smith (907) is 93 receiving yards shy of his second straight 1,000+ yard campaign. Dating back to Week 8, Smith ranks 8th in the NFL with a team-leading 524 yards while adding 4 TD catches.
Haason Reddick ranks T-10th in the NFL with a team-high 11.0 sacks, marking his fourth consecutive season with double-digit sacks as well as his third straight year with 11.0+ QB takedowns. Reddick is just the seventh player in Eagles history to produce 10.0+ sacks in back-to- back seasons, joining Reggie White (eight, 1985-92), Trent Cole (three, 2009-11), Dennis Harrison (three, 1982-84), William Fuller (two, 199596), Clyde Simmons (two, 1991-92), and Greg Brown (two, 1984-85).
Josh Sweat ranks 4th in the NFL with a career-high 67 pressures, trailing only Micah Parsons (81), Josh Allen (77) and Nick Bosa (76). Sweat holds the second most fourth-quarter pressures (26) as well.
Fletcher Cox has recorded 2.5 sacks and 1 FF in his last 2 games.
Jalen Carter has totaled 39 pressures, 27 tackles (16 solo), 7 QB hits, 4.0 sacks, 2 FFs and 1 FR returned for a TD as a rookie.
Since Week 8, Philadelphia ranks 6th in the NFL in special teams EPA (10.9), behind Arizona (27.4), L.A. Chargers (22.7), New Orleans (17.5), Cincinnati (14.4) and Tampa Bay (13.4) in that category.

Braden Mann ranks among the top punters in the NFL in gross average (48.9, 10th) and net average (43.0, 9th). Since Week 7, Mann ranks 4th in gross average (51.1), behind Ryan Stonehouse (54.2), A.J. Cole (51.8) and Corey Bojorquez (51.8), and 7th in net average (44.1).
Britain Covey has produced the 3rd-best punt return average (14.2) in the NFL, trailing only Derius Davis (16.6) and Rashid Shaheed (14.4). Covey also leads the league with 6 punt returns of 20+ yards.

Matchups to Watch
Seahawks WRs vs the Eagles Secondary
The Eagles secondary has looked old and slow this season and has had trouble with pretty much every WR they have faced, which is good when the Seahawks have two good ones and a talented rookie. Now the Eagles have faced a lot of high powered offenses of late, which will not be the case this weekend where the Seahawks rank 15th in passing and 20th overall. Smith did miss the Seahawks last game, but is trending towards playing so the Seahawks should have their full arsenal on offense. The secondary needs to figure things out and communicate better and stick with their guys or these WRs have the ability to take the ball to the house for the score and it could be another week of playing catchup for the Eagles offense. The Eagles specifically have to be careful with Metcalf who has been punishing the Eagles for passing him in and picking JJAW over in him 2019. He has. In three career games against the Eagles, Metcalf has 20 catches for 372 yards and 1 TD and has been hot of late, almost beating the Cowboys by himself in week 13.
Dallas Goedert vs Jamal Adams
The Eagles have ignored the short and intermediate passing game, but I think they need to get it going this week with Dallas Goedert who has been underutilized this season. Goedert has a matchup against Jamal Adams who was absolutely roasted by Jake Ferguson in their matchup for the Cowboys. Goedert has the same athletic ability and size as Ferguson if they Eagles coaching staff want to highlight him. Ferguson had 6 receptions for 77 yards and a TD, mainly with Adams covering him most the game and Adams is the one who surrendered the touchdown. Hurts has been having a few bad games in a row and could use some easy passes to the TE to get his confidence back and get into a rhythm. Goedert needs to be involved in this offense and give it some balance.
Eagles defenders vs this inability to tackle
The Eagles have struggled with tackling the last few weeks, and sort of the season as any DB not named Blankenship has avoided contact. The Eagles defense needs to figure out how to gang tackle and get to the football. Their run defense has struggled the last few weeks averaging giving up 156.3 yards per game since week 11. They need to figure out what is going on and wrap up and they will need to do it against two power running backs in Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet in the backfield. Both of these running backs are threats to run after contact and break tackles. Walker has 11 broken tackles on the season and Charbonnet has 9. The Eagles need to get to the ball as a team and wrap up. Both the runners are down hill runners which does work to the Eagles advantage as opposed to the horizontal running game of San Fran, but this is week 15 and the coaching staff needs to get this team ready to play or they will be one and done in the playoffs.
The Eagles Coaching Staff vs Themselves
This was my final matchup last week and once against the Eagles coaching staff came up short, it was another poorly coached game on both sides marred with turnovers, poor decisions and poor play calling. I will give the Specials Team coaching staff a pass as the Special Teams Unit played lights out and has all season. Defensively they had a terrible gameplan, but to their credit there were adjustments made at half time where the Eagles held Dallas to a 3 and out, forced a fumble they returned for a TD and held Dallas to three long FGs despite the offense turning the ball over twice in the half and giving it away on downs. The offense was another embarrassment though with a bad game plan, bad play calling and even worse execution. This staff is relying too much on the talent on the roster and not doing enough with their schemes to help the players out. They need to be better. This game plan offensively should be run heavy against a bad Seattle rush defense which has allowed 4.4 YPA (24th) and 17 TD(29th). This is a game where the Eagles should activate Penny and give him a shot over the ineffective Gainwell to split carries with Swift and Swift needs to be featured often. And in the passing games they need to work the short and intermediate routes and work the middle of the field. Defensively this team needs to communicate in the secondary and gang tackle and most of all get off the field on 3rd downs. If the coaching staff fails this team three weeks in a row and does not adjust from their failures I don’t see this team getting far in the playoffs.

2023.11.07 21:53 AslandusTheLaster Thanataia, Tales of Death II: Tiberius' Folly

Original prompt: [WP] The Hero's Party is stunned when their most mysterious member admits they always knew they wouldn't survive the end; that they'd end up dying to ensure the quest/Hero would succeed. The Party doesn't know how to handle this revelation, and the tranquil acceptance of death horrifies them... (link)
Our journey had brought us to Hamar's grotto, but the sun was getting low and we still weren't close enough to see the town. Without more robust knowledge of the area, we decided it would be best to start setting up camp.
I began collecting downed limbs for our tent while Maggie was busy collecting wood for the fire. Galarius immediately set out to see what he could forage and/or hunt to supplement our supplies. Henry, meanwhile, sat down and started looking through a book he'd inexplicably brought with him.
"Henry? Buddy? Not to tip your hand, but we are kind of trying to set up camp here," I said. "Also, didn't I say to bring essentials? Why did you pack that?"
"Well, what's more essential than the script?" Henry asked, peering at me and waving the book in the air.
"Script? Actually, belay that, can you just pitch in and help set up camp?" I asked.
"I mean, you guys probably have it pretty well in hand," Henry said. "After all, I'm supposed to be dead."
"Wha- Supposed to be dead?" I asked. "What in the blazes are you on about?"
"Yeah, remember when those bandits attacked the village? I was supposed to get tragically shot with an arrow, which would inspire your quest for revenge... But, you know, Galarius managed to outflank the archers before they really started raining arrows down on us, so that didn't happen," Henry said.
"...Okay, sure, but what does that have to do with you sitting around instead of... you know, going to collect water, driving a stake or two in for pitching the tent... You know, something?" I asked.
"Well, if I'm not supposed to be here then surely you can handle setting up camp with only the three of you," Henry said.
"Henry, I love ya bud, but if you want to keep traveling with us you need to pitch in," I said.
"Very well," Henry said. He stood up, cracked his knuckles, and made a series of gestures. In lieu of just looking silly, his hands seemed to emit sparks, which floated out and swept through the area, quickly creating a pile of firewood, three fully set tents, a fire pit surrounded by logs shaped to be used as seats complete with a smoking rack, cooking pot tripod, and roasting spit, as well as a hammock strung between two trees.
"Wait, hold on, you know magic?" I asked. "Did you never think to mention this before?"
"Wake me up when dinner's ready," Henry said, climbing into the hammock.
"Henry? Henry!" I said, walking over and reaching out toward him. His hammock grew a set of spider legs and crawled up the tree to a spot just out of reach before I made contact. "...Okay, that's just kind of disturbing..."
"Wow Tibs, you got this place set up fast," Maggie said, tossing the handful of sticks she'd collected onto the firewood pile. "And where did we get these tents? They look much nicer than the one we were using yesterday."
"You'll have to ask Henry. Henry!" I shouted up at the now inconveniently high hammock.
A small sign swung over the side of the hammock, which read "do not disturb until dinner".
"...Right," I said. I headed over and sat next to the fire pit, warming my hands next to the already-burning fire. I hung a cooking pot off the tripod and tossed in a few travel biscuits, a bit of salt, and some water to get a base going for stewing up whatever Galarius managed to scrounge up.
"So... how much further do we have before we reach town?" Maggie asked.
"I don't know. I assumed we'd be there by now, but that merchant's directions only said the town would be 'in the grotto', so the only real clue I've got is that we'll have gone too far if we leave the other side without finding it," I said. "For all I know, it might be right over the next hill and we could be sleeping in actual beds tonight if we'd kept going, but better safe than sorry."
"I can confirm that much isn't true, at least. The next hill's just got more woods behind it," Maggie said.
We sat and stared into the fire for a minute or two before Galarius arrived, carrying two skinned rabbits and a satchel of edible wild plants. He quickly chopped the meat and vegetables into... well, not quite bite sized, but reasonably cook-able chunks, before tossing them into the pot. As the sun set, the smells coming from the pot went from "slightly bready steam" to "probably food".
"Henry, food's ready," I called toward the hammock.
"Excellent," Henry said, now inexplicably sitting on the log opposite me despite not visibly having left the hammock.
"Whoa, how'd you get there so fast, Henry?" Maggie asked.
"Quick little guy, aren't ya?" Galarius said.
"As if I'd miss one of your lovely stews," Henry said.
"Would you mind telling us what you're up to? I still haven't gotten any explanation for anything that you've done in the past two hours," I said.
"What's to explain? We've got camp set up, I'm supposed to be dead, and we're still inexplicably stalling on this scene," Henry said. He turned to peek at the forest behind him. "Which I assume means the stagehands are still working on the next set. Hurry up, guys! The audience is getting bored!"
"Audience? Stagehands? What on earth are you talking about?" I asked. "And why do you keep saying you're meant to be dead?"
"I mean, technically we're all dead. This adventure happened hundreds of years ago, this is just a play based on it," Henry said. He looked over at Galarius. "Isn't that right, Jeremy?"
"What in the world are you talking about?" Galarius asked.
"Come on Jeremy, we carpooled on the way to the theater, don't pretend you don't know," Henry said. He turned toward the clearing we'd walked in from and said, "You guys know what's up, right? Classic story of tragedy spiraling into a cycle of revenge that ultimately results in thousands of deaths?" He waited for a moment before saying, "Yeah, they know."
"Wait, thousands of deaths? That seems pretty dire, shouldn't we, you know, not do that?" I asked.
"I mean, it's the story. I'd say spoilers, but it's a famous old myth so everyone knows the basics already. That said, it's not too late to turn this into a sci-fi reimagining if you want," Henry said, pulling what appeared to be a handheld metal tool covered in glowing glass beads. "Pew pew, zap 'em good."
"What the fuck are you talking about?" Maggie asked.
Henry opened his mouth to speak, then glanced into the forest behind us. I looked back to see that nobody was there, but he still said, "Okay, the director is making a lot of gestures toward his neck, I think maybe I'm talking too much."
"...So if you're some sort of actor, and you know the whole script, what happens next?" I asked.
"Well, we're supposed to be going to the town of Darian Woods to track down the mastermind of the attack on our village, but since we're already passing through the grotto you decide to take a small detour to visit Mt. Chiron to commune with my spirit. I guess we won't be doing that since I'm still alive, so we might have to ad-lib later since we won't be traveling on the road those highwaymen are guarding, which means Maggie won't get mortally wounded and thus won't need to be rushed to the nearest temple where the treatment will fail and she ends up dying anyway," Henry said.
"I don't want to die!" Maggie said.
"I mean, you did say it was a pain in the butt finding a babysitter willing to watch your sister this late at night, so getting to go home early might not be the worst fate," Henry said. "Actually, no, you'd still have to stick around play the goddess of fate in the third act, and even without that you'd have to stay for the final sendoff anyway... Come to think of it, it's probably for the best that we don't have to visit the temple given that I'm supposed to play the head priest as well, which I can't do if I'm still playing Henry."
"Okay, I think I've heard enough for one night," I said. "Anything else we want to decide before we dig into this stew and turn in for the night?"
"Actually yes," Henry said. "I think the costuming department might have skimped on your getup, would you like one of these t-shirts? The merch department wants us to push them more anyway," Henry said, summoning a shower of magic sparks that coalesced into a tightly-tailored tunic with impractically small sleeves and a logo printed on the front in some sort of shiny ink, which he offered to me. The logo included my face, along with those of Maggie and Galarius, and the words "Thanataia, Tales of Death II: Tiberius' Folly" written in a strange font.
"I mean, I guess walking around bare-chested is getting a little embarrassing..." I said, putting on the shirt. It was a little abrasive against my bare skin, but it was probably better than walking around topless.
"That might actually draw more attention when we get back to civilized society," Galarius said. "But enough talk, let's eat! Odds are we've got a full day of hiking ahead of us tomorrow, so we should try to be up bright and early!"

2023.10.27 00:37 micronesiarain Episode 8- "The Roast of Chitownbreeze" 🔥🌬️

Episode 8-
the queens return to the workroom after the seventh challenge and see the results from the previous challenge displayed on a large monitor
Kami: Ooh, would you look at that?
🏁 Kami CF: We're back in the workroom and the first thing I see is a big SAFE next to my name. But it doesn't end there, of course it doesn't. I also was blocked...by a website. Can you feel me aggressively blinking right now?
Nikky: Winner winner! Back to back, y'all bitches could never!
Karte: Couldn't we?
Nikky: Never while looking this good.
🏁 Nikky CF: When you are eliminated and come back into the competition, your only option is to win as much as possible. And right now, I truly could not be doing any better. A couple more wins and I know that crown is mine.
Karte: So...how y'all doin'?
...
...
Lisbon: I'm fine.
Karte: Cheers to doing fine! I think we should talk about the challenge.
Zodya: Should we?
Karte: Well yes, I believe so!
🏁 Karte CF: I finally get to be part of an MDR ball, and this is the reception I get? Everyone is so mopey, it's depressing. But honestly, shoutout to them for being confident enough to think they had a chance. Like Ru said, in my dreams! Something like that, something delusional, I don't know.
Karte: The critiques overall felt very positive for everyone. Does anyone think they got feedback that was unwarranted?
Nikky: They could've been a little nicer to me.
Kami: Girl, you won.
Nikky: I know, right?
Zodya: I probably could've done without being compared to a house in my second look.
Karte: Oh yeah, I don't know who would ever say something like that.
🏁 Karte CF: I'm so jealous I didn't think of that first.
Slerna: To be fair, I think there are a lot of ways you can take that. It could be a really pretty house, open concept, good views.
Zodya: I have a feeling that that isn't what Contessa meant.
🏁 Zodya CF: My looks during the ball were honestly three of my favorite looks I've ever made. It keeps happening where I have these weeks that I feel really good about, and then the judging is a totally different story. The way I see it, my chances of escaping this next elimination are very slim.
Zodya: What was really hard for me was that it felt like certain people were so sure of how they did, and I wanted to be the one to overcome that and prove that I could beat them.
Karte: Hmm. That's a neat observation.
Zodya: And it's really nothing against you, I just feel like what I did was my very best, and I think we've seen better from you.
Karte: Okay.
Zodya: Not to say you didn't do well, but looking at the past, I was intrigued.
Karte: Yeah.
🏁 Karte CF: You know you're the top bitch when the only comparison people can make is to you from a week ago.
Karte: I feel very confident when it comes to my look package. The same way you all might feel confident in other challenges. I'm still waiting to see that, but I'm sure you're good at something...probably. I knew that if I gave my best, it would be enough to win the challenge, regardless of who I was going against. My success here is not relying on anyone doing poorly.
Kami: But you are quick to make sure someone stays down.
Karte: You need to blame that one on the worldwide web, I'm sorry.
Kami: There are people here with three wins, and you come after the one with a single win? I just don't see how you could see that as a smart move.
Lisbon: Well hold on now, I don't know if she needed to block someone with three wins, that might not be what the world needs right now.
Zodya: Goodbye.
🏁 Lisbon CF: I was completely shocked when Karte blocked Kami instead of me. I don't think she wants to admit that she sees me as the threat that I am.
Kami: I'm sorry if this is dramatic, but I was so set on wanting to do well in these last few challenges, and it feels like you took that opportunity away from me.
Karte: I can promise you, that really was not my intention. But I do feel like I need to defend myself here. Whether I blocked you last week or not, you were still safe. Not based on what I did, but based on what the judges thought. So I can't completely take the blame for this. If you had really shown up and won, you wouldn't have even been eligible to be blocked.
Kami: Whatever.
🏁 Kami CF: The longer this competition goes on, the more I feel my spirit breaking. I started off feeling a little shaky, then got a boost of confidence in the middle, and now I'm right back to where I started. It's embarrassing to feel like while everyone else is competing for the crown, I'm trying to cling onto maybe being fifth place.
Karte: I do want to say that I can see how this is impacting you, and it hurts to see you like this. Whether or not we can see eye to eye on this, I am truly sorry if I hurt you.
Kami: Thank you. I'm just really struggling right now to keep it all together.
Lisbon: We're here for you.
Slerna: Most of us are here for you. I most likely will not be, but that's just because I'll be at the hotel pool. But you are welcome to come splish splash with me if you need me to be with you.
🏁 Slerna CF: I'm trying to find out if I'll grow webbed toes after swimming long enough. We're not there yet, but I can see the vision. I think the next logical step is finding a colony of frogs to accept me as one of their own, and maybe that will be the magical moment.
Lisbon: Slerna, how are you feeling about the critiques?
Slerna: Wouldn't you like to know...
Lisbon: I would!
Slerna: I wish the judges were able to appreciate the impact of my jeans look. It meant so much to me.
Lisbon: Did you make that one yourself?
Slerna: No, but I did steal it from a little girl at the park. She was all "noooo give it back!!", such an over reaction, be for real.
Zodya: I know it was a big step for you to do a more natural look, how are you feeling about it?
Slerna: I don't know what you're talking about.
Slerna sits in her giant cake costume
Zodya: That second look, you would not have worn something like that earlier in the season.
Slerna: Are you implying I couldn't fit in it earlier? Oh wow, and I thought you were an ally.
Zodya: Slerna...
Slerna: Okay, fine. It was not the most comfortable experience to be naturally stunning like that, but it was something I needed to do. I was bummed it didn't go over as well as I wanted, but I can't give them taste. I got arrested last time I tried to do that.
🏁 Slerna CF: The more I try and put myself out there and show a more real side of who I am, the scores from the judges are going down, down, down. But I know that I came here for myself, and to show what I can do. I would rather lose as myself than win as this character, that's where I'm at right now.
Karte: Can I give you some advice?
Slerna: If it's about makeup, I really don't think you're qualified.
Karte: The creativity you have as an alien, you can still apply it to these more natural looks. It doesn't need to be one or the other.
Slerna: You mean I can actually find a healthy balance and not have to water down my ideas to be basic like everyone else?! Oh wow, I would've never thought of that!
🏁 Slerna CF: Like...duh? Knock knock, is anyone home?!
The Next Day
the queens enter the workroom as a group and gather around a table
🏁 Nikky CF: It's a new day in the workroom and I am on top of the world right now. I always saw myself making it this far, but I did not think my journey would look anything like this. I feel too pretty to be an underdog, so this is uncharted territory.
Kami: How did everyone sleep?
Slerna: I didn't <3
Zodya: If I could just say something really quick.
Nikky: Here we go Miss Hallmark.
Zodya: Once I had time to process not winning the ball, I realized that I may have gone a tiny bit overboard with how I was acting last night. Karte, you know you're pretty, so I won't apologize to you.
Karte: Thank you.
Zodya: Lisbon, I really am sorry for what went down in Untucked. I was in my feelings, and whoever said something in that moment, it would've set me off. It had nothing to do with you or your looks.
Lisbon: I appreciate the apology. I was caught off guard, I must admit. I didn't really foresee myself being screamed at while dressed as Marsha P. Johnson, but at least I can check that off my bucket list now.
Zodya: It was a beautiful look, and I really hope anything I said doesn't take away from that.
Lisbon: Thank you, now make sure you tweet that during the episode, I don't need your army of fans to come after me.
Karte: I think you'll be good.
🏁 Karte CF: "Army" implies that there are more than four people, just keeping it real!
the workroom door swings open and Micro walks in wearing a denim jumpsuit with oversized visible stitching
Micro: Hello, hello!
the queens run over to Micro. Except for Slerna...she walks
Micro: We are so close to the end of the competition, I can't believe it.
Kami: I can!
Micro: With how hard you've all been working, I think it's time we let off a little steam. And I don't think there's a better way to do that than with puppets!
🏁 Zodya CF: Ahh, the puppet challenge! This is always a sign of making it to the end of the season, and it turns out more traumatizing every single time. And I've got a little bit of a reputation to maintain. I'm currently undefeated when it comes to this mini challenge, so I am more than ready to use that glue gun and smash some dreams.
Micro: Each of you will be randomly assigned a puppet version of one of your fellow competitors. And as you may notice, they're looking a little different this time. Still scary, but now with snatched waists! You'll each be given time to drag up these puppets and then come together to put on a puppet show of legendary status. Get ready...go!
sequins and feathers fly up in the air as the queens look around for materials
🏁 Karte CF: Thank you for giving me lots of material to work with last night!
🏁 Lisbon CF: I may have gotten a little derailed along the way and entered Shrek territory, but we're making it work!
Legendary Puppet Show
Read the puppet show here!
-----------------------------
Micro: Thank you ladies! The puppet show was just as traumatizing as I hoped it would be!
🏁 Slerna CF: You're very welcome.
Micro: The winner of this mini challenge is...Zodya Killer!
Zodya: Another one, thank you!
🏁 Zodya CF: I have found my calling with these puppet shows! And I know it'll take me places. I don't know where those places are, but I will be taken there!
Micro: With that out of the way, it's time to get started with your next challenge. We are paying homage to the daughter I desperately tried to abort, mother to rats, and the friend nobody deserves. You are all invited to the Roast of Chitownbreeze!
🏁 Nikky CF: Not this bitch...
Micro: You've all had the chance to meet Chi when she was hosting the red carpet events for the finale of our past seasons. And I'm letting her out of the basement for you all to make fun of her! And as the winner of the mini challenge, Zodya will be in charge of determining the order of the roast.
Zodya taps her fingers together in a very schemey and plotting-licious way
Micro: I will leave you to it, good luck!
Micro exits the workroom and rushes home to get Chitownbreeze out of the basement
the queens gather around the couches as Zodya assigns the order of roasters
🏁 Zodya CF: So this is the place that my puppet skills have taken me to! Roasting isn't a major strength of mine, but sabotage is. The goal is to not only give myself the best spot, but make sure everyone else is set up to fail. Oh, this is glorious!
Slerna: Be kind to us.
Zodya: Should I borrow one of your looks before I announce the order?
Slerna: Oh naur.
Zodya: I'll go ahead and start with myself, I will be roasting last. Does anyone have any preference on when they go?
Karte: Somewhere in the middle.
Nikky: Same.
Lisbon: Mhm.
Zodya: Well, you can't all go in the middle!
🏁 Zodya CF: Everyone always wants to go in the middle, is the math not mathing?
Zodya: Lisbon, I'll put you first.
🏁 Lisbon CF: And the fake niceties have already come to an end.
Zodya: Then Nikky, then Karte. And then we will do Slerna and Kami, and then I'll close the show.
Kami: Very interesting.
🏁 Kami CF: I think the process of picking the roast order can be very telling. Zodya had the chance to put herself anywhere, and she wants to go right after me? It does feel a bit like she wanted to put the weakest link right before her to make her seem even better.
the queens split into pairs and move to different sections of the workroom
Karte and Slerna talk by the couches as they write material for the roast
🏁 Slerna CF: This week is the roast of Chitownbreeze! And I am just as confused about who she is as you are. This should be an interesting experience, very interesting.
Karte: Is this your second roast here?
Slerna: My first! I was abducted about an hour before the roast on Season Six.
Karte: Right, right.
🏁 Karte CF: I'm really worried about going right before Slerna in the lineup. She has the ability to be funny, and this might be a strong week for her. I can't let her outshine me.
Slerna: If one of us ends up in the top, is there a person you had in mind as far as blocking goes?
Karte: Probably Kami again for the giggles. Jk! I haven't thought that far honestly.
Slerna: I want to see Lisbon blocked. I really think she could get cut as long as she isn't immune.
Karte: Really?
Slerna: She's won a lot, but look at the weeks where she didn't win. The consistency isn't there.
Karte: You might've spilled there, hold on.
Slerna: See, I can have big thoughts when I need to!
🏁 Karte CF: My ears perked all the way up when Slerna mentioned going after Lisbon. Whether Lisbon has three wins, ten wins, zero wins, it is always a good day to target her. I don't like seeing her immune at every elimination, it doesn't fit her. Me on the other hand, I think I actually look best when I'm standing at the back of the stage posing all cute with my banjos. Even just saying that, it felt so right.
Karte: Before we get there, how are you feeling about your jokes so far?
Slerna: The more I look at them, the less sure I am about them. I think they're funny enough?
Karte: Can I take a look?
Slerna: Yes, just don't rip the page up and throw it in the trash.
Karte: ...I will do my best not to!
Karte looks through Slerna's jokes as her eyes quickly dart across the page
Slerna: Why aren't you laughing yet?
Karte: Oh! Uh, it's a condition. This is...this is so hilarious!
Slerna: Really?
Karte: It is so funny that I almost forgot to laugh. You killed it.
🏁 Karte CF: Killed something. Suddenly I'm feeling much better about my chances of not being outdone by Slerna. But my mouth is zipped, I'll just keep telling her it's the funniest thing since Micro's childhood as a dinosaur babysitter. You go girl!
Kami and Zodya have a discussion by the mirrors about their places in the competition
🏁 Zodya CF: I have zero time to waste this week. I have placed in the bottom of every roast I've done on MDR, but unlike those times, I can't save myself now.
Kami: Did not think I'd end up near the bottom of the pack with you, but here we are.
Zodya: Indeed. There has to be an elimination soon, and it'll probably happen tonight.
Kami: I was thinking the same thing.
Zodya: I'm not ready to go. I feel so proud of what I've been able to bring. I want to make it to that finale so badly.
Kami: Nobody wants this more than you. You do know that, right?
Zodya: That's how I feel, but the banjos are not representing that.
Kami: If it is us going next, I just want to say that it meant a lot to share this journey with you.
Zodya: It was so special. But it's not over yet, and you need to keep your head in the competition. There's a chance we make it through this.
Kami: Just don't want to get my hopes up, that's all. And if there's some way that only one person has to go home, I think the best thing for me to do is step away.
Zodya: What?!
Kami: You want this so badly. Everyone wants this so badly. I know this isn't my time, and last night was the first time I really felt peace about that.
Zodya: I don't want you to throw away this opportunity.
Kami: I've gotten more from this than a crown could ever give me, and I really mean that.
Zodya: But you've put the work in, you deserve to still be here.
🏁 Kami CF: I feel like I am officially entering my final act. I won't quit, that's not who I am. I just know that the next time an elimination comes, I should be the one going home. I could never forgive myself if I took this spot away from someone who really wanted it.
Kami: You have everything it takes to win this, even if you can't always see that yourself. There is no better ending to this story than you leaving with the crown.
Zodya: Kami, you're really about to make me cry. And I have shed more than enough tears in this room!
🏁 Zodya CF: I wish I could change her mind, but it seems like she's made her decision. But what she said about me coming out of this victorious, it motivates me to annihilate the rest of this competition. For so long, I wanted to win to prove it to myself and show that I can do it. But it's bigger than that now, it's bigger than just me. There are a lot of people who relate to my story, and I'm doing this for them.
Lisbon and Nikky sit together around a small table, rarely exchanging any words
🏁 Lisbon CF: It's been 84 years since I last won a challenge. Not really, but it's starting to feel like that. I feel like I started off so strong here, and it's slowly hit a wall. I think I'm still doing well, but the incoming flow of banjos needs to pick back up.
Nikky: Well, what's up?
Lisbon: I feel like we've barely been able to see each other this season.
Nikky: Right? It's been so amazing. Do you think you could do well this week?
Lisbon: I've had varying levels of success in roasts, so it's up in the air. I've been in the bottom for one, and then won the other. Thankfully, everyone has tried me so much this season, I have a lot of feelings to pull from. How are you feeling?
Nikky: I know how to insult people, not super worried about that. I'm just crunching the numbers in my head, and I've basically come to the conclusion that I need to at least be in the upper half of everyone in order to survive an elimination.
🏁 Nikky CF: I don't have enough banjos to be immune, my placements early on were a little shaky, it is a total uphill battle to survive to next week.
Lisbon: Even if the reasons are different, I can tell we both want the win this week, so let's go get it.
Nikky: Yep! You will make a lovely 3rd/4th once I win!
Runway
a pale pink glow illuminates the stage as a cloud of fog envelops the entrance, before Micro breaks through and struts down the center
Micro Episode 8 Look
Micro: Welcome back to the runway of Micro's Drag Race: Legends! This week, the queens were tasked with roasting my sweet daughter, Chitownbreeze. And now that we have armed security at every exit, let's bring her out!
Chi Guest Look
Micro: Chi, my darling.
Chi whispers "hello"
Micro: You can speak up now, we're on the TV!
Chi: I speak now?
Micro: Much better, much better. Ready to get this roast fired up?
Chi: Is that like when you don't turn the AC on during the summer?
Micro: Uh...next question! I promise that Chi is very well taken care of.
Chi: Okayyyyyy!
Micro: Before the police show up, let's get into it! It is officially time for the Roast of Chitownbreeze.

Micro: Category is..."Life in Plastic: Barbiecore"!
"Bad Juju" by Jujubee plays
Kami: It's Barbie bitch x3! For my Barbie look I am a Barbie dreamhouse come to life! I think this look is kind of subtle and you have to think on it to really understand that it's Barbie you know?
Kami Look
Karte: Hi Barbie! For this week’s runway, I wanted to really play up with the fun girly simplicity we see in the regular Barbie dolls, specially circa 2010s to me. Serving you cunty, fish fresh off the sea, Barbie doll shenanigans REALNESS. With the huuge plastic accessories and played with hair to give a campy turn to the look to really elevate the concept of a doll. The little flowers to give it a freshness and a immediate GIRLY feel to it, working perfectly with the colors to invoke that. Using little details like the by the chunky pink plastic molded jewelry and shoes we see in so many Barbie Dolls. They’re something you play with and mess with even a little, and this Barbie is a Hairstylist, baby! It doesn’t always have to be perfect, but it’s fun, it’s girly, it’s Barbie!
Karte Look
Lisbon: THIS IS BARBIE DREAMHOUSE TO A TEE LIKE THIS SHIT IS SO CUNT YOU BITCHES DINT EVEN KNOW. I literally used the dream houses as a reference so like...cunt.
Lisbon Look
Nikky: This Barbie forgot to wash her ass! In barbie land there is always a princess! And that I am! The name is Barbie! Dripping in pink, animals flying next to me as I make every step, blonde obvi! And trust me this barbie is ready to get a bigger crown!
Nikky Look
Slerna: Slerna arrives at the runway looking relaxed and rejuvenated she glides with her big robe and her toweled up hair... what's under there? She spins big and reveals into her new swimsuit Barbie beauty
Slerna: I'm serving cute pink princess going for a dive in a red40 and milk white pool! Stay away, because I probably have cancer, and I heard aliens are contagious with every illness...
Slerna: She walks with her flippers and goggles, and makes swimming motions with her arms. When she gets back to the end of the runway, she dives out the doorway. She's wetter than y'all. Boohoo Bitches!
Slerna Look
Zodya: This doll is…a doll! For this runway, I wanted to do a spin on the word “doll,” as it’s been used as a colloquial term for some of the most iconic people ever, trans women! I was inspired by the fashion/styles of Kylie Sonique Love and Sasha Colby, showcasing all of my body with this strappy number covered in glammed-up bows. I’m in my feminine enby era rn so I’m living for this, mawma! I’m in looooong blonde pigtails and I’m truly feeling the feminine fantasy. Anyways wanna dance with this doll tonight?

Critiques
Micro: Ladies, thank you for turning the heat all the way up in this roast! It's time for your critiques.
Read the critiques here!
Micro: Thank you queens. While I prepare Chi to be relocated back to her basement bedroom, you may all head backstage to untuck.
Untucked
the queens enter Untucked
🏁 Zodya CF: My usual feelings after a roast are horror, fear, and a little nauseous. But this time, I somehow feel confident. Which either means I did well or that this corset is cutting off the oxygen to my brain. Pull that shit tighter and let's see if I start feeling a crown on my head!
Zodya: Cheers to another lovely week for everyone!
Kami: Just a little hint of pink in this room right now.
🏁 Kami CF: Coming off of the runway, I feel pleasantly surprised by Micro's response to my performance. I was really scared of letting her down, but it seems like she saw where I was coming from. That feels really nice.
Slerna: I have never felt more seen than I have by Chitownbreeze. I may not have known who she was, but it is now my goal in life to become her best friend and travel the world with her.
Nikky: Good luck getting her out of the basement!
Slerna: Don't worry, I have my ways...
🏁 Slerna CF: Swimming to her rescue, look what I got!! Slerna raises her hands in an attempt to show her webbed fingers, but they still remain human fingers...just let her have her moment of hope
Karte: Kami, how are you holding up?
Kami: I have the most clarity right now that I've had throughout the entire season. I have to stand by my decision.
Karte: Are you worried that people might see this and feel like you took a spot from someone else?
Lisbon looks around in confusion
🏁 Lisbon CF: The whole time they're talking, I have zero clue what they're going off about.
Kami: If people feel that way, I can't say that I don't get their perspective. However, part of me accepting that this is my time to go has been accepting that I really did deserve to make it this far. And what you said the other day was right. If I really wanted to turn things around, I should've found a way to land in the top. I got here by the actions that I've taken. But I can't keep using that as a reason to beat myself up when it's also the reason I even made it this far.
Slerna: To be honest, I think you'll win this challenge.
Kami: Were you watching my set?
Slerna: That would be a no.
Kami: Checks out.
Lisbon: Can I ask a very fair question...what happened to Kami?
Zodya: What do you mean?
Lisbon: Why is everyone acting like she quit?
Kami: Again...were you watching my set?
Lisbon: I think I saw bits and pieces.
Karte: And the critiques?
🏁 Lisbon CF: Oh!
Lisbon: See, I kinda disassociate when it's not me getting critiques.
Karte: Let me pretend to be shocked at that one.
Lisbon: You can save your shocked face for about ten minutes from now. I have a very special gift for you.
Karte: A gift? For me? Oh, you shouldn't have!
Lisbon: No trust me, it needed to be done.
🏁 Lisbon CF: I am about to turn into Usain Bolt with how fast Karte is getting blocked. Speed wise, I'm probably gonna avoid really turning into Usain Bolt, don't know if that would be a cute look for me.
the queens return to the runway
Micro: Welcome back! Based on your roast performances and runway presentations, I've made some decisions. When I call your name, please step forward.
Micro: Kami, Nikky, Slerna. The three of you...are safe. You may step to the back of the stage.
🏁 Nikky CF: Safe? In this look? Alright...I see Micro still has something against pretty people.
🏁 Slerna CF: I was the last queen to ever place safe, but now it's happened back to back. I really need next week to be more my vibe, it's not looking too good for me.
Micro: The rest of you represent the best and brightest of the week!
🏁 Karte CF: Experience here is not the only thing that matters. You can keep throwing these new challenges at me, I will keep rising to the occasion.
🏁 Lisbon CF: There have been so many weeks where everyone is in the top, it is so nice to finally feel like I'm one of the special few.
🏁 Zodya CF: In the top three of a roast? And I didn't even have to sacrifice a small animal to get it!
Micro: But two of you really burned the house down.
...
...
Micro: Lisbon and Zodya. Congratulations, you are the top two queens of the week! You have each won a coveted "Golden Banjo™️"!
🏁 Lisbon CF: My fourth win, my fourth banjo, I don't even have the words right now. Ahh, I did it!
🏁 Zodya CF: Something lit up inside me this week, and I am so glad that it came through. There's no better feeling.
Micro: Karte, you may step to the back of the stage.
Karte lunges her giant scissors towards Micro before scurrying to the back of the stage
Micro: Now, are the top two queens ready to lipsync?
Lisbon Lipsync Look
Zodya Lipsync Look
Micro: Prior to tonight, you were asked to prepare a lipsync performance of "Dance The Night" by Dula Peep!
https://youtu.be/OiC1rgCPmUQ
Micro: This is your chance to impress me, and inch closer to a coveted spot in that grand finale.
🏁 Lisbon CF: I will take any chance to win a lipsync, but this one is without a doubt the most important one yet. Two people have four banjos right now. If I win this, Karte is dead in the water.
🏁 Zodya CF: I'm feeling myself become a true contender for the crown. It's really important that I show Micro how badly I want this. I'm not satisfied with just being in the top, I want that number one spot.
Micro: Good luck, and don't fuck it up!
Read the lipsync here!
Micro: Wow!! That was sensational.
Chi: Made me feel alive...for the first time in forever.
Micro: I've made my decision.
...
...
Micro: Lisbon...Zodya. Congratulations, you are BOTH winners, baby! You left me no choice, what can I say!
🏁 Lisbon CF: Oh Karte. You can run, but you can't hide from this!
🏁 Zodya CF: Any chance to shine is one I'm taking, and another lipsync win looks real cute on my resumé.
Micro: Since next week is the final competitive episode before the finale, nobody will be getting blocked tonight.
🏁 Lisbon CF: Well...shit.
🏁 Karte CF: I do my little happy dance, I do my little happy dance. Lisbon, looks like you're stuck with me until the end! Mwah, mwah!!
Micro: Chi, any final words to add?
Chi: Do the cut, mama! Do the cut!
Micro: Ah, yes. How could I forget? Ladies, it's time for the next elimination.
🏁 Kami CF: The reality of the situation starts to set in and I feel like I'm being led to the slaughterhouse. It's a lot more intense when you know what's about to happen.
🏁 Slerna CF: I think I should be okay? Hmm, I felt a lot better before the critiques tonight.
Micro: Tonight, two queens will be asked to sashay away.
🏁 Nikky CF: I came back into the competition with a fire under my ass, and it's still burning. I slipped up tonight, but I just won two challenges in a row, that must count for something.
Micro: When I call your name, please step forward.
Micro: Karte...Lisbon. As the queens with the most banjos, the two of you are immune from elimination this week.
🏁 Karte CF: Never placing above tenth, and now I'm in the final four. This feels like a fairytale right now.
🏁 Lisbon CF: Making it through another elimination with immunity, I can see the path to winning. I'm so close, and I know I deserve it.
Micro: The two of you may step to the back of the stage.
🏁 Karte CF: Opposite sides of the stage!
Lisbon: Thank you. Chi, we'll get you out one day!
Micro: Don't make me send you home...
Lisbon: Oop, my bad. Chi, back to the basement, sorry.
Micro: Kami, Nikky, Slerna, Zodya. The four of you are at risk of being eliminated.
🏁 Zodya CF: All I can do is hope that this return to the top wasn't too late. I need to move on, I don't know what I'll do if not.
Micro: Slerna Jimbles. You...are safe. You may head to the back of the stage.
Slerna: Whew, thank you so much.
🏁 Slerna CF: I've never been able to tell where I stand in this competition. There's no time to get comfortable because I very well might have been close to leaving tonight.
Micro: Kami. I'm sorry my dear, but now is not your time.
Kami: Totally get it. Thank you for the opportunity.
🏁 Kami CF: A wave of relief washes over me. Competing at the same level as these queens is one of the hardest things I've done. I hope I was able to make people proud, I gave it all I had.
🏁 Zodya CF: My heart breaks for Kami, but I know that this is what she wanted. And at the same time, one of the elimination spots just got taken up by someone other than me. One down, one left to go.
Micro: Nikky Fox, Zodya Killer. One of you will be moving forward to the final four. The other will be leaving us tonight.
🏁 Nikky CF: I've been in this spot before, and I know what it feels like to be sent home. There's so much more to lose this time.
🏁 Zodya CF: Nikky and I worked together to get her back into the competition, and she's been very supportive since her return. And now, she's the one thing standing between me and a spot in that final four.
Micro: I've made my decision.
...
...
Micro: Zodya Killer, you are moving forward to the final four!
Zodya holds her fingers under her eyes to catch the tears as she drops to her knees
🏁 Zodya CF: Each week, I haven't been entirely confident in my abilities. But this is my third time making it to the final four of MDR. Not many people can say that! It's full steam ahead, I'm not stopping until the lights go out.
Nikky scrunches her face and looks over to Kami
🏁 Nikky CF: I'm really disappointed right now. Ugh, I was so close.
Micro: Nikky Fox. I'm sorry, but that means your journey here has come to an end.
Micro: Kami. You have been an absolute joy across all three of your seasons, and I hope that you can feel just how loved you are by everyone here. Your charisma, sense of self, and sickening looks have cemented your status as a true legend.
🏁 Kami CF: A little ironic that in order for me to finally feel like a legend, all I needed was to be eliminated. There's some metaphor in there, but I'll leave that up to Zodya.
Micro: Nikky Fox. Even going back to Season One, the world knew that you were something special. And each time you came back, you got better and better. You are so witty, always know how to turn a look, and it's safe to say that you have a huge personality.
Nikky: And ass!
Micro: You are an absolute legend.
Nikky: Tell me about it.
🏁 Nikky CF: I'm just questioning a lot of things about what I could have done differently, and if that would've changed anything. I really tricked myself into thinking I was capable of winning this whole thing.
Micro: Your journey to this crown might be over, but the two of you are still eligible to compete in the Legendary Fame Games. For now, I must ask you to sashay away.
🏁 Kami CF: I lived, I learned, I laughed. Everything I was supposed to get from this experience, I can truly say that I got it. No regrets, this was an amazing time.
🏁 Nikky CF: What did this experience mean to me? Hmm, nothing! Just kidding...I guess. I wanted to prove how talented I am, and I can definitely say that I did that. Micro is forever a dumb bitch, but this was such a fun experience. And if you don't vote for me to win the fame games...I will track you down.
Kami and Nikky say goodbye to the other queens before leaving the stage
Micro: And then there were four. Next week, the four of you will compete in your final challenge to determine who will make it into the finale.
🏁 Zodya CF: That delivery sounds an awful lot like someone is going home next week. It's all or nothing at this point. You either put yourself in a winning spot, or you're out of here.
Micro: And don't be surprised if a few familiar faces pop up. Now, let the music play!
"Banjo" by Bebe Zahara Benet plays
Next Time on Micro's Drag Race: Legends
Micro: What better way to show your talent than with a talent show?!
Crystal: I heard we were competing for a spot in the finale?
Karte: Oh dear god.
🏁 Slerna CF: Nobody is safe right now, but I want to be safer...the safest...the safe one...yes.
Micro: Ladies...there's been a leak.
