2024.05.08 18:13 HorizonHopeful Extended application window

Unfortunately I didn’t find out about the recent application window until the day before the deadline. Is there any chance the application window for this cycle is reopened, or is it closed for good now? Really bummed I missed it and it’s hard to imagine waiting 4 years to apply! (36 years old, meet all of the qualifications - I’m not sure how interested in MDs they are, but it’s one of the routes listed on their site. I know 40 would be within their ages selected in the past, but will be so hard waiting that long).
Any hope for me?

2024.05.08 18:04 Mambo_number_105 Lesson Learned: Be Careful Out There

I’ve always had great luck with the popular online discounters. So recently I decided to try my luck with a private seller on a different but seemingly commonly used site. This particular site has been know to have fakes but with proper due diligence, it seemed to me that most of them were east to avoid. I found a Creed that I have had on my list to pick up for a reasonable price. Nothing crazy low, but reasonable. The images of the bottle checked out so I ordered it. When it showed up the packaging was really nice, the bottle and box were 100% real but when I sprayed it I noticed pretty quickly that the juice was 100% not real. It smelled nothing like it should have. Just a cheap smelling lemony, lavender bomb. I tried to let it dry down but still clearly way off. This is when I noticed that there was a small up-bend in the metal where the bottom of the atomizer meets the glass bottle. Not sure if it was messed with or just a coincidence. I know it’s hard to remove the tops of the bottles, but not impossible. All that to say- these days even if the packaging and bottle look legit, still check the juice against the real thing. And always be careful where you buy. Oh and never blind buy. Make sure you know what the real fragrance smells like before you buy.

2024.05.08 18:00 LeNoCoder I created a site where founders can list their favorite tools/products (i.e stack) all with no-code (I'm in Finance)

Hey all!
I currently work full=time in Finance and desperately want out hahah I'm constantly throwing things against the wall and seeing what sticks. This time around, I built www.faveflow.com - a site where founders can list their favorite tools & products that helped make them successful. Founders can list tools in different stacks (i.e engineering stack, finance stack, marketing stack, etc.).
The reason I created this was because when searching for tools/products myself, I found myself overwhelmed. Often times, I wasn't sure if I was getting tricked with marketing (i.e upvotes on PH). The way I combatted this was by searching what tools my favorite founders used. I trusted my founders direct recommendations more so than doing all the research by myself. For example, if Marc Louvion (one of my fave founders) recommended using Stripe over any other payment processor, I would be more inclined to using that.
The issue with this, was that it was hard to keep track of. Sometimes founders would post their 'stack' and I would bookmark it. But what if I were to miss their post. What if they updated their stack one day because something changed. I would have to keep track of all their posts and going through all my bookmarks was a pain. So I set out to build a central place where all founders can list their recommended tools!
Enter FaveFlow! You can add your stack (choose from over 500 products already listed) and join over 60+ founders (with many more to come). You can bookmark companies, save founders and save your own custom stacks (i.e see Austin Rief & Marc's favorite companies at the same time). It's really early so feel free to play around and see what's cool & not cool. Will continue building features/clearing bugs in the meantime! Let me know in the comments your feedback!
Thank you!!
P.S I built this without knowing ONE line of code. I don't have an ounce of developer talent in my blood - yet I was able to build a fully functioning web app with several features. Just really mindblowing how far we've come.

2024.05.08 17:58 skellyclique Former employer has ignored my requests to let me return their equipment, am I responsible for having to hold onto it?

I was unexpectedly let go from my job. I was working hybrid so my former employer has all the stuff I was using while on site, but there’s company property still at my house (computer monitors, keyboard, ect). I was told by the HR person that I would get a shipping label sent to me to return everything to them but I never got anything. I also asked for an inventory list so I didnt miss anything or accidentally send them something of mine. I worked in a very high security site so I can’t just go there randomly to drop stuff off I won’t even be let in the building.
I called HR to ask what to do about getting my stuff back to them, who transferred me to IT, who transferred me to security, who transferred me back to HR, who said they would call me back but never did. I tried emailing the general customer service email for the company but never got a response and called HR another couple times with no luck. One of them suggested contacting my former manager, but I don’t know her contact info because that was all on my work laptop that they kept, and when I asked HR for her number or email they said they couldn’t release that information. This is a large Fortune 500 company so I don’t know why they don’t have a process for this!
Anyway it’s been 5 months and I’m moving and all this computer crap is still at my house and I don’t know what to do with it. I’m afraid to throw it away and I don’t want to keep carrying it around, and also I don’t see how it’s MY responsibility to chase THEM.
I want to toss it but I don’t want to get in trouble later. What should I do?

2024.05.08 17:44 Calm-Educator-1066 Another Study Method Post (As a Heritage Speaker)

Hi everyone! It's been great to be part of this community, and I always scroll here for inspiration when I'm feeling some sort of plateau with language learning. I figured I'd make this post, because after 3? attempts at learning Chinese, I've finally found a method which works for me. And I remember how helpful these study method posts were for getting inspiration when I first began learning, and how much they've shaped my current method today, that I figured I'd contribute a post on here for anyone else looking for inspiration!

A Little Bit About My Background

I've recently graduated college, and I'm somewhat of a heritage speaker. I was raised in a Chinese speaking environment so I can understand conversation about day-to-day things fairly easily, but my understanding drops off as soon as the conversation becomes specialized. Also, I spoke with a slightly annoying dialect where not everyone could understand me - the province my parents are from is 2 hours by train away from Beijing, and they only speak the dialect at home. I'm not speaking the dialect perfectly either, hence, other people outside family have trouble understanding. And as for reading/writing? I knew exactly 0 characters before starting.

Past Attempts/Issues

It was hard to learn because I do well in a more structured environment, but a lot of courses/textbooks didn't seem to work for me. Reading people asking if they were from America or England was so boring, that my first two attempts to learn really just fell off. The only good thing was that I retained recognition of around 100 very common Chinese characters (think 的,了,这,etc). And I really, really needed structure because my pronunciations were just so bad that I was technically not better off than a normal beginner - only I could understand basic Chinese already.

What Worked for Me

My current method of studying Chinese has ways to deal with the holy trifecta - reading, writing, and speaking. Below, I'll list every single resource I use, and how often I use them.
Figuring out Pronounciation
I started my journey with language tutors. I went on Preply, found native Chinese speakers who don't know English (this only works as a heritage speaker who can speak a teeny tiny bit haha), and booked 6 classes with a focus on pinyin. Really, really hammering down the pronunciation portion. I had so much latent vocabulary already, I just needed to figure out how to pronounce them correctly. I had about 6 hours of lessons for this part, just figuring out how to pronounce correctly.
A New China: An Intermediate Reader of Modern Chinese - Revised Edition
This is the textbook I use now. In my opinion, it's the funniest one I've found yet. And I think I realized that while the first few chapters are incredibly hard, a lot of common words show up again, and it gets easier as I learn. I'm on Chapter 9, and it's about some kid who goes to China to study. The kid tells it like it is, and I meet with my tutor for an hour per chapter to read through the passage, discuss the exercises, and comment on the passage read. Usually, the passage highlights differences between the US and China (great for discussion), or the exercises are great for opening up conversations too. What I do is:
Return to Preply Tutors
I have a tutor I meet with 4 times a week, 30 minutes each time. Each chapter is split between 2 classes - the first is reading the text in the chapter and discussing the cultural implications, and the second class is for the exercises (constructing sentences, translation, etc) for that chapter. Four lessons, two chapters. Also this way, I'm consistently thinking about Chinese and learning a little more every day to get ready for the next lesson. I'm doing exercises before the lessons too so we can revise the sentences I've constructed.
More Reading
Graded readers make me feel really good, haha. Because I'm not learning directly from HSK, I try to have a little more than the unique character count for a book. Also, because I'm a heritage speaker, I can understand words made of multiple characters because I've heard it before. Thus, I focus a lot on learning characters instead of words, because I happen to have that advantage. For Mandarin Companion, Level 1 has 300 words. Once I recognized about 400 words, I made my way through this Mandarin Companion. Once I know 600 words, I'll make my way through a 450 unique characters (level 2) book.
Once I finish reading 2 or 3 books at each level (for reading speed, and for the sense of accomplishment), I'll start going through Imagin8's Journey to the West Series (starts at 600 unique characters, by the end of book 31? you'll know over 2000). Especially for Journey to the West, this is a book I've always wanted to read, but I know I don't have a chance of reading the original text haha.
I've also referenced this site so much: Heavenly Path to Reading
Remembering the Hanzi (Heisig)
There's definitely a lot of controversy around this book, but this is the way I learn to write. Rather than learning to read and write vocab words at the same time, it's easier for me to split it up. Because I already know the pronunciation and Chinese meaning (otherwise, I wouldn't use this book), the ordering of characters is great, and I can create my own mnenomics sometimes (noticing two words sound the same and using those clues instead of the sometimes contrived stories Heisig creates). The ordering of the characters and breakdowns, however, were ESSENTIAL to me learning the first 300 or so characters. I've tried before to learn writing, it just never stuck. And reading is hard for me, because some characters look so similar, that I found that writing was very beneficial to distinguishing. Again, maybe just me, but this is what works.
I add in about 10 words from Heisig a day to my skritter deck, with writing, tone, and pinyin (no definition) enabled for these.
Daily Study Routine
It might sound like a lot, but I probably only spend about 1 hour a day on Chinese outside of tutoring sessions. I go through my Skritter deck, then learn to write 10 words with the Heisig method. After, I learn 10 words from the textbook to read. If I learn enough words to finish a chapter, I read the textbook passage too. If I have an upcoming lesson over exercises, then I'll do the sentence construction exercises too.
Results
Skritter says I've covered about 550 words with reading and writing (some overlap, but not always since I learn reading and writing separately). It's been a really good routine for the past 2 months - I've never had days I've felt overwhelmed/burnt out, and I usually end wanting to do a little more. Also happy to have any feedback or extra things to include in my practice, but figured I'd post my exact study method for any other heritage speaker out there who's trying to get started too :D

2024.05.08 17:19 ViridianTactician Archanea Ironman Saga Finale (New Mystery Results + Series Overview)

Here I am again, for the last time for a while, bringing you the results of the final portion of the Archanea Ironman Saga. For those who haven't seen my precious posts, the Archanea Ironman Saga is a challenge in which I ironmanned all of Marth's games (FE1, FE3 both books, Shadow Dragon, and New Mystery) in chronological order, but once I use a unit in one game, I cannot use them again in any future playthrough. The idea of this challenge was to actually use some of the nonsense fodder Archanea units these games love to throw at you because its easy to fall into just using the same units over and over again. If you're curious about the previous parts of the challenge or if you want a more in depth overview of the rules, then be sure to check them out here:
FE1: https://www.reddit.com/fireemblem/comments/1axjnve/archanea_ironman_saga_fe1_results/
FE3 Book 1: https://www.reddit.com/fireemblem/comments/1b52tzi/archanea_ironman_saga_fe3_book_1_results/
FE3 Book 2: https://www.reddit.com/fireemblem/comments/1c5yhtz/archanea_ironman_saga_fe_3_book_2_results/
SD: https://www.reddit.com/fireemblem/comments/1ceuxhf/archanea_ironman_saga_shadow_dragon_results/
Originally, I had wanted to do this ironman on Maniac, but after failing the ironman on Chapter 3, I decided to restart on Hard in the interest of time. This was also a fresh save, so the male class sets were kept separate. And aside from the English patch, this is an otherwise unmodded version of the game, unlike my SD ironman which was patched to allow for the prologue and gaiden chapters. Now since this is the final part of the challenge, I hope you're ready for the longest unit review in this challenge so far, because I actually played this game how IntSys intended:
  1. Marth: I think this Marth turned out better than any other Marth in this challenge, he capped strength, speed, skill, and luck, almost had 55+ HP, and not to mention the bonuses from his Binding Shield; dude was a monster in the late game. Not to mention enemy units actually had axes in this game, so Marth could finally benefit from the weapon triangle. I could throw him into a small group of enemies, and trust he wouldn't die, he was just cracked. Fun fact, he as the first unit to cap a stat, that being speed.
  2. My Unit (Kris): My Kris has quite possibly the weirdest journey of any Kris out there. Most Kris's usually pick their starting class and stick with it, or maybe they change into a similar class like starting mercenary before switching to something like Pirate. I decided to start out as a Mercenary for the prologue, and in Chapter 1 I immediately swapped to Dark Mage for the rest of the game. The idea was that I'd have a somewhat tanky unit in the prologue, but I would also have a mage for the early game, and ultimately a Gharnef killer ready at all times. And it turned out quite well, would recommend Dark Mage!Kris, its a really good class. Like most Kris's, once he started going, he just snowballed into my best unit at all times, if a bit fragile. Fun fact, he was one point away from capping magic for 3 levels, but never ended up capping it when he reached 20 promoted, and I hate it.
  3. Luke: Luke was useful in the prologue, but was swiftly replaced once better units (Sirius) started showing up. He was alright, and I probably would've kept him around longer if his growths were generous, but alas, he was destined to the bench once I reached Chapter 10. No fun fact because he wasn't around for that long.
  4. Rody: I didn't really use Rody in the prologue, so I definitely didn't use him in the main game that much. He felt like an inferior Luke, which is sad on so many levels. So he was benched rather early on, but I don't remember the exact chapter. Fun fact, he was the first unit I willingly benched.
  5. Ryan: Ryan was good for the early game, but his speed took a rather dramatic hit, dude at 11 speed at Chapter 14, so he wasn't long for the main team. But before then, he was an excellent team member that could chip dangerous enemies so that others could get the kill, and he made quick work of Dracoknights and Flying Dragons. Fun fact, of the Chapter 1 units, besides Kris, he lasted on the team for the longest, officially hitting the bench on Chapter 14.
  6. Cecil: Cecil wasn't used in the prologue, and she ended up dying in Chapter 1. Everyone point and laugh. Had she made it though, I would've turned her into a Pegasus Knight so that I could have 2 fliers for the early game,, but that dream was short lived. Fun fact, she was my only death.
  7. Marisha: The single most important unit in this run, and its not even close. In the early game, she was my only healer, and was the sole reason I made it through most chapters. And in the late game, she was my only unit with A rank staves, meaning she was the only one who could use the Fortify staff, which won me the game. Not to mention she's the only one who could use the Hammerne staff. Fun fact, she was my only unit who didn't have a cap stat.
  8. Catria: Catria my beloved! In previous parts of this challenge, I made it clear that Draug was my favorite unit in all of Archanea...Catria was a close second, but after this run she might even tie Draug, or even beat him outright. To simply state how cracked my Catria ended up being: she capped strength, speed, skill, luck, and defense. That's 5 stats! Oh, and she A ranked both her weapons. And I made her a Falcon Knight, and I love this class so much more than Dracoknight, if only for the higher speed cap. Once she got the Iote's Shield, she quite literally never had any fear. Fun fact, she had more capped stats than any other unit.
  9. Julian: Julian was alright, but I really don't like thieves in this game, if only for their incredibly low strength cap. But, he acted like a budget Swordmaster in combat, and he let me save a bunch of money that otherwise would've been spent on door keys, so he was pretty invaluable. He ended up capping strength, skill, and speed. And he stayed alive long enough to recruit Lena, so I can't complain. Fun fact, he was the last unit to level up in this playthrough, and this challenge as a whole.
  10. Ogma: I don't think I can say anything about Ogma that hasn't already been said: He good, really good. he ended up capping strength, skill, speed, and HP, so he was quite unkillable in the late game. While other units have their fancy, heroic weapons like a Gradivus or Falchion, Ogma had a +6 might brave axe and tore through the end game. Fun fact, he was the first unit to promote.
  11. Sirius: Like with Ogma, I don't think I can add much to the Sirius discourse, other than the fact that my Sirius was a bit strength screwed in the late game, but the Gradivus's high might made up for it. Once he was recruited, I ended up reclassing him into Dracokight (which is probably why his strength was lower than average) until I recruited Minerva, just to have another flier to pair with Catria, but he reclassed back into Paladin once I had Minerva. Fun fact, his Gradivus is the only special weapon to break.
  12. Phina: Listen man, she's a dancer, she never saw combat except in her join chapter. She capped speed and luck, and her strength was almost 20, so there's that. But yeah, 20/10 unit, dancers are stupid good, especially when paired with the Again staff so she didn't need to be near the front lines, only had to dance for Marisha. Fun fact, she saw the least amount of combat.
  13. Cain: Cain had an interesting journey. He started out as just a better Luke, but since I already had Sirius, I made a decision many here would call stupid, but I stand by what I did: I turned Cain into a Sniper. I did this since Ryan's low speed was really dragging me down, and I did the math; a promoted Ryan would have lower strength, speed, and defense than Sniper!Cain, and since I wanted to use the Parthia, I locked in. He turned out really good, capping speed and skill, and almost capping strength and defense and since I reclassed him to Sniper instead of Archer, that meant he had C bows instead of E, letting him use killer bows at base. In the final chapter I ended up benching him for another unit, but I really liked how he turned out. Fun fact, he was the last unit to get replaced by another.
  14. Minerva: Alright, I'm gonna say it: Minerva wasn't that good in this game, and that's entirely due to Dracoknight's low speed cap. In the late game, she just couldn't double anything, and her strength was quite low, 22 until the stat booster secret shop, and her defense was even lower than Catria's. Part of me really wishes I could reclass her into Falcon Knight, I legitimately think she'd do better in that class. Fun fact, I almost killed her thanks to a mis-input on the final chapter, but I managed to save her.
  15. Merric: Was Merric overshadowed by Kris? Yes. Did Merric have a higher staff rank than Kris? Also yes. Merric had B rank staves, letting him use staves like Again and Silence, and the Gharnef map went smoothly because Merric and Marisha could double tap the Again on the same turn. As a combat unit, he was really solid, but his magic stat was almost 5 points lower than Kris's, so Merric was often relegated to staff duty. But he did have higher defense than Kris, 12 compared to Kris's 5. Fun fact, he achieved A rank tomes against Medeus, so the last possible chance he could.
  16. Athena: Athena existed. She was a necessary pick in the prologue, and in the main story she was a pretty decent backup unit. I trained her up and promoted her just incase something happened to Ogma or Cain, but she wasn't really needed. Fun fact, she was my only promoted unit that wasn't level 20 unpromoted.
  17. Katarina: It might seem excessive to have 4 mage units on the final team, but the extra healing never hurt, and nosferatu tanking isn't as good here as in Fates or Awakening, but its still pretty good. She didn't really stand out much, and really only acted like a bonus healer, or a high damage chip if needed. Fun fact, of my units with capped stats, she had the fewest capped stats with just speed.
  18. Nagi: Yup, I benched Cain for Nagi since the Divinestone is busted against Medeus's endless dragon horde. And this was my first time using her in general, so I thought why not? She took down a few of the dragon reinforcements without trouble, and pretty much was the only reason I made it through the final map without a casualty. Fun fact, she was the last unit on the final team to be recruited.
And that's a wrap! I'll give a review about the game first before starting a review on the challenge as a whole. If you read my review on the FE3 parts of the challenge, then you might remember that FE3 in one of my favorite fire emblem games (top 3), so this game has a lot to live up to. To start things off: I hate this game's story simply due to the addition of Kris. So much of FE3's story is rewritten to give Kris the spotlight, ideas or decisions that were originally Marth's or Jagen's, Kris's now. Cool scenes involving Marth or Jagen, Kris's too. And it wouldn't be that bad if Kris was an interesting character, but they're not. In fact, Kris makes Fates' and Engage's worst characters the most well written and nuanced characters in comparison to Kris's schtick of talking about Marth or training for Marth. Kris is a good unit in terms of combat, but character wise they're almost as bland as Byleth. And I don't even hate all of Kris's character; I think Katarina and Kris work really well together as counterparts, and Kris is probably at their best when Katarina is on screen, but its so rare. And that's really my only negative with this game, that and ambush reinforcements, and the changes to the star shards. But the gameplay is pretty solid, it looks much better than Shadow Dragon, and I can see myself picking this up again for something like a PMU or a different challenge. As for the final rankings: A Speed, B Survival, and A Tactics, so pretty good all around.
Now for the challenge as a whole: this was a lot of fun, and I highly recommend it! My only complaint is that I wasn't in a position to record myself, and was relegated to these Reddit review posts. I wanted an excuse to use all the different Archanea units, and I certainly used them, and there were still units I never ended up using, especially in New Mystery! There were a few hiccups, like me stupidly using Wrys in FE1, and using both Boah and Wendell in FE1...a lot of mistakes in FE1. And my FE3 plans went had a few bumps, but I made it out alive. I probably used my units too cautiously, like there was no reason to use both Wolf and Sedgar in Shadow Dragon, so I could've used one earlier, and I probably should rework how thieves work in this challenge since door keys really aren't fun to manage, but as a first attempt, I couldn't complain how things went. Special thanks to everyone who left tips, suggestions, and just took the time to look this over. And this challenge definitely wouldn't be possible without fireemblemwod for the sheer amount of information on that site, this challenge would've looked super different if I didn't have that site. If you do fire emblem challenges, then I highly recommend checking them out, the site's in Spanish, but most pages (mostly the old games) have English translations available.
And that's it, thanks for taking the time to read over my journey on the stupidest challenge I could think of. I probably won't attempt something like this for awhile, this was a lot of fire emblem in such a short amount of time. But I'm not sure what to do as a "second season". Do I go through Marth's games again, only with all the new information and experience I have, or do I play other games? The Tellius duology could work, but I also had an idea like all 3 Fates paths first generation only. But I'm not gonna do anything like that for a long time, so I have a while to think about it. But yeah, that's that! I've been do this challenge off and on for a few months, and it feels pretty good to finally be done. Let me know what you thought, either for the New Mystery portion or of the challenge as a whole, and I highly recommend trying this out for yourself, you might be surprised at which units you end up attached to, because I never thought I'd end up caring for Caesar, but he's certainly shot up my Archanea character list, might've even reached the top 10. So try it out, it's a lot of fun!

2024.05.08 17:15 lydiathecoach Resources to Support Maternal Mental Health, in honor of Maternal Mental Health Month

May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month (it’s also general Mental Health Awareness Month), so to honor all Moms out there, I created a list of resources and support mechanisms for moms and parents in any stage of their journey. I also have some bonus mental health resources that apply to non-parents.
This topic is especially near and dear to my heart because while the newborn phase was one full of incredible love and joy, it also contained my very darkest days. I wish I had a list like this when I was in the throes of postpartum depression, anxiety, and birth-related PTSD… so I’ve made it for you and your loved ones.
PS- If you're struggling with birth or postpartum or motherhood in general, please know it's not your fault and you're not alone. Up to 20% of women/pregnant people suffer from mental health conditions during pregnancy and postpartum (Psychiatry.org), 25 and 34 percent of birth parents report that their births were traumatic, and 1.5 and 9% of moms go on to develop PTSD. I wish I had sought out more support sooner postpartum instead of suffering in silence because I felt shame and guilt for not being perfectly joyful and happy all the time.

2024.05.08 17:11 lydiathecoach Resources to Support Maternal Mental Health, in honor of Maternal Mental Health Month

2024.05.08 17:00 CheeseLeaves [US-OK] Apartment is a Shitshow– Can I break my lease?

Hello, Hello! I'll try to keep this as uniform as possible, but it's unlikely. I'm frazzled by all of this and it truly overwhelms me to write.
Here is a bit of background and a brief list of the problems I (and other tenants) have experienced at my current apartment. I will expand on some of them after.
I live in Oklahoma. I was in a different part of the state before I moved here at the end of December (near the end of the last week) from 3 hours away. I did this so that I could safely attend the college nearby, and was not able to do a walkthrough prior due to the distance between my former home and this property. I would not be allowed into the apartment until the lease was signed either. It was nighttime when I arrived, and I found out quickly that there was no make-ready performed.
  1. The toilet was broken prior to and upon my arrival– among MANY other things– but that is the prime concern, as it legally made the apartment unlivable. Though there were/are other appliance and plumbing issues when I arrived that are still an issue today. Only a portion of my concerns have been resolved, after HOUNDING the maintenance crew.
  2. They refused to prorate the rent I paid for the night and following day spent in an unlivable apartment.
  3. I have received verbal (not written, unfortunately) confirmation from the front desk worker, who oversees all of the maintenance orders and regularly works with the maintenance crew, that they were putting in work orders on behalf of the tenants in EVERY apartment so that they could come work on them. This was done without prior approval of any tenants, because they were on a deadline to make 180+ repairs before code enforcement came to check apartments the following week. (Because tenants have been filing formal complaints and reaching out to code enforcement). My apartment was on the list of them scheduled to get repairs– and I'm positive they would have let themselves in to do them unconfirmed and uninvited if both of my locks weren't always in use.
  4. Twice now (off the top of my head) they have given less than 24 hour's notice before attempting to enter my apartment. Both, I speculate, were related to a different issue involving code enforcement being contacted. One of them for certain was involving code enforcement, because they later showed up to check my apartment over. → Both times this happened, the notice was placed on my door the evening before they were scheduled to enter my apartment. One was placed on my door between the window of 5-7pm, when entry was scheduled for 9am-12pm. I may still have the paper, but I'm not certain if I caught a photo of it on my door.
  5. Upon taking an additional ESA letter to the lady in the office to cover my own bases, she informed me that I "have too many animals" and "will probably need to rehome some". I pried to know where it was stated in my lease that I could not have this amount (three cats, three dogs– all but one being tiny). She searched for it, couldn't find it, called another building managed by the same company, they agreed it wasn't there. I showed her the county AND city-specific ordinances which allow up to six cats or dogs, or any combination thereof, in total. I am not breaching anything. She then stated Management will still want copies of all of my animals' proof of sterlisation (which I would have to pay for myself) AND a single (1) ESA letter that covers all six animals. No reputable, qualified, licensed individual will write that and I am certainly not paying for it– because the ones that I have are legal. Keep in mind this is not a single animal on each letter, it's three letters total (which may still feel like a lot). I said I likely won't be able to make that happen, but that management can talk to me directly if they want to discuss it. → I found out during this same discussion that Management had already threatened other tenants with eviction if they did not rehome one/some of their pets. This happened to multiple tenants, but one of which was the prime focus of discussion. She had three dogs, all sterilised. She now only has two. Again, the lease does not specify a limit on how many animals a tenant can house– nor was this tenant breaching the city ordinance.
  6. During the application process, it was stated on their website that each tenant with a pet would need to pay a $200 pet deposit. ("A" referring to a single deposit– site did not say "per pet" nor does my lease). Management is now saying it's $200 per pet. I didn't pay any pet deposit, nor will I need to legally, as I have all of my cats and dogs on valid ESA letters which are on file. But it's shady that they'd do this.
  7. There are aesthetic improvements being made to the office building, benches and tables being installed in public areas, and brand new security cameras being installed around the complex– but tenants have been complaining about unsecure doors, roach infestations, and so many other issues that this money needs to be spent on.
My city doesn't have it's own Housing Authority, so today I'll be calling a nearby one that says it services the county as a whole.
I want out. Everything here sucks. My lease is up in December, but I can't last that long here. However, I don't believe I'll have the means to pay off my remaining months and find a new place at the same time. I've had no luck finding someone to take over the remainder of the lease term, nor just finding a new tenant to replace me after my lease is terminated. I also don't want this to affect my housing opportunities in the future.
What can I do from here?
Editing to add: None of my animals are a breed prohibited by the apartment. The lease I signed did not state any animal breed restrictions.

Total scrap job - looking for budget friendly ideas
Okay, first off, the pictures above are from the listing when I bought the house over a year ago. The previous owners had two massive dogs and two kids, all of which loved being outside. Clearly. I just don't have any recent pictures on me atm.
The lawn has since fully grown back, the play equipment is gone, and all of the gardening along the garage and shed have beeb removed. The "blinds" on the porch have also been removed, as they were falling apart. Basically, this is a totally clean slate.
I'm looking for some ideas on how to make this space more enjoyable. For reference, I live alone and have a large dog who loves running along the fenceline behind the garage (I'd actually like to discourage this, as he's tormenting the neighbor dog). I also have a sump pump discharge to consider as well; the hose is not underground or anything, as it has to pass over concrete to get to any clear discharge site.

Not ready to spend on tools yet? We get you—luckily, we've got a free Semrush plan that allows you to use most of our features without subscribing to a paid account.
Let's look into it & see what you can do with a free Semrush plan!
To start off, let's differentiate between two types of free Semrush plans:
Here are a few things you can do with a free account:

1. Perform keyword research for free

You can run 10 keyword searches per day using the Keyword Magic Tool or the Keyword Overview
This means that on a daily basis, you can get 10 x 10=100 results to cover your keyword research needs.
Here’s just some of what you can do in one click:

2. Analyze competitors for free

You can also use those 10 searches per day on Domain Overview.
Even with the free subscription, you can analyze data around:

3. Track your keyword rankings for free

With your free account, you can track up to 10 keywords using the Position Tracking tool. You just need to:
After this, you will be able to monitor rankings and set up alerts to be notified of changes in rankings for you and your competitors.

4. Run a free website audit

As a free user, you can crawl up to 100 URLs with the Site Audit. The audit crawls any domain, subdomain, or subfolder and shows you:

5. Monitor your local listings

You can also start a free local SEO audit with the Listing Management tool.
This lets you check the status of your local listings in 70+ authoritative directories in the US (from Google Business Profile and Yelp to Trip Advisor and Bing) and track your local listings in over 25 countries, including the UK, Australia, Canada, France, and Germany.

6. Get recommendations for content optimization

With the target keywords you’ve researched, you can use an SEO Content Template to get insights into your competition, extract other relevant keywords to include in your content, and determine the ideal length of your text. This can later be used to create a content brief or write copy yourself.

7. Create optimized and user-friendly content

Once you’re ready to start writing, you can use the SEO Writing Assistant. This tool proposes ways to optimize your copy, improve its readability, and integrate the SEO Content Template recommendations.
You can add new content to it or import the content from an existing page. It also works as a plug-in with Google Docs, WordPress, and MS Word.

8. Get ideas on how to improve on-page content and SEO

With a free account, you can create a campaign using the On-Page SEO Checker.
You just need to enter your target keywords and a URL you want to analyze and you will get a report with ideas on:

9. Detect AI content & plagiarism

The free subscription also includes access to the Plagiarism Checker, and you can use it to check for any signs of AI-generated writing or plagiarism.
After pasting your content, you’ll get a report with the text’s likelihood of plagiarism, AI-written content, readability, reading time, and any grammatical errors.

10. Check your website's speed & accessibility

You can also check your site’s speed and accessibility with the free version of Semrush. Just enter the URL into the Website Speed Test app.
You’ll get a report within two minutes detailing your site’s performance. There will be a total score, which is the summation of the checks on performance, accessibility, best practices, and SEO.
This report will help you understand if any improvements need to be made to make your site accessible and optimized for search.

11. Create a buyer persona

The Semrush Persona Builder helps you document your audience personas for free, with shareable documents that you can use for your marketing team.
You can use pre-made templates so that you don’t have to start from scratch, and once you begin, you can add details about your ideal buyer’s demographics, frustrations, and motivations.

How else can you use your free Semrush account

Apart from the tools we’ve mentioned above, you can also:
Still, no matter what your marketing needs are, Semrush allows you to build and manage your entire digital strategy from a single platform, even with a free account.
If you have any questions, drop a comment in this thread, and we’ll be here!

2024.05.08 16:22 jimmyzinn7 The government in London, in cohorts with feminist groups, are devising homeless strategies to ignore homeless men.

So firstly, I have to say this is nothing new, it's been going on for years. But yesterday my attention was caught by this post here, where a special commission lead by a feminist organization called Solace Women's Aid.
The headline immediately set of alarm bells:
Number of women sleeping rough on England's street may be nine times higher than government thinks.
So I've been doing some digging.
Solace has a special program they call a census around England, split into two parts
One for the entire country
One for London specifically
I made a post yesterday about the absurdity of the comments from the national commission, so this post will be an introduction into the corruption happening in the city of London, and a little bit of the national program as well.
Now here is Solace's report on national women's homelessness.
Since this is an introductory post, and I don't want it to be too long, I'll just add a few key points. But the main takeaway is the term *Gender-Informed." You'll see this a lot, they recommend developing a "Gender-Informed" approach to homelessness, and "gender-informed" policies.
Firstly, they list some absolutely impossible figures regarding the number of homeless women
In contradiction to the 2023 rough sleeping snapshot that suggests women constitute only 15% of the rough sleeping population, the data review meetings held as part of the 2023 census reveal that the actual number of women who experience rough sleeping could be at eight to nine times higher than snapshot estimates, and in London double the CHAIN estimates. This highlights the value of taking a gender-informed approach to estimating the scale of women’s rough sleeping. The 2023 census also provides evidence that undertaking both the survey and the data review meetings allows for more women to be identified than is possible by using only one of these two research methods
Hang- 8 to 9 times higher than 15%? 8.5 x 15 is 127%...so 127% of rough sleepers in England are women?
But let's move on. This next paragraph makes me very curious as to how a "gender-informed" policy would treat male homeless people.
The aim to end rough sleeping is a vital one that we must reassert, and through a lens of equality: rough sleeping can only end for good if everyone’s needs and experiences are considered. Learning from the women’s rough sleeping census informs the need for a concerted focus on women, as well as providing understanding and solutions for addressing women’s rough sleeping through tailored, safe and effective responses. Such responses could not only end rough sleeping for women but also reveal potential effective methods for ending rough sleeping for everyone.
In other words, we should only focus on women for now, and then, maybe, we can get to helping men in the future.
There's much more in that report, it's a 60 page report but this is again just an intro. But if you read through the whole thing, it's very clear that homeless men will not treated equally, if treated barely at all.
So let's go to a report from the City of London government on rough sleeping
Note the last bullet point under "cross-cutting priorities"
ensure that services are genuinely adaptive to all people who sleeping rough, considering age, gender, race and other characteristics, and including those with more specialist needs
What does "genuinely adaptive" mean? If a "gender-informed" policy is implemented, as Solace suggests- what would this mean for male homeless?
I'll leave at that for now, but if you're familiar with that London/UK has done in the past, you can read between the lines as to what is happening, and what they're planning on (continuing) to do.
