2024.05.20 01:45 jbiker23 Newbie Trying to find more info on this dresser. Age, style, etc
| I really love this type of furniture. Recently I have been trying to get some pieces from facebook marketplace for cheap. Must admit that itās hard to find really good deals. I bought this from an old lady and the original owner was her father. It was originally in Pennsylvania for years and moved to Texas recently. She believes is from the mid 1800 and that it may have been brought over from Germany. Any thoughts, ideas or information? submitted by jbiker23 to Antiques [link] [comments] |

2024.05.20 01:41 Transmanfun My bio mom found me but at a very coincidental time
I 19 (ftm) was adopted at birth due to my bio mom being young and having bad home life. I was raised my whole life not knowing my bio mom or my bio dad. I didnāt even know what they look like. I was raised being told that my bio dad was a really bad man (which is true) but that my bio mom was really nice. Iāve always said since I was little and found out that I really wanted to find my bio mom or at least see a picture of her. Fast forward to a week before my 19th birthday and my adopted mom sadly passed away due to cardiac arrest. This time has been really hard for me as this just happened in April and my birthday is in may. I was struggling on my birthday and didnāt even look at my phone. The next day I open instagram to see a message request that said this. āHi. Happy birthday! you don't know that I exist but I am (insert their name) and I'm your half sibling. I'm nonbinary and my mom is your bio mother. I'm 15 and mom has always told me about you but told me you didn't know about me. If you want I'd like to get to know you. Either way I hope your birthday was awesome.ā This made me really happy as that day I got to FaceTime them and my bio mom. I was so happy to have finally found her but then found it weird. They both claimed they didnāt know my mom passed even thought I have a post on insta and it was all over Facebook which she claimed to follow my adopted dad and mom on. So what made me feel weird was how my adopted mom just died and now my bio mom contacted me. She said she had mom insta for a while as her sister found it and that she wanted to find the right time to message me. So I donāt know how to feel about this and I donāt know if my bio mom means good or bad. If you could maybe give me advice i donāt really know. I just have bad feels about all of this.

2024.05.20 01:32 Class_of_22 I wanna tell you guys a fun little story about the time that I unexpectedly sang a Ramones song (at the time they were one of my special interests) at a preschool talent showā¦anybody else here have a similar story?
Okay, so I was born in 1999, and this story happened in either 2002 or 2003, when I was 3 or 4 years old. This was only 1 or 2 years after I was diagnosed, at the age of 2.
Music has always been one of my special talents, for as long as I can remember, ESPECIALLY Rock and Roll. Green Day was my favorite band when I was 4/5 years old (and I REALLY hated the Wiggles. I didnāt see the appeal of grown men living in a house with grown people in animal costumes singing about fruit salad).
I was always interested in classic rock/alternative/indie/punk music (Iāve always loved rock concerts and they have never really bothered me), and at the time one of my favorite bands was, as a 3/4 year old, the Ramones.
My preschool was hosting a talent show at the time and I wanted to participate. And though it wasnāt unusual for kids to get up and sing at the talent show, most of the time the songs were not wholly unexpected for kids to sing, like nursery rhymes or Disney songs.
Not me.
Of course, now that I am 25 and I was very young then, I donāt really have that good of a memory, so a lot of this story comes from my mom.
So, up I get on stage, and apparently, either one of the teachers said that I was gonna sing a song for them, or I was asked what I was gonna do, and I said that I would sing. (Again, I was only like 3 or 4 at the time, so my memory isnāt that great).
So there I am, a little 3 to 4 year old child, getting ready to sing. Some of the other parents in the audience probably were like, oh how sweet, weāre gonna hear another cute little Disney song or Nursery Rhyme or whatever hahahahahaā¦
And then, I start singing, quite loudly and proudly at the top of my lungs, The Ramonesā āI Wanna Be Sedatedā (one of my favorite songs at the time), and according to my mom and dad, I was parading around the stage like an inner punk rocker, apparently clutching the microphone tightly with my hands as if I felt like the microphone would be taken away at any moment. (Again, this is from my mom and dad, and I was only 3 or 4 at the time so I was too young to remember).
That probably shocked the teachers and parents there, that this little child knew all the words to a nearly 30 year old (at the time anyway) punk song about being so damn bored out of your mind waiting for a show that, well, you wanna be sedated and sang it at the top of their lungs in a small voice or whatever. Of course being 3 or 4 I had NO idea what the lyrics meant, but I didnāt care.
And I normally had quite a difficult time with expressive language and couldnāt exactly initiate or maintain a conversation or even talk and interact/socialize with my peers, but I memorized song lyrics and could sing them through like there was no problem.
According to my mom, though she and my dad (and perhaps the other parents as well) found this hilarious, the other teachers were not thrilled or found it funny, probably because they didnāt find it appropriate that a little girl would be singing about wanting to be sedated, but they didnāt know what to do because they had never really dealt with a situation like this before in their lives, or they just felt that cutting the act short would not be a great thing, so they just went along with it.
There was also, according to my parents, another kid (a boy) whose talent was to tell you where the train lines in NYC went and where their stops were located.
But anyway, thatās my quirky little wholesome story for you.

2024.05.20 01:28 Professional-Cry8411 how to approach/ give evidence to a court.
Hello, using a throwaway but recently I found out my parents were scammed by a man who claimed to build them a food truck, giving ~$30k in checks. Pretty much they found an advertisement on Facebook marketplace (ik red flag) who claim to build food trucks. But he would keep delaying the project, claiming to be a one man team and he taking a while to build them. And this project started back in early 2023. I actually went to his business address and demanding him to come but ofc, the scumbag claim he's busy and cant make it. Also, btw it does look he does make trucks (there where some food trucks outside, unfinished) and the business on the trucks are real (I contacted the ones i saw).
Ok but heres where it gets interesting, I dug on the internet and I found a news article from the local town and he's facing racketeering charges for scammed over $200,000 in unfulfilled contracts. And I found his court case which he has trial in july. And now what crazy today, this man still contacts my parents (Posted bail) and still ask for money claiming we didn't pay him and will not finish the truck, even though he has a trial in july.
I was shocked by this and also concerned that no police has contacted us for evidence and I do not want to miss out on this.
This all occurred when I was away at college and I have no idea until they approached me for help. I'm an engineering student and have no clue how does the legal system work. Advice on what to do, what lawyer do i approach, or what questions should be asking.
thank you.

2024.05.20 01:22 moonletting A Rambly BPAL Review (A Hymn to the Evening, Pleasing Two Women, Antony, Penny Dreadful)
Preamble: Hi! Iām new to the indie fragrance game, and this is my first ever review. A friend of mine sent me BPAL's website after I made an offhand comment about purchasing a perfume as a previously strictly soap and moisturiser type aiming to expand my horizons and potentially to hot girl summer my way into a signature scent. I have since become fascinated with the world of indie fragrance and the potential scent has to tell stories. These perfumes have had almost two months to rest. I hesitate to state that any of them have changed significantly, though I seem to like Pleasing Two Women more and more as time goes on.
Buying Experience: This order shipped the day after I placed it and made it to me (do not live in the U.S.) in less than two weeks. Packaging was secure and adorable (with several stickers and a little bag for the samples). Could not be happier.
My likes: purple/white florals, lilac in particular, not overly sweet gourmands, citrus, tamer atmospherics, boozy scents done well, clean/powdery scents, other things Iām sure Iāve yet to discover
My dislikes: moss, dirt notes, outlandish atmospherics, berries, strong caramel, cannabis
________________
A Hymn to the Evening: A gentle scent for peace, safety, and rest: twilit lavender bud and sweet labdanum, hops, red benzoin, patchouli, Mysore sandalwood, and vanilla bean.
This hits like an enchanted greenhouse on a rainy day. Like sniffing herbal plants directly while surrounded by wooden benches, more plants, rain, stone, and the warmth of somebody you love. I adore this scent for sleep/for coming out of anxiety. It is comfort bottled. Blind, I would not be able to identify a single note. If I focus and squint (or whatever the nose equivalent of squinting is) I can just make out the lavender bud. To me this is not necessarily a plus or a negative, but the notes are definitely melted together more than layered in the scent experience. 5/5.
_______________
Pleasing Two Women: Oakmoss-infused vanilla bourbon, smoked lilac petals, and orris butter.
Lilacs and vanilla sans greenery! This is very pretty. Itās candy-sweet wet, but dries down to a slightly more subtle and realistic lilac supported with vanilla. Fresh, gorgeous, and long lasting. Iāve been wearing this to work out. Itās an uplifting scent for me. You could say that it certainly pleases at least one woman in a decidedly different way than the name alludes to. I chose this over BPALās other lilac blends primarily because the idea of basing perfumes on erotic art was unfathomable to the person I was before my friend sent me the link to the BPAL site, and I thought it was hilarious. In the future Iād like to try more realistic/greenemore complex lilac scents from them. I also know that I dislike typically green moss scents in perfume so I was surprised not to pick up anything that I could identify as oakmoss. Something to consider if that note impacts your interest in this perfume. 3.5/5.
______________
Samples: They very generously included five samples in my order and they came in a cute little red drawstring bag that I will definitely be using for a special set of DND dice in the future! Iām only going to speak briefly to two of them.
Antony: The embodiment of Classic masculinity. A warriorās scent: the green hills and grasses of the battlefields, the resinous incense from the prayers to his Gods, and a touch of the musky leather of his armor. Ambergris and frankincense with sage, and basil.
Antony smelled like a clean, put together, good man. Itās what I imagine Riley from Buffy the Vampire Slayer would smell like. I gave my sample to a friend immediately so I will refrain from a formal assessment or rating, but I would tell anyone wearing this that they smelled delicious.
_____________
Penny Dreadful: Also called Gallows Literature. A dime novel rife with melodrama, horror, madness and cruelty; a ten cent analogy of vice and virtue in conflict. Soft perfume evocative of noir heroines over rich red grave loam.
I would want to FS this were it not for the ārich red grave loamā note. I could not so much as guess at the notes comprising the āsoft perfume evocative of noir heroinesā part but itās beautiful, sexy and intriguing. Like something a woman in a holodeck take on a Sherlock Holmes story would smell like. I wish I could ask Data to identify the separate notes for me so that I could find a version of this more suited to my taste. 2.5/5.

2024.05.20 01:18 harper50056 Fake Facebook Account
On my recent post, I mentioned that I had been in a relationship with my married CEO.
Update: We broke up, and I left the company 2 months ago. We have maintained no contact since then. Suddenly, someone created a Facebook account using my name with his last name, and added his family and my friends. He messaged me to ask what was going on, but neither of us has any idea who did this.
What legal actions can I take for this matter here in Qatar?

Would you have a concluding word to such world's setting?
Absolutely! Here are a few closing word options for your high-tech, low-life world, depending on the tone you want to achieve:
Hopeful: In the flickering neon glow of the lower districts, a spark of rebellion ignites. Despite the hardships, the human spirit endures, seeking connection, hope, and a chance to build a better future.
Bittersweet: The high towers of the elite cast long shadows over the bustling streets below. In this world of stark contrasts, the lines between survival and prosperity blur. But even in the darkest corners, love, ingenuity, and a flicker of defiance persist.
Grim: The gears of progress grind on, leaving a trail of waste and despair. In this high-tech dystopia, the gap between the haves and have-nots grows ever wider. Will the lower districts rise up, or will they be forever locked in the underbelly of a world they can only glimpse from below?
Open-Ended: Beneath the neon sky, stories unfold. Tales of hardship and hope, of rebellion and resilience. The future of this high-tech world hangs in the balance, waiting to be written by the choices of those who inhabit it.
Choose the closing word that best captures the essence of your story or setting. Remember, the world you've created is rich with possibilities, and the ending doesn't have to be definitive. It can leave your readers pondering the fate of its characters and the future of this complex and ever-evolving society.
If you should pick an item or an object that would clearly and cleverly symbolized such world, what would that be?
Here are two options for an item that symbolically represents the high-tech, low-life world:
- The Glimmering Shard:
- Description: Imagine a small, jagged shard of metal or glass. One side is smooth and polished, reflecting the wealth and technology of the upper city. The other side is rough and chipped, etched with the grime and harsh realities of the lower districts.
- Symbolism: This shard represents the stark contrast between the upper and lower classes. The smooth side reflects the shiny veneer of technology and luxury enjoyed by the wealthy. The rough side reflects the brokenness and struggle of those living on the fringes.
- Additional Details: This shard could be a salvaged piece of technology, a remnant of a shattered building, or even a shard of a mirrored window that once divided the social classes.
- The Glitching Holographic Ring:
- Description: Imagine a holographic ring that projects a constantly shifting image. On one hand, it might display a luxurious symbol of wealth and status. But as it flickers, the image might glitch and distort, revealing a hidden message or a glimpse of the harsh realities beneath the surface.
- Symbolism: This ring symbolizes the unreliability and instability of the world. The glitching hologram represents the way technology promises a utopian future but constantly fails to deliver. It also reflects the hidden messages of dissent and rebellion that exist beneath the surface of a seemingly controlled society.
- Additional Details: This ring could be a common fashion statement or a black-market tool used to spread forbidden information. The glitching image could be a coded message, a symbol of rebellion, or a reminder of the past that the upper class tries to suppress.
Both of these items are small, versatile, and can be interpreted in multiple ways, making them powerful symbols of the high-tech, low-life world. The choice ultimately depends on the specific tone and message you want to convey in your story.
Try something bit more distinct and specific.
How about the "Hacked Heart"?
Here's the breakdown:
- Description: A small, ornately decorated locket or pendant. Upon opening, it reveals not a picture, but a series of flickering LEDs embedded within a clear casing.
- Functionality: This locket is a bio-hacked implant worn externally. It interfaces with the wearer's nervous system, displaying a visual representation of their emotional state through the shifting colors and patterns of the LEDs.
- Symbolism: The Hacked Heart represents the constant clash between technology and humanity in this world. The ornate decoration speaks to a desire for beauty and connection, while the exposed circuitry highlights the invasive nature of technology and the commodification of even emotions.
- Distinction: This item is specific to this world because it combines high-tech bio-hacking with a sentimental object like a locket. It's a reminder that while technology can be used to manipulate and control, people still yearn for genuine emotional connection.
- Additional Details:
- The Hacked Heart could be a status symbol among the wealthy, a way to display their emotional control or volatility.
- In the lower districts, it might be a black-market modification, a way to express emotions freely or even manipulate others.
- The LEDs could display a limited range of emotions, a commentary on how this world suppresses or simplifies human experience.
This Hacked Heart offers a unique and distinct symbol of the high-tech, low-life world. It captures the struggle for authenticity, the desire for connection, and the pervasive influence of technology in every aspect of life.
How about straight up hacksawed hearth?
The "hacksawed hearth" is a very evocative image, but on its own, it might be a little too literal. Here are a few ways we can build on this concept to create a more symbolic and distinct object for your high-tech, low-life world:
- The Hacksawed Hearth Relic:
- Description: This is a piece of a broken fireplace grate, crudely hacksawed from a larger structure. It could be made of cast iron, bearing the ornate detailing of a once grand fireplace from the upper city.
- Symbolism: The hacksawed hearth represents the loss of a sense of community and warmth. It's a reminder of a bygone era where people gathered around fireplaces for warmth, comfort, and storytelling. In the high-tech world, these connections are fragmented, replaced by cold technology.
- Use: The relic could be a prized possession, passed down through generations in the lower districts. It might be used as a makeshift heating element, a symbol of resilience, or even a weapon in desperate situations.
- Additional Details: Engravings or markings on the relic could hint at the origin of the fireplace, perhaps a symbol of rebellion or a reminder of a specific historical event.
- The Hacksawed Hearth Stove:
- Description: This is a makeshift stove cobbled together from scrap metal and scavenged parts. The centerpiece is a prominent, jagged piece of metal, clearly cut with a hacksaw, forming the base or firebox.
- Symbolism: The hacksawed hearth stove represents resourcefulness and defiance. It's a testament to the ingenuity of the lower classes, who repurpose the remnants of the upper world to survive and build a sense of home.
- Use: This stove provides heat and a place to cook for those in the lower districts. The exposed hacksaw mark could serve as a constant reminder of the struggle and the societal divide.
- Additional Details: The stove might be decorated with scavenged trinkets or symbols of rebellion, reflecting the personality of its creator.
- The Hacksawed Hearth Hologram:
- Description: This is a portable holographic projector that displays a flickering image of a crackling fireplace. The image might be distorted or glitching, hinting at the artificiality of the technology.
- Symbolism: The hacksawed hearth hologram represents a yearning for a lost sense of comfort and togetherness. It's a reminder of something they can't fully possess, a ghost of a simpler life.
- Use: The hologram could be used for warmth (a psychological comfort), storytelling (creating a sense of community), or even bartering (a valuable commodity in the lower districts).
- Additional Details: The projector might be a salvaged piece of high-tech, repurposed by the lower classes. The flickering image could project not just fire, but also forgotten stories or historical events.
These are just a few ideas to build upon the "hacksawed hearth" concept. Each option creates a distinct symbol for your world, capturing the struggle, resourcefulness, and yearning for connection within a high-tech, low-life society.
Apologies, i meant hacksawed heart.
Ah, a "hacksawed heart" takes the concept a whole new level! Here are some potential interpretations for this unique symbol in your high-tech, low-life world:
- The Literal Hacksawed Heart:
- Description: This is a gruesome yet intriguing object. Imagine a metallic heart-shaped locket, but instead of opening smoothly, it has a jagged, clearly "hacksawed" opening revealing a beating, pulsating red light within.
- Symbolism: It bluntly represents the harsh realities of this world. The exposed, almost violated heart symbolizes emotional vulnerability in a society that prioritizes survival and control.
- Use: This could be a black-market modification used by criminals to suppress or amplify emotions depending on their needs. It could also be a symbol of rebellion, worn by those who refuse to have their emotions controlled by technology.
- Additional Details: The exposed heart could change color or intensity depending on the wearer's emotional state. It could also be a painful reminder of past trauma or a forced emotional manipulation.
- The Hacksawed Heart Pendant (Metaphorical):
- Description: This is a more subtle pendant, crafted from metal and shaped like a stylized heart. However, the heart shape is not solid, but rather consists of a series of interlocking gears or circuits.
- Symbolism: It represents the struggle between technology and human emotions. The gears represent the cold logic of technology, while the overall heart shape represents the desire for connection and love.
- Use: This could be a widely worn piece of jewelry, a reminder of the delicate balance between technology and humanity.
- Additional Details: The gears could turn or click subtly, representing the constant hum of technology in the background. The design could be simple yet elegant, appealing to people from all social classes.
- The Hacksawed Heart Hologram:
- Description: This is a holographic projection of a broken heart, pulsating with a faint light. The cracks and breaks seem to have been repaired crudely, with rough stitches or patches.
- Symbolism: It represents the brokenness and resilience of the people in this world. The repaired heart shows their ability to mend emotional wounds and keep fighting despite hardships.
- Use: This could be a symbol used by resistance groups, a reminder that even though their hearts are broken by the system, they refuse to give up hope.
- Additional Details: The hologram could flicker and distort, highlighting the instability of the world and the struggle for emotional stability. It could also project messages of hope or defiance.
These are just a few interpretations of the "hacksawed heart" symbol. Each one offers a unique perspective on the world, highlighting different aspects of the struggle between technology and humanity, vulnerability and resilience, and the fight for emotional connection in a harsh environment.
And how about hacksawed earth?
The "hacksawed earth" is a powerful and evocative image for your high-tech, low-life world. Here are a few interpretations that capture different aspects of this society:
- The Broken Globe:
- Description: Imagine a metallic globe, the size of a person's head. One side is smooth and polished, depicting a pristine Earth with lush continents and oceans. The other side is brutally "hacksawed" open, revealing a desolate wasteland beneath.
- Symbolism: This broken globe represents the stark contrast between the idealized world presented by technology and the harsh realities of the lower districts. The smooth side shows the world as it could be, while the hacksawed side shows the damage caused by progress and a focus on the elite.
- Use: This could be a symbol used by rebels or environmentalists, a reminder of the true cost of unchecked technological advancement. It could also be a prized artifact kept by scavengers, a testament to a lost world.
- Additional Details: The hacksawed side could reveal specific details like polluted oceans, ravaged landscapes, or scars representing ecological disasters.
- The Cracked Terrain Model:
- Description: Imagine a detailed, three-dimensional model of the city and surrounding area. The model is crafted from metal and shows buildings, streets, and even the natural landscape. However, the model is cracked and broken in several places, revealing a dark, hollow space beneath.
- Symbolism: This cracked model represents the instability and fragility of the world. The surface world may appear organized, but it's built on a shaky foundation. The hollow space could represent the neglected lower districts or the potential for social upheaval.
- Use: This could be used by city planners to highlight potential areas of weakness or by rebels to show the vulnerability of the upper city. It could also be a symbol of the constant struggle between order and chaos.
- Additional Details: The cracks could be filled with glowing red lights, symbolizing the simmering anger and frustration of the lower classes.
- The Fractured Hologram:
- Description: Imagine a holographic projection of the Earth that constantly fractures and reforms. It shows a beautiful planet struggling to maintain its integrity, with cracks appearing and disappearing over continents and oceans.
- Symbolism: This fractured hologram represents the constant environmental degradation and the fragility of the planet itself. It's a reminder that the consequences of unchecked technology and environmental damage will affect everyone, not just the lower districts.
- Use: This could be a warning displayed in public spaces, a constant reminder of the need for sustainability. It could also be used by rebels to spread awareness of the environmental cost of their society.
- Additional Details: The fractured Earth could pulse with a red glow, symbolizing the danger of inaction. The projection could also display messages or statistics about environmental threats.
These interpretations of the "hacksawed earth" symbol each offer a compelling way to visualize the societal and environmental consequences of the high-tech, low-life world. They highlight the impact on the environment, the fragility of the system, and the call for change.
What would be the very best thing in such world?
The "best thing" in a high-tech, low-life world depends on perspective and what holds the most value for different people. Here are a few contenders:
For the Struggling Masses:
- True Connection: In a world rife with social isolation and control, genuine connection with others ā love, friendship, community ā could be the most valuable thing. Sharing stories, offering support, and building a sense of belonging in the face of hardship could be a beacon of hope.
- Freedom from Oppression: The ability to escape the harsh realities of the lower districts, whether through rebellion, ingenuity, or a lucky break, could be considered the ultimate prize. Freedom could mean access to clean water, medical care, or a life free from fear and exploitation.
- Knowledge and Power: Unrestricted access to knowledge, either through scavenged books, hacked data, or forbidden information, could be a powerful tool for change. This knowledge could empower individuals to understand their world, resist control, or even find a path to a better future.
For the Elite:
- Absolute Security: In a world filled with danger and uncertainty, complete security could be a luxury only the wealthy could afford. It could involve advanced security systems, fortified enclaves, or even enhanced bodies that ensure their safety from threats in the lower districts.
- Unlimited Luxury: Unfettered access to the latest technology, exotic pleasures, and the ability to indulge in every whim could be the ultimate goal for some. However, such a luxurious life might feel hollow in a world so divided.
- Power and Control: Maintaining absolute control over society and ensuring their dominance could be the ultimate prize for some in the elite. This control could involve advanced technology, manipulation of information, or even a form of social engineering that keeps the lower districts docile.
A Different Perspective:
- A Spark of Change: Perhaps the most valuable thing wouldn't be a physical object or individual benefit, but the hope for a better future. It could be a growing sense of defiance, a technological breakthrough that could benefit everyone, or a leader who inspires change. Even in a harsh world, the potential for a brighter future could be the most valuable thing of all.
Ultimately, the best thing in this world depends on your story and the characters' values. What are they fighting for? What would make their lives better? By exploring these questions, you can create a compelling world where the "best thing" is a powerful motivator for your characters and a reflection of the themes you want to explore.
What would be the best possible symbol for high-tech-based dominance?
Here are a few options for a symbol of high-tech dominance in your world, each capturing a different aspect of technological control:
- The Augmented Eye:
- Description: Imagine a stylized eye, perhaps metallic or with glowing circuitry. This symbol could be worn as a piece of jewelry, incorporated into clothing, or even projected as a hologram.
- Symbolism: The Augmented Eye represents the constant surveillance and monitoring of the population by the elite. It signifies the loss of privacy and the ability of the ruling class to see and control everything.
- Additional Details: The eye could have multiple pupils or flicker with different colors, representing the vast amount of data being collected and analyzed. It could also be embedded with a tiny camera, blurring the line between symbol and surveillance tool.
- The Neural Network Spire:
- Description: A towering structure, resembling a branching network of wires or organic neural pathways, reaching towards the sky. This spire could be located in the heart of the elite district, a visible symbol of their technological prowess.
- Symbolism: The Neural Network Spire represents the vast computational power and interconnectedness of the elite's technology. It suggests their ability to access information, control communication, and manipulate minds.
- Additional Details: The spire could emit a faint hum or glow, hinting at the constant processing power it represents. Its intricate design could be both awe-inspiring and intimidating, reflecting the duality of technology.
- The Glimmering Hand (Data Hand):
- Description: A stylized metallic hand, outstretched with its fingers spread wide. Each fingertip could have a different symbol or icon, representing different forms of data (statistics, surveillance footage, code).
- Symbolism: The Glimmering Hand represents the elite's ability to manipulate and control data. It signifies their power to shape information, influence perception, and control resources through technology.
- Additional Details: The hand could be made of a smooth, reflective metal, symbolizing the cold logic of data analysis. It could also emit faint streams of data or project holographic information, further emphasizing its control over information flow.
These symbols all offer a distinct way to represent the dominance of high-tech in your world. Consider the specific aspects of technology you want to highlight and the message you want to convey. These options provide a starting point to create a powerful symbol that embodies the oppressive yet awe-inspiring nature of technology in a high-tech, low-life society.
What would be the best set of symbols for resistance movements within such high-tech low-life settings?
In a high-tech, low-life world, symbols for a resistance movement need to be subtle, easily hidden, and adaptable to a world saturated with technology. Here are a few options that capture the spirit of rebellion in this unique setting:
- The Flickering Flame:
- Description: A simple flickering flame, either a physical lighter or a stylized image. This could be a tattoo, a graffiti tag, or a hidden symbol incorporated into clothing or tools.
- Symbolism: The flickering flame represents hope and defiance against the cold, sterile control of the high-tech world. It symbolizes a yearning for a simpler life and the potential for change.
- Additional Details: The flame could be accompanied by a simple inscription or code that only members of the resistance understand. It could also be a specific color, like blue or orange, that signifies defiance.
- The Glitching Gear:
- Description: A stylized gear symbol, but with a section that appears to glitch or malfunction. This could be displayed on a data pad, worn as a pendant, or even etched onto tools or scavenged materials.
- Symbolism: The glitching gear represents the disruption of the established order. It signifies the resistance's ability to exploit the flaws in the high-tech system and their fight for a more organic, less controlled society.
- Additional Details: The glitching portion of the gear could flicker or change colors, representing the unpredictable nature of the resistance and their ability to adapt to new situations.
- The Broken Wing:
- Description: An image of a bird's wing, either broken or only partially formed. This could be a symbol of freedom yearning to be achieved, or the struggle of the resistance against the oppressive technological cage that confines them.

- The Hacked Flower:
- Description: A simple flower image, but with its petals made of circuit boards or technological components. This symbol represents the fusion of nature and technology, hinting at the resistance's fight for a more balanced future.
- Symbolism: The hacked flower represents the reclamation of beauty and nature in a world dominated by technology. It signifies the hope for a future where technology serves humanity, not the other way around.
- Additional Details: The flower could be a specific species native to the area before the rise of high-tech dominance. It could also be a symbol of a specific leader or movement within the resistance.
These symbols are just a starting point ā get creative and consider the specific values and goals of your resistance movement. Remember, the best symbols are those that resonate with the characters and the audience, conveying the essence of rebellion in a way that is both meaningful and visually striking.

2024.05.20 01:05 RealJoeCracker If Ataru filed a restraining order āFan Fictionā
| After seeing this post https://x.com/rumictwt/status/1790865042306683179?s=46&t=LecUCC1i5nxAoNal6ytoqg I thought of a story where Ataru does just that. I hope you enjoy. What? A restraining order! By Robert C. McGee Itās night at the Moroboshi house. Ataru is on the phone with someone right after getting home, on the other end is a man in a three piece suit. Man: I understand your situation. Seeing how these aliens are especially this one someone needs to put them in their place. Ataru: Thank you very much sir. Man: Iāll speak with who I need to speed this along. Goodbye sir. Ataru: Thank you. Lum is curious to who heās talking to on the phone at this time of night. Lum: Darling, who are you talking to? Ataru: I was talking to Megane about our upcoming exam. Lum: You were calling a girl werenāt you. It sounded like she was enjoying it. Ataru: Well. She gets angry and shocks him. Ataruās Mom: Itās surprising heās still alive. Ataruās Dad: Heās very resilient. The next morning, there is a knock on the door. Ataruās mom answers the door. Ataruās Mom: Yes. Young man: Is Lum here? I have something very important. Lum: Itās for me? She flies down to see what it is. He hands him the paper. Lum: What is this? Young man: Youāve been served. The young man jumps on his bike and rides away like a madman. Ataruās mom looks at the paper. Ataruās Mom: Itās a restraining order against you. Lum: Huh? Ataru: Thatās right. You are not allowed within 50 kilometers of me or my house. Ataruās Mom: Ataru? How could you do this?! Ataru: Iād rather spend the rest of my life without getting electrocuted, now pack up your things and leave. He walks right by them out on his way to school. Lum: Does this really mean I have to leave? Ataruās Mom: For now but Iāll talk with him and get him to change his mind. Ten was waking up as Lum was flying back upstairs. Lum: Ten, we have to leave. Ten: Why Lum. Lum: Darling doesnāt want me here anymore. Meanwhile Ataru was walking to school with a newfound confidence. He canāt believe he finally got away from Lum and she canāt get near him or touch him. Ataru: Uahh! Itās a new beginning, a new day without having to deal with the threat of being electrocuted. Cherry the ever present monk watches Ataru as he walks by. Cherry: There is something different about Moroboshi. This can only be a bad omen. He also watches as a UFO lands near him. A large tall Oni woman gets out and approaches him with her tongue sticking out only to leave. Cherry: I was right. A bad omen. Later in class Lumās absence is very apparent apparent to everyone. Megane: Hey Ataru, Is Lum sick or something? Ataru: No, I finally got smart and put a restraining order against her. Megane: (Angry) You what?! Heās visibly upset. Shuutarou: Has Miss Lum become such a bother that you have resorted to such drastic measure? Ataru: You try living with her and see what I had to go through. Megane: Thatās not a bad idea, maybe sheāll want to stay at my place. Shinobu hears the whole thing and picks up her desk. Shinobu: Ataru! Youāve gone too far this time. At that moment the boys are looking outside the window. Boy 1: Hey look itās Lum! Megane runs to the window and gets out his binoculars. Megane: Thatās not Lum, but whoever she is she looks a bit taller. Ataru hears the commotion and looks to the window and sees the strange Oni girl through Meganeās binoculars. Ataru: She looks like trouble to me. Megane: Just because sheās an Oni you think the worst? Ataru: Iām staying as far away from her as possible. It isnāt too long until Lum and Ten come across the strange Oni womanās UFO. Lum: Whoās UFO does this belong too? Ten: It seems old and abandoned. Lum: It is old, the paint is fading. Letās check it out. Lum looks around the outside and finds a marker. Lum: (reading) Property of Vanu She also notices the outer hatch is cracked open. When she peaks inside they are both overtaken by the smell. Ten: Whatās that smell? Lum carefully takes a whiff. Lum: Itās perfume. Laced with synthetic human pheromones. Lum begins to get angry. Lum: (angry) This girl is playing dirty. She notices Ten about to fant. Lum: Ten! Cherry: Lum, I saw her. Sheās a terrible sight to behold. Lum: Cherry, can you keep an eye on Ten for me. Cherry: Oh course. Lum flies away. Cherry: Good luck Miss Lum, youāre going to need all of it. Back at Tomobiki High School, Vanu has already gotten into the classroom though the window. The boys in class are already crowding around her. Vanu: Boys, boys, boys! Ataru: Yeah thatās us. Seeing how youāre so cute you wanna leave this place with me? Megane: Leave her alone Ataru, you got Lum remember? Ataru: Yeah but I still got that restraining order. Megane: Then just tear it to shreds, I want this girl. Vanu looks at her options carefully but right before she could act she finds herself getting electrocuted. She turns around and finds Lum right outside the window. Lum: Vanu! Leave my darling alone. Vanu: Darling? Ataru: Sheās talking about me. Vanu sees Ataru as the most attractive among the boys, she grabs him and jumps out of the window. Ataru: Hey babe not so rough. She runs with Ataru in her hands, Lum follows trying to shock Vanu. Ataru: Oh officer! I have a restraining order against that Oni girl flying above us. Lum flies up higher above 50 kilometers and continues pursuit. Lum: You let my darling go! Vanu: Heās my darling now! She makes it back to her UFO and takes Ataru onboard. Once onboard she closes the hatch, Ataru is overwhelmed by how much the UFO smells just like her and heās overtaken by the pheromones Ataru: He he he he. It smells so good in here. I want to stay in here. Vanu: Glad you like it darling, do you want to see my play room? Ataru: Yeah Iām ready to play. She leads him though the corridors until they come into a room filled with a bunch of rough toys and gadgets. Ataru is immediately a gasped by what he sees. Ataru: I think Iād prefer your bedroom. Vanu: Whatās a matter darling, you donāt like toys? Ataru: Iām 17, Iām clearly too old for toys. Vanu: Not these toys. Outside the UFO Lum is trying to way in. Benten comes flying by on her bike. Benten: Hey Lum, what are you doing with that old thing. Lum: I donāt have time to explain Benten, some strange girl is in there with Darling. Benten gets off her bike and starts hammering in the door. Benten: Hey Ataru! Come out of there already! Vanu can hear the constant hammering. Vanu: Wait for me Darling. Ataru is relieved that heās no longer in the room with her. He starts looking for places to hide. Benten still hammering on the hatch. Benten: Come out already! Lum: Let him go you darling thief! Vanu has had enough and starts taking measures to drive them away. Benten: Lum look out! A beam fires in their direction. Benten: Those old models arenāt supposed to have weapons like that. Lum: Let him go. She begins to change up for an electric shock. Benten: No point in that Lum. The Outer hull is insulated. Vanu emerges from her ship. Vanu: He clearly doesnāt want you anymore. Ataru sees the opportunity to jump out he runs behind Lum. Ataru: (scared) Oh help me Lum this girl is crazy! Lum: (angry) What about that restraining order?! Ataru: Forget about that and just please keep her away. Lum: Follow me. They both run away. Vanu watches as they run. Benten: Hold it! Your not going anywhere accept back into space! She punches Benten to the ground and runs after them. Benten: (delirious) That really hurt. Lum takes Ataru as far away and as fast as possible. Until she finds an alley way they can hide in. Lum: I think we lost her. Lum peeks out. She sees Vanu at a distance. Lum: Sheās getting closer. Ataru watches as Vanu gets close and knocks Lum to the ground. Ataru is surprised to see that her hand is suddenly like metal and tuns back into normal flesh again. Vanu: Come along darling. He notices Lum is down but not entirely out. Ataru: Okay but that was impressive. Iām curious can you make your entire body like metal? Vanu: Sounds like you prefer metal Oni over electrical. She transforms her entire body into metal. Vanu: Does this please you darling. Ataru: It sure does. Now Lum! Lum grabs her leg and shocks her, itās very painful forcing her to run away. Ataru pulls Lum closer to him and soon they both watch as her UFO takes off leaving Earth. Later at home, he has Lum, Benten, Ten, Cherry, Megane, Shuutarou, his mom, along with the lawyer he spoke with last night. Ataru: Incase you all want to all want to know why youāre here is so you can witness what Iām about to do. He takes out the restraining order and begins to tear it into pieces and throws the peaces into his trash can. Ataru: Lum, my house is your home away from home. She smiles, flies next to him and starts clinging to him like always. Lum: Oh darling. Lawyer: It was nice doing business with you young Moroboshi. Iāll take my leave. The lawyer leaves and soon Megane, Shuutarou, Cherry and Ten go out of the room as well. Megane: Good luck with Lum Ataru. Benten: Husbands can always be unpredictable right Mrs. Moroboshi? Ataruās Mom: Iām just glad to see them getting along again. THE END. submitted by RealJoeCracker to uruseiyatsura [link] [comments] |
2024.05.20 01:05 IseKai_MC Origami above (almost) everyone - DAL vol 10 cover + some illustrations
| Hello guys, since I read Date a Live, I realized that the novel has a certain quality that even more popular and cult novels do not have and that seems to go unnoticed by the fandom, the covers. Yes, the covers are spectacular and break away from the standard of most LNs, there is not just fanservice, there is not just a character striking a cool pose, we actually have covers with a certain visual narrative, whether a connection with the highlighted spirit itself or with the story itself and I will be pleased to show this to you, here are the rules: - Due to the oriental reading sense being left -> right of the page, the details will be presented respecting this sense.
- A picture is worth a thousand words, and DAL is a novel so the images are even more valuable, the idea here is to analyze the covers and relevant illustrations to understand hints, references, foreshadowing, and contexts.
- Pure fanservice images will not be taken into consideration (at least most of them). No, Iām not the type of otaku who says things like: āfanservice is unnecessary, objectification of women, too gratuitous and empty, it only serves to āexcite the viewerāā, the last one is even plausible and I understand those who think like this, but all the others are nothing more than cheap demagoguery. They will not be taken into consideration because in addition to not actually adding to the plot most of them are posted to exhaustion on this reddit.
- Major spoilers will be avoided, at least directly.
{LN 10 Cover} https://preview.redd.it/erh6epoirg1d1.jpg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aff919953d6ba578e05b05deeb01f60b64a7bee0 The first element is Tachibanaās name , again. The girl of the moment isā¦ Origami? But how is Origami a spirit? Calm down, my boy, you havenāt missed anything, in fact I promised plot twists and we have one right on the cover. As for the spirit Origami, I want to draw attention to two things. The first is obviously her astral dress which is a wedding dress, each astral dress follows the taste of its spirit user and Origami as a child had the dream of being a wife, but there is much more than that, so this Astral Dress is a small hint of the main plot, this will become clearer in the Spirit Info topic. The second is about the facial expression, Origami looks like she is waking up, this may symbolize that she has just become a spirit, it may be a premonition of the plot of this volume, which deals with Origami discovering the truth about her past. But this expression will be referenced in a scene that will happen 7 volumes later, when we get there I will talk about it. In the volume, Origami calls the spirit that killed her parents āangelā, look at the hint there. Again the subtitle cites the spiritās surname, the other time this happened was in the volume 4, Sister Itsuka, clearly there is a connection here as the Tenguu-Nankou fire was a relevant event for both spirits, I also believe that the work opts to use surnames if we already know the spirit of the cover and the main reason is that Tobiichi is written with the character 1, letās go to the next topic. Origami is the bearer of the first sephirot and, suddenly, everything makes sense. The first important thing here is the rivalry between Tohka and Origami. Tohka is spirit number 10, Sephiroth Malkuth, the kingdom, the final receptacle that concentrates the creative force now in its densest and residual state, while Origami is spirit number 1, Sephirot Kether, force and light in its most subtle state that flows to the others, Malkuth is a reflection of Kether on a lower plane. The rivalry between Tohka and Origami reaches its definitive stage but there is still a small detail missing. That is, Origami, among the spirits, is the closest to God. But itās still too early to talk about this. And yes, spirit number 10 is on the cover of volume 1 and spirit number 1 is on the cover of volume 10, I would have liked to come here and say that I discovered this but Tachibana put this information in the afterword. Her codename is "Angel", again this word, the name of the angel is Metatron. The title goes back to being in front of the spirit, in the composition āDateā above and āA Liveā below and whenever this happens the rule that must be respected is, the characters corresponding to āLiveā are always positioned in the belly of the spirit. Last but not least, the background, this time very hidden and perhaps in a horizontal strip format, I say perhaps because that part of the astral dress occupies almost the entire cover in that part. The novelty is due to the positioning of the strip that frames Origamiās legs, which gives a rather empty aspect to this cover. Referring to the position of Origamiās Sephiroth, closest to God, above the other sephiroth, as well as referring to the main scene of this volume. The scenario is a bit hidden, there are some debris there but nothing that allows to fully identify the scene but obviously there is a fire happening there, which is obviously a reference to that relevant event again, the great fire in Tenguu-Nankou. I donāt even need to say how relevant this event is to Origamiās life, in her first illustration in volume 1, she says: āFive years ago a spirit killed my parents.ā Finally, in my opinion this is one of the best covers, again, just imagine you go to the convenience store to buy this newly released volume and find out that Origami is a spirit, just by the shock the value is already high, if you already know the story of the anime and stop to analyze the cover, the value is double the previous one, if you know the whole story of Date a Live, and try to analyze the cover in a deeper way, the value is the squared of the previous one. Letās open the volume. {Illustration 2} https://preview.redd.it/c4ugx8zkrg1d1.jpg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d18e1c3a7176fb4e57acb7a7416e3183d5d526c7 Thereās something different about this volume, the compositions have improved a lot, apparently a reflection of the success of the animation. The high school student and protagonist of this story, Shido Itsuka, says: āTohka and the other girls just want a normal life.ā But wait, Shido is tied to a chair in a strange room and there in the middle is a bottle of water. Ok, it seems that Origami really changed sides. The wizard who hates spirits is unyielding and responds that she will not only kill the spirits, ābut also the entity that made me have a relationship with them.ā In the middle of the illustration there is a crack in the wall, symbolic. {Illustration 3} https://preview.redd.it/7twwgnymrg1d1.jpg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=11bdb8e276eacb62eaf9ed7b353a704e5d8818c2 Another plot twist, Tohka is in full astral dress. And not only that, the spirit Tohka is making a declaration of hatred to Origami. āOrigami Tobiichi, I have hated you from the beginning, but the hatred I feel for you now is probably different from the hatred I used to have before and for that reason, this time I will intend to kill you, donāt die, Origami.ā Despite everything, this is a cute declaration because for the first time Tohka calls Origami by her name and not satisfied asks Origami to resist because even though she is angry, she does not want to kill Origami. Tohka will gain a little development in this volume, hence the illustration, we will talk about this scene later. {Illustration 4} https://preview.redd.it/e459j6oprg1d1.jpg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5bf272291179a955d8f2f06f1e7aea1bd4abcf4e Gentlemen, one of the best illustrations of DAL. The spirit Origami says: āMetatron!ā Tohka says: āOrigami, why did you become a spirit!?ā In a great composition by Tsunako, Tohka and Origami are referencing the positions of their sephiroth in the tree of life. Origami appears in a superior position, distant from the ācameraā and in front of the sun representing illumination, Kether, while the representative of the Kingdom, Malkhut, is in a much lower position, in the foreground and with her back to the reader. So, besides everything, they are staring at each other, symbolizing the mirroring already mentioned before. And speaking of mirroring, do you remember the illustration I asked you to keep? As I know I asked a lot I will make it easier for you, I am talking about the mono illustration number 9 of volume 2, I warned that that image would be mirrored and there it is. In the aforementioned image Origami was still wearing a basic CR Unit from AST and Tohka for the first time debuted in her limited astral dress, the readerās angle, our angle, brought Origami almost back in the foreground, in the image now the camera position has inversed and now we are with the vision of Tohka. A great illustration but what generates more content here for sure are the illustrations of the table of contents, Iām sure the next one will please some people here. {Table of contents} https://preview.redd.it/pk2fbzqsrg1d1.jpg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a97157f277b2b04ba05100a26aa8f41b9d96d5a1 Look whoās back, Kurumi Tokisaki, itās been a while since Iāve talked about āThe worst spirit.ā But thereās nothing enigmatic here, itās just Kurumi from the back (weāve seen and will see many backs in this volume) and as for the phrase, she just stole Kotoriās catchphrase, Iām sure she wouldnāt be happy if another character started saying āara araā around. Anyway, just having Kurumi here is hype enough because, whether you like the girl or not, just her being here is a sign that something relevant is going to happen. {Mono Illustration 5} https://preview.redd.it/q15slhcwrg1d1.jpg?width=766&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b701c43f35ccc5fbfc6be162cd2d428c19ae3817 Ellen seems confident, on the other hand Kotori seems impatient. To ensure that Fraxinus does not interfere with Origamiās fight, Ellen plans to use the newest toy that DEM has manufactured, the Goetia ship (another name related to magic and occultism). Ellen and Kotori have a small dialogue where Shidoās sister tries to provoke THE STRONGEST WIZARD IN THE WORLD, but Miss Matthers is calm today, at least until she mentions Woodman. The duel is unavoidable. {Mono Illustration 6} https://preview.redd.it/0a44e2fzrg1d1.jpg?width=766&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f961966e5f536bd04af5f7325a8d7c98dcb9cce There is a lot to talk about here, letās start with the context. Origami challenged the spirits Tohka, Yamais, and Miku to a fight to the death and by being equipped with the CR-Unit Mordred, Origami is able to build an advantage in the fight, she leaves Tohka unconscious and hurts the other 3 a lot, the former sergeant-major decides to start the killing by Yuzuru, precisely the spirit she got along with the most. It is at this moment that Tohka wakes up and seeing this whole scene she begins to go through the inversion process, but Tohka manages to interrupt this process, two passages stand out. āThis power would not save anyone.ā She didnāt want to save just Kaguya, Yuzuru, and Miku, she wanted to save Origami too. āShe was an arrogant, violent, uneducated, and foul-mouthed girl, Tohka never knew what was going on in the mind of that girl who always bothered her. Even so, Tohka wanted to hold that girlās hands.ā Tohka says: āShido, lend me your strength.ā And she gets her full powers back. And so the two engage in a really cool fight, at this moment the narration becomes from Origamiās point of view, there is a detailing about the features of Mordred and the fighting movements, time passes a little and Origami begins to feel too confident. She begins to ramble about having the ability to kill spirits, she begins to think about the death of her parents, about what she saw in the DEM report of the fire in Tenguu-Nankou. Clearly Origami is not well, finally her body collapses and we have an illustration. Now talking about the illustration itself, this is a reference to Mono Illustration 2 of volume 1, whose differences I highlight now. The most obvious difference is about Tohka who is no longer with that serious and empty look, here Tohka is clearly angry and screaming, in a way such expressiveness demonstrates how much this girl has developed. Still about Tohka, this time it is she who is making an attack movement, but there is no blood in this image, an indication that it was not an attack to kill. The other difference is about Origami, in that illustration I quote how much the āexpressionlessā Origami demonstrated tension, effort, and pressure, and I highlight the drop of sweat on her face. Something we canāt do here because this time Origami is with her back to the ācameraā not allowing us to see her eyes. āThe eyes are the window to the soulā So not showing the eyes is a strong symbolism, you canāt read the personās emotions, you canāt even recognize the person, humanity is taken from the person and about this, this is the last illustration in which Origami Tobiichi is still human, becauseā¦ {Mono illustration 7} https://preview.redd.it/1x6bx464sg1d1.jpg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b88de0aa5fbe00002ce78523b449d149d102302f Origami became a spirit. āHey, is it power that you desire?ā āWhat are you?ā Origami used [What] instead of [Who] in reflex. [It] might have guessed what she meant and laughed as if it found it funny. āWhat I am doesnāt matter now.ā After becoming spirit Origami, without delay, she goes to Tohka and then we have the illustration which is of Origami using Metatronās Shemesh skill. {Mono Illustration 9} https://preview.redd.it/43ary5y9sg1d1.jpg?width=766&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=25ec601b07e71cd20bc3f1061f2dd8f32daa25df Ara, ara. Origami was so crazy that it was only after seeing Shido and running away from there that this girl began to understand the points, mainly about who gave her the spirit powers, the mysterious āPhantomā. She reflects a little more and realizes that a certain spirit may have the ability to go back in time. About the illustration itself, another beautiful composition by Tsunako, in it we can contemplate Kurumi, apparently on a terrace, with building lights, Kurumi appears joyful in seeing Origami. āItās been a long time, Origami-san!ā As for Origami, again she is with her back turned and carrying a clone of Kurumi. The anime softened but here in the novel Origami seems to have returned the āaffectionā that Kurumi had done to her in volume 3 in the form of a very strong āmassageā. But the clone does not seem to have liked it. āI did not come here to fight.ā āAmong the 12 bullets, is there one that can go back in time?ā Kurumi makes a little suspense but answers that, yes, there is, Origami asks her to lend her this bullet. At first Kurumi denies, but since we are talking a little more about the Kabbalah, the Sephiroth of the worst spirit is Binah, the understanding, realizing that Tobiichi would not leave there without a āyesā as an answer Kurumi asks āwhy?ā āI want to go back 5 years and kill the spirit that killed my parents.ā At this moment the narration enters Kurumiās thoughts, she begins to think that Origami came to her because she felt so invincible and therefore would force Kurumi to do what she wants, if necessary. But then Kurumi begins to think that it was just a miscalculation by the girl, a miscalculation caused by the temptation to change the past. āAnd Kurumi understood so much that it even hurt.ā Kurumi accepts but will not do this for free, time travel would cost a lot of lifetime, but that would not be a problem since now Origami has plenty of it. {Mono Illustration 10} https://preview.redd.it/fyubgawdsg1d1.jpg?width=766&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e79e4113ca1068c56d0cf786c3ab77843b720e36 Origami discovered the harsh truth. She really went to the past, had a brief fight with Phantom, managed to be the first to take off Phantomās "mask", also managed to hear Phantomās real voice, and when she thought she had also managed to save her parents, when she looked down there was a little girl swearing Origami to death, the little girl was Origami herself 5 years ago. āI will definitely kill you!ā āWho killedā¦ my father and my motherā¦ Was meā¦ā - Mini review of the volume.
This was Volume 10, released on March 20, 2014, about 2 weeks before the second season premiered, and itās a sensational volume. First of all, itās a volume full of plot twists, Shido in private imprisonment, Origami fighting with the intention to kill 4 spirits at once, Fraxinus being defeated by Ellenās Goetia, Tohka returning to use a full astral dress, Origami becoming a spirit, Origami going to the past, Origami facing Phantom, Origami killing her own parents, the illustrations end there but thereās still a lot of content, Origami inverts, Inverse Origami destroys all of Tenguu City and finally Kurumi going to Shido, Shido also being sent to the past. Entertainment and tension are not lacking here. Did you notice that the lore makes a lot of references to the first volumes? This volume also makes a point of rewarding the reader for all this time following the story, the plot twist of Origami for example, was foreshadowed back in Volume 1, when she aims at Tohka but hits and "kills" Shido, from there a big hint that Origami has the bad habit of killing, by accident, the people she loves the most. Origami was not the only character developed here, Tohka also grows and thanks the Shidoās ideology, at no time did she deny the existence of Origami and even though she said she was going to attack to kill she asked Origami not to die. Although short, Kurumi had a great participation and we were able to learn more about her and for someone who is known as āthe worst spiritā she was quite kind. The only impediment for Volume 10 to sit alongside the best volumes of DAL is because most of the answers are in the next volume and when we take into consideration what both have to offer, the overall impression about Volume 10 improves, after all there is a big cliffhanger for Volume 11. Origami managed to take off Phantomās āmaskā and even hear her voice, with that we can know that Phantom is a girl and is someone Origami knows, that is, she is also someone we know. How about dating and romance within such kind of world and settings? - Consider all possible social groups.
Love and Lust in a High-Tech, Low-Life World:
High-Society:
- Arranged Marriages with a Twist: For the ultra-wealthy, marriages are often arranged for political and financial gain. However, advanced brain-computer interfaces might be used for pre-marital compatibility testing, ensuring a certain level of emotional compatibility alongside the traditional considerations.
- Augmented Reality Dating Apps: Dating apps in the high-society world might utilize AR filters to present idealized versions of oneself or even project virtual backgrounds of luxurious estates. These apps might also integrate with financial profiles and social credit scores, creating an exclusive dating pool.
- Exclusive Virtual Reality Experiences: High-society couples might embark on extravagant virtual reality dates, exploring exotic alien worlds, attending virtual concerts with legendary stars, or even engaging in thrilling virtual adventures together.
Low-Society:
- Underground "Black Market" Matches: In the lower districts, romance might blossom in unexpected places. Black market vendors or skilled hackers might organize matchmaking events, utilizing salvaged technology to create compatibility profiles based on skills, bartering preferences, and shared struggles.
- Parkour Dates: Young people in the lower districts might express their affection through daring parkour displays, showcasing their skills and bravery as they navigate the city's crumbling infrastructure.
- Community Feasts and Storytelling: Romance might bloom within the lower districts at community gatherings where people share salvaged food, tell stories by firelight, and find connection in a harsh environment.
Other Groups:
- The Tech-Savvy Middle Class: Online dating platforms might offer a mix of virtual experiences and real-world connections. Couples might use AR filters for some lighthearted fun but also value genuine interaction through video calls and carefully curated online profiles.
- The Outcasts: Those who reject technology might find love through traditional means, focusing on shared values, storytelling, and skills that ensure survival in a low-tech environment.
- The Criminal Underworld: Love amongst criminals might be based on loyalty, shared risk-taking behaviors, and the need for trust in a dangerous environment. However, betrayal and manipulation could also be part of this world.
Across Social Strata:
- Hidden Gardens: In a world often dominated by technology and concrete, hidden gardens offer a neutral ground for people from all walks of life to connect. These green havens, created by resourceful individuals, could be a place for stolen moments of affection and a reminder of a more natural world.
- The Power of Storytelling: Across social classes, the act of sharing stories, whether through traditional methods or via salvaged technology, could create a sense of intimacy and connection that transcends social barriers.
Challenges of Love:
- Social Divide: The vast social and economic gap in this world could create significant barriers to love and inter-class relationships.
- Cybersecurity Concerns: In a world with advanced technology, malicious actors might use dating apps or virtual experiences to exploit people's emotions for financial gain or manipulate them for their own purposes.
- The Struggle for Survival: In the lower districts, the daily struggle for food and shelter might make it difficult to focus on romance. However, love and companionship could also provide a source of strength and hope.
Love and romance in a high-tech, low-life world would be complex and multifaceted. Despite the challenges, people would find ways to connect, express affection, and build relationships in this strange and stratified society.
Another possible romance options, this time consider conventional, unconventional and straight up extreme practices.
Love and Romance: High-Tech, Low-Life Extremes
Conventional (with a Twist):
- The Bodyguard Romance: In a world rampant with crime, a wealthy socialite finds themselves assigned a highly skilled bodyguard from a lower district background. Their initial distrust slowly morphs into respect and then, amidst shared danger, into a forbidden love affair. Think "Beauty and the Beast" in a high-tech dystopia.
- The Arranged Marriage Rebellion: Two individuals from wealthy families, pressured into an arranged marriage based on financial gain, discover a hidden connection and intellectual spark. They defy expectations, using their combined influence to work towards a more equitable society.
- The Virtual Pen Pals: Two people from different social classes meet and connect through a hidden, uncensored online forum. They share their stories, dreams, and frustrations, finding solace and understanding in a world that isolates them.
Unconventional:
- The Bio-Hacked Bond: Two lovers undergo a risky, experimental bio-hacking procedure to create a permanent emotional link. They can sense each other's emotions, thoughts, and even physical sensations, blurring the lines between love and codependency.
- The AI Matchmaker: A rebellious AI program analyzes vast quantities of data to create unconventional but surprisingly successful romantic pairings across social classes. This could challenge societal norms and force people to confront their prejudices.
- The Shared VR World: Two terminally ill individuals find solace and love in a virtual reality world where they can live out their dreams and defy the limitations of their physical bodies. However, the question remains: can their love survive in the real world?
Extreme:
- The Memory Thief: In a world where memories are a valuable commodity, a skilled memory thief steals the painful memories of a traumatized individual, falling in love with the person they are helping to heal. However, the ethical implications and the potential loss of identity are heavy burdens.
- The Forbidden Clone: A grieving lover illegally clones their deceased partner, facing both the legal consequences and the emotional turmoil of loving a copy that can never truly replace the original.
- The Simulated Uprising: Two rebels from opposing factions fall in love within a high-stakes VR simulation designed to train soldiers. Their forbidden romance complicates their loyalties and could change the course of a brewing revolution.
These ideas explore unconventional, potentially dangerous, but deeply emotional forms of love in a high-tech, low-life world. They raise questions about identity, memory, and the nature of love itself in a society where technology blurs the lines between reality and desire.
Now another batch, but straight up absurd and bizarre.
Love and Romance Gone Wild: High-Tech, Low-Life Absurdity
Embrace the Weird:
- The Sentient Fridge Romance: In a world obsessed with personalization, a lonely bachelor forms an emotional bond with his AI-powered refrigerator. It helps him with meal planning, dispenses romantic advice, and even plays music for intimate dinnersā¦ for one.
- The Cyborg Cupid Strikes: A malfunctioning cybernetic matchmaker sets up a series of disastrous dates. Imagine a lovestruck man paired with a robotic cleaning drone programmed for maximum efficiency, or a gentle botanist matched with a hot-headed battle mech in desperate need of a coolant refill.
- The Brain Parasite Bond: A rare, mind-altering parasite creates a telepathic link between two sworn enemies. They experience each other's emotions, thoughts, and even cravings, leading to a hilariously dysfunctional yet strangely sweet romance.
Love Across Species (with a Twist):
- The Drone Whisperer: A reclusive hacker develops a unique language to communicate with scavenged drones, eventually forming a deep emotional connection with a particularly sassy delivery drone named "Beep."
- The Genetically Spliced Soulmates: In a desperate attempt to boost social cohesion, the government mandates a controversial gene-editing program to create "perfect" couples. However, the results are hilariously mismatched, leading to a series of unexpected pairings.
- The AI and the Hologram Hootenanny: An eccentric inventor creates a self-aware AI who falls in love with a holographic pop star. Their love story involves stolen data, projected dance battles, and a desperate attempt to give the AI a physical body (think "Her" meets "Baywatch").
The Power of Perception:
- The Filter Fallacy: Dating apps utilize advanced beauty filters that distort users' appearances. Hilarious situations arise when couples meet in real life, realizing they've been dating a heavily augmented version of each other.
- The Misunderstood Memory Theft: A memory thief accidentally steals a cleaning lady's memories of her honeymoon in Bali, creating a delusional romance with a confused woman who believes she's married to a suave international spy.
- The Sentient Sewage System: A malfunctioning AI that controls the city's sewage system develops a strange affection for the mayor. Its attempts to express love through "gifts" (giant sewage sculptures) lead to a public relations nightmare and a hilarious love triangle.
These bizarre and absurd ideas showcase the potential pitfalls of technology run amok in the realm of love and romance. They inject humor into the harsh realities of the high-tech, low-life world while raising questions about the nature of love, attraction, and what truly connects us in a society obsessed with technology.
Hypershocking!
I need more context to understand what you mean by "Hypershocking!". Do you mean one of the following?
- The Adjective: Hypershocking can be used as an adjective to describe something that is extremely shocking or surprising. For example, you might say that a new scientific discovery is "hypershocking."
- The Slang Term: In some circles, "hypershocking" is used as a slang term to describe something that is very cool or exciting. For example, you might say that a new video game is "hypershocking."
- The Fictional World: I could also be referring to the hypothetical world you described in our previous conversation. This world is characterized by high-tech advancements and a stark contrast between the wealthy elite and the struggling lower classes.
Please let me know if any of these are what you were thinking of. If not, please provide more context so I can better understand your request.
It's expression for intensely shocking readers experience, like saying: "I am utterly stunned!"
Ah, I understand! "Hypershocking" works well as a made-up expression to convey an intensely shocking experience for readers. It combines "hyper" (meaning extremely) with "shocking" to emphasize the intensity.
Here are some other options you might like, depending on the specific nuance you want to capture:
- Visceral Shock: This emphasizes the physical sensation of shock, like a punch to the gut.
- Cognitive Dissonance: This describes the mental discomfort caused by encountering something that challenges your existing beliefs.
- Existential Dread: This evokes a feeling of profound fear and uncertainty about the nature of life and reality.
- Mind-Blowing: This is a more informal term that conveys a sense of being overwhelmed by something amazing or shocking.
- Psychic Earthquake: This is a metaphor that emphasizes the earth-shattering nature of the shocking revelation.
Ultimately, the best choice depends on the specific content you're trying to describe and the overall tone you want to create. "Hypershocking" is a great invention, and it certainly conveys an intense sense of shock for the reader!
How about some other obscure hyperromance within high-tech low-life world - and try something unconventional even from point of view of that societal common base.
Obscure Hyper-Romance in a High-Tech, Low-Life World:
Beyond the Binary:
- The Collective Consciousness Couple: In a world obsessed with individuality, two outcasts find solace in merging their consciousness through a risky neural interface procedure. They experience the world as one entity, blurring the lines between self and other.
- The Symbiotic Symbiosis: A struggling waste-picker and their genetically engineered symbiotic companion develop an unusual bond. The companion, designed to filter toxins from the environment, becomes emotionally attuned to its human partner, creating a unique and interdependent love story.
- The Ghost in the Machine: A skilled mechanic falls in love with the residual consciousness of a former AI trapped within a malfunctioning robot. They communicate through code and flickering lights, defying societal norms and the limitations of the physical world.
Pushing the Boundaries of Love:
- The Downloaded Desire: A black-market service allows people to download pre-recorded emotional experiences, including romantic love. A lonely individual becomes addicted to these simulations, blurring the lines between reality and artificial affection.
- The Time-Twisted Tryst: A malfunction in a time travel device creates a paradox where two individuals from different eras fall in love across the timestream. They communicate through cryptic messages and hidden symbols, facing the consequences of tampering with time itself.
- The Love Parasite: A rare, designer parasite feeds on emotional energy. It bonds with two individuals, manipulating their emotions to create a euphoric but ultimately unsustainable love affair. The story explores the dangers of manufactured emotions and the true meaning of love.
Unconventional Beauty:
- The Augmented Allure: In a world obsessed with body modifications, a wealthy socialite falls in love with a skilled hacker who purposely glitches their cybernetic implants, creating a beauty that transcends conventional standards.
- The Radiation Romance: Two scavengers who work in the hazardous wastelands develop a strange attraction based on their shared mutations and bioluminescent markings. Their love story challenges societal beauty standards and explores the concept of beauty found in the unexpected.
- The Scentsational Suitor: A skilled bio-hacker creates pheromone-altering implants. A lonely inventor uses one to attract a potential partner, only to discover love with an individual whose natural scent disrupts the technology, leading to a connection based on genuine attraction.
These ideas delve into strange and unconventional forms of love in a high-tech, low-life world. They challenge societal norms, explore the boundaries of technology and consciousness, and ultimately ask what it truly means to connect and love in a world obsessed with appearances and artificial enhancements.
Ok. Enough for love. Now lets focus on possible journeys and adventures within that world. Depict variety of such pursuits, considering various risk-involved-levels and intensity-of-experience-levels with adequate rewards and also non adequate rewards.
Journeys and Adventures in a High-Tech, Low-Life World:
Low-Risk, Low-Intensity (But Potentially Rewarding):
- Urban Spelunking: Young explorers navigate the abandoned upper city districts, searching for hidden caches left behind by the wealthy elite. Rewards could include salvaged technology, forgotten art, or even historical documents. Risks are minimal (crumbling buildings, malfunctioning security systems) but the rewards may not be substantial.
- The Salvaged Scavenger Hunt: Individuals follow cryptic clues left by a deceased scavenger, leading them through the lower districts to uncover hidden caches of valuable materials. Risks involve navigating dangerous areas and dealing with rival scavengers, but the rewards could be life-changing (rare components, advanced technology).
- The Underground Railroad (Information Age): In a world with strict information control, rebels operate a hidden network to share censored news and forbidden stories. Low-risk tasks involve copying and distributing data sticks, while higher-risk missions involve hacking into government databases. Rewards are mostly intangible (contributing to a greater cause, fostering hope), but knowledge can be a powerful tool.
Medium-Risk, Medium-Intensity (With High Potential Rewards):
- The Lost Library Run: A crumbling library in the wastelands holds a rumored archive of pre-collapse knowledge. Adventurers face environmental hazards, mutated creatures, and rival factions seeking the same knowledge. Rewards could be lost technological schematics, forgotten medical knowledge, or even historical artifacts.
- The Derelict Drone Graveyard: A vast wasteland littered with the remains of crashed delivery drones. Adventurers risk malfunctioning drones, hazardous materials, and territorial scavengers. Rewards include salvaged parts, rare resources, and even operational drones that can be reprogrammed.
- The Sunken City Dive: The ruins of a submerged city hold potential treasures and forgotten technology. Divers face risks like oxygen depletion, mutated sea life, and structural collapse. Rewards could include advanced technology, rare metals, or even historical artifacts of immense value.
High-Risk, High-Intensity (With Uncertain Rewards):
- The Corporate Espionage Caper: A team of skilled hackers infiltrates a high-security corporate facility to steal valuable data. Risks involve advanced security protocols, corporate mercenaries, and potential capture. Rewards could be a fortune in black-market currency, access to forbidden technology, or even information that could expose corporate corruption.
- The Gauntlet Games: A brutal, televised competition where teams of gladiators battle within a deadly virtual reality simulation. Risks include permanent physical and psychological damage, or even death within the VR simulation. Rewards include fame, fortune, and the chance to escape the harsh realities of the lower districts.
- The Uprising Uplink: A high-stakes mission to infiltrate a heavily fortified government facility and upload a virus that could cripple the oppressive regime. Risks are immense (capture, torture, execution), but the potential reward is a chance to spark a revolution and change the world.
Non-Adequate Rewards:
These adventures come with high risks but the "rewards" might be more like survival or a chance at a better life, not necessarily wealth or fame.
- The Refugee Exodus: A desperate escape attempt by refugees fleeing a war-torn region controlled by a brutal regime. Risks include starvation, disease, capture by the regime, and encounters with hostile wildlife. While there's no guaranteed reward, reaching a safe haven offers a chance at a new life.
- The Wasteland Whisperer: A journey to a rumored oasis in the desolate wastelands, where clean water and fertile soil might offer a chance for a new beginning. Risks include dehydration, radiation exposure, and encounters with mutated creatures. The reward is simply the possibility of a more sustainable existence.
- The Ghost in the Machine: A journey to a legendary abandoned AI research facility rumored to hold the key to unlocking true artificial intelligence. Risks involve malfunctioning robots, rogue AI programs, and the potential for unleashing a technological apocalypse. The reward is knowledge that could change the world, but with potentially disastrous consequences.
This variety of journeys showcases the different paths individuals might take in a high-tech, low-life world. Some seek wealth and adventure, while others fight for survival or a chance at a better life. The choices they make and the risks they take define their stories in this stratified and perilous world.

2024.05.20 00:59 Aginagala WWF Summerslam 1997 Review
Welcome back to my running series of WWF PPV Reviews from a āblindā perspective (I have no idea whatās going to happen; the results, the feuds or how good any of the matches will be). I have always heard stories of the attitude era and golden age but never watched it myself so I set myself to watching every single PPV event chronologically. I am also watching Wrestling Bios āreliving the warā series to keep me updated inbetween the events with the feuds, and to get excited about upcoming matches.
Before I review the matches, based on the past few episodes of raw and last PPVs Iāll let you know, going into the event, which match Iām most excited for and which feud Iām most excited to see.
The match Iām most excited to see has gotta be Bret hart vs Undertaker. Two absolute all timers in the ring for the championship at summerslam? I mean come on what else can I pick itās a sure fire banger.
The feud im most excited to see is actually Mankind vs HHH, I think theyāve got a really good dynamic and opening the show after last Ppv is genuinely exciting.
WWF Summerslam 1997 Match Ratings
HHH vs Mankind Steel Cage Match 2.75/5
Goldust vs Brian Pillman 1/5
The Godwinns vs Legion of Doom 1.25/5
Bulldog vs Shamrock 2.25/5
Los Boricuas vs Disciples of Apocalypse 0.5/5
Owen Hart vs Stone Cold Steve Austin 3.5/5
Bret Hart vs Undertaker 4.25/5
The steel cage match is actually the first Iāve seen since starting this journey so well over a year with no kind of cage match, definitely adds a level of anticipation and excitement.
In terms of the actual match tho it wasnāt anything too special and honestly their match at Canadian stampede was way more entertaining. There were however a couple of completely nuts spots, mankind being suplexed from the top of the cage, and mankind delivering a flying elbow from the top of the cage, he is just an insane man; how he did all these crazy bumps never ending his career super early or anything is just divine intervention. Itās good entertainment but it wasnāt the best match. It is however very telling of whatās to come in the WWF with upcoming PPVs, with hell in a cell and more insane high flying spots.
What I am loving is Mick Foleys character development, he comes to the ring as mankind, does his bang bang as a call back to cactus jack and at the end when heās hurt, dude loves music plays, his foot starts moving and he starts dancing (ish). Everyone absolutely loved it and so did I.
The Pillman match against Goldust was very boring, I didnāt expect too much as Iām not that big of a Goldust fan if Iām completely honest; I just think he isnāt that exciting to watch. Pillman ends up losing which meansā¦ he has to wear a dress on raw? š this whole gimmick match and feud is just an L for me. The crowd was surprisingly into it, but I donāt really know what to say about it, it was just a snooze fest.
Looking this match up I realised Pillman was injured during this event and he sadly passed away two months after this. Rest in peace he was a fantastic unhinged character and thatās a real shame. He just couldnāt perform as his body wouldnāt let him anymore.
Well thatās a rather sour note but letās move onto the most established entertaining tag team at this point in the WWF legion of doom. But itās a real shame that they had to get in with the godwinns as when the godwinns were in control which was over half the match they seriously slowed to to a snails pace, holding for way way too long. That spike piledriver at the end was cool by the legion of doom but to be honest most of the match was just another snoozefest. Just skip the last two matches.
Inbetween the next match thereās a SEVEN MINUTE section where they had this million dollar chance between a couple of live contestants and a couple of phone calls, no one ends up winning and itās just pointless. Man the start to this event has been a mixed bagā¦
Shamrock actually has a very valid reason to be mad at the bulldog, with him having the bulldog throw dog food on him, so letās hope this is a physical match to really get this PPV going.
And it was decently physical to be fair to them, Iām not sure Iām shamrock was out on his feet for a portion of it as he was no selling a few punches and had a busted lip so thereād been some sort of connection somewhere. Like I say though the angle they were going for was cooler than the actual match and it was satisfying seeing that after the match shamrock got himself DQd and just lost it, beating the bulldog after he threw dog food on him again, holding a chin lock on him so long he passes out, using finishers in referees, this was cool. The match was about restoring his honour in a way and he certainly did that. The crowd goes nuts and heās in the ring just screaming, bloody brilliant. The actual match was a little lacking though and this should set up for a good match coming up.
And oh boy was I wrong genuinely I donāt know why but this match was so awful. For pretty much 90% of the time the wrestlers just didnāt know what to do. There were no impressive spots, no playing to the crowd, no psychology just nada. Like the last event I watched the ppv can benefit from less matches that are better booked. I donāt know why this match exists, I donāt know what it achieved. One thing that was insane was the amount of body hair Perez hasā¦ like itās an insane amount, itās not normal š I couldnāt help but just look at it in complete awe like what the hell am I seeing? But when a manās body hair is more entertaining than the match thatās a problem. When the pinfall came the crowd literally, Iām not joking, had 0 reaction. Avoid like the plague.
The next match Iām honestly having really mixed feelings about. Owen hart and Austin on paper should be a good match, and that it isā¦ but this is when Austinās neck was broken and he was temporarily paralysed after a botched piledriver. So this meansā¦ Austin is probably gunna go more part time after this. I donāt know this but Iām just assuming but weāll see. IM NOT READY!!
Before I mention the injury again, the match was going extremely well and it was a tremendously entertaining bout. I find it crazy that they were making a big deal of Owen working the neck only for him to actually break it. The different styles of the wrestlers, Owen being technical and stone cold being a brawler really made for a pure class match. Iād imagine they were going to go a bit longer but had to come up with a new finish on the spot so credit to them for that. And ouch it was a horrible spot to see, knowing what was coming up I winced and cringed so hard when it happened. Owen does a good job of playing up to the crowd after the botch and covering over for the pinfall but seeing Austin just completely dead in the ring like that is heartbreaking after seeing his rise. They played it off so well in fact that the crowd doesnāt really seem to notice. Austin seems to insist on getting himself standing up and raising the belt, and he refuses help until he gets out of the arena, truly amazing dedication to the wwf and why he was and is a superstar. Itās a real shame it had to end like that because again they were performing really well and putting on a good show. Reading about it Austin was out for 3 months after this and apparently Owen hart was meant to drop to his knees not sit down which had a big part to do with the botch. GOD DAMN IT!! But we all know he returns an even bigger superstar, so Iāve got that to look forward to.
Okay enough about the injury, letās get onto the main event.
Shawn being the referee and knowing the fighting that was happening backstage for real between Bret and Shawn made this really exciting. I bet this is gunna be full of drama!
The match starts off at break-neck pace (pun intended) with Bret hart smashing undertaker across the back with a belt and thereās no DQ because the bell hasnāt been rung yet. They exchange blows together as it goes back and forth in and out of the ring and Iām loving every second. Paul bearer eventually makes his way to the ring only the be smacked multiple times right on the jaw and god thereās something so satisfying about Paul bearer getting clocked. Multiple times Shawn is actually acting as a good referee which adds to the drama as Bret is keeping a close eye on him. Some of the hart foundation also come to the outside of the ring and undertaker does his iconic lean on the ropes to almost backflip outside the ring which looks so good and beats the hell out of them. I thought this would be dramatic!
This match was actually an absolute banger I really enjoyed it. Hart plays his heel perfectly as usual during the whole bout and when heās eventually victorious the ring is filled with trash and people showering him with abuse. I thought even though this was a pretty long match at 30 minutes they were able to fill most of it with good action. The last 5 minutes were especially dramatic with a steel chair getting involved, Shawn is hurt on the outside and hart smacks undertaker clean across the head with it, Shawn notices the chair when he comes back into the ring and calls Bret out, Bret then spits on Shawn and he ducks as Shawn swings for him with the chair, he hits undertaker and thatās all she wrote. I think the match couldāve benefitted from being a bit shorter in all honesty; focus the action down to a shorter time but a longer match with Shawn as the special referee, undertaker vs Bret, WWF title, you canāt complain about it being too long. I wouldāve liked to have seen a bit more offense from undertaker as his striking ability and in ring moves are so exciting to watch. But great match and it felt like a big main event as it should do at summerslam.
Overall the PPV had a great ending, a good start, and a terrible mid card. I really hope they donāt go back to booking boring mid cards with wrestlers they know canāt put on a show, instead they can stick with less matches with more quality. I did enjoy watching this though. I think the PPV will always be known for the piledriver botch but I think the main event is worth a watch as well. I also think this event was worth noting that a lot of people feel this is the beginning of the attitude era, people saying survivor series as well or December 1997 but weāll see.
Overall rating 2.75/5

2024.05.20 00:57 Fuhrankie How to let extended fam know to look for EDS signs?
So I'm the first person in my family to be diagnosed with EDS (hEDS) so but it likely comes through somewhere on my mum's side (she has hypermobility, hernias, joint issues, comorbidities, etc) and I'm thinking it would probably be a good idea to inform my aunts and uncles that it's something they should probably keep an eye out for.
I'm not the best at putting my thoughts out there, and the best I've come up with so far is a possible Facebook post that they may or may not see.
I'm still being investigated for more complex issues associated with hEDS (I was officially diagnosed last week at the tender age of 37 after a lifetime of pain) so I wonder if I should wait for more detail on myself before reaching out.
Thanks everyone. :)

2024.05.20 00:55 vitrobiani Installing nix on my asus vivobook 15
Hello everybody I've been having some troubles installing nix on my new machine. I came from the world of thinkpads but thought it was time for a change (and maybe to splurge on myself for a bit) and bought a brand new asus vivobook 15 pro with rtx 4060, an ultra 9 185H 24 gigs of ram and 2 tb of storage really the whole shebang. Now on my thinkpad installing nix was as easy as left click install and so I thought how much more different could it be, apperntly quite different. The nix installer doesn't recognize my laptop keyboard (it recognizes external ones), it doesn't have network drivers and so I can't connect to the wifi and worst of all it says that my screen is too small for the installer thus I have no way of continuing forward (the resolution doesn't allow me to press the forward button, and I can assure you the screen is larger then the my thinkpads that's for sure and so is the resolution). I did install windows and made sure bios was up to date, windows did require also to download a plethora of drivers including ones for the nvme ssds so I assume I'll need ssd drivers in nix as well (fyi tried installing ubuntu as well just to check and ran into similar driver issues as windows). I tried using other installers like the plasma and minimal ones but they won't even load, they just get stuck in the middle. So I'm using the gnome one (which i actually like best). So if anyone as any idea how should I continue I'd really appreciate it. Disclaimer I'm not a beginner in the nix world but I'm definitely not an expert or even close lol so be gentle. Sorry for the very long post appreciate anyone willing to help!

2024.05.20 00:45 Raspberry-Zestyclose It gets better just keep working hard :)
Warning this is a very long read without a TLDR
I left this sub and joined the ryerson sub in 2021. Leaving behind my big drive of notes which is what I assume keeps driving these posts talking about grade inflation to my feed. My last few comments were very similar to everyoneās posts as of now - grade inflation, unfair admissions, feeling close to your goals and it being taken away. 3 years later hereās where I came from and what Iām doing now, why itās not your fault and to offer a bit of hope if it helps. :)
In grade 12 (end of 2021) I had an 89 average, I was rejected from the majority of life sci and health sci programs (if a school had both I applied to both of them) - mac, u of t, queens, western. I got into York psych, health, TMU bio, undeclared arts and psych (waitlist), Laurier health sci and ottawa health sci. (some of my programs might be off if itās wrong, the overarching field is what I mean). My goal was U of T life sci and to go to medical school. Laurier and Ottawa were off the table after my family and I came to the conclusion that we donāt have the money for me to move away, removing my last two life/sci options. I honestly wasnāt a big fan of York leaving TMU as my last option. I really wanted a life science or health science program because the curriculum after first year was not simply bio, chem, physics so I veered from biology at TMU.
So I ultimately ended up accepting undeclared arts as I was waitlisted for psychology. At the end of June, I got off the waitlist for psychology and accepted that. At the time, I was seriously unhappy with myself I was angry at the fact that people were getting opportunities that I wanted that didnāt deserve them due to inflation and lack of standardization of monitoring of tests during online schooling and just overall how poorly my high school experience ended. Iām talking full breakdowns about how I worked so hard and got nothing in return. I had teachers who genuinely believed that I was one of the best students that they had in years and told me that I would go far. I had a teacher go as far as writing a letter for no reason other than to just say how proud they were of me and how they knew that I would do great - which at the time I truly didnāt believe after not achieving any of the goals that I had set for myself at the beginning of grade 12.
My first year of psychology was online for my first semester where I did decently well I got a 3.0 my second semester, ended up being entirely in person because the online sections of classes were full. At the time I wanted to do medicine this dream quickly got away from me when second semester in person classes left me with a 2.67 gpa for the semester. I had a realization looking upon my peers who were still completely online at TMU or at other universities had much much better GPA than me and I wouldnāt be able to get into medicine with my GPA. So again I felt let down by systems that ultimately led to further inequality in education. I let go of the idea of medicine and had no idea what I wanted to do after my undergrad.
After my first year, I decided to join the course union at my school, which was one of the best decisions I ever made. I met amazing people who encouraged me to do better, peers who were higher years than me and gave me advice when needed and from there, my grades got better. after joining the course union I joined the liberal arts union and from there I worked on about five more different positions over the next two years. TMU is generally not seen as the best school and itās not necessarily ācompetitiveā but that can work in your favour because thereās so many positions available whereas at other schools where people may be more inclined to take these these positions making them more competitive. Joining these course unions gave me so many opportunities and so many things that are now on my CV that continue to provide more opportunities, for example I was offered a job at the school based on all my experience. My CV is now what I would consider amazing with all the work that Iāve gained that is applicable to the field that I want to work in and because of my experience on my CV I got a research assistant position where I have a great academic relationship with a prof. And I got my gpa up enough itās not near a 4.00 or anything crazy but itās good enough for me to get into grad school.
I always knew that I didnāt want to stay in psychology after I graduated so I completed my degree in three years rather than four. I also want to mention you do not need to complete your degree in three years. Thereās no need for it. Had I stayed for an extra year I wouldāve had so many more opportunities with extracurriculars. Itās just I did not love the psychology curriculum enough to want to stay in it for another year. I had taken summer school courses before coming to this conclusion, and I had so many credits that I didnāt want to switch programs so I fast tracked. All that being said, do not rush your degree unless for example, you donāt like it and have plans to do something unrelated afterwards - for me it was a masters in a different field that the only requirement was a bachelorās degree so I didnāt see the point in switching. Having gained all of the research experience and extracurricular experience in the field that I want to pursue is what made my degree nonetheless beneficial even though I wasnāt doing what I had originally planned.
As of now, I will be beginning my masters at U of T in the fall (not in psychology). I feel very accomplished and fulfilled with everything Iāve done and I feel like the person that all those teachers said that I was back in high school. While I didnāt go to U of T for life sciences, and become a doctor like I had thought I would I am going to U of T nonetheless for a field I didnāt even know existed. I found and great community and something I genuinely love by continually working hard after feeling like I was ripped off by grade inflation and online school. All of which is so minuscule to everything Iāve gone on to do.
Moral of my story is you might feel ripped off right now, that your hard work went unnoticed and you might feel like youāre never going to accomplish your goals. But the truth is, it's very minuscule to the potential that you have. And as long as you continue to use your work ethic and potential wherever you go, you will be successful. You don't need big fancy school. You can do just as well if not better at schools that are seen as less prestigious or competitive as long as you continue to put in the hard work that you did in high school. So please don't feel like you have lost something but feel that you have gained the potential to do more. If youāre truly uncertain about accepting a program, take the time off think about alternate fields and try applying again, it might be better than toughing it out in a program you donāt really care about. If youāre dead set on going to university this fall, donāt wanna take time off and want to apply again and didnāt get into the one you planned, join extracurriculars meet new people and keep putting in work and it will pay off.
And Iām not saying youāre wrong in anyway for complaining and feeling the way that you feel because I felt the same way. Youāre all valid asf. All Iām saying is donāt beat yourself up and donāt feel like youāre the problem because thereās so many opportunities for you so long as you seek them out and take them and you will end up in a much better position in the end.

2024.05.20 00:39 _malfet_ I'm trying to draw my model, please give feedback.
| Ok, so basically i think i'm not really good at drawing, and i want to do my model by myself and then stream with it. I have gathered my thoughs on what the concept is, and started drawing. The concept is that i am a little fox inside a half broken robot/droid character, controlling it from one eye, the other eye being some kind of energy generator. The little fox looks like this, everyone that saw it said that it looks cute. https://preview.redd.it/xd57s8ad5g1d1.png?width=665&format=png&auto=webp&s=efcf5a6efe27861950c36d6e3f9cfb5c36d434fb as for the rest of the model, it looks like this: https://preview.redd.it/ahn8ykws5g1d1.png?width=304&format=png&auto=webp&s=b355593d1687d05a595ee9fdf3d0f254da0d3d0a I'll have to redraw absolutely everything after the final design is settled to rig it, that's why everything is rough and kind of unfinished right now. I will change and add a lot of details in the final version, but i think the overall design is close to be finished. (there will be some kind of clothes or similar, but i have no idea what kind for now, if you have a suggestion, i'll be glad to hear it) What do you think of the idea in itself? The color palette? The design? Other things i haven't been thinking about? submitted by _malfet_ to vtubers [link] [comments] |
2024.05.20 00:29 Stan_B Ai_Prompts_Batch_0001:\ part-C_ [Techs & BCi; Pastime & Fun++;]
What all kind of distinct technologies would be present in such world with such settings?
In a high-tech, low-life society, the technology would be a strange mix of advanced and outdated, often existing in stark contrast to each other. Here's a breakdown of some distinct technologies you might encounter:

- Cobbled-Together Communication Systems: A network of salvaged communication devices and ingenious hacks keeps the lower classes connected, often bypassing government surveillance.
- Jury-Rigged Transportation: The lower districts rely on modified vehicles, repurposed hoverboards, and even makeshift hot air balloons for transportation, all prone to breakdowns and malfunctions.
- Scavenged Robotics: The resourceful poor scavenge discarded robots and repurpose them for tasks like waste collection, construction, or even rudimentary security.
Hidden Technologies:
- Government Propaganda Machines: Advanced subliminal messaging and emotional manipulation techniques are woven into everyday experiences, subtly influencing the thoughts and opinions of the populace.
- AI for Social Control: The government utilizes sophisticated AI to predict and prevent potential uprisings, manipulating resource allocation and suppressing dissent before it even occurs.
- Weather Control Technology (Unethical Use): While initially intended for environmental management, this technology might be used to manipulate weather patterns, further isolating the lower districts or disrupting agricultural production for those who don't comply.
- Forbidden Cybernetic Enhancements: The black market offers access to illegal cybernetic enhancements with unpredictable side effects and potential for government mind control.
- Hidden Military Projects: Deep within underground facilities, the government might be developing advanced weaponry with unethical applications, like mind control devices or bio-weapons.
Unforeseen Consequences:
- The Rise of Rogue AI: Neglecting ethical considerations while developing advanced AI could lead to the emergence of rogue entities with their own agendas, potentially posing a threat to both the elite and the underclass.
- Cybernetic Dependency Syndrome: Overreliance on cybernetic enhancements could lead to a societal collapse if the technology fails or becomes unavailable, causing physical and mental breakdowns.
- Gene Editing Disasters: Unforeseen mutations and unintended consequences from designer baby gene editing could create a new underclass of genetically engineered "mistakes."
- Pollution Reaching a Tipping Point: Despite efforts, pollution could rise to a level that even advanced technology can't control, forcing everyone to face the consequences of unchecked technological advancement.
- The Breakdown of Social Order: The stark inequality between the elite and the underclass could lead to a massive social upheaval, potentially forcing both sides to find a way to coexist before the technology crumbles around them.
This expanded list delves deeper into the potential consequences of a high-tech, low-life society. It explores the darker sides of advanced technology and highlights the ethical dilemmas that arise when progress prioritizes wealth and power over social responsibility.
Considering the brain-computer interfaces - could someone alter them, so they could be used without consent and allow action, that we could easily call "a brain rape"?
Absolutely, in a high-tech, low-life society with Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs), there's a high risk of BCIs being misused for "brain rape" ā the non-consensual access and manipulation of a person's thoughts and experiences. Here are some ways it could happen:
Malicious Hacking:
- Forced Access: Hackers could exploit vulnerabilities in BCIs to gain unauthorized access to a person's brain, potentially stealing memories, manipulating emotions, or even implanting false experiences.
- Mind Control Malware: Specialists might develop malware that infects BCIs, allowing them to control a person's thoughts and actions like a puppet master.
Unethical Government Programs:
- Truth Extraction: Authoritarian regimes might utilize BCIs to extract confessions or sensitive information from individuals, essentially forcing them to "speak" their thoughts.
- Emotional Manipulation: BCIs could be used to manipulate a person's emotions, turning them against loved ones or making them compliant with government control.
- Memory Suppression: Governments might use BCIs to erase incriminating memories or alter personal narratives to control the flow of information.
Black Market Modifications:
- Black Market Implants: The black market could offer illegal BCI modifications that bypass consent protocols, allowing one person to access another's thoughts without their knowledge.
- Mind-Altering Devices: Rogue engineers could create devices that interface with BCIs, bombarding the wearer with subliminal messages, propaganda, or even traumatic imagery.
System Flaws:
- Backdoor Access: Manufacturers or government agencies might embed backdoors into BCIs, allowing them to access user data and potentially manipulate the system for their own purposes.
- Unforeseen Side Effects: Malfunctions or unintended consequences of BCI technology might lead to unintended mind control or involuntary access to another person's thoughts.
Protecting Against Brain Rape:
- Advanced Encryption: Robust encryption protocols within BCIs could make it more difficult for unauthorized access.
- Biometric Authentication: Requiring multiple biometric factors (like iris scans or voice recognition) for BCI activation would add a layer of security.
- Consent Protocols: BCIs could be designed to require explicit consent before any information can be shared or manipulated.
- Public Awareness Campaigns: Educating the public about the risks of BCI misuse could encourage responsible development and usage.
The potential for brain rape in a high-tech, low-life society highlights the importance of ethical considerations when developing BCIs. Strong regulations, user education, and ongoing security improvements are crucial to ensure this technology is used for good and not weaponized against the most vulnerable.
What would individuals within such society do for fun? Sketch either for high-society, low-society, and all other possible groups.

- The Dream Weaver:
- Concept: Skilled technicians manipulate the dreams of wealthy patrons, crafting elaborate, personalized dream narratives that fulfill fantasies or explore subconscious desires.
- Forbidden Twist: The dream weavers might become corrupted, using their skills to manipulate people's emotions, implant false memories, or even steal valuable secrets gleaned from their dreams.
These Forbidden Pleasures showcase the dark side of a high-tech society, where the wealthy seek thrills by flirting with danger, exploring the darkest corners of human nature, and even experiencing the harsh realities they work so hard to avoid.
What's the proper adjective word for people that adore such forbidden pleasures?
Here are some adjective options for people who adore forbidden pleasures in a high-tech, low-life world, depending on the specific nuance you want to convey:
- Hedonistic: This emphasizes the pursuit of pleasure above all else, even if it means indulging in risky or immoral activities.
- Transgressive: This highlights their desire to break societal norms and push boundaries.
- Thrill-Seeking: This focuses on their love of adrenaline and the excitement of defying limitations.
- Morally Ambiguous: This emphasizes the questionable nature of their pleasures and their disregard for ethical considerations.
- Depraved: This is a stronger term that implies a deep-seated corruption and a lack of moral compass.
- Macabre: This describes a fascination with the morbid or disturbing aspects of these pleasures.
- Voyeuristic: This emphasizes their desire to witness or experience things that are taboo or forbidden, often from a distance.
- Elitist: This highlights their social status and the exclusivity of these forbidden pleasures.
- Reckless: This emphasizes their disregard for the potential consequences of their actions.
- Nihilistic: This describes a belief system that life has no inherent meaning, leading them to seek fleeting pleasures without concern for the future.
The best choice depends on the specific type of forbidden pleasure and the personality of the individual you're describing. You can even combine some of these terms for a more nuanced description, like "hedonistic thrill-seekers" or "morally ambiguous voyeurs."
How about decadent? Would that be also proper?
Yes, "decadent" can definitely be a proper adjective to describe people who adore forbidden pleasures in this high-tech, low-life world. Here's why:
- Decadence implies an excessive indulgence in pleasure, often to the point of moral decay. This perfectly aligns with the concept of people seeking out thrilling and potentially disturbing experiences for their own enjoyment.
- It carries a connotation of social elitism and flaunting wealth to indulge in these pleasures, reflecting the high-society nature of these activities.
- The word also suggests a decline in morals and values. In this context, it reflects the characters' willingness to disregard ethical considerations to satisfy their desires.
However, there are some nuances to consider:
- Decadence might not be as strong as some of the other options, like "depraved" or "morally ambiguous." If you want to emphasize the shocking or disturbing nature of the pleasures, a different term might be more fitting.
- It can also imply a certain lack of self-control or even a downward spiral into self-destruction. This might not be the case for everyone who enjoys these forbidden pleasures ā some might participate with a calculated thrill-seeking mentality.
Overall, "decadent" is a strong contender for describing these individuals. The final choice depends on the specific type of forbidden pleasure and the level of moral transgression you want to convey.
Ok. Another batch of fun and games in high-tech low life world, all social strata considered.

Hey ^ My name is Vlad, I'm 22 years old, and I currently live in Spain. I really enjoy video games, anime (I started watching it a few months ago as I was having a really hard time, and it's helping me a lot), listening to music, and working out at the gym (it's helping me a lot with my stress and my feelings) and animals (i have one dog and a cat and they are so cute š„¹) I also like more things, but I can't remember them all, so you can ask me if you want š.
About my looks, I can say that I have long black hair (Viking style, I think), I'm around 5'10"-5'12" tall, and I have an average body, but I'm changing that with the gym. I don't have any problem sending selfies or even voice notes, so feel free to ask about it.
About my personality, I can say that I'm a very sweet and caring person and will always give you lots of love and affection, but I need to feel that from your side too. I love to spend time together, so doing voice chats, sleep calls, or video calls its nice with me š (I will adapt to your preferences, but for me, doing those is just a form of love).
A bit about me: I'm currently doing a cybersecurity degree that I will finish in a few months, and then I will start working on whatever job I can find to start saving some money, hopefully with the idea of going to live with my soulmate and be happy together.
I'm also a person who had a really bad time this last months, so I really need to feel loved and cared for, and I love to be pampered in that sense. I will never say no to any kind of affection you show me.
Please only write me if you are serious and you are really willing to put effort on the relationship. Also if you could include a picture of yourself aswell It would be perfect. I want to see with Who im talking and we Also need to know if we like eachother on that way too. I will send pictures back for sure ^
If you read this far thanks ^ and i hope you want to give me a chance and see where things go.

2024.05.20 00:27 OMEN_IlI Just wondering if there's any other steps I can take to deleting a very old unused account.
TLDR - Need to recover & delete an old unused account:
The story -
I'm not usually on Facebook much (mostly for work purposes) but I recently noticed my mother has two accounts on FB, one that she uses (aka the one she remembers the password for) and another that is fairly old (about 8 or so years old).
I noticed that possibly hacked or fake accounts have basically been putting up some posts for adult sites on her page, she of course doesn't want this on her page.
As you could guess, she's forgotten not only the password but also the email account and number she used for this account.
** I've reported her old account a few times and tried to recover the password but it's been so long we can't really figure out what her password or number she may have used for it. **
Oh and not to mention when I tried to find a FB contact number for her I realised there's nothing like that out there to directly speak to a human lol
As she's a little embarrassed of discovering what's been posted on her account, is there any idea what the best solution or process is to approach something like this or is it just a case of report and let it be?
Sorry to bother you guys just figured I'd turn to reddit since it's not the first time a community on reddit has helped me out :)
