2024.05.04 02:12 RecentMatter3790 The iOS default keyboard is garbage, and typing on a smartphone is just overall a terrible experience.

The only reason I keep using the default keyboard is because of privacy.
If Microsoft was a completely privacy protecting company, and its Swiftkey keyboard was completely private, I would had switched ASAP.
If their cloud functionality was completely private, that would have made it a lot better than the default iOS keyboard, because I would love to use Microsoft’s Swiftkey keyboard, but it’s cloud functionality is not end-to-end encrypted.
Swiftkeys autocorrect is better than “duck” autocorrect of the iOS default keyboard.
Apple’s default iOS keyboard is the “Fisher Price” of keyboards on smartphones, it’s just so bad. The LLM update to it from iOS 17 didn’t do anything, it’s just garbage. (I mean, ok, I can type swear words somewhat, but stop autocorrecting my stuff to some weird word!). It’s absolutely mind blowing how Apple talks about the keyboard as it is something so innovative, so groundbreaking and so advanced.
Apple’s default iOS keyboard doesn’t have a numeric row, it doesn’t do predictive text when one is typing in the search bar or the url bar on third-party browsers. It’s dictation is garbage. Siri has the hearing comprehension of a baby. Why do these companies boast about “innovative, groundbreaking technologies” if their technologies are so dumb? I’m tired of tech companies acting as if they’re gods.
I look and feel like an idiot every time I’m typing on a smartphone. It looks so dumb. We are just a bunch of over glorified apes who think they are superior to animals and do something called “typing”, on a physical item called a “keyboard”, it’s so absurd.
Swipe typing doesn’t help much either, and my wrists and fingers hurt from how heavy the phone weights, and when I type on the iPhone, my thumbs look like some octopuses tentacles trying to grab prey as fast as possible.💀
Also, if you type in multiple languages, you’re doomed. It gets even worse.
There is not much alternative keyboards on the App Store, so that people could replace the iOS default keyboard. I would love a keyboard that is cloud based and that does not read or get anything that I had typed on it. What about typing passwords, email addresses, location addresses and using the clipboard while using a third-party keyboard? That’s the biggest reason why I keep using iOS’s default keyboard, even though it syncs my dictionary through the cloud, and idk if it syncs the sensitive data that I had typed to the cloud.
I wish third-party keyboards were completely private.

# Team Δ Comment Record
1 Braves +1 Writing this as I am sitting at Terrapin Brewing at The Battery pregaming for tonight's game. I am here with my mother who was at the game 50 years ago to the day where Hank Aaron became the Homerun King. She scored free tickets to the game because of proving she was there. Super excited to come to the TP and be a part of an awesome celebration. Oh...I forgot i need to blurb about the team: Braves have some scary problems at SP...fortunately for us, they are a powerhouse on offense...and the top of the order hasn't even gotten going yet. Cheers y'all...maybe I'll be on TV? 6-2
2 Dodgers -1 Now that the Dodgers have unlocked Shohei Ohtani's powers, the season can begin. The Dodgers look incredible and I would say they are can't miss baseball. Other than the last game against the Cubs the team has been unstoppable offensively. Yamamoto has had a couple great outings in a row and the young Dodgers pitchers are doing their best. This team is absurdly stacked and will only get better. I hope. Until disaster inevitably strikes. 8-4
3 Rangers +1 The Eclipse isn't the moon blocking the sun, it's Adolis Garcia's massive dongs blocking out the sun. 6-3
4 Yankees +1 The Yankees looked rock-solid against both the Astros and Diamondbacks, and the offense is trending in the right direction against the Blue Jays. A Cole-less rotation is holding up quite well, quelling the prevailing fears after the team got neither Snell nor Montgomery. Anthony Volpe, Juan Soto, and Oswaldo Cabrera are early-season standouts, and it appears Judge and Stanton are both heating up. The biggest question mark right now is the bullpen, thanks to the loss of Jonathan Loaisiga and the shakiness of Clay Holmes. Still, so far this Yankees squad is vastly better (and funner) than last year’s. 8-2
5 Orioles -2 I think 9 games in might be a bit early to be overly concerned, however when you have 5 every day players hitting .216 or lower it's a bit jarring. 24 runs in the first two games and then 23 over the next 7 games is not exactly a recipe for success. I know everyone is clamoring for call-ups, mostly because Norfolk is averaging about 20 runs a game. It'll be interesting to see how much longer players like Urias, Mateo and yes even Hays and Mullins have before there needs to be a huge shake-up. Like I said, 9 games is still a bit early but with the pitching being what it is this team needs to score runs in order to win. 5-4
6 D-Backs +1 The Diamondbacks had a bad week, losing two of three at home to the Yankees before getting swept in a three-game set in Atlanta. If Snakes fans can take solace in anything, it's that most of the games could have gone the other way if not for some bad breaks. The starting pitching has mostly looked solid and the offense is still producing even with Corbin Carroll slow out of the gate; the defense has been uncharacteristically bad, and the bullpen has been characteristically bad. 4-6
7 ☀️ Rays +1 5-5
8 Cubs +7 After dropping their opening series vs the Rangers, the Cubs went 5-1 this week against the Rockies and Dodgers. New pitching signing Shota Imanaga made his hyped debut, and starred, as he pitched 10 scoreless innings with 12 Ks and no walks over two starts. Not to be outdone, the offense scored an MLB best 50 runs despite some adverse hitting conditions. The Cubs will look to continue their hot start as they embark on a long road trip, playing 3 games against the Padres and Mariners this week. 6-3
9 Brewers +7 The young lineup has shown up, both at the plate and with their gloves. However, with Junis on the IL and the bullpen already showing signs of fatigue, there are questions around starting pitching depth until Gasser and Misiorowski are ready for the show. Of course, this early in the season, you have to be careful not to overreact, but I think it is safe to say that THE MILWAUKEE BREWERS ARE THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL, CHOURIO IS A HALL OF FAMER, YELICH HAS NEVER BEEN SO BACK, AND BRICE TURANG IS GOING TO SWIPE 100 BAGS. 6-2
10 Phillies -2 Another year, another slow start for the Phillies. The pitching looks good but the offense, aided by the worst player in baseball Nick Castellanos, is simply not scoring enough. Johan Rojas looks like the same offensive black hole (a shocking .205 OPS) that he looked like in the Playoffs and in Spring Training. Harper, Realmuto, and Marsh are bright spots so far, but the rest of the lineup needs to wake up if they want any shot at the division. A relatively easy stretch of the schedule continues, as they don't play another 2023 playoff team until May 7. This week it's 3 games in St. Louis before a 4 game set with the fearsome April Pirates. 4-5
11 Astros -5 Pitching? Woof (except for Blanco). Hitting? Woof (except for Yordan). Joe Espada has certainly got his work cut out for him. It'll be interesting to see how long Abreu will tie his little beard-thing to the first base bag. Overall thoughts? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6NC0rKLZuU 3-7
12 Guardians +5 The Guardians were off to a good start to the season. Then we found out our best pitcher needs Tommy John surgery. Ugh. Anyway, the beginning of the season is always weird for rankings because the sample size is so small. Hopefully the Guardians keep doing well. But they have the best record and the best run differential as of writing, so I'm making them #1. Just go with it. 7-2
13 Pirates +10 The Pirates didn't play their best ball this week, and yet the ended up taking series against the Beltway Ballcubs of Washington and Baltimore. Thank a surprisingly resilient rotation, which has held up well even beyond the much-hyped debut of Jared Jones. The Pirates won the series against a good O's club thanks to the performances of Marco Gonzales and the maligned Bailey Falter, along with some great at-bats that ground down Baltimore's pitching corps. 8-2
14 Red Sox +7 7-3 on the west coast road trip? Brayan Bello is our worst starter?? A team ERA of 1.49 over the first 10 games??? This staff was supposed to be a downgrade from our mediocre 2023 squad. Instead, they're making five aces a reality (only about a decade late) and are being held back by a slightly-above-average lineup. I should be mad about Trevor Story exploding six games into the season, but honestly I'm just relieved I can finally give up on any hope of him being a real baseball player anymore. See you in June Marcelo!! 7-3
15 Blue Jays -5 The offensive woes from last year have carried over into the first 10 games of this season, with a handful of no-shows with RISP leaving the Jays at a semi-respectable 4-6 start at TB, HOU, and NYY. This team needs to figure something out in the 5-7 spots of the lineup, with guys like Kirk and Varsho looking lost far too often. They also need to shore up the 5th spot in the rotation, as Francis has been lit up twice, Manoah couldn't throw a strike in his A-ball debut, and young promising arms in Tiedemann and Yariel not quite ready for the big leagues. Thankfully the delayed home opener is here, the top of the lineup has shown a lot of promise, and the rotation is mostly settled in. Do better. 4-6
16 Twins -4 Well that wasn't a very good week. Royce Lewis was injured in the first game he played and will be out for a month. We won the Royals series, but got blown out 11-0 in the finale, split with the Brewers, then got stomped on by Guardians pitching, bad umpiring, and a rainout. Also, last year's strikeouts still aren't going away. We have the 3rd highest K% in the league, but are 30th in HRs, so selling out for power hasn't paid off yet. 3-4
17 Padres -4 Expectations are kind of everything. I feel like last season, I would’ve been annoyed at the sub.500 start, but I’m really not bugging. The first four series have come with two splits, and two losses, but I’m just kind of in the acceptance stage right now. I got a lot more joy out of seeing Profar hit a grand slam in our win vs San Fran than I did any negative vibes that I got out of the Pads two losses over the weekend. Jackson Merill had 4 hits on Sunday! 5-7
18 Mariners -7 Three things are sure in this life: death, taxes, and the Mariners having a slow start to the season. For a team that claimed to want to reduce strikeouts with all their roster changes, the results thus far have been very much... not that. Thankfully, it's still early, and while the start is disappointing, it can definitely be overcome. Just no more walking the bases loaded and then walking in the winning run, please. Up next: 3 @ Canada, 3 vs. Tiny Bears 4-6
19 Reds -1 Fuck Cornbread. Okay, I’m gonna get into my rankings in second but I’m at my mother’s right now, I’m staying here for a couple days due to water damage at my house, and she made a big pot of ham and beans for dinner with cornbread. This is fine, but it’s morning now and I go to make a bagel and the butter container is just fucking full of cornbread bits because of how crumbly it is, so I had to spend like 5 minutes picking out all the cornbread bits from the butter. So my hands are covered in butter and it takes forever to clean them because I keep getting butter everywhere. Alright so anyway, the Reds took a series from the Phillies and lost one to the Mets, go figure. I’m trying to find the best way to describe being a Reds fan. Imagine if, I don’t know, you’re married and you’re trying to make love to your wife, and she’s just lying there asking if you’re inside her yet but you already finished 30 seconds ago and are half asleep on top of her too tired to move because that small, almost unnoticeable act of passion was the most soul draining thing you’ve done all week. Being a Reds fan is like…well it’s like wanting a Bagel in the morning and ending up with Cornbread bits in it that’s right we’re back on Cornbread. Anyway, I know some Reds fans don’t agree with me but I think it’s time to be seriously concerned about Elly. Sure he just had a 13 game hit streak end, but in every single metric he is just not great. His speed is a great asset but his defense so far is far from acceptable. He has yet to hit a home run this year and looks lost at the plate. Like seriously lost. Like your 4 year old brother turned on your Xbox and is playing The Show on the hardest difficulty lost. Things need to improve. On a final note I wanted to again thank the Minnesota Twins for giving us Spencer Steer. Thank you. P.S. the NL Central makes me want to die. 5-4
20 Giants -6 The first reinforcements of the year arrive today in Blake Snell and he couldn’t come at a better time – SF starting pitchers, outside of Webb and Hicks, have had mixed results. 4 – 6 to start the year, the Giants have tread water against the NL All Star Team LA Dodgers and the talented SD Padres. Other than getting walloped once by each team, the Giants have largely played close games despite their -12 Run Diff (21st in MLB). Conforto is the early bat hero, leading the team in OPS among other categories, and Jorge Soler is currently the most productive new-acquisition. Fans, however, are looking for more top-to-bottom offense as the Giants sit at 17th in RS / G. Meanwhile, 26th in RA / G and 25th in Bullpen ERA is the larger reason for the Giants below .500 start to the season. Alex Cobb can’t return soon enough. In the bullpen, the early heroes are Ryan Walker and Landen Roupp, but look for the Rogers Brothers and Doval to settle into their usual quality appearances. But there’s no shame in a 4-6 start when all you play is good teams and that now changes. Next up is 3 vs WSH and then 3 on the road @ … Tampa Bay. Well, a temporary reprieve is still a reprieve. In unrelated news, it looks like the A’s will play in Sacramento next year as John Fisher continues to be a huge-- 4-6
21 Tigers +1 Three series in and we still haven't seen how the boys shake out against the best teams in the Bigs. Even though the record sits at 6-3, we're still looking for Tork, Greene, Keith, Baez (lol), Meadows, and more to wake up. How soon till Maeda is replaced by Manning in the rotation? The back end of the pen of Jason Foley and Shelby Miller have been absolute nails though. This week: 2 at PIT, 4 vs. MIN. 6-3
22 Cardinals -2 The Cardinals answered back after losing their opening series in LA with a couple of series wins, one in San Diego and one against the visiting Marlins. This week they'll get their first look at Sonny Gray (slated to make his debut on Tuesday) and face last year's NLCS participants as the Phillies come to town before they head back out west to take on Arizona. 5-5
23 Royals +2 These Royals are fun to watch. The starters have been excellent and there is a buzz around the team. They really remind me of the 2013 squad right now. Maybe they're not at the point of contending yet, but you can see the pieces. Playing the Orioles are tough as they did is a statement as well. Could the Royals actually be...good? 6-4
24 Angels +2 Do not stare directly into the Angels pitching. Despite some gaudy outings from the rotation so far, Reid Detmers has impressed through his first two outings of the season. His 24 K's and 2.45 ERA over 18.1 IP back in Arizona during Spring Training look more and more like a preview of coming attractions than a mirage. He's sporting a 1.64 ERA and 15.5 K/9 over his 11 IP against the Orioles and Red Sox—neither of whom have otherwise been slouches with the bats. Insert all the obligatory disclaimers about sample size here, but the 24-year old former top 50 prospect is a guy worth watching. 5-4
25 Mets -6 After a rough start, the Mets might have a little something going after taking 2 out of 3 in Cincy over the weekend. Our upcoming 4 game series against the Braves will be an early test - do we actually have what it takes to compete with the big dogs this year or is it going to be a long summer? It kicks off tomorrow with a Julio Teheran revenge game. We'll finish the upcoming week by welcoming the Royals to Citi Field. Hopefully it goes better than that other famous time they visited Citi Field. 3-6
26 Nationals +1 Nationals are exactly where we expected them to be. Winning 1 of every 3 with some young stars playing for ticket sales. 3-6
27 Marlins -3 Well fish fans, good news and bad news. Good news is that we won our first game of 2024! Max meyer was on the mound shovin and the marlins had some geat offensive production, highlighted by Jazz and Nick Gordon hittin back to back dingers in the 1st. It seems our bullpen has finally started to settle down after multiple games where they dont blow an early lead. The bad news......well its bad. The fish are currently 1-9 and the FO and skip have seemingly decided to part ways after this season. The more time passes, the more bs we see from Sherman and co. It really does seem like we went from one stingy ass meddlesome owner to yet another one. All i can say is Sherman aint very well liked in Miami right now. 1-9
28 Athletics +2 3-7
29 White Sox -1 Make sure you're paying attention folks, because this team might be one of the worst teams to grace the MLB in history. The rumor is that Robert Jr. will be on the IL for "months" after spraining his hip flexor. He had the same injury in 2021 that kept him out months as well. He was the lone bright spot in a lineup devoid of, well, talent. They have 6 guys sporting a negative wRC+ in this young season, including the highest paid player in White Sox history, Benintendi, and the player they traded one of their top prospects for this offseason, Fletcher. (Once again, that's negative wRC+, not below 100) They have a team SLG worse than the OBP of 19 different teams. And an OBP that's worse than 6 teams AVG so far. Yes, it's early, but through 9 games they have scored 16 runs and there is no help anywhere on the horizon. 1-8
30 Rockies -1 The Rockies have the worst run differential in baseball at -34. The only reason they aren't tied for the worst record in baseball is a walk-off salami in the home opener delivered by Ryan McMahon. He has been one of the few bright spots in what is otherwise already shaping up to a bleak season. 2-8

2024.04.01 22:34 kasutori_Jack 2024 r/baseball Power Rankings -- Week 1 / Preseason Vote: Welcome Back to the Year-Long Feature of Judgement, Coordinated Bias, and Beautiful Baseball Numbers!

Welcome back to baseball Power Rankings, 2024, our 12th year!

12 years ago naaahhman created this project and for the last elevent I've shepherded a dedicated team of redditors, past and present, to bring you the longest running feature of this great subreddit.
If you're a first time reader, we employ 30 voters (redditors) taken from each fandom / team subreddit. No one person or vote has more influence than another.
Normally you will see this feature published every Monday between Noon and 2 PM Pacific -- so, we'll meet again next Monday, April 8th.
Every voter has their own style / system and, while there are normally voting rules for guidance and numbers for analysis, this Preseason Vote called for a personal interpretation of what may transpire this season and voters were free to ignore the games teams have played.
There is ONE open Team Representative Spot.
Today, aweinschenker is the GUEST VOTER for the Yankees.
However, we are looking for a permanent Yankee representative.
Please refer to this comment for details.
TRANSPARENCY: this link will show you who voted each team where and has added neat statistics!
If something is a little messed up, just chalk it up to general rustiness but feel free to pester me let me know.
Total Votes: 29 of 30. So close.
The delta change somewhat irrelevantly refers to the last Power Ranking of the 2023 season for funsies.

1 Dodgers +1 The Dodgers had a quiet off-season after losing an all-star DH to free agency. Coincidentally, the team also boosted the GDP of Japan by ¥156,642,592,500 and is one step closer to achieving a diplomatic victory. Once Buehler, May, Sheehan, Kershaw, Graterol, and Treinen return from injury, the team will finally have enough pitchers to run a small government. The biggest worry I have for this team is the infield defense or the players having so much pressure on them to perform. A lot of Dodger fans are delusional and expecting the team to win like 130 games or something crazy, and I want to temper my expectations a little bit so when disappointment strikes again, I'm not as let down as the last few years. My pre-season prediction: The Dodgers go 132-30 before getting swept in the World Series by the Mariners after acquiring Mike Trout at the trade deadline. ****
2 Braves -1 This is not a "presason" vote for me so I have the Braves at number 2 this week. We took the opening series in Philly and the bats looked like the should: elite. Troubling start by Fried and an injury to Sean Murphy really put a damper on the weekend, but ultimately we put down the second best team in our division in their own house. Kelenic is quickly removing doubt and the platoon with Duvall has already proven to be another amazing move by AA. ****
3 Orioles 0 So, we are using this first week as preseason rankings and trying not to let what happened over the weekend affect this. So, I will rank according to what I thought going into this year. Obviously, the Orioles have a lot of talent. They hardly lost anything from a team that won 101 games last year. However other teams get better, and the Orioles aren't going to "surprise" anyone this year. There are obvious questions, like why Jackson Holliday didn't make the opening day roster (same as Gunnar when he was called up, service time manipulation). Can Kimbrel actually be the guy for one year and replace a dominant closer? What do you do with guys like Norby, Mayo, Holliday and Kjerstad? Where is the pitching depth going to come from? How good is Corbin Burnes going to be? When will David Rubenstein start writing checks? All in all, I remember someone saying every team is basically guaranteed to win 50 games and lose 50 games, it's what you do with the other 62 that matters. I think the Orioles can win 90+ games again this year but they need to be way more prepared for a stretch run than they were last year. ****
4 Rangers +2 The Texas Rangers won a World Series. What a fun, but also factual, statement to say! The offense looks to be ready to go right from where they left off last year with power throughout the lineup. Wyatt Langford and Evan Carter will be competing for AL ROY this year. Pitching, like always, is going to be where games are won and lost. The starting rotation has some injuries to work through until deGram and Schrezer are back. The bullpen added some upgrades this offseason will still be a sticking point. Who gives a shit though, the Rangers are World Series Champions! ****
5 Yankees +12 After an excellent opening weekend in which the Bombers swept the Astros on the road, it's hard to not get a little excited about this team. The starting rotation held it's own without Gerrit Cole, the bullpen was shutdown, allowing 0 runs in 14.1 IP, and Juan Soto has done exactly what he was brought on to do. These 4 games were certainly not without some drama, as the Yankees had to mount a comeback in the 6th inning or later in the first 3 games, and closed out the 4th by the skin of their teeth, but a 4-game sweep is a 4-game sweep. ****
6 Astros +3 I'm not going to overreact to the first series of the season, but even without accounting for those games, the Astros should have more thoroughly addressed their middle relief options and starting pitching depth this offseason. It'll be fun (?) watching Joe Espada's first season as a manager, particularly as he's promised more aggression on the basepaths - which could, of course, result in more Altuve pickoffs than usual. It's hard not to wonder if the dynasty is coming to an end after this year, especially if/when Bregman leaves. ****
7 D-Backs +6 The Snakes had a good start to the season, taking three of four from the Rockies at Chase. Opening Day was one for the history books, as they scored 14 runs in the third inning to set several club records. The starting pitching and defense looks great as expected, and the offense is doing its job, but the bullpen remains a question mark, especially with closer Paul Seawald sidelined for the foreseeable future. The D-backs now host the red-hot Yankees for a real test. ****
8 Rays -4 "The Rays unceremoniously exited the playoffs last year, and enter this year in much the same way. The usual offseason story beats happened - trade away one of your best players, sign some guys nobody wanted, make some trades for guys only the biggest fantasy baseball degenerates care about, carefully review your b-roll to avoid using any footage featuring unsavory characters, et cetera. The Orioles remain the darlings of the division this year, the Yankees only traded for 1 surefire MVP candidate, the Blue Jays didn't but still made some big signings, and the Red Sox had a couple pints of Sam Adams while thinking about Mookie. Where does that leave the Rays? Exactly where they want to be, sneaking up to somehow beat your expectations once again. Spring is the time for new beginnings, and perhaps no team is as experienced and equipped to succeed after retooling yet again. The starting rotation looks uninspiring at first glance, but then you remember there's an entire rotation on IL, most of which will return at some point this season (RIP Shane pls recover quick). Everyone knows the bullpen will sort itself out, the Rays could probably get a few quality innings out of you or me. As far as the lineup goes, Amed Rosario and Richie Palacios will slide in for Manuel Margot to fill out the OF. The shortstop situation is surprisingly not terrible with Jose Caballero holding it down to start the season and Junior Caminero in AAA as the next hopeful star in the pipeline. Cornerstones Yandy and Randy will lead the way, and if Isaac Paredes can repeat his 2023 and Brandon Lowe returns to form there's some sneaky pop in the lineup. The lack of playoff performance since 2020 definitly weighs a bit heavy on Rays fans, and after the incident last year I think most are hoping for a likeable team that can challenge for the division. The back-and-forth series against the Blue Jays to open the season feels like it set the tone for the AL East this year - you either show up to each and every game or get left in the dust. Let's keep the 20's roaring and those flappers flapping, the water is as warm as ever." ****
9 Phillies -1 The Phillies looked unstoppable after Game 2 of the NLCS, especially at home, but a shaky bullpen in Arizona and a cold offense back in Philly abruptly ended their season. They stuck to their guns in the offseason, maintaining the exact same lineup and bullpen while signing their long time ace Aaron Nola to a 7/172 contract. It's a risky deal, as Nola has been a beacon of inconsistency over the past few years, but he's key to the playoff formula that's gotten the Phillies past the Braves each of the past two years. Most analysts project more of the same for the Phillies in 2024 as they likely don't have the firepower to keep up with the Braves. Their best chance will be not starting the season slow (they started the past two seasons 21-29 and 25-32) and Trea Turner playing more like his second half self. Ultimately though, the goal will be to get into the Postseason by any means necessary and hope that Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola, and Ranger Suarez can keep doing their thing. ****
10 Blue Jays -3 What are the 2024 Toronto Blue Jays? A team that will see key players (Vladdy, Kirk, Varsho, Manoah) bounce back to expectations to finally make a run at the AL East title? Or another edition of a maddeningly inconsistent offense that fails to capitalize on solid pitching and scraps to stay in the Wild Card race? ONLY ZOLTAN KNOWS. This is supposed to be a preseason preview, but the split series at Tampa Bay showed both sides of the coin with two dominant wins (8-2, 9-2) filled with timely hitting with RISP and shut-down pitching, but also two losses (2-8, 1-5) where those same hitters kept finding fielders' gloves and early injuries in the bullpen tested the depth pieces. Regardless, the Jays should still field one of the best, deepest pitching staffs in baseball and are hoping a handful of new additions/callups (Turner, Clement, Schneider, IKF) will supplement a much improved offense. This feels like a big make or break year with some key pieces of the core on the verge of either proving they're worthy of big extensions or leaving as part of a rebuild. The AL is stacked (the East in particular), so they'll be tested early and often. With a first month that has TB, HOU, NYY, SEA, SD, and LAD on the schedule, we'll find out quickly whether this team is up to the test. ****
11 Mariners -1 Hello /baseball my old friend, I've come to rank with you again. This year should be an exciting one in the AL West - the Mariners, Astros, and Rangers are all very close in my book, and I wouldn't be shocked by any final order of those three at the end of the season. The M's roster has had a lot of turnover this year due to Jerry Dipoto doing Jerry Dipoto things, and time will tell how fruitful those changes are. But most importantly, baseball is back! ****
12 Twins -1 Heading into the season, Twins fans have lots of reasons to be optimistic. Lopez and Ryan are ready to headline another stellar rotation, this year including Chris Paddack as he returns from TJ, and Bailey Ober who looks ready to take the next step. The lineup is healthier than it has been in a long time, with Buxton's knee finally healed after a year of DH-ing and able to retake his CF postion, while Correa's plantar fasciitis has resolved and should give us another big bat. Unfortunately the electric Royce Lewis has already been injured, and hopes for him to headline a full season have been delayed for a month. The rest of the lineup is solid, with sophomores like hometown power hitter Matt Wallner and on-base machine Edouard Julien ready to follow up on a great 2023. The bullpen is a definite strength, and is constantly projected as one of the best in the majors. The AL Central has gotten slightly more competitive this year, but with no real weak points on our roster, projections have the Twins taking the division with one of the best records in baseball. It should be another fun summer of baseball in Minnesota! ****
13 Padres +2 Rest in peace to Peter Seidler, who was the best owner in San Diego sports history. This year, the Padres don’t have a real tv deal, and wanted to avoid the luxury tax (and the repeater’s tax), so they had to cut some payroll, and avoid spending. Snell, our Cy Young winner from last year, is now on a division rival, and so is Bob Melvin. The best baseball player in the world now has the biggest contract in the baseball world, on our biggest rival. Oh, and Arizona was the one to actually make the World Series from the NL last year. While I don’t personally think A.J.Preller should still be the team’s GM, I will admit that the Soto trade for pitching depth was greatly needed, and we used a player in that deal to help us get Dylan Cease as well. Despite much of the above, I still find it hard to not be excited to watch a team that does have Ha Seung Kim, Manny, and Tatis on it though. It was a fun and unique start to enjoy passing out with the Padres playing at 4a.m. I do think that the Pads aren’t deep enough for a playoff run, and have the team finishing 77-85, but I hope I’m wrong. ****
14 Giants +4 [San Francisco, CA, April 1st ] The Giants had one of the most exciting off-seasons in recent memory, constructing the best roster since Pandemic usually just meant a fun computer game. Fans eagerly await the debut of new-Giant Cy Young Winner Blake Snell (SOON / delayed by late signing), while also keeping an eye on not-quite-as-new Giant CYA Winner Robbie Ray (not soon / ASBish). Alex Cobb coming back from an injury this writer keeps forgetting about would reportedly also be cool. Meanwhile, Jung Hoo Lee (KBO Kiwoom Heroes) and Matt Chapman (AL Oakland Hero) hope to make immediate and always intense impact. With Lee locking down the lead off spot, the Giants complemented Chapman’s middle-of-the-order presence with Jorge Soler who projects to be the latest Giant to fall shy of 30 homeruns. Meanwhile in the B Plot, manager Gabe Kapler has been replaced with Bob Melvin who brings veteran leadership, an intangible only worth touting if your team makes the playoffs, and San Francisco said ‘goodbye’ to local legend Brandon Crawford which tragically reduced the number of Brandons on the team to zero. Did the Giants do enough to make the playoffs? In the Manfred era that answer is definitely ‘maybe’. In unrelated news, John Fisher can go-- ****
15 Cubs -3 ****
16 Brewers -11 The Brewers have seen sustained success for the first time in franchise history while signing almost exclusively one year contracts and trading away players in their arb years. This off season took this to the extreme, trading away Burnes and Houser while signing only a single large contract to Hoskins. Milwaukee has MLB-ready players headlining a top rated farm system that make them a likely competitor in future years, but whether or not this team is still playing meaningful baseball this September will likely come down to if the youngsters prove to be impact players right away. ****
17 Guardians +3 Baseball and lists are two of my favorite things, so I'm glad this is back. I'm not sure what this season holds for the Guardians. We have a manager with no managerial experience and made no big offseason signings. I'd consider 500 a successful season, though I would like to shock the baseball world. Predicting Dodgers, Reds, Phillies, Rangers, Twins, and Orioles as division winners. ****
18 Reds -2 Hey. Long time no see. It’s been a minute hasn’t it? How are you? How are things going? I want things to be different this year. I want change. I don’t want to do the same things over and over. I want to talk about baseball, I don’t want to talk about sad or unpleasant things again. It’s a new year, it’s a new me. The Reds are poised to make some gains, they added some depth, some of their best players are looking to keep going, we have a bunch of young talent and plenty of depth on the team ready to go aaaaaand it’s gone…….No, no. No, no no no no. Things were supposed to be different, they were supposed to change. Things were supposed to be different, they were supposed to be differentdkfmcbasedndjvbnaaafaaf avfojfnf;ojngerojerjofoejefonvenobef[nbb f[onbfeno ****
19 Mets +4 Expectations are tempered for the Mets after a miserable 2023 campaign. Most projections have us hovering around .500, so it's easy to envision a variety of outcomes for the 2024 Mets - do we start hot and add pieces at the deadline? Do we start cold and sell guys like JD Martinez, our starters, maybe even Pete Alonso? Early storylines for the club will include how the patchwork rotation performs in the absence of Kodai Senga, the return of Edwin Diaz, Brett Baty's attempt to show he's the long-term answer at 3B, and how quickly JD Martinez can get to Flushing. My prediction - 84-78, narrowly miss the playoffs, but reason for optimism going into 2025. ****
20 Cardinals +6 Super excited to be taking over as Covane retires. Big shoes to fill for me to fill. Cardinals have the injury bug early and nearly split the series with the Dodgers if it wasn't for some late game heroics (if that's what we want to call it). We'll see what the year holds as they get healthier, but for now the issues from last year seem to have survived the winter. Maybe Victor Scott II will save us all. ****
21 Red Sox -2 Ladies and gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to your ~2022~ ~2023~ 2024 BOSTON RED SOX!!!! It's happening again. I'm starting to go a bit crazy as a power ranker for this team. It's the same narrative! Bats good, prospects interesting, SP depth horrible. 78-84. We'll be so good next year if we just sign The Right Guy™. I bet we'll do a half buy/half sell during the trade deadline after surging to 56-52. Now, repeat after me: TANNER HOUCK IS A MLB STARTING PITCHER. ****
22 Tigers +1 Fun little opening weekend of three one run wins over the hapless White Sox, but let's take a look at the bigger picture. Even with the loss of Eduardo Rodriguez, expect the pitching staff to be stronger and deeper than last year with a full season of Tarik Skubal, the return of an improved Casey Mize, and the additions of Jack Flaherty and Kenta Maeda (if Maeda can control the longball issue). The pen is lowkey nasty, especially Jason Foley's sinker. On the offensive side, Riley Greene is my pick to jump to All Star status, while Colt Keith, Kerry Carpenter, and Spencer Torkelson help lengthen the lineup. I'm looking for a top two ALC finish once again. This week: 3 at NYM, 3 vs. OAK. ****
23 Pirates -2 For the first time in a very long time, the Pirates have not been eliminated from the playoff race on Opening Day -— although they are widely expected to finish last in a very winnable NL Central division with a mid-70s win total. The lineup should be solid, with Bryan Reynolds and Ke'Bryan Hayes backed up by some exciting young hitters in Oneil Cruz and Henry Davis. The reason for the pessimistic projections lies at the feet of the rotation; it just isn't very good, although help is on the way — most notably in the form of Paul Skenes. The Bucs also got a very good performance from Jared Jones in his debut on Saturday, and the Bucs took their first step toward beating the projections by sweeping a 4-game set to open 2024. ****
24 Marlins -10 Well....bruce sherman pinched pennies this offseason and we did the bare minimum for adding arms and couldnt sign/trade for an impact bat. Biggest things im looking forward to this season is to see max meyer develop this season. Our offense might get on base a bit better this season but were likely still going to have issues getting runs across the plate. Due to injuries to starters were gonna have a rough start to the season. I'll be watching hopeful as always but unless we trade for a big bat this season were not likely going to finish with more than about 80-85 wins. Sherman is quickly running out of time to show marlins fans he aint loria 2.0. Either way, go fish! ****
25 Royals +3 The Royals have drastically improved their pitching staff. They aer very clearly looking to contend this year. With a possible Cy Young candidate in Cole Ragans and a potential MVP candidate in Bobby Witt Jr., they may be better than expected. Have they done enough to contend? Well, the AL Central is weak... ****
26 Angels -2 I was fairly tempted to copy/paste some previous week one power ranking blurbs for the Angels because I don't feel like all that much has changed. If you had gone into a coma eight years ago and woken up today, would you have really missed all that much with this team? Seasons change but the results have stayed the same to a remarkable degree. You'd think even just one of these years they would have found a way to luck into the playoffs if nothing else. Nevertheless, this season's arrangement of the Titanic's deck chairs features a visibly aging Mike Trout leading the way and a . . . surprisingly adequate cast of hitters? How healthy they remain with a highly suspect Angels medical team at the helm is a question with a consistently bleak answer, but on paper anyway, Trout and Ward are the anchors of this lineup. Buttressing them are also three young bats worth watching in Zach Neto, Nolan Schanuel, and Logan O'Hoppe—and whatever the hell Anthony Rendon and Aaron Hicks are at this point. Lest I be halfway mistaken for holding any optimism for this season, I am obligated to point out the abject disaster that is the pitching. There is not a single starter who profiles for a sub-4.00 ERA and the bullpen does not elicit much confidence either. Captain of the USS Dipship would be the Guy Who Had the Funny Line in Moneyball. Retread managers are not the best bets to make and Ron Washington batting Anthony Rendon 1st and Aaron Hicks 2nd probably gives the more discerning readers ample context for what to expect. If you’ve made it to this point and still somehow have hope this voyage will avoid and icy grave, just remember Arte Moreno looms, commanding full steam ahead! ****
27 Nationals -2 To begin every season since the 2019 World Series, I have given the Nationals a pass. A 5-year window where I can't complain about wins/losses. This is the last year so there needs to be some big-time development. I expect the end of 2024's roster to look very different than the beginning and the Nats need to be competitive. ****
28 White Sox -1 In the opener, the White Sox didn't get a runner past 1st base, they're now 0-3, and Eloy Jimenez lasted 3 games into the season before suffering his first injury. Basically everything is going as expected. I have no expectations for this team and my pulse of the fanbase is that we're all a bit numb. As far as I can remember, the last 8 years were the first full rebuild the Sox have gone through. In the past, they typically retooled each year and hoped for the best. It meant that fans did not have to sit through full tank seasons, but it also didn't garner any sustained success. What this rebuild amounted to was much worse. It led to 2 playoff appearances where the White Sox were bounced in the first round and then suffered a historically bad year last year where they lost 100+ games in what was supposed to be their window. Now, the Sox are presumably rebuilding again, but any optimism about the process is gone. ****
29 Rockies 0 It's going to be a long year. The Rockies lost a franchise record 103 game last year, and this year might be worse. There's some optimism to be had for '25 and beyond, but $3 beers on the Rooftop are about the only thing to look forward to in '24. ****
30 Athletics 0 I'm going to try my best and ignore the elephant in the room this season- no, I don't know where the A's will be playing next year. I don't think they know either. I hope the Oakland mayor gets recalled or the team just gets "stuck" in a temp home of Sacramento. On the field, they're very bad, but it no longer looks like the worst roster in the majors. Miller and Jimenez head up the back end of a bullpen with question marks in between. Noda, Ruiz, Gelof, Rooker, Langeliers, and even Nick Allen look like major league regulars, albiet not great ones. Watch for Bleday and JD Davis to anchor a true 95 wRC+ lineup as the team fights for 4th place in the division. Outside Blackburn I don't think any starter "looks good" but we'll see. ****

2024.03.08 03:23 Vietname DNS appending backend url onto frontend url

this is fully a "Fisher Price: my first DNS" question, so forgive me:
I'm trying to set up a react frontend/django backend app on heroku and host the domain on squarespace. I set up two CNAMES on squarespace and pointed the heroku dns targets at them, and my react app ingests the backend url through an env var and creates an axios instance with it:
Squarespace DNS config:

When I make the login call in-app, it tries to hit

`backend..net/game/login/`.
Am I configuring my DNS wrong? because i'm unsure how my axios/heroku config would result in appending the backend url onto the frontend url like this.

2024.02.24 20:13 throwforobvious12 Why FSU over UF (let me explain)

Good day, currently a Senior at FSU! I’m on a throw away account, for the sole reason that I lost the password for my main and I am to lazy to reset it right now.
Anywho as you see the title, I’m here to tell all of you wide eyed freshman who have been given that cool choice; accepted into, likely more than one school in this state, why you should enroll here.
I’ll start off with the easy ones, social life, sports, dating life. It’s absolutely no mystery that our school is known to be very tightly knit, work hard/play hard school. People here are super friendly if you just do one thing, and that’s actually talk to them, which I know can seem scary to some of you introverts but I was just like you guys and if you put yourself out there even a little bit, plenty of people who are like minded will hang out with you/ invite you to things, etc. People here also enjoy partying so if that’s your thing, say no more, just enroll. Next up sports, I mean need I say anything here, 13-0, ACC champs. Natty for women’s soccer, our basketball team is goo…. Mediocre (some things never change). And let me tell you the atmosphere on game days is nuts, 80,000 people in the Doak doing the war chant is definitely something to experience. Now our last topic for this chapter dating life. I came into college thinking I was a hopeless romantic (I know many such cases) turns out if you litterally just talk to people it’s not even that hard. Like legit words change the difficulty setting from impossible to easy mode. Just talk to people in your class, clubs, etc. I did that and what do you know first semester got a girlfriend and we’ve been dating now for 4 years as we both prepare to exit FSU.
Okay next up, academics. I know many of you here think “Oh but UF is the flagship there for they must be better academically”, your wrong. Top 5 my ass. Some of the smartest people I know went to UF and it turned them into mindless drones, depressed, over worked, etc. Here’s the biggest kicker, when I talk to them about there course work, there is no difference between what we cover and what they cover, yet somehow they sometimes seem to not understand the concepts as well as many of the students here at FSU. It’s for one sole reason why this occurs. Class sizes. At FSU the biggest class (realistically) you’ll get is like your freshman gen Chen class in fisher maybe like 200 students tops. Every class after that gets progressively smaller. To the point, that for me atleast in calc 3 our class was about 20 kids. At UF according to my colleagues over there the calc 3 classes can get up to 300 kids and that caused the proffesor to give minimal shits. Here on the other hand, in a 20 kid class room that prof is doing everything to get you guys to pass with high grades and learn a shit ton in the process. Furthermore, I see a significant amount more proffessors at this school who actually care about teaching you something interesting. For instance, I came into this school hating physics. I despised it in high school, took physics A here with a really hard but really good proffessor, Dr. Hori and now I’m going to UC Berkeley in the fall as a PhD student in physics. Funny how that works out. My entire point here is if you really care about your academics a lot of professors here are good and will teach you a lot of stuff. Also also, if your struggling in any class we have a free tutoring center (ACE Strozier) with ABSOLUTELY TOP NOTCH TUTORS, the dudes in physics saved my ass many times. Same with the people in math and Chem. ALSO ALSO, if your pre med, whilst a lot of the Chen department here is cruel, you have the resources to get the A in those classes, unlike UF (I’m sure you’ve heard the pre med Chem horror stories) while not all the chem profs are good, they do give atleast enough of a crap to get you where you need to go and if you put in the effort you’ll get the A, for this I highly recommend tutoring.
Next up, research, for me this is the most important, since I’ve been doing it for 2 and half years now. LET ME TELL YOU ITS AMAZING THE RESEARCH HERE. I’m a Mechanical Engineering major, did the BSMS program, took the physics pre reqs etc, and yet I found that the research here is top notch, and there are so many opportunities for undergrads to get into it. I’ve worked with a a few PIs here, have my name on not one but two papers in fairly respected journals . Worked with the AFRL(Air force resarch lab), obtained a secret security clearance, worked with DARPA, and more. Let me just say any other school wouldn’t have provided these opportunities. The size of UF or UCF, etc just doesn’t allow many undergrads to work on cutting edge cool tech. FSU on the other hand provides so many opportunities.
Now for clubs and involvement. So much stuff to do, so many cool clubs. They are all so friendly and have super cool events, personally I’m a fan of the film club and esports club, and there is a new aviation club which is I think starting up which is pretty cool.
Jobs/Careers, now while I think the universities job isn’t to prepare someone for a career and rather educate you to be a world changer. You will get a job at FSU, especially if your in STEM and get involved. Every careeer fair I’ve been to I’ve walked out with multiple interviews, and so far two summer internships in the past. Employers like us.
Now, travel, we are no Orlando, but we are easier to get home from than Gainesville that’s for sure, multiple American Airlines flights out of TLH, expanding delta service, JetBlue and silver. So you know it’s atleast cheaper here if yo need to fly back than it is from GNV.
Thanks for tuning in. Hope this helped.

My Science Project (1985), a project in how to make a great concept fall flat on its face.
A fun and enjoyable sci-fi movie with Fisher Stevens(Short Circuit and Hackers), Dennis Hopper (original Super Mario Bros) and Barry Corbin (War Games). As a kid, this movie did scare me as it is intense at the end, but now it's just a fun romp with pretty amazing graphics for the time. If you've never watched, you'll definitely enjoy if you like sci-fi, time travel, or just something different and can ignore bad reviews. I've got it on DVD, but it doesn't appear to be legally available to stream anywhere.

2024.02.20 19:01 IndigoWolf4711 Lindsay Arnold Dancing with the Stars: Professional Dancer Bios ✨

Lindsay Arnold
\"I love to entertain and I love to have fun and I think that that's what I'm going to bring to the show. I'm not just a girly dancer, I get touch and rough sometimes.\" - Lindsay Arnold
Achievements:
'Dancing with the Stars' run:
Lindsay Arnold joined 'Dancing with the Stars' in Season 16, as a new professional partner, replacing pro Chelsie Hightower. During the season, she partnered with professional boxer Victor Ortiz. They were the fourth couple to be eliminated, placing 8th overall.
Following this season, Lindsay was moved to the troupe. She remained in that position until Season 21, in which she was promoted to a professional partner again.
In Season 21, Lindsay partnered with 'Legion of Honour' recipient and soldier Alek Skarlatos. They made it all the way to the finals, placing 3rd overall.
In Season 22, Lindsay partnered with 'Boyz II Men' singer Wanyá Morris. They, and NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown and pro Sharna Burgess, were the eighth couples to be eliminated, tying for 4th place overall.
In Season 23, Lindsay partnered with NFL wide receiver Calvin Johnson Jr. They made it all the way to the finals, placing 3rd overall.
In Season 24, Lindsay partnered with MLB catcher David Ross. They made it all the way to the finals, placing 2nd, losing out to NFL running back Rashad Jennings and pro Emma Slater.
In Season 25, Lindsay partnered with actor and singer Jordan Fisher. They made it all the way to the finals, ending up winning the season. This marked Arnold's first win as professional.
In Season 26, the Athletes season, Lindsay partnered with NBA center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the show's tallest contestant. They, along with women's basketball player Arike Ogunbowale and pro Gleb Savchenko, were the third couples to be eliminated, tying for 7th overall.
In Season 27, Lindsay partnered with NFL linebacker DeMarcus Ware. They, along with country music singer and actor John Schneider and pro Emma Slater, were the sixth couples to be eliminated, tying for 7th overall.
In 2018, Lindsay took part in the first, and only rendition, of the spin-off 'Dancing with the Stars: Juniors', in which she mentored 'Black-ish' actor Miles Brown and junior pro (and Arnold's sister and eventually a future pro on the show) Rylee Arnold. Their team made the finals, finishing as runners-up, losing out to professional skateboarder Sky Brown and junior pro J.T. Church, who were mentored by pro Alan Bersten.
In Season 28, Lindsay partnered with former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. Arnold was absent for weeks 8 and 9 due to the passing of her mother-in-law. Spicer danced with pro Jenna Johnson for these weeks and was eliminated during Week 9 with Johnson, becoming the sixth contestant to be eliminated that season, placing 6th overall.
Arnold did not return for Season 29 of the show as she was pregnant, expecting her first child. She gave birth on November 2, 2020 to her daughter Sage Jill Cusick. She would eventually return to the show the following season.
In Season 30, Lindsay partnered with 'The Bachelor' star Matt James. They were the fourth couple to be eliminated, placing 12th overall.
Arnold opted not to return for Season 31 in order to spend more time with her daughter, and as she was hoping to welcome a second child. On October 24, 2022, she announced she was expecting her second child, a girl. Her second daughter, June Cusick, was born on May 3, 2023. Arnold did not return for Season 32 either due to the difficulty of relocating between Utah and Los Angeles with her daughters. She has not returned to compete since Season 30.

2024.02.05 16:17 Russelldiscgolf I think it’s kinda ridiculous players not taking cash to keep amateur status.

I think it’s kinda ridiculous players not taking cash to keep amateur status.
If you good enough to play and cash in open you shouldn’t have to opt out of cash to accept discs or bags you probably don’t need just to maintain your am status.
It would be better if we had rules where players can accept cash and keep am status to compete at Am Worlds.
If players are worried about saving an status to make a run a ROTY, we should have better rules in regards to ROTY
If players are worried about players sandbagging then we need better rules.
What do you think? How would you change the current rules.?

2024.01.12 20:54 FromAcrosstheStars 29 [M4F/NB] Scotland/UK - I would burn the world to see you smile.

Hello all,
I've been alone for quite a while now, most of my 20's and it's been a difficult journey finding someone similar to me to build a life with. It would be nice to go through the next decade with a life partner, to learn and grow up together, before growing old together and living the rest of our lives side by side. I'm not looking for a fling, or anything casual. I'm looking for a long-term, lifelong relationship, ideally something that would end in tying the knot. But I am also looking for a lot more than that, and this is where it's really important for me to find someone who wants the same.
I am looking for a soulmate. Now I know, Reddit is probably the least likely place for that in the world, BUT it doesn't hurt to at least try, right? To me, soulmate doesn't just mean someone who we are perfectly compatible with as that doesn't exist. To me it means a connection that transcends the physical. That the moment we meet we know that we are destined to be together, in this life and in the next, in whatever universe, we will always find our way back to each other because we are inextricably tied to each other. We are not two separate people, we are two halves of a whole who should never be apart. We have merged together to the point where I don't know where I end and you begin. We can stare into each other's eyes for hours, memorising every colour within and tremble from the strength of the emotion we feel for one another.
While we may have others in our lives we care about, nobody else can ever come close to the strength of the bond we have towards each other, that is something only we have ever shared and will ever share. We could never leave and be with someone else, because they simply couldn't compare.
I am looking for mutual obsession. An 'us against the world' mindset, as cliche as that might be. We know each other's secrets and memories, better than anyone else, and nothing is off limits. We have seen each other's darkest parts and moments, and still continue to stand by each other. We can be fully ourselves, unmasked, in front of each other, without judgement, in a way we can never be in front of anyone else. We know each other's passwords, bank details, we share everything and have an open accounts/phones policy but have no need to go through it as we trust each other deeply. We are always on each other's minds, and we never quite get over the hearts racing and butterflies feeling of an initial crush when we see each other, yet our love has far surpassed the depth of the initial stages. Of course, all this would come with time, but this is where I would like to end up, and hopefully, you do too.
I read this quote "heroes would sacrifice you to save the world, while villains would sacrifice the world to save you". Now I'm not saying I'm a villain or anything that ridicuously edgy, but the 'sacrificing the world to save you' perfectly sums up what I'm seeking from a relationship. I know this might seem toxic for some and that's okay, it's not for you. It might also seem sappy or impossible, and maybe it is. But I believe that if we both go into it with this type of mindset, we can make it happen.
A little bit about me:
As far as appearance I prefer not to post or send photos at first because I prefer to get to know each other's hearts rather than judging based on looks, as those are genetic and immutable, but who we are on the inside is the person we truly are. However, to give somewhat of an idea, I'm 5'10, thin (but working out to get stronger), pale skinned with hazel eyes. I have dark brown/black curly, shoulder length hair and am growing it out so that's something to take into consideration if guys with long hair aren't your thing because I'm never going to cut it above my shoulders.
I'm a university student as I started my life a bit late but I do have my own flat and am searching for jobs. I'm involved in student life as I have been/am a committee member of several societies and am aspiring to be student president. I volunteer and do a lot of activism in my community and beyond, it would be nice to find someone who also wants to do activism with me. My current uni course is Politics, and after university I would like to either do a postgraduate or go into the field of politics. Be "warned" that I'm a communist and that's something that's quite important to me, so if that's a dealbreaker for you I understand, I would prefer someone who is also similarly left wing.
I am also working on transitioning to a vegan lifestyle so someone who is already vegan, accepting of veganism, or on the same journey is very welcome.
Some of my interests and things I would love to discuss: Astronomy, physics especially quantum physics, maths, the universe and how we got here, extistential crisis(crisees? crisis's?), whether we live in a simulation or not, religion, alien civilisations and what they may look like, politics, misanthropy, how to best take over the world, biology, music, our pasts and deepest fears + dreams and ambitions once we get to know each other better, disappearing from society and living off-grid, the increasing dystopia of late stage capitalism and the modern world, the increasing atomisation and individualism of the western world, which corrupt political leaders deserve to go under the guillotine, how to start a revolution, the liberation of the working class, Doctor Who, and many other things but this post is already going on for too long.
Hobbies (would be great to find someone who also has some of these in common!):
Hiking - a big one for me as it's my most common hobby and I love exploring, adventuring, and getting lost in nature. Writing - I've written six full length novels and am intending to get them published, currently working on my seventh. If you also write I'd love to exchange stories and read each other's! Roleplaying (nobody is too old to roleplay), martial arts, painting (I'm not very good at it but it's fun), acting, solving equations, playing the sims 4, taking psycheledics on occasion, and looking up the most obscure facts on wikipedia when I should be sleeping.
So, I'm going to put what I'm not looking for just so that if you are these, we don't waste each other's time and can both find happiness elsewhere. Please don't get offended if you belong in these categories, it doesn't mean you're a bad person just not what I am looking for:
Anyone who is bigoted/homophobic/transphobic/racist/speciesist/etc. No tories or anyone right wing. No smokers (I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke, it makes me nauseous). No hunters/fishers/anyone who's idea of a nice time in nature is killing animals for fun, we won't vibe. Nobody under the age of 20 as that's too young for me. Nobody religious, I am agnostic and we would have clashing values. The same with pacifists as its also a clash of values. I cannot have biological children and therefore can't be with anyone who does want them. I would consider adopting in the future, and would also love to adopt animals. Nobody who is hardline anti-drug as like I said I do psychedelics a few times a year and would prefer someone accepting of that (or even someone who wants to do them together!). No frequent p*rn watchers please as I find p*rn disgusting/exploitative and never watch it myself.
I would prefer someone with little to no experience. I have nothing against those with a lot of experience, but given as I myself don't have much, I would prefer someone who matches with me in that arena so we can learn together.
I would prefer people who are close to me as I really don't want to do long distance but if this resonated with you and you live on the other side of the world get in contact anyways, we can work something out.
If you've read this inordinately long post and still don't think I'm a complete nutter, feel free to shoot me a message! :)
