Here is the issue the pilot blew out on my circa 2013 75 gallon AO Smith/State propane water heater I know its old but I was hoping to get a little more time on it while I research water heaters.
Here is what brings me to reddit.

1. I called the plumber that I most recently used for a failed seage exactor valve. I thought he did a god job and but he was being paid by the insurance company so there is that. First, he tells me hat it is too old to repair and I need to replace it. Initial estimate is almost $5K. I pushed back and he then tells me that he can drop to $3600. I explain that I don't want to rush into repair without research and what is the price for changing the thermocoupler....understanding that it is a temp fix. That comes to almost $600. I tell him ok. Not happy but I need a hot shower. He comes back 15 minutes later and say that he can't get the parts needed for 2 weeks and that my best option is to replace. I tell him thanks but I will pass and pay the $49 diagnostic fee.
2. I then go online find manufacturer and call about getting a TC assembly. Not only is it in stock but I can have it shipped overnight for a little over $200. Success! Not quite.
3. Part arrives and i have watched enough YT videos to see that this is a fairly simple procedure, so i grab a bunch of tools and head to the basement. I quickly realize that the part sent does not match the current setup I have. It's missing the ignition button which has come with the replacement part. I check schematics and sure enough there is supposed to a button. I tell myself fine I will just put the new on with button and be GTG. Turn of the gas procede to lossen the connector nuts, the pilot tube and the igniter...no problem. The burner tueb will nut budge. I tried everything. Different tools, lubricants, hammer(gentle tapping didn't want to damage anything further). it would not BUDGE! double checked to make sure I was turning in the right direction(for you The Wire fans wanted to make sure there was no desk moving situation) nothing.

As far I can tell the last time the TC was changed in May '22 by a different plumber he somehow striped the nut and decided to use loctite...i guess he figured, rightly I wouldn't know and it wouldn't matter since the next repair wold require a new water heater.
So here are my questions:

1. Any suggestions on how to get the nut off? tried force, lubricant & blow torch(not real comfortable with BT).
2. Since I acknowledge that it is time to get another WH: should I buy it myself and hire someone to install? Should I hire someone and let them recommend? Should i go thru Lowwes or HD where I can get a military discount?
3. Also what are the are brands that you would recommend? I have seen the online ratings but call me jaded...most look like stealth marketing. Based on family and house size I definitely need +75 gallon and it has to be propane. BTW my plumber that I thought I could trust told at that size I can only go commercial....is that true?

I get the popup to send a recruit-able settler to the operational settlements (both vanilla and modded), but dialogue is just getting stuck and I have to move my camera out of the dialogue view to continue. the NPCs don't seem to indicate they've been recruited either. I talk with each of them a second time and I just get the same recuitment dialogue. Frustrating.
Also as a side note, I am running about 140 of these as "light" on Vortex, so the hard cap of 255 .esp files has not been an issue. Anyways, maybe there is a conflict here I'm not seeing.
