2024.05.20 04:06 jefe_desalsa Would you preorder a graphic novel from a website that wasn't kickstarter?

I am an indie creator and my team finished up our first graphic novel. We did a few small runs of books that we sold at 2 conventions in Mexico, La Mole in Mexico City and La Conve in Monterey. The response was great and we were lucky enough to sell out at both shows but we only printed 100 books each time essentially breaking even after cost of travel and printing. I would like to put in a much bigger order so we would be able to get them at a cost where we could actually make profit so I plan on doing a preorder campaign.
I am torn between doing a pre order on a website built for our project or doing a more traditional kickstarter. I am leaning towards a pre order on the project website because we have other things to check out like the soundtrack and fully animated music videos but I feel like people would trust Kickstarter more than a random website. What does the community think?

City of Toronto Real Estate Dynamics - April 2024【Daisy Huang】

In April, the average price of homes in Toronto increased by 3% year-on-year, while the transaction volume decreased by 5% compared to the same period last year.
Looking at different areas within Toronto, the average price in Downtown decreased by 2% year-on-year but increased by 2% month-on-month. North York saw a 5% year-on-year decrease, while Scarborough remained unchanged year-on-year but increased by 4% month-on-month. Midtown Toronto performed exceptionally well in April, with average prices increasing by over 11% year-on-year and month-on-month, while Etobicoke saw a 5% increase in both year-on-year and month-on-month average prices.
In terms of housing categories, except for townhouses, which saw a 6% year-on-year decrease in transaction prices, detached houses, Condo apartments, and semi-detached houses all saw a 2% to 3% year-on-year increase in average prices. Month-on-month, prices increased by 5% to 7% across these categories.
In April, transaction volumes for detached houses and Condo apartments in Toronto decreased slightly year-on-year, while semi-detached houses and townhouses saw slight increases. Looking at different areas, except for Etobicoke, transaction volumes contracted year-on-year in other regions.

2024.05.20 03:52 CornerCornDog Despicable Me calc - Minions survive large explosion

Feat here from the short "Competition". Minions survive a massive explosion from an underground building that reaches the surface and shakes the surrounding area. First things first, we need to find the height that the bombs fell from to get the distance from the surface.
We know from the intro that the entire facility is underground, and from this shot the room seems to be an above average height room. The standard height for a room is 8 feet, so we'll use 12 feet (1.5 times that) as a rough estimate (3.6576 meters). The bombs fall from this level as well.
Going frame-by-frame and using the second bomb that fell (the first bomb exploded early), it starts falling at 2:17:72 and the explosion happens at 2:52:56, meaning it took 34.84 seconds for the bomb to fall. Using this calculator, that comes out to a height of 5951.78 meters. Adding 3.6576 gets 5955.4376 meters for the full distance from the surface.

Method 1 - Explosion

We see that the explosion barely reaches the surface through the building. I'm not totally sure about this method, since the underground lair may have pushed the explosion farther than it would go otherwise, but I'm gonna calculate it anyway.
Formula for an explosion is W = R^3*((27136*P+8649)^(1/2)/13568-93/13568)^2, where W is the yield in tons of TNT, R is the radius in meters, and P is the shockwave pressure in bars (generally 1.37895). Using the radius of 5955.4376 meters (the distance from the epicenter of the explosion to the surface), the result comes out to 16975655.4103 tons of TNT.
16.976 megatons of TNT - City level
I'm a bit shaky about this though, so I'll calculate the ground shaking above as a result of the explosion as well.

Method 2 - Earthquake

The explosion shook the surface a lot. We know this isn't just a screen trick as the telephone wires were physically shook by this, meaning it actually did shake the ground.
Now it didn't just shake the ground, but the entire ground that we can see to the horizon. Of course it is obstructed by mountains, but we can get the distance from the farthest mountain and subtract the distance from the building to get the radius of the area affected. This area seems to best resemble New Mexico desert (lines up with explosives being tested there) and best resembles the Sandia Mountains. I can only find the prominence of the highest point (1,249 meters), so for an estimate let's just cut that in half for the farthest mountain (624.5 meters). The average height of a 1 story building is 14 feet or 4.2672 meters. Now we can get to angsizing.

2atan(tan(35deg)*(object size in pixels/panel height in pixels)) is the angsize equation
2 * atan(tan(35 deg) * (27 / 1944)) = 1.11437977804 degrees. Plugging that and 4.2672 meters into this calculator gets a distance of 219.39 meters from camera to building.
Mountain height (blue) - 45 px
2 * atan(tan(35 deg) * (45 / 1944)) = 1.85719555484 degrees Plugging that and 624.5 meters in gets 19,265 meters (that's technically farther than the horizon should be, but given that it's a mountain it'd be able to be seen from farther away)
19,265 - 219.39 = 19045.61 meters for the radius of the affected area.
Now we can get the distance from epicenter to edge with pythagorean theorem. 5955.4376^2 + 19045.61^2 = 19955.0118336^2. 19,955.0118336 meters is the distance from center to edge.
Given that everything was noticeably shaken, we'll say that it was at least a Magnitude V, as that seems the safest given how hard everything was shaken on this. Feel free to disagree with me on this part but I think 5 is probably the safest bet.
Magnitude at origin = (Magnitude at distance) + 0.0238 * (distance in km) 5 + 0.0238 * 19.9550118336 = Magnitude 5.47492928164.
10^((1.5 * 4.47492928164) + 4.8) = 1.028949173e+13 joules or 2459.24754547 tons of TNT
2.459 kilotons of TNT - Small Town level
I'm gonna be honest, that feels really low for what I was expecting. Ah well, more consistent town level Despicable Me. I think the City level might be a fair high-end but I'm not totally sure on that tbh.

No sé como explicarlo por lo que el título que puse suena medio raro, pero estas elecciones me hacen sentir que no quiero votar, porque no sé por quién votar ya que unos dicen esto y otros dicen aquello.
En su momento, y algo que me da mucha pena admitir, voté por AMLO, porque mi pareja me dijo que votara por él. Que él nos iba a sacar de la corrupción y que tenía muchos planes y propuestas buenas, que Anaya era un corrupto y si queríamos ver un cambio verdadero que por favor votara por AMLO.
Se la pasaba mandándome videos de C@mp3ch@n34ndo, shorts de Youtube y demás pro-AMLO y terminó convenciéndome. Ahora está haciendo lo mismo con Sheinbaum, pasándome videos donde Xótchil habla de una manera súper vulgar, dice groserías sin parar, y realmente me ha dejado con muy mal sabor de boca. Pero no quiero que gane Sheinbaum porque tampoco me cae bien y he escuchado muy malas críticas cuando tuvo su puesto en CDMX.
En mi familia dicen que votarán por Xótchil, más que nada porque ellos nunca apoyaron a Morena. Pero mi pareja me dice que el problema es que si no gana Morena (que siento que ganará queramos o no) se revertirán todos los intentos y esfuerzos del plan de la 4T. Siempre que le digo que no han hecho nada, me dice que es difícil limpiar todo el cagadero y desmadre que dejó el PRIAN todos estos años, y que yo estoy mal por pensar que cosas como el subir sueldos, reabastecer medicamentos y mejorar los servicios de salud es algo fácil que se puede hacer de la noche a la mañana.
Solamente quisiera sus opiniones. No estoy atacando a mi pareja, pero hemos discutido varias veces de este asunto y siempre dice que la que no sabe y la que está mal soy yo, cuando en las noticias solo salen casos de feminicidios, n@rcos, desaparecidos, y demás familiares. Aunque el PRIAN también tiene las manos llenas de sangre.
