Congrats to the German main that CAS'ed me within the first 5 minutes of the game in my Avenger before I had even fired a shot... I have now popped a blood vessel in my forehead and am typing this with so much venom that the space bar is at the risk of popping off!

Holy moly is the experience of playing Britain from BR1-6 been a relentless journey of self-immolation and masochism! In no particular order:

How can solid shot be this bad? The sort of person that answers that with "Historical accuracy" are the same people that play farmville with mods that adjust plant growth rates to real life values... where is the fucking lore-accurate modelling of russian tanks to account for the welding job so poor that the driver can piss out the edges without splash back? You press forward but there is a 50% chance that your spark plugs were actually sold off for turnips - go back to hangar and try again!

Why are there so many planes in my tank battles? And why do the british AA vehicles fire what i can only assume are old and stale hardened tea bags no longer sufficiently flavouring my piss, which i substitute for water in my tank that cant leave the spawn to go get some freshwater. I say fire, but ofcourse i mean throw left handed from atop my vehicle whilst screaming "For Queen and Country" at the top of my voice... "Well actually *pulls finger away from his prostate*, I think youll find the Ystervark has excellent muzzle velocity and firerate"... Look, just because the 3 blokes that operate that milk truck ran a comprehensive train on your closest relative (gender neutral, fucking hell its 2023 mate, get with the times) doesnt mean its a good idea to put them up against the german air force!

Uptier, downtier, it just doesnt matter - everything pens ya... Firefly, churchill or Avenger (its as far as i got), it dont matter, you have the survivability of a embryo at an Alabama fertility clinic... ie it doesnt matter if your mothers got some backups, you are getting flushed the instant a round touches ya. I bounced a shot from a tiger in my Firefly earlier today and I came so hard I had to book a session at that fertility clinic because im worried my count may be permanently reduced. I mean he killed me with the second shot but it was nice for a moment to see angling working. "ThE ChURchILl hAs eXceLLEnT sUrva", SHUT UP, everyone is running around with naval guns strapped to milk trucks or SUs that laugh in your face (im still salty from a 90degree sideshot that just inexplicably bounced on a SU152 that wheeled around and touched my tip for the kill.... im still flavouring my evening meals from the salt from that one"

So quick recap - We got shit ammo, shit AA, shit survivability, OK pen but some "lol magic" from russian angles which I can only assume have an extra dimensionality not measurable by my protractor, or mantlets that swallow more solid shot than your aforementioned relative during the milk round. And you can shove that argument about "just aim at the right place", I am not an encyclopaedia of armour values for every tank in the game, half the time im not rolling around with HE loaded either and Giuseppe seems to be the black knight from monty python because he can take a 17 pounder through the chest and still pull the trigger or his mate Mario will just scrape him off his seat and take his place in a flash... I can only assume the Germans and Italian AT guns have increased repair costs to account for the PTSD counselling they must get from getting half the crew brained every match but still fighting on...

There are absolutely no redeeming qualities about the British line up so far. When my blood pressure gets too high I just go play some T34 and seal club for a bit but then I start to feel guilty because I am not a psychopath despite the impression I may have given off so far. I had the Germans up to the tiger2s and had a pretty rough time facing tanks that existed after I was born in the 90s (possibly a slight exaggeration) so I thought Id give someone else a go. Dont worry, the person who suggested the Brits is currently locked in my basement pending free time for some butt stuff... Ive just been busy you know, between a 6month old and a crippling and self loathing session of warthunder i just havent had the time to exact my revenge.

What a shit game, fucking hate it. It took me 5 years to kick my league addiction (yeah... that the caliber person i am, sue me). If I could surgically remove all knowledge of warthunder from my brain i would, just to kick the habit. I would throw in a left nut to seal that deal too... its already served its purpose anyway. Fuck, FUUUUUUCK.

I just unlocked the Challanger and Comet and got about 3 games in before going back to 4.7. Fuck that noise if you think Im going to grind out the sabot rounds on that... nice try! I tested them in game and I can safely say I rather reach through the welding gap in a t34 and give a nice friendly handy to the driver.

Just gonna have another round real quick, be right back...

2022.06.20 13:04 UnfeatheredBiped Corn-based Supermodels - Midly disagreeing with OurWorldinData about agriculture and growth

I've also put this a more readable version post with embedded images here: https://featherlessbipeds.substack.com/p/corn-based-supermodels.
Consider signing up so my audience consists of more than just me and the pigeon who sits on my windowsill that I explain my hare-brained ideas to.
I. Introduction
Here’s an idea for you: If you want your country to escape poverty, get really, really good at growing corn.
Or wheat. Or potatoes. Or basically any other standard agricultural grain. After you’ve done that, set the economy to simmer and set a timer for a few years. Once the timer goes off, take the lid off the economy and, hey presto, you’ve got a fully grown manufacturing sector and now you're off to the races with modern economic growth.
When I pitch this to people, it tends to raise some eyebrows. Partially because of the incredibly mixed metaphors about cooking, racing, and ending poverty. Partially because it’s not especially obvious why getting really good at making food is going to make you really good at making all of the stuff that isn’t food.
To the first charge, I offer no defense other than that this is my post and I will mangle the English language as much as I damn well please.
As to the second, the mechanism basically goes like this:
II. Farmville
Imagine a lone town in the middle of nowhere (let’s call it Farmville) that doesn’t interact with any other towns. In fact, the people of Farmville haven’t even made contact with the rest of civilization. Life in Farmville sucks pretty bad. Every single resident has to perform backbreaking labor in the fields just to make enough food to avoid starvation.
The residents of Farmville would prefer if life wasn’t like this. Ideally, only some of them would work on the farms making enough corn and wheat for everyone to eat and then everyone else would do something else. A few years ago, Farmer Jack drew up plans for a widget factory (everyone loves widgets); maybe the rest of them could work making widgets? Unfortunately, they can’t switch to making widgets because then there wouldn’t be enough food for everyone and half of Farmville would starve to death. Bummer.
So, Farmville continues along in this rut until, one day, Farmer Jill gathers everyone together and announces that she’s invented something called the tractor. This new invention will double the output per person for everyone who works in agriculture. The Farmville citizenry is overjoyed; this means they will be able to send people to work in Jack’s widget factory while still feeding everyone!
From here, life in Farmville gets a lot better. The people working in the widget factory invent a whole bunch of mechanical things (trucks, machines, fertilizer, etc) that help them both with making more widgets and also make people better at farming. This frees up even more people to leave the farm and go make widgets and farming tools and so on and so on. Eventually, maybe Farmville decides that they would actually like to be able to eat more food than just enough to subsist, so they send a few people back to the farm from the widget factory to make a surplus of food. But, after enough time, the people over at Jack’s widget factory make so many mechanical things that make farming so much easier that only one person in Farmville needs to tend the farms and they still produce more food than Farmville could possibly eat if they tried. The residents of Farmville are now much better off than before, all of these new inventions mean that, on top of having widgets (something they didn’t have before), they now also have even more food per person than they started out with! It turns out improving agricultural output with a tractor was really useful.
Now, let’s say that you don’t think Farmville will totally solve the problem of food production. Maybe you think there is a hard cap to how much technology can improve the corn-to-person ratio. Even still, the exact final composition of what percent of Farmville is going to be working on the farm isn’t that important; it’s going to depend a lot on exactly how many widgets or bushels of wheat a person can produce in an day and what weight Farmville puts on having wheat vs. widgets. And no matter what, Farmville is still better off than they were before.
The point of our story is that until Farmville saw improvements in agricultural production they were stuck producing only food, because to be able to make anything else you need to be able to eat first. It’s only after you solve what’s been creatively termed “The Food Problem'' that you are able to spend your time doing other sorts of productive behavior1. Unfortunately, it's all that other, non-food related stuff like manufacturing and science that leads to the exponential growth we’ve come to expect from modern economies.
So, to get your country out of poverty, you need to get really good at growing corn.
Technically, we are discussing a slightly modified version of a specific “Structural Change Growth Model” proposed by T.W. Schultz in 1953, but I prefer Corn-based Supermodel as a way of referring to this idea2.
Is this mostly so I could use this graphic at the start? Yes.
https://imgur.com/a/t6dDShD
But, it’s also because structural change growth model is a really boring term that doesn’t really capture what is going on in the way that ℂ𝕆ℝℕ-𝔹𝔸𝕊𝔼𝔻 𝕊𝕌ℙ𝔼ℝ𝕄𝕆𝔻𝔼𝕃 does.
The “Supermodels” part of my term I’ve stolen from Hatcher and Bailey’s Modeling the Middle Ages (though I can’t guarantee it originates there).3 They use supermodels as a catch-all term for the grand models of economic and social development that get floated to try and explain vast swathes of human history. I think this sort of broad thesis about development probably gets to make it into that illustrious group, even if it isn’t trying to explain as long of a time-period as, say, a Malthusian model of all pre-modern growth.
III. Some Empirical Evidence
For the most part, I think the corn-based supermodel is a pretty good heuristic for how a country can kickstart economic growth. It tells a convincing story about why economic growth was so slow for thousands of years and then suddenly took off and, more importantly, it matches the data we have pretty well. Here are the charts of GDP and cereal yields in the UK from 1270 until now4:
https://imgur.com/a/Lpi6wov
https://imgur.com/a/3EaCjpE
It’s not just that total output of grain is correlated with GDP growth, here’s another chart from Herrendorf, Rogerson, and Velentinyi (2011) showing how the share of employment in agriculture and agriculture as a percentage of GDP has declined across a series of developed countries even while total agricultural production has gone up (implying that it is specifically agricultural productivity that has changed)5:
https://imgur.com/tkveaMa
Building off of this data about how currently rich countries got rich, it stands to reason that countries nowadays should experience the same results if they cranked up their food production.
That’s basically the thesis of this piece put out by OurWorldInData6. The author argues that one of the keys to solving poverty in subsaharan Africa is finding ways to significantly improve the efficiency of labor in agriculture. I think this is right. Well… I think this is almost right.
Here’s what the author, Hannah Ritchie, says about agricultural productivity and structural transformation:
“To escape poverty, farmers need to increase labor productivity – to produce more food per hour worked. It is a deep societal problem when most of the population works in farming and gets little money in return. The farmers’ families are unable to get a good education; improve healthcare; and to free up labor so that their children can become teachers or build new industries outside of agriculture.” ….. Some countries within Sub-Saharan Africa generate as little as half of this regional average. This makes it impossible for families to escape poverty. Most are smallholder farms. They need family members to work and contribute. They also often cannot afford to invest in education or other opportunities that might allow them to move into industries with higher wages. Without increasing labor productivity, most of the population will have to continue working in agriculture.
I read this as making two claims. First, that improving labor productivity in agriculture is sufficient for encouraging structural transformation. Second, that improving labor productivity is necessary for structural transformation
These claims definitely make sense under the story we were telling about Farmville.
More food (from productivity increases) → More people doing other stuff → Productivity improvements → Economic development.
The question is if Farmville is the right story in the first place for understanding development in the 21st century. That is, is modern sub-saharan Africa similar to Farmville?
In some ways, this is a clear yes.
Here’s a heat map of daily caloric deficits worldwide. It’s pretty clear that sub-saharan Africa would benefit substantially from being able to produce more food7:
https://imgur.com/a/TOUTq4b
So, both Farmville and our real world countries of interest are struggling to produce even a subsistence level of food. They share more similarities than that. Remember how Farmville had a widget factory that would have been a much more efficient use of their time, it’s just that they couldn’t afford to switch people to working in it? Developing countries seem to have a similar problem.
Gollin, Lagakos, and Waugh (2014) find that workers in developing countries who are working in agriculture earn substantially less and are less productive than those that are working in other sectors.8 This is really weird, we would expect workers who knew that they could earn a much higher wage in another industry to switch over to take advantage of that extra income. (Note: this difference in wage probably isn’t because of higher skills/human capital, Gollin et al attempt to account for this in their measurement).
A potential explanation for this is that workers are in some way trapped in the agricultural sector, perhaps because of constraints on food availability.
So far, it looks like our Farmville model is doing pretty well, the real world has similar scenarios of countries struggling to produce food and being unable to take advantage of higher productivity sectors that they would like to switch into. But, as I’ve been building up to, I think there are a couple of places where the story of Farmville and the story of the real world come apart
IV. Farmville No More
First, Trade. Farmville is an isolationist society with no contact with the outside world, something most developing countries aren’t. This means we have to consider the possibility of engaging with the outside world.
Imagine that 10 miles from Farmville is the farming town of Stardew Valley which, being much more efficient at faming than Farmville, is producing more than enough food to feed both towns (and has no interest in making widgets). Let’s also assume that a Farmville worker will generate more value per hour building widgets rather than farming corn. There is no reason to try and improve Farmville’s agriculture now! They should just immediately switch to making widgets and sell them to Stardew Valley in exchange for food. They will receive all of the benefits of industrialization while being able to purchase lower cost food from elsewhere. There would be no point in increasing agricultural output unless it would exceed Stardew Valley’s rate. So, in this model, agricultural productivity isn’t necessary for industrialization.
Of course, this also isn’t a perfect representation of the real world. Trade involves transportation costs, regulations and tariffs, and complex markets. But, the general point that agricultural production doesn’t necessarily need to be done domestically stands. For real world examples of this, the WTO maintains a list of developing countries that are net importers of foods that can be found here.9
Furthermore, the opposite problem can emerge, where trade incentivizes moving workers into agriculture instead of out of it. In Farmville, past a certain point of food production the demand for food largely disappears as the small domestic market is saturated. That is, each person in Farmville is only going to want to buy so much corn with their widgets. Under open trade, the price for agricultural goods is set by the global demand for food rather than locally, so prices shouldn’t decrease once everyone local has purchased enough. This means that a country won’t necessarily see a lower and lower price per corn cob for each additional one they produce (in economic terminology the market is closer to perfect competition where prices are taken as given).
Why does this matter? Because if this was the case, then productivity improvements to agriculture would actually increase the returns to agriculture relative to manufacturing (because production per hour is going up while prices remain constant), incentivizing workers to move from industry to agriculture.
Bustos et al. (2016) is a paper that provides super interesting evidence of this sort of phenomenon.10 They find that the introduction of a certain productivity enhancing technology in Brazil (new techniques that allowed more plantings per year) which raised the marginal product of labor (how much an additional worker would produce) pulled more people into the agricultural sector and out of manufacturing.11
So, productivity improvements both aren’t strictly necessary for structural transformation and aren’t strictly sufficient to cause to structural transformation. Instead, the results of productivity improvements are a function of the background conditions of a society and vary based on location.
The second place agricultural productivity improvements can fail to translate into industrialization is if the labor supplied to a sector is inelastic. By inelastic, I mean that the amount of labor supplied is not very sensitive to changes in various factors. So, where labor is allocated in the economy will stay the same even if productivity changes mean that it would be more efficiently used elsewhere.
Eberhardt and Vollrath (2018) find that elasticity of agricultural labor varies across countries and that differences in labor elasticity explain a fair amount of how countries respond to productivity increase (higher elasticity means you shift more people out of agriculture).12
Here’s a sort of weird example about how elasticity affects the labor supply after a productivity change to help you get your head around it.
Imagine Susy, a Farmville resident, gathers up all 50 residents and announces
“Alright everyone, I’ve figured out the solution to our food problem. I used my summoning circle to talk to Cthulhu and he said that if we all gather at the stroke of midnight and ritually sacrifice a goat he will increase our crop yield by ten-fold. But, he said it was really important that all 50 of us do it, otherwise Farmville will be consumed by a writhing, unknowable mass of eldritch tentacles.”
This is admittedly an odd example, but, arguably, Cthulhu ritual sacrifice is a totally inelastic form of agricultural productivity improvement. Even though food per capita will go through the roof from Susy’s innovation, you can’t transfer anyone to a different sector because then Cthulhu will eat you all. Thus, no structural transformation can occur.
I think that a more real world version of this sort of variation in elasticity is in the size of farms. Ritchie points out in their piece that a majority of farmers are located on Smallholder farms, <2 hectare farms usually farmed by a single family.13 I think these types of owner-operator farms are an example of where low elasticity may be problematic for structural transformation.
That is, when farms are really small, it seems likely to me that productivity improvements may result in less transformation in the allocation of labor. There are a couple reasons for this. First is that these families own a very specific type of capital that they are invested in and therefore are going to have higher frictions compared to if they were workers on a commercialized farm. When you own capital (livestock, land, etc) there are higher costs to transferring industries than if you are a wage laborer on a larger farm.
Furthermore, when you have a small number employees (just immediate family) on a farm, you have fewer options regarding how much labor you can select. A large farm with lots of employees can simply reduce how much labor they hire, releasing some % of employees into the industrial sector as productivity improves. However, at the other extreme with just one person, you don’t have the option to fine tune what percent of your current labor you want to keep. You just select whether to spend your time working on the farm or not (effectively either 0 or 100% of labor supply).14 This inability to fine tune labor is going to hamper the release of labor to industry, as smallholders won’t be able to release labor piece by piece.
Another reason smallholders may be inelastic is that we might expect elasticity to vary with the ease of migration. If you can’t afford to get to manufacturing jobs, it doesn’t matter how much they pay, you will still be stuck in rural areas. To that extent, elasticity is also a result of background policy choices in investment in infrastructure and redistribution, so we have another reason productivity improvements by themselves aren’t sufficienct for change.15
And migration isn’t the only way infrastructure makes smallholders less elastic. It’s pretty well documented that smallholders are less integrated into the market for agriculture and have fewer opportunities to sell their goods.16 This would also reduce the structural effects of productivity improvements, as the resulting income benefits of higher productivity would be smaller for smallholders as they won’t be able to offload products at as high rates as they otherwise could.
I should be clear that I’m not really that familiar with the literature on labor elasticity in developing country agriculture, so take my proposed mechanisms with a big grain of salt. But, there does seem to be decent evidence that smallholder farmers are less responsive to changes in economic conditions than other farmers and that they have a lower labor elasticity generally.17 So, we do have some evidence that labor elasticity likely dependent on the underlying makeup of the agrarian sector.
V. Conclusion
What should we make of the fact that agricultural productivity isn't necessarily a silver bullet? Probably not too much. I’m fairly convinced that no one factor is the silver bullet for development and, furthermore, something doesn’t need to cause development for it to be very, very good. Even if food isn’t going to always build you a manufacturing sector, producing more food is going to raise the incomes of farmers and make food cheaper. Those are important things to consider! The World Bank thinks improvements in agriculture have around 2.5X the impact on poverty that improvements in other sectors do. That’s a really significant way of improving the world, even if it doesn’t necessarily result in compositional changes in the labor force.
I also don’t want to sound like I don’t think that agricultural productivity has any effect on structural transformation. It definitely did historically and it definitely still does now. The takeaway here should be that it is neither a necessary nor sufficient condition for industrialization, not that it isn’t desirable.
Finally, I should make it clear that I think the OurWorldInData piece is actually very good. My disagreement is A. very minor and B. possibly incorrect. The author is both much smarter than me and also an actual expert on the subject matter (I have shamelessly stolen their graphics throughout this post). I am a 22 year old with an internet connection whose only professional experience with agriculture is getting paid by my grandad to pick tomatoes in his field part time one summer. Evaluate my critiques with that in mind.

  14. This is a simplification. Workers can and often do split their time between sectors both within seasons and seasonally. The point is just that rigidities emerge as farm size decreases that make optimal allocation of labor much harder.
  15. I should note that the author of the Our World in Data piece directly acknowledges this point. My disagreement is just that she frames it exclusively as a barrier to productivity improving, while I think it is also a barrier to productivity improvements mattering.

2021.12.10 10:45 Consistent_Group_921 So I have a crazy business idea to start here in the Philippines...

Hi, i am a Filipino who wishes to build a start-up that looks forward to help our local farmers be more recognized and be paid what they deserve without compromising the quality and the affordability of the products.
Im thinking that having an app in which our local farmers are the spotlight, with their usual harvests and the preferable time of harvest is shown, with prices indicated, along with their farming background, location (province), experiences, their help buddies (carabaos and horses) and their agricultural practices, we can help them sell their crops and grains directly to consumers so that they won't be downplayed by anyone whose taking advantage of their hardworks, and more Filipino citizens can really acknowledge and get to know our Filipino farmers on all provinces nationwide.
I'm also thinking that in the same app, we can also add a game, which would be point-based system in which points are converted to crops/harvest's prices and donations, in which you play just like it's Farmville, but you can actually get your harvests in real life. You can plant your own rice crops, or buy crops that are in season and have it delivered to your own home. This way, it is not only engaging for our customers/clients, but it would also help boost and endorse our farmers and maximize the use of our fertile soils (since we are known for our rich agricultural heritage for hundreds of years).
I am a grandchild of a farmer, and grew up in a town where a bountiful harvest thanksgiving celebration takes place every year, and having this idea really makes me really happy and really motivated to have our Lucbanin farmers be recognized for their hardworks. If in case that my start-up idea will be successful, I will owe everything to my lolo who fed hundreds of families by his own hardwork and his team.
PS. If in case that you're interested with what you've read and wants to help or support me with this, please send me a PM so that we can discuss further on how we can establish such start-up.
*You can also send me a message if you're interested with my writing style. I am in no way a formal writer, if that's what it's called, but I do enjoy writing, especially if the subject/concept relates to my passions, my aspirations and whatever that makes the world a better place. :)
Another PS. The sentences above may not be grammatically accurate as I am not a native English-speaker. Please let me know if I should edit out or tweak some sentences to make the phrase sound right.
If you're still reading until this last sentence, thank you so much for your time and attention! I am just a new member here on reddit (I just created my account today), so yea, let me just express my thanks to you all, and advance happy holidays guys! :)

Foxville.app Joins Solana Blockchain as a Decentralised Farm Gaming and NFTs Platform
Foxville.app is the First Decentralized Farm Gaming NFTs on Solana.
Create, build and harvest the farm of your dreams with Metaverse, NFTs and play to earn games on Solana.
DeFi and gaming are two constantly evolving spaces which have created many millionaires in the past few years. Gaming, DeFi and blockchain are the most talked about trio of this decade. Each of these is a complete space in itself that is evolving astronomically. Many projects have tried to introduce their features in them to create the perfect blend to facilitate their audience. However, some got lucky and some didn’t.
Foxville is one such platform that has incorporated the essence of this trio in its platform. It is a NFT based project with a play to earn game coupled with metaverses and cross-chain interoperability with an additional feature of staking. A perfect combo for gamers and investors.

What is it…
Foxville is a decentralized play to earn gaming platform that has integrated DeFi and gaming. It is a GameFi. It has an exciting farm based game unlike the usual old centralized free to play Farmville. Foxville has 11 different categories and 176 versatile traits. A quick comparison between the two can make it clear.

Foxville Farmville
Play to earn Free to play
Decentralized Centralized
Multiverses One universe
Better visuals, AR, VR Augmented reality
This was a quick comparison between our childhood favorite, Farmville and blockchain integrated GameFi, Foxville. However, there are other farm based games on blockchain too.

The game of Foxville depends majorly on Fox-Farmers. These Fox-Farmers will be able to harvest crops, and perform other farm duties to create a lavishing farm. These farmers can then sell their assets in the Foxville marketplace to generate wealth to upgrade their living standard and their farm.
Here we have more precise comparison for naive players.

What’s in it for me…
It works through offering dashing Foxman NFTs coupled with a play to earn game. It enables its users to generate passive income through buying and holding NFT for price appreciation, meanwhile allowing them to stake their NFTs in one of the staking platforms offered by the platform for APY of 60% and more.
Besides carefully catering to the needs of its investor, this platform offers an entertaining game for its audience. The game revolves around the Fox village community. It’s residents can create a small farm on a fertile piece of land and start earning tokens through performing small farm duties. As the players advance in the game, exciting features unlock. The game also offers different playing modes, where players can play against the environment or against other players as well. Moreover, the platform offers in-game item crafting and tournaments to keep its players entertained.
How do I get them…
In Addition to these, this platform offers 2D and 3D NFTs for its user to provide better visuals. To add further, this project has multiverses in its game with an added option of virtual reality and augmented reality. Players can travel across these parallel universes to unlock more exciting features. The Foxman NFTs are designed based on 10 categories and 126 characteristics. These characteristics are further listed on the rarity spectrum which majorly determines the value of NFTs.
Users can purchase the NFTs on the platform. The price of these vary. For 2D NFT the price is 0.5 SOL and for 3D NFTs the price is 2.5 Sol if you upgrade your 2D NFT into 3D NFT. In case your aim to make a fresh purchase for a 3D NFT it costs 5 SOL. Moreover, this project is affiliated with major marketplaces of Solana including, Sol.sea.io, Solanart.io, and others.

2019.10.17 18:27 Nollprocent I have never gotten a prized fruit

This is for Farmville 2 on the zynga website. Level 31, tons of trees, mostly heirloom, regularly fertilized. I have a grove of heirloom trees that always get fertilized. I have never found a single prized fruit. Am I missing something? Just finished a county fair with about 3k points in prized crops and 0 in prized fruit, even though I spend more water and fertilizer on trees to be honest.

2019.01.26 08:21 Other_worldlyDesires Ideas, Suggestions and Improvements to the game

This post is a more refined cross-post from my post on Nexon Forums:http://forums.maplestory2.nexon.net/discussion/comment/145250/#Comment_145250
The following are just ideas and thoughts that sounded good in my head but in practice, may not be feasible due to costs and resources required to make these changes/overhauls.
Warning: extremely long post ahead.
The point of this post is to generate discussion from player's POV on the design flaws of the game that the devs may consider or use to develop the game further to improve the current standing of the game. Please consider and deconstruct the flaws I may have with my ideas with your own innovations.
In my post, I will be going through namely 3 supposed main issues and a few other things in the game, namely Lifeskills and Dailies being too time consuming (relative to what we have now and in future) and gearing being too RNG dependent while being a huge meso sink everywhere.
Disclaimer: None of the numbers cited are fixed and can be adjusted to better balance time invested translate into progression.
1.Life-skills system overhaul.
Part 1. Foraging, Mining, Farming and Ranching to be compressed into plots of interactive land in your Alkemi+Berg Isles that lets you plant your desired nodes in a life-sim like management game. This means that Alkemi and Berg isles are to be converted into a side plot of land area that you access from your home portal for you to cultivate and manage your harvest like in Harvest Moon. This area loads you into your own plot that you can also decorate like your home (expanded with life-skill levels) that anyone can visit.
Planting and Collecting the same items 2 days in a row 'depletes' the plot.
Leveling up life skills grants you more plots of land to work with and to make it in-depth, the plot has to be cycled with different lifeskill nodes E.G: crops -> ore -> herbs ->animals->crop to 'fertilize the land' and so on to remove the 'depleted' status. In similar vein to Farmville, visiting friend's house grants you x1 Fertilizer (max 20) per day which boosts material gains from the node next day. Visiting guild mates houses bypasses the limit.
Planting/grazing specific herbs/ore/animal/crops for the next day's specific bonus collection grants bonus gains and exp depending.Auto gathering badge automatically collects, plucks weeds, plants, fertilizes and waters everything optimally (adjustable to your specifications) when you return home. For non-badge users, you gain everything there is to have from the plot at a single interaction. It's just slightly inconveniencing to have to individually collect. pluck weeds manually, plant, fertilize, water and check manually which items to plant for tomorrow's bonus. Ideally this new system should not take up as much time as it would right now but brings into consideration that we should account-bind all life-skill levels. The amount of items you gain in accordance to how many characters you have.
Part 2 Crafting has to be changed drastically whereby crafting items are instant at a base 1:1 ratio, increasing as your craft level goes up (cap 1:2 for buff items, 1:10 for potions seeing how abysmal current rates are). You will gain a small amount of craft exp per item craft. All items are craft-able but crafting things beyond your level results in lower gains and may fail.
This in turn, means the craft-able items require a re-organizing/revamp of tiers of craft-able items to have much more fitting item/item buff associated with the tier. Tin whetstone/Lavender candle outperforms their high tier counter parts (platinum/yarrow) in terms of efficiency while cooking/handicraft offers similar buffs but at a heftier price (requires more materials) to craft which should be reduced.
Lifeskills exp buffs should also be reworked as the best life-skill exp boosting items require lv12/13 at which it becomes obsolete. Instead, change them into a craft-able passive buff that requires increasingly higher level (up to lv9/10) materials to craft as you increase the potency of the passive buff.
I.E:
Chicken Pouch (Handicrafts lv1) - Passively increase Mining Exp+Collection gains (in general) by a small X%.
Griffin Pouch (Handicrafts lv9) - Passively increase Mining Exp+Collection gains (in general) by a large X%.
Snail Slate (Handicrafts lv2) - Passively increase Mining Exp+Collection gains (in general) by a small X%.
Dragonhorn Slate (Handicrafts lv10) - Passively increase Mining Exp+Collection gains (in general) by a large X%.
To efficiently raise crafting levels, players are to pay a small meso fee to participate in a mini-game (unlimited entry) similar to Cathy Mart where you do minuscule things to fulfill an objective with activities ranging from and not limited to:
1. Hammer repeatedly on action sporadically (smithing)
2. Time action key to drip chemicals into a tube (alchemy)
3. Press multiple sequenced buttons to mix/chop (cooking) and/or
4. A mix of all the above (handicraft).
Those 4 actions are just an example and can be modified/randomized. A significant amount of crafting exp is gained for completing the mini-game objective. All party members gain exp towards all life-skills but not as much as your assigned role's lifeskill. You need to choose your role for faster specific lifeskills exp gains.Players at max level crafting may still play this mini-game and will be rewarded with an assortment of materials/items for playing with players at lower craft ranks than them. Lower rank players gain slight bonus exp.
You can do it solo (scaled to one specific craft per time but exp gains are way higher) or in a 4/8 man party to multi craft (gains are spread out) and increase exp gains rate for playing together in the mini-game area with each member assigned a craft to handle and manage. Individual and team performance factors into chance of a bonus 'fever' stage where you continue the mini-game a bit more to gain bonus exp towards all craft skills. The crafting exp will be increased by the player's passive crafting exp buffs from the section above. Lifeskills would become time and personal/social investment instead of a 'bothersome anti-social but lucrative' activity.
The alternative to overhauling would be for the dev team to alter amount of items gained per collection and remove the RNG aspect completely. Crafting adjusted to become instantaneous. Both activities takes upwards to an hour of doing absolutely nothing/mindless un-fun to do as 'content' that is incredibly profitable and hard to pass on.
Fishing may or may not need changes but I could not find myself enjoying fishing when at low levels (tedious to level) as nothing feels rewarding before reaching Master Fisher.
I cannot think of any interesting ways to improve it but add value to it and hope someone reading my post is able to cook up ideas to improve the experience. Fishing can be made into an avenue where fishes caught (regardless of fish species) grants you a generic fish fillets. Higher level fishing and Rarity/Grade of fish also grants more fillet item that you can cook at home to use as a source of potion. This fillet can behave like an Elixir heal % heal or potion X value heal depending on how you decide to cook it. The "Oven" furniture can be re-purposed to allow for cooking.
An example, Cooking:
Individual: x1 Fillet cooked = X amount healed, x2/3 Fillet cooked = higher X amount healed
In A Set: x5 Fillet cooked = X% HP healed
Playing music should grant you a non-stackable solo/ensemble buff but with other home/item/skill buffs depending on circumstances:
Solo: Higher att buff values, dependent on bard/musician levels, max 15 mins.
Ensemble: Wider variety of buffs on top of att i.e +1 life count in next dungeon, buffs depends on variety of instruments used, dependent on highest bard/musician player level, max 30mins.

2.Dailies
I'd make another drastic suggestion here: Making it into a weekly instead with rewards adjusted to reflect this change, maybe even increased from before as well. Seeing how in future we'll have more things to do, Sky-fortress dailies have to be also adjusted for future contents as well.
Introducing a new sky-fortress reward structure: reaching 'Known' allows you to have the ability to choose auto clear and collect everything under ranks C, 'Respected' clears all B ranks and so on while keeping the current progression sky fortress has. This will, it'll feel more like an investment than a chore to do these dailies.

3.Gearing
Toad's were an overall, successful addition to the gearing aspect but the success chances/fail stack gains could be re-adjusted as there are still instances where upgrading from +8 onward can fail rather often.
Here are some of my own takes for current game adjustments:
A. Epic accessory to cost 0 meso for combining. Having to pay for the gear you earned in the dungeon doesn't feel good at all.
B. Socketing accessories to be 100% for the first slot, 40% for the 2nd and 20% for the third. More catalyst may be used to increase it up to 50% chance for 2nd and 3rd sockets.
C. Gemstone & Socket upgrades to cost no crystal fragment with dust selection box purchasable with meso from GUILD merchants at guild lv 2.
D. More dust purchasable as you level up guild merchant with the guild merchant/general upgrades cost lowered- T1 to T5 Gems to have decaying success rates starting from 90%, but can become 100% if you are able to pay up the exponentially increasing cost by tiers, current T5 - T10 upgrades low success rates to remain.
**E.**Attribute change to cost blue/green crystals OR crystal fragments to change while forking over slightly more resources with Peachy guarantees a single attribute line that you want. Using green/blue crystals allows for locking/results in higher % on the attributes and crystal fragments on the lower end.

4.Side Activities
Outside of dungeons, it would be refreshing to see more social games be it PvE or PvP like 4v4/8v8/10v10 man sports game like soccer, team based games like tower defense/capture the flag/team death match with spectator mode on. Many people have been looking forward to and hope to see Mushking Royale make a return and it should be a fair indicator of how sorely this game lacks competitive but viable non-dungeon related content to gear up from without feeling like we have no alternatives. This would make for great streaming/entertaining content for content creators to help promote the game. Current content we have are simply far too dry, un-interesting or un-fun to watch/make content out of due to the heavy emphasis on grinding repetitively mundane dungeon and gearing.
Participating in these games should yield precious rewards with winners getting more event/kay's coins (than those who didn't win) that can be exchanged for an assortment of stuffs ranging from craft materials, c/onyx, epic weapons/armors, accessory re-rolls, B4 keys or catalysts like a set of toad's (at a cheaper price than epic weapons) making non-dungeon contents equally competitive as dungeon players to a certain extent without feeling the burnout. We would still have to learn and fight our way to earn legendary gears. More variety of game modes and rewards can be added to extend the life-span of this content indefinitely.
Personal side rants
My other personal gripes with this game is why isn't trophy, exploration, emotes and event reward items account wide.
There's little reason why these aren't implemented on a account basis and is causing players who wants to try out new things/classes to play restrictively with these conditions in mind. Trying out new things without restrictions extends the game life for the niche group I and a few others belong to.I for one would not mind spending money buying all emotes if they were account wide and would do trophy+exploration that was built up if they're account wide too but currently I do not feel any desire to do anything of those on any my alts as I have to re-do everything each time I want to try a new class. It's also rather irritating that I would want certain items spread across my alt or accidentally opened event character-bound on loot items that I'd want on my other characters with no other ways to transfer them.
Another thing that should have been account wide is friends list AND a working buddy chat. The club system just doesn't live up to the expectations and misses the mark that people have for a nostalgic feature present in MS1 and the magic of talking to all your friend who at the instance who happens to know your friend as well without you knowing and making friends via your friends just feels so much more special. Much of the community have been wanting for this feature again.
On the topic of community, fairfight definitely has to go or be nerfed. It's currently detrimental to an obviously dwindling community and hurts the remaining/new players due to the widening gap of dungeon requirements forcing newbies out. Not many players want to run their dungeons with newbies since they will inevitably slow down the dungeon run time. World bosses are now just time wasters if you don't have a good amount of people hitting the boss. The situation worsens past weekends as much of the population have cleared their Sky-fortress Weekly Missions/Daily Mission and those who missed out suffers. Another time waster would be time and money investments into catching an epic pet not translating well for unlucky players. With recent updates to KMS pet system to allow for pet evolution, it should be brought to GMS ASAP, or at least, return/give us the alternatives to getting an epic pet that's ever-so coveted by most players.
I've come across a suggestion that mounts/pets acting as a skin for the best mount/pet but this was never discussed anymore. Also ideas of having your other characters roaming in your home and interacting with objects/furniture would make/give housing the extra personal touch to the experience.
Land plots should remain at the 90% discounted price as the least-used-part-of-housing content is finally utilized due to the outrageously high cost to maintaining the lease since a select few were able to afford the cost.
As a final foot note, trophies should have milestone/desirable rewards i.e character bound pets at least if they're not intending to making trophies account wide for doing mostly mindlessly unrewarding x100/500 tasks.Prestige level up box needs to be looked into as they give out mostly rubbish/unhelpful items that are usually given in incredibly small amounts.Exploration goals and the rewards needs a revamp for the time investment into these areas are as quite many put it, unrewarding for the work you have to do.
