2024.05.11 19:28 somespeculation Who is Misan Harriman? Background on his connection to Meghan Markle, Nigeria. How they met to present. Facts and links.

Background: Nigerian. His father was Chief Hope Harriman, described as a political presence, philanthropist, businessman, and a ‘founding father of modern Nigeria.
His uncle, Leslie O. Harriman, was a Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the UN; before that, Nigeria’s Ambassador to Kenya and Uganda.
There is a TON of oil money in Nigeria, which dovetails the business interests (like Misan’s former business partner, Boris Becker).
Misan Harriman got Borris Becker to invest his millions in Nigerian oil. A deal that flopped for Becker.

(Post is being finicky with pics and screen shots. Please add additional proof in comments below.)
Please upvote so these details don’t get lost in all the other posts about the Nigeria trip. Thank you.
1. 2013 - November. Meg attends the Global Gift Gala in London with Oliver Cheshire. Stays at Soho House (posts on her Instagram).
https://archive.ph/2023.10.01-225241/https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-5655169/amp/2013-footage-Meghan-Markle-sees-say-wants-stick-London.html
2. 2013 - November. Tatler magazine (UK) publishes an article about all the Nigerian wealth in and around London’s VIP social scene. Emphasises their millionaire status, including connections to brands like Cartier.
Misan Harriman is specifically mentioned by name. Notes he’s been hanging out at exclusive clubs mentioned below.
https://archive.ph/2023.10.01-205522/https://www.tatler.com/article/the-nigerians-have-arrived
Exclusive members club at 5 Hertford Street. Annabel’s, George, also exclusive private members clubs owned by the same owner.
https://archive.ph/2023.10.01-192616/https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-10364269/amp/Inside-one-Londons-secretive-private-members-club.html
2014 - May. Markus Anderson partying in London with Edward Enninful.
3. 2014 - November. By now, Meghan and Misan are friends. She’s posted about him on the TiG by name.
Misan only ever states that he met Meg “at a charity event in London” during this past period.
According to Bower, Meg reaches out to Misan begging to be introduced to Boris Becker (his business partner) in order to secure her a speaking spot at One Young World in order to help launch her on the elite charity circuit. Boris Becker who invested - and lost - millions in Nigerian oil. In which Misan’s father and uncle are heavily politically and business-wise invested.
Boris’s agent? Gina Nelthorpe-Crowne. For many years, until around 2021, she was frequently pictured with Meg and described as a “friend and business advisor.”
Who did Gina also work for? Ralph Lauren. The same Ralph Lauren that sponsored Wimbledon.
4. 2016 - June 30- July 3.Meg is in London for Wimbledon, pictured wearing Ralph Lauren, to cheer on Serena, while staying at Soho House. (not July 4th as she conveniently backdates it for American independence narrative). This is also her “first” date with Harry. See my other post for fact checking that (confirmed they were in each other’s Instagram DMs before that. She slid into his.)
5. 2016 - Missan and Meg hang out at a Mayfair private member’s club at 5 Hertford Street. He is NOT a photographer at this point, he’s in ‘finance’’. Details? According to Finding Freedom, this was THE NIGHT BEFORE her “first” date with Harry. Who can look up it’s name?
https://archive.ph/QOyIa
6. 2016 - Missan launches What We See. This article also repeats that Meg told Misan he introduced her to the mutual friend who introduced her to Harry, implying Misha Nonoo, which is false.
https://archive.ph/I58Gz
7. 2017- Met his wife, Camilla Holstrom. SHE WAS A SWEDISH PHOTOGRAPHER. Can’t seem to find a marriage date for them, just a vague sense of a ‘private’ wedding, and their first daughter was born in 2019. (He applauds her photo at age 5 in 2023). Meaning she would have been pregnant in 2018. She was the one who taught him about photography; it’s mythology that he’s self taught. He just was in the right place, at the right time, with the right racial background, for the BLM protests photographer fame.
https://archive.ph/clQok
8. 2018 - Missan attends Harry and Meg’s wedding.
9. 2019 - Missan is commissioned as the photographer for Meg’s guest editor of British Vogue.
10. 2019 - Missan shoots Beatrice and Edward’s engagement photos. Interesting tidbits from this biographical article on him is that he allegedly introduced Meg to the the “mutual friend” who introduced her to Harry. We know this is false. Meg knew Misha Nonoo via Markus back from Art Basel in Miami in 2014. Maybe Meg lied to him (unless he’s referring to Gina M-C.)
https://archive.ph/QOyIa
11. 2020 - Meg contacts Edward Enniful of British Vogue about guest editing their Sept issue. Misan Harriman is recruited as the photographer.
12. 2020 - full profile of Misan’s BLM shots. Interesting that some of the earlier ones appear to be shared credit with his photographer wife. Know where it was published? Soho House website. Now why would that be?
https://archive.ph/1Lmil
13. Valentine’s Day, 2021 - Missan’s black and white Lilibet pregnancy announcement photo drops. It was taken from an IPad while he is in Britain. He photoshops the symbolic ‘tree of life’ into the background. The date matters: Diana announced her pregnancy with Harry Valentine’s Day, 1984. Meg is roughly 24 weeks pregnant in them, or less (depending when it was shot), based on Lili’s birthday.
https://archive.ph/QOyIa
14. 2021 - appointed the Southbank Centre Chair.
https://archive.ph/21LL8
15. 2022 - March, Misan takes pics of Elton John’s Oscar Party. Know who wasn’t invited? Godson Harry and Meg. Ouch.
https://archive.ph/LzZRg
16. 2022 - March, Edward Enninful of British Vogue gets married. He was the behind Meg’s 2019 guest editor of British Vogue. Missan Harriman was the hot BLM photographer and shot the photos for it. But BOTH MEG AND MISAN weren’t invited to the wedding, despite the many, many, celebs her were. Makes you wonder why? Piece de résistance? Hosted by the Marchioness of Bath, the biracial beauty Emma Thynn. Very clearly Meg wasn’t invited.
https://archive.ph/dVmd9
17. 2022 - April. Misan is invited to the Invictus Games in Amsterdam to take photos by Harry and Meg.
https://archive.ph/LzZRg
18. 2022 - May, Mayfair in London. Elton John’s AIDS Foundation fundraising event. It appears Misan wasn’t there, but there are black and white pics release from the event in his style. Know who was invited? Enninful. Know who wasn’t? Harry and Meg, yet again. Interesting as well that Achewell has not donated to Elton’s charity, especially with a cause so close to Diana’s heart as well.
https://archive.ph/ofhKn
19. 2022 - June 4. Misan and his family are at Lilibet’s first birthday at Frogmore. His children had their faces painted earlier in the day at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations (why Archie and Lili’s aren’t painted). The only other guests are paid vendors; it’s why the only other photo is of Meg with the cake lady. Meg is so incensed they fly back to the US June 5th, skipping the Platinum Jubilee concert entirely.
https://archive.ph/LzZRg
*Earlier, there are reports that Harry and Meg want their “private photographer” they have with them to take photos of ‘Lilibet meets Lilibet.’ * This request is firmly denied by the Palace, as that would mean that Harry, Meg, and/or Missan than own the distribution and copyright rights.
20. 2022 - October. Meghan Markle reveals on Archetypes that she is 43% Nigerian and ‘has known that for a few years.’
https://archive.ph/2023.12.18-155117/https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/royal-family/meghan-markle-nigerian-archetypes-podcast-b2210133.html
43% is exactly the same percentage written about in an earlier article by Georgina Lawton.
https://archive.ph/wip/f4UCs
21. 2022 - November. Confirmation that Misan Harriman is connected to Ngozi. The woman who accused Lady Susan Hussey of racism at a Palace event. Ngozi is a chosen name, relatively recent in her life. The clothing worn to the event was her of version of ‘African’ clothing as was a mix mash of different groups, not solely Nigerian.
Also interesting that Ngozi was a guest of another invitee; she wasn’t invited herself.
Also of note is Lady Susan Hussey:
https://archive.ph/2022.12.03-055041/https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-11486173/Who-Lady-Susan-Hussey-Ngozi-Fulani-race-row.html
What else?
2022, when the Palace incident occurred is when Ngozi’s charity, Sister Space (she founded it in 2015) was being INVESTIGATED by the Charities Commission for financial irregularities.
https://archive.ph/2022.12.14-144148/https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11536883/Watchdog-assessing-claims-against-palace-race-row-accusers-charity-string-allegations.html
She stepped down from it in 2023.
22. 2023- his film, The After, won Best Live Action award from the Hollyshorts Film Festival. As such, it automatically gets an Oscar nomination this year. Bet there will be congrats from Meg, and predicting she will “coproduce” a similar project shortly to help her own Oscar quest. Rumored Meg is after an EGOT, but in the ‘easier’ categories, like this one for an Oscar, spoken word for a Grammy (ie reading her biography, whispers that the plan was for Harry to be mom instead with Spare), Emmy (was supposed to be either their Netflix doc or the Oprah interview, haha), and Tony (her Roxie Hart celeb summer stint on Broadway in the distant future).
23. 2023 - October. Special ‘behind the scenes’ photos of Harry and Meg (NOT the veterans, of course) are released two weeks after the Invictus Games in Germany wrap up. Who was the photographer that was with them? Why Misan Harriman, of course. (Plus you have to laugh that it’s Yahoo Finance that keeps reporting on Harry/Meg. Wonder who the friend is Omid still has over in that Dept. from his days as a Royal reporter for Yahoo).
https://archive.ph/iaYSb
24. 2024 - May. Of course Harry and Meg are on an ‘official’ visit to Nigeria currently with Misan Harriman.
Follow the $$$.

2024.04.02 09:58 Candid_Cake5751 Regency Era suggestions

Am currently chipping my way through the Bridgerton book series and really enjoying them. I haven’t read much from that time period, and would like some more. What suggestions does every one have?
The only other time I’ve read a Regency era book, was Meg Cabot’s Nicola and the Viscount and Victoria and the Rogue. So looking for something more adult! Haha Also doesn’t necessarily need to be romance, as long as it’s graceful 😇

2024.03.30 22:40 yodelinggirl Figured out who Kyra Parsi reminds me of !!

So I've read most of the novels Kyra Parsi has put out and I genuinely love her writing style, I may not be *obsessed* with each book/MMC but I have consistently enjoyed her writing style. I live for the FMC's inner dialogues, the humour (self-deprecating and otherwise), the banter, the FMC's Girls girl energy. I love it all!
Today, I read her latest {Failure to Match} and while I was reading I felt a strong sense of familiarity or like the FMC was reminding me of someone and by the end of it I figured it out. The FMC's and their inner dialogues remind me so much of Mia from The Princess Diaries!! I literally grew up on those books and all of Kyra's FMC's are so reminiscent of Mia's sense of humour, cluelessness and her interests (cats etc). Even the side characters and their involvement is so much like that in {The Princess Diaries} and I absolutely adore it. Each of her HEA endings give me the same giddy feelings I used to get when Mia & Michael would have a moment.
I absolutely loved, loved, loved Meg Cabot growing up so it only makes sense that adult me is in love with Kyra Parsi and her story telling. It's like Meg Cabot but with all the steam ahhh. I hope she keeps churning out novels because I am here for them all. I just hope that she can keep away from formulaic story progressions. I was a big Ali Hazelwood fan but honestly have a hard time differentiating between books and stories because of how similar and redundant they get.
Any other Meg Cabot/ The Princess Diaries veterans who have read Kyra Parsi's books?? What are your thoughts ?

2024.03.05 05:39 molly_the_mezzo Middle grade books focusing on girls and friendship

My boyfriend's daughter is going through a phase with reading where she is very interested in books about girls going about their lives and negotiating social situations. She likes the Olivia Grace books by Meg Cabot that are a Princess Diary spinoff, and I've gotten her into The Babysitters Club, which has been a huge hit.
We're struggling a little to find good recommendations, her dad and older brother only really like books with a "hero's journey" format, which is not currently appealing to her, and my knowledge of this genre stops when I was in highschool, with books like The Clique, which feels incredibly dated (in an icky way in some parts)
What are girls who want to read about friendship groups and school and social lives reading these days? She is 8, and reads well above grade level. Reading comprehension essentially couldn't be a problem, but she's pretty sensitive and doesn't like more intense conflict or suspense like murders, significant secret keeping, etc. Some mild to moderate social machiavellianism is probably fine.
Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

2024.02.26 04:16 flyinwhale Books where people talk to ghosts

I’m looking for a book where the main character can talk to ghosts? When I was a teen I loved Meg Cabot’s mediator books so sort of looking for a more ‘grown up’ or evolved take on this concept. I also enjoyed the ghost whisper and medium when those shows were airing.

2024.02.26 04:09 Typical_Dance_3542 Children's Chapter Book I Read In Early 2000s w/ Light Green Cover & Adventures of Cornelius or something in the title - PLEASE HELP

I read a book in the early 2000s when I was a preteen. It was the age of Scholastic book fairs and the Amelia's Notebook series by Marissa Moss and books by Meg Cabot and Ally Carter and the series, 'A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket'. The book was one of my first chapter books and it had a light green or teal cover with white or black writing. It had a long title and I swear the word/name 'Cornelius' was part of the title, but searching that yields nothing. It was a story of a girl who meets an older lady and she tells the girl about her life. The title is long, like 'The Adventures of Mrs. Cornelius and me' or something like that? I remember it being about a woman or older lady who tells her life story to the main character while the main character is in her house. It was a chapter book for younger people and I remember there might have been a dog in it? Does anyone have any idea what I am talking about? Please, please help. Thank you!!

2024.02.25 00:34 gutfounderedgal THE TUNNEL, Week 5 “Uncle Balt and the Nature of Being” (Pages 116-146)

1. Summary

Uncle Balt is provided with a shout-riddled biography, as seen often through the eyes of ten-year-old Kohler. A mention of Kohler’s part in Kristallnacht, (9-10 November 1938) appears and we discover Kohler married only two years after those fateful nights. We meet the extended family. Kohler ponders and prevaricates on history throughout, as usual. Uncle Balt and the Nature of Being 1.1 Loudmouthed, a man with a bull’s bellow, bucking against puritanism, drinking the hard stuff, farmer, toiler of the land is introduced and described extensively. He lost his wife years ago and remains a bachelor, holding opinions that women engage in frivolous pastimes such as shopping, playing bridge, and golfing (119) and not realizing or not caring about the amount of work women do. “My grandmother slaved” (119). By the end of the section Balt is found dead, having snapped a leg climbing over a fence (126), by kids from the Conservation Corps.

1.2 Mad Meg

Tabor muses on history and offers advice on writing history to Kohler. A historian approaches events with one eye shut, framing events into the narrative that is desired. “You must make of them what you–what you—want them to make…” (127).

1.3 The Ghost Folks

We are going visit your father’s family, says Marty and off they go into the present and past. We discover the tree-like form of the family so, besides Uncle Balt we recognize: William Frederick Kohler (aka WFK [probably a nod to H.C.E. in Joyce’s Ulysses], Whiff Cough, and Herr Rickler), Martha Krause Muhlenberg (Marty, Peg, once PP FinneyneeFeeney), His mother Margaret Phelps Finney, a raging alcoholic, his father Frederick Karl Kohler, her mother Ruth Dilschneider, her father Henry Herman Muhlenberg, and her two sisters Cramer and Catherine (the younger); we also meet Kohler’s two sons, now grown and left, Carl and one he won’t name. Over time, his parents didn’t age, they simply sickened (135). His mother who had an affair with the breadman (rolling in dough, evidently) died five years before his father.

2. Analysis

Sections here, such as with Uncle Balt are perhaps characterized by less overt wordplay than previously seen. The narrative is in this first part more straightforward in comparison to some other parts including the last section of this reading section.

2.1 Uncle Knuckle

Uncle Balt is said to be the term, not the relation. We may read this in one of two ways, as in math where a term is a value upon which operations occur, and relation is relationship between numbers or sets, 3 has the relation of being less than 5, four legs is a relation to the set of all animals. Or, Balt is conceptualized as not a relation, as in family relationship but as something upon which the world acts, outside of the hysterics or dysfunction of the family.

2.2 In a Family Way

Once we enter The Ghost Folks, all chronological and memory hell breaks out in a beautiful brawl. It seems that everybody vibrates at a pitch. Tolstoy said, “All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” But here it seems that Gass is showing us that all unhappy families are alike in their dysfunctionality. It’s oppressive. He says, “My god, to be a man as I am—smothered with women and children like a duck with onions” (146). Family past and present tumble about and like Jacque Derrida’s idea of hauntology, specters haunt the present from beyond their graves creating an eerie space in which time collapses. Each memory becomes both a reality and a disturbance.

2.3 Is History Hysterical? Is Hermeneutics Heuristic?

While we’ve seen history in action, so to speak, there is some clear articulation of history and historiography in the section. Hermeneutics: the interpretation of the history book. Kohler thinks that his colleagues see time and history within time as linear, a slice of ongoing eternity (p. 129) in contrast to his view of time as “sifting and sweeping, piddling itself away” (129). We have heard previously from Tabor but now Oscar Planmantee is positioned as Kohler’s nemesis (129). For Planmantee (the plan man to a T), described as “a pompous positivist” (44), a mereological mindset governs the writing of history in which parts must be put into the right order to add up to the whole, “events are made of events” (139). One takes the colliding rebounding events, much like grains of rice thrown at a wedding (140) and orders them according to laws. What one needs, Planmantee says, is “an honest footing” (129). As for the rest: lives, human sufferings, “We average them out” says Planmantee (130). Mad Meg Tabor takes a slightly different view. You, as the historian select, to enter your work of history people and events must wait in line (127), they must to be selected to gain their posterity. While you may exclude nothing, Tabor also advises to discriminate, “don’t water too widely” (127). Here we begin to see the contrast of Kohler in which signifiers, words as things of the world, for example, an arbitrary relationship, lead into signifiers that signify other signifiers, chains, links, rhizomes, an arena where time and present, as with hauntology, blend, a place in which the molar and the molecular are both fluid and equivalent.

2.4 Windows are the eyes to the soul

I point out here the recurring theme of windows. Kohler says “Window through window: I want to pass” (146). And we find a good deal of the smashing or blowing in of windows, with a lightning strike (113, 116), the shattering glass of Kristallnacht. We get to keep this in mind as we watch for echoes.

3. Discussion questions

I’m happy to read your responses, opinions, speculations, and cited passages that may back up your views. 1. Kohler is angry, in a pervasive, ongoing sense. On page 43 he says, “When is the rage I contain going to find its utterance?” and in this section upon visiting his parents he says, “I shall be in a rage” (129). Many people work through their anger, or they have coping strategies that allow problematic events in life to roll off them, and they move on. Kohler seems stuck in anger. Questions for consideration: Why do you think Kohler is so angry? Why can’t he let go? Is an entry into this his musing “We’ve not lived the right life” (145) or is it a lot deeper? 2. Uncle Balt brings up Heidegger and Being. “He was Dasein’s quiet cancellation. Dasein indeed” (116). “Anyhow, Uncle Balt has yielded me a metaphor for Being, makeshift maybe, but an image in the form of a tall dark column of damp air, hole going nowhere—yes—wind across the mouth of a bottle” (121). Gass has used “being” as a noun before. But here we see “being” with a small b as changed to Being with a capital B, (he did capitalize it on 75 and you may find referencing that page helps in answering the questions) directly referencing Heidegger. Clearly the Uncle Balt section does not dive into an inquiry of Being nor of Heidegger. Questions for consideration: So why do you think Gass has done this? Has he engaged in a sleight of hand and Balt is not about being? If so, why? Has he explained the relationship of Balt and Being in a way that is more elliptical but nevertheless overt? How so? Why is Galt said to represent Being but not others?

Helpful vocabulary

A couple of words were tossed out that can be given a brief definition to save internet seeking. Dasein – Heidegger’s neutral term for our existence in a sense “being there” or “there being.” We are just here, beings in the world. Dasein can be examined for our understanding of our being. being – small b, refers to an individual thing that has Being or to a specific kind of being such as a human being. Being – capital B, refers to a quality shared by all beings. Being, reality, existence in general.

2024.02.19 01:51 TheTurtlecorn Midern middle school fiction, girl loves science, her parent(s) are chorus directors?

Hiya! My daughter remembers reading a "teaser" opening chapter at the end of another book, but can't remember the title. All she can remember is that the main character was a middle school girl who loved science.
In the chapter, her dad is directing a singing performance of some sort at the school, and the main character is sent off to get water for a coughing performer. As she goes to get it, she's explaining that singers need water that's not cold and not hot, and should stay away from dairy.
I tried using Google Gemini for help, and got the below as a possible suggestion... Only I can't find any record online of a book like this by Meg Cabot!
"Starring Julie: A Cinderella Story in Middle School by Meg Cabot: Julie loves science and feels out of place with her popular best friend. Her dad is a single father who is involved in musical theater."
Any help would be appreciated!

2024.02.05 02:01 Infamous_Cap_3271 Ghost romance recs

So I have a thing for ghost romance, but I don’t know if it’s a really big genre or not. What started my love for (imo) the ultimate forbidden romance started with Meg Cabot’s mediator series as a kid. I loved the dynamic of an old ghost helping, protecting the main character while also being a pain in the ass, and you know ultimately falling in love. Does anyone have a recommendation that would fit the bill? Spice is fine but not necessary, make or female lead is fine. I also like when there is a bit more horror element, like Anna dressed in blood, but I’m not necessarily looking for YA. TIA!

2024.01.29 19:12 irravalanche Praises to The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary

Hello friends! Firstly, last book I finished was “Book lovers” by Emily Henry which was a bit slow and had a bit of a distant feel, like you’re at a distance from the characters (which isn’t a bad thing per se) but it was overall enjoyable and the ending was very emotional, I gave it 4. And now I finished “The Flatshare” by Beth O’Leary and that felt sooooo much like my brand of romance (funny, contemporary, with a side of drama like Sophie Kinsella, Meg Cabot). It felt both like a light fun read, uplifting and positive yet it talked about emotional abuse, gaslighting AND HAD GOOD DRAMA. Like I was so invested in everything that was going on. Quite a lot was happening in this not-so-long book. I enjoyed the characters, their jobs, all the side stories, how Tiffy, the FMC, grew and became stronger, her healing journey really resonated.
I do feel it’s very similar in style and vibe to Sophie Kinsella. I also see Mhairi McFarlane recommended as similar to Sophie, but when I read Mhairi she had a more serious and less positive story to tell, quite dark - “Don’t you forget about me”.
Happy to find something that worked for me so much and will explore Beth’s other titles in the future. And of course, huge thanks for this sub that has so much recommendations and posts to look through!

2024.01.19 15:25 AdventurousAd5981 Hades/Persephone Adaptation

POSSIBLY SOLVED: MAYBE ABANDON BY MEG CABOT*
I read this book about a decade ago. I believe the cover was a muted blue/grey color. I think the male main character was called John. He was the “Hades” of the underworld but when he first takes “Persephone” to the underworld, she witnesses a Christian evangelist being taken to hell. She comments that it must be upsetting learning the religion you devoted your life to was fake. “Hades” explains that each soul witnesses whatever they believe to be happening so the evangelist was seeing angles, demons, and fire despite them standing by the river Styx. I want to say there was a graveyard that was the portal to the underworld and the girls mother and grandmother knew “hades” but had tried to shield her from her fate. Please help. This has bugged me for years.

2024.01.06 02:37 simpleplanfan6876 Looking for a new author

Growing up, Meg Cabot was my all time favourite author. I’m 31 now. Looking for recommendations on books/series that have a similar style to her writing (but that don’t take place in high school). Until this week I hadn’t read a physical book start to finish in probably 10 years :( I want to get back into it but need some recommendations :)
