2024.06.02 16:47 fatefuldawn FE Engage Maddening Low Turn Count (LTC) Ironman in 70 Turns

So I have previously posted about my No Paid DLC/No RNG Drops Engage Maddening LTC a few months back, and Iā€™m back with a new spin on this run - an Engage Maddening LTC Ironman. This run operates under all the conditions a regular Ironman playthrough of any Fire Emblem game would whereas the game must be completed without any form of resetting. This means no use of the Draconic Time Crystal, no Retrying maps, and if Alear dies, itā€™s Game Over. Simultaneously, since this is a Low Turn Count (LTC) run, I will be aiming for the lowest turn count I can under these restrictions. My goal was to complete the game in 70 turns, which saves 3 turns from my previous run. The full ruleset is as follows:
The run has finally been completed on its fourth attempt after some additional changes were made to make early game more reliable after failing three times before reaching Chapter 7. I have placed the full run in this playlist for easy viewing. The run was streamed since I think the unedited nature of streams fit Ironmans better, but do note that a substantial amount of time was spent in the Somniel for preparations, including playing the Bond Fragment minigames that have guaranteed rewards. For those who prefer to just see the map clears, I intend to publish individual, commentated videos in a traditional LTC format like my previous run in the future so please look out for those!
But for now, if you're interested in seeing some of the changes, I would like to highlight some of the more notable chapters in this playthrough (either because I implement a new strategy or because of a turn save):
Chapter 4, 5, 6, 7 are chapters I'm grouping together because there's a common thread linking them together. For those who are familiar with my previous run, I had two chapters (Ch. 6 and 7) where I relied on a crit to get the boss kills. In order to have enough reliability to attempt the same turn counts in an Ironman setting, my strategy was to get Louis 2 levels before Teronda attacks him in Ch. 6. The EXP management is very tight and my Ch. 4 and 5 clears were changed a lot in order to accommodate for that. And finally, for Ch. 7, that level 8 Louis is once again helpful in taking down Hortensia.
Jean Paralogue is now completed in 1 turn. Admittedly, this turn save is risky in an Ironman context because Amber and Diamant face a chance of death. Amber really needs to either dodge the Poleaxe (due to its large amount of effective damage) or dodge the first two enemies to survive enemy phase. And Diamant faces a 2% crit chance that surely results in his death. Nonetheless, it's a rout map with some interesting AI behavior and the power of a Mt Augmented Seraphim is put on display here.
Chapter 13 is still a somewhat risky chapter in this Ironman because getting the kills on Tetchie and Totchie is quite demanding in 5 turns. In order to increase reliability, I donated to Elusia level 3 before this chapter (whilst also donating to Solm level 2) to get an early Bolganone without the need to forge because I do not have enough ore for that. After getting the Spirit Dust and class changing to Sage, Pandreo is able to cleanly one-round Totchie with that Bolganone. Despite that, I believe Pandreo could potentially face a chance of death if Amber gets hit by Tetchie as Tetchie seems to attack Pandreo in that situation. And Merrin's crit rate on Tetchie is a bit suspect since I've seen Tetchie attack her if his Cornered Beast skill activates due to being under 50% HP. There's other small parts of this chapter like how Pandreo absolutely cannot crit a 3% on turn 1 that need to go in my favor, but overall, it's not too bad in terms of reliability after the countless changes that were implemented.
Chapter 16 is now completed in 2 turns. In order to get a 2 turn with my restrictions, a lot of staves were used to facilitate movement. Sniper Citrinne shows her power here and despite a lower turn count compared to my previous run, it's much more reliable as it has a 100% chance of success.
Chapter 22 is now completed in 4 turns. In order to get a 4 turn on this map, the heroes on the left side need to have a prompt answer. For other runs, that answer may be deploying a Panette with Wrath/Vantage or Lindon with Elsurge to get one-shot crits. In my case, I used Goldmary as an Axe General to choke the point with a Lyn Engraved Silver Greataxe+2. She just perfectly reaches the two-round benchmark against those heroes and survives three hits against them. And with some Luck and Hit inheritance, she's able to reach 100% hit as well. More optimization went into Kagetsu's combats and everyone's movement so that the map can be completed in one less turn. I do want to make a note of the jumpscare I got due to not inheriting Staff Mastery 2 on Hortensia. Luckily, if I forgot to inherit any skill, it was that one since Kagetsu was awesome and dodged lot in the clear so the extra healing from Staff Mastery 2 wasn't needed, but normally, that Staff Mastery 2 should be on Hortensia in case Kagetsu sustains more damage throughout the map.
Chapter 26 is a bit notable because I had requests to have Jean, Bunet, and Diamant deployed in this chapter. So I showcase how low some of the Dark Emblem benchmarks are for the users of the matching Emblem. A level 2 Jean that reclassed to axe fighter was able to kill Veld, base Bunet was able to kill Loptous, and a Diamant that got 1 level in Griffin Knight would've obliterated Medeus with a Georgios Lodestar Rush if I allowed him. Alas, I did need to make it so that Diamant did not kill Medeus for the rest of the chapter's clear because I was going to use Engage+ this time around.

first off I'm suuuper new to Linux. only jumped to Linux mint yesterday so please feel free to talk to me like a 3yo when explaining things or i just wont get it, assume i know nothing of how anything works.
So I was on steam and wanted to look at one of my friends profiles to see how many hours he had in a particular game, only to find an Error Code: -105, unable to connect to server. I then went to Firefox and tried accessing his profile there only to be met by another connection issue. everything else internet related works. I'm in a discord call as a write this, I can watch you-tube, I can download files and I can obviously use Reddit. Its only steam and its only the Community related pages. I cannot access the community page, i cannot access my own profile or anyone else's. No workshop, no discussions no market etc.
I can still access my games and even play them online, i can access the store and points shop as well as steams stats page. This would appear as simply a bug related to the Linux version of steam but considering i cant access it in any way not even a browser and my windows friends have no issues i have no idea what the problem is. Its not my firewall i already tried turning it off completely just to scrub any chance of it being the cause.
Anyone know what the hell is going on?

TL;DR: Shooters have notoriously had a difficult time staying alive while under Nexon's banner.
Go ahead and spam your downvotes, but if you're someone that actually likes to engage in conversation, I urge you to read on.

Intro -- Personal

For starters, The Finals is my favorite FPS game to come out in the last 5 years. I've played since the second CBT and have loved just about every second of it. Prior to my time with The Finals, I was an Apex Legends nerd since release. The pro match hacking incident in Apex Legends is what pushed me over the edge; an edge that I was already barely hanging onto after 3+ years of awful decision-making, balancing, bugs, and tone-deaf MTX offerings. And going even further back 13-ish years (my time with League of Legends), I played Combat Arms for about 4 years and ran a very successful Guild.
Keep Combat Arms in mind for a little later.

The Final(s) Nail In The Coffin

HYENAS
At the time of the first The Finals trailer, HYENAS had been running in closed testing for about 8 months and was luke warm, to say the least. I actually find it very eerie how similar the HYENAS and The Finals were in terms of theming: heisters/contestants fighting for cash in arenas and needing to 'Cash Out'. HYENAS was a game I had on my radar for a bit and was semi-excited to tell my friends about because Apex Legends was in a really rough position and was growing stale in it's growth - we were looking for something else. It had some interesting movement mechanics, which myself and my friends were enamored by in Apex Legends, but nothing too crazy. I was hopeful. After about 2 testing runs, I phased out of HYENAS pretty hard and lost interest as it wasn't really what we were hoping it would be.
Breaking Convention
Fast forward to that 8-month mark, and the trailer for The Finals launches. It's this over-the-top explosive FPS with some crazy arena gimmicks, and holy shit it was pretty. The destruction was incredible, and the developers were touting server-side destruction so that it would be consistent for all players. The gameplay and graphics looked so familiar, and as it turned out, it was made by a bunch of ex-DICE devs. Count me in. Oh, and these were the same cats that released that short but impressive looking trailer for their other game Arc Raiders? Exceptionally promising pedigree, and an already promising duo of upcoming projects to boot. Couldn't be more excited. However... to this day, I don't know if I was getting struck by the Mandella Effect, but I swear I didn't see Nexon's publisher tag in the first few trailers. In any case, by the end of my first beta test, I was well aware and to say I was concerned would be an understatement.
The Good
Embark have done a phenomenal job at creating something unique in a market of Battle Royales and old titans slapping each other with wet noodles on bi-annual cycles. The Finals is insanely unique. Whereas a lot of games that try to break conventions like this tend to have iterations across many years and multiple development studios up to an eventual peak, the formula of The Finals feels like the final iteration of a genre that has never existed. Performance is top notch, the game does what it needs to do graphically and still has additional bells and whistles, and it had a near flawless release (all things considered). Were you to ask me, I could not imagine another game like The Finals existing in it's current exceptionally polished state. The next game like The Finals, whenever it comes out, will likely be exceptionally different. However...
The Bad
Lightning eventually breaks out of the bottle and disappears forever. The Finals, in all of its game design competency, has major issues for lasting in a market like today's and thankfully, for once, it's not actually due to it's MTX implementation and a greedy publisher (I say that cautiously, more on that later). No - the issue that The Finals has and why it's on a trajectory for shuttering is that it has almost zero skill expression. Let me explain.
Were The Finals released 12-ish years ago, it'd be a behemoth of an IP by now and likely would have changed the trajectory of the market in terms of player and audience capture. What do I mean by that? Well, lets look at games 10+ years ago - specifically FPS'. What was the primary appeal and objective? The appeal was an easy to pick-up game which allowed you to get into the action almost immediately. The objective? Click heads faster than your opposition. Game design around that time was rather linear in how it delivered the objective mechanism to the player. Give player gun, player click button; happy player. Competitive games have all existed, but competition now is vastly different.
Today, skill expression is the name of the game. It's not enough to click heads the fastest - that's not how you get your high anymore.
For DayZ, it was a masterful bait and deception. For PUBG, it was about maneuvering long before your opponent did and mastering weapon control. For Fortnite, it was about 'cranking 90s' and building the most optimal structure AROUND your opponent. For Overwatch, it was about chaining a series of abilities together into a combo that 6 players couldn't predict. For Apex Legends, it's about mastering movement in such a way that your opponent gets whiplash. Hell, even in Counterstrike - a game about holding angles - it's about mastering grenade throws.
The Finals... does none of that. You're not baiting anyone around fixed objectives. You're not out maneuvering when spawns are fixed. While structures exist around you, they serve more as an element of chaos than necessarily for control. There's no abilities to string together in some wombo-combo. Grenades are static and don't have a lot of physical attributes to facilitate against the environment like physics. And lastly, and this one hurts me the most because I was absolutely a sweaty try-hard in Apex Legends that spent hours in the shooting range practicing; while there is speed and movement in the game, you're not breaking the game's engineering to manipulate your movement in unintended ways - ways that become SO common... that the developer themselves puts those exploits in future season trailers for the game making them canon mechanics.
In other words, the skill ceiling is about as high as the desk players sit at to play the game. If you can move a mouse or a controller and click buttons, you're in. You just need to get familiar with the maps and weapons and... that's about it. :/
The Ugly
Don't believe me? Lets get numerical. Go look at Twitch stats for The Finals. Now, Twitch isn't an arbiter of truth in terms of a game's performance metrics, but it shows what players are watching. I'll save you the click: The Finals (at the time of writing) is the 215th most watched game. It's a whole 20 rows down on the front page. Now, players love watching high-skill play, but this also shows that even casual viewers still prefer casual games over The Finals. There is no external appeal. As much as I love this game, I'm not above a good joke, so I just wanted to highlight the irony of The Finals being a gameshow... and not being very popular as a show. Lol.
With all of the above said, the game is still in a relatively good position at this moment. Despite having very low player counts (no, I'm not the kind of person to spell doom for a game just because it's player count is dropping - it's on a normal interest decline curve), it requiring a low amount of players to start a game at all is a good thing. Unlike a BR or even a normal TDM-like game, you need a minimum of 9 players to start a round. A 9-player minimum goes a long way in expanding the ability to find a game with only 15,000-ish players. It puts it right in the comfy zone of co-op games like DRG or Vermintide. However, competitive games requiring a stalwart player count to be viable unlike co-op, so that's a bit of a problem right now.
So with that being said, it can always improve right? Something can change to bring back players and bolster it's numbers again, right? Well... um...

Nexon -- The Gravedigger

Nexon & Me -- We Don't Talk About It
My relationship with Nexon is long and... tenuous, at best. To me, Nexon is that family member that only ever comes to larger family get-togethers likes weddings or baby showers. They tend to give out some of the highest ticket gift cards but once the party is over, everyone finds that the giftcards are empty or deactivated. Nexon, over the years since it's arrival in the West in 2005-ish, has been flakey at best, and absent at worst. I'm envious of those who don't have a relationship with Nexon like I do because Nexon has truly been that family figure in my life of gaming since Maplestory - I have been apart of just about every major release pre-2016. I'm 31 now - that's over half of my life. Spoilers: It's not all been good. I'm happy to say that I've been able to communicate with a small handful of you over the last 18 months who have shared my same concerns and have the same history with them that I do.
I played Maplestory religiously. I played Mabinogi diligently. I played Kart Riders confusingly. I played Sudden Attack curiously. I played Combat Arms consistently. I played Vindictus excitedly. All of the previous, and a few more, intermixed with other games not made by Nexon - aside from Runescape, Nexon has been with me just as long, if not longer (depending on how you look at it). I know how Nexon is. I know how Nexon works. I know how Nexon behaves. With that said, it doesn't bring me any joy to pop the virgin cherry for some of you who don't know much about them.
Nexon Doing Nexon Things
I'll only be mentioning relevant titles here to paint the picture that needs to be seen.

With all of the above information about Nexon's history, its fair to surmise that Nexon has a turbulent cycle serving as a publisher for games. This does not bode well for Embark.
I'd like everyone to remember that the people we engage with on a daily basis in the Discord are passionate Embark folk. This critique of Nexon has no bearing on Embark, however it's important to remember that they'll likely be affected, and it's a shame. Even in the best case scenario that The Finals doesn't shut down, but just maintains a low player-count, it will not serve well under Embark. Unfortunately it will affect Embark's pedigree more than it would ever affect Nexon as Nexon has the same priveledge and power of the likes of EA.
I'll be honest, when I first found out Nexon is the primary publishing house behind Embark, Nexon's history of shuttering games wasn't the first thing I thought of. The first thing I actually thought of was it's history of MTX in it's game. We all joke about horse armor and FIFA packs, but Maplestory led the charge of overbearing MTX in the West. Given today's game market, I was admittedly expecting a lot worse in terms of monetization for The Finals. I'm happy to report that I'm pleasantly surprised with it's current state. I still wouldn't say it's TRUE 'micro' like Helldiver's, but it's way better than a lot of other offerings, especially for me personally coming from a game like Apex Legends.
However, Nexon's influence still can't be ignored. You see, with a history like Nexon's you probably expect what we've all witnessed in the market over the last decade, but Nexon doesn't operate that way. They have a penchant of being rather silent during most, if not all controversies. Hell, just in general - controversies aside. Unlike bodies that we're familiar with like EA, Take-Two, Ubisoft and the like, Nexon doesn't speak outside of their games often, if ever. If you were at a public execution, all of the companies we're familiar with would likely be the Officiant at the pulpit. But Nexon? They're the executioner - completely silent and performing a duty without remorse. This is always how they've acted.

Closing Thoughts

I know I said above that the MTX concerns for The Finals kind of faded away for me as it doesn't seem to be an issue we'll have to worry about, and while it's not the main point of this post, I still find it necessary for players to keep in the back of their head, especially since Embark have other games coming out. Were The Finals not to shutter due to low player count, this is my PSA to all players moving forward, whether it be about The Finals or beyond: Nexon cannot be trusted.
"Well, duh! You can't trust companies anyway, nor should you. It's a company. It's incentive is profit."
To that I say, "That's not my point".
In today's market, we're typically used to a controversy happening in the game on top of whatever PR blunders is going on with the organization, but that's not what would really happen here. The Finals doesn't have any issues beyond it's declining player count, but I want everyone to remain aware of Nexon's moves going forward. Just because we don't necessarily see the smoke here doesn't mean that there isn't a fire somewhere else.
So, for your own interest if you'd like to research on your own, here are some topics of concern:
  1. Variety of game closures and sunsets under contentious situations with developers and publishing partners alike.
  2. Account security breaches (I guess a more relevant tangent would be GameGuard. Nexon was the first to widely use GameGuard when Maplestory came to the West. I personally don't care, but I know some others would.)
  3. Various cases of government scrutiny world-wide due to addictive Gachapon implementations.

A Comparison of Material Living Standards Between the U.S. and other Developed Countries
I've been really interested in the debate as to whether or not having such a uniquely powerful economy actually makes Americans better off than other developed countries with stronger social safety nets. I'll delve into three topics: income, material well-being, and inequality.
When it comes to income, few would argue with the evidence that Americans enjoy an income premium compared to the rest. OECD data shows that U.S. median household incomes, adjusted for purchasing power parity (PPP), are the second-highest in the world, trailing only Luxembourg, a country smaller than Washington D.C in population. Most other developed countries trail U.S. median household income by about $10k-$15k.
OECD average wage data also shows that average wages in the U.S. only trail Luxembourg and Iceland and are quite a bit higher than the rest (Canada and Germany, for instance, trail the U.S. by almost $18,000). I did find one OECD calculation that claimed U.S. average wages are actually not higher, but I explained why I view that data and its methodology as inaccurate here.
This is particularly evident among higher-educated workers. A case study would be the comparison between the U.S. and the U.K.: college grads in the U.S. far out-earn their British counterparts, despite U.S. college grads having actually less debt on average than English grads (although the way student loan payments are structured and capped in the U.K. make this comparison a bit more nuanced).
Of course, one counterpoint that people often bring up is healthcare, and whether that closes the gap. However, consumer expenditure data shows that Americans, on average, only spend about 3% more of their income on healthcare than our Canadian neighbors with single-payer healthcare, which doesn't come close to eliminating the American income advantage (and that's assuming that none of that extra healthcare spending comes from additional volume of healthcare consumed).
But what about other social services? What about the social democracies that offer free college and childcare on top of healthcare? Well, one way to account for this is through measuring actual individual consumption), which measures real, PPP-adjusted individual consumption of goods and services, whether that's through the private market or through public services. The World Bank cites consumption as the "preferred" method of measuring material living standards.
The OECD has public data on this every 3 years up to 2017 through its PPP benchmark results. The U.S. led the world in actual individual consumption per capita in 2017, 2014, 2011, and 2008 (look for the real expenditure per capita or per head data table in the link). Only in 2005 did it come in second to Luxembourg. Inequality may impact the per capita metrics, but even if we just look at the bottom 20% of Americans, they have roughly equal or higher rates of average consumption than the average (not bottom 20%, but average) European, Canadian, or Australian. I'll note that when I dug deeper, it seems like the comparison between the bottom 20% of Americans and the average developed country resident seems to compare average private consumption, so a poor American is probably slightly behind the average European or Canadian if government services are accounted for instead of slightly ahead, but the analysis should still put away notions that inequality is the reason why American material consumption is the highest in the world.
The last metric, inequality, paints American living standards in a worse light. I probably don't need to point to data for you to know that American income inequality is much higher than those for Western/Northern Europe, Canada, or Australia and New Zealand. The material consequence of this is that Americans have a higher rate of episodes of material deprivation than other developed countries, shown in this OECD graph here:

This means that Americans are more likely to experience an episode of things like missed bills, moderate food insecurity (although not severe food insecurity), or general financial struggles than Europeans, for instance.
Overall, the data seems to show that Americans have arguably the highest material living standards in the world. Americans have higher incomes and higher material consumption than other developed countries. However, the weaker American social safety net that likely plays a role in its higher rates of inequality means that Americans will face more variation in their material and financial conditions than residents of other developed nations, even if on average Americans are better off. On the topic of variability, there's data that shows that the majority of Americans will experience being in both the top 10% of the income distribution and being near or in poverty in their lifetimes. Americans in general will see much higher highs and lower lows than other developed countries' citizens.

2024.06.02 00:42 Pokemon_bill Is the problem my MB or the GPU

I have the 4070 TiS installed on a Z790 PG Sonic MB.
When I installed the 4070 in the primary PCIe lane (gen 5 x16) the PC would crash on login to Windows every time. It would boot to the login screen and could sit there indefinitely with no problems but as soon as I login it black screen restarted.
After pulling my hair out from trying to figure out what was wrong I eventually moved the GPU to the secondary PCIe slot 4 x16.
When I did that the PC became stable. I settled for that miracle and have been using it like that for about 2 months give or take.
Now I'm trying to run unreal engine 5 and every time I open it I get a crash report stating "GPU Crashed or D3D Device Removed. Check Log for GPU state information. A GPU mini dump was be saved in the Logs folder."
Yes it says "was be saved" which, while funny I'm getting tired of seeing. On the bright side while I don't know much about this personally I was able to find the log or in this case logs folder and found several files.
What they are talking about seems to be my system specs and what failed. It looks like VtuneApi.dll and it's 32 bit counterpart. It says they don't exist.
I'll be adding the log file to this post when I switch to PC.
This isn't the only thing the system has been failing to run and it's not the only problem I've noticed.
I also see what I would describe as artifacting in the display. For a few seconds when things open or are closed I'll see pixels not being rendered and in some cases they jump around so it'll look like speckles being randomly placed on the screen for a moment.
When I received my 4070 and tried to install it originally I believed it to be defective so I returned the first one.
I don't know the odds of getting two defective in a row but honestly I suspect the MB just as much as the GPU at this point.

2024 NBA Draft Combine

At the combine, Zach Edey posted an impressive lane agility time of 11.19 sec. Projected #1 pick Alex Sarr's time: 11.43 sec. Projected lottery pick Cody Williams had an 11.17 sec. time. Donovan Clingan was one of the slowest in the draft at 12.06, nearly a second slower than Edey.
Edey's 3.01 sec. shuttle run time was faster than Bronny James' 3.02 and Reed Sheppard's 3.03, and they're two of the most athletic guards in the draft. Alex Sarr's time? 3.23 sec. Clingan? 3.38 sec.
On the 3/4-court sprint (75 feet), Edey's time of 3.42 seconds compares well with times posted by current NBA starting centers such as Steven Adams (3.40 sec.) and Rudy Gobert (3.57 sec.).

Defense Analysis

We already know the concern about Edey's perimter defense, and you can see that he posted the lowest defensive win shares among players with at least 9.9 win shares. The primary concern as to whether Edey can be a starter in the NBA been centered around Edey's ability to handle switching onto smaller players on the perimeter. Edey stayed an extra year at Purdue to work on his weight, lateral agility, and footwork in an effort to address this concern, which was raised following Edey testing the draft waters in the summer of 2023.
Here is a recent video showing examples of the progress Edey made this season on switches. He will never be Kawhi Leonard at the perimeter, but the consensus among many anaylists has shown a level of improvement in a short amount of time that alleviates enough of this concern that he is projected by many now as a late lottery pick or just outside the lottery. (The lastest ESPN mock draft has Edey going #15 to the Heat.)
Of course, aside from this one concern, Edey is considered a strong defender and rim protector. While it's unlikely he will surpass Victor Wembanyama in DPOY votes anytime soon, his college stats are skewed a bit due to generally trying to avoid fouls during the first half of games, opting out of moving contests and reaches. In the league, Edey will be more free to go after any and all attempts near the rim.

Offense Analysis

Edey's ability to score and get to the line has been rather unprecendented in recent history:
Being able to get the other team into foul trouble while being a reliable free-throw shooter is a unique art that has defensive benefits and timeless value at the NBA level. Removing one of the other team's best players from the floor while also scoring points is not exactly a stat whose impact is easily tracked, but we all know how big a factor it can be in the NBA Finals (as any Portland fan who watched Sabonis foul out in the 2000 conference finals can attest!).
If you look at a list of the NBA's all-time leaders in free throw attempts per season, it is a who's who of the Hall of Fame. Wilt Chamberlain dominates the top 10 slots followed by Jerry West, Shaq, Jordan, Barkely, Malone, Robinson, Dwight, etc. Almost everyone non-HoF player on that list is either an active player destined to be in the HoF one day (Durant, Giannis, LeBron, Harden, Embiid, Westbrook) or they're Ron Artest. Yet while in the NCAA, most of those guys never came close to Edey's free throw attempt numbers.
While we keep hearing how it's harder now for NBA centers to get to the line, it seems like it's not any harder than it used to be. Now it's just easier for perimeter shooters to get to the line than in Jordan's era.
Still though, we have seen plenty of success from scoring bigs in getting to the FT line over the last 10 years: Joel Embid, DeMarcus Cousins, and Dwight Howard each have posted dominant seasons in this regard (perhaps in Dwight's case due partly to hack-a-Dwight, but I digress). Again, none of those guys posted FTA figures anywhere close to Edey during their NCAA years.
Another concern about Edey has been his perimeter and mid-range shooting. Edey has emphasized to the media that while it was not part of Purdue's offense, it has been something he works on diligently, and is ready to show off to NBA teams. At the combine, he did impress scouts with his shooting, but it remains to be seen how effective he could be in actual game situations. If his free-throw shooting is any indication, he has solid mechanics, and the former baseball pitcher could develop into a Brook Lopez trajectory if he is able to become efficient enough. When Jokic came into the league, he only shot 30.7% from 3 initially, but we have seen how his progression went.

Comparison to Clingan

In the 2024 National Championship game between Purdue and UConn, UConn's Donovan Clingan (Edey's primary rival in the draft), a 7' 2" center who averages 7.4 boards, was held to 5 rebounds by Edey in that game, while Edey went off for 37 pts., 10 rebs., and 2 blocks. (Purdue lost by 15, but I think it was mainly due to the rest of UConn's players dominating the glass, due to not being blocked out.)
UConn's own head coach said of Edey that if he is not a lottery pick with a tremendous NBA career, then "there's somethin' wrong with the NBA," while comparing Zach to Patrick Ewing and David Robinson. Source.
Clingan also missed time his senior year due to tendon injuries in his foot. Meanwhile Edey played the most minutes of anyone in the NCAA tournament at what appeared to be 100% health. In my personal opinion (and this is not at all scientific), Edey displays a symmetrical, well-proportioned look that reminds me more of Tim Duncan than of most 7' 4" guys like Boban or similar, which is a good indication for longevity. Asymetrical people like Greg Oden have experienced very short careers.
One argument I've heard in favor of Clingan has been that he "processes the game faster" than Edey. I have seen no evidence for this is, but Edey being relatively new to basketball (came over from hockey and baseball) could mean that his reaction times and perception of the game might be a handicap at the next level compared to someone who has been playing since a younger age.

Misperceptions

When we look at players with similar college seasons and accolades to Zach Edey, it is common for some reason for folks to lump Zach in with the likes of Luka Garza and Tyler Hansbrough: dominant centers in college who simply lacked the size, athleticism, and outside shooting to have much of a role in the NBA.
Of course, that is kind of a ridiculous comparison, since we don't know what Luka Garza's NBA career would look like, if he had been able to do similar things in college but was 7' 4" with a 7' 11" wingspan. Further, Garza did not put up numbers remotely similar to what Edey posted in the NCAA.
Similarly, when we look at players with similar size to Edey (and there are very few), most of them are just too slow and uncoordinated to ever get more than a few minutes per game, even if they can shoot (Bol Bol, Boban, etc.). So there's a misperception that Edey must be slow simply due to his size being similar to those types of players. Yet if Edey was really that slow, why were his combine times so good?
I suspect a lot of the opinions on Edey are misinformed due to being based on footage from his freshman or sophomore years and not indicative of who he has developed into, but feel free to leave comments with links to videos that you think provide evidence for Edey still being too slow for the league.

Bottom Line for the Blazers Draft Picks regarding Edey

The Blazers will forever have Sam Bowie/Greg Oden syndrome. Yet if we're objective about it, it should be clear that wasting a #2 pick on fit rather than "best player available" is always a bad call. Further, had Greg Oden remained healthy, few people doubt he could have led Portland on some deep runs.
Now, my argument has always been that Kevin Durant's display of overall basketball skill and shooting ability should have made him the #1 pick in that draft, or almost any draft. No offense to Oden. And further, when the Blazers checked Oden's medical history and discovered he'd had an early surgery to shorten one of his legs, this ought to have been enough of a red flag to make them not burn a #1 pick on him.
In this draft however, we're not talking about whether Zach Edey should go #1 overall. It's more of a question of whether he will be the best player available at the Blazers' draft positions of #7 and #14, or even just, the best center available.
ESPN sees Edey going #15 to Miami, so it's hard not to see that if the Blazers passed on Clingan but still wanted a center, then taking Edey at #14 would be a no-brainer.
So the real question is, could Edey go higher than #14? The top two projections I've heard for Edey in the lottery are OKC at #12 and San Antonio at #8. These teams could feel that Chet Holmgren and Victor Wembanyama might need a backup where you don't sacrifice any length or paint offense, so they can run a more consistent system.
I don't know whether that's realistic to happen, but if it starts to look that way, then is there a universe where it makes sense for the Blazers to take Edey at #7? Most people say "no."
But when you consider the all-time history of 7' 1" or taller players who could score like Zach in college, then the question is really, "Would Wilt, Kareem, or even Yao be a top-7 pick in the draft this year?" What did those guys show in their pre-NBA careers that Edey hasn't shown, which would have justified it?

Whenever I get bumped or hit the ball to hard its like a 50% chance that my input delay becomes insanely bad and it is way worse in the air. Air dribbling is a nightmare my flip resets leave my car stuck to the ball or the car starts spazzing out. Assuming it is server desync or in my logs but I have tried everything else you could think of (bought new everything, new wifi, controllers, wires, headset,, mouse. for christ sake a new mouse pad and I play controller. It has been a good 3 months now with no solution I don't want I have to quit the game because god it is so satisfying and playing with music makes my heart whole but I see no option. I am top 3% in cod SnD and love the game but can't stand hackers anymore and how op controller aim assist is (I am MnK) but have tried controller and input is perfectly fine on every other game. My also attempt is logs and event viewer cuz I cannot read these things at all. Could it be the games net code? It does it in freeplay as well with my wifi connection disable. Losing my minddd here.

Hello Everyone!
For anyone who is new to my posts here, I am building a romhack of PSO Episode 1&2 for the GameCube. Here is the original post:

I am hard at work on the final details of this fan romhack, "Return To Ragol."
Today I will be going over additional item combinations to keep the game fluid and fast paced.
One major boon to this romhack is that all previously useless rare weapons are now worthwhile, in that they all have similar or identical stats to their category counterpart (i.e.: DB's Saber, Durandal, Kaladbolg all have the same stats and Berserk special and hit 2 targets). This change allows players to use weapons they like the look of while still performing as well as they can for their rarity.
One of my biggest issues while playing through this romhack, is having to go back to earlier difficulties to get the rares I enjoy using aesthetically. There's also a significant usefulness to the early set bonuses of DB's, Flowen's, and Custom Ray. Having to play in Hard or Very Hard while you are decked out in powerful Ult gear feels a bit underwhelming while farming.
And that's exactly where today's update comes from!
Have you ever felt disappointed that the common weapon you found is a saber with 80% Hit but the special is totally useless?
I have included a LOT of item combination updates to allow players to turn a random top tier common weapon into one a rare weapon so it will never feel bad again to get a bad special on a high stat common!
You will now want to not only pick up these combinable items, but you will want to check out the RTR Database (Google Sheets page I'm building) to see what these items will turn into with the right Yellow-tier weapon (red-tier for FO weapons). These updates include new combinations for: Magic Water, Magic Rock \"Moola,\" Star Amplifier, and Photon Booster.
\"Use\" Photon Booster
Congratulations! You now have a stellar EXP stealing, 7-target slicer! Now to grind this bad boy all the way to it's cap of +150!
And you might say, \"But GMK! I found a high hit common weapon, but it's not a final/yellow-tier weapon! :(((\" Not to worry! If you are using downloaded quests (from me or from Matt's server), you can select the Ep.2 quest \"The Lab.\" The Lab has a ton of great QOL features, but the one I'm talking about is the photon color update!
Talk to the RAcast in the corner of the shop in the quest and for a measly 1 Photon Drop, he will let you pick a brand new color for your weapon of choice!
Gladius, Incoming!
Now that I have the right weapon, it's time to max out it's grind so we can use our combination item!
\"Use\" Star Amplifier on a fully ground Gladius
And there it is! My DB's Saber (Replica) with 60% Hit! This weapon gets +20% Simple Tech boost, berserk special, and hits 2 targets! This is a great option for any class, especially FOnewearls who want to be a battle mage.
Now, onto the Database updates!
I have been putting together the last few pages of this monstrous spreadsheet and I am so excited to see it coming to an end very soon.
Here are some teaser images of the new "Combinations" tab!
The top of each section will show you how to obtain the item in question. Magic Water is essentially the \"Entry Level\" of combination items. If you didn't have much luck finding any of these items in hard mode, then by the time you hit 40 and start VH mode, if you have a single Magic Water and a decent common weapon, get crafting! Reminder: all of these common HU/RA weapons now have Berserk special and melee hit more targets than vanilla PSO! The tech damage on the FO weapons are also considerably higher now!
MR \"Moola\" is such an easy find in VH, as farming Caves is going to be something most people will want to do! I personally love the look of Slicer of Assassin and am excited to find a nice high hit slicer to fuse MR \"Moola\" with.
Star Amp is going to be a bit harder to find, as it hides behind a VH Nar Lily in Ep.1. All set bonus weapons can be crafted with this, as well as a free Vjaya with the stats of your common Gungnir! You'll also note that items that previously used a Star Amp are now altered slightly. It now takes AGNI, DAGON, and INDRA to craft Twinkle Star, as opposed to a common Wand. This allows users to craft a Storm Wand:Indra as well.
I had a lot of fun putting together creative ideas for what to make with a Photon Booster! Flower Bouquet hits 10 targets (like Great Bouquet in BB) but now has Charge and a grind of +99 (base ATP/ATA of 1). It normally only drops as a 0% Easter Egg, so this is your chance to get high ATA boosts on this thing! Additionally, Flight Fan, Red Mechgun, and MKB all have unreduced King's and are absolute staples to your EXP stealing career!
Sange and Yasha (separate) are now all class equips and can be fused and used by all classes as well! Guld and Milla are now equippable by all RAs, so no more silly \"needing a Male or Female specifically to fuse my unnecessarily rare guns!\"
For PGF, it only takes a level 80 character to use the combination items, however, you better have high stats in order to get this fusion going!
All tech boosting barriers have had their requirements removed! If you found a red barrier and an Amplifier of Red, you can have a red merge right at level 1!
ELENOR mag is now obtainable legitimately (well, you know, within a romhack...)! Fuse her famous Red Scorpio with any non-rare 3rd evolution mag to get this mag with PBs and everything!
ELENOR prep...\"Use\" Red Scorpio...
And there she is! An All-Class ELENOR mag in GameCube PSO.

Hello folks, I think some of the reddit folks remember my post from a few months ago which was a list of all the currently active RS3 YouTube Content Creators (which has already changed since some people have become active again), if you haven't here is the link. I had previously posted a similar spotlight post of some of the best RS3 videos for the Month of March and April an wanted to keep it to a monthly theme and have created this May centered post.
These are my opinions but I will provide the title of the video, the name of the creator, a summary of the video and the link of said video.
These videos will be listed based on the alphabetical order of the titles and is not a ranking guide since some of these videos are basically raw and unpolished. Please note a majority of these creators do not make RS3 Content as a profession and they post these videos as a passion project for the game we all enjoy and play, RuneScape 3. If you haven't heard of Pup, you've been living under a rock for the last few years in RuneScape. Known as one of the best PvM'ers, a notorious Clue Chaser, recently Animation Expert and a multitude of other titles that he has probably had over the years he's played the game, has done something that has long been attempted but not achieved. He has reached sub one minute for the Raksha boss solo. The reason why this is so impressive is that most people consider this as the hardest boss to solo in RuneScape 3 to date and that sub one minute would take another few years with the additional power creep that naturally happens. I recommend watching the video to see all the perfect dodges, ability usages and timing of rotations to see this impressive feet be completed.

In this video, he showcases a new speed running method that makes it possible to do exactly what he explains in the title. Normally a very stressful achievement but this new tech that he cooks up is an amazing shortcut that really makes the achievement a lot more reasonable. Make sure you do this quickly before the method gets patched!

However, if you've seen any OSRS content, you've seen this type of content for a long time which is Custom AvataLocation placement that they use in their Thumbnails. In this excellent tutorial video, he showcases the viewers on how to import your avatar into a 3d modeling program along with a location you have in mind. Using that information, he then showcases the initial process on how to play with some of the cool features to get some awesome looking imagery/poses.

2024.06.01 10:30 jordanisplaying [PC/Browser?] [2007-2011] Possibly Licensed RPG From Kabillion

My memory on the game is very vague outside of it likely being tied to a show that was airing on Kabillion during this time period. My apologies for the lack of details!
Platform(s): PC, Not sure if it was able to be played in browser or if it was a downloadable. It was likely only playable for free from Kabillion regardless and not a standalone PC title you could go out and buy.
Genre: RPG or action rpg, third person maybe a top down style? I don't remember if it was 2d or 3d but if it was 3d in the way Pokemon Soul Silver is.
Estimated year of release: Likely between 2007-2011
Graphics/art style: Brightly colored, I remember maybe slimes you could kill? Set in an overworld with grass, was not dark at all.
Notable characters: A guy with brown hair maybe? Almost looked like he could have been a Digimon protagonist or something.
Notable gameplay mechanics: Maybe you were able to kill things and pick up their loot?
Other details: Kabillion was a channel and on-demand streaming service that played children's animated content. While the service still exists, the website with its games in the state it operated during the late 2000s and early 2010s does not. There is a post here in lostmedia describing an MMO of sorts that was also on the site around that same time period.

2024.06.01 06:09 Myriai Dawn Broke over Icewind Dale (Finally! AMA if you'd like)

With a clang of a Cast Iron Frying Pan +1 the 3rd form of Auril shattered and the goddess banished until Midwinter and for the first time in almost 3 years the sun rose over Ice Wind Dale)
(I need to purple prose this into Google Docs for the Fam since it was 3 AM when we finished and I just wanted to go to sleep--but that's neither nor there)
The Family D&D RotFM Campaign ended last Sunday (5/25) and the Unnamed Group (they never came up with a name for themselves) defeated Auril with a resounding crash. We started in roughly July 2020--our meetings were somewhat sporadic due to a lot of things (schedules, pandemics, deaths in the family, kids in school, jobs, etc.) so I can't give a true estimate of how many sessions it took, but probably averaged out to roughly 50ish? Our sessions were usually long about 8 hours--but play time averaged between 4 & 6 hours depending on attention spans (my niece and nephew were about 14 and 15 when we started). We started at level 1 and I kinda fast tracked them to 10 by the end of the game.
A few notes:
\ This was the very first campaign I DM'd beginning to end*
\ We only played through Chapter Five (Ended in Grimskalle--the ending chapters didn't really fit in to what I was envisioning so I'll probably use them elsewhere in another campaign)*
\ I changed (and homebrewed) A LOT*
\ There was actually a lot more I wanted to touch on and do, but we ran out of time with my nephew graduating high school and going to boot camp a month and a day later and I didn't want to leave it hanging.*
\ I did run it loosely survival, but I didn't run it as survival horror for various reasons*
\ I run with milestones because I don't like math ^^;*
There was probably more than a few trips and falls along the way and I didn't learn to fall forward until about halfway through, but everyone seemed to enjoy it in the end.
We started the campaign at level 1 and used the Ice Road Trackers to start the campaign off, which put them at level 3 when they finally reached Bryn Shander to start the book part of the campaign (Orianna joined the campaign about a year or so in) and introduced them to Mother Tusk and her Awakened brood.
Party Make-Up:
Karadon//High Elf Psi Warrior Fighter (Harper Contact Secret)
Al//High Elf Assassination Rogue/Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer (the multiclass was for character flavor) (Wanted in Neverwinter, Waterdeep, & Luskan for various crimes and hated by crime syndicates--she also spent the majority of the game with Auril whispering in her ear to join her due to taking Auril's Dagger from Sephek--I upped the DC on the saving throw every time she used Lucky to change her roll or after 3 in game days--it started at 5 and ended at 15)
Kiri//Half-(Dark) Elf Monster Slayer Ranger (Reghed Heir Secret)
Sh'Meral//Tabaxi Circle of Wildfire Druid (Owlbear Whisperer)
Uthal//Goliath Path of the Zealot Warrior (Midwinter's Child--since he was already cold resistant, he became immune to natural cold and resistant to cold magic, but it came with a DC 20 CHA check to avoid being turned against his friends anytime they ran across followers of Auril--I did nerf him under their control so that he could only do normal damage and not use all of his abilities because that boy brought the pain train at full power and could've TPK'd the Party)
Orianna//Tiefling Gunslinger Fighter (Eventually wound up as a Midwinter's Child as well due to some very badly (or well) placed Nat 1s)
The characters rolled their stats (4d6, drop the lowest, reroll 1s) and some of them (+cough+Uthal+cough+) got ridiculous scores so it was fun to work around it and allowed me to figure out a lot of different ways to try and challenge the party.
The group was pretty new to D&D, except Sh'Meral who is a player in a campaign I'm in as a player and Orianna, who played 3.5 fairly extensively. My mom played AD&D with my dad and their neighbors at the base in the early 80s, but it was different enough and long enough ago she gets lumped in with the newbies. I had started and aborted a Ghosts of Saltmarsh campaign with them, but that didn't actually get very far hence I say this is the first campaign I did start to finish and I still classify them as new.
Because it's been a long time and my note-taking wasn't good at the beginning (hence some of the stumbling), I don't remember every nuance of what we did, but I remember chunks of it.
I actually used both starting quests (The Chwinga who ended up being named Chime and rode Kiri's shoulder the entire game and Sephek) though I dragged the Sephek quest out a bit per an adventure I downloaded from DM's Guild from Bob the Builder and they got a taste of the Coldlight Walkers early with the red-coated sled driver who died from an ice knife to the heart that later attacked their camp as a red-coated Coldlight Walker.
Chapter One: Ten-Towns
They actually wound up hitting a large chunk of the quests in the first chapter, but they were strewn through the campaign and more than one had to be changed up to compensate for party levels.

We actually didn't do a lot in this chapter--I'd added a lot of extra stuff and as I said we ran out of time (I wanted to do Dark Duchess and Cave of the Berserkers, but it didn't happen)

Chapter Three and Four: Sunblight and Destruction's Light
Due to various shenanigans (the party not picking up the Duergar crumbs and the sudden time crunch), we actually didn't really do these chapters at all except I did unleash the Chardalyn Dragon (as a reskinned Deep Dragon because they were like Level 7 or so at this point).
I did not, however, unleash the dragon as written because that would be enough to make me rage quit as a player and my players would've done the same if I did it that way--Dougan's Hole was a casualty but they caught it on the way to Good Mead, plus if I hadn't done it this way it would've been a waste of the model I bought two years or so ago and that would've been awful since we never made it to Sunblight.
I did loosely imply that Auril's Frost Druids running around Ice Wind Dale were in cahoots with the Duergar--they gave them chardalyn in exchange for gems needed for Awaken spells.
Chapter Five: Auril's Abode
Ran this sort of as written except I had a few things (characters) come back to haunt them on their way to Grimskalle
* Ravisin caught them on the way from the dock (they didn't kill her before she escaped in the barrow) with some of Auril's ice sculptures so the characters roused some divine wrath by hitting some of Auril's beloved sculptures
* A resurrected Vursin (Ravisin's sister--my spelling is probably crap on the names) and Sephek (Revenant Version) with some Coldlight Walker pals
* They ran across a mind-controlled Mother Tusk that they either had to kill or find a way to free (they found a way to free her)
* The party almost failed the Test of Cruelty (but managed not to)--I had a couple of them in tears. Only one of them managed to pass all 4 trials to open the door to the Vault (which served a different purpose detailed in my changes below)
Things I Changed (Added In)
* Part of Auril's spell was held down by 4 druid circles (one was near the barrow in Lonelywood, one to the east of Easthaven, one to the west a bit beyond Bremen, and the last was in the Stones of Thruun south of Dougan's Hole) as the party defeated the circles they got to add 2 hours of dim light to their days until after the fourth when Auril doubled down on her spell when they killed her beloved Archdruid Priestess Geluvicken
* They faced Maude in Toil and Trouble and Maude used underhanded tactics to escape, but then they faced Maude and her Coven in the Frost Giant Hunting Lodge (from Holed Up--as I said I altered it almost beyond recognition)
* I moved the Codicil of White to Jarlmoot and the party had the option of using that in the vault under Grimskalle to seal Auril off plane for 100 years--but at the cost of making a Con 21 saving throw and the one person that probably could've done that with no issue (Uthal) couldn't read (due to his player's role-playing all game) so they wound up choosing to not sacrifice one of their friends (an NPC College of Swords Bard I originally created as a random encounter that won their hearts and became a beloved friend I had to flesh out) and just make sure to kill Iskra and try and defeat Auril to at least hamper her plans.
The final battle with Auril wound up stretching into two sessions between when they left Jarlmoot and confronted Auril on the battlements of Grimskalle--each of those sessions were long (10-8 one day and 2 PM-almost 3 AM for the last--obviously breaks for food and player leg stretching).
I managed to not kill any players--but a few of them were knocked unconscious at multiple times but managed to make their death saves until their friends could help them out.
So if you made it through all of this--go ahead and as me anything!

[RIDE KAMENS] Review for the new JP spin-off: not very Kamen Rider, but lots of husbandos!
Ride Kamens (ćƒ©ć‚¤ćƒ‰ć‚«ćƒ”ćƒ³ć‚ŗ) is a game based on Kamen Riders that allows you to ride them interact with them, increase affection and train, the usual stat raising sim deal. The game is developed by Liber Entertainment (A3!, 18TRIP) and published by Bandai Namco (Dragon Ball Legends, One Piece Treasure Cruise); it has a positive reception in Japan so far (although the same can't be said for Global fans of the franchise since the game deviates a lot from the usual KR stuff).
So, third husbando game this month, and this one is purely for the geis lol not really, but kinda... The default MC is called Noah, so there's that. You can change the MC's name and your username at the start and choose your first person pronouns ("watashi" is the first option, "boku" is the second: the last one is more masculine, white "watashi" is used a bit more generally, so it's the option if you go by feminine or non-binary pronouns).
I couldn't connect to the game since the gameplay is mostly idle-ish, but I'm still somewhat enjoying it (you'll see the reason: the designs interest me a lot!). That being said, this post probably won't be as detailed as my usual reviews, but I'll try to objectively present the game features like any other review I write.

IMPORTANT!!!

If you can't start the game (forever on loading screen after downloading the game data -- 1.8GB for the basic download or 3.3GB for batch download), you'll have to change your phone region to the US and the language to English. Japan/Japanese probably works as well, but English will be easier to understand for most people, since your phone and a lot of apps will change the language as well.
On Android, you can search for "language" or "region" in the Settings app (in your own language, of course) and youll find the option. Or (at least in my case, for Android 14) you can go to Settings - Additional settings - Language & region.
Previous to this game, an "Episode Zero" has been released in two formats: novel and audio drama (do not confuse it with the in-game Chapter 0). The story is a prequel to the game, focused on the protagonist's father. You can check it in the links at the end of this post. I don't have any knowledge about translations of this material, but the PDF is available for free and it's easy to translate it via any screen translator (since it's not written, but in image/scan format).

Once again, we have the unit/team-based husbandos, bringing the number of boys to 16, divided into five teams. And, surprise surprise, it's another game where all the characters are white and pretty slim, but the designs are great imo, and their Kamen/masked versions stand out a lot and make me appreciate the game more. STORY

Since I'm not fluent in Japanese and the pace of joseimuke games is crazy lately (I'll have another one to try on June 3rd), I've only read the 4 segments of chapter 0 and a couple of entries from Chapter 1 (the segments are pretty short, there are 15 chapters available on release :O). That being said, the game is written by Yuya Takahashi, a known author for the KR franchise, so that information might be useful for fans out there (source).
The game is set in its own universe and it's its own thing. You're basically a clueless MC that wakes up in close to a museum, where you find a glowing mask that opens a dooportal to a Kamen academy area, where you discover the existence of the riders and also discover about how chaos is taking control of the society through an evil organization called Chaosism. It's basically the introduction, but a bit of spoilers ahead: you're introduced to this organization through the form of the academy's president, who's actually a member of the Ulseven, an influential Chaosism group consisting of seven members.
MC will discover they're actually the descendant of a previous leadeagent(?) of the Kamen RIders, and their butler Leon will help them follow their father's footsteps to bring order to this world controlled by chaos.
\"Playing for the plot\". The plot ā†‘

GAMEPLAY

The gameplay loop consists in using cards to do exploration missions in order to get chaostones, which you use in battles. So basically, you'll want to auto the whole exploration, which is basically a training segment that takes several minutes with training, resting, encounters and a final battle to get a chaostone.
You select a leader card, other 3 cards (and it's also possible to bring a friend to support you), plus a chaostone you already own; these elements ideally have to excel in two attributes (there are four of them: red, blue, green and yellow), which are the two from the area where you're sending the leader boy to explore. Complete this exploration/training and you'll get a better chaostone than you already have. These stones have a combat power that will be the main stat to win battles. Cards are leveled up with materials obtained via stages and missions, but chaostones are mainly obtained via exploration. Exploration also levels up your cards a bit. VERY IMPORTANT: the chaostone you get from exploration will be from the same boy as you set up as the leader card (each card has with two arts: the standard one, and the chaostone one).
You'll encounter battles in a couple of story stages and on daily grind for materials, so you'll use your chaostones quite frequently (these battles are the usual chibi ones you see in most 2D games, oh well...). For some reason, you have 2 different energy/stamina types: 100 energy for your exploration (consumes 20 per exploration), and 3 BPs daily for the grinding stages (consumes 1 BP per battle). Battle is basically auto and you only have to tap once to finish it; you'll need a higher battle value than your enemy to win (the grade of your chaostones will define the battle value of them, grind exploration for better graded stones -- grades are the exam format, as in A+, D, F etc.). After you finish a daily battle, you can skip the other 2 battles instantly (thus consuming all the 3 BPs).
There's also a Camouflage Cafe where you can set four boys to hang out with and interact (3 times daily for each boy) in order to increase their affection. This feature also uses the chibi versions, unfortunately. You can also gift them (gifts are mostly obtained for free while playing and completing missions --there's apparently no daily limit for gifting). Besides interacting and gifting, it's also possible to increase your affection through battling.

GACHA AND MONETIZATION

Among the three games released this month (the others being Break My Case and 18TRIP), this one is the game where I've felt less the greedy hands from the devs (even though it's a game published by Bamco). There are lots of 10 (standard) pulls given for completing the first handful of chapters, free pulls from starter rewards, free gems from newbie missions etc. but we still have to wait for future events to understand the actual pulls income in the long run. And the pity is quite okay: 100 pulls guarantee a random 4 stars card (the highest rarity in-game).
There are 2 special paid-only banners that require a paid 10-pull ticket with a 4 stars guaranteed for each. But I guess the game has some sort of bug, where I see the prices of both packs as 108 yen each. Since I'm not from Japan and I've downloaded the game from third party apps, I can't confirm the right price. I also can't see the price for 10 pulls and other stuff, I'm sorry (if I click any paid pack, it gives me an error and it brings me back to the title screen).
Every 10 pulls guarantee a 3 stars card, and currently there's no limited banner per se, only a standard banner and specific banners for each team of riders, and these team-only banners have a deadline of July 16 (probably for a pity/spark reset). One 4* card only for each boy so far. A pull costs 200 gems (2k per 10 pulls), and the odds are 3% for four stars and 18% for three stars (the other 79% is probably the odds for 2 stars, but the in-game notice doesn't add up to that, so I can't confirm that, although it's very likely). Just for reference: a story stage gives 30 gems for the first completion, story with battle gives 60 gems, and daily battles give 50 gems.
Not everything is a strawberry field (forever), so there's a catch in this apparent less-greedy-game-of-May-2024 (phew, that was a mouthful): the cards require dupes to increase their max level. 2* cards start at 40 max level with no dupe, 3* have a max level of 60 and 4*, max level of 80. All the cards can have up to 4 dupes, each one increasing the max level by 5 (so respectively the max levels are 60, 80 and 100).
Quick observation: the team-specific banners are tricky, be careful! The odds are really low: team-specific 4* cards only have a 0.25% chance to be rolled, and the rest of the 3% odds is divided by the other boys (so it's usually around 0.17% per off-banner 4*). The catch is: these banners have a spark of 250 pulls, so after 250 pulls, you can get a specific card you want from that team. The team banners have exclusive spark currencies (5 teams, 5 different sparks) and they don't share pity. Not clear enough if the pity will carry over to other banners of another kind, but the spark won't. You can also get other cards from the specific team and materials if you don't reach 250 pulls.
IMPORTANT! At the start there's a free 10x pull that guarantee a 4* card. This pull only guarantee one 4*, so get the boy you like the most. You can get more than one 3*, though (you can even get none at all).

CONSIDERATIONS

I haven't been exposed to the Kamen Riders franchise that much, but I do believe this game can be quite interesting for people interested in joseimuke/idol games AND tokusatsus (or specifically Kamen Rider since it's written by an already established Kamen Rider author). If you don't know Japanese and you don't have those interests, it might be a hard sell.
Overall, I really enjoyed most things about the game, even though the gameplay is really weak in my personal opinion. But everything else is pretty well done, the live2D lives up to the modern standards, and I personally love the music and the riders' transformation segments (it's pretty mahou shoujo -ish). Also love the fact that you can obtain backgrounds (and a background song or two) from missions to customize your homescreen for free; costumes aren't that hard to obtain either: they come from gacha cards, and not only 4* ones: 3* cards also come with costumes!
Minor complaints: even though I love the batch download, the game isn't really that well optimized and there's a bunch of loading screens. Not to the point of making me give up on the game because of them, but still quite noticeable and tiresome. I can see this and the fact you need to change your phone's region to impede some players of downloading it. The UI (image above) is very appealing aesthetically to me, but the navigation can be prett confusing, and the menu (top right button) has too many options, more than it'd be necessary.
And a last request: please, check the links at the end of this post. There are several useful ones: besides the usual download links, there are links for the fanmade English Twitter and Discord accounts, an UI navigation guide (this game is the really intricate menu-wise). The Discord community, along with the Twitter account, are translating some bits of the game, like voicelines and personal stories, and they'll potentially make some story translations available as well.
Oni-inspired suit? Peak design!

TL;DR

Pros:
  • High quality (specially in character design and live2D);
  • Free costumes, backgrounds, customization, not many things paywalled;
  • Seems to be free to play friendly (-ish);
  • Story written by a previous Kamen Rider author;
  • Pretty active English community support;
  • No geoblock, so no VPN required.
Cons:
  • You might need to change your phone region/language;
  • Not available in English;
  • UI can be hard to grasp;
  • Card level is tied to dupes;
  • A bit too much of loading screens.
Unsure:
  • The gameplay: it's probably a love-it-or-hate-it case since it's idle-ish.
