The planner includes thoughtfully designed sections for planning your week, breaking it down into daily to-do lists and time blocks. One feature that's really stood out for me is the Gratitude and Affirmation section, which sets a positive tone for the day ahead. Plus, let's not forget how adorable it looks with its light pink cover! The Paper quality, however, seems to be a common concern among users, with some feeling it could be improved to enhance the overall appearance and durability of the planner. Despite this minor drawback, users have found immense value in the planner's ease of use and ability to keep tasks organized. Overall, this planner has helped me stay more organized, focused, and positive on a daily basis. As a product reviewer, I highly recommend giving the LIFE & Style Planner a try - it might just be your new favorite too! https://preview.redd.it/r59xxk2si52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4c3ad6598ddd364081b4ca70e43afdb157cc56e5 Experience the joy of organized planning with the Rileys 2024 Weekly Planner. With its cute cat design, flexible cover, twin-wire binding, and spacious page layouts, it's perfect for keeping track of your appointments, tasks, and goals. Its compact design and quality paper ensure that it fits your daily life perfectly, making it the perfect companion for staying organized. https://preview.redd.it/qxf5nrksi52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5b80158aa2b38bcda0e922e83adf4e864d59e40 As a recent convert to the world of planners, I can't express enough how much the Deluxe Academic Planner from Global Printed Products has changed my life. Its spacious format, filled with 8.5 x 11 inch pages, has made it easy for me to jot down every thought or appointment that comes to mind. The vibrant, fashionable design perfectly blends with my style, making each glance at it feel like a small treat. One of the standout features of this planner is its durability. The sturdy cover and thick pages endure even the roughest of treatment, providing a reliable companion no matter how hectic my day becomes. And, of course, the planning stickers are an absolute joy to use. They add a personal touch to every entry, making me feel more connected with my plans and goals. However, one feature that could use some improvement is the lack of space for extra notes. While the daily planner section is comprehensive, I find myself needing a little extra room for brainstorming or recording miscellaneous thoughts. In conclusion, the Deluxe Academic Planner from Global Printed Products offers a fashionable and functional solution for organizing my daily life. Its clever design elements and durability make it a worthwhile investment, although a bit more room for personalized notes would be a welcome improvement. https://preview.redd.it/uduh79tsi52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c8d979a7e932a657cf89dd0bd22098d6e7a0009f As the wedding bells rang, I knew I had to get myself an organizational tool to ensure that everything went smoothly on my special day. That's when I came across the undated Wedding Plans Happy Planner. This gem of a planner included 12 dividers, making it easy for me to compartmentalize different aspects of my wedding, from the invitations to the honeymoon. What I enjoyed most about this planner was the detailed wedding timeline and checklist. It helped me stay on track and ensured that I didn't miss out on any crucial details. The dimensions of 7" x 9" made it easy to carry around in my bag, perfect for planning on-the-go. One downside was that the pages weren't all that durable, and they started to wear out after a few uses. However, the disc-bound system made it easy for me to add and remove pages, which allowed me to personalize my planner according to my needs. In conclusion, the Wedding Plans Happy Planner helped me keep all my wedding plans together, and the undated format gave me the flexibility to plan my special day at my own pace. If you're looking for a cute planner to help you organize your wedding, this one might just be the perfect match! https://preview.redd.it/jmw0wqati52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7218769844c2cd07532c91ce6ba9e9acf9088b52 I've been using the "Efficient 14 Month Planner" for about a month now, and I can confirm that it's been a game changer in keeping my schedule tidy and organized. The layout is clean and easy to navigate, with ample space for each day's appointments and tasks. One of the standout features for me is the 'Hourly Scheduling' column for each day. Given the unpredictable nature of my schedule, this has been a life saver in keeping track of all my time slots. I also appreciating the 'Flex Space' provided, which gives me some elbow room to jot down any additional notes or reminders. The minimalist design is also a major plus. I find that the streamlined layout helps me focus on what's important instead of getting overwhelmed by an overly complex visual. Plus, the paper quality is spot on - not too glossy nor too thin. On the downside, I wish the binding was a bit sturdier. While it holds up well enough, it does have a tendency to loosen the pages slightly after a lot of flipping back and forth. Still, this certainly doesn't detract from the overall utility and design of the planner. https://preview.redd.it/zf6109sti52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2c35ec86d6db0b9be1711db280598c38d7d5cb6f I recently stumbled upon the MESMOS Undated Daily Planner and it has completely changed how I approach my daily tasks. Its compact size and beautiful zen design make it a perfect partner for my on-the-go lifestyle. As someone who often juggles multiple projects, I've found that the daily goal section on each page helps me prioritize my tasks and focus on what really matters. Plus, starting each day with a gratitude entry or an inspirational quote really sets a positive tone right from the start. What I particularly admire about this planner is its resilience. The hard cover and premium quality paper ensure that my daily entries are safe and secure, even when I'm stuffing it in and out of my bag. However, like every other product, it does have its downsides. For instance, the spiral binding may take some getting used to if you're not used to it. Despite this minor inconvenience, I've found that the MESMOS daily planner has greatly enhanced my productivity and organizational skills. It's not just a place to jot down my to-dos, but also a tool to help me navigate my daily tasks with ease and confidence. If you're in search of a stylish and functional daily planner, I would definitely recommend giving the MESMOS Undated Daily Planner a shot! https://preview.redd.it/t62eds6ui52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8e70e389cbef10b12f221151bbf044405becc795 Living with Marilyn Monroe's charm and spunk became a reality for me when I started using this undated planner. The sleek and stylish cover, coupled with the beautiful full-color and black-and-white photographs throughout, made me feel like I was carrying a piece of Hollywood glamor with me every day. The undated weekly and monthly overviews are an organized way of keeping track of appointments and dates, while the goal-tracking and to-do list pages help me stay on top of my daily tasks. The one thing that could have been improved is the ribbon marker, which feels a bit flimsy compared to the rest of the planner's high-quality design. Overall, this Marilyn Monroe planner has been a delightful companion in my daily life. https://preview.redd.it/5s0mk1sui52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa720c392bb0f1d25d26a8f26d6a609dcfd24025 Oh boy, do I have a fun product to share with you for the new year! The Dachshund Planner 2024 is the perfect companion for anyone looking to stay organized and on top of their schedule. It's like having a cute little assistant, always reminding you of important dates and events. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Why a dachshund? " Well, let me tell you a little story. Once upon a time, I decided that I needed some serious help with my daily scheduling. I was overwhelmed by all the clutter in my life, both physically and mentally. That's when I stumbled upon this adorable planner. The moment I opened it up, I fell in love with the cute puppy illustrations and the beautiful pink hearts sprinkled throughout. It felt more like a friend than a planner. And the best part? It actually made me want to use it! Each page is thoughtfully designed to help me keep track of everything from appointments to birthdays to important meetings. Plus, it has a dedicated section for family events and medical visits, which is perfect for those of us who (like me) sometimes forget to call the dentist. One thing I've noticed is that the paper is thicker than your average planner, which means no pesky bleed-through from ballpoint pens. Yay! The only downside I've experienced so far is that there aren't any stickers or cute extras included with the planner, but I can easily find those online or at a nearby stationery store. Overall, I am absolutely thrilled with my Dachshund Planner 2024. It's cute, practical, and helps me keep my life together in a stylish way. So why not give it a try and see what all the fuss is about? https://preview.redd.it/9o4kdcevi52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37cefb3cd4b67886194dbaf27400621fec38765f I've been using the 2024 Nouveau Floral planner from Paper Source for a few weeks now, and I must say, I'm absolutely in love with it! This planner is not only functional but also beautifully designed with a chic floral touch. The spiral binding and elastic band closure make it easy to flip through the pages and keep everything secure. One feature that really stood out to me was its weekly and monthly views. These allowed me to plan out my week in detail while also not losing sight of the bigger picture for the month. I also appreciated the inclusion of note pages for me to jot down important information or reminders. However, there are a few things that could have made this planner even better. For instance, I wish there were some stickers or colorful page dividers included to make it feel more personalized. Additionally, the paper quality could be improved as I found it to be a tad flimsy, especially when using pens with ink that tends to bleed through. Despite these minor drawbacks, the 2024 Nouveau Floral planner from Paper Source has proven to be a valuable companion in keeping my life organized and on track. If you're looking for a stylish and functional planner to help you stay productive, this one is definitely worth considering! https://preview.redd.it/pgcvulmvi52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06742490dde7e5c0aaa40764915e0dd901b8d313 I recently purchased Rileys & Co Undated Planner to help me keep track of my daily tasks and stay organized. Right away, I appreciated its compact size that fits perfectly in my bag. As someone who loves all things cute, I was thrilled with the colorful cover design, giving it an appealing appearance. This planner excels at helping me prioritize my day. With its dedicated sections for meal planning and fitness goals, I've been able to incorporate healthier habits into my routine. It's not just about productivity; being able to look back at daily achievements has boosted my morale and self-esteem. However, one small con I experienced was that the ink occasionally bled through the pages when I wrote too hard. But overall, this planner has significantly improved my daily planning and brought more structure to both my personal and professional life. If you're seeking a cute and functional planner to help optimize your daily routine, this certainly fits the bill! https://preview.redd.it/dym7wzyvi52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06d2640a500106487b93c338e680a1bb1bf43554 As a busy mom, I was ecstatic when I stumbled upon the 2023 Amy Knapp's Very Busy Planner. This hardback planner has truly made my life easier and more productive. The moment I flipped through its 224 pages, I was instantly hooked by the adorable and colorful illustrations that just made planning feel less like a chore. One of the standout features of this planner is its spacious layout, which allows me to jot down important dates, appointments, and deadlines without feeling cramped. Plus, the planner also offers weekly to-do lists - a game changer for someone like me who thrives on checking things off a list. On the cons side, the size of the planner could be a little too bulky for some to carry around. However, this is a minor inconvenience compared to the overall benefits this planner provides. All in all, the 2023 Amy Knapp's Very Busy Planner is a fantastic addition to any family who wants to stay organized and on top of their busy lives. With its eye-catching design and meticulous layout, it's no wonder why it's been helping families stay organized since 1999. It has definitely become a must-have in our household! https://preview.redd.it/acbh5gkwi52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e53c130be34f803a7af7e416125269de57ee09cf I have to say, I've been using this Weekly Planner by Beechmore Books, and it has been an absolute game-changer for me. The hardcover is super sturdy, and the chestnut brown vegan leather is just so chic and elegant. What has really stood out for me is the extra thick, 120gsm cream paper. It's a dream to write on, without any ink bleeding through. Plus, the A5 size makes it perfect for carrying around all day. However, I do wish the cover had a little more protection against scratches. Overall, I can't recommend the Weekly Planner by Beechmore Books enough. It has certainly made my life a lot easier and more organized. https://preview.redd.it/la5muelxi52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7f173f1389af63428776048bf67651f76913d0c6 I've been using Amy Knapp's The Very Busy Planner for quite some time now, and I must say, it's been a game changer in keeping my life on track. As a busy mom with a hectic schedule, this planner has helped me stay organized and on top of everything. The first thing that caught my eye was its unique and playful design. It's not your average planner that looks boring and dull. This one has cute illustrations and a cheerful color palette that instantly brightens up your day. The planner is hardback, which makes it durable and easy to carry around. The pages are quite thick, reducing the chances of ink bleeding through to the next page. I also appreciate how Amy included ample space to write down daily tasks, appointments, and reminders. This has helped me prioritize my day effectively and avoid missing any important events. Another feature that stood out was the monthly overview that comes before each monthly calendar. It provides a bird's-eye view of the entire month, allowing me to plan ahead and ensure I haven't overbooked myself. Additionally, there are goal setting sections in the planner, encouraging me to set both short-term and long-term goals and track progress towards achieving them. However, one area where I think the planner could use some improvement is in its size. At 6 x 1.5 x 8.38 inches, it can sometimes be a little unwieldy to carry around in smaller bags. Nonetheless, the benefits of using this planner far outweigh this minor inconvenience. In conclusion, Amy Knapp's The Very Busy Planner has made my life so much easier in terms of organization and planning. Its quirky design, useful features, and high-quality construction make it a reliable companion on my journey towards achieving my goals and living a more organized life. https://preview.redd.it/j8r8ujuxi52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29ef60601094f95ba1b021e03932708e9034105a Using the Regolden-Book Daily Planner has truly been a game-changer in keeping my life organized and on track. The Teal cover with gold stamping adds a touch of elegance and makes it a pleasure to use daily. The undated format allows me to start using it at any time, and the weekly layout is perfect for keeping track of appointments and daily tasks. The thick 150gsm paper not only gives ample writing space but also prevents ink bleeding through, ensuring a clean and professional look. The sturdy golden wire binding enables smooth page-turning and 360-degree lay-flat ability, which is incredibly convenient for writing on the go. One feature that I particularly appreciate is the attached inner pocket in the back, which holds various loose items like lists, tickets, and important notes. And of course, the pen holder ensures that I always have a writing instrument handy. Overall, the Regolden-Book Daily Planner has improved my time management skills and productivity. Its useful layout and premium quality make it an excellent choice for anyone in need of a reliable and stylish planner. Buyer's Guide When choosing a cute planner, several features should be considered. Pay attention to the size and layout that best suits your needs. Standing tall at 50 inches, this tree is perfect for my large cats who love to climb, jump, and play. The multi-functional design allows them to rest, climb, and exercise according to their wishes. They love to lounge in the cozy flower-shaped cat beds and stretch their legs on the sturdy branches. The high-quality material made of particle board covered with flannel is soft and comfortable for my cats, with the built-in iron pipe pillars providing a durable and stable structure. The spacious room and pumpkin-shaped design create a comfortable sleeping environment, and the built-in scratching pad ensures that my furniture stays scratch-free. One downside I noticed is that it's pretty heavy, making it a bit difficult to move around. However, the installation process was straightforward, and it didn't take long before my cats were enjoying their new playground. Overall, this cat tower offers a fun, cozy, and durable space for my cats to unwind and play. https://preview.redd.it/7ed6tj5nb52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7653a0d4ea3d0f6fbd43c1145babdc634f2cf59 I recently had the pleasure of using the Skywin Modern Cat Tower, and I must say, it's a purr-fect playtime companion for my feline friends. The sleek, modern design not only enhanced the stylishness of my living space but also provided my cats with a comfortable and stimulating environment to play, scratch, and relax. One of the standout features of this cat tower is the Sisal-branded cat scratch pad. Cats simply couldn't resist the natural textures and scratching capabilities of this material, and it seemed to keep them entertained for hours. The soft felt pads also provided a cozy and safe surface for them to take naps and curl up on. While the Modern Cat Tower was easy to assemble and conveniently sits on the floor, I noticed that the sturdy design could be a bit of a challenge for some older cats to climb on. Additionally, the instructions for hand-washing the padding seemed a bit unusual, but I couldn't think of another way to keep the pads spotless. All in all, the Skywin Modern Cat Tower serves as a stylish and functional addition to any cat lover's home. Its eye-catching design and diverse features make it a unique and enriching playtime experience for cats of all ages. https://preview.redd.it/abgd20knb52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9b58f44f181e76cc6f7cb400a9f0640235a70640 Recently, I had the pleasure of trying the Cat Craft 00350 climbing and perch cat tree. This versatile piece of furniture was perfect for my home, easily adjusting to the ceiling for added stability. The expandable rod made it easy to assemble, and the soft, plush fabric provided a cozy space for my furry friends to rest. The velcro sisal mat was an added bonus, encouraging them to scratch and play. However, one downside was the cleaning process - the fabric needed to be hand-washed only. Despite this, the overall experience with the Cat Craft 00350 was a positive one, with my cats enjoying the different levels and perches available. The water-resistant frame added durability, and the inclusion of a scratching pad and claw post made this a well-rounded cat climbing and resting solution. https://preview.redd.it/xfw0fkznb52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93391e39ff3d7f82cae4a5069357b92af90cfa16 I recall using this 53-inch multi-level cat tree in my own home, and it definitely lived up to the hype! . The three floors provided my curious kitty plenty of space to climb and explore. I even noticed a distinct difference in her activity levels since having this playhouse. The product is made of E1 grade particle board, which offers a stable and secure foundation for cats to rely on, and the sisal-covered scratching posts kept my kitten happy and content. The plush perch was soft and friendly, and the kitten showed great satisfaction with it. My only minor gripe was the need for more frequent cleaning, but overall, I would highly recommend this cat tree to any pet owner looking to provide their kitty an engaging and entertaining environment. https://preview.redd.it/65effi6ob52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ba8dd896cfd713ac1a1bc17bc440a987a3fa2c17 I just got this cat tree for my furry little buddy and I must say, it's a game-changer. The 61-inch solid wood design is not only visually appealing but also sturdy, ensuring my cat's safety while he plays. The multiple tiers, condo, ladder, and hanging toys keep him active and entertained, and as a bonus, the natural sisal ropes are perfect for those scratching sessions. I appreciate how easy it was to assemble, with the included hardware and instructions. Overall, I'm beyond happy with this purchase, and my cat seems to love it just as much. https://preview.redd.it/lte1lzpob52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56a3ec13b4f9b98d057e2f49e84adb9234586726 PAWZ Road's Modern 5-Level Indoor Cat Tower has been a staple in my cat's life for months now. Not only does it come in a sleek, modern-looking design, but it also comes with a pendant that adds an extra touch of cuteness. The tower is made of a sturdy, durable wood material that has held up well over time. The scratching texture on the tower is a game-changer for my kitty - it's perfect for her scratching needs. It's not too steep nor too low, so my cat feels secure while climbing. The top groove provides a cozy spot for her to nap and feel embraced, which she absolutely loves. Despite the fact that it comes with pieces to assemble, I found it to be a breeze to put together. Plus, it saves space in my house and gives my cat a playful area to climb, nap, and investigate. It's a great alternative to large freestanding cat trees and scratching posts, and it seamlessly fits into my home's decor with its beige and white color. Cleaning the tower is simple - I use a lint roller or give it a good scrub with some soap. Overall, my cat adores her PAWZ Road Tower, and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. https://preview.redd.it/ldo47jwob52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81f608b6978ddae57a0cb01b645788d25529e7e7 As a reviewer, I found the MSmask Cat Tree 76 Inches to be a delightful addition to my indoor cat's playtime routine. It stands tall at 76 inches, offering ample space for my kitty to climb up and down and enjoy the various levels. The multi-layer design is perfect for multi-cat households or for those with a single furry friend who enjoys exploring different levels. I particularly loved the large space at the top, where I placed the perches and the long condo. The cozy spots were a hit with my cat, who happily lounged at the highest point in the morning, basking in the warmth of the first rays of sunshine. The three types of hammocks catered to different cat sizes and preferences, ensuring that my little one found her perfect spot to curl up. One of my favorite features was the sisal scratching posts, which kept my cat's claws in check and provided a natural way for her to maintain healthy nails. With its sturdy and stable design, this cat tower not only kept my cat safe but also made it easy to assemble, providing a hassle-free experience for its users. The MSmask Cat Tree 76 Inches is a charming and functional addition to any cat lover's home, delivering on both style and practicality. https://preview.redd.it/kbfskv8pb52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3fe0187e51fe4c7fc30b734d6b640b4253ea0d39 The COZIWOW cat tree was the ultimate hideaway for my feline friends. Made of natural branch and chipboard, it was a beautiful and durable addition to our home. The soft velboa on each cat perch provided a cozy spot for them to lounge on. However, the stability of the tree left something to be desired. Despite the assembly being straightforward, the product wasn't as solid as I would have hoped. One of my cats enjoyed playing with the scratching balls at the base of the tree, and the different layers of perches allowed for flexibility in their climbing. The design was attractive, but the craftsmanship wasn't of the highest quality, as I ended up having to find a larger bolt to secure the broken piece. Although the tree could be wobbly at times, my cats liked using it and it was a fun addition to our living room. However, I would recommend this product for smaller cats rather than large ones to ensure stability. Overall, the COZIWOW cat tree offered a unique and attractive spot for my cats to play and relax, but it wasn't perfect for every situation. https://preview.redd.it/yihwpgvpb52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d2cfc81183edcb07f1bb8036e3fb18cc18ff2a70 As a reviewer who's been using the Naomi Home Lulu Cat Tower, let me tell you that this towering feline haven is a true five-star wonder. With two generously sized levels, it's a haven for large kitties to stretch, climb, and perch in comfort. The house-cats of the world will appreciate the thoughtful design; not only does the rugged household-grade carpet create a cozy resting spot, but the oil-less sisal rope ensures their nails stay sharp and healthy. And, let's not forget the scratching post - a vital necessity for any feline friend. There's no need to fret about assembly either. As one reviewer attested, it's a breeze to put together. However, there's a catch - while the tower can hold over 50 pounds, the top perch might not accommodate larger cats. But this minor drawback doesn't even come close to detracting from the overall satisfaction of the product. Its visual appeal, craftsmanship, and easy assembly all come together to make the Naomi Home Lulu Cat Tower a top choice for large-cat lovers everywhere. https://preview.redd.it/15tbz60qb52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=72448f935cb7d3be1862904cba73046b4b84d38e For the past few weeks, I've had the pleasure of introducing our indoor cat to the Monibloom Cat Tree. As a busy family, we've always struggled to keep our feline friend entertained, especially when it comes to playtime. This cat tree has been a game-changer! I was initially drawn to its multi-level design. My cat seems to enjoy having a variety of platforms to explore, lounge, and even nap on. The cat condos are a huge hit, too. It provides a bit of privacy and a comfortable spot for our cat to retreat to, especially during the hustle and bustle of the day. She even enjoys scratching on the sisal rope posts - it's been more entertaining than I expected! What truly impresses me is the sturdy construction. Despite daily playtime, the Monibloom Cat Tree remains stable and secure, offering our cat a dependable structure to play without any worries about tipping over. The soft, plush fabric also adds a touch of luxury, making it a comfortable place for our cat to rest and relax. However, there is one area of improvement: the cat tree is a bit heavy for easy relocation. Other than that, we're thoroughly enjoying our new furry companion's playtime companion. The Monibloom Cat Tree is a must-have for any indoor cat owner looking to provide endless fun and entertainment. https://preview.redd.it/eam67ylqb52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1797a4045f93f0fd0e3c82db8327fc50182132c4 Imagine walking into your living room and seeing a little kitty kingdom sitting pretty in the corner. This is no ordinary kingdom, but rather a cute little feline kingdom housed in a vibrant fish-nap colored cat tower. The first thing that caught my eye was its stylish design that complemented my home's décor, instead of sticking out like a sore thumb. Once assembled, I was impressed by the sturdy structure that made it look stable, making my fuzzy friend feel safe and secure as they went about their playful business. The spacious platform provided a comfortable spot for my kitten to gaze far and wide, looking like a little king or queen surveying their territory from above. The integrated sisal scratching post was a hit, providing a natural and safe way for my kitty to scratch away without harming my furniture. The faux fur used in the cat tower was exceptionally soft and comfortable, ensuring they had a cozy place to rest, sleep, and unwind. If there was one downside, it would be the absence of detailed instructions included with the package. However, I managed to put it together with the help of some online guidance and tools included fortunately. Overall, this fish-nap colored cat tower is an excellent investment for any cat lover, providing a fun, safe, and comfortable space for their feline friends. https://preview.redd.it/7j1ndxtqb52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d57e04cbd3ce988e1bd6e5c5aa72672e2cb480e3 As a cat owner, I was drawn to the Cat Craft 00350 Unisex 4-Level Carpeted, Adjustable Floor to Ceiling Climbing & Perch Cat Tree for its sleek design and versatility. With an expandable rod that secures the tree to the ceiling for added stability, reaching a height of 89.76 inches, it was a perfect fit for my living space. The tree's features were the highlights of my experience, from the Velcro sisal mat that increased interest and allowed for scratching, to the soft, plush fabric that provided a cozy resting spot for my furry friend. The built-in scratching post and perch were a bonus, adding variety to the tree's design. One thing that stood out was the easy-to-clean fabric, making it a hassle-free addition to my home. The easy-to-follow instructions and durable, furniture-style design were pluses for modern cat parents like myself. However, the product's overall weight made assembly a bit challenging, but once set up, it provided a stable and safe climbing experience for my cat. The limited 60-day warranty was also a bit disappointing, but overall, the Cat Craft 00350 Unisex Cat Tree exceeded my expectations in terms of functionality and style. https://preview.redd.it/6llykq8rb52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00e5fa135c39517a130a8a31d8b9829c5b869fe7 I recently discovered the Bestpet 33-inch Cat Tree, and I must say, it's been a delightful addition to my indoor cat's life. The cat tower comes with complete instructions and tools, making it a breeze to assemble this little abode. My cat seems to love it, spending hours lounging around and even using the scratching posts. However, there were a few minor drawbacks. Firstly, the cat tree is quite small, which might not be ideal for larger cats. Secondly, the instructions, although provided, were not very clear or helpful. But overall, it's a cute and functional cat tower for smaller cats or kittens. https://preview.redd.it/r098nwprb52d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6bc939fc7787c863db17c114f90ba35790f09e8d Meet IMUsee, a multi-level cat tower that's perfect for large cats. Its easy assembly is definitely a plus, especially for those with limited time or patience. Despite being a sturdy and well-constructed cat tower, some parts of the cat tree do feel a little lightweight. But overall, it holds up nicely, ensuring your feline friend can play, sleep, and scratch without any worries. 2024.05.23 09:51 IJustDontEvenKnow88 [Xbox Only] Full Support Mage Pawn, x5 Allheal for x1 Chimera kill, plus bonus Gems upon completion. Will also gift crafting materials upon request.
| Can't seem to get her hired anymore, even for x5 Allheals, so I've now swapped out her Chirurgeon for Forager, and swapped out her Celestial Paen for High Halidom (apparently it's what people want, so who am I to judge, I personally never use it). I'll leave her quest active for 1 week before I rest again, and if it still isn't completed, then I'll just go offline and try for Capcom hires. Any level can hire her for free if you add me as a friend on Xbox, my gamertag is Jedi Tuna Ninja. Pawn ID is JZKA6IHFEQF0 (that's the letter "i" and the number "0"). She's equipped with full dragonforged gear, Legions Might for auto resurrection, and x2 Rings of Recitation for increased casting speed, and has a high carry weight. Anyone who completes her quest will receive an extra gift of x12 Onyx, x6 Jasper, and x2 Tiger Eye after I check back and rest next week. I also have every crafting material and can send you some if you like, as well as a few spare golden beetles and eternal wakestones for anyone who completes the quest if you message me and request them. If you have suggestions or recommendations to get her hired more often, I'm open to hear them, but I refuse to pimp her out in skimpy gear. She's a respectable mage, and mages wear robes, not corsets. I also avoid wizards hats because it makes it hard to see the eyes. submitted by IJustDontEvenKnow88 to DragonsDogma2 [link] [comments] |
2024.05.23 09:03 slow_adaptation Why Do Indie Games Fail?
Why Do Indie Games Fail? One of the biggest hurdles indie games face is visibility. With thousands of games released yearly, standing out is more than a challenge—it's a battlefield. Poor visibility, coupled with limited marketing resources, can make any gem go unnoticed.
So, what can you do about it? Effective Indie Game Marketing Strategies 1. App Store Optimization (ASO) Why It Matters: ASO directly influences your game's visibility in app stores—the primary platforms where users discover and download new games. By optimizing your title, keywords, description, and images, you can greatly enhance your game’s visibility in search results and feature lists.
Example: Monument Valley increased its downloads significantly after focusing on strong visuals and keyword-rich descriptions.
2. Social Media Why It Matters: Social media is where your potential players spend a lot of their time. Well-crafted content on these platforms can convert viewers into players.
Tools: You can use
Canva for visual content and
Boost App Social to enhance social media posts, along with
Buffer to strategically schedule posts.
3. Get Your Game Reviewed Why It Matters: Reviews lend credibility and expand your game's reach.
Approach: Target gaming bloggers, YouTubers, and niche influencers who might be interested in reviewing your game, creating a buzz within their follower base.
4. Engage with the Paparazzi Why It Matters: Media coverage can significantly boost your game's visibility.
How to Do It: Develop compelling press releases and maintain an updated press kit. Tools like
PRLog can facilitate this process.
Example: Among Us saw a resurgence and explosive growth when it caught the attention of prominent Twitch streamers and YouTubers.
5. Become Active in Forums and Communities Why It Matters: Engaging directly with potential players helps build relationships and gather valuable feedback.
Where to Engage: Beyond
gamedev, consider communities like TIGForums and DeviantArt.
Example: The creators of
Terraria actively engaged with their community on forums, integrating their feedback, which helped maintain a supportive player base.
Wrapping Up Marketing your indie game effectively means wearing many hats. You’ll be part marketer, part social butterfly, and full-time game evangelist. But with the right tools and a bit of elbow grease, you can give your game a fighting chance in the crowded arena of indie games.

2024.05.23 08:55 izanagi57395 upper/mid tier 3rd gen girl group appreciation
this is just cuz i finished listening to lovelyz's whole discography, but like holy shit 3rd gen has an abundance of amazing girl groups outside the big 3 🙏
WJSN is my favourite 3rd gen group of all time, i stream them literally every day because of how interesting and addicting their sound is! the concept of magical space sounds with more mature comebacks in the past few years has sounded spectacular, and they have such a wealth of amazing b-sides. Masquerade is my all-time favourite song by them and one of my favourite songs ever, it's jsut so carefully crafted and sounds like an adventure. not to mention the other amazing b-sides they have like Luckitty-cat, I-Yah, Cantabile, You you you, New Me, You Got, Pantomime, and so many others!
Weki Meki is in hell right now, but i think their title tracks deserve so much more recognition than they were given. Oopsy has been on repeat since i've heard it, it's actually too good. Dazzle Dazzle is such an unorthodox sounding song but works so well and manages to be cutesy while still sounding so fucking addicting with great vocals. Cool is a turnaround on these sounds yet still maintains such a great sound, and Siesta is an amazingly upbeat summer song that was payed absolute dust. shoutout to their b-side Who Am I btw, one of the best b-sides ive heard from a group ever.
Lovelyz is the group i most recently went through, and their discography is the definition of consistent; just back to back magical, pixelated, mature yet soft songs that packed such good lyrics. Wow! is the first song i heard from them and it's still one of my favourite songs ever, the lyrics and progressions and sound design are genuinely perfect. and b-sides like Night and Day just make me feel so much emotion, i love the tone of their voices so much.
there are so so so many other amazing girl groups like GFriend, Berry Good, Gugudan, pre-debut Loona, Oh My Girl, etc. that deserve so much more recognition for their amazing vocalists and dicographies! i dont have much else to add lol, feel free to discuss your favourite smallenon big 3 3rd gen acts/songs !!

2024.05.23 08:21 Extension_Breath1407 TOH Epilogue OC: Potion Willy Wonka
| https://preview.redd.it/3dnohq9p942d1.png?width=3686&format=png&auto=webp&s=87b9cb0c0aa3b882d177a4caa72645f865ff83e5 So here is a original character who might appear after The Owl House epilogue. An Antagonist who would cause the main characters problems with his antics but manages to slip by. I designed him after Willy Wonka if he made potions and was quite morally ambiguous. So he is Boscha's uncle on her three-eyed mother's side, being the younger brother of her mother. Boscha is actually related to an eminent Potion making family whose skills rival that of the Clawthornes. Boscha and her mother does not really like talking about them and tries to avoid them which is fine by Gilles who is now the heir of his family's potion making business. A smooth-talking slick man who really knows how to put on a performance. He seems like a jolly person to be around but something about him is very hard to read. He is a master of his craft where he carries hundreds of potions on himself that bear a massive variety of effects such as putting people to sleep, turning them into animals, turning invisible, or even mind control. He also practices alchemy where he made several enchanted objects such as a Hat that can store nearly anything inside as well as shoes that allows him to walk without making any sounds. Gilles runs his factory on the other side of the Boiling Isles where he brews and mass distributes the finest potions. Several Potion makers were unable to keep up with the quality and affordability of his potions, being driven out of business. He even formed a contract with Belos, selling potions to the Emperor's Coven. He did find out about the truth about the Day of Unity but he did not fall for Belos's lies. Killing practically everyone else in the Boiling Isles is horrible for his business because he won't have any customers left. He won't do anything to directly assist Belos's plans and just lets the heroes deal with him. After Belos's death and the reconstruction of the Isles, he feels confident enough about finally making his presence known. Now he is dedicated to putting his family and business on the same level as the Noceda family and Blight Industries. submitted by Extension_Breath1407 to TheOwlHouse [link] [comments] |
2024.05.23 07:14 blistboy Wicked is ONLY a prequel to the 1939 film (**not Baum's book)
This is in no way a suggestion or insistence that you must consume Wicked, the 1939 film, or any Oz any related media as part of any kind of "canon" or connected continuity. How you consume media is entirely up to you. Just some interesting tidbits I originally posted in the Wicked sub and I thought I'd share with you guys... \**Preamble: A prequel is “a literary, dramatic or cinematic work whose story precedes that of a previous work, by focusing on events that occur before the original narrative”. It is just a word to describe the type of narrative Wicked and Oz the Great and Powerful are. Just like Journey Back to Oz and Return to Oz are “sequels” made by different production companies. It in no way connotes an “official” connection between legally distinct IPs. It is just a way to describe the function of the narrative.*
...Also, I am not a copyright lawyer, I'm not any kind of lawyer, nor am I making an accusation that anyone or any entity is infringing on the copyright or trademark of any other entities. That being said… So, I have a theory that
Wicked -- both Maguire's novel (
Wicked: the Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West), 1995) and more so the musical (
Wicked, 2003 Universal Stage Productions) -- solely functions as a prequel to the 1939 MGM film
the Wizard of Oz(now owned by WB), and not that film's public domain source novel
the Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. Let me explain...
Maguire started writing Wicked in
response to the Gulf War, presumably starting around 1990 through its publishing date in 1995. The 1939 film had a big boom in 1989 for its 50th Anniversary resulting in deluge of promotional material -- including an animated
TV show adaptation by DIC, where Glinda was redesigned to look like Barbie -- complete with long blonde hair!
Maguire's clever use of Oz characters passed scrutiny during publication in 1995 because the Baum novel had long been in the public domain… as well as Ted Turner arranging to sell the MGM catalog to WB, circa 1997, making the timing ideal for Maguire's novel to skirt any copyright/trademark scrutiny for using elements from the non-public domain film.
We know what happened next, the book was a raging success and soon it was popular enough to be optioned by Universal and turned into a stage musical (produced after film & TV productions with Demi Moore and Salma Hayek separately attached failed to materialize). The musical opened first in San Francisco for try-outs and then Broadway in 2003. And writers Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman liberally peppered even more direct homages and winks to the 1939 film into leitmotifs and other elements of the book, score, and staging.
But,
Wicked has TOO many elements from the 1939 film, and NOT ENOUGH from Baum's original book, to merit it being called a prequel to the book (this is also true of Disney’s 2013
admitted attempt to cash-in on Wicked’s success,
Oz: the Great and Powerful – which is even more egregious than
Wicked, and ironic, as its own title is directly lifted from the 1939 film misquote of the book’s moniker of “Oz the Great and Terrible”).
So now, let's look at some of key differences between the book
the Wonderful Wizard of Oz (
WWoOZ) and its film adaption from 1939, and how
Wicked (and that Disney rip-off - though I don’t want to have to keep mentioning that movie so just assume most of what I say applies there too) reinterprets these events and characters:
- In the book WWoOz it is established that there are four cardinal witches in the land of Oz. Dorothy vanquishes two unrelated Wicked Witches in the East (WWotE) and West (WWotW) as well as encountering the benevolent unnamed good witch of the North at the start of her adventure and a separate good witch, Glinda of the South, who helps her home in the end. MGM condensed the good witches into one character “Glinda the Good Witch of the North” as well as adding a subplot turning the Wicked Witches into sisters (providing Margaret Hamilton’s Witch more direct motivation to pursue Judy Garland’s Dorothy via the Witch’s presumed right to collateral inheritance of her sister’s shoes). Both Maguire and Disney follow the 1939 film’s continuity regarding these relationships making the wicked witches siblings, and Glinda the sole “good witch” in opposition to them.
- WWotW as depicted in Baum’s novel bears little to no resemblance to the green-skinned Margaret Hamilton in the 1939 film, and subsequently Maguire’s Elphaba. Oz illustrator W. W. Denslow, whom Baum worked closely with when designing the characters, depicts the witch as a hunched old hag with three pigtails and an eyepatch, tall brimmed hat, ruffed collar, coat and skirt. While MGM’s design team, led by legendary costumer Adrian, initially tested several looks for WWotW (including a glamorous sequined look inspired by Disney’s Evil Queen in Snow White). MGM screenwriter, Herman Mankiewicz (who expanded the role of the wicked witch from book to screenplay, and wrote several key lines for her including, “I’ll get you my pretty!”) insisted "witches should be ugly!" leading to Gale Sondergard's replacement of Magaret Hamilton in the role. But the severe all-black silhouette cast by Hamilton's witch is nothing like the silly witch of Baum's text and Desnlow's art. And Susan Hilferty’s stage designs for Elphaba retain the 1939 film’s silhouette and dark color palette.
- Speaking of ugly witches... while green skinned characters, like folkloric swamp-hag Jenny Green-teeth, were not unheard of (even some promotional material for Disney's Snow White has their flesh-colored Hag looking a jaundiced yellow) it is widely acknowledged Margaret Hamilton’s Witch is the first in popular culture, and certainly on film, to be depicted with green skin. Likely, inspired by Universal's 1931 Frankenstein), promotional material for which depicted the Creature with sickly green skin, and chosen to accentuate the technicolor process, broadcasting the Witch's “wickedness” as well as helping Hamilton's frightening face and spider-like performance stand-out against her black costume, MGM producers chose green copper-based makeup for Hamilton's witch. The 1939 film's success in popular culture lead green-skinned witches to be accepted as "canon" in the public zeitgeist and now from Halloween make-up brands and Looney Tunes' Witch Hazel), the green skinned witch is mainstream. But as Professor Marion Gibson, associate professor of Renaissance and magical literatures at the University of Exeter and an expert in popular depictions of witches, explains, before 1939 "there are a few images of witches – for instance, on Halloween postcards – with odd coloured faces (usually red/orange, surprisingly) but MGM's green-faced witch is the first to make a key feature of a completely non-human skin colour." Needless to say this film element of green-skin became a major plot point of Maguire's Wicked.
- Another difference in Baum’s WWotW is that she only had one eye, but that it "was as powerful as a telescope", and this is how she spies on her enemies. MGM was again inspired by Snow White's Queen, and popular imagery of fortune tellers, giving Hamilton’s Witch the ability to scry in a large crystal ball, which made for some of the most memorable visuals of the film, of her looming eerily over the heroes. Unlike Baum’s WWotW, Maguire’s Elphaba retains vision in both eyes, and inherits her film counterpart's scrying abilities (primarily using a blown-glass orb).
- Baum’s WWotW importantly carries an umbrella, not a broomstick, as a source of protection for her aquaphobia. She has no need for transportation, her location is limited to her castle in the West of Oz. MGM’s script, howvever, gave Hamilton’s Witch a means of transportation that had long been popular in witch mythology, a broomstick, involving her more directly in the narrative (as well as giving the Wizard a macguffin to send Dorothy after). Maguire also chose to make a broomstick a means of travel for Elphaba, and Stephen Schwartz's “Defying Gravity”, the centerpiece of the musical, which sees a scene not included in the novel, where Elphaba defiantly flies over the Emerald City in protest of the Wizard, cemented the broom’s icon status within the framework of the Wicked franchise.
- The Flying Monkeys in Baum’s novel have a rich backstory involving their enslavement at the hands of a sorceress named Gaylette. The monkeys’ terms of imprisonment require they obey three commands given by whomever possess a Golden Cap, which the WWotW owns and uses to capture Dorothy and her friends. Dorothy comes into possession of the Golden Cap after WWotW’s demise (similar to her inheriting the slippers) and is able to command the monkeys to her own benefit later in the book. The Golden Cap subplot was scrapped from the MGM film in favor of giving the witch a more ambiguous command over her uniformed simian air force (though it still appears in the final cut as a prop tossed by Hamilton's Witch to Nikko, the flying monkey). Maguire’s Wicked makes no mention of Baum’s golden cap, giving Elphaba a monkey factotum -- who cannot speak similar to MGM’s Nikko (In Baum's Oz all animals can speak perfectly, including the leader of the Winged Monkeys... more on that below) -- now called Chistrey. The monkeys are given a vivisection backstory in Maguire's novel and are a result of the Grimmerie’s levitation spell in the musical, but Elphaba’s willful command of the their legions, without the limitations of the Golden Cap, is much more reminiscent of MGM’s Witch than Baum’s.
- Famously the slippers Dorothy inherits from the WWotE in Baum’s novel are made of silver metal (sterling silver shoes were popular as decorations and sugar bowls in Baum's day). The Slippers in the 1939 film were famously changed to ruby, so as to be more eye-catching against the technicolor yellow road. After some initial designs, MGM designer Adrian landed on the iconic red sequined pump seen in the film. in Maguire's work he is very careful not to make the famous slippers silver or ruby, and instead they are made of beaded glass, which has sentimental value to Elphaba's family, and utilizes the film’s sibling backstory to motivate Elphaba. The beaded glass slippers, in the musical referred to as "jeweled", refract multiple colors, notably a fiery red glow, again skirting copyright while paying homage to both the ruby slippers and silver of the Baum book. Susan Hilferty’s choice of silver sequined pumps for the musical, given a red special lighting cue at a crucial moment, distinctly resemble Adrian’s 1939 design.
- Dorothy is a young child of roughly seven or eight years old in Baum’s novel and its illustrations. In Maguire’s take on the character she is depicted as a husky teenager prone to cloying musical outbursts. Teenage Judy Garland was famously derided at MGM for her weight, especially filming Oz, with Louis Mayor allegedly calling her his “little hunchback”.
- Animals in Oz in Baum’s text are all Imbued with the power of speech. Toto himself is able to speak in the land of Oz (revealed in the fifth Baum book), as well as a myriad animals from our world who travel to the Land of Oz, who all gain sentience upon entering the fairy land. In the 1939 film, the Lion is the only animal that appears capable of speech, while other animals that appear, like Toto, birds, horses, cats and monkeys, are all incapable of human vocal communication. Maguire’s text relies heavily on the implication only some Animals (signified by capitalization of the word) in Oz can talk, their subjugation by the Wizard playing huge role in the plot of both Maguire’s book and the musical adaption.
- While sharing some similarities with Baum's Oz geography, 1939 film has a distinct layout for their Oz which is covered in great detail in very few lines of dialogue. In Munchkinland Glinda says "That was her sister--the Wicked Witch of the East. This is the Wicked Witch of the West. And she's worse than the other one." That establishes Munchkinland in the East of Oz, later we can place the Wicked Witch's castle in the West, with the Emerald City presumably in the center of Oz, while Glinda is from an unspecified "North". Funnily enough, those areas of Oz featured in the 1939 film are the same areas of Oz Maguire’s Wicked novel primarily deals with, namely Munchkinland (Nest Hardings), Emerald City, and the West (Kiamo Ko) and North of Oz (Shiz). Maguire also eschews Baum’s Glinda’s native Quadling Country in the south of Oz in favor of time spent in the North (the one land of Oz we never visit in Baum's first book). Maguire's Quadling Country (a backwater quagmire) shares none the colorful geography of Baum's Quadling Country -- which in WWoOZ is full of porcelain towns, jungles, mountains, and Glinda's majestic palace.
- Boq, a character indeed invented by Baum, plays a much less significant part of the novel Wicked than he does in the musical (in the musical he is composite of several novel characters), and his function in the novel the WWoOZ is very similar to that of the Munchkins featured in the 1939 film (he hosts a party celebrating the East Witch's death that Dorothy attends while staying at his home overnight on her journey down the Yellow Brick Road). He and the subplot featuring the Tin Woodman's backstory appear as trivial vignettes with little actual influence over Elphaba’s overall character arch in both the novel and musical.
- And while the inclusion of Elphaba using wolves, crows and bees to attack Dorothy and her friends is a point in Maguire's favor (but only applies to the novel, not the musical) it also has little significance over the elements from Baum’s book he leaves out in favor of the 1939 film’s continuity of a broom-riding, green-skinned witch after her sister’s collateral inheritance. And let us not forget that 1939's Witch also uses bees as a threat..
- But what I find most telling is that none of the witches in Baum’s novel directly interact with one another (later novels in the Oz series withstanding). The famous confrontation between the two witches in Munchkinland was entirely a fabrication of the 1939 film’s screenwriters. The musical’s entire premise, and a large portion of the novel’s, relies on the idea that these two opposing witches shared some past which informs their conflict in that scene, but that moment is solely a product of the 1939 film.
I think it is very important to view Wicked (especially the musical) as intended... as a revisionist adaption of, and prequel, to the 1939 film (and not Baum's book). In
Wicked, Dorothy's journey of self discovery -- finding wisdom, love, and courage through community and questioning authority -- is subverted through Elphaba's journey -- where wisdom, love, and courage come at great personal cost, and questioning authority means also becoming a target of that authority's wrath. Whereas Dorothy returns home in the end, Elphaba must go into exile in the musical (and she is ding dong dead in the book).
By the end of the 1939 film Dorothy is literally transformed -- excellently visually expressed through her full glamour makeover - curtesy of the Wizard's employees - and adornment in her fallen enemy's fabulous footwear. The 1939 narrative in psychoanalytic terms is one of adolescent Dorothy being chided and ignored in Kansas -- she is without the protection of the adults around her, and therefore subjected to trauma at the hands of threatening Older Female and left vulnerable to the advances of a dubiously intentioned Conman. She learns the importance of embracing the power of appearances ("Are you a good witch or bad witch?.... only Bad witches are ugly.") therefore earning the protection of the adults who once ignored her. In turn she is able to utilize traits inherited from those adults to finally assume assume her full power, vanquishing the Older Female threat and rendering the Conman impotent.
Elphaba and Glinda similarly grow from children ignored -- Elphaba subject to rejection and bullying without the protection of her family or peers, and therefore vulnerable to machinations of a threatening Older Female and the advances of a dubiously intentioned Conman. She then learns the power of embracing appearances ("pink goes good with green") but, this being a subversion of the Oz narrative we see that in embracing her unconventional appearance (the skin she was born in and an outfit literally designed by Glinda) she further alienates herself from protection. While Glinda's journey of superficial beauty equating to goodness, also subjects her to persecution from the Older Female and Conman.
Through traits inherited from one another, and their enemies -- Elphaba uses the Wizard's methodology of deception and flim-flam to fake her death and win her freedom, while Glinda quite literally uses Morrible's own words against her in her defeat -- they are both able to assume full power vanquishing the Older Female threat and rendering the Conman impotent.
In the musical's Finale, a reprise of both "For Good" and "No One Mourns the Wicked", we have been made the whole show to ask ourselves the question "was she a good witch or a bad witch?" Then the audience watches a well intentioned, but woefully incompetent leader, ascend to power under the monicker "Glinda the Good" while the arguably more qualified person has their "death" celebrated, only to be mourned in secret.
The line, "who can say if I have been changed for the better, but because I knew you I have been changed for good" ties together the the concept of metaphorically wearing the traits of those we've known and encountered, loved ones and enemies alike. Like a well worn hat or pair of ruby slippers, we cloth ourselves in the intelligence, love, courage, and even the wickedness and deception of those we encounter.
Wicked tends to suggest truth is subjective. Goodness or wickedness, beauty and ugliness, whether someone is a "traitor or liberator, thief or philanthropist" is all subjective. The Wizard's malleable grip on truth ("Elphaba, where I'm from we believe all sorts of things that aren't true we call it history!") is ultimately inherited by Elphaba and Fiyero in the end ("It's not lying! It's looking at things another way") as well as Glinda ("Good news!"). Much like Dorothy's journey leaves her with the knowledge that her heart's desires lie in her own self fulfillment, Elphaba and Glinda are left knowing that their potential, good or bad, has always been theirs to posses.
Maguire used something called "
fair use doctrine", technically publishing Wicked as a parody (which does not always mean a comical work). It was well within his legal right to do so. The musical tiptoes the lines he walked a little more, but ultimately Wicked being "legally distinct" from the 1939 -- but still using more elements from that movie than the public domain book -- is still a legal use of the characters. However, I think the way Maguire skirted copyright is incredibly clever, and I find it wild that such a popular franchise as
Wicked has basically used legal gray areas to bring a rainbow of color to Oz, all while claiming use of public domain versions of characters, and clearly mining the trademarked versions of those characters for most of their inspiration.
Various Oz media has used elements of the 1939 film without voiding copyright. For example the 1982 anime film has red slippers, and 1972's Journey Back to Oz features a green skinned witch Mombi. And the 1939 film itself borrowed elements from numerous previous adaptations of the Oz story from
silent and
animated films to
stage plays). The history of Oz is always evolving with each new iteration and how the story was told one hundred years ago isn't always going to be how we tell it in the future.
Just know, how anyone chooses to interpret the "canon" of Oz, or relate to any specific piece of media -- for example finding continuity between various adaptations, etc. -- is entirely up to them. Oz is a place that supports diversity, creativity, and inclusion! But
if you're gonna be a witch, a green one is a good one to be!
TLDR: Wicked does not function as a prequel to the book by L. Frank Baum, but only serves as a prequel to the 1939 film, starring Judy Garland. This is evident because the Witch in Baum's book isn't green, doesn't ride a broom, only has one eye, no sister, and never interacts with Glinda (who is an amalgamation of two separate characters). submitted by

As a dedicated hunter, I've been using this Columbia Men's Trophy Rack Silent Rain Jacket for over a year now, and it's definitely made a difference in my hunting expeditions. One feature that stands out is the adjustable hood, hem, and cuffs, which provide excellent protection from the elements while still allowing me to customize the fit according to my needs. The underarm venting is also a godsend when the weather heats up, ensuring I stay comfortable even on longer hunts. However, as with any product, there are some downsides. Its breathability rating could be better, as some users found it hard to maintain a comfortable temperature during extended periods of sweating. The fabric may not be as quiet as some other options on the market, though it's more than adequate for general hunting use. Despite these minor drawbacks, I would highly recommend the Columbia Trophy Rack Silent Rain Jacket to anyone looking for a reliable, feature-rich hunting jacket that can withstand the toughest weather conditions. It's truly a game-changer in my book! https://preview.redd.it/18yre6pvo32d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=200ab03a4640d0b3d022973d3f7a2bb3a768c6d1 I recently got the chance to wear the Columbia Men's Roaring Fork Down Jacket, and I have to say, it's become my go-to outer layer for winter. The moment you slip it on, you can immediately feel the warmth from the 550 fill power down insulation. Plus, the helmet-compatible hood and underarm venting are perfect for those long days on the slopes. One thing that really stood out to me was the overall craftsmanship. The seams are well-stitched, and the waterproof-breathable outer shell has held up against even the toughest weather conditions. However, I did notice that the sizing tends to run a bit large, so keep that in mind when making your purchase. Another highlight worth mentioning is the Omni-Heat Infinity advanced thermal reflective fabric. This technology uses silver dots to reflect and retain body heat, making this jacket feel even warmer than it looks. Although it's a bit heavier than some other jackets I've tried, I appreciate the added warmth on those really cold days. Overall, I'm thrilled with my Columbia Roaring Fork Down Jacket. It's kept me cozy and dry through countless winter adventures, and I know I'll be wearing it for years to come. If you're in the market for a new winter jacket, I highly recommend giving this one a try! https://preview.redd.it/bhj8mf4wo32d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7bcd7fe40e03d6a5035c42318a7cd120da9d4a25 I've been using the Columbia Men's Ptarmigan Interchange Parka for quite some time now, and boy, has it made a difference in my hunting experiences! This interchangeable jacket has truly made my life easier. The versatility of being able to adjust the layers according to the weather conditions is just brilliant. The Omni-Shield technology really stands out here. It's like having a personal shield against liquid absorption, making it easy to keep the jacket stain-free. And, of course, that stain resistance is super important during hunting trips! Not to mention, the cargo pockets provide ample space for all my belongings. I used to struggle with keeping myself warm during those cold hunts, but not anymore. The fleece material in this parka has been an absolute lifesaver when it comes to retaining heat during harsh weather conditions. I didn't need to wear bulky layers and worry about the movement restrictions. The Ptarmigan Jacket gives me the flexibility and freedom without compromising on warmth. However, not everything is perfect. The only minor inconvenience I faced was with the birds in the game bag. Getting them in and out can be a little challenging at times, which could be improved upon. All in all, I am thrilled with this men's hunting jacket. It's well-made, offers great weather protection, and provides a comfortable fit during long hunts. If you're looking for a durable and functional hunting jacket, look no further than the Columbia Men's Ptarmigan Interchange Parka! https://preview.redd.it/xbxnewhwo32d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=43e43507fc6406f31c317370963c8877ab365c1c I recently purchased the Columbia Men's Northern Utilizer Jacket in Small - Delta and have been using it for several weeks now. This jacket has quickly become a staple in my wardrobe, especially during these unpredictable spring months. The first thing that caught my attention about this jacket was its water-resistant fabric. Living in an area with frequent rain showers, I was pleasantly surprised to find that this jacket kept me dry even in a light drizzle. The polyester lining also adds an extra layer of warmth, making it perfect for cooler mornings or evenings. One feature I really appreciate is the zipper closure. It's not only secure but also easy to use, even with one hand. Additionally, the machine-washable aspect of this jacket makes it incredibly convenient for everyday wear. However, there are a couple of downsides to this jacket. The lack of elastic on the sides can cause discomfort if the waist area feels tight. Additionally, the sleeves don't have a quilted fabric, which can make putting them on a bit challenging at times. Despite these minor issues, the Columbia Men's Northern Utilizer Jacket has proven itself to be a reliable and stylish choice. Its durability, water resistance, and warmth make it a must-have for anyone who wants to stay protected from the elements while looking good. https://preview.redd.it/lllip2zwo32d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=574e13d1b0119aa549b02ffd6d58e934458ab142 I've been using the Columbia Men's PHG Fleece Overlay 1/4 Zip for a while now, and I must say, it's a game-changer in my wardrobe. This fleece is perfect for those chilly mornings when you need an extra layer to keep you warm without feeling bulky. The zipper closure and adjustable hem make it incredibly comfortable and versatile. One of the standout features of this fleece is its design. The 250g fleece is soft and warm, while the water-resistant camo overlay adds both style and practicality. The zippered hand pockets are a nice touch, as well. However, one small issue I encountered was that the fleece material feels a bit thin. It's not necessarily a deal-breaker, but I would've appreciated a slightly thicker fabric for added warmth on extremely cold days. Overall, I highly recommend the Columbia Men's PHG Fleece Overlay 1/4 Zip for anyone who wants a stylish, comfortable, and versatile fleece to add to their wardrobe. It's perfect for those transitioning weather days when you need an extra layer to keep you warm. So, if you're in the market for a new fleece, this is definitely worth checking out! https://preview.redd.it/y9ricn5xo32d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0327351a1feefcbe0a060802ea2bd418e83d1400 I'll be honest - I'm no extreme outdoorsman, but I do enjoy a good hike. Recently, I went on a camping trip and needed something that would keep me warm and dry. Enter the Columbia Men's Silver Falls Jacket. It's not only functional but also stylish. The first thing that stood out to me was how light it was. I could easily fold it up and stuff it into its own pocket, making it perfect for packing without taking up much space. Plus, the active fit means it moves with me, whether I'm climbing a trail or chopping wood by the campfire. One feature that impressed me was the insulation made from 100% recycled polyester. Not only was I staying warm and cozy, but I could also feel good about doing my part for the environment. Another highlight was the extended sizing options, making it suitable for everyone. However, there are some cons to consider. The hood can sometimes be a bit big, and it might not fit perfectly under a helmet or a hat. And while the waterproofing does its job, it's not quite as effective in heavy rain. In short, if you're looking for a jacket that combines functionality with sustainability, the Columbia Men's Silver Falls Jacket could be just what you need. It's perfect for hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities, making it a reliable companion on any adventure. https://preview.redd.it/dz50fekxo32d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d25513a193975a2943fb4f85bc6899e7c0baab0c I've been using the Columbia Men's Cedar Cliff Insulated Jacket for quite some time now, and I must say it's been quite the companion during those chilly days. The adjustable hood is a game-changer, ensuring that I remain dry and cozy even during heavy downpours. The zippered hand pockets add an extra layer of security for my belongings while the elastic cuffs keep my wrists snug and warm. One feature that I absolutely adore is the lightweight yet insulated nature of the jacket. This means I can comfortably layer up during extremely cold days without feeling bulky or encumbered. Additionally, the distinctive olive shell and vibrant orange inner lining make a bold statement, garnering compliments from everyone who sees it. However, there are a few minor issues. Some users have pointed out that the outer material is quite thin, making the jacket less durable than expected. Moreover, the arm bulkiness can be inconvenient for some people. Nevertheless, these cons do not outweigh the numerous benefits offered by this fantastic jacket. In conclusion, the Columbia Men's Cedar Cliff Insulated Jacket has been a trusty ally during my daily escapades. Its blend of style, insulation, and flexibility makes it a must-have for anyone seeking a reliable winter companion. https://preview.redd.it/9uqjqu0yo32d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=944df01aabe44bb7737367b3c011d605c7a1bca8 I recently purchased a Columbia Men's PHG Ascender Softshell Jacket in black, and I have to say, it's been a game-changer for me. First off, the quality is top-notch. This jacket is crafted from fleece fabric, which ensures it keeps me warm during those chilly morning walks or camping trips. One of the standout features for me is its water resistance. The Omni-Shield technology means that even when a sudden rain shower catches me off guard, I don't have to worry about getting soaked. Plus, the adjustable hem and cuffs help trap heat inside, keeping my body temperature stable. However, as much as I love this jacket, I did find one minor flaw. The sleeves seem slightly longer than necessary, causing them to bunch up when I'm not wearing thick layers underneath. But this issue is pretty minor considering how well this jacket performs overall. I've been using my Columbia PHG Ascender Softshell Jacket regularly now, and it's become my go-to outerwear choice. If you're looking for a warm, water-resistant, and stylish jacket that won't break the bank, this is definitely worth considering. https://preview.redd.it/n1nlz4ayo32d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=905fb83b2a6edede196fae866d1a9927afd98814 When I first got my hands on the Columbia Men's Cedar Cliff Insulated Jacket, I was excited to see how it would fare in the unpredictable weather we often experience. Right off the bat, I appreciated the waterproof and breathable design, which has been a lifesaver during sudden rainstorms. The lightweight fabric is easily wearable without feeling too bulky, and the zippered hand pockets have been a game-changer for keeping my essentials dry. One of my favorite features of this jacket is the adjustable toggle closure, which allows me to customize the fit for proper coverage during those blustery days. I must say, however, that I was a bit disappointed with the lack of extra pockets. The sleeves could also use some adjustment straps, especially for those who struggle with finding the perfect fit in jackets. Despite these minor drawbacks, I have found this jacket to be a reliable piece of outerwear that offers ample warmth and protection from the elements. In summary, the Columbia Men's Cedar Cliff Insulated Jacket has proven to be a dependable ally on my outdoor adventures. Its craftsmanship, combined with the ability to customize its fit, make it a standout choice for anyone seeking a comfortable and functional jacket for varying weather conditions. https://preview.redd.it/m7o446myo32d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f1c8a83d97f8c674f681fe0412efe7465f108b3 I've been wearing this Columbia Men's PHG Camo Fleece Hunting Jacket for a few weeks now, and I must say, it's been a game changer. The soft fabric is incredibly comfortable, even during hours of sitting in the stand or moving around the woods. The regular fit feels just right - not too tight, not too loose - perfect for those long days of hunting. One feature that stood out to me is the warmth provided by the 250g 100% polyester anti-pilling microfleece. Whether worn as an outer layer on milder days or layered with other clothing for those frosty mornings, this jacket keeps me cozy all day. The front zipper pockets are a great addition, providing secure storage for essentials like my phone and calls. However, there have been some minor issues that have come up. The hoodless design means I need to layer up with a hat during particularly cold days. And while the "BUILT FOR THE HUNT" tagline does inspire confidence in its performance capabilities, time will tell whether it truly stands up to the rigors of consistent use. Overall, I'm thoroughly impressed with my Columbia PHG Camo Fleece Hunting Jacket. The combination of comfort, warmth, and style makes it an ideal choice for any hunter. Despite the cons, its pros greatly outweigh them, making it a jacket worth considering for anyone looking to stay warm and protected while enjoying their time outdoors. 2024.05.23 05:14 IcyIndependence2526 A theory that gives way to new ideas hopefully.
https://preview.redd.it/fnkltybnf32d1.png?width=800&format=png&auto=webp&s=85e7b9b0dbd41f7d345a9cf8018f2e2b9e362d6f I've tried to post this theory so many times. This theory was made before the spoilers. It was made before the Kendrick Lamar and drake beef. Please excuse my grammar I wrote this theory several times changing many things and going back into the draft to add many ideas. I added one detail then realized if I kept adding stuff I'd have to write a fanfic at this point. The theory isn't about getting it right It's about the romance that breeds curiosity and new concepts that will hopefully be explained later. Thank you.
I think the sea devil was the creator of devil fruits and they were in the ancient kingdom. The ancient kingdom was evil they created the ancient weapons but could only use Uranus. The species like: Fishmen, Lunarians, Buccaneers, Giants, Winged Human, Giant Elephants, and Etc were used by the ancient kingdom to oppress the 20 Kingdoms. Pirates of the one-piece world were established from ancient or recent history just like in our world, so the oppressed people in the 20 kingdoms became like pirates. Not all became pirates just some, but that impressed Joy boy or Nika because Nika is his actual name or maybe it's Binks? Anyways Binks or Nika wanted to venture out to the seas to join the pirates and the kingdoms, but the ancient kingdom were like the celestial dragons so once you leave the noble status behind you can't rejoin. As punishment for him leaving they turned him into rubber believing it was a cruel joke and a good punishment for him, but it impowered him. He began to play jokes on the ancient kingdom his antics reached the lives of many around the world.
His power transformed islands just like long ring long land, he freed the oppressed, and he told the secrets of the ancient kingdom to the people because without his influence they would have stayed a non-advanced kingdom so they could compete with the ancient kingdom somewhat. Haki was introduced to people's lives, and it gave them power to believe in themselves to change the world and become free from tyranny in a world that these "Humans" Could live in. They became stronger and their numbers were Colossal, but something began to change, something that the ancient kingdom could never account for. The same "Creatures" the ancient kingdom used to oppress the people began to want a will of their own. Joy Boy introduced this to them, and that changed Everything. Zuniesha, The Giants, The Mink Tribe, The Lunarians, and Etc began to turn on the ancient kingdom. The Invincible Enormous Brilliant Ancient Kingdom was losing a war that a rejected joke of a rubbery man started then turned the tides against them using laughter, hope, love, and will for a better tomorrow. The ancient kingdom began using the weapons but wait one of the weapons didn't respond. Poseidon now had a will of their own and they wanted to be free, so they helped Joy Boy, but the ancient kingdom still had Pluton, and Uranus. The weapons were a real problem Joy Boy had to think fast so he had a certain clan build the Ark for not just humans, but for all the species that don't survive underwater like the fishmen. Joy Boy told his comrades about the weapons and that helped them identify the weapons. During the war one clan was so wreck less they managed to pull off a huge heist. The Kozuki Clan managed to steal Pluton before it could cause huge damage to the world, they took it off the battlefield and returned to the allied kingdoms.
Uranus was used during the war and was a death sentence to unsuspecting parts of world it decimated continents leaving remnants behind. With only one of the ancient weapons in use Joy Boy and his allies had to confront the person using it, and that was the SEA DEVIL. Joy Boy and Saint Nerona Imu confronted the Sea Devil, but something was off about him. It seemed like he was different from regular humans it looked like he hasn't slept in a long time, and his body appeared weird. The Sea Devil took damage from both combatants, and even though it damaged the sea devil they kept fighting until it was revealed that it was the Sea Devil that gave Binks or Nika the Rubbery powers. The Sea Devil began using their Powers. The two barely beat the Sea Devil through their own will they managed to defeat The Sea Devil, but The Sea Devil had a plan. If the ancient kingdom were to ever fall, they would rather sink into the bottom of ocean selfishly keeping their treasure than to give it to the rest of world and with that The Sea Devil began to use Uranus to destroy the ancient kingdom. With that Joy Boy and Saint Nerona Imu escaped and the Sea Devil was cast to the bottom of the ocean selfishly keeping their treasure. Parts of ancient kingdom was cast to the depths of the ocean, but some parts of it floated above still. The war was over, and people had to do some Greving. After the war Nika or Binks was exhausted forever from that war. Nika or Binks had been given the name Joy Boy, and he was recognized across the world. In light of the tragedy that occurred Joy Boy proposed something. He said, "LETS THROW A PARTY!" His allies rejoiced and they had fun. The species that the ancient kingdom created had nowhere to go and now had a will of their own. They came to Joy Boy and wanted to know what to do, and Joy Boy said do what you want.
The Created Species began to occupy different islands, and they created their own kingdoms, and cultures, but they had the knowledge of the ancient kingdom with them still. The 20 Kingdoms didn't realize that Joy Boy had supported the created species in the past so that fueled their anger. The 20 Kingdoms history with the ancient kingdom was embarrassing, and now the one man that gave them hope is the same man who helped the creatures. The same creatures that oppressed them? The kingdoms began to plot a plan against Joy Boy and all that oppressed them. The kingdoms found that there was a castle was found in the middle of the ocean a massive castle. They began to go inside, and they learned that it was from the ancient kingdom. The castle held untold knowledge, but the text was unreadable to them. They enlisted the help of ancient kingdom remnants, and the kingdoms learned the language. They learned some of their technology, about the history of the world, the creation of the species, the Eve tree, and some taboo methods, and etc. Most of all they learned that there was a devil fruit index containing information of all devil fruits and their functions, also they learned that devil fruits recycle after the user dies, but they also learn the weakness of it. The information is handed down to Imu. The Kozuki Clan learns the language, and the information inside the castle. They also learn about the ancient weapons, and how to use them. The 20 Kingdoms began to use the Castle as their place of importance, then they began to have a discussion on how they're going to betray Binks this includes Lily and the Kozuki clan members. The idea of becoming a world government is introduced and they plan to go along with it, but Binks is all that stands in the way. Lili sneaks away with the information, and contacts Binks and his crew to tell them about the betrayal. Binks unafraid challenges the world to a fight. Binks and his crew go around the world adventuring and meets new people and establishes a bond with people as well, one of those is Poseidon. Binks and his crew are welcomed in Poseidon's kingdom. Binks explores the kingdom. Binks meets a woman who can fortune tell like madam Sharley. He's amazed so he asked her about the future, and she says in 800 you'll return. He laughs and thanks her. Poseidon and Binks talk as he tells Poseidon that he's going to be betrayed, but he promises that he'll win, and when Poseidon comes up to see the sun it'll be Binks and his crew welcoming them. During or after this period in time the 20 Kingdoms have the first reverie before they become the world government. At the Reverie Imu goes into detail about how they are going to defeat Binks, and that is with Uranus.
Imu wants to cleanse the earth of their history and those who oppressed them, but some of the kingdom reject the idea not because of good morale value, but because they can be used. Imu hears them out and allows them that usage. Lili is present there also, and she's scared because Uranus caused huge problems to the world like making the sea level rise, not only that but, although the ancient kingdom oppressed them, she doesn't want to destroy all of the created species. A specific sea monster cat she and her kingdom has taken a liking to. So, she sneaks away once again, and tells Binks what is about to happen. Binks is horrified that Imu would use Uranus after what they saw the ancient kingdom do. He then thinks that The Noah needs to be used again. Poseidon asks Binks if they could do anything, and He responds that they could help deliver the Noah for it needed to be used again, so Poseidon orders the sea to bring the Noah to the fishman Kingdom. Binks tells Poseidon that when the time is right Binks will count on Poseidon to bring the Noah back up to surface to save the people that no longer have a home to return to, and Poseidon says they'll wait for Binks's word. Binks wants to play a prank on the 20 kingdoms now. Binks and his crew play prank after prank on the 20 kingdoms. Binks and his crew travel across the world building allies. A specific Giant asks the Kozuki clan to craft a sword for them. That sword would be named the Kietsu. Binks then told the Kozuki the history of world, the function/history of the weapons, and the and told them to write it and spread it across the world. While that was happening a clan in Wano decided to betray Binks and the kozuki clan, and that clan was the kurozumi clan. They leaked the information to the 20 kingdoms. Imu then tasked Lili to stop them. The sea monsters, the sky people, The Mink tribe and etc all helped deliver the Poneglyffs. During this time, they created the song binks sake. Binks and his crew personally want to deliver the Poneglyff to Lili. They sailed all the way to her kingdom but was met with a military obstacle. They were conflicted because to them Binks was Joy Boy the one who freed them. Joy Boy bulldozed his way through the army because their will wavered, and he met with Lili with tears in her eyes. They talked and Joy Boy successfully delivered the Poneglyff to her kingdom. Binks and his crew traveled the seas also delivering poneglyffs until they came across a remnant of the ancient kingdom. a remnant that shouldn't exist but here it is. He delivered his tale about the truth of the world and told his tales across the seas as a pirate. His message was kept there. He and his crew prepared for war. The 20 Kingdoms did the same. Joy Boy and his allies traveled to the Castle to stop the 20 Kingdoms from Using Uranus. Imu meets him on seas and told him challenging them is like challenging the world. The war began as Joy Boy said he wasn't afraid, and He screams at the top of his lungs "BRING IT ON" His hearted pumped and produced the sound of war.
The battle was fierce each side losing members, but the 20 kingdoms still had numbers, despite that the Joy Boy alliance was still putting up a fight and if it wasn't stopped the 20 kingdoms would lose. Imu then started to use Uranus recklessly, it took out his allies and Joy Boys. The war came down to wire and despite all odds Joy Boy was going to win, but he got exhausted. He used up his life during the war, and the Joy Boy alliance and the 20 Kingdoms watched as Joy Boy was dying. Imu came to Joy Boy as he was dying. Joy Boy laughed and got back up his heart beating like a drum he awakened, and in a scene like from the one-piece movie film Z he gets back up and fights Imu and the 20 Kingdom while laughing and smiling giving some of his allies' time to escape while some of his crew stayed. In the end the 20 Kingdom crying watched him lose his distinctive look and he lost all energy and started to die. Imu bloodied once again appeared to Joy Boy thinking about their past together sharing moments and fighting against the ancient kingdom and the sea devil together. Imu closed their eyes and walked away and said goodbye Joy Boy it was fun while Joy Boy lied there smiling as wide as the sky. After the war the 20 Kingdoms established the world government. They go around enslaving people and cover up the history of their embarrassing past. They enslaved the giants that helped Joy Boy and make them Pull continents together. This creates the Grand Line. A specific giant with the kietsu named Oars was forced to do this. It took nearly their entire lifetime, but they do it. Not wanting to be a slave anymore they revolt and managed to flee. but Oars is hurt. They hunt him down, but he makes it back to Wano where he begins to die from his injuries while remembering Joy Boy he smiles and then dies. The Tontatta's are enslaved by doflamingo's ancestor. Zuniesha who aided Joy Boy is forced to roam the earth forever because he aided Joy Boy. Lili is soon found out to have helped Joy Boy and before she disappears, she delivers a message that Joy Boy gave her. The ancient Robot who helped Joy Boy soon shuts down because he no long has the will to carry on without the one who gave him freedom. Wano keeps Pluton hidden from the world government and creates a border between them and the world. The sky people leave earth and go to the moon with ancient kingdom technology balloons while crying because the world government rejected them. They write about the ancient weapons and what they did to the world. They long to return one day when they can put their feet back on the soil. The Giants remember Joy Boy and tell his tale whenever they can. Etc Etc Etc Etc You Get the point now. I'd been thinking of this theory for a while. I had to choose between this one and two others. One where Loki is Usopp and he has belief powers not lying powers, also another one that Luffy is literally Joy Boy from the same void century. But it takes so long to write these. The point of my theory is to hopefully provide a new idea to the Era just before the Void Century.

2024.05.23 05:08 p1anit Looking for Advice: When to say it's enough....
***Apologies ahead of time for the lengthy read...
Hi All - I am looking for some advice/thoughts on what I should do given my current work situation. A little bit about myself I am a 38m Advertising/Marketing creative professional who has been in the industry for over 15 years now. Started in the NY ad world and grinded it out there working for big consumer brands, winning awards and spending most of my days and nights working on pitches or on set. Then my wife and I had our daughter and of course just like any sane person (hopefully) I didn't want to work 80-90 weeks anymore out of a broom closet (literally).
Since then I have been working for smaller agencies/marketing firms in senioexecutive level positions helping these organizations grow their internal creative departments based on business needs and bring in new clients.
When the pandemic hit I was working remotely for a communications agency doing what I stated above, but after 2 1/2 years I felt like I hit a ceiling both creatively and professionally and decided to move on. Fast forward to where I am now. I currently work for a global non-profit (remotely) managing the creative team (around 12 people) as part of our "marketing and communications" department.
Before I started there was the usual selling point of "carving my own path" and "getting out what I put in" deal, IE "everyday there will be something dysfunctional and new" and "do good work, get rewarded with even more work". Which okay that's fine every company has different selling points on how they try to get you to work there and I also have heard stories about wearing many many different hats especially with a non-profit environment, so I knew what I was signing up for. I also took a pay cut and title reduction because I wanted to try something new and really felt that there was room to grow. At the end of the day I was more concerned about being a good manager for my team, creating better processes, innovate where we could, and create a higher standard/quality of work that everyone could be proud of and really push the organization forward.
Everything started out normal as any new job does. Everyone is nice to you, everyone seems competent in their roles and everything seems to be working as it should. Well for anyone who has been 3+ years of general work experience in any environment knows that after a couple of months that honeymoon period starts to wear off and you start to see the cracks in the sidewalk.
This is where my story starts (told ya it was going to be a long one). The first couple of months I do what I do at every job and kind of go on a listening tour with my team and other people within the company to get a sense of where everyone's priorities were and get better context to what happened previous to me coming in. While I was doing this my boss seemed competent enough at the time to understand the things that I was telling her that needed to get fixed/updated, where the challenges were and how we were going to move past them.
To start I put together a couple of decks that consisted of a new department structure/recommendation, SOP (standard operating procedures) + Process document, and even an annual plan for the rest of the FY with a roadmap of all of the tactics, initiatives and tent pole moments that we would be heavily involved in from the marketing/creative side. She seemed receptive to many of the ideas and was happy that I knew what I was talking about so she took the documents and we didn't really speak about them for the next couple of months. Over those few months there were new projects/initiatives coming in that were piling up for the team, so I took it upon myself (while still reminding her that I needed some form of approval) to just implement the changes I recommended.
Fast FWD 8 months, the team is knee deep in projects (more projects than we have ever had because everyone internally were using outside vendors, because they originally did not want work with our department/my boss). Everyone on the creative team was happy with how projects were being executed, they felt empowered by letting them try new things they weren't able to do before and everyone actually feels like there was some semblance of order to how we do the work and ultimately our internal stakeholders who are requesting these projects were very happy with the results/outcomes.
During those 8 months, the conversations around projects and all of the documentation I provided originally was pushed off, my boss rarely ever came to status calls, kick off calls or even just meetings that we both should have been in attendance for. It literally felt like she just took an 8 month vacation and when she checked in with me, she would not ask me what's the status of jobs a, b and c. She was always frame the questions as "if someone asked you this, what would you say?" or "what are your thoughts about doing this, and how would you execute that?".
It got to the point where I had to have multiple conversations with her to say "I don't feel like I am getting the support I need and your other direct report is also radio silent I need you to talk to her so we can actually work together as a team". Well after about 6-8x of having this conversation I went to her boss and had a 2 hour conversation with him about how she has been MIA for the last 8 months+, I have been doing her job and her other direct report is also non responsive (which I will get to some more background context later on both of them).
He said I hear you and will do something about it. After I had that conversation with him, my boss immediately asks for a 1:1 and essentially says to be if I go to her boss again about these things I said that it would be "a different conversation", mind you I also told her on that call AGAIN everything she was NOT doing and gave definitive answers and showed the receipts of everything I was doing to carry the department.
After that conversation happened my life has been a living hell. For the past 5-6months she has been documenting every conversation we have had together (which I have as well), overstepping and bottle necking every projects myself and my team are working on, and undermining me around every corner on full team calls.
Since I had that last conversation with her boss I have had multiple conversations with him and HR and other executive team members about her behavior, her lack of professionalism and tbh her lack of knowledge/skill to even do her job.
I have tried multiple times to come to the table with viable solutions like just splitting us off of the department so we can operate solo, among other options - and it even got to the point where exec team members have asked me do we even need her, and I have said "no". They're very aware of her past behavior but I do not think to the degree/detail in which I have told them in the last several months.
To give that background context I was talking about earlier - the story goes that she was hired by another really terrible/unskilled leader (who was fired for stealing from the company and just being a terrible person) and it kind of just multiplied like bunnies from there. Before I came into the org no one wanted to work with her or her other direct report that I spoke about earlier, because they were rude, unprofessional and just plain mean. So the department at the time just became a vendor management team essentially. The only reason she has been her for so long is because it's a non profit and it's just too hard to really track the core source of where things come from whether it's good or bad. So she crafted her entire "professional career" off the backs of people below her who ended up leaving because of her and now she's just been able to fly under the radar until now.
Last I heard through the grapevine - a couple of weeks ago there were plans to fire her and move me into her position, but like any organization all changes move at a snails pace. We also recently got a new CEO, and he seems very smart, observant in a no BS kind of way which is good - he has already commented on how we do not have any good marketing in it's current form and something needs to be done.
At this point in time I have built up a great reputation with our internal and external stakeholders, I'd like to think that people enjoy working with me based on the feedback I have heard and everyone is happy with my work product/output and has been mentioned many many times to the exec team and HR without and prompting (from what I hear).
All that to say presently I have resigned myself to just doing the bare minimum because I feel like I am in a damned if I do damned if I don't type of situation - it's very apparent that my boss notices and hears the positive things myself and the team are doing and is already very self conscious about her ability to do her job, so she tries pull me into these "gotcha" moments on team calls and other project meetings to maintain control/power.
At the end of the day it's less about taking her job and getting "promoted" and it's more about my teams mental health, happiness and professional development.
My question to everyone is; do I believe the conversations I have been having and wait and see if something is really going to happen to her? or do I just say F it and really push down the gas on my already active job search? have any of you ever been in this position? it's mentally vexing and I really think if she was gone we'd really be able to do great things and innovate the way we are suppose to for our stakeholders + I really like my team.
Any advice would be helpful and happy to give clarity and answer any questions, thank you!
TL:DR - I started a new job, made some great changes and created some great work, my boss was MIA for 8 months, have been doing her job since then - when she found out I was not happy about it through multiple conversations with her then escalated to her boss after she did not listen - she threatened to fire me, and now I am waiting for my company to do something about her based on my situation + her bad track record/inability to actually do her job.

Killer Grips: Anne Maria, Brick, Jasmine, Justin, Millie
Screaming Gaffers: Chase, Izzy, MK, Ripper, Scott
Episode 9: The Sand Witch Project
"Last time, on Total! Drama! Action! A girl with vision. Vision that took her past everyday thinking. But when the chips were down, and even when the chips came back up again, she was the only one who could rescue them."
"Searching for a cure to the disease that was afflicting her dearest friends, a challenge was won. A cure found."
"But will-" Chris began to munch and crunch on something, though, so the rest of his sentence was completely muddled and unintelligible. The recap footage ended and the shot cut to Chris sitting on the amphitheater bleachers with popcorn at his side.
"Hey, what can I say? Gross disease movies make me crave a little corn!" He picked up his snack and smiled. "But, it's time to put the snacks away, kiddies," he tossed the bag over his shoulder, "because after this totally terrifying episode," the scene cut to a nighttime shot of him walking past a portable toilet near the cast trailers, "there won't be a stomach left unturned!" A horrible growling noise came from inside the toilet that made the host flinch, but he recovered his composure quickly and walked over to a nearby campfire. "Hold on to your buckets. It's time for some Total! Drama! Action!"
(Theme Song)
The episode began with a shot of a soccer ball rolling across the shot and the camera zoomed out to show Jasmine and Justin kicking it back and forth to each other. Brick was also in the background sleeping on a lounge chair.
The camera panned to the right to show Anne Maria, Izzy, MK, Ripper, and Scott playing cards at a picnic table. "Sorry, wimps," Ripper said with a triumphant grin, "but I won this round!" The bully put his cards on the table. "Whose turn is it to deal?"
"Mine," Izzy said, grabbing the cards. “Watch this!” She then did a number of intricate moves to shuffle them, much to her competitors’ amazement.
Confessional: Scott
"Izzy's such a showboat," Scott told the confessional camera. "She's always there to demonstrate how “cool” she is, but can she smash twenty kitchen rats in under a minute? No.”
“I just wish that my team loses the next challenge so we can vote her off, and I know how to handle that if it comes down to the wire,” the farmer said sneakily.
Confessional Ends
The footage cut back with Millie and Chase sitting on the steps of the boys’ trailer, Millie holding a small basket of sandwich wedges.
"I can't believe how many of these were leftover after lunch!" Millie said before tossing one of the sandwiches into her mouth.
“I can't believe you managed to steal these in the first place!” Chase chuckled.
"I can't help it," Millie said giddily. "Egg salad sandwiches are super tasty, and it's not like Chef will notice."
“I clearly taught you well,” Chase said. “You know, it's great to hang out with each other given all the times we've been separated.”
“We still have to manage until the merge, Chase,” Millie reminded her boyfriend. “Things have been crazy though with Trent's jealousy over you and Sky and his challenge throwing.”
“I didn't even know about all that until you told me a few days ago,” Chase said.
“Sky told me all about it, and I didn't have the time to inform you,” Millie admitted.
“I'm still cool with Trent, but if anybody thinks that I'll drop you for another chick, then they don't know a thing about me,” Chase declared. “I'd rather get poison ivy then cheat on you.”
“Your loyalty is one of the reasons why I'm in love with you,” Millie admired before giving Chase a peck on his cheek.
"I wouldn't be Chase without that, Millie!" Chase smiled. "Now watch this!" A fast-paced and hectic tune began as he did a front handspring, landed, then jumped into the air, twirled a few times, and landed in splits. "This is how you speed eat, folks," he said as he did his routine. He stood up from his splits, took out a few sandwiches from his pockets, and tossed his snacks into the air, catching them all with his open mouth. He took a bow after he finished swallowing.
The contestants applauded politely. "Nice one," Anne Maria said. “I've seen monkeys swallow less bananas than we do with these sandwiches."
"Chef's food has gotten so good," Justin said with a mouthful. The sound of loud snoring filled the air and everyone looked over at Brick, the camera zooming in on him as a ripple effect transitioned the scene.
It was a dark and stormy night on the film lot, and a rat scurried by past the craft services tent before lightning flashed and the camera zoomed in on the light coming from the kitchen window. A few jarringly tense notes played as the shot focused on a kitchen knife in Brick's hand before the music softened out and the knife was used to spread egg salad on a slice of bread. Cheese and lettuce were added next, followed by another slice of bread, and Brick was shown looking at the sandwich with a smile on his face – a stack of similar sandwiches was on the counter nearby.
Just then, Chef made his presence known in the background after another flash of lightning and shouted "Lunch!".
Brick squeaked and held his knife out in front of him in an attempt to protect himself, and Chef began to slowly clap his hands in a deadpan manner.
"We need to stop all this cheating," Brick begged. "Being in this alliance is seriously going against everything I stand for as a cadet."
"This is not about right or wrong, son," Chef declared remorselessly. "It's about you and me winning that cool mil."
The footage rippled back to the present.
Brick was still snoring peacefully as the camera panned away from him and back to the picnic table where Millie and Chase had joined most of the others.
"So, what're you guys doing?" Chase asked the card players.
"We don't think there's gonna be a challenge today," Ripper explained, "so we've just been playing cards against each other."
“And it's kinda getting borin’ with Big and Blue winning a majority of our games,” Anne Maria shot a grim look at Ripper.
“It's not my fault I'm better than you all at Go Fish, Rimmy, and the sort,” Ripper scoffed.
“Now I wish there is a challenge,” Izzy grumbled.
“I second that,” Scott nodded.
The background music became tense as the loudspeakers squealed on. "Attention Total Drama victims!" Chris announced dramatically. "Please meet me in the northeast corner of the studio-palooza! Bring lozenges!" he added over a shot of Chase chewing and swallowing one of his sandwiches while looking up. "The screaming is gonna hurt!"
"Wishes do come true," Izzy laughed humorously as she looked at the others around her.
The footage cut to a view of MK and Izzy through a small monitor looking unamused. "We walk all the way out here," the techno girl said, "yet Chris hasn't arrived yet!" The camera pulled out to show that the monitor was part of a larger recording device pointed at the Gaffers, who along with the Grips had assembled at an open-air set in what looked to be the middle of nowhere.
"Maybe he's racked up too much overtime figuring out new ways to torture us," Justin suggested, leaning against a light in the middle of the shot.
As if on cue, a familiar shout came from above that startled the handsome boy. He and the other castmates looked up in time to see none other than the host falling back-first from above, a small square of red just barely visible on the bottom of his shirt. He landed just below the screen with appropriately dramatic music and a burst of something thick and red that splattered the horrified contestants.
The camera cut to a tilted shot of Chris McLean impaled on the same light which Justin had just been leaning up against. All of the castmates screamed.
"Huh. Guess the producers don't like paying overtime," Justin commented.
"I'm worth every dime!" Chris said, suddenly sitting up with a grin and a shrug.
"I was just about to go out looking for your car and hightail it out of here," Chase spoke up in disappointment.
"It's the magic of cinema, boys and girls!" Chris declared, ignoring the comment. "I'm absolutely, perfectly, Chris-ily fine!" He took the top of the light off his body, revealing that, in fact, he hadn't been impaled at all. "Wanna see how it's done?"
"NO!" every contestant shouted and scowled angrily at the host.
Chris explained anyway, and blood appeared to pour down over the camera turning the whole screen red before the shot zoomed out to show the red was all inside a small square packet similar to what had been on the host's shirt. "Our cracker-jack effects team seals fake blood into a thin membrane of plastic," Chris said before the shot of him falling was shown again, "called a 'squib'." A top-down view of the fall appeared on the top half of the screen that showed the host smiling, while a yellow-and-black silhouette scene on the bottom depicted two interns carrying a mattress to the landing sight.
"This baby bursts on impact," the host said as the screen was splattered red again, which dripped away to show footage of the mattress being lowered into a hole in the ground behind the light, Chris falling down into it with a burst of blood before the ground the light was on descended into the ground and a platform with Chris on the fake light rose to take its place. "An old-fashioned optical illusion helps sell that I get impaled!" the host said as another silhouetted scene slid in from the right showing the fall from a side-view, with the quick change of platforms and lights.
"Can you not make like a sloth right now?" Jasmine groaned. “Get on with it.”
"Time for today's totally terrifying, blood-curdling, Horror Movie Challenge!" Chris announced before starting to walk around in front of the castmates. “To figure out which team gets which challenge, a scream-off! Think of every great horror movie you've ever seen.”
Izzy gasped in excitement. “Oh my gosh, you guys. Did you see that one with the possessed rug that learns to walk and smother cats? Or did I make that up?”
"All horror movies have one thing in common: fantastic screaming from actors. And," Chris added as he walked back past the Grips and lingered in front of Justin, "the killers that snuff them." The pretty boy looked nervously shocked, but Chris paid him no heed. "Each team, pick a serial killer," he told the castmates. "The rest of you will be the screamers. If your serial killer can make you scream the loudest, your team wins!"
A roaring chainsaw swiped down across the screen, accompanied by a sudden but dramatic twist to the background music as the screen was splattered red again.
The 'blood' effect drained away, transitioning the scene to Jasmine talking to the Killer Grips outside the numbered studios while holding the mask and bottle of ketchup. "We have to go with Anne Maria. I'd do it, but my height would be a dead giveaway."
“She scares me on a daily basis,” Millie agreed with the plan.
“And though the mask offers good protection for my beautiful face, I already performed a role in the third challenge,” Justin added.
Jasmine was about to give the mask to Anne Maria until Chef came in and grabbed the object. "Brick's gotta do it!" he claimed furiously.
"But we already agreed to a plan," Jasmine argued.
"Brick… is doing it." Chef said again.
"I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to tell us what to do in the challenges," Anne Maria talked back.
Chef grabbed her hair and held her off the ground. "Do you like having your hair shaved off of your head? Cause I can make that happen," the large man said to Anne Maria threateningly.
Confessional: Anne Maria
"I love my pouf," Anne Maria said. "Not only do I get to style it into whatever the heck I want, but I can also stash things in like spray cans, phones, food. Anything goes as long as it's not overly big. And the last thing I want right now is to lose my hair because of a dumb decision."
Confessional Ends
Chef dropped Anne Maria onto the floor, grabbed Brick by his collar, and shoved the mask onto his chest before stomping off in a satisfied manner.
"Since when does Chef buzz into challenges?" Jasmine asked. "This smells fishy to me."
"Oh, my bad," Anne Maria pulled a sandwich out of her pouf. "I was saving this for later."
“You guys have to let me be the killer!” Chase told his four teammates. “I have a lot of experience with scaring people on Halloween.”
“Okay, I am such the better scarer,” Izzy interjected. “My own dog is terrified of me, okay?”
“Most of my classmates are terrified of me, so I think that triumphs more over that,” Ripper argued.
“I wanna be the killer,” Scott grunted. “This is a role I was born to play.”
MK cleared up her throat. “Can everyone just-”
“But I was the one who scared my teammates last season with the bear costume,” Izzy pouted.
“I was one of them, and I won't be fooled by you again,” Ripper huffed.
MK gritted her teeth before shouting “I'm going to be our serial killer and that's final!!” Everybody stopped arguing and looked at the shortest member of the team. “You guys being the killer would be predictable and boring, and I'm just as worthy of being scary as you all.”
Confessional: MK
“I haven't done much lately other than puke my guts out and sweat uncontrollably,” MK admitted. “If we were to lose this challenge, no way would they consider voting me off if I do my best as the killer.”
Confessional Ends
The footage skipped ahead to night, showing a close-up of Chase walking somewhere around a wooded part of the film lot.
“Looks like we've been lumped into this together,” Jasmine said as the shot pulled back to show the Australian woman wandering around the woods as well.
"Who would've thought?" Chase asked rhetorically.
"Alright, Jasmine and Chase," Chris announced as the shot pulled out yet again to show the host sitting in a director's chair just off what was revealed to be an indoor forest set. "Prepare yourselves for your killers to enter!" The viewpoint shifted in front as he continued excitedly. "And then, I want huge, massive, ginormous screams! We'll be measuring the volume on our Scream-o-Meter!" He pointed above him as a bright green volume icon appeared; a stock screaming sound effect was played that caused the volume meter to rise from left to right, green to yellow to red.
"Lights!" Chris commanded, a dramatic note playing as a stage light was shown turning on. "Camera!" a camera was shown popping up and turning on to another dramatic note. "Action!" A film slate was held in front of the camera filming Chris and clapped.
Chase was shown in the distance with his back towards the camera just before a hockey mask was put 'on' over the shot. The camera moved forward a few steps towards some bushes as tense music built in the background, and the viewpoint shifted to show what was obviously a masked MK watching her teammate from hiding.
The music peaked as she jumped into the open with a roar, prompting Chase to scream… for a few seconds before stopping himself.
"Seriously?" MK asked in annoyance.
“I told myself that you'd be coming any time, so I had to prepare my scream,” Chase told his teammate.
The Scream-o-Meter only registered a few bars.
The camera cut to Brick peeking out of a tree. "I would've preferred if Anne Maria was performing this rather than me," the cadet said, making Chef pop up and scare Brick away with a roar.
Brick bumped into Jasmine while running away. "Oh, hello Brick," Jasmine greeted after turning around.
Brick looked at Chef one last time before putting the mask on and growing, leading Jasmine to scream and make the Scream-o-Meter register all the way to the first red tick.
"With a solid 55 on the Scream-o-Meter, let's notch one up for Brick, Jasmine, and the Killer Grips!" Chris announced.
The scene changed to a portable toilet set up in a smaller indoor forest set. “They cannot be serious," Anne Maria said as the camera cut inside to her filing her nails. "Who do these people think they are filming us in here?" The shot zoomed out slightly, showing that she was, indeed, sitting on the toilet. "I'm not giving them the satisfaction of using the toilet."
A flash took the scene to Scott's turn alone in the portable toilet. "Why don't we just give up now?" Scott scoffed. "There ain't nothing that can scare the Scottmeister much, and MK is no exception."
As if on cue, the techno burst into the toilet and growled loudly, causing Scott to let out a blood-curdling scream.
The camera cut back to Anne Maria, and Brick came into the toilet. "Were you in the middle of…."
"Wasn't even thinkin’ about it. Now do the scene," Anne Maria encouraged Brick, who let out a simple roar.
Scott was still screaming as the camera cut back to him and MK to the point where the Scream-o-Meter topped out.
Suddenly, the sound of peeing was heard, and Scott became quiet in his moment of embarrassment.
"I bet you never made anybody wet themselves like I did to you," MK took her mask off while snorting.
"Sorry, Brickhouse," Anne Maria said as the shot cut back to her and Brick. "You just don't scare me at all. You're kinda a marshmallow."
"I am large and in charge," Brick pointed out. “You're too tough to frighten.”
"And that's round two to MK, Scott, and the Screaming Gaffers!" Chris announced as the camera cut to him in the director's chair. "With a pee-fueled 85 on the Scream-o-Meter!"
After Chris left, Chef snuck out from behind the potty. "If Brick won't step up, the other half of the alliance has to."
The footage flashed ahead to another set, this time a couch in what appeared to be a small cottage in the woods. Ripper and Izzy were sitting on it together with scripts in their hands, while Chris stood a few feet away. "Alright guys," he told the two, "this is the tiebreaker scene. You're gonna have to act your faces off!"
Ripper read the script and his eyes went wide in excitement. "We get to make out! Brilliant!" he grinned.
"Those are one of my favorite parts of any horror movie," Izzy added.
"I love movie life!" Ripper smiled as Izzy sat on his lap and they began to kiss.
As the sounds of their make out session got louder, the camera panned over to Chris standing there with an awkward look on his face. "Awkward," he told the camera.
Millie and Justin were on the couch for the Grips, the camera focusing on the writer as she scanned the papers in her hand. Her eyebrows shot up and she dropped the papers. "No," she said. "Not this. Especially when I'm already dating Chase."
"I'll let you know that I'm a pretty good kisser," Justin told her.
Chris poked the top of his head up from behind the couch, looked between the two teens, and raised himself even further with a grin on his face. "Don't forget, kiddies," he told them, "it's a million bucks!" He ducked back behind the couch again.
With no other choice, the two leaned towards each other with their eyes clenched shut and puckered up. Their lips only barely touched before they recoiled.
“Glad I got that over with," Millie said frantically.
“It was a millisecond kiss, not a kiss of death,” Justin stated as Brick popped up from behind the couch and growled, but the two ignored the killer.
The camera cut to Izzy still making out with Ripper. MK crept up from behind them, brandished her knife, and said, "Ready to be chopped into sushi?!" She was ignored. "Uh, hello?!" she asked in irritation.
The duo looked over at her and gave half-hearted screams that barely stayed green on the Scream-o-Meter, making MK facepalm.
The shot panned over to the three sulking Grips until they looked up and saw a hockey mask wearing Chef brandish a revved up chainsaw and they all screamed. It was enough to put the Scream-o-Meter all the way in the red, and Brick managed to pass out and fall forward onto the couch.
"Well, looks to me like Brick and the Killer Grips have won this one," Chris announced as he walked onto the set, "seeing as they buried the needle. Join us after the break to see if Brick is still alive," he said as Justin and Millie looked over at Brick with concern. "Brick!" Chris called lightly. "Come in, Brick!"
(Commercial Break)
The footage came back with a bottom-up shot of the other nine campers looking down in a circle; counterclockwise from a gap at the top of the screen were Scott, Jasmine, Izzy, Millie, Ripper at the bottom, Anne Maria, Chase, MK, and Justin.
"Is he still breathing?" Anne Maria asked.
"I think he's saying something," Jasmine said before the viewpoint moved to a close-up of the unconscious cadet.
"I'm sorry. I can't take this anymore…" Brick murmured before his face turned scared and he shouted "NO NO NO NO NO!" while turning around.
“Okay, time to wake this doof up,” Ripper said before grabbing Brick's body and sitting him on the couch. The moment he did so, the bully smacked Brick hard on the face.
This act woke Brick up, and he looked around in confusion. "What happened? Why am I here? And where's Chef?"
"Chef's in a meeting with the producers," Chris explained. "A disciplinary meeting. He's in trouble! Not allowed to mess with the challenges."
"I had a feeling something smelled fishy, and not the sandwiches," Jasmine said suspiciously.
"Moving right along," Chris interrupted as the camera pulled out to show the full cast. "It's time to pack up those overnight bags, loser Gaffers!" The camera focused on the five in question. "You and your sleeping bags are spending the night in the dining hall!" All five of them slumped in disappointment. "Grip winners, back to the comfort of the trailers for a little R&R! I'll see you there in half an hour."
The scene flashed over to the craft services tent, the lights within already on. “The craft services tent isn't a bad place to spend the night,” Chase was heard saying before the camera cut inside. "We still have some good memories of the food we ate in here."
Izzy popped out from under a nearby table. "More than memories. I just found half a piece of cheesecake under here," she demonstrated the food.
“Could you split that into one-fourth so I could at least take a piece?” Chase suggested as he looked over the cheesecake.
"Guys!" Chris called from off-camera. "You mind joining us here?" A creepy tune began as the shot moved onto the host on a stool in the middle of the tent, the other three Gaffers seated on the floor around him as Izzy and Chase walked up.
"I'm about to tell you why this film lot was abandoned and closed!" he told the teens in a low voice.
"Because it's a death trap?" MK deadpanned.
"Hush, my child," Chris told her. "This film lot is perfectly safe! On this plane. But in the other dimension...," he trailed off, picking up a flashlight and shining it dramatically up from under his chin, making Izzy, Chase, and MK's eyes widen as they gasped.
"Juanita Rentacop, a dedicated security guard who worked here for twenty-five loyal years, until her mysterious death," he told them slowly. "Right here...," the music built quickly and sharply as the camera pulled back and he stood up and pointed at the ground. "ON THIS VERY SPOT!" Even Ripper and Scott flinched slightly from his sudden exclamation.
"Now," Chris continued as he looked from Gaffer to Gaffer, "her desperate and uneasy spirit walks the lot." He tilted his flashlight towards the wall and doorway, shadows of the bare tree branches falling on the outside of the tent. "No one has ever managed to spend a whole night in this craft service tent!"
"Because the falling sets killed them?" MK asked in a dry tone.
"'Cause," Chris told her as he returned the light to under his chin and the background music rose again, "of the HAUNTING!" he leaned away from her and turned off his flashlight. "Your task," he said with a grin in the center of the group, "spend the whole night here, without leaving this tent. If all or one of you manage to do so," he began to walk off to a table near the kitchen, "your team gets invincibility, and nobody goes home."
"Track any psychic phenomenon using these ghost meters," the host said as the camera zoomed in on a trio of handheld electronic devices resting on the table along with a ouija board. "And just in case," he added as Scott walked over to him, holding out his flashlight before clutching it to his chest and handing the boy a tiny keychain flashlight instead.
"Gee, thanks," Scott said as he held up the light and turned it on, completely unimpressed.
A flash took the scene to the campfire in front of the cast trailers, where the five Grips awaited an approaching Chris McLean. "The Screaming Gaffers are sitting in the craft services tent like sitting ducks," he told them as the camera panned from his close-up to eager Brick and confident Justin, then excited Millie and smirking Jasmine. "Your task is to make like special effects gurus, and frighten the pants off them!" He laughed, then told a skeptical Anne Maria "Or at least scare them enough to get them out of the tent before sunrise."
"How are we supposed to scare them?" Anne Maria asked.
"It's your call," Chris answered. "But if you get them out, your team wins invincibility and nobody goes home. Oh," he added as an afterthought, "just so you know, I told them some cockamamie story about a security guard who died on set." He chuckled, then walked away.
"How are we going to pull this off?" Brick asked his teammates.
"Chase is probably going to get mad at me for this, but I say we turn out the lights," Millie suggested. “Me and him experienced a blackout when we hung out at his house and he couldn't handle it.”
"I've got it!" Jasmine declared with a snap of her fingers. "Let's go. We have work to do." The others shrugged and followed the Outback girl away from the trailers.
The footage skipped ahead to the Grips outside of the tent watching Jasmine hold a white sheet, pillow stuffing, and a red bird in her arms. “Now that we have our things required, allow me to tell you the plan.”
“Why is a bird even on a film lot?” Justin asked.
“This bird just tends to fly around and rest on my branch,” Jasmine explained. “More importantly, I'm going to place the bird in-between the stuffing in order to give it some space to flap its wings, and with the sheet covering both the bird and the stuffing…”
“...the Screaming Gaffers will think that a ghost is haunting them!” Millie realized.
“You hit the nail right on the head,” Jasmine said while ripping some of the stuffing off before placing the bird inside.
“Let's get down to business then,” Brick agreed.
Inside the tent, Ripper, Izzy, Scott, and Chase were shown playing cards at the table nearest the closed-up meal counter while MK sat in front of them feeling bored.
“Do either of you have a seven?” Ripper asked attentively.
"Augh! How did you even know I had that?" Scott groaned as he put a card from his hand down on the table. “I hate to say it, but you really are good at cards, Rip Van Winkle."
Chase noticed something behind him and began to scream, and his teammates looked at him oddly. "Is something wrong?" Izzy asked as her teammate pointed to the air behind him. A few deep notes played as the shot cut to the flapping ghost moving left and right by itself.
Scott, Izzy, and Ripper joined Chase in screaming before they dashed towards the exit.
"Hold on!" MK cried out, but they didn't listen. "I said HOLD ON!!!" This made the team come to a dead stop just as they were about to exit outside. "The ghost meter's aren't reading a thing." She held the ghost detector up.
“Then how do you explain that thing hovering over us?” Chase raised an eyebrow in annoyance.
“Something has to be inside that sheet, and it has to be…” MK said before she took the stack of cards and chucked it at the stuffed sheet, making it drop to the ground.
MK approached the “ghost”, and her teammates gasped in horror as she grabbed hold of the sheet and threw it off, revealing the stuffing inside it and the bird escaped from the stuffing and flew away.
"Great Scott!" Scott declared while the bird flew past him. "It was just a hoodwink!"

"If the Grips are trying to scare us so bad, then they must be doing a great job doing so," Chase told the confessional camera. "Putting a bird inside a sheet was genius."
Confessional Ends
The scene cut back outside, where the Grips turned away from the window they'd been watching from.
"Well, that didn't work," Brick sighed. "Sorry about your bird, Jasmine."
"It's no big deal. I'm not the bird's mother," Jasmine said.
“Does anybody else have any better ideas that don't involve stuffing animals into sheets?” Anne Maria asked impatiently.
“Leave that to me,” Brick spoke up.
"Don't you tend to get scared easily?" Jasmine wondered.
“Admittedly, I do, but I want to provide cooperation for this team,” Brick said. “And I will not take no for an answer.”
The team looked at each other for a brief while before giving in. “You are a Grip after all. What's our plan?” Jasmine asked.
Back in the craft services tent, the Gaffers had resumed their card game. "Give me all your two's!" Chase said.
The lights in the tent then shut off. "Uh, I'll give my two's later," Izzy said frightfully as she and the other Gaffers were shown looking around in confusion.
The scene moved outside, to where Brick was standing by a power box. He had already pulled the main switch down and took out a walkie talkie. "The power has been cut," he whispered into it.
As the Gaffers looked around their tent, the camera panned to Justin watching them just outside a window. "Nice work, Crew Cut," he whispered into a walkie talkie of his own. "Speed Writer, are you there?"
"At the ready, Dashing Devil," Millie replied from outside the tent.
"Remember, this is just Chris or the Killer Grips trying to scare us," MK warned her team.
“Yeah, you may be right,” Chase said optimistically. “This team doesn't give up.”
“Or die trying,” Scott added.
An odd, scratchy moaning began around them. The camera cut back to Millie, the author holding a megaphone and producing the moans.
Inside the tent, the viewpoint shifted to reveal Jasmine dressed in a security guard's uniform swaying in the air above them, her hat conveniently lowered over her eyes. She was obviously in a makeshift harness, and the camera followed the rope attached to her up to the rafters of the tent where Anne Maria was shown clinging to a beam with the other end of the line in one hand and a walkie talkie in the other.
"That's a go from Metal Hair and Long Legs," Anne Maria whispered.
The Gaffers all watched the supposed ghost sway about. “Now THAT is a ghost!” Ripper freaked out.
"I'm too hot to die!" Chase shouted before the team started to run off screaming.
"Are you serious?!" MK hissed. "The ghost meters are not going off!"
From his position, Justin threw a fork intending to aim for the detector, and just when the fork was about to hit its target, MK quickly saw the silverware hit the button on her detector, and despite it going off, the AV girl simply stood still and did not move.
“Yeah, nice try!” she laughed with a smirk after picking up the fork. "I know you're not a ghost, Jasmine!" MK pointed at the 'ghost'. “You can come back now, team!”
Jasmine lifted her hat and revealed her surprised face. "Abort now! We failed!" she said above her.
Up in the rafters, Anne Maria's eyes went wide as she began to pull up. At ground level, MK's teammates returned to the tent and watched in bewilderment as the 'ghost' began to ascend.
“How are you so good at not being scared?” Scott asked MK.
“To make it short, sweet, and to the point, I'm not a dummy,” MK said smugly.
An air horn was sounded off as Chris entered the tent with one in his possession. "The Screaming Gaffers win the challenge. And the Killer Grips are heading to the elimination ceremony!"
The Gaffers all cheered for their victory.
The scene cut to the communal bathroom where Brick was in the middle of washing his hands. After finishing, the cadet was about to step out until he saw Justin enter.
“Hey man. I want to talk to you,” Justin said.
“What could it be about, Justin?” Brick wondered.
“Earlier today, you were mumbling something while you were unconscious,” Justin mentioned. “You even sounded frightened like a bear was coming to kill you.”
“You still remember that?” Brick felt embarrassed.
“I do, but I feel like now is the perfect time to bring it up,” Justin continued. “You've been avoiding us lately and it's confusing us.”
“That is true,” Brick sighed, “but it's not…”
“Jasmine's really concerned about you,” Justin cut him off. “You and her have a bond going, Brick, and is hiding whatever you're doing worth ruining it?”
This caused Brick to fall silent for a bit as he reconsidered his actions before he opened his mouth. “I think I know what I have to do,” he said with a stern look on his face.
The footage faded straight into the opening sequence of the Gilded Chris Awards, followed by a flash to a long-distance shot of the amphitheater as the host approached his podium. The five losing teens were shown voting, with the trio of Millie, Justin, and Anne Maria in the upper row while Brick and Jasmine sat in front.
"And now, fraidy cat Grips," Chris said as the Gaffers were all standing on the stage alongside him, "it's time to announce who will not win a Gilded Chris this week. Who deserves to go home bitterly disappointed, tears in their eyes?"
“I hope someone takes a picture if that happens,” Ripper whispered to his team with a snicker.
“Watching the elimination ceremony is already our reward, but that would be sweeter,” Scott said.
Chef arrived in his usual dress with several golden awards. He bitterly took out an envelope, to which Chris quickly snatched up.
"And! The Gilded Chrises go to...," he announced as the Grips were seen sitting anxiously. "Anne Maria, Millie, Jasmine!" One by one, the three caught the awards that were tossed to them. "Still on the chopping block, Justin and Brick!" The camera panned from one boy to the other, the former looking calm and the latter feeling settled.
"Chris, I'll have to stop you there!" Brick stood up and walked onto the stage, much to everyone's confusion. "I volunteer for elimination. I do not deserve to stay. I did not follow my own code."
"Brick!" Chef yelled in frustration, but quickly chuckled nervously and walked over to the guilty boy. "Why don't you and I have a chat before you do anything stupid!" he whispered menacingly.
"I'm done listening to whatever you tell me to do!" Brick declared to the taken back man and then turned to the others. "Ever since the third challenge, me and Chef were in a secret and illegal alliance."
Everyone gasped at the dropped bombshell as Chef smiled nervously. "He's been attempting to build me up and coach me through the challenges just so we could split the money, and I do not want any part in this." As Brick spoke, Chris could be shown sending an outraged look at his assistant.
"Wait a minute!" Chase cried out. "All the food we've been eating. The pizza, the cheesecake, the sandwiches. That was you?"
"Why leave when you've been making our stay here better?" MK questioned with genuine sadness.
"Yeah!" Justin said in agreement while he and the Grips got on stage with the others. "Can't we just vote Chef off instead?" The model ignored the glare he was receiving from Chef.
"I'm sorry, but I have to make my conscience clean again," Brick responded. He then noticed Jasmine looking at the ground with disappointment. “Jasmine, are you feeling-”
“Like you said, it's best that you stay away from the film lot,” Jasmine said with an upset glare. “And more importantly from me. You lied to me, and a long distance apart is what's best right now.”
Brick hung his head in shame. “Understood!” he obeyed dejectedly.
The scene flashed to Brick stepping into the waiting limo with a sad wave. Chris walked up to it just as the door slammed shut and it drove off, leaving the host standing at the end of the red carpet with a vague smile on his face.
"Well folks," he told the camera. "Looks like everyone just lost their best chef and most moraled man. Now that they've survived this week's fright fest, they'll be forced to bear the most horrific, stomach-churning, gut-wrenching challenge ever! Chef's cooking!” The man laughed gleefully. “I love this game.”
(Roll the Credits)
(Bonus Clip)
“I know I did the right thing, and I don't regret admitting to my wrongdoings, but that doesn't mean that I can ignore the consequences,” Brick said inside the limo. “My fellow competitors will have to go back to eating Chef's less than quality food, and cooking is something I've taken passion in doing now, and my friendship with Jasmine is more or less strained.” He frowned sadly. “I never meant to hurt her at all. I could've told her the truth earlier on, and she still would've been disappointed, but at least she'd see that I was the noble man I told her I am. Now all that's left for me to do is hope that she wins the season.”

2024.05.23 04:15 hippiestitcher Simple pleasures of the library
For the size of my town (less than 3,000 people), we are blessed with a really amazing little library, thanks to a wealthy couple who endowed it in the 60's in memory of their late son. I went in today with my daughter because she was ordering a book from another branch and discovered they are doing a summer reading program for adults! For every three books I read between June 1 and July 29, I get a raffle ticket entry for a drawing on July 30. I've been trying to kickstart my reading into high gear lately and this is the perfect fun little motivation. I'm looking forward to reading some classics that have been on my want-to-read list for years and also trying some new things that I usually wouldn't pick up.
They're holding four crafting classes throughout the whole two months too, all free.
Also, our library has a resident cat and fosters kittens for a local rescue. There are cat beds in the seating area, and you see the odd toy laying around. Every library should have a cat!

2024.05.23 03:29 PrinceOfDunes The Station
There’s a few skeletons in my closet and one of them is begging to be let out, screaming at me because I threw away the key all those years ago. I’m expecting another child in a few weeks, her name is Ophelia. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the X-Rays for the first time. However, today is the day I own up to what I did or more specifically, what I ran from in cowardice. I still question whether or not I could’ve saved those people, if having my kids was worth the price of their lives. I’ll never know whether a man like me could have everything right. After all, it was my dreams that saved me and my dreams that haunt me still.
17 years ago, in 2008, my girlfriend, Anna and I decided to take a trip across America to visit Seattle. Both of us were so busy with our jobs that we took some time off to enjoy each other’s company for a week or so. Instead of taking the plane, we took a train at Blue Creek Station. It was this historic building that savored the heat of the sun and the voices of a distant crowd. Occasionally, the brick would lose its grasp and breathe ancient dust. Its gigantic size reminded you of a time more grandiose than you could ever truly imagine.
Of course, I wasn’t the one to pick it. Anna did some research online and while it was less modern than most stations near us, there was this attractiveness to it that went unexplained. She’s also heavily into historical backgrounds so needless to say, it was a done deal. If only I could’ve said no.
When the bus dropped us off at the station, I was definitely anxious staring at the large clock that towered above me, but being with Anna calmed most of my nerves. As we blended with the groups of mysterious folk, I could tell Anna was excited and she pulled me along to an array of portraits detailing every decade of Blue Creek Station. In each photo, some kid could be seen beaming their teeth as they got to ride on a train for the first time. They went as far back as 1908. They even had a copy of a magazine from 1912, the headline reading:
TITANIC SINKS FOUR HOURS AFTER HITTING ICEBERG; 866 RESCUED BY CARPATHIA, PROBABLY 1250 PERISH; ISHMAY SAFE, MRS. ASTOR MAYBE, NOTED NAMES MISSING.
I could tell that this station had seen everything, its eyes glued to the world like paper in a journal. Even the dim lights hanging over our heads shone with a resilient force, never letting go until the last flicker. Strangely, I noticed that the conductor in the very first picture was also in another. The first in 1908 but the second, in 1959. He wasn’t old either, he looked exactly the same except his wardrobe was different and he had grown a beard. I thought that maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me and as I looked longer, the resemblance became less and less apparent. “Hey Anna, do you think they’re father and son?” I asked, pointing at both portraits. “They look like twins but yeah, I think so. Maybe. I’m not so sure anymore.” Her reaction gave me worry, adding to the anxiety I felt before I even entered the building. There was definitely something strange but I couldn’t place my finger on it yet.
The intercom blasted awake, startling Anna. “Vampyr 133, now boarding. I repeat, 133 now boarding.” The miscellaneous conversations grew more dense as the intercom fell asleep again. “Hey, that’s us. Are you ready to go?” She replied happily, “Definitely, just let me take a photo before we do.” I nodded and she reached into her handbag for a small silver camera. It was the same camera I gave her for Christmas 3 years ago. It always warmed my heart to see her use it. She stepped back so that every portrait was in frame, and a small flash followed her movements. She glanced down for a moment, slid the camera back into her handbag, and grabbed my hand signaling that she was finally ready.
As we boarded, it became clear that the train was equally as old as the station was, going through multiple paint jobs and retexturing. Even the seats were outfitted to be more modern and welcoming. “Where do you wanna sit, Tomas?” Anna asked. I pointed towards a snug corner near the bar, with a perfect view of the outside. We sat down, placed our luggage on the rack above us, and waited until the train took its first breaths, hissing and howling until the wheels deigned to roll along the tracks.
Anna reached into the luggage and pulled out a book titled ‘Everything You Need To Know About Blue Creek Station!’ “No, you didn’t.” I stated. “Yes, I did.” She replied back, confidently. “You’re gonna make me read it with you, aren’t you?” “Yes, I am.” Her smile was now more obvious.
A few hours later, I found myself drooling on her shoulder like a 4 year old who got rocked to sleep. Fortunately for me, she was asleep too and my jacket caught most of my shame. I took it off and stuffed it into my carry-on. The train was now more silent and the sky washed over with darkness like no dusk before it. My being awake was no good thing as I had been dealing with insomnia for most of my life. Anna helped me with some of it but for the rest, I had to take prescription medication. At this point, I could tell when I had to take it and tonight was one of those nights.
I stood up with a pill bottle in my hand, stumbling over to the bar and caught the attention of the bartender. “Could I have a glass of water, please?” “Rough sleeper?” He asked, reaching for the glass. As he poured, I let out my perspective. “Yeah, I’ve never been the best at it. Once I am asleep though, I’ve gotta worry about dreams and nightmares. Never been the best at that either.” When he handed the water over, I gave a thumbs up and took a pill as I drank. He soon spoke to me, and I noticed that he had some sort of Romanian accent. I thought it strange but paid no mind as his voice brought me comfort. “Don’t speak ill of dreams, my friend. They reveal truths unknown or seemingly trivial to the waking mind. Even the darkest nightmares have merit. Unlike many of the souls in this lounge, you are gifted with God's eyes and the Devil’s potential chaos.” “That’s incredibly profound. I’m guessing you’re not from here?” I questioned, taken aback by someone who sounded so wise. “My name is Vlad, and I come from across the sea. I moved here decades ago after seeing how lovely America is compared to my home.” “Well, to meet you, Vlad. I’m Tomas. I’m with my girlfriend Anna over there.” I nodded my head towards her, who was still knocked out cold. A grin broke out across his face, his eyes now more visible as a gust wind swayed his long, black hair back. “You’re in love?” I stupidly answered his question, somehow not finding the man suspicious as his eyes twisted with delight. “Yes, very much so. I’m hoping to get married to her in the next year or so.” He went silent for a few seconds, then whispered under his breath, “May that happen if the sun rises for you once more.” That sentence broke me out of my comfort and all I could say was “Sure, Vlad. Sure.”
I went back to my seat and rested my head upon Anna’s warm shoulder, meeting eyes with the bartender who still stared in my direction. Before I drifted off into sleep, I noticed that smile never left his face, frozen and crooked like that of a wild animal, who hadn’t eaten in days.
When I awoke, my head was pounding. I felt like I was hungover after a heavy Tuesday night of alcohol and endless partying. I struggled to balance myself, waving my hand over a beam of light. “Anna?” I called out, but she didn’t answer. In fact, she wasn’t there at all. Nobody was around. On top of that, the train gained this newborn shine, as if the years never rusted it away. I stood up slowly and the carpet stuck to my feet, looking reddish-brown instead of beige like I remembered it. I called out once more. “Anna? Honey?! Please tell me this is one big prank.” Again, nobody answered.
I peered upward and our things were gone too, replaced by a stray jacket and ripped bowler hat. If that wasn’t strange enough, the hangover wearing off made me notice that the train wasn’t moving whatsoever. It’d been stopped in the middle of a dense, blinding forest. Only the lights on the train illuminated the area surrounding me. All of the doors had been opened as well, the one closest to me torn up as if a beast wanted to get through. As I maneuvered around the emptied seats, I knew I was right. Claws marked the door, pulling away at steel skin. Just as wind crept into the train, my worry did too. Anna was a strong woman, she knew how to fight because of her father, but that wasn’t enough to dissuade my feelings. “If something happened to her, why am I still here?” I pondered.
Suddenly, a harsh wailing exploded from within the forest, violating my ears with instant panic. Before I knew it, I was taking off into the forest, using the moon’s shy glow as my torch. The wailing continued, a symphony of pain and suffering that grew by the second. “I’m coming, hold on!” I yelled, hoping I could make it in time. There was no thinking, no moment to breath, only the raw energy carrying me forward with each step. The forest seemed to go on for miles until I reached a wide clearing of grass and burnt cloth. A large fire smoked and hissed, the same way the train did on departure, except this fire danced, following your movement.
I couldn’t find the source of the screaming, even with the fire showing me more than what I was originally able to see. Then the rain started, the water dousing the dancing limbs of the fire, drenching my shirt with melancholy. Still, I walked inward, brushing my palm against the tall grass as I searched for answers.
As I grew closer to the center, a storm brewed with a disturbed passion. The rain grew louder and louder until nothing else could be heard, then the lightning started, revealing the foggy sky. I reached down towards one of the burnt pieces of cloth, reaching into a chest pocket that held a wallet. It read:
Morgan David Wallace. Birthdate: 7/13/1883.
My heart sank, made creepier by the off-putting smile of Morgan Wallace, who hadn’t known of the world I came from. I tried to make it make sense. Maybe it was a prank or I was dreaming a dream too real but the vividness of the freezing weather on my exposed skin made that void. I’d gone back in time, I was sure of it. Checking more papers in his wallet, I learned that I’d gone back to 1918, 10 years after the grand opening of Blue Creek Station, 90 years exactly before I arrived.
I thought it couldn’t get any worse but I was wrong. As I sat on my knees, fruitlessly analyzing the contents of the cloth, the wailing continued. I began to sprint again until I heard another in the opposite direction, there were two, then three, then four, and eventually, the forest was another haunting choir. It sounded like how I imagined hell would be. The screaming mixed and boiled until converging at one point, a tall ancient tree just beyond my sight.
Manic as I was, I braved the storm, trudging through taller grass, deeper mud with hands that stuck onto my ankles, and an overwhelming mountain of assorted clothes, a grim message I didn’t want to understand. I closed my eyes, letting my hands guide my body, and when I didn’t feel anything, I opened them.
The rain stopped, the field returned to its normal state, and the choir skittered away by a whimper. I stared at the silhouette of the tree, desperate for something. My heavy breathing seemed to be the only thing that filled the space. I waited for 5 minutes and as I began to turn around, lightning struck the air above, granting me my sacred answer. It looked like someone was on it, yet I couldn’t quite tell, and the lightning struck again, queuing the choir as I laid my gaze on a most horrific scene.
Impaled upon the tree, all 64 passengers hung either dead or dying, dressed in blood and their own intestines. Pale, yellow-eyed creatures crawled all over them like wolves, tearing away at their flesh with ease. I froze, disgusted and halfway prepared to vomit into the mud beneath my feet. It was sick, it was cruel, it was… impossible. How do you describe something so unbelievably fucked?
“We must’ve missed one.” A mysterious voice murmured. I freaked out, turning around right into the chest of one of the creatures, who retained an air of humanity in his physical appearance. He had me backed into the ground, legs twisted and arms weak from holding me up. He smiled softly, showcasing a set of elongated canines and mustard pupils. I kept looking at him and immediately remembered who he was; it was Vlad. He still sported long hair and a curled mustache that reached cheek to cheek. The only difference was that he was drenched in blood more than rain and wore a coat too expertly crafted for a bartender. “Vlad…?” I shakenly asked. His face lit up with joy as he bent down to face me. “You know me? One of you bootlicking sheep actually knows me? My, my, I am surprised. How did you figure out that little fact?” “You- you told me.” “I told you? Are you sure about that?” I nodded, barely able to register what was happening. “As interesting as that seems to be, my family is looking for some dessert after supper. I doubt you brought cake to our little feast.”
He stared at me, with that same look he gave before I fell asleep. A crooked smile exposing his teeth and one mindless thought of ripping my spine out of my back to use as a dining table. His entire body went still, his head bent like the arrows on a ticking clock. Breaking the silence, he said “You should run.”
I jumped up, taking off into another sprint as the thunderstorm continued, twirling above my head. The open field again spiraled into a blood ocean, my navigation solely dependent on my need to escape. Behind me, I heard as the grass and trees cracked, followed by multiple bouts of laughter. They tracked me all the way back into the forest, occasionally leaping to catch me and missing ever so slightly. I wasn’t going to make it, I couldn’t make it, and even if I did, the train wouldn’t be enough to protect me from my fate. My only regret was that I couldn’t see Anna for one last time. Then they caught me, pinning me against a rock in a significantly smaller clearing. The foot on my back felt like it could crush my bones within a second. Vlad spoke again, but he wasn’t the one who caught me. I could hear him a little further away. “I have to say, you’re quite the runner. I know that got your blood pumpin!” He pulled my head back, which caused me to let out a scream. Like the foot, his strength was far grander than he’d have you believe. A sound of sniffing lingered around my neck, and out the corner of my eye, his teeth were out once more. “Speaking of blood, I wonder how much is in you.” His face stretched out, morphing and turning paler until he looked just the rest. Then he snapped his head back, finally plunging his teeth right into my exposed neck.
But I didn’t feel anything.
He stood back, befuddled, his form returning. Even his henchman let me go. As I rotated my body to face him, I could tell he knew what happened. “You’re not from here, are you?” My eyes teared up, my words slurred but direct. “No, I’m not from here! This was supposed to be a dream, this is a dream!” Vlad didn’t answer, he just stood. Looking at me with curiosity and fear. Then he bent down, wiping a falling tear with his fingernail, and whispered. “Întoarcere.”
I woke up again. The train was still moving as the forest brushed past and Anna was alright, looking straight at me. “What’s wrong?” I asked. “You were crying in your sleep. You’ve never done that before.” “Crying? Why would I be-“ Then I saw him, leaning over the counter, that deadly look to accompany a slaughter. The fangs that bit a 1000 men, the eyes that will stare into 1000 more, and my haziness of memory became nothing but a brief respite from a night of true fear. “Let’s go, we need to go.” I warned, stumbling to stand up and fighting with our bags. “What are you talking about? We’ve barely reached North Dakota.” I didn’t answer, only stopping to look at Vlad who was now serving people at the bar. “Tomas, talk to me. What’s going on?” I stopped, grabbing her arms gently and said, “I need you to trust me just this once. If we don’t leave this train, we’ll deeply regret it. You’re the one person on this earth that I will look crazy for, if that means spending another day with you.” “Okay.” She awkwardly smiled, confused but content.
I gave her the respective bags, escorting her through each row, imagining the blood soaked carpet and the torn open doors. We waited 10 minutes and eventually, the train stopped at one of the few sub-stations where normally nobody would end their trip. The doors opened, we stepped outside and just like the dream, rain fell and a storm answered its call. Anna and I walked downstairs and across the parking lot, following directions from a sign that said:
Rochester, MN - 5 miles away.
“That’s a lot of walking, babe. Are you sure it was a good idea to leave the train?” Anna questioned. I looked back at the moving train and said “It was the best one.” Not long after I said that, still a few miles away from the nearest town, a familiar voice rang through my head clearer than my own thoughts. “Your abilities are too precious to waste. Live, so that I may never see you again.”
Anna and I ended up spending our two weeks in Rochester and a few other towns in Minnesota, nowhere close to Seattle like we planned. I never told her about my dream or the century old bartender, but a year later, we did hear about Blue Creek Station and the infamous Vampyr 133 train.
The headline read:
50 MISSING PASSENGERS ABOARD 133; NORTHERN STATES POLICE FIND NO ANSWERS; BLUE CREEK™ TO UNDERGO FURTHER QUESTIONING
It confirmed my suspicions at least, that it was real. That what I saw was a glimpse into the past, turning me into the witness of a decennial tradition. Unfortunately, the buzz dried out and everyone began to act as though it never happened. Nothing that serious ever goes unnoticed and yet, it did.
Every night, my mind races back to that day. If I hadn’t made it out and increased the missing to 52. Or if I had gone completely insane and drove everyone out of the train, possibly saving a lot of loved ones. Would that have even helped?
Many questions go unanswered when it comes to Blue Creek Station, but I’m 36 now, and too scared to ever visit that place again. Hopefully, my kids never figure out that Anna and I were there. Or worse, that they wake up one night and find out… they’re not in the time they’re supposed to be.
UPDATE: The kids found Anna’s photo.

2024.05.23 02:43 Gottaloveitpcs Time travel thoughts
I am on another reread of the books and am now towards the middle of Bees.
I am once again thinking through the various takes on time traveling. Whether one believes in the whole “Marty Mcfly” scenario where one ceases to exist when popping in and messing with a time line or Einstein’s time continuum, I’m finding the Gabaldon perspective quite intriguing. She seems to be implying that TT is an integral part of existence and that all things naturally or necessarily happen regardless.
SPOILER! A passage from Bees:
Bree was slowly working on handmade approximations of some of the other Dr. Seuss books, with her own whimsical versions of the drawings and as much of the original verse as she and Claire could remember between them. They were by no means as eye catching as the real thing, but also much less likely to cause more than a smile or a puzzled frown, should anyone look through one. “And what if you meet a printer in Savannah, who catches sight of it and wants to publish the book?” Roger asked, trying to sound no more than mildly curious. He’d almost got over worrying about exposing bits of future culture to the eighteenth century, but it still gave him an uneasy feeling at the back of his neck, as though the Time Police might be lying in wait to spot Horton Hears A Who! and denounce them. To whom? he wondered. “Historical friction,” she said. “There are all kinds of things-ideas, machines, tools, whatever-that were-are, I mean-discovered more than once. Mama said the hypodermic needle was independently invented by at least three different people, all around the same time, in different countries. But other things are invented or discovered and they just…sit. No one uses them. Or they’re lost, and then found again. For years-centuries, sometimes-until something happens, and suddenly it’s the right time, and whatever it is comes suddenly into its own, and spreads, and it’s common knowledge.” “Besides”, she’s added practically, “what harm could it do to loose a bastardized version of The Cat In The Hat on the eighteenth century?” Roger laughed in spite of his uneasiness. “Nobody would print that one. A story showing children being deliberately disobedient to their mother? And not suffering Dire Consequences for doing it?” “Like I said. Not the right time for a book like that,” she said. “It wouldn’t…stick.”

2024.05.23 01:00 livia2lima Day 14 - Who has permission?
INTRO
Files on a Linux system always have associated "permissions" - controlling who has access and what sort of access. You'll have bumped into this in various ways already - as an example, yesterday while logged in as your "ordinary" user, you could not upload files directly into
/vawww or create a new folder at
/.
The Linux permission system is quite simple, but it does have some quirky and subtle aspects, so today is simply an introduction to some of the basic concepts.
This time you really
do need to work your way through the material in the RESOURCES section!
YOUR TASKS TODAY
- Change the ownership of a file to root
- Change file permissions
OWNERSHIP
First let's look at "ownership". All files are tagged with both the name of the user and the group that owns them, so if we type ls -l and see a file listing like this:
-rw------- 1 steve staff 4478979 6 Feb 2011 private.txt -rw-rw-r-- 1 steve staff 4478979 6 Feb 2011 press.txt -rwxr-xr-x 1 steve staff 4478979 6 Feb 2011 upload.bin
Then these files are owned by user "steve", and the group "staff". Anyone that is not "steve" or is not part of the group "staff" is considered "other". Others may still have permissions to handle these files, but they do not have any ownership.
If you want to change the ownership of a file, use the chown utility. This will change the user owner of
file to a new user:
sudo chown user file
You can also change user and group at the same time:
sudo chown user:group file
If you only need to change the group owner, you can use chgrp command instead:
sudo chgrp group file
Since you created new users in the previous lesson, switch logins and create a few files to their home directories for testing. See how they show with ls -l
PERMISSIONS (SYMBOLIC NOTATION)
Looking at the -rw-r--r-- at the start of a directory listing line, (ignore the first "-" for now), and see these as potentially three groups of "rwx": the permission granted to the "user" who owns the file, the "group", and "other people" - we like to call that
UGO.
For the example list above:
- private.txt - Steve has rw (ie Read and Write) permission, but neither the group "staff" nor "other people" have any permission at all
- press.txt - Steve can Read and Write to this file too, but so can any member of the group "staff" and anyone, i.e. "other people", can read it
- upload.bin - Steve has rwx, he can read, write and execute - i.e. run this program - but the group and others can only read and execute it
You can change the permissions on any file with the chmod utility. Create a simple text file in your home directory with vim (e.g.
tuesday.txt) and check that you can list its contents by typing: cat tuesday.txt or less tuesday.txt.
Now look at its permissions by doing: ls -ltr tuesday.txt
-rw-rw-r-- 1 ubuntu ubuntu 12 Nov 19 14:48 tuesday.txt
So, the file is owned by the user "ubuntu", and group "ubuntu", who are the only ones that can write to the file - but any other user can only read it.
CHANGING PERMISSIONS
Now let’s remove the permission of the user and "ubuntu" group to write their own file:
chmod u-w tuesday.txt
chmod g-w tuesday.txt
...and remove the permission for "others" to read the file:
chmod o-r tuesday.txt
Do a listing to check the result:
-r--r----- 1 ubuntu ubuntu 12 Nov 19 14:48 tuesday.txt
...and confirm by trying to edit the file with nano or vim. You'll find that you appear to be able to edit it - but can't save any changes. (In this case, as the owner, you have "permission to override permissions", so can can write with :w!). You can of course easily give yourself back the permission to write to the file by:
chmod u+w tuesday.txt
POSTING YOUR PROGRESS
Just for fun, create a file:
secret.txt in your home folder, take away all permissions from it for the user, group and others - and see what happens when you try to edit it with vim.
EXTENSION
If all of this is old news to you, you may want to look into Linux ACLs:
Also, SELinux and AppArmour:

2024.05.23 00:24 decapitated_hessian An Exercise in Book Titles in Toki Pona
Toki, ale!
I'm coming back to toki pona after not having practiced in a long time. This time, I feel like a I have a better internal sense of the language after the information in my head has lain dormant for a while. It's strange how that works. I've also been encouraged by how creative and kind this community is. You all have such inventive answers to translation questions.
Which brings me to my list of book titles (and one short story)! It seemed like a good translation challenge for redefining the title based on the understanding of the story or content but also trying to capture the laconic quality of titles. There's some tokiponization in there too. I certainly expect my translations to be strange in some places, but I gave it a college try with a dictionary in-hand. I'm interested in your critiques and other translations.
I'm still getting used to prepositions, numbers, modifiers, customary translations of common things (horses for instance), and the proper usage of the word "en" (I think I used it right here). Let me know. And enjoy!
