2024.05.20 05:00 damag0r7 Various bluetooth issues and how I fixed them in 22.04

First one:
in dmesg:
Bluetooth: hci0: Received unexpected HCI Event 0x00
$ sudo apt install bluetooth bluez blueman bluez-hcidump
Second problem:
Bluetooth: hci0: command 0x0c03 tx timeout
Bluetooth: hci0: HCI reset during shutdown failed
Bluetooth: hci0: Opcode 0x2005 failed: -22
Bluetooth: hci0: Opcode 0x2041 failed: -22
This one is harder to fix... You can either turn off bluetooth and turn it back on, but it will keep occurring.
What I know fixes it for sure is to use powertop hit tab until you see good/bad next to a list of devices. Hit enter to toggle the "good" for the bluetooth device to "bad". This will disable power saving for the device and stop the timeouts from happening. To make it persistent between boots, I think the following will work.
Create or edit /etc/udev/rules.d/50-usb_power_save.rules and it should contain:
ACTION=="add", SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="8087", ATTR{idProduct}=="b33f", ATTR{poweautosuspend}="-1"
Use 'lsusb' to get the idProduct.
For example:
Bus 003 Device 008: ID dead:b33f Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Bluetooth 5.3 Radio
I do not know for sure if this really keeps it persistent between reboots as I do not wish to reboot right now, but I wanted to share this before I forget about it.
Other bluetooth tweaks that make things work a lot better:
In /etc/bluetooth/main.conf:
FastConnectable = true
TemporaryTimeout = 0
Then in shell
$ sudo service bluetooth restart
Let me add it would really be lot better if this was all set by default. The power saving features on bluetooth cannot amount to much. I have power monitoring on all of my circuits and there is not any change that I can see when it turns off.

2024.05.20 04:29 IjikaYagami When it comes to creating a world-class transit network, LA's done or is doing most of the hard part, which is building the infrastructure. Keeping it clean and safe is much easier.

Amidst all the doom and gloom about the system, I will say this - LA's done or is doing most of the hard part, which is actually getting the infrastructure built to begin with. Keeping the system clean and safe comes second, and is much easier to do - just hire the right teams and put them to work.
I'm saddened by the current state of the system, but it's not permenant or long-term - just gotta hire the right people in charge, put the money in the right places, and the rest will fall in place.
I spent five years going to college in San Diego, a city that basically said "Can't have a dirty/unsafe system if you don't have a (reliable) system to begin with". I'd much rather have a dirty bus line than a nonexistent one, or one that arrives every hour or so and cuts off service after 7 PM, which is San Diego's system. A clean/safe system is completely meaningless if it's not frequent, reliable, or goes anywhere. What's more, the prospects for improvements are bleak, given how hostile the local electorate is towards transit and taxes. The situation's even worse in cities like Phoenix, Dallas, and Houston.

2024.05.20 03:57 HereToAskTechQs Super slow wake from sleep time on t480

Almost done configuring my new T480. Finished getting Manjaro installed and all of my usual binds set up and I finished getting firmware upgrades installed. The only thing left is an issue where the laptop takes forever to wake up from sleep when I either suspend or close the lid.
I have absolutely no clue what's causing this. The device boots from cold faster than it wakes from sleep. Not only this I was going back to my t430 with an almost identical install and the t430 wakes from sleep almost the instant you open the lid?!?! so what the hell is going on?
The only differences between the two machines are the t480 has the stock nvme and the t430 has a samsung sata ssd. additionally the t480 has a dual install with windows 11 installed on a separate partition as this was the os the device came with. I figured it was nice to have a free copy of windows 11 and I figured I'd leave it installed in case I ever need it for something but I mainly run to manjaro. Noteworthy - win11 wakes from sleep instantly so it's just a manjaro issue
I've tried various bios tweaks as well as any and all updates. here's the output from dmesg, it didn't seem like there was anything in it that seemed wrong to me but I'm not terribly familiar with it.

Is It Legal To Put A Vehicle Tracker On Someone's Car In Texas - Examples

Are you wondering if it's illegal to install a GPS tracker on someone else's car in Texas? The answer isn't straightforward – it's both yes and no. Let's break it down. If you purchase a GPS device and secretly place it inside a car you don't own, that's illegal and considered a misdemeanor in Texas. But, the law in Texas has its complexities and nuances when it comes to GPS tracking. Let's explore a few scenarios to understand these legal grey areas better.
  • In Texas, a person can place a car GPS tracker inside or outside of any automobile they own.
  • Texas businesses can use car tracking devices on company-owned vehicles.
  • You can legally hide a tracking device on a car you do not own only if 1) the GPS tracker is equipped to the outside of the vehicle, and 2) the car is parked on public property when the tracking device is placed under the car.
  • It is illegal to hide a GPS tracker inside a car you do not own as it is considered private property.
  • If a car is parked on private property you cannot legally place a GPS tracker under the vehicle. You must wait until the vehicle is parked in public.
Unlawful Installation of GPS trackers is defined in Chapter 16.06 of the Texas Penal Code as follows:
Basically, it is a crime to put a hidden GPS tracker inside a car that does not belong to you. Section 16.06(a)(2) says that “motor vehicle” has the meaning assigned by Section 501.002, Transportation Code.

The Punishment For Using A GPS Tracker Illegally In Texas

Illegal use of a vehicle tracking system is a Class A Misdemeanor in the state of Texas. Class A Misdemeanors are punishable by a fine (not exceeding $4,000). If you are found guilty of illegally placing a GPS tracker on someone's car in Texas you must consult a criminal attorney. The reason is that even if you already pleaded guilty, a criminal defense attorney will work on your behalf to obtain the lowest possible sentence.
Under Texas law, a law enforcement agency that reasonably believed a person was involved in some form of criminal activity (wiretap act) is authorized to install a GPS device as long as they first obtain a warrant. The unlawful installation of a tracking system on the vehicle of a private citizen could lead to a criminal investigation or electronic communication.

Arguing Effective Consent From Owner or Lessee Of Vehicle In Texas

Effective Consent means you received explicit consent or implied consent. If that sounds a little confusing let us try to break down that legal language. Effective consent means you directly informed the vehicle owner you would place a tracker on their car. For example, if you took the vehicle to an auto mechanic and asked them to equip a GPS tracker to the car, you have given them your express consent. Keep in mind that your criminal defense attorney will have to argue this defense.
On the other hand, effective consent many times can be implied. An example of this would be if a parent "leased" a car to their teen driver, and used a tracking device for safety The minor might not have provided express consent, but because they are still a minor (under the control of their parents) the consent is assumed.

Need Legal Advice? Find The Right Lawyer In Texas

Understanding GPS tracking laws in Texas is just the first step. Your unique situation demands personalized legal guidance. Remember, every case has its nuances. That's why consulting with a legal professional is crucial. They can offer tailored advice, ensuring your actions stay within legal boundaries.
If you're seeking legal advice on GPS tracking laws in Texas, it's important to find the right lawyer. Start by searching online for attorneys specializing in privacy or criminal law in your area. Websites like the State Bar of Texas or local legal directories can be great resources. Look for lawyers with experience in cases similar to yours. Read reviews and check their credentials to ensure they're well-equipped to handle your situation.

2024.05.19 23:57 PickleStarMan Bluetti B300 Not responding

Hello! My van (with my Bluetti B300 + AC300) was in the shop for just under a month, getting major repairs.
Since getting things back, my B300 (assumed completely drained), will not respond to being charged through AC300 (which will not turn on at all). Bought an xt90 car charger cable to plug directly into B300… Nothing.
BC300’s power light will turn on, but then blink off after 30s-1m.
Does anyone have any suggestions for fixes? Going to try and buy the recommended B300 cable to see if more voltage will help, but I am getting very desperate for answers. :/
Any suggestions appreciated. Also, if anyone is anywhere near Dallas Tx that has the B300 cable, it would be super helpful to test now rather than waiting 1week+ for it to be shipped.
TLDR: B300 not working, looking for solutions.

2024.05.19 19:19 doog_si_doof Advice on mortgage options

I’m buying a house in Dallas, TX @376k, 20% down, 760+ credit score and i am btw two options on my rate sheet:
  1. 6.375% no points, no credits, no escrow
  2. 7.375% with $7000 in credit
I intend to refinance both options in a few years, if rates go down.
In order for me to break even on option 2 I would have to refinance before 34 months to an interest lower than 5.5% at least. I can put the credit in HSA and use that to pay off the additional interest per month. If I can refinance before 34 months, I lose less $.
If I take option 1 then I have a lower interest rate and it’s safer in case rates don’t drop to at least 5.5 or they rise again by the time I’m ready to refinance (within 25 months after closing).
What do you think I should do? Is it risky to assume rates with drop and stay stable in a few years or should I play it safe and take the 6.375?

2024.05.19 18:52 just-a-cowpoke Where do I even begin?

Where do I even begin?
Particulars
Dallas, TX Existing French drains but probably no where near as effective as new ones would be Back of house faces east Reasonable capable DIYer Budget - don’t even know how much to budget at this point
I’m having trouble finding a way to make this smaller backyard more useful.
To start the patio was extended, before we moved in, from the house line to the semi-circle you now see. The flag stone you now see is poorly adhered to the slab and is starting to come loose or break away entirely. I screened in the section that you see in a temporary fashion so I’m fine with gutting that and rebuilding it if we somehow resurface the patio.
Probably my biggest complaint is the unevenness of the lawn itself. Idk how the drainage is fully set up but I know there are French drains somewhere just not sure how clogged they might be.
Ideally I’d like to push back and raise the lower retaining wall/raise bed area to serve as a garden for veggies, herbs and the like. Possibly demo the patio entirely and pour a new square slab extending the same distance away from the house and maybe replace the lawn with artificial grass.
What do y’all think?
