2024.05.19 21:58 Krw123 Fallout lore Head cannon/ proposal for A Fallout 5

To preface this is a narrative of the fallout lore both established in all the fallout games and many of the popular mods created for both new Vegas, fallout 3 and fallout 4 and a subsequent idea for a fallout 5 title that I wrote and wanted to get opinions on.
If you think this is cool lmk, if you think this sucks lmk. I’m just interested in sharing my own ideas with the wider fallout community.
From Lone-wanderer to the courier (TTW tie in)
After the events of Fallout 3, the Lone Wanderer, having no family and no place left to truly call home, gathered up his companions and headed west to start a new life. Over the next 4 years, the Lone Wanderer lived in the west with many of his former companions going their separate ways. The Lone Wanderer began working as a courier, known as Courier 6. There, he had a particularly bad run-in with a man named Benny, who introduced him to a bullet. The damage done to the Lone Wanderer caused him to lose his memories of his past. Thus, he became the courier.
After the events of Fallout: New Vegas, and the Second Battle of Hoover Dam, the NCR's military and infrastructure were severely weakened after destroying the Legion. Sensing an opportunity for mutual benefit the West Coast Brotherhood of Steel reached out to the Mojave chapter, where, under the leadership of Elder McNamera, the NCR and Brotherhood reached an agreement and official peace pact between the two groups, which culminated in the brotherhood becoming an official autonomous part of the NCR.
The West Coast Airship docks within the Strip, which was under the control of the Courier and member of the Mojave chapter. The West Coast reintegrated the Mojave chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel and uses the Strip as a base of operations. Leveraging their advanced technology and military prowess, they quickly gain the upper hand in engagements against the remaining enemies of the NCR.
The Coming Storm (Dust tie in)
Some time after the Second Battle of Hoover Dam and the BOS occupation of the strip joint expedition teams of the BOS AND NCR discovered the Sierra Madre Casino, as well as the mysterious and deadly cloud. The NCR and BOS scientists conducted experiments with the Cloud, bringing both massive samples of Cloud Residue and corpses of Ghost People back to the Mojave. Many of these experiments were conducted in a makeshift laboratory set up in the lobby of the Lucky 38 casino. Though the full nature of the experiments are unknown, it is implied that the participants involved were considered criminals to the NCR and the nature of the experiments were brutal, sadistic, and inhumane.
Around the same time, the BOS received reports that a massive sandstorm was approaching New Vegas. They did not share this information with the public, and instead began to outline evacuation procedures.
Five years after the expedition and experiments something went terribly wrong. It is implied that a disgruntled Vault 21 custodian may have intentionally sabotaged the Lucky 38 laboratory, causing a new Cloud to form over the Strip. This cloud was far more lethal and corrosive than the Cloud of the Sierra Madre. The corrosive capabilities even hindered the BOS power armor as the metal would be gradually eaten away by the cloud.
As the Cloud descended upon New Vegas, panic engulfed the Strip and Freeside. Riots and violence broke out. Miss communications between the directives of the BOS and NCR resulted in troopers executing innocent civilians in the streets. In response, the Kings rebelled against the NCR, while also aiding in an evacuation of Freeside, saving countless lives. The Followers of the Apocalypse were forced to abandon the Old Mormon Fort. The Airship of the Western Brotherhood attempted to evacuate all BOS personnel and any relevant technology from the strip before returning to Lost Hills. This resulted in some squads of the BOS being forced to take up residency within the casinos of the strip and vault 21. The NCR locked the gates to the Strip, with all civilians inside. The rebels led by the kings were forced out of and under the city, to the Sewers below. The BOS left in Vault 21 have been desperately trying to chisel away at the concrete within the vault in the hopes of tunneling back to Hidden valley.
NCR troops then dumped radioactive waste into the Sewers to kill any survivors, before fleeing the city themselves. Eventually, the situation became so bad that NCR General Lee Oliver ordered an evacuation of all NCR personnel from New Vegas via the Strip Monorail.
These events nullified the BOS and NCR treaty resulting in BOS forces seizing locations across the Mojave that had the capability to keep them safe from the cloud while also engaging in Guerilla warfare tactics against the NCR.
The city would ultimately fall to the Cloud and to the dust storms that blew in from the West. While some survivors attempted to take shelter in the Strip's casinos they were met with the business ends of BOS laser rifles. Those who did not head for the casinos were not so lucky, as anyone who wasn’t immediately killed by the Cloud became Ghosts and cloud victims, while others died slowly of radiation poisoning and exposure.
While New Vegas fell to the Cloud, a massive radioactive dust storm engulfed the rest of the Mojave Wasteland, causing widespread devastation. Whole settlements and towns were evacuated or otherwise destroyed. One settlement in particular, Goodsprings, was struck by an unknown form of plague, killing most of its residents and turning the once-prosperous community into a Ghost Towns.
Other areas, such as Boulder City, attempted to protect themselves with the same suits worn by Ghost people in Vegas and the Sierra Madre, ultimately becoming trapped themselves. To make matters worse, the Tunnelers from the Divide eventually burrowed through to the Mojave Wasteland, As predicted by Ulysses. causing even more death and destruction. The dust storms blotted out the Sun, allowing the Tunnelers to hunt by day, killing off most of the native animal population in the Mojave.
The effects of the Fall would spread as far out as Zion Valley, where spore carriers from Vault 22 ran wild, alongside another strange, terrible creature, dubbed the Wendigo by the tribals within the valley.
After the fall, little remained of the old Mojave Wasteland. Once-powerful factions such as, The Great Khans, and Powder Gangers were either wiped out or dissolved into roaming gangs of Tribals and Survivors. The Western Brotherhood which had resided in the strips cohesion collapsed as its members lost contact with the surrounding Casinos and vault 21.
Cannibalism became rampant, as people did whatever they could to survive. The NCR remained in control of various locations such as Camp Golf, Hoover Dam, Camp McCarran and Nellis AFB. Those fortunate enough to evacuate the Mojave mostly wound up at Camp Adytum, an NCFollowers refugee center in the Boneyard, however they were quickly drafted and sent to the now ongoing BOS and NCR conflict.
The NCR would eventually launch expeditions into the ruins of New Vegas, presumably to acquire materials left over from the Lucky 38 laboratories. However, none of these expeditions were successful, and the NCR soon abandoned all attempts to return to New Vegas, with only the Royst-Bernard Expedition consisting of rogue NCR scientific and military personnel returning in an attempt to succeed, where regular NCR failed.
The Patriot at Heart (America Rising 2 tie-in)
In the aftermath of the events of Fallout 3, the remnants of the Enclave fled north into the Commonwealth where they waited in hiding for 10 years. After the events of Fallout 4, the Lone Survivor helped revive the Enclave and ultimately forced the Institute into being folded into the Enclave, bringing their advanced technology and expertise in synth creation under one banner.
The Enclave embarked on a bold experiment, merging their iconic power armor technology with the synthetic advancements of the Institute. The result was the creation of a new breed of soldiers: Power Armored Synths or PAS.
These hybrid warriors combined the resilience and strength of power armor with the versatility and adaptability of synthetic intelligence. Clad in imposing power armor suits, these Synths were capable of executing complex military maneuvers, engaging enemies with precision and force.
Under the banner of the Enclave, this new army of PAS’s became the vanguard of their expansionist ambitions, striking fear into the hearts of any who knew of their existence. The Enclave took a page from the Institute by beginning to kidnap high-ranking members of the Railroad, Brotherhood of Steel, and Minutemen, replacing them with Synth sleeper agents who would corrupt the organization of the Commonwealth and East Coast Brotherhood to weaken them for an Enclave assault. This culminated in the Enclave assault on the Prydwen, forcing Elder Maxson to retreat back to the Capital Wasteland.
 Fallout 5: Tactics
The year is 2300, 13 years after the events of Fallout 4.
A squad of the Chicago-based Midwest Brotherhood intercepts a transmission from the East Coast Brotherhood, calling for aid from the West Coast Brotherhood in a last-ditch effort to defend the Capital Wasteland from the Commonwealth-based Enclave assault.
Our character, a Midwest Brotherhood Paladin dubbed the Major, must traverse the Midwest, gaining new allies and attempting to mend the fractured Midwest Brotherhood to aid in the coming conflict. Our character must also fix up a convoy to traverse the wasteland of the Midwest in order to make it to the East Coast. Various quests and side quests will provide the character with allies and further supplies for the coming conflict and further cement the Midwest Brotherhood's position within the region.
Once the player believes they have gathered their small army sufficiently and created their convoy, they embark on a journey towards the East. Along the way, they are intercepted by Enclave and Super Mutant forces. Upon entering into the Capital Wasteland, the general's forces link up with what’s left of the East Coast Brotherhood who have been hiding out in Rockopolis after the Citadel was infiltrated and taken over by the Enclave. DC now acts as the front lines of a war yet again between the Enclave, Brotherhood, and a new faction in the wasteland called the Behemoths, an organized and somewhat intelligent super mutant group led by an intelligent mutant named Osiris, who was once a member of the Master's army. Osiris united the D.C. Mutants and launched his own series of attacks on the Brotherhood when the Enclave took hold of the Citadel.
Along the way, we meet a one-armed Three Dog who barely survived the Enclave bombing of the GNR building but has since set up shop in Broadcast Tower KTB with a small contingent of Brotherhood Paladins who aided against the Enclave, rescuing Three Dog.
As the Major and the elders plot out a plan to assault the Enclave at the Citadel.
Mid west Factions: 1. Brotherhood of Steel (Midwest Chapter): - The player's faction, focused on preserving pre-war technology and knowledge. - Known for their advanced technology and power armor. - Initially, they prioritize their interests but may assist others if it aligns with their goals.
  1. Midwest Brotherhood Outcasts:
    • A splinter faction of the Brotherhood of Steel, formed due to disagreements over the main Brotherhood's leadership or ideologies.
    • They may possess similar technology and resources as the main Brotherhood but operate independently, sometimes in opposition to their parent faction.
  2. Reavers:
    • A ruthless raider group terrorizing the Midwest wasteland.
    • Known for their brutality and willingness to pillage and plunder.
    • Considered a major threat to the stability of the region, often in conflict with other factions.
  3. The Vikings:
    • A raider group modeled after the historical Vikings (with a mixture of the football Minnesota Vikings.)
  4. Gammorin's Army Remnants:
    • A militant faction once led by the super mutant Gammorin.
    • Composed primarily of super mutants, they seek to establish dominance over the wasteland through force.
    • Viewed as a formidable enemy by other factions due to their strength and aggression.
  5. Vault 0:
    • A vault inhabited by a powerful supercomputer known as the Calculator.
    • The Calculator once sought to expand its influence and control over the wasteland, posing a significant threat to other factions; however, it was reprogrammed by someone named the Warrior in the year 2197. This effectively deactivated and left the army of robots dormant and sealed away within Vault 0. Their advanced technology and military capabilities make them a formidable adversary and an equally valuable ally if they can only be reactivated and reprogrammed.
  6. Tribal Communities:
    • Various tribes and communities scattered throughout the Midwest wasteland.
    • They may have their own customs, traditions, and conflicts.
    • Depending on the player's actions, they could become allies, enemies, or neutral parties.
As the player ventures further into the capital wasteland they find that it is now far greener than in the past and wild punga fruit now can be found around the wastes, if the player makes a detour to oasis they will find that Harold has rapidly grown and from the Potomac River (death law sanctuary) in the west to temple of the union in the east is now a lush paradise (that is if it weren’t for all the deathclaws and raiders who stalk the forest.) As Harold/Bob spread, the brotherhood eventually sent out missions to learn more about it, after encountering Linden, they made a formal treaty with the poplars, in which the poplars were given water in exchange for the fresh fruit from the oasis. The brotherhood also helped encourage the trade of Punga with the Poplars to be grown within the oasis to help aid soil development and remove radiation. The poplars now tend the forest and have become somewhat of a nature inspired farming/fire fighting force, having a couple of villages throughout the forest network. However raider gangs also set fire to the trees, (if the player investigates they’ll find out that the enclave is paying the raiders to burn the trees and fight their way in to help destabilize the brotherhoods food supply and trade routes)
If the player chooses to side with the poplars/ Brotherhood the trees will continue to spread at a rate of 1 mile for every 24 real world hours that pass in game.
If the player helps the enclave they will be tasked with infiltrating the original Oasis and burning Harold alive, and the trees will dwindle at the same rate until the oasis is fully gone.

2024.05.19 20:39 Miss_Magic Help! Sad Crested 💔

Hey all,
I'm hoping someone might have some tips to offer.
Last month I had to say goodbye for now to my beautiful Powder Puff baby girl. My heart breaks for her everyday so I can only imagine how her Hairy Hairless brother is feeling.
They were litter mates and extremely bonded, if they were laying down you would think it was one dog.
Ever since her passing he's been upset as expected, but even worse he's been losing weight. The vet basically said his body is failing and there isn't anything we can do (they mentioned to add a little bit of vegetable oil to his meals to try and put weight back on).
He's been getting extra spoiled these days and at 15.5 I understand he's lived a long life but I just have to know I tried everything to help him. Any advice would be much appreciated. 🤍🐾
(I've heard getting a puppy can help but I can't imagine getting another Crested just yet, and on top of that I have a 5 month old son so it would be a bit challenging to do training.)

2024.05.19 11:38 spyr0technic Singapore VGC Nationals

Singapore VGC Nationals
Today (19 May) was the Singapore VGC Nationals tournament. 64 players were invited, vying for Top 8 to get a Worlds Invite, or top 2 for an Invite and Travel Award.
Having played in Limitless tours, PCs, MSS and Regionals overseas, I can say that this was the absolute worst VGC tournament I have ever participated in.
The tournament was held with the Regulation F ruleset, with invites sent to the top 64 Singapore players in the Global Challenge III.
Before the event, the emails and forms for registration & sign ups kept having mistakes. TPC sent 4 different emails to correct a mistake in the previous mail (Picture 1). There was even a mistake on the team registration date. It was changed from 7 to 15th May, to 7 to 17th May - on the night of 15th May.
Now comes the worst parts in my opinion, the actual event. The event was for 64 players, and only 43 checked in on the day. Because it was single elimination, 21 players got first round byes (Picture 2 for a snippet of the bracket).
These players could see who they were up against next, and had over an hour to prepare for their round 2 matches. This also allowed detailed information gathering on opponents if you had friends playing in the tournament.
How much of an advantage was a round 1 bye? see picture 3! They posted every participant's OTS on a board for everyone to see. People were taking pictures of their future opponents OTS and doing calcs and discussing strats even before round 1 began. I didnt stay long after I got eliminated, but in picture 2, every person (less table 8) who had the round 1 bye made it to top 32.
The judges said during player briefings that everyone had to stay at their assigned tables throughout the tournament (and that we had to seek their permission if we wanted a toilet break). However this rule seemed to be completely ignored during the tournament, as the 21 players with round 1 byes were walking around freely to watch matches or discuss strats etc.
And the OTS. When were natures part of OTS?? (pic 4 for reference) I dont think I need to elaborate how this detail is such a huge change in OTS. Imagine if this was done in Worlds Hawaii??
As a participant, I was hugely disappointed in how this was run and so angry with the organisers when I got knocked out in round 2. (My round 2 opponent was discussing strats and calcs with my round 1 opponent after my first match)
I dont mind being eliminated if I was outplayed or outmatched by my opponent. But the way this tournament was run felt like my round 2 opponent had such a huge advantage against me and I was helpless against it.
I just wanted to gather opinions on this, especially for players who have been playing in US/EU/AU. Does this tournament just give you the feeling that something is off?

2024.05.19 05:37 dunici How can I make my travel bags better??

How can I make my travel bags better??
I am leaving for a trip next weekend and am trying to condense my makeup, toiletries, and skin care bag. How can I make them better / the products smaller??
Makeup bag: This one I feel the best about but open to ways to make it better. Currently I have my eyelash curler, mini powder, mini sponge, mini powder puff, glowscreen, small eyeshadow, eyebrow pencil, drunk elephant bronzi and blush drops, eye brow gel, setting spray, blush, cream and powder duo brozner, primer, mascara and small brushes.
My toiletry bag is where I am concerned... I have my shampoo and conditioner, electric toothbrush and toothpaste, q-tips, eye makeup remove in the pink container, lotion, dry shampoo powder, leave in conditioner, hairspray, nail clippers, cotton rounds and toothpicks in the little bags, razor, deodorant, hair clips. Where I am concerned it the dry shampoo power because there is so much extra space in the container. I am also concerned with the q-tips because there is extra space at the top.
Finally my skincare bag. I have my sunscreen and acne gel in the original containers but they have pumps and I like having the pumps.

2024.05.19 03:49 Peacock-Shah-III The Committee for the Preservation of the Republic Convention of 1952 Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections

The Committee for the Preservation of the Republic Convention of 1952 Peacock-Shah Alternate Elections
“We must all hang together or we shall all hang separately.”
Thus quipped Benjamin Franklin as the American colonies joined against the tyranny of George III, the phrase hangs heavy in the imaginations of today’s political opposition. Laden with fears of violence, Chairman Osro Cobb of the Progressive-Federalist National Committee announced the cancellation of the party’s presidential primaries and the formal acquiescence of the party to the Committee for the Preservation of the Republic’s call for a joint presidential nominating convention with the American Liberty League. Yet, with the organization’s President Thomas Schall, once seen as the nearly prohibitive favorite for the nomination, dying in an unforeseen car accident and populist contender Eduardo Chibas taking his own life on live radio, the attempt to unite the opposition must find a candidate able to carry both banners in the face of Philip La Follette’s campaign for a third term.
Clare Boothe Luce speaking against the President's support for a moderate socialist government in Indonesia.
Leading Candidates:
The following candidates are seen as frontrunners for the nomination.
Clare Boothe Luce: 49 year old Clare Boothe Luce of Connecticut rose to prominence as Henry Luce’s scandal-ridden yet massively popular First Lady, whose charisma would lead to a popular joke that every Luce voter wished they had voted for Clare despite widely known allegations of mutual marital infidelity. Marrying Henry after divorcing her first husband and entering high society as the author of an all-female play, Luce would become First Lady at the young age of 38 and soon emerge as a face of the American home front amidst the Third Pacific War. Describing the nation as having become a “dictatorial bumbledom,” Luce has echoed the anti-New State ethos of the party and is seen as the candidate of establishment conservatives. Criticizing the very slogan of President La Follette, she has argued that the United States cannot “win the peace” as it has not truly won the war until the defeat of international communism. Clare has supported the Zionist project in Alaska, a unified military command to replace the Department of Peace, and the creation of a defense pact among American allies in the Pacific as the centerpiece of an aggressively interventionist foreign policy declaring “if we are no longer willing to fight for it, our Christian democracy is finished." Yet, Luce has also opposed the creation of a stronger international United Nations to replace the powerless Parliament of Nations.
Driven to Catholicism in 1946 following the death of her daughter, even as her ex-president husband gallivanted about with a girlfriend a thousand miles from his wife’s baptism, Luce has emerged as a changed woman, reportedly abandoning her affairs and entering a career in electoral politics with her 1946 election to the Senate. Though Aaron Burr Houston maintained a private devotion to the Church of Rome, Clare has taken her faith with a zeal heretofore unseen in American politics, using the Senate as a pulpit to preach against “materialism” and a spiritual decline as the root of both communism and fascism, slyly suggesting that the rise of the Pentecostal, Immannuelite, and Mormon faiths has come hand-in-hand with the nation’s fascist surge as she has publicly wished that “the whole world would be Catholic.” Despite defenses from Presbyterian former President Luce, Clare’s faith has weakened her amongst convention delegates fearing the alienation of firmly Protestant voters. Yet her charm, wealth, and ability to attract millions in funding from backers such as Henry Ford II while winning key endorsements such as that of Richard Nixon has catapulted her to the front of the field.
A candid photo of the nation's leading Texan with a fried chicken dinner. Had you asked an observer in 1940 whether Pappy O'Daniel might one day be President the answer would almost certainly be yes, yet many wonder whether the dynamic country singer has waited past his turn.
W. Lee O’Daniel: 62 year old Senator W. Lee O’Daniel, better known as Pappy, rose to prominence in his late 20s as an architect of domestic policy during Aaron Burr Houston’s third term, being largely credited with the introduction of an old age pension system funded by a consumption tax. After making his way to the fore of Texas politics on his own through the integration of musical numbers and a widely popular radio show with his political antics, O’Daniel would turn from an upset gubernatorial defeat in the 1938 midterms to organizing Aaron Burr Houston’s campaign for a fourth term in the White House as the nation’s last hope against Charles Lindbergh. Accused by critics of puppeteering a dementia ridden 86 year old out of his own lust for power, O’Daniel would serve as Secretary of the Treasury for a year before being unceremoniously removed from the cabinet by Henry Luce for his critique of the American attack on Pearl Harbor and opposition to the draft, leaving him in political isolation as the Texan distinguished himself by demanding the execution of striking laborers as crucial to the war effort over his radio show.
A steadfast isolationist, O’Daniel’s foreign policy views have made him a favorite among Liberty League libertarians. Depicting himself as nearly as conservative as Luce on domestic issues with an isolationist foreign policy able to appeal to the Midwest, O’Daniel has emphasized ties to the legendary ABH and anti-alcohol views he claims can over the rural South. O’Daniel has also sought to use Luce’s Catholicism into an issue, seeking the support of Ben Gitlow through their shared membership in the Evangelical Christian Right. Yet, O’Daniel has been seen as the least committed among the candidates to the Committee’s pro-democracy ideals, while others question his fitness for office based on his eccentric manners as a cabinet Secretary and Senator, with Eleanor B. Roosevelt’s 1936 running mate Dan Moody remarking that “Pappy is as lost at the Treasury as I would be in a circus trapeze.
Lucius D. Clay as an Administrator during the post-war occupation of Korea.
Lucius D. Clay: A distant relative of former President Henry Clay, 54 year old General of the Army turned banker Lucius D. Clay of Georgia has been the subject of a draft movement seeking to secure a candidate with the allure of a war hero after an attack on right wing generals such as Harold George, “some of whom are my own classmates,” accusing them of leading the party astray with the nomination of the ultra-conservative Benjamin Gitlow. Clay has portrayed himself as the candidate of order, supporting, as the others do, the prosecution of Blackshirts and the freeing of prosecuted opposition politicians. However, Clay, a former administrator of Lindbergh-era public works programs, is the only candidate to stop short of supporting the abolition of the New State, with backers instead focusing on the renowned administrative talent that led Douglas MacArthur to quip that Clay “could run General Motors or General Bradley’s army.” Despite his reticence to campaign at the convention, Clay’s moderation, vague platform, connections, and war hero status have won over a significant segment of delegates.
John Sampson Cooper on the cover of Henry Luce's Time magazine.
John Sampson Cooper: Named for martyred Admiral William T. Sampson not long after the First Pacific War dramatically ended with the Second Battle of Hawai’i, 50 year old Kentucky Senator John Sampson Cooper has led an underdog campaign of moderate liberals led by young activists Mark Hatfield and Chuck Mathias and Tannenbaum territorial delegate Jacob Javits. Returning home from Yale to find his father on his deathbed and his beloved Pulaski County burned to the ground amidst the Revolution, Cooper would be elected to county leadership at age 24, famously responding to a legal requirement that he evict the impoverished by personally paying their debts, earning the moniker “the poor man’s judge” as he emerged as a major figure in post-Revolutionary reconciliation in Kentucky. Returning home once more from service as a military attache in the Third Pacific War, Cooper would oust incumbent Farmer-Laborite Jerry Spencer in a 1944 upset, delaying taking his seat to serve as a legal advisor to hundreds of thousands of displaced Indonesians before emerging as a Senate leader in bringing the United States closer to India and other nations newly liberated from colonialism.
While eschewing the isolationism of O’Daniel, Cooper has demonstrated a far more relaxed stand on foreign policy than Luce, opposing aggressive anti-communism abroad while depicting the United States as a great mediator of peace in situations such as the violence in Palestine or partition of India. The reported favorite of Fulgencio Batista despite Cooper’s criticism of Batista as insufficiently committed to democracy, the Kentuckian has managed to maintain a widespread popularity with labor that has led many to speculate that Cooper would be the only candidate able to win the endorsement of organized labor and an imprisoned John L. Lewis. Lacking the celebrity draw of Senator Luce, Cooper has countered with a far more detailed platform, calling for the opening of American borders to the world’s refugees, massively increased federal aid to education, and, in stances that have left him anathema to many party conservatives, support for universal health insurance, coal subsidies, and public housing. A self admitted “truly terrible public speaker," Cooper’s political independence has won him the support of Will Rogers Jr. and made him a favorite of the modern liberal wing of the Liberty League.
Luis A. Ferre's El Dia newspaper, later renamed El Nuevo Dia.
Other Candidates:
The following are seen as major contenders for the nomination, but lag behind the frontrunner candidates.
Luis A. Ferre: Among the most grim results of the 1948 elections emerged from the Caribbean, where states once considered the most loyally anti-Farmer-Labor in America crossed the aisle for the first time in history. With strategists seeing the path to the presidency running through the island states, many among the electorally minded have flocked to 48 year old Puerto Rico Senator Luis A. Ferre, publisher of the nation’s largest Spanish language newspaper, El Nuevo Dia. A classically trained pianist who has focused his senatorial career on securing funding for the arts, Ferre has referred to the United States as the “moral summit of the world,” while aligning himself in the middle on economic policy, calling for “addressing the inequalities of society” by selling off public land at a low price and supporting federal public housing with an emphasis on rural revitalization, in addition to a call for a 4% Christmas bonus on the grounds of the Jesus Amendment.
James A. Rhodes: "Every time I take a position on an issue, I lose two percent of the people. If I do that 50 times, I have everybody mad at me," the quip encapsulates the philosophy of 43 year old Ohio Governor James A. “Jim” Rhodes and his backers. Emerging as the favorite of many convention delegates who have argued that the best path forward for a united campaign is a steadfast focus on bread and butter issues, Rhodes has remarked that “there are only three issues in this campaign: jobs, jobs, and jobs,” and has argued that to win the power necessary to destroy the New State and its legacies, any anti-La Follette campaign must focus on people’s lives and the economy, not vague notions of democracy and American ideals. Born in the hills of Appalachia, Rhodes would be forced out of college after failing every class, only to work his way into the Mayoralty of Columbus, before unexpectedly catapulting himself to the Ohio Governorship before the age of 40, where he has governed with a moderate conservatism focused on local issues such as water rights and a program to "put a college education within 25 miles of every boy and girl” that has been praised as a national model.
The King of Country.
Write-In Candidates:
The following candidates can win the nomination, but are either presently supporting other candidates and thus only subject to draft movements rather than an active campaign or lack adequate first ballot support.
Roy Acuff: 49 year old Roy Acuff of Tennessee was christened “The King of Country Music” for smash hits such as Wabash Cannonball, leading fellow musician Hank Williams to quip “book him and you don’t worry about crowds…for drawing power in the South, it’s Roy Acuff, then God.” Yet, after a rumor that Governor Buford Elington had labeled his music “disgraceful,” Acuff would embrace the label “king of the Hillbillies” in the 1948 election cycle to trade his acoustic throne for the Governor’s chair. Declaring that “any business must be put on a business plan, and so must a state government,” Acuff has cut the budget while requiring the Ten Commandments to be posted in government buildings, increasing state pensions, instituting a free school textbook program, cooperating with the La Follette Administration on the hydroelectric Tennessee Valley Authority, and has controversially called for additional restrictions on firearm ownership. Widely considered a possible frontrunner for his celebrity status if a primary were to have been held, Acuff has supported O’Daniel at the convention, yet has evasively refused to disavow a draft movement arising from his pro-union sympathies that many suspect could bring Fulgencio Batista into the fold alongside John L. Lewis, Jimmy Hoffa, and the opposition Farmer-Laborites.
Joseph H. Jackson: A Mississippi farm boy who taught himself reading and mathematics, 52 year old Joseph H. Jackson, President of the largest predominantly black church in America, the American Baptist Convention, has emerged as the favorite of former Gitlow ally Billy J. Hargis for his right-wing populist views and claim to be able to win millions of black voters back from President La Follette. Calling to “save the nation, in order to save the individual citizen, and the race," Jackson has focused his attacks on La Follette for violating “civil order,” and extended this critique to opposition protests. Making the radical proposal to not merely denationalize the General Trades Union, but to destroy it entirely, Jackson has called for the severing of diplomatic recognition to all communist nations and international intervention to spread “the liberating power of our federal constitution and the supreme law of the land, the American ideals of freedom and democracy.” However, Jackson has fallen from major candidate status after an investigation by the Labor Department into allegedly abusing unpaid labor at a daycare and using church donations to buy himself a mansion and a sports car.
America's chief penny pincher speaks.
Henry S. Breckinridge: The only member of the Liberty League at the fore of presidential consideration, 66 year old New York Congressman Henry Skillman Breckinridge ran alongside Al Capone in 1936 in the campaign that doomed the Commonwealth alliance, but has reinvented his career since by working to ally Federalist and Liberty League causes against La Follette and serving as the organization’s House leader. Advocating a heavily internationalist vision in line somewhere between that of Cooper and Luce, Breckinridge’s commitment to small government classical liberalism and a strict construction of the constitution has made him the favorite of Liberty League loyalists and some party conservatives. However, it is considered unlikely for a Liberty League member to win outright due to Progressive-Federalists comprising a majority of convention delegates.
Eleanor Butler Roosevelt: 63 year old former President Eleanor Butler Roosevelt was promoted for the nomination for months by her former counsel turned the “voice of impeachment,” Richard Nixon, who has noted that her re-election would have stopped the rise of fascism in its tracks. However, content with retirement, the writing of her memoirs, and the promotion of Nixon’s career, Roosevelt has categorically refused to seek the presidency. Nonetheless, she is expected to receive votes on the convention’s opening ballot from admirers.
Benjamin Muse: 54 year old former Virginia Governor Benjamin Muse won an upset victory in 1945 to be elected Governor against the campaigning of President La Follette. An establishment Federalist and charismatic writer, Muse received significant support as a candidate but has declined to contest the convention and worked to promote the nomination of Clare Boothe Luce after a meeting with Henry Luce.
H.R. Gross: 53 year old Iowa Governor and 1948 Progressive vice presidential nominee Harold Royce Gross has gained renown for his steadfast economic conservatism, vetoing every proposed state budget increase throughout his tenure and calling for a complete end to foreign aid in addition to the dismantling of the New State; avoiding moral arguments, Gross has opposed atomic bombings and war on the grounds that both are too financially costly. A hero of the party right, Gross has declined to seek the presidency himself, citing his refusal to attend fundraising parties rather than watch Iowa football games, and is expected to support Pappy O’Daniel or Jim Rhodes on the convention floor.
46 year old Samuel Ichiye Hayakawa has been elected interim Chairman of the Convention.

Spinach & Ricotta Strudel
I forget to take a picture of the frozen strudel but it is sad looking, like a frozen savory pop tart.
But it baked up pretty decently and I put the broiler on for the last few. It is hitting the exact craving itch - savory, creamy, not heavy, flaky-ish pastry. Grade: B
I highly recommend the hot honey drizzle and letting it cool for far longer than you think you would. Molten lava.

2024.05.18 17:50 Jumpy_Sundae_5883 Should I get the Huda Beauty setting powder?

I've been using the RCMA No-color powder as a setting powder in the last few years. I use it to set my undereyes, forehead and around my nose with a big brush and also with a puff. To be honest, I feel satisfied with the result but I wonder if I am missing out the Huda beauty powder. I've never used it but I saw it all over TikTok and I wonder if it's worth it since it's so expensive.

2024.05.17 21:57 Interesting-Fox4064 Maude, Beverly Hills

Had a lovely time at Curtis Stone’s “Maude” in Beverly Hills, went for my birthday to have my first Michelin star experience. Quite satisfied!
First item was a “welcome cocktail,” a frozen bar of green apple mojito with fir pine powder and sorrel on it, very refreshing and fun to eat.
The next three are the “snacks” on the menu. The yellowfin tostada was fantastic, the green on it is tomatillo and it was set on a purple corn chip. A lot of dishes had a crunchy element for texture which I appreciated. Second snack was “pai tee” which was my second favorite thing of the night. The little cups were filled with cured trout and avocado mousse, and topped with smoked trout eggs. So creamy and rich with good trout flavor without being too fishy. Last snack was the green garlic pillow which was basically a tiny salad in a little puff of some kind, had crème fraiche and pickled green garlic inside and microgreens on top.
The nopales dish was interesting; steamed dungeoness crab with cactus and raspberry (menu says green strawberry but maybe they were out?). Sounds strange but it worked, the raspberry acted almost like a vinaigrette to give a burst of acidity and brightness, and the cactus cracker on top added some crunch.
The sea urchin was okay, best uni I’ve had but that’s not saying much for me. I only ever had it before as sushi and described it then as “salt flavored toothpaste” so I was apprehensive. Flavor was good though, nice and creamy, and the mandarin added some zing to cut through the richness. Didn’t really taste the caviar and it could have used another piece of mandarin in there. Not bad though.
The snap peas were my third favorite; it was literally just peas, caviar, jamon iberico and jamon iberico broth. Could have honestly demolished a whole thermos of the stuff. Caviar felt superfluous, not sure it added much compared to the ham and peas but overall delicious.
The homemade bread and butter was good. The butter was aged in house for 10 weeks so it had an almost cheddar like flavor. The bread was apparently the bread from the movie The Menu, which was hilarious.
Halibut was up next and this was my favorite of the night, could have polished off a full entree size plate of it and it’s totally put me in the mood for making bouillabaisse. Everything was perfect, the fish, the mussels, even the sea beans. And the broth? chefs kiss
Next was abalone and asparagus over a miso risotto followed by asparagus tempura. Delicious, not much more to say. Abalone was very tender and the tempura was crisp and flavorful. They also had little wedges of limequat to squeeze over them.
Wolf Ranch Quail was good, very well cooked, but the real stars were the sauces. One was beet based and was really thick, almost a puree, and the other was a very flavorful tarragon sauce. Good stuff.
The cheese course was our least favorite, which isn’t to say it was bad or anything, just didn’t wow us like everything else. The cheese itself was sort of an espuma with celery root and truffle underneath, but the overall impression when you get a bite with some of everything was “hot wet cheese.” Eh.
Dessert was amazing, they take you upstairs to their chilled wine loft where you can get coffee, sherry, and a blanket. Started with a strawberry granita palette cleanser, then had pistachio “ravioli” which were delightful. The truffle was chocolate mousse inside a chocolate shell molded from a real truffle, I ate it too fast to get a cross section but it was amazing. Last was a selection of mignardises, with cream puffs, bonbons, and berries rolled in mannitol.
Ambiance and service were both impeccable. Had a lovely evening and glad I went! Definitely recommended.

2024.05.17 19:45 Professional-Egg-7 Helping my mom find mature skin makeup products

My mom asked me to help her find skincare and makeup products. I'm okay for skincare because that's basically my hobby, but I'm not super knowledgeable about makeup (especially for more mature skin).
I'm concerned that I didn't recommend primers that'll go well with the foundations
I wanted to give her options but only added things I've tried or were suggested specifically for mature skin.
Foundation (match your neck, not face): - L’Oréal Paris True Match Nude Tinted Serum with 1% Hyaluronic Acid - L’Oréal Paris Infallible 24H Fresh Wear Foundation
Concealer (1-2 shades lighter than your skin/foundation): - NYX Professional Makeup Bare With Me Concealer Serum - E.L.F. Cosmetics 16HR Camo Concealer - OR the hydrating version
Mascara: - L’Oréal Paris Double Extend Beauty Tube Mascara
Eye shadow: I don't know much about this. I always go with a neutral nude palette. I usually get mine from places like Winners - Someone said the Maybelline NYC one is good - I trust E.L.F. products in general. They might have good palletes
Blush: - E.L.F. Cosmetics Halo Glow Blush Beauty Wand - if you want dewy (I have one you can try) - E.L.F. Cosmetics Camo Liquid Blush
Setting Spray: - NYX Professional Setting Spray, Long Lasting, Dewy Finish - E.L.F. Cosmetics Matte Magic Mist & Set
Primer: - E.L.F. Cosmetics Power Grip Primer
Bonus: powder for any areas you think will need to hold longer. Optional - E.L.F. Cosmetics Halo Glow Setting Powder - using a "powder puff" is recommended for loose powder

2024.05.17 12:43 waveitdowninside Full Face of Makeup Summer MVPs

Full Face of Makeup Summer MVPs
I attended an outdoor wedding as part of the entourage (with outdoor photoshoots at different times of the day), and did my own makeup so I wanted to share the MVPs of my look.
I applied it at around 10am and went home at around 2am na the next day, and I spent most of the day outdoors, and the temperature was mga 40 degrees. I am super oily and super pawisin sa mukha, as in BEADS of sweat talaga dripping down my face. Unfortunately, I don't have close-up shots of my face for makeup comparison b/c I was too preoccupied with not dying from the heat lol.
1. Biore Perfect Milk - I always use this sunscreen when I'm doing a full face of makeup during the day because of how intense its oil-control properties are. It also helps prevent my makeup from slipping. Same reason I don't use it everyday is because it can be drying even for someone as oily as I am. Around P500
2. La Roche-Posay Effaclar Matt - After years of searching I have found my HG replacement for my dead and discontinued Becca Ever Matte Primer! Absorbs really, really well without drying out my face. No silicone-y or slippery feeling left afterwards. A cheaper alternative that works about as well is the Spotlight Skin Mattifying Primer. Only difference is it doesn't feel as comfortable kasi mas may silicone feel yung finish niya sa skin ko even after nag-absorb na. Bought at duty free which converted was just around P1K
3. BLK Life Proof Airy Matte Foundation - Bought this coz none of my full coverage foundations (ELDW, Maybelline, Revlon) were playing well with my Ben Nye Final Seal. Provided medium coverage until mga 3pm (that's about 5hrs of wear), then I needed to retouch na with my Pond's BB Powder. It looked more like a skin tint na lang after that point. Still photographed really well though until the afterparty. Tbh MVP ko siya coz it works with my Ben Nye. Applied with a flat kabuki brush. Around P700? Don't remember na exact price
4. Pond's Magic BB Powder - HG!! I used this to set my foundation, then used it to touch-up late in the afternoon. Oil control is amazing no matter how sweaty I get. Really great at removing that hulas look. I even use this on its own on light makeup days. Also works well under sunscreen spray. AND SUPER CHEAP. I'm on my second bottle na. Applied with a powder puff. P149-199
5. Ben Nye Final Seal - Sa sobrang HG ko nito, bumili ako ng foundation that can play well with it. Expensive but so worth it. I've tried other setting sprays (UD All Nighter, Nichido, Vice, Revlon), but they've all transferred EXCEPT for this one. This one talaga ZERO transfer no matter how many hours I'm out or how oily and sweaty I get. This literally forms a seal on your face so your makeup does not budge. Not advisable for dry skin though because it is really drying. Cheaper alternative would be Revlon Lock It. Very minimal transfer when I was testing it out, not drying, and worked well with my full coverage foundations. P1830 discounted to P1593 with shop voucher for 4oz (around 118ml)
6. Kiko Milano Long Lasting Eyeshadow Stick - New HG! This did not budge AT. ALL. Kahit tumulo yung pawis ko sa may eyes ko, this didn't fade, melt, or transfer. I had this all over my lid and it's a bright color so halata talaga if mawala siya. Color payoff is also amazing; no need for multiple swipes unless you're extra like me. Got compliments for my eye makeup even during the evening. Now I want to buy this in every color lol. Around P700
7. Y.O.U. Sunbrella Outdoor Sunscreen Spray - I use an active so I knew I had to get a touch-up sunscreen that wouldn't mess up my makeup. Bought this coz this dried down the best on my skin, and worked really well for me. Nung humahapdi na mukha ko from the prolonged sun exposure, I sprayed this and it helped. Sprayed on my face and shoulders twice, and it didn't disturb my makeup or make me overly oily. Worked really well even my guy friends were borrowing it. P399
8. Revlon Oil-Absorbing Volcanic Roller - HG. Tbh I really thought gimmick lang toh, but I was desperate to get my makeup to last throughout the whole wedding na nagpa-budol na ko when the SA said you can use this on top of my makeup. Wedding day I learned that some products are really worth the budol. Did not disturb my makeup at all, and absorbed my oiliness completely. I was able to do 3 full passes throughout the day before bumigay siya and I had to wash it na (yes, that's how oily my skin is lol). Mahal lang compared to other oil control sticks, but I've tried the Sassy Cosmetics (P200), and after 1 full pass, I had to wash the Sassy Cosmetics one na. So may difference din talaga sa quality based on the price. Around P800
Other things to note:
  • DO A WEAR TEST. And make sure to include the whole skincare routine you'll be doing during the wedding every time. I was doing wear tests for 2 weeks leading up to the wedding. Make sure to simulate the environment as much as you can, e.g. outdoor wedding = no AC wear tests, go outdoors
  • Labas pasok ako sa aircon so I experienced a lot of drastic temperature changes during the day as well.
  • I was very strict with my skincare routine leading up to the wedding because the best base is still a solid skincare regimen.
  • I didn't use any actives week of the wedding because I knew I'd be exposed to the heat the whole day.
  • HAND HELD FANS WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE. I had 2 para pag namatay yung isa, I had a back-up. Lo and behold, I did need the backup. Also helped the sunscreen spray dry faster

I plan to join a tournament (open-sheet) where Regulation F is still in play. I want to get feedback on my team and their builds (IVs, moves, and types). I am reconsidering the value of my Farigiraf since it is mainly used to lock certain moves with Imprison, and that's its only role; maybe there would be better alternatives for them.

2024.05.16 06:11 Stanley232323 Daily Community Tiering Post Day 29: It is I, Invader Whim'! It's Whimsicott!

Hello again everybody!
Before we get started on today's post the current voting for GengaMega GengaDynamax Gengar has seen votes for A tier start in a strong lead and not really let up on that lead since. Also the previous day's vote for Toxtricity/Dynamax Toxtricity has ended up with Abstaining votes in the lead.
So with that being said it's looking like the Gengars will be headed for A tier while the Toxtricitys will go back onto the radar list for a future vote. Like with all previous votes I'll continue to check the numbers and if anything changes I'll update it on tomorrow's post.
(Please note that this voting/tiering is centered around Classic as after a certain point in Endless only about 5 Pokemon and 2 abilities are truly viable.)
So current tiers are:
S tier - Garganacl, Cloyster, Skeledirge, Gholdengo, Tinkaton
A tier - Gyarados/Mega, VenusauMega/Dyna, Aegislash, Corviknight/Dyna, Excadrill, GardevoiMega, Toxapex, ScizoMega, GengaMega/Dyna
B tier - Kanto-Persian/Dynamax Kanto-Meowth, Weavile, Starmie, Rhyperior, Quagsire, Mamoswine
C tier - Linoone
F tier - Dustox
With that being said let's get to today's vote!
Today is day 29 of tier voting and today we will be talking about the poofy-hair fairy from generation 5 that was one of the first Pokemon to make notable use of the now well-established Prankster ability. Whimsicott has an okay typing (although it does have a 4x weakness to Poison), some decent bulk and a good Speed stat at the trade-off of lackluster attacking stats. However its movepool does offer it some good utility options and high-power moves to compensate for the rough attacking stats. The main claim to fame that Whimsicott is well-known and liked by people to use it for though is no doubt the Prankster ability which it gets as a regular ability, and its signature move Cotton Guard which boosts its Defense by 3 whole stages at once. On top of that this game goes ahead and gives it more utility options in the form of egg moves as well as a really good STAB attack and rounding out with a dual-functioning coverage/utility move. Its Passive ability in this game is interesting as a bit of a double-edged sword. It does greatly increase the Pokemon's physical bulk but also turns one of the Pokemon's natural 2x weaknesses into a second 4x weakness.
(Please note that Pokemon with Mega/Dynamax evolutions will be tiered as one Pokemon and not tiered separately for their Mega/Dynamax form. Different variants such as Alolan Persian vs. Kanto Persian will be tiered separately however.)
(Also here is the post with rules for voting/tiering posts and a little more explanation about them in general: https://www.reddit.com/pokerogue/s/0LNZhPPzR9 Links to past votes can all be found here as well in comments added to the OP with each new vote)
And here is a quick reminder of what each tier generally means:
S tier: Top tier, can make or break your entire run, essentially the cream of the crop
A tier: really strong but not quite top tier, maybe slightly outclassed or has a slight weakness holding it back
B tier: solid choices that can make it to your endgame team, might be reliant on team composition to truly function well or might just be outclassed as well
C tier: usually early-mid game Mons, ones you don't really want to take to end game if you can avoid it, usually pretty decently glaring weakness but something redeeming enough to keep from F tier
F tier: no reason to use in end game unless you're doing it for a meme/joke
Abstain/No Opinion: this will be a voting option mostly just in case someone accidentally votes and then can't remove their vote (I've noticed that happens on Reddit sometimes) or for Pokemon people haven't unlocked/used to their full potential yet. If Abstaining votes outvote each individual tier then the Pokemon will be tabled for the time being and another vote will open up for it later (can mostly see this happening with Legendaries).
*
Whimsicott
Type: Grass/Fairy
Mega: No
Dynamax: No
Starter cost {Cottonee}: 3
Possible Egg moves: Sleep Powder, Parting Shot, Pollen Puff, Seed Flare

Passive Ability: Fluffy - this Pokemon takes half damage from contact moves but takes double damage from Fire type moves (Fire type contact moves will deal normal damage)
Evolution: Cottonee evolves into Whimsicott with a Sun Stone
Base stats:

2024.05.16 03:36 Alone_Forever5295 Dry powder inhaler, shakes

Anybody switched to the new dry powder inhaler and now getting the shakes whenever you take it. Kind of like a buzzing feeling all over my body.
My breathing is so easy it’s almost too good. Never had this with aerosol inhalers.
Switched from a normal blue and brown steroid inhaler to a single Pink Fostair Nexthaler 100micrograms.
Edit: I took 3 puffs in a row of my aerosol blue and now have the shakes too, perhaps I was never really getting the full dosage.
