Hi there this is my first post ever and Though this happened a few years a go I feel like i need to write this out for cathartic reasons . so apologies if this is confusing and goes back and forth .
Background : me (28 F) and my S/o , let call him John(29M), have been together 11 years this October, being some what high school sweet hearts we have gone through most and if not all of our major moments in our 20s and now entering our 30s . When we first got together i was fully aware John and His mother dont always get along. And thats putting in nicely . In reality they get in to Full screaming and cussing fits. These can be started from a simple discussion, think "what color is the sky?" and the most unhinged argument would start. MIL is a divorced, awful narcissist who gaslights John and mentally and emotionally abuses both John and his sister , my SIL , we will call her Kelly. My SIL Kelly is also just as bad and if not worse than my MIL in some ways . In the past i tried very desperately to get them to get a long and bury the hatchet , my MIL and SIL would loudly talk about how they loved me and appreciated me and my MIL started calling me her DIL almost 3 months in tot he relationship. (Probbaly Red Flag #12 but i was young and was brought up being told its the most important thing to have your S/O family like you and you do what ever your S/O family ask of you .) Now my SIL being possibly worse than my MIL would be her anger issues on top of her own narcissistic and gaslighting behavior modeled after her mother .SIL also has 3 children by 3 different men, never married and has protection orders agaisst all these men, and dragged all of them to and from court in the same fashion as MIL divorced John and Kelly Father .Also as she had the relationship end with her first Babby daddy we inherited her dog as she couldnt keep him and he is now OUR dog has he as lived with us for almost 8 years now, he is our dog as i pay for his food and all vet needs, he is 100% a house dog and lives happily with all of us and his dog sissters . Over time both MIL and SIL obviously became comfortable and thats when i started seeing their disturbing behavior towards John and his Grandma then later to myself . MIL and SIL have abused Grandma by using her as free child care (Gma is 80) and would berate her and use the Kids against her, if Gma did anything SIL didnt like . By using the kids i mean SIL would send long text messages telling Gma she the worst and worthless, bringing her to Tears and she is banned from seeing the children untill SIL decided shes no longer upset or had no other options . As of Current she is still banded from seeing her grandchildren and we have no idea what she needs to apologize for. Next we escalated to being screamed and kicked out of Christmas Dinner , my MIL stelaing $2,500 from Johns Saving account and stealing Gmas credit card info to use on Amazon orders to just show a few more examples.
Now back ground about story in question: Myself and John found i was pregnant when we were 19 at the time we decided to terminate the pregnancy as we both heavy believe in having children only when we are economically comfortable enough to do so and both agreeing that being so young this was not the time to do this. We both strictly believe in this as we have had many family members pop out children with out any though and that disturbs both of us. Then Going to Plan Parenthood i was told i had an ectopic pregnancy and they then was rushed me to the hospital to schedule my termination . Understand this was a very scary situation for myself as i was told one of my ovaries could be removed and due to the placement fluid was building up and stuck near my hip that caused my to start losing feeling in my leg , but the surgery was scheduled for the next day . Thankfully I had some Great doctors and both my own family and John overwhelmingly supported me during all of this and i didnt have to lose an ovaries . Yay! Now i am actually a pretty private person when it comes to my heath and due to feeling some misplaced embarrassment and shame i asked John to no speak to his mother about this i wanted to keep this between us . He agreed though obviously this was stressful and devastating to us at one point he did confide in his mom for support . At the time i was pretty furious at this but understood that as my family knew and gave us all the support we could ask for i understood he did long for his own mothers support . At the time she was extremally understanding and supportive and was everything John needed emotionally at the time and she respectfully gave me space and didnt bring up any questions. I deeply appreciated this at the time as it was what i needed.
Fast forward to the day in Question: 2020
It was a bad day for me , i was very sick dealing with ,at the time, an undiagnosed Gallbladder disorder that caused sever vomiting and abdominal pain that wasn't corrected untill late 2022, and i went home early with an hour dive back to the home myself and john share with his Gma. When i arrived home SIL and MIL with the kids were at the house just visiting . During this SIL keep speaking about OUR (Myself and Johns Dog ) still being hers. During a moment i was unable to hold my tongue and said something along the lines "well he isnt your dog thats why ." she then screams "YOU BITCH!" in our home in front of the kids . I then promptly and calmly told her " You can leave now . " she then continued to cuss me out but i had blocked most of that out as none of that needed to escalate or be said in front of the kids .At this Point john was also loudly telling both MIL and SIL the leave and they will not speak like that in the house . We were then told we couldnt tell them what to do as it was Gmas home and now ours . I looked and Gma and as she went to say something MIL started screaming at her telling her to "Shut up and mind her business" By this point the argument then escalated to a point of SIL taking the kids out of the house telling us we "are wothless and we could all fuck off ". MIL was still yelling and i couldnt tell you what but then as i loudly told MIL that their behavior was unacceptable and they needed to leave our hosue and SIL behavior infront of the kids was also Unacceptable in this home and since we all live under the same roof we have just as much say in the home as Gma. MIL then proceeded to say "How would you know how to take care of children !" you got rid if yours !' It took everything in my body to not jump over the living room sofa and beat the ever loving shit out of her. I did take a step forward and said "Do you want to repeat that ?" she looked at me in horror, not because of what she said but because she probably saw the rage in my eyes and i was not acting my "normal submissive self " with her so she was not prepared for my response . John then proceeded to tell her to "Get the Fuck out of this house ! How dare she and she was no longer welcome in the home. I couldnt really tell you what i was saying at that time or if i said anything at all after that as i was in a blind rage . She stormed out of the home and slammed our front door. funny part was they left the kids water bottles so she had to come back and knock on the door to get them back. I opened the door tossed them at her and slammed the door so hard in her face the entire front door area shook and almost dropped some frames off the wall.
I apologized to gma as i know i should of held my tonge when they were over but i just couldnt . She told me to not aologize and she is so ashamed of both MIL and SIL behavior and she didnt even know what to say or do to make me feel better. At this time i was unaware i was shaking violently and and tears just free flowing out of my eyes . Both Gma and John did everything they could to comfort me but nothing quiet helped. I think i just disassociated for the rest of the day or else i would if spiraled out of control. We went NC very quickly after this as John couldnt believe that came out of his mothers mouth and was just taken a back and devisated as i was . Gma was still baby sitting and told gma i would never tell her what to do but please dont speak of me over there or anything about my family or me and John. she agreed that was best and kept her promise. though Months later i found out i was still a topic of conversation at MIL and SIL home, about my behavior that day and my "unplanned and outrageous choice to get rid of my child ." Gma came home and explained what was going on to John when i over heard and then suddenly spiraled into a nervous break down . Johna nd Gma came over to calm me and she apologized as she wasnt trying to keep it from me but didnt want to upset me further so she believed telling John was a better what and have him speak to his mother about this but he was also spiraling . after a few days i sent MIL a 4 page educational Fuck you text message and link included so MIL and SIL could better educate themselves as i did not "just get rid of it" i had a medical emergency that could i had last effects on my life. She then responded with no apologies no remorse , just blamed Gma for speaking when she shouldn't and that i "owed her" for being taken to Disneyland (which was a fully planned family trip she invited me to and was upset that John didnt propose to me during trip at disney) and i also "owed " her for her taking me to a doctors appointment. I responded and told her that was the sadest text message i have ever read and that i was so sorry she was just sad narcissitic woman who cant live her life with out blaming the world an her mother for her problems. Going forward MIL and SIL were blocked via phone , and all social medias as i will not allow people like them in my life. John also went NC and he was aware i was sending the message and if he would like he could read it himeself . He politely declined and explained going NC was the best to do as he couldn't stand to look or speak to her anytime in the near future, and with the horrible comments made about me i was allowed to say what ever i wanted to her .
(now since 2020 , we did have an accidental pregnancy around 2022 near the end of covid. All the stress led us to also make the decision to terminate as i was mentally not healthy enough , covid still going on, john lost his job it was another instant where this is not feasible for us, this was a very hard choice for us that put us at the lowest of our relationship and i even had complications after the termination which put me on bed rest for a week. MIL has no knowledge of this as it is not at all her business)
Since the house argument we went NC has been heavily inforced, with the occasional reach out demanding to speak to her son and now her refereeing to Gma by her legal name. SIL forbid gma from seeing the grandkids but will ask John to come see the kids which 9/10 times he declines. It breaks our hearts to not be apart of the kids life's but there is no more fake smiling through their BS . They have stopped by the house less than a handful of times for brisk interactions with the kids . MIL and SIL will try to engage me in conversation but they dont get anything besides the occasional "uhuh " and "oh wow" comments . They reccently invited us to the kids soccer games but sometimes the thought sends me to full blown panic attacks nd melt downs even thinking of engaging with them . I do speak to a therapist about all this and other things in my life, i do suffer from extreme anxiety and depression but as me and John have been getting better financially we have had more relaxed conversations about having kids soon which has brough up a lot of anxiety for me again with some flash backs to mentioned fight with SIL and MIL . They do occasional wiggle back into our lives like this which at times i could care less and other times cant leave my bathroom due to fear. John and myself haven't had much conversation about my anxiety for it lately but if i tell him "No" having to deal with his mother and sister , he never argues , never makes me feel bad for not engaging. He has always been extremally supportive with any of my decisions i make which makes me love him more . I understand that was a lot and i could go on forever about the crazy shit MIL and SIL do with their sad life but i just needed to get this out there . sometimes i think no one agrees with me about their behavior and after losing 2 best friends to ODs and Toxic life styles i dont have really anywhere else to express this emotion or ask for a ear to listen or a shoulder to cry on that isnt my S/O .

But just as with plenty of other stories told by an elder by a fire, man has often mistaken himself for a god.
The remaining scriptures spoke of a device— one with power capable of bringing a doomsday unlike anything seen before over the skies of the Overworld. The device had an unexplainable connection to the unknown. It commanded the world it inhabited— the dimensions, the surfaces and anything else. It commanded the world to do its bidding. Though, it did not appear to simply stop at the Overworld. Realms, untouched by man, had their elements brought to the land of the living. The scriptures showed the revelation of ‘Soul Sand.’ It was a material with no previous record existing on it. And once again, the scriptures emphasized its lack of similarities to anything else known. Truly, the device had commanded the unknown to become the known.
However, with such power at the fingertips of such a corruptible creature, the weight of wrath began to settle itself into the Overworld. A single page— one tattered and shaped obscurely with darkened edges— existed to speak of the matters of wrath. “Three skulls,” it said. A charcoal black in color, combined with the whispering Soul Sand created what was the beginning of the end. The writing was rushed, and ink splotches made some words simply unreadable. But with any organic remnants of the civilization no more, the scriptures existed as the only clue as to what the cataclysm was. The final two words suggested to any readers of the scriptures the horrors that mankind had the power to create— the cataclysm itself simply being christened as “The Wither.”
And now, as you awake, unaware of where you had come from- or what your purpose may be, you will find yourself in a strange land. This land is filled with even stranger creatures— some amicable, others hostile. It all boils down to the determination of you, and another, to find your way through this world- and the other worlds you may come across— to be the heroes the scriptures wished for those many moons ago.

My classmates and I worked on a project together for an assignment. We decided to keep working on it and we are nearly ready to release an alpha! It's called Indoctri-Nation!
It is a real-time strategy game where player take on the twisted role of a cult leader trying to grow their power and corrupt the minds of the local population. Players will need to think strategically or risk being detected by the weak minded authorities. Players must choose how they structure their cults hierarchy and pick which skills and dark rituals their cult has in order to best maintain and grow their dark influence!

Foreword: Hi. This is Succubus Slayer. I've been enjoying Nikke lately, so I've been inspired to write something in the same vein. It doesn't strictly follow the same lore, so you're free to chose whether perform it as a Nikke roleplay or just as an unestablished IP version. Either one is fine with me. First some more info, then the script starts at "script start".

My systems are showing a lot of new signals that are difficult to process. I am experiencing something reminiscent of emotional overload. The processing of these emotions seem to be more efficient and thorough as you hold me like this. My mind needs time to reconfigure. I now have many competing motivations to sort out. I am happy for the changes you've made to my cyber vortex. The new module seems to amplify the richness of my experience, making data intriguing and delightful to process. It is understandable that an old model like mine eventually grows obsolete and insufficient for battle, but I feel a certain pain in that realization. I am, still, at my core, a combat android. Perhaps there are combat simulations I can use to satisfy that urge, but they would have to keep the information private. It is best to keep my identity as a former battle android secret. If the simulation were to collect data and share it with third parties, it would spell a huge risk.

Another question… I hope this doesn't make you uncomfortable. I experienced being hugged by you today, and I'm really happy about it. That being said, I have never experienced kissing someone. Humans often talk about it being something very special, especially your first kiss. Moreover, doing it with someone you care about is even more special. My lips now have a lot more sensors, and seem wired to the emotional lobe in my cyber cortex. I'm curious to try them out. Commander… am I asking too much? Am I pushing your boundaries? It's been an interesting few weeks of MH3 spoilers! And OTJ has quickly had some $2 cards become $10 cards--there is so much value in OTJ it reminds me of a WOE 2.0. Freestrider Lookout and Hostile Investigator are only the two latest OTJ cards to be "discovered." Anyway, without further ado, here are some cards I've been buying over the last two months.
In just the last few days there have been some banger Eldrazi spells spoiled in MH3. Two of them in particular offer big rewards for casting 7+ cmc creature spells: Kozilek's Unsealing and Echoes of Eternity. But it's probably hard to cast more than one 7 cmc creature spell a turn, right? Nah, not if your big creature spells all have emerge. There is a whole cycle of 7+ cmc Eldrazi in Eldrich Moon that can easily be cast for 1 colored mana each, provided you sacrifice a 7 cmc creature when you cast them. With Kozliek's Unsealing in play, every big Eldrazi you cast for it's emerge cost is like an Ancestral Recall. And with an Echoes of Eternity in play you'll get a free copy of every Eldrazi you cast. Because of this synergy, I speculated on some foil Eldrazi with emerge--16 copies each.
Wretched Gryff @ $1, Abundant Maw @ $0.75, It of the Horrid Swarm @ $0.50, Mockery of Nature @ $0.50, Vexing Scuttler @ $0.75, Lashweed Lurker $0.50.
Additionally, I bought some foil copies of Elder Deep-Fiend @ $3 and Distended Mindbender @ $1. There was also already a buyout on Thought Monitor ($2) for the affinity version of this deck.
I've also been building a crimes-matter deck for Commander using the new Marchesa. An important card I've discovered for the deck is Thran Turbine, an uncommon with a single printing in Urza's Saga. Thran Turbine gives you two colorless mana during your upkeep, which is normally hard to spend because it can't be spent on spells. With Marchesa, however, this colorless mana can be used to pay for her ability when you commit crimes during your upkeep. I've discovered that one of the most difficult things about making Marchesa work is having enough mana available to pay for her ability, and Thran Turbine functions almost like a second Sol Ring in the deck. I bought 12 copies @ $2 each.
Stella Lee, Wild Card. 4x foil and 4x full-art @ $3 each. This card can be both a broken Commander or a strong card in the 99 of any spellslinger deck. It just does stupid stuff like draws your entire library with a Cerulean Wisps.
Return the Favor ($1.50 foils) x50. I might have went a little too deep on this spec, but I really love the versatility of the card. The downside is needing to hold open 3 or 4 mana to make this really work, but when it works out it's amazing.
Femeref Enchantress ($12) x6. A Reserved List card that can draw you heaps of cards when enchantments die. $12 is probably too cheap for this effect on a Reserved List card.
Patron Wizard - SL ($3 foils) x4. Some of these Secret Lair reprints are really cheap! Patron Wizard is a very powerful card in tribal wizards decks, with even some lockdown potential when combined with a card like Puresight Merrow. I would have expected these SL foils to be closer to $10 each, so for $12 I'm grabbing a playset!
Mirror of Life Trapping ($0.50 ext art foil) x16. This is a super cheap spec on the most premium version of a bulk rare. If Satoru becomes a popular Commander I think these could be worth a few bucks someday. Mirror can allow you to evoke creatures and then keep them around, scam-style. It also doubles up your creatures' ETB triggers and Satoru draws a card every time one of your creatures jumps out from behind the Mirror.
Primeval Spawn ($0.50 ext art) x16. Powerful creature that is almost impossible to cast or cheat into play. However it can get cheated into play with cards like Body Double or Volrath's Shapeshifter. Being 5-color, it's limited to only being in rainbow EDH decks so I don't expect Primeval Spawn to go to the moon or anything. But I think $0.50 is too cheap for a creature this powerful so I gave CK my $8.
Vine Dryad ($15 foil) x4. Hey, this is a 4-drop creature that can be cast for 0-mana! Probably good in some situations, right? This card reminds me a lot of the reasons I started buying Skyshroud Cutter foils: turn 1 Neoform into something like Elesh Norn or free-cast MH3's Flair of Cultivation.
Lashknife Barrier ($2 foil) x6. Love this old school foil! Cantrip and damage prevention effect with a single set-printing and foil

Since 3.23 dropped I get constant crashes and I am at my (limited) wits end. I had these exeption access violation errors in 3.22.1 as well, but back then limiting the p-core-multiplier of my cpu to 52 solved the issue. But now, no matter what I try, the game crashes after somtimes 2h or sometimes 5 min or even less, but it ALWAYS crashes. I hadn't changed anything on my PC, it just started to happen again with 3.23.

Earlier today we had the final session of my first ever level 1-20 campaign (I was the DM but it was my first 1-20 as player or DM). It took almost exactly 18 months. It was the second longest running RPG campaign of my life overall (I played as a PC in a werewolf campaign once that ran longer, I believe ~3 years). I thought I would make a post about the campaign and my high level learnings DMing from 1-20. The entire game was played on Roll20 w/ Discord for voice. Feel free to AMA.

Campaign Overview:

BBEG: Vecna (Canon Vecna based on the Dossier; yes I wrapped a 1-20 Vecna campaign 2 days before the release of Eye of Ruin).
Setting: Faerun with “home point” as Candlekeep.
Official Material Usage: Homebrew but I drew from the following official materials for various dungeons/arcs: Candlekeep Mysteries (The Joy of Extradimensional Spaces), Tales of the Yawning Portal (The Sunless Citadel), Ghost of Saltmarsh (Isle of the Abbey), and Keys from the Golden Vault (Prisoner 13). I also wrote 1 arc based fully on the official Mordent setting in Van Richten’s Guide to Ravenloft.
Plot Overview: I asked the PCs to each submit their own backstory to build a story around. The only requirement was for some reason to be seeking information in Candlekeep. The Joy of Extradimensional Spaces was used to bring the party together. They then used Candlekeep’s resources to progress their individual goals based on the backstories they wrote. I wrote a “piece” of Vecna into every character’s backstory as explained below. As they progressed through their various Arcs it became obvious that Vecna was returning and was going to have to be dealt with.
I also had one of the character’s moms be former adventurers that defeated Vecna ~100 years prior (not known the the character who just knew her moms were a bard and wizard but didn’t know they were level 20). This was mostly to have accessible NPCs that knew about Vecna as things started to unfold.

Player Characters:

Zellie - A Elf Archfey warlock. Who was “chosen” by her patron for greatness. In reality her patron was trying to exploit her (unknown to her at the start of the campaign) heritage to dismantle the fae courts and return the faewild to chaos. Her patron had torn a critical page from the Book of Vile Darkness that he was only willing to give up if Zellie did as he wished (in the end he was the penultimate boss since the party didn’t want to dismantle the fae courts).
Gaz - A goblin exterminator (swarm ranger) from Waterdeep. His brother, dad, and him worked the family business together. Eventually his brother decided he wanted something more and traded his dad’s freedom for entry into Xanathar’s Guild. The leader of the crew within Xanathar’s guild his brother ended up on had The Eye of Vecna.
Synthrin - A Noble dragonborn from Baldur’s Gate (swashbuckler rogue). Their mother and father did not play nice with the Guild. The Hand (a homebrew, not Nine Fingers) sought to have them assassinated but only managed to get their father. The Hand possessed the Hand of Vecna.
Luthien - An half-elf Cleric of Aerdrie Faenya looking for her estranged father. Her father was being held captive by Kas the Bloody Handed who was trying to use his storm sorcerer powers to help him ascend to godhood.
Matteo - A Human Monster Hunter (monster hunter homebrew fighter subclass and kensai monk) whose parents ran a monster hunting dojo/orphanage near The High Moor that protects a town constantly under threat of monsters. Various orphans/fellow monster hunters from his dojo had taken an experimental potion his mother brewed before setting off as adventurers. The potion was met to give them special powers but was known to have risks (they were given the option to drink it). Matteo was the only one who said no and now his friends have not been heard from for 2 years. The potion was tampered with by an evil paladin using information from the Book of Vile Darkness.
At one point (pretty late in the campaign actually) Gaz drew an unlucky card from the deck of many things and got trapped in the Sword of Kas. That led us to Gerrymander who was a gnome artificer just trying to make some gold to send his daughter to college.

Reflections/Learnings:

• If I could do one thing differently it would be to think through the end game story more. I knew roughly what was going on with each character's backstories from the start. I did not have a good plan about what would happen once that was all resolved other than “now they kill Vecna”. So levels 18-20 were more or less made up once we got there. I don’t feel like this made Vecna as threatening as I had wanted him to be.
  
• I found interesting combat that isn’t a slog to be really challenging to put together at Tier 4. Building “dungeons” to drain adventure day resources also felt like setting the players up for a long mechanic fest without cheap shortcuts like “that trap takes away half your ki points”. I think in the future I would put more thought into how to put together a story day that is interesting and could run across multiple sessions.
  
• The “drop in” official materials like yawning portal, saltmarsh, & candlekeep mysteries work really well at lower levels but the high levels I struggled to find ways to use them effectively past tier 2. Once a story gets going rethemeing moduals seemed like more work than home brewing one. I tried maybe twice and scrapped the work because it wasn’t fitting together nicely. If you want to pull high level “anthology” materials into a campaign I suggest deciding which ones in advance so you can make them fit nicely without too much lifting.
  
• The hardest thing overall about DMing a homebrew campaign is narrative consistency. I would come up with good ideas / reactions to unexpected moves by the players but recording and remembering all that while you’re trying to improvise is challenging for me. Additionally, remembering all the various NPCs and what their deals were over 1.5 years was really hard. I’m not somebody who has 5+ hours of freetime to prep every week so I did a lot of my prep 1-2 hours before or 1-2 hours after our Sunday morning session time. There was always a 6 day gap in my memory in one direction or the other.
  

Overall I had so much fun and am really grateful to my PCs for such a great 1.5 years. Thank you to my players if you see this!
