Sore throat enlarged lymph node dizziness

Unexplained elevated troponin?

2024.05.20 06:11 Sea_Towel2647 Unexplained elevated troponin?

26F. Super healthy before all of this happened- long distance runner, running 6 times per week. Had the flu at the end of Feb (Covid negative at this time), recovered after 1 week or so then went back to normal. A week or so later I got Covid. Covid was mild- no fever, just sniffles and sore throat. No matter what I tried, I just couldn’t get back to normal after Covid. Running would be okay for a week or two, then would feel like garbage. Then 3 weeks after Covid I started getting dizzy and had blurry vision. Had a MRI and CT which were both clear. Even saw ophthalmology and an optometrist, eyes were totally fine. Was told to just keep on resting and I would feel better. Fast forward to 6 weeks post Covid. Went for a run and had significant heart burn, nausea and dizziness. Went to the ER and found out that my troponin was at 841. Within 48 hours troponin went back to normal (high sensitivity test- was at 52 at discharge). Cardiologist said it was viral myocarditis even though I was negative for COVID and a bunch of other common viruses. Chest MRI and X-ray were both clear- neither showed signs of myocarditis. Vision continues to be blurry and I’m quite tired. My legs are also super achy. Last Covid vaccine was in 2022. Went back to emergency today because of new chest pain. Troponin was at 7. Have any docs seen something like this? Does it sound like viral myocarditis?

2024.05.20 05:31 IntelligentTry9443 Thyroiditis?

I was hoping to talk to people who have had thyroiditis to see if my symptoms match. I do have an appointment to see my nurse practitioner but that’s not for a couple of weeks and I want to ensure i ask the right questions and ask for the right tests.
I have been dealing with symptoms for over a month and I am driving myself mad not knowing what’s going on.
Background: Feb/March 2024: dealt with two stints of severe throat infections, one of which was treated with antibiotics and steroids (due to swelling in the neck)
Since March/ April 2024: developed symptoms: -feeling of fullness in neck, especially sides and front -constant swollen sublingual and cervical lymph nodes -front of neck (thyroid) feels swollen -fatigue -neck feels swollen after long period of speaking -neck and lymph nodes feel very swollen after exercising
Has anyone else experienced something similar? What has helped ease symptoms? How were you diagnosed? What tests should i request?
Many thanks!

2024.05.20 03:51 JLD0098 34M. Neck and intense ear pain. GP Had no idea, now what?

For about 3 weeks I've had a sore /swollen lymph node on one side of my neck and throat. About a week ago I started getting ear pain / pressure on that same side and it's gotten worse since. Went to see my primary and he had no idea, offered a bunch of guesses and script for azithromicin just in case and sent me on my way. Did say lymph node was definitely swollen but was in normal reactive range. Looked at my ears quickly and nothing jumped out.
Curious what this could be, and what my next step is.
Should I follow back up with same GP, try to see an ENT doctor?

2024.05.20 02:38 ithurtswhenip6996 Help with heart/lung issue. Please.

Hello everyone. 24, Male, 270lbs, 5'11", quit smoking like 2-3 months ago.
So I'll start from the beginning. On June 22nd 2023 I moved to USA from a country in Europe. Everything ok at first, no issues at all. Used to live with a couple of people and it was all good. On October 1st I moved to another state where i was alone.
It was around March when I started feeling dizzy, vision was "blurry" like my peripheral vision was somehow bothering me and I was tired. I've been to an Urgent Care where they took some blood samples and did an XRAY of my chest. I posted pics with them but they looked like they are okay (normal for a 270lbs man).
After, I went to a cardiologist that did an echocardiogram and an EKG. He said everything is fine and gave me some Meclizine 12.5mg for dizziness.
Went to get my eyes checked for my peripheral vision and they said it's also okay. When I try to read something I just lose my focus also.
A week went by and some friends from my country visited me. During their stay I felt nothing, it felt like I had zero issues. They left and time passed by. Last week, May 10th I got a bit sick, with a sore throat, I lost my voice for like a day or two, had a little bit of fever but felt better after.
The problem now is the following. My blood pressure (I've been monitoring it home) ranges from 120/70 to 150/90(for example when I take it the first time might be 150/90 but after 5 minutes it can be 140/80 for example). My throat goes sore like I'm hoarse before going to sleep and when I wake up, but during the day is ok. I have crazy shortness of breath now, my eyes are again bothering me like I feel that something it's not normal.
When I do some effort, even the slightly effort I just can't breathe. Yesterday I went up 10 stairs, down 10 stairs and lost my breath. Went back in the apartment so I can take my blood pressure out of curiosity when I couldn't breathe and it was 180/99/89. When I do workout in the gym, the first minute cuts my breath but then I am not tired at all, I am okay and I can breathe normally, it's only that I'm just yawning quite frequently. After the stairs incident yesterday, been to the gym, did my workout cardio, climbed 11 floors and 5 min after my workout I took my blood pressure and it was around 140/80 (forgot to save it). Also when I press with my finger in the middle of my sternum, kinda hurts a bit but it feels like it's the bone that hurts from the pressure.
I will post pics with the EKG, Echo, Carotid Duplex, Blood Samples, everything.
People told me it's literally from anxiety/stress since I am alone and so far away from family. What should I do? The shortness of breath that I have right now I can really feel it, and it's bothering me so much.
BTW, I want to mention that I have a cat and we live in the same room, but I don't think it's from the cat.
Thank you very much!
There are the pictures with everything.

2024.05.20 02:27 Sea_Kaleidoscope2786 I think I have hpv and im spiraling

Long story. 26 (f) Ten days ago had unprotected anal and vaginal sex. First time fully doing anal and my partner was pretty rough throughout. First thing I noticed was what felt like a cut down my gluteal cleft. Was soaking in lavender Epsom salt because that’s all I had. Hasn’t gotten better. Eventually by day 6 or 7 I was getting bumps around my vulva and anus. Burns to use the bathroom, anus is sore, and it’s certainly uncomfortable to sit. Bumps don’t ooze or bleed. For that week after sexual encounter I wasn’t wearing underwear, and I tend to be pretty sweaty and moist down there as it is. I also am on my feet and constantly walking at work. The lesion on my cleft isn’t unusual. If I’m heavily sweaty especially during the summer, I get irritated and I usual catch it before it gets too raw. Haven’t had an issue this bad in years, but I think this time is from being spread too wide during sex. Also engaged in oral sex and don’t have any legions in or around my mouth. Seems I have a swollen lymph node on the right side of my groin too. I did a full std panel this past Friday and will attempt to get into my gynecologist this Monday. Already left a portal message. My partner has no symptoms. Mentally I’m not handling this well. Physically I’m just so uncomfortable and in pain. I feel ashamed and disgusted with myself.

2024.05.20 01:44 blueeyeliner Birads 5, waiting on biopsy results

Hi! I’ve been lurking for a bit, but I’m sitting here losing my mind so I figured I’d jump in and post. I found a lump about 3 weeks ago in my right breast, I had a diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound on 5/14. My report read:
Spiculated mass at the 11 to 12 o’clock position of the right breast approximately 6cm from the nipple with associated heterogeneous microcalcifications. Measures approximately 2.0 x 1.9 x 2.5cm. Additionally there is an enlarged right axillary lymph node. Bi-rads 5: highly suggestive of malignancy
I was sent for a biopsy of the mass and of the lymph node on Thursday. Now I’m waiting for results and I’m a mess! I’m 44, last mammogram in April 2023 was normal. I have three young kids and I’m trying to keep it together but it’s so hard. Anyway, just wanted to post and say hi. Lots of love to anyone else awaiting biopsy results!
Edit: I can’t type.

2024.05.20 01:18 SubstantialRange8708 Final Cure Attempt (Bleach)

For the past week I've been adding bleach to my shampoo. I'll massage my scalp with the shampoo and get it foamy, then I'll take bleach, add it to a small cup and dilute it with water, and rub it into my scalp with the foamy shampoo and letting it sit for around 5min. It will dry your hair so make sure you use conditioner. This around twice a week along with daily sprays of 70% alcohol when my hair dries after shower and benzoyl peroxide has done the most for my scalp in years.
Will be testing out diets like keto/carnivore while doing this regime as I believe it has something to do with my immune system since my lymph nodes are always enlarged.

2024.05.20 00:36 stvncummings Nodule found in Bowels

Finding's after CT ABD+PEL W CON:
IMPRESSION: 18 x 13 x 11 mm lobulated soft tissue nodule in the right lower quadrant small bowel mesentery. Although this most likely represents a reactive mesenteric lymph node, an early mesenteric carcinoid cannot be excluded. Lab tests to rule out carcinoid tumor, described above are suggested including urine collection for 5-H IAA measurement
FINDINGS: LOWER CHEST: No pleural effusion or pericardial effusion is identified. Lung bases are clear. ABDOMEN/PELVIS: HEPATOBILIARY: No focal hepatic lesions are demonstrated. The gallbladder appears unremarkable. There is no evidence of significant biliary dilatation.
SPLEEN AND RETROPERITONEUM:The spleen is normal in size. No focal splenic masses are demonstrated. The pancreas appears normal without evidence of mass or inflammation. No adrenal masses are demonstrated. In the distal small bowel mesentery near the ileocecal artery and vein there is a small lobulated soft tissue lesion measuring 18 mm transverse dimension with a craniocaudal dimension of 12.6 mm and an anteroposterior dimension of 10.9 mm. Differential diagnosis includes an enlarged mesenteric lymph node (most likely) or small mesenteric carcinoid (less likely) . In favor of an enlarged lymph node is the presence of other scattered mildly prominent lymph nodes in the small bowel mesentery. This does not have the appearance of mesenteric adenitis but could simply represent reactive mesenteric lymph nodes to a current gastrointestinal illness. I recommend performance of lab tests for detection of serotonin, chromogranin A and urinary 5-HIAA to exclude carcinoid or other neuroendocrine tumor. Additionally, a follow-up CT the abdomen and pelvis in 3-6 months is suggested to determine if this soft tissue lesion remains present or regresses in the interval. Spontaneous regression would indicate a benign reactive lymph node.
The inferior vena cava is unremarkable. The aorta is normal in caliber. BOWEL AND PERITONEUM: There is no evidence of abnormal bowel dilatation or bowel wall thickening. There is no evidence of significant free fluid or free intraperitoneal air. The appendix is normal. PELVIS:The bladder appears unremarkable. No pelvic masses or abnormal fluid collections are demonstrated. No pelvic or inguinal adenopathy is evident. MUSCULOSKELETAL AND EXTRA-ABDOMINAL SOFT TISSUES: Within normal limits for age.
I'm 32M (Just turned 32 yesterday actually).
I know this is a lot but it's been quite the year for me:
I had an awful bout of covid in March/April and actually had to go to the ER (had scans because my lungs, chest and ribs were killing me) - they were all clear and then a covid test came back positive. Also had awful coughing fits almost constantly for over a week.
Then in late April (around the 24th) I had a chunk of a rotted molar fall out (wasn't able to financially take care of a cavity previously), went to the dentist and was put on a round of antibiotics for infection (3x a day for 7 days) - bad fatigue /brain fog started around this time and was only recently getting a little better. Had that tooth pulled on May 3rd + and am over a few weeks in recovery at this point.
Saw doc for checkup back in January and had elevated/high blood pressure (which runs in my family). At this point I was 214lbs and eating awful everyday...I'm talking fast food, ice cream daily, junk food, no veggies, etc.
Immediately overhauled my diet (which looking back I don't think was a good idea - should have eased into things) and went from a sedentary lifestyle to eating lots of vegan options + exercising almost daily. Started drinking way more water. Dropped down to 186-189lbs in about 3 1/2 months.
Saw doc a few days ago and was down to 172lbs - give or take a few pounds (42 days after last weight check). I am now trying to course correct a little and up my calorie intake because I don't think I've been getting proper nutrition (enough protein specifically + calories per day). Still physically active.
I got the CT scan in the first place because of off and on pain I've had since Covid19 (on the opposite side of where the nodule was found mind you)
I have a family history of Crohn's disease (mom said at least 6 people) and IBS/gut issues (my mom and grandma and several aunts) - immediate family is on meds for their issues. We also all have hemorrhoids.
Also had a colonoscopy when I was 15 because of tummy issues I was having
I have no symptoms like bloody stool, vomiting, diarrhea
Except now I'm extremely anxious (diagnosed anxiety disorder) so that's for sure effecting my stomach. Also haven't slept much the past few days.
I just wanna know if anything I've experienced this year could explain this..and also a better understanding of the findings. It appears the surrounding organs and everything else is fine. I think?
Trying not to google too much. I'm making an appointment with Oncology tomorrow

2024.05.19 21:58 xLadyLaurax Dogs possibly allergic reactions got better on cortisol but substantially worse on antihistamines. What's going on??

My dog is an 8 year old, male, neutered Pomeranian. Ever since we got out second dog (don't know if it has anything to do with it, but just in case I'm mentioning it) my dog kept getting sick. He started coughing - dry and loud - and one day we got up and his eyes were horribly infected. We instantly went to the vet and his lymph nodes were swollen and his eyes infected. He got cortisol drops for the eyes (3x daily for a week) and some liquid we put in his food (wetened with water) to help with the throat pain, as well as 3 shots to help with immunity.
Within a week his eyes were better again, his lymph nodes weren't swollen anymore and he seemed perfectly fine. But about a week or so later, the coughing was still happening and when we went to the vet his eyes were a little infected again. We did the eye-drops again and a few days later they were fine again. The vet suggested an allergy could be causing this. As a test she put the pup on cortisol pills, and said that if the symptoms went away, it was (probably) allergies.
She suggested it might take a week for the cortisol to take effect, but within 2 days the couching was down to once or twice a day and by days 3 and 4 he was completely cured. I let her know and she told me to get off cortisol and give him antihistemines instead (betadorm), and also to watch out, as it could make him sleepy. He's been getting the pills for about 4 days and not only did it not help with his allergy symptoms, I feel like the coughing is even worse than before and his eyes are slightly infected AGAIN.
I just don't understand what could be going on. He's also getting Trazodone, but he took that before the allergy symptoms and also during the cortisol episode without any symptoms, so I don't believe it's that, but I figured I'd mention it regardless. I'd go to the vet, but due to holidays they are all closer and the couching sounds horrible. How can I help my dog?

2024.05.19 21:07 GayBro97Yo Advice on HIV anxiety/ medical advice

Hello,
Please delete my post if this breaks any rules - I need some ways of coping with the stress of not knowing my status as of now. Here’s some background for everyone, I’ll do it from the beginning as I don’t know how else to do it:
I’m 26, male, gay. On 14th of April I’ve met a guy and had unprotected sex with him. I was passive. I know he was HIV+ve but he told me he was undetectable. Prior to this for about 3 weeks I was taking PreP daily which I only stopped 3 days prior to meeting him (I had some stuff happening) and restarted it an hour and a half before meeting him.
Fast forward two weeks, I get a high fever, vomiting, aches all over and a massive headache as well as a sore throat and swollen lymph nodes. I didn’t immediately connect it back to him but I started finding out that unfortunately he’s a drug addict a stoner and frequently misses his meds - I am not judging at all so please don’t take it as such but that planted a seed in my head.
When my main symptoms went away (roughly day 15/16) I was left with aching everywhere and a sore throat that had continued on and off since then. It’s almost like the more I think about it the more it happens.
I am now in this IMMENSE black hole of constantly googling stuff related to HIV. I have done a test on day 32 which was a 4th generation test from my finger. This came back negative.
Yesterday, day 36 I’ve noticed white spots at the back of my throat.
I can’t stop googling, researching and finding more reasons as to why I am positive. I keep reading about how prep delays the detection window which is why I don’t trust my negative result.
I am just looking for people to give me some ways of coping with anxiety as it’s taken over my life. I am at work and I can’t stop thinking about it no matter what I’m doing. I keep randomly breaking down into tears. I wake up in the middle of the night and think about having it.
I understand having HIV is not a death sentence - I think it’s the anxiety of not knowing. If I knew I could then start moving on, but for now my life has been put on hold and I’m just paralysed.
I have another test at week 6 (+5days) and I’m already finding reasons as to why it won’t be definitive.
For me, it’s just way too many coincidences for me to not be positive and I just wanted people to essentially tell me what to do, please.

Prostrate Problems – A Comprehensive Guide for Men's Health
The prostate gland is a walnut-sized organ. The organ is the male reproductive system and helps in sexual function and urination. With age, the prostate undergoes changes that lead to various health concerns. This informative guide explores the most common prostate problems, empowering you with knowledge and promoting early detection and treatment.
Understanding the Prostate
The prostate gland is below the bladder and surrounds the urethra. A healthy prostate is essential for male fertility and urinary control.
Common Prostate Problems
Many men experience prostate problems as they age. Here's a closer look at the three most frequent issues:
  1. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
BPH, or enlarged prostate, occurs when the prostate gland grows more significant than usual. It causes several bothersome symptoms, including:
  • Frequent urination, especially at night
  • Difficulty starting urination
  • Weak urine stream
  • Urgent need to urinate
  • A feeling of incomplete bladder emptying
  • Dribbling after urination
Causes and Risk Factors
The exact cause of BPH is unknown, but it's believed to be linked to changes in hormone levels as men age. Here are some factors that increase the risk of BPH:
  • Age: The risk increases significantly after 50.
  • Family History: Having a close relative with BPH increases your risk.
  • Lifestyle: Obesity and lack of exercise may contribute to BPH.
Diagnosis
Early diagnosis of BPH is crucial for effective management. Diagnosis typically involves:
  • Digital Rectal Exam (DRE): A doctor feels the prostate for enlargement or abnormalities.
  • PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) Test: This blood test measures PSA levels, which can be elevated in BPH or prostate cancer. It's important to note that a high PSA doesn't necessarily mean cancer.
  • Uroflowmetry: The test measures the rate and volume of urine flow.
Treatment
Treatment for BPH depends on how severe the symptoms are. Here are some options:
  • Watchful Waiting: If symptoms are mild, monitoring may be sufficient.
  • Medication: Medications can relax the prostate muscles or shrink its size.
  • Minimally Invasive Procedures: These procedures use heat or steam to destroy prostate tissue.
  • Surgery: Surgery becomes necessary in severe cases to remove some prostate tissue.
  1. Prostatitis
Prostatitis occurs due to inflammation of the prostate gland. The inflammation causes discomfort with symptoms like:
  • Burning sensation during urination
  • Frequent urination, especially at night
  • Pelvic pain
  • Pain in the groin, testicles, or lower back
  • Difficulty starting or stopping urination
  • Painful ejaculation
Types of Prostatitis
There are three main types of prostatitis:
  1. Acute Bacterial Prostatitis is the least common type, causing sudden and severe symptoms. It requires immediate antibiotic treatment.
  2. Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis: This type involves recurring bacterial infections. Treatment involves long-term antibiotic therapy.
  3. Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome/Chronic Prostatitis/(CPPS/CP): This is the most common type, and the cause is often unknown. Symptoms may be constant or come and go. Treatment focuses on pain management.
Causes and Risk Factors
The causes of prostatitis vary depending on the type. Here are some potential contributing factors:
  • Bacterial infection
  • Nerve damage
  • Muscle tension in the pelvic floor
  • Unknown factors (CP/CPPS)
Diagnosis
Diagnosis of prostatitis often involves:
  • Urinalysis and urine culture to detect infection
  • Digital rectal exam
  • Prostate massage (not always performed)
Treatment
Treatment for prostatitis depends on the type. Here are common approaches:
  • Antibiotics: For bacterial prostatitis.
  • Pain medication: To manage discomfort.
  • Alpha-blockers: To relax prostate muscles and improve urine flow.
  • Lifestyle changes: Reducing stress and avoiding irritants in the diet may help.
  1. Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is common among men and is second only to skin cancer. It's generally slow-growing, and early detection is crucial for successful treatment.
Symptoms
You will often find no symptoms in the early stages. In later stages, it may cause:
  • Blood in the urine
  • Difficulty starting or stopping urination
  • Weak urine stream
  • Frequent urination, especially at night
  • Bone pain (especially in the hips, lower back, and thighs)
  • Pain during ejaculation
Risk Factors
Several factors increase the risk of prostate cancer, including:
  • Age: The risk increases significantly after 50.
  • Family history: If you have a family member with prostate cancer, it substantially increases your risk.
  • Obesity: Men with excess weight are at higher risk.
  • Diet: A diet high in red meat and processed foods may increase risk.
Early Detection
Early detection of prostate cancer ensures successful treatment. While the PSA test is commonly used, it could be more foolproof. Here are two critical methods for early detection:
  1. PSA Test: A blood test that measures prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels. An elevated PSA can indicate cancer, but it can also be caused by BPH or inflammation.
  2. Digital Rectal Exam (DRE): A doctor feels the prostate for enlargement or abnormalities.
Diagnosis
If a PSA test or DRE raises concerns, further tests may be needed, including:
  • Biopsy: A small sample of prostate tissue gets removed and examined for cancer cells.
  • Imaging Tests: Imaging tests like MRI scans can help determine the extent of cancer if present.
Treatment
Treatment for prostate cancer will depend on different factors. The factors include the cancer's stage and aggressiveness. Some common approaches include:
  • Surgery: This may involve removing the entire prostate gland or nearby lymph nodes.
  • Radiation Therapy: High-energy radiation therapy kills cancer cells.
  • Hormone Therapy: The treatment shrinks the prostate or slows cancer growth.
  • Active Surveillance: This involves monitoring the cancer closely without immediate treatment.
Maintaining Prostate Health
While there's no guaranteed way to prevent prostate problems, some lifestyle choices may help:
  • Diet: A diet of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains helps prevent cancer. Limit red meat and processed foods.
  • Exercise: Regular physical activity improves overall health. It reduces the risk of prostate problems.
  • Weight Management: Maintaining a healthy weight to lower your risk of BPH and prostate cancer.
  • Stress Management: Chronic stress can worsen prostate symptoms. Yoga and meditation help manage stress.
  • Regular Checkups: Schedule regular checkups for prostate exams and discuss your risk factors.
Conclusion
Prostate problems are a common concern for men as they age. By understanding the different types, their symptoms, and risk factors, you ensure good health. Early detection and treatment help manage prostate problems effectively.
Don't hesitate to discuss any concerns with your doctor. Taking charge of your prostate health is crucial towards a healthy and fulfilling life.

2024.05.19 17:39 Agitated_Front7197 Really sick after MA 4 days ago

Hello, I had an MA on Wednesday when I took the misoprostol pills. On that day, I was bleeding a lot and cramping and passed some clots. Fast forward, I still have some light bleeding and light cramping. On Friday, I started feeling sick like I would get a fever but my temp never actually went up to 100. Last night, I had really bad congestion, runny nose, muscle ache, swollen lymph nodes, and it was hurting to swallow, and yellow nasal discharge/phlegm. I went to the urgent care this morning to get checked and tested negative for strep throat and doctor said it could be a viral infection. I was not prescribed any antibiotics and was told to take over the counter medication to manage the symptoms. I am just wondering if what I’m feeling could be any way related to my medical abortion. I am worried that I could have an infection or an incomplete abortion and this is how my body is reacting to it. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Has anyone ever experienced something like this.

2024.05.19 16:09 enemenemoo Terrified of Surgery: Should I Get My Tonsils Removed?

Hello everyone,
I've been dealing with strong acute tonsil infections several times a year for several years. Since about six months ago, these acute infections have subsided, but now I have a latent infection. My tonsils are very irritated, especially in the mornings and evenings. Sometimes my lymph nodes swell, and exercising can make the irritation worse—it's like drinking spiced water, you can really feel your tonsils.
The pain isn't severe, but it's always there, making me constantly aware of the irritation. About a month ago, I had a really bad two-week episode of tonsil pain, but then it went away again.
I have a surgery appointment to get my tonsils removed, but I'm really unsure about it. The surgeon has tried to convince me not to go through with it, and I've already been to the hospital twice and canceled another two times. They've told me all sorts of scary things to make me want to avoid the surgery.
I'm conflicted. I could live with this mild ache and the thought that I'm too scared for the surgery. I could endure 2 to 4 weeks of intense pain a few times a year. But I'm scared of the surgery and I don't know if I should go through with it.
I'm not a severe case, but I've had several infections over the past three years, with the last one and a half years being particularly tough. It's gotten better, and I can live a somewhat normal life again. But this constant throat irritation, the feeling of my tonsils being irritated, and the low-level pain—I don't know if I should accept this for the rest of my life.
I'm really confused... 😭
Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

2024.05.19 16:03 AdInteresting2502 Journey so far

In case it helps other newly diagnosed, this is my journey so far. 1 month ago ultrasound of new lump I had in left breast. Told I had invasive breast cancer. Then sent for mammogram where they found 3 dodgy lymph nodes on left side as well, along with another suspicious lump in right. Sent for biopsies on all the lumps (no one told me before these just how much they hurt or how sore you are after, I recommend taking someone with you). Cancer confirmed in left breast and 3 lymph nodes and oestrogen and progesterone positive, but HER2 negative. Right lump still undetermined. Met with surgeon and sent for PET scan to ascertain if spread. This 1 week wait whilst waiting for the results was the most god damn terrifying of my life!! Met with surgeon again, PET scan showed no obvious spread. 4 days later I had double mastectomy and what I thought was removal of 3 lymph nodes. Woke up and was told all 23 lymph nodes on my left side were cancerous and they also performed auxiliary lymph node clearance on left side. I am now 2 weeks post surgery, and I am not going to lie- recovery from it has proved both physically and emotionally tough. They put implants in same time as mastectomy. In 2 days I find out next stage of the treatment plan and apparently I will have to have radiation and chemo. I feel extremely lucky I caught it when I did, and cancer is such a sneaky farker, as she said she would not of gone down the cure path (surgery), but just the medically manage path is she knew it was in 23 lymph nodes (phew). I still have a long journey to go, but my big tips from what I have already been through - the time waiting for the test results is beyond terrible, and once you know what you are dealing with it will get better - if you have an option to not work, or take leave from work, defo do that (I would not be able to manage both myself) - take someone to your appointments with you - recovery from surgery is hard, so be kind with yourself - if you have lymph nodes removed, it is even more painful, but so important to exercise those arms whenever you can - I am on day 16 post surgery and I am getting better everyday. SO WILL YOU - be kind to yourself, cancer is a lot I got this, and so do you my sisters ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

UPDATE, Blood tests, CRP etc.
So I had sore movable lymph nodes in my neck and groin, the rest of my results came back do these look alarming? tested negative for mono, but I believe it indicates I have a bacterial infection? I do have a g.i condition that correlates to Gastritis or some infection, now I do have elevated liver enzymes times due to pcos, so a weird test wouldn't be surprising.

2024.05.19 11:18 PowerMinute1922 The Man who screams at Daybreak

My last flat was unbearable.
I mean, you try having a family of 11 live above you, when half of them are under the age of 8. Also try having a pair of raging alcoholic neighbours on either side of you. A pair who were once married to each other. My eyes rivalled that of pigeons’ due to no sleep.
I lasted a total of 21 days. I know, new record huh? I just about shoved the keys back in the grubby hands of my landlord when I finally saw the lunacy inscribed on his face. No wonder the rent was dirt cheap.
So I was back on the road, not on the streets though. Luckily enough I started questioning the flat by day 8, looked around for another place by day 15, and made a decision to get the hell out on day 18. 3 days of packing and it was bye-bye.
My new place seemed all the better too: yes, the rent was more expensive, and yes, it only has 2 bedrooms. But at least it was a house, one where pesky neighbours were at least 5 metres away. On my right, at least. On my left? Their house - thankfully - couldn’t even be seen where I stood.
Parking my car, I skipped up towards my new house with my fresh set of keys. And on entering? Silence. Perfect still silence. Thank the Lord. I basked in it for a while before returning to my car, unloading some of my baggage. It took 3-4 hauls, but I managed to fit it into one of the bedrooms. Thankfully, the rest of my things were to be brought by moving vans in about an hour.
I envisioned what the house could look like with a few finishing touches.
“But first…”
I eyed the 2 rooms. “Mine!”
The room I had chosen to be mine gave a bright view of my own smaller garden, as well as a portion of my right neighbour’s house, but that didn’t matter much. The view in the other room would suck: just my car and some reeds.
I was just about done heaving some of my baggage into my newly-chosen room when the doorbell gave an obnoxious ring. I stood, fighting the urge to just run away into one of my rooms when it beeped again.
Reaching the door, I eyed out of the peephole to see nothing but an opaque whiteness. I guess the downside in this house is that the last tenant was a slob. I eyed some of the yellowing walls. Sighing, I opened the door.
“Hello! We’re your neighbours, Jack and Sally, and we live just there,” She motioned towards my right, “We came to introduce ourselves, and to let you know that if you ever need anything, we’re right here.”
She then shoved a basket full of biscuits at my chest, a motherly-smile stretched around her lips. She turned to leave, husband - clearly forced to follow her - in tow, when she turned around.
“Your name, dear?”
“Leen!” I shouted after her.
“Perfect.”
And perfect it was, I thought. Neighbours that respect their distance from you, and give you food? I eyed the delicious snacks in front of me. Definitely an upgrade.
Though it was at dawn the very next day that I woke up, shook.
~
See, I was just sleeping in my newly delivered bed when I heard it. Something that sounded like a bird, a huge caw, before it alternated into different pitches. Disoriented, I tried to wipe the sleep from my eyes in order to focus better. But it just made me more confused.
It sounded like a chicken.
As far as I know, this new place was not the countryside, nor farmland. So what? And why?
I stepped up to my window to take a good look outside. I wouldn’t keep a rooster in my home that’s for sure. Whatever it was, it was coming from…
My jaw dropped.
I closed my eyes and scrubbed at them harshly.
Please tell me why I opened my eyes and saw the exact same thing.
A man, on his haunches, face pointed towards the sky, was making rooster noises.
And he was on my neighbours’ garden. The ones I met earlier.
He looked absolutely demented. I wasn’t even scared then, just flabbergasted. I wasted no time calling the police at this disturbing nuisance.
When they arrived though, I saw my neighbours’ shoot straight from their house, speaking or…was it pleading? With the officers. What on Earth..?
Anyway, it was their problem now, so I went back to bed. I had a whole bunch of chores the next day, and had to get it all sorted before I returned to work.
Shutting my eyes, I wished for peace. And quiet, thank you very much.
~
At last, I woke up at 10 AM. By 1 PM, I had sorted my clothing into its respective drawers, and had decorated my bedroom walls, including a new golden addition. And now? I had food cooking on the stove. It felt satisfying, having cleaned up and now awaiting the prize of food.
I scrolled on my phone as I waited for the pasta to cook, before another ding turned my attention towards the door.
“Huh, what now?”
Unfortunately I hadn’t cleaned the peephole yet, so I had to open the door. There stood Jack and Sally. Or Sally and Jack. Jack looked lost. Sally stared deep into my eyes.
“Was it you?”
“Me? What do you mean?”
“That called the police last night?”
I recalled the past night, and gave her a thumbs up, hoping my smile was reassuring. “Yep, don’t worry, that lunatic will not be coming back ever again. He can go to the zoo if he wants to squawk.”
I should’ve taken the cue from Jack’s paling face, but Sally grabbed hold of me. “Listen here, okay? That man, the one you called the police on...” She trembled, “He’s my son! You can’t do that! He was not even on your property!”
My eyes widened. “He’s…your son?”
“Of course! How can you not see that?”
Nodding at her, I relinquished myself from the hold she had on my arms. “Okay then, sorry for the call. But I do have to mention something,” Jack started to shake his head behind his wife, but I ignored the little-to-say man, “Is there any way you can keep the noise down to a minimum? Honestly, your son has vocal cords of steel! It would wake the entire neighbourhood at this rate.”
Sally stared pointedly at me, then took a look around my house. “Very well.”
She grabbed her husband’s arm as she turned to leave, and I caught the slightest look of fear in his eyes before he was abruptly pulled away.
I dismissed it - and the sinking feeling - on discovering my very soft, overcooked pasta when I came back into my home though.
I managed to also do one thing before wrapping up: I cleaned out my door's peephole. Now I wouldn't have to open the door to know it's them. I'd just speak at them from the inside if they were to come back.
~
I woke, jolting out of my bed the very next morning, or night. I checked my bedside clock to see it was 3:50 AM. The cock-a-doodle-doo was breaking into my head. I grasped my hair in frustration, knowing that I didn’t have the madman’s parents phone numbers’ to call, or maybe scream at them. It was the exact same thing as the day before! Except…maybe…
I strained my ear.
It sounded a lot closer.
My hands, for some reason, became clammy instantly, and the urgent thumping of my own heart - the fragility of my own life - became all the more prominent.
I tiptoed to my window and peeked outside. Nothing.
I then slowly treaded to my spare bedroom, and pulled the curtains apart. Zilch. Nada. Though…
Almost as if under a spell, my head turned towards my main door. I…I could somehow feel it. Just to confirm though, I peeked out of the door-hole.
And with a slam, I collapsed in my new, dream home.
~
When I came to, I was lying on white sheets, and a bright white light hung over me.
A hospital.
I was in my own room, which I found odd. It was not like I needed it. But then a doctor walked in, followed by 3 other people, and it all made sense. Everything - blurs and sureness - melted into a perfect picture.
Sally, Jack, and their son.
He couldn’t be more than 17 really. Though he looked 37 a few hours ago. Face pressed against the glass of my peephole, mouth wide open towards it, eyes pointing in different directions as his face reddened and contorted.
I was deaf in one moment. Then came the COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO.
Of course I fainted. Who could blame me?
“Good afternoon, I’m Dr Lam. You’re in A&E right now. Are you able to tell me your full name and date of birth?
My voice answered the Doctor’s questions, but my eyes stared dazed at the youngster’s abdomen, not daring to reach his its eyes.
“Well, nothing seems to be wrong with you. You may have just been dehydrated. Did you have any headache or pain before you fainted?”
I replied in the negative.
“Luckily, your friends’ son had found you passed out, and ensured your speedy arrival to hospital, so I wouldn’t be worried about any damage.”
My eyes finally strayed, looking towards the ground. I held the nauseousness of bile down my throat. Following a brief check-up, I was allowed to leave.
And 2 people and a demon followed me out.
“Well, Leen, that should give you a lesson,”
Sally.
I turned towards the family, who stood in a 3 person arc. Only 1 managed to look away, equal parts shame and guilt. I don’t need to mention who that was.
“Don’t worry. You can look at me, I don’t bite: not now and not at dawn,” a strained voice whispered at me. “I promise, it’s only at dawn when I…when I…”
“Hush Dean, don’t work your voice that much. You’ll need to save it for later.”
I was still dizzy. That didn’t stop me from running half-hobbled to the taxi stand, where I begged and claimed to many that I would provide double payment if they were to take me to my house.
It took a while, but I managed to pack some of my clothes. There was no way in hell I was sleeping at that damned house again, not now, not ever. I called and booked at a nearby hotel in the meantime.
I was done packing necessities by the evening. Walking out of my house, I saw no sign of those three. I would have been relieved, had I not come face to face with than one thing: standing in my garden, leaning against my car. My breathing picked up instantly.
Dean
It stood with its back resting against my car. And It noticed me immediately. Seems like it was just waiting for me to notice it.
“Are you leaving?” It sounded almost sad, but I needed it to move away, or my only way out of there would be in jeopardy.
“For the night.” My answer? Almost smooth, but even I could hear the first shake in my voice.
It nodded though. “Okay.” And he moved from my car. I counted the distance. 1 metre. 2. 2.5-
It made a sudden dash at me as I - in flight response - ran frantically to the driver’s seat, locking the door. I came in half-squashed, my backpack still on my back. But I didn’t care.
Its face was pressed against the window.
“Mum is waiting for a person that will like me for me, not run away. You’re supposed to like me.” It said, matter-of-factly. It then wailed, and sunk beneath the car window.
I did not dare to sit up and see what it was doing.
I didn’t even need to though. The sound came a split-second later.
COCK-A-DOODLE-DOO
Tears spilled from my eyes. My limbs felt weak. I couldn’t even breathe. It suddenly sprang up to the window. Eyes enlarged: looking at me and everywhere at once.
“I can actually tur-COCK- in the day too, but M-DOODLE- said it would be too much for you,” wheezing, it exclaimed again before adding, “but this is ME. Do you-do you, do you like me?”
With dead limbs I weighed my foot on the pedal, and jump-started the car to speed off. My head shook left-and-right in response, stomach heaving with nausea.
Human preservation kicked me into taking proper control of the car when I saw, out of the rear view mirror, Sally. This time with a rope, which locked around the creature’s neck before she tugged, drawing it into her house. At one point we locked eyes. And what do I mean by we?
Answer: the 2 of them and me.
It was honestly a miracle that I did not get into a road traffic accident.
I spent 3 days living in the hotel after that, my job long-forgotten in the aftermath.
By day 4 I broke down and called my older sister, asking to stay at her place for a while. Her house and area seemed fine the times I’d stopped over. I guess I clearly did not seem right though, as she many-a-time asked me what was wrong. My answer? Stress. She persisted, years of living together as kids helping her figure out my lies, though she ultimately gave up after a week. She knew it was something I didn’t want to share, and that I was safe now. That was enough for her.
For me? I guess at the time I so badly wanted to tell someone. Though it couldn’t be my sister. I didn’t want to cause any trouble. Nor see if she’d even believe me, or instead rank me at the same IQ level as her two 5-year-olds.
For a few weeks, I stayed with my sister and her family, reassuring both her and myself that I was fine. Thankfully, we worked together to find a small apartment. Next to a kids school too - bonus points. I now craved safety above all else. After moving out though, I realised I needed my belongings back.
So, who picked up my stuff from that cursed residence, you ask? The moving people. I called the police from a random phone booth first to head over to that area, emphasising on seeing some suspicious looking men, whilst I got them to collect everything. I did not dare to call the police on that family though. I would prefer if the link between me and them got cut, drawn and quartered.
So now I’m here, in an apartment which thankfully hasn’t shown any sign of insanity. Inspecting my belongings, I noticed that there was one thing missing.
My gold frame, used to encase my make-shift certificate - made by yours truly after her 21-day record from the previous apartment - was gone.
I felt somewhat miffed, but then I realised something.
Something which can maybe bring the light out in this whole situation.
I counted carefully. I broke my record.
With a grand stay of 2 days. Now that - that I don’t think I’d ever be able to beat.

2024.05.19 07:08 Katieray10 Hi! Don’t know much about CFS yet!

I am 20F. So I have been diagnosed with POTS and recently learned about PEM. Suddenly some things made sense: the random times my lymph nodes on my neck swell up and my throat hurts are probably actually just PEM. It literally feels like the flu- body aches and all. I have even ran a fever with it before. I also meet all the criteria for EDS.
For years now I have went through these random phases where I just CANT sleep enough. I constantly will wake up tired and I slept through so much of my senior year of high school it’s not even funny. Yes I worked and took dual credit classes but no matter what I was exhausted. I don’t do this too often but when it happens it is so hard. My joints already hurt all the time so, I just figured it was EDS. I have also been diagnosed with ADHD but now I am second guessing it. I was diagnosed with the inattentive kind, (what used to be called ADD) but it’s mainly forgetfulness, brain fog, trouble staying focused, etc.
All the comorbidities for EDS and POTS also run in my family. Such as GERD, ASD, Arthritis, MCAS, ADHD, etc. Not looking for a diagnosis, I just don’t know much about this!
