Alcubierre is best known for the proposal of "The Warp Drive: Hyper-fast travel within general relativity" that was published in the science journal Classical and Quantum Gravity. In this, he describes the Alcubierre drive, a theoretical means of traveling faster than light that does not violate the physical principle that nothing can locally travel faster than light. In this paper, he constructed a model) that might transport a volume of flat space inside a "bubble" of curved space. This bubble, named as Hyper-relativistic local-dynamic space, is driven forward by a local expansion of space-time behind it, and an opposite contraction in front of it, so that theoretically a spaceship would be placed in motion by forces generated in the change made by space-time. - WIKIPEDIAHis paper has been followed up by HUNDREDS of other peer-reviewed papers. - Since it can bend spacetime, a symmetrical, spherical gravitic gradient will BEND LIGHT. Set up the layers properly, and it can bend light right around your ship! The Romulans came up with this one... We call it CLOAKING. An Alcubierre drive generator ought to do this quite well. It would also demonstrate 'gravitational lensing' around the cloak's periphery.
- Terraforming planets like Mars will prove futile, unless you can give it a magnetosphere. There is a method to do this easily; Put a 1 Tesla magnetic field generator at Mars' L1 LaGrange point. While you're there, turn on your Alcubierre drive! Create a 9000-mile wide area of refraction and increase the solar energy striking Mars' surface threefold. This 'Gravitic Lens' has other uses;
- Telescopes that can see the edge of the universe. The ability to make refractive 'lenses' of virtually any arbitrary size could allow for telescopy on various wavelengths with amazing light-gathering capability.
- Creating a gravitational 'point source'. You can use your Alcubierre drive to bend space, and deflect the path of an asteroid, or other object in space. Hell, you could make a 'broom' and orbit it a few times around the Earth in a retrograde orbit, and clean up all of the space junk. Space Sweepers takes on a new meaning here.

Platform(s): Downloaded on my FIRE HD 10. May have also played it on my old Kindle (unsure of the exact make). I have the default Appstore and the Google Play store on my Fire, and I know I downloaded it from one of those.
Genre: Escape Game
Estimated year of release: I don't pay much attention to creation or development dates, so all I know is I played this when was younger. That puts the timeline for anytime from the 2000s go late 2010s. Most likely from 2010s though.
Graphics/art style: Attempt at realism. Like you knew it was fake, but the backgrounds had a lot of details and were reminiscent of their real-world counterparts. It took place in nature (a forest?), so most of the art was trees and such. Also lots of rocks (some i think had symbols that were part of a puzzle) and a rivewaterfall or two. (There may have been a rock cluster similar to the Stonehenge??) It was usually pretty bright, as in they seemed to really like adding sunlight or sunbeams for light.
Notable characters: Unless I am completely mistaken, there were no other characters. I don't even remember there being animals. Just you and the wilderness.
Notable gameplay mechanics: First person. I guess you would say slideshow-style? Like most escape games make you click on arrows to move across locations/perspectives, and I remember this game being the same. There was an inventory on the left-hand side with all the items you collected. I'm fairly certain each item got its own box, so you just scrolled across the side to see everything you had (and click on what you need). There also could have been a hint button (lightbulb icon) that created a yellow/glowing circle to show where you needed to go, but that may have been a different escape game entirely. Also, I think there was a way you could use a ladder or rope to climb up one of the trees to get an important item? It was probably one of the first steps of the game. Finally, the main point: you could change seasons in this game. Sadly I cannot remember how you switched between them, but I remember it was an integral part of the game. (e.g., I'm about 85% sure that river I mentioned froze in winter time so you could walk across it.) It also took place in a forest, so the seasonal changes were very obvious.

I (M19), and my mother (F56) have a pretty strained relationship, it feels closer to a roommate situation than a parent/child relationship as such I don't really talk to her about anything I'm going threw. She is also rather verbally abusive calling me pathetic and other names in fits of rage and saying I should forgive her because she's stressed about life and work. Recently her phone has been on the Fritz and has been using my phone recently for calling her fiance and friends. I am gay, I've known for a couple years now, I feel no romantic attraction but I feel sexual attraction to guys, so I've downloaded apps as one does and talked to dirty to a few guys, I've only met in person with two and we mess around with each other, no sex. Also I feel I should mention these guys are older, mid 20's to early 30's, ik not super great but I'm an adult and it's what I'm attracted too.
As my mother was hanging up with her fiance she says she 'saw' a message from a guy. I doubt this cause I have notifications turned off cause they annoy me. Okay, to the main reason for this post. 1- Script Mods ARE enabled. I have quadruple checked. 2- I have posted my locations of the WW folder. It is NOT too many folders deep. 3- I have tried using Itchio AND CC to download. Itchio gives me the error message posted with this. The Wicked.CC gives me the other image saying that it is there at the main menu page when starting the game. 4- At no point does the WW menu show up on my Sim's phone, or when I click on bed, etc. It is simply not there. All my other mods work, including the Hoe It Up mod. I also tried removing all mods except WW and yielded the same results. So even with the message showing up at the start-up menu, it's simply not there. Anyone else encountered this issue? The Help page for WW is useless to me. Oh, and I deleted all cache.

Sorry in advance for the long read and I hope this is the right sub. My boss has me trying to fix his suspended business listing. I'm going to be completely honest: I have no experience nor idea what I'm doing. My boss is of the older generation so he isn't much better off. All the info I have about this is coming through him, so there might be some gaps or inaccuracies since he isn't very tech-savvy; plus he is recounting stuff from years ago.
Starting from the beginning, his profile was active for a while and he even got Google Guaranteed. At some point, his profile was suspended. Ever since then, he has had problems with it. When it got suspended, he was able to get it reinstated for an hour or two, but then it would get suspended again. He went through that cycle many times with no success.
He mentioned that he hired a company called 'OMG National' to manage his listings but later stopped working with them. He thinks they might be reporting us because we stopped working with them, but idk.
Trying to fix this, I went to the Google Appeals Center and got stuck quickly. I get to the 30% mark and can't progress. It seems it wants me to select a decision, but the only option present is unselectable. In the details tab, it says 'Not approved,' which I'm guessing has something to do with it. Trying to submit a new appeal always leads me back to this impassable form.
As of now, it is suspended due to deceptive practices. There are no blatantly obvious guideline violations unless there is a technicality I'm not aware of. So I don't know what the deceptive content is all about. At one point he was using his Facebook as his website but we fixed that months ago.
Could anyone give me some pointers? I'd appreciate any help at all.

However, its -m option to prefer embedded covers does not work for webp files (which is basically my entire collection of yt-dlp-downloaded videos)--there is a long-standing open issue but no progress has been made.
Does Thunar support showing embedded video thumbnails that does not use ffmpegthumbnailer (i.e. can support webp cover embedded to mkv files)? I installed thunar tumbler and noticed it generated a different thumbnail than ffmpegthumbnailer but is still not using the embedded cover.

So I just downloaded LA Noire for PC. I used to play it a lot on xbox 360 and wanted to play through it again. Well I've been having this consistent issue with the camera being pinned aiming upward. No matter what I do, I can't figure out how to fix it. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the game, booted it without my mouse connected and then connected it after launch, played with settings, tried a controller. I don't know what else to do. To be clear, I'm not using a controller, and I have not had this issue with any other games.
I've seen other people have issues with the camera spinning, but that's not what it's doing here. It's just aiming upward to the point where I have to constantly counter it with the opposite input. If I invert the y-axis it aims down instead, which confirms that it is some sort of controller input issue. I've searched around and it seems there isn't anyone else having this issue?
Any advice on how to fix?

I heard your call for someone with relevant expertise to talk about the effects of radiation of two "suns" on Earth plants and I have some thoughts to offer. Plants per se are not my specialty, but I am a cell biologist with enough info on how they work to be relevant (I hope). TL;DR, you are correct the plants would not be happy, though honestly radiation is only one of the problems and probably better tolerated than some of the others, but these could easily be fixed by building an environmental chamber.
The radiation-specific bit:
Assuming that the radiation is not 'insta-kill' levels, the problem is primarily that it causes damage to DNA. Plants and other organisms exposed radiation from the sun and other sources on a general basis have evolved ways of dealing with this. One way is to try and prevent radiation from getting to the DNA (see e.g. melanin-producing fungi that thrive at Chernobyl). Another, used by pretty much every organism, is to have DNA surveillance mechanisms that either fix the problem or, in the case of multi-cellular organisms like plants and humans, cause the cell to self-destruct if the damage is too severe. As evolution is honestly an inelegant process that gets things to a 'workable for procreation' state not a 'beautifully and perfectly optimized' state, these systems are indeed best suited to the level of radiation damage they can expect to accumulate from our normal sun. Higher levels could cause a variety of effects ranging from stunted growth because of increased rate of defective cell division (due to DNA damage) to generation of al kinds of weird new types of plants. This is actually where many of our modern agricultural products come from. In the early 20th century a bunch of horticulturalists blasted food crops with radiation and just looked for desirable offspring generated by the mutated plants (no, this is not what is meant by the modern term GMO).
This gets to the second part of the point: of all the organisms on Earth, plants are probably the best suited to suddenly be transported to a place where they will incur lots of extra radiation damage. This is because their chromosomes are WEIRD. Humans have two full sets of chromosomes, one from each parent. 23 chromosomes x 2 copies = 46. Most animals are like this, i.e. diploid. Lots of fungi are haploid (only one copy each) or diploid. Plants looked at this system and said N00Bs! Many of them have more than 2 copies of each chromosome and are tetraploid (4), octaploid (8), or more. The fern Ophioglossum reticulatum is reported to hold the current record at 1440 copies, which is just absurd. Lots of food crops (wheat, potato, sugarcane, peanuts, to name a few) have more than 2 copies of each chromosome. In practical terms, this means they could withstand a lot of genetic damage without necessarily being too affected because they have a large information backup.
The non-radiation problem bit:
If this situation was proposed to me, my first concern would actually be circadian periodicity. Plant growth and especially flowering (necessary for any fruits or veggies) is tightly regulated by circadian rhythms and many plants are exquisitely tuned to the length of dark and light. If suddenly they are getting the wrong amount of light, flowering (and therefore fruit production) might be halted completely. In a binary star system, I imagine the fraction of time spent in "day" is probably more than it is on Earth, wreaking havoc on the ability of any plants whose flowers are involved in the part that we eat (i.e. it wouldn't matter for things like lettuce), to produce a food crop.
There is also the problem soil composition/nutrient availability. The chances of the alien planet having the right kind of soil is essentially zero, though they could certainly grow most things hydroponically and add in liquid fertilizer, but how much fertilizer of this type were they bringing (Mathas can check the inventory for this item)? And how long would that last?
This would all be fairly easily solved by just building an environmentally-controlled chamber with lighting on a timer, and I assume that would be the plan. Many greenhouses even on earth use a system like this so that they can dictate when flowers form and to keep growth more regular. On Serpo, they would just want to make sure the outside was especially shielded from any stray light/radiation.
Credentials: Cell and molecular biologist. Experience in plant, fungal, and mammalian model systems. PhD and postdoctoral research conducted at Ivies (which isn't as fancy as it sounds TBH). Now an industry scientist in biotech field.

This is actually where many of our modern agricultural products come from. In the early 20th century a bunch of horticulturalists blasted food crops with radiation and just looked for desirable offspring generated by the mutated plants (no, this is not what is meant by the modern term GMO).
This gets to the second part of the point: of all the organisms on Earth, plants are probably the best suited to suddenly be transported to a place where they will incur lots of extra radiation damage. This is because their chromosomes are WEIRD. Humans have two full sets of chromosomes, one from each parent. 23 chromosomes x 2 copies = 46. Most animals are like this, i.e. diploid. Lots of fungi are haploid (only one copy each) or diploid. Plants looked at this system and said N00Bs! Many of them have more than 2 copies of each chromosome and are tetraploid (4), octaploid (8), or more. The fern Ophioglossum reticulatum is reported to hold the current record at 1440 copies, which is just absurd. Lots of food crops (wheat, potato, sugarcane, peanuts, to name a few) have more than 2 copies of each chromosome. In practical terms, this means they could withstand a lot of genetic damage without necessarily being too affected because they have a large information backup.
The non-radiation problem bit:
If this situation was proposed to me, my first concern would actually be circadian periodicity. Plant growth and especially flowering (necessary for any fruits or veggies) is tightly regulated by circadian rhythms and many plants are exquisitely tuned to the length of dark and light. If suddenly they are getting the wrong amount of light, flowering (and therefore fruit production) might be halted completely. In a binary star system, I imagine the fraction of time spent in "day" is probably more than it is on Earth, wreaking havoc on the ability of any plants whose flowers are involved in the part that we eat (i.e. it wouldn't matter for things like lettuce), to produce a food crop.
There is also the problem soil composition/nutrient availability. The chances of the alien planet having the right kind of soil is essentially zero, though they could certainly grow most things hydroponically and add in liquid fertilizer, but how much fertilizer of this type were they bringing (Mathas can check the inventory for this item)? And how long would that last?
This would all be fairly easily solved by just building an environmentally-controlled chamber with lighting on a timer, and I assume that would be the plan. Many greenhouses even on earth use a system like this so that they can dictate when flowers form and to keep growth more regular. On Serpo, they would just want to make sure the outside was especially shielded from any stray light/radiation.

A non-noble member of the officer class, Major Karl Von-Doppelberg, had been elected to rule the County in place of a Count. Karl did not have the highest military rank, but was incredibly wealthy due to his family background, and was able to literally purchase votes.
The less intense xenophobia and more permissive atmosphere toward building meant rapid growth of an industrialized population in the city centers without having to drain the rural areas of their people to make the "Great Industrial Shift" as many of their peers had to do. Land became very expensive but labor was cheap and steel was in great supply, so the Merchants built higher and higher. Rural communities were subsidized to support the growing urban population, and a period of incredible wealth and prosperity ensued that drove even further immigration.
Kaltovar's massive wealthy population in relation to its neighbors allowed it to maintain a substantially larger military force, which came in handy during the brutal decades of civil war between the Counties. The death of the Emperor had left a power vacuum in which every County believed it was the best and most fit to inherit the Imperial throne. Huge factions formed, supporting different rulers, while Kaltovar traded with all of them and accepted the many refugees generated by the fighting. The Kingdom of Nirn, the Kingdom of Balugia, and the Republic of Thet.
A great paranoia swept the land, and it was during this period that the rule of Universal Conscription and the law requiring all citizens to own a "Modern Infantry Weapon" was introduced. At the time, that meant a bolt action rifle. One had to pay a fine of 3 Kaltmarks or 2 chickens if their household was found to have less than one such rifle for every member over the age of 16. This period also saw women and children conscripted into the military under the theory that they were capable of operating rifles in battle, which was later proven correct.
Eventually the Kingdom of Nirn decided to invade Kaltovar, which brought support from both the other factions who wanted it for themselves. Together, Kaltovar and the two factions slowly consumed the Kingdom of Nirn and then Kaltovar was again neutral. Balugia and Thet resumed their struggles, both intending to finish Kaltovar off when the war was over. Kaltovar, in the meanwhile, continued to build improvements and strengthen its military. Many years passed in the great war between Balugia and Thet, and both of them did frequent trade with Kaltovar.
After a long battle, the exhausted forces of Thet finally defeated the Balugian Royal Army and proceeded to immediately turn their forces against Kaltovar. Kaltovar defended its new lands and simultaniously invaded the former Balugian territory, which was only protected by a light occupation force meant to keep the locals suppressed. Kaltovar, being rich, paid great sums of money to the locals to rise up against their new Thetian masters. The combined peoples of Kaltovar and Balugia annihilated the armies of Thet in a relatively short campaign, because Thet was already tired from fighting against Balugia.
Major Karl Von Doppelberg celebrated the victory by declaring the First Directive of the new Nation, "From Many Peoples One Nation." which confirmed that there was no single culture to be venerated above the rest. Loyalty to the nascent State, productivity, wealth, and military competence were more important.

Vadim Bel-Khyber was, at one point, an eager young Cybernetics Professor from a long line of aristocratic merchants and military officers. He received the best education from the youngest age, and was groomed constantly to fill the role of a leader. He did not by any means reject his role as the family heir, and was by all accounts excited to take up his position as the head of House Bel-Khyber, but spent enough time in Marxist theory circles to cause minor embarrassment to his family.
When his father fell out of favor with the high nobles for losing his temper during a plenary session, most of their family property and wealth was confiscated,. Vadim's casual interest in Marxist theories of inequality turned into a fanatical obsession now that economic and social inequality personally impacted him. It wasn't just about achieving justice, which was truly part of it, but also more prominently about taking revenge against the Nobles who had wronged his family for simply [talking shit] speaking their minds.
Vadim started by getting a job as a low level public servant, and gradually working his way up to the position of Comptroller-General. He was essentially the master-treasurer for the entire nation, someone who in theory was supposed to have very little actual power. The nobles found it hilarious to keep him in this role, which was seen as unfit for one of his birth, and a mark of shame on the wider Bel-Khyber dynasty. However, they always viewed him as a coward and so never feared him - to their magnificent error.
Over 3000 years ago he instigated a coup against the government he served, though he never altered his official title. He always remained the "Comptroller-General", a position responsible for all financial disbursements on behalf of the government. Gradually, after convincing the nobles to allow him a small "Treasury Police" to catch white collar criminals, he leveraged that authority to refuse to pay for the buildings or wages of entities that opposed him on the grounds of corruption and abuse of funds. This was corrupt on his part because it was to serve his own interests, but he could not be impugned because the corruption actually existed and had merely been overlooked for decades... Enough decades to establish long chains of evidence.
Although his behavior was obviously corrupt, the citizens almost universally supported it because everyone else was even more corrupt.
Vadim worked his way to the top of the Oligarchy, and proceeded to systematically dismantle it using its own tools of control, concentrating all their authority under him and elevating himself to the status of the Supreme Ruler in the process.
As soon as his control was undisputed, Vadim had many of the Nobles and Oligarchs arrested or even killed without warning all over the country on the same night. He established control over state broadcasting systems, ordered the army to open their armories to the public, and ordered the public to go into the armories and take up weapons and "clean up the government as they saw fit."
Although that night of chaos spiraled wildly out of control, the aftermath transitioned into thousands of years of relatively peaceful rule. He originally achieved this by personally performing surgery on himself using a wireless transmitter attached to his brain-stem to enable him to control the robotic surgical instruments even as he extracted his own brain and implanted it into the state machinery.

Unfortunately, the technology was dangerously unstable and the lead scientist was under the influence of an inter-dimensional being who sought to turn his work toward demented ends. What manifested was a device capable of altering the specifications of reality, and that is what the foreign agent gained access to. The Agent wished for "A world that would start from scratch, where neither country would be hostile toward each other, and the threat of a great war between them was no more."

2024.05.20 02:15 No-Pudding7670 Passed my SIE exam yesterday! 1 week of Study!
Wanted to share my experience doing crash course studying for 7 days and passing the SIE first attempt! I never post anything on here, but others posts made a big difference for me, so here goes!
TL;DR:
I passed my SIE yesterday after only 7 days of study. Intense! I used Pass Perfect, spent 50 hours studying total. If you only have a week or two before your test, DO NOT take a bunch of notes on everything! Read the content, take the quizzes and test, take notes on those answers and explanations!
VERY IMPORTANT: Use the two free Achievable SIE dump Sheets and watch both the S7g.u.r.u and S7 Whisperer 60 min crash course SIE YouTube videos the day before or day of test! I’ve included links at the bottom of this post. Be sure to memorize the dump sheet tricks and formulas, and decide what’s most important to reference. The test center gives you two laminated sheets and dry erase markers you can use as soon as the test timer starts. Be ready to write down key formulas, acronyms, timeframes, etc. Mine were the Options 4 square box, SLoBS & BLiSS, yield teeter totter and Key Open vs Closed end market notes. (All on the achievable dump sheets except Open/Closed Markets).
My Story:
In late April I was hired by Vanguard for a position starting May 28. I’d been a contractor doing customer service in an unlicensed VG position for about 10 months (no finance background before that); with the goal of getting hired in a licensed, permanent role within a year. I worked hard and got hired! The position requires SIE, S7 and S63. After my start date they pay me to do nothing but study and take exams for 9 or 13 weeks (depending on whether I’d passed the SIE prior to start date), which is awesome, but there’s a $5000 bonus if the SIE is passed at least a week before start date.
Note: I did have a little familiarity with basic terms and what’s required for account opening, due to my contractor position).
I originally scheduled my exam for May 13. I had about a month from hire date to May 13, and VG paid for the Pass Perfect course. I started some light studying the first week, thinking I had 3 more weeks and was on track. Then I got really sick for 2 weeks! I’m talking bed ridden, definitely no studying. So May 10 I rescheduled my exam to May 18! I had to pay $40 but figured it was well worth it not to fail, lol.
I was finally well enough to start studying on May 11, giving me 7 days. 😅 I had retained very little from my initial studying so I started over. I thought “I can do this!” I figured I’d had to do similar in college while working full time. Boy it was rough!
7 Days to PASS the SIE:
The first 3 days I had all day to study: Sat, Sun and Mon (had the day off for my original test date).
THE PLAN 41+ hours 5 practice tests, scoring at least 75%
Days 1-3 (full days) - 8+ hrs per day - Complete Pass Perfect Course (16 chapters) start to finish (reading and all quizzes, chapter tests)
Days 4-5 (Tues, Wed) - 5 hrs each day (2 before work and 3 after) - Take 1-2 Pass Perfect Final exams (1 hr 45 min each) each day, taking time to focus/take notes on anything I missed - Goal of 4 total tests, with 75% or higher on 3
Day 6 (Friday, day before the test) - 5 hours (2 hrs before work, 3 hours after) - Take 1 FINRA practice SIE exam before work (free on FINRA website) - after work, Review all Difficult Topics - Listen to S7g.u.r.u & S7 whisperer on YouTube. (They each have a 60 minute crash course review, recommended for day before or day of test). - Print out Achievable Dump Sheets - add my own notes to dump sheets
Day 7 (Day of Test) Test scheduled for 2pm (1:30 registration) - 2 hours Notes and Dump Sheets Review in morning - Leave for Test at 11:30, arrive 12:30 (45 min drive) - One last Review of Dump Sheets for 45 min, take a break before registration
Great Plan Right?! Wellll, I didn’t quite stick to it. 🤣
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED: 52 Hours Study - Not at the planned pace! 4 Practice Finals (71% average) A lot of tears, anxiety and stress!😫 A rollercoaster of Self-doubt and Self-Confidence
Day 1 (Sat): 7 hrs Completed first 3 chapters, taking tons of notes on a Google doc, color coded and highlighted. I’ll do more tomorrow I thought, my brain is fried
Day 2 (Sun): 10 hours Completed chapters 4&5 again taking tons (too many) notes, taking quizzes and Tests multiple times, worried I wasn’t getting the concepts and terms well enough. Getting really worried about my pace now, but “hey I have tomorrow. I’ll crush it and catch up”. Maybe I won’t get to tests until Thurs, but I’ll be okay..
Day 3 (Mon): 7 hrs (I was exhausted and burnt out, still not 100% from being sick) Chapter 6 OPTIONS… the death of me, soooo much to learn. Barely got through chapter 6. Full panic has now set in! I have to work full time the next 4 days! If the rest of the course is this hard, I’m screwed. There goes my bonus, how will I tell my husband? (He would not have been mad but I would feel terrible). “Children and husband, do not bother me! I need to focus!” 😅
Day 4 (Tues): 6 hrs ( 6pm-12am) Intense panic and anxiety, how the hell am I going to finish?! Screw notes, get through the chapters! Completed chapters 7-10 Whew, these chapters weren’t as bad, maybe it’s getting easier. I think I remember a good amount. Better wrap this up tomorrow!
Day 5 (Wed): 5 hrs Very worried, but I’ll finish today and take lots of tests the next 2 days! Completed chapters 11-13 😫 OMG I’m still not done with the course and I have 2 days left! I must sleep.
Day 6 (Thurs): 6 hrs in the evening - Completed remaining chapters 14-16, course done 8pm. Whew, content done. Took my first Pass Perfect Test, score 71% not as bad as I thought but that’s not a lot of margin for error! (Need 70% to Pass actual SIE test). At that point I’m calculating how much each point is worth, looking up suggestions online and praying, lol 🙏
Day 7 (Fri): 7 hrs Took 2 Pass Perfect tests, reviewed missed answers carefully and took notes. Scores: 71% and 73%. Took FINRA SIE test (on their website), 69%. Omg I’m gonna fail tomorrow. 🥺
Friday night I thought “Hmm Maybe I can reschedule for Monday (the deadline to pass for bonus). Two more days and I will be ready!” So I go to the Prometrics website and try to reschedule, seeing one slot for Monday at a site 2 hrs away… awesome.. NOPE, NOT ALLOWED less than 3 days before scheduled exam! (Why did I not think of this Tuesday?) 🙄 So I called customer service, begged and told them I had been sick.. Since they said I could not reschedule the day before the test, I asked if they could cancel it and schedule a new appt for Monday? DENIED. So I took a deep breath, cried a little and came to terms with it. This test is happening, tomorrow. 😫 🤬
Friday night 9pm: As recommended by colleagues and online forums, I listen to S7 whisperer 60 min crash course on YouTube; no notes, listening in bed). Ok, learned some things, great overview/review. Maybe I can pull this off afterall. 🤔 Things are looking up. 😊
Saturday, May 13… Day of Test (2-4pm)
7am woke up, ate a good breakfast, prepared everything I needed to take and do. Now what? Should I take another practice test? Review my notes? Listen to video? I decided no more tests, I’ll listen to the other crash course (S7g.u.r.u 60 min crash course on YouTube). 🤞
8am—11:30 Crunch time. Im determined to pass this exam!! Spent 3 hours listening to the 60 min S7g.u.r.u video, pausing when needed, replaying as needed. Took 11 pages of color coded notes on the most important points and formulas I needed to remember, mainly on Regulations (what market does it impact, what type of product, who, timeframes). I knew this was going to be at least 15% of test (I was right) and these were the main questions I missed on my Practice Finals
11:30am Renewed Faith 🙌 DAMN I learned a LOT. I’m gonna pass this thing! I was already getting low 70s on Thursday practice tests and I KNOW I learned enough from the video to pass several more questions. S7g.u.r.u literally saved me, pulling it all together in my mind! 🤯
12pm Went to UPS store, printed the 2 Achievable dump sheets and my 11 pages of notes from the video! I scanned them at every red light on the way 😂
12:59 arrived at test center. Spent 20 minutes reviewing dump sheets and drilling in my mind what to put on the 2 pages they give me for notes (specifically below and in links)
1:20 walk in, first one there.. registration complete at 1:35. To my surprise, they seat me and I can start test immediately!
As soon as the timer started my hands were flying on the 2 laminated sheets they gave me. I spent the first 15 min vigorously writing out things I wanted to reference. 90 minutes left for 85 questions. Watched the timer closely to stay on pace. Used the notepad on the test platform for each question to write out calculations, or break down what each part of the question meant, used critical thinking for answer, marking questions for review when I was stuck between 2 answers. Most importantly, I followed my gut. I knew this stuff! Used calculator for EVERY calculation, even easy ones. Finished all questions with 5 minutes remaining. Reviewed marked questions and changed only 3, if I was SURE my original answer was wrong.
I hit Sum it and hold my breath. 🫢 OMG, does that say PASS?!!! Yes, I actually Passed! 😳 I cried out of happiness and relief, was on cloud 9. I will never cram like this again! S7 and S63 will be better, lol.
SO here’s how you can have a better experience than me if you’re a week or two away and wondering how you can possibly pull this off. YOU CAN DO IT! 💪
TIPS FOR CRASH SIE STUDYING (learn from my mistakes)
1 NOTE TAKING: I’ve always learned best by taking a ton of notes, color coded on a google doc. Taking notes reinforces it in my brain and helps me find ways to remember it for myself. However, if you are crash course Studying for the SIE, you do NOT have time to do this, lol. Honestly I barely looked at those notes in the end.
TIP: Read through the content quickly and only take notes when it tells you it’s likely a testable question! Take all quizzes and tests, REVIEW the quiz/test answers (in PP the answers also give you a brief explanation of the concept) and take light notes on that! Do NOT replace reading with the videos! The first 4 chapters I tried to save time doing this and wondered why I was failing the chapter tests. The reading content had way more info than the video! Don’t shoot yourself in the foot!
2 DON’T SPEND TOO MUCH TIME on EARLY CONCEPTS! The earlier (and for the most part, less valuable - less test questions) content will be reinforced throughout course. Most of the concepts build over the course, so the basics are reinforced later anyway. I wasted several hours!
3 EXPECT 20-25 hours are needed to complete the course/learn the concepts! Give yourself a day on REGULATIONS and 5 hours on OPTIONS , these comprised a LOT of questions on the test, could make or break you!
4 TAKE at least 4 PRACTICE FINALS with a goal of 75%, but if you’re not improving, use the crash course Videos, learn the content! Don’t take 5 more tests in lieu of learning!
5 SPEND A FEW HOURS on (free) ACHIEVABLE DUMP SHEETS and S7g.u.r.u & S7 Whisperer crash course review videos on YouTube! I would not have passed without these! Reviewing them for 4 hours and using them for key points on my tests sheets saved my ass!

TL;DR:
I passed my SIE yesterday after only 7 days of study. Intense! I used Pass Perfect, spent 50 hours studying total. If you only have a week or two before your test, DO NOT take a bunch of notes on everything! Read the content, take the quizzes and test, take notes on those answers and explanations!
VERY IMPORTANT: Use the two free Achievable SIE dump Sheets and watch both the S7g.u.r.u and S7 Whisperer 60 min crash course SIE YouTube videos the day before or day of test! I’ve included links at the bottom of this post. Be sure to memorize the dump sheet tricks and formulas, and decide what’s most important to reference. The test center gives you two laminated sheets and dry erase markers you can use as soon as the test timer starts. Be ready to write down key formulas, acronyms, timeframes, etc. Mine were the Options 4 square box, SLoBS & BLiSS, yield teeter totter and Key Open vs Closed end market notes. (All on the achievable dump sheets except Open/Closed Markets).
My Story:
In late April I was hired by Vanguard for a position starting May 28. I’d been a contractor doing customer service in an unlicensed VG position for about 10 months (no finance background before that); with the goal of getting hired in a licensed, permanent role within a year. I worked hard and got hired! The position requires SIE, S7 and S63. After my start date they pay me to do nothing but study and take exams for 9 or 13 weeks (depending on whether I’d passed the SIE prior to start date), which is awesome, but there’s a $5000 bonus if the SIE is passed at least a week before start date.
Note: I did have a little familiarity with basic terms and what’s required for account opening, due to my contractor position).
I originally scheduled my exam for May 13. I had about a month from hire date to May 13, and VG paid for the Pass Perfect course. I started some light studying the first week, thinking I had 3 more weeks and was on track. Then I got really sick for 2 weeks! I’m talking bed ridden, definitely no studying. So May 10 I rescheduled my exam to May 18! I had to pay $40 but figured it was well worth it not to fail, lol.
I was finally well enough to start studying on May 11, giving me 7 days. 😅 I had retained very little from my initial studying so I started over. I thought “I can do this!” I figured I’d had to do similar in college while working full time. Boy it was rough!
7 Days to PASS the SIE:
The first 3 days I had all day to study: Sat, Sun and Mon (had the day off for my original test date).
THE PLAN 41+ hours 5 practice tests, scoring at least 75%
Days 1-3 (full days) - 8+ hrs per day - Complete Pass Perfect Course (16 chapters) start to finish (reading and all quizzes, chapter tests)
Days 4-5 (Tues, Wed) - 5 hrs each day (2 before work and 3 after) - Take 1-2 Pass Perfect Final exams (1 hr 45 min each) each day, taking time to focus/take notes on anything I missed - Goal of 4 total tests, with 75% or higher on 3
Day 6 (Friday, day before the test) - 5 hours (2 hrs before work, 3 hours after) - Take 1 FINRA practice SIE exam before work (free on FINRA website) - after work, Review all Difficult Topics - Listen to S7g.u.r.u & S7 whisperer on YouTube. (They each have a 60 minute crash course review, recommended for day before or day of test). - Print out Achievable Dump Sheets - add my own notes to dump sheets
Day 7 (Day of Test) Test scheduled for 2pm (1:30 registration) - 2 hours Notes and Dump Sheets Review in morning - Leave for Test at 11:30, arrive 12:30 (45 min drive) - One last Review of Dump Sheets for 45 min, take a break before registration
Great Plan Right?! Wellll, I didn’t quite stick to it. 🤣
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED: 52 Hours Study - Not at the planned pace! 4 Practice Finals (71% average) A lot of tears, anxiety and stress!😫 A rollercoaster of Self-doubt and Self-Confidence
Day 1 (Sat): 7 hrs Completed first 3 chapters, taking tons of notes on a Google doc, color coded and highlighted. I’ll do more tomorrow I thought, my brain is fried
Day 2 (Sun): 10 hours Completed chapters 4&5 again taking tons (too many) notes, taking quizzes and Tests multiple times, worried I wasn’t getting the concepts and terms well enough. Getting really worried about my pace now, but “hey I have tomorrow. I’ll crush it and catch up”. Maybe I won’t get to tests until Thurs, but I’ll be okay..
Day 3 (Mon): 7 hrs (I was exhausted and burnt out, still not 100% from being sick) Chapter 6 OPTIONS… the death of me, soooo much to learn. Barely got through chapter 6. Full panic has now set in! I have to work full time the next 4 days! If the rest of the course is this hard, I’m screwed. There goes my bonus, how will I tell my husband? (He would not have been mad but I would feel terrible). “Children and husband, do not bother me! I need to focus!” 😅
Day 4 (Tues): 6 hrs ( 6pm-12am) Intense panic and anxiety, how the hell am I going to finish?! Screw notes, get through the chapters! Completed chapters 7-10 Whew, these chapters weren’t as bad, maybe it’s getting easier. I think I remember a good amount. Better wrap this up tomorrow!
Day 5 (Wed): 5 hrs Very worried, but I’ll finish today and take lots of tests the next 2 days! Completed chapters 11-13 😫 OMG I’m still not done with the course and I have 2 days left! I must sleep.
Day 6 (Thurs): 6 hrs in the evening - Completed remaining chapters 14-16, course done 8pm. Whew, content done. He ended his round the least injured of anyone before him. An incredible feat considering the two before him were amongst the strongest skylanders. But not only that, round 3 had left the arena in the best state so far. Not many wounds lay upon the battlefield this time giving the cleaners a well deserved break after the catastrophic damage caused in the first 2 rounds. Ambush sat in the stands blown away by what he had just witnessed, other skylanders, mabu and greebles were loudly discussing the outcome. A large and intimidating figure loomed towards ambush. When it reached him a gruff yet booming voice greeted him. “AMBUSH MY GOOD FRIEND ITS NICE TO SEE YOU, WHAT DID I MISS?” Is what the man said. Knight light brandished his traptanium scimitar with a stoic expression on his face and night shift was shadow boxing the air inbetween the both of them. Both fighters took their professions before becoming skylanders very seriously. One was an all star in the ring, revered and highly admired amongst the viewership. The other was a knight like no other, an angelic swordsman that wore armour fashioned by the most esteemed blacksmiths and craftsmen skylands had ever known. Even with all of this being popular lore amongst skylands, no one could have forseen what would take place the millisecond the bell rang, no one except the two in the ring. Thats right, a ring, the very place night shift was the reigning champion in for most of his life, until he was forced out due to the officals having to ban his signature techniques. Thats right, they had to ban his fighting style to give anyone a chance. But in this ring… He was free. He could do anything he wanted to the man that stood before him. And night shift displayed his understanding of this once the bell rang… The vampiric boxer opened with a swift chomp to knight lights shoulder. And to everyones suprise… It broke through his armour… The same armour that had never been pierced, not even by the most divine weapons in skylands. Knight light was the only person who was unfazed. “Impressive…” Knight light praised. “You’re impressed by this, boy? Trust me this is nothing compared to what you have yet to see…” night shift stated condescendingly but truthfully. “Is that so? Then please, show me…” Knight light said confidently. Night shift smiled and responded with a technique he liked to call the over underhand. A powerful attack that ended 86% of his fights during his hayday. This involves throwing a simple over hand punch at range, then when the opponent least expects it, using his teleportation he would instantly move in close and throw a powerful under hand strike that embodies the true damage of the technique as opposed to the diversion the first hit is meant to be. So when he performed this on knight light you best believe it did some real damage. Knight light attempted a block on the over hand like so many did in the past. However he simply could not react to the under hand just like everyone else. The resulting damage from the attack left a boxing glove sized hole in knight lights armour revealing his stomach. “Remarkable, i never thoug-” knight light started before being interupted by a lightning fast barrage of punches that were thrown at him. Each punch dented his armour and spread cracks across its surface. Just after a few seconds of the barrage happening knight light had decided that he had had enough… He lifted his hand and bent his fingers like he was holding a sphere before launching a bright flash of light at night shift. “Fighting dirty are we? I can do that too…” knight light said as his opponent was violently blinded. Night shift still had his guard up however, so when knight light swung his scimitar with enough strength to cleave a mountain in two it was not a lethal blow. His knuckle had a chip in it and a tear in one of his coveted gloves was made but overall no problematic damage was taken. An impressive display of a boxing champions instinct that shocked the crowd. “WOW! THIS SHIFTY GUY HAS SOME REAL SKILLS” tri tip yelled to ambush over the cheering audience. “Indeed, however knight light isnt even attempting to win yet…” ambush responded. “WHAT!? THIS IS LITERALLY A FIGHT TO THE DEATH WHAT COULD HE BE WAITING FOR??” tri tip replied in a perplexed manner. “He knows that night shift is not just all stats”. “WHAT?”. “Sigh night shift has a trump card and knight light is trying to bait it out” ambush explained. “AHHH SO HE’S USING HIS BRAIN TO FIGHT! I NEVER REALLY GOT USED TO THAT” tri tip said honestly. “That is unfortunately excruciatingly evident…”. “YEAH WELL YOUR BIG FANCY WORDS HAVE NOTHING ON MY CLUB!” Tri tip yelled defensively. “Yes im sure thats the case, now lets just focus on the match” ambush redirected. “FINE! BUT ONLY BECAUSE THAT ONES THROWING A HAYMAKER!!”. and sure enough if you were watching the fight in that very moment you would see a still blinded night shift throw a devestatingly powerful punch that made a perfect connection with the skull of his opponent. A large shockwave was created by the impact and the tiles of the arena crumbled but more importantly knight lights helmet shattered into a thousand pieces. The man who's face had not been seen ever since his duty of protecting the starlight began… Had eyes cast upon that very face for the first time since then. Underneath he was not a gruff viking or an ascended immortal, instead he was just a person, like everyone else. All of the legends that were told about him had clouded everyones view of such a figure. The revealing of his face made knight light feel more human, it grounded him for the first time in a while, like a burden had been lifted from his shoulders. So the act came off, the veil was lifted and he spoke… “you shitty old man…”. At the very sight of hearing such words from this man the crowd silenced themselves. “Do you really think anything you have done so far is impressive?” He continued “Do you really think someone like me could ever be compared to you?” “Well… i thought those things too, until that punch just now” knight light smiled a comforting smile “All of my battles and feats placed me on a pedestal that i wasnt worthy of in my eyes” “But you have just brought me down into a sport” “A place i can be myself and not the stoic hero everyone thinks i am” “So for that i thank you” “Ya done squirt?” Night shift grumbled obviously just regaining his eyesight. “I am” knight light responded. “Good, because all of this character development is real nice n’ all but i want to know why, even after everything i’ve thrown at you…” “You’re still in the same spot you started the match in” The crowd remained silent but in response to night shifts statement the silence grew louder. No one had realised it but even after taking hits that easily broke his armour not once had knight lights feet ever left the ground, not once had he ever been knocked backwards, not once had he cried out in pain and whats more? Not once had he bled. “Well you see… my armour is moreso for theatrics, batman has his outfit, superman has his and so does wonder woman” knight light answered. “Are you sassing me compadre?” Night shift snarled. “Not at all! It is strong armour no doubt but my armour is never what made me strong, no no you see my bones and muscles were enhanced by the starlight itself, after a millenia within its proximity, intern granting me enormous power”. “You talk like your blood is gold and honestly that makes my blood boil but what you're telling me scares me…”. “Why’s that?”. “Because if what you said was true that means… that swing you took at me whilst i was blind, was your absolute weakest possible attack”. “Atleast it wasn’t obvious” knight light chuckled. The crowd began getting loud at the changing tides, this fight just went from fairly even to a massive mismatch. However an interesting development in knight lights demeanour was noticeable as it was no longer pompous and gallant but he was a lot more lax despite still displaying faint hints of those aforementioned traits. “Since a funeral is gonna have to happen soon its best we get back to the fight” night shift yawned. “We probably should but don’t dig your own grave like that, its unbecoming of a champion”. “Oh i wasn’t talking about me pal… ive got no one to attend my funeral”. “Ah a lonely road you’ve paved i take it?”. Night shifts eye twitched with irritation “let’s just box, im sick of hearing shakespear”. “As you wish” knight light obliged and opened with a brutal yet glamorous attack. This attack wasn’t even initiated by so little as a gesture. It simply started with light pouring out of knight lights body. This light was very water like and flowed gracefully before sharpening and becoming rigid. Once solid it wrapped around night shift before he had any hope of reacting to such an attack. It then pulled him towards knight light who began to charge up a special type of swing. One that follows through beyond all the way. This technique was one that had slain many elderitch horrors in the past and its name was “the celestial vortex”. Once night shift was stunned, helpless and in range knight light let loose… He swung his scimitar, but not just regularly, like i said, beyond all the way. The second half of the celestial vortex consists of a 1080 degree spin with the traptanium scimitar. This means the attack encompasses the full area around knight light and strikes three seperate times with powerful blows. And so that is exactly what happened to night shift… The first hit ripped through his ghastly body, the second shattered his mortal bones and the third killed him. Or so everyone thought because although his body laid lifeless on the ground moments after the incredible attack, a coffin manifested around it out of nowhere. This coffin had an ominous aura that swirled in demonic fury around it. But not long after appearing it burst open and a good as new night shift was there ready to settle the score. “Suprise, im immortal” he said with an astonishing amount of hubris for a man who just got diced in three seperate ways. “So thats it is it?” Knight light in the arena and ambush in the audience understood the event at the same time and prefaced this with the exact same words. “THATS GOTTA BREAK SOME KIND OF RULE RIGHT!?” tri tip roared in signature sportsfan fashion. “Well surely an opponent that can’t die has a supreme advantage in a battle to the death yes, however there may be ways around it we are currently unaware of” ambush tried to approach the situation with logic and reason. “NA THIS GUY IS GONNA WIN THE ENTIRE THING, THIS JUST GOT BORING IM OUT” tri tip angrily hopped out of his seat and turned to leave the stadium. Instead he bumped into an individual almost as large as himself. It was king pen, still bandaged up a tad but overall he seemed in good health. “Now now tri tip, did the club not teach you patience?” King pen persuaded. “WHA- KING PEN YOU’RE BACK UP AND RUNNING ALREADY!?” Tri tip was startled by the sudden appearance of his leader, mentor and friend. “Why yes i am, and im glad to say i did not miss too much of this spectacular match”. “BUT YOU SAID YOU’D BE READY BY THE END OF ROUND 4”. “Oh silly tri tip, always being so dense, thats what i love about you, theres no bigger picture in your mind. Can’t you see the round is already coming to a close?” His words sounded harsh but they were comforting and professional in a strange way. “I- IT IS?”. “Just watch, my friend” king pen put a hand on the shoulder tri tip did not have his club over and guided him back into his seat then sat peacefully beside him. Night shift was still, his guard was raised and his eyes were focused. Knight light was obviously brain storming, desperately trying to find a way he could overcome immortality. But it wasn’t possible… There isn’t a way to kill an opponent that can’t die… All he could do was smile softly. “There may be nothing i can do to you vampire… however! I will put up my very best against you!” He said confidently. “Id expect nothing less” night shift replied in agreement with his philosophy. And so knight light engaged with a heavy swing downwards onto night shift who swiftly teleported out of the way. Knight light spun around with another ferocious swing that again was dodged easily. The powerful shockwaves from these attacks tore apart the arena violently. Many more swings were performed and each successive one had more power than the last. After 12 or so more attacks night shift performed his final dodge. Not to say he got hit no, he simply began charging up a powerful punch in response to knight lights onslought. This was no ordinary punch however. The way he tensed his phantom muscles was very unique. He held the power that he would normally release into one of his jabs. This subsequently multiplied the force that the punch would exert. But the main problem was that he had to hold the punch for a while. A feat that wasn’t easy with an actively attacking opponent. So when knight light began another swing, night shift tapped into a power that would majorly help him. This power allowed him to constantly teleport to every location simultaneously within a small area around knight light. This made him virtually unhittable. He called it “the ghost gods ring”. Knight light was completely perplexed by the sight of such an ability. His attacks halted and his brain was scattered in thought. But again everything has a downside and this technique drained night shifts stamina incredibly fast. At the very least he had to throw this powerful punch with enough energy to not make it a dud. However he only had this one chance to do it… It was an all or nothing approach but it was the only way he could ever hope to win. So he channelled both techniques for an entire minute. A minute is what he assumed to be the perfect amount of time but really he had no clue. A constant minute of being omnipresent in a specific section of the arena… A constant minute of having his very internal forces gestate and multiply within his muscles… This was an incredibly risky play to make, if he didnt end this with this attack he was absolutely done for. His body would be destroyed internally and he would be forced to die over and over again until he had regained enough energy to try it again. But now was the time to launch it… He methodically stopped his rapid teleportation behind knight light. Then he released all of the pent up force he had been holding in, into a full fledged super punch. The punch radiated power, it generated shockwaves just by existing. Reality warped and light bended around it. The size of the fist grew to a humongous size as if by the will of the universe. This attack was called “The pinnacle of punches” and it ended 1% of night shifts matches back in the day. It came into contact with knight light before he even realised what was happening. Steam was being let off in every direction and the surrounding section of the arena was levelled completely with nothing built by mabu remaining. Knight lights last few pieces of armour turned to dust. All that survived was his boots and his pants. Night shift struggled to keep the punch thrown. His vision swayed and his energy dwindled but he kept holding out for the win. Well he did until… His fist exploded. The sheer pressure of the clash was too much for his hand to take. Everyone including both fighters were absolutely gobsmacked with this development in the fight. But what they were to see next would set the precedent… that this fight was unwinnable… Knight light appeared to have taken zero damage from that attack. And whats worse was the fact that his feet were still in the exact same spot they had been in the entire fight. The first person to realise the match was a lost cause was none other than night shift himself. “So thats it huh…” he said in a hushed tone “You are one hell of a guy” “You took the best i had…” “And you’re not just still standing…” “You didn’t even budge, you didn’t even bruise” “The only one who got hurt by that hit was me” “And honestly i’d be pissed if it didn’t…” “That was the strongest punch i have ever thrown and im proud of it” “But more importantly im concerned about this match now…” “Neither of us can kill the other, i can’t put a dent on ya and you can’t put me down for good” “So what’re we gon’ do?” He finished “While i appreciate your praise and your power i actually did think of a way to kill you” knight light confessed. If everyone wasn’t already silent from shock they were now. “You did?” Night shift asked intrigued. “Yeah but before i show you i just wanted to say a few things” “I’ve never had such an intense fight” “Its been a real rollercoaster and to be quite honest at the beginning i thought you were just a grumpy old fart” “But you exceeded every expectation i had of you” “And just for you im gonna try to talk normally from now on” he finished the sentence with one last comforting smile “Hehe… i’d say your doing a great job, i understood every word you said just fine” night shift chuckled. The whole crowd was dying to know what knight light had in store for them. No one could believe a way to kill the unkillable existed. But little did they know… Knight light was about to invent one… “Alright!” He yelled to gather everyones attention “Observe! For you won’t see a more impressive attack as long as you venture within this realm!” He said raising his arms, one holding his scimitar “So much for talking normally…” night shift mumbled. All of the spectators viewed intently only to see… Knight light doing the unthinkable before doing the even more unthinkable. He stepped forward… For the first time in this match he had moved out of his starting position. A thing that would be commonplace in any other fight had become suprising to see in this one. But he didn’t step forward for no reason no, he took a stance with his scimitar over his head in the air. He was slightly crouched and he held his free hand outwards like he was stopping someone. His wings outstretched themselves as if ready to take flight. Now that all of the preparation was done he inhaled slowly then exhaled even slower… Suddenly a pool of light formed around his feet and expanded to encompass a large area around him. Then his body began to glow with a radiant light, like that of the sun. The very same light encircled his sword and began to wrap around it like a web that flexed and vibrated in a helix pattern. “Your fighting style reminded me of something…” he began “The way you made yourself seem numerous and the fact that every punch you threw was stunningly beautiful” “It just brought stars to my mind” “And what was around before the stars?” “Nothing” “So thats exactly what this attack will do” “Not nothing, but it will completely erase anything in its path, wiping anything from the face of reality” The crowd loudly discussed this revelation. Ofcourse it was so simple yet no one else had ever thought of it. The crowd seemed to understand the weight of these statements. But one question was asked numerous times within their discussions. Could an attack really remove something from the world for good? Well… Knight light would be about to answer that question… For when he swings his blade… The truth will be evident. “In a way this attack will be named after you…” knight light was still talking as the attack was charging “You inspired it…” the light danced around him in the air and shimmered on his body “And Im going to name it after the inspiration” his scimitar was glowing with a very volatile and unstable light that shifted tones so much no one could determine its colour “It must be an honour having to be killed this way…” his muscles tensed in response to the light moving on his body as if they were soaking it in like a plant “Likewise its an honour having to kill you this way…” the very air in the stadium began to sparkle like glitter “That’s why im calling this ability, the highest possible grade of attack that can ever be reached, “the brightest constellation” as soon as he finished those words knight light jumped into the air “I couldn’t have had a better opponent in this here match today… thank you” night shift heroically stood proud ready to embrace death as he said his final words. The jump knight light performed broke the sound barrier and created a sonic boom that sent people in the stadium flying off of their seats. The liquid light that covered the floor of the arena attempted to follow him up into the sky, this created a bunch of pillars that were formed out of this light. Once knight light reached the apex of his jump he began hovering in place with his wings. “I thank you too…” he muttered knowing that only he could hear anything he had to say. Then he readied his scimitar and began a skydive back down to the arena. Light encompassed his body like a cacoon. It swirled enchantingly around him. On the otherhand the light on his blade began to erupt with an unsettling degree of colour. Before he knew it he was nearing the ground. In preparation he held his sword in the swinging position. Then when he was within the boundaries of the stadium again he swung his blade horizontally towards night shift with the momentum of his skydive included. All of the light within his blade, surrounding him and on the floor of the arena shot at night shift. He landed shortly after. Before reaching night shift the light transformed into stars that were linked together by lines, they resembled constellations incredibly well. But they didn’t last long because shortly after coming into creation they detonated and discharged a beyond blinding amount of light. Everyone in the audience could not see as a result of this. The attack was the mother of all flashbangs and everyone going wild in the stands proved it. The fact that they could not see meant they could not know what happened to night shift. And that was the main focus right in this moment. Everyone NEEDED to know what had happened. But no one would get an answer until the first few viewers regained their eyesight. After 19 excruciatingly long and chaotic minutes the very first people able to see again witnessed the state the arena was in. The entire third of the arena night shift was stood in… Had been decimated… It looked as though it had been carved right down to nothing, it boasted a weirdly smooth and eerie shape. Almost like within a radius of that attack, things had indeed been set to zero. But no one knew how. No one except knight light. About 13 years ago, 2010, 2011 aa time lo, there were movies like Inception, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 1), Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol etc. Movies that had been shot for IMAX. Back then, we in Hyderabad had the facility in Prasads to watch these films in their intended format. The IMAX big-screen cinematic experience had become a staple for films in Hyderabad. Daani taravaata, ye cinema aina, whether it was IMAX or not, we opted to watch it on that massive screen.
Then, something changed.
On top of this: there came the shift in location. The entire city somehow gravitated away from the Necklace Road and Tank Bund area. The main booming area of the city (for films especially) are areas like Gachibowli, with theatres like AMB Cinemas in Sharath City Capital Mall, Platinum Cinemas in SLN Terminus, PVR in Atrium, PVR in Preston Prime, and PVR Icon in Next Galleria Mall. When there are five theatres, in the proximity of within 5 kilometres from each of them, not a single one has an IMAX in them. AMB even has screens that are in the 4:3 ration, where IMAX films can be shown, in the intended size. Their screens, 2, 3, 5 and 6 are all 4:3 ratio screens which can show films that are filmed in that ratio. For example, I went to Barbie in Atrium mall, where it was playing within a box, within the 16:9 screen and then I went to Oppenheimer in AMB (to at least watch it in their screen 1, to compensate for IMAX), when I peaked into the next screen (screen 2), where Barbie was playing, The size of the screen was compatible with the aspect ratio that it was shot in - 4:3.
All over India right now (at least in major cities, excluding Hyderabad), PVR has created IMAX screens, but they are all digital IMAX screens that are 68.1 ft wide. Prasads has a 70mm IMAX screen (95 feet wide and 71 feet tall). This is the normal height of a five floor, commercial building. Just imagine that. It is a window into a whole another world. When we have a screen, we do not have the projector, and when others have the projectors, they simply just do not have the screens.
Here is the simple question to conclude it...

When I try to run Geometry Dash (version 2.204) from Steam it just doesn't work. It tells me that the game is running but nothing happens, then it just closes.
I'm currently using Debian 12 64-bit with Gnome 43.9 on Wayland.

Basically, looking for an alternative to ffmpegthumbnailer to show embedded video thumbnails that is not file manager-dependent. ffmpegthumbnailer's -m option does not support webp covers (there's a long-standing open issue but no progress has been made), so videos downloaded with yt-dlp --embed-thumbnails` still result in generated thumbnails and lose the context of Youtube thumbnails.
I seem in the wiki there's Totem but that's Gnome file manager-dependent and I prefer to use a lightweight file manager like pcmanfm or thunar.

Earlier today I started customizing a character on switch. I spent about 30 mins on it and was almost done when I decided to change the eyes. Suddenly, trying to edit my character wasn’t possible- the little pickaxe on the right hand side of the screen indicating an edit was in process wasn’t appearing any longer.
Since then I’ve signed out and back into my Microsoft account several times. There were very occasional moments where the character I made did appear in selection, and I’d be able to make edits again, but every time I tried to select the eyes I wanted, edits stopped working again. Most of the time however (upon closing & rebooting game, restarting switch, or signing out & back in), an infinite loading wheel would stay where my character should be. No access to edit or use it.
Thinking it was because of my switch or weak hotspot, I then downloaded Minecraft onto my phone. It seemed to work at first, until the EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED- immediately upon clicking the same eyes. I’ve now tried several times to reload the character on mobile as well, but it’s not working.
WHY is this happening on multiple different platforms, and how do I fix it?? Please help :(

That will be test. When sacrifice is done, the fire is there, and old animal is put into the sacrifice, and he comes out with a new body. That means the Vedic mantras are being pronounced very properly, and it is being carried out. This is the experiment, not for killing. Although in the Vedas there are recommendation that paśu-vadha system... Just like in the modern age also, when some experiment is made, it is made on the life of the animal. But they are killed. But when there is recommendation of putting an animal in the fire, that is not for killing; that is to see that this animal has got a new body.

Pradyumna: Aśvamedha-yajñas or gomedha-yajñas, or the sacrifices in which a horse or a bull is sacrificed, were not, of course, for the purpose of killing the animals. Lord Caitanya said that such animalssacrificed on the altar of yajña were rejuvenated and a new life was given to them. It was just to prove the efficacy of the hymns of the Vedas. By recitation of the hymns of the Vedas in the proper way, certainly the performer gets relief from the reactions of sins. But in case of such sacrifices not properly done under expert management, certainly one has to become responsible for animal sacrifice."
Prabhupāda: This is a long subject matter. But the sacrifice in yajña, recommended, that is not for killing the animal, but it is a testing, how the Vedic mantras are being properly chanted. Because an oldanimal put into the fire, by Vedic mantras he would come out again with young life. That is sacrifice of animals in the yajña. Therefore in this age there is no such expert brāhmaṇa who can chant the mantras properly or he can behave because the life is very abominable. Therefore, because there is no expert brāhmaṇa, so these sacrifices are forbidden in this age. Kalau pañca vivarjayet aśvamedhaṁ gavālambhaṁ devareṇa sutotpattiṁ sannyāsam (CC Adi 17.164). These things are forbidden in this age, because there is no proper men to conduct.

The purpose of the Vedas is to establish such principles under the order of the Supreme Lord, and the Lord directly orders, at the end of the Gītā, that the highest principle of religion is to surrender unto Him only, and nothing more. The Vedic principles push one towards complete surrender unto Him; and whenever such principles are disturbed by the demoniac, the Lord appears. From the Bhāgavatam we understand that Lord Buddha is the incarnation of Kṛṣṇa who appeared when materialism was rampant and materialists were using the pretext of the authority of the Vedas. Although there are certain restrictive rules and regulations regarding animal sacrifice for particular purposes in the Vedas, people of demonic tendency still took to animal sacrifice without reference to the Vedic principles. Lord Buddha appeared to stop this nonsense and to establish the Vedic principles of nonviolence.

Lord Buddha, a powerful incarnation of the Personality of Godhead, appeared in the province of Gayā (Bihar) as the son of Añjanā, and he preached his own conception of nonviolence and deprecated even the animal sacrifices sanctioned in the Vedas. At the time when Lord Buddha appeared, the people in general were atheistic and preferred animal flesh to anything else. On the plea of Vedic sacrifice, every place was practically turned into a slaughterhouse, and animal-killing was indulged in unrestrictedly. Lord Buddha preached nonviolence, taking pity on the poor animals. He preached that he did not believe in the tenets of the Vedas and stressed the adverse psychological effects incurred by animal-killing. Less intelligent men of the age of Kali, who had no faith in God, followed his principle, and for the time being they were trained in moral discipline and nonviolence, the preliminary steps for proceeding further on the path of God realization. He deluded the atheists because such atheists who followed his principles did not believe in God, but they kept their absolute faith in Lord Buddha, who himself was the incarnation of God. Thus the faithless people were made to believe in God in the form of Lord Buddha. That was the mercy of Lord Buddha: he made the faithless faithful to him.

The horse sacrifice yajña or cow sacrifice yajña performed by the Vedic regulations shouldn't be misunderstood as a process of killing animals. On the contrary, animals offered for the yajña were rejuvenated to a new span of life by the transcendental power of chanting the Vedic hymns, which, if properly chanted, are different from what is understood by the common layman. The Veda-mantras are all practical, and the proof is rejuvenation of the sacrificed animal.

According to sacrificial rituals, animals are sometimes sacrificed in the yajña arena. Such animals are sacrificed not to kill them but to give them new life. Such action was an experiment to observe whether the Vedic mantras were being properly pronounced. Sometimes small animals are killed in a medical laboratory to investigate therapeutic effects. In a medical clinic, the animals are not revived, but in the yajña arena, when animals were sacrificed, they were again given life by the potency of Vedic mantras. The word śipi-viṣṭāya appears in this verse. Śipi means "the flames of the sacrifice." In the sacrificial fire if the oblations are offered into the flames, then Lord Viṣṇu is situated there in the form of the flames. Therefore Lord Viṣṇu is known as Śipiviṣṭa.

That will be test. When sacrifice is done, the fire is there, and old animal is put into the sacrifice, and he comes out with a new body. That means the Vedic mantras are being pronounced very properly, and it is being carried out. This is the experiment, not for killing. Although in the Vedas there are recommendation that paśu-vadha system... Just like in the modern age also, when some experiment is made, it is made on the life of the animal. But they are killed. But when there is recommendation of putting an animal in the fire, that is not for killing; that is to see that this animal has got a new body.

Pradyumna: Aśvamedha-yajñas or gomedha-yajñas, or the sacrifices in which a horse or a bull is sacrificed, were not, of course, for the purpose of killing the animals. Lord Caitanya said that such animalssacrificed on the altar of yajña were rejuvenated and a new life was given to them. It was just to prove the efficacy of the hymns of the Vedas. By recitation of the hymns of the Vedas in the proper way, certainly the performer gets relief from the reactions of sins. But in case of such sacrifices not properly done under expert management, certainly one has to become responsible for animal sacrifice."
Prabhupāda: This is a long subject matter. But the sacrifice in yajña, recommended, that is not for killing the animal, but it is a testing, how the Vedic mantras are being properly chanted. Because an oldanimal put into the fire, by Vedic mantras he would come out again with young life. That is sacrifice of animals in the yajña. Therefore in this age there is no such expert brāhmaṇa who can chant the mantras properly or he can behave because the life is very abominable. Therefore, because there is no expert brāhmaṇa, so these sacrifices are forbidden in this age. Kalau pañca vivarjayet aśvamedhaṁ gavālambhaṁ devareṇa sutotpattiṁ sannyāsam (CC Adi 17.164). These things are forbidden in this age, because there is no proper men to conduct.

The purpose of the Vedas is to establish such principles under the order of the Supreme Lord, and the Lord directly orders, at the end of the Gītā, that the highest principle of religion is to surrender unto Him only, and nothing more. The Vedic principles push one towards complete surrender unto Him; and whenever such principles are disturbed by the demoniac, the Lord appears. From the Bhāgavatam we understand that Lord Buddha is the incarnation of Kṛṣṇa who appeared when materialism was rampant and materialists were using the pretext of the authority of the Vedas. Although there are certain restrictive rules and regulations regarding animal sacrifice for particular purposes in the Vedas, people of demonic tendency still took to animal sacrifice without reference to the Vedic principles. Lord Buddha appeared to stop this nonsense and to establish the Vedic principles of nonviolence.

Lord Buddha, a powerful incarnation of the Personality of Godhead, appeared in the province of Gayā (Bihar) as the son of Añjanā, and he preached his own conception of nonviolence and deprecated even the animal sacrifices sanctioned in the Vedas. At the time when Lord Buddha appeared, the people in general were atheistic and preferred animal flesh to anything else. On the plea of Vedic sacrifice, every place was practically turned into a slaughterhouse, and animal-killing was indulged in unrestrictedly. Lord Buddha preached nonviolence, taking pity on the poor animals. He preached that he did not believe in the tenets of the Vedas and stressed the adverse psychological effects incurred by animal-killing. Less intelligent men of the age of Kali, who had no faith in God, followed his principle, and for the time being they were trained in moral discipline and nonviolence, the preliminary steps for proceeding further on the path of God realization. He deluded the atheists because such atheists who followed his principles did not believe in God, but they kept their absolute faith in Lord Buddha, who himself was the incarnation of God. Thus the faithless people were made to believe in God in the form of Lord Buddha. That was the mercy of Lord Buddha: he made the faithless faithful to him.

The horse sacrifice yajña or cow sacrifice yajña performed by the Vedic regulations shouldn't be misunderstood as a process of killing animals. On the contrary, animals offered for the yajña were rejuvenated to a new span of life by the transcendental power of chanting the Vedic hymns, which, if properly chanted, are different from what is understood by the common layman. The Veda-mantras are all practical, and the proof is rejuvenation of the sacrificed animal.

According to sacrificial rituals, animals are sometimes sacrificed in the yajña arena. Such animals are sacrificed not to kill them but to give them new life. Such action was an experiment to observe whether the Vedic mantras were being properly pronounced. Sometimes small animals are killed in a medical laboratory to investigate therapeutic effects. In a medical clinic, the animals are not revived, but in the yajña arena, when animals were sacrificed, they were again given life by the potency of Vedic mantras. The word śipi-viṣṭāya appears in this verse. Śipi means "the flames of the sacrifice." In the sacrificial fire if the oblations are offered into the flames, then Lord Viṣṇu is situated there in the form of the flames. Therefore Lord Viṣṇu is known as Śipiviṣṭa.

 | Introduction as of recently for the past 4 days i have noticed a large divide across most of the discussions regarding the monsterverse cannon mostly duo to a large discrepancy between what is a what isn't common information, and how much of the community does not seen to have the time or resources to actually fact check extremely specific information the result of this is a continuous spread of misinformation, constant claims and lies about lore and movie scenes that are intentionally taken out of context or shape, or just straight up didn't happen or weren't neither stated or confirmed. submitted by HellfireBrB to Monsterverse [link] [comments] the point of this post is to both criticize this stupid way to discuss information while at the same time debunking some of the current biggest misinformation being passed across the subreddit and other grounds of conversation about the MV Disclaimer: i do not as of now own neither a copy of GvK or GxK's novelizations that are in English (as mine are on my native language; Portuguese) as such many of the information provided following will be a combination of prints and translations taken from various sources, i apologize for that in advance as i have no workaround such a problem other than pirating a product i already own, such a thing i refuse to do. Starting from the big: the Egypt fight, and why all the things you were told happened in there... didn't actually happenone of the first points of discussion that sens to generate this kind of issue is the entirety of the Egypt fight, more specifically the status of can or cannot Kong beat or kill Godzilla on his own (he can't we have a whole ass movie about this, move on), this resulted in a considerable amount of misinformation in regard to the novel mostly quoting things that did not happen, or that are taken out of context to the extreme as a start:Kong did(not) knock Godzilla unconscious the entire discussion from the start revolves just around ghost arguments about things that truly no one cares and in general, that in general despite knowing this will offends certain groups of people; was only started because certain loud minorities of Kong fans still can't accept Kong loses and as such need to use any escuse to justify a Kong victory and create their own version of "Godzilla was plying around" as such for the actual fight lets start from the movie as in the following image on the right you can see the exact last frame in which Godzilla's face is last fully visible visible, and in the left this is the last frame in which Godzilla and Kong are in any way visible (duo to the motion blur I've market a crude shape of Godzilla's head and Kong's hand for batter clarity however i do recommend you go and watch the scene at a slower speed to get batter clarity on your own about it) pay close attention to Godzilla's head position in relationship to the last frame, and how Godzilla moves to to his side as Kong's fist slides towards his left of his cheek his eyes are also open in the last frame in which they are visible the biggest argument towards Godzilla being unconscious is that after Godzilla was hit the movie simply "cut" to after Godzilla woke up, however this is very easily debunked, starting by the images above you can notice Godzilla's position in relationship to Kong, him being on his back with his dorsal plates accommodated to his left and his head spinning to his right after being hit this is the progression of Godzilla's recovery process pay attention to Godzilla's eye position as per the second sequence of images, Godzilla feel to his side belly down, with his body slightly pending towards his right showing that Kong didn't move his body before dragging him, but he simply feel already on such position. and as per the very first frame in which his face is visible (first image) his eyes are open and facing the same direction they were before Kong last hit him, them less than 4 frames latter his eye position shifts towards the sand were you can clearly see his claw moving toward, and in the third image about 2 frames latter he can be seen moving his head and eyes towards his hand before his claws hit the ground covering his face with sand again. and in the 4 slide the very first frame in which his eyes are visible again, they have completely bend back to the point you can see their white as Godzilla starts turning his head towards Kong as per the movie, there is no cut or clear view of Godzilla being either knocked out or unconscious Kong simply punched Godzilla back into his belly and there is full continuity of one scene to the other it is preposterous to claim Godzilla simply shrug off such a hit when he clearly is moaning in pain, and took several seconds for him to fully recover from the strike and go back to charging his breath (exactly 11 seconds the exact frame Kong's fist connects to his face, and the exact frame we can hear his charge) and no, the novel does not contradict or change anything of this scene per the novel Kong simply does not understand why Godzilla is even on the floor it is neither stated to be unconscious or dazed, simply \"still... not dead\" it also like the movie fails the state any amount of time or distance in-between scenes simply stating the exact same progression Kong hits Godzilla, > starts dragging> Shooting the movie even has a continuity error with Godzilla somehow being closer to the city despite it being on the opposite direction of the portal, AND falling backwards to the city meaning both Kong and Godzilla teleport backwards trough that sequence The fight was (NOT) a draw, and Kong was (NOT) holding back, and the beast glove can('t) block Godzilla's breath this is the sequence of words you often see in these discussions stating that this fight is not valid because Kong was holding back (often being followed by Kong could have killed Godzilla if he wanted, or kong could've bashed godzilla's head if he wanted) and that even if mothra didn't interview it would end there, and that the director commentary backs this up however once more this is untrue as i can't provide video prof of the commentary duo to the formatting of the post what adam actually stated is that kong held back from fighting godzilla as he had grown past their rivalry and that is not his intentions, however kong did lose his temper and went out of his way not only mad at godzilla, but also trying to take revenge for Hong kong, something the novels even backs up: the novel not only states the same, but also goes out of its way to say kong was gratified with striking godzilla so now that is clarified what was going on on kong's mind, yes godzilla won, and kong was not only saved once, he was saved TWICE, because as per the same commentary, godzilla stepping on kong only didn't kill him as it did in GvK because kong fell on flat sand which he sunk in you can actually see that when godzilla first steps on kong trough the fight than comes the argumentation that kong was going to block the breath and move out however this is also untrue the novel goes in great detail that that kong could never escape before godzilla hit him, and while kong indeed block with his arm, he did not even know if it was going to work or not something you can once again actually see in the movie Conclusion: THE EGYPT FIGHT IS THE EXACT SAME IN ALL SOURCES Shimo, a class in tell not show, and why she is the potential man of the monsterverseimage made by u/drywall9the second issue with these discussions is shimo and the amount of things she is "told" but never show to be able to do, while at the same time being backed up with an ungodly amount of arguments placing her as the strongest titan in the monsterverse.... while that is completely and utterly untrue Shimo didn't beat godzilla in the past... no that is not what the novel said, and why Bernie, and Illene are the most unreliable sources in the monsterverse this is a heated topic, mostly being about people not having an actual firm stating point to place shimo and how strong she actually is in relationship to other titans (mostly godzilla and ghidorah) a great deal of people firmly believing she is the most powerful titan in the monsterverse, something that has sparked a good amount of discussion after adam stated that firmly she and godzilla are equals something that is contradicted by the novels stating that shimo was "dominating" in ancient times, and that she beat and froze ghidorah.... except the novels don't say that, nor does it confirm anything, in fact both these claims are just Illene tossing stuff at a wall to see what sticks and Bernie does what Bernie does, spit his own conspiracies into the thing until he gets something right out of pure luck this is what illene and bernie actually say she simply remarks monarch had cave paintings of shimo from before the events of the movie, and that some of those paintings depicted shimo being stronger than godzilla something even bernie thinks is hard to imagine illene than proceeds to talk about jia and the iwi before the discussion rolls back to Shimo where she says: she than proceeds to detail other interactions before pondering how much of it is true, and how much of it are the person making the paintings projecting his own emotions into the fight BUT SHE TOOK GODZILLA'S ATTOMICH BREATH LIKE IT WAS NOTHING? isn't actually new several times godzilla's breath and similar power attacks (such as ghidorah beams) has show to be survivable in one way or another, be it because of raw durability, or other countermeasures, what is surprising here is not that shimo can take it, but that illene is surprised she can. even mechagodzilla one of the least durable monster in the MV is confirmed to be able to survive it (albeit not for long) Shimo (didn't) freeze Ghidorah (at least not directly) this is actually the main reason for the existence of this post, my tiredness with the endless debates that shimo 100% beat and froze ghidorah, with endless claims that the novel completely confirms it and what she says is that the same crystal formations found within shimo ice ages created by shimo were found ACROSS Antarctica in a localized event, which is also where ghidorah was found than after being asked by bernie she simply shrugs it off as if she does not know the answer she never states that shimo is involved in any way with ghidorah, just that at some point shimo was at Antarctica possible freezing it in an event separate from the ice age she created during the titan war this is backed up by our previous sources on how ghidorah was frozen back in GvK's novel it is stated that it is unknown what happened to ghidorah just that they know ice quickly melted around him and them even quicker froze itself back imprisoning him this might cause you to believe this is prof. that ghidorah was beaten and or frozen by shimo however there is ONE CORE information that is missing in both these situations, that simply contradict this point in both occasions, THE HUMANS ARE COMPLETELLY UNAWARE OF GODZILLA'S INVOLMENT WITH GHIDORAH, not their fights, NOT their rivalry but godzilla's involvement with the freezing of ghidorah, as that is information provided only to us the viewer of the monsterverse, and thus why in BOTH OCASIONS the humans do not mention him (they have no ideia), and proceed to acknowledge shimo in place of him trough the events this is further proven by the original takes on how ghidorah was frozen ghidorah himself broke off and melted the ice as he feel from the sky sub-sequentially getting stuck in it there is also a tweet of him confirming godzilla battled godzilla 1v1 but since it is a 2019 post i have failed to have the mental power to go trough 5+ years of replies just to get one print you got the point case and point the "Novel does not state shimo froze or was involved" with ghidorah, nor did it retcon anything from previous information we have, godzilla simply had a 1v1 fight with ghidorah in Antarctica while a localized shimo storm (like in rio) was happening, godzilla than beat ghidorah which ended in ghidorah being stuck in ice and melted water that quickly froze him before godzilla left the dragon for dead the reasons for the storm are unknown, the time shimo created it unknown in relationship to the godzilla vs ghidorah fight is unknown, and the extend of how intentional it was from any of the parts involvement is hi, i am 42 and i feel all i have in my life is my job and my parents of whom i live with.
i have no children or family or my own, and this failing has been eating away at me. tried to do something about it but nothing availed (career? string of dead end jobs. women? never reply or can ever get close to on a personal level). after my grandmum died a few weeks ago i really do begin to feel the clock ticking and this anxiety and worry, i dont know if thats a midlife crisis.
all i know, this is not just an episode of being 'down in the dumps'. its been something i feel its been growing inside me for years - not in my head, but feeling it from my gut. i'm starting to feel it interrupting my job. my get up and go has got up has gone. i just dont feel like working even though the rational part of me forces myself to just do it. i dont know if i have depression but lately i am in this state where i just dont feel like doing anything and i am just unhappy.
i used to be a gamer in my 30s as a hobby, but i havent even touched my ps5 for over 6 months. i've sold all my games. i just lost the will to play.
i have been seeing a counsellor for 11 years in trying to 'get help' (as everyone keeps saying) but i feel its done hardly anything for me. she has aspired me to do travelling to get out my comfort zone and meet people, which i have done. but thats it. even travelling is becoming meaningless now because i am constantly in this state of preoccupation. i know after a big holiday i'll never see those people again even if they add me on facebook or not (and when they don't, it hurts).
people say talk to friends and family. i have no real friends. never have. when i was a little boy in school, i was bullied. in secondary school i got focused on my studies thinking that eventually, a degree would unlock a life of fabulous riches. but i eventually learned the hard way with years of unemployment that it wasnt, back then. i tried reaching out to people, online via a facebook group, but it descended to insults and hurtful remarks that left me banned and made me punched the wall. my family doesnt know about my feelings, becaise from what i have seen, mental health is seen as taboo. they'll just admonish me, shout me down, tell me to get a grip. i cant really talk to them because they're going to deny theres a problem. and i dont want to break their hearts, especially my parents. i rather soak the pain than bring them in it. i love them too much to see them feel hurt for me.
social groups - when going out, if its not work or a family function, i largely have social anxiety. i so badly want to meet women and get a girlfriend, who hopefully becomes my wife and eventual mother to my kids and form my new family, but i just seem incapable of it. i just cant get close to a woman at that personal and intimate level. if i try, it results in failure and embarassment. at the rare times i did try, it just doesnt come out right. i once went to salsa dancing class in a big city nearby, trying to talk to women, but the anxiety was so overwhelming, i couldnt breathe, and thought i was going to have a heart attack, i had to get out of there. i never been back since. i dont even go to pubs. i think about women more and more - even women i wasnt attracted to at first, drives me crazy now. i remember when leaving a job to move to another, a lady colleague i worked alot with hugged me, and it felt unlike anything i felt before. it was amazing. the softness, the warmth, the care...its as if i was missing that my whole life. i was close to crying. i want to experience true closeness, and intimacy.
thats not to say i'm a virgin. i lost my virginity at 30 to an escort; that was a unsatisfying experience as even then i had anxiety and couldnt perform properly - i did it because i didnt wanted to be the '30 year old virgin'. i just cant seem to get close with women. i tend to obsess about them. my instagram feed is full of attractive women. seeing beautiful ones on tv, even if its just the weather girl or news reader, it drives me nuts. in my job, i work with journalists, and theres many women there. i can talk to them confidently and easily, IF ITS ABOUT WORK. the instances i tried to talk about life in trying to get to know them and get close to them, the barrier goes up. i can tell because they wont add me on fb or whatever. i just cant seem to hack it with women. no woman = no wife = no mother to my children = no family of my own = no legacy.
i appreciate some might say not having family should not mean one is a failure. however, as much as i tried to ignore it, i come from a culture whereby family trumps everything else - money, career, hobbies, everything. i been ignoring it for years. trying to chase a career, which ended up as a string of dead end temporary jobs. losing 15 years of my life to this, living from temp job to temp job, and going to over 200 job interviews in getting secure employment, enduring hundreds of devastating rejections. but, years later, i now have at least job security, which is most important, but am beginning to feel the limit of my pay. trying to chase a career, spending nights throughout the 2010s playing video games and enjoying my gaming career in that, playing adventure games...but now i have reached a point where i've 'run out' of games to play and nothing (except maybe gta6) will interest me in picking up a controller again. i've grown out of it, it seems. i even been travelling more too - i travel far, and so big holidays. from usa, to africa, to europe, to india, and soon to be going to australia... doing all sorts of holidays from cruises, ranch holidays, safari, hiking, group road trips, wildlife conservation volunteering, sailing the mediterrarian - grand, amazing experiences that does suspend my worries... but in the end, i keep coming back to them, this feeling of emptiness.
my big fear is seeing my parents get older and dying from a broken heart caused by me. my dad worked in construction but is retired and now freelances, and he tends to hurt himself in accidents as he gets clumsy. my mother works in a school. i have always lived with my family except during the years i was at university. i feel my mum and dad are my 'best friends' - sad as it sounds -and the thought of them both going to die somepoint in the future, fills me with dread. because i feel i have failed them, in not continuing the family line. failing to secure a legacy for us. to keep us all going, surviving through the next generation. when i think about it deeply, our bloodline has been passed down for thousands of years, surviving through all sorts such as wars, plagues, and revolutions. i feel compelled to continue it, as if its a duty, and i dont want my parents to die with their last thoughts being disappointment. i can see it in my dads eyes already, the sadness. he wants to play with his grandchildren, but he has none, and all his friends shows off their grandkids. similarly with me, i see people i went to school with, and ex-colleagues i used to work with...they all have kids and a house of their own and a car. i have none of that. i stand NO chance buying a house of my own as i simply can't afford it, and renting will be throwing my money away living on other peoples crap. i said to my parents i want to inherit this home when they go, because my memories are here. my history. our family memories. my happy childhood memories, growing up, the birthdays, playing with my brother, my parents, the fun times growing up, coming back from school, doing homework, watching football together on the TV in the 90s, our first pc, all of it. all of these amazing experiences back then, i love to go through again, but this time with my own kids, seeing them grow up, playing with toys, drawing, having a first pet, etc...to navigate life with them as a father, and teaching them what i believe is required to be a good person.
before you say it, i'm not just doing it for my parents. i want a family for myself. i feel if i failed to have children, failed to find someone who loves me, failed to have any friends, failed to have had any influence or imprint on the world nomatter how small - i actually feel i'm not part of this world. to quote ellie from the last of us, my life would not have 'fkn mattered'. its as if i am a 'watcher', if that makes sense, not part of the fabric of this world and civilisation. watching it all from a window. that'll lead me to questions like why i am i here, leading to a probable, and painful, full-on existential crisis. when its my parents' time, when they grow old and die, and if i'm left all alone, i dont think i'd want to live anymore. i'm praying to find something. of course, i know i have to DO something, but my mind draws a blank. i cant ignore what my body is telling me anymore. but then, i step outside the house, and i dont know what to do, socially. when i approach someone, i get anxiety attacks. in my town, people are aggressive - its also possible if i approach a woman here i might end up getting assaulted, shouted at or shamed. sometimes theres no place to really go as i live in a small town. and as you get older, its harder to make friends, as people already have their established circles. i even remember my ex-manager talking to colleagues about this when we had a drink once and she asked 'how do you meet people' even though shes in her 50s and has established family and friends - indeed. how, for those who do not.
for coping, some people elsewhere suggested exercising. this is something i tend to do, but perhaps not enough of. i like to go on walks. theres a public park where i go and feed the ducks. seeing animals makes me happy. when the baby ducks swim to me wanting the kibble food it makes me feel wanted. i love animals. from dogs, cats and ducks - to even wild animals like the tigers i saw in india. i also did some hiking holidays, including going through some american national parks like yosemite, where i saw a family of bears at a distance. travelling is something i like to do too - in fact, i have more 'big' holidays coming up in usa again (alaska this summer), then australia, europe (croatia), the canadian rockies and maybe south america. i do these trips to get that out-of-body, 'blown away' feeling, of being thrilled, alive, and enjoying and experiencing life. it does help. but travelling is expensive. i'm not made of money.

social groups - when going out, if its not work or a family function, i largely have social anxiety. i so badly want to meet women and get a girlfriend, who hopefully becomes my wife and eventual mother to my kids and form my new family, but i just seem incapable of it. i just cant get close to a woman at that personal and intimate level. if i try, it results in failure and embarassment. at the rare times i did try, it just doesnt come out right. i once went to salsa dancing class in a big city nearby, trying to talk to women, but the anxiety was so overwhelming, i couldnt breathe, and thought i was going to have a heart attack, i had to get out of there. i never been back since. i dont even go to pubs. i think about women more and more - even women i wasnt attracted to at first, drives me crazy now. i remember when leaving a job to move to another, a lady colleague i worked alot with hugged me, and it felt unlike anything i felt before. it was amazing. the softness, the warmth, the care...its as if i was missing that my whole life. i was close to crying. i want to experience true closeness, and intimacy.
thats not to say i'm a virgin. i lost my virginity at 30 to an escort; that was a unsatisfying experience as even then i had anxiety and couldnt perform properly - i did it because i didnt wanted to be the '30 year old virgin'. i just cant seem to get close with women. i tend to obsess about them. my instagram feed is full of attractive women. seeing beautiful ones on tv, even if its just the weather girl or news reader, it drives me nuts. in my job, i work with journalists, and theres many women there. i can talk to them confidently and easily, IF ITS ABOUT WORK. the instances i tried to talk about life in trying to get to know them and get close to them, the barrier goes up. i can tell because they wont add me on fb or whatever. i just cant seem to hack it with women. no woman = no wife = no mother to my children = no family of my own = no legacy.
i appreciate some might say not having family should not mean one is a failure. however, as much as i tried to ignore it, i come from a culture whereby family trumps everything else - money, career, hobbies, everything. i been ignoring it for years. trying to chase a career, which ended up as a string of dead end temporary jobs. losing 15 years of my life to this, living from temp job to temp job, and going to over 200 job interviews in getting secure employment, enduring hundreds of devastating rejections. but, years later, i now have at least job security, which is most important, but am beginning to feel the limit of my pay. trying to chase a career, spending nights throughout the 2010s playing video games and enjoying my gaming career in that, playing adventure games...but now i have reached a point where i've 'run out' of games to play and nothing (except maybe gta6) will interest me in picking up a controller again. i've grown out of it, it seems. i even been travelling more too - i travel far, and so big holidays. from usa, to africa, to europe, to india, and soon to be going to australia... doing all sorts of holidays from cruises, ranch holidays, safari, hiking, group road trips, wildlife conservation volunteering, sailing the mediterrarian - grand, amazing experiences that does suspend my worries... but in the end, i keep coming back to them, this feeling of emptiness.
my big fear is seeing my parents get older and dying from a broken heart caused by me. my dad worked in construction but is retired and now freelances, and he tends to hurt himself in accidents as he gets clumsy. my mother works in a school. i have always lived with my family except during the years i was at university. i feel my mum and dad are my 'best friends' - sad as it sounds -and the thought of them both going to die somepoint in the future, fills me with dread. because i feel i have failed them, in not continuing the family line. failing to secure a legacy for us. to keep us all going, surviving through the next generation. when i think about it deeply, our bloodline has been passed down for thousands of years, surviving through all sorts such as wars, plagues, and revolutions. i feel compelled to continue it, as if its a duty, and i dont want my parents to die with their last thoughts being disappointment. i can see it in my dads eyes already, the sadness. he wants to play with his grandchildren, but he has none, and all his friends shows off their grandkids. similarly with me, i see people i went to school with, and ex-colleagues i used to work with...they all have kids and a house of their own and a car. i have none of that. i stand NO chance buying a house of my own as i simply can't afford it, and renting will be throwing my money away living on other peoples crap. i said to my parents i want to inherit this home when they go, because my memories are here. my history. our family memories. my happy childhood memories, growing up, the birthdays, playing with my brother, my parents, the fun times growing up, coming back from school, doing homework, watching football together on the TV in the 90s, our first pc, all of it. all of these amazing experiences back then, i love to go through again, but this time with my own kids, seeing them grow up, playing with toys, drawing, having a first pet, etc...to navigate life with them as a father, and teaching them what i believe is required to be a good person.
before you say it, i'm not just doing it for my parents. i want a family for myself. i feel if i failed to have children, failed to find someone who loves me, failed to have any friends, failed to have had any influence or imprint on the world nomatter how small - i actually feel i'm not part of this world. to quote ellie from the last of us, my life would not have 'fkn mattered'. its as if i am a 'watcher', if that makes sense, not part of the fabric of this world and civilisation. watching it all from a window. that'll lead me to questions like why i am i here, leading to a probable, and painful, full-on existential crisis. when its my parents' time, when they grow old and die, and if i'm left all alone, i dont think i'd want to live anymore. i'm praying to find something. of course, i know i have to DO something, but my mind draws a blank. i cant ignore what my body is telling me anymore. but then, i step outside the house, and i dont know what to do, socially. when i approach someone, i get anxiety attacks. in my town, people are aggressive - its also possible if i approach a woman here i might end up getting assaulted, shouted at or shamed. sometimes theres no place to really go as i live in a small town. and as you get older, its harder to make friends, as people already have their established circles. i even remember my ex-manager talking to colleagues about this when we had a drink once and she asked 'how do you meet people' even though shes in her 50s and has established family and friends - indeed. how, for those who do not.
for coping, some people elsewhere suggested exercising. this is something i tend to do, but perhaps not enough of. i like to go on walks. theres a public park where i go and feed the ducks. seeing animals makes me happy. when the baby ducks swim to me wanting the kibble food it makes me feel wanted. i love animals. from dogs, cats and ducks - to even wild animals like the tigers i saw in india. i also did some hiking holidays, including going through some american national parks like yosemite, where i saw a family of bears at a distance. travelling is something i like to do too - in fact, i have more 'big' holidays coming up in usa again (alaska this summer), then australia, europe (croatia), the canadian rockies and maybe south america. i do these trips to get that out-of-body, 'blown away' feeling, of being thrilled, alive, and enjoying and experiencing life. it does help. but travelling is expensive. i'm not made of money.

For years, the residents of Red Vale mined a unique, deep-red ore called "crimsonite" that was believed to have properties unlike any other mineral. It was said to gleam brighter under the moon and was much sought after for crafting jewelry, enhancing magic, being a power source and spellcraft material, fetching high prices in distant markets.
However, in recent times, the once-prosperous Red Vale has gained notoriety for other reasons. As the crimsonite veins ran deeper and rarer, miners began reporting strange occurrences within the tunnels: ghostly apparitions of old miners, eerie whispers echoing from the depths, and shadows that seemed to move of their own accord. Some miners never returned from their shifts, with search parties finding only abandoned tools and lanterns.
Above ground, things started to take a turn for the eerie as well. Local legends spoke of the "Blood Moon Rituals" — on certain nights, when the moon turns a deep shade of red, supernatural events peak. The town's water source sometimes runs blood-red, livestock behave erratically, and dark shadows seem to roam every corner.
As more and more unexplained phenomena plague Red Vale, the town has seen a new influx of visitors — not miners, but ghost hunters, paranormal researchers, and thrill-seekers. The locals, a hardy and resilient bunch, have mixed feelings. Some believe the town is cursed due to the over-mining of crimsonite, while others surmise that the spirits of the mountain are reclaiming what is rightfully theirs.

The PSE issued suspensions to three companies [link] prior to the open of trade on Friday morning for failure to submit FY23 Annual Reports. The three companies suspended are Phoenix Petroleum [PNX 4.17 ▼0.2%; 0% avgVol], Chelsea Logistics [C 1.30 ▲4.0%; 0% avgVol], and Philippine Infradev [INFRA 0.53 ▲1.9%; 0% avgVol]. AgriNurture [ANI 0.62 ▲8.8%; 305% avgVol] narrowly avoided suspension by submitting its Annual Report 38 minutes before the PSE’s suspension deadline. The ANI FY23 Annual Report disclosure erroneously reports a net income improvement of 1560% to ₱146 million, instead of a ₱146 million net loss, perhaps this oversight comes from a behind-the-scenes race to submit before the deadline.
- MB: I’m married to an accountant who did the auditing grind for years, so I know that it’s not easy to put these reports together; they’re complex and knock-ons from problems in any of the subsidiaries can cause problems that ripple up the chain and back down. That being said, producing these annual reports is something of a bare-minimum condition of public corporate life. Every management group rides its accounting department and its auditing team into the dirt to get its quarterly and annual reports out on time. I don’t have any inside knowledge into why PNX, C, and INFRA are in this position, but I listen to the silence from these management groups. Good teams communicate with their minority shareholders in times of uncertainty, and a trading suspension is a time of great uncertainty for retail investors.
- [NEWS] **Ayala Corp sells remains of its MWC holdings to Enrique Razon for ₱14.5-B... Ayala Corp [AC 620.00 ▲1.3%; 131% avgVol] [link] disclosed that its subsidiaries, Michigan Holdings and Philwater Holdings, would sell their combined holdings in Manila Water Company [MWC 26.60 ▼1.5%; 123% avgVol] to Trident Water Company Holdings (TWC), which is owned by MWC’s current owner, Enrique Razon. The combined value of the two sales to TWC is ₱14.5 billion. The block of shares coming to TWC through Michigan Holdings was already processed and paid-for (~₱12.9 billion), and the remaining ₱1.6 billion worth of shares from Philwater Holdings will be purchased in installments over the next five years. AC confirmed that it will have no post-transaction common share interest in MWC, and that its voting stake will be “nil”.
- MB: In a weird way, the transfer of ownership and control of MWC from the Zobel Family to the Razon Family is one of the only lasting “achievements” of the Duterte administration. I put “achievements” in quotation marks because it’s not clear how the President’s overreach into the public markets benefitted anyone other than the obvious (MWC’s current owner). As longtime readers of MB will know I have a deep respect for Mr. Razon’s business acumen and operational quality, but I don’t know that MWC customers have necessarily felt any change as a result of this transfer, and I don’t know that minority shareholders have felt any change either. So maybe it was just Mr. Razon in the right place at the right time while Duterte rode the media waves of threatening the Zobels with death and dismemberment? Yeah, it was a weird time.

- “Hi I'm Jennelyn. I'm a Civil Engineer by profession in a government organization. I started trading back in 2020 for a year. I was reckless back then, but I've learned a lot, I'd say. I stopped trading in 2021 to focus on my career and I shifted my trading journey to learning first. Now with the Trading Cup I've found another motivation to push through. I tried day trading, and it was really frustrating and draining, so this time I'm doing swing trading through price action and volume.
- “My name is Sef. I'm currently in college studying Management. I've been mostly self-taught but over the years I took a lot of learnings from other people. I've tried a lot of strategies but most of the time I'm a swing trader. So, I try to look for strong catalysts and take positions within times of consolidations. My implementation of it during the competition hasn't been perfect, partly due to finals week. But I trust in the process. I've been trading in the PSE for 5 years now. I only started trading the US markets and Crypto, recently. I think my current performance in the competition is reflective of my experience within the three markets. [PSE: +17.4%, CRYPTO: +4.2%, US: -11.5%]. We still have a few months to go and it's still anyone's game. A lot of the top leaderboard right now is primarily driven by 1 or 2 positions that no one saw coming, I think you can guess which stocks I'm referring to.

My goal in founding Team MB is to give readers a little insight into the thought processes behind the winning and losing trades of each team member. - [NEWS] Alternergy conducts first public Q&A since IPO... Alternergy [ALTER 0.70 ▲1.4%; 159% avgVol] presented its Q1 results on Wednesday as part of the PSE’s STAR Investor Day event, and MB was there to document its first public Q&A with institutional and retail investors since its IPO over a year ago. For me, the most interesting component of any STAR presentation is the Q&A, because it’s where we get the chance to hear the management team talk outside of the the cold forensics of the financial statements to address the hope, fear, optimism, and pessisim of the average investor.
- On enhancing shareholder value: The ALTER team said that it’s focus is on controlling what it can control, and that as a developer, it does everything that it can to complete projects “within the timeline and committed budget”, increase its pipeline, and build good relationships with stakeholders.
- On its growth strategy: ALTER said that its “DNA is a developer”, and therefore its “preference is brownfield development” as opposed to acquisitions. (MB note: “Brownfield” means development on land that has been previously used for some other purpose. “Greenfield” would be development on untouched land.) The management team said that it is open to being “opportunistic” with acquisitions, but that its overall focus is on “looking for projects from the ground and building them toward completion.”
- On outlook of renewables market: “The power industry is really at the point where there is a sustained pressure towards a price increase.” The ALTER team said that there’s a shortage of power supply, and what existing supply there is will come under pressure as power plants age or weather phenomena disrupt operations. ALTER said that it’s strategy is to simply grow its portfolio into this market gap, especially over the next two years.
- On wind vs solar: The ALTER team was asked whether it was intentional to be “more exposed to wind rather than solar”, and ALTER responded by saying that while both wind and solar are scalable, they “like wind” because it generates more electricity per installed capacity. As the ALTER team put it: “For instance, if we build a 50 MW solar, you’ll only need a 25 MW wind project to match the amount of energy that we will be generating.” ALTER said that wind is also less intensive in terms of land use to generate the same amount of energy, and that its analysis shows that wind projects generate more cash flow than solar projects.
- On starting to distribute dividends: *One question asked when ALTER would start paying dividends, and the ALTER team responded (after a laugh) that it’s “all about resource allocation”. ALTER said that at this stage, it’s a growth company, and that it would like to use its resources to build a “sizeable portfolio over the medium term” with the goal of “increasing shareholder value.” ALTER said that once it has achieved that goal, “dividend payments would not be far behind.
- MB:Kudos to any management team that takes questions from the public. It’s not easy to be this communicative and transparent, but as a long-term investor, this kind of insight into the management team’s thinking and analysis of their own data and the market as a whole is important. If your trading style is technical, ALTER’s analysis of wind versus solar isn’t going to matter to you at all, but if your thesis is based on bets in the power generation sector, that response might trigger some research that could be helpful. Overall I’d say that the ALTER team did very well. It was clear that they were nervous, but over time I’m sure the team will become more comfortable with answering the questions and interacting with the investing community in such a person-to-person way. Problem
I run my Home Assistant in a docker container on a server in my house. I have lost Home Assistant configs before and here are the challenges I found:- I've run Duplicati before, but that requires turning off the container to do it right. And something about automating a container to go down and come back to backup seems hacky.
- I've seen solutions to create a file out of the running container, but that seems a bit too much.
Solution
At some point in the last year, Home Assistant introduced a service to generate backups. The backups are a tar file that get dumped into the /config/backups directory.If I could automate generating a backup and moving the backup off my computer I'd essentially create an automated backup solution.
How I Did It

- Then I created an automation to run every morning at 1 AM.
- I then configured rclone for Google Drive and generated the config file. I followed the directions at https://kdckrs.eu/posts/mount-google-drive-folder-on-local-server-using-rclone-docker-containe
- Generated a docker compose file

This will create two containers. One that will expose the Google drive in the local filesystem and another to only run a cronjob (Before you scream in terror it is an Alpine image, so it's not a total waste)
I keep all of my docker container files under a directory at /docker each service then gets a subfolder /dockeha /dockerclone etc
These three lines are important because without them fusermount cannot mount the google drive

It looks in the folder for files and takes the most recently created and saves it to a specified folder in the format of YYYY_mm_dd.tar because normally the tar files are generated by Home Assistant with (seemingly random) file names.
- Finally I created a crontab file by the name of ha-backup-crontab and put it in the /dockecron folder
This will cause it to run at 2 AM daily.
