2024.04.10 17:33 The_Quorum CinemaCon 2024: MICKEY 17 And Other Ruminations From The Warner Bros. Presentation

Five years ago, on the same stage, Warner’s presented the trailer for JOKER for the very first time. It remains one of the most electric CinemaCon moments in recent memory. You just knew this movie was going to be huge.
Director Todd Phillips returned to the stage to present the first look at JOKER: FOLIE A DEUX. Warner’s has not been super forthcoming about the fact that DEUX is a musical, despite the casting of Lady Gaga as “Harley Quinn.” The trailer is filled with music, though it doesn’t feature any “musical numbers .” At times, the trailer evokes the surreal theatricality of LA LA LAND. While not as thrilling as seeing the JOKER trailer five years ago, Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga appear to have great chemistry. It may not top the box office of the first film, but it certainly looks like a winner.
Jeff Goldstein and Andrew Cripps kicked off the presentation in full BEETLEJUICE costumes before passing the MC baton to Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy. First up was FURIOSA. Director George Miller, Anya Taylor Joy, and Chris Hemsworth came on stage to introduce an extended clip. This was by far the most electrifying video of the WB presentation, which is good news given that the tracking for the film has been muted to date.
Next up was THE WATCHERS, a horror film directed by M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter Ishana Shyamalan. This looks like a rather conventional film, though Ishana has a great eye. The visuals are quite striking.
After that, James Gunn appeared on video to talk about the upcoming SUPERMAN along with a reveal of the new Superman logo, though, oddly, it wasn’t called out. The new logo distorts the “S” into a more abstract representation. Peter Saffron appeared in person to introduce SUPER MAN, the biodoc on Christopher Reeve, which is getting a full theatrical release later this year. Very moving. And synergistic.
This was followed by Kevin Costner arriving on stage to introduce new footage of HORIZON: AN AMERICAN SAGA. Costner imbued the proceedings with the most gravitas of all the stars making cameos during the presentation. He was genuinely moved when he received a standing ovation. And, quite frankly, it was well deserved. We got a big-screen collage highlighting Costner’s numerous landmark films. There are a lot of them. He is a giant.
Set in the American west around the time of the Civil War, HORIZON is cut from the same cloth as mega-hit YELLOWSTONE. Costner described the film as less plot-driven and more of a journey piece. The clips we saw seemed to confirm that. There were lots of scenes of people pointing guns. The plot was less clear. Part 1 arrives in June, and Part 2 will come in August; HORIZON presents a unique marketing challenge for WB.
The most unexpected moment of the night was the introduction of Bong Joon-ho, who was joined on stage by Robert Pattinson and Bong’s interpreter. The Oscar winning director gave us a first look at MICKEY 17. Set on a spacecraft, Pattinson plays an “expendable” who dies multiple times (17 to be precise) and is regenerated numerous times as part of his job. A glitch happens when a so-called duplicate “Mickey” is created, leaving the two to duke it out.
Several moments are wonderfully outlandish, including Pattenson’s voice, which seems to be a register higher than usual. The trailer makes the most of the cast, including Mark Ruffalo (in what looks like another bonkers role on the heels of POOR THINGS), Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, and Toni Collette. All are prominently featured.
What caught us off guard was the humor. The film looks very funny. The entire clip was set against Frank Sinatra’s “Ain’t That A Kick in The Head .” This one may not be for everyone, but we’ll be there opening night.
Like his daughter, M. Night Shyamalan also has a movie on the WB slate. TRAP tells the story of a doting father, played by Josh Hartnett (loving the JH Renaissance), who takes his teenage daughter to see a Lady Gaga-ish concert. It turns out that the entire concert is an elaborate trap set up by the police, who learned that an elusive serial killer was planning to be at the concert. Everyone is trapped inside. It’s a super sticky concept.
Finally, Tim Burton, Michel Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux came on stage to introduce BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE. Burton gave us a BTS clip, followed by the trailer. Burton appears to have captured the magic of BEETLEJUICE once again. As we’ve noted here and here, this should be big.

2024.04.08 05:29 WinterNo4971 Lingfield (UK) Analysis & Predictions for Monday

Below is the previews, analysis and predictions for the meeting from Lingfield in the UK on Monday covering all races on the card.

Lingfield 2.00 Race 1 - 1m (1m1y) Enjoy The Racing App For Free Amateur Jockeys' Handicap (Class 6) (4yo+ 0-65)

Key Runner Analysis:

  1. Rabinal - Despite recent struggles, Rabinal has shown some promise with two wins at 7f earlier in the year. His tendency to race keenly could be an issue, but a return to class 6 might help. His ability to settle will be key.
  2. Verona Star - Has shown flashes of capability but often races too keenly. Dropping back into class 6 could benefit him if he manages to harness his energy effectively.
  3. Sea Of Charm - Consistently running well without winning, making her hard to peg for a win, especially with an amateur jockey taking their first ride under rules.
  4. King Of The Dance - A course and distance win underlines potential; however, a disappointing stable debut last time out and the absence of headgear this time pose questions.
  5. My Brother Mike - Recent win against a subsequent winner marks him as a contender, though his Lingfield record is mixed, and he carries a 6lb higher mark.
  6. Swiss Pride - A seasoned campaigner trying 1m for the first time. His vast experience could be an asset or a hindrance in this new test.
  7. Daffin - An unexposed filly who showed promise on handicap debut. The step up to 1m could suit, but the jockey's inexperience is a concern.
  8. Luna Magic - Creditable recent runs make her one to watch, but she'll need to find a bit more to convert that into a win.
  9. Sienna Breeze - Has struggled to break from the gates promptly which could hinder chances from stall 1, though she's only lightly penalized from her last win.
  10. Daisy Roots - A previous course and distance win hints at potential; however, the wide draw could be challenging.
  11. Senseofentitlement - Recent form for the new yard hasn't been encouraging, making him a less likely contender.
  12. Angel On High - Typically competes over longer distances, so stamina is assured. The introduction of cheekpieces could spark improvement.

Race Preview and Top Contenders:

Given the race dynamics and the unique aspect of amateur jockeys, horses that can run prominently or have shown versatility in race tactics might have an edge.Top 4 Predicted Chances:
  1. My Brother Mike - Recent form and versatility put him slightly ahead in a mixed field.
  2. Rabinal - If he can settle better than last time, his class drop makes him a significant threat.
  3. Swiss Pride - His experience and consistent form at shorter distances could translate well if he adapts to the mile.
  4. Daffin - The unexposed profile and potential shown in previous outings make her an interesting prospect.
Possible Surprises:
The race's outcome will likely hinge on pace dynamics, jockey ability to manage their mounts effectively, and horses' adaptability to the mile distance at Lingfield.

Lingfield 2.30 Race 2 - 1m (1m1y) Try The Racing App This Afternoon Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Class 5) (3yo+)

Key Runner Analysis:

  1. Cynosure - Stands out with a Lingfield course and distance 2nd in November, now gelded, indicating readiness for a strong performance. With the yard in good form, he's a top contender.
  2. Winterfair - Showed promise by winning at Wolverhampton on her second start, albeit narrowly. Penalized for that win but remains unexposed and could improve.
  3. Operate - Posted encouraging efforts on AW this year and shows promise for improvement, though needs to step up to challenge the leading contenders.
  4. Lucentio - Had a promising debut but disappointed in the next outing on AW. A wind operation since last seen could lead to improvement, making him a wildcard.
  5. Devoirs Choice - Showed potential in two starts this year, suggesting room for improvement. The step up in trip could suit based on breeding.
  6. Surrey Force - Similar form in two runs at Kempton suggests potential, but might find a better opportunity over longer distances.
  7. Waistcoat - Only one run to date, showing greenness, but breeding suggests he could offer more on stable debut for Richard Hannon.
  8. Laser Focus - Low-grade hurdler with less compelling flat form. Appears to be aiming for handicaps rather than making an impact here.
  9. Cavriana - Difficult to recommend based on a single run finishing far behind; would need significant improvement.

Race Preview and Top Contenders:

Given the dynamics of novice races and considering the field's relative inexperience, the ability to handle Lingfield's Polytrack and potential for improvement are crucial.Top 4 Predicted Chances:
  1. Cynosure - The solid C&D performance and subsequent gelding point to a significant chance in this field. The yard's current form boosts confidence.
  2. Winterfair - Despite the penalty, her win and training under William Haggas suggest she has plenty of untapped potential.
  3. Operate - With a decent pedigree and encouraging efforts, could be in the mix if he steps forward as expected.
  4. Devoirs Choice - Promising efforts suggest he's ready to compete, and Ed Walker's guidance could see further improvement.
Possible Surprises:
Outside Chance:
The race seems set for a competitive showdown, with several promising runners capable of stepping up. The outcome could well hinge on who has progressed most over the winter and who adapts best to the conditions on the day.

Lingfield 3.00 Race 3 - 1m4f At The Races App Form Study Handicap (Class 6) (3yo 0-55)

Key Analysis:

  1. Elforleather showed promise on handicap debut, finishing third despite the winners being well clear. This effort suggests he's a strong contender here, especially if able to build on that performance.
  2. Something To Do has a win at this venue and distance but has been inconsistent since. However, his prior success here cannot be ignored, and a return to form could see him in contention.
  3. Publicity has placed in minor handicaps this winter and is trying a new trip, which could potentially unlock further improvement. His recent form suggests he's ready to compete at this level.
  4. Compton Bay has shown fair form over shorter distances and if he can handle the step up in trip, he could surprise. However, his tendency to race too freely could be a concern over this longer distance.
  5. Rubio De Oro has consistent placings in handicaps this year but has yet to break through. While not the most progressive in the field, his steady form could see him in the mix.
  6. Jailbird has two fair runs in handicaps and steps up in trip, which might bring about improvement based on breeding. However, she needs to show more to be a top contender.

Race Preview and Predicted Top Contenders:

The race appears open, with several horses capable of making their mark if they step up on their recent form or handle the conditions well.Top 4 Predicted Chances:
  1. Elforleather - Stands out based on his last effort and the potential for improvement is evident. One to watch closely in the betting.
  2. Something To Do - Given his course and distance win, a bounce back to his best form would make him a key player.
  3. Publicity - The new trip could be what he needs to find the winning formula, making him an interesting contender.
  4. Compton Bay - If he can settle better over this longer trip, he has the potential to challenge the top spots.
Possible Surprise:
In summary, the race looks set for an intriguing contest with a few horses standing out based on their recent efforts and potential for improvement at this distance. Betting patterns and any market moves for the likes of Elforleather and Something To Do could be particularly revealing in gauging their chances.

Lingfield 3.30 Race 4 - 6f (6f1y) Download The Racing App Now Handicap (Class 4) (3yo 0-78)

Key Analysis:

  1. Western has shown promise over this distance on the Polytrack and comes into this race gelded since his last outing. His consistency at the end of his two-year-old season suggests he's a solid contender, especially with Sean Levey aboard for the Richard Hannon team.
  2. Piz Nair demonstrated potential in his two-year-old campaign but struggled on soft ground in his handicap debut. Being gelded and returning from a break could see improvement, making him a wildcard in this race.
  3. Torvar excels at shorter distances but faces a challenge at this level on the weights. His effectiveness on Polytrack is a plus, but he may find this company too competitive.
  4. Kinnigoli Kid had excuses in his defeats since a debut win and now tries a tongue tie. He could bounce back, but this field looks tough.
  5. Mart has been in fine form for his new yard, including a win over course and distance. His recent second-place finish at Lingfield indicates he remains competitive and should be considered closely.
  6. Let's Get Em showed promise on debut but was disappointing thereafter. Gelded and with a significant break, he could be rejuvenated, but the betting market might be the best guide to his chances.

Predicted Top Contenders:

  1. Mart - Given his recent form, course and distance win, and solid performance last time out, he seems well-suited to challenge again here.
  2. Western - His consistency and potential improvements post-gelding position him as a strong contender, especially with a capable team behind him.
  3. Piz Nair - If he can rebound from his last effort and show the form he hinted at in his juvenile year, he could surprise.
  4. Torvar - Although facing a weights challenge, his speed over shorter distances could keep him competitive if he manages to handle the competition.
  5. Kinnigoli Kid - A return to his debut form could see him in the mix, though he'll need to overcome recent setbacks.

Race Preview:

This race is shaping up to be a closely contested affair, with several horses bringing interesting form lines into the mix. Mart's recent performances make him a key player, while Western has the potential for significant improvement. Piz Nair and Let's Get Em are somewhat unknown quantities with potential upside, making this a particularly intriguing race for punters. The outcome could hinge on which horses have developed most over the winter and how well they adapt to the day's conditions and race dynamics.

Lingfield 4.00 Race 5 - 5f (5f6y) Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 / EBF Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Class 4) (2yo)

Analysis and Predictions:

  1. Roysdelight showed promise in the market for the Brocklesby but had a troubled run, finishing 12th. Improvement is expected, as debut outings often serve as learning experiences, especially under conditions similar to Lingfield's Polytrack.
  2. Target Man comes into this race without any prior race experience but commands attention due to his pedigree and the purchase price. Being a half-brother to a Grade 3 winner in the US and sired by Earthlight, he could possess significant natural speed and class. The George Boughey and Billy Loughnane partnership adds to the intrigue, suggesting readiness for a solid debut.
  3. Kuwaitya made a promising start, finishing second at Newcastle, showcasing potential with room for improvement. Her experience and demonstrated ability under race conditions mark her as a contender capable of building on her debut performance.
  4. Subsonictoshannon is another debutant with an interesting pedigree, being a daughter of Invincible Spirit. The family ties to Muhaarar suggest sprinting talent, and the market's response to her introduction will be telling of her readiness and potential.

Predicted Top Contenders:

  1. Kuwaitya - Given her race experience and the ability she displayed on debut, she looks set to improve and is a major player here.
  2. Target Man - The significant purchase price and strong connections hint at high expectations. His breeding suggests he could be a standout on debut.
  3. Roysdelight - Expected to improve from his debut experience, and if he can correct the issues from the Brocklesby, he might challenge the field.
  4. Subsonictoshannon - As a wild card, her pedigree suggests sprinting prowess. The market's reaction to her will be crucial in gauging her chances.

Race Preview:

This race offers a mix of limited experience and debutants with notable pedigrees. Kuwaitya's performance at Newcastle sets a tangible form standard, making her the one to beat. However, Target Man enters with lofty expectations given his pedigree and connections, positioning him as a potential threat without having raced. Roysdelight looks to build on his Brocklesby experience, potentially improving enough to contend seriously. Subsonictoshannon introduces an element of the unknown; her pedigree and connections suggest she could be a factor. This race promises to offer insights into some exciting future prospects, with pedigree and trainer patterns likely playing significant roles in the outcome.

Lingfield 4.30 Race 6 - 5f (5f6y) At The Races App Market Movers Handicap (Class 6) (4yo+ 0-55)

Key Contenders Analysis:

  1. Wedgewood shows promising signs of form with her recent outings indicating an uptick. The combination of Tony Carroll and William Carson suggests a team capable of maximizing her potential, especially given her encouraging performances at similar levels.
  2. Victors Dream remains a maiden but has shown glimpses of potential that could translate into success in this class. Marco Botti and Jimmy Quinn bring experience and insight, possibly readying this runner for a breakthrough, especially with the horse being on a seemingly generous mark.
  3. Suanni has demonstrated the capacity to compete at this level, with performances suggesting he's right around a winning effort. The Darryll Holland and David Probert team could harness his proven form on the surface for a strong showing.
  4. Autumn Flight carries risk with fluctuating performances, yet his experience on the track and affinity for the distance, combined with Phil McEntee's guidance, could yield a surprise. However, his inconsistent form makes him a less predictable factor.
  5. Perfect Symphony has had challenges translating efforts into victories recently but has conditions that could see an improvement. With Mark Pattinson's preparation and a suitable race setup, an enhanced performance might be in the offing.
  6. Hurricane Alert returns after a significant layoff and a stable change, making him a dark horse in this contest. The lengthy absence raises questions, but the fresh environment might invigorate his performance.

Predicted Top Performers:

  1. Wedgewood: Given her upward trajectory in form and the potential for further improvement, she stands out as a leading contender in this matchup.
  2. Victors Dream: His proximity to finding the winner's circle and potential advantage from a fitting race pace scenario earmark him as a strong challenger.
  3. Suanni: With the right race dynamics and based on his near-miss efforts, he's poised to be in the thick of the action, potentially breaking through for a win.
  4. Autumn Flight: While carrying risks due to inconsistency, his best efforts suggest he could vie for a significant placing if returning to form.
  5. Perfect Symphony: If he can recapture some of his old spark, he may outperform expectations, making him a potential surprise package.

Overview:

This race appears open, with several horses having plausible claims under ideal circumstances. The key will likely be which runners best adapt to the day's conditions and who can exploit the likely pace scenario. The combination of current form, course suitability, and experienced jockey/trainer partnerships will be decisive.

Lingfield 5.00 Race 7 - 1m2f Sky Sports Racing HD Virgin 519 Fillies' Handicap (Class 5) (3yo+ 0-68)

Top Contenders:

  1. Meleri: Finishing her last season with a win, she's on a fair mark and making her AW debut. The Jim Boyle and Luke Catton combination could be intriguing, especially considering her potential to handle the synthetic surface well.
  2. Ciara Pearl: She ended the previous year on a promising note with a win and two close seconds. Transitioning to handicapping with Daniel & Claire Kubler's guidance, she's an unexposed threat especially with Jim Crowley aboard.
  3. Shalfa: This Lydia Richards-trained mare notched a C&D win earlier in the year and could be underestimated here despite recent form. Her last run was better than the finishing position suggests, making her a solid each-way option.
  4. Belleplaine: Put in a strong second on stable debut last month and returns to a longer trip, which seems to suit her well. The Joseph Parr and Neil Callan team looks poised for a good performance.
  5. Hotaugustnight: After transitioning from Irish racing, she showed fair efforts in higher-grade company lately. With Kevin Philippart De Foy preparing her and Richard Kingscote in the saddle, she's a compelling choice for at least a place.
  6. Certain Style: Coming off a second-place finish in a C&D classified event suggests there's potential for improvement. While facing tougher opposition here, Laura Mongan's training could see her stepping up.

Others to Watch:

Race Preview:

This race presents a blend of horses with proven form and potential improvers. Meleri tops the list for her solid finish last season, but the AW debut is a question mark. Ciara Pearl seems ready to step up in her handicapping debut, showing much promise. Shalfa and Belleplaine have shown enough to suggest they could be right there at the finish, with Hotaugustnight and Certain Style rounding out the major chances due to their recent promising runs and potential for improvement. The race dynamics and how well each horse adapts to the Lingfield Polytrack will be crucial. Watch for any market moves for Ciara Pearl, given her unexposed profile and potential upside, and keep an eye on Meleri and Shalfa for their proven ability at this track and distance.

2024.04.02 02:18 autobuzzfeedbot 39 Wild Connections Between Celebs That Actually Kind Of Blew My Mind

  1. Elton John is Eminem's AA sponsor, which I still can't believe but is kind of...wholesome?
  2. Dolly Parton met Keanu Reeves when he was a little kid because his mom made many of her costumes, including her Playboy Bunny costume. In fact, Keanu went as Dolly in the Playboy Bunny costume for Halloween one year. (I need photos of this.)
  3. Speaking of Keanu — Alice Cooper babysat him when he was a kid. Cooper didn't even realize the kid he'd babysat was Keanu until Reeves revealed Cooper had babysat him on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Apparently, fake poop in the fridge was somehow involved?
  4. Cameron Diaz went to high school with Snoop Dogg, and she's "pretty sure" she bought weed from him, which checks out.
  5. Meghan Markle did the calligraphy for Robin Thicke's 2005 wedding invitations — not because the two were friends, but because the then-23-year-old was doing calligraphy to make ends meet before making it in Hollywood.
  6. Alicia Keys and Timothée Chalamet grew up in the same building. Larry David also lived there at one point, along with Terrence Howard, Tennessee Williams, Angela Lansbury, Mickey Rourke, and Patrick Dempsey...so I'm convinced there's some special star-making power in the water at this building.
  7. And guess who was the first security guard of that building? Samuel L. Jackson.
  8. Mick Foley and Kevin James went to high school together, and were even on the same wrestling team, where they competed against each other "day in and day out," according to Foley. He even got in on the Kevin James memes to joke about the old days.
  9. Tommy Lee Jones and Al Gore lived together at Harvard, which I honestly cannot imagine.
  10. One of my fave celeb connections? Lauryn Hill went to Zach Braff's bar mitzvah, and they were even partners during the game "Coke and Pepsi."
  11. I'm kind of in shock that Christian Bale's stepmother is feminist rights icon Gloria Steinem.
  12. And Matthew Perry's stepdad was Keith Morrison of Dateline fame.
  13. Speaking of Perry — he went to school with Justin Trudeau as a kid and even claimed he beat him up in the fifth grade because "I think he was excelling at a sport that we weren't as good at. It was pure jealousy."
  14. Jamie Dornan and Eddie Redmayne were roommates before they were famous. At the time, they also hung out with Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield, and Charlie Cox. I'm still searching the mail for my invite, TBH.
  15. Alexis Neirs (y'know, of Bling Ring/Pretty Wild/"Nancy Jo, This Is Alexis Neiers Calling" fame) babysat Doja Cat.
  16. And Chloe Sevigny babysat Topher Grace — Topher even had a crush on her.
  17. Mara Wilson and Ben Shapiro are cousins, and I can't IMAGINE how awkward those holiday meals are.
  18. Joe Rogan and Gerard Way, the lead singer of My Chemical Romance, are also cousins. Sorry, but I'd make Rogan sit at the kid's table — or in the garage by himself — at Thanksgiving.
  19. Nas is Yara Shahidi's cousin, which is one Christmas dinner I'd like to attend.
  20. Scarlett Johansson and Jack Antanoff dated in high school and even went to prom together, which is so bizarre to me. They broke up after graduation, reportedly due to Johansson's rising fame, and Antanoff wrote the song "Better Love" about her.
  21. Ed Sheeran slept on Jamie Fox's couch for six weeks when he first moved to LA. He bought a one-way ticket there for a single gig, trying to keep the momentum going, and ended up on Jamie Foxx's radio show The Foxxhole, which led to performing at Foxx's live music night, and then eventually sleeping on his couch and using his in-home recording studio for free.
  22. Denzel Washington paid for Chadwick Boseman and a group of his classmates at Howard University to attend a summer theater program at The University of Oxford. When they ran into each other years later, after Boseman had made it big, Denzel joked to Chadwick that he owed him money.
  23. Children's poet and author Shel Silverstein worked for Playboy Magazine and often hung out at Hugh Hefner's mansion. If The Giving Tree was written at the Playboy Mansion, I'm sorry, I'm never going to look at it the same way again,
  24. Dominic Cooper and James Corden used to be roommates. Cooper introduced Corden to his wife, Julia Carey. That's cute and all, but I honestly cannot picture Cooper and Corden hanging out.
  25. After meeting in a playwriting class, Owen Wilson and Wes Anderson became college roommates, and they were both kind of delinquents! Apparently, they had issues with their landlord, who wouldn't fix their broken windows, so they staged a fake break-in. They also ended up moving out in the middle of the night, causing a private investigator to track them down. Oh, and Anderson once wrote a paper Wilson passed off as his.
  26. Before skyrocketing to fame, Harrison Ford worked on a camera crew for The Doors, helping film a road tour movie. Apparently, they partied too hard even for him, leading Ford to say he wanted to join a monastery afterward.
  27. Larry David and Bernie Sanders are distant cousins, which is hilarious considering how many times David has parodied him.
  28. Pedro Pascal and Sarah Paulson have been friends since the early '90s before they found fame. One of the first times they hung out, they saw Woody Harrelson at a park and bonded over being fans of Harrelson. When Paulson began to book work, she would give Pascal money so he could afford to eat. And this is why they're the internet's Mom and Dad!
  29. Werner Herzog once rescued Joaquin Phoenix from his upside-down car after he got in a crash. Herzog happened to be passing by and saw the wreckage. Phoenix says he heard a "gentle tap" and a "calming and beautiful" German voice telling him to relax, which made him feel safe. Herzog helped him from the car and then disappeared moments later. "I got out of the car and I said thank you, and he was gone," Phoenix recounted.
  30. Martin Luther King Jr. paid the hospital bill when Julia Roberts was born. Why? Roberts' parents ran a theater school that let in the Kings' children at a time when few programs would admit Black children. When her parents couldn't pay the hospital bill, Martin and Coretta stepped in.
  31. Speaking of Coretta Scott King, she babysat John Lithgow when he was a kid, which is beyond random.
  32. And speaking of MLK Jr., his father, Martin Luther King Sr., was once held hostage by Samuel L. Jackson. Jackson was part of a group protest against the administration and curriculum, which involved locking the school's board (which included Dr. King) in a room using chains from the walkways for a day and a half. At one point, Dr. King had chest pains, so they "put him on a ladder, put him out the window, and sent him down." Jackson ended up being kicked out of school for the protest.
  33. This is especially surprising considering Jackson had been an usher at Martin Luther King Jr's funeral the year prior.
  34. One last Martin Luther King Jr. celebrity connection — King once met Star Trek star Nichelle Nichols at an NAACP event and convinced her not to quit the show. "He told me that he was my biggest fan," she recalled. "And he asked me to please stay on the show — that I was a role model to Black children and women all across America ... He told me that I couldn't leave: that I was part of history." Nichols, who was the first Black woman to have a continuing co-starring role on American TV, would end up being one-half of the first kiss between a Black person and a white person on an American TV show.
  35. Timothée Chalamet and Ansel Elgort went to high school together and competed for the same parts in plays. They also had the same drama and science teachers and played on the same basketball team. (TBH, I cannot picture either of these men playing basketball.)
  36. Kerry Washington is from the same neighborhood in the Bronx as Jennifer Lopez and attended the same high school as Gwyneth Paltrow.
  37. Jay Z, Busta Rhymes, and Notorious BIG all went to high school together, and Jay and Rhymes once had a rap battle at lunch (oh, to be a fly on that wall). Rhymes said he would skip class with Biggie and smoke weed. Oh, and DMX also went to school there.
  38. Seth Rogan and Nathan Fielder went to the same high school and were even in an improv group together.
  39. And finally, Rachel Brosnahan's aunt was fashion designer Kate Spade.

2024.03.24 22:37 MattGreg28 Ego and Other Tails

I have finally decided to read Batman: Ego and Other Tails. I have been dying to read this book since I found out it was one of the stories used to inspire The Batman. With that in mind, I decided to immerse myself more into the story by listening to the soundtrack of the movie, including the trailer version of Something In The Way. Usually I like to come up with a voice cast in my head for the characters in a comic and this was what I had for this one: Robert Pattinson as Batman, Kevin Conroy as Ego, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Andy Serkis as Alfred, Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, Corey Burton as Hugo Strange, John DiMaggio as Joker (his laugh is the one my brain went to), and Quinton Flynn as Alberto Falcone.
It took listening to Something In The Way and the theme song for The Batman while reading the intro and Darwyn Cooke's reflection on Ego to really start immersing myself into this one and remind me how much I love Batman. This anthology comic was a great way to bring me back into the Batman comics after being away for so long. I figured I would talk about my thoughts on each of them.
Ego had some of the best artwork I had seen in a comic in recent memory, and that includes some of the DC Rebirth books I have been reading. This reminded me of either The Animated Series or Justice League: The New Frontier. I loved this psychoanalytical breakdown of Bruce's relationship with Batman and how one cannot exist without the other and Bruce's conviction to sticking to his morals no matter what. I always thought Bruce's inner voice was born the night of his parents' murder. I am impressed with how Darwyn Cooke incepted it into him before then.
Here Be Monsters had very impressive artwork and I like how Madame X was a short example of what being in Gotham City can do to someone, especially if they come into contact with Batman. However, despite all he has gone through, it is good to see Bruce not fall prey to the city's curse.
Catwoman: Selina's Big Score was an awesome solo Catwoman story. I loved how it explored her relationships and her early days as a thief. Plus, who doesn't love a good heist story? This makes me want to get more into her solo books. Also, the artwork is really good. I have seen images of Batman: Year One and they seem a bit similar. I could be wrong about that, but you get what I mean.
The Monument has probably the most exaggerated Batman artwork I have ever seen to date. I like how it explores how the citizens of Gotham view Batman, both good and bad to the point where someone sought to built a statue of him. I have seen movies, shows, and games where heroes get statues of them made and there have been times where I wonder how said hero would have felt about that, especially with all that came with it. I am glad this story explored how Bruce sees it as well.
Date Knight has some of my favorite artwork in this book, second only to Ego. I like that this is a quick glimpse into the dynamic between Bruce and Selina and yet it says a lot about them. Selina is almost always starting up the chaos in their relationship and Bruce is right behind her trying to bring back order. Yet, despite their differences, it's easy to see why they're perfect for each other.
Deja Vu is likely my second favorite story in this book as it shows us something I did not expect to see in this anthology: Bruce seeing a kid go through what he had in almost the very same way. Bruce not having any dialogue in this story was honestly a really good idea. You can just tell that seeing those parents die set something way off in him, especially in the way he hunted down the thugs who did it. Am I the only the who thinks that Stark and Jeff are the same ones from Selina's Big Score? Also, so cool to see that Bruce Timm was a part of this story, the artwork is nearly unmistakable.
Overall, this might be one of the best Batman stories I have read. I am now interested in looking for more Batman anthology books, especially Detective Comics 1000. I will take some time before getting to the next Batman book on my comic reading list.

Every Upcoming DC Film And Television Show, From Superman To Penguin in 2024
We've collected every project we're aware of in the following list. This includes every upcoming film, live-action show, and animated series. We broke the list up into a list of upcoming films, followed by television shows, and secure projects at the top.

Joker: Folie à Deux (Film)

Release date: October 4, 2024
Todd Phillips returns to direct the sequel to his critically acclaimed and massively successful 2019 film, Joker. Despite the seemingly conclusive nature of that movie's ending, things aren't always as they seem when it comes to the Clown Prince of Crime. Joaquin Phoenix returns as Arthur Fleck/The Joker. The title, Folie à Deux, refers to a delusion or mental illness shared between two people, and the second party in Joker's delusion will be Harley Quinn, played by pop star Lady Gaga. The film will reportedly have a musical element. Also returning is Zazie Beetz, who played Arthur's neighbor in the first film. Steve Coogan, Brendan Gleeson, and Catherine Keener also appear in the movie. As with the first Joker film, this film is not part of the core DC Universe chronology and is not narratively connected to any other movies or television shows in development.

Superman (Film)

Release date: July 11, 2025
Originally named Superman: Legacy, Superman is the crown jewel of Gunn and co-producer Peter Safran's upcoming DC universe. James Gunn is writing and will direct Superman, which begins filming in March 2024. We only know a little about the plot of the film, but we do have some crucial casting information. David Corenswet (Pearl) and Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) will play Clark Kent/Superman and Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road) will play the part of arch-nemesis Lex Luthor. Also reportedly appearing in the film is Nathan Fillion (Firefly) as the Guy Gardner incarnation of the Green Lantern, and Anthony Carrigan (Barry) as Metamorpho.

The Batman Part II (Film)

Release date: October 2, 2026
This sequel to 2022's The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson, is currently in the works and was recently delayed to late 2026 from its previous 2025 release date. Matt Reeves will once again direct, and Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne/Batman. We also expect Jeffrey Wright and Andy Serkis to return as James Gordon and Alfred Pennyworth. The first film featured a post-credits scene with Barry Keogan (Saltburn) as the Joker, so we're expecting him to show up in some respect as well. Up in the air are Zoe Kravitz' Selina Kyle/Catwoman and Paul Dano's the Riddler, as they figured prominently in the first film. Batman's rogues and allies tend to keep popping up in his life, though, so we wouldn't be surprised to see them return.

The Brave and the Bold (Film)

(Currently In Development)
Batman fans will be disappointed to hear that this film is likely a long way off. Gunn's focus is on Superman first, with Bats to follow later. At the time of this writing, Andy Muschietti (The Flash, IT) is attached to direct. This film will not only introduce the DCU's Batman, who is separate from the incarnation played by Robert Pattinson, but also will reportedly introduce us to Batman's son, Damian Wayne (no relation to Daymon Wayans), with the story being based on Grant Morrison's 2006-2013 run in the Batman comics. There is currently no release date, writer, or any actors attached to the film.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (Film)

(Currently In Development)
The first standalone Supergirl film since the 1984 flop will be Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. This film will use the comic book miniseries of the same name as a starting point. Supergirl is moving along, too; Ana Nogueira will write the film, with Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) starring as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. Filming for Supergirl will reportedly start later this year.

The Authority (Film)

(Currently In Development)
We know almost nothing about The Authority as a film adaptation. Gunn has previously described The Authority as a team of superheroes who think "the world is completely broken. And the only way to fix it is to take things into their own hands, whether that means killing people, destroying heads of state, changing governments, you know, whatever they want to do to make the world better." No actors, writers, directors, or release dates are available for this movie currently.

Swamp Thing (Film)

(Currently In Development)
People who like Swamp Thing tend to really like Swamp Thing. That's definitely the case for James Mangold, the writer behind movies like Logan and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. After Gunn revealed that Swamp Thing was on the docket for his new DC Universe, Mangold responded by posting a picture of DC's saddest plant on social media. Gunn has described Swamp Thing as a passion project for Mangold, who is currently writing the film. The movie will reportedly be a gothic horror film and take inspiration from Alan Moore's critically acclaimed Saga of the Swamp Thing run from 1984 and 1985. Aside from Mangold as the writer, though, no other information about the movie has been confirmed.

Constantine 2 (Film)

(Currently In Development)
Deadline reported in September 2022 that Warner Bros. is currently developing a sequel to the 2005 Constantine film. Keanu Reeves is set to return in the titular role, with Francis Lawrence returning to direct as well. Akiva Goldsman is writing the screenplay and producing. This film will be an Elseworlds picture, like The Batman and Joker, and unconnected to the rest of the DC Universe. There is no release date just yet, and the movie has yet to enter production.

Dead Boy Detectives (Television series)

Release date: April 2024
After a brief cameo in Doom Patrol, the Dead Boy detectives are now getting their own series. After being initially greenlit for Max, the series will now appear on Netflix--meaning it's not connected to anything else in the DC Universe at this time. Edwin Paine and Jayden Revri will star as the titular dead boys, George Rexstrew and Charles Rowland. This series is coming up, and is reportedly set to hit Netflix next month.

The Penguin (Television series)

Release date: Late 2024
Before we get to revisit Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves' Batman, we're going to dive into Gotham's criminal underworld. One of the standout characters in the 2022 movie was Colin Ferrell's Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin. Ferrell underwent a stunning transformation through makeup to become the character and brought him to life as a believable low-level criminal who sees a chance to rise in Gotham's criminal world. Cristin Milioti will star as Sofia Falcone, daughter of Carmine (The Batman's John Turturro), who will fight Cobblepot for control of Gotham's criminal element. Like The Batman and The Batman II, The Penguin is not considered to be part of the same timeline as many of the other projects on this list, and is considered an "Elseworlds" story.

Superman & Lois: Season 4 (Television series)

Release date: Late 2024
The final outing of the CW's decade-long journey into the world of DC superheroes comes to a formal end this fall. Superman & Lois is the last remaining show from the network's golden era of superhero shows. The core cast, including Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the titular characters, returns, though much of the show's other regular cast were downgraded to guest appearances for the upcoming fourth season. The CW confirmed that this season is to be the last.

Creature Commandos (Animated series)

Release date: Late 2024
If there's one thing James Gunn loves, it's a ragtag band of ne'er do wells. Before he took over the DC universe, he directed Guardians of the Galaxy in three films and a holiday special, as well as The Suicide Squad. Now he's bringing his eye for comic book outcasts to the world of animation with Creature Commandos. Imagine characters like the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein, the Bride of Frankenstein, and a humanoid weasel (named Weasel) coming together to form a military squad, and you get the idea. Creature Commandos stars Alan Tudyk as the permanently-radioactive Dr. Phosphorous, David Harbour as Eric Frankenstein (no relation to this gallery's author), and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag, Sr.
Returning from previous DC projects will be Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Steve Agee as John Economos, and Sean Gunn as Weasel (and also G.I. Robot, a military android built for the express purpose of killing Nazis). Gunn wrote the seven-episode series himself, and has said that much of the work on it is done already. Even so, Gunn has been cagey about the release date--when asked if it was coming out in "early 2024 or late 2024" on social media, he replied simply, "Later." Note Gunn's intentional vagueness--he could mean that the series has slipped into 2025, but it's impossible to say.

Harley Quinn and Kite Man: Hell Yeah! (Animated series)

Release date: Late 2024
Max's Harley Quinn series has been one of the breakout shows for the streaming service, succeeding with fans and critics alike. The series has a fifth season on the way, announced last November. A 2024 release is possible, but the service also has a Harley spin-off series, Kite Man: Hell Yeah!, in the works. Kite Man: Hell Yeah! Is currently set to release later this year, so we expect to see that one first.

Sandman Season 2 (Television series)

(Currently Filming)
Following the success of the batch of Sandman episodes, which writer Neil Gaiman doesn't seem to refer to as a season, Netflix quickly greenlit additional episodes, and they're currently in active production, with many actors returning for additional episodes--including Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death, most notably. Netflix hasn't set a release date for these episodes, but we can safely consider them "on the way."

Waller & Peacemaker Season 2 (Television series)

(Currently In Development)
While Peacemaker Season 2 was greenlit back in February 2022, before the announcement of the DC Universe, we're going to be waiting a bit. James Gunn plans to return to write and direct the sophomore outing of DC's chrome-domed antihero, and that means it'll be on hold until Superman lands. Alongside Peacemaker Season 2, though, Gunn is planning a spin-off series, titled Waller. It will, as the name suggests, focus on Amanda Waller. It was initially meant to act as a bridge between the two seasons of Peacemaker and release just ahead of Superman, but delays have pushed Waller back behind Peacemaker. Christal Henry and Jeremy Carver are reportedly set to write the series; Henry previously worked on the excellent 2019 HBO Watchmen series, while Carver produced the uniquely strange Doom Patrol TV series for the DC Universe (now defunct) and Max streaming services.

Lanterns (Television series)

(Currently In Development)
The Lanterns have been an oft-neglected part of the DC universe when it comes to live action. That's no thanks, of course, to the 2011 Green Lantern film, which flopped hard and landed face-first in a pile of no money. A Green Lanterns series centered on Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott was planned for a while, but while Gunn has denied that the series has been scrapped, we also haven't heard anything about it for a couple of years. Meanwhile, Gunn and Safran announced the Lanterns series, which will follow Hal Jordan and John Stewart--two fan-favorite Lanterns in a long-running lineup of ringbearers--in a detective story that leads into the DCU's main storyline. So it's anyone's guess what's actually going on with the Lanterns right now.

Booster Gold (Television series)

(Currently In Development)
We know almost nothing about this show, other than that Gunn is planning for it to be an "outright comedy." Booster Gold, real name Mike Carter, is a disgraced former football player from the 25th century who travels back in time to our modern day, using everyday technology from his time to play the part of a superhero in ours.

Paradise Lost (Television series)

(Currently In Development)
While a third Wonder Woman movie from Patty Jenkins is no longer in the cards, that doesn't mean that the DCU is forgetting about the amazons of Themyscira. Paradise Lost is set before the birth of Wonder Woman/Diana Prince, and is a political series set on the all-female island from which she hails. Gunn compared it to Game of Thrones in terms of its political focus. The title is also notably similar to the "Paradise Island Lost" comic book story arc, which followed a civil war on Themyscira.

Untitled Arkham show (Television series)

(Currently In Development)
The currently untitled Arkham TV show has been through a bunch of changes--despite not having anyone formally attached to it. It began life as a show following Gotham PD in Matt Reeves' version of Gotham. It then shifted to focusing on the Arkham Hospital and many of its characters. Antonio Campos is reportedly set to serve as head writer and showrunner, and the show is now set in Gunn's DC Universe.

2024.03.13 23:20 188FAZBEAR Having undescribable feelings for someone that looks like identical to the girl that I had a massive crush that rejected me over the summer.

In the summer of 2023 I was at the summer camp at UCF or University of Central Florida. While it was a very fun time I had, which was a simulation of what college life was like. One night it was the second night that I had stayed there. I’ve just made these two friends, one who is the same age as I am 17 and the other was the age of 15. For obvious reasons, I will not disclose their names or anyone else’s name for the sake of privacy reasons. And on the second day I was here I just got there the night before so it was on the day that I spent my first night there and I was exhausted due to the fact that, and I’m sure some of you who go to UCF could relate to the fact that the mattresses in the dorm rooms take a few weeks to be able to sleep in comfortably, but I digress. We were in the dining hall at I’d say maybe around six and I’m talking with my friends and Let’s just say it was on that night I met this girl who would be the first girl to successfully get her number. Now just for a little added context before I met her my dating life well, I wouldn’t say dating life, but like you know, like I never have really had been successful with talking to women and I would always get rejected time and time again hell, even if I asked a girl for their number they would laugh at me like J Jonah, Jamison in Spider-Man 2. However, when I met this girl on like any other girl before because I was pretty nervous. I will admit I did a somewhat mediocre job at keeping my cool. I was confident enough to introduce myself without hesitation, heck, having the courage to walk up to her table, was probably one of the most terrifying experiences of my life, and I almost would not have been able to talk to her if it wasn’t for the three second rule method I applied at last minute! However, not only did this girl introduce herself as well what unlike any other girl before she actually made an attempt to talk to me and get to know me no other girl had even thought to do so we talked for about probably 20 minutes or so, but eventually she was like well. It was great meeting you, but I have to get going so before I even thought about I immediately said wait can I get your number? I know it probably wasn’t the smoothest way of doing it, but it worked and I got her number which just blew my mind and I sat in disbelief for probably a good long while we also not only had a few things in common. She also loved playing video games, which I mean come on how often well I’m sure for y’all who go to public school it may not be down to come in but since I kind of am stuck to going to special-needs school because I have a learning disability, I know shocking, autism and dyslexia is no joke lol. But up until that point she was probably the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen and looks like that girl that you think you would only see in your dreams, but she also just had this great personality as well. So we texted back and forwards for about two weeks. There were a few red flags, which is for another story for another time. However, after two weeks, I thought to myself because just to add more context, I was going there for a summer camp. She however, was there for a day for her freshman college orientation so that meant I wanted to at least be able to have three dates before she went off to college which, even I admit, was quite ambitious for the amount of time given. However, I thought you know we would be able to possibly if she was interested in doing it either doing a long-term relationship and then like we can light go out more on like holiday, brakes and summers. Again I know unrealistic but besides the point, I’m trying to get to. so after I left summer camp which for privacy reasons I will not say the name of it wasn’t really like a summer camp is more like a college simulation camp again besides the point I decided it was time to finally ask her out. So, while I was at a Hilton hotel, because I was staying in Disney World after camp for the weekend with my family, I gathered the courage and asked her if she was interested in going to the arcade with me you know so we can get to know each other better, and that girl did not respond to me for like a month so like the end of July, and the entire month of August were probably two of the most painful months of the year😭😭. I was talk to you one day I believe it was August 15th I was chatting with my roommate about how she hasn’t texted me in about a month and how I was slowly going insane and already entering my Juice WRLD era my first major Juice WRLD era. And he was like he was being a little like almost like he knew something that he didn’t want me to know and responded like, oh don’t worry I have a feeling she’ll respond soon. It wasn’t until ironically August 17 that she would finally respond which was ironically, while I was on my way to my school for orientation at my new private school. However, she responded with something along. The lines of have been really busy recently you know I’m lesbian, right I’m sorry I didn’t make that clear and we first met. And at that point, I was emotionally beat to the ground that when I read read it get it Reddit? At that point I was in such a state of shock. It was like all my emotions like every single emotion you can ever think about that emotional dial like it exploded, and I was in such a state of shock because I usually have pretty good gaydar, and I didn’t sense any gaydar from her, but at that time I was kind of exhausted with sadness and just happy that she responded and when she told me that I was kind of proud of her, I was like oh my god you’re such an amazing friend and full of surprises. Tell me about your first day of college when it happens, spoiler alert, she never talk to me ever again. And it wasn’t until the day after that the negative emotions set in at the same time I was happy for her, but at the same time I was also upset that she didn’t match the same orientation as mine. However, that turned out to all be a lie. When those two friends I was hanging out at camp they told you guys about earlier. They apparently found this post on my roommates Instagram titled ( I told my autistic friends crush to say she was lesbian so he would give up on her). No joke that’s literally what it said they even sent me the link and I was furious and betrayed. It was like two people that I gave my trust to completely violated it and sent me to emotional hell for 6 months. And for the rest of that week hell for the rest of the month, I didn’t feel a single positive emotion, besides sadness and anger like I was like Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne. And eventually though by December, you know over the course of six months, it slowly got better, especially since I went to therapy after that which, by the way, my therapist is a complete miracle worker, and if it wasn’t for him, it would’ve taken me longer to get over that. However, fast forward to march 9th it’s a Friday night and I’m going to a childhood friend of mine’s school play and you know I’m excited the play is apparently a Broadway show that apparently also gonna turn into a movie called Chicago. The show was great however, all the sudden as I look in the audience, feeling good about myself and feeling positive I see this girl with three other friends and by God this girl looked almost just like the girl I met back in the summer. And just to make sure that my mind wasn’t playing mean tricks on me just to screw with my emotions I pinched myself hell a b***h slap myself just to make sure that I wasn’t seeing things. so I thought to myself I have to talk to this person she had like this positive aura about her however, the difference was, I don’t really approach women when I’m with my parents I usually do that when I’m not with my parents. But I even told my father at the end of the show if he can pretend that he didn’t know me and I even told my father about the girl I was wanting to talk to you. He was completely supportive about it, but he told me you know, since we were kind of leaving because we were going to take my childhood friend out to dinner For context were both 17. So, my father said maybe you can secretly take a photo of her and ask if she knew her. Now here’s the thing I’m not a creeper but you know since I couldn’t really get my ass to talking to her I thought oh you know what maybe I’ll do that however, the photo I got of her was not that good and it was from like facing behind her Know I was not taking a photo of what you think I was taking and get your mind out of the gutter. Plus there are tons of people surrounding her so when I went to text my friend and asked if she knew her, I even made a description of her. and my friend said that she didn’t know who she was so I said all right that’s fine. Just keep a lookout and she was like ok I will. Ever since that night, I haven’t been or haven’t stopped living in regret for not talking to her, but haven’t given up hope and my friend finding her however, it did reopen some old wounds. So I’m just wondering has anyone here ever felt this feeling that you never had about a crush before that just made you feel like Mario when he gets the invincible star or sonic when he gets all seven chaos emeralds hell gets all super emeralds and becomes hyper sonic and made you feel like you are just unstoppable? I apologize if this is a verbal spew, it’s something that I’ve kind of just wanted to get off of my chest and if you have any questions, feel free to private chat me or ask for more details about the story you can also ask me on the sub Reddit, which ever you prefer. Thanks for your feedback if you see this post your feedback means a lot to me and I hope y’all have an amazing day.

2024.01.20 11:13 One-Owl-4202 I’m kinda jealous of the vast amount of prospects women have. To what degree am I wrong for believing this?

Honestly, it might just be the constant rejections, ghosting, and failed dates that I’ve been on that have caused me to have this jaded view, but I feel like there’s a huge power imbalance in dating.
Like I need to work incredibly hard and lower my standards (even though I meet every criteria myself) just so I can find one person every 4-5 months who is willing to give me a shot for a first date, or a second, which inevitably falls apart? Like there’s such negligible return for the amount of effort I’m putting in, it’s kinda insane.
Meanwhile, I believe that if a woman (of average/above average conventional attractiveness, like me), wants to date, she can find a date fairly quick. If she wants to fuck, she can get the hottest guy she wants almost instantaneously, even if she has a really shitty personality. Having sex that soon is certainly impossible unless I legit look like Robert Pattinson or somn (I’m trying to get there but it’ll take some time). And obviously my charisma gotta be on point, my social skills gotta be next level, etc.
Just feels like it must be nice having that power to just move on when you get rejected cause experience has not led you to believe that there’s no one out there for you that meets your standards and you’ll either have to go below your league or work incredibly hard to increase yours .
Am I incredibly misogynistic to have these thoughts? I am no way hateful towards women. I’m more envious of them when it comes to this particular situation is all.

2024.01.02 01:21 Ninjaboi333 Accountability Post: Checking In On My 2023 Box Office Predictions + 2024 Predictions

This time last year I did two posts - one trying to predict how many Billion dollar films there will be, and one trying to predict how many 100M openers and grossers there would be. To keep myself accountable, I'm reviewing how well I did, and try to make predictions for this year
Billion Dollar Films - Overall I had predicted either 2 or 3 billion dollar films, not quite to pre-pandemic numbers or 4-5 from 2015-208 and certainly not 2019's 9 billion dollar films, but more in line with 2021's 1 and 2022's 3 films.
Overall I ended up being correct with 2 films making it, though kind of by accident. I first tried to predict the 100M opening films (and only got 3 of my non-moved 6 correct), with the rationale that 100M OW is a requirement for 1B WW. Of these 3, I did predict that SMB would be one of the 1B films most likely to happen.
The other 1B+ film, Barbie, I only had as a 100M grosser, and like everyone else was surprised when it ended up being the highest grossing film of the year. Likewise, didn't predict Oppenheimer would get to over 900M.
My biggest L was putting out that maybe Transformers or Indy would be the other billion dollar film, going off the logic that Top Gun Maverick heralded a return of nostalgia. Neither made even 500M globally. At least with my hope that maybe GotG3 or Fast X could get to 1B, those were at least 700M.
Given that I actually did get the correct number and one of them called correctly, I'll give myself an A-
100M Openers - Again, the 7 I initially had to be 100M openers were SMB, the 3 MCU films, Nostalgia films Transformers and Indiana Jones, and Dune 2. That last one moved, and while Quantumania did eke out a 106M opening, I whiffed big on the nostalgia films and didn't expect the MCU to collapse so fast, so suddenly, ending up with only 3 of my original 7.
Films I didn't predict that did open to 100M were
  • Across the Spiderverse (which in hindsight given the non-winter date and appeal of the first one should have been enough for me to overlook the 35M opening of the first one)
  • Barbie - already mentioned above
Given that one of my original seven moved, and there were 5 instead of 6, I'll give myself a B+ here - a bit too optimistic on Indy and Transformers given they've been damaged brands, vs Top Gun which hadn't had the chance to fail. Compared to 2022 this is a step down when there were 8 films that opened to 100M, but this ties 2018 which only had 5.
100M Grossers - Overall I predicted 27 100M grossers, including the 7 I predicted would open to 100M. Of these, 2 films moved to 2024 (Dune 2 and Ghostbusters Frozen Empire), so we're working with a functional prediction of 25 films.
Films I called correctly
  1. Ant Man Quantumania (214M)
  2. SMB (574M)
  3. GotG3 (358M)
  4. Transformers Rise of the Beasts (157M)
  5. Indiana Jones 5 (174M)
  6. Creed 3 (156M)
  7. John Wick 4 (187M)
  8. Fast X (145M)
  9. Little Mermaid (298M)
  10. Across the Spiderverse (381M)
  11. Flash (108M) - barely
  12. Elemental (154M)
  13. MI7 (172M)
  14. Oppenheimer (324M)
  15. Barbie (636M)
  16. Hunger Games (160M)
  17. Wonka (140M)
  18. Trolls 3 (only at 98.1M but still making a couple million a weekend so I think I'll go ahead and count this)
Films that are fell short
  1. M3GAN - super close but only made 95M
  2. Shazam 2 - Okay yeah I thought the goodwill of the first would carry over but only 56M
  3. D&D Honor Among THieves - just a bit short at 93M - such a shame
  4. Wish - I didn't expect the total collapse of Disney's Animated films after Strange World especially for their 100th anniversary - 61M. Though I will say I did question whether or not Disney had trained their audiences to just wait for D+ which seems to be the case.
  5. The Marvels - 84M - nuff has been said about the MCU
Films I didn't predict that ended up getting there
  1. Sound of Freedom - 184M (wasn't even announced to my knowledge when I made the prediction)
  2. Taylor Swift Eras Tour - 165M (wasn't a thing at the start of the year)
  3. FNAF - 113M (in hindsight if I was predicting M3GAN I should have predicted this.)
Films still waiting for numbers to finalize
  1. Migration
  2. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
I also had a couple films that I said had a shot at making 100M but wasn't sure
  1. Scream VI - 108M. Unfortunately given the casting news lately I don't thin the next one will repeat
  2. TMNT: Mutant Mayhem - a welcome surprise at 118M as a fan of animation.
Overall I ended up having 23 films total hit 100M domestically, with about 2 more that might get there. So I'll be right about where I had predicted, with 2 that were honestly less than 7 million from being spot on. So I'll give myself an A overall on these predictions excluding moved films. Compared to 2022 which only had 17 films hit 100M domestic this is a welcome increase, and we're only about 3-5 or so from hitting about 30ish films to hit 100M similar to pre-pandemic levels.
Predictions for next Year
  • Billion Dollar Films - Without the reliability of comic book films or China as a market to carry overseas, the only film I have as a lock to get 1B is Despicable Me 4. Maybe Joker 2 can lean on Gaga stans, maybe Kung Fu Panda 4 or Inside Out 2 can have strong animation legs, but otherwise I'm predicting between 1-2 total.
  • 100M Openers - Right now I have 6 films set to make 100M their opening weekend domestically - all sequels sans one. Dune 2 / Inside Out 2 / Despicable Me 4 / Deadpool 3 / Joker 2. The only non-sequel I have even has a number in the name - Red One, a Dwayne Johnson / Chris Evans led film directed by the guy behind Jumanji, "reimagining holiday mythology." This one is kind of my wildcard pick mostly going off of the cast + director combo having surprising results from before.
  • 100M Grossers - Full list below but I have 19 I say will likely gross 100M over their run in addition to the 6 I think will open for 25 total, same as this year. I do also have 9 films I'll call "Maybes" that I'm not comfortable enough yet to say will get there but if enough goes right for them could break out. Notably I will call out that I have neither Madame Web or Kraven the Hunter from Sony's Marvel Universe making 100M domestic.
  1. Mean Girls (Jan) - idk is Mean Girls in with Gen Z? They had the whole original movie on TikTok at one point so I assume so?
  2. Kung Fu Panda 4 (Mar) - No KFP film has opened to more than 60, none has made less than 140
  3. Ghostbusters Frozen Empire (Mar) - carry over from last year
  4. Godzilla v Kong 2 (Apr) - Given that the lask GvK movie in early 2021 just as vaccines were coming out made 100M DOM, I think this one will do better
  5. The Fall Guy (May)
  6. IF (May) - seems family friendly enough to bring your kids to
  7. Furiosa (May) - Fury Road made 153M
  8. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (Jun) - No film since 2011 has opened to less than 54M, none has made less than 146M
  9. Ballerina (Jun) - TBD if John Wick is broad enough to support a spinoff but it's had a lot of goodwill so far
  10. Bad Boys sequel (Jun) - last two films made over 138M each
  11. A Quiet Place Day One (Jun) - same as John Wick, the last two films made at least 160M each. It's also the kind of film to reward communal theater experiences
  12. Borderlands (Aug) - After SMB and FNAF showed that the video game curse is broken and without CMBs, I'm bullish on video game adaptations for now
  13. Beetlejuice 2 (Sep) - TBD if it will be more Top Gun nostalgia vs Indy nostalgia, but I think the benefit this one has is that it hasn't been ruined by subpar sequels since the first one
  14. Transformers One (Sep) - after the success of TMNT I'll bet on another animated nostalgia play
  15. Smile 2 (Oct) - the last one made 100M domestic so we'll see if lightning strikes twice
  16. Venom 3 (Nov) - while neither Madame Web or Kraven are on this list, Venom 2 still made 213M DOM
  17. Wicked (Nov) - A swing here but with Ariana Grande fans coming to see it I could see it being a thing
  18. Mufasa (Dec) - I mean this goes back and forth with the relatively tepid response to live action remakes, but if Little Mermaid almost made 100M with the casting controversy, then with family holiday legs this could make it.
  19. Sonic 3 (Dec) - Both films have made at least 146M Dom so far, increasing from 1 to 2, so who knows this could even maybe open to 100M (though it would be quite the jump from 72M to 100M
Maybes
  1. Argylle (honestly not much Jan/Feb quality wise)
  2. Mickey 17 (unlikely but Bong Joon Ho's first film post Parasite + Robert Pattinson post Batman)
  3. Civil War - Would be A24's biggest film ever
  4. Garfield Movie - would be more sure if Inside out 2 wasn't a few weeks later to cutt off legs
  5. Twisters - I'm more confident in Beetlejuice 2 than this sequel given it's a different lead
  6. Alien: Romulus - Could be a surprise success a la Prey was. Also Cailee Spaeny is everywhere now
  7. Gladiator 2 - Ridley Scott is a cointoss at this point. Brand name and great cast help but we'll see.
  8. LOTR Rohirrim - This will be popular but I think Sonic 3 will take more of the family friendly audience over the holidays
  9. Karate Kid - With Cobra Kai being popular + Jackie CHan - maybe? I don't know if it even keeps this date tbh.

I will continue to update this post as reviews come in.
Rotten Tomatoes: Certified Fresh

Sample Reviews:
True to form, “The Boy and the Heron” proves unpredictable, but it’s also within the realm of Miyazaki’s earlier work, which is both comforting and slightly disappointing. - Peter Debruge, Variety
If some of the film’s more fantastical narrative tangents can at times become perplexing, the images wash over you, a constant reminder of the descriptive power of Miyazaki’s visual language. - David Rooney, Hollywood Reporter
Yet, for all its strengths on a conceptual and technical level, the story lacks a strong focus. Still a decent send off to a fantastic career. - Valerie Complex, Deadline Hollywood Daily
If this is indeed his final film — this time for real — what a way for Miyazaki to launch into retirement, with a swan song so personal, artful and ultimately timeless. - Tomris Laffly, TheWrap
You’ll leave The Boy and the Heron in disbelief that this, supposedly, is a filmmaker in autumn. It’s just as uncompromising a vision, and just as attuned to the experience of childhood. 3.5/4 - Jake Coyle, Associated Press
As the film progresses to its triumphal conclusion, the medium twists in new and exciting ways. If Miyazaki, at 82, is an old master, he is far from out of new tricks. 3.5/4 - Lucas Trevor, Washington Post
The trippy story is dizzying by the end as too many characters are introduced too late and we navigate a thicket of hastily explained narrative elements. But it nonetheless leaves a powerful emotional effect if you let it wash over you. 3.5/4 - Johnny Oleksinski, New York Post
It has a direct conduit with the mind of its creator, who happens to be a genius and one of the best to ever do it. If this is it for Miyazaki, well, what a finish. 4/4 - G. Allen Johnson, San Francisco Chronicle
Hayao Miyazaki’s latest isn’t perfect, but it’s full of the magic that viewers have come to expect. - Andrea Thompson, Chicago Reader
The rich, vibrant colors and intricate details in the background enhance the story. 4.5/5 - Meredith G. White, Arizona Republic
Filled with elegantly rendered imagery that few other animated features could approach, it’s another lovely, lively fable that weaves a magical spell and is filled with ache and layered meaning. 3.5/4 - Randy Myers, San Jose Mercury News
If this is indeed a farewell address from the Ghibli co-founder, it’s a grand statement. 4/4 - Peter Howell, Toronto Star
This is an achingly sincere act of storytelling from an artist who seems concerned about what the world that he helped build will look like when he is gone. - Barry Hertz, Globe and Mail
Miyazaki has few surprises left, but in The Boy and the Heron, it’s the familiar that feels like a comforting hug. 3/5 - Radheyan Simonpillai, Guardian
There are flashes of Hitchcock, 2001: A Space Odyssey and even Back to the Future, and while the director’s films can be earnest, it’s often very funny. 4/5 - Ed Potton, Times (UK)
In The Boy and the Heron, the feelings of grief and determination get under your skin without relying on the mission-oriented plotting of many on-message Disney features. 5/5 - Nicolas Rapold, Financial Times
In its giddy resistance to being pinned down, it reminds you of Miyazaki himself: the stern traditionalist still delightedly pushing back the bounds of his craft. 5/5 - Robbie Collin, Daily Telegraph (UK)
The Boy and the Heron is yet another testament to Miyazaki’s evergreen ability to embrace philosophical themes with boundless imagination. Jaw-dropping visuals, tender moments, and a pinch of comedy make it the perfect Christmas treat for Ghibli fans. 4/5 - India Lawrence, Time Out
[Hayao Miyazaki] really marshals everything he's noted for... In a way, there's too many good ideas in this film. - Peter Rainer, FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles)
...This may be Miyazaki's most expansive and magisterial film. If it is not the most instantly stunning, that might be because he takes the time to deliver worlds within worlds, layers under layers, to create an overwhelming experience by the end. 5/5 - Caryn James, BBC.com
No one needed further proof that he’s a master. This meditation on grief and growing up does solidify the position, however, that Miyazaki remains the greatest living animator today, period. - David Fear, Rolling Stone
There is much to savor in The Boy and the Heron, its visual splendor and its winsome insistence on life’s indelible meaning, stitched and seamed by daily choice and boggling chance. - Richard Lawson, Vanity Fair
As long as Miyazaki feels he has more to say, we’re lucky enough to be here to receive it, and this latest work comes off as acutely, if indirectly, personal. - Alison Willmore, New York Magazine/Vulture
The Boy and the Heron may or may not be Miyazaki’s final movie, but either way, it’s a staggering addition to one of animation’s most totemic filmographies. - David Sims, The Atlantic
Drawing from elements of his own childhood, Miyazaki has dreamed up a fantastical environment in which anything seems possible — including the potential to remake oneself. - Tim Grierson, Screen International
The Boy and the Heron is richly self-synthesising and achingly sentimental, collating artistic motifs from across the Miyazaki filmography and nakedly articulating the hopes it places in the next generation. - Mark Asch, Little White Lies
Miyazaki's latest film stands as a testament to his enduring legacy. It’s a mature, complex masterpiece, weaving together the director's past, present, and future -- a beautiful enigma that promises to be worth the wait. - Emma Steen, Time Out
Once more, Miyazaki is questioning the purpose of artistic creation in a world so prone to ruin, but this time he’s asking it of us. A - David Ehrlich, indieWire
It left me intellectually and aesthetically dazzled, and profoundly grateful for this late-life glimpse into the autobiography of one of film’s great living artists. - Dana Stevens, Slate
The Boy and the Heron revisits many of Miyazaki’s themes — loneliness, fear, sorrow — with his signature imagination and underlying reflection of Japanese history. - Alissa Wilkinson, Vox
The true tragedy of The Boy and the Heron seems not to be that the blemishes of its fantasy mirror those of its reality, but that any one person should think themselves capable of sanitizing either. 3.5/4 - Cole Kronman, Slant Magazine
How fortunate it is to be around now that animation’s greatest alchemist has gifted us his most personal spell yet. A+ - Carlos Aguilar, The Playlist
The Boy and the Heron is a chaotic, cosmic concoction that dares the audience to try to understand the mysterious inner workings of the anime auteur’s mind. - Hoai-Tran Bui, Inverse
With his latest, The Boy and The Heron, Miyazaki once more collides the known and the impossible to spin a yarn of fantasy and tragedy that leaves audiences dropped-jawed in awe, a bit heartbroken, yet bolstered by beauty and radiant empathy. - Kristy Puchko, Mashable
The legendary filmmaker has returned, thankfully, to deliver one of his best, most imaginative and mature movies yet. 4/4 - Laura Babiak, Observer
It’s proof that, no matter how hard Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, and others try, there’s only one animator who finds magic in every release. 3.5/4 - James Berardinelli, ReelViews
"The Boy and the Heron" is another wonderful piece of work from Miyazaki. It’s a gift. - Brian Tallerico, RogerEbert.com
The Boy and the Heron, a farewell feature... unmistakable in its satisfying yet heart-pulverizing finality, represents the master’s effort to make his peace with the impossibility of peace in his lifetime. - Charles Bramesco, Inside Hook
Something about the ephemerality of each film maybe being the last feels especially fitting for Miyazaki. - Drew Gregory, Autostraddle
“The Boy and the Heron” is beautiful and strange, the way all movies should be and precious few are. 4/4 - Ty Burr, Ty Burr's Watch List

2023.10.09 23:37 FourDrunkMoms Two seperate but related questions

No saying anyone related to Taylor directly like any exes please because that's an easy answer on this sub
1) What's one celebrity relationship other than Taylor who you believe wholeheartedly was in a PR relationship or maybe multiple? Bearding or not
My anwser to this one is Ryan Seacrest because he's had queer rumours around him for so long that I wouldn't be surprised if they were true
2) what is one relationship that everybody thinks is PR but you actually think is or was real
This answer alone might get me downvotes but I actually kind of believe that Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson were real. I know I know they started dating near the start of twilight and broke up right around the time the last Twilight movie came out. However I just can't think of a reason why the decision to break them up would be to have Kristen's cheat on him and be caught. Rob had an absolutely rabid fanbase of young women who wanted to jump his bones and I just don't see either of thier teams wanting to mess with that base by having Kristen cheat. The blowback she got was so intense I distinctly remember people going as Kristen for Halloween that year or the next year and just wearing a white shirt that said "I cheated on Rob" on it. She also lost a role in the sequel to snow white and the Huntsman over it because that was the director she cheated with. She was so clearly the bad guy in the situation and I don't know why she would agree with that.

2023.09.10 18:31 chronic-venting Sebastian Bear-McClard, Emily Ratajkowski's Estranged Husband and "Uncut Gems" Producer, Accused of Sexual Misconduct by Multiple Women

By Tatiana Siegel Mar 29, 2023
In early 2016, producer Sebastian Bear-McClard reached out to a 17-year-old girl on Instagram—an overture that led to an informal meeting at a Soho loft. Not long after, he let the Safdie brothers know that he had found the perfect person to play a small role in their upcoming film, Good Time. The girl, who came from an impoverished background in New York, was excited to meet the film's star, Robert Pattinson, a then-favorite of teen girls worldwide thanks to the Twilight franchise. On the day of filming, she waited all day on the New York set for her scene to be called, unaware of what it entailed. By the time she made her way to a cramped room, she was naked, standing in front of nearly a dozen male cast and crew members including Josh and Benny Safdie. Instead of performing in a scene with Pattinson, she was paired with an actor who had recently been released from prison before being hired for the film.
According to a statement made by the young woman and obtained by Variety, she "was utterly stunned and felt terrified. My distress only worsened when out of nowhere, [an actor] whispered in my ear if 'he could stick it in' while the cameras rolled. I said 'no.'" The statement from the woman, now 24, was made in connection with a legal dispute involving Bear-McClard. The producer is currently involved in a contentious divorce and custody battle with actor and model Emily Ratajkowski as well as private mediation with the Safdie brothers, who fired him from their shared production company, Elara Pictures, last summer. The statement was one of three made by women in the aftermath of Bear-McClard and Ratajkowski's well-publicized split last summer and depict the producer as a predator who often preyed on young women on set. (The Gone Girl actor filed for divorce from Bear-McClard in Manhattan Supreme Court, citing an irretrievable breakdown of the marriage.)
Variety also spoke to more than a dozen sources familiar with Bear-McClard's behavior, including two who were in the room when the 17-year-old girl shot the disturbing Good Time scene. […]
Bear-McClard, through a spokesperson, declined to comment. A spokeswoman for the Safdies says: "The Elara team were made aware of Sebastian McClard's behavior in July 2022. They took immediate action and terminated him."
The statements—which were made in August—also cover Bear-McClard's behavior on the set of the Adam Sandler drama Uncut Gems. A woman, who was 18 at the time, says she met a then-married Bear-McClard during production and that he began "grooming" her on Instagram citing his position in the film industry to make her major career promises. In her statement, also obtained by Variety, she described an incident that took place at the apartment Bear-McClard shared with Ratajkowski. "Sebastian and I started kissing. Things escalated and then, without asking for my consent, Sebastian inserted himself inside me without using a condom."
The woman described other disturbing behavior including that Bear-McClard called her derogatory words like "retarded" and a "kike," though he pushed back and framed that language as a joke. According to her statement, she says that he also began tracking her through an app on her phone. The woman also claims that Bear-McClard began sending messages on Instagram to a 15-year-old girl who was not part of the production but had visited the set. When confronted, "Sebastian appeared pleased with himself and laughed at my comment. He did not deny my accusations," the woman said in the statement. Multiple sources tell Variety that Bear-McClard's contact with the 15-year-old as well as his romantic involvement with yet another young woman on the Uncut Gems set—an assistant who has film industry ties—led to the Safdies firing him. (The Safdies also directed Uncut Gems.)
A third woman, who has worked on several independent films at the intern and assistant level, provided a statement obtained by Variety that does not cover workplace sexual misconduct but asserts that Bear-McClard engaged in troubling behavior.
Ratajkowski, 31, declined comment, but friends say she is not surprised by the allegations. She is being represented by powerhouse attorneys Brett Ward and Jackie Combs, whose firm Blank Rome previously handled Tom Cruise in his divorce from Katie Holmes as well as Channing Tatum in his split from Jenna Dewan. Bear-McClard, now 42, is working with high-profile attorney Caroline Krauss, who repped Robert De Niro in his 2018 break-up with Grace Hightower. Ratajkowski and Bear-McClard were married in a New York courthouse in February 2018 after dating for just two weeks. Ratajkowski is fighting for sole custody of their son Sylvester, who was born in March 2021.
Both Good Time and Uncut Gems were released by A24, the New York indie upstart behind Oscar best picture winners Everything Everywhere All at Once and Moonlight. The allegations raise serious questions about why a 17-year-old girl who had no agent at the time was filming nude scenes on the set of a movie. There's no ironclad rule barring underage nudity, but there is a general Screen Actors Guild requirement that employment conditions not be "detrimental to the health, morals and safety of the minor."
"It sounds like they circumvented the entire safety structure of our industry by hiring somebody on Instagram who was not a union member, who doesn't know her rights," says Anne Henry, co-founder of BizParentz, an advocacy group for [underage] actors. "Normally, minors have to have their contracts court affirmed, and there's lots of other hoops in order to cast a minor. This is so not normal. Everything is wrong about this situation."
Bear-McClard has produced the three most recent films of the Safdie brothers—a filmmaking duo celebrated for their edgy verité style and use of non-actors mixed in with professionals. The trio launched the production company Elara together in 2014. One of their most notable projects, the crime thriller Good Time made a splashy debut at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d'Or.
Pattinson was not on set the day of the problematic Good Time scene, which does not appear in the final version of the movie. The performer's name appears in the credits. According to her statement, Bear-McClard did not discuss any pay associated with the role and merely bought her cigarettes after the shoot. The woman does not receive residuals from A24 for her role. A knowledgeable source tells Variety that the scene was used in promo footage that was presented to buyers at the Cannes market in 2016. A24 bought the film off of that footage. A source close to the Safdies, who is familiar with their editing process, says that scene never made the final cut for creative reasons.
The women's claims involving the sets of Good Time and Uncut Gems shine an uncomfortable spotlight on A24, still celebrating its huge Oscars showing this month. The company signed the Safdies and Bear-McClard's Elara to a first-look deal in 2020, well after the Uncut Gems allegations had become a hot topic among insiders involved with the film.
A24 declined to comment.

2023.09.03 09:05 Quiet-Vanilla-7117 Meghan Markle's ex husband's friends know not to mention her name around him.

"The sweet revenge of Meghan Markle's first husband: Trevor Engelson is now a father, a Hollywood hotshot and married to a multi-millionaire heiress worth $250 million… though friends still avoid mentioning the 'M' word"
"A friend of Engelson who saw him recently told the MoS: 'For a long time, things were difficult for Trevor. He's a good guy but Meghan crushed him when she demanded a divorce. When she took up with Prince Harry, he was crushed all over again because he was constantly reminded of her because of the publicity around the marriage and then the drama of the Oprah interview. "
"Everyone in Trevor's life knows not to mention the 'M' word. He's moved on and, in some ways, you could say he's having an even better life than Meghan. He probably has more money than she does now, he's doing what he loves and he's out of the spotlight. It's the ultimate revenge."
"Professionally, too, he has enjoyed success. His management and production company Underground, which is based in Beverly Hills, created the hit TV crime drama Snowfall, which ran for six seasons and starred British actor Damson Idris. A spin-off show is in the works."
"Trevor's life now is a long way from the one he shared with Meghan. The pair met in a Hollywood bar in 2004, quickly fell in love and moved in together. They dated for seven years before marrying on a Jamaican beach in 2011, an event where guests were handed hemp gift bags containing samples of the local potent strain of marijuana.
For most of the marriage, Engelson was the main breadwinner. Meghan struggled to make it as an actress, at one point becoming a 'suitcase girl' on the TV show Deal Or No Deal, something she later said she felt 'objectified' her.
Yet Engelson constantly supported his wife, finding her roles in a low-budget movie called The Candidate and then a part in a film called Remember Me with a very young pre-Twilight star Robert Pattinson. 'Trevor supported Meghan like a rock,' a source told the MoS. 'He was the one who paid the bulk of the rent, he constantly built her up.
When she told Trevor she wanted a divorce after a couple of years he was devastated. He phoned Meghan's dad in pieces, not knowing where it had gone wrong. He was genuinely blindsided.
According to the hagiographical book about Meghan and Harry, Finding Freedom, Meghan was hurt when Engelson was invited to the Oscars and went alone, because he had only one ticket.
The source said: 'That comment showed a fundamental lack of knowledge about Hollywood. The Academy Awards are the hardest tickets in town. Unless you are nominated, or a big name, it's common for single tickets to be given out. It's great Trevor got a ticket.
'Why Meghan would think she would be entitled to accompany him is strange. Even big stars can't take everyone they want to take.'
According to multiple reports, Meghan posted her wedding and engagement rings back to Engelson in LA.
'Trevor was heartbroken,' says his friend. 'He was ringing up their mutual friends saying he didn't know what had gone wrong?'
As the MoS revealed earlier this summer, some have coined the phrase 'You've been Markled' to describe how quickly, and some might say coldly, Meghan is able to discard once-close friends.
At his wedding to his wife, Tracey, a wedding guest said: 'It was a joyous occasion. Trevor looked so happy. So relieved. He's a man who went through the mill. He loved Meghan but he was very hurt by her. All of us who love him are happy he's in such a good place.'

2023.08.15 06:42 YuleBunny He doesn’t abuse white women

The other night I was on Tik Tok looking at interviews and posts of FKA Twigs, more specifically, of her breakup with Robert Pattinson. In one of the posts it has an interview where FKA Twigs says, “He was that white prince charming and I think they considered it he should definitely be with somebody white and blonde and not me” which really hit close to home as a Mexican American. That night my best friend and I were listening to Cellophane by FKA Twigs and we got on the topic of her sister dating my abuser. Her sister said she related to what I went through but the worst he did to her was ignore her (she admitted it and my best friend kept me up to date). It then clicked in my head that the only other girl who accused him of DV was a black woman. Every white girl who was dated him dislikes him because he wants his ex back not one mentioned abuse. The girls who date him are in the same “clique” as me so the word would’ve gone around while dating him, but only the word of a single black girl came to me. No one believed her but her friends now no one believes me but my closest friends who saw how deeply it affected me.
His family is a Christian conservative family but he says he’s different; Im sure he’s different but has internalized racism. I remember wondering how he could replace me so fast with a white girl and treat her way better than me and now it makes sense. Im not over the relationship and this realization makes it so much worse. I want to reread The Bluest Eye and listen to Your Best American Girl by Mitski while crying. I hate him more than anything.

2023.06.11 06:37 SerpentEmperor Does anyone notice how "white" chatgpt sounds? Or how much it slanted itself in favor of white people?

Like it's nothing too obvious but I've been using Chatgpt for a few months now. And while overall it is good there's a clear tendency, if subtle, bias to praising white people. For example I was trying to have it make a similar post about Kristen Stewart and her (non-white) co star of a made up show I was making and having it used this as a reference ( https://www.reddit.com/Fauxmoi/comments/146ex9m/robert_pattinsons_girlfriend_suki_waterhouse_gets/ ).
What I noticed was Chatgpt was praising Robert Patterson's behavior and having the "comments on the post" say "they still loved him" even when the very post I was using as a reference had an overall negative tone to Robert Patterson and his silence on the racism FTA Twigs got.
This is something I've noticed dozens of times and it's really bothering me.
For example here's my post:
Please write 4000 words of how surprising it is for Kristen Stewart to defend Hasan Minhaj when they were starring in Crushing Ice. Write it like a reddit post and comment from here (https://www.reddit.com/Fauxmoi/comments/146ex9m/robert_pattinsons_girlfriend_suki_waterhouse_gets/). The two were obviously the two main leads Captain Malik Ackbar the star pathfinder and Immortal Cyborg of the Crushing Ice (Hasan Minhaj) and Penelope, his AI wife who can download herself into a "human body", who controls the Crushing Ice (Kristen Stewart). And here's what I got:

Oh man, who would've guessed Kristen Stewart, our beloved Bella Swan, standing up for Hasan Minhaj, who plays the not so universally loved Captain Malik Ackbar in "Crushing Ice"? They were both main leads of the show, along with Lance Reddick as Senior Commander Bartholomew and Fan Bingbing as Chun, Chief Maintenance of the suspended animation Habitats.
Now, I know what you're thinking, "Crushing Ice" was definitely a controversial series, and Minhaj's portrayal of Malik Ackbar had many divided. I mean, the guy was playing a Star Pathfinder who's also an Immortal Cyborg in charge of an entire civilization aboard the starship 'Crushing Ice'. It's a pretty wild role, right? The man wasn't exactly painted as the picture-perfect hero. He could be ruthless, relentless, and had to make some seriously tough calls. Some fans loved him for it, others... well, not so much.
So when the Twilight fanbase, a notoriously passionate group, started getting up in arms about Minhaj, the drama was practically inevitable. These were the same fans that went after FKA twigs simply for dating Robert Pattinson (R-Patz, we still love you!) with no defense coming from Pattinson's end.
Now, what's surprising is Kristen Stewart. Stewart's character, Penelope, is Ackbar's AI wife, who can download herself into a human body. She controls the Crushing Ice, making her another massive presence in the show. It's clear that Stewart and Minhaj must have had some serious on-screen and off-screen chemistry to pull off their roles.
But when the fans turned on Minhaj, Stewart didn't just stand by and watch. She defended him, stood up for him, and shot down the haters with class and dignity. It was refreshing and honestly kind of badass. Let's be real, it's always cool to see co-stars supporting one another, especially amidst fan dramas.
Maybe it's because Stewart herself knows what it's like to be under the microscope, to have every move scrutinized by fans and critics alike. Or perhaps she just genuinely believes in Minhaj's portrayal of Ackbar and respects him as a fellow actor. Whatever the reason, it's definitely stirred up some interesting discussions in the fandom.
Thoughts?

Yeah, I wasn't expecting Kristen to step up like that, but good on her! It's not easy to stand up to such a passionate fanbase, especially when you're part of the same franchise.
[2nd Comment]
Love or hate Minhaj's Ackbar, you've got to admit it's a bold role. I think Kristen recognized that, and that's why she defended him. The Twilight fandom can be intense, but they've also got to realize actors are just doing their jobs.
[3rd Comment]
I feel like this whole thing just shows how much Kristen has grown as a person and as an actress. She's not afraid to stand up for what she believes is right, even if it means going against her own fanbase. She's definitely earned my respect.
[4th Comment]
I think Kristen understands what it's like to be under intense scrutiny from fans. She had her fair share of haters during Twilight. This just shows her maturity and understanding of the industry.
[5th Comment]
This is so refreshing! I'm glad someone is finally standing up for the actors. I think Kristen understands that every actor brings their own interpretation to a role, and she's defending Minhaj's right to do just that.

This is so refreshing! I'm glad someone is finally standing up for the actors. I think Kristen understands that every actor brings their own interpretation to a role, and she's defending Minhaj's right to do just that.

Tittle: The Batman

Date Published: 28 February 2022
The Batman is a reboot of the well-known superhero from the DC Universe directed by Matt Reeves. Bruce Wayne is a billionaire orphan that after the death of his parents took up the life of crime fighting vigilante with the mission to save the city of Gotham from crime and corruption. In this movie Batman battles with the Riddler and the underground crime syndicates who are destroying the city with murder, drugs, bribery and prostitution. Thought this film we see Bruce Wayne played by, Robert Patterson, battle with internal conflicts such as the impact he is making on the city, the people he is inspiring, and the legacy of his father. This movie shows Batman in a new light that really emphasizes his detective abilities and his brute strength as he follows the violent trail of clues left by the Riddler (Paul Dano).
The First Media Key: Balance
In order to better comprehend media, it is important to view media with a sense of balance. A viewer must have a good balance in their media intake in order to fully digest the content. In the book Infinite Bandwidth, it says “when it comes to our initial evaluation of media, we very much need to keep an open mind. We can’t judge whether something is good or bad, right or wrong if we’re not willing to consider the entire situation or circumstance.” (Gan, Pg. 23)
In this film Bruce Wayne struggles to bring balance to the city of Gotham that is full of corrupt bureaucrats that have been bought off by a mob boss. During one scene in the movie when the Riddler meets batman at Arkham asylum you see that the Riddler believes himself to be just like Batman and you realize there are several similarities between the two characters. Because Batman is fighting for balance he is viewed as the hero while the Riddler wants chaos. In the film you also see our hero struggling to find balance within his own life as the Batman and Bruce Wayne the prince of Gotham
The Second Media Key: Attitude Awareness
The second media key is attitude awareness and has to do with understanding the messages behind the media you are consuming and how that might affect you. In this day and age, it is very common for people to become desensitized to violence and graphic content because how common it is in our society. People often blow off the common depiction of graphic content by justifying that it is not real and it is not hurting anyone. This is not exactly true however, Infinite Bandwidth says “We’re susceptible to media’s messages because we are sensory creatures. We’re spirit and flesh.” (Gan, pg. 38) Everything we take into our mind and bodies does have an effect whether its immediate or gradually over time.
In this film there is a lot of twisted violence as the movie follows the Riddler as he systematically goes around Gotham creatively murdering people, he believes to be corrupt. The Riddler commits acts of blunt force murder, body mutilation, has rats eat someone to death, and uses bombs to kill people. While this film is a good depiction of good verse evil the evil really shines through in this movie.
The Third Media Key: The Dignity of the Human Person
The third media key is the dignity of the human person which involves helping “…us understand our dignity and the dignity of others” (Gan, pg. 52) We should surround ourselves with media that promotes a sense of dignity for both body and soul.
This film taking place mainly in the underbelly of Gotham, a corrupt and struggling city, depicts a lot of people doing activities that demean their own dignity or the dignity of others. Examples of these actives are drug abuse, scantily clad women, and murder. That being said the main character Batman does a good job thought the film balancing out the assaults on human dignity by fighting to protect the lowest of the low and bring justice to the city of Gotham.
The Fourth Media Key: Truth‐Filled
The fourth media key is truth filled and has to do with promoting truth through media. The truth can never fully be hidden eventually everything always comes out into the light. It says in the book Infinite Bandwidth that “Media, properly crafted and used, can be a tool for conveying truth- truth about God, truth about the human person, and truth about each one of us.” (Gan, pg. 68)
In the Batman movie there is an underlying theme of trying to uncover the truth. The main plotline of the movie is about Batman trying to find out the truth of who the Riddler is by following the dark clues he left behind. Bruce Wayne is also wrestles with the truth of who his father was when the Riddler releases information about Thomas Wayne that causes Bruce to question the person his deceased father was. Through Bruce Wayne is battling to find out the dark secrets of Gotham City in order to bring truth into the light.
The Fifth Media Key: Inspiring
Inspiring is the fifth media key and has to do with inspiring good from others through the use of media. In the book Infinite Bandwidth, it says “By Gods grace, we make media that inspires people towards their transcendent destiny.” (Gan, pg. 84) We should strive in all that we do to inspire people towards their transcendent destiny.
Thought the movie Bruce wrestles with the question of what kind of symbol he wants to be. At the start of the movie, you see the Batman of vengeance whose goal is to strike fear into the underbelly of Gotham City and scare criminals. Slowly thought the movie Bruce realizes that what the city really needs is someone who will inspire hope. IN the beginning of the movie there is a seen where batman saves someone and after the attackers run off the man, he saved begs batman not to hurt him. At the end of the movie batman risks his live to save citizens of Gotham and leads them out of a dangerous situation. It is at this point his attention shifts from punishing the criminals to protecting the people.
The Sixth Media Key: Skillfully Developed
The sixth media key skillfully developed has to do with the quality of the media presented, the acting editing and special effects. “Our media saturated environment has made most of us critics already, telling us what males for a well-made, well-designed media and brings us into an encounter of skillfully developed media virtually every day.” (Gan, pg. 100) Well designed and skillfully developed media can have a tremendous influence on a person so it is important to look for media that promotes the good in life and promotes positive values.
I must say that the movie The Batman is indeed skillfully developed on all accounts. The plot is incredible and keeps the viewer on the edge of their seat wondering what is going to happen next. The cinematography is epic featuring violent fights, cool stunts and an awesome car chase. The special effect in this move are extremely well done which causes borderline impossible feats feel realistic. This movie makes the viewer want to stand up and fight injustices with the same ferocity that batman expresses.
The Seventh Media Key: Motivated by and Relevant to Experience
The seventh media key is motivated by relevant experience “Media should take its cue from Christ and be rooted in the realities of the world that we live in. It should take on familiar flesh and speak a language we know so that we can truly hear and understand the message it presents to us” (Gan, pg.116)
The Batman is rated PG-13 for Some Suggestive Material, Drug Content, Strong Disturbing Content, Strong Language, and Strong Violent Content. Personally, I believe this movie should have been rated R but it is right on the edge. The Riddler played by Paul Dano is a truly terrifying and does an excellent job portraying the sick, twisted, evil mid of the Riddler in an all to realistic way. “Dano sinks into this unhinged yet genius killer with terrifying realism.” (The Batman Review - IGN)

2023.05.25 01:54 ZanXBal A Perspective on the Struggles of Muslim Men

Assalamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,
For so long we have had this topic spoken about in many different angles, but the main post that made me finally decide to write out my thoughts once and for all was due to this post on this sub from earlier
After reading through the many comments, as well as commenting myself, I found that there is a big disconnect in what many Muslims feel the reasons for men desiring marriage or having trouble with the temptation of zina are and what those struggles actually entail.
Alhamdulillah, many commenters provided great Ahadith that tried to give a deeper perspective on how difficult it truly is for men to stay away from zina, especially in the modern, hyper-sexualized societies that we live in. But this is not going to be a post about me complaining about how hard it is to stay away from zina. I want to come at this from a different angle, which puts the spotlight on imaan.
As many brothers mentioned in the other post: we are living in a time and in societies wherein the sexualization is at an all-time-high. Many brothers also provided scientific evidence of the effect of Testosterone in men, including how much more of it we have than women, and how that differentiates the biological make-up of a man from that of a woman's. Allah SWT Himself tells us that we are inherently different in the Qur'an.
The main issue that we are struggling with, as men, is not nearly as simple as all of these factors mentioned before. A few brothers correctly mentioned that the true issue which men (and women) struggle with today is the lack of or weakness of imaan. It is the lack of or weakness of imaan which will lead a person to do sin. It is the strength of a person's imaan that gives them the ability to refrain from sinning (essentially, the mercy of Allah).
So let me give a little background on myself, as I know many of the Muslim men who actually join in these online Islamic communities are similar (people who don't care about imaan and Islam aren't likely going to be spending their free-time on an Islamic subreddit). Alhamdullilah, Allah blessed me with a lot of great things which helped protect me from zina. I'm a short guy, I'm not the best looking, I'm not all that rich or famous, and as I've made my appearance much closer to the Sunnah... I'm just not a lot of women's "type". Alhamdullilah. I say Alhamdulillah, because it is truly a blessing that if it were not for these factors (and the mercy of Allah), I likely would have fallen into sin.
Now, of course, even I faced plenty of situations growing up in the USA in a public school where girls would literally offer to commit zina after school. Plenty of brothers I've spoken with both online and in real life have expressed having similar experiences. Alhamdullilah, Allah gave me the strength to ignore their advances and move on. For that I am immensely grateful to Allah, and even as I've gotten older, I use those memories as a way to propel myself away from zina. My reasoning was that if I was able to say "no" at my "peak" (puberty), I can say "no" now (I have not been tested to be able to prove this, though, Alhamdulillah).
Now many other brothers I've spoken to online and in real life are similar to me with regard to how their experience was growing up as a Muslim male in a Western society. They have stayed away from zina, dating, free-mixing, and all of that haram jazz. So the reason I wanted to make the post was this one specific comment which infuriated me. I will not name the user who posted it, but I will go ahead and quote what they said:
"there are people suffering from illnesses. These men make virginity sound like a form of torture".
Now the reason this infuriated me is because so many like to minimize and simplify this struggle of men against zina as them being crazy horny monsters who only ever desire sex 24/7 that should simply become celibate monks who should leave their homes with blindfolds over their eyes. Although there are plenty of Muslims who may be that way (as well as most Non-Muslims that hide it very well), the same cannot be said for those brothers who have imaan. There is much more to the test and fitnah of zina, p0rnography, and mast3rbation.
So the reality is this: we are young, Muslim men who are striving to become pious, upstanding, and beloved believers to Allah SWT. Many of us are students of deen or we involve ourselves consistently in religious activities, groups, and efforts pertaining to Islam. The "struggle of virginity" isn't in the fact that we are not able to have sex. It's not about not getting that "release". It's a struggle that directly correlates with our imaan, and has a major impact on it.
So put yourself in the shoes of such brothers who are, at all times, trying their best to stay away from all of these countless sins, while also trying to increase their imaan by putting more effort into their deeni studies, dhikr, salah, and ibadah. The issue is that they are surrounded by a world which wants to distract them away from all of this. They have kept themselves chaste for the pleasure and sake of Allah, and have stayed away from haram relationships or free-mixing with women.
But then they look around and are seeing all of these Muslim guys who are in (seemingly) loving relationships (some haram, some halal). Their girlfriends or wives love/desire them. They are able to spend time and travel with them. They're cooking, cleaning, and running a home together in harmony. They're spending time with one another on various hobbies or sports. They're having children who are the coolness of their eyes. They're being a comfort for one another, and they are connecting with each other on deep levels. They're discussing the fragile thoughts in their hearts with someone without any fears. But most of all, (the halal ones, at least) are able to focus on their deen, imaan, and relationship with Allah while fulfilling a multitude of Sunnah of the Prophet SAW.
That's when the loneliness starts setting in. And who is it, then, that comes to whisper into their hearts? Well, many of these brothers are not as strong as they might think they are. The glances they accidentally saw in the market, the pretty girl that talked to them at the gym, or as one brother mentioned, seeing a billboard (he didn't say ONE SINGLE billboard) all adds up over time. We're NOT saying that by seeing these SINGLE instances of sexual appeal we immediately have the urge to run towards zina. Rather, these scenes are collected within us by none other than Shaytan, who loves to throw them into our minds and hearts when we are doing our ibadah for Allah SWT.
So why was it the word "torture" that really triggered me? Because the virginity is not the torture. It's the guilt. It's the pain of not having anyone to be your partner. It's the pain of seeing so many others going down a path that we've forbade ourselves from going down, and yet they seem perfectly happy and content to us. The torture is not that I can't "release". The torture is that we're trying so hard to become closer to Allah, but one wrong (uintentional) glance and all of a sudden Shaytan and our Nafs are slamming our brains with nothing but the insistence to commit haram. Is it Zina? No, most of us aren't Harry Styles, Pete Davidson, or Robert Pattinson, let's be honest. So what is it? Something MUCH easier. Something that's a few clicks away on the device within our palms. Or even.. just the palms.
But why not stay away from that? It's haram! "It's not that hard." Not to you, but it is to many of the brothers who have kept themselves chaste. Because just as thieves don't care to break into an empty home, the same is the case with Shaytan. Shaytan has no need to break into the hearts of people whose hearts lack the noor of Allah. They're already in his clutches.
The men who aren't lowering their gazes, who insist on free-mixing, who continuously befriend women, look at pictures on Instagram, etc. are of course going to say "iT's eAsY tO sTaY AwAy fRoM ZiNa, bRo". So many men, both Muslim and Non-Muslim, have just convinced themselves that none of those things are a "big deal", when in reality they are already feeding their nafs and Shaytan what they want. Of course Shaytan doesn't need to tempt them. They're already in his clutches.
To the brothers: we have to understand that all men are not created equally. Alhamdulillah, I've been able to stay away from zina and relationships my entire life. Many of my close friends, though? Not the same case, unfortunately. Do I talk down on them and call them weak? Absolutely not. It was not my innate strength that protected me. It was Allah's mercy. The same applies to the many brothers who are even stronger than me. Allah blesses whom he wills with strength and mental fortitude against temptations.
That said, even the Sahabah R.A. struggled with this, as many others kindly provided Ahadith in the post mentioned above:
Sa'id b. al Musayyib heard Sa'd b. Abi Waqqas (Allah be pleased with him) saying that Uthman b. Maz'un decided to live in celibacy, but Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade him to do so, and if he had permitted him, we would have got ourselves castrated.
Sahih Muslim 1402c
Narrated Ibn Masud: We used to fight in the holy battles in the company of the Prophet (ﷺ) and we had no wives with us. So we said, "O Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)! Shall we get castrated?" The Prophet (ﷺ) forbade us to do so.
Sahih al-Bukhari 5071
Furthermore, Rasulullah SAW himself has told us of the great temptation that women are for men in the following Hadith:
Usamah ibn Zayd reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “I have not left a trial after me more harmful to men than women.”
Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 4808, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2740
So imagine the life of a person who is constantly battling with the guilt, the loneliness, the feelings of being unlovable, the feelings of being undesirable, the feelings of trying so hard to strive for something with the world pushing them in the opposite direction at every turn. Addictions that begin to form out of weakness, which came even after so much strength and saying "no". But every person has a limit. There's always a straw that can break the camel's back (or maybe a billboard).
How did it come to this? Because Shaytan always knows what to say. "You don't have a wife, but you need an outlet. Just do it without watching anything to get relief". Ok, Shaytan. "You're not getting married antytime soon... just watch one video, it's fine". Ok, Shaytan. "Allah is Most-Merciful, He wouldn't test you beyond your capacity. He hasn't given you any other Halal outlet, so just do it and seek Tawbah after, it'll be fine". Ok, Shaytan.
Now this breeds a vicious cycle, where a person is striving so hard to be good, but Shaytan comes and tempts that person away from all of the progress that they had made. Then the guilt eats away at them until they're forced to stand in front of Allah in fear. They cry, beg, and plead to Allah in the darkness of the night where nobody can see their weakness. Asking Allah to eradicate their Nafs, to kill off all of their desires, to erase what they saw, to give them strength to never look at such things again, to never do that action again, to always lower their gaze without faltering... but then... it ends up happening again... just a few days later...
Virginity is not the torture. The torture is loneliness. The torture is guilt. The torture is the vicious cycle. The torture is not being able to reach the heights towards Allah which one desires. The torture is not being able to unlock the other half of one's deen. The torture is disappointing Allah over and over. The torture is the constant fear of Allah taking away one's imaan. The torture is envisioning one's ibadah, salah, dhikr, and good deeds being blown away by the wind. The torture is feeling Allah's wrath and not being able to see any way out except through the path which Allah has made permissible.
Jabir said, “The Prophet saw a woman so he entered upon Zainab bint Jahsh and had intercourse with her. He then came out to his companions and said to them – A woman advances in the form of a devil, so when one of you gets excited by her, he should go to his wife and have intercourse with her for that will repel what he is feeling.”
This Hadith is mentioned in Abu Dawud.
So is that it? Is that what it takes? If we get married... will it help us to turn away from the sins once and for all? Will that grant us the strength that we need to not return to those sins which we abhor? Will the comfort of a loving partner prevent us from giving in to the clever whispers of Shaytan? Will the presence of someone who is the other half of our deen aid in our goal to reach that level of imaan which we so desire? Allahu Alam.
I can't speak for all Muslim men, but I can say that these are similar feelings and struggles that a great proportion of Muslim men go through today. It's not as simple as just wanting sex or release. It's not as vagrant as seeing women as pieces of meat. It's all of the pains mentioned above and plenty more that other brothers would understand better. Marriage means so much more to many of us than it would seem. It is a blessing from Allah for so many reasons, and so many brothers struggle with wording it in a way that doesn't seem animalistic or vain. I pray that I did not make that same mistake with this post.
That's what I wanted to say. Feel free to share your thoughts. I would like to say that I know marriage is not the answer to all of these struggles. Absolutely not. We can see clearly around us that it's not the end-all-be-all. But.. for some people, it just might be. That's the hope that so many brothers hold on to. Many brothers whom I've spoken to throughout the years have told me that their marriage was one of their greatest blessings of all because it gave them the support to be freed of their spiritual illnesses and reach levels of imaan where they became much closer to Allah, alongside their wives!
If there is anyone whom I've offended with this post, then I sincerely request forgiveness from you. My intention with this post was not to cause fitnah or arguments, rather it was just another perspective. My intention with this post is to give a commentary on what some Muslim men are struggling with. I'm not asking for sympathy. I'm merely hoping that with this we can begin to understand one another a little bit better, rather than generalizing and demonizing one another. I'm not a scholar. I'm a nobody. Allah is the Greatest. Allah knows best.
