I work in the archives at my university and we just deacessioned this book that we decided was not technically rare that was taking up space in our collections. My boss said I could keep it after we processed it. The author is Constantine George Rickards and it's called The Ruins of Mexico. The publisher info for this particular copy is listed as follows on the title page:
London, W. / H. E. Shrimpton, / 105, Regent Street. / 1910.
I cannot find a single biography on this author anywhere. All I know is the info he gave in the book's introduction about how the plates are photos he took while traveling through Mexico in 1910. He signed it along with marking his location at the time of writing said intro:
Constantine George Rickards. / Oaxaca, / September, 1910.
All I could find through googling the address was that it's now part of a shopping district in London but couldn't find anything on the publisher's name or the author's name besides the fact that this was his only known publication, and he wanted to make a second volume according to a slip of paper inside the book, which gives two publishing houses where they would supposedly be able to be obtained from in 1911, including the above. As far as I've seen online, volume 2 was never made. It doesn't exist anywhere, just people's copies of v. 1 they're trying to sell online for however much money. I searched for Constantine on ancestry and couldn't find anything either, but I'm not sure if it's because I'm just somehow incompetent with tech despite growing up with it. The slip of paper says as follows:

My next courses of action will likely be looking into the Oaxacan publisher and address listed, as well as doing an ancestry search for Shrimpton, but I don't have too much hope I'll turn up anything. If anyone knows a thing or two about this and would like to help, or even if you're just interested in helping track these figures down and find out what happened to them and more about their lives, especially that of the author, any help is greatly appreciated.

Of all American presidents, Lincoln, second, only to maybe Washington, is the most mythologized and deified. And as a result you can sometimes take for granted, like I did, that he’s a human being and that his skill in communication wasn’t something genetic.
But I’m reading Michael Burlingame’s massive two part biography of Lincoln and he gets down in the minute details of Lincoln’s childhood and what you see is Lincoln’s fascination with, in broad terms, language. Over and over again Burlingame talks about his hunger to understand how to communicate. He’d write on anything and everything he could from paper, to wood, to slate. He’d devour any books he could get his hands on and, if he didn’t understand a passage or phrase, he’d keep writing it and re-reading it until he understood. In his own words, he said it would drive him nuts if he couldn’t understand what a book or author was talking about
And learning that made me appreciate what Lincoln did. To my mind at least, this broke white trash kid was basically analyzing the English language and how to use it effectively. He’d break down a piece writing to its most basic elements and analyze the those constituent parts to understand how, why and what the writespeaker was attempting to do and what literary tools they were using to do it.
From that nearly subatomic knowledge, his own experience as a poor man and a generous helping of natural talent came the legendary Lincoln we remember today speaking at Gettysburg. Not a mythic figure but a self made man.

I want to start this by saying I enjoy Bridgerton and have read the books for every lead Bridgerton sibling so far (Daphne, Anthony and Colin) and am also generally a huge fan of the inclusivity and diversity of the cast.
Having said that, there are obviously quite a few opinions on this season and some very mixed.
Personally, I didn’t enjoy this season as much as the previous ones. Even the execution of the spin-off was great, despite me not being a particularly big fan of QC herself. Farmer George was the best. I loved Kanthony and Season 1 was obviously iconic for obvious reasons.
This season felt very different from previous seasons (a new showrunner, new costumes, lots of new characters and storylines, too much going on and too little romance from the lead couple, etc.)
I happened to voice my disappointment on a TikTok that was claiming how those who did not like the season are “unable to comprehend media” and should “stop scrolling while watching” and “rewatch” and this made me want to post here as well. I was instantly called a hater and attacked by many people.
Bridgerton die-hard fans are so toxic. Just because a person is expressing disappointment, does not make them a hater nor does it make them stupid and dumb. I keep seeing this take everywhere and it’s so annoying and ridiculous. What do you mean you are afraid for this generation’s lack of comprehension? Dramatic much?
Oh, you didn’t like it? Rewatch. You probably didn’t understand. Oh, you thought there was no development? Polin has been around since Season 1. Go read the book.
Yes, Polin has been around since Season 1. Longing, pining and faraway love all from Penelope’s side. In the book, Colin had several scenes where he explained in detail how he fell in love with her and he declared his love to her over and over again. Granted, we haven’t seen the whole season yet and the second part seems quite exciting and dramatic.
My point is, why can’t people here accept each other’s opinion and move on? Why call others morons and stupid for not wanting to rewatch? It’s not the watcher’s fault that the piece of media is not likable nor understandable during the first watch.

Let’s talk about Goody Rosen. He was the subject of attention for being part of a minority group - he was Canadian. At that time, who was the best Canadian ball player? George Selkirk? Fergie Jenkins was the first Canadian elected to Cooperstown, in 1991, and joined by Larry Walker in 2020. According to Baseball-Reference, there were 265 major leaguers born in Canada - 59 of whom played before 1900 (including one that Baseball-Reference has named as “The Only Nolan” - look it up if you don’t believe me). I think Adam Stern was the next Jewish player from Canada, and he didn’t join the MLB until 2005 and then Ryan Braun in 2006. Dan Shulman was born in Canada, and he has been a finalist for the Ford C. Frick Award presented by the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Hi everyone! I posted a comment about it right after season 3 dropped, and I have seen a bit of interest in the Northwest Passage on here recently. I thought that for those of you who didn’t learn about it extensively in school in the small corner of Canada that I did, I’d put together a little informative post on the extremely brief (and perhaps even inconsequential!) reference to the Northwest Passage in Episode 4. I’ll provide an overview of the Passage and its history, touch on some characteristics of travel to this region, and conclude with some completely speculative comments on the literary purpose of evoking the passage in this scene in Season 4.

A quick note on the colonial nature of this post: Throughout this short post, I refer to several colonial expeditions to the land many of us call Canada. Although I attempt to be cognizant of my language, it is important to note that the Inuit people who live in the arctic regions that I reference have navigated the sea ice for thousands of years (Panikkar et al., 2018) and that the written history of this region are often hegemonic and euro-centric narratives that were formed within colonial frameworks.

What does it signify? If a character in Bridgerton was voyaging to the Arctic, it could take them less than a year to reach areas of the Hudson Bay that would be suitable for a scientific voyage. That in itself is not overly dangerous. However, the reference to the Northwest Passage is an interesting literary point. Of all of the places to voyage in the Arctic, even at the time, it would have been an immensely dangerous trip to set out on. The persistent lack of success for a solid 30 years after this season takes place may reference the fact that this is a voyage that Debling is unlikely to ever return from.
It doesn’t help that Debling’s odds are really stacked against him. He does not eat meat, one of the only renewable sources of food for arctic expeditions. There is little to no fresh naturally occurring produce (during the Coppermine expedition, the surviving crew members famously ate lichen to survive once they lost the favour of local indigenous groups and fur traders) and did not do well.
Certainly, it lends a very tragic potential element to the story. The Arctic, if mentioned alone, is not necessarily an overly dangerous location to travel to. Yes, marine travel in the 1800s was still a dangerous endeavour in its own right, let alone in an area as unnavigable by sea as the Arctic. However, the North, in many regions, had active whaling expeditions, Indigenous populations that were willing to trade and work with sailors, and (in some areas) active fur trades. If the purpose of Debling’s travel was only to highlight his unique interests and sense of purpose, the show had many methods of doing so. The choice to reference a notorious and dangerous Northwest Passage, there is an extremely interesting element of danger that is introduced.
What would this potential marriage mean for Penelope? Of course, Penelope’s name is a reference to the wife of Odysseus, who unwillingly takes ten years to return home after the Trojan war. In contrast to Colin, who returns with a steadfast conviction, Debling may represent a kind of eternal limbo for Penelope, should she marry him. Although Debling’s trip is set to take 3 years, it would be hard to prove his death. Likely, she would be a widow for years, if not her entire life, before they were able to locate his ship. The HMS Terror was famously lost in 1845 and not located until 2016(!). As a result, Penelope would likely be stuck at home, awaiting his return, in the same tragic fashion of her namesake in Greek mythology.
As such, not only is there a potential tragic reference to Debling’s future, but there is also a dark illusion to what Penelope’s life may look like as his wife. Of course, this is all based entirely on implication, but it is an interesting act of speculative foreshadowing.

Hi everyone! I posted a comment about it right after season 3 dropped, and I have seen a bit of interest in the Northwest Passage on here recently. I thought that for those of you who didn’t learn about it extensively in school in the small corner of Canada that I did, I’d put together a little informative post on the extremely brief (and perhaps even inconsequential!) reference to the Northwest Passage in Episode 4. I’ll provide an overview of the Passage and its history, touch on some characteristics of travel to this region, and conclude with some completely speculative comments on the literary purpose of evoking the passage in this scene in Season 4.
A quick note on the colonial nature of this post: Throughout this short post, I refer to several colonial expeditions to the land many of us call Canada. Although I attempt to be cognizant of my language, it is important to note that the Inuit people who live in the arctic regions that I reference have navigated the sea ice for thousands of years (Panikkar et al., 2018) and that the written history of this region are often hegemonic and euro-centric narratives that were formed within colonial frameworks.

Exploring the Northwest Passage- a bit of context
In August of 1820, Lieutenant Edward Parry, a member of the British Royal Navy observed the dense ice and snow of arctic land and sea that was thought to be the location of the mysterious Northwest Passage. From a simple look, he knew that no ship in existence would be able to pass through ice sheets of such a great thickness and that extended for such a long distance (Brandt, 2011). Despite his pessimism, by Parry’s time, British sailors and explorers had been explicitly seeking the passage for hundreds of years (Williams & Costley, 2010; Day, 2006, p. xxiv), dreaming of exploiting the desirable economic prospect of a Western route from Europe to burgeoning Asian markets.
First encounters: When European sailors first encountered North America, it was in pursuit of a route west to Asia. They were, of course, incorrect about the location of Asia. And although a great deal of interest shifted to mapping the new continent, there was also an acknowledgement that there would be great economic benefits to finding a way around this newly encountered landmass (Day, 2006). Over time, the reasons and methods of locating the Northwest Passage changed and evolved, but interest never truly went away.
Renewed British interest: Notably, at the end of the 15th century, when the Ottoman Turk’s empire extended into the Mediterranean and eastward, European merchants were no longer allowed to move and trade freely (Day, 2006). Seeking new routes for the Pacific, European (and especially British) explorers turned West. The Northwest Passage was a concept, a theoretical possibility, for European explorers. It was seen as a potential commercial sea route to the trading markets that were already established and burgeoning in Asia. The Passage was a route with phenomenal economic potential, especially as European consumers sought spices, materials, salts, and woods from foreign markets (Williams & Costley, 2010).
Based on their knowledge of the Southern Hemisphere and the potential geography of the world, many believed that a similar passage would be reflected in the earth’s northern pole (Day, 2006). As a result, there was a massive potential for financial gain for colonial governments and individuals, should such a passage ever be found.
Public fascination: The passage became a point of national fascination for many members of the public. In pursuit of this fascination, many enthusiastic researchers “persuaded persons of influence and wealth to send out discovery expeditions” (Williams & Costley, 2010, p. xv). With governments in Europe stabilizing, the emergence of an economy of cheap labour (lower class men who were willing to take on the dangerous work at sea), and the rapid development of ship technology, the 1600s was a prime time to set out on expeditions.
The fascination with the Passage continued for 300 years until a passage was finally navigated by sea in full in the 1900s. Over the course of history, Anthony Brandt describes the fascination with the Passage’s discovery as a tragedy (2011). He writes: “hubris, an all-too-human arrogance and pride that triggered a particular calamity” (p. 5) as being the tragedy of the exploration for the Passage. Despite the fascination of the public with it, the ice “remained intractable, impenetrable, and, for those who challenged it, a kind of fate” (p. 5) George Malcom Thomson reported that the Passage did not exist where popular imagination speculated it must be (Day, 2006). He noted: “the whole enterprise was founded on a misapprehension, a geographical fiction, a fairy-tale … and downright inventions that scholar manufacture to amaze themselves” (p. xxv).
The danger of the passage: Voyages to and in search of the passage were fraught. Many never returned, and those who did survive faced immense physical and mental challenges. There were, of course, significant difficulties with massive ice drifts and shelves. However, the relative location of the expeditions to the north pole led to issues with magnetic variation for compasses. Fog further complicated travel (Williams & Costley, 2010).
There were also extreme mental dangers to pursuing the NWP. MooSmith’s expedition in the mid-1700s reported “potentially murderous quarrels between officers” (Williams & Costley, 2010, p. xvi); John Franklin noted that the things that occurred on his ship “must not be known” (p. xvi); and it was noted that on the McClure, Beckler, and Collinson expeditions, “tensions” erupted “as captains and subordinate officers exchanged threats of court martial, and some officers spend years under close arrest on their ships” (p. xvi).
In the time of Bridgerton: The end of the Napoleonic Wars in 1815 allowed for greater expeditions by the British Royal Navy (Day, 2006). This would have included surveys of a large portion of the global north and the Arctic. There were a large number of “successful” (depending on how you define it) land expeditions that had made progress in producing surveys and maps of the region. Despite significant ongoing interest in discovering the Passage, in particular, little progress had been made. Later still, despite more advanced mapping by the Hudson Bay Company and expeditions by many notable sailors, there was still no route by the 1820s (Day, 2006).
What does it signify? If a character in Bridgerton was voyaging to the Arctic, it could take them less than a year to reach areas of the Hudson Bay that would be suitable for a scientific voyage. That in itself is not overly dangerous. However, the reference to the Northwest Passage is an interesting literary point. Of all of the places to voyage in the Arctic, even at the time, it would have been an immensely dangerous trip to set out on. The persistent lack of success for a solid 30 years after this season takes place may reference the fact that this is a voyage that Debling is unlikely to ever return from.
It doesn’t help that Debling’s odds are really stacked against him. He does not eat meat, one of the only renewable sources of food for arctic expeditions. There is little to no fresh naturally occurring produce (during the Coppermine expedition, the surviving crew members famously ate lichen to survive once they lost the favour of local indigenous groups and fur traders) and did not do well.
Certainly, it lends a very tragic potential element to the story. The Arctic, if mentioned alone, is not necessarily an overly dangerous location to travel to. Yes, marine travel in the 1800s was still a dangerous endeavour in its own right, let alone in an area as unnavigable by sea as the Arctic. However, the North, in many regions, had active whaling expeditions, Indigenous populations that were willing to trade and work with sailors, and (in some areas) active fur trades. If the purpose of Debling’s travel was only to highlight his unique interests and sense of purpose, the show had many methods of doing so. The choice to reference a notorious and dangerous Northwest Passage, there is an extremely interesting element of danger that is introduced.
What would this potential marriage mean for Penelope? Of course, Penelope’s name may be a reference to the wife of Odysseus, who unwillingly takes ten years to return home after the Trojan war. In contrast to Colin, who returns with a steadfast conviction, Debling, as a traveler, may represent a kind of eternal limbo for Penelope, should she marry him. Attia has coined the terms Medicine 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0. Medicine 1.0 was the time when medicine did not use the scientific method and often would do more harm than good. Think bloodletting 40% of George Washington’s blood the day he died. Around the 17th century the scientific method started to be used, and according to Attia by the 19th century medicine 1.0 transitioned to medicine 2.0. With the utilization of antibiotics and vaccines alone we have saved and extended millions of lives utilizing this method. For the past 200 years we have been using the scientific method and have taken it as far as it can go. Medicine 2.0 needs the patient to first get sick in order to fit into an algorithm that identifies and reacts to the problem that is present. It is a system that incentivizes reactive medical treatment instead of eliminating the illness begore it ever occurs. In 2017-2018 Harvard study found that the half-life of medical information was 18 months. Translation, every 18-month period that passes eliminates/modifies what your doctor learned in medical school by 50%. Doctors need to be constantly researching to maintain the edge on medicine that they had when leaving medical school. Medicine 2.0 did an amazing job of getting us from point A to point B, but now is the time to transition us to point C. “We have reached the limits of medicine 2.0 capacity, and if longevity is something we are aspiring for, we need a new strategy.” —Peter Attia Medicine 3.0 accepts the tools and advancements made by 2.0 but has a focus on individualization, education, and optimization for longevity. To optimize health, it will need to be nuanced and specific to each patient’s biology. The role of the doctor being a cookie cutter one stop shop for everything health needs to change. A doctor does not need to be a patient’s psychologist, nutritionist, exercise physiologist, etc. Prevention needs to be the priority as medicine moves forward. In ‘Outlive’ Attia wrote about the mystic centurions that live long healthy lives in the “blue zones.” He stated that they [the centurions] live long not because they get sick and go to the doctor to mitigate their illnesses [medicine 2.0], but they simply are able to delay these common illnesses into their old age. Reinforcing that prevention is significantly more important than waiting until someone is sick to start interventions. This new shift puts the patient in the driver seat of their own health. A relationship with the doctor is created and built on trust. Education is important in this transition to optimization because the patient needs to understand and own their individualized plan. With the speed at which medical information is changing you need to be educated in best practices by the time of your next checkup. I am sick of seeing doctors that are obese, not staying on top of developments of modern medicine, and spending less than 15 minutes with their patients on visits. It took me four years to find a PCP that I can trust. I trust him because on my first visit he educated me about statins, and we were able to improve my bloodwork to not be at risk of cardiovascular disease [prevention.] The internet is a hotspot for misinformation, but if you have a doctor you can trust and have great resources you can read then together you can make an individualized medical plan that is nuanced and tailored to your needs. The excellent news is the bulk of prevention and education interventions are close to free of cost. The plan typically is not as sexy as we like to think it is. Attia’s five pillars of optimization of healthspan are exercise, sleep, nutrition, mental health, and supplementation. Returning home from Yale to find his father on his deathbed and his beloved Pulaski County burned to the ground amidst the Revolution, Cooper would be elected to county leadership at age 24, famously responding to a legal requirement that he evict the impoverished by personally paying their debts, earning the moniker “the poor man’s judge” as he emerged as a major figure in post-Revolutionary reconciliation in Kentucky. Breckinridge: The only member of the Liberty League at the fore of presidential consideration, 66 year old New York Congressman Henry Skillman Breckinridge ran alongside Al Capone in 1936 in the campaign that doomed the Commonwealth alliance, but has reinvented his career since by working to ally Federalist and Liberty League causes against La Follette and serving as the organization’s House leader. Advocating a heavily internationalist vision in line somewhere between that of Cooper and Luce, Breckinridge’s commitment to small government classical liberalism and a strict construction of the constitution has made him the favorite of Liberty League loyalists and some party conservatives. However, it is considered unlikely for a Liberty League member to win outright due to Progressive-Federalists comprising a majority of convention delegates. Eleanor Butler Roosevelt: 63 year old former President Eleanor Butler Roosevelt was promoted for the nomination for months by her former counsel turned the “voice of impeachment,” Richard Nixon, who has noted that her re-election would have stopped the rise of fascism in its tracks. However, content with retirement, the writing of her memoirs, and the promotion of Nixon’s career, Roosevelt has categorically refused to seek the presidency. Nonetheless, she is expected to receive votes on the convention’s opening ballot from admirers. Benjamin Muse: 54 year old former Virginia Governor Benjamin Muse won an upset victory in 1945 to be elected Governor against the campaigning of President La Follette. For this post, a draft "regret" is defined as "a player who turned out to be solid and contributed well but was unfortunately taken shortly or immediately before a superstar."
Example: The Spurs taking Devin Vassell over Tyrese Haliburton. Granted, it's still too early to call this a regret. Vassell is living up to the max contract he signed and is an incredible starte2nd option to Wembanyama. Vassell still has time to reach his All-Star potential.
However, Haliburton is already a 2x All-Star who could potentially take this Pacers team to the ECF. Furthermore, Vassell was drafted when the Spurs still had Murray, White, DeRozan, and Poeltl. One could argue Vassell was chosen for fit instead of potential.
All I can think of is Minny choosing Ricky Rubio over Steph Curry, Utah choosing Gordon Hayward over Paul George, and Cleveland/Chicago choosing Charles Oakley over Karl Malone.
Do not list any draft busts; this is not a post about them. The "regret" player must have at least had a worthwhile career.
Edit: I misspoke, Vassell is not on a max contract. It's 5 years, 135 mil. My mind is still stuck in 2015.

There is a longstanding theory in American political science that the presidency is cyclical, and presidents fall into one of four categories: reconstructive, articulative, preemptive, and disjunctive (though not necessarily always following the same ordecycle). Reconstructive presidents stand in opposition to the existing regime and find themselves able to "build anew" and reshape the body politic. Articulative presidents stand with the existing regime and seek to build upon the efforts of their reconstructive predecessors. Preemptive presidents stand opposed to the existing regime but find themselves frustrated in their attempts to effect change due to the strength of the current regime. Disjunctive presidents stand with a regime that is falling apart, and their efforts end up exposing the existing regime as unable to solve the problems of the day.

Now that the order is settled, I want to look at the Blazers assets, objectives, and 5 teams who are likely trade partners.

At 14, there will be a at least one or two swings (Saluan, Missi, Williams, Dadiet, etc.) as well as really solid players (Carter, McCain, Da Silva, Knecht) available depending on who falls vs. rises. The two second round picks give us the opportunity to move up into the late first or might be valuable enough to move up a couple slots from #7 or #14.
- Malcom Brogdon – Brogdon is in his final year for $22M. He is a 6MOTY caliber player which every single playoff team could use on their roster. So much so that, of all the teams remaining, he would play big minutes for all of them except Boston. He also has value to teams like Detroit who could use a veteran presence. His expiring deal gives the team flexibility to another team's reduce cap long term, trade at the deadline in a larger package, or look to extend on a more team friendly deal with bird rights. The general consensus is he is worth a mid to late first round pick, such as a lottery protected first round pick from a contender.
- Anfernee Simons – Simons has two years left of an AAV of $26M. Some fans think Simons is not worth much. I would disagree. Simons is one of a handful of players who generates elite on and off ball gravity in the NBA. Any team he goes to, he would transform their offensive spacing. We’ll talk about fits in a bit, but I would look for a Dejounte Murray like package; a high-end prospect and 2 good draft picks.
- Jerami Grant – Grant is owed 4 years with an AAV of $32M. NBA media types like to call that out as an overpay, but Grant’s salary as a percentage of cap will decrease through the length of the contract as the cap rises. Grant is another player who instantly improves a contender as a third option. I would aim for at least one good first round pick, a decent prospect, and potentially a pick swap.
- Robert Williams III – Timelord is on a great contract – 2 years with an AAV of $12M. With his injury history, his value is hard to determine, but his contract makes it an easy trade piece. Steven Adams got 3 second round picks, so I think that is his floor. He is likely worth more to the Blazers than other teams at this juncture.
- Matisse Thybulle – Thybulle is another tradeable contract – 2 years with an AAV of $11M. The second year is a player option. I do not see him having negative value on that deal, but we are looking at 1-2 second round picks + a flier prospect.
- Jabari Walker – I like Jabari, but in the context of our rebuild, he is the odd man out. I think he might have some value in the league for a real future second.
- Dalano Banton – Similar to Jabari, he was a great find this year. With his performance, could be a good sweetener in a trade or be able to trade for a real future second round pick.
Not only are assets important, but the overall objectives of the offseason. The way I see it, here are the Blazers objectives:
- Get more high-end talent, trading up may help guarantee us getting the best players we can. We should also aim to get a high caliber player who has already shown flashes in the NBA on a rookie scale deal.
- Get more shooting, we should definitely keep at least one of Brogdon, Grant, or Simons. I am in favor of trading Simons as he has the most value, and Grant / Brogdon are essential to giving our young guys enough spacing to develop. I also highly value shooting in this draft for that reason. The more spacing we have; the more likely Scoot and Sharpe develop into dudes.
- Get under the luxury tax. There is a lot of consternation and clickbait discussion the salary situation. It is massively overblown – the bigger priority is to simply consolidate the roster down to 14 active players. If we kept our two current first round picks, and cut Jabari and Banton, our salary would be: $172.6M. The Luxury tax threshold is 171.3M, a difference of just $1.3M.
- Consolidate roster / draft picks. We have 14 players on the roster with 4 draft picks. We should aim to consolidate around more high-end talent.
- Get more picks in 2025 / 2026. These are great drafts, and we'll have a better idea of our needs next year.
- (Nice to have) Get the future first unlocked from the Bulls. There is no urgency on the Blazers part to part with the pick. There is a chance it never conveys into a first (silver lining of us being terrible!). If it does, it is outside the lottery, and we are a good team. That said, if there is an opportunity for us to trade a second round pick this year to get control of that pick back, it is not a bad move.
Philadelphia:
- Cap Space: Up to $65M.
- Draft Assets: #16, #41
- The 76ers can trade their 2024 first-round pick (16) starting the night of the draft. They also have the least favorable 2026 first from Oklahoma City, Houston (if 5-30) and the Clippers. They are owed an unprotected first from the Clippers in 2028 and have the right to swap firsts with LA in 2029 (if 4-30). In total, Philadelphia can trade up to five firsts starting in late June.
- Targets: Brogdon, Grant, RWIII
- Explainer: Philadelphia has a ton of cap space. They will likely make a run at George, LeBron, maybe Derozan, but if they strike out, they will want to look at the trade market. Grant feels like an ideal fit to pair with Maxey and Embiid. Brogdon is another option for them. This might be a good trade destination for Jabari and / or Banton, who can provide them with good depth to rebuild their roster on very team friendly contracts as sweeteners.
- Trades:
- Jerami Grant, Jabari Walker, Dalano Banton for #16, Least Favorable 2026 FRP, lottery protected 2030 FRP
- The Blazers get a pick this year, a pick next year, and a highly valuable first-round swap. To be honest, I have no idea the particulars here, but the point being is Grant for draft capital
- Malcom Brogdon for #16, 2027 second round from MIL, 2030 SRP from PHI.
- I could see us going for that least favorable 2026 FRP as well by including one or both our seconds.
- Jerami Grant, Jabari Walker, Dalano Banton for #16, Least Favorable 2026 FRP, lottery protected 2030 FRP
- Cap Space: Up to $66M.
- Draft Assets: #5, #53
- Detroit owes a first-round pick to New York that is top-12 protected in 2025, top-10 protected in 2026 and top-nine protected in 2027. The next available first-round pick the Pistons can trade is in 2029. They have no incoming first-round picks via trade. They have nine second-round picks available.
- Targets: Anfernee Simons, Malcom Brogdon
- Explainer: Detroit also has a ton of cap space, a lack of shooting, and a lack of veteran leadership. They could really use either Anfernee Simons or Malcom Brogdon. Simons is an ideal fit next to Cade to unlock the spacing Cade desperately needs. Detroit is also overhauling their front office, so who knows which players they value vs which they do not.
- Proposed Trades:
- Anfernee Simons & #14 for #5 and Ausar Thompson
- If the Pistons insist on keeping Ausar, Ivey is the player I would want. I would not include #14 in that scenario. Again, who knows how the new FO thinks about Ausar / Ivey.
- Malcom Brogdon & #7 for #5 and 2-3 SRP
- This trade assumes the Blazers have a target in mind at #5 they really want who might not make it to 7. Beyond that, the major benefit is giving the team substantially more cap and roster flexibility. It is possible we could include some real sweeteners, like Kris Murray, to move up from #14 to #5. We could also look to include #16 assuming we get it from PHI in a Grant trade. In that scenario, we would have to get one shooter like Risacher, Sheppard, or Knecht for one of those top 2 picks.

- Cap Space: Up to $35 million
- Draft Assets: #18, #47
- The Magic are one of seven teams that control their own first-round pick over the next seven years. They can also trade swap rights each year. The Nuggets owe the Magic a first-round pick. It is top-5 protected in 2025, 2026 and 2027. Orlando has the right to swap its 2026 first for the less favorable of Phoenix and Washington. Orlando has 12 second-round picks available.
- Targets: Anfernee Simons, Malcom Brogdon
- Explainer: Much has been made of Anfernee Simons to the Magic, and for good reason. Aside from him being from Orlando, much like with Cade, Simons would unlock Paolo and Franz in a real way. For the Blazers, the Magic’s major draft assets and young talent of Anthony Black and Jett Howard are enticing. Brogdon is another option here if the Magic are looking for a one-year player to give them veteran leadership and spacing with more long-term flexibility.
- Proposed Trades:
- Anfernee Simons, #40 for Anthony Black, #18, 2025 unprotected FRP, 2030 pick swap.
- Blazers get exactly what they are looking for, a major trade up in 2024, a high value prospect, a 2025 first, and a pick swap far into the future. Some do not think Black will fit with the Blazers, but that is a problem down the road. Let us see how he plays with our other core. Given how well Banton played, Black could be a much better version of him. Banton may also be a sweetener in the deal. Blazers could look to take on Cole Anthony’s contract as well to give the magic more cap flexibility. Another permutation could see RWII be swapped for WCJ or Thybulle.
- Malcom Brogdon, RWIII for a 2025 lottery protected FRP, WCJ.
- The Blazers accomplished two goals here. They get another FRP in 2025. While it may be lower in order, it is possible Orlando will take a small step back. Something in the late teens is very valuable in next year’s draft. We also gain cap flexibility, and swap RWIII for WCJ who have extremely similar contracts.
- Anfernee Simons, #40 for Anthony Black, #18, 2025 unprotected FRP, 2030 pick swap.
- Cap Space: Likely none.
- Draft Assets: #11
- The Bulls can trade their own 2024 first-round pick starting on the night of the draft. They owe a first-round pick to the Spurs that is top-10 protected in 2025 and top-8 protected in 2026 or 2027. They are owed a first-round pick from Portland that is top-14 protected over the next four years. If the first is not conveyed, the Trail Blazers will send a 2028 second. The Bulls have three second-round picks available.
- Targets: Jerami Grant, Malcom Brogdon, Matisse Thybulle, Deandre Ayton
- Explainer: The Bulls are looking to still be competitive enough to sell seats and be stuck in mediocrity. They are likely looking to build around Coby White. The Blazers have plenty of high-level role players which could be interesting. For the Blazers, they could target trading up from 14 to 11, targeting Pat Williams in a S&T, and getting that flexibility back as a Sweetener.
- Proposed Trades:

- The Bulls might really like someone at 34 and value it as a first-round pick value. If that is the case, and the Blazers are not as enamored with someone in that range, it is advantageous for both sides to resolve the pick now.
- Malcom Brogdon, #14 for Lonzo Ball, #11, rights to the Blazers pick back.
- Like the above trade, the Bulls might value bringing in Brogdon to improve their roster. All it costs them is dumping Lonzo’s contract, moving 3 spots back in the draft, and the Blazers pick back. Blazers could put in #40 as a sweetener.
- Patrick Williams S&T (5 years - ~$125M), Jevon Carter, Dalen Terry, for Jerami Grant
- This trade is a bit more complicated, but the framework is Patrick Williams for Jerami Grant. If the Blazers are high on Williams and the Bulls might not want to commit to him, the Bulls get an immediate upgrade to “win now.” The additional salary could come from a few different angles, but I would like to also like to get Dalen Terry or Julian Phillips as a sweetener. If Williams gets a bit more salary, then less salary filler is necessary. High risk, High reward for Blazers.

- Trade Exception: The Grizzlies have a $12.6 million dollar trade exception from the Steven Adams, which RWIII and Thybulle can fit into.

- The Grizzlies control their own first-round picks over the next seven years. They also have the right to swap their own 2026 first for the less favorable of Phoenix, Orlando, and Washington. The Grizzlies also have the right to swap their own 2030 first for the less favorable of the Suns and Wizards. Memphis has six second-round picks available.
- Targets: #7, RWIII, Matisse Thybulle
- Explainer: Memphis may be incentivized to trade-up a couple slots if they are enamored with Donovon Clingan (or another prospect) and he is there at #7. They also might be interested in trading back to #14 if they are more interested in a center available in that range, such as Missi, Edey, Ware, etc. I have a feeling this is a team that will target Edey given their history of valuing analytics and not caring as much about physical attributes.
