2024.05.20 06:18 UMBRACORVUS75 The Progenitor breadcrumb trail - Potential Story Arc

Details we knew BEFORE the HW3 Storyline:

So with all that being said, doesn’t this look like an ancient race had set the scene for younger civilisations to discover the Progenitor technology, be tested, and see if they could solve the riddle? And I’m making a big assumption here, but wouldn’t the Great Network of Hyperspace Gates lead to the next part of the test, or lead them to answers lost for millennia, which could be so many things:
-Who were the Progenitors? Where are they from? Do they still exist? What other A.I. constructs exist?

I personally think there is enough information above that could have set the foundation for HW3 to build upon.

2024.05.20 06:05 IENJOYCINEMA Wrongfully kicked out of Taco Bell

Celebrating my son’s birthday and graduation on Friday night so we decided to bring the family over to Taco Bell which we go to all the time and bring lots of business and overall a family vibe. It was my weekend with the kids and he was graduating 5th grade heading to middle school next year and I’m super proud of him. We were going to grab some food to go, and head over to watch the new Planet Apes movie. That was all until today they decided to get snippy with my family and speak down to my mother when we made a simple request. We were aware we had a bigger order coming thru, and first we gave them a call on our way over and let them know we would be coming inside to avoid clogging the drive thru line even tho that would be preferred by they screamed at us one time for waiting in the line with a big party so we decieded to play there rules tho even that didn’t seem to be enough. We then came inside and ordered for 17 of us (some of my crew members from BBTGG rolled with) , which I can understand being a lot of people but they weren’t busy at all and had plenty of staff working. Lots of young kids super excited and we were showing them the ropes on how to bring food in to theater. Much more affordable overall than concessions and drinks sodas candy hotdogs slushees nachos all that BS they overcharge for at theaters. We ordered $290 worth of food and sodas (keep in mind we filled the sodas up ourselves) but we let them know we completely understood if it would take some time. Out of the order, only 40% of it contained special requests. My son and I prefer extra onions while my mom enjoys extra tomatoes and beans on her burritos. A few other modifications with quesadillas and such but again not even half the order. The rest straight from the menu. I asked for an estimate and they said probably 20-25 minutes. That would have been a good estimate for how long it would take for us to finish our sodas, because we waited 47 minutes and received only part of our order. They specifically missed the request for extra tomatoes / beans on half of the burritos , giving us extra onions and beans on all burritos. While I wouldn’t mind keeping the burritos, my mother specially requested the extra tomatoes and beans, and my son was not wanting extra beams. It was turning into a fiasco and as mentioned a lot of other food had not been finished yet. We asked if we would be receiving the remaining burritos that were done incorrectly and they said it would take another 15 minutes. We had to be at the theater in 25 minutes. We asked if they could expedite and they said they had drive thru orders to complete? When we had ordered again 47 minutes earlier. Knowing we could Spare 10 minutes , miss the trailers, and have the food hot and ready to go for the movie wasn’t the worse case. We were being team players until my mother kindly asked again how long it would take. The employee threw turned to her and said “how about don’t order the whole menu and change it up next time”. Witihout hesitation I banged on the counter to break up the tension between the 2 and stop the argument. I knew my mom was going to snap. She was fuming at the disrespect. We then logically requested to get a refund on the part of the order that was done incorrectly, which unfortunately for them was a $100 mistake they weren’t willing to rectify. They gave us the bag of the rest of our food which we didn’t have time to check to make sure it was done write and then I asked them for the contact information and name of the GM as well as every single employee working. They refused to oblige and began pointing at the door to us saying “leave now or the police will be called”. So of course we left. Son and his friends were all bummed out but we surprised them with popcorn candy and sodas in the movie after we all finished the Bell. Amazing movie, terrible experience at Taco Bell. Has anyone else experienced this? I know they’re a corporation but we’re a small enough town here in Billings to have a community vibe even at fast food restaurants. I go to this location often, I give them my business and refer it to all my colleagues / crew. Love this city with all my heart but this one hurt. Much love to everyone happy Sunday.

GM Locked Me Out Of Interacting With Other Players Because I Got Confused

I'm a player in a tabletop RPG campaign and I just wanted to vent about this session. The GM uses a "rules light" homebrew system and it's his homebrew world as well. He's been doing this campaign for years now, but I just joined through a mutual friend after another player left recently.
When I joined the campaign, the GM had told me he wanted me to be from a particular country as a prince, and since it was his homebrewed world, I went with it. The country I'm a prince of is a massive empire that has conquered many lands. I wanted to be a morally good character so I made up a backstory where my prince had a secret romance with a commoner so it gave me more empathy and understanding than my other royal peers would have. Then in session 1, he had the commoner immediately break up with me since the players were all leaving the city session 1.
Several sessions later, there is a carnival being hosted in the empire and all the players are attending. The players split up and my part began with my character watching as a mentally handicap child was put in the dunk tank and was being dunked against his will. So I had my character help the child and stop the game (This isn't relevant to the larger story but I thought it was really weird). Then I am told I have to go to the "main stage" which is just a strip club seemingly. And of course, walking around topless serving drinks is my character's commoner love interest that I made in session 0. The GM laughs a bit and comments, "Isn't it funny? Look at what your ex has to do without you." I have my character give her the shirt off his back and we go to the outskirts of the carnival to find a quiet place to talk, but then the carnival was ambushed by some enemies as arrows and fire rained down on the parade.
Suddenly, my character and his ex are teleported back to the main stage and the GM starts jumping back and forth between all the player characters asking what we want to do without any sort of initiative and if we don't respond quickly enough he skips to another player. I ask, "What direction are the arrows coming from?" GM, "You can't tell". "Which direction to the palace?" I ask. "You don't know," he tells me. I'm honestly genuinely confused about what to do here and my mind goes blank, but then the GM has my bodyguard (a Brienne of Tarth type) tell me to follow her so I do. As he cuts back and forth, another player loses his mom in the chaos, I tell GM, "I want to help him find his mom." "You can't see him" GM tells me. Then I ended up surrounded by 12 ambushers in the "Pleasure Gardens". GM asked what I would do. I say since the carnival is burning, I look for a piece of wood on fire and since it's the pleasure gardens maybe there's some oil I can spill and light on fire to separate myself, my bodyguard, and ex who are all with me from the ambushers. He tells me there's no oil and then I'm held down by the men. I tried to escape, but he says I failed (he just did a dice roll behind his screen and didn't tell me the results). I am then hogtied by the ambushers with my bodyguard and ex and thrown in a cart. Meanwhile, the other two players have stolen a cart and are escaping. I try to do a goofy wave as my character is tied up towards my companions and he just says, the carts never pass each other so the other players don't see you. Before the session ends he tells me my bodyguard is dead.
After the session, I think my body language showed I was a bit bummed. So GM pipes in, "You want to know why you failed that encounter?" He proceeded to tell me it was because I followed my bodyguard and there was no way a woman could have protected me and I needed to make the choice instead. Some of the other players chimed in and said it was surprising my bodyguard failed since in the lore she was a 20-year veteran who survived "The Great War". The GM keeps defending his choice. Then he started making self-deprecating jokes about how he just sucks then and he's the worst GM ever until the other players all reassure him it's fine. I kind of just sat there shell-shocked.
His system reduces dice rolls to a rarity and he does them all himself as a "way to keep tension". I'm honestly more about hanging out with my friends than judging the quality of any campaign or system but this was my first "combat" of any sort in the campaign and I just felt so helpless in this system and it was frustrating. Plus there are no insight or persuasion rolls, just what the GM claims "my character would know" and "how his NPCs would act". So I'm not sure how I was supposed to handle this encounter. Being a GM myself, I thought he was using my bodyguard character to get me back on track, but I thought wrong. I honestly wouldn't have minded if he was just railroading me for a plot point, but him trying to manipulate me and saying his hands were tied when he essentially locked me out of interacting with the other players for the rest of the session is what bothers me the most.
Edit: Changed gaslighting to manipulating since I was using the term wrong and don't want to dilute it's meaning.
Update: GM Defends Style And Told Me He Owns My Character March 20, 2024
This is an update from my post a couple of weeks ago.
One of my friends in the group reached out to me and asked me to not leave the group. He told me there were only 2 sessions left and asked me to stick around as a favor to him. I told him I'd reach out to GM and see if we could get on the same page. So I texted the GM and told him I wanted to talk because I had some concerns after the way everything went down last session. He was down and we talked on the phone a couple of days later. To my surprise, the first thing he did was profusely apologize. I hadn't been responding in our group chat, partly because I was mad and partly because my partner had a death in her family. I guess me not responding caused him to dwell on the last session a bunch. He said he was going to retcon my bodyguard's death and keep her alive. I even told him that the treatment of women in the campaign was bad and that it was making the story worse, he told me that it is something that he can work on being better about too. I was surprised, but all this gave me a lot of optimism for this conversation.
I was honest and I told him that his homebrew system is very difficult for me since I don't have a character sheet. So my character doesn't have abilities, he doesn't level up, and I can't do things like roll investigate or perception rolls which makes it hard for me to make informed decisions. I told him it makes me very risk adverse because I don't have things like HP to even know if I'm in danger. He responded to this by telling me I shouldn't worry about that because his GM style rewards me if I roleplay well enough. He went on to say he hates systems with things like perception rolls because that's "Not how real life works".
I also lamented the fact that I also don't get to interact with the other players much. I didn't mention this in my first post, but he plays with all of us in a Discord call but he only plays with us one at a time, and the two of us who aren't playing are expected to listen and record notable quotes for his notes. He'll switch between characters where each player gets 2-3 "scenes" in a 3 hour session. He has our characters all spread out across the country Game of Thrones style and I've only gotten to play with another player in 2 sessions so far. This was also why that carnival scene was so frustrating because all 3 players were finally in the same place and we were trying to find each other and he just kept saying, "You don't see them".
He told me that he doesn't do party-based adventures because you can't get character growth that way. I pushed back and said I've seen awesome character growth in traditional DnD style games in the past, it just depends on the group. I also said he's just making things harder for himself by trying to run three campaigns instead of one. And if we don't have character sheets and aren't in a party then this is all more dramatic improv than a tabletop RPG.
He responded by saying his way is better because it creates a real story and that I should be happy because he made me the main character. (I guess that is what me being the prince means?) He then went on a rant about how much he loves the game world he created and he's very grateful that our characters brought it to life. But then he says that since it's his world, he feels like he owns our characters now and that after the campaign he wants us all to sign off on him using the characters to write books and a screenplay. And if we don't he'll just change their names and do it anyway. He then thanks me and tells me that this campaign is the main thing that has been stopping him from self-harm and going to dark places. Then he says he has to go and he rushes to hang up before I can say anything else.
I'm dumbfounded after that rapid-fire series of bombshells. I've known since the first few sessions that this was barely a TTRPG, but I got to hang out with my friends so I didn't care what it was. It was nice to hang out with old friends a couple times each month. Then the story got weird, and there was so much misogyny, and then I had the horrible session that caused my original post. Then in this conversation, he throws up even more red flags that I'm not blind to, but he is also planting a seed that he may harm himself without the campaign which is not something I want on my conscience. I'm just exhausted at this point.
TLDR: GM says that abilities and parties make TTRPGs worse and he wants to use our characters to write books/movies after the campaign because he owns them since we're playing in his world. He says he may fall back to self-harm without the campaign, making me feel guilty for wanting to leave.

I ended up doing one more session for the finale. There was some drama during that session and when I mentioned that I didn't want to play in the next season of the campaign. I wasn't sure if I wanted to post about it again. I might still, but I think I want to take some time and reflect on everything.

[Final Update] Moving On From My Toxic DM And Losing A Friend In The Process
This will hopefully be my last post on this sub for a long time, but I’ve been using this place to vent about my toxic situation for a while so I figured I might as well post how everything concluded and what happened when I left. I’m going to reflect on everything and recap the important parts so no one has to read 3 posts.
It all started when I decided to start DMing to keep in touch with some college friends after graduation. During my first campaign, one of the players, Pirate, asked if his friend, Colorado, could join. I didn't really know Colorado, but I figured, "the more, the merrier."
Colorado had some issues early on, giving unsolicited advice to everyone on how to play and viewing newer or shy players as “side characters”. However, he frequently missed sessions, only showing up for less than half of them for the first few years so nothing came to a head early on. Then, Colorado decided he wanted to bring back his tabletop campaign from his college days and started trying to recruit players after my sessions. Pirate suggested I join the campaign, promising that Colorado was a better DM than player. Since I had been the Forever DM up to that point, I agreed to give it a go.
I created a character who was part of the royal family but enjoyed interacting with commoners in the slums, even having a secret girlfriend from that background. After that, Colorado also started hitting me up to help with the campaign. I ended up photoshopping character art for a bunch of his NPCs and I even drew his world map for him. I didn't mind doing it, as I do that kind of stuff for fun.
For our first session, Colorado had already created character sheets for us based on our backstories, but only he could see them. Colorado would also roll all the dice himself so “all we had to focus on is roleplaying”. We played one on one in different "scenes" that could last around 30 minutes to an hour each. We usually had around 2 to 4 scenes per session, depending on what Colorado thought was important. During the game, Colorado asked us to write down quotes from him and the other players when it wasn't our turn.
I had to wait for well over an hour before I could finally play. My first session was on rails. I mostly just had to repeat after Colorado during a ceremony. Afterwards, I got to sneak out of the castle and meet with my commoner girlfriend, but Colorado immediately had her break up with me. Then I was told that I had to leave the city. I was essentially locked out of my hanging out in the slums and commoner girlfriend subplots. NPCs generally disliked my morally good character, especially my sister who was depicted as purely evil towards me. Despite my efforts to mend the relationship, she never changed her mind and Colorado never rolled any dice to determine that. Later Colorado revealed to me the character was based on his ex-girlfriend, who was originally intended to be the player character from my country before they broke up.
Eventually, I finally got to interact with another player, Soldier, who I had really good chemistry with and we had a really fun scene. Which Colorado exclaimed, “See! This is why I keep you apart. It makes these moments so much more epic!” But I’m just thinking that if we were in a party, every session could be this epic.
Then Colorado got busy. He went to some alternative medicine nature retreat and didn’t pay his rent the whole time he was gone so he got evicted. At that point, the campaign went on hiatus as people got busy and Colorado was couch hopping. It was during that time I considered the campaign over and made my first post because I thought it fit the sub. Then a year after the last session, Colorado started trying to organize the group to do 3 more sessions to finish the campaign. I just ghosted the group chat for a while, but Pirate’s roommate is a player in the campaign I DM so Pirate started hopping on the call asking me to come back for the finale. Pirate told me that it would be different this time because all of our characters were going to meet up for the finale and he really wanted to play with me. I naively agreed to give the game a second chance.
The first of those three sessions led to this post and this follow up.
[TLDR - I never got to meet up with the other characters. Colorado made my ex a stripper and I was captured by invaders with no dice rolls to prevent it. I had a conversation with him about my concerns after the last session. He apologized and agreed to make changes saying he needed the campaign for his mental health.]
Colorado decided to have a single super finale session, which I reluctantly attended because of sunk cost fallacy. I was imprisoned, beaten and whipped, separated from my girlfriend and recently resurrected bodyguard. A deus-ex ninja offered to help me escape, but I wanted to save all the prisoners. So I helped the commoners escape with the ninja before saving my girlfriend. My bodyguard got captured, but I made sure my girlfriend escaped and then I went to save my bodyguard because I wasn’t letting her die after she just got resurrected. I tried to find my bodyguard but every door was locked and I was forced into a long one on one fight with a guard that would make John Carpenter blush. I lost the fight due to an unknown -2 modifier on my fighting rolls, leading to my re-imprisonment.
Pirate tried to board a boat to reach my location, but was unsuccessful. Colorado informed him that the sailors refused to let him on the ship because they didn't like his tone. Fortunately, Soldier saved me and we agreed to stop the big bad and rescue my bodyguard together. With a squad of Soldier's peers, we pursued the big bad into the woods. Without any rolls, all the other soldiers were sniped by archers.
Finally, the two of us reached the clearing where the big bad and his followers were. We were outnumbered about 30-2. My bodyguard and the other commoners were tied to a tree. Soldier was the same race as the villain so he approached while I stayed hidden. He delivered an awesome passionate speech against the big bad's actions saying that it wasn’t what their ancestors would want. I’m sitting there waiting and hoping for a persuasion roll… and nothing. Colorado says the big bad doesn’t change his mind and he sets the tree on fire, causing my bodyguard and the commoners to burn to death. Soldier and I retreated into the woods to end the campaign.
Pirate was supposed to have a scene after us, but he fell asleep because it was past 1am. Colorado kept trying to call Pirate on the phone. I joke, “Hey, we’re old now, being up past midnight isn’t as easy as it used to.” To which Colorado replies, “I just thought Pirate had more respect for me than this.” The Discord call becomes quiet and after Colorado starts focusing on Soldier and I. He wants to know why we’re not discussing the ending more. I remarked that it was a bit of a downer and I’m tired. Then Colorado starts spiraling, saying that RPGs are just another medium that he failed at just like film and music. HE STARTS CRYING and hangs up from the Discord call. Soldier and I stayed on and had a short “That was awkward” conversation. I don’t know Soldier well so I didn’t say much about my grievances with the campaign and eventually we ended up just talking about Baldur’s Gate 3 for an hour.
The next day, I wake up to a barrage of texts from Colorado apologizing, mansplaining how hard it is to be a DM as if I’ve never done it myself. He then starts sending me messages with all his ideas for my character in the next season and how he promises I’ll have more freedom next time. I wouldn’t understand, but he NEEDED to do the prison sequence and my bodyguard to die for my character growth, but next season will be different. I tell him I’m not doing another season. Colorado replies saying that he thought I’d say that because Pirate (who was apparently not sleeping) told him Soldier and I were bitching about the campaign after the session. Colorado said that once I get over it, we can start talking about season 3. I reaffirmed my stance. Then Colorado texts me one last time and asks if I’ll still make his maps and character art even if I don’t play. I said no again.
It's been two months since I last heard from Colorado or Pirate. We used to play games and talk about pro wrestling all the time, but now there's been no contact. A lot of the comments on my posts helped me realize I was prioritizing Colorado’s mental health over my own and I felt like it was my responsibility to support his campaign because he constantly referenced how important it was to his mental health. Intentional or not, he preyed upon my empathy. I’m not his Giving Tree and I shouldn’t be left a stump for a campaign where he doesn’t even want us to affect the world.
I sometimes worry Pirate is going through a similar situation to me, but for a longer period of time. Pirate introduced me to Colorado, and he's really loyal to him. I think that slowed down my exit from the group because I trusted Pirate to be my friend as well. I remember opening up to Pirate about a panic attack I had while Colorado was spiraling one day, and he just shrugged it off as me being dramatic. It's frustrating. I want both of them to be happy, but I can't make that happen for them, especially if it comes at the expense of my own well-being.
I ended up venting to some of my irl friends and they really supported and listened to me which is why I didn’t feel a need to vent here. I learned a lot about what not to do when DMing from this campaign and it made me reevaluate my approach to playing RPGs. Now I'm in a group with my irl friends and it's a blast. I can relax and just have fun playing again.
TLDR - I started DMing to stay connected with college friends who were scattered across the country. One player, Pirate, introduced me to Colorado, who eventually took over as the DM. Colorado had some unconventional methods, such as not using character sheets and controlling all the dice rolls. The game became focused on his storyline and my character had limited agency. Despite this, I gave the campaign a second chance. In the final session, things went poorly, and Colorado had a breakdown. Despite his apologies and promises for the next season, I decided not to continue playing. I have not heard from Colorado or Pirate since. I now play with my real-life friends and it's much more enjoyable.

Glad you're doing better. That does sound like quite a toxic situation.
If I've understood it right, the stuff with Pirate 'falling asleep' but actually listening in to you and Soldier talking feels like a massive red flag to me. I understand worrying about him since you were/felt like you were friends, but if he's enabling Colorado with that sort of stuff then it's probably best to move on.
OOP
Yeah even the best case would be that Pirate woke up after Colorado left the call and just overheard Soldier and me talking without us realizing because his mic was muted and we assumed he had passed out and then he snitched after which is still a bad look tbh. I had been distancing myself from Pirate since he invalidated my panic attack prior to this. It's just hard to be vulnerable with someone again after that.

2024.05.20 05:00 golden_boy I want to get properly into tea - where do I go tea shopping?

I'm looking to properly climb into a rabbit hole on tea. I'm already a big pourover guy but not every moment is a coffee moment. I'm talking jasmine tea, I'm talking weird herbals, I'm talking whatever obscure knowledge is going to help me make a bangin cup of tea and will get my pushing up my glasses like a know-it-all scumbag every time I see tea served by people who aren't knowledgeable about it. I'm talking about being the guy in the ProZD clip that coffee jokes about before they go looking for coffee grown an exact altitute in a specific mountain range that naturally tastes like blueberries with a hint of goat liver if you pulverize the coffee cherries, strain out the fleshy parts, and leave the beans to ferment in the goop for 15 days, 7 hours and 32 minutes before they take one sip and pour it out if they taste that the coffee grounds were 3 microns too small on average.
Help bury me in the tea rabbit hole and leave me there.
I'm located near Belltown, I'd ideally want to find a place I can get to by bus.

2024.05.20 04:36 Devigrrl Philips LatteGo 5400, disappointed newbie asking about other brands

Hi! We recently bought a Philips LatteGo 5400 superautomatic coffee machine. I’ve had a Starbucks Athena Barista from back in the day, & more recently a DeLonghi Dedicated Deluxe, which died during the pandemic. I made really good drinks on the Athena & decent drinks on the Dedica, but the Dedica died during the pandemic. We thought maybe a superautomatic would be fun & save my getting-older hands a bit of work.
So far, the Philips is underwhelming. The espresso produced is a bit flat, & maybe watery? It’s not tasty & full-bodied. IDK if that’s b/c it dispenses an 11-gram dose of espresso as opposed to other machines, if it’s b/c the Philips‘ automatic grinder doesn’t grind as fine as my burr grinder or if we just haven’t found the magic combination of buttons & beans to produce a decent espresso.
The rinsing before & after every drink is okay, but when another drink then begins to brew, a little bit of water goes into the cup before espresso or milk.
The milk drinks I’ve made have produced okay foam, but obviously part of it being all automated is that there isn’t much variance. It’s..one size of foam. That’s it.
I’m going to try again tomorrow with beans that are definitely espresso roast, in cause my regular medium-dark roast isn’t robust enough.
Does anyone else have a Philips LatteGo 5400 who likes it? Are there setting nuances we haven’t gotten to yet?
& also, if you have a different superautomatic - or not, why limit ourselves - espresso/coffee drinks machine that you love, what is it, & why do you love it? We’re still in the return period for the LatteGo so..your input is appreciated, & TYSM in advance. I’m also Googling reviews/watching videos

2024.05.20 04:27 Rhaynebow I reached my Stopping Point in Winds of Anthos! Here are my final thoughts! (Long read and language warning)

I reached my Stopping Point in Winds of Anthos! Here are my final thoughts! (Long read and language warning)
I overall had a fine time with this game. I've gotten my kid fully-grown, did the family outing event and grew everything but the giant crops because I don't have the patience to grow those. Every Harvest Fruit has been eaten and most of my tools upgraded.
Forging for stuff was probably my favorite thing to do because it felt great to run around on my horse (or dinosaur), picking up truffles, stopping to pick fruits and nuts off trees and fishing. I felt like a genuine explorer!
That said, I didn't like being responsible for all of bitch work in the villages. The word "materials" has been cursed by this game. Most of these towns are surrounded by trees and have mines a few feet away, why can't they just cut down their own trees?
And don't get me STARTED on the high quality lumber. You would assume you could obtain that stuff through an upgraded axe, but NNNNNNOPE, you can only occasionally get that stuff by winning contests, otherwise you'll have to buy it from the shop in Herbstburg for like, 2700g A PIECE. Yes, you can ALSO craft it, but you need to grow the rarer flowers as part of their recipe (a recipe you have to unlock the option to buy). And most of the time, any building or storyline quest that needs the high quality lumber needs quite a bit of it.
The clothing options are sadly quite limited, as cute as they are. And unlike One World, there's no all-weather clothing, so if I wanted to go to the desert, I'd have to ditch my winter outfit, which sucks because I love the winter clothes. (You can also just go to the desert at night because it becomes a cold weather climate at night).
Getting feed is a pain in the ass because only high quality fodder corn gets you the best crop-fodder ratio. It's easier to just cut the obnoxious pasture of weeds in Lectenbury to get you 29 bushels of fodder.
A few of the contests in the game felt straight up broken or at least rigged. The Advanced Equestrian Challenge race could easily be lost by your opponents pushing you out of the way as your character gets shoved around so easily. Each race has these stupidly narrow checkpoint fences that you HAVE to run through, but the game is so slippery, I've lost races thanks to Judy pushing me outside of them (She's lucky she was practically my son's wet nurse). The carrots are pointless too because they just make you risk missing the checkpoint even more.
Both of the "Rush" contests; the Fish Frenzy and Mining Meet give you too little time to get to the spots where you can actually do the thing you're trying to win the most points at. For the Fish Frenzy, you can only fish from certain spots in Lilikila, so you'll lose time just running to a dock. Most of your time in the Mining Meet will be spent trying to avoid pitfalls, smashing boulders to reach gem nodes and digging for the stairs.
The Anthos Expo is a legitimate challenge though, as you have to make sure your crops get as many nutrients as possible. Every 8th day of the month, which is 2 days before the Expo, there's a special moon that shines, giving a boost to your crops. The Tiny Goddess will tell you the theme for the Expo a few days before the 8th, so you'll have to calculate which crops to grow and when so their quality can be boosted by the moon. This is especially important with fast growing crops like turnips as they tend to not take fertilizer well thanks to how fast they grow. Unfortunately, winning the Anthos Expo is based on the star rank of your crops, dishes and animals. I've submitted giant crops and still lost because it only had 1 star. The only way to get 2 star crops is by growing a shit ton of them until you've reached the highest rank for that crop. And even then, a 2 star isn't guaranteed, moonlight and all of that magic crap. I gave up on winning the Advanced Expo, the rewards for the contests tend to be extremely weak if they're not the high quality lumber, typically a single gem or a bag of strawberry seeds.
As is the case for Natsume, their marriage candidates look great, but have the personalities of cardboard. What they're introduced doing is basically all that they are and what they'll talk about. Judy only talks about animals, Neil only talks about cooking, Kaimana only talks about fishing tackle, Aolani only talks about fish. And they tend to suffer from Spot the Main Character Syndrome as the NPCS are painfully under-designed compared to them. Your introduction to Nikolai is particularly hilarious because you walk into the clinic and see the plain Dolph in his gray sweater and behind him is this Emo Gakupo reading a book behind him.
Sometimes it's the opposite and they look TOO plain. Westley and Jacques look virtually the same and although I married Arnold, he looks more like the younger brother of a marriage candidate than a candidate himself. But he seemed like the type of overworking guy that could only be stopped by a kiss, so I picked him over Nikolai, Kaimana, and Judy.
Raising our kid Legato (because music) was a struggle, although it makes having kids in a farm sim actually feel like a challenge. The baby will be wolfing down milk for 3 seasons straight, so do Judy's requests often as she'll give you milk as a reward. Feed the little blob around 3-4 times a day and hopefully Tiny won't pester you.
WARNING: I encountered a glitch where while I was in the middle of charging my sickle to cut some weeds, Tiny alerted me that my baby needed me. I ended up stuck with my charging circle still around me, but I was no longer holding my sickle. I was unable to move nor pause the game to warp around, so I had to close the game entirely.
One really interesting thing I noticed though is that aside from two instances, your kid is referred to with gender neutral pronouns. At no point in the game was Legato called our son, not even in his character bio. He's simply our child and even the family outing events have the NPCs call him a child.
The game may have been rough around the edges, but I had a lot of fun with what worked. The world was huge, with lots of nooks and crannies to fish, forage, farm and tame. Sunsets were glowing and I was genuinely impressed by the night sky, the northern lights appearing every time. New seasons meant tides changing, which meant more areas to explore. Mining just a bit longer could lead you to underground ponds with rare fish. Storylines asking for hard-to-find materials were annoying, but also made the game last longer. Your stamina would deplete as you walked, but it was all the more reason to pace yourself. Explore a bit more everyday so you could find Harvest Fruit and boost your energy. Learn to cook for more replenishing meals, meaning learning how to grow better crops. Experimenting with crop locations so you can collect all of the mutations.
The length and size of the game leaves you with a sense of accomplishment. Things like crop mutations, forging, taming animals, fishing and mining take just long enough that you feel great when it's done.
Wrap up time.
FAVORITE VILLAGE: Lectenbury. Easy to navigate.
LEAST FAVORITE VILLAGE: Tie between Herbstburg and Lilikila. Both were hard to remember the location of certain stores.
FAVORITE FARM LOCATION: Herbstberg. Far from town, but the land is just big enough for crops and animals.(I'm currently at the Goddess Farm though because I'm the Supreme Leader fite me)
FAVORITE BACHELORETTE: Judy
FAVORITE BACHELOR: Kaimana for his looks. But he was all about that (sea)bass, so I ultimately dumped him
HOURS LOST TO THE WINDS OF ANTHOS: 186
Bye-bye!

2024.05.20 04:08 notsocloverusername Hot take: The issues with LO come from how we interpret the actual myth

Aside from it not being a true retelling I always think of it as a modern AU. But we (we as in modern folk, lovers of fantasy, myth etc) look at the myth differently than what the actual myth says and what it represents.
We look at only the lovers point of view like power house king and queen who actually love each other and treat each other like equals. Because that was a huge part of the myth is that Hades promised/gave equal rule of the Underworld to Persephone and didn’t SA her (I will say though it is called the R@pe of Persephone but r@pe meant more kidnapping back then and not how we use it today) AND depending on which version of the myth she either are the seeds willingly or he gave them to her without saying “hey you’ll be tied to the underworld if you eat these. Like you can’t leave” (which is another thing in and of itself. She only ate them after Hades offered her equal rule so she would know right? Idk depends on which version you read)
ANYWAY, it’s okay for people to look at it that way ( I know I do) and people are also a sucker for dark broody man is in love with sun shine flower girl.
But there’s a whole other side to the myth that I think other Redditors touched on in comments or other posts is that Demeter LOST her daughter. Well technically Persephone father gave her to Hades and didn’t really tell that to Demeter or Persephone because that’s what they did in Ancient Greece (which Rachel couldn’t have done LO with the issue of inc3st) but in the Hymn of Demeter where it talks about her rage and anger for losing her daughter and doing everything in her power to get her back. Is the other part of the myth which is empowering to woman at the time and still is. But that’s where the issue in modern retellings of the hades/Persephone come in. In almost every retelling or meme or something of this myth Demeter is depicted as the bitter and angry mother in law and helicopter parent to Persephone which kind of undermines the original myth a little bit.
So because of that I think it’s hard to find a balance in what you want to highlight in retellings or au’s of the myth which is where LO and other retellings/AU’s have issues with.
I might edit this tomorrow because this was messy lol but wanted to get my thought out there

Backstory

“There is no innovation and creativity without failure.” ***Brené Brown*
Taylor Bennett Armstrong was born into a creatively vibrant family. His father, Benjamin Armstrong, was a dedicated artist who often spent hours in his studio, painting and sculpting. Benjamin's work was deeply inspired by classical art, and his studio was filled with references to mythological themes and ancient techniques. This environment planted the seeds of creativity in Taylor from a very young age.
Taylor’s biological mother was Techne, the goddess of art, craft, and invention, but he had no knowledge of her divine heritage. His mother left shortly after his birth, leaving Benjamin to raise Taylor on his own. Despite the absence of his mother, Taylor's early childhood was filled with love and encouragement from his father.
When Taylor was five, Benjamin met Eliza, a talented graphic designer, at an art exhibit. They quickly bonded over their shared love for art and soon married. Eliza embraced Taylor as her own, though she struggled to understand his unique, often chaotic way of thinking and creating.
Even as a young child, Taylor showed remarkable intelligence and creativity. By the age of six, he was building simple machines and drawing intricate designs. His father was both amazed and slightly concerned when Taylor began to take apart household appliances to understand how they worked. While Benjamin encouraged his son's curiosity, Eliza worried about the constant mess and occasional accidents that resulted from Taylor's experiments.
Taylor’s half-sister, Rachel, was born when he was five. She looked up to her big brother with admiration, often following him around and watching as he created his various inventions. Despite the occasional mishap, Taylor and Rachel shared a close bond, with Taylor frequently making small toys and gadgets to entertain her.
School was both a blessing and a curse for Taylor. His intelligence allowed him to excel academically, but his unique way of thinking and his constant tinkering often got him into trouble. Teachers labeled him a "problem child" due to his inability to sit still and follow conventional methods. Taylor's inventions occasionally caused disruptions, further cementing his reputation.
Socially, Taylor found it hard to connect with his peers. His enthusiasm and intelligence often intimidated other children, and he was frequently taken advantage of by classmates who used him to boost their own grades. These experiences left Taylor feeling lonely and self-conscious about his naivety, although he never let it dampen his cheerful spirit.
Taylor's life took a dramatic turn when he was 15 years old. One day, while working on a particularly ambitious project in his makeshift workshop, he was visited by Oleander, a satyr sent by Camp Half-Blood. Oleander had been observing Taylor for some time, noting his extraordinary abilities and his connection to the divine.
Oleander revealed to Taylor the truth about his mother, Techne, and his demigod heritage. At first, Taylor was skeptical, thinking it was some sort of elaborate joke or fantasy. However, Oleander's ability to demonstrate his satyr powers and his deep knowledge of Taylor's unexplained talents eventually convinced him.
Explaining the situation to his family was a challenge. Benjamin, who had always suspected that there was something special about Taylor, took the news in stride. Eliza, though worried and confused, ultimately supported the decision, understanding that Camp Half-Blood could provide Taylor with the guidance he needed. Rachel was both excited and scared for her brother, worried about the dangers he might face and she would miss him.
Thankfully, despite the huge distance he and Oleander had to travel from Toronto to Long Island went calmly, for the most part, with not many delays or monsters attacking them.
Well, at least until they reached New York. After that, the whole “calm journey” was out the window. It almost seemed like all the monsters decided to wait until they were close to their destination to suddenly appear one after the other. First they had to somehow avoid a cyclops. Then they were attacked by dracanaea. And finally, they were chased by harpies until they crossed the border of Camp Half-Blood.
By some miracle, they were still alive.
What a way to be introduced to demigod life.

Present Day

“Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun” Mary Lou Cook
Taylor's arrival at Campbell Half-Blood was… something, alright.
You know, being chased by monsters from New York to Long Island, passing out in between attacks and then waking up in the Medic Cabin feeling like you've been hit by a truck and maimed by a cat at the same time was, in short, not fun. It also didn't help the fact that he had to stay in bed to get treated for what, hours. Which, for someone like Taylor, was absolute torture. Good for him then that demigods, apparently, had magic healing and he didn't have to stay for days instead. At least Oleander was around to explain every detail about the world he's been thrust into now that he was out of danger. And as a plus, he was also claimed, so yay! He had no clue who Techne was, but he was sure he would learn soon enough.
So, what does Taylor do after getting patched up? Does he wait and rest for a bit just to make sure everything is okay with him? Does he stop for a moment to process everything that has happened to him in the last 24 hours?
No! Of course not! This is Taylor, after all. Him staying put for more than 10 minutes would be a miracle already.
Instead, he just went off on his own to see what this Camp Half-Blood was all about. He just had to get to his cabin first, which would be relatively easy with Oleander's instructions, and then he could explore this place to his heart's content!
Hopefully, Camp Half-Blood would be ready for the chaotic force Taylor would prove to be.
[OOC: Hello, everyone! Say hello to my new character, Taylor! Feel free to interact with him literally anywhere at Camp, he's probably going to be there at some point anyway lmao. Thanks for reading;)]

2024.05.20 04:03 foundsolace Tips for the anti inflammatory diet?

I’ve had HS for the better part of the past ten years and after a new in infection in an area I’ve never had problems before (the middle of my chest) and a pilonidal cyst infection, my dermatologist asked me if I’ve done the diet yet to figure out what I’m eating that could be causing/exacerbating flares. I’ve started the diet this past week and it’s going well, but the problem I have is snacks. I get seriously hungry everyday between meals and have no idea what snacks I can eat that are both filling and won’t break the diet.
Do you guys have any suggestions or tips?
for reference, these are all the things i’m cutting out: - red meat - processed meats - commercial baked goods - bread and pasta made with white flour - deep-fried foods - foods that are high in added sugar - sugar-sweetened beverages - trans fats - saturated fats - dairy - nightshade vegetables (tomatoes, eggplants, potatoes, and peppers) - legumes (beans, lentils, peas) - lemons - sodium - garlic - spicy foods - gluten - seeds and seed oils

2024.05.20 03:21 PolkaGold PGOLD PolkaGold

Polkagold: The Premier Digital Reserve Asset for Polkadot
In a visionary interview on 06/11/2023, Dr. Gavin Wood, the co-founder of Polkadot, expressed his desire to see the Polkadot Treasury hold assets beyond the Polkadot ecosystem, diversifying its portfolio. This sparked the idea of creating a digital commodity akin to gold, a reserve asset that the Polkadot Treasury could own, yet hosted on an entirely different blockchain.
Polkagold aims to become the premier reserve digital commodity for Polkadot, filling the gap left by the absence of a true digital gold that underpins the economy as a reserve asset for the treasury to acquire.
The Polkagold Advantage
While Polkadot already boasts native stablecoins like USDT and USDC on AssetHub for stable currency transfers, and the DOT utility token for transaction fees, governance, staking, and network security, Polkagold offers a unique proposition as a non-inflationary digital asset.
Polkagold will have a fixed supply of 10,000,000 coins produced at genesis, ensuring its scarcity and value preservation. This novel concept seeks to mimic the fair launch of Bitcoin, where even early adopters had to acquire their coins through mining.
A Fair and Transparent Launch
Polkagold's launch is designed to be the most fair and transparent in the crypto space since Bitcoin, with:
• 0% allocated to the team • 0% allocated to founders • 0% allocated for marketing • 100% of the supply dedicated to exchange liquidity
Polkagold launched on exchanges during the early bootstrap phase, with the entire supply immediately put into circulation as part of the liquidity pool. This innovative "Proof of Purchase" (PoP) concept ensures that every single Polkagold in existence had to be purchased, just like the early Bitcoin adopters had to mine their coins.
The Synergy of Algorand and Polkadot
Polkagold's security is provided by the Algorand blockchain, chosen for its exceptional security track record, exhibiting zero downtime, zero failed transactions, and zero on-chain hacks since its inception. Algorand was created by Turing Award winner Silvio Micali, widely regarded as the father of modern cryptography.
While Algorand boasts a large community and focuses on enterprise-grade usage, it has yet to find widespread adoption among mainstream cryptocurrency users. Polkagold aims to bridge this gap by driving strong usage for the Algorand coin, bolstering usage on Algorand DEXes, Total Value Locked (TVL), and 24-hour trading volume.
Mutual Benefits for Algorand and Polkadot
The appeal of a fairly launched, non-inflationary commodity like Polkagold in the current global landscape is undeniable. By bootstrapping and locking the entire Genesis wallet liquidity exclusively on Algorand DEXes and ALGO/PGOLD trading pairs, Polkagold creates a virtuous cycle:
  1. To acquire PGOLD, users must first acquire ALGO coins.
  2. If not already an Algorand user, they must open an Algorand wallet (likely Pera Wallet).
  3. Users then trade their ALGO for PGOLD, increasing TVL, transaction volume on Algorand DEXes, and demand for PGOLD.
  4. Increased demand from more users drives further acquisition of ALGO coins, perpetuating the cycle.
This flow perpetually drives demand for PGOLD, bringing new users to the Algorand blockchain and creating a snowballing demand for ALGO's native coin, as well as increasing TVL and transaction volume across the Algorand DeFi landscape.
For the Polkadot community, Polkagold controls two wallets:
  1. A wallet on Algorand that holds the Genesis Wallet for the 10,000,000 hard-capped supply LP, locked for 20 years and 5 years, respectively.
  2. A wallet on Polkadot that has locked out the ticker PGOLD, the name Polkagold, and the Asset ID#79 (the elementary number for Gold), ensuring no copycat token can be created on Polkadot.
This whitepaper grants ownership of the Algorand Genesis Wallet to the Polkadot Treasury, which can be claimed by the Web3 Foundation Official Twitter Account or Gavin Wood's Official Twitter account by sending a DM to the Polkagold Official Twitter account. Upon contact, the private keys and seed phrase of the Genesis Polkagold Wallet on Algorand will be handed over securely and free of charge to the Polkadot Treasury.
As the Algorand and Polkadot communities acquire PGOLD, it becomes a more distributed commodity, and any value accrual will benefit the Polkadot Treasury, which acquired the Genesis Wallet at no cost. However, the Polkadot Treasury won't be able to sell or access the PGOLD until the lock-up periods expire.
A Win-Win for Algorand and Polkadot
Polkagold aims to bring together the combined liquidity, communities, and market caps of two major blue-chip projects, synergizing to create the hardest and most fairly distributed asset in crypto – PGOLD.
It's a win-win for both Algorand and Polkadot, as it synergizes their communities, bringing together their combined users and trading volume for mutual benefits. The Polkadot community benefits from the value accrual of PGOLD, while the Algorand community benefits from increased transaction volume, Algorand coin demand, and DEX usage.
Both communities end up with a communal digital gold that can open up new DeFi opportunities, and PGOLD may be used in clever ways by other projects within Algorand and Polkadot that have yet to be conceived. There are far more applications for digital gold to be explored.

2024.05.20 02:57 electricarchbishop The True Purpose of the Chapel of Anticipation and the Biology of Gold Plants

The True Purpose of the Chapel of Anticipation and the Biology of Gold Plants
Something has always seemed off about the Chapel of Anticipation. From its out-of-place Altus Plateau plant life to its role as the arrival point of the Tarnished, its true nature is one that is not yet truly known. I propose a theory; Godrick created the Chapel of Anticipation to act as a testing ground so he could understand the effects of gold on isolated plant life.
Something I noticed recently while inspecting the Chapel is the presence of several patches of reflective gold blobs. These blobs only occur at the final diminutive island at the end of the area, and as far as I know, appear nowhere else in the entire game.
At first glance, the blobs appear similar to the many fallen Erdtree leaves that can be seen at the Elden Throne and areas of Leyndell, but the blobs’ geometry clearly contradicts that. It is as though someone poured molten gold onto the ground itself. But who would do that, and why? Not to mention, these blobs aren’t seen anywhere else in the Chapel. Why is this the only place these blobs are seen? I believe the answer lies in the behavior and properties of gold in the Lands Between.
Gold has many interesting traits in Elden Ring, but its most relevant one here is its ability to be absorbed by plant life. This is shown excellently in the Erdtree Sanctuary, where gold-leaf Erdtree leaves are landing outside the sanctuary and being absorbed by the plant life outside, which turns then gold due to growing in the fallen leaves themselves, bioaccumulating the gold in the same way real-life plants do. In this sense, we find a gradient of gold-absorbed plant life; at the lowest end is full-green plant life wholly separate from the fallen gold leaves of the Erdtree, with many of Limgrave’s Altus-esque plants mixed with these green plants. Going further, Altus Plateau’s plant life is fully gold but lacking enough to become metallic. This is because the plateau is directly below the Erdtree, and receives most of its fallen foliage. Finally, the last stage is complete growth in gold-saturated soil, which causes the plant to shine with its own gold in the same way the Erdtree’s fallen leaves do.
Going back to the Chapel of Anticipation with this newfound knowledge, something interesting can be noticed about its plant life; the trees’ leaves are metallic gold. (Example image provided above)
Even Altus Plateau’s tree leaves are never this golden. The only other plants in the game which share this texture is the ultra gold-saturated plant life at the Elden Throne. So whatever Godrick is doing to these trees, it must have something to do with elemental gold. Here we go back to my point in the beginning.
Godrick got his boys to melt down some of his gold supplies (which he definitely has great quantities of, considering he can outfit every one of his knights and Scions with golden shields) and cast the gold onto the soil of the Chapel of Anticipation. As plant life was seeded there, it took up the gold present in the soil and achieved the stages the Altus and Elden Throne plant life did; becoming gold-hued or metallic gold-textured depending on how much gold was absorbed into its composition. The reason only the far-out island’s gold hasn’t been absorbed yet may be due to the far-out island lacking much soil to grow in; the main island has a great amount of soil to use, but the far-off one is largely rock with a few epiphytic ferns and small bushes composing its biomass. The leftover gold is only there because the plants are not in position to absorb it yet.
This theory originated party because I thought it was too silly of a mental image to think of a cloaked Godrick smuggling several dozen potted plants out of the Capital, and partly because I like to overanalyze the fundamentals of how this game’s underlying physics work. I hope you enjoyed my thoughts on this! What do you guys think about it?

2024.05.20 02:46 Dream_Dragon_Gina PSA: How I learned to survive the game braking bugs on PlayStation 4, (after the Dreamlight Parks Fest event hotfix during the Thrills and Frills update).

Hello all! Ever since the hot-fix on Wednesday (May 15th) playing this game has been a nightmare; a whiplash of emotions. The bugs have probably made this game unplayable for a bunch of us, some of us more so than others. Not all of the issues mentioned here may apply to everyone…but this is my personal experience.
I’ve had my game crash at least 20 times or more since Wednesday, and my local save has been corrupted at least half as many times. (Honestly, I’ve lost count…). To deal with this corruption, it’s vital to have a backup of your local save file (from your system). The PlayStation Plus subscription offers cloud saving through the system’s option menu (hover over the DDV application, press the options button on the controller, and select “upload/download save data”). You can save your game data to cloud storage. After a crash, going to “upload/download save data” can show you if your local save is corrupted. If it is, download the backup from the cloud, and it will overwrite the corrupted save. Opening the game will show you a pop up stating there’s a conflict between the local save and the Game Server’s cloud save, (if you have also been cloud saving from in the game’s settings when you play). If your game server cloud save is up to date compared to your back up local save, select the cloud save, and you will have your game restored to its most recent save.
If you don’t have PS+, you can use a USB drive storage device to back up your save file. Go to you system settings and select “Manage Save data” (I forgot if this is the correct name); you can then select where to save your backup, and upload your DDV file to your device. This same menu will let you download to your system as well.
Now that I have the the back up process out of the way, here’s the main part of my post!
The main valley seems to contain most of the actions that cause crashes: 1. Using furniture mode for too long and exiting out of it (outside). 2. Entering the main menu and exiting it while OUTSIDE. 3. Interacting with Goofy and Christof’s stalls. 4. Cooking outside… (the developers gave a message in the mailbox with a list of all the food items that will make the game crash. it seems safe to use the DLC Ancient Cooker outside, however, I have experienced some crashes when using it sometimes.)
Not being able to access the menu means: we can’t SAVE our game! 😭 no access to the map, Dreamlight Duties, event tab, quest tab, or the starpath tasks.
HOWEVER I discovered that you CAN safely open up the menu when inside your house (or other villager houses). Essentially, any location that requires you to “step out” of the valley and has its own loading screen, will be a safe place to access the menu. Cooking and using the furniture menu indoors is safe as well. I even stepped into the Dream Castle, and it’s safe there too. Also, I can still use Scrooge’s store and Remy’s Restaurant.
Sadly, my game still crashes randomly sometimes; running through the valley, entering Remy’s, entering Scrooge’s, and using the Furniture menu outside.
Not being able to use goofy’s stall is a Major issue: I can’t sell anything or buy seeds I need. (Sugarcane is required to make cupcakes, and Star coins are needed to buy milk and butter, as well as furniture.) The only work-around for this specific issue requires the DLC. Playing the game in Eternity Isle is entirely safe from crashes (supposedly because it’s a separate server from Dreamlight Valley.) I can sell any extra items I’ve gathered or buy seeds to grow fruit and make money…but I don’t think I have access to sugarcane. The only thing that’s saved me in this case is that I had a stash of sugarcane seeds stored in my vegetable storage room.
I’m trying decorate in short bursts, and going indoors to save my progress whenever I can. All I can do is hope my save doesn’t get corrupted every single time it crashes, and restore my save file when it does.
Sorry for the long post, but I hope this helps some of you who are suffering from crashes the same as me. All we can do is contact support and hope they provide us with an update on the situation next week.
Good luck everyone! And wish me luck in completing my amusement park for my Dreamsnaps. It’s incredibly challenging at the moment, but I haven’t given up!

2024.05.20 02:44 CondorOneFiveSeven How do I convince my wife?

My wife and I have a modestly sized property, with a small front lawn and a slightly larger backyard. The lawns have never been "great" since we moved it, lots of dandelions, violets, ground ivy and clover. But I keep it mowed, it's nice and green without any bare patches, and that's all I really care about.
But lately my wife has been anxious about "the weeds taking over". She's mentioned this before, but lately it's been with increasing frequency. I feel like a lot of it has to do with our upbringings. I grew up with a huge yard, and we never worried about weeds and such. My dad would keep it mowed, and that's about it. Her parents' much smaller yard is a pristine carpet of grass. They have it treated regularly, and just recently had the entire thing stripped down to the soil and re-seeded.
Now she wants to do the same thing. Not only do I think it's not necessary, it would (in my opinion) cost an unreasonable amount of money to do so. Plus, we have a young child and I feel like a huge part of being a kid is exploring the yard, finding cool plants and bugs, picking flowers, and not worrying about chemicals or keeping the lawn pristine. I enjoy the random, natural landscape. We found a wild strawberry plant last year, and it was a super fun discovery! We get crane flies, bumblebees, and a million fireflies during the summer - it's AMAZING to watch them at night.
Unfortunately my wife does not share my enthusiasm. She is not interested in bugs or wildflowers, and woulduch prefer to keep up with the Jones's. She's talked about "what the neighbors think" and property value. I care little about either. Again, if it's well maintained, that's all that I feel should really matter.
Now I know communication is key here. I love and respect my wife, and I feel like we do communicate well. So far she's begrudgingly accepted my opinion of it being not only unnecessary, but also costly and hazardous. But I don't want her to just be continually disappointed, I'd like her to grow to appreciate the natural state of our lawn and see it the way I do. Maybe that's egocentric of me, but I just want her to be happy without it being at the cost of our finances and health.
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Fresh built 10x5 vegetable garden tips?
We just built a 10x5 garden for vegetables, good soil I threw plenty of nightcrawlers in, working on an irrigation system ( 16 misters tips for PVC are on the way) I'm curious as to how much I can actually grow in this bed and of what to grow side by side. I know we're probably over doing it to start. But I've bought 2 packets of bell peppers, 1 packet of sweet corn seeds, 1 broccoli, 1 cauliflower, 1 Onion, 1 green beans, 1 tomato, and 1 cucumber. Whole mix of seeds. And also the cheap small packets. I've grown a considerable mess together successfully in the past (not everything I've listed) within the same square footage just never a raised bed. Any advice or professional tips would be greatly appreciated. And I know the sweet corn is a long shot especially with the depth of soil I have to work with roughly 15 inches. But I planned on seeding them towards the back away from all of the other chaos. And I will probably be picking up a few more bags of garden soil tomorrow. I wouldn't mind another inch or two in this bed. Thanks for any advice 🙂

2024.05.20 02:00 Ralodinho r/qotsa March Madness Day 49: Block D Second Round (2) 3s & 7s vs (10) Do It Again

Day 49 of qotsa March Madness! Yesterday's battle had Regular John, come out on top. Today's matchup is 3s & 7s vs Do It Again. Like always, if y'all don't know the rules, read the background below!
Background:
Hey guys! As it is March, in the College Basketball world, it is March Madness, and as a Basketball fanatic and a qotsa fanatic, I thought that bringing the two together for the subreddit would be a fun time to pass the time before the band embarks on the Canada/NA Leg! For the 64 songs in the bracket, I took (for the most part) the top 64 most streamed songs on Spotify. Then I did a random generator, generating each seeding. That's why you may see that some of your favorites that didn't make it unfortunately. Every day when the polls expire, I will upload the next matchup. I will have all the brackets linked in each post updated with the scores. May the best song win!
