Since people got so annoyed with the blur, here's some nudes
Story time: I was a suicidal student struggling to clear CA final when I invested in these stocks. My dad trusted me and gave me some money to invest but yeah, this is my portfolio right now. Also, my articleship experience (2y of just these audits) in stock broker audits at an early age of 20 helped me to stay curious back then. Used to look at tradelogs of customers (as part of sample testing in audit) and be surprised at how much people used to make by day trading. Also gave me an idea of different types and names of stocks that existed. Thoroughly enjoyed my time there talking to equity research analysts and RMS head, over coffee or lunch. I used to be shameless and come clean of my lack of knowledge and sit with them after hours to understand how stock broking business works (something that wasn't needed for the audit, but I couldn't get rid of the curiousity itch).
At the time of clearing CA Final, the only stocks I sold were chola finance and a bit of SBI to purchase a phone. I used to use a bar phone until then as I wanted to keep my distractions minimum. Fortunately, after I cleared CA I never needed to sell stocks for my needs/wants.
Anyway, I did see exilisi go to ~1300% as well, but didn't sell it but no regrets. But I guess I should also learn to know when to divest as well.
I remember buying endurance tech with whole of my diwali bonus when I was an articleship student. Probably will never sell this as a memoir of the times.
Anyway, it's been almost 10years when I started investing and now I earn enough to experiment in stock markets and not have regret of loss of capital. This post is a reminder to self to be active again in the investing life :)
Feel free to criticize or drop any tips for me to do better and stay active.
PS: always grateful to my dad, who worked in a PSU bank. Literally dragged me to his colleague who handled trading cell of the branch in a tier 3 city (so basically he was sitting quiet) to teach me basics of stock market. My dad asked his colleague for his time and made me sit with him to just have a conversation. And that's what we did, I was a foundation student back then and his colleague told me what a sensex ticker is and how nifty fifty index is calculated. That, caused a spark, which led me to do some NSE NCFM courses, which got me articleship in a CA firm coz they had a stock broking client for whom they had to do internal audits and report to NSE, BSE. I loved it so much that I went on to stick to internal audits for my career and am a Group Internal Auditor for a company with about ₹7200cr pa revenue.
As I type this, I have tears in my eyes coz I realise butterfly effect of my dad pushing me to have a conversation with his colleague. Me, who was just a 19y kid who just cleared his foundation exam in CA, waiting to clear IPCC but contemplating suicide in case I didn't clear it.
Thank you dad :)

2024.05.20 08:36 infosconnect How to Choose the Best Universities to Study Abroad: A Guide by Overseas Education Consultancy

Studying abroad is an exciting and life-changing experience that offers countless opportunities for personal, academic, and professional growth. One of the most crucial decisions you'll make during this journey is selecting the right university. With thousands of institutions worldwide, each offering unique programs, facilities, and cultural experiences, the choice can seem daunting. However, with careful research and consideration, you can find the perfect fit for your educational aspirations. As one of the best study abroad consultants, we’ll tell you how to choose the best universities to study abroad:
1. Define Your Goals: Before delving into university options, take some time to define your academic and personal goals. What field of study are you interested in? Do you have specific career aspirations? Are you seeking cultural immersion or language proficiency? Understanding your objectives will help narrow down your choices and focus your search.
2. Research Academic Programs: Look for universities renowned for excellence in your chosen field of study. Consider factors such as faculty expertise, research opportunities, internship programs, and curriculum flexibility. Review course offerings, class sizes, and teaching methods of the best universities to study abroad.
3. Evaluate Reputation and Rankings: Although rankings shouldn't be the only factor in your selection, they can offer important information about the academic status and international reputation of an institution. Refer to credible rankings such as Academic Ranking of World Universities, Times Higher Education, or QS World University Rankings to assess universities according to factors like research output, employer reputation, faculty-to-student ratio, and academic reputation.
4. Assess Location and Culture: Take into account the university's location as well as the surrounding culture. Consider elements like the weather, cost of living, safety, and accessibility to cultural attractions. Evaluate the university's dedication to diversity, inclusiveness, and services for international students as well.
5. Examine Financial Considerations: Since studying abroad can require a substantial financial outlay, it's critical to take living expenses, tuition, and scholarships into account. Examine the grants, financial assistance packages, and scholarship options that colleges and outside organizations are offering.
6. Examine Campus Resources and Facilities: Take an online or physical tour of the university campus to evaluate its resources and facilities, including labs, libraries, sports facilities, dorms, extracurricular activities, etc.
7. Seek Student Testimonials and Feedback: To learn more about the experiences of those who have been there directly, get in touch with current or former students at the universities you are considering. For honest comments and endorsements, student blogs, social media groups, and online forums are also great sources.
By following these steps and conducting thorough research, you can make an informed decision when choosing the best universities to study abroad. You can also seek the help of best overseas education consultants in Kerala to help you pick out the best universities that cater to your academic interests and aspirations.

2024.05.20 07:59 sunn_vaeide 22 [F4A] Asia/Online - Looking for friends to vc and watch stuff with

Hello! Like most other people here I am trying to make so friends. Ideally something long term not just for a short chat or anything. And of course like the title says I want to meet people who like to vc as well, on discord specifically, and if you play games on pc that is even better! But anyways on to me :p
I am Japanese born and raised however due to certain world events I am located in Poland temporarily before I go back to Japan but anyways! When I have time to myself I spend a lot of it online, not much of a social butterfly, but still I want to meet some people to keep my company in my free, maybe play with, and voice chat with since I far better at speaking than writing 😅
You could call me a pretty massive nerd and also kind of antisocial, outside of work at least, though if I am drinking a bit I warm up a little easier :p I love anything to with games, tech, and science. I guess I sort of collect games, I have over 600+ games on steam. If you want more specifics I mostly play strategy, 4X, simulators, and FPS's. Recently most of my time has been taken up by Squad, Assetto Corsa, Gray Zone Warfare, and Helldivers!
If games are not your thing though that is okay too! I love the outdoors too and working out. Snowboarding, surfing, and spearfishing are some of the things I like to do whenever I can get myself outside of the house though of course cannot really do many of those things here in Poland at the moment 😅.
I am active military as well though currently working voluntarily with the international legion teaching paramedics and combat medics. So if you are also feel free to say hi as well! always cool meeting others in the same career as me.
But of course I am much more comfy just sitting in my room playing games, watching, anime, or reading so that is where you will most often find me. I love talking about anything really especially learning about other people and how it is where they live.
If any of this sounded interesting to you feel free to message me, and of course please actually tell me something about yourself, "Hi" or "Hey" does not really tell me much about you. Also Reddit sort of hates me and does not give me notifications so if I am slow to respond so sorry! But anyways have a good day/evening!

2024.05.20 07:29 snicoleon I'm benched.

TLDR I'm in pain with this pregnancy that has recently become significantly disabling and often untreatable, and it sucks beyond belief that I can't do ANY of the normal stuff I used to be able to do easily, especially for my toddler.
The hip pain I've been experiencing has me completely debilitated. Even on a day when the pain is low, I have to avoid doing pretty much anything physical or I will pay for it in the night, if not sooner. Unfortunately I've been learning this the hard way. I felt okay for most of the day today, but I pushed it and now I'm suffering again.
I'm not asking for advice on how to treat the pain, I've already posted about that. I'm just venting my frustration over not being able to do literally anything I used to. Even throughout most of this pregnancy up until 2-3 weeks ago I was able to do most things, with some restrictions. Now it's all restrictions, no activity, or else I'm back to square one with the pain.
Today I was like those people who take medication for a condition and then think the condition is gone so they can stop taking the meds, then surprise surprise it turns out the only reason they weren't having symptoms was because of the meds. Except for me it's avoiding physical activity of any kind except mild walking. As soon as I get too comfortable and think I haven't been feeling too bad, I end up doing too much and feeling that same agonizing pain all over again. So even on a good day I can't do anything.
Normally I do grocery shopping, not just for my nuclear family but for my whole house (we live with in laws). I cook. I clean (well, I was getting better at it). I play with my 3 year old, physical games, pretend games, sensory activities, random stuff she wants to do. I pick her up, carry her, hold her on my lap. I take her out for walks to the park, to the store, play dates, out for food sometimes. I bathe her and do our laundry. We go to church, we go for drives. I teach piano to a friend's daughter. I hang out with my husband, we watch movies together, get late night fast food, do spicy things. My family lives far enough away that it's difficult to see them regularly so when we do have a chance to get together, I normally take it. I was working, 3 hours a day. Now I can't do any of those things.
I can't be on my feet for too long but I also can't lay down or sit for too long because of how it affects my body. I can't really leave the house, pretty much at all. I can't reach anything below hip level, whether by bending down or kneeling or squatting. If I drop something, it stays on the floor. My daughter is still learning to clean up after herself and needs help focusing, so when she makes a mess it's hard to get her to clean it up all by herself - but I can't physically help her, so if she doesn't do it, it doesn't get done until my husband gets a chance to help with it. I can't physically move her to where she needs to be or get down to her level to get her focused or show her how to do it.
The only adult who can help with most of this, out of the 5 total in our home, is my husband, who works 9 hour night shifts. I can't ask the other 2 men to do my stuff especially for my daughter, and the 1 other woman is also disabled and can't do much. I'm usually the one helping them. Now I'm too disabled to even help myself.
Thanks for reading my rant, even if it was just the TLDR. I don't know what I'm looking for - just expressing frustration and overwhelm I guess.

Unveiling Peru's Skyward Revolution: Exploring the Dynamics and Potential of the Peru Drone Market
https://preview.redd.it/u207xe5zni1d1.jpg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6f93baf0b9c4a886cda17007502235815abbb886
The Peru drone market has experienced significant growth in recent years, driven by advancements in technology, expanding applications across various industries, and favorable regulatory frameworks. Drones, also known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), have emerged as versatile tools with applications ranging from agriculture and mining to environmental monitoring and filmmaking. This article provides an overview of the Peru drone market, including its history, key players, applications, regulations, and future prospects.

History and Evolution

The use of drones in Peru dates back to the early 2000s when government agencies and research institutions began experimenting with UAVs for aerial surveys, mapping, and environmental monitoring. However, it wasn't until the mid-2010s that the commercial drone market started to gain traction, driven by advancements in drone technology, decreasing costs, and increasing awareness of their potential benefits across industries.

Key Players and Market Landscape

The Peru drone market is characterized by a diverse ecosystem of manufacturers, service providers, and technology integrators catering to a wide range of industries. International drone manufacturers such as DJI, Parrot, and Yuneec dominate the hardware segment, offering a variety of consumer and professional-grade drones tailored to different applications. Additionally, there is a growing number of local drone startups and service providers specializing in aerial photography, surveying, mapping, and inspection services.

Applications

Drones are employed across various sectors in Peru, offering cost-effective solutions for tasks that were traditionally time-consuming, labor-intensive, or hazardous. Some notable applications include:
  • Agriculture: Drones equipped with multispectral cameras and sensors are used for crop monitoring, precision agriculture, and pest detection, helping farmers optimize crop yields and reduce resource inputs.
  • Mining: In the mining industry, drones are utilized for geological surveys, stockpile measurements, and site mapping, enabling companies to improve operational efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Infrastructure Inspection: Drones are employed for infrastructure inspection tasks, including monitoring of pipelines, power lines, bridges, and dams, providing high-resolution imagery and data for maintenance and asset management.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Conservation organizations and government agencies use drones for wildlife monitoring, forest management, and habitat mapping, facilitating data-driven decision-making and ecosystem protection efforts.
  • Filmmaking and Media: Drones equipped with high-resolution cameras are increasingly used in the film and media industry for aerial cinematography, providing unique perspectives and dynamic shots for documentaries, commercials, and feature films.

Regulatory Environment

The regulatory framework governing the use of drones in Peru is administered by the Civil Aviation Authority (Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil - DGAC). Commercial drone operations require registration, licensing, and compliance with specific regulations, including restrictions on flight altitude, proximity to airports, and airspace categorization. Additionally, operators must adhere to safety guidelines and obtain permits for specialized operations such as aerial spraying or night flights. Despite regulatory challenges, the Peru government has shown a proactive approach towards integrating drones into national airspace and fostering innovation in the industry.

Education and Training

As the demand for drone-related services grows in Peru, so does the need for skilled professionals capable of operating and maintaining UAVs safely and effectively. Recognizing this, educational institutions and training centers across the country have begun offering courses and certification programs in drone operation, aerial photography, data analysis, and maintenance. These programs aim to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and regulatory understanding necessary to pursue careers in various sectors, including agriculture, engineering, environmental science, and filmmaking.

Research and Development

2024.05.20 07:22 MissSpidergirl Tutors saying weird things

Hi everyone,
Posting as a student here.
I have been home schooled in the UK (online) for the past year and essentially given the power to pick who I wanted for my teachers by my parents. I have been having the weirdest experiences and looking for support or explanations?
Here is a list:
• teachers getting angry at me for not being able to answer a problem and telling me “I never had a tutor” angrily
• booking lessons with me through the agency then not turning up. Pretending they booked the wrong time, telling me what the right time is, again not turning up. I have been there the whole time waiting for them. Tell me they will offer some times during the week as a one-off. I wait for them to tell me which days, keeping my evenings (after 7pm) open for them. Don’t offer new times. This specific tutor is only available at 9am on Sundays for an hour and has now told the agency they ‘are not around for the next two weeks’ even though they know my exam is in 3 weeks and we have missed each other for the last 4 weeks. The week after they did not turn up, they turn up, start to test me on a topic as if we are in an exam, then get angry at me for not knowing it perfectly off by heart? They were like “have you read it”, “yes, I have studied this module”, “no, you may have studied it but you do not know it. There is no point unless you know it” then they made us reschedule for the next week now have disappeared? How am I supposed to know to do homework if they don’t let me know in advance? And they are only free on a Sunday at 9am which is a bad time for me because my dad works night shifts. I told them about my dad and they just completely ghosted the message making me feel unimportant to them. Also, the tutor doesn’t have perfect grades of his own, and keeps making reference to ‘boffins’ who get the good marks… and I told him I was in the middle of other exams and he acted completely surprised and disappointed I have other subjects to sit exams for. As if all I am doing with my life is meeting him on a Sunday morning at 9am.
• one private tutor completely forgot who I was. When starting each class, they would tell me to remind them which topic we were on because they could not remember, at one point this teacher got angry at me for politely asking them (with notice) if we could please start 15 minutes later so I could go to the toilet and have some water because I was coming out of a two hour lesson (never said I wouldn’t be fine to finish 15 minutes earlier if they had another lesson), telling me off and saying they are going to charge me for the whole thing rudely when I said I wouldn’t come to the lesson if they were going to treat me badly. This was our first lesson after they basically disappeared because they ‘had migraines’ and then forgot to arrange a lesson for two months, ignoring my texts. I had to call the agency and get them to make them book a lesson (this is all halfway through our module). Before they started avoiding lessons because of migraines, they had spent lesson time confiding in me that they were suffering from a bereavement of someone’s sibling (that they didn’t actually know). I felt really uncomfortable with this the whole time but was supportive.
• tutor telling me “you want to take a break now” and making me wait in a “break” for 30 minutes, then charging me for those 30 minutes even though I did not need a break? Later found out what he was teaching me was completely awful and way, way too basic - I would have gotten a D if I followed his advice.
• tutor refusing to teach me the topic I asked them to teach (part of the curriculum and a topic they previously said they would be happy to teach - they brought it up not me, so I later asked if they meant that and if so, that I would be interested to cover it soon), but suddenly trying to pressure me to instead pay them for internship ‘application review’ services I did not ask for help with.
All the above happened with lessons scheduled through a tutoring agency. The tutors knew I could raise concerns with the agency, and yet still acted this way. To disclose, I am a straight A student and work hard. I have high standards for my lessons. I depend on these lessons because outside of them, I do not have a great social life. So I am deeply focused on my studies. I am respectful with their time and always accommodate to their preferred time. I am always in lessons on time and switched on, and complete tasks around lessons if they are set. Most often, I have to actively ask for homework to be set (I do not ask for it to be marked, as I know that takes time). If it is marked, I compensate them per hour taken. I feel scammed. I have been waiting for two weeks now anxiously for a message from the tutor in the second bullet, who is supposed to be supporting me as a practice partner for an oral exam I have soon, and is not replying to my polite messages asking if he can please send me what the plan is or at least share the past papers he said earlier in our lessons he had but never got round to sending, in order that I might do some work while waiting for him to come back after two weeks, even though my exams are close. What gives?

2024.05.20 07:06 Uniform-Master Beyond Dress Codes: Rethinking School Uniform Policies for Student Well-Being

In recent years, the efficacy of traditional school uniform policies in promoting student well-being has come under increasing scrutiny and debate. While dress codes have historically been employed to instil discipline and promote equality within schools, there is a growing recognition of the necessity to reevaluate and refine these policies to better address the holistic needs of students. This article delves into the shifting landscape of school uniform policies, advocating for a more comprehensive approach that prioritizes student well-being and inclusivity.
Challenging Traditional Assumptions:
Traditional school uniform policies have long operated under the assumption that standardizing attire is conducive to fostering discipline, minimizing distractions, and cultivating a sense of unity among students. However, critics contend that these policies may inadvertently stifle individual expression, perpetuate feelings of conformity, and widen social inequalities within the school community. As educational institutions grapple with these conflicting perspectives, there emerges a pressing need to reassess uniform policies through a lens that prioritizes student well-being and equity.
As schools navigate the complexities of modern education, it becomes increasingly evident that traditional uniform policies may not adequately address the diverse needs and preferences of students. While the intention behind standardizing attire is often rooted in promoting discipline and unity, the reality is that such policies can sometimes overlook the individuality and well-being of students.
Critics of traditional uniform policies argue that the emphasis on conformity may inadvertently suppress students' ability to express themselves authentically. This can lead to feelings of discomfort or alienation among students who may not resonate with the prescribed dress code. Moreover, the enforcement of strict uniform regulations may exacerbate existing social inequalities, particularly for students from marginalized or economically disadvantaged backgrounds who may struggle to afford the designated attire.
In response to these concerns, there is a growing movement towards reevaluating uniform policies through a lens of student well-being and inclusivity. Rather than adhering rigidly to traditional norms, schools are exploring more flexible approaches that prioritize individual autonomy and diversity. This may involve soliciting feedback from students, parents, and staff to co-create uniform guidelines that reflect the values and needs of the school community. Furthermore, there is a recognition of the importance of promoting inclusivity and diversity within uniform policies. Schools are increasingly adopting gender-neutral options and accommodating a range of cultural and religious preferences to ensure that all students feel respected and valued. By embracing diversity in attire, schools create a more welcoming and affirming environment where students can express their identities without fear of judgment or discrimination.
Ultimately, the goal of rethinking uniform policies is to create a school culture that prioritizes the well-being and dignity of every student. By challenging traditional assumptions and embracing a more comprehensive approach to uniform policies, schools can foster a sense of belonging and empowerment among students, paving the way for a more inclusive and equitable educational experience.
Promoting Student Agency and Autonomy:
In the endeavour to rethink school uniform policies, it is paramount to view students not merely as passive recipients but as active participants in their educational journey. Rather than enforcing strict dress codes, schools should aspire to empower students to express their identities and preferences within reasonable parameters. By involving students in the decision-making process and seeking their input on uniform policies, schools foster a sense of ownership and agency among the student body. This collaborative approach not only enhances student engagement but also cultivates a positive school culture characterized by mutual respect and collaboration. By granting students a voice in shaping uniform policies, schools demonstrate a commitment to valuing student perspectives and fostering a sense of belonging within the educational community.
Creating Inclusive and Gender-Neutral Policies:
Another pivotal aspect of rethinking school uniform policies involves the imperative to create policies that are inclusive and gender-neutral. Traditional uniform regulations often adhere strictly to binary gender norms, prescribing distinct attire for male and female students. However, such policies can inadvertently marginalize and alienate students who do not conform to traditional gender roles. To address this issue, schools should consider adopting gender-neutral uniform options and accommodating a spectrum of diverse gender identities. By embracing inclusivity and diversity in uniform policies, schools create a more welcoming and affirming environment where all students feel respected, accepted, and able to express themselves authentically.
Emphasizing Comfort and Practicality:
In addition to promoting inclusivity, the reevaluation of school uniform policies should prioritize student comfort and practicality. Uniforms should be thoughtfully designed to accommodate the diverse needs and preferences of students, taking into account factors such as climate, cultural backgrounds, and physical abilities. Whether in hot climates or cold, uniforms should be adaptable to ensure students can focus on their studies without distraction. Moreover, uniforms should be affordable and easily accessible to all students, irrespective of their socio-economic backgrounds. By prioritizing comfort, practicality, and affordability in uniform design, schools mitigate financial barriers and ensure equitable access to educational opportunities for all students, fostering a learning environment where every individual can thrive and succeed.
Conclusion:
As schools navigate the complexities of modern education, there is an undeniable urgency to reconsider traditional uniform policies in favour of approaches that prioritize student well-being, inclusivity, and autonomy. By challenging conventional assumptions and embracing innovative strategies, schools can foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that nurtures the holistic development of all students, Central to this paradigm shift is the recognition of students as active participants in their educational journey. Rather than imposing rigid dress codes, schools should endeavour to empower students to express their individuality within reasonable parameters. Collaborating with reputable uniform manufacturers such as ABC Uniforms and XYZ Apparel, schools can offer a variety of options that cater to diverse preferences while maintaining a sense of unity and professionalism.
Creating Inclusive and Gender-Neutral Policies: Furthermore, it is imperative to develop uniform policies that are inclusive and gender-neutral, ensuring that all students feel respected and valued. By partnering with uniform manufacturers like Uniforms R Us and Global Garments, schools can design attire that accommodates diverse gender identities and cultural backgrounds, fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance for every student.
Emphasizing Comfort and Practicality: In addition to promoting inclusivity, rethinking uniform policies should prioritize student comfort and practicality. By collaborating with manufacturers renowned for their quality and durability, such as ComfortWear Co. and Practical Uniforms Ltd., schools can ensure that uniforms are designed with the diverse needs of students in mind, from varying climates to physical abilities. Ultimately, the overarching goal of school uniform policies should be to support the holistic development and well-being of students. By partnering with reputable uniform manufacturers and embracing progressive approaches, schools can create an environment where every student feels valued, respected, and empowered to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

By Prayer and Petition
Philippians 4:6-7 NIV
  • 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Daily Dose of Scripture

What I believe....

Meaning and Interpretation:
  1. "Do not be anxious about anything":
    • Paul is encouraging the believers to not let worry and anxiety dominate their lives. This exhortation acknowledges that anxiety is a common human experience but offers a divine solution to it.
  2. "But in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God":
    • Prayer and Petition: Paul advises the believers to turn their anxieties into prayers. This means they should communicate with God about their worries and needs.
    • With Thanksgiving: It's important to note that Paul adds "with thanksgiving." This suggests that when believers bring their concerns to God, they should also remember to be thankful for God's past blessings and faithfulness. Gratitude is essential in maintaining a positive perspective and trust in God's provision.
    • Present your requests to God: This phrase emphasizes the act of entrusting one's concerns to God, recognizing His sovereignty and care.
  3. "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus":
    • The Peace of God: This refers to a deep sense of tranquility and well-being that comes from trusting in God, irrespective of external circumstances.
    • Which transcends all understanding: This peace is described as surpassing human comprehension. It is not based on logical reasoning or situational factors but is a divine gift that provides comfort beyond what is normally conceivable.
    • Will guard your hearts and your minds: The metaphor of guarding suggests protection. God's peace acts as a sentinel, safeguarding believers' emotional and mental well-being.
    • In Christ Jesus: This peace is available to those who are in a relationship with Jesus Christ. It is through their union with Him that believers experience this divine peace.
Practical Application:
  • Turning Worry into Prayer: The passage teaches Christians to convert their worries into prayers, making a habit of seeking God's help and guidance in every aspect of life.
  • Maintaining Gratitude: By focusing on gratitude even while presenting requests, believers can cultivate a more positive and trustful outlook.
  • Experiencing Divine Peace: This peace, which is a result of faith and trust in God, helps believers navigate life's challenges without being overwhelmed by anxiety.
Overall, Philippians 4:6-7 provides profound spiritual guidance for dealing with anxiety and finding peace through a close and trusting relationship with God.
Reflection:
In our fast-paced world, anxiety often feels like an unavoidable part of life. The pressures of work, relationships, and the uncertainties of the future can weigh heavily on our hearts. However, Paul’s words in Philippians offer a powerful antidote to our worries.
Paul tells us, “Do not be anxious about anything.” This isn’t a dismissive command to simply ignore our problems but an invitation to trust in a deeper, more sustaining source of peace. He guides us to approach every situation with prayer and petition, coupled with thanksgiving. This process transforms our focus from our troubles to God’s presence and faithfulness.
When we bring our concerns to God, we acknowledge His sovereignty and care. But Paul emphasizes that we should do this "with thanksgiving." Gratitude shifts our perspective, reminding us of God's past faithfulness and helping us to trust Him with our present and future needs. It's an act of faith to thank God even while we’re still in the midst of our struggles.
The promise that follows is profound: “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” This peace is not just a temporary relief or a fleeting emotion; it is a divine calm that protects our innermost being. It transcends human understanding because it doesn’t depend on our circumstances. Instead, it flows from a relationship with Christ, who is our source of ultimate peace.
Application:
  1. Start with Prayer: Begin each day by bringing your worries and plans to God. Spend time in prayer, laying out your concerns before Him.
  2. Practice Gratitude: Make a habit of thanking God for His blessings. Keep a gratitude journal to remind yourself of His faithfulness.
  3. Trust in His Peace: When anxiety arises, recall this promise and trust that God’s peace will guard your heart and mind.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your promise of peace that surpasses all understanding. Help me to turn my anxieties over to You in prayer, with a heart full of gratitude. Guard my heart and mind with Your divine peace, and help me to trust in Your constant care. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Thought for the Day:
When we exchange our anxiety for prayer and thanksgiving, we open our hearts to the profound peace that only God can give. Let’s choose to trust Him today and every day.
Study Questions for Philippians 4:6-7

Understanding Anxiety:

  • What does Paul mean when he instructs us to "not be anxious about anything"? How does this command relate to the realities of everyday life? He is encouraging believers to trust in God's sovereignty and care rather than being consumed by worry and fear. This command does not mean that we will never feel anxious, but it invites us to respond to anxiety in a way that relies on God's presence and power. Modern life comes with various stresses, including job pressures, financial concerns, relationship issues, and many more problems. Paul’s instruction is a call to handle these stresses by leaning on God rather than trying to manage everything on our own. Life is full of uncertainties and unexpected challenges. Paul’s message is a reminder that, despite these uncertainties, we can find peace in trusting God’s plan and provision.
  • Can you identify specific areas in your life where anxiety tends to dominate? How do these verses speak to those areas? Work and Career, Finances, Relationships, Health. Trust God with your future, knowing that He holds it in His hands. Pray for His direction and thank Him for the guidance and opportunities He has provided so far. Make it a habit to start your day with prayer, presenting your concerns to God and thanking Him for His faithfulness, Keep a journal to record things you are thankful for each day. This practice can help shift your focus from anxiety to gratitude, Memorize and meditate on Philippians 4:6-7, allowing these verses to remind you of God’s peace and provision throughout your day.

Prayer and Petition With Thanksgiving

  • Why do you think Paul emphasizes the importance of thanksgiving when presenting our requests to God? Paul's emphasis on thanksgiving when presenting our requests to God is not just a suggestion but a vital aspect of a healthy and effective prayer life. Thanksgiving helps us remember God's past faithfulness, shifts our focus from worry to gratitude, aligns us with God’s will, enhances our relationship with Him, and transforms our hearts. By incorporating thanksgiving into our prayers, we develop a deeper trust in God and experience His peace that transcends all understanding.
  • Write down a list of current anxieties and concerns you have. Next to each one, write a prayer and a few things you are thankful for related to that concern. Plan a time each day this week to intentionally practice praying with thanksgiving. Note any changes in your level of anxiety and sense of peace throughout the week. Share this passage with a friend or family member who may be struggling with anxiety. Discuss together how you can support each other in applying these principles. By identifying specific anxieties and pairing them with prayers and expressions of gratitude, we can transform our worries into opportunities for deeper trust and reliance on God. This practice not only helps manage anxiety but also fosters a heart of thanksgiving and faith.

Reflection and Action:

  • How can you practically apply the principles of Philippians 4:6-7 in your daily life? Establish a Daily Prayer Routine, Present Specific Petitions, Incorporate Thanksgiving, Engage in Mindfulness and Reflection, Memorize and Meditate on Scripture, Seek Community Support, Live a Healthy Lifestyle, Practice Trust and Surrender, Engage in Acts of Kindness and Service, Personal Reflection and Action Plan. By consistently applying these steps, you can effectively manage anxiety and experience the peace that surpasses all understanding, as promised in Philippians 4:6-7.

The Peace of God

How can practicing gratitude transform your perspective on your problems and needs? Practicing gratitude can profoundly alter how you perceive and handle your problems and needs. By consistently practicing gratitude, you can transform your outlook on life, making your problems seem more manageable and your needs less overwhelming. Gratitude shifts your focus from what's lacking to what's abundant, fostering a mindset of appreciation and positivity.
Can you think of a time when expressing gratitude during a difficult situation changed your outlook or feelings about that situation?
Situation: Imagine a person named John who unexpectedly lost his job. This situation initially caused significant stress and anxiety due to financial pressures, concerns about the future, and feelings of inadequacy.
Initial Reaction: John felt overwhelmed by the uncertainty and the sudden change. The loss of income and the challenge of finding a new job in a competitive market weighed heavily on him. He was worried about how he would support his family and meet his financial obligations.
Incorporating Gratitude: To cope with the stress, John decided to start a daily gratitude practice. Each day, he made a list of things he was thankful for, even amidst the difficulties. His list included:
  • Supportive Family: John expressed gratitude for his spouse and children who provided emotional support and encouragement during this challenging time.
  • Health: Despite the job loss, John was thankful for good health, which allowed him to actively search for new opportunities.
  • Skills and Experience: He reminded himself of his skills and experiences that made him valuable in the job market.
  • Opportunity for Reflection: John saw the job loss as an opportunity to reflect on his career path and consider new directions that might be more fulfilling.
Changed Outlook: As John continued his gratitude practice, he noticed a shift in his outlook and feelings:
  • Reduced Anxiety: By focusing on the positive aspects of his life, John's anxiety about the future lessened. He began to feel more hopeful and less overwhelmed.
  • Increased Motivation: Recognizing his skills and experiences renewed John's confidence. He became more proactive in his job search, reaching out to his network and exploring new opportunities.
  • Stronger Relationships: Expressing gratitude for his family's support strengthened his relationships. He felt more connected and supported, which boosted his emotional resilience.
  • Positive Perspective: John started seeing the job loss not just as an end, but as a new beginning. He became open to exploring new career paths that he had previously overlooked.
Outcome: Ultimately, John's gratitude practice helped him navigate the job loss with a more positive and resilient mindset. He found a new job that aligned better with his interests and skills, and he felt more fulfilled in his career. The experience also deepened his appreciation for his family's support and strengthened his overall sense of gratitude.

Conclusion:

Expressing gratitude during difficult situations can transform one's outlook and feelings. By focusing on the positive aspects and acknowledging the support and strengths available, individuals can reduce anxiety, increase motivation, and find new opportunities in the midst of challenges. This shift in perspective can lead to personal growth, stronger relationships, and a greater sense of fulfillment.

2024.05.20 06:29 Intraluminal The AI revolution or singularity versus the industrial revolution...one of these things is not like the other.

The argument that the AI revolution is no big deal because society adapted to the industrial revolution is dangerous. It fails to recognize the unique challenges posed by artificial intelligence. To understand why, you have to look at their historical context.
The industrial revolution, which began in the late 18th century, was characterized by the transition from manual labor to machine-based production. This shift was driven by a series of technological innovations, including the steam engine, the spinning jenny, and the power loom, which allowed for the mass production of goods at a scale never before seen. The industrial revolution transformed the economy, leading to the rise of factories, urbanization, and the growth of the middle class.
However, while the industrial revolution was a significant change in the way humans harnessed energy and produced goods, it was ultimately a change in degree rather than a change in kind. In contrast, the AI revolution challenges the very essence of what it means to be human.
Throughout history, humans have substituted animal, wind, or water power for human labor. This process began with the advent of agriculture and the domestication of animals, which allowed humans to harness the power of oxen and horses for plowing fields and transporting goods. The invention of the waterwheel and windmill further enhanced human productivity by harnessing the power of nature. These advances were incremental. The industrial revolution, although revolutionary (hence the name) accelerated this already existing process by introducing machines powered by steam and, later, electricity.
However, human labor was never considered a defining characteristic of being human. In fact, ancient Greek philosophers such as Aristotle viewed laboring as a necessary evil, believing that the highest form of human activity was contemplation and reason. The industrial revolution, while disruptive, did not challenge this fundamental belief.
The industrial revolution, as relatively small as it was compared to the upcoming AI revolution, also had huge social and economic consequences. The rise of factory work led to the exploitation of labor, including child labor, and the displacement of skilled artisans. The concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a few industrialists led to widespread poverty and social unrest, as exemplified by the Luddite riots of the early 19th century, in which workers smashed machinery in protest of job losses.
Despite these challenges, society eventually adapted to the changes brought about by the industrial revolution. Labor laws were enacted to protect workers' rights, and education and social welfare programs were established to help those displaced by automation. The rise of the middle class and the growth of consumer culture helped to drive economic growth and improve our standard of living.
In contrast, the AI revolution is a fundamentally different change. While the industrial revolution augmented human physical abilities, the AI revolution threatens to automate cognitive labor, potentially rendering human intelligence obsolete in many domains. This has profound implications for the nature of work and the role of humans in society.
Moreover, the AI revolution is occurring at a time of already significant social and economic inequality. The benefits of AI are likely to accrue to a small group of individuals and corporations, while the costs are likely to be borne by society as a whole. This has the potential to exacerbate existing inequalities and lead to further social unrest.
The AI revolution also presents existential risks that were not present during the industrial revolution. The development of superintelligent AI systems that exceed human intelligence in all domains could lead to a future in which humans are no longer in control of their own destiny. This has led some experts, such as Stephen Hawking and Elon Musk, to warn of the potential for AI to pose an existential threat to humanity.
Furthermore, the use of AI in decision-making processes, from hiring to criminal justice, could perpetuate and amplify existing biases and inequalities. The opaque nature of many AI algorithms makes it difficult to detect and correct for these biases, leading to a potential erosion of civil liberties and human rights.
Overall it's important to realize that just because society was (slowly and painfully) able to adapt to the relatively minor challenges posed by the industrial revolution, the AI revolution is NOT the same. The automation of cognitive labor, the concentration of wealth and power, and the existential risks posed by superintelligent AI all require a fundamentally different approach than that taken during the Industrial Revolution. We need to look at the AI revolution with caution, and work to ensure that its benefits are distributed equitably and its risks are mitigated through robust laws that ensure equity.

2024.05.20 06:15 Digibloger Addressing High Unemployment in the Modern Era

Addressing High Unemployment in the Modern Era

The modern era, characterized by rapid technological progress and globalization, is paradoxically facing a staggering 65% unemployment rate in some regions. This high level of unemployment poses significant challenges and requires a closer look at its causes, effects, and possible solutions.

Causes of High Unemployment

1.Technological Advancements
Automation and AI Many jobs, especially those involving repetitive tasks, are being replaced by machines and AI. For example, factories are now using robots for assembly lines, reducing the need for human workers.
Digital Revolution The rise of online businesses has affected traditional retail jobs. As more people shop online, physical stores close down, leading to job losses in retail sectors.

  1. Skill Mismatch Outdated Skills Many workers find their skills are no longer relevant due to the rapid advancement in technology. Often, training programs and education systems do not keep pace with these changes, leaving workers unprepared for new job requirements.
Education System Many education systems fail to equip students with practical skills needed in today’s job market, like coding, data analysis, and other technical skills.

  1. Economic Factors
Globalization While opening new markets, globalization also results in jobs moving to countries with cheaper labor. This can cause job losses in higher-wage countries.
Economic Downturns Recessions lead to reduced consumer spending, which in turn forces businesses to cut jobs.

  1. Demographic Changes
Population Growth In many areas, the population is growing faster than the number of jobs being created, leading to higher unemployment rates.
Aging Workforce An older population might face difficulty in retaining or finding new jobs, contributing to higher unemployment.
Impacts of High Unemployment

1.Economic Impact
Reduced Spending High unemployment leads to less consumer spending, slowing down economic growth.
Increased Government Spending Governments have to spend more on unemployment benefits and social services, straining public resources.

2.Social Impact Mental Health
Unemployment is often linked to mental health issues like depression and anxiety. The stress of joblessness and financial insecurity can have serious psychological effects.
Social Unrest High unemployment can lead to higher crime rates and social instability, as people struggle to meet their basic needs.

3.Long-Term Impact
Skill Erosion Long-term unemployment can cause skills to become outdated, making it even harder for people to find jobs.
- **Youth Disadvantage**: High unemployment among young people can hinder their long-term career prospects and financial stability.
Potential Solutions

  1. Education and Training
Continuous Learning There should be more focus on reskilling and upskilling programs to help workers adapt to new technologies.
Updated Curricula Schools and universities need to align their programs with the needs of modern industries, ensuring students graduate with relevant skills.

  1. Support for Entrepreneurship
Incentives Governments can provide financial incentives and support for startups, fostering job creation and innovation.
Innovation Hubs Creating hubs where new businesses can grow helps develop new industries and job opportunities.

3.Economic Policies
Stimulus Measures Governments can implement stimulus packages to boost economic activity and create jobs, especially during downturns.
Fair Trade Balancing trade policies to protect domestic jobs while promoting international trade can mitigate the negative effects of globalization.

Conclusion

The high unemployment rate in the era of modernization is a complex issue that needs a multifaceted approach. By addressing the root causes, such as the rapid technological changes and skill mismatches, and by implementing supportive economic and educational policies, we can create a more resilient job market. Ensuring continuous education and fostering innovation will help societies adapt and thrive amidst the challenges of modernization.

The Satanic panic is a moral panic consisting of over 12,000 unsubstantiated cases of Satanic ritual abuse (SRA, sometimes known as ritual abuse, ritualistic abuse, organized abuse, or sadistic ritual abuse) starting in the United States in the 1980s, spreading throughout many parts of the world by the late 1990s, and persisting today.
Original Post May 9, 2024
Sorry if this is a longer post, but important context below ⬇️
So yeah I'm a program coordinator at our local YMCA and I run an after-school program (effectively am a glorified babysitter hahaha). This past school year I passively mentioned that I play a lot of DnD when one of the kids asked me if I had any plans that weekend, and it totally piqued their interest when I explained to them what the game was like/about. Naturally they asked if they could try and play and I figured sure why not, I'll write a fun and fam friendly one-shot for them.
They all absolutely loved it. It's turned into a proper campaign with about 7 of the 24 kids me and my coworkers look after consistently playing. I've had to limit the sessions to just 1-2 days of the 5 day school week, because I have other kids too that aren't interested in it, and I obviously still need to give them attention and interaction as well (and as you know DnD can be a very engaged and attention demanding). I thought this was a fair compromise. Days that it's nice outside we are always out running around, being active, playing sports -- but if it's a rainy day, or on our weekly Friday Movie Day, we generally play. It's been such a blast sharing something I love so deeply with kids who I care about so much.
So here comes the issue:
Almost every parent of the core group that plays loves that we are doing this (one even plays weekly and we bonded over it haha), but there is one child whose parents certainly do not; they want their kid just constantly active and engaged and playing sports, not playing "silly make believe", which I guess I get to a degree because this is kinda the MO of the YMCA traditionally; healthy active living.

I've explained that most days of the week we do just that, and that this is something we only do on Fridays or rain days when we are stuck inside, but they aren't budging. I think they have a misguided idea of the game and what it is, or maybe they are just fundamentally against it, I'm not sure. I don't think it's to the level of like the era of thought where media and the masses thought DnD was some kind of satanic game, but I feel like there could certainly be a bit of that.

Anyway they want it to stop immediately. I've told them I'm not forcing anyone to play, and that if they really feel that way they are within their rights to tell their child they don't want him playing, but they are trying to take it a step farther and get it banned. ALSO I would feel horrible if this child were forbade from playing while all his friends have a blast doing so. Just doesn't seem right.
I understand that it's a game that can involve more mature themes and gameplay, and probably isn't reeeeeeeeally for super young folk, but I feel the way I'm running it mitigates this for the most part: there's no PVP (so no bullying can happen), I'm dealing with waaaaaay less serious themes and stakes, and I don't even include any circumstances where they fight any other humanoids -- strictly just heroes fighting big bad monsters and saving towns. You know the drill.
So yeah long story short(ish) the parents of the one child have called a meeting with HR to discuss the playing of this game at the YMCA. I have it on Sunday. I'm confident I'm gonna have to effectively state my case and explain why I think this is not only an okay thing to be doing, but actually in fact a good thing. I don't know if I'll be able to fully sway them if their mind is already made up, all I can do is just speak my truth haha.
I do whole-heartedly think this game can be super beneficial for young folk. I'll spare you my long form thoughts, but between the teamwork and communication required and rewarded, the problem solving (both ethically and logically and mathematically), AND the improvisation emphasized, I think it stimulates a young mind very well. Lets them escape their own world for a bit and take agency and feel they have control, something young people so desperately desire.
So in conclusion, I'm kinda just writing this to get it off of my chest and vent, BUT I guess my questions would be:

Or maybe you disagree with me and think I'm out of line here, which is totally fair too. Just looking to start some dialogue.

I know it is a hassle, but if you get to keep Dnd, you might want to start requiring permission slips. That way, you could avoid this in the future.
The_Law_Of_Pizza
This will make it less likely for the OP to get a surprise angry parent, but I don't like the precedent of demanding permission slips for a mundane board game.
It sets up an expectation that D&D is different in some way, and gives ammunition to these weirdos who are still trapped in the Satanic Panic - it lets them point to the permission slips and say, "Look, even your own policies admit that this is something to be hidden behind barriers and parental approval."
At a certain point we have to stand up to these people in society and tell them that they're being ridiculous and that we won't concede to their demands under any circumstances. That takes a great deal of backbone by the YMCA administration, though.

Geez. Really putting the "C" in YMCA. I imagine looking into how people fought back during the "Satanic Panic" might provide some good advice for this.
u/efrique had a great comment about handling a new round of the satanic panic

You can point the leadership and parents to the numerous studies showing the many ways playing D&D is beneficial for kids, too. One, for example.

I just looked through this thread, there's a ton of great stuff here.

D&D has also been shown to be useful in teaching kids about social skills, creative writing, theory of mind, mental math, team work, problem solving etc.

Update May 13, 2024
Made a post a few days ago about how I run a DnD campaign for some kids in an after-school program I run for the YMCA, and subsequently how the parents of one of the kids was trying to get the game banned and whole operation shut down. I wasn't sure the best way to make an update, but I linked the whole original post above so you can have a read if you'd like ^
So firstly genuine genuine genuine big thanks to everyone who took the time to read and respond with input and suggestions. It means a ton and really helped a lot. So I'm just gonna jump right in with what happened.
Firstly, I took the advice about getting testimonies from parents who were super happy that I was playing this game with their kids -- we weren't allowed to have outside visitors involved in the actual meeting with HR, but I got emails and messages from mostly every parent (besides the one complaining about it lmao) to voice their support and why they think this is not a harmful thing, and in fact actually a good thing. I really think this helped a lot and was a big factor, so thanks everyone who suggested. It's not something I would've thought to do on my own ahahah.
I didn't want to come in toooooo heavy with the articles and very clear scientific proof about the benefits of developing minds playing TTRPGs', because (as it turned out) this was actually more just conversational and "pleasant" than I thought it was gonna be, at least from HRs side. I did mention to them the multiple studies done on this exact scenario, but it turned out I didn't even really need them. There were definitely moments of tension, but this was a more civil conversation than I anticipated from all parties involved. I'm not sure if it was the fact that the parents who complained had to talk to me in person WITH my bosses and HR reps present and it calmed them down a bit? But yeah anyway.
I wish it was a more dramatic story, but basically I just levelled with them person to person.
People who said they were betting on it being a Christian, satanic-panic angle: you were right, mostly anyway. As in, that was definitely a main part of their argument. They are in fact Christian and were concerned, but it was really coming from a place of ignorance about what this game is about, and they specifically didn't understand the fact that the DM (me) can entirely control what the contents of it is. I'm assuming they just googled DnD and probably saw some things they didn't agree with, but once I explained that the way we were playing it included no demon spawn or worshipping, or any killing of other humans, or allowing of murder-hobo activity, they softened up a bit. I told them it's a strictly G/PG rated experience that I'm curating for them. And of course I explained the social and academic benefits of DnD, and how much of a bonding activity this is for the group, and how much their son in particular loves it. This helped big time.
Ironically, it was their other argument about wanting active engagement for their child (ie; sports lol) that was a little harder to combat. From their and HRs perspective, this whole program and the YMCAs MO IS in fact healthy active engagement. I explained that most days of the week we are doing just that. I'm a tennis instructor as well and have played sports all my life (and they know this), so I tried to assure them that I get their child a SOLID amount of engagement (plus free tennis lessons effectively haha). I'll save you the whole back and forth, but this was a majority of our 45 minute meeting.
Im trying to wrap this up with a bow but not sure exactly how, so I'll just finish with the bullet points from the end of the discussion:
• The game is not banned! HOORAY HOORAY!
• I am now only allowed to play it with them once a week (on Friday), but all things considered I'll take this as a win!
• and best of all, the complained parents are letting their kid continue to play!!!! I'm sending them a detailed summary of the contents of my game so they can look it over, but they said with it now "officially" only being once a week, and with a better understanding of what it actually is, they will let him to continue to play. I'm so unbelievably happy.
So boom. Happy ending. Again big thanks to everyone for giving their advice and linking resources; it helped so much and meant a lot. This is a big win for "the community" I feel, at the risk of sounding too corny. You are all the best. I love this game so much 🥹

OOP explains how they made DnD G/PG rated
So the method I've taken is that this is mainly an explorative and mystery solving campaign. There is combat occasionally, but it's heeeeeavy on the RP aspect of these aforementioned things (aka 7 kids screaming over each other lmao)
I briefly mentioned in the previous post that when I do involve combat I don't include any that js player versus any humanoids -- so no "killing" of bandits or raiders or pirates or anything resembling, it's strictly taking out big bad monsters, or a big spidebats/owlbear or whatever when it does happen. This takes a big amount of the potential nastiness out: Timmy cant go home saying "Mom I killed 4 dudes today!", regardless if he understands the deeply political and socio-economic rooted reasons why it may be justified he did that 🙄 hahahah.
So yeah eliminated that entirely, strayed away from words like "kill" or "dead" or certainly "murdered", and have a very very "heroes save the town from mishaps" type adventure. For a quick example our last plot hook/beat (which ended up taking up like 3 Fridays because of how long it can take with young kids hahaha) involved them stumbling into a town and discovering that it holds the map to an ancient treasure that is rumoured to be buried in a magical woods nearby. Maaaaaany puzzles and skill checks later they found it deep in the woods by a magic tree and had to answer (very basic) riddles from the speaking and living tree in order to get access to it. They succeeded and absolutely loved it and there was no combat at all.

2024.05.20 05:53 genxmormon Why Gen-X is leaving

Thinking about the purported details in this post (https://www.reddit.com/exmormon/comments/1cvvm4the\_church\_is\_hemorrhaging\_members\_insight\_from/), I have a few thoughts on why Gen-X is leaving in such large numbers. Much of this is my own experience as well as observations of my Gen-X peers.
  1. We're old enough to remember a totally different church full of vigor, activities, local adaptations in wards & stakes, thriving youth programs, etc.
  2. We're young enough to still have enough life left to make leaving a viable "2nd Half of Life" decision. Unlike our parents (OK, Boomer), we're not content to just ride it out holding fast to the thing we believed our whole lives.
  3. We were raised in the McConkie generation, or by McConkie generation parents. Thus, we believed the less correlated but highly exciting teachings that gave us answers to nearly all of life's questions. The current "we don't know" approach from leaders is foreign to us.
  4. We were raised to seek answers to our questions (vs shying away from them). So, when the internet and podcasts started to expose these real truths, we are more likely to do a deep dive...cause that's what we were trained to do.
  5. We were raised to KNOW that it was all true. So, when the truth claims fall apart, our foundation is rocked.
  6. We were not trained to be nuanced. This progressive mormonism where you can sort of pick your own interpretation of difficult topics is foreign to us. Some may be able to do it, but many of us can't wrap our minds around giving our whole heart and soul to a church that is just "good"
  7. We've paid A LOT of tithing so far. But, most of us are still in our earning years and face the prospect of paying A LOT more tithing. We're not going to do that to prop up a $250B church unless we really believe it's what God wants
  8. Our grown children are leaving in droves or are sympathetic to those who are. The picture of our idyllic years in the church with our grown kids has been altered. So, the barriers to leaving ourselves aren't nearly as daunting
  9. We have LGBTQ+ sons and daughters, many of whom are still teens or young adults. And, we're choosing our children over the church
  10. Many of us are in the years of our lives where we are in Bishoprics, RS Presidencies, Stake Leadership, etc. We've seen behind the curtain and it often doesn't resemble an organization run by Christ
  11. Our friends and family are leaving. While this varies by person, it was almost unheard of 20 years ago. Not only does this cause us to reconsider our own testimonies but we have a growing support network when we do step away
  12. In summary, the Church isn't true. When it comes right down it, we were raised in the one true and living church on the earth and then grew up. If it's not true, then it feels almost unethical to give our time, talents and everything we have to it.
What say you, fellow Gen-Xers? What would you add to this list?

2024.05.20 05:39 S0ng81rd Hold on, it's going to be okay.

There is someone out there reading this waiting for a message from someone that may be drawing my attention towards because of my topics I write about.
I am a former and currently struggling addict. I'm not perfect, I don't try to be someone I am not. I am blunt, honest, alone.... Mostly alone.... A lot!
I am a human being that has stumbled many upon many times..... I'm doing it again not all or all at once, but I did all in my past.
Let me break the ice and list some of my sins and addictions.
watching inappropriate films of all topics.
Fornication
Smoking
Drinking
Gossip
Gluttony
In a nice way to list it without the drama story attached to it. I'm guilty of it all.
Don't give in, even though you messed up today. I did too....
Just socializing, I take a drag of a cigarette and then another and then another....
Well, I just smoked and broke my promise again for the millionthteenth time.... So, I'll just smoke for tonight only......
It's 1am now, but I didn't fall asleep yet, so I can smoke until my day actually ends.
F* it, I'll just buy a pack because I'm already smoked yesterday and broke my promise.
You see my demons there!
Yeah, this is current and I'm ashamed and holding myself accountable. I told my person my struggles and allowed them to share their anger towards me for falling back into my old patterns. I still told them and I am working on myself. I am reminding myself where I was and how long I stopped and how far I've come and to not fall back into hurting my body anymore. To love myself more and not harm it because I am not afraid of dying. I need to stop wanting it to happen to me. I need to accept that my life has a purpose and masking my pain won't stop when I am hiding my emotions for a nicotine buzz when I take a break at work.
That is no excuse to pick up the habit. Let your coworkers do it without you. Don't go back to your old habits. Stop it!
That's my Dad yelling at me. I get him interrupting when I free write.
I want you to see that I struggle everyday. I miss smoking every day. I chose the other options to seek a substance over another. I am just like my father. I have an addictive personality and behavior pattern.
I also see where I need to work on myself and I get back in the game. I don't keep with the habit because I fell out of it for a weekend. My Dad won't shut up.
My father died of lung cancer and he never smoked and he is very upset at me for smoking so I could be with him in heaven. He cried next to me as I cried and I gave up singing. I left choir and I had throat problems when I was a senior in college. I didn't get to sing my recital to my father, he passed away before he saw me graduate.
He doesn't want anyone to give in to their addictions. He wishes he followed his dreams of being a service with God by his side. He gave into alcohol and pills. He sees me talking about him on here. I'm letting you see me for who I am and I am not afraid of how you read my story. This is real. This is me. Deal with it or move on.
Sorry about that side tangent. Suz showed up.
She helps me get my throat chakra open so I can share my feelings and stick up for myself. She is well aware of my past and been warning me ever since.
This is about addiction. This is about letting go.
They show up at the worst times, sorry you guys....
I am here to receive and share my story and I fall apart. I am being tested by my enemy and I am sharing my struggles to show my gratitude for awareness. I am more aware to see where I am falling short and work on nurturing those wounds to avoid the old habits of treating it. My inner child, my 20 year old self showed up and what I did back then was miss my Dad and smoke.
I can never fall too far, my Dad shows up and reminds me to write and he helps me get back on track with the topics I write about. It's him taking over my hands and I just start writing.
It's really cool. I miss him and it's weird how he does this, it took me a few tries after becoming very intoxicated with a substance I don't want to trigger you anymore..... Sorry....
I'm not the only one that has this problem. When some of us become intoxicated, we are more intune with spirits. It's not a psychotic break down. It took me a long time to see why my father kept escaping when he had no reason.
He had good reasons, but I wasn't old enough to understand. Until he passed, we are very close, he shares with me many memories and stories of my family I never knew. He taught me how to talk to my Grandmother through music. He lets me know how to handle my mom. He calms me down when I am having a breakdown and my arms hold my body in a hug. I don't move my body, I let my body move on its own. When I allow this to happen, especially when I drank, I saw my father in my memory hugging me tightly. That was when he taught me how to see and communicate with him.
I got used to wanting to be around him more, I kept trying to find how to bring him back, it only happens on special occasions. I don't get to decide how he wants to show up. He just does and I have to be ready to see his signs and feel every moment to enjoy the experience.
He told me today.
"Knock it off! Go write!"
So, here I am. I was wrong. This journey doesn't let me get away with much anymore. I have a purpose why I chose to stray away from God after I went to college and do this stuff.... My adult self is really mad for smoking and drinking so heavily.....
If you are still young, but feel like you did yourself enough damage you don't see the point in stopping......
Just stop.
There's no plan to it, you just do it. It's gonna suck. That part you got to fix is how you think about it once you stop.
This isn't me talking, this is still my Dad teaching me a lesson to not smoke. Because he died a terrible death and he doesn't want me to go the same way. We are working on forgiving each other in giving into our patterns we learned from our family patterns of raising kids. We all have a story. We all came from some form of trauma.
They want to show me how to stop repeating it. I failed this week. It's been a week, not gonna lie and I enjoyed it, but now, I feel regret. Because I do know better.
I know someone out there wants to be serious and stop, but feel alone without someone to show active encouragement.....
Be my cheerleader too!
I need one so I can stop messing up my clean lungs. I worked hard to get them there. I'm gonna get back on track and stop. I hope you are able to get a hold of your addictions too, Whatever it may be.
I feel a little weird about posting this, but they are double dog daring me to do it.
SO, don't judge, but yeah..... Here it is.... Unedited. All me.... Being weird.
Peace,
Tina

2024.05.20 05:34 Historical_Project00 Am I interpreting this study regarding HEPA filters and covid correctly? Trying to create a zero-covid household.

I feel like I am having such a blonde moment.
According to a study, “The air cleaner with the HEPA filter continuously removed the infectious SARS-CoV-2 from the air in a running-time-dependent manner, and the virus capture ratios were 85.38%, 96.03%, and >99.97% at 1, 2, and 7.1 ventilation volumes, respectively.” source: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35947419/
I know that there are larger air filters out there that clean more square footage faster, but I want to take the Levoit Core 300 air filter as a unit of example. It apparently can completely filter a 1095 sq/ft house in one hour.
So if it take ~7 ventilation volumes to basically fully clean covid from the air, does that mean that I would need to buy seven Levoit Core 300 air filters to clean a 1095 sq/ft house of covid in an hour?
I may have an opportunity to live in a covid-cautious household. However one of the potential roomies- while they are wearing N95’s in public- is very active in live music and wants to work in teaching. Despite his N95 he recently got covid while around a large group of people, so I know sometimes covid can slip through even despite our best efforts.
I’m hoping that buying a mega shit ton of large HEPA filters for our house would protect other roommates from catching covid that stays in a room after a positive roommate has left. I can’t wear an N95/KN95 mask due to a nose injury and this is the only way I could feel safe in a home with roommates.
Ideally I would love to create a household where there is so much HEPA filtration that covid could be cleared from the air in a room in like 10 minutes. I’m still trying to calculate the math on that regarding how many HEPA filters I’d need (with the very limited scientific research we have on the subject). I know that would be extremely expensive but honestly our health is #1 priority and an investment.
I’m also wondering about a UV light sanitizer since I’ve heard they are very effective. I know nothing about these and have done zero research. There aren’t great reviews on Amazon for light sanitizer lamps, and doesn’t UV light damage skin? I thought we’re supposed to wear sunscreen to protect ourselves from that kind of light…

2024.05.20 05:32 squatsandthoughts Passed! 3AT - Took it at home & Here is my advice for actual learning/mastery

I took my exam yesterday (May 18) at home, and I found out today I passed 3AT! I did not believe I was going to pass. I absolutely thought I had failed and was planning on when to take the exam again. Like others, I thought I would share some of what I did and some recommendations especially if you are taking it at home. Of note, I used to work with college students and teach them how to improve their academic skills (not memorizing but mastering material, not freaking out at an exam, etc) so I wrote this with academic coaching in mind.
Things That Helped Me/My advice:
I hope this helps someone out there. Sorry it was long but glad you made it to the end!

2024.05.20 05:17 Mobile-Emu-7140 23[M4F] Ontario/Anywhere - Legal Nerd Looking for Someone Fun!??

Hey! Hope you're doing well. It seemed like a good idea posting here and my gut is mostly right!
I'm a 23 y/o guy from Ontario, Canada. Currently, I am working at an office here doing some more basic legal work. On the side, I am trying to start my own practice, as I am licensed to practice law here. So I am very passionate about that and the law in general. Particularly with Human Rights and the many issues that renting tenants deal with here. (In fact, I was actually at a hearing representing a client just a few days ago. Loved it, too!).
For reference, I am 6'0", white, wear glasses, 230lbs, shorter-medium jet-black hair, and have brown eyes. Have photos available as well!
Recently, I've been keeping pretty active. Been losing weight like crazy and I have a simple diet that I stick to. So a decent amount of time is spent being active and working.
Besides that, I love to cook. I cook almost every day and I would like to think that I'm pretty good at it. I just BBQ'd some ribs on the weekend that I would love to show you 😩
I am also really into video games. Mostly whatever I can get into after work. Recently its been a lot of Balatro and WoW. I would also love to try other games with someone else. I love most types of games.
Also completely obsessed with music. I play guitar and have been trying to teach myself piano. Love most types of music and recently I have been listening to a lot of MF DOOM and Madlib beat tapes, along with Kate Bush, Leonard Cohen, and more. Could go on forever about most types of music.
There's a lot more but ideally I am looking for this person: Someone fun and educated, enjoys a longer conversation and just wants to get to know someone. No real physical preferences!
