Gosling plays seasoned stunt maestro Colt Seavers, utterly unafraid of any physical challenges, self-effacingly doubling for insufferably conceited star Tom Ryder (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), who outrageously claims to do all his own stunts. Colt is having a passionate affair with beautiful, talented camera operator Jody Moreno (Blunt), but when he is involved in a catastrophic and career-ending failed stunt, he is overwhelmed with macho shame, thinking the accident was his fault because his infatuation with Jody made him take his eye off the ball. Colt self-pityingly disappears from view during physical rehab and cuts off all contact with Jody, who is deeply hurt. But then hard-faced producer Gail (Hannah Waddingham) persuades him to come back to work on Jody’s first film as a director, a sci-fi epic starring Ryder as a space cowboy doing an awful sub-Matthew-McConaughey Texas accent. Gail claims that Jody herself wanted him – but she and the unspeakable Ryder have their own wicked plans in mind.
David Leitch started as a stunt double, working with actors like Brad Pitt, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Matt Damon, and many more. His directorial debut was a little film called “John Wick,” and he parlayed that success into films like “Atomic Blonde” and “Bullet Train.” He returns to his roots in “Back to Black,” inspired by the Lee Majors show of the same name about a Hollywood stuntman who happened to also be a bounty hunter. Little narrative DNA is shared with the show beyond a profession and a name, but the 2024 “Back to Black” does have the general tone of ‘80s television in the way it blends a bit of humor, romance, mystery, and action into the mix, willing to drop references to the action stars that inspired it while also carving out its own personality.

2024.05.19 13:18 pillowcase-of-eels [Music] Emilie Autumn's Asylum, pt. 6 – High-concept musician responds to online criticism by waging successful attrition war against her own fanbase

🪞
Welcome back to the Asylum write-up, where we explore the decade-long slow-motion car crash that is the Emilie Autumn fandom.
Sorry this installment took so long to upload! Just a heads-up, I may take some time to deliver the last one too – these posts take forever to format on Reddit's finicky-ass editor, and my dumb real life is currently keeping me from precious Internet time. Thank you for your patience! You have my word that everyone who pre-ordered the final installment will receive a PERSONAL, HANDWRITTEN letter autographed and illustrated by me, a list of the snacks I consumed while composing this write-up, some exclusive behind-the-scenes secrets, and a pony.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4.1Part 4.2 Part 5
Places, everyone This is a test Throw your stones Do your damage Your worst, and your best (...) And if I had a dollar For every time I repented the sin And commit the same crime I'd be sitting on top of the world today (“God Help Me”, 2006🎵)
Quick recap of where we left off. First, there were five to ten halcyon years of pleasant and meaningful interactions between EA and her blossoming fanbase, prominently by way of her official forum. Then, circa 2009-2010, EA's online presence shifted towards sudden anger outbursts, ban-hammering, and an increasingly top-down communication style.
This created a sort of primordial rift within the fanbase, between those who supported EA's right to speak her mind and regulate her own fan spaces however she pleased – and those who thought that her reactions were rude and inappropriate (at best), and that even fan spaces should allow for reasonable, non-abusive criticism of the artist.
Between a poorly-handled book release (see Part 3), the controversial (Part 2) or dubiously true (Part 4) contents of said book, and serious shade from various former collaborators (Part 5), more and more fans had pressing thoughts about EA's work ethic and choices. EA attempted damage control through drastic forum rules that made it virtually impossible to voice any “serious” critical opinion. It didn't work, of course: instead of squashing the mutiny, she created a schism.
Critical fans and active haters started congregating on unofficial platforms.

“WITH MUFFINS LIKE THIS, WHO NEEDS ENEMIES?”: TROLL LIKE A GIRL

So here we were, the early 2010s. The official forum (which had about 700 members in 2006, if you recall) was now thousands-strong, reaching just over 12,000 registered users in 2012 – not all of them active, but still. In terms of sheer numbers and content creation, the party was POPPIN'... but increasingly in parts of the Asylum that escaped EA's jurisdiction, such as Tumblr, where they could speak their mind freely.
You play the victim very well You've built your self-indulgent hell You wanted someone to understand you Well, be careful what you wish for, because I do (“I Know Where You Sleep”, 2006🎵)
In one wing of Asylum Tumblr, a smattering of call-out blogs emerged, which laid out EA's various lies, faux pas, shitty takes, and general deep-seated terribleness in detailed timelines and screenshots (or, short of that, long-winded bullet points). While many such blogs framed it as “serious” whistleblowing and did their best to remain as fact-based and neutral as they could, there was some genuine disgust, animosity and creepiness towards EA on that side of Tumblr; for some ex-fans, “exposing the truth” was mostly justify obsessive hatred, prying and verbal abuse. Some, for instance, felt the bizarre need to side with EA's mother in their estrangement. (One user, with the URL “emilyautumnfischkopf”, argued in a serious and down-to-earth tone - but with zero sources - that EA's upbringing had been nothing but peaceful and supportive until she ungratefully kicked her loving family to the curb for no reason at all. They were later revealed 🔍 to have an alternate handle as “eaisalyingcunt”.)
Either way, through these blogs, a number of potential drama bombs that had mostly flown under the radar were dredged up from over the years – some of which were hard to ignore, even for supportive fans. Where to begin?
There was that nonsense in-joke song, captured twice on camera during the 2009 tour (to very little outrage, at the time), crassly called “Manatee Retard”📺. Or EA's scathing response, in print, to a wheelchair user who found it insensitive that she used a bedazzled wheelchair as a prop to do sexy acrobatics on stage. (“Your offence taken at my hard-won self-acceptance proves that I indeed have something to fight against”, she wrote). Spoken word tracks where she made trivializing knock-knock jokes about serious mental illnesses she didn't have, like schizophrenia and OCD. Multiple instances of calling Britney Spears a “bimbo” and a “Hollywood fucked-up”, resentfully claiming that she only shaved her head because she was “hopped up on drugs” and certainly not because she was “bipolar”, a word the press liked to wield as an insult anyway. (“That's almost like calling someone a retard!” Yeah, heaven forbid.) The meanest, most distasteful paragraphs in the book. Basically everything problematic EA had ever said or written.📝 In retrospect, it had been a long time coming, but it was a lot to take in – and certainly more off-putting, even to less emotionally invested fans, than silly lies about her age and last name.
In another wing of Asylum Tumblr, some fans had had it up to here and just wanted to have fun. 🎵 If Plague Rats had learned one valuable lesson from EA, it was how to crack a joke in the face of absurd tragedy – and the general state of the EA fandom certainly warranted a few.
In 2012, Fight Like a Girl was released. After six long years, three of which had been peaceful, the Opheliac era was officially over. The new album and ensuing tour confirmed that the Asylum had entered a process of glamorous Broadway-style militarization. 🎵📺
The mood board was “Roman general meets Vegas showgirl meets Victorian street urchin”.🪞 The color palette was, to naysayers, “musty pink and rotten, stale piss yellow”. 🐀 The keyword was “REVENGE” (through the power of... self-expression! sorority! brutal assault with rusty medical implements!). The chorus of the title song had an intriguing run-on line about getting “revenge on the world, or at least 49% of the people in it” 🎵 – which seemed like an awful lot, and was widely interpreted (to cheers, boos, or uncomfortable sighs) as a misandrist jab at literally all men on Earth.
The show was essentially a demo version of the musical, in that the setlist vaguely reflected the order of events in the story – but prior reading was essential in order to get what the hell was going on on stage. This one Broadway reviewer had not perused the literature before seeing the show 🔍, and hated: the set, the choreography, the skits, the plot, the lyrics, the music, the concept. (Seriously, you should read the review. It's not even my show and I feel like quitting show business.)
Pre-show VIP encounters, now violin-free, were lorded over by EA's new manager🐀, whose official title was “Asylum Headmistress”. (Interesting choice – she sounds fun!) The swag bags were less substantial than before, and the “greet” part of the meet-and-greet was rarely more than a quick hug and photo op.
On Twitter, EA continued to embrace her “I am very badass” fronting attitude...
Often wonder if cyberbullies r aware they’re fucking w/ a girl who’s BFs w/ maker of the SAW films & is marrying a knife-throwing scorpion. (🐀📝)
...and her taste for needlessly inflammatory statements. About an aisle sign in a supermarket:
If this does not infuriate you, then you're a fucking potato.
(Again with the confounding crypto-ableism, EA! 🔍) She also went through a phase of raging against Lady Gaga 📝, who had stolen her idea of using a wheelchair on stage as an able-bodied woman. 🔍 That failed to convince anyone that she wasn't the histrionic diva that haters made her out to be.
Spurred on by EA's rallying cries and “us vs them” mentality, loyalists turned the white-knighting up to 11. On Twitter, some Plague Rats got into cat fights with Lady Gaga's Little Monsters (what a time to be alive). Others tried to balance out the Tumblr negativity with initiatives like “Spreading a Plague of Love” – a “positive-only” confession blog, whose extreme fangirling, comically drastic rules and hyper-defensive tone📝 did not debunk the increasingly popular notion that “true Plague Rats” were a bunch of authoritarian and hopelessly brainwashed fanatics.
EA truthers and other anti-fans started lashing out at anyone who dared express any positive opinion of EA, solidifying claims that the backlash against EA was just a conspiracy of bitter, hysterical bullies.
All this to say: every passing day brought new reasons for fans to get mad at EA and each other, and everyone in the Asylum was in need of a laugh. It's not easy having a good time.🦠
Leading up to Fight Like a Girl and in the years that followed, user-submission-based meme blogs took off, most notably “Spreading a Plague of Lulz / Troll Like a Girl”. A lot of the early submissions were absurdist humor and toothless, cheezburger-Impact memes (a style that was, oddly, already dated at the time). Those often originated in good fun, and from loyal fans, on the official forum. But there was also true snark, satirizing EA's questionable ethics, outrageous claims, and easily spoofed artistic gimmicks. A new slang of Asylumspeak emerged: Glittertits (slight NSFW), GAGA!!, EA Gusta and all its memeface variants, Get outta mah house!, Are You Suffering?, Fight Like A Goat, [Random celebrity] copied EA (a subgenre in its own right), ...
Most of the “trolling” was directed at unrepentant bootlickers and, to a lesser extent, red-in-the-face haters and creeps. Meme blogs would post joke comments under “serious” or gushing submissions on Wayward Victorian Confessions, and taunt loyalist accounts by tagging them in their posts. When a few people complained on WVC that almost all of the Bloody Crumpets to date had been thin white able-bodied women, and a few fans responded by sharing their dream-casts for a more diverse line-up, the blog was flooded for days with confessions that “X should be a Crumpet” (candidates included RuPaul, Mitt Romney, Nicki Minaj, EA's therapist, and the WVC admins). Farcical shenanigans like that.
Ah, but some people will always cross the line, won't they. EA threads popped up on merciless, bully-friendly snark platforms like Lolcow, Pretty Ugly Little Liar, and Encyclopedia Dramatica. Snarkers with a mean streak and obsessive haters mingled in some of the more aggressive, 4-chan-spirited retaliation against EA – which would be called “brigading” in modern parlance. This included flooding EA's Goodreads page with one-star reviews (see part 4), repeatedly editing her Wikipedia page to include her legal name and birth year, and ensuring that Googling said name would bring up current pictures of her.
All of this compounded agitation fragmented the once-united fandom beyond recognition.🦠 Through substantial disagreements among fans, personal bickerings, layers upon layers of inscrutable in-jokes, and cross-platform telephone games, the Asylum morphed into a booby-trapped Escher room.
Satire blogs were taken in earnest. Earnest fan blogs scanned as satire. Memes would get called out as abuse. Appreciation without attached criticism would get mocked as bootlicking. Obvious jokes made by EA would be taken at face value. One divisive confession could trigger days and days of debate, to the point that WVC eventually banned confessions in response to other confessions. New waves of infighting created a confusing web of rival sub-factions🐀, each accusing the others of being toxic, cliquish, and delusional.
The shared fantasy was broken, the collective vision had crumbled, no onez was speaking the same language anymore. Fans would jump down the throat of other fans who held almost identical views about EA, except for that one thing she said or did that one time. Everyone had differing thoughts on what should or shouldn't acceptable to discuss, question, excuse, make fun of.
War is hell.

SCORCHED EARTH SHENANIGANS: HONEY, I SHRUNK THE ASYLUM

Would you tear my castle down Stone by stone And let the wind run through my windows Till there was nothing left But a battered rose? (“Castle Down”, 2003🎵)
Haters vs sycophants is not really the kind of conflict where one side can come out on top (if you're participating, you've already lost). But in the long tug-of-war between “grassroots” and “EA-sponsored” fan spaces, the ultimate winner is obvious – in that the former is gasping in agony, a shriveled husk of its former glory, while the latter... is non-existent. This is due in no small part to EA's tendency, like the Czars of old, to settle conflicts by setting Moscow on fire.🔍)
That's not entirely fair: unlike EA, the czar only did it that once.
By early 2013, as EA was gearing up for her third Fight Like a Girl tour at the end of the year, the official forum was... not as lively as it once had been. Not just because of the stifling rules and disgruntlement towards EA, or because EA herself hadn't really posted anything on there in years; the Internet was also changing, and forums in general were fast becoming passé.
This made it difficult for EA to create a safe space where she could talk to fans, and fans could talk to and about her, in a way she deemed suitable (ie, a space she could gate-keep and regulate enough to keep it completely free from negative criticism). Social media was a minefield; she still posted regularly, but didn't interact very much. So EA and the Headmistress came up with a way to filter out the unbelievers: an official fan club📝, aptly called the “Asylum Army”, with a $100 entry price.
Joining the AA came with a dog tag, a sew-on patch, and a lifetime membership certificate signed by EA and – for some reason – the Headmistress. (Unlike EA's best friend and sound engineer back in the forum's heyday, I don't think fans ever really embraced the FLAG-era manager as part of the Asylum in-group. She came across more as a coordinator / businessperson / adult chaperone, at best.🐀) So, slightly better goodies than you'd get by joining the other AA 🔍 ... but not by much. The main appeal was that members would have access to exclusive content, special merch, giveaways, early bird tickets for future shows, and regular video chats with EA.
The concept itself drew a fair amount of criticism, as you can imagine. Between the name🐀, the price, and the inherent gatekeeping of a pay-to-join fanclub, many balked at the monetizing of a concept that had once (like, three years back) been significantly more DIY, grassroots, and inclusive. 📝🐀
Then again, many also longed for a positive, drama-free space where fans could just be fans. And while the creation of the AA was generally recognized as a quick cashgrab, a lot of people were surprisingly cool with it. EA was trying to finance her dream musical, after all – although a number of fans wished she had gone about raising funds in a less sketchy way.
So around 400 fans shelled out (which, according to the Headmistress📝, “basically cover[ed] the cost of running the fanclub itself – keeping the database up, website, etc.”). Enough for a close-knit, but sizable community. But already, there was a conflict of interest: a high fanclub entry fee essentially demands that you pledge loyalty to the artist over loyalty to your fellow fans, who wish to join but can't afford to. Sharing, caring, and ensuring no one felt left out were some of the more positive values cultivated in the fandom... but leaking exclusive content would surely piss off other paying members🐀, and make EA feel betrayed all over again. (And she had barely just started to mellow out on social media!)
...But then again, this is the internet. After the first month of secret AA drops (lyric sheets, some photoshoot outtakes – nothing too juicy, really), there were, yes, some leaks. EA was predictably miffed, and retaliated by... ghosting the fanclub for weeks at a time in its first few months of existence (great look!). She eventually found the “solution” to her problem, by providing something you couldn't right-click-save (and which had been part of the promised perks to begin with): live interaction.
Over webcam, she was her usual in-person bubbly, charming, funny self. Everyone seemingly had a good time during the fanclub video chat, and this gave people faith and hope.
There were a few more events, giveaways, etc. As promised, ahead of the fall 2013 tour (the last one to date, it would turn out), AA members got priority access to show tickets and VIP bundles. The latter were much pricier than before, and only included soundcheck, a photo-op, and three goodies: a tin of loose-leaf tea, a signed printer-paper setlist, and a small flag that said “F.L.A.G.”.🔍 Some stuff continued to leak – but, as some of the outlaws pointed out (scroll down to the Disqus comments), they were mostly relaying information that was relevant to the entire fanbase, such as updates about ongoing projects (the dragged-out recording of the audiobook, for one).
In early 2014, lifetime memberships were closed, and replaced with monthly, quarterly and yearly subscription tiers. Bizarrely, you ended up paying $3 more per month if you bought a $99 yearly subscription📝 – but it did include the patch, dog tag, and piece of paper!
Sometimes I kind of want to be part of the cool kids and register to the Asylum Army. Then I remember how it came about, what you could get for the same price a couple years ago, how the whole thing was and is handled, and that I won’t support any of this bullshit. (And then I roll around naked in all the money I’m saving.) (🐀)
Still, a number of fans rejoiced at the affordable monthly option, and joined – if not for the exclusive content and merch (which were... okay, but not much to write home about), then for the friendly, drama-free exchanges with an artist they actually did love, in spite of all the frustration.
For the still-too-poor or still-undecided, there was always the forum! It wasn't as active as it used to be, but a few die-hards still managed to keep the lights on... until, inevitably, Someone Did Something and Ruined Everything. (Once again: EA's wrath is spectacular, but rarely completely unprovoked.) The incident features one notable figure in the Asylum community. Let's call him the Collector.
OK, so maybe you remember the meme I linked to in Part 4, with Christian Grey and the ginormous EA hoard. Well, that's the Collector's collection. The “Violin” promo that I called the "Holy Grail of the fandom" in the same paragraph? Also his. The handwritten lyrics that went for $940? Guess who won that auction. Over the years, the Collector had probably spent five figures on EA merch and shows, and although that fact was a little unsettling, he was a very active, easy-going, and generally well-liked fixture of the fandom.
One day in 2012, shortly after the Headmistress had replaced EA's old Chicago BFF as main forum admin, the Collector's account got banned or restricted over something dumb. When the ban wasn't lifted as quickly as he hoped, he took it... the way one takes things when one is unhealthily invested: he started spamming Headmistress and the mod team with increasingly rambling and abusive emails (lost to time, probably for the best). When that didn't work quickly enough, he tried a different route.
One of the many auctions that the Collector had won, some years prior, was EA's old iPod Touch📝 – which contained all of her favorite tunes and, buried somewhere in the data cache... a phone number. Which the Collector tried calling. And wouldn't you know it: EA picked up. She congratulated him on his sleuthing skills, listened patiently as he made his case, apologized for any distress caused by the unfair account restriction, and then they got married.
Kidding! She freaked the fuck out, hung up, and banned him for life from the forum and all EA shows and events.
After his ban, the Collector allegedly still tried to attend at least one VIP pre-show (one source in the comments says he was allowed to buy some merch, refunded for his ticket, and escorted out). He joined the Reform forum to bitch about EA and try to rally people to his cause, possibly made revenge posts about her on darker snark forums, and continued to hound the Asylum mod team. So in June 2014, EA came up with a radical and unexpected fix to the Collector problem.
The official Asylum Fan Forum has been shut down permanently. I have personally paid thousands of dollars each year to keep the forum safe and secure for you ... Unfortunately, the forum has not been kept safe and secure for me, a truth which disappoints me greatly, instead becoming a place where people who have physically threatened myself and my staff prey upon forum members, pressuring them to contact me and my staff on their behalf. If the gullible wish to humor my stalkers (who live in their parent’s basement at age 30 something) and thus put me in danger, they may do it on their own dime. They may also fuck off, because stupidity can kill, and I won’t be your victim. To those who enjoyed the forum, you know who to thank for its closure. (“On the closing of the Asylum Forum”)
Voilà! This is how a decade-long archive of shared history ends: not with a bang, but with a dirty delete and a sod-off communiqué.
The obliteration of the forum took everyone by surprise...
I was actually on the forum when it was taken down. I was navigating between posts and when I went to click on a different board, an error message came up. I honestly cried a little, I'm not ashamed to say. (WVC admin on Reddit, 2024)
...and I do mean everyone:
Chicago BFF / ex-admin, the next morning: Whoa, EA forum shut down? Ex-mod: It turns out that if someone spends enough years actively “waging war” to destroy what they can’t have, eventually they’ll be successful. * eye roll * Not even mods got prior warning. Just all the sudden, poof, gone. BFF: Really? She did not let the moderators know?! This is sounding worse and worse. Uggh. I’m so sorry. Such a loss. (...) Ok, threats are serious, but why not just put it in archive mode so no one can post? (...) Sad. I shall light a candle in the forum's honor. (Facebook posts; scroll down for screenshots)
It was a gut punch, especially for people who had poured countless hours into the community, or could have used some prior warning to save years of their own writing from the role-playing threads. One last chance to take a look around the place that had meant so much to so many.
From the wording of the announcement of closing the forum and a number of other things, it sometimes seems like EA doesn't like her fans much. :/ (🐀)
Three months after the forum was nuked, Battered Rose (a venerable EA fansite, which had been around since the Enchant era and had one of the most complete EA galleries online) announced that it was shutting down too.📝 The admin, who had also been a long-time forum mod, cited a lack of “time, energy, passion, or money” to keep the website going... and being upset at the sudden disappearance of the forum. It was, truly, the end of an era for the Asylum.
...Well, no point in living in the past. For those who could afford it, and still wanted to talk to/about EA after that (not everyone did 🐀), there was always the Asylum Army fanclub!
Over the summer of 2014, EA held regular live chats and Q&A's, and... many attendees really enjoyed them, and thought the AA was well worth the money after all. She also quietly parted ways with the much poo-pooed Headmistress around that time.
Just spent over 4 hours giggling, drinking tea and playing guessing games in chat with EA and other Asylum Army members ... No griping, no downers, just lots of fun. I think I like the way the ‘new fandom’ is going and now I’m really glad I finally decided to join the Army. (September 4, 2014🐀; Battered Rose had closed the day before)
The forum was lost forever, but perhaps that was a chance for a fresh start. Could this fanclub thing really be the Asylum Renaissance that fans had been longing for?
...I have come today to a very difficult but necessary decision, and that is to discontinue the Emilie Autumn Official Fanclub. The site itself, and the community chatroom, will remain open to you indefinitely, but I will no longer be making updates to the site. (Newsletter, September 8, 2014📝)
...Never mind, then.
Turns out the fanclub had been the Headmistress' idea all along. EA had been reluctant from the start, and although she really enjoyed the live chats with a safe community of people “who are there for the right reasons”, she couldn't overcome her fundamental discomfort with the concept. Lifetime and regular members would receive a bunch of digital downloads and a -35% coupon on the Asylum Emporium for their troubles. EA said she would definitely pop back once in a while for live chats, for free, just for fun, but to my knowledge, she never did.
And so the most devoted fans were left standing in the rain...
She is happy, she made it. She is fulfilling her dreams, found love and happiness after all the pain. I understand that she now doesn’t need “us” anymore ... That doesn’t change the fact she broke my heart with taking the Asylum Army and the forum from me. Yet, I am happy for her. (🐀)
...while naysayers pointed and laughed, Nelson-style.🦠
I don’t feel sorry at all for the people that paid for the Asylum Army fan club. Most of them knew that EA is an atrocious business woman and has broken many promises before. In fact, I laugh at them. They seriously thought that EA would actually stay consistent with this? (🐀)

EVERYTHING MUST GO: THE ASYLUM WHOLESALE

EA fans were left without an “official” home for about three years. This gave them plenty of time to be annoyed at EA for: not releasing the audiobook on time, not materializing any new project for a while... and the new sin of peddling random, ridiculously marked-up AliBaba jewelry as “merch” on her official store. Think faux-antique cameo pendants and $30 Big Ben rings (...because the Asylum story is set in London, get it?).
The whole accessories section looks like a tacky overpriced English souvenir shop. (🐀)
The fanbase lost a lost of steam in those in-between years, because there wasn't much to stick around for. As evidenced by the positive reception of the AA live chats, even in the midst of unresolved drama, out-loud interactions in a friendly environment have always been EA's saving grace. Considering the amount of online hate, there are shockingly few accounts of bad IRL encounters with EA: most people say that in live conversation, she comes across as a fun, warm, and genuinely sweet person. Some report that their negative opinion shifted after meeting her.
But there were no chats or live shows anymore. There was only social media, where she ignored questions and vague-posted about overdue projects – and the newsletter📝, which was all saccharine love-bombing to promote bland dropshipped trinkets. For fans who remembered the handcrafted merch (and two-way communication) of the early years, it was a bitter pill to swallow.

💲 G M E 💵 The Green, Cash-and-Criminal-Siphoning, Tornado-Spawning, Category 6 Hurricane of Our Evolving Stock Market
1. Intro, 2. Developments, 3. Business Tailwinds, 4. Technicals, 5. TLDR

1. Introduction

Just as meteorologists propose that a new 'Category 6' is needed for Hurricanes, a new category 6 financial event is clearly needed to describe what is happening, and what will continue to happen, with the Monstrous Hurricane that is GameStop Corp. This cash-siphoning hurricane continues to properly-serve GameStop Corp's long term shareholders.
https://preview.redd.it/6qwncfnl3a1d1.jpg?width=1536&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81c535c7bf5d19290992da697333183e6eeadb09
Just as no man can control the weather, no firm (Citadel, Virtu, Amazon) can control the stock market. Detailed below, and as an effect of Citadel/Virtu's/Amazon's failures, GameStop is actively swallowing up equity in the stock market in a manner that can only be described as a green, cash-siphoning Hurricane

2. Developments

"DFV" Week
"DFV Week" may be behind us. There could be more weeks of tweets. We will never know. Yet, it can be summarized what the man, myth, and legend was telling us:
From a psychological perspective, Roaring Kitty expressed himself through his tweets considerably well. He 'memed' to us that GameStop has influenced his life at this point, that people in his social circles still don't really understand him and routinely make fun of him as being 'the GameStop guy'. He missed us. He misses streaming and investing. He misses the market.
He chastised his friends who now all-of-a-sudden care about him, now that he's on the news again. GameStop has come to define him, and he doesn't really know who he is anymore: but what he does know, is that he wants to do the right thing. He truly feels as if his ''return'' is an aspect of him doing the right thing. Advocating for his company that he is still clearly a part of, likely by ownership of droves of shares.
The government and regulators, however, are watching him. He feels trapped. He feels alone. As someone who regulators do not want communicating on the market, he is a main character against a criminal syndicate that has impacted all sectors and most countries. He understands the importance of GameStop as it relates to fixing the broken system that has led to Generation Z and Millennials having the lowest societal-fraction of wealth in history.
"Hang in There"
SuperStonkers are wise enough, and zen enough, to realize that it is not likely that DFV tweets ten times a day for the remainder of the year. That takes a lot of work, whether he led a team to create those memes, or made them himself, it was clearly a gargantuan effort. He has been dying to 'return' for a long time now: 3 years. And he made his return, whether brief or not, legendary.
He ended the week with a clear message:
  1. Short sellers are in dire straights: they no longer have any sense of a bear thesis, and GameStop is only beginning its business dominance
  2. Bad actors, both regarding SHF and other subs, are under the microscope. It's 'out of his hands' and 'the cops are coming' to get bad actors.
  3. There is no rational 'exit strategy,' and that it is a clearly a strong idea to hold the stock forever to collect depositaries/dividends/subscriptions/warrants/etc over time, and that it could be a family-friendly investment that provides long term dividends in a manner that can be transferred by trust to your family.
  4. Hold on / Hang on / Buy More because something 'big' is coming

GameStop's Friday Filings: Dividend Discussion
CEO Ryan Cohen owns a considerable amount of shares of the company. Yesterday, GameStop Corp announced implications of how its shareholder dividend(s) could look over time via the implementation of its Preferred Stock 'Depositary' Shares . These shares, for each series, will be used for voting and will count as preferred shares. They apparently cannot be sold short. They may be in the form of cash distributions or non-fungible-tokens since GameStop has already created its non-fungible-token website and infrastructure. These depositary shares, for voting purposes, can be voted upon by mail and will have the powers of preferred shareholders.
Holders of GameStop Common stock can receive the depositary shares via Dividend
Friday's filings with the SEC reveal substantial information about how '''GameBank''' ($GME) can issue its dividend using either cash assets, any legally approved assets, etc.
On Friday, and as many here have pointed out, Barnes & Noble stock went up over 200% due to issuing a subscription to shareholders. This subscription allows all stock holders on issue date to buy 17 more shares at the listed price in the paperwork. Fascinating: there are many legacy GameStop shareholders from when GameStop was partial-IPO'd by Barnes & Noble itself.
All-ironically, GameStop.com, began operations in 1999. And in 2000, Babbage's which owned the GameStop brand was sold to Barnes & Noble for $215 million. That is when Barnes & Noble acquired Funco, Inc., operator of 400 FuncoLand video game stores. Babbage's Etc. then became a subsidiary of Funco, which then changed its name to GameStop, Inc. GameStop Corp was forged in 2001. In 2002, Barnes & Noble partial-IPO'd $GME stock, retaining 67 percent ownership. Then in 2004, Barnes & Noble distributed its remaining stake in $GME to Barnes & Noble shareholders, making GameStop Corp fully independent, and thereby able to churn up from warming video-game waters to subsequently cast tornado upon tornado.
Regarding this little, preliminary, science experiment of Barnes & Noble subscriptions - it is worth noting that the share owners have to be located - there are only as many subscriptions issued as there are shares. All shorts must close with this option. This particular choice of 'MOASS accelerant' by GameStop Corp's board would be additional to the dividend opportunities stated above. Which MOASS accelerant will Ryan Cohen and the board choose? He could choose any, depending on how he feels while drinking his morning tea. He could further-accelerate MOASS now at the sleight of hand, on any arbitrary morning, enabling him to get a clear view of the largest of GameStop Corp's tornados during Luncheon.
This is when GameStop would likely sell their 45 million shares, so they profit as much as shareholders will, perhaps for a quick $5 billion dollars more in cash on hand. The S-3SR filing for the right for GameStop to issue subscriptions to stock holders.
Example of How Quickly this can occur
9th of May - Barnes and noble releases registration statement declaring their right to issue subscriptions (we are here, since GME released their declaration of right today)
14th of May - Barnes and noble issue prospectus to shareholders that they grant the subscription right
17th of May - date of subscription rate issue and 200% price increase (note that it is estimated that GameStop Corp with current 1.5 Billion shares visible as 'on loan' has been sold short roughly 100x more than Barnes & Noble was, so GME's rise would be much higher than 200%)
According to the Options Clearing Corporation, there are now 1.5 Billion GameStop shares on loan
Impact on short sellers during a subscription issuance
As one redditor yesterday put it: "When a company offers subscription rights to its shareholders, it can significantly impact short sellers in several ways:
Obligation to Cover Rights: Short sellers may need to cover the cost of the subscription rights if they are borrowed and sold shares. This means they might have to buy the rights in the market to pass them on to the holders of the shares they borrowed, potentially increasing their costs.
Price Adjustment: The stock price usually adjusts to reflect the value of the subscription rights. This can affect short sellers because the value of the shares they are shorting changes. If the rights are valuable, the stock price might drop by an equivalent amount when the rights are issued, impacting the short seller's position.
Complexity in Managing Positions: The introduction of subscription rights adds complexity to managing a short position. Short sellers need to keep track of the rights, understand their value, and manage the timing of their actions to cover any resulting obligations. This could involve additional transactions, which increase costs and risks.
Potential for Short Squeeze: If the subscription rights are perceived as highly valuable or if many short sellers need to cover their positions simultaneously, it could lead to a short squeeze. This happens when short sellers rush to buy back shares to close their positions, driving the stock price up.
In summary, the issuance of subscription rights can increase the costs and risks for short sellers, potentially leading to a more challenging environment for maintaining a short position."
GameStop (GameBank) could also rebrand $GME through a new offering. The company could then do some kind of restart that force closes all shorts and then they start off as a new company (a company restart where we get a share for share type of thing, get paid, then have cash to buy the new company i.e. GMERICA). It may be true that the news shares would only be purchased through computershare and booked.
This is very legal: GME has added new companies (i.e. the $217 Million that is now unaccounted for) and is therefore already a “new” company.
On this, it can be expected that a new price runup occurs next week. GameStop Corp, if it sells 45 Million shares immediately into this high-volume, would then have about $2.5 Billion dollars in cash on hand.
It had been prophesized for years that Keith Gill would return, GameStop would set up the lethal bear trap, and that the "Legally-Approved Mother of All Short Squeezes" would be the only rational conclusion, followed by a company with such high reserves, that it would survive forever. This is the cash absorbing, rapidly-rising share price, company of GameStop today.

3. GameStop's Business Tailwinds

Ken Griffin and Jeff Bezos have financially-collaborated on several projects together
While it's clear that Jeff Bezos is enjoying the wealth that was mostly created by the naked-short-selling complex that unfairly allowed his company to benefit at the expense of his competitors (i.e. collused targets and subsequent corporate victims), Ken Griffin is the one who is depicted in recent photos as being under more stress than his business collaborator
Ryan Cohen is taking on Amazon (in business), and Citadel, and Virtu (market makers) directly. Although Ryan Cohen already bested Jeff Bezos in the pet arena with Chewy, he is clearly showing an intent to dominate Amazon across gaming and all other business sectors

4. Technicals

MOASS is still actively playing out
12 days ago, I disclosed in another sub [from a technical perspective] that 'MOASS' was starting. There was a clear chart breakout of a 3-year long wedge. Then it became clear: that about 500 Million FTDs would be on the books.
"FTD Train Stacking" Failures to Deliver need to be bought back
There were $7 Million worth of FTDs from March 28th, 2024 to April 2nd, 2024 (a two day trading period). C+35 from those dates is May 2nd, 2024 to May 3rd, 2024 (the first dates that GME's price started accelerating). Thus, there is lock-step evidence of the first 'FTD train' being stacked, and broker dealers being too overwhelmed (i.e. no shares available) to settle them. Thus, since the goal of bad actors who FTD is to hopefully buy the shares back at cheaper prices this week... if price is not cheaper (it's not)... then they become even more overwhelmed. This exact same FTD "train stacking" phenomenon is what led to the GME Sneeze of January 2021, in perfect 35 day volume-infused runups that were indicative of FTD buybacks in accordance with Reg SHO Rule 204.
I presented this image 9 days ago depicting the current trend
Bears are begging for a downtrend, yet even with a downtrend, a Fibonacci Retracement right back to $60 is anticipated
Bulls are expecting an uptrend back to retest $125
Options
Max pain for May 17th for the majority of the week was $18, but the week ended at $22. Options are handsomely-undergoing 'gamma ramps', as they have since May 2nd's initial MOASS-evidencing price rise. The price has began this process around $10 per share.
Max pain for each week is inching its way higher, which reflexively increases share price
I presented this chart in 2022 to help describe the bear-trap and gamma snake, which shows gamma ramps after a low point in the chart. Technicals reveal the current low was in late April 2024, and that GameStop is now experiencing the right-hand gamma ramps in May.
Options gamma ramp-ups are yet another accelerant to this process, and an early-January-2021 similarity is present in current ramp up.
GameStop is a green hurricane with spawning tornadoes, each of which actively absorb cash. GameStop, in effect, is actively swallowing up the global equities market
All of this, to me, is a watershed moment. It is thanks to all of the teamwork by GameStop's board, officers, employees, and dedicated shareholders- all of whom led to the company's current profitability, debt-free stature, and its strong and rapidly-growing cash position.

5. TLDR

GameStop Corp's mixed shelf filing, and its discussion of dividend and subscription information, is now leading to a position where short-sellers have no idea where the exit is. Ryan Cohen has shut multiple doors on them at once.
For the sake of their financial survival, short-sellers of GameStop need to get out. Ryan Cohen and the board showed on Friday that they are aware of this. Subscription and/or dividends are able to force short sellers to be obligated to pay.
Short-sellers only alternative now is to go through GameStop's shareholders (via share price rise for the demand to meet the limited supply) and/or GameStop itself now (cash infusion). Further, FTDs for the last 2 weeks have to be bought back, and options gamma only makes this messier for those still short (1.5 Billion shares, 5x the float, is shown as loaned out). Technicals clearly reveal that there is more to this runup: 'MOASS' is still young and is actively playing out.
Further, like in 2021, GameStop is rapidly accumulating cash [even though the price is still 100% higher than what it was two weeks ago] through a minor offering while the price is in the middle of a price runup. This further evidences that the board was confident that there would be a 2021-like 'sneeze' starting here [at the minimum], but that they know that the company's equity by cash will continue to grow in tandem with its share price rise.

🌪 💵The only name for this can be described as a "green, Category 6, stock-market Hurricane with tornadoes" that quickly siphons up cash, as GameStop Corp actively takes over and dominates the global equities market 💵🌪

2024.05.18 17:52 Background_Angle_258 a little ramble

i feel so sad for many newer and younger music groups nowadays bc it seems they have to do so much to get by or to get noticed and someone else more popular will always be in competition bc so much music is digitalised media thats been thrown at everyone so its less about music and more about who can outdo who. who can be more expensive than who. who can have more wealth than who. etc. its like they cant have one flaw out of place or they cant drop their characters bc society will be watching their every move. they wont ever know what it was like away from the internet and a lot of older kpop idols seem to envy the way these newer kpop groups can gain more success in shorts amount of times. I do still think its possible outside of the internet but it would require more effort on the groups parts yet somehow I think I would still find out about them someway or other.
it isnt like its impossible for them to still be successful without the use of social media but they too would have to adapt if our devices were ever taken away from us when you think how much of music has been built around tiktok. Many big named groups from olden times are still around making music today
So my question is is tiktok really the only way to genuinely find new music groups? I would have loved to have done musicy if I had any shred of talent but I refuse to subject myself to the modern day scrutiny that tiktok seems to hold against its younger groups if they so much as step a toe out of line or drop their character
if im being honest youtube is the only way most people found what music they liked but I wonder many times what would happen if we really didnt have all that we had today would the groups of today still be known? in that sense I also miss picking up cds bc most cars are either too expensive and filled with digital features I do not need nor want and lack of cd players makes albums pointless in todays world
I went to tesco not that long ago as we rarely shop there but I couldnt bare how bare the empty physical media shelf was, more video games than dvds or cds. I tried to find this cd of blues and rythem tracks but could not I presume it had been removed bc they didnt sell out. the last dvd I probably will ever buy was the elvis one.
But the thunderstorm that cut our power out got me thinking that if we didnt have modern tech id have to find something to entertain myself by then i remember we used to have portable dvd players rhat didnt need electricity to be plugged in. My only non electric device is my vintage sewing machine that only cost me less than £80 it does all i need it to if i wanted to make a piece of clothing or garment yet most sewing patterns are digital nowadays but i do find some good deals in charity shops for vintage patterns again I bitterly regret not doing something physical with my hands like sewing when I was a kid. schools should push for more physical activities or make kids put their phones down for an hour and do some colouring
now if we could get rid of bills and taxes we could somewhat still live simpler and happier adult lives but i think social media has done its damage already and its too late to go back to simpler times, its too complex tto get decent work and its too longwinded to go through the education system and i have to have a lot of money to get something decent as an adult out of society
even when you look at all the latest gadgets its all plastic or poorly designed to break so easily in time or just by an accident and so much looks so similar like every phone has no character to it and honestly im just using my tablet these days i dont care for phones anymore
no one really bothered to text me and since lockdown i barely have any social life of my own outside close relatives so i do not need a phone hence why i think my life will be rather short there isnt much id particularly care about as i cannot go back in time and explore what older generations got to experience
whilst society does exclaim that life isnt over after xyz age or the world is our oyster or life is too short so do the most you can and or its never too late
i do think it does become too little too late for a lot of us we are either too old or not young enough for something or other and we are in a society where a lot is placed on how every other person and their granny is now a certified internet star who get to have that "viral" moment probably because they did well early on but that wasnt the case for us all
people often tell me on here to stop complaining so much but how can i not? so much of digital media is about getting our reactions over and over again its mentally draining to have to keep acting like its so normal of society, peopoe dont even look where theyre walking these days bc devices surprise surprise take up most of their eye sight
if only a few of us didnt use devices but everyone else around us was how are we meant to not feel fomo? how are we meant to feel less pressured to fit in online when the rest of society is online?
i think i was really born in the wrong generation and thats why i keep having existential crisis bc there isnt much for people my age to realistically do if we fail once thats it we dont ever get a redo so we have to make do with whatever situations we were given at a younger age and we are then forced to adapt to it over and over without any real knowledge
people just be using these platforms to holler mean unhelpful shit at other users so what good is that meant to do? if no one is accountable for the way society is then im ready to check out of it. im done

2024.05.18 04:14 completly_anonymus Vesperance, for the Singularity Is Approaching

For years and decades, I doubled down on music and my love of music every time. When Compact Discs started replacing vinyl and audiotapes, I put all my chips on red and spun again --- MORE MUSIC , PLEASE. When MTV and VH1 fed my eyeballs as well as my ears, I doubled down on red. When Napster became available in late 1999, I stayed up all mothraforking night long, sucking 128kbps songs through a 56k Faxmodem.
I never bought an iPod though, only much later. I know that you could pay iTunes 99 cents and get a song, but all the songs I already loved were in the GOODWILL and SALVATION ARMY stores on the shelves, for 99 cents per CD. And when PANDORA and SPOTIFY struck, I avoided them at all costs and have to this day, doubling down on red with the music I already loved on CDs.
But here comes UDIO. And I can TELL IT to make me music I love, with lyrics that I JUST WROTE, and it does so, without even breathing hard.
I imagine how scary it must have been for authors when ChatGPT could crank out two thousand pages of Harry Potter / Hermione Grainger fanfiction smut, without breaking a sweat. Or how illustrators and graphic artists felt, when a $20 OpenAI subscription could replace them and kick them straight out of a job. And now, UDIO has come for the musicians.
This is Humanity's last stand. And the next spin of the roulette wheel, I get every sense that it's coming up 00 and I'm about to lose all my chips.

2024.05.17 17:07 ikieneng My fanfiction - episode 3!

My fanfiction - episode 3!
The next part is here! This episode is actually so long that I'm going to split it, so today, you're only getting part 2 of 3.
DISCLAIMERS (the same ones as before)
The point of this fanfiction is not to be a straight-up continuation of events with the same themes, intensity, and tone. If you go into it with those expectations, you are probably not going to like it. Rather, it’s supposed to be how I wish things went if these events were real life. The resolution you want for a real-life situation isn’t often the right choice for a show, but it can be incredibly beautiful. Think of what you’re about to read to be a separate show then.
Episode 1 of this fanfiction begins after the episode “2:00” (season 2 episode 4), so it replaces the episode “Cake” and the ones that follow it. This fanfiction expects you to have seen the entirety of seasons 1 and 2, so you should watch those first.
I myself am bursting into the story here. The narrator and me are the same. While my character is like 95% real me, don’t take events about my life described here as facts. Some aspects of my life have been changed for the story. In my head, I started writing like an “alternate me” character in 2016, fulfilling a lot of the things that I wish I had in life, adding that to my story. I’m not really from Ukraine. I speak fluent Ukrainian as a foreign language, I started learning it in 2014, and I’ve talked to tons of people from there, but I’m not from Ukraine. I also don’t have as much money as I do in the story. I wish lmao.
If you want to post your own fanfiction, feel free to do so! To get your own post flair for your fanfic, and to appear in the side bar, please message me.
Just some code, so the thumbnail of the first link isn’t used as the thumbnail of the post:

Part 2 (day 2)
During the first day of us being together in the attic, Leanne would not tell me about her powers yet or any aspect of how that played into the events with the doll, etc., because she knows how crazy the truth sounds. She's always kept it pretty much a secret from everyone outside of the Church of Lesser Saints (although Sean is slowly figuring it out), but with how we might not have a choice than to go the police if we run out of rations before someone comes up into the basement, she knows she has to tell me, because if the police come, they will figure out that there was a living baby there, which was Jericho reanimated by her, but what are the police going to think? That either Dorothy, Sean, Julian, or Leanne snatched a baby, and they're not going to believe any of the supernatural explanations that are the truth. So Leanne knows that she has to convince me of her powers somehow, so I can know the full picture of what happened, so we can come up with a plan for how to handle that. So while it's still our first day locked up together in the attic, she asks me if I'm left-handed or right-handed. I say I'm right-handed. Without telling me, she uses her powers so that when I wake up, I will have lost all sensation in my left hand. When waking up on day 2, at first, of course, I'm a freaked out, but then, she reveals to me that she did it because otherwise, I'd never believe that she really does have supernatural powers. While I’m still pretty freaked out, she takes her Bible and prays over it while reciting some verses, and suddenly, my hand is back to normal.
https://preview.redd.it/wonqhlu0301d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=ab7872b90a369ef81293d4f8d95fef8298c355f3
I’d need a minute to process what just happened, discovering the supernatural, and once Leanne has reassured me, she’d break down crying, telling me that she has to tell me the full picture of what’s going on with the Turners. I’d hug her and tell her she can tell me when she’s ready. She’d tell me I’d never have believed her otherwise, and I’d tell her that because I know why she did it now, it’s okay, no hard feelings or anything. And she’d tell me the full story of how, when she first came to the Turners and saw the doll, she wanted to give Dorothy a second chance and make her happy by giving her Jericho back, so she made the doll real, so when the Church of Lesser Saints (which she’d tell me about as well) forced her to leave under threat and forced her to turn the baby back into a doll, Dorothy's illusion broke, and she came to the false conclusion that Leanne kidnapped Jericho, and that's why she kidnapped her and why she’s torturing her and locking her up…
That would be another really hard thing to hear, and she'd cry as she'd tell me the rest, like how Sean refuses to wake Dorothy up, which could end all of this in an instant, and how Julian is protecting them, and how there's nothing Leanne can do to change her situation because there is no baby that she can give to her. She'd cry so hard in my arms, and I'd just comfort her a lot more and hug her... My mind would still be blown that I got proof of the supernatural for the first time ever, but I'd feel even more sorry for her than before and that she's being put through all these horrible things while she's completely powerless to change the situation, and I'd be so angry at Sean for refusing to tell Dorothy the truth, and how he's willing to have Leanne go through all this horrible abuse because he can't convince himself to tell Dorothy… “I can’t give Jericho back to her”, she’d tell me, and I’d be like “I wouldn’t either. I wouldn’t trust that woman with caring for any human being, much less a baby”, and Leanne would silently nod with a hint of a smile for a second after the first bit of reassurance that she’s making the right decision before I’m asking her if she knows how Jericho died, and she’d tell me. I'd reassure Leanne that none of this is her fault, that it's horrible what everyone is putting her through instead of facing the hard decisions that could solve it all and end her suffering. “I just wanted to give Mrs. Turner a second chance and make things better for her again because I saw how awful things were with the doll…” My face would like be halfway happy because I think that’s so sweet, it’s such a perfect encapsulation of Leanne’s intentions in season 1, and I’d like rub her back 🥺
https://preview.redd.it/mj2n72u3301d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=4c0ae718794fe9a0ca2a2d0087260e6afec5ae0d
And she’d tell me about all the bullying she’s received by Sean and Julian for it, even after Sean decided to keep the baby, like swapping the labels of the cans of tomato soup with dog food, how they put hundreds of crickets in her room, how Sean went through her things, how Julian hired Wanda to be her fake friend, and how she even overheard Julian even suggesting turning off the heating in her room (she wouldn’t know about the camera because there’s no indication that she ever noticed it).
https://preview.redd.it/0skxtxs5301d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=694d0e76c7bacf4da279c406c2b872b43cd2791b
She'd tell me about the baptism. People have seen the living baby, so if the police come, they will find out about it, so what do we do then, since they would never believe the truth that Leanne reanimated the doll, and that it was literally Jericho? I’d be like “plausible deniability”, and I’d explain that, by that, I mean “If you reanimated the baby and turned it literally into Jericho, then there’s no living baby that the police can find anywhere. If they find DNA in the house, it will be Jericho’s, so they will assume that it’s not the baby’s. There’s no actual missing baby that they can confidently link to the case. Screw it, if the police get involved, let’s say that Sean, Julian, or heck, even Dorothy must have brought the baby in, and that they threatened you not to tell anyone with non-specific threats, and how could you not take those threats seriously after one of them brought someone’s baby into the house” Leanne would be surprised that I’d be willing to do that and ask me about it. I’d be like “After all you’ve just told me, yeah, let’s do that. It will be your word against theirs, so no one’s gonna actually actually go to prison for this particular crime, and if we’re open about the fact that there was a baby, they might take our account of things more seriously. And are you saying that they continued with the bullying against you after they decided to keep the baby? Did I get that right?” Leanne would nod. “Oh my God… That is so fucking awful, I’m so sorry… Then what’s the point? What are they even trying to achieve? Oh my God…” and hug her again. “You’d do that for me?”, she’d ask, almost in disbelief. “To keep you safe, after I get you out of here? Yeah, I would. You deserve it! Honestly, you deserve to get spoiled so much when we’re out of here!”, and we’d just smile and laugh at each other so much in that moment. She’d say “Thank you!” with a big smile, and I’d say “Of course!”
I'd ask her if there's any evidence of the baptism, and she'd tell me about the tape of it that was shown in the season 1 finale, where George and May showed up in the background, and that's how they knew they were gonna show up soon.
https://preview.redd.it/ym15sb48301d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=4755713239115181f0d74c712bfbc7ddf0a9f14e
And I'd see an opportunity to help her there, because this proves that George and May are still alive, that they faked their deaths. In the season 2 premiere, of course, when Dorothy claimed that May was in her house while showing the police her old news segment where she was reporting about May's likely death, Dorothy sounded crazy to the police,
https://preview.redd.it/3mz45xy9301d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=fb4b3fd9db46ed9267e4d0f178b4ec00b2ea8a01
but if we showed them the tape of George and May showing up less than three weeks ago, then not only would there be a second witness (Leanne) swearing that they saw May, but the police would have proof, and we could have the police go up against the Church of Lesser Saints and prosecute them and lock them up for their heinous crimes and abuse, and if successful, Leanne could finally be safe from them. I wouldn't know much about them yet because Leanne hasn't told me much, but when I suggest that, she'd almost laugh on shock and the joyous thought of maybe not having to be afraid of them anymore at some point, and that would make me smile and say "Let's do it! Big task, I know, but let’s do it!" I'd ask her if she knows where the tape is, and she'd say it's probably among the other DVDs in the living room or still in the DVD player. I'd tell her that when I sneak out of the house whenever that's hopefully gonna happen, I'll take the tape with me, which is when she tells me to please also take Dorothy's news tape from March 11, 2011 with me (the tape of the pageant where she first met Dorothy). I'd ask her why, and she'd tell me she's gonna tell me another day. She'd tell me I can watch it when I got it, and I'd say okay to that.
https://preview.redd.it/laugwe4c301d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=c541fb92132d0a42e697923234e2f834af6e1555
Leanne and me would make the most of the time in the attic until either
  1. She will be let out for a few hours, and I can sneak out, get the DVDs, and prepare everything to rescue her, get her to safety, and alert the authorities, or
  2. We will have to call the police from the attic when we run out of rations.
For now, we'd eat half of that day's rations (including some tomato soup), and then, I'd do something to lift her up after all that terrible stuff that happened and these heavy conversations. I'd show her a lot of music on my phone and introduce her to that part of my world a little bit 😊 Wanting to show her some music, I’d ask her what kind of music she’s into, and she’d say she doesn’t really know any specific music because the Church of Lesser Saints didn’t allow music because anything that feels good is a temptation to them…
https://preview.redd.it/pf6j9vgf301d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=1c780bdf397f3f5b1369f751b0b2a87d3873c1e3
I’d be like “That’s horrible… They didn’t even let you listen to songs?” Leanne would be like “That’s probably all really strange to you”, and I’d say “No, it’s really not. I mean, it’s pretty awful that they put you through that, but it’s far from something unrelatable for me. My parents are Christian, and growing up, all the music I knew was Christian music. It wasn’t, like, explicitly forbidden or anything, but until 2008, when I got into middle school - fifth grade for us, I only knew one single song that wasn’t Christian, and I only knew it because it played over the end credits of a movie I saw in the theater with my father. I listened to it a lot of years later after I’ve researched what it’s called, and it wasn’t actually that great because I’ve gotten to know so much other music since, but yeah, religiously speaking, I had a really hard time growing up, which I didn’t even realize until I came back from America”. We’d just look at each other for a second and realize without words just how much we can relate to each other in this regard. I’d be like “I think we just opened up another bottomless barrel. God, we got so much to talk about!”, and we’d just laugh for a moment because of how understood we feel by each other now!
I’d suggest finally listening to some music. My YouTube channel about it didn’t exist at the time, but I have a passion for the Eurovision Song Contest (I can’t stand the EBU, the organization that runs the whole thing, but at the time of this story, in December 2022, I didn’t have a problem with it yet) Opening up Spotify on my phone, I’d think what songs from it she might like, and instinctually, I’d think she’s probably never heard anything like Eastern European modern folk music before, which would make me think that she’d probably really like Željko Joksimović’s entries (he wrote and performed Serbia & Montenegro 2004, and Serbia 2012, and he also wrote Bosnia & Herzegovina 2006, Serbia 2008, and Montenegro 2015), and I’d take out my dual AirPod adapter (please tell me if such a device actually exists, because I really want one lol) and put on “Lejla” by Hari Mata Hari (Bosnia & Herzegovina 2006). This is the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyB09CWhzb4
She’d listen with intrigue. The beautiful instrumental intro, the many unfamiliar instruments, the rich melody, the emotional expressiveness, and how it’s in a language she doesn’t understand. She’s heard nothing like it before, and she’d love it! After I explain Eurovision to her, I’d tell her it’s one of my favorite entries ever and ask her if she wants to hear more, and she’d emphatically say yes! I’d show her the other entries I already mentioned (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgBJjzivCc4
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Sn3TKoPeA0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48_wOw1SLyg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnrTDS85rC8
Honestly, we'd enjoy these moments so much, and she'd want to hear more and more, she’s known nothing like this kind of music. Considering how she likes the jazz and popera music the Turners got playing sometimes, I think she’d love these songs. I'd show her more music, like the Netherlands 2022 ("De diepte" by S10, which I think would be her favorite entry ever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7NyzU1ob_M ), and a lot more, and in the middle of this horrible situation we're in, we'd have such a great and happy time listening to all this music!
After a while of listening to a lot of music together while sitting close together shoulder-to-shoulder, we’d get talking again. She’d wanna know more about my religious background.
Side note, I’m gonna be pretty honest about what I think here, but this is not exactly the kind of show that attracts fundamentalists or religiously intolerant people, so you probably won’t have a problem with it.
I'd tell her my parents are specifically Protestant Christians, and they are crazy fundamentalists whose version of their faith was beyond hateful to so many people. I'd tell her that while my faith was already waning, I switched to Catholic Christianity (I’d tell her that I made the change because I thought they were right about some core issues in the faith, but in retrospect, I’ve realized what a complete mess the Bible is, that it contradicts itself at every turn, and that what you think about any specific issue really depends on where you look, and what explanations you come up with to dismiss the rest), but about a year later, I left Christianity behind. I lost my faith in the New Testament first, so I became a Noahide for a while (I'd tell her what that means, it's basically what Judaism would like someone who isn't a Jew to do because there's no obligation to convert and join the Jewish people) because I still believed in God and Tanakh (the Old Testament), but after getting really deep into the Mitzvot (Law of Moses), I was so disgusted by God and the horrible things he expects of people and does to them (particularly Deuteronomy 22:28-29…), how cruel and oppressive he is all throughout scripture, and so, I then believed for a while that there's SOME higher power out there, but that it's not Yahweh (since I don't believe in Tanakh anymore, I have no problem saying that name), but with the radio silence I received from whatever higher power is out there, and how the explanations I made for myself to make myself belief in its existence faded, I became an Atheist and just left it all behind. It was a gradual process for me.
Hearing that for the first time would be so therapeutic for her with how she's had doubts in her faith for a long time, coming closer and closer to losing it completely (I mean, the whole reason she’s in the show in the first place is because she physically left the Church of Lesser Saints, knowing she’d be hunted down. People tend to forget that when talking about Leanne’s religiosity). I'd ask her what she believes now, and she'd say she doesn't really know. She's struggling so much with how she sees God because of all the things he's willing to put her through and the things that are done in his name in the Church of Lesser Saints that she still believes he's connected to, and she just wants to let go of it all sometimes and finally defy God, but she's afraid. I'd tell her that she doesn't need to be afraid. When I found out that Jesus and Christianity and all of it are fake, it was really hard for me at first, and it hurt like crazy knowing that it was all a lie, but that it will get better quickly after that because then, you'll realize that life after religion is life free from religion and its crazy rules and nonsensical restrictions for the sake of restrictions, restrictions for the sake of pleasing someone that would never do the same for you and won’t even reply to you.
I know what Leanne is about to tell me because I've seen the rest of the show, but she'd tell me about what happened when she died in the fire. I'd be like "What? What fire?", and because it’s not the point, she'd quickly say that her house burnt down when she was six years old with her, her mother, and her father in it, and that she died and was resurrected by the Church of Lesser Saints, and that's how she joined them. I'd say like "Oh my God... Oh my God, I'm so sorry" and just hug her…
Giving her comfort about all these things she's never talked about with anyone, that makes me happy to imagine, helping her heal from her wounds! I just want nothing but to make her feel better and make her heal 😔
And then, she'd say what she wanted to say, that when she died, she went to Heaven and saw other people that died there, so how can God not be real? After asking about some of the details, I'd say that that doesn't mean that Christianity is true. She saw a place where people who died had another life, but that exists in so many religions, and maybe whatever created that place didn't tell people about it, so it might not even be any religion that is practiced. And most importantly, she went to Heaven before the Church of Lesser Saints ever knew her, so if outsiders go to Heaven, then they can't be the truth.
(I don’t think that the Church of Lesser Saints is the truth in-universe because of that, to be frank. Also because Julian went to Heaven as an Atheist in “Goose”).
That would blow her mind, and she'd say she'd have to think about that, and I'd say sure, like, when I first had the realizations that doomed my faith, I had to think about a lot of it at first as well, it took quite a while to unwind. And I'd tell her that in Tanakh, Heaven is never a place where people go after they die anyway, but where God, the angels, and Satan reside (and Satan is something completely different in Tanakh, not the supervillain of the universe). Later, Christianity just came along and introduced Heaven as a place where people go after they die, and it doesn't line up with Tanakh at all because it's a lie. And Tanakh is just as fake as the New Testament anyway, so whatever she saw is not the concept of Heaven, neither the Jewish nor the Christian concept. Considering how close Leanne already was to losing it before I came along, this would really get her thinking, and this whole conversation would really deepen how much we understand each other on such a deep level, and how close we feel! ❤️ And not only would I make HER feel the love she's never received and help her so much in life in so many ways, but having someone understand ME that well and finding her, omg, she would lift ME up so much just by being who she is! Honestly, Leanne is like the person who, if she were real, would be the one who'd understand me like no one else, and you can see how much in love I am with her just through a screen, now imagine we'd actually be there in real life, that's the most wonderful thing ever to imagine, for both of us!
Side note lol: In the show, it's clear that Leanne likes boys, but I honestly think that my headcanon where she slowly falls in love with me (a woman) would work. Leanne's sexuality is enough of a blank slate of the show for this to work. There's no indication that she likes girls in that way, but also absolutely nothing to contradict it. It's also shown how she explores her sexuality for the first time in season 1 once she comes to the Turners after running away from the Church of Lesser Saints. When Dorothy grabs Sean, Leanne sees it and later imitates it on Julian, showing how she is exploring these concepts for the first time, something that was clearly forbidden at the Church of Lesser Saints. If the writers made her fall in love with a woman in the show, it would have worked and been really believable because of all this. Leanne's sexuality is an almost completely blank slate. Just wanted to say that ahaha…
We still don’t know when the next time will be that someone will come up into the attic and “give” Leanne a few hours or less out of there, presenting an opportunity for me to sneak out and get the plan in motion to free Leanne with less risk than there would be if we called the police right now with us unarmed.
And we’d listen to some more music. A little bit into us listening to music, I’d create a Spotify playlist right there, going through my liked songs and creating a long playlist of music I think she might like, with her right next to me, seeing that I’m creating that playlist for her! And she’d find that really sweet 😊 I actually created it lol: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4Y8Skhmf72ElUFKPxoT4e4?si=f9ceac038fa84f61
Giving her another hint. I’d show her pictures of Eurovision 2017, when it was in my city Kyiv. I’d also show her the picture I took with Blanche from Belgium at the opening ceremony back then and tell Leanne that she was my biggest celebrity crush of my life, that I was so in love with her, another reminder that’s testing the waters 😁😊❤️ And she’d find that really sweet! I’d wanna show her the livestream where the moment is forever immortalized (in the story, not in real life, which would be here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPaJxwFFZGk ), only to realize that it’s blocked in America lol, “but anyway, that was at Mariyinskyy Palats in Kyiv, it’s like a red carpet ceremony that’s done every year during rehearsal week, the week before the actual contest, and I went there wearing my best dress and best makeup and… [laughing because I’m so embarrassed] I gave her red roses with a card inside that has some text and my phone number on it, painted in the colors of the rainbow flag to be as explicit as possible” Leanne would smile big time, and she’d ask “Did she reply?”, and I’d be like “She messaged me after the contest, thanking me and saying that she has a boyfriend, and I wished her all the best, and that was it. Doesn’t really matter though. I like to look back on it all, but I’m not interested in her anymore. Her political views are kind of yikes anyway, we’d only argue because of that” (none of this happened in reality, we never actually met).
After a tiny bit of silence while sitting shoulder-to-shoulder, I’d ask her “You ever really been in love?”, and almost giggling, she’d be like “I don’t know. I just… I don’t know. Let’s talk about something else. This was in your city?”, and I’d say yes, and that Eurovision is usually held in the winning country of the previous year, and Ukraine won in 2016, so Kyiv it was in 2017. She’d carefully ask me if I came to America because of the war, and with some sighing, I’d tell her yes. She’d ask if I wanna talk about it, and I’d say “A little bit is okay”. I’d tell her it’s been going on in the East of Ukraine since 2014, but when the full-scale invasion began in February (this takes place in December of 2022), they bombed Kyiv, and troops moved toward Kyiv really fast. I had a complete mental breakdown for days. It was only after two days that I could snap out of it, and I packed my things and decided to flee the country… I was just so scared, I knew I wouldn’t survive mentally or physically if I stayed, and I definitely didn’t wanna live under R_ssian occupation. I hitchhiked to the city of Bila Tserkva south of Kyiv, took trains to Poland, and flew to America from there. I’d tell her “I lived here before and really liked it, like I said, it was the best year of my life, so that’s where I instinctually decided to go. I definitely didn’t wanna stay in Poland”.
I’d probably really start crying when I tell her this because it’s such a painful memory, and Leanne would slowly start to hug me (physical affection is something new for her, she’s still figuring out how to do these things, and that’s okay), and I’d just take a sudden pause from crying for a moment and look up to her (I’m four inches shorter lol), seeing her look at me, and we’re almost realizing our mutual empathy and understanding without words in that moment! She’d say at the end how scary that must have been and if I was alone the entire time. It would honestly mean so much to me, her comforting me, especially about these difficult moments, and I’d tell her that I was alone the entire way… I’d tell her my sisters and nieces live in Poland now, and that my father is still in Ukraine. She’d ask about my mother, and I’d say that as far as I know, she’s still there, but I haven’t spoken to her since 2017, and I never will again. She’s absolutely destroyed my life and put me through so much trauma that I can never forgive her for. Leanne would go “Me, too” (about her own mother), and we’d both giggle a bit in that moment because we get how alike we are in that experience, having had our mothers wreck both of our lives, and how crazy it is that we’re here right now just talking about all this so openly.
It would be rather late by that point, and we’d start eating the other half of that day’s rations. Leanne would go straight for the canned tomato soup again, and I’d tell her how cute I find it that she loves it so much! She’d smile and react non-verbally in her typical way that is so hard to put into words, and I tell her how cute I find the little ways she reacts to things with her face! She’d smile some more and then say “Most people just think I’m weird” with a less happy tone and face, but I’d say “People find the most stupid things to complain about, and people like you and me who don’t fit in, we’re easy targets. The things about you that people find weird, I’d rather call them peculiar, and I like them! These little things about you are so cute for real!”, and she’d really smile and just look at me for a moment.
https://preview.redd.it/fhn0kcd1401d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=8b28057c33607827da751b6a008dbde2f63f1c71
I’d be like “What?” (in a happy and curious tone), and she’d be like “I like it, too when you do this with your eyes!”. I’d roll them over toward her and say “You mean like this?” and make her laugh while she says yes, then roll them back and forth and ask “Or like this?”, and we’d laugh even more!
We’d hear a sound from downstairs and quiet down pretty much immediately as the reality of our situation kicks in again and we know that we can’t have the Turners hear us, or we’re both screwed. We’d wait until we’re sure they’re not coming into the attic and only THEN, we’d continue to talk. She’d just say “I’m scared”, and I’d say “Me, too”, and we’d just hold each other before we eat the rest of the small meal. I’d be like “Like I said yesterday, I’m almost as obsessed with Ben & Jerry’s as you are. Almost! I really gotta get you some when we leave here! In fact, I promise you I will! I wanna see the reaction on your face the first time you taste it!”, and she’d say “I’d like that very much!” with a smile!
And back on a more somber note, I’d ask her how long they usually leave her in here for… She’d say that the last time was a whole weekend, so three nights… I’d say “Let’s hope it’s sooner than that this time…” We’d make plans for how I’m gonna sneak out the next time that happens, like, specifically. I’d tell her that when they let her out of the attic and leave the door unlocked as a result, I’d wait a minute and wait for everyone to get downstairs. I’d tell her to give me an audible signal that it’s safe to sneak one floor further downstairs, like saying something loudly or kicking something. I’d then sneak onto the third floor, and then the second one, and wait for Mrs. Turner to go back to the third floor and the attic. I’d then sneak into the living room, get the DVDs, and go into the basement, where I’d go through the side door. She’d confirm my question that it leads to the garden behind the kitchen. I’d say I’ll hide there until I can see that no one’s in the kitchen. She’d confirm that the code in the back is the same as the one at the front door - 0603. And I say I’d then leave through the back door, into the park, take the bus home, take a shower, write down everything I’ve seen in a letter meant for the police, send it to my online friend Liam, and tell him to alert the Philadelphia police if I’m not back online confirming I’m safe within 24 hours, and to not read the letter until then. The rest of the plan is to then fully load and get my gun, get to the Turner house by bike, have a large taxi wait one block away, and then force the Turners to let me in by displaying my gun and disengaging the safety lever right in front of whoever’s at the door, and explain to everyone that I am there to get Leanne, and that I’ll call the police and report them right then and there if they refuse to cooperate in any way. If Dorothy tries to do anything to stop me like she probably will, I’d tell her that Sean and Julian know where Jericho is (I mean, they do, because Jericho is dead and they refuse to wake Dorothy up), that they knew this entire time, and that’s that’s the reason Leanne is not talking, because there is nothing she can do. I’d add something like “And they’ve been lying to you this entire time, all while YOU put Leanne through the most disgusting abuse imaginable! I’m getting her out of here right now!”
Leanne would say that Dorothy wouldn’t believe me because this sounds so different from the version of events she believes in. I’d ask when Jericho died, and Leanne would tell me August 26. I’d go “Then I’ll tell Mrs. Turner ‘ Here’s what I want you to do after I leave, Mrs. Turner. If you want to find out where Jericho is, there’s a pretty straightforward way for you to do it. You go look up death records in Philadelphia from August 26 this year. There, you will find something really weird. You’ll know exactly what I mean when you see it. Then you ask these two lying motherfuckers about it until they tell you the truth! They will keep on lying like they have this entire time, but you push them until they give you an explanation that explains what you’ll see among the records. Do it right after I leave, you can do that online! August 26 this year! And when they try to keep you from doing that, that’s how you’ll know I’m telling the truth!” I think Leanne would be really impressed by what I’m saying and the sheer boldness of it. I’d look over at her, and with a heavy smile, I’d say “Of course” and embrace her again.
And I’d tell Leanne that if I can’t find the baptism tape, I’ll take all the tapes that aren’t news tapes or movies and whatever disc is in the player, if there is one there. Leanne would tell me to make sure the police can’t find the news tape, and I’d say “Sure. I’ll hide it somewhere at home after I watch it.” Then, Leanne would tell me to please take her Bible and the porcelain baby and card from the cake I gave her with me
https://preview.redd.it/kxw1lfv5401d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=4b7ddb40216f5a5217c18faffe8be104b51955f6
(in the real show, she actually keeps her Bible even after she loses her faith, probably because she needs it for some of her powers) because she doesn’t know if she can take it with her herself, depending on how things go on the day, so she can be sure that she doesn’t lose either, and of course, I’d promise her. I’d also say that I’m really glad that the porcelain baby from the cake means so much to her now, just like I intended, to make her happy 😊
And I’d say that when I’m done saying what I’m planning to say to Dorothy when I go rescue Leanne, I’ll tell the Turners to empty their pockets and put everything on the table and tell them to go into the bathroom and lock it. I’d stay right there to make sure they’re not getting out, then call Leanne on the Samsung phone I already gave her and tell her to get whatever she needs, put on some clothes from the attic that don’t make her look suspicious outside (because if she walked outside with me in sleepwear while I got a gun, that would make it look as if I was kidnapping her), and come downstairs. As soon as she’s past the bathroom door, I’d unlock it, and we’d walk backwards together while still pointing the guns in the direction of the Turners. I’d tell Dorothy again to go look up the death records right now (the timing is important to keep them from calling the police immediately, so we can get to the police first), and we’d get out of the house, run to the taxi, and drive off, and call the police from inside the taxi. Leanne would ask me where we’re gonna ask the taxi to take us, and I’d suggest maybe a hotel in Allentown, where we’ll be safe from the Turners, and because we probably need to stay in Pennsylvania, so the police can come to us without leaving their jurisdiction. I’d hold Leanne’s hand tight and promise her everything’s gonna be okay, that I’ll make damn sure that she’ll be safe!
Since we have no idea when the Turners will let her out of the attic again, we’d clean up immediate giveaways that that someone else is there (mostly just meaning we’d put the rest of the food in my backpack and hide my backpack). She’d then give me the porcelain baby, the card, and her Bible for safekeeping, and I’d put it in my pocket. We’d then take videos to document everything that’s in the attic, showing that we are indeed locked up, to keep as evidence for the police.
We’d then get ready for bed. Again, we have to share a mattress and covers. I’d insist this time that I sleep on the side of the mattress that’s closer to the stairs leading up into the attic in case Dorothy decides to assault Leanne again, so I’m in the way. And when we lay down, because we still only have one mattress and covers for the both of us, we’d actually be really close together physically, and before falling asleep, we’d just look at each other again and again and smile every time we open our eyes and catch each other just looking at the other 😊

2024.05.15 06:24 HardcoverHound Does anyone have any suggestions for managing a personal collection?

My apologies if this is the wrong place for such a request; I would appreciate suggestions if there is a more appropriate place to ask, but I figured the librarians and library connessiours would likely have information about software and the like which is used for keeping track of public collections.
I've amassed quite a personal collection over my lifetime. Long ago, I began to track which books I owned individually in a Microsoft Excel document. Eventually, this document grew to where it began to struggle to load on my computer, and I began to struggle to keep up with adding entries. Now, maybe a quarter to a third of my collection is unlogged entirely. I probably own in the ballpark of 2,000 books.
So, I am finally choking down my pride and seeking an alternate solution. Here's what I'm looking for:
I will "edit" if I think of anything else I need. Thank you to anyone who helps or has advice.

2024.05.14 20:32 Acrobatic-Pin-990 I think my husband is a bad parent

Husband and I are 29 years old. Together for 15 years married for 4.
We have 3 kids, 8, 5, and 1.This is mostly regarding our oldest, who is 8.
So he’s not the best with teachers and likes to belittle them I think. Like our son brought his iPod to school (my old iPhone without service) and the teacher took it and had us pick it up and he told the teacher “dont take his phone, it’s not yours to take. Ask him to put it away and if it’s really an issue you can call me or his mother and we’ll deal with it but don’t take my things from my son” and then they argued a bit and finally she agreed if it happened again she’ll call his parents.
Then recently he got in trouble in class for disrupting the class (he threw a paper ball at another kid and then got a detention) and we weren’t informed. So when my husband and I went to pick him up the teacher said we had to wait 20 minutes because he’s in detention and he said “uh, yeah no I’m just gonna pick him up now” and she said “you’re more than welcome to after his detention” and he said “who do you think you are telling me when and were I pick up my son?” And i apologized on his behalf and told him to knock it off and he said “no, do I tell you what to teach? No. So how about you be the teacher and I’ll be the parent. You can teach him math and English and I’ll discipline him.” And she said it’s school policy and he was in there with another kid so husband just walked into the classroom and said “hey buddy, let’s go” and son said “I can’t” and he said “you’re going to serve your detention at home” and we left and the teacher just smiled and was clearly pissed.
To be completely fair, he was in trouble at home. Husband told him he needs to show his teacher respect and we took away his iPod and Xbox for the evening, and then we had him apologize to her the next morning.
On top of that, he doesn’t set a great example. He acts like a kid. I thought it was cute and funny when we were like 15 but now it’s worrisome because our kids are watching.
We were back to school shopping at the Nike store and there was a football and he looked at our son and said “hey buddy watch this” and threw it at a manican and the store worker said he had to go and he said “haha…yeah no I’m gonna stay” and I was so angry and embarrassed I just left and apologized to the worker.
Another time we were at lunch and there was a guy across the restaurant wearing a rather interesting outfit and he looked at our son and pointed to the guy and said “look at that dumbass over there. I bet he ordered a blt or some gay ass shit like that” annd they both laughed and I said “seriously??” And he shrugged and said “he probably did” and when we got home I told him how completely inappropriate that was.
And then on Saturday morning our son was playing madden on his Xbox with someone online (a random match) and he was losing so husband took over and started winning and the guy threw an interception so husband said on the mic “nice throw, f_ggot” and then won the game and called the guy a loser.
Normally I wouldn’t care, because that’s kinda what you need to expect when playing a game online, but saying those things in front of our son really upset me and I told him again in private I’m NOT ok with that.
I’m glad our son looks up to dad that much, and aside from being a little immature he’s an amazing dad and husband, but this kind of stuff really upsets me.

2024.05.14 19:47 lamploveI89 Help- iPod classic damaged.

Hello all, I'm hoping someone can help me and or provide advice. As above my iPod classic, which I've had for 14 years! I used it every day for those 14 years. Unfortunately has stopped working. So devastated and furious at myself.
I'm on here hoping for some solutions.
What happened. Friday, washed out a lunch box, placed in my bag with iPod classic. Came home, bag wet and iPod not responding. Max 2-3 hours of water damage. Put it in a lunch box of rice and put in the sunshine. Saturday it came back to life! Over the moon was an understatment. Even played some music on my speaker.
Sunday connected to laptop and was adding songs via Youtube Mp3 converter.
Monday on the way to work was playing grand in my car, then started to skip songs. Then stoped completly.
Have the black screen with a red X, and saying contact support.
I did the hold Menu and centre button for 10 seconds, then centre and back button to see additional settings. IO> Hardrive>HDD Spec Got "Error diag halt!".
I'm in Ireland, only repair shop I found said they can't repair it as parts are rare.
Basically I am wondering is it completly fucked.
Can the music on it be recovered? I've had numerous laptops, as you can imagine in 14 years, so my iPod was never synced to one itunes.
Ideal situation, some how repair the hard drive in this, get music off and get it working as an iPod again.
Anyone done this? Links to what videos or tutorials you used and where you bought the tools. I've seen some links to people using SD cards as new storage.
Additionally comments, why is itunes so darn slow and buggy?
Thanks for any help, advice.

2024.05.14 17:34 napalmnacey Pool pump noise: Like being vigorously fucked in the ear by a sandworm.

So, my neighbour, with whom I would like to think I have a fairly friendly and warm acquaintanceship with, who also knows I have two small children, has a pool. I hear the family next door play in it in summer. It's nice!
His wife is an insomniac, apparently. This means she watches TV all hours of the day. VERY loud. I can hear it from my house if I have the windows open, like it's in the next room. But I don't usually have the windows open and the TV sounds remind me of when I used to live with my parents so I don't mind it so much.
But tonight there's a weird fucking pump sound, and my husband says it's a pool pump. If it were a sound in the air I wouldn't mind. I'd put on earphones, blast some white noise, do whatever and get the fuck to sleep.
But this sound? This sound is like the earth itself twitching. It's coming up through the fucking floor. I think I can feel it in my head. I have super sensitive hearing, too. I hate this. I have no words for how much I fucking hate this sound. I am a generally chill, mild-mannered lady. I don't swear at Jehovah's Witnesses. I'm nice to other people's kids and pets. I don't even get mad at people walking slowly in front of me.
This sound makes me want to go the full droog on their pool pump. A bit of the old ultraviolence.
Did I mention I'm already sleep deprived from "that time of the month"? Yeah. I'm not happy.
Is there anything I can do? I looked shit up and apparently I have to log it for two fucking weeks for it to be an offence. Quite frankly, if I had to put up with two weeks of this there'd be a pound or two of my own shit deposited in their pool by the darkness of night well before then. And the cat's too, for good measure.
Problem is, I don't want to do the following:
Any suggestions? I'm gonna try the headphones but I don't have a good feeling about. Also, I'm a side sleeper so there's no way I'm getting a decent night's sleep tonight either way. Ear plugs are out because I'm a light sleeper. The sensation of them in my ears always keeps me awake.
I reckon my neighbour (we'll call him Mick) owes me a nice bottle of wine or a day in his pool for this, cause parenting two children under the age of ten, both of whom have ADHD, on a night of not only little sleep but of aural torture of the low frequency kind, is a special kind of punishment than even the Hague would find pretty over-the-top.
I'm off to find a corner of the house where it's not terrible. I may end up sleeping in a closet. This is a shitbox house in Wanneroo somewhere, so when I say closet, I mean "You could bury exactly one average Texan in a coffin the size of this space" closet. G'night.
EDIT: It stopped at about 12:45 at night, which wouldn't be so bad if I was in my 20s and mainlining the burned DVDs of Avatar: The Last Airbender that my friend sent me until 2am. I'm not. It's a school week. FML.

2024.05.14 11:52 Dreamweaver_duh What are some videogames you liked that came with bonus features/ videos like behind-the-scenes footage, trailers, and even TV episodes?

I dont know about you guys, but I personally like watching some of the bonus features they put on DVDs for movies, so I kind of also like seeing them in video games. Do you guys feel the same way? What are some video games that have fun little videos to watch that you liked?
For example, the PS3 versions of the Uncharted trilogy had unlockable behind-the-scenes videos that showed you how some of the levels were made, or how some of the cutscenes were directed. Unfortunately, these weren't included on the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection presumably due to disc space, and that's kind of a shame because I always thought they were kinda neat.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game also had a few featurettes, like a behind-the-scenes commentary with some of the developers of the game (Terminal Reality), as well as some of the actors like Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Harold Ramis (rest in peace). They also had a video of people refurbishing the Ecto-1 to promote the game, with Dan Aykroyd even visiting to give them his approval. They also included a trailer advertising the Blu-ray release of the original movie, and even included a small snippet of the scene where Peter Venkman gets slimed. They kept these in the Remastered versions of the game too, unlike Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection... except for the Nintendo Switch version, which presumably had to be removed to fit on the game cart.
The Dark Pictures Anthology games had short featurette videos talking with the main actor of their respective games (so Shaun Ashmore in Man of Medan, Will Poulter in Little Hope, and Ashley Tisdale in House of Ashes), and sometimes showed a little footage of what the mo-cap sessions were like. I thought it was cool seeing the blank set they had to work with, and everyone in mo-cap suits trying to pretend they're on a moving ship and such.
Some video games even had full TV episodes in them. The Mega Man Anniversary Collection on PS2 had the first episode of the Animated Series cartoon, while the Xbox version had the first episode of NT Warrior. The GameCube version, on the other hand, had the G4 Retrospective of Mega Man.
Meanwhile, the Kirby Dream Collection on the Wii had not one, not two, but three episodes of the Kirby: Right Back at Ya! anime. While the first episode is the first episode overall, the other two episodes were ones that happened in the latter half of the series, which is a little weird but at least you got three episodes.
Even better, one video game I imported from Japan is Snack World on the Nintendo Switch. While the game did get localized for a western release, the Japanese version of the game, Snack World: Trejares Gold, came with the first four episodes of the CG anime. Of course, it's in Japanese and there's no English subs, but it's still nice to have, and is well animated enough to get the gist of what's going on.
Even better than that is ASOBU TIGHTS, which is a simple match-3 puzzle game on the Nintendo Switch based on the Miru Tights anime... which is a very short but fan servicey anime. While you do have to grind for a bit, pun intended, you can unlock all like 12 episodes of the anime. Now, each episode is only a few minutes long, and don't "really" have a "plot" per se (they kind of just show girls in tights or zoom in on their feet or breasts... which is a different kind of plot), but I still thought it was still nice to have. It's definitely well animated at least.
Anyway, I wanted to know what kind of other games have these bonus features, and whether or not I'm the only one who cares for this stuff.

2024.05.14 02:09 Bitter_Chocolate5501 Finding a way to not lose pictures

I have an ipod touch 6th gen (A1574) i believe I got it at the end of 2014 or 2015. I think it’s got somewhere around 25-30 gbs. I’m planning on changing the battery soon and loading up all my cds on it. What I want to do is have a way to make sure all of my photos are safe and loaded off the ipod where I can deleted the data and just have it exclusively for music.
My problem is I’m not a tech person at all. I could take apart and put back together a device but have no idea how to use it when it’s on. I only just realized realized thanks to another Reddit user what a cloud and its purpose is. I think all of my photos are on my phone and computer already but I’m not sure if it’s from the cloud or not.
Right now I’m thinking of using the usb to lightning adapter I have and moving the photos/videos on to a drive it then wiping the ipod. I’m just not sure what to do after the the usb would be plugged in. I also tried loading my pictures onto my Mac by making a backup but it only downloaded three random pictures.
If anyone has any tips they could share in a way anyone could understand I would seriously appreciate it. I’ve spent the past few days almost exclusively ripping cds and I’d hate for that time to go to waste.

2024.05.14 01:46 ZomeKanan all downhill from here

i love reading about Big Stupid Romantic Gestures on /actuallesbians, because I like to picture myself in the stories and dream that one day I'll have a more poetic life. But also because they're usually uplifting and wholesome, and I need more of that in my life.
so it's kinda incredible, really, that I've finally got one of my own to tell.
Few nights ago, I get in from work, and, as usual, i'm dead on my feet. She, meanwhile, is already home, because she's got a normal schedule for normal people. and as soon as I walk in the door, she jumps up off the couch and takes my hand and says I need to follow her. So I drop my bag and my keys, and - feeling a little panicked - follow her out of my apartment, into the hall, and then down the hall to the stairs at the end (nobody uses the stairs, where the hell are we going?)
we start climbing the stairs. all the way to the top. Up there, behind a bunch of maintenance shit, is a locked door leading out onto the roof (well, one of two roofs, actually). But it's always locked, and always alarmed, so we've never had a chance to use it. Except for this time, because the building manager is there and he's holding it open, smoking a cigarette and looking down at his phone. And like, we're all friends and everything (I've been living in that place for years) so he just gives me a little nod and a smile, and then goes back to tapping away on his fruit combo or whatever. Sliding past him, we go out onto the roof - which is not a safe roof, by the way - and it's cool and breezy and dark; and in the corner, up against some AC duct, there's a wireless sound bar connected to an ipod nano (that's how old we are), playing something vaguely classical and fancy.
and as soon as i look at her, she puts her arm around my waist and we start slow-dancing in the middle of the roof, like we're at a prom or something. And Lukas (not his real name) slinks away and leaves the door wedged open with a bucket full of cigarette butts, so now it's just the two of us (and the people in the adjacent, much taller building) all-alone on the roof. And I'm completely breathless, so I ask her what the hell is going on. What's the occasion? She says no occasion, just that i should 'look up'. And so I do. But all that's up there is a featureless gray sky, blown out by the orange sodium of our neighborhood. She says there's northern lights up there, if you look hard enough. Which is unbelievable, but I believe her anyway. And so I'm squinting and not really seeing it; there's maybe the faintest hint of green, I'm not really sure. And then, like a pot of spilled ink, my eyes adjust and there's this wash of color. Faint and blurry, gone in a second. But I swear I saw it. And I'm like wowww, completely transfixed; and that's when she kisses me and tells me she loves me (i said it back without hesitation, btw) and we start moving in a circle to something slow and orchestral. All while high up above (I assume, because, if im being honest, I didn't see shit) the night sky was shimmering with an otherworldly glow.
After a while, blue danube comes on, which is one of my favorites, and we start twirling to that instead. and it cannot be overstated how bad we are at dancing, but we kept spinning and tip-tapping across the insanely dirty roof for another, I dunno, forty-five minutes before Lukas came back to wrap it all up. And the whole thing was, without question, the best moment of my entire life. No ulterior motive, no surprise announcement, no 'by the way, I ran over your cat earlier, hope this softens the blow' at the end. Just the distant sound of traffic and the crackle of a 128kbps harpsichord over in the corner. We didn't speak a word. I just lay my head on her shoulder, she brushed my hair a little, and halfway through she touched my butt. Chef's kiss perfection, the whole thing.
anyway, that's it. I dunno if anyone cares. but i had to write it down somewhere, just to get it outta my head. also, i think she paid lukas to let us up there, ill ask him when i see him. oh, and in the future, i will completely embellish this story to have us dancing a step-perfect waltz to a crystal-clear aurora in the shape of our faces. but for now, it was just a clumsy night in the city. and i liked it. she's the best.

2024.05.14 00:11 krusty-krab-pizza1 iPhone Configuration Guide w/ Checklist

A month or so ago I busted my phone, and it was a huge pain in the ass. Aside from some lost data which was minor, the biggest PIA was resetting MFA, getting in touch with my US banks, and any other services that were tied to my phone. The experience also made me take a step back and realize I am pretty lax with security, and if someone had gotten hold of my phone and somehow god-forbid gotten the passcode, then I'd be fucked. They could do so much damage with unlimited access to my email + MFA SMS, even in just a few hours.
As a result, I kind of went down the ADHD rabbit hole hyper-fixating on how best to "optimize" my iPhone and iCloud configuration for two things:
  1. If it breaks, the transition to a new device will be relatively painless. I won't have to spend several days stressing and trying to find the right international customer support number for a myriad of institutions and services to get into my accounts.
  2. If it gets stolen and compromised, then there will be enough barriers such that the I'll have enough time to lock down the device and/or my accounts remotely before the thief can get key data or move funds.
So I put together this guide and checklist that I thought I'd share with others. I am a programmer but by no means a security guru, and so if any IT, DevOps, or SecOps folks want to chime-in with suggestions or improvements, please do.

I have been rocking an iPhone 12 for the past few years, and it's served me very well. I know the newer iPhones (14 and up) no longer offer physical SIM card support, but carriers in most developing countries are behind the curve. Even if they offer eSIM support, it's been my experience that it's a major headache to get setup, there is a lack of customer support in English, and they may even require a local ID to register the eSIM. It's way easier to just head to a shop and pay $5 for a SIM card, load some funds onto it, and then you're good to go.
The eSIM has been very helpful for maintaining a US phone number for which I can receive SMS texts from my banks and other financial services as well as continue to use iMessage with all my US contacts since hardly anybody is on Whatsapp.
Most, if not all, carriers in the US support eSIMs now, and so you should try to find a carrier that offers an international pay-as-you-go plan. Verizon offers two international plans - one is a "Travel Pass" where it's a flat fee of $10/day anywhere outside the US or Canada (even for just one text message). The other is "pay for what you use" which has a rate per text, minute, and mb. For my US plan, I only care about receiving SMS texts from my banks and the occasional phone call to a service that doesn't have an international, toll-free number. Data will always be cheaper outside the US, so I disable cellular data switching for my US line.
The last time I was in the US was for the holidays and I bought 2 used iPhone 12's for about $200 each. They have some scuffs, but they're perfectly serviceable. In LATAM, it also doesn't attract nearly as much unwanted attention in the street as an iPhone 14 or 15.
I brought these with me as extra devices. When my phone busted last month, thankfully I had a backup in iCloud and everything was loaded in a few minutes as normal. This was before I was using the eSIM, but if I had the eSIM I could just go to Verizon support online via chat and they could help me switch the line to the new device easily.

Basic Configurations

Creating Backups

Password Policy

MFA

Set up MFA with everything. Add multiple options if possible. My preferred MFA options are as follows:
  1. One-time code that renews every 30 seconds. This is device agnostic and can be stored in 1Password. You could also use Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator, Authy or similar, but there's just more overhead to now recover those accounts if your device becomes inaccessible.
  2. One-time code to recovery email.
  3. One-time code via SMS to my US phone number. On the pay-as-you-go Verizon plan, I only pay 5 cents per text message received. It's worth it to keep one consistent number.
  4. List of recovery codes (stored in 1Password as an attached txt file for the given account)
  5. Use another app for verification (Google does this a lot).

Lockdown your iCloud security

In the event your phone is stolen, the idea is you could run back to any of your devices or even use a friend's device to log into iCloud on the web, go to Find My, and then in a single button click you can lock and wipe the stolen device. If the thief turned off the device or disabled wifi/cellular, then as soon as it comes back online it will be wiped.

Final Clean-Up

Extra tips

These aren't really iPhone tips but general tips. They are probably obvious to you if you aren't as scatterbrained as me, but I figured that I'd drop them here in case they help someone.

2024.05.13 17:02 EezoVitamonster General thoughts and reflections on the series after re-watching it plus the movie.

So I watched this show with my family A TON as a kid. I think I was 11 or 12 when the finale aired and we actually had a big party with a bunch of people from our church who we got into the show too, it was really fun. Between reruns and all the DVDs, I watched the early episodes (like first four seasons) over and over and over again. The later ones I rewatched too but not nearly as much just because there wasn't as much time before I stopped watching it. I always thought it was hilarious, sometimes Monk was a little cringey but I was an incrediibly introverted cringey kid who didn't have OCD like Monk but struggled to fit in, in many of the same ways.
Spoilers for everything, obviously.
So my general thoughts on it: I still like it. Not as much as back then, but I still like it. The mysteries are usually pretty good, especially early on and seeing how he solves it was always enjoyable. Very quotable show, I still say "Unless I'm wrong, which - you know, I'm not" to this day and upon rewatching it I remembered that's where it was from. It was so deep within my lexicon that I forgot it was a quote. But as an adult I find my favorite characters have kinda switched. I used to like Natalie a lot more but now I think I enjoyed the Sharona episodes and her dynamic with Monk better. Natalie is probably funnier (or at least in funnier episodes, but she was also in a lot more so that makes sense) but she's too easy on him. Sharona being tougher on him made the moments when she did baby him a bit all the more sweeter because you could tell things were especially hard for him in that moment compared to his general discomfort.
The lack of character development compared to other shows I've (re)watched in recent years (and even from my childhood) is pretty dissapointing. I know he "gradually" gets better throughout the series but aside from Stottlemeyer's love life there is no memorable charactrer continunity in the series. Speaking of Stottlemeyer and Randy - I still like Randy but not quite in the same way. He's still funny of course but sometimes his ideas just feel like the writers thinking of ridiculous ways to make him seem dumb so the other characters can kinda clown on him, but that gives me more sympathy for him so it kinda evens out. Stottlemeyer though, I really like him now. Probably my favorite character, Ted Levine is fantastic and he definitely shows the widest range of emotion of any character - from his depths of despair in Mr. Monk and the Miracle to his emotional highs and lows with killer GF and TK. Also the only one who seems to actually change throughout the show besides Monk having a little less fear and nervousness (which really didn't show up until like S8). Seems like he became more compassionate and happy.
And then there's Monk. Oh boy. Great character that had the opportunity to be so much greater if the writers didn't pull him back to square 1 literally every chance they got. Made some emotional breakthrough in an episode before Season 8? Guess what something happens at the very end of the episode that pulls him back for the sake of a joke, hahaha! The actor episode in season 5 was infuriating for this and his ending session with Dr. Kroger felt like they were playing it as a gag "oh he wants a session every day of the week! Hilarious!" I can't even remember how often it happened but I know while watching it I would constantly think "wow maybe this development will stick" and then of course it doesn't. But don't take this criticism as me hating the character or the show, it's moreso that I'm dissapointed at what could have been. I also understand that for syndicated televsion the showrunners are a little more hesitant to have significant character growth because you don't know which episodes will be played. It just felt mean to him at some points. Season 8 was great overall, that's where we saw a lot of development or at least development payoff. The second half of the whole season felt like a long finale honestly, which I enjoyed.
On the movie:
It was good, I liked the mystery. I felt dumb for not figuring it out sooner but not a bad "how he did it" at all. I liked that they made Elon Musk the bad guy lol. It was weird to see the show in HD, something about it just felt off. Same thing with the characters and that 14 year jump, it was like seeing the transition of Obama from 2008 to 2016. I liked getting to see the gang back together, but Monk being suicidal was an unexpectedly dark tone they put on it. The very end of it was nice though, it made me cry. The idea of him giving voice to those who were unable to speak for themselves was pretty powerful.
Anywho, thanks for reading all of this if you did. Guess I'll go watch Psych now since that's a show I did not see as a kid so everything but like two episodes will be fresh. Colombo first because he's the OG on TV.

2024.05.13 13:54 everintheshadows Bluey in Cantonese if you live in Australia?

Hey, i tried high and low to find Bluey in Cantonese for my child but here are the issues i've had.
  1. Because i live in Australia, Disney+ here doesn't have Bluey. You have to watch it on ABC iview
  2. Amazon/online doesn't sell Bluey in DVDs (that's how desperate i was)
  3. ABC iview, only has Bluey in Mandarin, not Cantonese. But i did see it on Youtube somewhere
  4. Youtube only has random Bluey scenes, like...10 seconds worth (https://www.youtube.com/results?search\_query=Bluey+in+Cantonese) so i KNOW it exists!! The channel that uploads it i don't think is dedicated to Canto but rather many other languages, and only snippets of each
So i've actually taken to emailing ABC to see if they'll put the cantonese dub on the app. I honestly don't think it'll happen because they may think they've catered enough internationally since it's in Mandarin and other languages. But i just really want to keep Cantonese alive here. :(
Do any of you have any luck in finding Bluey in Cantonese? Honestly, i'm willing to pay, but i can't even find the product anywhere cuz it's only exclusively for streaming these days it seems.

Oh, this is going to be easy. - Oddball, do you copy? - Copy, Red Leader. Mark my position. Form your squad up behind me. We're on your tail, General Kenobi. Set S-foils in attack position. This is where the fun begins. Let them pass between us. They're all over me. - Get them off my- - I'm gonna go help them out. No. They are doing theirjob so we can do ours. Missiles. Pull up. - They overshot us. - They're coming around. All right, R4. No, no. Nothing too fancy. Surge all power units, R2. Stand by reverse thrusters. We got 'em, R2. Flying is for droids. - I'm hit. Anakin? - I see them. Buzz droids. R4, be careful. You have a- Oh, dear. They're shutting down all the controls. Move to the right so I can get a clear shot at them. The mission. Get to the command ship. Get the chancellor. I'm running out of tricks here. In the name of- - Hold your fre! You're not helping. - I agree. Bad idea. I can't see a thing. My cockpit's fogging. They're all over me. Anakin! - Move to the right. - Hold on. You'll get us both killed. Get out of here. There's nothing more you can do. I'm not leaving without you, Master. Get him, R2. Watch out. R2, hit the buzz droid's centre eye. - Yeah, you got him! - Great, R2. The general's command ship is dead ahead. Have you noticed the shields are still up? Sorry, Master. I have a bad feeling about this. There they are. Get them. R2, locate the chancellor. The chancellor's signal is coming from right there- the observation platform at the top of that spire. I sense Count Dooku. - I sense a trap. - Next move? Spring the trap. R2, go back. I need you to stay with the ship. Here. Take this and wait for orders. What's the situation, Captain? Two Jedi have landed in the main hangar bay. We're tracking them. Just as Count Dooku predicted. Destroyers. Drop your weapons. I said drop 'em. - Roger. - Roger, roger. Those are Jedi fghters all right. - Did you press the stop button? - No. Did you? There's more than one way out of here. We don't want to get out. We want to get moving. R2, activate elevator 31174. - Come in, R2. - What that? R2, do you copy? R2, activate the elevator number 31174. Get back to work. That nothin'. Activate the elevator 31174. R2- Always on the move. R2, switch on the comlink. R2, can you hear me? R2? R2! R2! Stop. Stop. R2, we need to be going up. Hands up, Jedi. R2, do you copy? R2, do you hear me? R2, we need to be going up, not down. Hey, you! That's better. You stupid little astro droid. Oh, it's you. My eyes! My eyes! - What was that all about? - R2 has been- - No loose wire jokes. - Did I say anything? - He's trying. - I didn't say anything. - Chancellor. - Are you all right? Count Dooku. - This time we will do it together. - I was about to say that. Get help. You're no match for him. He's a Sith lord. Chancellor Palpatine, Sith lords are our speciality. Your swords, please. We don't want to make a mess of things in front of the chancellor. You won't get away this time, Dooku. I've been looking forward to this. My powers have doubled since the last time we met, Count. Good. Twice the pride, double the fall. Get- I sense great fear in you, Skywalker. You have hate. You have anger. But you don't use them. Good, Anakin. Good. Kill him. Kill him now. I shouldn't. Do it. You did well, Anakin. He was too dangerous to be kept alive. Yes, but he was an unarmed prisoner. I shouldn't have done that. It's not the Jedi way. It is only natural. He cut off your arm, and you wanted revenge. It wasn't the frst time, Anakin. Remember what you told me about your mother and the Sand People? Now we must leave before more security droids arrive. Anakin, there's no time. We must get off this ship before it's too late. - He seems to be all right. - Leave him, or we'll never make it. His fate will be the same as ours. Prepare for attack! All batteries, fre! Fire! Elevator's not working. R2, activate elevator 3224. - Reverse stabilizers. - Reversing stabilizers. Magnetize! Magnetize! Fire the emergency booster engines. We're levelling out, sir. Easy. We're in a bit of a situation here. - Did I miss something? - Hold on. - What is that? - Oops. R2. R2, shut down the elevator. Too late. Jump! Let's see if we can fnd something in the hangar bay that's still flyable. R2, get down here. R2, do you copy? General, we found the Jedi. They're in hallway 328. Activate ray shields. Ray shields. Wait a minute. How did this happen? We're smarter than this. Apparently not. - I say patience. - Patience? Yes. R2 will be along in a few moments... and then he'll release the ray shields. See? No problem. Don't move. Do you have a plan B? Ah, yes. The negotiator. General Kenobi. We've been waiting for you. Excuse me. - That wasn't much of a rescue. - You're welcome. And- Anakin Skywalker. I was expecting someone with your reputation to be a little... older. General Grievous. You're shorter than I expected. Jedi scum. We have a job to do, Anakin. Try not to upset him. Your lightsabres will make a fne addition to my collection. Not this time. And this time, you won't escape. R2. Crush them! Make them suffer! Come. Now! Stay at your stations! Get him! Get him! Run! Don't bother with them. - Keep the ship in orbit. - Yes, sir. You lose, General Kenobi. Get out of here! Run! Time to abandon ship. All the escape pods have been launched. Grievous. Can you fly a cruiser like this? - You mean, can I land what's left of it? - Well? Under the circumstances, I'd say the ability to pilot this thing is irrelevant. Strap yourselves in. Open all hatches. Extend all flaps and drag fns. We lost something. Not to worry. We are still flying half a ship. Now we're really picking up speed. Eight plus 60. - We're in the atmosphere. - Grab that. Keep us level. Steady. Easy, R2. Fire ships on the left and the right. - We'll take you in. - Copy that. - Landing strip, straight ahead. - We're coming in too hot. Another happy landing. Coming, Master? No. I'm not brave enough for politics. I have to report to the council. Besides, someone needs to be the poster boy. Hold on. This whole operation was your idea. Let us not forget, Anakin, that you rescued me from the buzz droids. And you killed Count Dooku, and you rescued the chancellor... carrying me unconscious on your back. All because of your training. Anakin, let's be fair. Today you were the hero... and you deserve your glorious day with the politicians. All right. But you owe me one, and not for saving your skin for the 10th time. Ninth time. That business on Cato Neimoidia doesn't count. I'll see you at the briefng. Chancellor Palpatine, are you all right? Yes. Thanks to your two Jedi knights. They killed Count Dooku, but General Grievous has escaped once again. General Grievous will run and hide, as he always does. He's a coward. But with Count Dooku dead, he is the leader of the droid army. And I assure you... the senate will vote to continue the war as long as Grievous is alive. Then the Jedi Council will make fnding Grievous our highest priority. - Watch it. - Excuse me. - Come along, R2. - The Republic cannot praise you enough. Thank you, Senator Organa. It couldn't possibly be as bad as all that. Now there I agree with you. In fact, I could do with a tune-up myself. But the fghting will continue until General Grievous is spare parts. I will do everything I can in the senate. - Excuse me. - Certainly. I've missed you, Padm. There were whispers that you'd been killed. I'm all right. It feels like we've been apart for a lifetime. And it might have been, if the chancellor hadn't been kidnapped. I don't think they would have ever brought us back from the outer rim sieges. - Wait. Not here. - Yes, here. I'm tired of all this deception. I don't care if they know we're married. Anakin, don't say things like that. Are you all right? You're trembling. What's going on? Something wonderful has happened. Ani, I'm pregnant. That's wonderful. What are we gonna do? We're not gonna worry about anything right now. All right? This is a happy moment. The happiest moment of my life. Yes, Lord Sidious? General Grievous... I suggest you move the separatist leaders to Mustafar. It will be done, my lord. The end of the war is near, General. But the loss of Count Dooku- His death was a necessary loss. Soon I will have a new apprentice- one far younger and more powerful. Ani, I want to have our baby back home on Naboo. We can go to the lake country where no one will know... where we can be safe. I can go early and fx up the baby's room. I know the perfect spot. Right by the gardens. You are so... beautiful. It's only because I'm so in love. No, it's because I'm so in love with you. So love has blinded you? That's not exactly what I meant. But it's probably true. Anakin, help me! What's bothering you? Nothing. I remember when I gave this to you. How long is it gonna take for us to be honest with each other? - It was a dream. - Bad? Like the ones I used to have about my mother, just before she died. And? And it was about you. Tell me. It was only a dream. You die in childbirth. And the baby? I don't know. - It was only a dream. - I won't let this one become real. This baby will change our lives. I doubt the queen will continue to allow me to serve in the senate. If the council discovers you're the father, you'll be expelled- I know. I know. Do you think Obi-Wan might be able to help us? We don't need his help. Our baby is a blessing. Premonitions? Premonitions. These visions you have- They're of pain, suffering. Death. Yourself you speak of, or someone you know? Someone. Close to you? Yes. Careful you must be when sensing the future, Anakin. The fear of loss is a path to the dark side. I won't let these visions come true, Master Yoda. Death is a natural part of life. Rejoice for those around you who transform into the Force. Mourn them, do not. Miss them, do not. Attachment leads to jealousy. The shadow of greed that is. What must I do, Master Yoda? Train yourself to let go... of everything you fear to lose. You've missed the report on the outer rim sieges. I'm sorry. I was held up. - I have no excuse. - In short, they are going very well. Saleucami has fallen, and Master Vos has moved his troops to Boz Pity. What's wrong, then? The senate is expected to vote more executive powers to the chancellor today. That can only mean less deliberating and more action. Is that bad? It'll make it easier for us to end this war. Be careful of your friend Palpatine. Be careful of what? - He has requested your presence. - What for? He would not say. He didn't inform the council? That's unusual, isn't it? All of this is unusual. And it's making me feel uneasy. I hope you trust me, Anakin. Of course. I need your help, son. What do you mean? I'm depending on you. For what? I don't understand. To be the eyes, ears and voice of the Republic. I'm appointing you to be my personal representative on the Jedi Council. Me? A master? I'm overwhelmed, sir. But the council elects its own members. They'll never accept this. I think they will. They need you. More than you know. Allow this appointment lightly the council does not. Disturbing is this move by Chancellor Palpatine. I understand. You are on this council... but we do not grant you the rank of master. What? How can you do this? This is outrageous. It's unfair. How can you be on the council and not be a master? Take a seat, young Skywalker. Forgive me, Master. We have surveyed all systems in the Republic... but have found no sign of General Grievous. Hiding in the outer rim Grievous is. The outlying systems you must sweep. We do not have many ships to spare. What about the droid attack on the Wookiees? It is critical we send an attack group there immediately. He's right. It's a system we cannot afford to lose. Go I will. Good relations with the Wookiees I have. It's settled then. Yoda will take a battalion of clones to reinforce the Wookiees on Kashyyyk. May the Force be with us all. What kind of nonsense is this? Put me on the council and not make me a master? It's never been done in the history of the Jedi. It's insulting. Calm down, Anakin. You have been given a great honour. To be on the council at your age- it's never happened before. The fact of the matter is you are too close to the chancellor. The council doesn't like it when he interferes in Jedi affairs. I swear to you, I didn't ask to be put on the council. But it's what you wanted. Your friendship with Chancellor Palpatine seems to have paid off. That has nothing to do with this. The only reason the council has approved your appointment... is because the chancellor trusts you. And? Anakin, I am on your side. I didn't want to put you in this situation. What situation? The council wants you to report on all the chancellor's dealings. They want to know what he's up to. They want me to spy on the chancellor? - But that's treason. - We are at war, Anakin. Why didn't the council give me this assignment when we were in session? This assignment is not to be on record. The chancellor is not a bad man, Obi-Wan. He befriended me. He's watched out for me ever since I arrived here. That is why you must help us. Anakin, our allegiance is to the senate, not to its leader... who has managed to stay in offce long after his term has expired. The senate demanded that he stay longer. Yes, but use your feelings, Anakin. Something is out of place. You're asking me to do something against the Jedi code. Against the Republic. Against a mentor and a friend. That's what's out of place here. Why are you asking this of me? The council is asking you. Anakin did not take to his new assignment with much enthusiasm. It's very dangerous, putting them together. I don't think the boy can handle it. I don't trust him. With all due respect, Master, is he not the chosen one? Is he not to destroy the Sith and bring balance to the Force? So the prophecy says. A prophecy that misread could have been. He will not let me down. He never has. I hope right you are. Sometimes I wonder what's happening to the Jedi order. I think this war is destroying the principles of the Republic. Have you ever considered that we may be on the wrong side? What do you mean? What if the democracy we thought we were serving no longer exists... and the Republic has become the very evil we've been fghting to destroy? I don't believe that. And you're sounding like a separatist. This war represents a failure to listen. Now you're closer to the chancellor than anyone. Please, ask him to stop the fghting and let diplomacy resume. Don't ask me to do that. Make a motion in the senate, where that kind of a request belongs. - What is it? - Nothing. Don't do this. Don't shut me out. Let me help you. Hold me. Like you did by the lake on Naboo. So long ago, when there was nothing but our love. No politics, no plotting, no war. - You wanted to see me, Chancellor. - Yes, Anakin. Come closer. I have good news. Our clone intelligence units... have discovered the location of General Grievous. He's hiding in the Utapau system. At last. We'll be able to capture that monster and end this war. I would worry about the collective wisdom of the council... if it didn't select you for this assignment. You're the best choice, by far. Sit down. Leave us. You know I'm not able to rely on the Jedi Council. If they haven't included you in their plot, they soon will. I'm not sure I understand. You must sense what I have come to suspect. The Jedi Council want control of the Republic. They're planning to betray me. - I don't think that- - Anakin. Search your feelings. You know, don't you? I know they don't trust you. Or the senate. Or the Republic. Or democracy, for that matter. I have to admit, my trust in them has been shaken. Why? They asked you to do something that made you feel dishonest, didn't they? They asked you to spy on me, didn't they? I don't know what to say. Remember back to your early teachings. All who gain power are afraid to lose it. - Even the Jedi. - The Jedi use their power for good. Good is a point of view, Anakin. The Sith and the Jedi are similar in almost every way... including their quest for greater power. The Sith rely on their passion for their strength. They think inwards- only about themselves. And the Jedi don't? The Jedi are selfless. They only care about others. Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis the Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Jedi would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a dark lord of the Sith... Darth Plagueis was a dark lord of the Sith... so powerful and so wise... he could use the Force to influence the midi-chlorians... to create... life. He had such a knowledge of the dark side... he could even keep the ones he cared about... from dying. He could actually... save people from death? The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities... some consider to be unnatural. What happened to him? He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was... Iosing his power. Which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew. Then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. It's ironic. He could save others from death... but not himself. Is it possible to learn this power? Not from a Jedi. All Red units, over here! Palpatine thinks General Grievous is on Utapau? A partial message was intercepted... in a diplomatic packet from the chairman of Utapau. Act on this we must. The capture of General Grievous will end this war. Quickly and decisively we should proceed. The chancellor has requested... that I lead the campaign. The council will make up its own mind who is to go... not the chancellor. A master is needed, with more experience. I concur. Master Kenobi should go. I agree. Aye. Aye. Very well. Council adjourned. The droids have started up their main power generators. - Then now the time is, Commander. - Yes, sir. Charge! Head for cover! - You're gonna need me on this one. - I agree. However, it may turn out Just to be a wild bantha chase. Master. I've disappointed you. I haven't been very appreciative of your training. I've been arrogant, and I apologize. I've just been so frustrated with the council. You are strong and wise, Anakin, and I am very proud of you. I have trained you since you were a small boy. I have taught you everything I know. And you have become a far greater Jedi than I could ever hope to be. But be patient, Anakin. It will not be long before the council makes you a Jedi master. Obi-Wan. May the Force be with you. Goodbye, old friend. May the Force be with you. Fortunately, most of the cities are concentrated on this small continent here. On the far side. I'll keep them distracted until you get there. - Just don't take too long. - Come on. When have I ever let you down? Very well. The burden is on me not to destroy all the droids until you arrive. Save your energy. I can't. Don't give up, Padm. Obi-Wan's been here, hasn't he? He came by this morning. What did he want? He's worried about you. He says you've been under a lot of stress. I feel lost. Lost? What do you mean? Obi-Wan and the council don't trust me. They trust you with their lives. Something's happening. I'm not the Jedi I should be. I want more. And I know I shouldn't. You expect too much of yourself. - I found a way to save you. - Save me? From my nightmares. Is that what's bothering you? I won't lose you, Padm. I'm not gonna die in childbirth, Ani. - I promise you. - No, I promise you. Greetings, young Jedi. What brings you to our remote sanctuary? Unfortunately, the war. There's no war here- unless you brought it with you. With your kind permission, I should like some fuel... and to use your city as a base as I search nearby systems for General Grievous. He is here. We are being held hostage. - They are watching us. - I understand. Tenth level, thousands of battle droids. Tell your people to take shelter. If you have warriors, now is the time. Take the fghter back to the ship. Tell Cody I've made contact. - Is he bringing additional warriors? - He didn't say. It won't be long before the armies of the Republic track us here. I am sending you to the Mustafar system in the outer rim. It is a volcanic planet. - You will be safe there. - Safe? Chancellor Palpatine managed to escape your grip, General. Without Count Dooku, I have doubts about your ability to keep us safe. Be thankful, Viceroy, you have not found yourself in my grip. Your ship is waiting. Hello there. General Kenobi. You are a bold one. Kill him. Back away. I will deal with this Jedi slime myself. Your move. You fool. I've been trained in your Jedi arts by Count Dooku. Attack, Kenobi. Army or not... you must realize you are doomed. I don't think so. Cover that corner. Master Windu, may I interrupt? General Kenobi has made contact with General Grievous... and we have begun our attack. Thank you, Commander. Anakin, deliver this report to the chancellor. His reaction will give us a clue to his intentions. Yes, Master. I sense a plot to destroy the Jedi. The dark side of the Force surrounds the chancellor. If he does not give up his emergency powers... after the destruction of Grievous... then he should be removed from office. The Jedi Council would have to take control of the senate... in order to secure a peaceful transition. To a dark place this line of thought will carry us. Great care we must take. Chancellor. We've just received a report from Master Kenobi. He has engaged General Grievous. We can only hope that Master Kenobi is up to the challenge. I should be there with him. It's upsetting to me to see that the council... doesn't seem to fully appreciate your talents. Don't you wonder why they won't make you a Jedi master? I wish I knew. More and more I get the feeling that... I'm being excluded from the council. I know there are things about the Force that they're not telling me. They don't trust you, Anakin. They see your future. They know your power will be too strong to control. You must break through the fog of lies the Jedi have created around you. Let me help you to know the subtleties of the Force. How do you know the ways of the Force? My mentor taught me everything about the Force. Even the nature of the dark side. You know the dark side? If one is to understand the great mystery... one must study all its aspects... not just the dogmatic narrow view of the Jedi. If you wish to become a complete and wise leader... you must embrace a larger view of the Force. Be careful of the Jedi, Anakin. Only through me can you achieve a power greater than any Jedi. Learn to know the dark side of the Force... and you will be able to save your wife... from certain death. What did you say? Use my knowledge. I beg you. You're the Sith lord. I know what's been troubling you. Listen to me. Don't continue to be a pawn of the Jedi Council. Ever since I've known you, you've been searching for a life... greater than that of an ordinary Jedi. A life of signifcance... of conscience. - Are you going to kill me? - I would certainly like to. I know you would. I can feel your anger. It gives you focus... makes you stronger. I'm going to turn you over to the Jedi Council. Of course. You should. But you're not sure of their intentions, are you? I will quickly discover the truth of all this. You have great wisdom, Anakin. Know the power of the dark side. Power to save Padm. So uncivilized. Master Windu, I must talk to you. Skywalker, we just received word that Obi-Wan has destroyed General Grievous. We're on our way to make sure... the chancellor returns emergency power back to the senate. He won't give up his power. I've just learned a terrible truth. I think Chancellor Palpatine is a Sith lord. A Sith lord? Yes. The one we've been looking for. - How do you know this? - He knows the ways of the Force. He's been trained to use the dark side. - Are you sure? - Absolutely. Then our worst fears have been realized. We must move quickly if the Jedi order is to survive. Master, the chancellor is very powerful. You'll need my help if you're going to arrest him. For you own good, stay out of this affair. I sense a great deal of confusion in you, young Skywalker. There is much fear that clouds your judgement. - I must go, Master. - No. If what you've told me is true, you will have gained my trust. But for now, remain here. Wait in the council chambers until we return. Yes, Master. You do know, don't you... if theJedi destroy me... any chance of saving her will be lost. Master Windu. I take it General Grievous has been destroyed then. I must say you're here sooner than expected. In the name of the Galactic Senate of the Republic... you're under arrest, Chancellor. Are you threatening me, Master Jedi? The senate will decide your fate. - I am the senate. - Not yet. It's treason then. You are under arrest, my lord. Anakin, I told you it would come to this. I was right. The Jedi are taking over. The oppression of the Sith will never return. You have lost. You will die! He's a traitor! He is the traitor! I have the power to save the one you love. You must choose. Don't listen to him, Anakin! Don't let him kill me. I can't hold it any longer. I can't. I'm weak. I'm too weak. Help me. Help me! I can't hold on any longer. I am going to end this once and for all. You can't. He must stand trial. He has control of the senate and the courts. He's too dangerous to be left alive. I'm too weak. - Don't kill me. Please. - It's not the Jedi way. He must live. - Please don't. - I need him. Please don't! Power! Unlimited power! What have I done? You're fulflling your destiny, Anakin. Become my apprentice. Learn to use the dark side of the Force. I will do whatever you ask. Good. Just help me save Padm's life. I can't live without her. To cheat death is a power only one has achieved... but if we work together... I know we can discover the secret. I pledge myself... to your teachings. Good. Good. The Force is strong with you. A powerful Sith you will become. Henceforth you shall be known as... Darth... Vader. Thank you, my master. Rise. Because the council did not trust you, my young apprentice... I believe you are the only Jedi with no knowledge of this plot. When the Jedi learn what has transpired here... they will kill us, along with all the senators. I agree. The council's next move will be against the senate. Every single Jedi... including your friend Obi-Wan Kenobi... is now an enemy of the Republic. I understand, Master. We must move quickly. The Jedi are relentless. If they are not all destroyed, it will be civil war without end. First I want you to go to the Jedi temple. We will catch them off-balance. Do what must be done, Lord Vader. Do not hesitate. Show no mercy. Only then will you be strong enough with the dark side... to save Padm. What about the other Jedi spread across the galaxy? Their betrayal will be dealt with. After you have killed all the Jedi in the temple... go to the Mustafar system. Wipe out Viceroy Gunray... and the other separatist leaders. Once more the Sith will rule the galaxy! And... we shall have... peace. Sergeant, over here! Hurry! All of them! All Red units, let's move it! Come on. Let's go! Commander, contact your troops. Tell them to move to the higher levels. Very good, sir. By the way, I think you'll be needing this. Thank you, Cody. Let's get a move on. We've got a battle to win. Yes, sir. Commander Cody... the time has come. Execute order 66. Yes, my lord. Blast him! Come on! Execute order 66. It will be done, my lord. It will be done, my lord. Master Skywalker, there are too many of them. What are we going to do? The chancellor's offce indicated Master Anakin returned to the Jedi temple. Don't worry. I'm sure he'll be all right. - What's going on here? - There's been a rebellion, sir. Don't worry. The situation is under control. I'm sorry, sir. It's time for you to leave. And so it is. Get him! Don't worry about him. Let him go. All these Wookiees are dead. Move to the east. Yes, sir. Goodbye, Tarfful. Goodbye, Chewbacca. Miss you I will. Hopefully we'll be able to intercept a few Jedi... before they walk into this catastrophe. Did you fnd Kenobi? Sir, no one could have survived that fall. Start loading your men on the ships. Move it. Emergency code 913. I have no contact on any frequency. Master Kenobi. - Repeat. - Master Kenobi. Senator Organa. My clone troops turned on me. I need help. We havejust rescued Master Yoda. It appears this ambush has happened everywhere. We're sending you our coordinates. Hush! Not so loud. Are you all right? I heard there was an attack on the Jedi temple. - You could see the smoke from here. - I'm fne. I came to see if you and the baby are safe. What's happening? The Jedi have tried to overthrow the Republic. I can't believe that. I saw Master Windu attempt to assassinate the chancellor myself. What are you gonna do? I will not betray the Republic. My loyalties lie with the chancellor... and with the senate and with you. - What about Obi-Wan? - I don't know. Many Jedi have been killed. We can only hope that he's remained loyal to the chancellor. Anakin, I'm afraid. Have faith, my love. Everything will soon be set right. The chancellor has given me a very important mission. The separatists have gathered on the Mustafar system. I'm going there to end this war. Wait for me until I return. Things will be different. I promise. Please, wait for me. Well, he is under a lot of stress, R2. Take care, my little friend. Oh, my lady, is there anything I might do? No, thank you, 3PO. I feel so helpless. How many other Jedi have managed to survive? Heard from no one have we. I saw thousands of troops attack the Jedi temple. That's why I went looking for Yoda. Have we had any contact from the temple? Received a coded retreat message we have. It requests all Jedi to return to the temple. - It says the war is over. - Then we must go back. If there are any stragglers, they will fall into the trap and be killed. Suggest dismantling the coded signal, do you? Yes, Master. There is too much at stake. I agree. And a little more knowledge might light our way. The plan has gone as you had promised, my lord. You have done well, Viceroy. When my new apprentice Darth Vader arrives... he will take care of you. We're receiving a message from the chancellor's offce, sir. - Send it through. - Yes, sir. Senator Organa, the supreme chancellor requests your presence... at a special session of Congress. - I will be there. - He'll be expecting you. - Could be a trap. - I don't think so. The chancellor will not be able to control the thousands of star systems... without keeping the senate intact. If a special session of Congress there is... easier for us to enter the Jedi temple it will be. R2, stay with the ship. Welcome, Lord Vader. We've been expecting you. And the Jedi rebellion has been foiled. What's happened? The chancellor's been elaborating on a plot by the Jedi to overthrow the senate. The remaining Jedi will be hunted down and defeated. Not even the younglings survived. Killed not by clones this Padawan. By a lightsabre he was. Who? Who could have done this? The attempt on my life... has left me scarred and deformed. But I assure you. My resolve has never been stronger! Stop! In order to ensure the security and continuing stability... the Republic will be reorganized... into the frst Galactic Empire! For a safe and secure society. So this is how liberty dies. With thunderous applause. The war is over. Lord Sidious promised us peace. We only want- I have recalibrated the code, warning all surviving Jedi to stay away. For the clones... to discover the recalibration a long time it will take. Wait. Master. There is something I must know. If into the security recordings you go, only pain will you fnd. I must know the truth, Master. It can't be. It can't be. You have done well, my new apprentice. Now, Lord Vader... go and bring peace to the Empire. I can't watch any more. Destroy the Sith we must. Send me to kill the emperor. I will not kill Anakin. To fght this Lord Sidious, strong enough you are not. He is like my brother. I cannot do it. Twisted by the dark side young Skywalker has become. The boy you trained, gone he is. Consumed by Darth Vader. I do not know where the emperor has sent him. I don't know where to look. Use your feelings, Obi-Wan, and fnd him you will. When was the last time you saw him? - Yesterday. - And do you know where he is now? Padm, I need your help. - He is in grave danger. - From the Sith? From himself. Anakin has turned to the dark side. You're wrong. How could you even say that? I have seen a security hologram... of him... killing younglings. Not Anakin. He couldn't. He was deceived by a lie. We all were. It appears that the chancellor is behind everything, including the war. Palpatine is the Sith lord we've been looking for. After the death of Count Dooku, Anakin became his new apprentice. I don't believe you. I can't. I must fnd him. You're going to kill him, aren't you? He has become a very great threat. I can't. Anakin is the father, isn't he? I'm so sorry. - Milady, let me come with you. - There's no danger. The fghting's over. And this is personal. As you wish, milady, but I strongly disagree. I'll be all right, Captain. This is something I must do myself. Besides, 3PO will look after me. Oh, dear. Do you know? I think I'm beginning to get the hang of this flying business. The separatists have been taken care of, my master. It is fnished then. You have restored peace and justice to the galaxy. Send a message to the ships of the Trade Federation. All droid units must shut down immediately. Very good, my lord. I saw your ship. - What are you doing out here? - I was so worried about you. Obi-Wan told me terrible things. What things? He said you've turned to the dark side. That you... killed younglings. Obi-Wan is trying to turn you against me. He cares about us. Us? He knows. He wants to help you. Anakin, all I want is your love. Love won't save you, Padm. - Only my new powers can do that. - At what cost? You're a good person. Don't do this. I won't lose you the way I lost my mother. I am becoming more powerful than any Jedi has ever dreamed of. And I'm doing it for you. To protect you. Come away with me. Help me raise our child. Leave everything else behind while we still can. Don't you see? We don't have to run away any more. I have brought peace to the Republic. I am more powerful than the chancellor. I can overthrow him. And together, you and I can rule the galaxy... make things the way we want them to be. I don't believe what I'm hearing. Obi-Wan was right. You've changed. I don't want to hear any more about Obi-Wan. The Jedi turned against me. Don't you turn against me. I don't know you any more. You're breaking my heart. You're going down a path I can't follow. Because of Obi-Wan? Because of what you've done. What you plan to do. Stop. Stop now. Come back. - I love you. - Liar! You're with him! You brought him here to kill me. Let her go, Anakin. Let her go. You turned her against me! You have done that yourself. You will not take her from me! Your anger and your lust for power have already done that. You have allowed this dark lord to twist your mind... until now you have become the very thing you swore to destroy. Don't lecture me, Obi-Wan. I see through the lies of the Jedi. I do not fear the dark side as you do. I have brought peace... freedom, justice and security to my new empire. Your new empire? Don't make me kill you. Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic, to democracy! If you're not with me... then you're my enemy. Only a Sith deals in absolutes. I will do what I must. You will try. I hear a new apprentice you have, Emperor. Or should I call you Darth Sidious? Master Yoda. You survived. Surprised? Your arrogance blinds you, Master Yoda. Now you will experience... the full power of the dark side. I have waited a long time for this moment... my little green friend. At last the Jedi are no more. Not if anything to say about it I have. At an end your rule is. And not short enough it was. If so powerful you are... why leave? You will not stop me. Darth Vader will become more powerful than either of us. Faith in your new apprentice misplaced may be. As is your faith in the dark side of the Force. Hurry. Careful timing we will need. Activate your homing beacon when you're ready. There's no sign of his body, sir. - Then he is not dead. - Double your search. Yes, sir. Right away, sir. Tell Captain Kagi to prepare my shuttle for immediate take-off. - Yes, Master. - I sense Lord Vader is in danger. Into exile I must go. Failed I have. I have failed you, Anakin. I have failed you. I should have known the Jedi were plotting to take over. Anakin, Chancellor Palpatine is evil! From my point of view, the Jedi are evil. Then you are lost! This is the end for you, my master. It's over, Anakin. I have the high ground. You underestimate my power. Don't try it. You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them! Bring balance to the Force, not leave it in darkness! I hate you! You were my brother, Anakin. I loved you. Master Kenobi. We have Miss Padm on board. Yes. Please, please hurry. We should leave this dreadful place. Is Anakin all right? Your Majesty, this way. There he is. He's still alive. Get a medical capsule immediately. Yes, sir. Right away. Excuse me, Master Yoda. Obi-Wan Kenobi has made contact. We'll take her to the medical centre. Quickly. Medically, she's completely healthy. For reasons we can't explain, we are losing her. - She's dying? - We don't know why. She has lost the will to live. We need to operate quickly if we are to save the babies. Babies? She's carrying twins. Luke. Oh, Luke. - It's a girl. - Leia. There's good in him. I know. I know there's... still- Lord Vader. Can you hear me? Yes, Master. Where is Padm? Is she safe? Is she all right? It seems, in your anger, you killed her. I? I couldn't have. She was alive. I felt it! Hidden, safe the children must be kept. We must take them somewhere where the Sith will not sense their presence. Split up they should be. My wife and I will take the girl. We've always talked of adopting a baby girl. She will be loved with us. And what of the boy? To Tatooine. To his family send him. I will take the child and watch over him. Until the time is right, disappear we will. Master Kenobi, wait a moment. In your solitude on Tatooine, training I have for you. Training? An old friend has learned the path to immortality. One who has returned from the netherworld of the Force. Your old master. Qui-Gon? How to commune with him I will teach you. - Captain Antilles. - Yes, Your Highness? I'm placing these droids in your care. Treat them well. Clean them up. Have the protocol droid's mind wiped. What?
