2024.05.19 22:42 DutyTop8086 How Much Money Do I Need to Start an FBA Business on Amazon?

1. Amazon Store Rent
First, let's talk about the monthly rent for an Amazon store. Registering an Amazon store is free, but using a company registration instead of a personal one is recommended. This approach is safer and has a higher approval rate. After registering, you can choose between an Individual account and a Professional account.
Individual Account: This account has no monthly fee, but you'll pay Amazon $0.99 for each item you sell. It’s suitable for sellers who are just starting out and have lower sales volumes.
Professional Account: This account costs $39.99 per month, but you won’t pay a fee per sale. This option is more cost-effective if you sell more than 40 items per month.
Recommendation: If you’re just starting and your sales are low, opt for the Individual account. As your sales increase and you consistently sell more than 40 items per month, switch to the Professional account to save on per-item fees.
  1. Product Selection Tools
Choosing the right products to sell is crucial for the success of your e-commerce business. Fortunately, there are several tools available to assist with this process, each offering unique features to help you make informed decisions.
Popular Paid Tools: JungleScout and Helium10

Keyword Research: Tools like Cerebro and Magnet help you discover and optimize for high-ranking keywords.
Listing Optimization: Features like Scribbles and Index Checker ensure your product listings are optimized for maximum visibility.
Free Tool: 4SELLER

Why Product Selection Tools are Essential
Using product selection tools is vital because they provide data-driven insights that help you make informed decisions. These tools can save you time and reduce the risk of choosing products that may not sell well. They offer features that allow you to:
Identify Trends: By analyzing market data, these tools help you stay ahead of trends and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
Evaluate Competition: Understanding your competition is crucial. These tools provide detailed analysis of competitors' products, pricing strategies, and sales performance.
Optimize Listings: Well-optimized product listings are more likely to attract buyers. These tools offer keyword research and listing optimization features that improve your product's visibility on e-commerce platforms.

Whether you opt for a paid tool like JungleScout or Helium10, or a free option like 4SELLER, leveraging these tools can significantly enhance your ability to select profitable products, manage inventory effectively, and optimize your listings for better performance.
3. Initial Stock Costs
Purchasing your first batch of products involves a significant initial investment, and the amount required can vary widely depending on the type of products you choose to sell. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what to consider when estimating your initial stock costs:
Factors Influencing Initial Stock Costs
Product Type and Price: The nature of the products you choose to sell will greatly influence your initial costs. Higher-priced items tend to have less competition but require a larger upfront investment. Conversely, cheaper products are more budget-friendly but often come with higher competition.
Quantity: The number of units you decide to purchase initially is another major factor. A common recommendation for new sellers is to start with 200-500 units. This range allows you to test the market demand without overcommitting financially.
Calculating Initial Costs
To estimate your initial stock costs, you need to multiply the quantity of units by the purchase price per unit. Here’s a simplified formula:
Initial Stock Cost=Quantity×Purchase Price per UnitInitial Stock Cost=Quantity×Purchase Price per Unit
For instance, if you decide to buy 300 units of a product that costs $5 per unit, your initial stock cost would be:
300 units×$5/unit=$1,500300 units×$5/unit=$1,500
Typical Budget Ranges for New Sellers
Low Budget: If you’re starting with a tighter budget, you might opt for products with a lower purchase price. For example, if you choose items costing around $2 per unit and purchase 200 units, your initial cost would be $400.
Moderate Budget: A more common range for new sellers is between $1,000 and $3,000. This allows for a balance between purchasing a reasonable quantity of units and managing the risk of unsold inventory. For example, buying 400 units at $5 per unit would total $2,000.
Higher Budget: With a larger budget, you can consider higher-priced items that might have less competition. For instance, purchasing 300 units at $10 per unit would result in an initial cost of $3,000.
Why Initial Stock Costs are Important
Understanding and planning for initial stock costs is critical because it ensures you are adequately prepared for the financial outlay required to launch your business. Here are a few reasons why this is essential:
Market Testing: Buying an appropriate number of units allows you to test market demand without over-investing. This way, you can gauge the product's popularity and adjust future orders accordingly.
Cash Flow Management: Proper planning helps manage your cash flow effectively. Ensuring you have enough funds to cover initial stock costs, along with other expenses like marketing and shipping, is crucial for maintaining business operations.
Risk Mitigation: Starting with a moderate quantity of units helps minimize the risk of unsold inventory, which can tie up capital and lead to losses. It’s better to start small, analyze performance, and scale up gradually.
Carefully estimating and planning for your initial stock costs is a vital step in setting up your e-commerce business. By understanding the factors that influence these costs and budgeting accordingly, you can make informed decisions that set the foundation for a successful venture. Whether you have a limited budget or can invest more significantly, strategic planning will help you manage risks and maximize your chances of success.
4. UPC Codes
UPC stands for Universal Product Code, a standardized barcode used by retailers, including Amazon, to track products. Obtaining UPC codes is a critical step in setting up your products for sale. Here’s a detailed explanation of why you need them, where to get them, and the associated costs.
What are UPC Codes?
Definition: UPC codes are unique identifiers assigned to products. Each code consists of a series of black bars and a corresponding 12-digit number that can be scanned by barcode readers.
Purpose: These codes help retailers manage inventory, streamline the checkout process, and track sales. For e-commerce platforms like Amazon, UPC codes ensure each product is uniquely identifiable, reducing errors and simplifying logistics.
Where to Buy UPC Codes
Official Source: GS1: The Global Standards 1 (GS1) organization is the official provider of UPC codes. Purchasing from GS1 ensures the authenticity and uniqueness of your codes, which is crucial for compliance with Amazon’s policies.
Why GS1?: While there are third-party sellers offering UPC codes at lower prices, these codes might not always be unique or compliant with GS1 standards. Using GS1 guarantees that your UPCs are globally recognized and legitimate, preventing potential issues with listing products on Amazon.
Cost of UPC Codes
Initial Purchase: GS1 sells UPC codes in packs. A pack of 10 UPCs costs $250 initially. This upfront cost covers the registration and issuance of the codes.
Annual Renewal Fee: In addition to the initial purchase cost, there is a $50 annual renewal fee. This fee ensures your codes remain active and your registration with GS1 stays current.
Breakdown of Costs
Initial Cost: For a pack of 10 UPC codes, the initial cost is $250.
Annual Renewal: The $50 annual renewal fee applies every year to maintain your codes.
Example Calculation:
If you purchase a pack of 10 UPCs, your total cost for the first year would be:
$250 (initial cost)+$50 (annual renewal fee)=$300$250 (initial cost)+$50 (annual renewal fee)=$300
In subsequent years, you will only pay the $50 renewal fee to keep your UPCs active.
Why UPC Codes are Important
Inventory Management: UPC codes play a crucial role in inventory management, allowing you to track stock levels accurately. This helps prevent stockouts and overstock situations.
Product Identification: Each UPC code is unique to a specific product, ensuring that Amazon and other retailers can correctly identify and catalog your items. This reduces the risk of listing errors and mix-ups.
Compliance and Credibility: Using GS1-issued UPC codes ensures compliance with Amazon’s listing requirements. This adds credibility to your listings and prevents potential issues that might arise from using unauthorized codes.
Efficiency and Automation: UPC codes facilitate the automation of various processes, including checkout, shipping, and inventory updates. This enhances operational efficiency and reduces manual workload.
Investing in UPC codes from GS1 is an essential step for any e-commerce business aiming to sell on platforms like Amazon. The initial cost of $250 for a pack of 10 UPCs, along with the $50 annual renewal fee, ensures that your products are uniquely identifiable and compliant with global standards. This investment not only helps in effective inventory management but also enhances the credibility and efficiency of your business operations.
5. Shipping and Distribution Costs
Shipping and distribution costs are critical components of your overall budget when selling on Amazon. These costs encompass various fees and charges that ensure your products reach Amazon’s warehouses and, ultimately, your customers. Here’s a detailed breakdown of what to consider and how these costs can impact your business.
Components of Shipping and Distribution Costs
Shipping to Amazon’s Warehouse: This involves the costs of transporting your products from your supplier to Amazon’s fulfillment centers. Factors influencing these costs include the size and weight of your products, the shipping method, and the distance between the supplier and the warehouse.
Packaging: Proper packaging is essential to protect your products during transit. This includes boxes, cushioning materials, and labeling.
Inspection Fees: To ensure quality and compliance with Amazon’s standards, you might need to pay for product inspections before they are shipped.
Import Duties and Taxes: If you are importing products from another country, customs duties and taxes will apply. These costs vary based on the product category and the country of origin.
Estimated Shipping Costs by Product Size
Small Items: For smaller products, shipping costs are generally lower. On average, you can expect to pay around $4 per unit for shipping.
Mid-sized Products: For larger or heavier items, shipping costs increase. These costs can range from $8 to $12 per unit, depending on the specific dimensions and weight of the products.
Amazon FBA Fees
Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) Fees: Once your products are in Amazon’s warehouse, the company handles storage, packaging, and shipping to customers. Amazon charges FBA fees for these services, which are based on the size and weight of the product.
Small and Light Items: FBA fees for smaller items typically range from $2.92 to $6.13 per unit.
Larger Items: For bigger or heavier products, FBA fees can be higher, reflecting the additional handling and shipping costs.
Breakdown of Costs

Why Shipping and Distribution Costs are Important
Budget Planning: Understanding and accurately estimating these costs is crucial for budgeting and financial planning. Unexpected expenses can significantly impact your profitability.
Pricing Strategy: These costs need to be factored into your pricing strategy to ensure you maintain healthy profit margins. Underestimating shipping and distribution costs can erode your margins and affect your competitiveness.
Customer Satisfaction: Efficient shipping and distribution are key to timely delivery and customer satisfaction. Using Amazon FBA ensures reliable and fast shipping, which can enhance your seller ratings and lead to repeat business.
Operational Efficiency: Managing these costs effectively can streamline your operations and improve cash flow. By optimizing packaging, negotiating better shipping rates, and accurately forecasting demand, you can reduce expenses and improve efficiency.
Shipping and distribution costs are a significant part of your overall expenses when selling on Amazon. By carefully estimating these costs, including packaging, inspection fees, import duties, and Amazon FBA fees, you can better manage your budget and pricing strategy. Understanding these costs helps ensure smooth operations, enhances customer satisfaction, and supports your business's profitability and growth.
6. Inventory Storage Costs
Inventory storage costs are a critical consideration when using Amazon’s Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service. These fees are based on the size and quantity of your inventory stored in Amazon’s warehouses and vary throughout the year. Here’s a detailed breakdown of these costs and their implications for your business.
Amazon’s Storage Fees
Amazon charges monthly storage fees that depend on the size category of your products (standard-size or oversized) and the time of year. The fees are higher during the holiday season (October to December) due to increased demand for warehouse space.
Standard-Size Storage Fees
January to September: $0.83 per cubic foot
October to December: $2.40 per cubic foot
Oversized Storage Fees
January to September: $0.53 per cubic foot
October to December: $1.20 per cubic foot
Calculating Storage Costs
To estimate your storage costs, you need to know the cubic footage of your inventory. Here’s how you can calculate it:
Cubic Footage=Length×Width×HeightCubic Footage=Length×Width×Height
Once you have the cubic footage, multiply it by the applicable storage fee rate.
Example Calculation for Standard-Size Products
Let’s say you have 500 units of a product, each measuring 1 cubic foot. Your storage costs would be:
January to September: 500 cubic feet×$0.83/cubic foot=$415500 cubic feet×$0.83/cubic foot=$415
October to December: 500 cubic feet×$2.40/cubic foot=$1,200500 cubic feet×$2.40/cubic foot=$1,200
Example Calculation for Oversized Products
If you have 200 units of an oversized product, each measuring 3 cubic feet, your storage costs would be:
January to September: 600 cubic feet×$0.53/cubic foot=$318600 cubic feet×$0.53/cubic foot=$318
October to December: 600 cubic feet×$1.20/cubic foot=$720600 cubic feet×$1.20/cubic foot=$720
Why Inventory Storage Costs Matter
Budget Management: Accurately estimating storage costs is crucial for budgeting and financial planning. These costs can add up, especially during peak seasons, impacting your overall profitability.
Inventory Turnover: High storage costs can incentivize better inventory management practices, such as maintaining optimal stock levels and ensuring a higher inventory turnover rate. This helps in reducing long-term storage fees and minimizing the risk of overstocking.
Seasonal Planning: Knowing that storage fees increase during the holiday season can help you plan your inventory levels more effectively. You might choose to stock up on faster-moving items or reduce slower-moving inventory before the fees increase.
Cost Control: By understanding these fees, you can implement strategies to minimize them, such as reducing the size of your packaging, negotiating better storage terms, or using other fulfillment centers if necessary.
Strategies to Manage Storage Costs
Optimize Inventory Levels: Maintain a balance between having enough stock to meet demand and avoiding excess inventory that incurs high storage costs.
Seasonal Adjustments: Plan your inventory levels based on seasonal fluctuations in storage fees, ensuring you minimize costs during peak periods.
Efficient Packaging: Use packaging that minimizes space without compromising product safety. Smaller packaging reduces the cubic footage and, consequently, storage fees.
FBA Inventory Management: Use Amazon’s inventory management tools to monitor and adjust your stock levels based on sales data and forecasts.
Inventory storage costs are an important aspect of selling on Amazon using FBA. These costs, varying by product size and season, can significantly impact your business’s profitability. By accurately estimating these fees and implementing strategies to manage and reduce them, you can optimize your inventory management and control expenses effectively. Understanding and planning for these costs will help ensure a smoother and more profitable operation.
  1. Platform Commission
When selling on Amazon, it’s essential to account for the platform commission, known as the referral fee. This fee is a percentage of each sale and varies by product category. Understanding these fees is crucial for pricing your products and calculating your profit margins.
Amazon’s Referral Fees
Amazon charges a referral fee on each sale made through its platform. The percentage varies depending on the product category. Here are some common examples:
Electronics: 8%
Beauty Products: 15%
Books: 15%
Clothing and Accessories: 17%
Home and Kitchen: 15%
How Referral Fees Are Calculated
The referral fee is calculated as a percentage of the total sales price, which includes the item price and any shipping or gift wrap charges.
Referral Fee=Sales Price×Referral Fee PercentageReferral Fee=Sales Price×Referral Fee Percentage
Example Calculations
Electronics: If you sell a gadget for $100, the referral fee would be: $100×8%=$8$100×8%=$8
Beauty Products: If you sell a skincare product for $50, the referral fee would be: $50×15%=$7.50$50×15%=$7.50
Why Platform Commission is Important
Pricing Strategy: Knowing the referral fee helps you set your product prices appropriately to ensure you cover costs and achieve desired profit margins.
Profit Margin Calculation: Understanding the commission allows you to accurately calculate your net profit after deducting all fees.
Category Selection: The commission rate can influence your decision on which product categories to focus on. Lower commission rates in certain categories might lead to higher profitability.
Competitive Pricing: Factoring in the referral fee ensures your prices remain competitive while still being profitable.
Impact on Different Product Categories
High-Commission Categories: Categories like beauty products and clothing with higher referral fees require careful pricing to maintain profitability. High fees can significantly impact margins, especially for low-cost items.
Low-Commission Categories: Categories like electronics with lower referral fees can offer better profit margins, but these categories might also have higher competition.
Strategies to Manage Referral Fees
Optimize Pricing: Adjust your pricing to ensure it covers all costs, including the referral fee, while remaining attractive to customers.
Product Selection: Consider the referral fee when selecting products to sell. Products in categories with lower fees might be more profitable.
Bundle Products: Creating product bundles can help increase the average sales price, potentially offsetting the impact of the referral fee.
Platform commission is a significant cost factor when selling on Amazon. By understanding the referral fee structure and calculating these fees accurately, you can make informed decisions about pricing, product selection, and profitability. Properly managing and accounting for these fees ensures your business remains competitive and financially sustainable on the Amazon platform.
8. Advertising Costs
Advertising is a crucial component of your e-commerce strategy, driving visibility and sales for your products on Amazon. Effective advertising can help you reach potential customers quickly, but it requires a financial investment. Here’s a detailed breakdown of advertising costs, strategies, and their impact on your business.
Types of Advertising
Amazon Advertising: The primary form of advertising on Amazon is Pay-Per-Click (PPC) ads. These ads appear in search results and on product detail pages, allowing you to target specific keywords and audiences.
Sponsored Products: These ads promote individual product listings and appear in search results and product pages.
Sponsored Brands: These ads feature your brand logo, a custom headline, and multiple products.
Sponsored Display: These ads target audiences both on and off Amazon, helping to re-engage shoppers who have viewed your products.
Off-Amazon Advertising: To broaden your reach, you can also advertise on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. These platforms allow for targeted advertising based on demographics, interests, and behaviors.
Budgeting for Advertising
A typical budget for new sellers on Amazon ranges from $700 to $1,000. This budget should cover various advertising strategies, including PPC campaigns and social media ads.
Cost Breakdown
Amazon PPC Ads:
Sponsored Products: These are the most common and can cost anywhere from $0.10 to $2.00 per click, depending on the competitiveness of your keywords.
Sponsored Brands: These ads generally cost more per click due to their higher visibility and brand promotion capabilities.
Sponsored Display: Costs vary but can be effective for retargeting potential customers.
Social Media Advertising:
Facebook Ads: Costs typically range from $0.50 to $2.00 per click, depending on targeting options and competition.
Instagram Ads: Similar to Facebook, Instagram ad costs range from $0.50 to $2.00 per click, with the advantage of visual storytelling through images and videos.
Example Budget Allocation
Let’s allocate a $1,000 advertising budget across different platforms:
Amazon PPC Ads: $600
Sponsored Products: $400
Sponsored Brands: $150
Sponsored Display: $50
Social Media Ads: $400
Facebook Ads: $200
Instagram Ads: $200
Why Advertising is Important
Increased Visibility: Advertising ensures your products appear in front of potential buyers, increasing the likelihood of sales.
Competitive Edge: With many sellers on Amazon, advertising helps you stand out and reach customers who might otherwise not find your products.
Sales Velocity: Effective advertising can boost your sales velocity, improving your product rankings and increasing organic visibility over time.
Strategies for Effective Advertising
Keyword Research: Use tools like Amazon’s Keyword Planner or third-party tools to identify high-performing keywords for your PPC campaigns.
A/B Testing: Continuously test different ad creatives, headlines, and targeting options to find the most effective combinations.
Monitor and Optimize: Regularly review your ad performance data to optimize your campaigns. Adjust bids, pause underperforming keywords, and allocate more budget to high-performing ads.
Leverage Social Media: Use Facebook and Instagram to build brand awareness and drive traffic to your Amazon listings. Engaging content, such as videos and customer testimonials, can enhance ad performance.
Advertising is a vital part of your e-commerce strategy on Amazon and beyond. Allocating a budget of $700 to $1,000 for advertising can significantly enhance your product visibility and drive sales. By utilizing Amazon PPC ads and leveraging social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, you can reach a broader audience and increase your chances of success. Effective advertising requires continuous monitoring and optimization, but the investment can lead to substantial returns in terms of sales growth and brand recognition.
9. Returns and Refunds
Managing returns and refunds is an inevitable part of selling on Amazon. While they can impact your profitability, understanding the associated costs and implementing effective management strategies can help mitigate their effects. Here’s a detailed breakdown of the costs and considerations involved in handling returns and refunds.
Amazon Return Processing Fees
Amazon charges a return processing fee that varies depending on the product’s size and weight. This fee is applied when a customer returns a product, and it covers the cost of handling and processing the return.
Standard-Size Products: Fees for standard-size products are typically lower due to their smaller dimensions and weight.
Oversized Products: Fees for oversized products are higher because of the additional handling and storage space required.
Example Fee Structure
Standard-Size Product Return Fee: Approximately $2 to $5 per unit, depending on the specific dimensions and weight.
Oversized Product Return Fee: Approximately $5 to $20 per unit, depending on the specific dimensions and weight.
Additional Costs of Returns and Refunds
Restocking Fees: Amazon may charge a restocking fee for certain returned items. This fee is deducted from the refund amount and can range from 10% to 20% of the item’s price.
Return Shipping Costs: In some cases, you may be responsible for covering the cost of return shipping, especially if the return is due to a defect or error on your part.
Product Condition: Returned items that are not in resellable condition may need to be disposed of or liquidated, leading to additional losses.
Why Returns and Refunds Matter
Customer Satisfaction: Efficient handling of returns and refunds is crucial for maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction and positive reviews. Poor management can lead to negative feedback and damage your seller reputation.
Cost Management: Understanding and anticipating the costs associated with returns can help you better manage your budget and pricing strategy, ensuring you account for these potential expenses.
Inventory Control: Effective return management helps maintain accurate inventory levels and reduces the risk of overstocking or stockouts.
Strategies to Manage Returns and Refunds
Clear Product Descriptions: Provide detailed and accurate product descriptions to reduce the likelihood of returns due to customer dissatisfaction or misunderstandings.
Quality Control: Implement rigorous quality control measures to minimize defects and errors that could lead to returns.
Customer Service: Offer excellent customer service to address issues promptly and potentially resolve problems without necessitating a return.
Return Policies: Establish clear and fair return policies that balance customer satisfaction with protecting your business from excessive costs.
Example Calculation
Let’s consider you sell 100 units of a product, with an average return rate of 5%. Here’s how you can calculate the potential costs:
Product Price: $50 per unit
Return Rate: 5% (5 units)
Return Processing Fee: $3 per unit
Restocking Fee: 15% of the product price ($7.50 per unit)
Return Shipping Cost: $5 per unit
Total Return and Refund Costs:
Return Processing Fee=5 units×$3=$15Return Processing Fee=5 units×$3=$15 Restocking Fee=5 units×$7.50=$37.50Restocking Fee=5 units×$7.50=$37.50 Return Shipping Cost=5 units×$5=$25Return Shipping Cost=5 units×$5=$25
Total Costs:
$15+$37.50+$25=$77.50$15+$37.50+$25=$77.50
Handling returns and refunds is a necessary aspect of selling on Amazon, and the associated costs can add up quickly. By understanding the fees and implementing strategies to manage returns effectively, you can minimize their impact on your profitability. Clear product descriptions, stringent quality control, excellent customer service, and well-defined return policies can all contribute to reducing return rates and associated costs. Efficient return management not only helps maintain customer satisfaction but also supports better cost control and inventory management.

Shipping and Distribution Costs: Includes fees for shipping products to Amazon’s warehouse and Amazon’s Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) fees, which range from $2.92 to $6.13 per unit. Shipping small items might cost around $4 per unit, while mid-sized products could cost $8-$12 per unit.
Inventory Storage Costs: Monthly fees for storing products in Amazon’s warehouse vary by size and season. Standard-size storage costs $0.83 per cubic foot from January to September and $2.40 per cubic foot from October to December. Oversized storage costs $0.53 per cubic foot and $1.20 per cubic foot during these periods, respectively.
Platform Commission: Amazon takes a commission on each sale, typically between 8% and 15%, depending on the product category. For instance, electronics have a referral fee of 8%, while beauty products have a fee of 15%.
Advertising Costs: To drive visibility and sales, set aside $700-$1,000 for advertising. This includes Amazon PPC ads and potentially social media ads on platforms like Facebook and Instagram.
Returns and Refunds: Handling returns incurs costs, including Amazon’s return processing fee, restocking fees, and return shipping costs. These fees vary based on product size and weight.
Miscellaneous Expenses: Other costs include graphic design for product listings ($50-$200 per listing), professional photography ($100-$500 per product), and virtual assistant services ($10-$30 per hour). Additional expenses may include subscription services, legal and accounting services, packaging design, and marketing materials.
In total, you'll need at least $5,000 to start an Amazon FBA business today. Plus, you'll need to spend a lot of time managing your store and optimizing your product listings. This includes continuously monitoring your sales performance, tweaking your advertising strategies, and keeping an eye on competitors to stay ahead in the market.
By understanding and planning for these costs, you can effectively manage your Amazon business, ensuring it remains profitable and efficient while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.

2024.05.19 22:23 cadburie Aerospace PhD at Oxford vs Bristol

Hi everyone, I have been applying to PhD courses in Aerospace engineering and have been offered funding for both Oxford and Bristol. Everyone I have spoken to is telling me I'd be stupid to take Bristol over Oxford, but the research topic is more interesting and varied at Bristol, the funding is a bit better, and I have a better relationship with my supervisor there.
I am keen to stay in academia after graduating, and Oxford is obviously Oxford, but does the better name really mean much if I prefer the work I'd be doing at Bristol? How would my future prospects compare at Bristol and at Oxford?
I am really stuck here so I'd be very grateful for any advice. Thank you!

2024.05.19 22:17 Full_Chest_9567 ISA Fund Split Advice

I have a LISA with Hargrieves Landsdown, £4K per year. Currently up 12% since I opened ~2 years ago. I have split equally between: * Rathbone Global Opportunities * Barings Europe Select * FSSA Asia Focus
I have a Junior ISA for our daughter, ~£2.4K per year into Vanguard. Currently up 20% since I opened ~2 years ago. Equally split between * FTSE Developed World UCITS ETF - Distributing (VEVE) * U.S. Equity Index Fund - Accumulation
I picked funds for myself and my daughter using the same thinking. Best performing over previous 5 years and low charges. I know past performance isn’t a predictor for future but I needed something to go on.
For my LISA, Barings Europe Select (~10%) & FSSA Asia Focus (5%) are bringing down my average. The two holdings in my daughter’s Junior ISA are pretty similar.
I’m wondering if I should just move all mine into Rathbone Global Opportunities or two years is too early to tell? Do people have advice about selling and moving fund investments on a regular basis? I’m not inclined to keep up with market developments and not keep to switch fund too often, life is busy enough with family, work and everything else.

2024.05.19 22:12 White_Ace_of_Spades The King Has No Clothes - Part 1 (Short Story)

Author's Note: Welp, I'm back. I'm going to be doing these super-short stories from now on instead of the multi-paged short stories that took several days to write. I tend to lose motivation in writing when I have long, drawn out stories. I just want to write these stories about my characters and focus on their character beats and emotions, rather than one long drawn out plot. I do intend on making an overarcing plot with these stories, but told over many, smaller instances.
This story introduces a new character that will not be recieving a character concept page. The reason why is because I simply am not interested in making game concepts and I'm not interested in Overwatch (The Game) anymore. I just want to focus on the stories of my characters.
Harvey King, the handsome, smooth-talking, knuckle-bruiser of Overwatch, now reduced to another ruffian locked behind steel bars. The once highly-esteemed son of New York Cities biggest tech conglomerate entrepenuer, Leonhard King, now another criminal locked away for life for the high crime of terrorism. Not only that, but he was thrown under the bus, used as a scapegoat to get pressure off of King Enterprises, the company that dad always loved more than his own son. His own son, dammit!
"I'm tellin you Harv," Sean muttered on from the top bunk. "you've gotta cool off or you'll get yourself killed!"
"Shut up!" Kingbursted out at his insolent cell mate. The New Worker was a fairly handsome man with a sharp jawline and beautiful nose, but his charcoal black hair had become ragged due to a profound lack of hair gel in prison. Harvey was looking into a glass shiv that he had stolen from the one-eyed punk down the isle, desperately trying to get the angle just right so that he could see his reflection in it. He ran is his fingers down his jaw line, feeling the creases and folds that had been left by Winston's Tesla Cannon. His perfect face, the face who's nose had never once been broken in all of Harvey's days of brawling, was now left with an electrical scar that he would have to live with for the foreseeable future, at least until he can break out of this hole and get it fixed with a healthy dosage of surgury. "That damn monkey, he ruined my face!" He turned to Sean. "Look at this, he ruined my face!"
"Yeah, I've been looking at it for the past month or so." Sean snickered.
"You realize I already have a life sentence?" King snarled, his tone had grew contempted.
"Yeah, so? Most people here d-"
"'That means it won't matter if I use your teeth for golf balls!"
"Oh please kid, you ain't the first young punk to threaten me li-"
"I'll be the first one to go through with it," King yelled at Sean. grabbing him by the collar and dragging him down from the top bunk. "If you don't shut your fu-"
"Shut up in there!" A guard banged his baton against the bars, interrupting King. "And get your hands off your cellmate!"
"Sorry officer," King put on a happy, personable tone of voice for the gaurd. He obediently dropped Sean. "Won't happen again, I promise."
"Yeah, yeah." The guard walked off, uninterested in King's crocodile smile.
The moment the guard turned his back, King's face switched like a lightbulb, going from bright and charismatic to dark and irritated in a mere moment. He turned back to his stupid cellmate and lashed out at him, grabbing his collar and pulling him in close. "I think we need to come to an understanding, you and I," Harvey spoke menacingly. "Look pal, I've already had to put up with a lotta bull lately. I do not need a dishevelled, ugly piece of crap, such as you, giving me more bull. So if you continue to irritate me, I'm gonna make you choke on your teeth. You get me?"
Sean, at a lost for words, simply nodded out of fear. Sean was ugly and dishevelled, Harvey was truthful when he said that, but he was also much smaller than Harvey and wouldn't be able to defend himself.
"Good." Harvey gave Sean a toothy grin. Even in the dimly lit, murkey prison cell, Harvey's teeth still glistened. He dropped Sean, who immediately crawled back onto the top bunk, hugging the wall this time as to avoid being pulled down again, and sat down on his cold, hard matress. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, trying to think of how to get out of this situation. Only he couldn't think of an escape plan, he had too much on his mind. He was trying to make sense of everything that's happened, the mistakes he made that lead to this point. He had everyone at Overwatch wrapped around his fingers like marionettes, his facade was perfectly crafted. He couldn't help but reminisce about when he first started, the conversation he had with his father to get the whole thing set up, the developing of squeaky-clean persona that would be irresistable to Winston and Sojourn, the persona that landed him a spot on Overwatch's small roster of agents and made everyone fall in love with him. Well, not literally fall in love with him, but he was a natural smooth talker and very easy to like upon first meeting.
He remembered the conversation with his father that got him introduced to the likes of Winston in the first place, the conversation between his father and the leaders of Overwatch. King Enterprises had promised to provide Overwatch with funding, but only so Harvey could get a chance within their ranks. Leonhard King, father of Harvey King, was the CEO of King Enterprises. The old man was an idealist, and so was his only son. They wanted to leave a good impact on the world, with King Enterprises having been nicknamed "The Company of the People"; at least, that's what the public saw. No, the real Leonhard King was a tyranical capitalist who valued money over human rights, a greedy old man who was born into a mafia family, but being the the second-born meant he never got a chance to take over the family when his father died. Instead, it was his elder brother, Everett King II, named after his and Leonhard's father, who got to take over the family. Unsatisfied with being second fiddle, Leonhard left the family completely to become an entrepanuer, and now, 50 years later, he was on top of New York's social hierarchy with the biggest tech conglomerate in New England. King Enterprises was built into many facets of life in America, they built all sorts of cars, home appliances, home security systems, but that's only what the media saw.
Of course, Leonhard never shook off his knack for crime. He was a King, and criminality flowed through the King Bloodline; taking money out of decent folks pockets was in their blood. The horrible truth of the matter was that King Enterprises, "The Company of the People", got into all sorts of shady business, such as illegally shipping arms overseas, racketeering, maintaining ties in the black market, and lobbying shady politicians. On top of that, King Enterprises was a major player in the Military Industrial Complex, producing all sorts of weapons for the government, and shipping all the surplus over seas to other countries; a good chunk of all equipment used by the U.S. military was manufactored by King Enterprises. And it is because of this influence on the Military Industrial Complex that Leonhard King also provides funding to terrorist organizations such as Talon, organizations who are keen on creating conflict and pushing the world to the edge of war. Corporate corruption ran through every level of King Enterprises, and everyone outside of the corporation was none the wiser.
It was yard time, and King was hanging out alone. He hadn't made any attempts to socialize with any of the other ruffians the populate the prison, for he isn't planning on staying very long, but he did intend on working out as much as he could while he was there. A long time ago, when King was a kid hanging out in the slums of New York, he had a buddy called Twig. He was called Twig because he was very skinny, but mostly because King wasn't a very imaginitive nicknamer. He got sent to prison at the age of 16 for accidentally killing a guy while trying to jack his car, and came out a few years later completely jacked. King ended up shooting and killing him a while after he got outta prison, mostly because Twig blamed King for getting locked up and wanted revenge, but King still remembered in high regards.
King was readying himself for the bench press, stretching and giving himself a mental preptalk, thinking along the lines of "just cuz you're in prison doesn't mean ain't King no more," and the like. While he was getting ready, a loud, gruff voice cut off his train of thought. "Hey, punk!" King swung his head around to see who was yelling at him, and beheld a man who was around his same height, but very, very prison-jacked. Not as prison-jacked as Twig was, but still very prison-jacked. "Your daddy wanted to give you a message." This man didn't seem particularly friendly.
"My daddy?" King was not happy about this. A message from his father? Really? That old bastard wanted nothing to do with his son, and if he wanted to send him a message, he could visit him on every other thursday! "The hell's the meaning of this?"
"He said you couldn't be naming any name, kid. Said you'd understand." The big man pulled out a shiv, swinging his arm forward while rushing at King.
"The hell!?" King exclaimed, caught off guard by the sudden attack. He managed to catch the man's wrist, stopping the shiv from plunging right into his guts. He had to act quickly, he wouldn't be able to hold this man's arm for very long before he got overpowered, so he had to resort to some dirty tactics. Spitting in the man's eyes then kicking him in the shin did the trick, causing the jacked man to faulter and drop his shiv. Harvey had been in many a street fight during his life, and with the shiv out of the equation he would be also to out-box this man. King was an experienced brawler, he learned how to tussle on the streets of New York City, and was once mentored by a prize-fighter how to box. If not for his father's interference, King would've spent his entire life living in slums, hanging around his Uncle's turf, instead of in the King's Estate with his father.
With his attacker instinctually wiping spit out from his eyes, King had the perfect opportunity to land his signature KO'ing right hook right into the man's dome. King wasn't the biggest, most intimidating fella on the block, but he knew how to throw a punch with a surprising amount of power. King threw several more punches, beating the man senseless with merciless intensity, just to let off some steam that he's been holding in since his incarceration. He would've beaten that man to death if he hadn't been hit in the shoulder by a gaurd's heavy baton from behind. King fell down and got tackled by a gaurd, ending the fight.
Thursday rolled around, and it was the other thursday. King, of course, didn't have any visitors, but he did have a phone call. King impatiently tapped on the tabletop, eagerly waiting for someone to pick up the phone. A wide, sparkling smile stretched across his face as the wheezy voice of an elderly smoker come out the phone. "Who is this?" The voice calmly asked.
"Hey, Uncle."

2024.05.19 22:08 Dry_Process_9567 Hope?

Went to my local CVS in NOVA and the pharmacist said she is starting to get doses. She said my 15 will be in tomorrow. I’m still also moving forward with compound as a back up plan, tired of being in limbo.
It’s been a fiasco the last couple of months.
I bought a bunch of Lily stock at the end of last year when I started Zep (I pay out of pocket so figured I would try to benefit off my spend somehow). Sold it all Friday, the med is great but I imagine many will just stick with compound, I do not have a whole lot of faith in Lily.
Granted I did make enough on the stock buy/sale to fund whatever version of Tirz I go with for the next 12 months…however, those gains all happened in the first couple of month of the year, stock has been flat for the last 3 months.

2024.05.19 22:02 StuBidasol Unifi U6 Pro controller help

I have a single U6 Pro and I'm currently using the android app which is very limited. I tried finding the controller software to load onto my Windows 11 machine but every link I find takes me to a lisiting hell of 100+ downloads of various software/firmware. They really need categories. I have a recently decomissioned PC that I could run dedicated software on if needed but I don't have funds (or need) for a Dream Machine or anything like that currently. I remember when I was looking into the U6 that there was software mentioned that was recommended to run 24/7 but could be used as needed. If I didn't misunderstand things completely can anyone point me to what I'm looking for?
I purchased it initially to replace my aging Netgear AP after I setup a pfSense router with the idea of future expansion. Probably overkill, I know.

While I’ve contemplated boosting my monthly contributions even further, I believe I have achieved an optimal balance. I’m able to invest wisely for the future while still enjoying my present lifestyle without compromises. Additionally, I have secured a safety net by saving six months of my income in an easy-access cash ISA, currently earning a 5.10% AER (variable tracker).

2024.05.19 21:48 StanleyColt32 Adding challenge without making bots OP?

Hi, So I've been playing SPT for a few months now, and Ive had a ton of fun. However I ran into an issue where as soon as I get a decent stash going the game shifts from being Tarkov to being Call of Duty. What I mean is that I stop caring about loot, I just push fights non stop, often not even picking up what the other PMCs or even bosses drop. I might loot the occasional air drop but its mostly out of curiosity as to whats inside rather than the need to acquire loot to sell and fund my future raids.
I've set the AI difficulty in SAIN to the highest I could find there and I still find the bots to be easy enough to fight. I dont always win, but I still come out on top on most of the fights. I'd like to get my ass handed to me every other raid or so, hopefully that will make me actually give a shit about loot and trying to pick my fights instead of going guns blazing knowing that Im likely to survive.
Is there anything else I can do to increase the challenge?

2024.05.19 21:37 AlwaysReliable__ Visual Guide for Week #21 Model Range Profiles - May 19th - May 24th

Visual Guide for Week #21 Model Range Profiles - May 19th - May 24th
Update from last weekends post: https://www.reddit.com/thetagang/comments/1cqdj0q/week_19_results_guide_for_week_20_model_range/

Happy Sunday, ThetaGang!!

We are entering the second half of May and rapidly approach the summer trading sessions.
Let's do a quick review of the market the past week. We saw major inflation data releases, a few notable updates on the corporate side, and there was Options Expiration (OPEX) on Friday. Given the volatility compression, the SPX reached new all-time highs on consecutive trading sessions before pulling back on Friday.
With the start of a new week and a fresh front month for options, we might anticipate some bearish pressure as longer-dated hedges are established.
***There are a few acronyms you may need to help you understand this post:
CCS/PCS - Call Credit Spread/Put Credit Spread
CDS/PDS - Call Debit Spread/Put Debit Spread
PVI - Pure Value Index. The name of the trading system/strategies. The PVI High and PVI Low are the strikes that we are aiming to sell throughout the week to capture stable weekly income.
PWG - Private Wealth Group. The Daily PWG Levels and Weekly PWG Levels are proprietary levels. The levels were coded over into TradingView and are produced automatically at market open (or Globex open for the weekly levels). The PWG Weekly levels are mainly used to identify areas of potential support and resistance, but also as levels to HEDGE against the CCS/PCS (I.e. Long/Short futures as a hedge to the sold CCS/PCS).
WK Buy Trigger - Weekly Buy Trigger (one of the PWG levels)
NATH - New All Time High
VP - Volume Profile
HVN - High Volume Node
LVN - Low Volume Node
POC - Point of Control
OPEX - Option Expiration

Weekly Recap (May 12th - May 17th)

The initial models for last week indicated that the main cluster of models were between 5340-5390 (NATH) on the upside and downside ranges were showing confluence between 5060-5140.
SPX Model Ranges for May 12th - May 17th
The main outliers that stood out were the 2 models that were INSIDE the main clusters -- the 5260 upside and 5190.
SPX Model Ranges from May 12th-May 17th prior to the week starting
We recommended people take the opportunity to snag a 5-wide CDS/PDS at those levels (5260/65 CDS and 5190/95 PDS) as one side was VERY likely to tag (given that those outliers were well inside PVI clusters and even the Weekly Straddle EM).
The SPX (SPXW) MAY 17'24 5265 CALLS GOT UP TO >$40 on Wednesday from $4 early in the week!! Anyone who bought the outlier with a naked long call should have saw great profits, on top of helping fund the credit spreads.
My comment on another post last week about 5-wide Debit Spreads

Weekly Results (May 6th - May 10th)

I have included the PVI strikes from last week onto the chart. These are the "Final" levels that get populated on the PVI spreadsheet and are the ideal targets for their short strike for their weekly credit spread (100-Wide Credit Spread at or outside this level).
SPX Daily Chart - Showing where priced moved compared to SPX Straddle and PVI Model Range Predictions. INcluded Volume Profile from April 1-Now and SPX Straddle EM
The PWG weekly levels (seen below) are generated on Sunday night in Trading view. "The Box" - which is the zone between the Weekly Supply level (R1) and Weekly Demand level (S1) helps give a bias for price action.
Ideally, above the box we have a bias to look for areas of support to buy - below the box we look for areas of resistance to then short.
The PWG Conservative level is a weekly level and is just 1 component of the larger PVI system that specifically incorporates a volatility component into the calculation.
SPX 15 Minute Chart - Showing Price Action, PVI Model Ranges, Weekly PWG Levels, and PVI Strikes
Early in the week there was heavy chop on SPX with the CPI release and Jobless claims, and OPEX on Friday. After what was perceived as cool economic data, the expectation of a SummeFall rate cut increased slightly and markets lifted to NATH in consecutive sessions. SPX actually gapped open on Wednesday (and a gap open above the WK Supply level) and never attempted to retest that zone.
SPX hit the initial cluster of the PVI high models on Wednesday and pushed to the upper end of that zone (5325) during trading on Thursday.
The large push up and then back down into the close on Thursday was mostly attributed to positioning for OPEX on Friday, with the SPX 5300 Call holders getting beaten down at the final moments
- We had discussions in another post warning earlier in the day that a PDS near 5300 would be advisable as the MM's would prefer not to pay out the 5300 Call holders.
Even with the push higher on Thursday, there was limited call premium at the 4375 strike on -- The PVI strike puts were going for .05 cents and the PVI strike calls were going for .10 cents at the close.
What did that tell us at the time?? -- IF OPTION PREMIUM IS NOT THERE, PRICE ISN'T GOING THERE.
Now, does that mean premium can't change? Of course it can. But this just means that option premium can give you a tell of potential price action (or lack thereof).
For example - If the option premium for the PVI Call Strike Premium is going up during the session, but price is drifting down, you'd be potentially looking for levels to get cheap upside exposure (something is causing upside pressure/expectations to increase the premium of the call).
SPX 15 Min Chart - Showing Price Action, PVI Model Ranges, Daily PWG Levels, and PVI Strikes
Nobody should have been underwater selling CCS/PCS this week at those levels, nor should anyone have had their position seriously challenged. Especially if you were able to take a call at the outlier inside the ranges as a hedge/lotto earlier in the week.
With all that being said, let's go ahead and shift our attention to the models for this upcoming week and get a plan forming!!

Weekly Preview (May 19th - May 24th)

For this upcoming week, the range on the upside is indicating the main cluster of models between 5370-5380 (NATH) and downside ranges showing confluence between 5190-5210.
PVI Model Ranges for May 19th - May 24th
You will see compared to last week that there are no major outliers inside the ranges. So the opportunity for an "Easy" option play isn't there.
There isn't much on the upside (besides ATH) to use as reference for price discovery, so we will have to wait and see if we push up above 5350 what kind of interest there is.
SPX Model Ranges overlayed on Daily SPX Chart for May 19th - May 24th
There is clearly poor structure on the downside after the last few weeks of upward momentum. There are two significant gap fill levels on the daily chart at 5250 (coincides with the VAH of the Volume Profile) and at 5073 (near the lower end of the VP near VAL).
Your eyes should also move to the large node at 5200 as that is sitting directly on the largest HVN on the profile (which is POC), which tends to be a magnet for price action.
In terms of Economic Events for the week - https://tradingeconomics.com/calendar
There are a bunch of speeches by Fed Members this week, as well as the minutes released from the last FOMC. The major economic data will come Thursday morning with Initial Jobless Claims.

Weekly Gameplan (May 19th - May 24th)

Reminder that the Model Ranges are just one step in the entire PVI process, and that the outputs of the model ranges are not scripture. However, we are getting an opportunity to start planning for when price action may move towards certain levels.
I've stated it before and I will say it here that I am personally legging into some longer dated (1-3 month) hedges. Obviously not trade advice nor should you blindly follow - I am in a position now where putting on some downside exposure is a good enough R:R given the last two months.
Once again a reminder that capital preservation and risk management is key to long term success. Size accordingly and be ready for max loss.
"Learn to love what is in the work."
Be prepared for each week. And that starts with putting in the work when the market is closed. Hopefully these posts help encourage you to start doing the same and assist you on your own trading journey.
See you all for GLOBEX and another week of trading!!

2024.05.19 21:26 Dreary_Libido Counter-proposal for a Trans Ethnostate

Counter-proposal: All tranners move to Malta and take over the country.
The nation of Malta boasts a tiny population (half a million total), a pleasant climate, and some of the most liberal attitudes towards tranners there are. I propose that with enough tranners, money and political will we could dominate the country and turn it towards our ends.
The plan would be as follows:
This will involve moving a core of politically-motivated tranners to the island as an advance party, to lay the groundwork for our eventual state - a sort of 'Trans National Society'. This would involve raising funds from the global trans community to purchase properties in Malta for tranners to live in, to invest in a Trans Sovereign Wealth Fund to ensure we can afford our plans, build a reliabile system of HRT supply, and build influence among the Maltese political class. The first two policies this society should push for are state-sponsored HRT and an accelerated path to citizenship for trans people fleeing persecution.
(this first wave should be wealthy, western trans people - ideally from professional backgrounds and at least a little easy on the eyes. The first wave need to be seen as ideal migrants aside from their trans status, so the Maltese state is incentivised to cater to us in future)
Once a functioning and well-funded political machine is established, we must begin the mass importation of trans people from around the world to Malta. This will be done in three ways; firstly, by using our funds to directly sponsor the immigration of trans people who cannot afford the trip themselves, ideally influencing the Maltese state to support these efforts. Secondly, by funding Maltese politicians amenable to our plans and ensuring the sitting government is as pro-trans as humanly possible, ideally to the point of offering an accelerated path to citizenship for trans people fleeing persecutiom. Thirdly, by covertly sponsoring transphobic governments in otherwise tolerant countries. This third point may seem immoral, but it is crucial to ensuring Malta becomes not just a trans haven, but the trans haven. We must encourage all trans people, even those in comfortable circumstances, to join our project.
Once arrived, new trans migrants who cannot afford it should be provided subsidised housing, HRT (if it is not already free), and an allowance for their living costs by the Trans National Society. They must also be pushed to take Maltese citizenship and aided in doing so - in fact, this should be a prerequisite of any material support. This is essential to embed ourselves as a core part of Maltese society, not merely as tolerated outsiders.
Once the Trans National Society is reliably facilitating the mass-movement of tranners to Malta, the next step is building a unified trans culture and society.
The trans people imported to Malta will be from all over the world. There will be hons and passoids, poonchads and enbycopers, unified not by language, culture or creed - only by transness.
Mercifully, Malta does keep English as an official language. This will help initial integration efforts, but we should not continue to speak English for long. Instead, trans migrants to Malta must be encouraged to learn and speak Maltese.
This is for two reasons. Firstly, it will build a sense of unity among us which is inherent to the land of Malta. We want to become so associated with the island that trans teens in transphobic countries can apply for a course in Maltese at their high school and upon completion be shipped here with us. Making Maltese the official language of global trandom will bind us to the land forever. Secondly, it will go some ways to ingratiating us with the local Maltese, who will naturally chafe at our mass arrival even if we are controlling their political and media landscape.
We want to create a system where the Maltese nation is seen by the world as the rightful home of transgender people. Where being trans and being Maltese are synonymous, and where any trans person anywhere in the world will be seen as inherently connected to Malta. Where a Maltese accent is simply known as a 'Trans accent'.
Thus integrated, trans citizens of Malta should be encouraged to participate actively in civil society. To join political parties, to run businesses, to join the military and to be active participants in the life of the island. We must not allow ourselves - ever - to be seen or to see ourselves as foreigners. We should behave as natives who simply happened to be born somewhere else.
If the previous steps are successful, we will dominate Maltese society so utterly that there will be no need for this. However, it could be possible that we are not wholly successful or that backlash ensues. For this reason, the possibility of trans secession should never be discounted.
Once embedded in Malta, specific emphasis should be given to settling tranners on the island of Gozo - Malta's second largest island. With a population of 40'000, our goal should be to outnumber the locals significantly as soon as possible. Settlement should also focus on developing medical infrastructure to ensure the mass settlement does not delay anyone's transition.
In the event that our position in Malta is threatened, the Trans National Society should begin campaigning for Gozan secession. Using every inch of political and economic leverage we have, a referendum must be forced in which we - as the island's new majority - would inevitably win. Trans people remaining in Malta proper should be moved to Gozo, and the island turned into an explicitly trans state.
A sovereign trans nation would be the ultimate guarantee of trans rights in the world, but would also be a much lesser prize than simply usurping the existing Maltese state. This option should be avoided if there is any alternative.

2024.05.19 21:12 esusisesus Build Board - Easily organise & prioritise 3D printing projects

Build Board - Easily organise & prioritise 3D printing projects
TLDR: Built a service to help you easily save, organise and plan your 3D prints. Features include automatic imports of prints from Makerworld (including metadata, colours, tags, etc), adding custom design projects, adding notes, achievement badges, plus tags for priority, categories and multiple printers.
Hey bambulab 👋,
A friend and I spent the last few months working on Build Board, something we’re super excited to share with you!
It’s a kanban board designed specifically for 3D printing, helping you visually plan and manage projects through each stage of your workflow.
If you’re interested in signing up for free early access, check out www.build-board.io. Or, if you’d like a bit more context, more details below.
P.S. Please excuse our super simple/scrappy landing page. We plan to improve it, but as it’s just the two of us and the project is 100% self-funded, we’re focusing all our time/resource on the actual product.
A bit of background Having spent the last year trying a bunch of suggestions from forums/subreddits, or trying to hack together solutions using existing tools, I gained a lot of experience in learning what doesn’t work. While some of the options listed below might work for people who don’t print very often, things become unsustainable as print volume/frequency increase beyond a certain threshold.
Here’s some examples of things that I’ve tried and why they didn’t work.
  • Bookmarks - Often where prints go to die, unless you keep them super organised and immediately clear out links once that print is complete. Also, the more bookmarks you add, the harder it is to actually find specific prints in the future.
  • Folders, folders, folders - Very strict naming conventions plus endless folders and subfolders. Unfortunately this requires a tonne of willpower and schelp work. Considering everyone has their own unique system, this approach doesn’t scale well.
  • Notes App: Like bookmarks, but worse. They’re harder to save, manage and curate, plus easily become overwhelming.
  • Trello/Notion: Not designed for 3D printing in mind. Requires lots of repetitive and frustrating manual work to add prints, images, metadata, tags, etc. Too much friction to sustainably use.
  • STL galleries: Often just online folders with 3D preview thumbnails. Good for inventory management, but not great for organising or planning.
  • Collections/Favourites: While better than other options on this list, the UX usually encourages saving new prints, versus reviewing and printing previously saved ones. Also, when visiting websites that host print files, it’s easy to forget about saved prints and get distracted by new and shiny prints.
Having tried all of the above, I decided to try and design something better, inspired by something Adam Savage said in one of his Tested videos. Specifically, he was explaining that while 3D printing hardware and affordability have improved by an order of magnitude in recent years, there still weren’t many tools to help organise/prioritise prints.
Spurred on by the words of one of my childhood idols, I quickly designed an MVP for Build Board and then got a friend to help build the first few versions.
Current Features * Automatically import prints and metadata from Makerworld, including nozzle size, print time, filament type, colours, tags, etc. Imports from other websites to follow soon! * Create cards from scratch for projects you design yourself. * Easily drag and drop prints between each stage of your 3D printing workflow e.g. ideas, shortlist, print queue, post-processing, etc. * Quickly add notes to each print, tag categories or set a priority. * Archive completed prints to keep your board clutter free, while keeping a copy just in case.
What’s coming soon 🤞 * Auto-import Makerworld collections with one click. * Maker badges/achievements to help keep track of your 3D printing journey and milestones, but with a twist 🏅. * Smart tags/filters to provide contextual suggestions on what to print. For example, about to go to bed and don’t have anything queued for printing? No worries! We’ll automatically tag and suggest prints that will be ready in time for breakfast ☕️🍳. * Group and sort prints across multiple Bambu Lab printers and model types. For example, reserve larger or more complex projects for your X1C or P1S, while assigning smallequicker ones to your A1 or A1 mini. * Better plan prints by being able to see not just the print duration, but also the expected completion time. * Use print analytics to better understand printer usage in terms of number of prints, time spent printing, amount of filament used, etc.
How to get involved * If you’re interested in trying out our early access beta, please sign up at build-board.io. The more people we have on board, the better we can understand what to build or improve next! * Alternatively if you have any questions, feedback or just want to support us, feel free to comment here and tell us what you think.
That’s everything for now. If you’ve made it this far, thank you very much for taking the time to read this and share your thoughts 😊.
Cheers!

2024.05.19 21:03 Mulch_the_IT_noob AWP with 1.7x leverage - global stocks+factor tilt+bonds+managed futures

Was trying to find an efficient way to use leverage to stack equities, bonds, and managed futures, while getting a strong factor tilt in. Here are three theoretical portfolios:
  1. 1.7x leverage (93% stocks + 50% ITTs + 30% MF)
    1. SCV = 45% = 20% AVUV + 15% AVDV + 10% AVEE
    2. Stacks = 55% = 30% RSST + 10% NTSI + 10% NTSE + 5% TMF (50% "ITT exposure")
  2. 1.9x leverage (90% stocks + 75% ITTs + 25% MF) - simplified version of option 1
    1. SCV = 45% = 20% AVUV + 15% AVDV + 10% AVEE
    2. Stacks = 55% = 25% RSST + 20% VXUS + 10% TMF (75% "ITT exposure")
  3. 1.6x leverage (80% stocks + 40% ITT + 20% total bonds + 20% MF)
    1. SCV = 40% = 20% AVUV + 10% AVDV + 10% AVEE
    2. Stacks = 60% = 40% RSSB + 20% RSBT
TMF to ITT exposure estimation: TLT's duration is 16.76 years, so TMF's interest rate sensitivity is similar to that of a 50 year duration. NTSX/I/E have duration of 6.68 years & RSSB 6.48 years, so overall, 1% TMF = 7.5% intermediate term treasuries for volatility purposes - not exactly how it works, but this is just to calculate leverage versus RSSB, NTSX/I/E, and BND.
I had originally settled on 50% SCV + 50% RSSB, but giving up some equities for managed futures seems to make sense given their low correlation.
Backtest Changes/Limitations:
Backtesting Options 1 & 3 seems to show that:
Separately backtesting Options 1 & 2 let's us go slightly further back, to find Option 1 has slightly higher returns, but slightly worse risk adjusted returns. This is probably just noise and could easily flip either way depending on time periods and whatever randomness the future holds.
Adding Gold reduces max drawdown, but reduces CAGR. Similar Sharpe and Sortino to Options 1 & 2.
Would love to hear this community's thoughts on these portfolios.

2024.05.19 20:36 Rayof808 reply to a previous post -- BLSP status

Our weekly email updates have addressed all the issues regarding the Blue Sphere timeline, but for those who are not on our weekly email-update list, here is a rundown of the status of our Blue Sphere efforts and our overall mission...
It should also be noted that the "bears" on Stocktwits have made it their obsession to try to discredit our efforts, even though we have been successful thus far in placing BLSP into SEC-rule violation with our Transfer Project success and have been successful in our efforts to get BLSP trading in the U.S., something they constantly said could never be done.
One must truly wonder why they have had engaged in a non-stop battle to try to dissuade BLSPers from continuing their efforts.
The Blue Sphere case in Delaware concerns the Creditor's attempt to have the judgment for a previously-settled award enforced against a co-defendant, Leonite, who allegedly orchestrated the corporate fraud along with Blue Sphere management (specifically Shlomi Palas). The case is in its final stages, with the key deposition delayed until around August. Once this deposition is entered into court records, the case is likely to be decided within a couple of weeks thereafter.
The key to the Delaware case has been in the evidence uncovered during discovery, something that only happened because the Defendants refused to settle with the Plaintiff, which enabled the Plaintiff to pursue the case and eventually unearth damning evidence that corporate fraud had taken place. It is this newly-released email evidence that prompted the North Carolina case, which alleges all the Federal crimes that have taken place.
The Delaware case is the key to the North Carolina case. Everything that has been released in discovery has automatically been introduced into the North Carolina case. As a result of the mountain of already-submitted evidence, the North Carolina case will not have a lengthy discovery process, which often can take 1-2 years. This time-period has already been absorbed in the Delaware case, which began in 2022.
The Delaware case is a Creditor case, but the evidence in discovery opened up a new can of worms for Blue Sphere and Leonite, and the Plaintiff's charges have now risen to the point at which it has attracted the attention of the SEC and the DOJ.
Our Blue Sphere efforts have been broad and sweeping, but we have learned that the key to our primary objective requires the assistance of the SEC. As detailed in a recent email-update, the focus of our efforts is not to seek financial compensation but to have the courts appoint a receiver to manage the affairs of Sphere, claw back the embezzled funds, update the European revenues (over $10M in 2023) and consolidate them into their U.S. 10-K, and thereby regain compliance with the OTC Markets and SEC to return the stock to OTC for public trading. In addition, new management would allow the company to become the target or merge or takeover by another global IPP interested in acquiring these valuable European assets (valued at upwards of $100M according to court transcripts).
Once the North Carolina case begins (upon conclusion of the Delaware case), we expect the SEC to ramp up their investigation into the new charges alleged. As detailed in a previous email-update, the North Carolina Department of Justice filed a case on our behalf with the SEC, and the SEC acknowledged the receipt of the case in an email to a couple of BLSP investors. In addition, it was reported that the FBI has also been involved by contacting larger shareholders for more information regarding the allegations.
According to our court-reporter in North Carolina, the case is being handled by the same judge that ruled against Blue Sphere in an earlier related case, so the timeline for the North Carolina case will likely be streamlined. But of greater importance is the day the SEC publicly confirms their investigation, which they will only do when they are ready to employ their lawyers to take over on or behalf. Once this happens, then the future is a foregone conclusion.
So we are in a very good position as we watch the wheels of justice grind away. According to the reporter, the case will begin to generate possible media attention once the more serious allegations are entered into the North Carolina court case. This will be the first big step towards our long-term goal of exposing the fraud and taking our company back.
Were it not for the Delaware court case, BLSP shareholders would be in the same position as other small-cap companies that are getting away with investor fraud. The SEC simply does not have the resources to go after all these companies, so companies like ALYI, PLYZ, HMBL and hundreds of others will continue to succeed in stealing investor money with impunity. The level of their deceit does not rise to whatthe SEC requires for their efforts to be expended.
The evidence unveiled in the Delaware case, on the other hand, does place BLSP on the SEC radar screen, especially after the North Carolina Secretary of State (DOJ) filed the complaint on our behalf. The SEC now is aware of the embezzlement claim, which places our case far above any of the other small-cap stock claims.
So when people on Stocktwits try to demean the success we have made in the past 2 years by stating that "nothing will ever happen," they are simply denying where we stand at this time.
And those who say that the case "has not begun" and "will take years to resolve" do not understand that the Delaware case has placed the North Carolina case on a fast-track to resolution.
According to the reporter, the usual time-length of a court case is 2-5 years, but given the Delaware evidence that has already been entered into the North Carolina case, we have already passed 2 years and will likely see the trial case rapidly progress in 2024 and be resolved in 2025.
However, this is not our primary objective. The North Carolina court case seeks treble damages for the civil fraud, but this will activate the criminal case by the SEC, which then begins our mission for a court-appointed receiver to take over the company and restore the company's good name. This will mark the first step toward returning Blue Sphere to its rightful place as a publicly-traded and highly success waste-to-energy company.
Those who listen to the "bears" on Stocktwits are listening to ignorant comments by a few who begrudge our successful efforts and refuse to admit that we have made progress that no other small-cap shareholder bloc has ever accomplished.
To receive the weekly email-updates and stay abreast of the latest news developments, email me. Our email-group consists of 800 BLSP shareholders with a collective holding of over 2.1 Billion shares.

2024.05.19 20:35 maxikaz19 Is it illegal to use Mexc in the USA?

Using the MEXC cryptocurrency exchange in the USA falls into a gray area of legal interpretation. MEXC itself has explicitly stated in its terms of service that it does not allow U.S. residents to use its platform. This is due to regulatory uncertainties and strict financial laws imposed by the U.S. government, particularly by agencies like the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
The SEC and CFTC have stringent requirements for cryptocurrency exchanges operating within the U.S., including registration and compliance with various federal securities and commodities laws. These regulations are designed to protect investors and ensure market integrity. Exchanges that fail to meet these requirements risk facing significant penalties, including fines and possible bans from operating within the country.
Despite these restrictions, some U.S. residents attempt to access MEXC using VPNs to mask their location. While technically feasible, this practice is risky. If MEXC detects that a user is from the U.S., they may freeze the user's account and funds, leading to potential financial losses. Furthermore, using a VPN to circumvent regional restrictions can be considered a violation of the exchange's terms of service, which could lead to legal consequences.
For U.S. residents, it is generally safer to use cryptocurrency exchanges that are compliant with U.S. regulations, such as Coinbase, Kraken, or Gemini. These exchanges have undergone rigorous scrutiny and have measures in place to protect users' interests.

2024.05.19 20:33 VolatilityLoverr Help me understand how forex works

Hello there, I have a few questions regarding forex. Keep in mind that I mainly trade futures,
1.I see that plenty of forex brokers are non-regulated, which is kinda weird, why are people sending their funds to such firms? What regulated brokers do you recommend?
2.When it comes to futures like NQ, I know that 1 point=20$ per contract, I'm able to see the volume, I know how many contracts I can take without too much slippage, how liquid is for example EUUSD?, can you enter with 300-400k$ in a 1m timeframe without breaking level2?
  1. Returns. As you can see I don't really understand Forex, I see it as a simple Currency exchange, are the returns simply tied to the difference between the entry and exit price , or it's more like futures and 1 pip( I believe that's how you measure the move) is tied to a specific amount of money that doesn't reflect in the actual move. Hope you got the idea
Many thanks

2024.05.19 20:30 Wild_Cellist9861 Gamers Break Away [GBA]

My fellow gamers, for too long has our community suffered the indignation of an intolerable culture that has denigrated, besmirched, exploited, and has outright demonized our culture of unique individuals with a genuine love of a hobby that they see as profitable and progressive. They have taken beloved IP’s (Intellectual Properties) and twisted them into their own personal ideological crusade of undermining and humiliating the core aspects of characters they deemed as “Toxic” or “White Supremacy”. Through the guise and protection of DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity) & ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) they have used our influence in the entertainment industry to push their narratives and agendas that have stigmatized our culture with numerous anti-consumer practices that they call “being progressive”. But the truth of the matter is they were never really looking to be a part of our community, they simply wanted to use our community as a tool of activism and propaganda in the entertainment industry as it was extremely profitable, and they wanted inclusion in that division. Ever since GamerGate & Female Frequency, we have had to endure the incursion of forced ideologies, xenophobic behaviors and inferior overpriced products that have never been in our best interest and have been flat out disgraceful towards foreign media.
Before Gaming had become a major source of entertainment, we were often categorized as anti-social or societies rejects where because we found more enjoyment in playing fictional characters and not spending as much time out and about, we never fully assimilated in society (which is a good thing if you ask me). From 1998 to 2007, at the height of innovation, creativity and production, Gaming had reached a golden age in which it had revolutionized society. Hollywood Execs who had ruined the movie industry turned their attention to video games as a source of income since video games had outperformed movies in terms of profit. No one was concerned about gaming, much less diversity or inclusivity until it became profitable. This makes people like SBI look extremely disingenuous as they were not interested in gamers as a community with its own culture. They simply wanted to use it as another weapon in identity politics.
Microtransactions; the hidden enemy to gamer progress and inducer to mental laziness of our community. Microtransactions have been around for a long time; however, it has never been more potent and apparent than in recent years. It has aided in the dismantling and segregation of players on the ideology of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and has created another sub-culture of gamers who have no real drive to be better outside of how much money they put into the game. This has degraded our culture as well as we have become “fat” off transactional gaming but at the same time we have been “starved” of purposeful gaming where our achievements were our sustenance. I am not saying that microtransactions are bad, but when they are exploitative and predatorial like they have been and don’t give gamers room to grow, we become lethargic and unwilling to improve ourselves as gamers. Oversaturated microtransactional games are one of the many reasons why we have become complacent and unwilling to fight against the exploitative tactics used by big brand game companies such EA, Ubisoft, ActivisionBlizzard, NaughtyDog and so many other western business model companies. Western style games were not like this in the past, they had much more depth and actual effort put into them with the gamer in mind. This has not been the case for over a decade and our connection to western developers has been whittled down to just being transactional. That is one of the reasons why you see so many remasters and remakes in today’s gamer community. They have lost their willingness to improve as developers of games and simply accept corporate/share holder rules.
Game journalists also do not have any real integrity or purpose outside of being funded for their involvement in promoting IPG (Identity Political Games) in a positive light to the public whether it’s positively received or not. They are not interested in what we have to say, they all support the same agenda and that is why they are a dying breed. Within the next couple of years, they will be out of the job and more than likely they will not be able to stay in the industry giving how they have responded to past articles that have clearly been scripted on the premise of diversity and racism. Not only that, but most of them are also extremely hostile to the community as they stereotype and defame the individuals that are a part of the community they are supposed to serve. We have been mentally liberated from their lies and coercive tactics as we tend to laugh at their obvious attempt at virtue signaling while hiding their misdoings so that they can play the victim.
My gamer brothers & sisters, I would not suggest the following action that we must take now without good cause. I have weighed our options and the best option for us now is this…...CULTURAL SECESSION. Naturally this is a form of segregation where they would more than likely claim they are being segregated by the dominant culture of the gaming community but that is incorrect. For years now we have been the ones who are often marginalized and ostracized for the smaller portion of our community. And when we aren’t, we’re exploited for more funds so that these companies can stay in business only to subject us to low quality products that coincide with the “WOKE Agenda” that are often huge expenses to these big brands i.e. AAA/AAAA games that will eventually flop for its obvious forced diversity and bug infested product which will undoubtedly piss off the consumer to the point of wanting a refund. Losing copious amounts of capital and stock in the process, not to mention their reputation is permanently marred.
We must separate on every cultural level in terms of entertainment and ideology. We must reject everything from the west that promotes toxic western beliefs, practices, and exclusion from other cultures (i.e. Southeastern Countries such as Japan and Korea). Japan & Korea have been the targets of unjust discrimination from Western Developers, Western Journalists, Western Localizers (The Wokelizers) and Western Society Prejudice regarding their sense of aesthetics as Westerners hate the aesthetic sense of these countries. The reason why they resort to such base tactics isn’t just because it weaponizes the ideal female form but it’s also because they have deep-seated insecurities about their own looks so when they see attractive female characters, they use terms such as “unrealistic” or “hypersexualized” to establish the moral high ground. But the truth is, they want to feel superior to that which is ideal, so they insult and dehumanize this figure that portrays natural female beauty because they see it as an insult to their own social superiority in what they believe is a hierarchy of them being at the top of all other women. Because of this and so many contributing factors, their movies flop harder than the Fat Chocobo landing on a group of enemies and their games seismically fail just as much if not more. We must sever our connection to Western Developers, Publishers, and ALL Western-Centric Entertainment for they seek to mentally enslave us to their Xenophobic ideology.
Let’s define Western Culture and its traits. Western Culture/Society is composed of more than several different ideologies that work in unison with one another to facilitate dominance over multiple aspects of society. Business, Social, Political, Technological, and sometimes even Global Affairs are affected by these ideologies that portray a specific mindset of Western beliefs. What are those ideologies you ask?

These traits are so nefarious and unconscionable that I have a hard time believing that anyone could harbor them. However, given the social, political, and economic climate that we are in, those in power who use their influence on controlling society most definitely possess these insidious traits. Everything that they do is all about control and since video games are the biggest market in the world, they want control over it and the communities built around it to accrue more wealth and to use that wealth to subjugate other cultures. Mainstream media is a tool as well as mainstream organizations and sites to help accomplish this goal.
The government recently announced its intentions towards what they believe is “GamerGate 2.0” and now even the ADL has made an official appearance, referring to gamers as “extremist’s”. We know EXACTLY what they are doing, and they aren’t even trying to hide it anymore because they don’t think we are aware of their motives. This is just a pretext for them to exert even more control and we know why, it’s because they want the influence we as a community have to must serve them. So here is what we do my fellow gamers-
“In light of recent events and years of mainstream stigma, we the members of the Global Gaming Community [GGC] must officially renounce ALL TIES to the corporate western video game market. We have been financially exploited through predatorial monetization schemes, pelted with numerous articles of disdain and intentional misrepresentation from game journalists, news outlets regarding us as dangerous individuals and, even subjected to inferior products not only riddled with bugs but also products meant to push political agendas. For the preservation of our community and its unique culture, apart from a few select game development studios we officially sever all connections to western owned video game companies & their mainstream affiliates. From this point onward, we will no longer support western corporate developers, journalists and publishers that do not coincide with the goals of our community.”
Naturally this is completely optional. If you are okay with the state of the gaming community as it is, feel free to ignore this. But if you wish for real change and a break away from oversaturated monetization in the games you play and the push for radical ideological reform, then you are in the right place. Lets sever these rotted miasmic ties once and for all so that our community can be preserved and made better for future gamers. If you agree with this, share it with whoever you think might be interested. The more gamers who get involved, the easier it will be for us to finally break free from mainstream game companies and their associates.

FAQ

I live in Cuba/Canada/Haiti/USA, why are you posting on a Saturday?!
Because I'm writing this from Europe in the future where it's already Sunday. Timezones be crazy.
Why are there a bunch of non-board games in the board game list?
Because the Tabletop games category on Kickstarter includes anything remotely related to board games and sometimes things slip through my filters.
Why is this future award winning board game and literal saviour of humanity missing from your list?
Sometimes my filters get a bit overzealous and discard actually valid projects. If you feel something is missing for this reason, leave a comment and I'll add it (maybe).
Can I donate all my money to you?
No
Can you help me promote my game?
Please no. I make lists. Nothing more.
Your list is full of errors and now the great old ones have awaken!
Indeed, this fine piece of code runs purely on faith, trust and pixie dust, so anything can happen. Leave a comment and I'll see what I can do.
