2024.05.20 07:30 toomanythoughts__ the magic of kpop

before i start please dont drop condescending comments because i know people love to deviate to that with conversations like this.
that being said! is anyone starting to feel like kpop is losing its magic a little? i never thought kpop was sunshine and rainbows i was aware of the negative sides to it but i always felt like there was authenticity there in whatever regard. idk it might be because of all the recent controversies happening but kpop is really starting to lose some appeal to me. the music is still good i think but its not really as fun as it used to be. i feel like now i always think about whats going on behind the scenes i also just think maybe i was more native about what kind of industry kpop was.
recently ive been thinking about bts and how much i do actually miss them and how i feel there is gap in the industry where they were and i was wondering why and i think it was the authenticity maybe? as in authenticity with them as artists. other groups are making great music they have the talent they can perform there are groups that seem close with each other and have bonds but i guess what i miss is the authenticity bts seemed to have especially towards music and their crafts. again thats not to say that other groups dont have that but now it seems to be over shadowed by sales numbers the amount of album versions and the concepts. and then add on all the controversies and it just all feels a bit eh...with bts for example idk i felt a genuineness in what theyre doing and the work they would put out maybe because they were heavily involved in it even in the beginning (the rapline specifically) ..i think now companies are more interested in having an idol thats like a star and is marketable rather than fostering an environment where idols can be creative? idek what it is exactly i wish i could pin point it like maybe it was all their raw content where they were very open about their struggles as artists and as people were as now i feel like idols want to maintain this image of being perfect (not that i blame them with the way kpop fans and the gp react sometimes but still).
maybe there was a side of me that was a bit naive to kpop and all that and now its more of a reality check too im not really sure
idk if any of this makes sense and again i want to emphasis that i know there are still groups out there that are doing the things i listed but i guess im not sure why im not feeling the same about it. do yall think it is all the mess thats going on? how are yall feeling about it these days? what do yall think makes kpop special or what is it missing?

2024.05.20 04:40 S8NOG Pink Floyd Hodgepodge

Pink Floyd Hodgepodge
I believe that if you did not have a momentary lapse of only ever listening to Pink Floyd, your music taste may not have developed to its fullest potential. They cover nearly all of “it” and the world of music is better because of this. Let me know your favorite Pink Floyd album! But it can’t be the homosexual triangle please.
Pressing Info:
More (1969): 1973 Press US Harvest 5th issue with label rim text beginning at 8 o'clock Winchester pressing, indicated by the —◁ in the vinyl runouts. B2 is misspelled "Ibizar Bar" on the label.
Ummagumma (1969): 1st press US, look at the cool pink sticker man!
Atom Heart Mother (1970): 1979-1980 Capitol Records Pressing Plant, Jacksonville pressing.
Pink Floyd Live at St Tropez Bootleg (1970): Decent show, A1 AHM, A2 Embryo, B1 Green is the Colour (my favorite Pink Floyd song), B2 Be Careful with that Axe Eugene, B3, Set the Controls For the Heart of the Sun.
Zabriskie Point (1970): iykyk
Madcap Laughs (1970): 4th UK Press
Meddle (1971): 1980's reissue, Capitol label with rainbow rim
Obscured by Clouds (1972): 1972 press. Don’t know much about this guy. Wots the Deal?
DSOTM (1973): This is a Swedish 3rd Press. yellow-green Harvest labels, code: ncb The letters "ncb" is located on the label of Swedish origin and means "Nordic Copyright Bureau."
WYWH (1975): Probably 1st or 2nd press 1975 US press.
The Wall (1979): First US issue 1979. This release does not list the members of Pink Floyd as part of the credits on the inside gatefold cover. It only says "Words and Music - Roger Waters. Produced by David Gilmour Bob Ezrin Roger Waters."
TLDR: Roger Waters is a megalomaniac who never shepherded the heart of Pink Floyd effectively. Syd and David forever.

2024.05.20 00:31 RobertCulpsGlasses My GnR Journey

Nobody asked, but…
I was in 9th grade in 1988, and one of the cool kids exposed me to Appetite. At the time I was more into Janet Jackson and George Michael, so this was a bit of a shift for me. And I was instantly hooked.
I had been familiar with Welcome To The Jungle from the movie Dead Pool, but getting an entire album worth of this absolutely raw music changed me (for the better I think!) All of the other “long hair bands” being played on the radio didn’t seem genuine, they were too glossy, GnR was the real deal.
I had the tape on pretty much constant repeat for years, along with Lies, both of which were perfect. I got my first taste of new music with the soundtrack for Days Of Thunder, and at that point I decided the band could do no wrong. I had a tape copy of Live Like A Suicide, and an “unauthorized” t-shirt with the rapey-robot cover, you name it.
Then came T2… holy shit YCMB was EXACTLY what I wanted to hear! And so I counted the days until the Use Your Illusion release. I bought both on a midnight release at my local Rainbow Records. I was actually short a few bucks, but the guy working there paid the difference out of his own pocket, and I paid him back a few days later (thank you Glen!)
So I got these two albums home and dove in. In simple terms… most of it didn’t click for me. There were definitely a few good tracks, but a lot of it was “meh”. But I did my best to convince myself that I loved it, and much like Appetite, it was on endless repeat on my Walkman.
It took me years to admit to myself that overall I just didn’t like these two albums. The fast songs couldn’t touch anything on Appetite, and I found myself really only listening to the slower tracks, and just thinking of it as a different band.
Part of the problem was (some of) the piano. It works on November Rain, and some other tracks, but it’s all over the place. Like Civil War is such a great song until the last minute or so when the piano comes in out of nowhere and changes the whole tone. The other issue for me was that it sounded like Axl just doing his best Axl impression.
“Hey, people loved that long last line on SCOM, why don’t you end damn near every song on this album like that”
“Do the Mr. Brownstone voice!!”
“Do that ‘aye-eee-aye’ thing a bunch!”
Etc…
Anyway, time marched on, Appetite was still perfection, Lies was still great, and I never listened to Illusion. I was working at a record store in 1993 when Spaghetti was released. Despite my (yet unacknowledged) thoughts on UYI, I bought Spaghetti the day it was released. I liked some of the covers, others I found disappointing or unnecessary. It was fine. It actually ended up getting pulled from the store I worked at because the GM thought covering a Manson song was insensitive. 🙄
Years went by, my musical tastes expanded significantly, but I would still call Appetite a perfect record. I was working at Best Buy in 2008 when Chinese Democracy was announced. The amount of hype for that record made no sense to me. “The most anticipated release of all time”. We sure about that? The amount of work and merchandising that went into that release was insane. I worked the midnight release, we saw maybe 3 customers come in. I got myself a copy. Listened to it a few times, and moved on.
What’s the point of all this? Well there really isn’t one. I’m glad Axl followed his muse, even if I didn’t like the direction. Appetite is still the best album of its kind. And it’s great to see that there’s a vibrant community out there!
Let the downvotes begin!

2024.05.20 00:26 0-64-72_woobbley I kinda feel lost

I think I just need a place to rant about my life that isnt my family, I dont really have anyone in person to talk with and I dont really want to bother anyone.
I guess I should start at the beginning, when I was in elementary school my family and I were broke af, like more than I realized at the time. I knew that we didn't have much money and that my dad didn't want to tell me what our actual financial situation was, but I knew it wasn't good. looking in from outside it seemed like I had it all, and it still does...
I should mention, my dad was working full time, with overnight but it didn't pay well enough to sustain a family of 4. he had to quit due to health reasons, the job was literally killing off their employees (that's not an exaggeration), from my current understanding and from what I remember, they had to take these biological shots (I don't know why) and people stopped showing up to work over time. according to the info I got back then, they all died due to some reason like "heart attack" or "organ failure". It was in accordance with the gov and whatnot. So it's either leave or die, my dad's health was declining hard because of this. He had to take up learning health and related things on his own, he's alive and well now.
At the beginning of 7th grade, I somehow got the newest iPhone at the time, the iPhone 7Plus, I was super excited because that was my first smartphone, I kept it all the way till 2020, I still love that phone and the memories that I made with it. Anyway, it was the coolest thing at the time, it wasn't till later that I found out that it was my uncle that paid for it. Life seemed... fine, I was having fun. Nearing the end of 7th grade we had to sell the house, we rented another one close to my school at the time so that I could finish elementary school there.
Everything seemed great till the end of 8th grade, we couldn't stay there anymore since (I believe) we were behind on rent. So we had to move out, luckily enough we have some relatives that we could fall back on but they were a few town/cities over (~230kms), I was trying to do my best to stay positive, in all honesty I don't know if it worked.
Some time after we settled in, we managed to find a stable source of income but there's no paper trail. (we didn't think it was at the time). Now we have the financial freedom to buy whatever and to whatever (within reason obviously)
  1. "Friends"
After leaving my home town, I only stayed in contact with a couple of friends till a couple years ago (2022). one of my childhood friend's who I thought as a "best friend" couldn't be more wrong, he said he didn't want to be friends anymore, which was weird because we went through thick and thin together, we did everything together, you could've mistake us for brothers. He ghosted me for a whole month, I called up a mutual friend to ask about him and put us in a 3-way call, that's when he said "I don't think we should be friends anymore". That's when I truly realized that I was alone, although I did make some "friends" in high school. I know that I'll never have anything as close to that friendship ever again, there isn't some 2nd chance to get a childhood friend.
I went to high school in the new city with my cousin, that was my only saving grace. We were pretty close and still are. At the very least I met a couple people that have become good friends even after graduation.
I remember clear as day, 2 of my close "best friends" in 8th grade promised each other that we would get manual cars as our first cars, so far from that I scraped from social media and what I last heard about them, I'm the only one that went through with it. Not that a promise meant much to me, it never had.
Actually if you're reading this, what does a promise mean to you? I know doctors are not allowed to promise anything, so that tells me it's supposed to be impactful. I guess I have a life full of broken promises.
  1. Relationships
After grad in elementary school I got into my first relationship thanks to my school's "bully" (he wasn't really targeting anyone, just picks on everyone (except in his friend group)) at least he knows and acknowledges it according to his instagram/snapchat story (years later).
One day in 8th grade, he just straight up tells this girl that I like her while walking past a doorway (which I didn't, I was interested in another girl but we had went our separate ways already) I was right behind him... after graduation, it gets a bit blurry but we got into a relationship because I didn't have the heart to say no (this haunts me later on), she broke up with me because of "long distance" but a short couple years later she told me that it was all a facade, she just wanted to know what it was like to be in a relationship, not that she had any interest in me. I- am still conflicted about it.
In freshman year of high school, I got asked out by a guy who was a year older, we were in the same club, I didn't have the heart to say no so I was in that for less than half a month, I still don't know how to feel about it.
Not too long after I asked a girl out (also a year older) and they said yes! Confidence boost +1. they wanted to identified as non-binary. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows though, the longer I was in that relationship, the more I learned about this person, the sooner I wanted to give up, disappear, they weren't the right one, they were nice but had some issues that I wasn't ready to deal with at the time. they kept talking about their ex, being abusive and such. after leaving that relationship I heard something that they said about that was similar to what they said about their ex, so what they said about their ex was a possible lie as well. good thing I left when I did.
  1. Life
We are pretty well off now, still living with aforementioned relatives.
I got my first car halfway through grade 11, I wouldn't ask for any other car, its the manual version of my mom's car, she got that car when I was born so there is quite a bit of sentimental value to it even though I had just got it.
For this next part I swear I'm not trying to flex or anything, around 2021 I bought the newest macbook, ipad, iphone, etc. (my old ones either didn't work or didn't have) a fresh start.
but now I feel somewhat depressed, I don't think I have depression but at the same time I think I might. It's just lonely, Covid19 did not help. Whenever I think about it my heart aches, now I'm lost, I feel alone, I don't know what to do, I'm scared.
Somehow this is the only place I can turn to. The uncertainty of the future is truly scary.
I don't really say it in real life but, I'm sorry, for it being this long, for taking up space. I don't think anyone is actually going to read all this, but if you did, thank you, and I'm sorry for wasting your time.

2024.05.19 23:34 NNeeccttaarriinnee [F4M] Romance between an alien felinoid and a human man. [Anthro, size difference, muscular female/andromorph, role reversal, story driven, sci-fi, multi-para]

My normal posts are 2-5 paragraphs. This is long because it's a starter.
+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+
The sloping ground around the Kiaurk family mesa had been sculpted into shelves or terraces, and it was on one of those upper terraces that Kiaurk Nshurr now lounged beneath a pergola anchored to the striated stone face behind her. The mesa rose at her back: an enormous, looming, almost sheer outcrop that her family's dwellings had been carved into the face of. Wide, shallow steps cut into the artificial (but entirely convincing) sandstone wound their way up between landings and porticos leading inward, between tiny balconies shaded by bright solid-colored canopies, between rooms with flat walls and rounded corners that came jutting out to shadow the steps below. Rriigkhans rarely used glass as window barriers; smooth-edged holes had been cut through the rock in varying shapes and sizes. It could be difficult to tell which apertures were windows and which were entryways. A physical barrier that kept out the elements was obsolete in all but the crudest dwellings, though some of these larger holes were curtained with braided string or strips of cloth that served a purely decorative purpose.
From her high vantage point Nshurr could see the shelves stretching out below her as the base of the mesa leveled out to flattish terrain that was a wonderland of vegetation in muted rainbow colors: mustard yellows, clay reds, earthy browns and the occasional dash of sage or dusty blue. This scrubland lay like a blanket around everything below that was not part of the village between the mesas. Down there, adobe compounds never taller than two or three storeys seemed so squat compared to the mesas that Nshurr could see towering in the distance, many of those family mesas only a few hours walk from her own if she traveled by foot. The village sprawled, with tile parkways winding in serpentine fashion between the various buildings, courtyards, parks, and ponds. There were no property lines, no clear division of the land into neat little plots owned by the individuals who lived and worked in these places. It all seemed to be part of a whole, with a single unifying aesthetic. The village housed those rriigkhans of the lower castes, the kharratah and chelhautah, and the humans which were a caste all their own, haukagh-ar, except for a small number who lived with their masters in the caverns of the mesas or up on the plateau.
This planet, Sgarrl, terraformed over three hundred years ago, was home to more human servants than any other Ssaarian world – aside from Earth, of course, discovered eighty years ago. The fact that humans shared so much in common with rriigkhans made them the perfect species to incorporate into the rriigkhan caste structure as servants. They breathed the same mix of gases and required similar gravities, and their nimble little fingers were very useful for all sorts of work.
The rriigkhan language was not necessarily too complex for humans, but it was wholly unfamiliar – too many phonemes that did not fit comfortably in human mouths, from grunts to huffs, to rolling trills that might by voiced or not, sometimes rumbling out like a purr. To a human, Nshurr's name was a sigh and a trill, and yet she was accustomed to humans vocalizing her name in their heavy, slurring way: Na-Shuurr! Nasher! Sometimes simply: ɽ͡r! which she recognized more easily as her name, or at least part of it, and not some random sounds.
Still, despite the weird pidgin humans had made of her language and their English, she liked the little creatures. She had come to live with her Grandmother on Sgarrl only days ago, and had never encountered them before. The males only stood as tall as her collar. The females were shorter still, much like the males of her own species.
To human eyes Nshurr was felinoid, with a muscular swimmer's body and the broad muzzle of a big cat, with watchful, forward-facing predator's eyes that seemed unexpectedly expressive, because rriikghans had almost as many muscles around their eyes as humans did around their mouths to convey the nuances of emotion. Despite being larger than even many Earth men, she was considered sleek by rriigkhan standards. She made up for that with her broader crest.
The rriigkhan crest was something like the crest of Utahceratops – a keratinized plate growing up out of the skull, except divided into three lobes instead of two, with scalloped edges along the outer rim. Unlike depictions of Utahceratops, the rriigkhan crest was not covered by skin. At least, not on the top. Thick ropy veins squiggled under velvet fur on the underside, closer to the neck. (A thick, arching neck muscular enough to support the weight of that crest meant that Rriigkhans walked with a stoop that made them seem hunchbacked, to humans.) The surface of the plate on top was often rough, even bumpy or corrugated like deer antlers in some areas, smooth in others. Every female crest had four tines jutting from the front – a pair several inches above the eyes, and another pair further up. Directly above the lowest set of tines were twin holes, the howrf channels, just big enough for a human to insert a finger. These holes were very much like nostrils – much deeper, but damp inside, and lined with short, fine hairs to protect the sensitive mucous membrane from debris. The organs housed within these channels were the heart of rriigkhan culture, the foundation of all relationships, of sex.
Male rriigkhans, of course, had only their neotonous crests: diminutive, mostly smooth with rounded edges, without tines or howrf channels. Cute.
Nshurr's crest was wider than average, her upper tines spaced further apart, and combined with a compact face this made her look top-heavy. (A human might say that she was more snow leopard than lion.) Most female crests did not interfere with the movement of the ears – highly mobile, highly expressive paddle shaped things – but the edges of Nshurr's crest did jut out enough to almost shield them.
That her crest was weighty, that it was inconvenient, that she was often aware of it – this was Nshurr's pride. Her long tail curled in pleasure when she caught males looking at it. Humans seemed to be intimidated by it sometimes, as if she might decide to gore them with her “horns.” She considered herself a confident person; not a braggart, but self-assured, and to carry her jhekaah so visibly pleased her to no end.
Her fur was an almost peachy off-white, but a mask of pale peach shaded each seafoam green eye. The mask blended into the white further up her forehead until fur gave way to bone-tan crest, and was split between her eyes by the white of her nose. Oblong spots in that same peachy color, each blending from dark to light, streaked down her sides.
These weren't the natural colors of her distant ancestors. It was unheard of to see a rriigkhan who was not gene-modified in some way, even if those modded genes had been part of rriigkhan life for so long that no one thought of them as mods any longer. She also thought nothing of the subtitles her augmented reality implant displayed whenever a human spoke, AI translated to help her decipher the pidgin. AR was simply a part of her, had been since she was a kit.
Reclining as she was on a padded lounger in front of an iron brazier, full of cold ashes from last night's fire, Nshurr was dressed in a pale coral shift only a few shades darker than the peach of her fur. Medallions trailing fringes of cloth had been sewn onto the front bottom half of the knee-length garment. A row of those ornate medallions defined a plunging neckline that bared much of her chest, muscular and broad, possibly even masculine to a human. Her breasts were lower on her body and similar in appearance to a mare's udders: long nipples on a pudge of fat nestled close together on the pelvis, just above the place where her thighs joined her body. They were only small lumps beneath the shift when Nshurr stretched out her legs so that the thin fabric fell across them. It was the roundness of her hips and buttocks that marked her female to the human eye. (As if her crest didn't make that obvious!)
She was listening to the sound of two younger female cousins wrestling on a nearby terrace, and although from her vantage point Nshurr could not see them, she could imagine the scene from what she heard: Fherou and Lahk growling while they grappled with their arms, the crack of crest hitting crest and then the scrape of tine sliding against tine. Each was fighting to control the other's head, each trying to bite the other. It wasn't easy when each had a shaggy ruff to protect her neck, and any attempt to bite the other's face would be thwarted by an interposing crest. Rriigkhan hands were less dexterous than human hands, more pawlike with stubby fingers, but capable of delivering hard blows, and once or twice Nshurr heard a cousin snarl in response to a strike against her body.
The competitive pheromones her cousins exuded from their unextended howrfs, quite unconsciously, were beginning to make Nshurr's own heart beat faster. The end of her long tail, where it hung down from the reclining chair, lashed in agitation. She was beginning to imagine sinking her teeth into someone's skin herself, and if her cousins had not been so much younger and smaller than herself she might have gone down to their terrace to show them a thing or two. It was putting her off the human flute music she'd been listening to, fed directly into her own brain through her implant for her private enjoyment. (Certain aspects of human culture were very popular here on Sgarrl; she'd been curious about it.)
She did not feel like going inside to escape the pheromones; Nshurr craved the warmth of the sun on her fur, not the cool stone and artificial light of those warrens. Most of her male cousins had gone into the village for boating today. Well, perhaps she would go down and join them after all.

For this prompt I imagine you'd play a human servant, probably a new arrival to Sgarrl but maybe someone who was born there. Even though I've set up a situation where my character would have a lot of power and yours very little, I want to clarify that I'm not interested in abusing your character I am looking for a slow burn interspecies romance that develops naturally. This story may deal with power imbalances and even speciesism, but I'd like to explore those topics realistically.
I want to explore all aspects of loving relationship... Flirting, cuddling, kissing, lots of romantic scenes and character growth. My “type” that I'm most attracted to are men with average bodies in the 40-60 age range, with realistic personality flaws. I am more than willing to tailor my character's personality and physical attributes to suit your tastes, within reason. I appreciate partners willing to do the same.
I prefer to reply more than once a day. 2-3 replies per day would be ideal, but I understand life gets in the way. I usually write 2-5 paragraphs, or 150-450 words per post. This starter is much longer than my typical post length, but my lengths vary according to need. If I'm introducing a new character or setting a scene, my post might go up to 1,000 words.
Please send a writing sample if you have none in your post history. No need to custom write anything for me, old samples are fine. Click here to PM me!

2024.05.19 23:16 Low-Major3957 .•fallen••star••.

I am not strange, I am just sad and that makes me behave this way. I am nothing. I feel no love, only from myself. I feel very sad because I know who I am and what I could have done for many, and I feel wasted, unused, and that makes me ashamed. And I am so angry. I cannot be angry, I just let it be and so I will remain. Death pressed you onto the brand new smooth planks, my eyes spoke of simple lines, you knew me... time spent with 'Friday' is now an eternity, often unnecessarily frivolous for others, torn away from the other, such a time hand in hand before they died, as I write here, but the paper is twisted and unfortunately no longer of value to me, layers of black and gray... I wonder if someone will fall alone... so it's time to leave it all behind to truly discover the depths of love, life is still full of doubt, my devotion to the black light continues through the colors of the sky... you know you rejected the other half. Once you know you have betrayed a smile wrongly, more... multiple colors are the rainbow flower hues. It doesn't feel like the whole day has passed until you are there. Four different shades, but only one is blue. We remember so many days, but I forget how many... maybe my answer is because it was the end of my life, and therefore I believe it. I often heard that I should postpone this to what they call tomorrow, and I always assumed that tomorrow is what they tell me today, and sometimes it is. I certainly don't think it's good to always shame you... roaring blue snowflakes, no snow now... you know what? At least pain is real love. I heard from a friend that it is no longer the case. I don't know.... why? .... the lie could not survive, it would make me lonelier, quieter, and that was not what I wanted in the first place, as I explain in my book and how I protect the future, "look me in the eyes and cry, ...." …. but now I think very differently. I have to be honest with my own respect, admit and show that I have offered my soul to suffer pain and always be, but resting on the idea that you are happy. "Rose flower" from me to you, from me. Not just red here. Pink red. Rose flower not one, once there are two. Were pink-red red roses, roses blush pink her red roses. Another, two, three times four desires became. Her cheeks only once, twice his. Pain knew me more, no one for my sorrow. No one knows, hasn't chosen to be like me either. "rose" .... was mine. She doesn't go away. I am Heartwarming - Starlight. Beginning is the heart at the end of the light, the Starlight. Everywhere with us. We now only have a conscience for him. Thanks to you, and yes, we are all lovers. I am the most loving single player, and nothing else is free. She is us as he I was and silence, and the only reason I go. Ended with a small kiss to each other... It hurts me, she looks so happy at this moment. On a hill random lady, who is she? A lady is in my life, told her that before she died, the memories are member- Recognition of the ability, the skill or capabilities of a player. That's how we loved life. Does this change anything about our relationship, and what is it? The world has since been a place of death. Can I leave? As you say it was the last, a list that shows players... and not much more than that. Honestly the possibility of a team song. They don't play their own game, works perfectly together. Meanwhile as opposite days. Sorry as I am entertained to be us, I don't think so either, a woman. She is really beautiful. Trust her with us, and 'Yesterday wasn't so far from saying goodbye to Friday-as' she doesn't know, is that because that was. I am the way she knows men, because she is forever to me. We are still together and the best partners eternal friends, always. Is it too early in the morning... to say it's not easy to sleep, let her feel, then I notice her smile and her family, all her calls repeating heartbeats. She has slept, while I still leave my bed with a blanket underneath. I just refuse to believe, we are still here, not the only one, which means: friends. She knows how much I care about her, love is in my name, with the same respect for the heart-wrenching story. The evening ends light while I mourn. I believe leaving my own fate will make me happier, all the sadness is worth it... and telling myself at the end: I loved her soul, I love her voice in my heartbeat -line of a song. I am her, maybe the only thing I heartwarmingly want. A little child my (Star) more than anything in these 7 Stars. Light•starts to shine•Star. •.Light•. I have to be honest with myself and my friends, I have no idea how I would do this without them knowing... As I said to my family before, silence to forget. And I keep it with me, I can leave, and you know I'm not even here... sorry is embarrassing but you are not alone here. You were here before me, and now I tell myself, I am leaving. I want her back, but she doesn't let me within death. But she doesn't come back? The only way to find her, as she is now in my arms... Oh... and if you knew how much she was in my heart for me, worship me against all odds, I will be eternal. And now that question: Who are we to believe I will never get it? If red answer light inside, aside I am all alone... dead.

2024.05.19 22:29 Petragor07 The 13th Predator (Skaven crossover) - Part 10 FINALE

Memory transcription subject: Captain Sovlin, Federation Fleet Command
Date: [REDACTED]
The force assembled at the outskirts of the Skaven home system was larger than any I had ever seen. It was a rainbow of ships, each decorated with different colors and symbols communicating their allegiances. I kept one eye on the Glorious display of interspecies cooperation as I looked to my first officer.
“Wow Recel.” I said with mirth. “Just… Wow! I know I asked you to bring reinforcements, but did you really have to drag along half the federation?”
Recel didn’t respond right away. He looked past me, out into the infinite void and scratched his head, seemingly deep in thought. But then, he snapped out of it and turned his gaze to me with a proud expression. “It just seemed like the right thing to do sir.”
I couldn’t help but agree. This battle would surely go down in history as one of the federation’s greatest victories, accomplished through the cooperation of the herd. “Indeed.” I simply replied before transmitting to the Fleet. “All hands, Full speed ahead!”
Thrusters lit up across the formation as we advanced, the Skaven homeworld coming into view. The bridge crew was tense, but I didn’t share their worry. As far as I was concerned the battle was already won, superweapon or otherwise.
A beep from the sensor station notified us that the Skaven ships had come within range of our scanners. As images of the predator vessels were distributed across the fleet, there was a collective sigh of relief. They were much fewer in number this time, only a handful of freighters and a few dozen fighters. The Flagship was at the head of the formation, but crucially, the bell on top was still broken. Clearly, Kalsim’s sacrifice had not been in vain.
With this new information in mind, I addressed the fleet once more. “Looks like this will be easier than we thought. Maintain dispersed formation, I don’t want any surprises.”
“Captain!” The crewmate Manning the sensor station spoke up. “We’ve got more detailed scans of the Predator fleet. The flagship… it’s absolutely packed with life-forms! Same goes for the freighters.”
An evacuation effort? Then why were they headed right for us? They couldn’t possibly get past this many guns. “Ready weapons, I want them shot down as soon as they’re in range. Don’t let them get away.”
However, just before we reached effective weapons range, an alarm rang out. Recel checked his pad and read out a report. “Predator sighting in the Engineering deck! We’re under attack!”
“What?!!” I exclaimed. The Fleet’s communication channels became flooded with chatter, similar reports coming in from across the formation. A hunch began forming in my mind. “Sensors! Give me an update on those lifesigns!”
The crewmate squinted at his screen. “They’re… gone! The ships are empty!”
“Teleportation.” I deduced. “So that’s their gambit.” I drew my pistol from its holster, prompting the rest of the bridge crew to do the same. “All hands! Prepare to repel boarders!”

Time-Date: The Grand-Great Deception
My squad took cover at the edges of the hallway, and we raised our rifles and flamethrowers at the Bulkhead in front of us. The poor engineers on the other side had managed to seal them just before being overwhelmed by the predators, giving us time to set up a defense at the natural choke point. This in turn would allow the command crew to fortify the bridge even further, but I naturally hoped that we would be able to repel them here.
Not long after we had taken positions, a green jet of energy appeared in the bulkhead’s side, beginning to cut a rectangular opening through the thick metal. We aimed at the center of the nearly completed portal, but suddenly the cutting stopped just short of completion. What were they-
BWOOSH
A fiery explosion tore open the bulkhead, destroying the neatly carved lines and causing the edges of the barrier to bend out, like a metallic flower. Despite the protection our cover and fireproof suits afforded us, the explosion rattled us, and we simply cowered behind our defenses for several seconds.
I was the first to cautiously peek out at the smoking remains of the boundary. A predator in red armor staggered through the opening, seemingly as shell-shocked as we were. I remembered my training and brought my rifle to bear. With plenty of time to aim, I fired a burst of plasma through the damned thing’s head, killing it instantly.
This galvanized the other predators, and a barrage of thin streaks of lightning rushed out at us from beyond the Bulkhead. We returned fire, but with the dense smoke we couldn’t tell whether we were inflicting casualties. As the blind firefight continued with no casualties on our side, I thought we’d be capable of holding them here until reinforcements arrived. But it wasn’t long before something besides energy blasts began to rush through the opening.
A wave of gangly predators rushed through the breach. Their scurrying quadrupedal run kept them mostly below the continued fusillade, but some were inevitably scorched dead when the shot reached too low, or a predator head too high. Our flamethrowers were ready for them however, and quickly spat a torrent of fire in their path. The front rank of creatures tried to stop at the last second, but the momentum of those behind them was too great, and they were either trampled underfoot or pushed directly into the inferno.
The charge was fully incinerated, yet a few of the burning predators continued their charge by sheer momentum alone, crossing the short distance between themselves and the flamethrower team, and plowing into them in their frenzied death throes.
More elite predators moved up in the wake of the devastated assault, brutes in red armor firing their lightning guns at us. The firefight quickly grew much more intense, both exterminators and Skaven killing each other at a rapid pace.
A group of creatures in black rags rushed out from behind their armored fellows, tossing primitive throwing weapons at us as they went. One of them struck me in the arm, piercing through my suit and leaving a small cut. Unbothered by the glancing hit, I raised my rifle to return fire, but suddenly found that I couldn’t feel my limb, nor pull the trigger.
As the strange numbness spread, I lost my balance, falling to the floor in a limp heap. I watched helplessly as my comrades lost ground, and the rearmost part of our formation turned and ran. The savage beasts hollered with bloodlust, giving chase.
As they disappeared around a corner, a new group of predators emerged from the broken bulkhead. One of their ‘Grey Seers’, accompanied by a multitude of servants. They looked more like cargo wagons than living beings, each hunchbacked from the weight of the numerous packs and crates they carried.
Their leader looked around at the walls before pointing one out, and another predator carrying a multitude of tools went up to it and unscrewed one of the panels covering it. Discarding the panel, it pulled up a strange green drill, and began digging through the thick layers of armor, quickly carving out a cavity in the side of the hull.
As it climbed in and continued drilling, the other predators followed suit. To my horror, I and several of my dead squadmates were picked up and brought along, dragged into the newly created space. Still paralyzed, I could only despair as they picked up the metal panel, sealing the tunnel behind us.

The Extermination fleet breathed a sigh of relief as their ships managed to repel their boarders one by one. With the assault repelled, they moved into orbit of their target and unleashed their countless weapons upon the planet, bringing the End Times to the Old World.
After the annihilation was confirmed, the vessels of the fleet separated, each charting a course back to their native systems. They returned as heroes, massive celebrations held on every planet in the federations to glorify the monumental victory. And while the people celebrated in the streets, the Shadow Caste began work on their latest propaganda campaign, intending to convince future generations that the ‘Skaven’ had never existed.
As the military vessels were abandoned by their reveling crews, hunchbacked shapes emerged not long thereafter. Creeping out of cargo bays and maintenance hatches, they would briefly sniff the air to ensure the coast was clear, before scurrying off into the wilderness. There they dug holes, at first only cautiously. But it wasn’t long before they began to expand, tunneling beneath the very cities they had avoided.
They did not stop there. Camouflaged rafts were constructed, populating the abandoned oceans with dozens of ramshackle, barely floating warrens. Some snuck aboard Arxur raiding vessels when they arrived, in order to settle the planets said vessels returned to. The particularly bold began to kidnap small numbers of surface dwellers, using them as slaves, food, or the test subjects for grotesque experiments.
When they finally amassed the resources, massive antennae were erected, laced with green crystal and hidden underground, powerful enough to penetrate the crust of their respective planets. With these, encoded signals could be sent between the infested planets. Some messages were declarations of cunning, might, or other forms of superiority. Some were threats, wishing death and destruction upon rivals several lightyears away. But most were devoted to coordinating various plots, with one plot in particular standing far above the rest.
The Galactic Vermintide, to gnaw at the entire galaxy until it belonged only to the Skaven.

2024.05.19 21:44 OpinionatedIMO Appointment with the Broker’

“Don’t assume my life has always been lollipops and rainbows, young man. Like most people, I’ve had my share of problems and difficulties. I have experienced frustrations, money troubles, issues with finding and keeping a romantic relationship, health scares, etc. I’m like everyone else in that regard. It may seem as if I don’t have a care in the world, but it hasn’t always been that way for me. The sweet ‘gumdrops’ of life came much later. My pivotal moment came when I met ‘the broker’. That changed everything. After my appointment with him, all my troubles melted away. I negotiated an amazing deal on that fateful day.”
“The ‘broker’?”; his captive audience-of-one, stammered.
The young man was perplexed and intrigued by the odd segue. It held the promise of offering an interesting story and fulfillment of the developing narrative. The curious lad prodded the conversation along by dutifully asking for an explanation of the curious term. Without further interruption or delay, the senior gentleman picked back up in his unveiling story of contentment.
Their unspoken understanding was confirmed. With his appropriate response, the question facilitated the means for the story to move forward. It was the equivalent of two people playing ‘catch’. The back and forth ‘give-and-take’ had been handled judiciously, and with nuance.
“Many, many years ago I had a similar conversation with an older gentleman who was about the same age that I am, now. He didn’t seem to carry the weight of hardship on his shoulders and I was fascinated by his enviable sense of calm. I was about your age; and I suspect, had similar troubles to those you have. After appealing to him for his secret, he told me about ‘the broker’. it’s about time I passed that torch to you. It’s selfish of me to keep such knowledge to myself.”
The young man smiled. He sensed an entertaining reveal around the corner.
“There’s an enchanted, magical being of unknown origin; collectively known as ‘the broker’. At least that’s what I was told, years ago.”
The old man had a twinkle in his eyes as he spoon-fed the strange details to his curious protege.
“The broker’ collects personal dreams, the same way others might desire to own a classic car, or rare coins. He is drawn to interesting and unique experiences. I can’t begin to explain to you why he collects such odd things. Regardless, you’ll only have one opportunity to meet him. If he is intrigued by your entry, he will offer you a deal for the rights to ‘own’ it. Heed my advice. Be fully prepared when that happens and don’t squander away your only chance. Wait to summon him when you have an exceptional item to offer, and know exactly what you want in return for it.”
The young man could hardly believe his ears. It seemed like an intricate setup to trick a gullible rube, but the older gentleman appeared to be dead serious about the surreal details he’d divulged so far. Despite suspecting it was a masterful joke at his expense, he dared to ask follow-up questions.
“How do I summon this ‘broker of interesting dreams’, when the right time arises? I don’t remember my dreams very often, nor are many of them exceptional in any measurable way. Of the few I do remember, most of those are sinister nightmares. If I do experience something that is vivid, positive, and highly interesting, I want to be ready to share it with the dream broker.”
“That’s both wise and very prudent, young man. I feel like you grasp the gravity of my advice, but you’ve taken the parameters too literally. It doesn’t have to be an actual dreamscape you experienced while asleep. It can also be about your hopes and aspirations for the future, you see? The only thing worse than not having a valuable item to barter with in the deal; is having the perfect one to present, but not having an audience with him. That’s a missed opportunity of a lifetime, for certain.”
The young man nodded in agreement. He was highly pleased and proud his personal advisor recognized his understanding of the seriousness of the matter. He waited as patiently as he could for the answer.
“When your time arives, you’ll know. It will soon become crystal clear. There will be no doubt you’ve secured the ultimate deal. Don’t waste time by asking for silly, impractical things like ‘eternal life’ or ‘vast riches beyond compare’. A dream broker isn’t the almighty, of a magical genie. His powers to grant you wishes aren’t limitless, and his pocketbook isn’t bottomless. If he is intrigued by the dream you share, he’ll initially offer you a pittance for it. He’s a shrewd businessman who has negotiated countless deals. Resist the urge to accept any ‘lowball’ offers. Be ready with reasonable expectations, and stand firm on your demands. Good luck young man. May you broker an amazing deal which brings you a lifetime of well-being and happiness.”
The old man winked and turned to walk away.
“But wait Sir! You didn’t tell me how to contact the broker of dreams, when I’m ready to strike my deal.”
He turned back around to face the curious youth. “Oh, you are ready! I already know what you desire, young man. I can see it in your humble eyes. I’ve heard the same requests a million times from others but that doesn’t detract from its validity or precious value. All reasonable dreams for the future are basically the same, and a delight for me to fulfill. You see, when I had my own special meeting, I asked to become a broker of dreams, myself. Happiness, and good health is a wise choice, my boy. I’ve already granted them for you.”

2024.05.19 21:29 OpinionatedIMO Appointment with the Broker’

2024.05.19 19:53 knuckanoos Name choice help!

My husband and I are trying to figure out names for our rainbow baby due in November. We had some names picked out from our last pregnancy (ended in a late term loss) that I thought I was set on, but now I’m second guessing some things.
Our last name is short and two syllables, beginning with L.
For a girl I was pretty set on Claire Virginia (Virginia is my husbands deceased mothers name, so non negotiable for that) but I’m not sure about the flow.
For boys we are at a bit of a loss. My family name is lost with my generation as my father was the only boy who had girls. So I was tempted to use my maiden name of “Floyd” as a middle name if we are to have a boy. I was really set on Zachary first time around (now all I can think about is saved by the bell haha) but I’m also partial to Cohen, Collin, Henry, Quentin and my husband really likes Beckett.
My family is very abrasive with their opinion delivery and I would rather get an impartial opinion or suggestions. TIA!

f(x) - Rude Love
Secret - Love Is Move
miss A - Love Song
Girl's Day - Thirsty
9Muses - News

Total Song Count: 50 main rate songs (& 6 bonus songs)

Explanations for song changes/inclusions/exclusions:
  • The rankings-within-a-group,❤️s/👍s, and Top 7s were all converted into points and tallied up to create overall point scores for every song in the survey.
  • The Top 16 songs with the highest point scores were all put into the rate, as well as Dilemma and Love Is Move.
  • For T-ARA, because Love Dovey, Like The First Time, and Sexy Love all received a ton of votes, I decided to give T-ARA another spot so that all three of these songs could make it. I decided to make Lovey Dovey the bonus as it's the only song of the 3 to be previously rated on popheads, and so I think making Sexy Love and Like The First Time the two main rate songs will provide more new/unique data.
  • For f(x), I have decided to keep Nu ABO and Hot Summer (which received very high scores) and to cut Pinnochio (Danger). It received notably less points in the voting compared to Nu ABO and Hot Summer, and I felt like we already had the essential f(x) songs in the rate, so this way we could make more room for songs from other groups [also, since f(x) doesn't have that many singles to begin with, we're still rating ~75% of f(x)'s entire singles discography, so we're not really excluding many of them to begin with]
  • Secret received by far the most amount of votes in the "Which group do you want to see get more songs?" question, and Madonna, I'm In Love and Poison all received high point totals, so I have decided to increase allocations from 1 song to 3 main rate songs, plus Love Is Move as a bonus song as basically my payola pick.
  • For SISTAR, only Shake It performed well in scoring/voting and the other three songs performed poorly, so I have decided to only put Shake It in the rate and I have cut SISTAR's bonus spot, since people don't seem to feel strongly about the other SISTAR songs.
  • For miss A, Touch performed very well in scoring/voting, but the other two songs performed poorly, so I only put Touch into the rate and have also cut a miss A spot to give spots to songs from other groups [Also, miss A had only eight singles, which I learned just earlier today, so allocating only 4 main spots for miss A feels more proportionate/right]
  • For Girl's Day, I'll Be Yours performed very well in the voting. On the other hand, Twinkle Twinkle and Don't Forget Me were actually the 15th and 16th highest scoring songs, respectively, meaning they were on the very borderline of being included in the main rate (and there is a big gap between 14th and 15th/16th), so they were the group I spent the most amount of time deliberating on. In the end, while I personally don't feel too strongly about either song, I decided to be nice and increase the size of the rate by allocating both of them into the rate, since it'll be very unlikely we get a chance to rate either song in the future. Also, you could say this is to avenge the fact that no Girl's Day songs were put onto popheads's K-Pop Gen 2 Girl Groups Rate
  • For 9Muses, since Ticket and News both did fairly well in voting, I decided to give 9Muses another spot and put Ticket into the main rate and News into bonus.
  • For Apink, the majority said they wanted less Apink songs in the rate, so I have listened! I have cut an Apink spot from the main rate, as well as cutting Apink's bonus spot (since all the Apink songs except Dilemma did very poorly in scoring/voting). Dilemma was by far the #1 pick for the Apink song, and thinking long-term, this way I can (hopefully) make more space for other songs in the 2022 in K-Pop rate (whenever we get around to that).
  • I did want to include more of the B-sides in the rate (as I think they'd be interesting wildcards), but all of the B-sides had the lowest scores/votes, so I had to scrap all of the B-sides in the voting section.
  • For the songs in the voting section that didn't make it in, the reasoning behind excluding them is primarily "they didn't receive enough points/votes in the survey". If you have any inquiries on any specific songs, though, feel free to comment down below!
The rate is planned to start on Tuesday, May 21st. We will be taking the weekend to prepare for it, but in the meantime, we are going to share the playlists for the rate in case any of y'all want to start on it early:
That's all for now! Feel free to comment your thoughts on the songlist below, and if you have any questions/inquiries, feel free to ask!

2024.05.19 17:42 UberEpicZach Dragon Development Diary #4: Hatching and Cradling

Dragon Development Diary #4: Hatching and Cradling
Hey Everyone! Uber here again with the fourth of our Dragon Development Diaries!
We now know the Dragons' Vision, the Anatomy of a Dragons Portrait, and even all of what makes a dragon unique in type and personality. Today, we are going to dive into everything about Hatching, cradling, egg laying and 'Dragon Blood'. I'll be joined by one of our scripters, Typical.
Heyo, I’m Typical, one of the Advanced Scripters on the team. You may remember me as the guy who created the Faegon Invasions and or as a general onion fanatic on the main server - as Uber mentioned, we are going to go over hatching and more, which is a lot of what I had worked on for this update, so without further ado, let’s get to it.

Bringing them back and Dragon Lore

For nearly a hundred years, as seen in the main series of books and our current bookmarks, dragons have been believed to be extinct. All that remains are dragon bones, eggs, and numerous written accounts. From the eyes of your average ruler, you must read over these accounts and use your best judgment. To bring dragons back, one must undergo the dangerous ritual known as the Hatching Ceremony.
The Hatching Ceremony is a new activity in development. Through the choices the character makes and the pursuit of luck, you might hatch a dragon. This activity is very much based upon the attempts of numerous Targaryens in our histories, specifically, the rumours surrounding the Tragedy at Summerhall and our interpretations of that event in our Nine-Penny Kings Bookmark.
To start your adventure into Hatching, you must select an egg and than choose where you want to hatch the dragon egg. (Note all following images are WIP; and art is underway progress)
https://preview.redd.it/rk4czf9cfe1d1.png?width=943&format=png&auto=webp&s=015ec8f4b33e3ab6f484ccb08cf884497d0f7272

But even before doing that, I would recommend gaining as much dragon lore as possible, or else you shall meet the same fate Aegon the Unlikely did. To learn Dragon lore, you must explore places with significant dragon history, learn about the history of the place, and gain a broader picture of what a dragon really is. You may plan ahead and travel to some of these sites as part of a grander trip, twisting your travel plans to go out and hit these Points of Interest.

Hatching Preparations

Once you've chosen the egg you want to hatch, you face the most challenging part of the Hatching Ceremony: selecting the proper method. There are two main types of the Hatching Ceremony: Knowledge Hatching and Esoteric Hatching. As the names suggest, Knowledge Hatching involves using willing maesters and other wise men to hatch the dragon through ‘Maester facts’ and logic. In contrast, Esoteric Hatching relies on a character's belief in faith, using both ritual and help from the faithful to bring the dragon to life.

Next, you need to select who will be participating with you; options are the following:
  • Close Family
  • Close Family and Kingsguard (King and Ruling Family only)
  • Extended Family
After that is the second most important choice, selecting a method in which you are going to hatch the egg. Options are follows:
  • Wooden Pyre
  • Sacrifice

Soon after your choice, the ceremony will commence,

The Ceremony

When the ceremony starts, you can either continue or fold and end the ritual. This choice remains available until the very moment of hatching. You never know if you have unleashed dragons anew in the next moment, or uh….. It's a complicated risk overall.
https://preview.redd.it/zqa09kzhge1d1.png?width=820&format=png&auto=webp&s=978cecdbf7a93d3793ab130d80ff8994591ac168
In the next event, you'll be given several options for hatching the egg. While the chance of success is random, it's weighted by your actions and attributes. For instance, someone with extensive dragon lore and Valyrian blood will have a higher chance of success than an onion farmer with no dragon lore or Valyrian blood.

Should you Succeed, the newborn dragon shall be born, and the dragons shall return to this world; if you fail, the consequences will be dire for both you and all participants in a botched attempt unless that is if you wanted that. Yes you heard me right, the activity has 2 intents, suicide by hatching and hatching a dragon. The funny thing is that if you fail in your suicide and actually hatch a dragon, you will get a nice 2 levels of stress for that.

Or the Alternative….

The Hatching Ceremony is still possible to do once the dragon is back in the world of the living since not every egg will hatch a natural way, and there is also the fact that non-Valyrians will need to take part in this dangerous procedure to be able to cradle eggs in the future. On the subject of cradling eggs,

Cradling Eggs

Once dragons have returned to the world. In the chance you get an egg you will be able to hatch it naturally via the new cradling mechanic. Cradling and Hatching are similar in the sense that they can end up with a hatching dragon, but cradling is, first and foremost, a much safer and lengthy procedure. While you may hatch an egg via a Hatching Ceremony over the course of a month, hatching an egg via cradling might take years; As to Cradle an Egg to hatch, one needs first to build a bond with the egg.
To start cradling an egg, as with hatching an egg via ceremony, you must select the egg via character interaction. On that note, you can also gift an egg to one of your family members and tell them to start cradling an egg or give an egg to one of your courtiers and order them to start cradling, with the caveat that they need to have dragon blood. What is dragon blood? Don’t worry about it. I will explain it just past the cradling segment.
https://preview.redd.it/vrulxacdhe1d1.png?width=780&format=png&auto=webp&s=afdd08ab56565c583f81f39b632f422a8b3a77c5

After selecting one of the mentioned interactions, the whole process starts. After this, Players and Ruler AI can get a chance to increase their bond with an egg by selecting the new “Spend time with Egg” decision & random events. Non-ruler AI characters can increase their bond within the same range once at the beginning of each new year for performance reasons.

Every year, there is a growing chance that, based on your bond with the egg, it will hatch. There is also a chance that after 10 years of not hatching, the egg will end up being a dud, forcing you to hatch the egg via ceremony. That is basically all in regards to Cradling.
https://preview.redd.it/b5618qlyhe1d1.png?width=834&format=png&auto=webp&s=3b5a84a6fb5b010c90acdf94f10370a610f98d99

Dragon Blood

Dragon Blood is a mechanic that defines who can cradle an egg; By default, only Valyrian Cultures (High, Essosi, Westerosi Valyrian, Tolosi and Mantaryan - and derivatives) can cradle an egg. Houses such as House Targaryen, or any house that successfully becomes a dragon-riding house with the Hatching Ceremony - will be valid to Hatch, Tame and Cradle Dragons. Lastly, anyone with a blood connection up to three generations to someone with Dragon Blood is also considered valid. That is to say, be careful how you marry and grow your family, let alone sleep around; you wouldn’t want too many bastards running around 😉. This mechanic also has a set of game-rules to switch through.
https://preview.redd.it/xkblxvz2ie1d1.png?width=569&format=png&auto=webp&s=8114d7355e1e35b6e108df43a1b013a12649554f

Egg Laying

Your dragon can lay eggs, and every year, there is a random chance they will lay one or more eggs, with a slight preference for laying one egg over multiple ones. However, what's important is that dragons age differently and thus have different times when they are more or less fertile. Depending on their age, you might get more or fewer eggs. If your dragon lays multiple eggs, the amount is weighted randomly based on factors such as your bond with the dragon, whether they have a mate, traits, and age. There is also a significant chance (base 30%) that your dragon has left at least two eggs before their passing, in which case you will get the eggs they left behind.

my monster chard has had a good run (zone 10b)
This rainbow chard has been the most interesting and most successful plant I’ve grown in my small time of gardening!
I thought I totally killed it after an extra hot first summer, only for it to come back the following year (with a vengeance lol.) In its second year, it turned into what I’ve been calling a chard forest, bc the plants developed serious “trunks,” and it quickly took over 50% of my bed. (Stunting a few of my leeks growth bc no sun 😭)
While checking it out today, I saw what the 2nd image displays, which I’m pretty sure is the beginning of the end of the plant’s life cycle.
(Also for any other people living in the same zone/similar zones, chard could be your best friend if you want to low maintenance grow leafy greens that can be harvested all year.) 🥬

2024.05.18 23:29 PuzzledAd4865 My review of the entire 90s anime

I've just finished a full rewatch of the Viz dub including the movies and specials, having watched a mix of the OG English dub + some of the sub as a child, but never in order all the way through. Here is my review no one asked for:
Classic: Great intro to the characters, loved it when the plot was somewhat moving, and the relationship between the guardians was really well developed. I found the Jadeite/Nephrite arcs really dragged at points, however once the Rainbow Crystal arc rolled around things really get going. I wish we could have seen a bit more flirtation/romance between Mamoru and Usagi. The finale was simply stunning and emotional, bringing me to tears.
Favourite filler episode: "Love and Chased: Luna's Worst Day Ever"
Favourite plot episode: "The Shining Silver Crystal: The Moon Princess Appears"
Special mention: "Usagi's Eternal Wish: A Brand New Life"
Sailor Moon R: I quite enjoyed the Makai Tree arc, however as above I found it a bit of a missed opportunity with Mamoru/Usagi and romance. Once again, the beginning of the season was overall a bit rough. And Chibiusa... while her behaviour was understandable it wasn't enjoyable to watch. And the less said about the break-up arc the better. The Black Moon Clan were pretty cool though, and Chibiusa definitely improved as the season went on.
Favourite filler episode: "Venus Minako's Nurse Mayhem"
Favourite plot episode: "Saphir Dies: Wiseman's Trap"
Special mention: "Usagi's Crisis: The Tiara Stops Working"
Sailor Moon S: I mean what can I say that hasn't been said before? The peak of the series - from the first episode you feel the raised stakes and improved production values. The Outer Senshi steal every scene they're in, the pure heart crystals format adds an emotional character driven layer to even the monster of the week episodes. The Death-Busters make hilarious but compelling villains, and the Hotaru arc is utterly captivating. Chibiusa is also handled far better - her friendship with Hotaru is her at her best.
Best filler episode: "Coldhearted Uranus: Makoto in Danger"
Best plot episode: "The Shining Shooting Star: Saturn and the Messiah"
Special mention: "The Death of Uranus and Neptune: The Talismans Appear"
Sailor Moon SuperS: Now I heard everyone hates this one, and honestly it wasn't as bad as I expected. The animation and music are gorgeous, and the slice of life comedic episodes are mostly done really well. I also love the villains, especially Fish's Eye. However I do find the focus on Chibiusa grating at times (although still better than R!) and Pegasus/Helios... eh. The worst crime for me is no Outers - why?? I really felt their absence, and I think having Hotaru aroudn could have made Chibiusa stuff a bit more compelling. Overall I enjoyed this season for what it was, but it did drag at points.
Best filler episode: "Storm of Love: Minako's Grand Two-Timing Plan"
Best plot episode: "Dreams Forever: Fill the Heavens with Light"
Special mention: "Shadow of Evil: The Trio's Last Chance"
Sailor Moon Stars: Ok, so this one was back with a bang - the Outers are back, and the stakes are higher than ever. The Nehelenia arc in this season is pretty much peak Sailor moon. Then the Galaxia arc - I enjoyed the Starlights (well I mostly enjoyed Seiya) and it was interesting to add a different dynamic to the group. Sailor Aluminium Siren and Crow were two of my overall favs, and I liked that we were back to dramatic high stakes like in S. The end was beautiful, and I may have shed a tear.
Best filler episode: "A Night Alone Together: Usagi in Danger"
Best plot episode: "Usagi's Love: The Moonlight Illuminates the Galaxy"
Special mention: "Night of Destiny: The Sailor Guardians' Ordeals"
I loved all of the movies and specials - the R movie and Ami's First Love are the peak of the entire series animation wise for me.
My rankings of the seasons: 1. S 2. Stars 3. Classic 4. SuperS 5. R
My rankings of the movies: 1. R 2. S 3. SuperS
So those are my thoughts! Don't know what I'm going to do with myself now - read the manga or watch Crystal?! Would love to hear all of your thoughts on the series too :)

2024.05.18 22:10 Admirable-Collar8912 New Fan Review of "Strawberry Jam"!

Hey folks! A few months ago I asked the subreddit for some beginner songs to ease me into AnCo after first experiencing Peacebone as a newcomer, which seemed so absurd and too much for me. Well, after a few months, I can finally say I am an Animal Collective fan! Even when I was weirded out in the beginning by the overstimulating nature of it, I was always intrigued by the sound and wanted to hear more. So here are my thoughts on the first album I played through, Strawberry Jam! <3
Album: Strawberry Jam
  1. Peacebone: I have heard this song is about child nostalgia and memories, and this makes so much more sense now. This song was the beginning of my journey, and I absolutely love the abrupt screams and animal-like? roars throughout the song. The beginning going from absolute madness to an actual synth progression is actually so cool. While the lyrics still are not my favorite compared to other AnCo songs, I appreciate their childlike nature and fun vibe to them! MILDEW ON RICEEE! Also that ending with the peacebone is sick!
  1. Unsolved Mysteries: Now we’re getting to some of my favorites of all time! Unsolved Memories has some of the catchiest choruses and I love when Avey’s voice gets to those high notes! AND THOSE BUBBLE NOISES TOO THOSE ARE SO COOL! I just love how catchy and bouncy it is! The voices or grunting that pan from left to right are a nice touch too. This song I feel defines Strawberry Jam, with how moist and squishy (lol idk how to describe it) it sounds, like jam. I am not too sure what this song is about, as the line about Jack the Ripper confused me a bit, but I am guessing it is just a song about him? Maybe some of you can give me some insight. The ending is absolutely bonkers as well, I love when songs just go into pure madness at the end, the synths remind me a lot of Peacebone’s beginning.
  1. Chores: Again, such a catchy song, this album is absolutely catchy with the melodies, I am surprised it never became as big as Merriweather Post-Pavillion. I love the scratchy noises that keep popping up before Panda’s verses, and the thousand of “IF I IF I IF I’s” are so fun and upbeat. One of my favorite parts includes when it gets real slow by the half-mark, and then the drum beat starts coming in again. The fast to slow transition reminds me a lot of Daily Routine in MPP, one of my fav songs from that album that I will talk about later on. I love the harmonies (is that with Avey?) together, and they sound transcendental like you're awakening from slumber into a new life with those stellar drums. Fun lyrics!
  1. For Reverend Green: Oh man, what an experience. This truly shows Avey’s vocal ability, with those screams. I am not usually one who is into screamo music, but the contrast with so many weird sounds and effects make it worth it. It honestly sounds like he is saying “Forever and Green”, which sounds equally cool as well. I love the slicing knife effects, and the chorus is so so so catchy with his vocalizations. It sounds like “eh eH YEAH” which I love singing along in the car! One of my favorite lyrics is “Now I think it's alright to feel inhuman”, although I am not sure what it means, but it gives me a sense of security. When I first heard this song, I was instantly hooked, the catchy chorus paired with the sick screams captivated my ears and the ending with him repeating “For Reverend Green” is so satisfying to hear!
  1. Fireworks: The transition from For Reverend Green was so smooth! I love the vocalizations in the beginning, though, I feel like it is in the middle ground of not being weird enough and not being conventional sounding enough. That being said, the piano is very catchy, and the strange seagull? sounds are very fun! The part of “surly blood rivers” is very catchy, and I love singing along with it, it has such a fun vibe! The breakdown is very good as well after that part, but I feel it should have ended a little earlier and not repeating some verses, after that huge buildup of “surly blood rivers”. However, I can see the appeal and it is a very fun nostalgic sounding sound that sounds like I could play it during summer watching fireworks! It’s very lovely.
  1. Number 1: After reading some posts about this song, I feel like I might be in the weird minority here, but I absolutely ADORE THIS SONG. I love the dreamy reverbed synth arpeggio, Avey’s absolutely HAUNTING vocal effects here, Panda’s angelic vocalizations in the background, the alien-like PEWWW sound, and the spooky ghost-sounding effects in one ear. I am a big fan of MGMT, and the sound effects reminded me a lot of Alien Day’s (though more upbeat) and Astro Mancy. I am also a sucker for reverbed to heck vocals, which are present here. I love lo-fi lowkey-type psychedelic songs that sound off-putting, and this song checked all those boxes and exceeded them. The lyrics are so interesting as well, with the “Now son!”, which I am guessing it about a premise revolving around a father and his son, and the issues of growing up? I feel like I could be listening to this floating in space endlessly throughout the universe, which I love!
  1. Winter Wonderland: After #1, I appreciate another upbeat fun song! I could totally see myself jamming out to this during winter! The chorus is so CATCHY, with the “And if you don't believe in fantasy Then don't believe in fantasy Do you not believe in fantasy because it gets you down?”, that part is SO FUN!! I love the imagery of dancing on the lake, and rainbow ice, as I love when songs paint pictures and fantasy dreamscapes in a listener’s head, which is why I love Owl City so much with his dreamy songs. Overall, a short and candy-sweet song that makes you want to go on a sled and slide away!
  1. Cuckoo Cuckoo: One of the more serious sounding songs on the record, I appreciate the more literal and real aspect of the lyrics here. I read more into it, and apparently it is about a miscarriage, which is absolutely saddening. You can hear the pain and hurt in Avey’s voice, and his vocals with “Golden Days” sound so strong. This song definitely has my favorite lyrics, such as “And I can't hold what's in my hand Don't do any good to say this isn't what I planned” and “I said please stay You can see me, don't go away”, which made me extremely emotional. I was so touched by this song, and the contrast between the absolute madness of the “cuckoo cuckoo” and the somber piano, truly craft this song together into a masterpiece. The pain and emotion that permeates this song is substantial, and the production is stellar. Gives me the same feeling from Stride Rite, another song from their “Isn’t It Now?” album that I have not yet finished yet, beautiful regardless.
  1. Derek: A fun-sounding little closer that sounds like a child singing, with Panda’s sweet vocals. Again, the squishy noises throughout the song are a nice touch, adding to the vibe of Strawberry Jam. I am guessing this is a song about a dog dying, which is really sad. The drums that pop in through the middle bring you back to life, and I love the repetition of the verses Panda sings, and they again, are so catchy! I feel like Chores and Derek are sister songs, not only because of Panda, but because they both start off with some normal AnCo verses, then have a more upbeat revitalizing drum beat. Overall, not bad, and is a light closer to the album!
