In March, I traveled down to Georgetown Guyana to get a first-hand look at what’s going on down there.
My goal was to discover opportunities to invest in the world's fastest-growing economy.
If you haven't followed the Guyana growth story, you can read about it in my previous article "Black Gold: The Guyana Opportunity".
The trip was a massive success, and I have no doubt I'll be returning shortly. Here are a few things I learned from my time down there:

Lesson #1: The Growth Story in Guyana is Complicated

The process of developing a nation isn't pretty. Nobody wants to see how the sausage is made and in Guyana, they're up to their elbows in ground pork.
Everywhere I looked, I was reminded of the contradictions found in developing nations.
When you touchdown at their modern airport it feels as if you could be anywhere in the Western world.
The airport is filled with advertisements for upcoming business conferences
That feeling of being in the Western world stops when you walk out the airport door. The hot, wet tropical air hits your face and you know you're not in Kansas anymore. You're greeted with hundreds of drivers, and people pretending to be drivers – each one of them intent on giving YOU a ride.
The route into Georgetown from the airport is a two-lane road full of potholes and lined with shanties. It reminded me a bit of being in India in 2008. Lots of chaos mixed in with signs of "progress" everywhere. Every few miles there's a giant warehouse selling Chinese or American construction equipment.
Arriving in Georgetown is quite underwhelming. I'll admit, that it takes a strong imagination to picture this city as the next Dubai. There are piles of trash in the ditches, the hotels have razor wire on them, and it feels dangerous. I estimate that rundown buildings and shanties outnumber the new ones 10 to 1.
Yet the more I explored I couldn't help but get excited.
Construction is happening in every direction and there's a slight optimism in the air. Everyone knows this is Guyana's time and they're motivated to take advantage of it. After years of disappointment, there's a new energy of "we'll see" and that feels like progress.

Learning #2: The Money Has Been Made in Oil Exploration

I arrived in Georgetown believing supporting the oil industry was the biggest opportunity. After 5 days there, I can conclude I was wrong.
The oil and gas companies are way further along than I expected. They're pumping millions of barrels out of the earth and their supply chain is already dialed in.
We met with the CFO of ExxonMobil Guyana at a colonial hotel in downtown Georgetown. From what I gathered that evening, most of the money was made supporting the oil and gas industry between 2017 and 2020.
There’s money to be made in oil and gas, but I don't believe it’s the primary opportunity at this point.

Learning #3: Access to Capital is a Problem in Guyana

Development in Guyana is hindered by its conservative banking system. The local banks offer aggressive terms on loans with short payback windows. Many of the banks only accept real estate as collateral.
This puts Guyanese entrepreneurs in a bind. The fastest-growing companies in Guyana could be doubling or tripling each year. Instead, they are constrained by a lack of working capital.
Instead of reinvesting profits in their businesses, many of them are using their profits to buy real estate. This is the only way they can qualify for more working capital.
Providing financing is the biggest opportunity in Guyana. This is not unique to Guyana, as it's a problem across the developing world. While it's the largest opportunity, it's also the most complicated one to pursue.

Learning #4: Eco-tourism is Going to Boom in Guyana

Kaieteur Falls in Guyana is four times higher than Niagra Falls!
Guyana is a beautiful country with a massive untouched rainforest. Up till now, the lack of infrastructure has made it incredibly challenging to access it. Getting into the interior requires flights or taking boats up the river.
This is going to change. The President of Guyana is highly motivated to support the tourism industry. Before he was elected President, he was the Minister of Tourism. He's passionate about attracting visitors and supporting "eco-tourism" in Guyana is his pet project.
Pros:

• Unparalleled access to the Amazon rainforest.
• Kaieteur Falls, an incredible single-drop waterfall
• Only a 4.5-hour flight from Miami and 6 hours from Houston.
• The only English-speaking country in South America.
• Excellent food.
• Leadership is motivated to support foreign tourism.

Cons:

• Poor roads and general transportation. Access to the jungle often requires flights or boats.
• Georgetown is dangerous and not an appealing city for visitors.

The food in Georgetown was incredible.

Learning #5: Construction is the "No-Brainer" Opportunity

Rumor has it that Exxon alone is going to move 40K ex-pats to Guyana in the next 5 years. As it stands they currently don't have enough "luxury housing" to support them.
We met with numerous entrepreneurs who are building homes and developments in Guyana. This seems to be a no-brainer opportunity.

Learning #6: Billions Will Be Made Building Roads and Bridges.

The roads in Guyana are a mess and rivers snake through the entire country. They will be building new roads and bridges for the next decade and even that won’t be enough.
The "best" roads in the country currently are two-lane highways, and the main bridge shuts down for half the day to allow boats to go through.

Learning #7: The Price of Power is a Constraint

Cheap energy is key to unlocking the 2nd half of the Guyana growth story.
The current price of electricity in Guyana is higher than in other countries in the region. This makes manufacturing or any energy-intensive projects cost-prohibitive in Guyana.
Fortunately, there's a gas-to-energy power plant coming online in the next 24 months. That power plant will cut the price of electricity in half.
When the power plant comes online, manufacturing in Guyana will be competitive. Local businesses producing finished goods, food, and other energy-intensive products will thrive.
Conclusion:
When oil is discovered, money quickly follows. The more time I spent in Guyana the vision of the future became more clear. Many smart entrepreneurs and investors have bet the farm on Guyana and I understand why.
The train is moving in the right direction and it's only speeding up. There will be hiccups, but the path for Guyana to become a shining star in Latin America is there.

Need advice for a family vacation in Oct-Nov of this year. Flying out of CA.
Destination: prefer under 10 hrs ofTropical Vacation Suggestions for a Family of 4 in October-November total travel time, but willing to go as far as 20 hrs for bettecheaper destinations.
Duration: 10-20 days
Participants: My husband (40y.o.), daughter (4y.o.), mother (55y.o.) and I (34y.o.). 3 American passports and 1 Ukrainian (my mom) with current US tourist visa.
In this configuration we have vacationed 2x before:

1. 2022 3 weeks trip to FL panhandle in August. The weather was perfect with 1 day of rain. We stayed at 2 different airbnbs and visited a different beach every day. My daughter was 2 at the time, so it was perfect since at this age there is not much more she could do besides playing in the sand. It was low key and relaxing. My husband named it “boring” though. Cooking our own food/eating out was not an issue. I actually preferred it compare to our next adventure.
2. 2023 10 day cruise to Caribbeans. I generally didn’t like it because: 1. Didn’t like 4 ppl in a small cabin 2. On travel days there was almost nothing to do for my daughter 3. Way too much time spent in the boat’s restaurants waiting for mediocre food – there were only 2 restaurant options included in our tickets (others you had to pay extra for), service was incredibly slow (like at least 2 hrs for each meal – 6 hrs/day) unless you wanted to eat at the “café” (the 2nd option) which was incredibly crowded, noisy and smelly. “Free” food, but you pay with your time. This just killed it for me. As a subsequence – very limited times on the islands. Some of the islands we visited were amazing – St. Thomas, Antigua, St. Marteen; some, not so much – Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico. Bahamas was cancelled because of the weather. The highlight of the trip for my husband was snorkeling on some of those islands. I liked the variety, but the hassle of getting off the boat, finding a taxi, driving for 30 min to an hour to a good beach and hurrying back to the boat was just too much (one time we almost didn’t make it – the adrenaline of running to the boat while they are announcing our names is seared in my memory forever).

Budget: I don’t have a set budget, but I like the idea of vacationing longer at a cheaper place vs the opposite. I had an idea of renting an Airbnb for 1 month in FL (because you get a big discount if you rent the whole month), but the timing doesn’t work out.
Accommodations: I don’t care if its all-inclusive or not. I just don’t want to spend half my day in restaurants/waiting for food and if it is all inclusive, ideally I would like some variety. One time in the past I stayed at the adults only all-inclusive and the food was almost the same every day, but on the plus side, it took no time to get your food, so it was worth it to me. Out of all of us only I would partake in any alcohol beverages to a limited extend. So that’s not really a factor. I don’t mind airbnbs as its not a burden for me to take care of the food.
Things to do: my daughter, obviously, will still be very happy with just sand and beach, but it’s not too difficult to take her on different adventures now (like city tours, hikes etc.). All I care about is for everyone to forget I exist and leave me on a beach for 3 weeks (jk, but you get the idea). My husband is most difficult to satisfy – he gets bored on the beach pretty fast. He wants to have activities to occupy his time – like snorkeling, hiking, ziplining and everything else that’s offered.
Destination: I’ve looked at typical contenders: Mexico & Caribbeans and I am ok with both (except a little worried about consuming water in Mexico). If I go there, which place do you think best fits my criteria? Any specific recommendations?
Outside of that, I have gone on many reddit rabbit holes with destinations all around the world. Typically though, the threads I read were more focused (i.e. Zanzibar vs Seychelles). I have a hard time finding recommendations for a family friendly vacation that is not limited to a specific region. Am I being unreasonable? This is why no travel agent wants to work with me – they all want me to narrow down on a destination and dates etc. – at that point why get a travel agent if you are doing all the work yourself anyways? I am perfectly capable of clicking “book” myself.
Not interested in cruises or any man-made parks/entertainment (Disneyland etc) as a primary destination (ok if it occupies 1-2 days of the vacation). I do like the idea of a water park for my daughter (like the Atlantis in Bahamas). But she is too little for most slides.
I know I complain a lot and have high(er) standards. I just want to spend my money on things the crew and I are satisfied with. Hence, this post. This year I want to try to check all the boxes.

-haven’t tried yet Maverick Musk, Coconut (Walmart was sold out and I wasn’t happy), Alpine, Goat’s Milk, Cold Brew, Spearmint, Grapefruit, Gold Moss (Yes I know I put nothing in B and crated an S+. There is a huge difference for me between c and a tier.
-F tier 12. Black Hole (Was not a fan at all and I’ll just leave it at that).
-C tier 11 Moon Rock (Ok scent but wasn’t very overly impressed) 10 Area 51 (another strong scent but wasn’t a huge fan of the scent) 9. Mars Bar (Decent scent and smelt like cinnamon but that’s not my cup of tea) 8. Cool Aloe (Very strong scent, definitely smelt like Aloe but it was a very bitter scent. I can tell how some people like it but I personally wasn’t a fan)

HI guys I would like to share my story here as I got benefits from this group and want to do the same. 4 months ago in Dec of 2023 I got Covid and at the same time my anxiety levels were high due to various factors. Over the past 8 years I was somewhat constipated and sat in the potty for 20 mins at a time. I thought everybody did that never realized I was the "odd" one. When Covid hit me it hit me right on the Pelvic Floor and the Pudendal nerve which I figured out after 4 months of pain and agony. Added to that my anxiety levels were so high, I was peeing every 20 mins and I was peeing a lot. As usual I was tested for Urinary, bladder infection and put on Anti biotics. There was no bladder urinary infection. The culture came clean. Then I was told it was prostititis and was put on that medication for a month. Still no relief. Finally I took anxiety pill which instantly stopped the continuous peeing. 1 problem solved. The other problem which was the constant urge to pee or the pain in the Penis, Scrotum and rectum was constant. It was brutal. The only time I was free was when I slept. I did not get up once I slept.
Finally after 4 months plus using thes reddit group and talking to experts in other countries, I concluded that it has nothing to do with Urinary infection or Prostatitis. It was Pudendal Nerve entrapment coupled with a Pelvic floor weakness from the many years of constipation. Not all Physio therapists can help you. You need the Pelvic floor dysfunction expert with Pudendal nerve entrapment expert to treat you and that is giving relief. This is one area that is mis diagnosed and many Dr's don't even recognize Pelvic Floor dysfunction in men or Pudendal nerve neuralgia or entrapment problem. They always say its Prostititis due to a bacteria that cannot be cured form antibiotics. Meaning you are on your own. I'm feeling much better now after 4 months of this constant onslaught. The physical problem impacts you mentally too. Please note: For women it is a bit different compared to men when it comes to the treatment even though the problem could be the same. If you get tingling, burning, throbbing feeling or pain in your penis and scrotum and rectum on and off and your pubic area then you need to definitely check your Pudendal nerve as that is the one damn nerve that goes from s2, s3, s4 vertebra becoming pudendal nerve on both sides of your pelvis and connects all the 3 parts. If my experience and findings helps even 1 person in this world I'm happy as I don't want this suffering for the worst of my enemies. Good luck to all of you R

I've got a whole week off and just finished playing Sandlands, a delightful JRPG. However, i dotn want more open worlds after sandslands . Stellar Blade has been great and awesome. Last time i palyed cod mw3 2023 was warhammer 40k season but i fall off of it . Wuthering Waves seems like a boring wait given the dry spell in Genshin and Honkai Star Rail. Thankfully, Rogue Prince of Persia is on the horizon, perfect for quick gameplay sessions cause its roguelike and its gonna be be palyed like dead cells.
