What's the reputation/history of the place?
You know what I mean, LA has Skid Row, The Cecil Hotel, The Viper Room and all those muderes. Las Vegas has the Bunny Ranch. New Jersey has the gangs. Amsterdam has the Red Light District.
What does Cork have?

In one of his robberies Omar is shown dual wielding pistols. It makes sense for his character, but it really got me thinking. How practical is it really?
It's certainly not unprecedented. The most recent example that comes to mind is Jose Vigoa, who gained notoriety for a crime spree in which he robbed casinos and armored cars around Las Vegas from around 1999 to 2000 before he and his gang were apprehended, a few years before The Wire aired. In surveillance footage he was at times seen dual wielding pistols, and David Simon, being a crime reporter may well have heard of Vigoa. Even though Simon was based in Baltimore the case gained some national notoriety and may have drawn Simon's interest, helping to inspire some of Omar's antics.
It doesn't seem too strange for a criminal to do something like this, but apparently Vigoa was no ordinary criminal. What many reports omit is that he was a veteran of the Cuban special forces, and even went to train with the Russians (then Soviets) and fought with them in Afghanistan, at least according to him.
I don't know anything about the Cuban military (maybe someone here does), but I'm 99% certain neither the Russian nor Soviet military ever taught dual wielding any more than the US military, because it's wildly impractical. Or is it?
At this point I doubt Vigoa's service record can be proven because however true it might be I doubt either the Cuban or Russian government would be willing to disclose anything. But I guess I can't help but wonder whether what Vigoa was doing was in any way based on training or just bravado. Or whether even a highly trained individual might still like to play cowboy.
Omar, as well as the man he was based on, Donnie Andrews (along with several other stick up guys), was self taught, and didn't have much if anything in the way of training, from anyone else at least. The need for training is often stressed but it makes me wonder to what degree can one teach themselves, and what sorts of things one can get away with. Does training have all the answers or can one come to the same results on their own? And does one have to look beyond what they've learned at a certain point?
I know it's a bit weird to ask about this in the context of The Wire but the show has challenged much of our understanding, and this is just another aspect of it that made me think. I figured it might be of interest to other fans as well.

My name is Elouise and I am a student at University of Nevada - Las Vegas. I am currently a research assistant for a dissertation study at Fielding Graduate University conducted by Julia Catlin, Ph.D. Candidate in Clinical Psychology. The study is titled “Exploring the Effects of Secure Base Script Knowledge and Reflective Functioning on Rejection Sensitivity in Adults.” Basically, we are interested in studying attachment and relationships.

I do have an upward trend. I first got a D in gen chem 1 and then a b+ when i retook. Got C’s in ochem 1 and 2. Got a C+ when I first took bio 2 then a B when i retook it (low because of a participation grade i should have earned). Since then, i’ve earned an A in microbio, B+ in anatomy and physiology, A- in biochemistry, and an A in human physiology.
Leadership: Outreach coord, Treasurer, and VP for a pre health org. (over 3 diff semesters), officer for a religious organization on campus (1 semester)
Volunteer: maybe 150 hours. most notable: volunteering at assisted living facility and at the dental clinic where the dentist is writing me a letter. Probably 50 hours ish from the clinic and 20 from the assisted living facility. I also volunteer during an organization I started that teaches children about oral healthcare. 50 hours from there. Does the unofficial tutoring i talk about in the next section count as volunteering? if so like 50 hours from there. Some other volunteering i’ve done but nothing major, like 5 ish hours at per event/thing.
Shadowing: slightly over 100. Nothing special. Will try to raise a little bit in the next few upcoming weeks. Did some international shadowing (30-40 hours in europe last summer).
Extracurricular stuff: did unofficial tutoring for my peers in Microbio, Biochem, Anatomy, and Human Physiology. Officially do tutoring at school as a job where i tutor chem, bio, and microbio. The official tutoring has been only this semester and 10 hours a week. The unnoficial has been over several semesters. I want to say 50 hours unofficial (does this count as volunteer hours?) Some freelance stuff freshman and sophomore year but no other major work experience.
2 very strong letters of rec. one from dentist and one from microbio professor. one other not so strong letter of rec from biochem professor. have another letter from my boss where I tutor at school.
some random stuff: i can speak 2 languages besides english lol. I do really suffer from anxiety and test anxiety which is what i mainly attribute my low science gpa to. also i’m a junior. have not taken physics yet.

I received a call this morning from an unknown number and decided to answer it (I usually don't for unknown numbers). When I answered the phone, I was asked if I was the person whose name they had and I acknowledged that I was indeed the person they were seeking. They informed me that I had won a sweepstakes vacation prize from an Expo I attended in January. At this point I was pretty sure this wasn't a scam or anything. They asked if I would like to go to Las Vegas or Orlando for the vacation and said that the airfare and hotel for two people were covered. Next, she asked if I was, "Married, in a relationship, or single." I said that I was single and then she asked if I was in a relationship, but single for tax purposes and I again said that I am single. She then said that I couldn't win the vacation prize as it was intended for couples and that I could win a lesser prize.

I don't remember anything about the entry as it was months ago and I entered and filled out a lot of forms/questionaries for different vendors at the Expo. Is what they did illegal? I know I wouldn't have signed up for something with no chance of winning as I was single then, but maybe it was buried in the fine print somewhere. Bandaid Haze ix 3.0 (Piff) - Cuban Black Haze x A5/Thai [R] {These seeds originally came from a Spanish grower in the “A5 crew” out of Southern Holland. “A5” was short for their NL#5 x Haze A open Thai pollination project. These seeds were shared with legendary grower Bodhi, who found one male and used it to pollinate a cut of “Cuban Black Haze” that he had. The strain was referred to as “Piff” and the seeds were shared almost exclusively with Doc D. After running the seeds, Doc selected “Piff #7” and shared the cut back with Bodhi who further worked the line. The cut was a significantly better long flowering haze variety with a shorter flowering time than the Cuban Black Haze mother or A5 father. Bodhi then later referred to the strain as “Bandaid Haze” coining the term because he said “it heals all wounds” This genome has direct lineage to the New York Hazes (NYC Piff / Uptown Piff / Washington Heights Haze) of the 2000s without any of the paranoia/anxiety that came from many of the hazes from that era. Many world renowned breeders agree that most of the “New York Haze” and “New York City Piff” varieties are all just different cuts of the same strain, that most likely comes from an early selection of Neville Schoenmakers (NL#5 x Haze) which is often referred to as the “pinnacle of cannabis breeding” that has dominated cannabis scene from the 1980s in Holland to the present day.}

Bandaid Haze ix 3.0 (Piff) - Cuban Black Haze x A5/Thai [R] {These seeds originally came from a Spanish grower in the “A5 crew” out of Southern Holland. “A5” was short for their NL#5 x Haze A open Thai pollination project. These seeds were shared with legendary grower Bodhi, who found one male and used it to pollinate a cut of “Cuban Black Haze” that he had. The strain was referred to as “Piff” and the seeds were shared almost exclusively with Doc D. After running the seeds, Doc selected “Piff #7” and shared the cut back with Bodhi who further worked the line. The cut was a significantly better long flowering haze variety with a shorter flowering time than the Cuban Black Haze mother or A5 father. Bodhi then later referred to the strain as “Bandaid Haze” coining the term because he said “it heals all wounds” This genome has direct lineage to the New York Hazes (NYC Piff / Uptown Piff / Washington Heights Haze) of the 2000s without any of the paranoia/anxiety that came from many of the hazes from that era. Dear Carlos,
I find myself questioning the reality of what we had, triggering panic attacks and exhaustion. Some nights, I cry myself to sleep, and others, I wake up in tears. It feels like I'm losing no matter what I do. Sometimes, I even wonder if it would be easier not to wake up at all. I feel ashamed and weak for even considering giving up.
I often think about where we would be right now. Maybe we would have finished our show on Discord and started another, perhaps something on Disney Plus like Iron Fist. I would have excitedly told you about my plans to see you again, sharing that I had bought baseball tickets to see the Rangers and booked a nice hotel nearby to spend the night with you.
I imagine you would have finished your physical therapy sessions, feeling better and wrapping up your insurance claim. Maybe you added a new Dragon Ball decal to your new car to make up for the lost one. You might have mentioned another Las Vegas trip for the summer, and I would have started saving up to help you get a hotel with a jacuzzi this time.
I think I would have gotten a haircut and stopped tying my hair up so often. You probably would have started making plans to come over for my sister's graduation and stayed for my brother's birthday. I would have started dress shopping, looking for something figure-hugging to look good for you and take nice pictures, wanting to show off the progress of my workouts. I might have joked that I was a trophy wife.
I would have started looking for apartments for my sister, brother, and me, making sure they were close to the university. I would have been so excited that I was finally going to close the distance between us, that I was finally going to be able to see you and hold you as much as I missed you.
And in those moments, I would have felt so grateful for everything we were building together, for the future we were planning. But life doesn't always go as planned, and here I am… in another universe, maybe, just maybe, all of this was our reality.
I hope you're doing well, finding peace in your days, and taking care of yourself. I've been thinking about you, wondering how work is going and if your physical therapy sessions are helping you feel better. I hope the mental therapy is giving you some relief from the stress you've been under.
I imagine going to church has been a source of comfort and healing for you, especially after the turmoil of the past few months. Your family is often on my mind, especially your mom and grandma. They hold a special place in my heart because they were there for me when my own mom passed away. I'll never forget their kindness.
I've been praying for your grandma's health and for you to find happiness and success in your goals. And how are your kitties? I bet they're still up to their naughty but lovable antics. I miss them, just like I miss so many things about our time together.

I feel like I made a mistake by stopping therapy after my mom passed away. I thought I had healed, but I was just burying everything deep inside. I knew you had your own struggles, and I didn't want to add my mother's loss to that. In a way, I feel guilty for not dealing with my emotions then. So, I want to take my husband to Vegas next April for his birthday. I would prefer an MGM casino so I can book through the Marriott app. We do like to gamble, but aren’t big gamblers. We aren’t too into clubs but do enjoy a good bar. And want to be close to everything if possible just so we can get to other casinos, specifically Caesar’s Palace and Paris. Hotel room luxury and comfort is probably the priority. There are so many to choose from. Any help here? There are way too many and we both have never been to the strip. We live in NJ, so we’re obviously familiar with AC if that helps and prefer Borgata or Harrah’s there. Thanks in advance!
