2024.06.01 12:17 niemteltsuj Long term fasting isn't for everybody, and that's ok.

This may upset some people. In fact I can count on it.
I only wrote this for 1% of you. For the rest, please disregard it.
A Different Game:
I'm not sure if I can explain this. I don't think that I totally understand it myself, but that's ok.
Long term fasting isn't about food, but you already knew that or you wouldn't be attempting a long fast.
This may not pertain to everyone that does a long fast. Maybe it won't pertain to any of them.
You may not know who I am, or of my situation. That's ok. I'm just some guy in a sub-reddit.
For me the battle is more important than the weightloss. Fasting can tear you down right to the core. It can lay you open and expose vulnerabilities that you didn't know you had.
That can be a good thing if you are ready for it. When you've faced something that stripes you down, you only have two ways to go. You either stay broken or you rebuild a new you.
Fasting isn't a team sport. The rebuilding process is a solo journey. You will face family and friends that mean well. You will face people on reddit that have watched a few videos of someone that thinks they know about fasting.
The fact is that after your first long fast, you have experience, they have hearsay.
Repeating what somebody else said about something that very few people have experienced is easy. There are way to many armchair quarterbacks.
For all intents and purposes they are standing on the sidewalk watching the parade go by.
We need to respect those people. They believe what they are saying. They don't mean to drag you down. They just don't understand that the game we are playing is nothing like the game they are playing.
Respecting them doesn't mean letting their opinions effect you. We leave their words to them. We step outside of their world.
We are outside of the box thinkers. We learn by doing, not by reading, watching, or listening.
In short, we cut our own path.
Long term fasting will cause you to question everything about your past, present, and future.
It will make you question yourself to the point that you lose the belief in your fight.
Don't be mistaken. This is war. You will fight battles every day of your fast.
TV commercials, concerned family members, concerned friends, people in the fasting reddit, all of these and more, are all battles. Each battle takes your energy to fight them.
We all have a limit as to how much unintentional abuse that we can take.
Remember, we are playing a different game. We aren't better than them, it's just a different game.
To succeed we close off there words. We smile and nod without telling them they are wrong. Their rules don't apply. Remember, ours is a different game. We need our energy for other challenges, tougher challenges.
Once we're in a long fast our mind will scream at us. It doesn't Remember why it stored the fat. How could it. We don't live in a world where using fat for energy is part of the equation.
We know the truth. Fat is fuel. Combine that fat with electrolytes and vitamins and your body has a built in smorgasbord.
You will face many days where you question whether it is worth it. Days when the scales aren't moving, and you are constantly thinking about your comfort food, can push you close to your limit. If you aren't confident and forward thinking it can break you.
We play a game that is much like chess. Our move is the result of a strategy that we decided on several moves ago. We don't make in the moment decisions. We know the obstacles but we don't care because we set this strategy in motion days before. Today is temporary. It is here and gone in the blink of an eye.
Tomorrow. That's how we win today's battle. Our mind is already in tomorrow. How can we giving in today if we are already in a tomorrow frame of mind.
Our battle is intense. As with chess, sometimes we have to sacrifice a pawn, maybe even a knight. We do this by skipping a family gathering or a superbowl party if they fall within our fasting plan.
I've missed Easter, Thanksgiving, my birthday, my mom's birthday, mother's day, and 4th of july cookouts.
This game requires sacrifice. The weightloss is great. I've lost 240 pounds, but that is irrelevant.
Our true opponent is our mind. Nothing else can matter. In truth, nothing else exists. We stand alone. Alone against family, friends, and armchair experts.
On one fast, I was on day 56. My mind was done. I didn't think I had anything left in the gas tank, but I've faced things in life that totally wiped me out. I knew there is always just a little more left if we reach deep.
I held on. My mind was screaming. I couldn't hear anything but, "give in, it's over"
I dug deep. I went to my room. I just wanted to go to bed. I climbed on my bed. I couldn't climb under the covers. That would take too much external energy. I knelt on my bed. I rocked back and forth for three hours. I was sobbing uncontrollably. My body was shaking from the depth of those sobbs.
I made it. The tears ended. The rocking ended. I collapsed on my bed and slept for hours.
I faced one of the hardest challenges in my 55 years on this planet.
That victory is mine. Nobody can take it from me. Believe it or not several people from this fasting community tried. They told me that I was lying. They said I got lucky because I didn't die. They said I would cause someone to take their last breath.
I didn't care what they said, and I don't care now. The victory is mine. Any time I struggle I look back on that morning. I remember the intensity. I fought so hard, and I won. What challenge can I face in the future that could compare. The answer is, nothing. Nothing I will face can hold a candle to that day.
I've faced some extreme challenges. My girlfriend passed from cancer while laying in the bed beside of me. My mom went to prison when I was little. Our friend was murdered. One of our friends came over after he had been shot. We were robbed at gunpoint. None of that compared.
Even Marine Corps boot camp paled in comparison to that day.
We face intense situations while fasting. This may sound bad but I hope you can experience that. I can't think of anything that could ever take me down. I look back on that day and it empowers me. With that memory I can tackle any opponent.
We play a different game. Don't forget that.
99% of people on here won't get it. Many will condemn and down vote this.
I'll say it again, we play a different game. They won't get it and thats ok.
After you face your demons. After you make it out the other side, there is nothing left to compare.
Our battle may be different but the final outcome is the same.
We win.
After that challenge,
we win because that's all we know.

2024.06.01 09:27 meothfulmode The Common Principles of Health - a synthesis of reading 32 different nutrition books and 30 different papers

Because I am a dork who has been interested in nutrition for years I was curious how much overlap there was between nutrition advice across the medical, scientific, and consumer self-help spectrum. So, I went through and read a whole bunch of books[1] on the subject, government guidelines across the globe, as well as a number of scientific articles (meta-analysis, editorials, etc.) and wrote down all the general principles they suggested.
Then I ran that through ChatGPT 4Omni and asked it to give me a list of the most common principles from most-often repeated to least. The answers were... not surprising! Turns out common sense really is common.[2] I suspect a lot of people will read these and say "yeah, no duh" but it was a fun exercise for me and it increased my confidence in the general intelligence of humanity and the value of the scientific method.
Below is the list of Healthy Habits organized by categories (Diet Principles, Eating Principles, Living Practices) and arranged in order from the greatest impact[3] to the least. So, if you want to try adopting any of these principles into your life start at the top of each list and work your way down.

Healthy Diet Principles

Healthy Eating Principles

Healthy Daily Practices

Notes:
[1] I started by reading through everything at Red Pen Reviews and then I moved onto the best-seller list for diet and nutrition on the NYT and Amazon.
[2] What I did find surprising is how rarely Calorie Counting was mentioned as a healthy habit. It was associated with weight loss in the short term, but most of the meta-analysis showed that over the long term most people gain the weight back so it wasn't considered a "general solution for health and longevity." I've excluded it from the list because it was way low down on the list of principles that GPT spit out and because it feels like a thing one can do on top of these habits, but the habits can also be practiced without writing down what you ate and how many calories were in them.
[3] I use the term "impact" to mean "basically a lot of studies showed significant and strong evidence in observational cohort metaanalysis that doing this is good for you"

2024.06.01 01:34 Happilyhana Life changing for bloating

I’ve tried the elimination diet, fasting, different vitamins and anything else I could find for 4 years. my stomach was so bloated I looked seven months pregnant. I am usually about 111 pounds but over the course of these four years my bowels basically just stopped functioning and I began to gain weight in my stomach. I went from 111 pounds to 130. Finally, someone told me about 5htP slow release. It is an over-the-counter supplement you can get at any store, and as long as I take this supplement daily, my bowels have gone back to normal and I am down to 115 pounds. It took about four weeks for the five HTP to begin working, but I stay constant with it And I am back to eating anything I desire. I do have IBS, but it was always the kind where I was constantly in the bathroom. I ended up in a very toxic relationship for these last 4 years. Apparently the high cortisol the consistent fight or flight// the consistent fight or flight is what halted my gut from being healthy in the first place. Highly recommend trying five HTP if you have been dealing with any of these symptoms such as bloating, lack of bowel movement or constant fight or flight.

2024.05.31 21:44 SnooWalruses7872 Introducing Rite Aid “Stores of the Future”

Rite Aid is betting that the stores of the futures that put pharmacists on the chopping block for layoffs will help it draw customers to its competition.
The company closed a “store of the future” Monday in Moscow, Pennsylvania. It once included lower shelves to improve visibility and more natural light, with signs and display fixtures moved away from windows. In addition to a new location for the pharmacist that makes the person more accessible to customers, the store has a “wellness room” where customers can schedule a visit with a licensed clinician.
This is the third best of its kind for the pharmacy chain, and Rite Aid (RAD)has plans to close more stores more next year. Its closing comes at a time when drugstore chains are facing growing competition from online retailers like Amazon (AMZN) as well as big box stores like Walmart (WMT)and Target (TGT) that are drawing more customers in the post pandemic economy.
Rite Aid had 0 US stores during its last fiscal year ending February, a smaller number than rivals CVS (CVS) or Walgreens (WBA). .
Rite Aid is no longer allocating more space for beauty and personal care items, as well as vitamins and supplements, and less for stationary and household appliances. It will also no longer carry CBD items.

2024.05.31 20:30 Legitimate-Guest-110 My baby

My baby
Apollonia and BD

axiemom I have a routine for all my tanks and it's very minimal most of the time. It depends a great deal on the food you feed them and how much. I've had 7 cycled tanks with all kinds of cichlids and other wet pets. All happy in clear water. I got ALL my fish as babies except the glow fish. They come grown but I did buy a few small ones in the pet store. They have all reached maturity and bred except the red blood parrots. But it not for a lack of trying, they are constantly laying eggs!!! I haven't done a water change in months. It's just not necessary. I test it regularly and add vitamin cichlid trace routinely. Going on 2 years and it keeps growing! We have an African clawed 🐸 too!

2024.05.31 19:59 TinyDragonfruit7551 Am I going crazy, what is happening to me??

Hey I’m a 22year old man from a small town living in a big city for the second time! Not to go into details I have had a real breakdown once in my life two years ago, had to move home from the city to my family and let’s say I “healed”. I think I have been this person with a sketchy moral compass, I come across as very independent, confident and some might say blunt. I have my childish weaknesses as well that I think I’ll never get rid of haha. BUT TO GET TO THE POINT!
I had a period in my life where I liked to steal things, I used to lie a lot, and could do almost anything without thinking twice before or after. After I moved to the city for the second time for studies this kinda stopped, but I still thought I was able to do all of this shit with the same none guilt feeling. Today I was at the pharmacy to pick up some vitamins and I haven’t done this in like forever but I felt an urge to steal so I took one body oil and one very expensive cream. After I got home I felt so guilty and I started to beat myself up in my head. It was like there was two people inside of me. The one was me, and the other one was this voice making me feel so guilty about the whole thing I felt sick to my stomach. The voice or my head, forced me to go back and put the items back. It was a wild experience like I couldn’t control it myself because 2 years ago i could do this EASILY and tell it to my friend as a funny story, now I hated myself.
What is my problem? Am I going crazy?
I know most of the answers are gonna be like “you just have becomed a better person, good for you”. Well yeah i guess. But even though I’m not able to do this shit anymore I feel like my personality have changed so much. I want to be this cool outgoing person who likes to be a little edgy. I don’t want to loose my edge. I know stealing in stores doesn’t give you edge, but I think it’s weird that stealing two small items made me want to cry like wtf.
This is a messy post. English isn’t my first language, but I just wanted to get this in writings and out of my system. I don’t expect anyone to relate either haha. Well if you know what to say or want to share what this made you think about please please please do it. I don’t care if it’s harsh I would just love to know your thoughts. And feel free to ask any questions

2024.05.31 19:22 Weary_Try_9940 Vitamin K2 with D3? Yes or no?

I recently tested deficient for vitamin D3 (under 20ng/dl). This doesn’t surprise me as I live in a northern latitude, and I can only get decent sun exposure 2 or 3 months per year.
I started supplementing 5000iu of D3, but I’m not sure if I should take vitamin K with it. My main concern is calcium being stored in the arteries due to vitamin D supplementation.
Then there’s the issue of which type of K2 to supplement. Mk4 or Mk7. I read many reports of users developing arrhythmias when supplementing mk7 form, but apparently mk4 is not very bio available.
Did Peter ever say if he takes K2 with his daily D3 supplement?

2024.05.31 17:13 adulting4kids 14 Day Detox Diet

You are going to be low on energy as you go through any detox and you will have to supplement your previous toxic intake with healthy nutrients and vitamin supplements.
Try to eat at least one nutritious meal per day and stay hydrated with lots of water. You want to flush these things out of your system and water is the best way to make it happen quickly.
You are not going to want to go to the store within the first few days, so if possible, plan ahead or enlist help from someone close to you that can run to the store if you need them to.
These recipes are easy to prepare and are full of natural vitamins and protein. You're not going to get everything from food alone, so taking a multivitamin and Vitamin C is recommended for your additional dietary supplements.
You're welcome to use this for any detox, although it is designed for opiate withdrawal. When you get back to your old self again, try to continue this daily ritual of preparing your meals. It's not only healthier, but is also a cheaper option then eating out!

[Routine Help] New skincare routine with short beard - advice needed
Hey everyone.
I recently turned 30 and decided I wanted to get more into skincare, after being encouraged by my younger sister.
My skin is a bit drier than it used to be, and I would like to lessen the dark spots and circles under my eyes. And overall just improve the quality and look of my skin.
I regularly keep a very short beard (photo below) that sometimes gets slightly longer than in the photo, but not by much. I trim it down to that length at least once a week.
I'm a bit confused on how to care for my skin underneath my beard. I'm wondering - what specific beard products should I purchase, if any? I was considering getting the Kheil's Nourishing Beard Grooming Oil - but for almost 40 euros (I live in Germany) I want to be sure it's worth it for me first.
I don't have any specific issues with the skin under my beard, but I want to make sure it's being cared for as well, and that if I shave it one day, half my face won't look totally different than the other half.
For context, before last week I literally did 0 skincare, and just started regularly washing my face twice a day.
I would say I have normal to dry skin. I haven't ever had any major skin problems and get pimples pretty infrequently.
Here are the only three things I currently have: - CeraVe - Moisturizing cleansing lotion for face and body - wash twice a day - La Roche-Posay Anti-Shine Sun Protection Invisible SPF50+ Face Mist - cheap grocery store face moisturizer
I'm planning to purchase: - Anua heartleaf 77 soothing toner - The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid2% + B5 - The Ordinary Vitamin C Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% - The Ordinary More Molecules Caffeine Solution 5% + EGCG - Kiehl's Ultra Facial Moisturizer
Specifically for beard/shaving: - Kiehl's Ultimate Brushless Shave Cream White Eagle (I shave my neck 2/3 times per week) - Ultimate Razor Burn & Bump Relief (I shave my neck 2/3 times per week) - Nourishing Beard Grooming Oil - especially wondering if this is worth it for someone with a beard of my length
I was guessing that the toner, Hyaluronic Acid, and Vitamin C would all be fine to apply all over my face including into the beard, because they aren't greasy and would reach my skin pretty easily.
Then I was thinking that I could use the beard oil instead of the moisturizer on my beard.
Finally for spf, I would just use the mist from La Roche-Posay, and I assume that's also reaching the skin under my beard.
Any advice for my situation would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Honey is one of the world’s most popular sweeteners. And it’s been used as far back as Ancient Egypt to sweeten food and drinks.
Nevertheless, it adds a rich sweetness that can’t be replicated by regular white sugar. Or even natural sugars like brown sugar, maple syrup, and agave nectar. Still, many people don’t realize that Honey isn’t the only sweetener out there!
However, Honey has been an ingredient in many food and drinks since the earliest civilizations. But some may not know that other ingredients can substitute it, which can offer great taste and health benefits as well.
Fortunately, you don’t have to give up your favorite honey-sweetened drink or snack items because plenty of tasty substitutes can be used instead!
In this article, you’ll learn about delicious substitutes for Honey that will make your taste buds jump for joy!

1. Agave Nectar

Agave nectar is a natural sweetener that comes from the agave plant. It has a similar taste to Honey, but it is not as thick or sticky.
However, you can use agave nectar in all the same ways you would, Honey. It is one of the great substitutes for Honey for people who are looking for a healthier option.

However, To use coconut sugar, substitute for Honey in a 1:1 ratio. You can also add it to coffee or tea to sweeten it up.
Therefore, another reason why this sweetener is so popular. This is because you don't have to worry about any allergic reactions with it, unlike with some types of pollen.

5. Stevia

Stevia is another plant-based option that has gained popularity as substitutes for Honey. One teaspoon of stevia equals about one tablespoon of Honey, and you can use it in the same amount. When baking cookies or muffins, swap out the sugar for stevia powder.
But only if you want them to have a little extra sweetness without all the calories! Maple Syrup: While maple syrup may not be as sweet as Honey. Its natural flavor and rich taste make up for it.

6. Fructose

Fructose is an excellent substitute for Honey because it's just as sweet and can be used similarly. Plus, it has a slightly different flavor that can enhance specific recipes.
Nevertheless, Fructose is also a good choice for healthier substitutes for Honey since it has a lower glycemic index.

7. Blackstrap Molasses

Blackstrap molasses is a type of molasses that is made from sugar cane. It has a deep, rich flavor and is packed with nutrients like iron and calcium.
While it is not as sweet as Honey, it can be used in many recipes that call for Honey. Try using it in baked goods, sauces, or even as a natural sweetener in your coffee or tea.

When substituting Greek yogurt for Honey, use an equal amount of yogurt and add a little sugar. You can also use flavored Greek yogurts as a substitution. Remember that the flavors will come through in your final dish.

10. Barley Malt Syrup

Barley malt syrup is a thick, sticky sweetener made from malted barley. It has a toasty, molasses-like flavor and is about half as sweet as Honey. You can use it in baking or to sweeten beverages.

11. Molasses

Molasses is a by-product of sugar cane or sugar beet processing. It's thick, dark, and sticky, with a strong flavor. While it may not be as sweet as Honey, it can be used in many of the same ways.

12. Apple Sauce

If you're looking for delicious and healthy substitutes for Honey, look no further than applesauce! Apple sauce is packed with nutrients and antioxidants, which makes it an excellent choice for those looking to improve their health.
Plus, applesauce is a natural sweetener so that it can be used in place of Honey in recipes. To use applesauce as a substitute for Honey. Add the same amount of applesauce as you would, Honey.
For example, if a recipe calls for 1/2 cup of Honey, use 1/2 cup of applesauce instead. Apple sauce can also be used as a topping or filling for baked goods, making it a versatile ingredient to have on hand.

13. Yacon Root Syrup

If you're looking for a natural sweetener that doesn't come from bees, yacon root syrup is a great option. This sugar-free syrup is made from the Yacon root, a tuber native to South America.
However, Yacon syrup has a similar consistency to molasses and a sweet, caramel-like flavor. It's perfect for use in baking or as a topping on pancakes and waffles.

14. Dandelion Syrup

The dandelion syrup is one of the fantastic substitutes for Honey because it has a similar sweetness and consistency. Plus, it contains nutrients like vitamins A, C, and potassium.
Therefore, to make dandelion syrup, simmer equal parts dandelion flowers and water until the liquid is reduced by half. Then strain the mixture and add sugar to taste. Enjoy this delicious syrup on pancakes, waffles, or tea!

15. Monk Fruit

Monk fruit is a small, round fruit that is native to Southeast Asia. The fruit has a sweet flavor and can be used as a sugar substitute. Monk fruit is one of the great substitutes for Honey because it's low in calories and has no artificial sweeteners.

16. Mashed Bananas

Bananas are naturally sweet, making great substitutes for Honey in recipes. You can use them in baking or add them to smoothies and yogurt for a sweet treat. Just be sure to use ripe bananas, which have more sugar than unripe ones.

17. Date Paste

This natural ingredient is a powerhouse when it comes to sweetening up recipes. Date paste is made by blending dates into a thick paste.
And can be used as a 1:1 replacement for Honey in recipes. You can find date paste at most health food stores or make your own at home with this recipe.
Conclusion
There are various reasons why someone might want to find substitutes for Honey. Maybe you're vegan and don't want to use an animal product.
Perhaps you're allergic to bees or have a condition like diabetes that requires you to avoid sugar. Whatever the reason, there are plenty of great substitutes for Honey.

2024.05.31 07:42 Hatespeare My mental illnesses collection (Turned into venting about my first psychotic and psychiatric experience)

You hear about all sorts of things on TV, on the internet, or at school and you never assume that's ever going to happen to you. I have a big ego and life has been dragging me down with everything in its power. From a so called prince to a homeless nobody sort of thing, and right now I want to talk about my mental illnesses that I've learned about. I feel like some Pokémon master that has to catch them all. I used to do weed a lot, it turned into an addiction, and someday things turned really bad for me. I can't remember very well, I think it began with a panic attack, I called after my brother to call "991" as I was crawling in bed, and where I began to have some compulsive spasms, jumping 1 meter in the air, as if I was possessed or something. I couldn't speak anymore. Once this guy from emergencies arrived, he tried to calm me down to speak and I barely managed to tell him... I've lost my teeth. I was really high and eating, and I saw a tooth or something in my food, I felt a bit of nausea, and a big portion of my top left side of my mouth felt kinda funny, when I touched that side with my tongue, I couldn't feel nothing but my gums so I freaked out. The guy convinced me nothing was wrong and made me look into the mirror, it was a big chunk of food stuck in my braces facepalm It's amusing how relieving that was, I felt so childish. I was still shaken up pretty badly, tho. They took me to ER and cleaned my blood and I stood there for a few hours to recover. Everything was fine for a shortwhile, like a week or two, until a doctor scolded my mother for being so irresponsible with her health, warning us of the hard times to come. An hour later or less, I was walking with her through the city and we walked into a store of clothes. I got down to help her try some shoes and it hit me again. I can't really remember what happened. I was fine and next thing i know, I was having another panic attack or something. We rushed home as I was having a mental breakdown, i was being very difficult, and I assumed my parents found out about what happened before and that I was doing weed, but not really came forward with it, we even discussed about it, using euphemisms, but when i was in the car with her at that time, I spoke freely and she was shocked, they had no idea. I finally went to the hospital and did some tests, they found nothing, but TBC in my blood. Then I had my first appointment with a psychiatrist, I seemed fine, but hospitalized me for a shortwhile for more investigations. It turned out to be a pointless and horrible idea since I did nothing, but survive in a mental asylum for a few days. Only thing I remember was that they gave me a shot in the ass for vitamins or whatever and I faced my needle phobia. It went really well, but after 10-15 mins after I began shaking and jumping that 1 meter in the air again even tho' I was fine before, but I assumed it was because of my suppressed fear of needles. I'm not sure what happend next, but nothing relevant, of that I'm sure. In those 3 days or so while I was there, I did some physiological tests that I didn't take too seriously I hope, one of which was an IQ test which I remember I couldn't wait to get it over with and hopefully leave it unfinished or something. The results said I have severe depression, a mixed personality disorder, low iq 95, slow speach and underdeveloped communication skills. They didn't told me shit about what happend, but I think they mentioned it sounds like a psychotic episode. They gave me some pills and they turned me into a brainless zombie, treatment I couldn't follow for long. This was back in 2019.
This wasn't suppose to be about what happened then, but about the many illnesses I have such as: Severe depression, chronic depression, mixed personality disorder with most tedency towards borderline, psychotic behavior with high risk of schizophrenia, undiagnosed adhd and probably autism.
Thanks for reading! I'm exhausted from writing all of this, but I'd love to resume getting everything off my chest 😅

2024.05.30 20:25 Vnokewckv Inquiry about Vitamins!

Hello everyone!
Though I am not traditionally vegan, I thought this community would be the best to answer my questions!
Recently I was diagnosed with AGS (AlphaGal Syndrome) and I have a few pending diagnoses that we are waiting on blood test panels to update. During all of these tests, I discovered a Vitamin D deficiency among others! Of course, with AGS and some more specific allergies that I have, I can't use a generic Vitamin D supplement and my doctors have told me to find a Vegan supplement instead.
What would be a recommendation that does not have any mammal byproducts, carrageenan, OR Tapioca Starch? I live in a small rural community on a tribal reservation and have already been to the health stores in my surrounding areas to see if they have something that I am able to take, but most that are vegan contain Tapioca Starch. Any help that you can offer is greatly appreciated (and any tofu recipes if you are willing to share them!)

2024.05.30 20:04 healthy-Tip02 Why insulin resistance is the key to healing long covid and chronic illnesses (and why psychedelics work)

Why insulin resistance is the key to healing long covid and chronic illnesses (and why psychedelics work)

Click here for the newest dry fasting protocols for different diets and strategies

Why insulin resistance is the key to healing long covid and chronic illnesses (and why psychedelics work)

Aggressive fasting as a reset tool and then increasing relaxation and the parasympathetic nervous system.

Low-carb diets are skyrocketing in popularity because they work. It's estimated that 50-80% of the population suffers from some type of insulin resistance. Tack on years of accumulating damage and then a chronic illness hits. You can expect the body to shut down. One of dry fasting's most important benefits is improving the cellular resistance to hormones and micronutrients. Some of the fastest results you can get are with low-carb diets. The fastest results will be with a version of the carnivore diet. [Personally, I would never go full carnivore because there is just too much risk of losing microbiome diversity forever].
Here’s what you’ll read online on thousands of blogs and articles when it comes to insulin resistance and how to deal with it:
  • Reduce carbohydrates
  • Physical activity
  • Lower weight
  • Healthy diet
The same things get repeated over and over. Yes, these are all important things for overall health, but once you’re damaged, these things will not reverse the underlying condition because they are too vague and not strong enough. Especially if you’ve already got a chronic illness. Get on a low-carb diet for ~too long~ and your thyroid starts to suffer, metabolism drops, sleep quality worsens, and so much more. I know I'll get a lot of hate for this viewpoint, but I guarantee you that if you spend enough time on the diet, without cheating, you'll eventually hit a wall. Most influencers cheat, mark my words. There needs to be a third step after the initial healing. A step that puts it all together and gets you back to being able to eat a variety of foods and maintain great health.
💡On the topic of hate. Believe me. I have harassers follow me everywhere I go. On Reddit for example, I have multiple accounts that follow me and comment under all my posts about how dry fasting is dangerous and that I'm a lunatic. None of them have tried it because "*you'd have to be an idiot to not drink water". *I have carnivore fanatics constantly telling me that it's the proper human diet and that I should be ashamed. I have vegans telling me that I'm sick and mucus-infested because of animal protein. I even have Filonov (probably through Svetlana tbh), calling me a slimeball that steals Filonov's work. I guess I took Dunning's place as Filonov enemy #1 xd. Are you kidding me? I recommend Filonov's retreats for people, lol. I guess a rising tide doesn't lift all boats? Humanity's greed will be its undoing... Needless to say, I have days when I just want to say fuck it. I've healed myself – I have no need to continue this hobby to help others... But then I talk with someone who tells me that I saved their life after trying everything else aaand I'm back on track. On the topic of greed... I even used to offer free 1-hour chats. People would book them and then not show up. It's no wonder providing free help is a rarity, people will not respect your time. It doesn't help that our society is becoming more and more egocentric and narcissistic. This mentality is also why chronic illnesses are on the rise. I do believe that dry fasting is a powerful tool to bring people back into the light. A mini enlightenment pill. A true force for good. I hope I'm right. That was my mini-rant. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.
So I was recently talking/consulting with Dr. Berg about dry fasting. Yes THE Bergman. Our conversation shifted towards micronutrient resistance and it instantly gave me a light bulb moment connecting micronutrient resistance to insulin resistance. We talked about how high vitamin D levels are preventative for many chronic illnesses. And yet chronically ill people with high amounts of Vitamin D were still sick. It turns out that simply having high Vitamin D levels in the blood doesn't mean that it's being delivered to the cell. Hence, cellular micronutrient resistance. Drum roll. Fix the cells and fix yourself.
What is Cellular Micronutrient Resistance?
Cellular micronutrient resistance refers to the inability of cells to effectively utilize essential vitamins and minerals, leading to deficiencies even when dietary intake is adequate. This resistance can impair metabolic functions and exacerbate insulin resistance.
What is the recommended way to fix this?
You’ll be told to eat a whole foods diet, supplement, and improve your gut health. This all makes sense, but if that were all there was to it, we wouldn’t have so many problems and all you long haulers would be healed already. If you're inclined to skip dry fasting and fixing the parasympathetic nervous system, you can ~technically~ only focus on trying to get all the necessary co-factors. I don't think this will work for many, but if you're relatively healthy, go for it. This means micronutrients that are meant to help the cells improve their metabolism and micronutrient resistance. Things like Magnesium, Zinc, and B vitamins are things you’ll see over and over again when it comes to cell metabolism and health.
Dry fasting is going to work wonders. Just like really long water fasts work too. I think dry fasting is the more advanced version that brings more benefits, but that doesn't mean it's the answer for everyone. However, even though dry fasting can be a miracle worker, it's not always enough. You'll notice that even people going to Filonov retreats where they do 9-day dry fasts, still come back and deteriorate over time. They feel great initially, but then they either overdo it, underdo it, or simply deteriorate with no known cause. I see it over and over. Some heavy illnesses require more. I believe psychedelics and parasympathetic supplements are one option.
You’ll notice that I have psilocybin indicated during the Scorch Protocol refeed sections. I have also experimented with THC/CBD. To explain this quickly and succinctly before you freak out, let me start off by saying that I believe insulin and cellular micronutrient resistance are the key to everything. It’s one of the main reasons why fasting seems to help so much, fasting puts the cells through the ringer, and dry fasting especially. Think of it like giving an electric shock to restart the system. Restructuring the water and internal components due to the hyperosmotic stress helps.
Cellular micronutrient resistance and insulin resistance are one of the main causes of illnesses and obesity, and it’s why low-carb diets seem to help almost all sick people (initially). Damage from high blood glucose mixed with high insulin gets people into all kinds of trouble. Getting rid of that brings them back. But fixing the underlying issue is where you need to focus your attention on.
Now, if you’ve ever dived into this topic related to Diabetes and insulin resistance you’ll notice that most doctors say that you can’t heal the underlying issue. Once you’re diabetic, you can only manage the symptoms through insulin and diet. This is where low-carb diets come around and claim to heal diabetes. I don’t like calling this healing, because we all know that if the ‘healed’ person has any high amount of carbs they will spiral out of control and out of health very quickly. How many low/zero-carb dieters do you know that eat a piece of fruit or bread and spiral out of control? Even though your cells technically become more insulin sensitive, this is due to them being starved of glucose. Refill the glycogen stores and you’re back to intense insulin resistance. Healed would mean that you are now truly insulin sensitive and can eat large amounts of carbs with no negative side effects.
So how do we fight this? Aggressive fasting as a reset tool and then increasing relaxation and the parasympathetic nervous system. Some may find my methods a little drastic. If that is you, I want you to feel comfortable understanding that simply focusing on relaxation-type states will help too. Think brain retraining, meditation, etc. My methods are just more aggressive. More details under the Scorch Protocol.
I stumbled upon this through experimentation that later led me down many research paths for insulin resistance and psychedelics. Why do they help chronic illness so much? Why do they lower blood sugar, and give you energy? They lower insulin resistance and cellular micronutrient resistance. Chronic illness, terrible sleeping habits, and bad diets are all very stressful and this stress translates to cellular resistance. Daily stress builds and the resistance gets worse. Our cells go through trauma and have a very hard time going back. Imagine them slowly turning to stone. This stone is less permeable, and will eventually break the cell. You can almost imagine the idea of the stoneskin disease from Game of thrones. Going backwards is tough. Yet there are miraculous recoveries attributed to meditation, relaxation, and psychedelics. What people don’t understand is that psychedelics are like meditation and relaxation on steroids (if taken correctly). All of these acts contribute to lowering levels of fasting insulin and improving all aspects of cellular resistance.

The impact of marijuana use on glucose, insulin, and insulin resistance among US adults. ~https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23684393/~
“Epidemiologic studies have found lower prevalence rates of obesity and diabetes mellitus in marijuana users compared with people who have never used marijuana, suggesting a relationship between cannabinoids and peripheral metabolic processes.”
“Conclusions: We found that marijuana use was associated with lower levels of fasting insulin and HOMA-IR, and smaller waist circumference.”
Have you ever made the connection to chronically ill people smoking weed? The scientific reasoning is to use it to deal with the pain. But it's much more than just that. Some of the best researchers in the metabolic field, like Ben Bikman, attribute insulin resistance to our increasing cancer and chronic illness rates.

Chronic Treatment With Psilocybin Decreases Changes in Body Weight in a Rodent Model of Obesity ~https://www.frontiersin.org/journals/psychiatry/articles/10.3389/fpsyt.2022.891512/full~
“Results: Both the low and high dose psilocybin groups caused a significant decrease in changes in body weight compared to controls. The metformin group produced a greater decrease in change in body weight than either psilocybin groups or controls. Both high dose psilocybin and metformin decreased consumption of the high calorie diet, and exhibited decreased central adiposity.”
If you start to understand insulin's role in the body, you'll understand that this study points towards improvement in insulin sensitivity.

A single dose of psilocybin, the active compound in “magic mushrooms,” given to mice prompted a long-lasting increase in the connections between neurons.
A single dose of psilocybin, the active compound in “magic mushrooms,” given to mice prompted a long-lasting increase in the connections between neurons.
💡Neurons are crucial for the functioning of the nervous system, as they are responsible for transmitting signals throughout the body. Research indicates that a dysfunctional autonomic nervous system (ANS) can be linked to impaired neuronal health. Conditions like neuropathy, which affect neuron function, can disrupt the ANS. Improving neuron connectivity and health, through methods such as neuroplasticity exercises, adequate nutrition, and possibly interventions like neurostimulation, can potentially enhance the performance of the nervous system. This, in turn, could improve the regulation of autonomic functions, suggesting that targeting neuronal health is a viable approach to addressing ANS dysfunction.
Are you starting to see why this is a key component of recovering your health? Chronic illnesses are diabolical and require aggressive treatment. If you are simply trying to improve your health but are only slightly sick or unhealthy, then you can ignore a lot of these recommendations. But since you’re reading this, I’m going to assume that this information is really sparking connections and shifting gears in your head. I’m hoping that you’re also understanding the need to dive deeper and ~gradually~ experiment with these ideas. I’ve noticed that a lot of extreme personalities like to jump into the deep end as soon as possible. Take it easy, you’re already undertaking an intense process. Yes, it is miraculous but at the same time, it can be dangerous if taken too lightly.
I’ll be diving a lot deeper into these serotonin and parasympathetic activators in future topics, but I do have a small protocol dedicated to psilocybin that you should check out called the enlightenment protocol ;) Expanding on ideas introduced by Paul Stamets, like the Stamet’s Stack is a great place to start.
