2024.05.29 06:41 H0b5t3r [CLAIM] The Holy Kingdom of Argentina

Mood
Quito
As Air Commodore Mora marched down the street of Quito with her soldiers behind her, she felt an immense sense of pride. She had made it, her whole life she had studied, worked the hardest, fought the fiercest, and never accepted less than perfection from herself to make her father proud. Now, having earned a military district of her very own, she knew he was smiling down on her.
The cheering of the crowds went unnoticed as with every step a memory flashed through her mind; her crying mother telling her that she wouldn't see her father again, being picked on by the older children in school, beating up the older children in school, long nights of studying, being told her studies had paid off and she could directly commission as an officer without enlisting first, being top of her class in flight class, winning top marks in combat exercises, in recalling her career she almost didn't notice she was approaching the review stand, she rendered her hand salute and almost cried when King Franco II and Supreme Commander Sanchez returned the honor
****
King Franco II smiled as he looked out of the stand, the parade was nice but his real source of joy was the people, his people, happily cheering for his soldiers, sailors, and airmen. His family had built this country, nearly fifty years ago his grandfather, Franco Peron, had managed to save the tumultuous country by establishing himself as king and creating a society based around order and defense. He knew his country was not perfect, the letters he received with complaints made this clear, but no country is and these letters were very infrequent and his trusted Supreme Commander, Ministers, and General-Governors were always quick to remedy the problems.
Franco II had been king nearly all of his life but still these little moments when he was out among the people were what he looked forward to most of all. His life was comfortable and he had every luxury he could possibly imagine. He still sometimes felt like he was missing something, he wanted to go out amongst the people, to celebrate with them but his advisors would not allow him, security they said. Franco II didn't understand this concern, his people loved him, but still Supreme Commander Sanchez was his most trusted advisor and close friend, surely he was just being over cautious, still he would wait.

Juan rushed down the dark street, avoiding street lights and listening for a patrol, his day of picking garbage for valuables had ended up being pointless, another night of sleep for dinner he thought as he rushed to his small apartment, the silence of the night
"Alto!"
The shout cut through the fog, Juan jumped, startled, looking back he saw two soldiers, he ran as fast as he could, with his lack of military fitness the soldiers caught him no problem, as on grabbed him and he heard the cocking of a gun, Juan stopped, raising his hands in the air, and turned to face the two men. He squinted through the darkness to try to distinguish their rank insignia, one was a private but he couldn't remember the other insignia, he wished he had paid attention in military science in school, if he had passed he would have a real job, a happy life.
"Military ID?" asked the man with the unrecognizable rank
Juan stood up straight and stammered "yo no tengo master specialist"
The men laughed lightly for a moment before the alleged specialist responded "Sergeant. Por que no?"
"Yo s-s-s-soy pacifist," whimpered Juan.
"Is that Portuguese?" The sergeant asked the private "I've never heard s-s-soy or pacifist in Spanish before."
"Maybe he's a spy," said the private, "he speaks such strange words and doesn't even know ranks, every Argentinian 3rd grader knows Army ranks!"
"I'm not a spy, I'm a pacifist! I don't believe in violence" Juan said in the strongest voice he could muster.
"How can you call yourself an Argentinian? a Catholic?" demanded the private
As Juan started to give a long, boring, pointless answer the sergeant interrupted "Maybe he's a sailor? They don't fight either. Can you swim?"
"I'm not a sailor, I'm can't swim, Jesus says to--"
Without waiting for a response that would only upset him more, the sergeant grabbed one of Juan's arms, following his lead the private did the same they began to walk him to the edge of the port.
"No! Por Favor!" Juan begged, screamed, and struggled, but the far stronger military men had no problem forcing him over the edge of the pier. Down he dropped into the dark water, "Brazilian, spy, pacifist... I don't know what is worst" laughed the sergeant.
Juan struggled to keep his head above water but as his head slipped under for the last time there was only one thought in his mind
"I wish I had paid attention in military science"

2024.05.27 18:34 Ok_Piano_7281 Christianity: A Sect of Judaism!

A study showing the JEWISH roots of Christianity, and how the first Christians were Torah-observant Jews.

Christianity today is a watered-down, bootlegged version.
Jesus Christ was a devout Jew and his message was from/originated among Judaism.
There were jewish sects during the time of Jesus before he began his ministry. This would make christianity a sect of Judaism. Everybody at the time understood christianity as a sect/denomination of Judaism.
Christ is a latinized version.
The word christianity comes from the gentiles.
Messiah is the transliteration from the Hebrew roots.
True christianity is a sect of judaism.
Judaism: britannica.com
Hebrews -> Israelites -> Jews (name progression over time)
It was prophesied that the religion would get corrupted, which is how it came to today. Most things in modern “christianity” are pagan customs that are not originated by the hebrew man.
Jesus is a greek to latin to english word. “Jesus” wasn’t his original name.
Modern day christianity has hidden the Hebrew roots of where their religion comes from.
There is nothing Hebrew about Christmas, Easter, or new years.
What Jesus said about his jewish faith…
Mat 5:17-20 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. (18) For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. (19) Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (20) For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 5:17-18 NIV “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. (18) For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
Mat 5:17-18 NLT “Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose. (18) I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not even the smallest detail of God’s law will disappear until its purpose is achieved.
Mat 5:19-20 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (20) For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
The law of moses is associated with the hebrews.
Jesus was white washed. He would have looked much much darker than depictions today.
Mat 8:3-4 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. (4) And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
If people were teaching the Jesus of the bible, there would be so many more Jewish converts.
Modern day christianity has nothing to do with the Jews or israel.
“Christians” want to eliminate everything Hebrew about jesus. In the sunday church, they never want to talk about the law of moses, but somehow the tithes survived…
Bear your cross means bear the hardship that comes with following him. He never said to put a literal cross on your neck.
Luk 10:25-28 And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? (26) He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? (27) And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. (28) And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
Even the catholic church acknowledges that the real Jesus was black.
Mat 10:1 And when he had called unto him his twelve disciples, he gave them power against unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease.
Mat 10:5-6 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not: (6) But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
“Christianity” doesn’t want anything to do with the hebrew roots.
At this time, the Samaritans were the most hated in israel…
Joh 4:21-22 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. (22) Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
Joh 4:21-22 NIV “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. (22) You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews.
Joh 4:21-22 NLT Jesus replied, “Believe me, dear woman, the time is coming when it will no longer matter whether you worship the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem. (22) You Samaritans know very little about the one you worship, while we Jews know all about him, for salvation comes through the Jews.
If salvation is through the Jews, why are “christians” following the romans. Everything from modern day christians do comes from the romans. Martin Luther only left because of his issue with the infallibility of the pope. He kept most of the catholic doctrine. The catholic church was the one that promoted the crucifixes and crosses.
Jesus is sending you to his people. He said WE.
The great commission, what he commissioned them to do…
Mat 28:18-19 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. (19) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
“Salvation is of the Jews” means you have to do what the hebrews did.
Not only do you have to do what the Hebrews did, but what the Hebrews that believe in Jesus do. The only people that do this are black hebrew israelites. They are in the right direction.
If you want salvation, you have to go to the real hebrews (or the ones that are teaching the real doctrine).
What christianity was called before it was called this…
Act 9:1-2 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, (2) And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
Act 9:2 NIV and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem.
Act 9:2 NLT He requested letters addressed to the synagogues in Damascus, asking for their cooperation in the arrest of any followers of the Way he found there. He wanted to bring them—both men and women—back to Jerusalem in chains.
Act 9:2 NASB and asked for letters from him to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, both men and women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem.
“The Way” was a sect of Judaism because it started with the jews and was first preached to the jews.
Act 19:8-9 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God. (9) But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.
The Laws of Moses is judaism
Act 19:21-23 After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome. (22) So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season. (23) And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.
They called the sect “the way”
Act 22:1 Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you.
Act 22:3-4 I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day. (4) And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.
Act 24:14 But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
First he said “the way” was believing in Jesus and then also believing in the law and prophets.
Thus, THE WAY is belief in the law and prophets AND belief in Jesus.
If you are a true christian, you are another sect of judaism.
People today call the Passover, the eucharist or communion. Communion is in the new testament but it has no hebrew roots. The eucharist or communion is nothing but the Passover. And the Passover started with the Jews. Why don’t christians call it the passover? THEY DON’T WANT ANY HEBREW ROOTS.
Act 24:22 And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter.
One of the labels they were given…
Act 24:1 And after five days Ananias the high priest descended with the elders, and with a certain orator named Tertullus, who informed the governor against Paul.
Act 24:5 For we have found this man a pestilent fellow, and a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes:
Act 5:17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation,
Act 26:4-5 My manner of life from my youth, which was at the first among mine own nation at Jerusalem, know all the Jews; (5) Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.
All depictions make Jesus look like a european.
People stripped Jesus of his hebrew heritage. God referred to the law/statutes/commandments as the children of God’s heritage.
Nazareth, Nazarene: Holman Bible Dictionary
In Dr. Suess’, the person was trying to force sam I AM to eat ham/pork the whole time, then he finally eats it at the end.
The Grinch is very pagan, first rejected then was brought back and liked by the children.
Nazarene: Smith Bible Dictionary
When the disciples were first called christians…
Act 11:19-20 Now they which were scattered abroad upon the persecution that arose about Stephen travelled as far as Phenice, and Cyprus, and Antioch, preaching the word to none but unto the Jews only. (20) And some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, which, when they were come to Antioch, spake unto the Grecians, preaching the Lord Jesus.
Act 11:25-26 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: (26) And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Christian: Easton Bible Dictionary
If you don’t want to accept the hebrew/israel roots, then Jesus doesn’t want anything to do with you.
The whole bible is semitic doctrine.

Christians concluded that there are only 4 commandments that they should follow as non-Israelites. Christians will take you here so that they don’t have to keep the entire law of moses. The christians that give it to you don’t understand the context/background. Even though they know that there are more than just these 4 commandments.
These verses don’t even support them either. This can’t be used as a standard for what we should do.
It doesn’t include: don't murder, don’t steal, don’t keep the sabbath, don’t honor your father and mother, etc.
Hypocrisy is doing this. This is a double edged sword.
Belief in Jesus Christ is the only way to salvation.
The disciples never said anything about circumcision. There was never a debate about the Law of Moses before Acts 15. The first christians were Jews. They never abandoned the Law of Moses. The disciples encouraged keeping the Law of Moses.
The 4 commandments mentioned were a “beginners package” to get them started.
Act 15:19-20 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: (20) But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
Paganism is idolatry.
The crosses everywhere are idolatry.
The Jews and Gentiles didn’t have different sets of rules.
Act 15:1 And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved.
The apostles only talked about circumcision in response to people that were against christianity.
Act 2:36-41 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. (37) Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? (38) Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. (39) For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call. (40) And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. (41) Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
The Jews didn’t stop following the Law of Moses. All they added was believing in Jesus.
Their audience was Jews.
Keeping the law never became an issue until “christians”/new-comers started talking about it.
There are two groups of gentiles. Those that knew the law and those that knew nothing (were 100% pagan).
Act 4:10-11 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. (11) This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. (12) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
The people in Acts 15 were talking to new gentile converts. They had no background on the law of moses or Jesus.
What do you have to do to be saved?
But what does that entail?...
You show that belief by establishing the law!
Act 11:13-18 And he shewed us how he had seen an angel in his house, which stood and said unto him, Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter; (14) Who shall tell thee words, whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved. (15) And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning. (16) Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that he said, John indeed baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost. (17) Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God? (18) When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance unto life.
The Law of Moses wasn’t an issue. Jesus never said anything against it.
Act 15:1-2 And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved. (2) When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.
Act 15:5-11 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses. (6) And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter. (7) And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. (8) And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; (9) And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. (10) Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? (11) But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.
Mat 23:1-4 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples, (2) Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat: (3) All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. (4) For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
The only people that described the law in a negative way were sinners.
How can the sabbath be a burden when it literally means rest?
The burden was talking about the man-made traditions that the Pharisees try to add. They did it with the law and with the gospel.
Mat 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (29) Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. (30) For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
The only way you tempt God is by disobeying him.
The apostles didn’t have a decision prepared for Acts 15 which is why they went to the council.
1Jn 5:1-3 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. (2) By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. (3) For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
1Jn 5:3 ERV Loving God means obeying his commands. And God's commands are not too hard for us,
1Jn 5:3 CEV We show our love for God by obeying his commandments, and they are not hard to follow.
1Jn 5:3 DRB For this is the charity of God: That we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not heavy.
The Pharisees' commandments are heavy (they don’t talk about the law of Moses).
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~REAL LESSON NOW~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Act 15:13-14 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: (14) Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.
Act 15:19-20 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: (20) But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood.
Lev 19:4 Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the LORD your God.
Lev 18:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
Lev 18:5-6 Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD. (6) None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD.
Lev 17:13-14 And whatsoever man there be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn among you, which hunteth and catcheth any beast or fowl that may be eaten; he shall even pour out the blood thereof, and cover it with dust. (14) For it is the life of all flesh; the blood of it is for the life thereof: therefore I said unto the children of Israel, Ye shall eat the blood of no manner of flesh: for the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whosoever eateth it shall be cut off.
James drew from the law of Moses. Was this all that James thought was essential? Why would he give any precepts at all if only belief in Jesus was the goal?
The Holy Spirit guided them what in the beginning that they should do.
Act 15:20-21 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood. (21) For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.
He assumed that the Gentiles would somehow end up in a synagogue on the sabbath. This means James also told them about the sabbath day!
They had to be smart about how they taught them.
Act 13:13-15 Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem. (14) But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down. (15) And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.
Act 13:42-44 And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. (43) Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, persuaded them to continue in the grace of God. (44) And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.
Jews kicked out the christians from the synagogues.
True christianity is torah observance.
1Ti 4:12-13 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity. (13) Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
1Ti 4:12-13 ISV Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but be an example for other believers in your speech, behavior, love, faithfulness, and purity. (13) Until I arrive, give your full concentration to the public reading of Scripture, to exhorting, and to teaching.
1Ti 4:12-13 BBE Let no one make little of you because you are young, but be an example to the church in word, in behaviour, in love, in faith, in holy living. (13) Till I come, give attention to the reading of the holy Writings, to comforting the saints, and to teaching.
1Ti 4:12-13 CEV Don't let anyone make fun of you, just because you are young. Set an example for other followers by what you say and do, as well as by your love, faith, and purity. (13) Until I arrive, be sure to keep on reading the Scriptures in worship, and don't stop preaching and teaching.
The four things that James said was not the exhaustive list of do’s and don’ts. It was just an introduction to the law of moses.
CHAPTER 2
HOW HELENA THE QUEEN OF ADIABENE AND HER SON IZATES, EMBRACED THE JEWISH RELIGION; AND HOW HELENA SUPPLIED THE POOR WITH CORN, WHEN THERE WAS A GREAT FAMINE AT JERUSALEM.
  1. ABOUT this time it was that Helena, queen of Adiabene, and her son Izates, changed their course of life, and embraced the Jewish customs, and this on the occasion following: Monobazus, the king of Adiabene, who had also the name of Bazeus, fell in love with his sister Helena, and took her to be his wife, and begat her with child. But as he was in bed with her one night, he laid his hand upon his wife’s belly, and fell asleep, and seemed to hear a voice, which bid him take his hand off his wife’s belly, and not hurt the infant that was therein, which, by God’s providence, would be safely born, and have a happy end. This voice put him into disorder; so he awaked immediately, and told the story to his wife; and when his son was born, he called him Izates. He had indeed Monobazus, his elder brother, by Helena also, as he had other sons by other wives besides. Yet did he openly place all his affections on this his only begotten (2) son Izates, which was the origin of that envy which his other brethren, by the same father, bore to him; while on this account they hated him more and more, and were all under great affliction that their father should prefer Izates before them. Now although their father was very sensible of these their passions, yet did he forgive them, as not indulging those passions out of an ill disposition, but out of a desire each of them had to be beloved by their father. However, he sent Izates, with many presents, to Abennerig, the king of Charax-Spasini, and that out of the great dread he was in about him, lest he should come to some misfortune by the hatred his brethren bore him; and he committed his son’s preservation to him. Upon which Abennerig gladly received the young man, and had a great affection for him, and married him to his own daughter, whose name was Samacha: he also bestowed a country upon him, from which he received large revenues.
  2. But when Monobazus was grown old, and saw that he had but a little time to live, he had a mind to come to the sight of his son before he died. So he sent for him, and embraced him after the most affectionate manner, and bestowed on him the country called Carra; it was a soil that bare amomum in great plenty: there are also in it the remains of that ark, wherein it is related that Noah escaped the deluge, and where they are still shown to such as are desirous to see them. (3) Accordingly, Izates abode in that country until his father’s death. But the very day that Monobazus died, queen Helena sent for all the grandees, and governors of the kingdom, and for those that had the armies committed to their command; and when they were come, she made the following speech to them: "I believe you are not unacquainted that my husband was desirous Izates should succeed him in the government, and thought him worthy so to do. However, I wait your determination; for happy is he who receives a kingdom, not from a single person only, but from the willing suffrages of a great many." This she said, in order to try those that were invited, and to discover their sentiments. Upon the hearing of which, they first of all paid their homage to the queen, as their custom was, and then they said that they confirmed the king’s determination, and would submit to it; and they rejoiced that Izates’s father had preferred him before the rest of his brethren, as being agreeable to all their wishes: but that they were desirous first of all to slay his brethren and kinsmen, that so the government might come securely to Izates; because if they were once destroyed, all that fear would be over which might arise from their hatred and envy to him. Helena replied to this, that she returned them her thanks for their kindness to herself and to Izates; but desired that they would however defer the execution of this slaughter of Izates’s brethren till he should be there himself, and give his approbation to it. So since these men had not prevailed with her, when they advised her to slay them, they exhorted her at least to keep them in bonds till he should come, and that for their own security; they also gave her counsel to set up some one whom she could put the greatest trust in, as a governor of the kingdom in the mean time. So queen Helena complied with this counsel of theirs, and set up Monobazus, the eldest son, to be king, and put the diadem upon his head, and gave him his father’s ring, with its signet; as also the ornament which they call Sampser, and exhorted him to administer the affairs of the kingdom till his brother should come; who came suddenly upon hearing that his father was dead, and succeeded his brother Monobazus, who resigned up the government to him.
  3. Now, during the time Izates abode at Charax-Spasini, a certain Jewish merchant, whose name was Ananias, got among the women that belonged to the king, and taught them to worship God according to the Jewish religion. He, moreover, by their means, became known to Izates, and persuaded him, in like manner, to embrace that religion; he also, at the earnest entreaty of Izates, accompanied him when he was sent for by his father to come to Adiabene; it also happened that Helena, about the same time, was instructed by a certain other Jew and went over to them. But when Izates had taken the kingdom, and was come to Adiabene, and there saw his brethren and other kinsmen in bonds, he was displeased at it; and as he thought it an instance of impiety either to slay or imprison them, but still thought it a hazardous thing for to let them have their liberty, with the remembrance of the injuries that had been offered them, he sent some of them and their children for hostages to Rome, to Claudius Caesar, and sent the others to Artabanus, the king of Parthia, with the like intentions.
  4. And when he perceived that his mother was highly pleased with the Jewish customs, he made haste to change, and to embrace them entirely; and as he supposed that he could not he thoroughly a Jew unless he were circumcised, he was ready to have it done. But when his mother understood what he was about, she endeavored to hinder him from doing it, and said to him that this thing would bring him into danger; and that, as he was a king, he would thereby bring himself into great odium among his subjects, when they should understand that he was so fond of rites that were to them strange and foreign; and that they would never bear to be ruled over by a Jew. This it was that she said to him, and for the present persuaded him to forbear. And when he had related what she had said to Ananias, he confirmed what his mother had said; and when he had also threatened to leave him, unless he complied with him, he went away from him, and said that he was afraid lest such an action being once become public to all, he should himself be in danger of punishment for having been the occasion of it, and having been the king’s instructor in actions that were of ill reputation; and he said that he might worship God without being circumcised, even though he did resolve to follow the Jewish law entirely, which worship of God was of a superior nature to circumcision. He added, that God would forgive him, though he did not perform the operation, while it was omitted out of necessity, and for fear of his subjects. So the king at that time complied with these persuasions of Ananias. But afterwards, as he had not quite left off his desire of doing this thing, a certain other Jew that came out of Galilee, whose name was Eleazar, and who was esteemed very skillful in the learning of his country, persuaded him to do the thing; for as he entered into his palace to salute him, and found him reading the law of Moses, he said to him, "Thou dost not consider, O king! that thou unjustly breakest the principal of those laws, and art injurious to God himself, [by omitting to be circumcised]; for thou oughtest not only to read them, but chiefly to practice what they enjoin thee. How long wilt thou continue uncircumcised? But if thou hast not yet read the law about circumcision, and dost not know how great impiety thou art guilty of by neglecting it, read it now." When the king had heard what he said, he delayed the thing no longer, but retired to another room, and sent for a surgeon, and did what he was commanded to do. He then sent for his mother, and Ananias his tutor, and informed them that he had done the thing; upon which they were presently struck with astonishment and fear, and that to a great degree, lest the thing should be openly discovered and censured, and the king should hazard the loss of his kingdom, while his subjects would not bear to be governed by a man who was so zealous in another religion; and lest they should themselves run some hazard, because they would be supposed the occasion of his so doing. But it was God himself who hindered what they feared from taking effect; for he preserved both Izates himself and his sons when they fell into many dangers, and procured their deliverance when it seemed to be impossible, and demonstrated thereby that the fruit of piety does not perish as to those that have regard to him, and fix their faith upon him only. (4) But these events we shall relate hereafter.
  5. But as to Helena, the king’s mother, when she saw that the affairs of Izates’s kingdom were in peace, and that her son was a happy man, and admired among all men, and even among foreigners, by the means of God’s providence over him, she had a mind to go to the city of Jerusalem, in order to worship at that temple of God which was so very famous among all men, and to offer her thank-offerings there. So she desired her son to give her leave to go thither; upon which he gave his consent to what she desired very willingly, and made great preparations for her dismission, and gave her a great deal of money, and she went down to the city Jerusalem, her son conducting her on her journey a great way. Now her coming was of very great advantage to the people of Jerusalem; for whereas a famine did oppress them at that time, and many people died for want of what was necessary to procure food withal, queen Helena sent some of her servants to Alexandria with money to buy a great quantity of corn, and others of them to Cyprus, to bring a cargo of dried figs. And as soon as they were come back, and had brought those provisions, which was done very quickly, she distributed food to those that were in want of it, and left a most excellent memorial behind her of this benefaction, which she bestowed on our whole nation. And when her son Izates was informed of this famine,
(5) he sent great sums of money to the principal men in Jerusalem. However, what favors this queen and king conferred upon our city Jerusalem shall be further related hereafter.
ENDNOTES
(2): Josephus here uses the word monogene, an only begotten son, for no other than one best beloved, as does both the Old and New Testament, I mean where there were one or more sons besides, Gen_22:2; Heb_11:17. See the note on B. I. ch. 13. sect. 1.
(3): It is here very remarkable, that the remains of Noah’s ark were believed to he still in being in the days of Josephus. See the note on B. I. ch. 3. sect. 5.
(4): Josephus is very full and express in these three chapters, 3., 4., and 5., in observing how carefully Divine Providence preserved this Izates, king of Adiabene, and his sons, while he did what he thought was his bounden duty, notwithstanding the strongest political motives to the contrary.
(5): This further account of the benefactions of Izates and Helena to the Jerusalem Jews which Josephus here promises is, I think, no where performed by him in his present works. But of this terrible famine itself in Judea, take Dr. Hudson’s note here: - "This ( says he ) is that famine foretold by Agabus, Act_11:28, which happened when Claudius was consul the fourth time; and not that other which happened when Claudius was consul the second time, and Cesina was his colleague, as Scaliger says upon Eusebius, p. 174." Now when Josephus had said a little afterward, ch. 5. sect. 2, that "Tiberius Alexander succeeded Cuspius Fadus as procurator," he immediately subjoins, that" under these procurators there happened a great famine in Judea." Whence it is plain that this famine continued for many years, on account of its duration under these two procurators. Now Fadus was not sent into Judea till after the death of king Agrippa, i.e. towards the latter end of the 4th year of Claudius; so that this famine foretold by Agabus happened upon the 5th, 6th, and 7th years of Claudius, as says Valesius on Euseb. II. 12. Of this famine also, and queen Helena’s supplies, and her monument, see Moses Churenensis, p. 144, 145, where it is observed in the notes that Pausanias mentions that her monument also.
Mat 23:15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.
Mat 23:15 ERV "It will be bad for you teachers of the law and you Pharisees! You are hypocrites. You travel across the seas and across different countries to find one person who will follow your ways. When you find that person, you make him worse than you are. And you are so bad that you belong in hell!
The new testament didn’t create a new set of rules. Jesus showed us how to really live the law of Moses in spirit, but this doesn’t mean abandoning the letter of the law.
Christ saves. To maintain your salvation, you must keep the law of Moses.
The sabbath, the new moons, the dietary laws, etc. they weren’t ever a controversy. If something is established and there is silence going forward regarding it, then it never goes away.
You have to keep the law through christ to be saved. There are steps to salvation.
When the apostles went to the Jews, they knew what they were repenting from; the only difference was to also believe in Jesus.
Christianity today teaches repentance from sin without actually turning from sin.
Believe in Christ & Repent from sin -> Have fruits of repentance and keep the law in Christ
Connect Acts 15:1 with Matthew 1:21. This describes what Jesus came to save people from.
Belief in Jesus blots/cancels out PAST sins.
Now that they have been converted, Acts 21 - after the intro.
Peter says:
  1. Saved by Christ
  2. Save yourselves
3:28:17
James gave the Gentiles four precepts to start them off with. And he said they would learn the rest.
Christians today say that nothing that you do can affect your salvation. Even though in Acts 2, Peter told them to save yourselves from this untoward generation.
So, first Peter tells you that you have to be saved by Christ. Then he turns around saying save yourselves. That means you gotta do something.
This is the analogy: Christians see Jesus as this lifeguard that keeps jumping in the pool while you're drowning and keeps pulling you out even though he was the one who told you to not get in the pool in the first place. The Bible describes Jesus as you drowning and he shows you what to do to save yourself, by giving you the life preserver. So if someone asks you, you would be right to say that Jesus saved me because he was the one that threw you the life preserver, but he made me participate in my own salvation. I had to play a role in it. That is the part that Christians miss.
Most christians don’t like history unless it's backing up something they are trying to prove.
The first christians were Jews. Christianity was first really embraced in Acts.
Most christians don’t read their Bible.
The first christians kept the law of Moses. They didn’t interpret that it should be done away with.
Christians today have reinterpreted that the law would stay till heaven and earth pass to be the opposite.
The christianity that christians practice today is TAINTED CHRISTIANITY!
If the first christians kept the law, then why are you the odd one out and not following it? Christians today are so deceived!
Mat 5:17-19 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. (18) For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. (19) Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Acts of the apostles=actions of the apostles
Mat 5:17-19 CEV Don't suppose that I came to do away with the Law and the Prophets. I did not come to do away with them, but to give them their full meaning. (18) Heaven and earth may disappear. But I promise you that not even a period or comma will ever disappear from the Law. Everything written in it must happen. (19) If you reject even the least important command in the Law and teach others to do the same, you will be the least important person in the kingdom of heaven. But if you obey and teach others its commands, you will have an important place in the kingdom.
Mat 5:17-19 ERV "Don't think that I have come to destroy the Law of Moses or the teaching of the prophets. I have come not to destroy their teachings but to give full meaning to them. (18) I assure you that nothing will disappear from the law until heaven and earth are gone. The law will not lose even the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter until it has all been done. (19) "A person should obey every command in the law, even one that does not seem important. Whoever refuses to obey any command and teaches others not to obey it will be the least important in God's kingdom. But whoever obeys the law and teaches others to obey it will be great in God's kingdom.
Least in the kingdom doesn’t mean sweeping floors…
Mat 5:17-19 BBE Let there be no thought that I have come to put an end to the law or the prophets. I have not come for destruction, but to make complete. (18) Truly I say to you, Till heaven and earth come to an end, not the smallest letter or part of a letter will in any way be taken from the law, till all things are done. (19) Whoever then goes against the smallest of these laws, teaching men to do the same, will be named least in the kingdom of heaven; but he who keeps the laws, teaching others to keep them, will be named great in the kingdom of heaven.
Luk 16:16-17 The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it. (17) And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.
Did anyone in the early church do this “tongue talking”? Everyone is following MAN MADE RELIGIONS!
If the church is titled on an event or doctrine, something is wrong.
Jesus was echoing how the old testament law was interpreted.
Psa 111:7-8 The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure. (8) They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness.
Isa 40:6-8 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: (7) The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. (8) The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
Psa 119:160 Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.
Christians don’t understand that God uses finite and infinite things to write things; idioms.
Jer 31:35-37 Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name: (36) If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the LORD, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever. (37) Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.
These are HEBREW IDIOMS AND EUPHEMISMS. He used permanent things as an analogy
Mat 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. (19) Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: (20) Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Acts 2 is after Jesus went to heaven.
Act 2:1-2 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. (2) And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Deu 16:16 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty:
The apostles are following the Jewish laws and the Jewish holy days!
Pentecostal churches don’t even know what Pentecost is and don’t even keep Pentecost!
The average christian rejects the ceremonial laws (like the feast of weeks)!!!
John and Peter and everyone would REBUKE people of today.
Act 2:3-5 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. (4) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (5) And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
Act 2:10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
Peter and the others told the people that Jesus is the Messiah
Act 5:33-39 When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them. (34) Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space; (35) And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men. (36) For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought. (37) After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed. (38) And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: (39) But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.
Act 6:8-11 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people. (9) Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen. (10) And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake. (11) Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.
Act 6:13-14 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law: (14) For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.
Paul was baptized by a christian.
Act 22:9-13 And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me. (10) And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do. (11) And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus. (12) And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there, (13) Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him.
Why would the law be a standard here?
“Modern christians” sound just like the pagans and enemies back then.
Paul started out against the true faith. He embraced Jesus and followed the law.
Act 9:8-10 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. (9) And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink. (10) And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.
The first christians were devout to following the law and Jesus.
Modern day christians are not the example, THE APOSTLES ARE!
Act 20:15-16 And we sailed thence, and came the next day over against Chios; and the next day we arrived at Samos, and tarried at Trogyllium; and the next day we came to Miletus. (16) For Paul had determined to sail by Ephesus, because he would not spend the time in Asia: for he hasted, if it were possible for him, to be at Jerusalem the day of Pentecost.
Act 18:19-21 And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews. (20) When they desired him to tarry longer time with them, he consented not; (21) But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.
First christians kept the Law of Moses for their whole lives.
Act 27:7-9 And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone; (8) And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea. (9) Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them,
Acts 27:9 NIV Much time had been lost, and sailing had already become dangerous because by now it was after the Day of Atonement. So Paul warned them,
Acts 27:9 CSB By now much time had passed, and the voyage was already dangerous. Since the Day of Atonement was already over, Paul gave his advice
Act 27:9 GNB We spent a long time there, until it became dangerous to continue the voyage, for by now the Day of Atonement was already past. So Paul gave them this advice:
Lev 16:3-6 Thus shall Aaron come into the holy place: with a young bullock for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering. (4) He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on. (5) And he shall take of the congregation of the children of Israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering, and one ram for a burnt offering. (6) And Aaron shall offer his bullock of the sin offering, which is for himself, and make an atonement for himself, and for his house.
Lev 16:29 And this shall be a statute for ever unto you: that in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, ye shall afflict your souls, and do no work at all, whether it be one of your own country, or a stranger that sojourneth among you:
Lev 16:29 ERV "This law will always continue for you: On the tenth day of the seventh month, you must not eat food. You must not do any work. None of the travelers or foreigners living in your land can do any work either.
Lev 16:29 CEV On the tenth day of the seventh month of each year, you must go without eating to show sorrow for your sins, and no one, including foreigners who live among you, is allowed to work.
Paul kept the day of atonement while sailing on a boat.
God sent Paul to a hebrew that was devout to the Law of Moses and a believer.
One faith between both Jews and christians! A true christian follows the law and believes in Jesus.
Act 21:17-26 And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly. (18) And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present. (19) And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry. (20) And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law: (21) And they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs. (22) What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come. (23) Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which have a vow on them; (24) Them take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things, whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law. (25) As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication. (26) Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment of the days of purification, until that an offering should be offered for every one of them.
This shows that everyone in the faith was following the Law of Moses!
It didn’t conflict with their faith in Jesus.
2024.05.26 14:03 LetterGrouchy6053 The beginning of a brave new world?
This is how far Trump has slid into the cesspool of derangement; Charlie Kirk, of the ultra-conservative Turning Point Memo is either making fun of him or is so terrified of another Trump presidency he is being drawn toward liberalism, or at least rationality.
Check this out -- Italics mine.
Hello it’s the weekend. This is The Weekender ☕️
It appears that in his quest to find a running mate who might pull in a few Republican voters who aren’t thrilled about voting for him again in 2024, Donald Trump has moved on from the dog killer who lies about meeting with North Korean regime leader Kim Jong Un.
He’s reportedly now considering, among a handful of other options, the senator who thinks those protesting Israel’s actions in Gaza should have their “skin ripped off.”
That’s not the most notably unhinged remark or action from Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) in recent years, it’s just the last thing I wrote about him.
According to new reporting from the New York Times, Cotton is on Trump’s shortlist of potential vice-presidential candidates. Others include Sens. Marco Rubio (R-FL), J.D. Vance (R-OH), Tim Scott (R-SC) and his former HUD director Ben Carson. Trump is reportedly interested in Cotton as he seeks out a Veep who “would carry relatively little risk of creating unwanted distractions.”
So the guy who sent President Biden a letter in 2021 warning that Beijing was planning on using the 2022 Winter Olympics as an opportunity to gather and harvest DNA from American athletes to breed “biologically enhanced soldiers” seems like a good fit.
Looking for sans serif font recommendations with some quirks.
So I'm working on some personal branding and subsequently a rebrand of my YouTube channel as I'm hoping to start up an LLC here this summer and want to have a bit more of a refined branding style. I'm looking for a sans serif font and think I've narrowed down my choices to these three, but I'm having issues with deciding what tradeoffs to deal with. Does anybody know of any fonts that meet all my requirements written in green?
While I really like the simple geometric shapes of Poppins I've started using fonts with lower x-heights and Jost has some nice shapes to it, but the double-story 'a' feels like a major dealbreaker for me. I'd appreciate any help you folks can provide!
2024.05.22 23:06 KarlosHungus36 Lorraine vs Norma; the two hitmen
Lorraine vs Norma; the two hitmen
Lorraine alt Norma. P5 they both first appear in the S3 story, both have the same beige 'cheap' phone at their work spaces. {Lorraine, dark hair and painted nails, black computer monitor with blue background, links to Rita/Constance, she alt has the blue box (also has a blue Blackberry); scene after Lorraine is Constance with Garland's body; P6 Lorraine "three bodies?!" 3 link to ridges or 'steps'/levels of the blue box? she inputs #2 via the Blackberry, linked to the device in Argentina that shrinks/changes at the end of the part, when MrC sends a different message (#1?), alt the box itself? alt detonates if Lorraine puts in wrong number?}.
-Norma's home - Never shown or alluded to in any season; Norma & Ed visual with Phyllis & Bill; she blends into the position of 'woman at home,' alt Doris (Bill alt Frank the husband, Mack's old partner in MD, his prints alt found at crime scene P1); she's killed by the hit, alt "this is Walter's gun"; MrC drives a Mercedes P1 presumably George's, but Walter also makes drives to Twin Peaks about business {Norma alt Lorraine, Back To The Future, Ed alt Crispin Glover (quirky haircut, sits at the diner counter), Bobby alt Marty or 'Bobby McFly' (asks for Shelly P13 alt Shue), P11 BTTF theme sync (boy alt on hoverboard) and van & car alt DeLorean; Norma looks more like Shue, alt version she blends with original Jennifer Parker (alt Shelly P5, two stand together), 'Becky' alt to 'Bobby' the son. {Walter also alt Joe, hitman in MD; who sat at the booth with Diane like Norma and Walter}.
Norma's home never alluded to; blends with Phyllis in role of wife at home. {Walter alt a hitman}
Back to the Future links ('Lorraine' and alt 'Bobby McFly') (volume up)
P13, MrC goes to some warehouse in Montana and takes on boss Renzo. Leo Johnson links to Montana - Shelly thought he was in Butte early in the Pilot, and he had been arrested in Hungry Horse. Add 'Lo' to Renzo = Lorenzo (with letters Leo inside). Later in the same part (13), Norma tells Walter about her ingredients, "all my ingredients are natural, organic, local." Local, Organic = LO + Renzo = 'Lorenzo' {link to Lorenzo's oil, a liquid solution made of various ingredients (chemicals) and prepared in oil, alt to Norma's pie ingredients; could also be linked to synthetic motor oil}. Norma the boss at RR like Renzo (Lorraine alt Lorenzo!). So boss Renzo an alt Leo, and association with boss Norma, perhaps alt named 'Lorraine' (MrC pulls his truck into the warehouse, alt a car service station? oil change link, Leo alt the owner? P9 dirty truck alt car wash "And the boss don't mind sometimes if you act the fool"). Renzo's sidekick is Ray who MrC comes for in P13; S1 Mike & Bobby drive at night to meet Leo in the woods (tracking devices on the rental car P8, link to P2 MrC was told by the caller that he met with Major Briggs alt Leo, alt was tracked and didn't know it unlike the P8 version? Darya alive and waiting for a call in alt version vs Darya called by Ray and killed by MrC?), alt Ray & MrC P8 in the woods; so P13 Renzo is alt Leo and Ray is alt Mike, MrC is alt Bobby? {three tracking devices, link to "three bodies!?" Lorraine, finding out presumably about the car explosion and dead car thieves; alt scenario - Dougie's cheap Ford was driven by MrC? ("terrible car" link to "terrible business at the bank" vault explosion) To a meeting with Leo? Nuclear explosion P8 after MrC and Ray's scenes; alt a bomb in the glove compartment detonates when opened, alt the safe deposit box? '#1' scenario because a '#2' visible on radio display in P8, corresponds to Lorraine sending '2' text from Blackberry? #1 the box is opened & explosion, #2 it 'shrinks/changes?'}
Mike & Bobby meet Leo in woods alt Ray & MrC P8.
Pilot, Bobby leaving the RR with Shelly, says to Norma "I'll see you in my dreams." Norma "not if I see you first." Link to Ray, tells MrC that he was told he could 'get out and stay out' (of prison) if he killed MrC first. Ray and Darya were working for Jeffries on a hit on Cooper, Ray got phone calls, P2 he calls Darya from prison "I got another call from Jeffries" [Alt - 'I got another call from Judy?']. P15 MrC in another motel room at the conv store, has a conversion with Jeffries that ends as MrC is yelling about Judy, the black phone ringing, then he's transported outside to the phone booth on a call. MrC blends identities with Ray (alt was on the phone with Judy)? 'Judy' (alt Jeffries; and alt Lorraine) in contact with two hitmen about a hit on Cooper (or a single hitman alt MrC ordered to kill two, like Ike in the motel room? plural Jeffries = two hitmen, singular Judy = one hitman). Early P5, Lorraine on the phone with Gene who is with fair-haired companion, the job is to apparently to kill Douglas Jones. Lorraine alt Norma? Same phone at her booth, stationary and misc doodads similar to Lorraine's desk. Norma and Bobby's dialogue in the Pilot ("not if I see you first") alt to Ray talking about the 'prison thing' alt it was arranged by Norma (she's alt the warden, who set up the hit on MrC... P7 Norma is shown after the warden watches Ray and MrC leave prison; so 'getting out and staying out' linked to Norma, alt she is holding prisoners? link to Buella). The two hitmen (P3) talk about meeting up later at 'Mikey's' - alt the RR diner, Norma alt 'Mikey' the owneboss? (Mikey alt 'Murphy' the warden?). So MrC is alt Bobby in P13, set up by the boss, Ray is alt Mike. S1, Jacques was the middle man in a drug running operation from Canada, Roadhouse Bar his 'station,' Bobby ran drugs for him etc; Norma alt Jacques? (Renault's cousin said the Renault family has owned the Roadhouse for 57 years alt Norma tells Walter it's been the RR diner for over 50 years). Mike & Bobby the runners {pitted against each other in one scenario}; so who is in charge of Norma (possibly alt Judy)? Red P6 is the drug boss; Red alt Richard? (suggesting Richard Horne P6 has a different name with Red in one version - Pete? drives a similar truck as Pete Martell; Red threatens him 'if you fuck me over...' link to Laura's corpse 'if you turn me over'). 'Richard' the top boss, over Judy (gives her the job, alt Todd P2?). Richard is paired with Linda, having an affair with Judy? alt Chantal vs Darya in P2? Darya alt Linda (in bed, MrC alt Mickey returning with her mail alt medicine from the pharmacy) (Chantal with Hutch, alt Darya with Ray, two hitmen working for a boss etc; scenarios in flux between characters - boss and wife jealous of his employee vs husband/wife team work for boss). {Darya and Ray hitmen alt two hitmen who get calls from Lorraine alt Jeffries (or Judy), Darya alt the fair-haired sniper shooter in P3? (wears similar bracelets), at 'Mikey's' alt the motel room in P2, in flux with MrC (he's alt Triple H, wrestler fair-haired (alt Mickey Rourke), in motel room 6 alt homeroom 106, where there were three Hs - Hayward, Horne, Hurley; fair haired Mike Nelson was a wrestler, shown after the Triple H crew by the lockers)}.
MrC link to Triple H wrestler. In motel room #6, link to homeroom 106, Hayward/Horne/Hurley. Darya one of two hitmen alt the P3 sniper shooter; in flux with MrC P2.
-Frank P12 "Interesting, we're just opening an old case involving Agent Cooper" and Hawk to Sarah ("some old cases popped up and I thought about you"), P2 MrC opens a literal case on the table in the motel, a briefcase, he's alt Frank? "Phillip" the caller alt "Palmer?" Palmer, the shot caller? {shot caller - Babe Ruth -- Beth? Maddy's mother, probably Leland's sister, maiden name Palmer - 'Beth Palmer' (alt looks exactly like Sarah, since Maddy looks exactly like Laura? P13 Sarah or alt-Sarah watches a black and white boxing match on a loop from the 60s, alt Maris hitting record breaking hitting home run? 60 and 61 link to 64, Beatles When I'm 64? 'Palmer' replaced at 62-63? link to hit and run in P6 (at about 33 mins into P6, alt during year 63; then right at 40:00 (corresponding to '64') Dougie exits the elevator to Lucky 7 lobby, alt into the Palmer house)? Rodd on the way to the hit-and-run scene P6, alt hasn't missed a ballgame in 75 years, on the way to ballpark alt actual park); shot caller Ruth alt the pointing statue; building in background alt NYC penthouse? Tracey alt works at Szymon's? brings up coffees} {Walter alt a hitman, leaves RR diner P15 continued via MrC driving to the conv store, alt he shoots Ed in back of head from behind; Walter has a tablet in P13 (alt to Ed ordering a 'cyanide tablet' in P15?) alt another blue box, black and white instead of blue? MrC hitman link to Phyllis P2, she's alt Norma; link to Joe the hitman in MD} {Norma in P11, gunshots come into diner, Norma points and tells Toad to turn the lights off, she's alt the shot caller; alt baseball comes in through window? Norma alt 'Beth Palmer'? diner alt the Palmer house? Earlier P11, kids throwing a baseball alt across the street; Roger Maris hits or throws ball into house, link to Roger that works for Todd, who was instructed to tell some woman that she had the job in P2, Sarah's part, and to give her two stacks on cash, alt two balls? Link to Charlie, Audrey tells him "you have no balls" he's like Todd behind a desk, alt Sarah gets Charlie's balls? link to angels, alt wings; some link to the angels flanking Laura and the lady in the radiator? 'balls' in her cheeks; Todd's office alt the Fireman's theater; two balls alt 60 and 61, add to 121, Nadine's drape runner shop is 112, Diane alt Nadine (rearranged letters) is 121? Her apartment P7 on the first floor (similar architecture as Fireman's place) in 121?; P7 on the plane "judge lest ye be judged" link to Aaron Judge, who hit 63? Adds to 9, link to Elk's #9 bar, alt Sarah vs trucker (alt Diane or Dougie, with two balls, defeated?)
Shot caller 'Babe Ruth' link to statue? Bushnell mentions P11 then they pass it.
Charlie has no balls, alt Duncan Todd who gave two stacks of money (his balls alt) to some woman for a job; link to angels and Laura or the two 'balls' on the cheeks of the Radiator Lady?
-P6 Ike brutally kills Lorraine and two others, then Richard parks the truck in a field. P15 MrC driving to Convenience Store after Norma's happy ending scene. Alt - MrC was in the beige rental car (as 'Richard') - first gets out prison, goes straight to the RR and kills Norma (and two others), drives off? Blends with hitman Joe, MD who killed 3 people in the office (for Ed's "famous black book" alt Norma's 'famous pies'), one is heavy set woman alt Heidi? His next destination the Palmer house? {Corresponding to the hit on Camilla; 'Sarah Palmer' on same level as 'Diane Selwyn?'}. Palmer the shot caller was running interference in the drug running operation? Diane alt 'Palmer' and Camilla alt 'Judy?'
-Lorraine Bracco. Talks slow, like Shelly P11 "I'll loan you the money" then Bobby (alt Lorenzo) "I'll loan you the money" (McFly alt Maguire, 'show me the money' alt). Goodfellas, Ray Liotta link to P13 (he's a loose cannon in Goodfellas, not as bad as his character in Something Wild (1986), alt abusive husband, blends with Frank Booth, Blue Velvet (1986), "you fuck" P13). {Sopranos link with P11 scene; shot into RR and light out link with sudden ending}.
-P2 MrC to Ray "I want that information." P8 again, MrC demands information as he has gun to Ray. Information alt indication(s), Ruth 'had indications' that if her and Bill went to a certain place at a certain time they would get in contact with the major; P8 MrC to Ray "you probably want to go to that place they call the farm" alt the zone? Ray alt Ruth. Bill was Ruth's sidekick, arrested, alt Darya (Ray's sidekick)? (alt crying in the interrogation room, interrogated by Det Harrison alt?). Ruth and Garland connected around the zone, alt Ray combined with someone at the farm, an animal? Pig? In bed P1, alt 'pretty girl' in mulholland drive, farmer alt cowboy comes to wake up in the barn. Mr. Blodgett link? Andy takes pictures, has reaction, alt the cameraman in P1 (and alt Albert P11). Bill alt the farmer (Mr. Blodgett; alt Bob? Dave his old HS friend alt Mike?).
Andy Pilot vs cameraman P1. Links Laura's corpse with dual corpse; alt in the barn?
2024.05.21 15:55 HeheheBlah How is time perceived in Telugu?
I came across this Quora answer for "Why does Kerala Government impose an economically worthless Malayalam in Kerala schools instead of making it as an optional language because a Malayali cannot get lucrative employment by learning Malayalam?" from this post.
The answer is a lengthy one, and may seem irrelevant to the title "How is time perceived in Telugu?", but please keep reading, I have my questions at the end of the post...
This question reminds me of a story of the Roman emperor Vespasian. One day, an inventor visited the emperor and showed him the blueprint of a mechanism that could transport columns and beams to a construction site quickly and without any manual labor. This brilliant machine could've kickstarted industrial revolution 1700 years before it actually happened. But much to the inventor's shock, Vespasian turned him down, saying “my people need jobs, our slaves need jobs. If the machine does all the work, our people will be jobless. Our slaves would get free time to organize themselves and would start revolts”.
Vespasian feared that the new technology was ‘economically worthless', as it would make people and slaves jobless and send the country into total chaos. In short, he was technologically shortsighted. The inability to foresee what technology could bring to his people in the long run pulled him down. He was deluded by the fragile nature of the economy and had no idea how to rebuild it if this revolutionary mechanism would be allowed to operate.
This was the reason why ancient Rome was never industrialized, despite having a lot of excellent inventors and engineers. Those in power were worried about the unemployment a sudden revolutionary idea would create and failed to accept how beneficial this would be for the people in the long run.
The reason for narrating this story is that it is remarkably similar to the dilemma mentioned in the question. Vespasian thought, “allocating resources to inventive technology instead of manual labor is economically worthless since people and slaves won't get lucrative jobs”.
Replace ‘manual labor' by ‘English' and ‘inventive technology' by ‘Malayalam', and you get our question.
“Allocating resources to English instead of Malayalam is economically worthless since people and slaves won't get lucrative jobs”.
Likewise, English persists as the language of official usage for most jobs not because Malayalam is incompetent or inefficient, but because the current ‘system' revolves around English. That makes Malayalam seem like a burden on students, with no economic worth. An engineer who does all his learning from foreign textbooks and uses English terminology has no lucrative use of Malayalam. A software developer who needs to know all computer-related terms in English has no use of Malayalam. The same goes for an accountant, a doctor, a clerk, and pretty much all ‘white collar' jobs you can think of. Even those who might benefit from learning Malayalam like historians or linguists might consider English infinitely more useful since most of the written books and research work on those fields are in English. There is enough reason for people to think that spending government resources for teaching Malayalam is worthless like how Vespasian thought that appreciating technology was worthless.
But time proved Vespasian wrong, although by sheer luck. Christianity replaced Paganism as the dominant religion in Europe. Since slavery is forbidden in Christianity, European kingdoms started banning it. Feudalism and class based labor also started declining as the plague wiped out significant fractions of each class and as the military shifted from armies to professional fighters, thereby weakening the nobility’s hold on power. With the lack of a powerful ruling class to impose and manage heavy manual labor, the stage was finally set for a technological revolution and the industrial revolution finally began in Europe, 1700 years after Vespasian.
Some of you might be doubtful of comparing the case of English vs Malayalam with manual labor vs automated machines. Are they even comparable in the first place?
Industrial revolution made life easier for people because it freed people from the heavy manual labor and made it possible for them to spend more time for their personal development. Likewise, teaching in Malayalam instead of English would make people engage more with their personal and cultural lives. Teaching lessons of science and history in English forbids Malayalis from using them in their lives. This is because these two languages are different at a fundamental level since they belong to two different language families. If you are a Malayalam speaker and you learn science and history in English, it'll be impossible for you to use them in your daily lives because you conceptualize the world around you in completely different ways while you speak or think in these two languages. In linguistics, this changing of cognitive metaphors while using different languages is known as code-switching.
Let me share my own experience. I studied in Malayalam medium in primary and high school. Hence my way of understanding science and history is through Malayalam's (or Dravidian) cognitive metaphors. Those who study in English or other related languages like German, Persian or Hindi would use the Indo-European cognitive metaphors. Once I started reading books in English, I started to realize how different these are.
Let us take time for example.
How an English speaker views time
Speakers of Indo-European languages like English and Hindi conceptualize time as a long line through which you move at a steady rate. Your past is the segment behind you and your future lies in front of you. Time is a one-dimensional straight line in Indo-European languages (the only exceptions are Italic and Hellenic branches. They see time as a growing volume instead of a long line).
This is why these languages describe the duration of events as either “long” or “short”, which represent the length of a line segment.
Consider the statement “I've been waiting for a long time”.
The italicised part, translated into different Indo-European languages would be:
English (Germanic) : “ long time”
Sanskrit (Indo-Aryan) : “dīrghakāla”
Hindi (Indo-Aryan) : “lambi der”
Persian (Iranian) : “moddat zamân tulâni”
Lithuanian (Baltic) : “ilgas laikas”
Irish (Celtic) : “tamall fada”
All those words indicated with bold letters are synonym for “long”. The same could be observed for events with less duration. All these languages use the adjective “short”, just as what you might expect from their way of perceiving time as a horizontal line.
Hence many words describing events associated with time like emotions in these languages are derived from roots that mean “long” or “short”. The English words “longing” (from ‘long') and “hope” (ultimately from Greek ‘kúptō' (to bend forward) ) are examples.
(By the way, there are two slightly different variants of the Indo-European concept of time. This video explains it beautifully with a riddle)
.
How a Malayalam speaker views time
Speakers of Dravidian languages like Malayalam have a much more sophisticated three-dimensional view of time. For Malayalis, the passage of time is vertically upwards, not to the front. Also, time isn't a single line here. Multiple vertical lines of progression of time arise from the two dimensional patches of land. In Malayalam, this two-dimensional ‘area' or patch of time is known as “pāḍu” (പാട്) which literally means “a bounded area” (hence the adjectives like “orupāḍu” and “appāḍe”). Related events that take place at a particular location are visualized as multiple vertical lines growing from that patch. A different place or a different person would be visualized as a different patch with its own vertical growths.
You have to be a Dravidian speaker to fully understand this. Imagine a set of events.
If it is the same event occurring over and over again, it is perceived as looping around a small vertical segment over and over again. In Malayalam language, this corresponds to the adjective ഒത്തിരി (ottiri) - literally “many turns/loops” (root ‘tiru' - turn/spin).
If that set of events represent a growing process or emotion, it is perceived as a line that grows vertically. In Malayalam, the adjective in this case is ഏറെ (ēṟe) - literally “climbing up/ascending” or വളരെ (vaḷare) -literally “growing upwards”.
If those events are concurrent yet different, they are perceived as multiple vertical growths originating from the same patch on the plane. In Malayalam, the adjective is ഒരുപാടു (orupāḍu) - literally “an area of” (‘pāḍu' - a bounded area).
If those events are completely independent, then they exist in different patches and the adjective പല (pala) is used.
In short, a Malayalam speaker has four different ways of translating something like “a long time”, depending on how the person spent that time. If they spent that time by counting sea waves, they might say “ottiri nēram”. If the time was spent, say, by building a sand castle, they might say “ēṟe nēram”, and if they were doing many different things, they might say “orupāḍu nēram”.
This is true in the case of other Dravidian languages as well. For example, in Kannada, the word ಪಿರಿ (piri) - heightened/advanced - (now mostly displaced by the loanword ಬಹಳ (bahaḷa)) would correspond to Malayalam “ēṟe” and ತುಂಬಾ (tumbā) - literally, a crowd of/amassed - would correspond to Malayalam “orupāḍu”. A Kannada speaker would say “bahaḷa samaya” for the time spent for building a sand castle and “tumbā samaya” for the time spent for doing multiple things
(However, in some Dravidian languages, this way of visualizing time has been replaced by the Indo-European linear time because of Sanskrit imperialism. But that is a different story.)
In short, as a Malayalam speaker, I conceptualize my entire life in front of me. My brain visualizes all the places I've been to and the people I've interacted with as different patches (pāḍu), each one having multiple vertical segments that grow or add a new one each time I visit again. However, when I speak or learn in English or Hindi, it is completely changed and I'm forced to visualize time and events to be part of a long line with my past behind me and my future in front of me. This switching of conceptual metaphors is known as code-switching in cognitive linguistics.
This means that I as a bilingual describe an event that happened the day before yesterday as “two days back” in English and “raṇḍụ nāḷ munpu” in Malayalam. Here, “munpu” means “frontside” and back means, backside. For an English speaker, the past lies as the line segment behind them (back), and for a Malayalam speaker, the past is a patch that is much further to the front than the one they are in at present. Notice how the concept of past flips completely with the change of language.
Think of English's concept of time as a long railway track with a train (representing the person) passing through it and Malayalam’s concept of time as a sugarcane field with multiple patches of land having a bunch of upwards growing stems.
The reason for describing all this is to highlight how different the perception of events are in these two languages. And remember that we have considered only time. Nearly all abstract concepts are visualized differently in unrelated languages. A Dravidian’s world is completely different from that of an Indo-European.
Now let us come back to the original question. What happens if a Malayalam speaker is given education only in English? The result is, they could never use the science and history they learn in their personal and cultural lives. Personal and cultural aspects would be pictured in one way and things that they learn at school would be visualized in the other way. This means that all those things would be useful only for earning money or doing research and they would be useless for their personal growth and the cultural development of the society.
In fact, this is exactly what is happening in Kerala now. All those highly educated people conceptualize the world in the Indo-European way thanks to being educated in English or sanskrit-imposed Malayalam while the common people view the world with the classic Dravidian metaphors. This stunts the growth in cultural, political, religious and scientific fileds in Kerala.
Not to mention that English's concept of time is much too simple and inefficient for describing things and when it comes to fields intricately connected to time like history or biological evolution, it often fails miserably. I recently wrote an an answer on how the public perception of evolution is incorrect and horribly misleading. In fact, the visualization of time as a simple long line is one of the reasons for this. This metaphor is much too simple to handle a complex probabilistic theory like evolution.
However, for someone who learned evolution in Malayalam, it would be a much more sophisticated process and it would be easier to visualize it without being misguided. Learning in Malayalam is much more efficient and productive in this case. I consider myself lucky for having had most of my schooling in Malayalam medium thanks to which I routinely apply the things I've learned in all aspects of my life.
So, to summarize,
Malayalam being economically worthless is a reality of the present, but it is not so because Malayalam is inefficient or unproductive in usage. As we saw here, educating in Malayalam is actually necessary for the learned things to be put into practice in life and society. It is just that the current system uses English and a total change would require nothing less than a revolution. Nevertheless, the cost of not educating kids in Malayalam is huge, as it leads to a stagnation in cultural, religious, political, and scientific aspects of Kerala.
--END OF THE ANSWER--
I wanted to share this answer here too and wanted to discuss about its points (specifically how different people view time).
How Telugu language and Telugus view time? Does it differ by dialects? Did Sanskrit influence this part of Telugu? What other things does Telugu perceive in a different manner compared to other languages?
This means that I as a bilingual describe an event that happened the day before yesterday as “two days back” in English and “raṇḍụ nāḷ munpu” in Malayalam. Here, “munpu” means “frontside” and back means, backside.
The one aspect I recognised which I use in Telugu like "rendu dinalu mundu" (Two days ago).
For example, in Kannada, the word ಪಿರಿ (piri) - heightened/advanced - (now mostly displaced by the loanword ಬಹಳ (bahaḷa)) would correspond to Malayalam “ēṟe” and ತುಂಬಾ (tumbā) - literally, a crowd of/amassed - would correspond to Malayalam “orupāḍu”. A Kannada speaker would say “bahaḷa samaya” for the time spent for building a sand castle and “tumbā samaya” for the time spent for doing multiple things
The another aspect I recognised which we use in Telugu like "chala samayam" / "chala sepu" ("tumba" in Kannada means "more")
Edit: Many people are saying time is perceived as quantity in Telugu and I too think the same, but then, why do we say "rendu dinalu mundu"? "mundu" means front as far as I know. If Telugu considers time to be a quantity, then why do we say "mundu" (front) to refer something in past. Does "mundu" have any other meaning? The same trend can be observed in Tamil and Kannada too.
Also, what are some other terms used in Telugu related to time?
🔗Stylish and Durable Civivi P01B C-Quill Pen for Safety and Convenience
https://preview.redd.it/505kfw8yjk1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=20d5bead9e38d12e7a3d17042c2c09037153a345
I had the pleasure of trying out the Civivi P01B C-Quill Pen Black, and I must say, it's a real treasure. The moment I held it, I was impressed by its sleek, sophisticated design. The pen is lightweight yet sturdy, making it a great companion for daily use.
One of my favorite features was the smooth, comfortable grip, which felt perfect for both right- and left-handed writers. The bold ink flow was impressive, and I appreciated the fact that it's refillable, meaning I won't need to buy a new pen anytime soon.
However, there was one aspect that could be improved - the clip, which seemed a bit fragile and didn't hold onto my pocket as securely as I would have liked. But overall, this pen is a steal for the price, and it certainly stands out among other pens in the market.
🔗Civivi CP-02B Coronet Titanium Spinner Pen with Glass-Breaker Tip
https://preview.redd.it/s5e3zhdxjk1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a8f1428210f4960cc73b6a40bf1a5aeee85f5f05
Lately, I've been using the Civivi CP-02B Coronet Spinner Black Pen as my EDC (every day carry) pen. This sleek black pen is a true marvel for a spinner enthusiast. Its spinner feature is compact at 14.33mm, adding to its portability while still providing a satisfying fidget element. The main body is made of 6AL4V titanium, providing both durability and a premium feel.
The pen is surprisingly lightweight at just 28.4 grams, which makes it comfortable to hold while writing. My favorite part? The glass-breaker tip on the end. It's not just a stylish addition - it provides a functional element that one can appreciate in this day and age. There's something almost comforting about having a pen that can potentially protect you in any situation.
However, there's one downside to this pen: the clip. It's made of the same titanium material and seems a bit fragile compared to other pen clips I've used. Despite that, the Civivi CP-02B Coronet Spinner Black Pen still stands out as a solid choice for both daily use and as an emergency spinner. It's not easy to find a pen that combines both style and function, but the Civivi CP-02B does just that.
🔗Long-Lasting Civivi CIVCP01A C-Quill Pen, Grey
https://preview.redd.it/owxrjv3xjk1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5c88d9f676170fc758df3466b1694ae31c19205
I recently added the Civivi C-Quill Pen to my daily essentials, and after using it for a while, I'm quite impressed with what it has to offer. The sleek grey anodized aluminum body gives it a modern look that's perfect for my urban lifestyle. It's not just pretty, though; it's also built to last, as I found out after subjecting it to a few rough encounters without any visible damage.
One of the standout features of this pen is its practicality. Whether I'm scribbling notes at my desk, jotting down ideas during a brainstorming session, or signing documents at the office, the C-Quill Pen has proven to be a reliable and efficient tool. Its fine point ensures smooth and precise writing, and the strong clip makes it easy to attach to various surfaces, so I never misplace it.
While I've had a positive experience with the C-Quill Pen, it's not without its minor drawbacks. It might be a bit too subtle for those looking for a pen with more vibrant colors. Also, there's one area that could use some improvement: the size of the pen might be a bit too small for some hands, making it slightly awkward to grip.
Overall, though, the Civivi C-Quill Pen has earned its spot in my EDC (Everyday Carry) bag. It's a stylish, durable, and practical choice for anyone looking for a high-quality pen that won't break the bank. Just remember to tighten the snap closure properly to prevent ink leaks, and you'll be all set for a smooth writing experience.
A few weeks ago, I decided to try the TWSBI Eco Fountain Pen and let me tell you, it was love at first use! This pen is a sleek and stylish writing instrument that's perfect for those who appreciate a mix of functionality and affordability. One of the things that stood out to me right away was the clear, transparent barrel that allows you to see the inner workings of the pen and monitor your ink levels. The pen is a piston filler, which means you can fill it with your preferred ink color.
Not only does it look great, but it also feels great in your hand thanks to its comfortable grip section. The pen has a cap that posts, and it writes wonderfully with its stainless steel nib. The highlight of the pen is its sleek design that combines style and functionality, as well as its affordability. The only downside is that it may not be the best option for those who prefer a thinner nib, but overall, I'm quite impressed with this pen.
🔗TWSBI ECO-T Fountain Pen: Saffron Extra Fine - Smooth, Lubricated Writing Experience
https://preview.redd.it/0w62neyhkk1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=03b192d4cb58ef05e719c20af50cf733ec03c812
I recently got my hands on the TWSBI ECO-T Fountain Pen in Saffron Extra Fine and it's been an absolute delight to use. The solid brass construction gives it a sturdy feel, while the piston-filling mechanism makes refilling hassle-free.
I particularly enjoy the smoothness when writing, the pen flows effortlessly on the page. The pen also comes with a tool and silicone grease, which is quite helpful in re-lubricating the piston if needed. Another standout feature is the inner cap that ensures a perfect seal and prevents my ink from drying out.
I love the fact that this pen is available in five different nib sizes, making it a perfect fit for everyone. The gift box it comes in is a thoughtful touch, making it a great present for any occasion. Overall, I'm very pleased with my TWSBI ECO-T and don't see myself putting it down any time soon.
🔗Luxury Brass Fountain Pen for Daily Writing
The Civilization pen by IWI is a piece of history in the palm of your hand. Crafted from the same brass used in ancient civilizations, this pen oozes class and sophistication, making it an ideal writing instrument for daily use. Its hexagonal body, inspired by the strength and wealth of past eras, and the castle engraved at one end are both visually striking and a nod to the societal structures of yesteryears.
The Civilization fountain pen, a product of German precision, comes equipped with a Bock Extra Fine nib, perfect for a wide array of tasks - be it note-keeping, daily writing, or even drawing and architecture. And it's as comfortable to use as it is beautiful to look at, ensuring your notes are taken in style.
However, nothing in this pen is perfect. It does require the use of standard international cartridges or mini converters, which can be seen as an inconvenience by some users. Yet, it's a small price to pay for the elegant and historic pen design, making it a worthwhile addition to everyone's desk.
🔗Classic TWSBI Eco Black Fountain Pen - Stylish and Durable Writing Instrument
https://preview.redd.it/8eihevepjk1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a6fa13e06bc083741b6fcd141bcf6304443bf339
I recently added the TWSBI ECO Stub 1.1 to my collection of fountain pens, and I've been thoroughly pleased with the experience. The clear acrylic body makes it easy to monitor ink levels, and the smooth-writing steel nib is a pleasure to use. I appreciate the piston filling system, as it only requires bottled ink and allows for ample ink capacity.
However, I did encounter a small issue with the pen cap. It has a tendency to wobble slightly when posted onto the back of the pen. This wobbling made me concerned about the longevity of the pen, as it didn't seem to sit securely.
Overall, the TWSBI ECO Stub 1.1 has been a welcomed addition to my daily writing routine. With its sleek, industrial design and reliable writing performance, it's a great pen for both beginners and seasoned fountain pen enthusiasts alike.
🔗Scrivi Luxury Fountain Pen Set - Unlock the Power of Meaningful Expression
I recently got my hands on the Scrivi Pens Luxury Fountain Pen Set in a luscious blue hue. The first thing that struck me was its design; it's a subtle blend of timeless elegance and modern touch, with a wide-barrelled body that fits comfortably in my hand. The ink flows smoothly on the page, guided by an extra fine nib that glides effortlessly.
I must say, writing with this pen feels like a luxurious experience. The balance is perfect, and while it exudes understated confidence, it doesn't scream 'look at me'. It's like a companion on my creative journey, extending itself to make every word I write meaningful and unforgettable. It's not just a pen, it's an extension of me.
However, I did notice that refilling the ink can be a bit of a hassle. But considering the overall experience it provides, I'm more than willing to deal with a little inconvenience. Overall, the Scrivi Pens Luxury Fountain Pen Set is a beautiful fusion of classic craftsmanship and modern innovation, and it definitely lives up to its promise - unlocking the power of meaningful expression.
🔗Stainless Steel Vacuum-Filled Mini Fountain Pen - Smoke
If you're looking for a fountain pen that won't let you down, the TWSBI Vac Mini fountain pen in Smoke is the one for you. Unlike its larger siblings, this pen is a departure from the piston filler fountain pens typically found in the TWSBI lineup.
The first thing you'll notice about the TWSBI Vac Mini is its clear acrylic body. It makes checking the level of ink a breeze, and the black grip section and turning knob adds a touch of elegance. The smooth writing stainless steel nib, silver clip, and trim accents make this pen a true workhorse.
This vacuum filler pen holds a large amount of ink and fills by unscrewing the end cap, pulling it out, and then the pen fills on the downstroke. Be sure to hold the pen in the ink for several seconds after pushing the end cap in, and for best results, you should do this twice. The TWSBI Vac Mini fills with bottled ink only, and for best filling results, the TWSBI Vac 20A ink bottle is a fantastic option.
TWSBI believes that users should be able to disassemble and reassemble the pen to fully experience the traditional aspects of owning and using a fountain pen. The pen packaging includes a wrench and silicone grease, although they are not intended for immediate use. Use extra care when disassembling the pen to avoid breakage or cracking.
The TWSBI Vac Mini fountain pen in Smoke is a fantastic choice for those seeking a reliable, stylish, and easy-to-use fountain pen. Whether you're using it for everyday writing or for special occasions, this pen will not disappoint. Give it a try and see for yourself why it's a favorite among fountain pen enthusiasts!
🔗TWSBI Diamond Mini Stub Fountain Pen: Modern, Reliable, and Versatile
I recently added the TWSBI Diamond Mini Classic Fountain Pen to my daily writing routine, and let me tell you, it's a game-changer. This pen is a perfect blend of affordability and high-quality craftsmanship, making it a great addition to any stationery enthusiast's collection.
One of the most notable features of this pen is its piston filler mechanism. It's a feature typically found in much more expensive fountain pens, but TWSBI has managed to make it accessible to everyone. This system allows you to directly draw ink from the bottle without the need for cartridges or a converter, providing a seamless and mess-free experience.
The pen's design is modern and eye-catching, with a transparent body that showcases its inner workings. The faceted barrel not only adds a touch of elegance but also helps prevent the pen from rolling away when placed on a surface. I especially appreciate the fact that it's about the same height as an iPhone, making it a convenient size to carry around.
The pen's balance is impressive when posted, and the piston filling mechanism holds a decent amount of ink. However, be cautious when operating the piston while the pen is filled with ink, as it may leak.
I do have one minor complaint, which is the clip on the pen. While it's secure enough to hold the pen in place, it has a bit of side-to-side movement when opened and closed, making it feel less secure.
Overall, the TWSBI Diamond Mini Classic Fountain Pen is an excellent choice for anyone looking for an affordable and stylish fountain pen. The piston filling mechanism, modern design, and great balance make this pen a standout in my daily routine.
🔗Sleek Navy Blue Nib Fountain Pen with Durable Aluminum Grip
https://preview.redd.it/1u865iipjk1d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=641077b019a41066712ef95dd3ae86f25b99c861
I've been using the TWSBI Diamond 580ALR Fountain Pen for a while now, and I have to say, it's been an interesting ride. The thing that stands out the most is the pen's capacity - I absolutely love it. It's not every day you find a pen that can hold so much ink, and it's been a game-changer for me.
Now, let's talk about the grip. It's got a 10.4 mm diameter, which is pretty comfortable in my hand. The aluminum grip section is a cool touch, adding a bit of modern flair to this otherwise classic pen. However, the textured pattern of the grip did give me a bit of a hard time at first, but I eventually got used to it.
The pen's filling mechanism is another highlight, with a piston-filling system that's smooth and easy to use. The nib size chart is a nice touch too, making it easy to find the right size for your writing needs.
But, as with any product, there are pros and cons. The main downside I found is the inconsistency in the nibs. I've had some that are smooth and write beautifully, while others have been scratchy and hard to use. It's a bit frustrating, to be honest.
Another minor issue I encountered was with the cap. At first, it was a bit difficult to remove, requiring a bit of effort. But, after a while, it got easier.
Overall, the TWSBI Diamond 580ALR Fountain Pen is a solid choice for anyone looking for a well-made, stylish, and functional writing instrument. Just be prepared for the occasional inconsistency in the nibs.
The Civilization fountain pen can be filled with either standard international cartridges or a mini converter, offering flexibility and convenience. Overall, this pen is an exquisite piece that combines beauty and functionality, making it a worthy addition to any writer's or historian's arsenal. While some may find the pen slightly heavy, its ornate craftsmanship overshadows this minor issue. In the end, the IWI Civilization fountain pen is a testament to the beauty and resilience found in the heart of past societies, inspiring awe and admiration in anyone who holds its pen in hand.
🔗Transparent Purple TWSBI Eco Fountain Pen
I recently started my fountain pen journey, and one thing I truly appreciate is having the ability to disassemble and reassemble my pen. The TWSBI Eco Fountain Pen in Transparent Purple is a perfect fit for me in that regard. The traditional fountain pen design combined with modern aesthetics is a combination that I find quite captivating.
The clear acrylic body not only showcases the ink inside, but it also adds a touch of elegance. The silver trim and piston ink-filling system ensure a smooth writing experience. The smooth-writing steel nib is definitely a standout feature of this pen, as it glides effortlessly across the paper. It's an ideal pen for those who enjoy lettering or for those who are looking to transition from a different nib size.
One of the unique aspects of the TWSBI Eco is its disassembling feature. It is considered important by the manufacturer, as it allows users to experience the full aspects of owning and using a traditional fountain pen. The packaging for this pen is a thoughtful touch, as it includes a wrench and silicone grease for long-term care and maintenance.
However, there are a few drawbacks. The nib and feed are quite fragile, so extra care is necessary to avoid any potential damage. Also, this pen may not be the best fit for those who prefer a removable nib unit or those who enjoy interchangeable barrels and nib units.
Overall, the TWSBI Eco Fountain Pen in Transparent Purple is an excellent choice for those who appreciate the elegant combination of traditional design and modern aesthetics. Its ink-filling system, smooth-writing steel nib, and unique disassembling feature make it a valuable addition to any pen collection.
These materials not only offer a premium feel but also excellent durability for long-lasting use. You can expect your Civivi pen to withstand daily wear and tear without showing signs of wear and tear quickly.
Design and Build
The design and build of a Civivi pen are crucial factors to consider. A well-designed pen should be comfortable to use, with a sleek and ergonomic grip that fits effortlessly in your hand. The build quality should be sturdy and durable, with no loose or wobbly parts. Additionally, pay attention to the pen's overall aesthetics, as some Civivi pens feature unique designs and finishes.
Ink and Refill System
The ink and refill system of your Civivi pen play a significant role in its performance. Civivi pens typically use standard ink cartridges, which are easily accessible and affordable. Look for a pen with a reliable and easy-to-use refill system – some models may require a special tool or technique to replace the ink, while others offer a simple twist-to-refill mechanism.
2024.05.19 22:18 HalfBloodPrincess13 What does "utilize interiority vs. italics for thoughts" mean?
I'm currently querying a book and I got this rejection letter:
"Thank you again for your submission. You have an amazing foundation and the writing is lovely. But from a reader perspective, I found the overuse of italics to be distracting. The Chicago Manual of Style and APA have guidance on the use of italics in fiction writing, and generally say to use italics for emphasis (especially in dialogue). A great example of this is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is from a genre—upper middle grade fantasy—where the use of italics in dialogue is common.
As always, this is subjective and just my sole opinion. Other agents likely will differ, and you may have already secured an agent, so disregard my opinion.
So, I'm sorry. I will have to pass on this version. Should you ever revise in the future, and utilize interiority vs. italics for thoughts and deep POV, I'd be happy to consider again,
Thank you for considering me and best of luck with your future queries."
It seemed promising, but I write in the third person and I thought italics were used for thoughts. I'm not sure what the agent wants in this case. Do they want me to remove the italics and use "quotes" instead (though I think this is confusing to separate speech from thought) or are they looking for a 1st person's POV vs. 3rd person (if that's the case they probably aren't the agent for me)? Do they want more telling instead of showing in this case? Or is it something else entirely?
2024.05.19 00:08 AutoMughal One Of The Earliest Bilingual Papyrus From 22 AH / 643 CE ⤵️
Jumādā I, 22 AH / 25th April, 643 CE.
Features
It has Arabic and Greek text. The place of discovery of this document is probably Egypt.
Contents
The translation of the document is given below. The Arabic part is in italics:
Recto
God! In the name of God! I, Emir ʿAbdallāh, to you, Christophoros and Theodorakios, Intendants of Herakleopolis! For the maintenance of the Sarasins who are with me, I took from you at Heracleopolis 65 sheep, I repeat: sixty-five and no more, and as an acknowledgement of this fact, we have made the present confirmation. In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful! This is what have taken ʿAbdallāh, Written by me, Jean, notary and deacon. On the 30th of the month of Pharmouthi of the 1st indiction. Son of Jabir, and his companions-in-arms, as of slaughter sheep at Heracleopolis. We have taken from a representative of Theodorakios, second son of Apa Kyros, and from a substitute of Christophoros, eldest son of Apa Kyros, fifty sheep as of slaughter sheep and fifteen other sheep. He gave them, for slaughter, for the crew of his vessels, as well as his cavalry and his breastplated infantry in the month of Jumādā the first in the year twenty-two. Written by Ibn Ḥadīd. Verso
Document concerning the delivery of sheep to the Magarites and other people who arrived, as a down-payment of the taxes of the 1st indiction.
Comments
‘Emir ʿAbdallāh’ here is none other than ʿAbdullāh b. Jābir, who was commander of the expeditionary corps to Upper Egypt in 641-643 CE. In this papyrus, he gives a receipt for 65 sheep for provision of his troops consisting of crew, cavalry and heavily armed soldiers, in Jumādā I, 22 AH (25th April 643 CE). The Muslim forces were well-equipped; heavily armed soldiers and cavalry were accompanied by ships to facilitate strategic movement of troops. This document is of interest as it concerns an important phase of hard struggle against the Byzantine forces resisting fiercely the Arab attack. ʿAbdullāh b. Jābir is also mentioned in two other papyri, viz., PERF 555 and PERF 557.
The interesting part of this document is the use of Magarites that is written in Greek and is identified as mujahirūn. This manuscript shows extensive dotting of Arabic script. Diacritical dots on the letters ج، خ، ذ، ز، ش and ن are clearly visible.
One will notice the Christian iconography in the text in the form of the sign of the cross. This can also be found on several other early ‘official’ papyri texts issued by early Muslim military commanders, such as PERF 556 and Pap. BM 1079. Written in Greek, this text would have been penned by a Christian scribe, so it is reasonable to assume he was simply following usual scribal practice by punctuating the text with the sign of the cross, bearing in mind the recipient of the letter would also have been Christian. It was also a way for the scribe to reassert his faith given the religious tenets of the conquering army. One will note the Arabic part of the text which was written most likely by a Muslim is not punctuated by the sign of the cross.
This papyrus is a part of the Archduke Rainer Collection (usually abbreviated as PERF). It is one of the earliest Arabic papyri; the other one being P. Berol. 15002. Other papyri from 22 AH / 643 CE are PERF 555, PERF 556, PERF 557 and P. Berol. 15002.
2024.05.18 05:24 Sebby19 Differences between "The Starfarers of Catan" and "Catan: Starfarers"
I remember them saying that the remake was improved and tweaked, from the original. I was curious on what exactly changed, so I decided to read the old rules and see what was different 20 years prior. To make things easier, I will use italics for discussing what was old, and bold for what is new. If I return to normal text I'll be discussing what is similar, but don't expect too much. This post is strictly to point out the differences
Components
The Board:
Player pieces
Chips/Discs
Mothership
Friendship Cards
Resources: Resource Reserve Pile is made up of 12 cards of each resource type. When it is exhausted, it is refilled with 6 cards of each type. This is now changed to 8 on start-up, and 8 on refill. However, in the Extension, the Reserve Pile once again starts with 12 of each resource, but on refill has 10.
Set-Up
Production Phase
Flight Phase
And ofcourse there is different artwork. There is also the fact the original never got an Extension (as far as I am aware), nor further Expansions like New Encounters.
Only major thing I didn't go over was the Encounter Cards, but I don't have a list of the old ones to compare with the new ones. The manual for the original 5-6 Extension also doesn't seem to be online.
2024.05.17 11:00 CubeOfDestiny Question about hadwriting
Question about hadwriting
Over my years on the internet I've noticed some wierd stuff about hadwriting from americans, mostly i'm confused about cursive. Being from poland, noone cared about how you write as long as it's readable, and the very concept of cursive baffles me, like who cares whether you join up the letter you write or not, in my experience nobody gave a fuck about that. Literary i tried to find anything on polish speaking internet talking about what americans refer to as 'cursive' and only thing i found were ramblings about some anccient roman bullshit, copperplate script, italics and random articles probably just copying stuff from america. So what's up with all that? Also here is some of my hadwriting
2024.05.16 17:26 ThebestBlanket A comparison of the web and app chat rooms
A comparison of the web and app chat rooms
It's a bit messy, but this is what I've noticed in the term of differences between the apps chat room, and the websites chat room. In the app: things are quite round, giving off a more friendly and softer look to the whole interface. There is less buttons in your face, I also like how the chat bubbles act as their own buttons for edits, copying, and deleting. The chat bubbles take up a lot of space, but it makes up for that with bigger text, even when you have it set to small. Though, with the bigger chat bubbles, there is less space for a user to press when done with typing out a response. This leads to accidental presses on your own chat bubble when waiting for the Bot to reply (at least for me). When the app was still fairly new, this caused a few issues with the generation of the Bots response. Everything is pretty clearly labeled, buttons look like buttons, again, the only "hidden" buttons are the actual chat bubble, and the Bots profile picture. The whole interface is not cluttered or too in your face with the Galaxy theme, and honestly, I forget I have it on sometimes. The words pop enough to read in a bright room, and dull enough to not strain your eyes too much when reading at night. I love the fact that the chat bubbles follow the theme you the user set for it.
For the website: The chat box where the user types in, is very sharp and goes all the way to the edge of the screen. The sharpness of the chat box sort of clashes with the continuation of rounded chat bubbles. Speaking of the chat bubbles, I noticed that the user has more space to press when done typing. Making the chat bubbles more compact, the interface almost feels as if it's farther away, giving the illusion of smaller letters. Along with the chat, we also get an extra button on the right side of the chat, a square box ment for bringing up the 4 options: edit, copy, delete, and cancel. This is very useful for computer users, though can be seen as clutter on the mobile website due to the smaller screen. Again, accidentally presses are sure to happen, and while it might not bug out the website, it can become quite taxing to get the same pop up every time you press it on accident. Buttons still look and act like buttons, this time the only hidden button being the Bots profile. On the app, once you respond to it the first time, the little stripe of text is gone, on the website, the text on the top stays in full veiw. Making the interface feel more cluttered. With that in mind, it makes a bit more sense on why the Bots don't have a check mark when chatting. The italics on the website are a Grey, not following the galaxy theme at all. And on the topic, I've noticed the theme is a bit duller, and the design of stars, planets, ships, and galaxies, are smaller.
Overall: Each version of Dopple.AI has faults and perks, personally I like the haptic feedback the app provides. Others don't like it, and that's fine. The important thing is that we all understand that the Development team are not the robots that we talk to on the web and app. They are humans and shouldn't be rushed, talked down to, or overloaded with complaints that have been reported 100× within 2 minutes. People need breaks and positive criticism.
(This took so long to write, have a fantastic day and an even better week >×<)
2024.05.16 13:18 LetterGrouchy6053 What Donald Trump Would Do for $1 Billion.
Four Grand juries made up of randomly chosen citizens determined there is enough evidence to indict Donald Trump, and one criminal trial is now in progress.
You would think he would learn.
But no, continuing his criminality he is blatantly offering his services to the highest bidders. In a recent meeting with oil company executives, he told them, outright, if they gave him enough money, he would undermine all Biden's clear air legislation and continue to see their taxes are lowered.
This man would sell your soul to the devil if he had the opportunity. He is so bereft of decency he admitted he was attracted to Stormy Daniels because she reminds him of his daughter, Ivanka. Remember he once said if Ivanka wasn't his daughter he would...?
Not to spend too much time writing about Donald Trump this week, but I was struck by this report in The Washington Post on the former president’s recent overtures to oil executives. After hearing one executive during an event last month at his Mar-a-Lago club complain about supposedly burdensome environmental regulations promulgated by the Biden administration, Trump made a proposition.
You all are wealthy enough, he said, that you should raise $1 billion to return me to the White House. At the dinner, he vowed to immediately reverse dozens of President Biden’s environmental rules and policies and stop new ones from being enacted, according to people with knowledge of the meeting, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a private conversation. Giving $1 billion would be a “deal,” Trump said, because of the taxation and regulation they would avoid thanks to him, according to the people.
The rest of the story goes on to describe Trump’s plans to gut the federal government’s response to climate change and facilitate more and greater fossil fuel extraction.
Trump told the executives that he would start auctioning off more leases for oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico, a priority that several of the executives raised. He railed against wind power, as The Post previously reported. And he said he would reverse the restrictions on drilling in the Alaskan Arctic.
This would be a generational setback on climate change, a large and disastrous mortgage on the future so that oil and gas giants could fill their coffers for just a little bit longer before they are overtaken by clean energy.
I’m obviously angered by the blatant disregard for the planet and its inhabitants. But I’m also struck by the in-your-face brazenness of Trump’s reported quid pro quo. This is more than the hint of corruption; it is the overpowering scent of the rotting corpse of corruption. It is influence trading of the sort that would embarrass a Boss Tweed or a Roscoe Conkling, whose “honest graft” came with at least the pretense of pursuing the public good.
Even more striking than Trump’s corruption, however, is the fact that we seem to be completely unfazed by the fact that the former president has apparently offered to sell his prospective administration to fossil fuel interests. That might be because, from the beginning of his term to its end, Trump was a font for corruption while in office. His hotel, located just down the street from the White House, was a clearinghouse for anyone who wanted to buy a favor. His daughter and son-in-law may not have accomplished much as presidential advisers, but they walked away from the administration with upwards of hundreds of millions of dollars in new wealth. And six months after leaving the White House, Jared Kushner secured a $2 billion investment from a fund led by the crown prince of Saudi Arabia.
If Trump’s latest instance of corruption isn’t a campaign-ending scandal, it may be because it is nothing new. Trump is corrupt to his bones and now that appears to be as noteworthy as the weather...
He railed against wind power, as The Post previously reported. And he said he would reverse the restrictions on drilling in the Alaskan Arctic.
This would be a generational setback on climate change, a large and disastrous mortgage on the future so that oil and gas giants could fill their coffers for just a little bit longer before they are overtaken by clean energy.
I’m obviously angered by the blatant disregard for the planet and its inhabitants. But I’m also struck by the in-your-face brazenness of Trump’s reported quid pro quo. This is more than the hint of corruption; it is the overpowering scent of the rotting corpse of corruption. It is influence trading of the sort that would embarrass a Boss Tweed or a Roscoe Conkling, whose “honest graft” came with at least the pretense of pursuing the public good.
Even more striking than Trump’s corruption, however, is the fact that we seem to be completely unfazed by the fact that the former president has apparently offered to sell his prospective administration to fossil fuel interests. That might be because, from the beginning of his term to its end, Trump was a font for corruption while in office. His hotel, located just down the street from the White House, was a clearinghouse for anyone who wanted to buy a favor. His daughter and son-in-law may not have accomplished much as presidential advisers, but they walked away from the administration with upwards of hundreds of millions of dollars in new wealth. And six months after leaving the White House, Jared Kushner secured a $2 billion investment from a fund led by the crown prince of Saudi Arabia.
If Trump’s latest instance of corruption isn’t a campaign-ending scandal, it may be because it is nothing new. Trump is corrupt to his bones and now that appears to be as noteworthy as the weather...
