If you attend this year's convention, please could you report how much pioneering is featured on the programme?
I see from Larch's new post that they have updated pioneer book.I have to admit, I'm surprised at this. I had a suspicion that they were quietly phasing out pioneering. It would be crazy for them to do it, but then they are crazy.
Here are my reasons for thinking this:
Pioneer school has been reduced from two weeks to one. Now often the school is conducted by a CO and a local pioneer elder, instead of two CO's In many places they have to bring their own lunch. It used to be a sit-down meal provided by the local congregation. The school used to be a big draw - "You only need to pioneer for 12 months, then you get invited to the school...". Now it is less special, it is less of a draw for new ones.
The reduction in pioneer hours makes it less significant as a role and naturally lowers its status. 12.5 hours a week is not such a feat of spirituality. If people stop thinking that pioneering is so special, they will be less likely to sacrifice college or career prospects to do it. Actually, now the hours are so low, it would be possible to attend college AND pioneer. For me, this is the biggest danger for the Borg. They have to offer a career path that keeps young people out of mainstream education and life. If they don't, this religion will surely sink once the boomers have left the scene.
No more foreign language groups. When I was pioneering (90's-2000s), the only thing that kept us going was the academic appeal of learning a new language and the time it used up trying to find people who spoke that language. If I was left in my home congregation (very white, middle-class suburbia) I would have gone nuts knocking on doors all day. Nobody in the English territory was interested or would listen for more than 20 seconds.
The fact that non-pioneers don't have to count time at all makes pioneering seem unnecessarily unfair. If I can be "in good standing" and knock off whenever I feel like it, why would I bind myself to pedantically counting my time? On the Borg videos, they have portrayed not counting time as a positive, an advancement to help us focus on people, not time. If so, why the hell would anyone pioneer?
So my theory is that they won't abolish the "privilege" of pioneering, they will just talk about it less and less.
If you attend the convention, please report back on how pioneering is talked about on the programme. Is it the focus of the ministry, or just something you can do if you wish?

I'm told women want a man who knows what he wants, so here's the whole nine yards. If there is anything here that you are not willing to accept, then don't. You will not change me now or years down the line. Obviously I intend to grow and mature (as one ought to), but I have decided who I am and what I want out of a relationship.

A bit about me:
My faith in Christ is paramount in my life. I would not be where I am without him. In taking interests in various things, I've learned a lot about God's character and design. Each new thing I learn fills me with more worship of him and wonder at his works. It is very important to me that you share this admiration of God.
I have a full-time job that I am very satisfied with, but what I feel truly passionate about is art and storytelling. To be honest, I've hit a bit of a block lately as far as my output. But I've been trying to find my feet so I can make something valuable to share with the world. I think that art and stories are a fundamental part of being human, not just a luxury. So pretty much any kind of art will spark passion in me, be it music, cinema, video games, literature, video essay, sculpture, etc. I could go back and forth for hours on a lot of things. My hope is that you and I will be able to enjoy art together and create some of our own.
I frequently spend time with another gentleman from my Church and we enjoy conversations about personal projects and contemporary issues, along with walks along beaches and park trails. He is a very important friend in my life, and I am lucky to know such a kind soul. Things aren't well with my family, so I really need that kind of presence.
While I rely on my bicycle for transport (no car), it's not a problem for me. I've been riding bikes since I was in elementary school (maybe even before). It would be really nice to ride down some trails with you.
What I expect from you:
-You need to be a follower of Jesus Christ. God needs to be an active part of your life because I intend to raise our children under Biblical values.
-You need hobbies and interests apart from me. I'm fine with helping you find things you like.
-You need to have no mileage.
-You must be humble and respectful. "Boss babe" attitudes are not attractive to me.
-You cannot have any tattoos or piercings.
-No cosmetic products. It's not good for your body and I am attracted women, not makeup. This includes fake nails and fake eyelashes. I don't need you to look "pretty." You character is more important to me.
-Related to the previous, no use of image filters in photos. I do not like the type of people who are vain and vapid enough to feel the need to use filters on their photos.
-Again related to the previous, you need to have a limited social media presence. If you have a business or post something of value (like art, for example), then I have no problem. What I'm talking about is having an Instagram or Facebook account where you make random posts to nobody in particular to "update" the internet on your life or post tons of pictures of yourself online. Basing your self-worth on the comments and likes from strangers on the internet is unhealthy, and I find people's obsessive need to take pictures of themselves very unattractive and vain.
-If we marry, I expect you to be fully submissive to me. There can't be two leaders in a household because one will have to submit to the other.
-I expect you to view marriage as something that you put work into. Marriages are a team effort, so I expect you to be a help meet.
-You need to treat me like a partner, not an adversary. Getting into arguments and nagging me helps neither of us. You must have conflict-resolution skills and a solution mindset.
-You need excellent communication skills. This means understanding yourself, putting your thoughts into words other people can understand, and verbalizing things rather than expecting me to read your thoughts.
-You cannot play games with me. Telling me about other guys to make me jealous or planning dates for specific days to pressure me into committing to you are wicked and manipulative.
-While we are dating, you cannot have a "backup plan." I expect you to not be splitting your attention between me and other men. This includes spending time outside of work with other men (family excluded).
-You must be in shape. Don't be dishonest with yourself about your weight; check your BMI. This includes being underweight, anorexic, and bulimic.
-You cannot have taken any COVID-19 vaccinations from any provider.
-No smoking, drugs, or drunkenness.
-I expect you to completely renounce fast food if we date or marry. We will never feed our children McDonald's.
What you can expect from me:
-While we are dating, I will not be speaking to other women.
-I cannot meet your height, money, or attractiveness expectations. I am simply an average dude. I am critical, abstract, and imaginative in my thinking though.

We recently witnessed an incident involving ACP office of Kengeri callously handling an incident regarding women safety. A similar kind of indifferent attitude was confronted with the office ofACP BANASWADI on 16th January 2024. I received around 9 calls from the below-said number +91 80 2294 2147 between 14.06 to 14.43. The caller had difficulty in communicating anything other than Kannada. Though I was able to hear him clearly and also did not perceive noise disruptions either from their side or my side not sure why the caller felt the audio was not clear for him. My phone is configured to record the calls for quick review through Transcription and AI research besides to help in case of disconnections alongside to abate spam (UCC) and scam.. Total Call Attempts: 9 Missed/Dropped: 3 Received/Recorded: 6 In one of the call we could momentarily touch upon the topic of the call regarding the previous complaint I made several months ago regarding a scammer pretending to be from a non-existent Horamavu police station. I had done my research through Bangalore discussion forums to confirm it is indeed a spam and based on the same gave a tip-off to IPGRS that time itself. The original incident (root of the interactions) is as below.
I have been receiving a bunch of sub-minute calls from +91 95992 30065 between 15.19 and 15.20 on September 2023. All of them were no voice transmissions from the caller. Additionally the Hello was not reciprocated making one feel like an autodial-agent/recorded call. A few minutes later a threat-tainted message originated from the number. The response filed after a few days on IPGRS is as below. Interestingly other than the spurt of calls on January, there was no such update to me from the investigation team. The big question is that the number which threatened seemed to have mentioned they do not know about this. And the LawEnforcement has believed the same without verifying their CDR from the telephone company.
Shouldn't we consider this too as an act of Omission and #ommission or Negligence of Duty? Hence I had reported about this shoddy investigation (vide 97951) and escalated back to IPGRS vide 147245 And this one seems to have got assigned to Sarjapura Police Station and the response from them was to transfer to Department of Administrative Reforms (CPGRS) citing it is applicable to Government of India and not them.
Incidentally we can not check the progress of complaints without knowing which mobile number and/or email address was used to register the same on PgPortal. I am pretty much a newbie to programming, I did an online beginners course a while back in Python but have had a child since then and life has stopped me taking it further. I have also forgotten a lot of the stuff. I have worked in Product Management and have a good 'outsiders' understanding of software development.
An opportunity came up for me to give it another go with a project I am working on, it should be pretty straightforward and I could pass it to a dev to do but then I wont learn anything.
The problem is this, I want to monitor Meta's Advertising standards for changes. These are in seperate webpages (65 in total i think). If there is a change, I want to know about it and am happy to manually review the page on these rare occassions. If there is no change, then I dont care! The sort of info they have is aspect ratios for images in ads, max. file weight etc.
My solution is to write a Python script and use BeautifulSoup to grab the webpage data and save the information in the
  • tags in a file, for whatever reason I have this as a CSV but filetype doesnt matter to me (the li tags are where the info in the page I need is and just taking them should cut out all the other noise). I would run this script daily so that the new extract of the li tags can be compared with the saved version. If there is a change then update the file and let me know.
    Im trying to start by just outputting the li tags in a file for one site. Once I have done that I would like to add the comparison. The next iteration would be to add the other 60+ websites in to the script, perhaps outputting different files, perhaps putting it all in one but then I have the added complexity of highlighting which one has changed.
    My code is below:

    This currently works and pops the li tags in the a CSV. It would be nicer to have it put each li tag in a new row rather than column.
    How would I go about comparing my next run of the code to the saved 'img-insta-reels.csv' with it updating and notifying if there was a change?
    Also is my proposed order correct, should I continue as my question above or start examining all of the websites? I would like this to be nice incremental learning steps so that at the end of I should fully understand all of my code!

    Hey! I'm a longtime tech/gaming enthusiast who has dabbled through the different parts of reddit over the last 12 years of my life but I never really had any idea on what to post, if anything. Finally hitting the point in life where I want to get into a more solid hobby and I started with a childhood goal of building my own PC. I'm really getting into it, but I'm just unaware of what all is available and where.
    Now I don't know an immense amount about it all which is why I had a good amount of help starting out from a childhood friend who had built a setup for his girlfriend and himself. I did not want to go too big on my first build but I didn't want to be too cheap. My initial goal is to upgrade it as much as I can before having to get a new case. If I end up hitting a ceiling on what can be achieved then I may dabble with more serious stuff but for now I would really like to see what all I can get to from my current build!
    So my question for the real enthusiasts of this area, what can I upgrade out of this for a good price? I currently run a 27" Samsung curved monitor and have a tv as an external but tomorrow I plan to disconnect the tv and buy an identical Samsung monitor for side-by-side screens. I am just getting into PC gaming so I dont need anything crazy but I am interested in water cooling unless thats just overkill. Like I said this will be moreso a hobby. Id like to maybe update the graphics a little more so that I can stream/run multiple things at once without any frame drop. (again very clueless in the grand scheme on this stuff).
    I love my case and rgb is moreso just a bonus, not a necessity. Any ideas/tips on improving the build please let me know! I dont mind spending some money but I dont want to go overboard. Can post pics or any other relevant information if needed.

    Leaning toward getting some kind of 7800xt graphics card and upgrading the power supply.

    My boyfriend returned to college this week and I have been extremely happy for him. However I noticed a lot of changes that have been happening that really had me feeling really concerned. Basically I noticed that he had changed his relationship status on Instagram it no longer says "taken". Because previously he did not mind having his relationship status saying "taken" and now it's no longer there.
    He also started posting a lot of shirtless pictures after going to the college gym. He used to post shirtless pictures on Instagram but stopped after being in a relationship with me and simply working out at home. But now that he's back in the gym he's posting them everyday and always looking to see who's checking out his Instagram stories and pictures. It just makes me feel like damn like what is going on.

    2024.05.17 07:16 Ok_Peach7660 MIL as realtor nightmare!

    My SO and I are struggling with making our house feel like ours after MIL controlled it
    So my (F25) girlfriend (F30) bought her own house a couple years ago. She’d been wanting that milestone for herself a long time, BUT right around the time she started looking at places with a random realtor her insufferable mother decides to BECOME a realtor. I knew this was a horrible situation, I saw the storm brewing and begged her not to, but ultimately she was eventually relentlessly guilted into having her overbearing controlling mom be her realtor and eventually gave in.
    This led to a string of being guilted into buying a house so her mom could ‘make her first sale’. And when I thought the hell was finally over, MIL is giving her money to renovate the place and is now the ‘interior designer’.
    Her mom gutted both bathrooms, pissed off the workers who quit in the middle of the project, and during everything did NOT physically leave the house as if it was hers.
    Que a meltdown over being ‘left out’ when my girlfriend comes and sees me like we normally do.
    Oh AND the whole time her mom is blasting sermons and demanding her ugly cross decorations be front and center in her lesbian daughter’s house.
    She also was unable to take advice or criticism even though she did a horrible job.
    I ended up doing almost everything else in the house for SO to avoid her mom’s involvement or her having to pay for more workers.
    SO picked a really cheap vanity install just so she would have a working sink and be able to move out of her parents house as quickly as possible. Well now the vanity is failing and it’s so hard to not be constantly upset at her narcissist mother for even ripping out the entire bathroom in the first place when there wasn’t a plan or budget to replace it at all.
    Well fast forward we both live in the house now and it’s STILL not finished. The bathroom projects her mom began are failing. Her mom still is trying to come and do construction projects which is a hell no. She’s moving out of state in a couple months and we can finally buckle down and finish the fucking house without her.
    Also; her mom posted EVERYTHING on Facebook and her friends ask us for ‘after’ renovations pics often 😳😳😳.
    I feel like her mom made my partners life decision about herself. I kinda think she felt weirdly jealous of her daughter being able to buy a house and inserted herself into it. The situation revealed how she was jealous of her daughter’s relationship with me. And acted like her daughter’s house was her playground. And, she used all of it to brag on Facebook without consulting her at all.
    How can I help us feel more comfortable in the house now? I’m so so angry at this woman and I want her essense OUT of the house.

    2024.05.17 07:10 LoveThemCheeks AIO My GF lied about her EX BF and is trying to hangout behind my back

    Me (30M) and my girlfriend (29F) have been dating for about 8 months. Started dating end of August 2023. Last year around Christmas we were at this dive bar in her home town.
    The bar is packed and loud cuz everyone is home for the holidays. We were sitting down at the bar and she sees someone enter the bar from like 50ft away and says “omg”, starts giggling and points at someone behind me. Not trying to draw attention, I wait a few moments then turn around and see a mid 40yr old looking guy standing a lone looking visible physically awkward and uncomfortable.
    My girlfriend says he is a guy she dated like a year ago (they dated for 6months) and that he is going to hate seeing her there with someone. She starts saying a few things she dislikes about him and how he borderline stalked her to the point that she had to block his phone number and also had to block him on multiple social media accounts.
    We giggle about the guy for a bit and 5mins later the guy comes over to say hi to her and I. They make small talk, I introduce myself and make small talk. Then he leaves the bar for the night without even having been there for more than 15mins.
    Girlfriend starts cackling then goes on a 10min rant of how the guy was controlling and all this other really negative stuff. Eventually we move on from talking about the guy and enjoy the rest of the night.
    We leave the bar around 1am, my girlfriend checks her phone and her ex messaged her on Facebook giving excuses why he had to leave the bar so fast. He also makes comments about me looking like a boring person and then asks her if we want to have a threesome.
    Dude doesn’t even have the ability to see us together and is messaging my girlfriend stuff like this so I’m just pissed at the guy and say to my GF “wow you should probably block him on FB too” and leave it at that. We never talk about the guy again and he never comes up in conversation again.
    Fast forward to the other day, early May 2024, my GF and I have swapped phones looking through each other’s FB marketplace chat history. We were exchanging stories about things we’ve found cuz we’re both really into thrifting and things like that. We each use the others phones all the time with no questions asked.
    While on messenger, seeing her marketplace chat history, I go to the archive chats to see any past things she was interested in. The first thing I see in the archive is the chat between her and her ex. There are messages from a week ago and the notifications for the chat are muted.
    My GF a week ago went to that same towny dive bar with a friend and asked her ex if he wanted to join. That’s the most recent message. Seeing this made me completely shocked. My GF had gone to the bathroom while I was seeing this.
    I scroll up in the chat and see that since they saw each other around Christmas they’ve talked every few weeks/months exchanging a handful of messages with mostly boring life updates.
    However, every time they exchange a few texts it’s always my GF initiating the conversation. And she has mentioned getting together with him to hang out several times. The most recent conversation went exactly like this.
    GF: “Hey I’m going to bar wanna join?” EX: “I thought you were in love with that guy?” GF: “That doesn’t mean we can’t hangout and talk”
    So guys…….what the hell is going on? I have yet to tell her I saw the messages. I feel like I’ve been lied to by my GF who has told me she feels like she can tell me anything. She is clearly purposely hiding this FB chat from me because she moved this active chat with him to her chat archives and muted notifications on the chat. She is hiding a chat with a guy who she claimed she hates and says is a horrible person. Yet she is messaging him first every time and is trying to hangout with him……
    I feel betrayed and have never felt more justified to tell a significant other to stop speaking with someone. Btw I’ve never told a partner to never speak with anyone before.
    I feel justified in breaking up with her over this….
    Am I overreacting????
    Edit: To clarify, I’m almost 100% positive they have never actually met up. But she has asked him if he wanted to go to the bar several times while she was with other friends who know we are together. At no point in their text was there ever “yeah ok let’s meet at this time, k see ya there” We share each others location and she’s literally either always at work or her mom’s house 99% of the time.
    Edit 2: I don’t care that she is talking to an ex. I’m friends with some of my EXs. She is friends with some of hers. We talk to each other about past experiences with EXs. I don’t care about that. I’m not a jealous person. The issue is she is going out of her way to HIDE this EX and her conversation.
    Edit 3: please keep commenting but I’m pretty sure my plan of attack needs to be just to ask her next time we are by that bar “lol hey remember that guy? Did he continue to talk with you after that night?”
