2024.06.01 12:17 niemteltsuj Long term fasting isn't for everybody, and that's ok.

This may upset some people. In fact I can count on it.
I only wrote this for 1% of you. For the rest, please disregard it.
A Different Game:
I'm not sure if I can explain this. I don't think that I totally understand it myself, but that's ok.
Long term fasting isn't about food, but you already knew that or you wouldn't be attempting a long fast.
This may not pertain to everyone that does a long fast. Maybe it won't pertain to any of them.
You may not know who I am, or of my situation. That's ok. I'm just some guy in a sub-reddit.
For me the battle is more important than the weightloss. Fasting can tear you down right to the core. It can lay you open and expose vulnerabilities that you didn't know you had.
That can be a good thing if you are ready for it. When you've faced something that stripes you down, you only have two ways to go. You either stay broken or you rebuild a new you.
Fasting isn't a team sport. The rebuilding process is a solo journey. You will face family and friends that mean well. You will face people on reddit that have watched a few videos of someone that thinks they know about fasting.
The fact is that after your first long fast, you have experience, they have hearsay.
Repeating what somebody else said about something that very few people have experienced is easy. There are way to many armchair quarterbacks.
For all intents and purposes they are standing on the sidewalk watching the parade go by.
We need to respect those people. They believe what they are saying. They don't mean to drag you down. They just don't understand that the game we are playing is nothing like the game they are playing.
Respecting them doesn't mean letting their opinions effect you. We leave their words to them. We step outside of their world.
We are outside of the box thinkers. We learn by doing, not by reading, watching, or listening.
In short, we cut our own path.
Long term fasting will cause you to question everything about your past, present, and future.
It will make you question yourself to the point that you lose the belief in your fight.
Don't be mistaken. This is war. You will fight battles every day of your fast.
TV commercials, concerned family members, concerned friends, people in the fasting reddit, all of these and more, are all battles. Each battle takes your energy to fight them.
We all have a limit as to how much unintentional abuse that we can take.
Remember, we are playing a different game. We aren't better than them, it's just a different game.
To succeed we close off there words. We smile and nod without telling them they are wrong. Their rules don't apply. Remember, ours is a different game. We need our energy for other challenges, tougher challenges.
Once we're in a long fast our mind will scream at us. It doesn't Remember why it stored the fat. How could it. We don't live in a world where using fat for energy is part of the equation.
We know the truth. Fat is fuel. Combine that fat with electrolytes and vitamins and your body has a built in smorgasbord.
You will face many days where you question whether it is worth it. Days when the scales aren't moving, and you are constantly thinking about your comfort food, can push you close to your limit. If you aren't confident and forward thinking it can break you.
We play a game that is much like chess. Our move is the result of a strategy that we decided on several moves ago. We don't make in the moment decisions. We know the obstacles but we don't care because we set this strategy in motion days before. Today is temporary. It is here and gone in the blink of an eye.
Tomorrow. That's how we win today's battle. Our mind is already in tomorrow. How can we giving in today if we are already in a tomorrow frame of mind.
Our battle is intense. As with chess, sometimes we have to sacrifice a pawn, maybe even a knight. We do this by skipping a family gathering or a superbowl party if they fall within our fasting plan.
I've missed Easter, Thanksgiving, my birthday, my mom's birthday, mother's day, and 4th of july cookouts.
This game requires sacrifice. The weightloss is great. I've lost 240 pounds, but that is irrelevant.
Our true opponent is our mind. Nothing else can matter. In truth, nothing else exists. We stand alone. Alone against family, friends, and armchair experts.
On one fast, I was on day 56. My mind was done. I didn't think I had anything left in the gas tank, but I've faced things in life that totally wiped me out. I knew there is always just a little more left if we reach deep.
I held on. My mind was screaming. I couldn't hear anything but, "give in, it's over"
I dug deep. I went to my room. I just wanted to go to bed. I climbed on my bed. I couldn't climb under the covers. That would take too much external energy. I knelt on my bed. I rocked back and forth for three hours. I was sobbing uncontrollably. My body was shaking from the depth of those sobbs.
I made it. The tears ended. The rocking ended. I collapsed on my bed and slept for hours.
I faced one of the hardest challenges in my 55 years on this planet.
That victory is mine. Nobody can take it from me. Believe it or not several people from this fasting community tried. They told me that I was lying. They said I got lucky because I didn't die. They said I would cause someone to take their last breath.
I didn't care what they said, and I don't care now. The victory is mine. Any time I struggle I look back on that morning. I remember the intensity. I fought so hard, and I won. What challenge can I face in the future that could compare. The answer is, nothing. Nothing I will face can hold a candle to that day.
I've faced some extreme challenges. My girlfriend passed from cancer while laying in the bed beside of me. My mom went to prison when I was little. Our friend was murdered. One of our friends came over after he had been shot. We were robbed at gunpoint. None of that compared.
Even Marine Corps boot camp paled in comparison to that day.
We face intense situations while fasting. This may sound bad but I hope you can experience that. I can't think of anything that could ever take me down. I look back on that day and it empowers me. With that memory I can tackle any opponent.
We play a different game. Don't forget that.
99% of people on here won't get it. Many will condemn and down vote this.
I'll say it again, we play a different game. They won't get it and thats ok.
After you face your demons. After you make it out the other side, there is nothing left to compare.
Our battle may be different but the final outcome is the same.
We win.
After that challenge,
we win because that's all we know.

2024.06.01 12:16 CorruptedStudiosEnt Games similar to NFS Most Wanted 1/2

LOVED the progression in these games.
The Crew and Forza were neat, but ultimately felt like open checklist racers. The progression was sorta there, but you could be driving a super car around the open world in an hour. The progression also seemed more geared towards showing off online as opposed to it being integral to the game.
I've touched on some of the newer NFS games, but for one reason or another, they just weren't clicking. I'll admit I haven't tried Unbound, which looks the most similar to what I'm looking for on the surface, but the claims of horrific rubberbanding I see all through the reviews turned me right off of it.
What I loved about these games was the certain.. RPGness of them. Scouring an open world, making some money, upgrading your turbo trying to get through a tough main story race, etc. I'm really hoping there's something newer to scratch this itch.

'''Just checked and the sloth doesn’t say “I don’t know”, it just grunts with an intonation that indicates that that’s what it was saying. The fish in the tank understand English because they've been hearing humans all their life, but there's no reason for Dory to understand English. [[spoiler:Subverted in that ''WesternAnimation/FindingDory'' reveals she was raised in a marine life institute in California.]] '''Since it says “understand” and not “speak” I can only assume this is a case of TranslationConvention and AnimalTalk, which means they aren’t actually fluent in English.''' * WesternAnimation.SpiritStallionOfTheCimarron: Spirit, despite not having had any human contact before his capture, understands what the human characters are saying. [[/folder]]
[[folder:Bilingual Dialogue (11/50)]] * Characters.MashupWeekMegamixCompetitors: Despite the fact that all 3 members speak different languages (English for Scoop, French for Eric and Italian for Baba), they can be understood by each other and by others easily. * Film.NoTimeToDie: James Bond's 5-year-old daughter, Mathilde, understands English even though her mother Madelaine speaks to her in French and all the media she consumes is in French. * Film.Titanic1997: Jack and the Swedish men understand each other well enough that Olaf is able to bet his tickets for all Jack and Fabrizio's money. * FinalFantasyXIV.TropesGToI?: ** In ''Heavensward'', the Warrior and Alphinaud are startled by how they can understand the great wyrm Hraesvelgr, who only speaks the language of dragons. They learn that while other races may not speak the dragon's language, the inherent power and magic in a dragon's song essentially beams meaning directly into the hearer's mind. ** The Scions are shocked in ''Shadowbringers'' when they meet [[spoiler:Emet-Selch's recreation of the lost city of Amaurot, the home of the BenevolentPrecursor race. One of the few supernatural parts of the setting is that [[TrappedInAnotherWorld Asuta]] can understand its inhabitants' language (almost) perfectly. Nobody knows why, nor do they ever find out; it's essentially one of the AcceptableBreaksFromReality needed to get the plot going. * Literature.{{Fablehaven}}: After receiving magic from fairies, Kendra gains the ability to interpret their language intuitively despite never actually learning it. * Manga.MiriyaAndMarie: Aside of occasional GratuitousFrench, Miriya can understand all French and animal characters and vice versa. Blackey also tries to charge Miriya for massage in yen despite being French. * VideoGame.KnightsOfTheOldRepublic: Yes, your character understands plenty of languages, but there isn't anyone who ''should'' understand the language of the AbusivePrecursors. '''When moving this to BilingualDialogue, I would rewrite it as “Your character understands plenty of languages, but can only speak one.''' * WebOriginal.MashupWeek: In both tournaments, Flat Eric speaks French, but everyone can understand him perfectly. Same with Gigi, who speaks Italian. * WesternAnimation.JosieAndThePussycats: ''[[RecycledWithAGimmick In Outer Space]]'' has Melody encounter an alien creature that looks like cotton candy with eyes and flippers. The critter speaks in a series of bleeps, and Melody names him Bleep. [[InexplicablySpeaksFluentAlien She can also understand him perfectly, and acts as translator for everyone else]]. Also, Bleep seems to understand English just fine. '''I also think InexplicablySpeaksFluentAlien should be limited to people actually speaking Alien instead of just understanding it, but that’s for another time.''' [[/folder]]
[[folder:Other (6/50)]] * Characters.InfinityTrainSeekerOfCrocusMultiverse: Upon looking at some files from the old phone Oscar picked up, he's somehow able to read ''Aztec glyphs'' just by looking at it. [[spoiler:This is probably due to his covenant with Agares, as one of Agares' ability is to let his conjurer read and understand different languages.]] * Fanfic.InfinityTrainSeekerOfCrocus: Kaito is somehow able to read ''Aztec glyphs'' just by looking at it. [[spoiler:This is probably due to his covenant with Agares, as one of Agares' ability is to let his conjurer read and understand different languages.]] * Characters.YaBoyKongming: ** Kongming also demonstrates an ability to understand English, as he is able to tell that the English song Eiko sings to him is a love song, with enough comprehension to be moved by a vision of his old comrades due to the lyrics referencing being still alive and alone. Later, upon meeting Tsuyoshi Kondo after Eiko's performance at the Yoyogi Art Festival, Kongming easily translates his GratuitousEnglish for a confused Kobayashi, and he's even become friends with a foreigner in Roppongi, who speaks exclusively in English. He's capable of some GratuitousEnglish himself, to boot. * Recap/CreepshowS2E2PublicTelevisionOfTheDead: Goodman reveals to Ted, out of nowhere, that he can read Sumerian, allowing him to translate the Necronomicon's incantations and let Evil roam free once again. * Series.{{Carnivale}}: During the fireball show, Samson secretly passes an old Crusader fob up to the stage during Lodz's psychometry act. When Lodz touches it, he's struck by visions of a holy war and begins chanting ''"In hoc signo vinces!"'' Ben, an uneducated farmboy, surprises Samson by translating even though he doesn't even recognize the language is Latin: '''Ben Hawkins:''' By this sign we conquer... by this sign we conquer... * WesternAnimation.SpaceChimps2ZartogStrikesBack: Zartog understands the humans, despite having just arrived on Earth. He even understands Spanish, Hindi, and Xhosa upon hearing them for the first time, making the humans' inability to understand him even more hilarious. [[/folder]]

A wick check for InexplicableLanguageFluency.
'''Why?''': InexplicableLanguageFluency seems to lump in examples of characters demonstrating fluency in a language they've never learned with examples of characters merely understanding a language they never learned. For one, it doesn't make sense for the latter examples to be there since the title has the word "fluency" in it. Secondly, many of the latter examples can be moved to BilingualDialogue or AmplifiedAnimalAptitude.

2024.06.01 12:03 CasuallySherlock Tip for getting Dataspike if the game bugs

I was having issues with doing a resistance quest like because I broke my Dataspike you receive after getting it from the scoundrel contact.
I kept reading about having to fully quit the quest and begin the Scoundrel line so you can buy them from the scoundrel leader. I didn’t want to lose all my progress (admittedly not much) but here’s what you can do if you are like me and don’t want to lose progress.
You do have to use testingcheats true. So enable cheats, then use the cheat code bb.enablefreebuild, enter build mode and filter by the Batuu expansion pack. Find the Dataspike and set it on the ground. Your game will not allow you to pick it up as your sim doesn’t own it. Shift click the Dataspike and set as head. Your sim will now have a massive Dataspike in their head. Make sure you are still on the edit-able lot and then shift click the spike in your head and reset object. It will appear on the ground still large but it will allow you to click and drag into your inventory.
It may seem like a bit to do but it can be better to do that than to go around and break open a bunch of chests to try and find one.

The Real Avid The Pistol Tool is an incredibly versatile tool that has made my life as a shooter so much easier. From mounting accessories to adjusting laser sights and changing side grips, this little powerhouse has everything I need to keep my handgun in tip-top shape, whether I'm at the range or working on it at home.
One of the things that stood out to me is its compact size and easy one-hand access. Every tool is carefully calibrated to popular pistol platforms, making it incredibly easy and user-friendly. I particularly love how each tool locks open for maximum safety and precision.
However, there are a couple of downsides. The screw bits could be slightly larger to accommodate different screw sizes, and I wish the hex head wrenches were slightly larger for greater versatility.
Despite these minor issues, this tool has been a game-changer for me. Every handgunner should have The Pistol Tool in their range bag or workbench - it's an absolute lifesaver!

🔗Manticore Scorpion EVO Folding Stock for Increased Compatibility and Adjustability

https://preview.redd.it/1kawyuupox3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=712dcbbf171e3c45dc6e49b3424b808a2e3061ac
Using the Manticore Slider Stock for my CZ Scorpion Evo felt like a breath of fresh air. The slim design, inspired by the MP5A3, allowed for smooth transitions between extended and collapsed positions. I loved that it added barely any bulk to the gun, making it a great option for those who want a sleeker look. However, I found the stock's locking mechanism a bit finicky at times, which could be frustrating in high-pressure situations.
One of the standout features was the 100% Made in the USA craftsmanship. The build quality was top-notch, featuring a sturdy 6061 aluminum anodized black construction. Another impressive detail was the addition of QD points on both the mounting block and the buttplate, providing easy connection options for sling loops. The grooved buttplate offered a secure grip on my shoulder, and I appreciated the option to mount an optional rubber buttpad.
Overall, the Manticore Slider Stock for CZ Scorpion Evo was a reliable and stylish choice for my airsoft gun. While there were some minor drawbacks, the pros outweighed the cons in my experience.

🔗1911 Slide Recoil Buffers Set for Precision Protection

https://preview.redd.it/k97yq75qox3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b8ca3aaf2a95db1dc79f6c609f4985c6e20ce41f
I recently purchased the Ed Brown Slide Recoil Buffers 6-pack for my 1911, and I must say, the quality surpassed my expectations. These precision-molded polyurethane buffers fit perfectly on the recoil guide, preventing any unwanted metal-to-metal contact during firing. This not only makes the gun smoother to operate but also saves my frame from potential damage, making it a great investment.
Despite the high cost, the convenience and durability of these buffers make them worth the splurge. However, as with any product, it's essential not to expect miracles, and the true effectiveness will be discovered over time, as with any product of this nature.

🔗Heavy Duty 1911 Long Slide Kit for 9mm, 38, 40 Calibers

EGW Heavy Duty Slide Stop, a reliable addition to the Heavy Duty line of 1911 parts, has caught my attention for its stainless steel finish and durability. Machined from 4140 Steel, this slide stop not only provides a sleek and sturdy look but also handles the demands of daily use.
One aspect that stood out is the enhanced gripping capabilities due to the serrations on the pad. It provides a firm and secure grip, which I appreciated during practice sessions as it prevents the slide stop from slipping. However, one downside I noticed was the pin size, which felt a bit small and might need attention when installing or removing the slide stop.
In conclusion, the EGW Heavy Duty Slide Stop offers an attractive and highly functional alternative for those who value quality and durability. But, keep in mind the slightly smaller pin size while considering the best fit for your 1911.

🔗High-Quality Linear Guide Rail Kit for DIY Projects

https://preview.redd.it/uwh520xqox3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=93712153e8ee265464df5e7f82b9e4b0ad4ca23e
When it comes to DIY projects that require precision, having the right tools and materials is crucial. Recently, I tried out the VEVOR Linear Guide Rail Kit for my own CNC router project, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations!
One of the first things I noticed about this guide rail set was its high-quality materials. The carbon steel main axle, GCr15 bearing steel linear rail block, and aluminum alloy casing all contribute to the rigidity and durability of the product. The surface chrome plating treatment is not only aesthetically pleasing but also provides a corrosion-resistant barrier, ensuring the longevity of the components.
Another standout feature of this kit is how easy it is to assemble. With pre-drilled holes on the support rail mounts, I was able to secure the rail without any fuss. The complete sliding unit moves smoothly without deflection or excessive noise, making my CNC router operation more efficient and enjoyable.
However, I did encounter a minor issue with the friction of the rubber wipers on the carriage. While this may be a necessary compromise to protect the ball bearings, it did require a bit more force to move the entire assembly. But overall, I am satisfied with the performance of the VEVOR Linear Guide Rail Kit, and I highly recommend it to others looking for an affordable and high-quality solution for their DIY projects.

🔗1911 Long Slide Kit for Ultimate Pistol Performance

I had the opportunity to try out the LBE Slide for 17 Black, and my experience was quite impressive. As someone with a love for firearms, it was refreshing to see a product that prioritized both quality and reliability.
The durability of the slide was particularly noticeable in my daily routine, providing me with peace of mind that it would withstand the test of time. The build quality of the LBE Slide was exceptional, boasting precision manufacturing and high-quality components that seemed to effortlessly merge together.
However, there was one minor issue I encountered: the slide was designed for a specific type of firearm, limiting its universality. Despite this, it remained a reliable option for those looking to maintain or upgrade their 17 Black. Overall, the LBE Slide for 17 Black is a remarkable addition to any firearms enthusiast's arsenal, delivering on durability, reliability, and build quality while offering years of unwavering service.

🔗High Precision 1911 Linear Slide Rail Kit

I recently had the chance to put the VEVOR 2-pack HGR20 Linear Slide Rail to the test in my DIY CNC project, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The high-quality steel material made these linear guides look and feel durable, with the surface chrome plating adding a touch of beauty and anti-rust protection. What really stood out, though, was how effortless they were to install, especially with the steel support rail and pre-drilled holes for ease of mounting.
Of course, no product is perfect. I did encounter a slight issue with the low friction coefficient that made the movement a bit smoother than I would have preferred. However, this was a minor concern compared to the versatility of the CNC linear rail. I found it widely used in all sorts of precision machines that require high precision linear movement.
In conclusion, the VEVOR 2-pack HGR20 Linear Slide Rail kit is a reliable and convenient solution for anyone looking to upgrade their CNC project. Despite the minor friction issue, the durability, ease of installation, and versatility of the product make it a worthwhile investment.

Imagine, if you will, walking into a gun store, and catching a glimpse of this beauty. This 1911 long slide kit is a marvel of engineering, crafted with the finest stainless steel. The finish perfectly complements the sleek design, while the 9mm/. 38 Super, . 200'' barrel ensures an accurate and reliable shot every time.

Whether you're a seasoned sharpshooter or a novice, this commander model is an investment worth making. This piece of equipment is not just a tool, but an art form, handcrafted to exacting standards. The 1911 long slide kit is more than just a weapon, it's an experience, as you stand at the range, focusing on your target, and feeling the satisfying click of the hammer on a perfect shot.
Despite its grandeur, this commander model is not without its drawbacks. The weight, though a testament to its strength, can be a burden in those long shooting sessions. But it's a price worth paying for the unparalleled accuracy and craftsmanship. A gun like this is a lifestyle, a journey, and an adventure all rolled into one, waiting to be explored by the discerning shooter or collector.

🔗Canik Full-Size Magwell Kit for 1911 Long Slide

https://preview.redd.it/4karwcfsox3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1bb2e8813d20666aa945dde37ac6020f7e725b9
The Canik TCS Full Size Magwell Black is an intriguing addition to the line of high-quality firearms designed by Canik, a world-renowned brand for their intelligent engineering. Having the opportunity to use it in my daily life, I must say it offers a unique blend of style and functionality.
The most striking feature I noticed is its sleek and streamlined black magwell design, which not only adds an aesthetic touch but also improves grip accuracy. The black finish is robust and seems to withstand outdoor elements without much wear, which is a plus for those who want their firearms to last longer.
However, one element that I found to be less than ideal is the need for modification before it can be used with aftermarket magazine base plate extensions. The inner lips need to be carefully filed or sanded down for a proper fit. This could be a potential drawback for some users who might find it frustrating or time-consuming.
Overall, the Canik TCS Full Size Magwell Black offers a captivating blend of style and precision, with its distinctive black design and robust finish. However, the modification requirement might pose a challenge for those seeking a hassle-free experience. Despite this minor drawback, the product still manages to impress with its unique features and performance.

🔗OD Green Arc Rail Kit for 1911 Long Slide

For the past few weeks, I've been using the United Shield Arc Rail Kit, OD Green, and I must say, it's made quite an impact on my daily life. Its sleek design, both visually and practically, stands out to me. The kit's compatibility with 1911 Long Slide is a bonus, making it even more versatile.
While some may find the green color a bit attention-grabbing, I secretly love the pop it adds to my handgun. It's a subtle but noticeable design choice that makes the gun stand out at the range or during practice sessions. I appreciate its robust construction; it's built to last, and it does so without any issues.
However, like many things in life, this product isn't perfect. There's a minor learning curve when it comes to installing it, especially if you're new to this type of kit. But, once you get the hang of it, the process becomes smooth and efficient. Overall, the United Shield Arc Rail Kit is a great addition to any 1911 Long Slide, especially if you're looking to upgrade and personalize your handgun.

🔗Wilson Officer Full Length Guide Rod Kit for 1911 Pistols

When I first heard about the Wilson 25co Officer Full Length Guide Rod for my 1911 pistol, I was intrigued by the idea of improving my pistol's performance. I've used it for quite some time now, and let me tell you, it's made a significant difference.
One of the standout features of this guide rod is its sturdy steel construction, giving my pistol a robust and reliable feel. The silver finish also adds a touch of elegance to the overall aesthetic. However, it did require some minor modifications to the slide, which was a bit of an inconvenience.
The performance enhancements were evident almost immediately after installation. The accuracy and reliability of my 1911 have improved, making it a more enjoyable and trustworthy companion for my shooting adventures. The reversible plug and single spring were simple yet effective additions to the upgrade.
Overall, I've found the Wilson 25co Officer Full Length Guide Rod to be a solid investment for any 1911 enthusiast. It's not without its minor issues, but the pros undoubtedly outweigh the cons. This product truly shines when it comes to enhancing the performance and reliability of a classic 1911 pistol.

After adding this EGW Heavy Duty Slide Stop to my 1911 pistol, I couldn't help but notice the enhanced gripping capabilities it provides, thanks to the serrations on the pad. Made from 4140 steel and featuring a blued carbon steel finish, it has a sleek look that really sets it apart from other slide stops on the market.
However, one downside I've experienced is that it slightly increases the overall weight of the pistol. Nevertheless, the 1911 Long Slide Kit is a worthwhile investment, as it provides a durable, stylish, and reliable solution for improving the functionality of your gun.

I recently got my hands on the 1911 Long Slide Kit, a product that quickly became a staple in my daily life. The kit came with everything I needed for a smooth and efficient installation process, and it was a breeze to put together.
The standout feature for me was the metal recoil rod/spring set up that allowed me to customize it with different springs (bought separately), giving me the freedom to tailor it to my preferences. However, one downside was that the slide kit didn't come with an instruction manual, which made it a bit challenging for beginners. Overall, the Long Slide Kit proved to be a reliable and cost-effective option, especially with the fast shipping and excellent customer service I received.

I had the pleasure of using the Springfield XD OSP Slide Assembly for my 9mm handgun recently, and I must say, it was a game-changer. I've always been a fan of customizing my firearms, and this slide assembly delivered on that front. The fit was perfect, and the inclusion of the OSP plate for optic compatibility was a welcomed addition. The anodized finish, available in black, gave it a sleek and durable look.
However, while the slide assembly fit seamlessly, installation wasn't quite as smooth. The instructions could have been more clear, and the process took a bit longer than expected. Nonetheless, once installed, the Springfield XD OSP Slide Assembly performed incredibly well and enhanced my shooting experience. It's definitely worth considering as an upgrade for your 9mm XD handgun.

Buyer's Guide

2024.06.01 12:02 Gloomy-Beginning-218 Wizard tries to murder another party member in their sleep, fails, apologizes, then creates a new character and then attempts the same thing again.

Context: This was one of my first online games as a DM. I ran a campaign with the typical "necromancy magic is seen as bad" trope due to massive events in the campaign world (that led to the first Lich being created and using the war between 3 nations to fuel his undead army, until all 3 nations realized the threat and banded together to defeat the army of the dead and supposedly destroyed the Lich). With that knowledge in mind, one player asked to create a school of necromancy wizard (tiefling). I said sure, but let them know that if they were to use necromancy within a village, town or captial city that it would draw attention to them and most likely result in their character being arrested, or even attacked. The player said they were fine with that, but asked if they could be Lawful Evil. Now, this should have been the first red flag for this player, but I said that I would allow it but only if their actions didn't directly target or effect the other player characters. They agreed.
Now to give some more context, the other players character's consisted of:
I mentioned to the Wizard player that the paladins might not be pleased with their character if they witness them using necromancy, again, to which the wizard player said that would be fine. The second red flag was the wizard's backstory. One of the major NPC's in this campaign was a High Elf Prince, who was a powerful Archmage and a hero to the elves (inspired by Teclis from Warhammer), and the player wanted to include this NPC in their backstory, but frame the elf prince as a villian, having him mysteriously kill off the tiefling's adopted father. Now, I should have suggested perhaps another NPC of less significance to the world to take his place, but I thought, "what the hell??", I could throw an interesting twist on it and have the wizard's foster father actually be a bad guy. So, I let it be.
Onto the story: The party were in the Elven captial city when the wizard asks me as one of their "errands" that they want to visit the slums of the city. So they travel there and the wizard sees a bunch of dirty kids playing together. The wizard then walks over to a halfling girl, and begins to mesmerize her with prestidigitation effects. He asked about her quality of life (I thought he was going to give her some money or something like that), so she shares with him that she is an orphan and lives on the street. The wizard offers her food and says that if she comes with him, he will give her a better life and teach her how to use magic. Now at the time, I wasn't sure what his intentions were, so I was being very cautious in this moment, so I asked him to roll an insight check as she was looking at him with doubt in her mind. He succeeds and I share that she has doubts about his sincerity. I ask him to roll a persuasion check with a 20 DC and he makes it with a high roll. So, she agrees to go with him on the promise that he teaches her magic. When the wizard returned to the party, they were surprised and not very keen on having a young girl accompany them for their next adventure, but they allowed it after they made the wizard promise to keep her well out of harms way when danger arises.
The party arrive at the entrance to a long, and fairly dangerous dungeon crawl. In the first battle encounter, the wizard tells his "apprentice" to attack the nearest enemy instead of running away, like the party had agreed on. Now the "apprentice" isn't able to do much (as a lvl 1 wizard), and is subsequently attacked and falls unconcious and the party began to panic. The party were able to swiftly defeat the remaining enemies and heal the halfling girl. Now, when she came to, she was terrified and had a full on panic attack and wanted to leave after almost dying. The party agreed that she should not be with the party and should return to her home. This angered the wizard (and the player), who was not pleased when the party all voted to send her home. They were able to do so as another NPC was accompanying the party, and they escorted the girl back.
Now comes the kicker. The wizard player dm's me and says that he is not happy with what happened. I tell him that I had already spoken to him about the other player characters possibly not agreeing with his decision, and that the wizard was "okay with that". The wizard player doesn't reply. So I thought that the matter has been resolved. NOPE!!! Out of nowhere, the wizard states that during the night whilst on his "watch", he casts mold earth multiple times during the night and burries the oath of ancients paladin alive (as he was the voice of reason that was consistantly raising the fact that the halfling girl would not be safe). Now by this point in the session, the majority of the players as well as myself were quite frustrated with this player, as he had tried to meta before and say things like, "it would work in real life" when he attempted to turn events in his favor over and over again.
I told the group that we're going to take a 10 minute break before anything else happened. I spoke with the oath of ancients paladin player and asked him what his opinion is on the matter was and if what he thought I should do/should I even allow the wizard to attempt it? The oath of ancients player says that he was happy for me to let the wizard try as if they failed and the paladin would quickly "solve" the issue.
So I messaged the wizard player and confirmed that they're certain that they want to still try it. They agreed confidently and stated that mold earth was "a somatic only cantrip" and that the paladin "won't even know that I'm casting it until their suffocating under the ground".
I messaged the group and asked them to come back to the discord chat and we jumped back in. I asked the paladin to roll a perception check, setting the DC at 10, as I reasoned that the paladin would still feel the earth being molded over and around them. The paladin rolls a natural 20. So the paladin awakens, and sees that the wizard is trying to smother them. The paladin player attempts to intimidate with the wizard and convince them not to "test his patience", but the wizard player was furious and was trying to make up more excuses on how the perception roll should have been at disadvantage.
I stated that my ruling stood, and asked them what they want to do, to which the wizard left and never returned.
I had a long conversation with the wizard player after the session and explained that I did warn them in advance that the other player characters might not agree with their actions. The player seemed strangely calm and collected and asked if they could create another character to replace the tiefling wizard (this should have been the 3rd red flag). I agreed but specified this time that necromancer and evil alignment was off the table this time. The player agreed and then createed a high elf blade-singer wizard (and min maxed it as much as they could). They gave this new character a compelling backstory and I was pleased with it. So the next session, I introduced their character to the party (the party had left the dungeon to find safety and heal the halfling girl before sending her home), and the first thing the player does was declared that they moved to attack the oath of ancients paladin, as soon as they saw him.
Dumbfounded, I ask him why? He respond with, "the paladin threatened (name of the tiefling character) and I take threats deadly seriously".
IMPORTANT NOTE: This was not in the backstory that they provided me with! And I mean, not even the slightest hint, nor was it eluded to!
I pause the game and ask the wizard player to join me in a seperate chat, and asked them how could their new character possibly know who the paladin was and how they would know the tiefling, as the two characters had never met. He said that they would have passed each other and he would have shared it with this stranger. To which I said, yeah no that's not what you sent me and you're not just gonna change your backstory on the fly just so you can attempt to kill the paladin. He got incredibly angry and started yelling about me not letting him play his character how he wants to play them.
The conclusion: So to wrap up this long post. The player apologised to the group, asked for one more chance as he like the group. I asked the others individually what their thoughts on it were, they agreed to give him one more chance, so I did. And then 3 sessions later, that same player attempted to attack the ranger because he made a funny comment about the tielfing wizard (all in character). After that final straw, the player was subsquently removed from the campaign.
On a happier note: This campaign has been running for almost 5 years now and is beginning to come to a close as the players are level 19 (soon to be 20) and have accomplished incredible feats in the world.

2024.06.01 12:02 Legal-Treat-5582 Why Red doesn't talk

There've been dozens of theories over the years attempting to explain Red's disdain for talking. Sure, it could be meant to reflect how he was a mostly silent protagonist when we played as him, but that'd just be the out of universe reason; in-universe, it's still unclear. This was only made even more noticeable by Masters giving all the other protagonists voices and personalities, while Red remained as silent as ever.
It's not like Masters didn't do anything with Red, though. In fact, it did somewhat address his lack of talking in his 'A Day with Synga Suit Red' story.
Flint: "Speaking of... How do you give commands to your Pokemon during battles?"
Red: "... ... ... ... ... ... Words are unnecessary!"
Flint: "A bond so strong you don't even need to say anything... That's how in sync they are!"
Another thing Masters establishes about Red is that he's easily the most battle obsessed guy on Pasio.
Misty: "I mean, we ARE talking about the guy who wanted to focus on battling so much that he holed himself up in Mt. Silver!"
Professor Oak: "Red doesn't speak much, but he more than makes up for it through his actions. His passion for battle burns brighter than anyone else's. You can see it in his eyes."
Lucas: "It's true that Red's been spotted wherever intense battles happen to be. If we have a battle he'd want to join, we could get Red to come to us!"
Blue: "Pffft... It was easy. The fake wasn't giving off any of Red's usual "battle me right here, right now" vibes!"
Does seem pretty fitting that Red spent so much time battling, where he didn't need to talk, that he unintentionally stopped speaking much in general.
But at the same time, that doesn't make a ton of sense. Strong bonds are the norm for pretty much every character who's not an antagonist, while there's tons of other characters who are also obsessed with battles. How could characters like the other protagonists and various champions have not also reached this level?
Perhaps it's not necessarily Red's strong bonds or love of battle, but an actual special power that allows him to communicate wordlessly with his Pokemon. It'd certainty explain why Red's unique in this regard.
In fact, there's a decently fitting type of power that could be responsible: psychic power. For instance, as Sabrina tells us, she can use her powers to communicate with her Pokemon telepathically.
"It's one of my psychic powers."
(...)
"I can also directly communicate with my Pokemon without using my voice during battles."
However, this has two obvious problems. For starters, if Red's a psychic who can communicate telepathically, how come he doesn't talk to other people with this ability instead of going completely silent?
That's simple enough to answer. Either this ability can't be used on humans, or it requires a particularly strong bond. We get a good example of this during an event in Masters where Sabrina teams up with Volkner. She uses her abilities to help support him during battle, which he takes notice of.
Volkner: "Your support really helped me out! It was like you could tell beforehand what I was going to do. Is that your precognition at work?"
Sabrina: "Yes, it is."
However, nothing is ever said about telepathy, which you'd think Sabrina would heavily utilize with Volkner if she could, or at least, that Volkner would comment about it if it was.
But there's also another potential problem, though it's also simple to answer. Some may wonder why Red would be so used to not talking that'd he go completely silent at nearly all times, when Sabrina has the same ability, yet still talks quite a bit in comparison.
As mentioned, Red is easily the most battle obsessed person on Pasio, while Sabrina makes it pretty clear she's not the biggest fan of battling. Clearly she wouldn't be using this ability nearly as much as Red is.
"I don't enjoy battling, but it's my duty as a Gym Leader to confer Badges on anyone who has proven him- or herself worthy."
(...)
"I dislike battling, but if you wish to..."
Red being a psychic could also explain his stoic attitude as well, since controlling psychic powers largely seems to stem from one's own emotional state. This is most notably demonstrated by Caitlin.
"Haven't I ever told you? I possess psychic powers. When I was younger, I found it quite difficult to manage them, you see... When I lost a Pokemon battle, the crushing emotions I felt would cause my powers to spin out of control."
(...)
"As I moved into adulthood, I was able to control my emotions better and better. Eventually, I felt in control enough to compete in Pokemon battles all by myself."
Perhaps that's the real reason Red isolated himself on Mt. Silver. Maybe he discovered he had dangerous psychic abilities, so he trained in a remote area to control his powers, but everyone assumed he was just training his Pokemon; it's not like Red's going to speak up and correct them.
However, there's a few problems with this idea. The most obvious is how Red's never demonstrated or been implied to have any type of supernatural ability like this aside from his potential telepathy.
Another is how it seems like people can't just become psychics, they have to be born as one. Caitlin implies this, as does Avery's League Card.
"Avery comes from a long-standing family of psychics."
(...)
"Ever since he was a child, Avery could freely move things with his mind but lacked other skills, such as teleportation or telepathy. This has caused the rest of his family to label him as a disappointment."
Which would be one thing if Red was always silent, but the Copycat of Kanto indicates Red used to be quite talkative.
"Hi! Do you like Pokemon? Uh, no, I just asked you. Huh? You're strange!"
Not only that, but Avery's League Card also indicates telepathy may be a higher-level psychic ability, making Red's lack of other powers more noticeable.
However, there is another kind of special ability that could explain all this, one that may even be related to psychics as well, but...it doesn't come from the most reliable source.
Conquest's canonicity is pretty vague. It could go either way, but does steer towards non-canon. Doesn't make it the best source for theories, but hey, why not give it a few minutes of spotlight either way?
So, there aren't any Poke Balls in Conquest, which would normally make it quite difficult to catch and battle Pokemon. Luckily, there's a way around this. In Ransei, the setting of Conquest, there are individuals with a special kind of power that lets them overcome this lack of Poke Balls. I'll let the game do the talking.
Narration: "The Ransei region... An area inhabited by Warriors, those privileged few capable of communicating wordlessly with Pokemon."
Game Manual: "Among the people of Ransei are those known as Warriors, who possess the unique ability to communicate wordlessly, or "link," with Pokemon. Warriors are revered and respected by the people of the 17 kingdoms of Ransei."
Sounds pretty similar to Red, doesn't it?
Conquest doesn't comment much about how someone becomes a Warrior. But whether or not it's a skill that can be gained or something one has to be born with, both could still apply to Red. The former speaks for itself, and the latter, well, Red would only slowly realize his ability after spending a lot of time with Pokemon and noticing he doesn't need to issue commands like other trainers.
Hell, if Warriors are more directly tied to Ransei, perhaps that could also explain why Red loves battling so much. Maybe the drive for battle that was near omnipresent in the olden days of Ransei is something carried on and naturally more prominent in modern day Warriors. Though that is a lot more speculative, of course.
As mentioned earlier too, it's not out of the question Warriors are simply another form of psychic ability. Though like I also mentioned, with Conquest's questionable canonicity, the whole Warrior aspect of this theory is rather shaky in general. Still, if not a Warrior, it's always possible Red could be a low-level psychic that only happened to develop telepathy.

2024.06.01 12:01 Himekat Do you have a JR Pass or IC Card (Suica/Pasmo/etc.) question? Start here! (Monthly Thread - June 01, 2024)

Got a question about JR Passes or IC cards (Suica/Pasmo/ICOCA/etc)? Read through the information below and feel free to ask additional questions in this thread! Please see here%20question%3F%22&restrict_sr=1&sort=new) for old versions of this megathread.

JR Pass Info

The nationwide JR Pass is a travel pass that allows train and bus travel for a fixed cost over a certain period of days on Japan Railways (JR) services. For a comprehensive source of information on the pass, check out our wiki page or Japan Guide’s JR Pass page.
The JR Pass can be purchased in one of two ways: * Online at the official site * Online from an authorized retailer (also often called a "third-party seller")
There is no way to be certain if a JR Pass will be valuable for you without knowing your exact itinerary and doing the math out. If you are trying to work out whether a JR Pass is the right choice for you, here are some calculators: * JRPass.com’s calculator * Japan Guide’s calculator * Daisuki calculator
As of October 1, 2023, the nationwide JR Pass and regional JR Passes have increased in price significantly. The price increase makes it so that there are very few itineraries that the nationwide JR Pass will be worth it for. For more information and discussion on the price increase, see this search result of prior discussion threads.

IC Card Info (Suica, Pasmo, ICOCA, etc.)

General Information

An IC card is a stored-value card used to pay for transportation in Japan. That means you can load the card with money and use the card to pay for trains, buses, etc by tapping the card at train station gates or fare readers. Even if you have a JR Pass or other travel pass, an IC card is recommended because it can be used across transportation systems operated by many different transit companies, as well as for payment at convenience stores, restaurants, shops, vending machines, and other locations.
For tourism purposes, there are nine major IC cards and all of them are completely interchangeable and usable in each other's regions, so it doesn’t really matter which one you get. Where you start your travels in Japan often dictates what IC card you get, since different IC cards originate in different regions, but then you'll be able to use it during most of your traveling, even if you move to a different region. For general information on IC cards, see our wiki or Japan Guide’s IC card page.

Physical IC Cards

Currently, sales of regular Suica, named Suica, regular Pasmo, and named Pasmo cards are technically suspended due to a semiconductor shortage (except children's versions and commuter versions). That said, there have been recent reports in early 2024 of people getting regular Suica cards at some stations in Tokyo.
If you are landing in/starting your trip in Tokyo, tourists can still get:
A Welcome Suica or Pasmo Passport acts exactly like a regular IC card, with two exceptions: it is only valid for 28 days, and it cannot be refunded. Please see this thread and its top comment for information.
If you are starting your trip in another region (e.g., Kansai, Kyushu, etc.), sales of their regional IC cards are unaffected by Suica and Pasmo shortages. Please see this page to identify which card you'll get, and it should be available at airports and train stations in those regions.

Digital IC Cards

If you are looking to get a digital IC card, please note that digital Suica, Pasmo, and ICOCA cards can only be used on iPhones, Apple Watches, or Japanese Android phones (this means the phone was purchased in Japan). For instructions on how to get a digital IC card in Apple Wallet, see here. You do not need the Suica or Pasmo apps (which are all in Japanese) in order to get a digital IC card. It can be loaded and used entirely through Apple Wallet.
Please note that not all credit cards work to load a digital IC card. Amex cards seem to have the highest success rate, but Mastercards and Visas can be flaky. Although Visa previously didn't work at all, as of December 2023, loading a digital Suica with some Visa credits cards seems to work, although not all of them. See this At A Distance blog post for more info and updates. It is not uncommon to not have any of your cards work to load a digital IC card, and if that happens, you might need to stick with a physical IC card.
Keep in mind that digital IC cards cannot be refunded (that requires a Japanese bank account), so you will need to burn down whatever value you’ve loaded onto them before the end of your trip.

IC Card FAQ

I have an old IC card from a previous trip. Can I use it on my upcoming trip?
IC cards are valid for ten years after their last date of use, so if you received the card and/or used the card in/after 2014, it’ll work.
Can more than one person use the same IC card for travel?
No. All travelers who want to use IC cards on transit need to have their own card. Most transit in Japan is distance-based, and the card is “keeping track” of your journey, and it can only keep track of one at a time.
Are there children’s IC cards? How do I get one for my child?
Children under six years old can ride transit for free. If your child is between the ages of six and eleven, you can get a children’s IC card from JR offices by presenting the child’s passport for proof of age. There are also Welcome Suica and Pasmo Passport versions for children. If you are getting IC cards at the airport, they are able to provide children’s cards.
Can I load money onto a physical IC card with a credit card?
No. Physical IC cards can only be loaded with cash, which can be done at ticket machines in train stations, convenience stores, and 7-Eleven ATMs.
I have a physical IC card and I want to transfer it to my phone. If I do that, can I still use the physical card?
No. Once you “move” the physical card to your phone and turn it into a digital card, the physical card becomes invalid. It cannot be used or reactivated.
I’m landing in Tokyo, but then I’m going to Osaka and Kyoto. Do I need a suica in Tokyo and then an ICOCA in Osaka/Kyoto?
No. Once you have one of the major IC cards, it can be used pretty much anywhere. There are some exceptions to this, but they are mostly on individual lines or in specific rural regions. If you are traveling to major tourism cities such as Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, etc., you are likely fine with whatever IC card you originally received upon arrival.
Should I buy an IC card online before arriving in Japan?
If you want to get an IC card online from a reputable vendor, there’s nothing wrong with that. Some of the authorized JR Pass website (as well as other websites targeted at tourists) will sell them bundled with other purchases. That said, there isn’t really any reason to get your card ahead of time. If you’re landing in Tokyo, the 28-day Welcome Suica or Pasmo Passport is good enough for most tourists. And if you do end up in the country for longer than 28 days, you can simply get an IC card from another region once you’re in one (such as the ICOCA from Kansai).
Help! I tried to load my digital IC card through Apple Wallet and the transaction didn't go through! What do I do?
To start, did you attempt to create it/load it overnight in Japan? The digital system goes down for maintenance from about 1am to 5am JST, so try again during Japan's daytime hours. Beyond that, Visa cards often cannot be used to load digital IC cards. Mastercards sometimes have issues too, depending on the issuing bank. Unfortunately, if you can't find a digital card + credit card combo that works for you, you may not be able to use digital IC cards.

Unlocking the Secrets of Your Heart: Expert Solutions for Love Problems in the USA

Love Problem Solution Specialist in USA Love is a mysterious and often unpredictable force that can bring immense joy and fulfillment, but also heartache and uncertainty. In the United States, where love and relationships are often deeply intertwined with societal expectations and cultural norms, navigating the complexities of the heart can be particularly challenging. Whether you’re struggling to find love, working to overcome the aftermath of a breakup,
or simply seeking to deepen and strengthen your current relationship, it’s easy to feel lost and uncertain about the path ahead. That’s why, in this comprehensive guide, we’ll be delving into the expert solutions and strategies that can help you unlock the secrets of your heart, overcome common love problems, and cultivate a more authentic, fulfilling, and loving connection with yourself and others.

The importance of understanding your heart’s desires

The journey to unlocking the secrets of your heart is a deeply personal and intimate one. It’s a path that requires courage, self-awareness, and a willingness to confront the complexities of the human experience. At the heart of this journey lies the understanding of your own desires, both in the present and in the past. It’s the acknowledgment of what brings you joy, what fills your soul with purpose, and what makes your heart skip a beat.
Understanding your heart’s desires is not just about knowing what you want, but also about understanding what drives you, what motivates you, and what gives you a sense of fulfillment. It’s about recognizing the patterns and habits that have developed over time, and how they may be influencing your relationships and overall well-being.
In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, and forget to listen to the whispers of our own hearts. We may find ourselves in relationships that no longer serve us, or struggling to connect with others on a deep and meaningful level. But by taking the time to understand our heart’s desires, we can begin to break free from the patterns that hold us back, and awaken to a deeper sense of purpose and fulfillment. Love Problem Solution Specialist in USA
In this section, we’ll explore the importance of understanding your heart’s desires, and how it can be a game-changer in your love life. We’ll examine the ways in which self-awareness can help you navigate the complexities of relationships, and provide expert solutions for overcoming common love problems in the USA.

Common love problems in the USA

Love is a complex and multifaceted emotion that can bring immense joy and happiness, but it can also be a source of great pain and heartache. In the USA, it’s not uncommon for couples to face a range of challenges that can put a strain on their relationship. One of the most common love problems in the USA is the issue of communication breakdown. This can manifest in a variety of ways, from failing to listen to each other’s needs and desires, to not being able to express oneself effectively. When couples are unable to communicate effectively, it can lead to feelings of resentment, frustration, and isolation.
Another common love problem in the USA is the issue of trust. When one partner feels like they are being dishonest or unfaithful, it can be incredibly difficult to rebuild and maintain a sense of trust. This can be especially true in today’s digital age, where social media and other forms of technology can make it easier for individuals to engage in secretive behavior. Love Problem Solution Specialist in USA
Lack of intimacy and emotional connection is also a common love problem in the USA. As couples navigate the stresses and challenges of everyday life, it’s easy to let romance and intimacy fall by the wayside. However, this can lead to feelings of disconnection and loneliness, which can be incredibly damaging to a relationship.
Finally, the issue of differing values and expectations is a common love problem in the USA. When couples come from different backgrounds or have different perspectives on what is important in a relationship, it can be difficult to find common ground and navigate the challenges that arise.

2024.06.01 12:01 magictcgmods Daily Questions Thread - Ask All Your Magic Related Questions Here!

This is a place for asking simple questions that might not deserve their own thread. For example, if you have a question about a rules interaction, want sleeve and accessory recommendations, or suggestions for your new deck, then this is the place for you.
We encourage that you post any questions that you may have concerning Magic the Gathering here rather than make a separate thread for each question, though for now we won't require that you do so.
Rules Questions
Rules questions and interactions are allowed to be posted here, but if you need an answer quickly it may be best to use a dedicated resource like the 24/7 Magic the Gathering Rules Chat.
Deckbuilding Questions
If you're trying to get help with a deck, it is recommended that you post your decklist to a deckbuilding website so that it is easier to view. Some popular sites are Aetherhub, Archidekt, Deckbox, Deckstats, Moxfield, MtgGoldfish, and TappedOut.
Additionally, please include some description of what you are trying to accomplish. Don't just give us a decklist with no explanation, and don't ask extremely vague questions such as "what cards should I add to my deck to make it better?", because it's hard to give good advice in those cases. Let us know details, the more the better. Are you building with a particular strategy or theme in mind? Are there any non-obvious combo lines or synergies that people should be aware of? Are you struggling with a particular matchup, or are you finding yourself missing consistency in an important area, and need some help specifically for it? Let us know.
Commonly Asked Questions
I opened a card from a different set in my booster pack, is this unusual?
Don't worry, this is completely normal. If you opened a set booster, you have a small chance of obtaining a bonus card from a previous set. This is an extra card that does not replace any of the other cards in your pack, and is from a curated set of past hits that Wizards of the Coast has selected, which they call "The List".
You can view the contents of The List on Wizards of the Coast's official website. For example, the contents of The List for Streets of New Capenna boosters can be found here.
My foil card has a shooting start symbol over the bottom left. I can't find anything about it online.
All old-bordered foils have the shooting star symbol. Most sites that display card images just overlay a generic foil graphic over all foil cards, which doesn't include the shooting star. Your card is normal.

2024.06.01 12:01 Lenic707 [Hobby] Noob Environment designer looking for like-minded people who want to learn/work together

TL;DR: Want to find kind-hearted, respectful people to learn alongside and hopefully even work on fantasy rpg projects with
I am not new to game design but i would still consider myself to be inexperienced because i have been dabbling with environment/level design in UE for the past couple years but i haven't gotten really far just because lack of motivation and a solid goal to reach for. also just a lack of game design friends.
I tried INAT before and i met some cool and diverse people and made a game design discord server with them and even started working on prototypes but everyone had a different dream game they wanted to make so it didn't really last long so i want to find people who want to work on the same types of games i do which is unlikely but i figured i'd post just in case i get lucky.
The types of games i would want to work on would be ones that include, D&D-esque fantasy settings(or even future-fantasy settings), magic systems, life and combat skills, tab-targeted combat or soulslike combat, character customization, stories/quests with a least a little bit of depth to them(not the generic fetch quests), npc's with depth and character, different nations/cultures, and technology affected by the presence of magic.
The main goal i would want to work towards is a fantasy classless rpg that is heavily skill and exploration based that puts emphasis on just exploring the world and picking up skills as well as leveling said skills along the way to allow you to build your character the way you want ideally without the motivation to just choose a meta. think games like Project Gorgon or Kenshi if you've heard of them.
I've always been in love with game environments, i started with WoW and Skyrim and went from there. Ever since i was young i wanted to create a world that gave that same feeling of adventure and wonderlust, i love mmorpgs specifically but they have become very similar in that most put the player character on rails and heavily guide the player along a certain path which is not a bad thing, ffxiv does that and it's a fantastic game but i also love ttrpgs like D&D and Pathfinder that give players the freedom to weave their own story. I'm not saying i want to make an mmorpg as that is a laughably unrealistic goal to give myself, but i want to make a game that evokes the same feelings.
I'm not looking to immediately get to work on a game but i want to find like minded people who want to learn together and practice working together. Also we don't have to work on my idea specifically but i would prefer staying in the same ballpark. (i.e. classless skills, combat, magic, some sort of fantasy setting)
The tools i would prefer to use and have experience in are Unreal Engine and Git.
It doesn't really matter what field you want to specialize in as long as you're passionate, willing to learn, want/able to contribute, and want to just have fun on the journey.
Morals are important as well, i would like to work with people who are respectful and keep an open mind, in other words people who dont hate on lgbtq+ or aren't misogynistic or bigoted.
Reply in the comments or dm me if you're interested in working on projects together. Also it'd be appreciated if you tell me a bit about yourself in your comment/message. I would also appreciate if you only reply if you share a similar enough goal and if you share the same morals, i dont want to waste your time or mine if we dont share a common focus or if we wouldn't get along.

2024.06.01 12:00 barkiny2199 [Browser][2010s?] kinda DnD style game that i can't remember the name of

Platform: Browser
Genre: DnD style (you had a character sheet with stats to choose when levelling up)
Estimated year of release: release could probably date back to 2000-2010s but i played it around 2015 i think
Graphics/art style: The site had this yellow parchmenty color palette with the intention of really making it look like old scribblings on a scroll i think but not sure if i remember this correctly. The art style was meant to be brutal and realistic with your character having a detailed but not too realish picture of gladiator and even though not sure i think the monsters you fought like rats for example had their realistic pictures as well.
Notable characters: you had the option to choose how your character looked like at the start but the main theme was always gladiators, what i mean is half naked man with armor pieces and weapons. I only recall fighting rats and seeing their picture(?) but no other characters than them
Notable gameplay mechanics: As i said it was kinda DnDish where u created a character and it gave you your character sheet with stats to level up and choose from. The combat also took place in an action log where it wrote "Anon attacked for 5 dmg" or "Rat took 6 dmg" and such but no animation or anything played it was all written out. You also got equipments i think from defeating monster and could equip them but im not really sure about that
Other details: It was my friend who recommended the game to me so I think there may be some online friendship mechanic that I was not aware of at the moment but again definetly not sure about this

When I first got my hands on the Viridian E Series Green Laser Sight, I was thrilled to see how easily it mounted to my Taurus G2. The ambidextrous on/off button made it a breeze for both left-handed and right-handed individuals to use.
One of the things that stood out to me was the 5-minute auto shut-off feature, ensuring that I didn't accidentally leave the laser sight on while not in use. However, I did notice that the green laser wasn't as visible in bright sunlight as the red laser counterparts. Nonetheless, overall, I found this product to be a reliable and user-friendly choice for my every day concealed carry needs.

It's also super easy to adjust the beam thickness and spot size, making it perfect for a variety of activities from camping and hiking to hunting and even running. As an avid hunter, I was elated when I stumbled upon the MKS Laser Kit. Eager to try it out, I grabbed my trusty 40/45 carbine and attached the laser sight to my Picatinny rail. The moment I powered it up, I felt a sense of exhilaration knowing it provided a 4mw laser beam that could reach up to 300 yards in pitch dark.
When I took it out on my next hunting expedition, I was pleasantly surprised by its weight, at just 3.8 oz, it didn't burden my carbine. Moreover, I appreciated the convenience of a lithium cell 3V battery that could last up to 20 hours. However, one drawback I did experience during the cold hunting nights was its tendency to drain the battery power faster when temperatures dropped.
In terms of durability, it held up well but the lens, being exposed to the elements, could use a protective casing. Despite this minor flaw, the MKS Laser Kit was a practical and fun addition to my hunting adventures, serving as a reliable guide for a clean kill.

🔗Viridian E-Series Green Laser Sight for Taurus GX4 Crossbow

https://preview.redd.it/d7iem9wbox3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48334cccd147e41dc7071cc2c17448f8fadd2ed8
The Viridian E Series Grn LSR Taurus GX4 has been a lifesaver in my everyday concealed carry routine. The laser sight is so convenient, and it makes targeting a breeze. The ambidextrous on/off button and the 5-minute auto shut off feature adds extra safety measures that I appreciate.
One of my favorite aspects of this product is the durability. I've had it for a while now, and it still works like new. However, I've noticed that sometimes the laser can be difficult to see in bright sunlight, which can be a little frustrating.
Overall, I'd highly recommend the Viridian E Series Grn LSR Taurus GX4 to anyone in the market for a high-quality crossbow laser sight. It's a reliable and convenient product that has become an essential part of my daily routine.

🔗InfiRay Outdoor ILR-1000-2 Infrared Laser Rangefinding Module

I recently gave the IRAYUSA InfiRay ILR-1000-2 LSR RF a try for my hunting adventures, and I must say, it's been a game-changer. This little guy seamlessly integrates with my HYBRID Series thermal weapon sights via USB-C, providing real-time range data and a firing solution on a custom drop-compensating reticle. It's like having a personal laser rangefinder and ballistic solver all in one compact, lightweight package.
One feature that stood out to me was the ease of use, even with gloves on. The Picatinny Quick-Detach Mount and simplified controls make it a breeze to operate, even in low-light conditions. Plus, the rugged 6061 aluminum construction ensures durability and waterproofing, so I can trust it to perform in any weather.
The only downside I've experienced so far is the need for a USB-C cable to power and data transfer, which can be a hassle when you're in the middle of a hunt. But overall, the InfiRay ILR-1000-2 LSR RF has significantly improved my accuracy and confidence when it comes to long-range shooting. Highly recommended for any serious hunter or shooter.

🔗David White Digital Laser Sight Theodolite for Precise Angle Measurement

https://preview.redd.it/e7l5x8dcox3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bbc311ac7963011380e4b7a8e17f6261d64e50af
The David White 5-Second Optical Sight Digital Theodolite with Laser Plummet has been a game changer for me when it comes to sighting and alignment. The laser beam built into the aperture makes for easy and accurate alignment, and the simple push button functions provide precise LCD digital readouts. I especially appreciate the incremental encoding detection system with dual digital displays and the automatic power shut-off feature.
However, one minor drawback I've experienced is that the coaxial tangent and clamp screws could use some improvement in terms of ease of use in sighting and alignment. The built-in battery pack is a great addition, but I wish the process of attaching and detaching it was a bit smoother. Despite these minor setbacks, the product's water-resistant, sealed construction has been a saving grace, ensuring that it can withstand various weather conditions. Overall, the David White 46-D8897 5-Sec. Laser Sight Digital Theodolite with Optical Plummet DT8-05LS has proven to be a reliable and efficient tool for sighting and alignment during my daily use.

Buyer's Guide

When considering a 1911 laser sight, there are several general features and considerations to take into account. These factors can help you make the best decision when selecting a model that suits your needs and preferences. Some of the key factors include brightness, style, durability, battery life, and mounting options.

Brightness

https://preview.redd.it/5ygamwycox3d1.jpg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=69a0c3bf9da248d62aee84756f26bf8ec6f9e356
One important feature of a 1911 laser sight is its brightness. A higher-powered laser will provide a more visible sight, making it easier to identify your target in low-light conditions. However, more powerful lasers often consume more battery life and may be more expensive.

Style and Aesthetics

Aesthetics and style are subjective, but some people may prefer one particular appearance over another. Choose a model that aligns with your preferences or the existing style of your 1911 handgun. Some laser sight options are designed to blend seamlessly with the handgun, while others may have more eye-catching designs.

Durability

A durable laser sight is essential for long-term use. Look for models that are constructed with high-quality materials, such as aircraft-grade aluminum or stainless steel. These materials can withstand wear and tear, making them more resistant to damage and corrosion.

2024.06.01 11:58 Kaslight What's actually going on in FF7R (The Whispers [Probably] Got You)

EXTENSIVE Rebirth, Remake, and OG FF7 spoilers in here.
This is a continuation of What's Actually Going On in FF7R (The White Materia) where I attempt to make sense of everything the Remake continuity added to the OG FF7 story. It really is best if you read the other thread first, just because this will be easier if i've already explained my theory on the White Materia and it's associated spell, Holy.
Another disclaimer : This is, still, just a theory, aGameTheory. Don't hate me (or square?) in the event it's completely wrong, which it has a decent chance of being.
There are only 2 things about FF7's Story that have fundamentally changed in Remake.
The White and Black Materia. Or more specifically, the Magic granted by them.
But what I want to discuss this time is (what I personally think, as of Rebirth) is one brilliant misdirection from Square Enix...in hindsight, anyway.

The Whispers

Oh no
"....What the hell was Square thinking?" -- You, probably, watching the ending to Rebirth and/or Remake
Well, they were thinking exactly what you were thinking. And they used it against you.
So getting right to it. TLDR;
The Whispers are exactly what they were said to be -- they protect fate by rejecting any changes to the Lifestream. The misdirection here is how YOU have been goaded into misinterpreting this information.
The White and Black Materia can fully explain their existence and purpose. And it has absolutely NOTHING to do with the OG FF7.
Let's start with what we learned from the previous thread about the White Materia:
So what does the White Materia ACTUALLY do in FF7R?
The White Materia (Holy) gives the user access to the Lifestream. Not just a piece of its knowledge, like regular materia....but the actual lifestream itself. In doing so, they gain knowledge, like all Materia allows them to do. Knowledge of the past, the future, and everything else in flux.
But this is NOT knowledge that you're not supposed to be able to actually do anything with, **because unlike casting Fire or Lightning....**knowing the future allows you to change fate.
Materia are orbs containing knowledge of the ancients. In effect, they contain information from the lifestream itself. The White Materia's magic (Holy) is special though. The magic it contains seems to allow the user to traverse the lifestream itself. This means, in effect, the ability to interact with (and take knowledge from) the actual memories of the Lifestream.
As we know, the Lifestream is everything, everywhere, and every time. All life comes from the lifestream, and when something dies, it returns there. And its memories stay there forever, as physical places within the lifestream.
This is something Tifa observed for herself in Rebirth. In her brief time floating with the WEAPON, she was reunited with her very own memories...in a very literal fashion.
Tifa, inside the Lifestream in the middle of the Gongaga Reactor
This is the Mako pool in the Lifestream underneath Gongaga. We literally watched Tifa fall in, and physically swim to this location........so why is Tifa's house here? Along with...the Nibelheim Mountians?
A Fragmented Nibelheim, including Mt Nibel and the Bridge that Tifa and Cloud almost died on in the past.
Tifa's memories are not only being played out here....they are physically real. This is because she's inside the Lifestream. She hasn't gone anywhere, she's still in Gongaga, but look at the extent to which this pool of Mako is able to interact with one person's memories.
And also....wait a second.
This space beneath the reactor is filled with White and Black Whispers.
...I thought we killed all the whispers? What are they doing here?
We'll come back to this later.
Lets back up a bit.

Why you [probably] hated the Whispers.

Hear me out.
The "OG Storyline" has never existed in Remake. It's not a thing. And the Whispers have nothing to do with it.
\"Oh, the Whispers came because Reno doesn't die in the original game\" -- You, probably
"The whispers were put into the game as a meta commentary on how the developers just want to create their own story, but the fans won't let us, so the party fucking KILLS FATE so that Nomura or Nojima or whomever is most annoying can write whatever they want." -- The Internet. Also you. Probably.
Everyone thinks the Whispers only existed in Remake in order to ensure that the story never deviates from the OG FF7 Storyline. Every time something important is about to happen that didn't happen in the original game, the whispers intervene and correct the timeline.
This is the typical, widely accepted "Meta Commentary" explanation of the Whispers.
But it's wrong.
No, not just because this theory says so. This interpretation was ALWAYS wrong.
So the whispers are canon police, but are just gonna IGNORE stuff like this?
FF7R's storyline is self-contained. If the whispers existed to "protect the old events", then why is even Remake chocked full of shit that never happened in the OG and would actively change the story if it did?
But don't be confused -- the writers ABSOLUTELY wanted you to think this way. It's what bothered me about Remake's ending. But they were actually clever about it, and Rebirth vindicates this decision.
"Changing the Future", "Defying Fate", and "The Future is Unwritten" has nothing to do the OG FF7.
Okay good we got this out of the way, I can stop talking about Meta Analysis and get to the actual good stuff.

What the whispers were ACTUALLY doing

Remake explained what the Whispers are verbatim.
They protect fate -- the Lifestream. From Aerith, and Jenova.
The Lifestream IS Fate.
Red -"Perhaps best described as arbiters of fate. They are drawn to those who attempt to alter destiny's course and ensure they do not."
Tifa - "And you're saying that flow is somehow...fixed?
Red - "Yes. For it is the will of the planet itself."
Barret then speaks about possible bad fates. And Red XIII says this:
Barret - "So if we're destined for a bleak future, these Whispers will try to keep us on that course?"
"....Now wait just a damn minute. How in the hell could you possibly know any of that? Spouting that cryptic stuff -- which could all be bullshit!"
Red - "When Aerith reached out to me...I found this knowledge of the Whispers."
In the previous thread, we explained how Aerith has been messing with the Lifestream by mistakenly using the White Materia to obtain information she has no business knowing. The Whispers are simply reacting to her blatant misuse of this, and act to correct it.
This is very consistent, even in Pt1. The Whispers in Remake ONLY appear when someone is either:
  1. Using forbidden knowledge from the Lifestream
  2. Manipulating events by sharing forbidden knowledge from the lifestream
  3. When something foreign attempts to force its will on the lifestream
This is the only time they act. But the THIRD one is the most important. I'm going to go through a few examples in Remake and show exactly what's happening that is causing the Whispers to intervene, and explicitly why.
After I show you this, please go back and watch videos of all these sorts of events in Remake. You will see exactly what I mean.
Okay, buckle up kids!

Violation #1 Using forbidden knowledge from the Lifestream

Watching the first appearance of Aerith in Remake gives us full clarity of what's actually happening.
Aerith is attacked by an invisible force.
Aerith is being attacked by Whispers. This is because she possesses the White Materia, and has constant access to knowledge she isn't supposed to have. They are taking it from her.
Thing to note here. Cloud cannot see the whispers. This is because he is not violating any of the 3 rules.
Sephiroth makes an appearance here.
The appearance of the \"Mental Static\" used in both Remake and Rebirth
This is a Red Herring...in fact, this is THREE brilliantly placed Red Herrings. Because the "Memory Static" that appears here belongs to both Cloud AND Aerith, and serves to confuse you on what it actually means.
  1. Aerith sees Cloud, and immediately gains knowledge about them both that she is not supposed to know. Also, if you pay attention, Aerith is NOT frozen during this sequence. This is her scene just as much as it is Cloud's.
  2. Cloud has yet another vision of Sephiroth, caused by his Jenova cells. This is a huge misdirection, to eventually make you think Sephiroth is popping up in places he "shouldn't be."
  3. This is where Remake starts to fuck with your head. They're using the same memory effect for two different characters, for two different reasons. But the result is essentially the same -- the characters involved are having their perception altered. Remake does NOT distinguish between static caused by Holy or static caused by Jenova. They are treated equally in Remake.
The biggest red herring here though is Sephiroth.
It SEEMS unnatural that Sephiroth is appearing here, this early in the game. But it isn't unnatural -- Cloud is plagued by these visions all the time in this continuity. This is why the game gave us a Sephiroth appearance immediately after the Bombing Mission.
Now. Notice how, despite being attacked by invisible whispers, Aerith mostly seems unbothered by this.
...Almost as if she's used to it. Similar to the way Cloud is equally used to visions of Sephiroth. They BOTH carry on with the conversation as though NOTHING has happened.
The game is explicitly showing you that both of these occurrences are seen as normal for these characters. Suggesting that they have actually been dealing with them for much longer than you would think.
Aerith has another Whisper attack. Cloud is once again very confused, until this happens:
Cloud's violation of #1 through contact with Aerith
Aerith touches Cloud.
We learn later that Aerith touching you gives you knowledge you're not supposed to have. Thus, Cloud is now in violation of Rule #1 -- Forbidden Knowledge. He can now observe whispers for the rest of the story.

Violation #2 Manipulating events by sharing forbidden knowledge from the lifestream

The Church Scene is a great example of this. In fact, most of the moments in Rebirth involve Aerith doing this to some degree.
The White Materia is explicitly the cause of the Whisper Attack in the church, and the game goes out of its way to make it very obvious.
Cloud Memory Static, this time it's Holy, not Jenova. (I don't have enough attachments to spell this out, so please go look at the scene after you read this.)
This is another VERY good example of Remake fucking with your head.
The Red Herring here is obvious -- the vision of Aerith's Death. Yes, it was a vision of her death. But her death wasn't the important information the game was showing you in this scene. The White Materia was.
Regardless, the whispers did not intervene here, despite Cloud obviously glimpsing forbidden knowledge.
So why DID they intervene?
\"...Huh?\" - Cloud
Because Aerith couldn't keep her mouth shut.
  1. She tells Reno that Cloud is her bodyguard. He isn't. Reno is.
  2. She exposed that he was a Soldier. Reno explicitly does not like Soldiers.
  3. She already knew that Cloud was doing mercenary work, and used this to persuade him.
Cloud told her none of this information. But it caught Reno's attention. And what was the result?
*Sizes Cloud up*
"Well, you're weird enough to be one."
\"What Class are you?\"
Reno doubts Cloud's Identity as a First Class Ex-Soldier. And Cloud violently reacts to protect it.
The whispers stopped Cloud from killing Reno, NOT because Reno survives in the OG game...but because Reno's life wouldn't even be at risk here if Aerith didn't instigate this fight.
And just like the Flower scene, Remake actually sets this one up with prior character information too. -- Cloud was shown from the beginning of the game to be prone to extreme violence. He would have also executed Johnny without Tifa's intervention. So we KNOW he would have killed Reno if the Whispers didn't intervene.
Hopefully you're beginning to see a pattern here.
Here is the most obvious example of this rule triggering the Whispers.
Aerith attempting to stop Barret from doing something....
In this scene, we see Aerith clearly knows something she isn't supposed to. She wants to share with Barret that killing the President isn't a good idea...And the whispers immediately appear, threatening her to stop. By this point, Aerith is beginning to become aware of why the whispers are harassing her so much.
I covered this scene in my last post, so I wont again...but this scene is crucial towards understanding what's happening in this game. Everyone should watch this scene again. Pay attention to what happens to Aerith the moment she says "Follow the Yellow Flowers". Aerith is clearly not herself as she says this. It's almost as if someone possessed her to say it. And the Whispers absolutely swarm her as a result.

Violation #3 -- When something foreign attempts to force its will on the lifestream

And here we go. The one that caused like 90% of the confusion in Remake. To be fair, this could only really be understood in hindsight after playing Rebirth.
There are many cases in Remake where the Whispers do something that seems...odd, given their explanations as arbiters of fate. Like attacking Sector 7, silencing Hojo, or literally helping Sephiroth at the end of the game. This is because although it's clearly whispers doing it...in Remake there is no visual indication of which Will any given Whispers serve -- The Planet, or Jenova's.
They all LOOK the same.
But they absolutely ARE NOT the same -- they are separate (black and white), just like in Rebirth.
But Remake included subtle clues as a nod to this reveal in Rebirth.
The Whisper Attack on Sector 7
This is another situation where you're expected to believe that the whispers are causing a ruckus because Cloud isn't going on the second bombing mission with Avalanche. Which is something we know he does in the OG game.
But that's just because we likely misinterpreted the clues that lead up to this moment that explain exactly why this is happening : The white whispers are attempting to correct the deliberate isolation of the main party by the black whispers.
A whisper is seen lurking around in Sector 7 the day before this happens. It's extremely easy to miss.
A whisper was present in Seventh Heaven. This was shown immediately after Barret told Cloud he wasn't on the next mission and has to leave.
See...if you're comparing Remake to the OG, then this whisper shown here is 100% going to force you to misinterpret what it's doing here.
In Seventh Heaven, multiple things happen that result in a break up of the entire main party.
  1. Tifa is feeling anxious about the next mission. Jesse goes out of her way to voice concerns about her involvement, leading to her getting kicked off the team for the mission.
  2. Jesse then tries to aim to get Cloud placed on the team instead. Barret refuses to do this because he "doesn't want the team leaning on him."
  3. Barret pays Cloud, tells him he isn't wanted on the next mission, and kicks him out the bar.
  4. A whisper will literally stop you from entering Seventh Heaven again after this happens to make sure you can't fix it.
The side mission with Jesse happens.....and then this.
A whisper with Sephiroth's voice trying to keep Cloud sleep
A Whisper with Sephiroth's voice approaches Cloud in the morning. He wants him to sleep through Barret, Jesse, and Biggs going on the mission. This would have likely isolated Barret, resulting in his death. Something Jenova tries again towards the end of the game.
She really does not want Barret to stay alive, because he is the glue of Avalanche, and the main reason the events of the story begin the way they do. Cloud also likely never would have met Aerith in the church.
Jenova's whispers are trying to prevent Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, and Barret from getting together. This event would have succeeded in separating all of them.
That's why the whispers are at war with one another.
The Black ones are trying to isolate you. The white ones are correcting their meddling.
The game even STOPS you mid-combat to bring attention to the fact that the Black Whispers are being exposed.
Black Whisper being made vulnerable by something external
They stop attacking after a whisper manages to isolate and injure Jesse, at which point the battle is over and all whispers leave.
And of course....there's most obvious example of this kind of massive violation from Remake....The Infamous Chapter 18.
But that's gonna have to wait for another post.
I'm out of attachments again.

TL;DR : FF7R is messing with your head.

Aerith using the White Materia in Remake is literally going through the events of the story the exact same way the player did -- with "forbidden knowledge" about how things are "supposed to be".
In Rebirth, the White Materia is empty. She no longer has knowledge of what's "supposed to happen", and thus has to accept that whatever happens, happens. This is why the "The Journey is Unknown." Not because the party killed the whispers, therefore the writers can do whatever they want. But because Aerith hid her knowledge of the future (Holy) from herself. She used to be able to know what was going to happen. Now she can't. The real Meta thing is that FF7R only really starts to make sense when you willingly abandon what you thought you already knew about the story. Those who look with clouded eyes see nothing but shadows.
Now go back through Remake with the new perspective and tell me that everything doesn't make way more sense.
Also, please tell me im crazy so I can stop writing these.
Otherwise, stay tuned for pt3 -- The Black Materia.
....Oh. One final hilarious mindblowing. Remember this?
This is where Remake starts to fuck with your head. They're using the same memory effect for two different characters, for two different reasons. But the result is essentially the same -- the characters involved are having their perception altered.
Remake does NOT distinguish between static caused by Holy or static caused by Jenova. They are treated equally in Remake.
Rebirth DOES distinguish the visual effects of memory alteration.
But only for the player.
Cloud still can't tell the difference.

How functional are RuneScape weapons? - June Deep Dive: Double-Bladed Axes

Intro

RuneScape was for me the catalyst to get into medieval weapons. After my return, I want to share my knowledge to the larger RuneScape community. So I've started this melee weapons review serie. One central question: how functional are RuneScape weapons? How would they perform if you made a replica, with real-life materials?
As it's the beginning of the month, I will do something more special. Instead of a regular weapon review, I will do a deep dive into one aspect of several weapons. This allows me to go in-depth what would otherwise be too long on a review, and that I will link to it to avoid repetition. I will explain by using examples of RuneScape weapons, what they got right or wrong and how they could be improved.

Deep Dive

For this month's deep dive, I will look into a staple of a lot of fantasy games and movies: the double-bladed axes. Also called double-bitted axes, the name explains it: it is an axe with two axe blades on the front and the backside of the weapon. Double-bladed axes have a high cool factor, but is there some functional validity?
To start off: double-bladed axes were actually historical. With one strong caveat though: most of the double-bladed axes were decorative, ceremonial or featured in art depictions. Actual real double-bladed battleaxes were rare, at least in medieval Europe. Outside Europe, there are some examples from Africa, the Middle East or East Asia. Or there are some neolithic and classical (Minoan) examples. So yeah, they are not purely a product of the imagination of some game designers, but weren't as common as depicted in fantasy games or movies either.
Regarding its functionality, the opinions are divided. Some see some validity, others believe it to be plain stupid. The most common objections are threefold:
1) Weight
Double-bladed axes are pretty much double the weight of a regular axe. You might think: more weight means more powerful strikes! True, but more weight requires more strength and energy, and makes you slower. You don't swing an axe once, but multiple times in quick succession. If it takes longer to recover, to change direction, and tires you more quickly, you will eventually lose. Double-bladed axes will make you overall less effective compared to regular axes. It's all about balance.
2) Versatility
There is a reason why regular axes feature a back spike or hammer head. They offer more versatility, offer various ways of damaging the armour (or the person underneath). A double-bladed axe has limited extra versatility. You already got an axe blade, which combines both a cut and percussive damage. A second axe blade doesn't add any extra functionality.
3) Hard to carry
A one-handed axe can be easily hooked at your belt. Try this with a double-bladed axe: it's not possible. You would either need to carry around in your hand, strap it somehow on your back, or strap it on the side of your horse. Not impossible, but impractical.
There are four counterarguments to these:
1) Blade geometry
If the weight is an issue, the obvious solution is to reduce it. The blade can be smaller and thinner, so you have relatively the same weight but still two axe blades. An example is this (albeit ceremonial) North Indian axe. With 1.159 kg, it's relatively light for it to have two axe blades.
2) Back strikes
Due to having a top-heavy nature, axes are energy intensive to decelerate. It is better to maintain momentum and follow your strike through, and looping around for the next strike. You then get a figure eight pattern. The recovery phase of such loop means you have to twist your arm to have the axe blade pointed towards your opponent. This twist makes the follow-up strike slightly less stronger. Double-bladed axes removes that necessary twist, as you can do back strikes, making it slightly faster and stronger.
3) Asymmetry
The double-bladed axe doesn't have to be perfectly symmetrical. Having two different axe blades does add some versatility, as every axe blade will cut differently. A big axe blade will spread the impact force over a larger surface area so it's less percussive, but having a longer cutting edge will allow it to cut more smoothly. A small axe blade is the reverse: more concentration means larger impact force at the cost of cutting capability.
4) Back-up blade
This is the least strong argument, in my opinion, but I should mention. The double-bladed axe allows you to have a secondary blade, if for some reason your first blade becomes too damaged to be able to be used. It's a rather rare occasion to happen mid-battle, and isn't enough on its own to validate a second axe blade.

RuneScape examples

Without further ado, let's apply what we have learned to RuneScape's double-bladed axes.
Let's start with an iconic one: the dragon battleaxe. The two axe blades are perfectly symmetrical. This gives less versatility and also means you have to make both blades thinner to compensate the weight issue. I would argue this is not the best example of a double-bladed axe.
Dragon battleaxe
Now take this necronium battleaxe and greataxe. There is a slight asymmetry here. The axe blades are still pretty similar though, and over the top bulky, so still not functional.
Necronium battleaxe
Necronium greataxe
The white halberd has a some asymmetry here, but they are still too bulky. Kudos for the top spike, though.
White halberd
Now we're getting somewhere. The black battleaxe has a comparatively shorter, smaller secondary axe. Yeah, I think this is a more solid double-bladed axe.
Black battleaxe
The iron battleaxe has two bearded axe blades, but the secondary axe blade is more hookier, so it allows to hook more easily. It would be better if the blade was closer to the handle, there is a way too large gap. But overall, this is pretty functional.
Iron battleaxe
The black halberd is an upgrade to the black battleaxe. The secondary axe blade is even smaller, adding minimal extra weight. It doesn't need to be sharp: a sturdy blunt edge could maximise its percussive effectiveness. You basically would get a wedge that could put a dent in armour, while having a lighter, thinner and larger axe blade to cut through lighter armoured opponents. The size is off though: the two-handed black halberd's axe blades are smaller than those of the one-handed black battleaxe, while it's normally the other way around.
Black halberd
The steel battleaxe and steel halberd have similar secondary axes. It's close to the handle, small and fully asymmetrical, adding not much extra weight. The middle part is too heavy, but overall these are good functional examples.
Steel battleaxe
Steel halberd
The white battleaxe is by far the most asymmetrical. The secondary blade pretty much a stump. Making it thicker would give it an entirely different function, adding extra versatility. No weight issue here.
White battleaxe
I absolutely love the secondary axe blade of the dragon halberd. In case you didn't knew: the shape resembles that of an Igorot headhunter axe (or Kalinga axe) of the Philippines. It's a vicious devastating axe, featured in Forged in Fire and various video games. That makes the weird hooks and pointy things so much of a carnal sin... Ignoring that (and believe me, it is very hard to do), this is a perfect example of how a secondary axe blade can add versatility. The Igorot headhunter axe blade is mainly penetrative, it's forward point going deep, while simultaneously still having a cutting edge that finish off the job with a bloody slash. IT WILL KEEL!
Dragon halberd
Lastly, the iron halberd. No secondary axe blade here, but the more common back spike.
Iron halberd
