Chapter 1: Hope’s 16th Birthday
As the rays of the sun hits her eyes Hope Moonshine wakes up excited, she was waiting for this day for all her life
She jumps out of her bed and rushes to her mom's room excited and she accidentally flung the door open too fast making a loud cranking noise waking her mother, Queen Matilda up
"Oops didn't mean to wake you up" hope said awkwardly"Honey I know you are excited for your birthday but you need to be patient the sun has just risen everyone is still asleep" Matilda said tiredly, "please go back to sleep darling you will have a long day today and you will need the energy, your party wont be begin till noon"
"Ok mom, sorry for waking you up" said Hope as she was trying to close the door slowly enough that it doesn't crank but it still did "Not an issue dear", said Matilda
As the door closed Matilda took a deep breath and closed her eyes her emblem on her right shoulder a pink diamond glowed she opened her eyes and she made a finger gun with her right hand pointing at the hinges and a shiny pink light zaps comes out of her index and zaps the hinges, the beam turns into a hand and it open the door and then closes without making a cranking noise, "I should have done that a long time ago" said Matilda
She removes the blankets from her bed to reveal she is already clothed for a serious occasion, as she goes towards the mirror she is wearing a long cyan dress that trails all the way to her feed her top being smartly tight with short shoulder sleeves, she puts on long white gloves and glances over her diamond ring she lets out a small sigh and frown and puts it on, she trances over the mirror for a few seconds before snapping out of it, and she looks over to a miniature painting of her an her daughter when she was 6 she picks it up and smiles "I know you are eager dear you won't have to wait for long"
After Matilda ready's herself she open her window and conjures a light bird of the palm of her hand, the bird flew off to Hope's room where it sees her lying in her bed on her stomach, the bird soon returns to Matilda's room and land on her palm her eyes glows for a moment and the bird fizzes into a yellow cloud, "Well it looks like she actually listened not very common of her to do so, it means I can continue to do my plan unobstructed" she said with a smile.
Matilda leaves her room and walk across the hallway to the main hall then she claps her hand twice, and snap her finger, suddenly a figure jumps into the window it spins 180° and a muscular women stands up, she has a scar on her left cheek and short brown hair, she wore knight armour that cuts of at her shoulder emblem that looks like a dark grey shield.
"At your service my queen", she said with a salute
Matilda is startled for a moment, but then composes herself, "Sally there is no need for you to enter that way you can just wait for me at the hall entrance", she said.
"I was scouting the perimeter we have to make sure this place is safe and to make sure no one can harm the princess at her important day, I was up all night with my team searching every corner of the upper ring for any danger and-" Sally was abruptly cut off by Matilda.
"It was not your fault Sally, there is no need for you to prove yourself to me" Matilda said remorsefully, "You tried your best so you must eventually forgive yourself it wasn't anyone fault, it truly came from nowhere"
Sally's serious expression break into expression of regret as she shamefully looks at the ground
"Now is not time to punish ourselves over who we failed to protect but to make sure my daughter has a great birthday" Matilda said with determination
Sally's expressions of regret turned to a smile, "Yes my Queen, me and the royal guards have spent last few weeks clearing a safe path from the upper ring to the more presentable areas of the lower ring that ends at the great barrier" Sally says with a salute.
"Well I trust your judgement, you are now dismissed" said Matilda
Sally goes down the stairs of the central hall towards the doors "I won't mess up again" Sally said with determination
"Oh Houston" Matilda said while turning her head left and right, "where is he when I need him",
"I am right here your majesty" Houston whispered from behind, Matilda was startled and was annoyed on how everyone seems to sneak up on her, "Sorry for spooking you" said Houston as he polished his monocle "We are well prepared to begin celebration soon" he said as his hand pointed towards the empty hall.
Matilda stared at him, he then clapped his hands and an army of servants entered the hall setting up the chairs and tables, followed up by waiters quickly setting food on the table, and then 6 waiters came together to slowly lift the large 4 layered birthday cake with a milk white colour with chocolate cream on top of each layer, with "happy birthday Hope" spelled with strawberry topping on the side of each layer, with the glowing yellow number "16" candle at the top.
"As I was saying my Queen" Houston started "We just need to wait for the guests to arrive, I will let you know when you can call your daughter" Houston stops from a moment "Do you want anything else your majesty or am I dismissed?" he asked.
"You are dismissed Houston" said Matilda
Matilda walks up to Hope's room and slowly opens the door to find her laying in her bed
"One thousand one hundred and forty-two" Hope counted to herself, she paused and took a deep sigh, and tried to continue but then paused scratching her head "Um One-".
she was interrupted by her mother saying "Thousand one hundred and forty-three", "Unable to sleep dear?" She said with a smile, Hope gasped and she had the biggest smile in her face, her mother was a bit startled and asked "what is it you are smiling at?".
Hope pointed at her, jumped from her bed and as she was taking heavy breathes pointing at her mother clothes, "You don't sleep in this" she takes a deep breath and exclaims "which means I have got to get ready" and she runs to her closet to pick up something to wear.
Matilda takes a glance down at her clothes and rolls her eyes "so much for a surprise"
"I am ready mom" Hope said ecstatically, she was wearing a beautiful turquoise dress which complemented her hair colour styled in two plates with with joined with a pink band and wearing her favourite golden necklace,
"That was quick" her mother commented
As they enter the main hall a bunch of guests are seated drinking beverages and helping themselves to freshly baked foods, "Attention everybody, I would like you to welcome the birthday girl" said Houston, everyone stopped what they were doing and turned their heads towards the princess.
She gets a bit nervous and let out an awkward "hey guys", she didn't recognize any of them but she had to pretend to know all of them while hoping they don't ask her if she knows them, they all continue to stare as she and her mother get seated.
Houston lets out a forced cough to break the awkward silence, he says "and now Princess that you have come here you may blow the candles", the table the cake was on was carried towards Hope and her mother seated on there high chair, Hope tries to mask her excitement as she takes a deep breath and gently blow the candles, which fire off the cake and make a small explosion spelling out "Happy Birthday Princess!", Hope's eyes lit with joy.
Trumpets play and two royal servants come into the hall holding a gold plated chest decorated with diamonds, the chest is slowly opened and a blinding bright light shined from inside it, "Go ahead dear" said Matilda as her eyes pointed to the chest.
Hope goes down towards the chest and slowly lowers her hand inside of it and grabs what inside, as she removes her hand from the chest it reveals her to be holding the magic wand, it had a purple handle with a sparkly cyan diamond at its back end and a translucent turquoise sphere at it top decorated with a white glowing shape which resembled the combination of a two star into two different planes inside, and topped off with a small yellow crown at the top
Hope's shoulder emblem a pink heart with a tiny crown on top of both curves starts glowing, she raises the top of the wand at eye level, "ooh what's this" she says as she tries to stick her finger inside it to touch the spinning star
"HOPE DONT" shouted her mother, as soon as hope touched it burnt her finger and she let out a painful screech and fires a yellow glowing beam fires from the wand at some guest who were quick enough to duck, it hits a glowing orange decorative plant crushing it against the wall,
"hehe this could have been worse", Hope said awkwardly, the wreckage catches fire...
"FIRE" yells Sally, the guards that were standing by the walls quickly moved and shoved away all nearby guest as Sally goes and faces the fire here shoulder emblem glows and she fires yellow beam at it from her hands she then she clenches her fist and the beam turns into water extinguishing the fire and a yellow cloud evaporates from it, she quickly turn over to Hope and rushes over to her "ARE YOU OKAY PRINCESS" she exclaimed worryingly.
"I am fine it's just my finger is a little -" before she finishes her sentence Sally picks her up and running with her in her arms and runs up to the door and out of the Palace.
Queen Matilda is left with the guests and lets out an awkward chuckle and says "so who wants some drinks?", "Please help yourself to the finest wines in the whole kingdom" she said as a servant reveals a bunch of wine bottles in gold coating, the guests all rushed to get a sip
"I am telling you I am fine it's just a little scratch its rude for me to leave suddenl-" Hope was interrupted by Sally kicking the door open.
"PA-" Sally yelled before being interrupted by a "SHHHH", she was shushed by a woman with a white robe that cut offs at the shoulder, and a hand crafted necklace made of cotton around her neck, she had red hair tied into a bun and a green plus sign as her shoulder emblem.
"Seriously Sally how many times do I have to tell you to be quiet in here" said healer Pam with frustration she lets out a sigh and asks, "So what seems to be the problem?" Sally pulls out Hope and holds her at arms length right Infront of her Hope lets out a "Hi".
Pam gasps "Oh my princess sorry I didn't know you were coming, are you hurt?"
"No not at all it's ju-" Hope was interrupted yet again it seems like although she is becoming a grownup no one seems to want to listen to her
"She burned herself quickly check up on her" commanded Sally as she lowered Hope to her feet, Pam glanced at her up and down
"Where was she hurt", asked her confused. Hope sheepishly pointed to her left index finger it was a bit red which could be easily seen as it contrasted with her smooth white skin, but it was also accompanied by a yellow 'liquid', Pam conjured a white napkin to clean the site of the injury and singled out the injured finger from Hope's hand and put her hand on it and made into a fist and then she took a deep breath and closed her eyes her shoulder mark started having a green glow for a few seconds and then it suddenly went dim, she opened her hand to find the finger fully healed like it was never even scratched.
"Oh wow t-thanks" said Hope with a smile.
"Oh it's nothing" said pam, she took out her napkin it had some yellow glowing spots of what looks like fluid except its it didn't soak in but floated around it, "I see you can use magic now, what was your first spell" Pam said with excitement.
"I-i just shot this out of the wand" she said as she pointed at liquid on the napkin that started evaporating considerably, she then lowered her voice and talked faster "and it hit a plant and set it on fire" she was saying as she looked at the floor, Pam laughed and Hope was starting to blush.
"Oh don't worry dear we all mess up at the start, when I first started I accidentally broke a boy's arm" Pam said with a laugh.
"Is he okay now?" Hope asked with curiosity
"Well when I was your age healing wasn't what it is today they just put his arm in a cast and said if he was lucky his arm would be usable in three years", "I never was interested in healing like my mom but I wanted to fix my mistake so I studied and practiced for months to focus my healing and one day it just clicked, I got back to him and I was able to heal his arm and this happiness a patient feels when they are treated makes this all worth it" she let out a calm sigh and continued "It was not an easy journey but in just 8 years I was able to reach my peak"
"Eight years?" Hope said in disbelief
"Don't worry your path is way longer than mine my peak is at least four levels lower than you" Pam said with a grin
"It isn't that huge difference right?" Hope inquired hoping her journey wont be in the double digits because that's a very long time
Pam laughed and then said "Oh it way larger than it looks, but don't worry royals don't have a peak at least not one that one knows off" she put her hand on Hope's shoulder "Don't let the long road overwhelm you as long as you are better than yesterday you will be a great princess"
Hope smiled at her and said, "Thanks a lot Pam"
"So is everything alright with her, she stuck her finger into the wand are you sure there wont be any complications" asked Sally
"She will be alright she might have lost her finger if she went deeper and then It will actually a challenge to fix, but this is what pain reflexes are for, it a blessing in disguise", replied Pam
Sally clapped her hands and said "Well we got to go now we cant keep the guests waiting thanks for your help Pam"
Hope looked over to her and said "You should come over it's my birthday you can go change the setting", "No dear being a Healer is big commitment what if someone is in need of assistance and I am not here but I appreciate the gesture, maybe I could arrange my schedule to be there next time, go enjoy yourself".
"Pam the amputee is ready for his second regeneration session" a voice called.
"The what?" exclaimed Hope.
"Oh it's a bit graphic you really don't want to see it, I got to go now send your mother my regards" replied Pam as she ran over to a patient
Sally and Hope went to the door and left.
"You know I was really fine, it was just a scratch" Hope said as she looked up to Sally, "It's kind of rude to just leave the guests hanging I could have just sucked it up-"
Hope tried to continue when Sally muttered under her breath "I won't forgive myself".
"What was that?" asked Hope.
"Nothing, it's just you can never be so sure and no one was stupid enough to stick there finger in the wand I was just making sure but since it wasn't serious we don't need to worry" Sally said with an anxious fake smile, Hope sensed there was something off about her tone but she didn't want to push Sally into an uncomfortable spot so she left it at that
Sally and Hope make it back to the palace and Matilda rushes to her daughter "Oh dear are you ok"
She said as she gave her girl a hug, Everyone was staring and Hope got a bit embarrassed "yeah Mom I am ok" Hope said, Matilda stood up and was about to say something before Hope pre-emptively said, "I know I know it was pretty stupid from me to to do what I did, I know the wand is not a toy and I promise I will be more careful with it" she said while avoiding eye contact
Matilda smiled and said "Well I appreciate that you understand that you messed up but that not what I wanted to say" Hope made eye contact and Matilda continued "As princess and future queen we will have you visit the LOWER RING" Matilda took her daughter's hand "Sure its not the safest or best place in the kingdom but a hermit ruler is a bad ruler"
Hope got extremely excited over this as she always wanted to see the rest of the kingdom the Lower ring, the Outer ring but she was always told no because Sally's word "It's way to dangerous, you are not ready, you aren't old enough" or her mother's word "Is there something there that you cant find at home?, The place isn't very hygienic" but how bad could it be it was still under the rule of the Moonshines. Life in the Upper ring and the palace get boring after a while, why would she wants to stay put there when there a whole world to explore?
"The escorts are waiting for us outside those who want to go with us are welcome to go" Said Matilda looking at the guests with a forced smile almost knowing the reaction. All of them tried to mask there faces of disgust as if Matilda just asked them to bathe in mud or even worse she said that the food at the legendary "façade haut de gamme" was just an overpriced scam. They didn't look very impressed, Matilda coughed and asked "Well?".
One couple went towards the exit and when they got to Matilda the man said "We are truly flattered by your invite my queen but I am afraid we have something important to do" the man paused and scratched his head trying to think of an excuse Hope looked over him and asked
"What's more important to than a trip to see the rest of kingdom its not like we can always get to do it" with an ecstatic smile the woman who was scratching her head stopped as if she got an idea she went over looked to Hope with a stupid fake smile and said
"Well sweetie we forgot to sign up our son for school and registration will be closing today" she turned over to her husband and elbowed him in ribs and asked "Isn't that right honey?"
The man nodded in agreement and they walked out and they led out an audible sigh and when they were just outside of earshot the man told his wife "Moonshines huh? You would think after what happened a decade ago they would get the memo" the woman looked back at the Queen then waved and looked back at her husband and said
"She is weak if this happened to me I will make sure those pigs wish they weren't born".
Following into there footsteps and sensing an opening other guests decided to excuse themselves outside and at this point Matilda stopped resisting she knew some wouldn't want to go but she didn't think that many would go and she looked defeated Hope turned to her and said "Well mom we don't need those nose in the airers it's there loss anyways"
A woman walked up to them "She is right you know in-law" that woman was Hope's paternal aunt Mary, she had short blonde hair and brown eyes wearing a yellow dress for the occasion "The only reason any off these arrogant buffoons came here is societal expectations much like basically everything here" she said while rolling her eyes "and they all dipped the second they had the chance, come on lets go"
As they walked past the doors Sally was standing just outside the door scanning the setting with her eyes, her eyes wandered and locked with Mary "You should relax Sally no need for you to be so tense" she said with a smile she then changed her tone suddenly and said with a frown and a in a low voice that Hope and Matilda couldn't hear "Me and Matilda can protect ourselves and we aren't relying on you and my niece was under my protection since she was six, all you need to do is drive the horses and look menacing" and then she put her hand on her shoulder and smiled and said with an audible voice "So you can feel a lot more at ease dear", Sally tried hid her feeling of guilt with a fake smile "Let's go" said Mary joyfully
Everyone got on the horse driven chariot, just a classical chariot nothing magical about it, it's a very ineffective method of transport but one of the most relaxing ones
"HEEEEEY WAIT FOR ME" yelled a girl from as she was she surfing a purple cloud wearing a long sleeved purple sweater and blue pants as she got closer she tried to slow down by tilting her body backwards but she lost control and started flying at high speeds towards Hope
"EM SLOW DOWN" shouted Hope.
"I CANT BRACE FOR IMPACT" they both closed there eyes with their arms covering there eyes but just before contact she was caught effortlessly by Sally one hand and her cloud in the other she crushed the cloud in her fist into yellow mist that faded away and put the girl on her feet she then crossed her arms and looked down and barked
"Miss Emberlynn Springfield you should know how dangerous using magic without experience is, and you can't just rely on something you can't even responsibly use to make up for your own lack of punctuality"
Ember looked taken aback but she didn't want to look stupid so she snapped back with "I didn't know Hope is celebrating her birthday early in the morning, birthdays are a night activity".
Sally who was crossing her arms now raised her eyebrow and simply replied with,"Lies you were told everyday for the last week not my fault you can't seem to be able to be punctual friend's birthday, do you simply not care?".
Ember now looked embarrassed and now was rolling her finger around her dyed purple hair "M-M-My rooster didn't wake me up" she said with a smile while shrugging her shoulder as if she is asking question and the question was 'will Sally let the lecture go'.
"This doesn't matter now anyways it's that Ems is here" interjected Hope with excitement as she put her arm around Ember's shoulder "We shouldn't be wasting time let's go" she said as she punched her hand up in the sky.
Matilda, Hope, Ember and Mary entered the Chariot while Sally rode one of the two horses moving it while the other was being moved by an over-armoured and visibly nervous man.
"Calm down Edmund its just a short trip by a defined path we will be in an out in an hour or two" commanded Sally looking at Edmund clearly getting tired of his lack of confidence.
"I am trying but its such a big deal, escorting not one not two but three royals into the lower ring, I am not sure if I can do this, If I mess up-- I am too young for the consequences" he said clearly on the edge of panic
Sally slapped her hands on his cheeks "Edmund calm down you can do this I know you can" she said, Edmund seemed to calm down a bit "The whole path is being heavily guarded you and me are the last line of an extremely deep wall of defences we are most likely just going to be there for company" she looked back at the cart and said "and besides it's not like the royals can't protect themselves, they are much stronger than us after all"
"That's what they said about fre-" Edmund mumbled before putting his hand on his mouth mid sentence, Sally expression changed to that of anger.
"What did you just say?" she barked.
Edmund realising his mess up and started shaking "Um- I was talking about ---- the nice weather we are having" he said trying to pretend that this wasn't the stupidest attempt at backtracking, before Sally was going to give him a piece of her mind Mary stuck her head out and said in annoyed tone
"Hey I am not getting any younger here", Sally and Edmund looked forwards and shook the horse reins and they got moving forward
As they got to the edges of the Upper ring they reached translucent yellow barrier "We are reaching the barrier you might feel a tickle" proclaimed Sally.
As the horse crossed the barrier the barrier walls phased through the cart and it phased through Mary and Matilda there shoulder emblems glowed a four pointed star and a diamond respectfully in a yellow hue when it got to Hope and Ember the cart got to a sudden halt and they were thrown forwards Hope fell on her mother while Ember face was slapped into the barrier which was at this point halfway through the cart.
Sally opened the door "Everyone ok" she took one look at Ember and let out an annoyed sigh she dragged her hand out of the cart and asked while trying to hide her frustration "Show me your emblem"
Ember scoffed and tried to tuck back her long sleeves but she couldn't get back enough and said while crossing her arms "I can't and I am not removing my shirt".
Sally wasn't having any of it and from tip of her index made a sharp grey magic beam, she flattened Ember's sleeve and made a small cut in her right shoulder showing a yellow star rotated slightly to the left, after the cut yellow gas evaporated from it "And this is why emblems aren't covered it's common knowledge Springfield" said Sally annoyed.
"My favourite shirt! This was very unnecessary" whined Ember and before she could say anything Sally went back to her horse leaving her alone she scoffed and went back to the cart and sat next to Hope crossing her arms.
"You okay there", asked Hope concerned.
"Yeah I am fine just another lecture", said ember looking at the windows
As Hope looked out the window the lower ring didn't seem so different from home, people dressed and walked smartly roads were clean but something was off she couldn't help but notice everyone wore long sleeves even though it was a summer and it's not proper etiquette and that's something else it was surprisingly hot, She took her head out through the windows "Hello stranger" she greeted a man walking nearby he took one solid look at her and looked towards her mother and Sally who was frowning and her hands free with her emblem glowing, he didn't say anything and turned back and proceeded to speed walk away in a few seconds he ditched the subtlety and ran away, Hope was pretty disappointed and got her head into the cart
"What did I do wrong?", Hope asked.
"Girl it's either because you were too friendly it felt fake" said Ember, Hope looked down "Or they were made to feel unwelcome by misses buzzkill in the driving seat" she remarked
A loud sound of crashing wooden boxes was heard and cart went to a halt
"What was that" commented Mary
"Something that isn't boring" Hope said with excitement before leaving the cart.
"Make sure all of them stay put in the cart I will be gone for a short while" said Sally to Edmund before running to the source of the sound Hope tried to follow her but was body blocked by Edmund with his arms crossed
"Sorry I can't let you go princess, Superior's orders", he glanced to the left of him to seeing Ember touching a fancy table Infront of a café just for it to poof into a yellow cloud,
"Ow splinters" she cried, the yellow cloud fizzled reveal a wooden table barely clinging to its shape with a bunch of makeshift wooden fixes that don't even match in colour
Edmund looked like he just saw a ghost and ran towards Ember who was now transforming outdoor expensive furniture into splinter traps
"Stop touching it" said Edmund before shooting out a grey magical hands towards her subduing her, "What's your deal" he scolded annoyed.
"No what's this place deal why is everything here so fake?" snapped Ember "You hearing this Hope this place is fa-" she then stopped and asked "Aye were is Hope?"
Edmund let her go and pulled on his hair "Oh no no no no no no no" he cried
"Is everything alright where is my daughter?" asked Matilda concerned, Edmund didn't know what to say but before he could make up an explanation Mary interjected
"Oh don't worry Mati she will be ok she is probably with Sally and besides she still has this necklace I gave her so I am sure she will be just fine" Mary said with her hand on Matilda's shoulder "and we can go have some tea and chit-chat while we wait I heard that Gilbert's tea shop has actually potable tea" she suggested Matilda sighed and decided to go with what Mary said and walked towards the shop. "What about me?" asked Ember, Edmund turned towards her with anger and barked "You are staying right here!".
"Sally where are you?" called Hope as she was walking she saw a little girl wearing a cute pink dress and smooth brown hair walking alone Infront of her, she approached her and asked
"Hey do you happen to see a tall lady around here?" she tapped on her shoulder to get her attention and suddenly a cloud of yellow gas evaporated out of her Hope and the little girl coughed and as the smoke cleared the little girl was wearing a poorly knit patchwork of randoms scraps of fabric and her hair was covered in dirt she had a brown circle on the side of her shoulder, Hope froze in shock "I- I am so sorry, it was an accident" she apologised "I can go get you a new dress or--" the girl just looked at Hope her eyes glanced her wand which was in her right hand as well as her royal emblem and then she started hyperventilating and burst into tears.
Hope got on to her knees and she gently put her hands on the girl's shoulder "Calm down calm down, it's alright, It's not your fault but mine"
"P-P-pwease do-don hu-hur meeee" the girl sobbed.
"What hurt you? no no no no" Hope explained trying to figure out from where the girl got the idea
Hope hugged the girl "Here calm down see I am friendly" she soothed, the girl seemed to calm down a bit and she started sniffing
She let her go and asked "So what's your name?"
"R-R-Rosie" replied Rosie.
"Ok Rosie I am so sorry for ruining your dress, do you remember were you got it from?" she asked
"Ms Bea had guys gib it to us" Rosie said
"Misses Bea huh" she wondered out loud "Well can you tell me were misses Bea is"
"Sowwy I can't tell you misses moonnnn" Rosie was saying before she looked she wanted to cry again
"Please don't cry" Hope pleaded "You don't need to tell me where you live just wait" Hope passed her wand to her left hand and put her now free hand to her pocket and pulled out a purple wallet and she pulled out a golden note with 50 written on it she passed the note to Rosie and said "Here give this to misses Bea and tell her I am so sorry for destroying your dress also" Rosie grabbed the note and stared at it, Hope pulled some wrapped candy she got from the party "Her have some candy too" the girl put her the note in her pocket and grabbed the wrapped candy she struggled with it a bit and she then passed it back
"Open it please" Rosie asked
"Oh you can't? it's quite simple here" Hope said she gently tapped the candy her emblem glowed for a moment and the wrapping fizzed out.
Rosie put the candy in her mouth and quickly chewed and swallowed it, she then gave Hope a hug, she let go after a moment "Thank you miss, Ms Bea says Moosines are scawy but aren't scawy"
"Scary why would we be scary" Hope asked in disbelief with a smile
Rosie looked around and said "I am sowwy I need to go" she turned back and ran away and took a turn and was just out of sight.
"You couldn't just stop causing trouble for one day? what did we pay you for?" Hope heard Sally barking.
The sound of Sally's voice came from an alleyway, as Hope entered the alley the clean white paint started fading into rotting maroon bricks and the smell became foul coming from the open dumpster "Ewwwww" Hope said as she lowered the lid to try and lessen the stench
"Hey you know it's rude to close the lid on someone trying to fetch themselves a meal" a bald man barked as he popped out like a jack in the box he had a white beard wearing over shoulder strapped brown pants with a black plastic bag for a shirt and a metal can of beans for a hat and his left eye with a grey iris spinning his shoulder emblem only consisted of a simple brown circle, Hope screamed and ran away "Oh beans was that a Moonshine?" the man asked himself "Well I probably should skip town" he said to himself with a goofy smile while snapping his fingers.
Hope stopped running and started panting "Now you are lucky I am not here in head bashing duty or I would have sent you to a one way trip to the Outer ring and the monsters there could deal with you" Hope heard Sally scolding, she walked to the end of the alleyway the place beyond it was extremely different people clothes were worn out in which the holes were covered up by half baked sewn rotting fabric the road didn't exist it was simply a dirt undefined path and walls were all made of rotting bricks same as that of the alley, windows were broken and the stench of garbage filled the air, Hope saw Sally tying up a bunch of muscular men with a magic rope.
Sally glanced over and saw Hope "Princess what are you doing here?" she asked with dismay the rope holding the gangsters vanished they got up and shook of the dust and looked up and saw Hope and they all ran away in terror "Moonshine here run awway". All of a sudden all the people went indoors and the windows were sealed shut with wood and hammered with nails and just like that the place looked like a ghost town.

I have depression and I have been watching scary movies, yt videos, junk like that lately. I'm just not GENUINELY scared anymore. Like yeah I might get frightened a bit and get startled, but thats it. I have watched a lot of horrifying stuff in the past, like saw and the ring, so it might be a tolerance to scary stuff. But I also am wondering because it NEVER used to be like this. I used to get actually scared. The most scared I get is from my own shitty thoughts I think of

Apologies for the absolutely insane number of words, got carried away trying to compensate for being slower than usual with my recap.
The cold open for the finale has a nice little parallel to the cold open in S1E2, which similarly has Deborah walk in to Marty who’s in a somewhat compromising position with his trainer to deliver good news, although in this case her news is something they both celebrate, rather than a win she uses to gloat over Marty
Even though she’s in a much less combative place with Marty, Deborah still isn’t willing to admit that she came over to tell him the news in person and insists that she’s only there to return the key, showing the limited extent to which she is willing to open up even to people she’s known for a long time.
Deborah and Marty doing the tango together to basically celebrate the news is quite cute and a fun way to kick off the episode
I do think it’s kind of sweet that Kathy is quite looking forward to Deborah’s visit, and J Smith Cameron plays up Kathy’s somewhat childlike excitement at this during the opening of the phone call
Nice to see Deborah making an effort to follow up after inviting Kathy for Christmas, committing to a sister’s weekend is a not insignificant step although it also becomes clear that she’s not 100% committed to it. Waiting for Kathy to call and then tell her there’s a change in plans instead of just straight up telling her isn’t a particularly nice thing to do
Deborah has a weird look on her face when Kathy brings up her parents at the mausoleum, which I initially thought was because she didn’t really like to reflect on the past, although on a rewatch it becomes clear it’s because she knows the truth about the mausoleum.
“She’s pivoting into being an adult” Found the way Kayla phrased this part of the child star to adult actor experience to be very funny. I guess the Bella Donaldson character is supposed to be a reference to people like Zendaya, Zac Efron and Selena Gomez (Cannes Best Actress winner!!???), Disney child stars who are trying to shed their past image and be taken as serious adult actors to varying degrees of success. Also the bit about getting awards buzz for an Aronofsky movie feels a bit like what happened/ was projected to happen with Sadie Sink and The Whale
Deborah watching her old Late Night tape and Ava seeing her do that is a nice callback to and reversal of S1E3, where it was Ava watching Deborah’s tape and discovering more about her past
I love Hannah Einbinder’s simple but sincere delivery of “I knew you would” as Ava, and the way Jean Smart lets just the tiniest smile play across Deborah’s lips in response to Ava’s belief in her
Ava being able to only write stuff for Deborah’s Late Night show and not any actual material of her own shows that even though it’s been a year plus since the S2 Finale she still has the same issue of Deborah being “the one with all the stories. What do I even have to say?”
Ava’s voice going up endearingly high when she says “This is gonna be amazing” is very cute, what a touching and lovely scene between Deborah and Ava showing the respect and admiration they have for each other. I’m sure that will continue for the rest of the finale!

Very fun comedy freaking out by Mark Indelicato as Damien, him becoming hysterical at the thought of becoming the new Marcus is hugely entertaining.
According to Hannah Einbinder and Jean Smart on Variety’s Award Circuit podcast, thy did shoot a scene for this episode where Marcus does tell Deborah that he’s leaving but it was cut from the episode. Honestly not sure what role Marcus will play next season and curious to see what the writers will do since it seems he’s going on a very different plotline than the rest of the show. If this was another show I’d say he’s being written out but from interviews and other behind the scenes material the cast and showrunners are fairly tight knit, so I’d imagine they’ll find a way which makes sense for Marcus to continue being around
Between this guest appearance as Bella Donaldson and the release of Lisa Frankenstein and Abigail, Kathryn Newton is quietly having a pretty cool 2024. She absolutely nails the passive-aggressive “nice” girl type that she’s asked to play here. Also the Zack and Cody mention is kind of neat since Newton starred along with Cole Sprouse in Lisa Frankenstein earlier this year, while the goat demon movie mentioned might possibly be a nod to Newton’s affinity for the horro horror adjacent genre?
Quite like this Jimmy/Kayla B plot, allows Meg Stalter to show a different/more emotional side to Kayla who’s usually just the very fun comedic relief. Her smiling nicely and trying to politely ward off Bella’s passive-aggressive “niceness” is such a deeply human character beat.
Deborah Margesson doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as Deborah Vance, so I guess that’s why she didn’t go back to her maiden name after the divorce.
Deborah moving her parent’s remains to Vegas and not telling Kathy for twenty plus years is absolutely deranged behaviour. “It was a corner plot” and “I used my art shipper!” are ridiculously bad responses to the situation, this being the last straw for Kathy is very understandable. Although in Deborah’s defence I guess the fact that she was willing to accompany Kathy to the mausoleum for what she knows to be a completely empty gesture is her deranged way of showing care for her sister and not wanting to hurt her feelings.
Also in hindsight Deborah lying to/not telling Kathy about their parents to avoid hurting her feelings and any conflict is good foreshadowing since that pretty much turns out to be what she does regarding Ava and the head writer job
Deborah’s look of absolute disdain/confusion after hearing the “going to the hardware store for milk” line is gold from Jean Smart
I think Kathy’s reaction to Deborah here and deciding that she’s had enough of her BS and not wanting to put herself through even more hurt in attempting to maintain a relationship is completely reasonable, really liked J Smith Cameron’s work here, as well as Jean Smart playing Deborah’s silent acceptance of this relationship blowing up yet again

Kathy’s reaction to Deborah’s BS here serves as a great contrast to how Ava deals with Deborah’s BS later on in the episode, it truly takes someone special/equally deranged to want to continue being with Deborah despite all her flaws and the hurt she causes to those around her. To use some internet parlance, Kathy is unwilling to put up with Deborah’s freak, while Ava ends up being more than willing to match Deborah’s
Lewis Benton/ fake John Oliver’s line to Ava about her being the hardest-working person in the office is a nice reminder of how working with Deborah has changed Ava for the better in some ways by giving her a stronger work ethic
“Maybe our paths will cross again” Just speculating here, and maybe this would be too inside baseball of a storyline for a show that initially at least was about two people on the “outside” of the entertainment industry, but might there be a future storyline of Deborah competing against fake John Oliver for an Emmy? A recent Emmy rule change starting from the Emmys earlier this year means that Oliver no longer competes with the more traditional Late Night shows like Colbert, Kimmel, Meyers, The Daily Show etc prior to that this had been the case for the past ten or so years
Kayla being the funny one growing up as a defense mechanism against bullies like Bella is such a great character detail on the part of the writers, makes so much sense and explains so much about Kayla’s outlook and attitude
This conflict is so great because both Jimmy and Kayla do have a point. Obviously Jimmy standing up for Kayla who’s being bullied is a good thing for him to do as a friend, but Kayla’s also not wrong in feeling that Jimmy is kind of ignoring her work and being a bit patronising. Really liked how Meg Stalter plays Kayla’s hurt feelings in this scene, it’s a well-executed emotional beat for a generally comedic character. And this continues the throughline about whether Jimmy has what it takes/enough stones and guts to be in the business which was also seen in the back part of S2
Quite liked the scene between Deborah and Biff Cliff (what a name!), a pretty sobering reminder of the obstacles faced by women in entertainment and just how precarious making it in the business actually is, makes complete sense that it would spook Deborah to do what she does later on
I thought the Jimmy Page dating a 14 year old story was meant to be a jab and Jerry Seinfeld and his 17 year old girlfriend, but googled and found out that that was a true story too
I feel like the bit Ava has as a writer taking new headshots and the different treatment they receive compared to actors must be drawn from the real-life experiences of the writers/showrunners, it’s such a specific joke. That said I think if you asked a layperson to tell who’s a writer and who’s an actor from this Deadline photoshoot I think they’d be hard pressed to tell the difference (very complimentary).
Ava sharing her excitement over her “dream job” as head writer for Deborah with a random make-up artist is very endearing, and just makes what happens later on even more crushing
Deborah going to the exec meeting and slowly realising just how much is being invested in her is a great bit of reaction acting from Jean Smart, and further helps reinforce the pressure she’s under and explains her choices
Quite liked the scene of Deborah telling Ava that the network doesn’t want her as head writer, on first watch it seems like Deborah is just worried about how to break the bad news to Ava and let her down easy, but on rewatch it feels so obvious that Deborah is just lying through her teeth to Ava and struggling with it big time.
Jimmy’s “proposal” to Kayla on the plane is such a great comedic setpiece/skewing of the rom-con trope, everything from the overly-excited passenger who completely misreads the situation to Jimmy kneeling because the flight attendant says there’s no standing in the aisle is just perfect.
It’s also just a really good way to cap off the season long plot involving Jimmy and Kayla, we’ve seen throughout the season that they make a very good thing and that Kayla’s kind of a genius at this in her own unique way, very satisfying to see Jimmy finally recognise this and promote her. Jimmy and Kayla’s mentomentee relationship serves as a healthy contrast to Deborah and Ava,with Jimmy as a mentor who recognises the mentee’s contributions and is willing to make compromises (see his acceptance of Kayla’s three funny videos a day)
Jimmy’s voice going up absurdly high when he says “Leave us alone!!!” and “What is your deal” is fantastic comedic work from co-showrunner Paul W Downs, he’ll get Writing and Series Emmy nominations this year, but he should really be getting one for Supporting Actor too.
I guess if you want to nitpick you could say Ava running into Winnie is a very convenient thing to move the plot along, but I choose to look at is as a reminder that Ava has moved on up in the world since the end of S2 and is now at a place where she can get takeout from fancy places where a high-level network head might also dine

Deborah is reading a Churchill biography when Ava storms in
My god, Ava confronting Deborah is just a perfect perfect scene, the writing is so sharp and Jean Smart is fantastic at playing Deborah going into ice/hardened mode when being confronted, but what a tremendous performance by Hannah Einbinder. She just captures the mixture of betrayal, hurt and anger that Ava feels so naturally and powerfully
There’s so many callbacks and references to previous Deborah/Ava confrontations and scenes from across the show. Ava accusing Deborah of just doing the same thing is from their very first meeting S1E1 where she calls her a hack as well as from their argument in S1E10 when she calls her the same thing. The line about being “a shark or whatever” comes from S2E5 which is what Deborah’s retired comedian friend Susan describes her as, with Deborah later then telling Ava that “You’ve got to be a shark” at the end of S2E8. And Deborah’s advice to Ava to be ambitious and saying that she feels lonely when opening a champagne bottle comes from S3E5 (take that people who said the woods episode was pointless filler).
“You can be the woman behind the man behind the woman” What an unappealing job description, and also a sign of how far Ava has comes since the S2 finale when she was unwilling to take the credit for writing Deborah’s special. Now her time away from Deborah has allowed Ava the space to truly value herself, her achievements and be justifiably proud of them (she stresses her job at On The Contrary to Deborah back in S3E1 and stresses her co-producer role when in bed with Christina Hendricks in S3E6), and she’s no longer willing to accept this demotion and wants credit for her work.
“You’re already making decisions out of fear and you’ll keep doing it” A really cutting observation from Ava which completely nails what Deborah is doing, much like how she immediately clocks in S2E8 that Deborah is pushing her away because she’s afraid.
“It has to work. I’ve lost way too much for it not too” Deborah’s sentiment applies equally to Ava as it does to herself, and helps explain just why Ava would go to the the extremes she does later on
As much as the dialogue in the scene is great, this Deborah and Ava argument also hits hard because of the silent moments in between. The wordless ten seconds or so which rests entirely on Ava after Deborah says that she’s willing to lose her is just tremendous stuff from Hannah Einbinder, all the hurt plays across her face and Einbinder is simply terrific in making the audience feel the deep hurt and sense of betrayal of that moment
Ava saying that Deborah will die alone is something that Deborah has thought about before, saying back in S1E9 in her interview with a journalist that she accepts the truth that people leave the world completely alone and refuses to pretend otherwise
One Last Time - Deb’s Final Stand Up is the track which plays as the big Deborah/Ava argument scene closes out according to Shazam, with the track (that played in the S1 Finale) taking on a whole new meaning in this context. The soundtrack isn’t a big selling point of the show unlike something like say Succession, but the themes by Carlos Rafael Rivera are simple but always effective
Jimmy taking a selfie in his new office is quite cute, and him saying that he didn’t do it alone and comforting Ava at the end of this scene is a much needed nice beat after the intensity of the previous scene
“shows that already exist with one tiny tweak, or huge global hits” Honestly a pretty depressing but frankly accurate read of the current media/television landscape
Jimmy saying that he knows Ava will do the right thing brings to mind these Deborah lines to Ava from the previous episode “It’s so easy for you to say what’s right or wrong. It’s never that simple. One day you’ll understand that” Ava’s move of blackmailing to get Deborah to do right by her certainly falls into the “never that simple” category
Curious about the politics/legal behind the scenes stuff that needed to be cleared to have Deborah be the host of a CBS late night show in the world of Hacks, while Hacks the actual show is under Warner Bros. Discovery which does not own hacks. I guess in this universe Deborah gets the Late Late Show timeslot instead of Taylor Tomlinson with After Midnight
Deborah’s left Vegas but the vanity plate for her car will continue to follow her and be updated
Deborah excitedly taking a photo of her Host parking spot is very cute, but the beat immediately after when we see a hint of her being sad and uneasy/regretful is also great, she’s achieved her dream but at great personal cost, and has no one to share the photo and moment with
It’s been a central thesis of the show that Deborah and Ava are ultimately more alike than different despite their different ages, backgrounds etc. Even in S1E2 the antiques dealer says that Deborah and Ava are “the same” and are “both psychotic b*tches”, and in episode after episode we see just how alike they are. For example in S2E2 after Deborah finds out about the email she says that Ava is just like her, being equally cruel and selfish. Ava blackmailing her abusive boss so that she can continue to work with her is just a completely insane thing to do, and also very much something Deborah would do herself to help her career, as we saw back in S1E5 when Deborah blackmailed Marty to secure her dates at the Palmetto
This move also shows just how much Ava has learnt from Deborah and how much the student has learnt from the master. Ava takes Deborah’s advice from S2E8 to be a shark, and her advice from S3E5 to “concentrate on what’s best for you”. It’s also ends up becoming a twisted version of Ava saying that she won’t leave Deborah in that same episode too, with Ava resorting to blackmail to stay with Deborah. And Ava finally does what she said back in S2E8, which is that “I get to decide what’s best for me”. I love love love the layers to this show!
I love love love the cocky and slightly confident/smirking Ava that we get a brief glimpse of from this scene, coupled with the power suit she’s rocking it makes for such a satisfying moment as she gets one up over Deborah after being on the back foot previously
We’ve seen a different and more vulnerable side of Deborah this season in S3E5 and S3E7, and seen her be like a fangirl in S3E4, but this scene and her stepping up to Ava and slightly seething as she says “You wouldn’t” is a nice reminder that she can be absolutely terrifying when she wants to be
That tiny tiny little gulp that Hannah Einbinder does when/just after Ava says “I would” is so so good, Ava’s standing up to Deborah but Deborah is still one very scary person. Also really love her cocking her head to one side as she says “Wouldn’t you?”
This has already been pointed out on Twitter, but Deborah and Ava sitting apart in the writer’s room at the end is kind of like the pepper shakers which Deborah rearranged to be apart in S3E1. Also a nice contrast to S3E8 when they were sitting apart as Ava was reporting the journalist’s article to Deborah, even despite them sitting separately they were still very close emotionally, but now the physical distance between them is reflective of the division between them as friends/colleagues
Spoilers for Succession S2E10: This Hacks finale is very reminiscent of the Succession S2 Final This Is Not For Tears. In both episodes the older mentor who’s been trying to teach their protege/successor to be harder and tougher ends up being too good at their job and get betrayed by their mentee in a stunning rug pull moment, even though for much of the season it seems the mentee is perfectly content working undefor their mentor. It’s a plot twist that’s both completely shocking in the moment yet makes so much sense when looking back on the season and the series as a whole. And of course the finale ends on a shot of the older mentor as they take in what their mentee has done, with a mixture of anger but also just the slightest hint of pride and begrudging admiration
This final twist in the finale of Ava blackmailing Deborah is so so good and satisfying, does what great season finales do which is deliver a “twist” that feels like a gut punch initially but has actually been building over the season, and sets up a really juicy scenario/ status quo for next season
Ava blackmailing her way to head writer on Deborah’s show is such a juicy scenario to leave things for Season 4, Ava has never had power over Deborah like she does now and I’m personally very much looking forward to how that changes their dynamic next season
My only concern is that I do hope the Vegas aspect and the characters from that part of the Hacks universe don’t get left behind with the focus shifting to running a Late Night show. If there is something to ding this season of the show it’s that there’s not enough Kiki, I’m not smart enough to figure out how a Vegas casino dealer will be able to regularly show up in LA but I selfishly want the writers to figure that out because Poppy Liu is just too fun as Kiki to leave out. Also kind of curious as to how they’ll keep Marcus around since he’s now leaving Deborah’s QVC empire.
Overall a really really great season finale and a very strong season as a whole, easily the best Comedy of the year and one of the best shows of the year. Really rooting for the show to win big prizes at the Emmys later this year against the Bear although that will be tough, pulling hard for Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder to win and for the show to at least win Writing if it can’t win for Comedy Series. Also would be very happy if Meg Stalter and Paul W Downs got their first-time noms this year, they were both great this season

I'm currently working on a maze for a one shot. The issue with mazes is that everyone can metagame their way out. So my solution is to make it all about skill checks/saving throws.
To clarify, there won't be a map and this this going to be an 'amnesia' maze. So the players will have an encounter, then zone out, then have next encounter. They can pass the checks as very quickly, or slowly, but whenever they pass a set amount they get to the end of the maze.
What I need help with is the encounters. This is supposed to be creepy and spooky. Here's what I have so far:
-Scribbling on the wall in your own handwriting "This is the wrong way"
-A severed finger that wears your signet ring
-Fingers dragging along the wall, for a length of time that is unknown, but your fingers are bloody
-A pile of broken lockpicks at the locked door.
-Someone remembers you, tells you you're going the right way
-A drawing of the maze with no way out, signed by your name
-A group of dead bodies that look like you (signal changeling attack)
-A trail of burned out matches
-Someone stalking you, moaning your name and the things that have happened
-A note in your handwriting, explaining got to get out, that ends abruptly
-Find your missing weapon/armor, rusted.
-A splintered door with an objective through it. Clearly attacked with your weapon
-A half solved puzzle, with a note saying there isn't much time left
-Piles of bones from skeletons that have been killed
-Lose a key for a door
-Find same key somewhere you've not been before
-Walls closing in, pressing against you, then back to normal
Thoughts? Suggestions?

After a couple successful Apoc campaigns and a fair bit of building on my main save I decided I'd finally bite the bullet and make attempts at Veteran Hardcore for the Savior gun which now has a Corrupted variant that's seen a lot of buzz and for the first time since launch this reward interested me.
Luckily I had a few advantages compared to a truly fresh save as one would expect, for starters I would be able to start Engineer since its a nice, durable class with good starting gear and the turret can be really nice both wielding it and setting it. My playstyle ended up leaning more towards setting and forgetting despite the obscene damage the held turret can generate. I'm just not as used to or comfortable with the hops for dodging with it yet, it's not a class I play a lot.
My immediate routine in Ward 13 each run would be to buy Worlds Edge, get the smg, and get Challenger asap for a bulky offense type of build with a death failsafe in ChallengeEngineer, selling what I needed to accomplish this early in world one. If Cass had nice rings I'd pick those up too next. Upgrading my weapons took a backseat early on in favor of procuring other resources, plus I didn't want to risk ramping up world level progress and I could always fall back on the turret that scaled regardless which was an advantage to picking Engineer to start. I could've stuck it out with the rupture cannon Engineer comes with as well as it's a nice handgun but tbh I just wanted to play with the smg as I discovered it insanely late on my main and it's a real nice all rounder gun.
Worlds Edge access wasn't as much of a game changer as I anticipated. An unitemized build just doesn't have the stamina management to really make it a beast, not to mention the lack of Steadfast. There were plenty of situations where it cleared lines of mobs real nice but I could've managed without it. The bulk of my damage came from the Pulse Rifle and SMG packing ammo mods.
I had a reasoning in mind for how I'd start the campaign in terms of eliminating threats for the first world. I decided I wanted to reroll until I started in Nerud with Tal Ratha as the world boss. Shahala spirit form had recently scarred me in an apoc campaign and I was not at all confident in my ability to no death him nor was it ideal to search for the item needed to trigger the (imo) easier physical Shahala fight. On the other hand the alternate spirit Tal Ratha fight is a massive pushover for me personally and it's free to trigger, so I got to it and this first world went pretty smoothly save for a couple minor scares with the shielded elite drones. I sensibly walked away from what I knew was an aberration encounter with one of these in a side dungeon.
First world was done and now we get to the first of my two run enders, the Cube God. Cube God giveth, Cube God taketh. Though I seriously underestimated how different he was in Veteran compared to Apoc I made a silly mistake and got splattered by a cube. First run over, time to rinse and repeat the above process, nothing goes awry in Nerud again aside from a dicey first boss in Primogenitor and this time I get past the Labyrinth Sentinel and get to go to Losomn next. Posts already gonna be long af so I'll keep this second run brief, it ended because I got Magister Dullain and he killed me with his bs. Really sucks that my only resets occurred in circumstances where Challenger can't save you. Actually really dumb that it doesn't here, I can accept that Challenger won't save me from the Cube God but Magister Dullain's ability to bypass Die Hard feels oddly out of place.
Well, time to try again, and this time I got some really nice items in Nerud that gave me a lot of longevity to make up for the limited healing early on, namely I got the Reserve Boosting Gem and Hardcore Metal Band in this run along with Dead King Memento from Cass. Also got Legacy Protocol here for my turret and war stomps that could come in handy for shield bots. Real neat. My build felt so strong I even went for the train event which I had originally designated as too risky.
Nerud is also where I picked up what was probably my key to success for general exploring in Hardcore and something I had really slept on before, Stasis Beam. It really makes elites a non issue that could otherwise pose a threat, particularly the scary Losomn ones like the knights, mini Dullains, and pin dudes that can insta kill you. Root Earth elites are also just nasty and stasis helps a lot for them.
Made it past the Cube God thankfully and got Losomn next again with Dreamweaver world boss. Nothing too eventful happens here. Gwendil and the Huntress both aren't very tough by this point and I even got the Whispering Marble amulet here to further complement my build. Dreamweaver nearly makes me use a Die Hard but ultimately she goes down. Turret and Worlds Edge came in handy for her adds.
Yaesha is next and I get the Corrupter world boss. Eh, would've liked to have seen Ravager instead since gravity is a factor for Corrupter and I could always alt skip the Ravager fight. Oh well. On the bright side I got access to Barkskin here which really just made me nigh indestructible at this point, and I was also very happy to see Earthen Colosseum as my mandatory dungeon meaning I got to fight the Stonewarden pushover and not Mother Mind, Legion, or Shrewd. While in Nerud and Losomn I took some detours for scrap and traits in Yaesha I basically beelined it to Widows Court to get the world done. Turns out I was stressing Corrupter for no reason, as I was so tanky I could actually just skip the platforming and tank the beam attack reasonably well. Easy fight.
Time for Root Earth, and yeah this whole area is a gauntlet of pain. I wasn't very scared of Venom though since by now I had his fight practiced to a science and he only gets truly awful with two chances to roll nasty modifiers like he gets in Apoc. In fact Cancer proved to be more of a threat this time as he actually made me proc Die Hard with a shockwave. But even more stressful than either of them is that dreaded room of death with two Walkers and a mini Venom elite. Yeah I lured the elite out into the previous room and just zoned the Walkers going in and out of the corridor. No shame.
Annihilation wasn't too tough. Her damage wasn't negligible per say but nothing unmanageable and again I have this fight practiced so much and I believe it got elemental resist mod or something so yeah nothing scary at all. Melted it with Pulse Rifle and SMG armed with abrasive rounds and hot shot as well as having picked up the Burden of the Destroyer by this point and also opted for Kinetic Cycle stone before Venom to set my turret faster.
Finally I claimed my rewards including Savior at last......aaand then quit playing Remnant 2 to finally play the first one that I had been neglecting.

Kelt’ch stared at the passenger list, his thorax starting to vibrate with worry as he looked down at the list of names in front of him. This couldn’t be right, this couldn’t be happening. Why here, why now? ‘Station Joreial’ was a Kirken station: small, rarely used, a bit of a dump that serviced a few of the lesser used mining stations. Mostly smaller merchants transporting materials and supplies… as well as a non-insignificant amount of criminal activity that existed here in the outer reaches of the insectoid species’ aura of influence.
All of those ships going to and fro provided an official reason for travel and an official passenger list. Within the list of ships providing travel plans over the next week, a single vessel stood out to Kelt’ch: a Terran vessel. Their official reason for visiting was transporting supplies to the various mining stations around the area, but the real worry came from the passenger list. 2 Terran crew members listed… one of which had a name that filled the Kirken reading it with terror.
Admiral.
“What’s wrong Kelt’ch? You look like you’ve seen a spirit.”
Kelt’ch looked up from the data pad he was holding, his wings fluttering with apprehension and antennae twitching from side to side as Parsk’l, the female Kirken he co-owned the station with, asked him the question.
“What’s wrong? What’s wrong!? Look at this, look who is visiting the station!”
The Kirken thrust the data pad into the face of the other while his three remaining hands were wrung with anxiety. Parsk’l glanced at it a moment, her head tilting to the side in confusion.
“Oh, we’re getting a Terran visitor. We recently joined their Alliance, didn’t we? That’ll be fun, what’s wrong with that?”
Kelt’ch gave an antennae swish of incredulity at that statement as all 4 feet of the insect looked back at her. How could she not see the problem?
“Ignoring the fact that Terrans are 6 feet of angry, terrifying primate from a world so heavy they could punch a hole through my chitin with their bare hands? It’s an admiral. Literally a top military man from a deathworlder species.”
“Huh, neat. Wonder why they’re coming here? Anyways, what’s the issue?”
The response from Parsk’l caused Kelt’ch to take flight a few inches off the ground in anxiety and annoyance, wings beating to keep the insect in the air as their four arms gestured wildly.
“What’s the issue?! What’s the issue?! You remember what a crap hole we own, right?! We don’t sweep too often because I’m convinced the dust is load bearing and keeping the entire station from breaking apart. When was the last time we got the grav generator serviced?”
“Well… I think that was a couple of decades ago when the service came free with the…”
“When did we last change the filters on the air filtration system?”
“It’s the first of the month right now, so… 10… 20…. When was the station built?”
“How much of the business passing through the station is illegal smugglers?”
“How can we really define illegal… OK I get your point. Maybe they won’t mind and will think it’s normal.”
Kelt’ch stopped flitting about, finally landing as he just stared at his business partner, anxiety giving way to an incredulous feeling, as if Parsk’l had said the most stupid of things.
“This is a top military mind of the Terrans. The last time someone pissed them off, they blew up one of the Hatil’s worlds!”
“Well the Hatil did declare war on them, and they kinda suck technologically. It won’t be that bad, right?”
“I’m not taking that risk!” Kelt’ch took on a more authoritative voice as he spoke, the change in demeanour suggesting action and a plan to be had. “We need to clean up, make sure everything is in tip-top shape, ensure nothing illegal is happening while the Terran is here… all in five days…”
All four of his hands held his head in despair as the size of the monumental task that lay ahead of the Kirken fully hit him.
God, the Terran Admiral is going to kill us.

Kelt’ch could feel a silent rage building inside of him as he looked around the engine room. He’d not been down here in years, but the once shiny room was a travesty. The control panels and various diagnostic systems were somewhere under all of the mess, but every single surface was covered in… rubbish. Half worked on broken pieces of machinery, empty food containers and mould covered drinking glasses. The Kirken was lucky he could fly, otherwise he’d be wading knee-deep in the grime.
Even worse was the lack of… professionalism of the general working environment. Plastered all over the walls and various pieces of equipment were photos and stickers of a… not safe for work nature. At the centre of all of this sat the man who was supposed to be in charge, the Kirken engineer who was hired to maintain the station’s engines, seemingly unconcerned about the state of the room.
“What in the ever living scorch is all this!”
Kelt’ch’s voice rang out with rage as he stared upon the absolute disgrace that his station was in. Sure, Kelt’ch knew that the station was hardly a 5-star establishment, but this was… this was… there were no words for it.
“Dude, you need to chill, you’re harshing my vibe.”
Kelt’ch stared at the man who technically had the job title “Chief Engineer of Station Joreial’. Sure, the guy was cheap and had no real experience when he’d hired him 5 years ago, but this was…
“Are you high right now!”
“Ha ha, how can I be high when I’m not even flying… You look stressed, I got a little something for that, the guys down at the docking station got it for me.”
Kelt’ch felt like he was going to have an attack in at least one of his hearts, the stabbing chest pains increasing whenever he stared at the monstrosity that lay around him and the complete lack of care his engineer seemingly had.
“I’m stressed because this place is a mess, you are on drugs, and a Terran admiral is going to be here in five days!”
“Bro, don’t flutter dude. Terrans don’t exist, they’re an imaginary creation of the government to scare people into paying their taxes. That’s why I don’t pay tax to anyone.”
That was it, Kelt’ch flew over to the drugged out engineer, spinning the insect’s chair to face him as he screamed at the Kirken with the rage of a million suns.
“Terrans exist, and they are going to tear you apart with their deathworlder strength unless you fix this! I want this mess cleaned up, I want every log of every piece of maintenance done in the last two years, and get rid of these posters and stickers as well!”
“Duude, party foul!” The Engineer's antennae were twitching with worry as Kelt’ch was completely up in his face. “Those stickers are official engineer supplies, you can’t get rid of them.”
“That is not an Engineering piece of equipment. That is a sticker of a Kirken woman…. With her broodcapsule showing to the world!” Kelt’ch whispered the last part angrily. “Get rid of it!”
With that, the Kirken reached over to the offending sticker, tucking his insectoid fingers underneath the glue covered paper and starting to peel it off the console it was attached to. The room was plunged into darkness as the power went out, the sound of machines and various processes that kept the inhabitants of the station alive all going silent at once. A clicking clunking sound echoed through the room as the backup life support systems tried to spin to life, a few moments passing before those machines gave up, leaving the pair and every member of the station in the dark.
Slowly, with a feeling of dread and fear, Kelt’ch slapped the offensive sticker back where he found it, hoping that the life support systems would start running again. Thankfully, the lights turned back on with a lengthy stutter as the machines running the space station once again started to spin and churn.
“See dude, I told you that sticker was important.”
“Why is the entire ship’s power supply being held together with a sticker?! How long has this been going on!”
“Bro, it’s not just that sticker, it’s all the stickers. And like, it’s been working for two years, so who cares, it’s all good!”
Kelt’ch was suddenly a lot less concerned with the arrival of the Terran admiral, and a lot more concerned with the station exploding while he stood in it.
I know I haven't been paying too much attention to the nitty-gritty day to day running of the station, but is it really this bad?
“This is not good! Exactly what is wrong with the station that we have a load bearing sticker!”
“I dunno, it's kinda weird bro.”
“How do you not know! I hired you because you have a degree in Theoretical Warp Engineering, it is literally your job to know!”
“Dude, I said I have a Theoretical degree in Warp Engineering. Stop being so harsh dude.”
Kelt’ch was going to kill him. The Kirken was going to murder this supposed engineer. In a fit of rage he grabbed the idiot and lifted him out of the chair, wings beating furiously as he screamed at the fraud with every fibre of his being.
“You are going to clean this place up, you are going to work out what we need to do to fix this place, or by everything holy and righteous in this universe, when the Terran Admiral arrives I will feed you to the 6ft tall deathworlder primate! Do you understand!”
The quivering antennae on the ‘engineer’ stated that whatever drugs he was on, wasn’t enough to counteract the ‘harsh vibes’ that Kelt’ch was now giving off.
“I’ll… I’ll get right on that.”

Of all the places on Station Joreial, the kitchen was the closest to being decent. Before Kelt’ch had saved up enough to get into the world of investing and buy this station, he had worked in a variety of kitchens.
He didn't know much about engineering, or docking procedures, but he did know enough about kitchens to hire employees good enough to keep things running. It was probably the most important part of running a station: pilots and cargo haulers would forgive a lot of things if they coould get a decent meal and drinkable stimulants.
“So, listen up, we're going to be visited by the most important visitor this station has ever had in two days time.”
Two days. That's all he had left. The last three days had been a terrible blur of cleaning and trying to fix everything that had been left abandoned over the last decade.
Replacing the air filtration system filters had been a horrific task in claustrophobia, trying to test the emergency fire suppression system had caused a small fire, and Kelt’ch had discovered three janitors on the payroll who hadn't turned up for work for several years.
Still, the Kirken couldn't help but feel that he was starting to ‘win’ this battle.
“So, I want there to be the best platter we have to offer. I know you are all capable of making something to wow and impress.”
Kelt’ch could see a small amount of excitement building in the 5-man crew. The 4 Kirken and single amphibian Zorthian that made up the kitchen staff were all surprisingly talented for their place of work, and the chance to spread their culinary wings was one they didn't get often.
“This member is also a deathworlder, meaning even the dangerous stuff is allowed. Capsaicin, caffeine, arsenic, cyanide. I'm trusting in you all to give our guests the best meal he's eaten outside of his home planet!”
“Who is this mystery guest?” asked the head chef, antennae twitching with excitement as he asked.
“Our new galactic partners, a Terran. Large primate deathworlders, very strong, very powerful. Not only that, one of the pair will be an Admiral.”
The change in the demeanour of the cooking staff was immediate, the four Kirken losing all enthusiasm and glancing at each other with worry and fear. Each of them silently and without a word dropped whatever they were holding, and started to leave the kitchen, pushing past Kelt’ch in order to exit.
“Wait, what's wrong? Where are you going?!”
The station owner chased after the four, frantically trying to stop most of his kitchen staff from leaving as they made a beeline to the docking bay of the station.
“If you're worried about them being deathworlders, I've been told that they're perfectly safe! They don't eat people at all!”
At this his head cook turned to face Kelt’ch, his brief hopes that they were reconsidering abandoning their post dashed by the Kirken’s next words.
“Look, Kelt’ch, I'm gonna be honest with you because you're a real one. All of us have way too many warrants to be in the same system as an Admiral, let alone on the same station. If the job still exists in three days’ time then we’ll be back, but until then… I’ve got priors and missed court dates. I can’t be having an Admiral Deathworlder finding out about those.”
There was nothing Kelt’ch could say to the four as they took the first transport off the station they could, not even taking the time to retrieve their belongings, making good on their promise of placing as much distance between themselves and the eventual arrival of the Admiral, leaving the station owner alone and in despair.
With heavy hearts Kelt’ch made his way back to the kitchen, where the last remaining staff member stood, the Zorthian still silently doing prep work where he’d left him.
“Well, at least you’re still here.”
There was a moment as the amphibian looked up for a moment, confused, before fiddling with a device that sat in their ear.
“Sorry boss, did you need me? I had my translator turned off as I was listening to music. Did you say something?”

The day was finally here. Kelt’ch stood in the docking bay, his four hands being wrung together in worry as he watched the ship approach. The station was in… a passable state. The engines had been fixed to the point where he was relatively certain it wasn’t going to explode, catering had been ordered in to replace his kitchen staff, the Yult-mite infestation had been reduced to manageable levels, and the cargo haulers who had been running a Spice ring had been let go and driven off of the station. Kelt’ch had been awake for 5 solid days, and was only awake right now due to said Spice ring, but station Joreial was… passable. Not a 5-star establishment, not even nice looking, but… passable.
Maybe the Terran Admiral would be fooled.
Kelt’ch was alone as the Terran’s vessel docked, it’s name ‘Mostly Duct-tape’ painted on the side. Parsk’l had long since collapsed with exhaustion, leaving the single Kirken alone to greet the Admiral, but all gods be damned, he wasn’t going to fail at this last hurdle. The Terran’s ship was surprisingly small… ratty looking even, its paint fading and an outside that could have honestly done with a scrub down. Kelt’ch was expecting something far more grandiose, of silvers and golds, more like royalty.
Still, it did kind of make sense. The Terrans were a deathworlder species. They probably didn’t care for aesthetics and put a greater value in functionality. Maybe they’d be impressed with Station Joreial’s minimalist efficiency.
The door to the small vessel opened and Kelt’ch got to see his first Terran. They really were as scary as the descriptions made them out to be, towering over the average Kirken at over 6 feet tall. The primate that exited was wearing a spacesuit, but underneath the protective fabric he could clearly seethe powerful muscles that could tear through an exoskeleton like paper
The Terran stumbled out of his vessel, the flightless mammal taking a few steps down the exit ramp as they looked around for a few moments, before finally taking their helmet off. This was not what Kelt’ch was expecting…
Messy wild hair, an unshaven face, and bags under their eyes from a lack of self-care. Sure, Kelt’ch had never seen a Terran in the flesh before, but they had seen pictures of their diplomats and generals on the news. This figure did not look like them. This figure looked like 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag.
Confusion gave way to understanding as the Kirken remembered that the manifest had two names on it. Clearly this second person, a ‘Cameron Stanley’, was the Admiral’s bodyguard. Yes, such a rough individual made sense for a deathworlder tasked with protecting such an important person.
Kelt’ch flew over as fast as he could to greet the Terran, who was getting more and more confused. The Kirken had done their research, so Cameron had left his ship to a literal red carpet laid out in the middle of the docking bay, a small buffet of food placed to the side. Kelt’ch held out a hand in a traditional Terran greeting, which Cameron took and shook awkwardly, trying to blink past the absolute hangover he was nursing from the activities of the days before.
“Hello Terran delegate. This is station Joreial, and I am its owner, Kelt’ch. We are so glad you have decided to grace us with your presence.”
Cameron just stared blankly back at the strange insect, trying to look past his banging headache at a cargo bay which was just too bright.
“What?”
Kelt’ch paused for a few moments, before deciding that this bodyguard was clearly a man of few words, being a man of action. The Kirken guided an increasingly bewildered Cameron towards the buffet.
“The station is perfectly secure, safe and a state-of-the-art facility. You and your charge may enjoy this complimentary edible selection that I hope fulfils your deathworlder pallet!”
Cameron looked down at the selection of food laying before him. He gave an involuntary groan at the thought of eating in his current state. Just as well, since in an attempt to impress Kelt’ch had gone out of his way to procure deathworlder ready catering, making the vast majority of the food on offer very lethal to even Terrans.
“Oh I couldn't right now… but thanks!”
Another awkward pause, as both Terran and Kirken stood in silence, both waiting for the other to make the first move, a growing feeling of discontent emanating from both sides. Cameron was way too hung over to understand what was going on, so Kelt’ch had to break the silence first.
“So as you can see, everything is safe. Will the Admiral be exiting soon?”
“Who?”
The Terran turned back to look at his ship, confused, wondering if he'd picked up an extra passenger during the last week’s events, while Kelt’ch started to get worried that this was somehow a different Terran vessel.
“The second person on your manifest. An ‘Admiral CleansALot’.”
Cameron gave a laugh at that.
“Oh yeah! Well, this isn’t really his vibe. Little guy would get lost out here.”
“It really is no trouble, we can make sure that the admiral stays safe.”
Cameron gave another laugh at that, the idea of this insect protecting the Admiral making the Terran giggle, fading away as he realized the Kirken was being serious.
“Wait, you’re not joking? The Admiral can’t come out in this environment.”
There was a pause as Kelt’ch understood those words, the insect eventually deciding to get angry at them, insulted even. 5 days ago if he’d known the Admiral was too stuck up to even leave his ship, he would have been overjoyed. But after 5 days of tireless work… god-damn it he wanted some respect.
“What, am I not good enough to even be graced with his presence? I know this isn’t the best station or the most famous, but to not even give the briefest of greetings… It’s rather very rude, and shows the Terrans in a bad light.”
At this Cameron gave a single raised eyebrow, a smirk hovering over his lips.
“You want to see the Admiral? Sure. Just follow me and you can meet him!”
That was what they did, Kelt’ch following the Terran into his vessel, a dingy, dirty thing. Smaller than expected, lacking maintenance or care, a simple cargo hauler. If anything it was worse than the station, filled with empty beer cans and needing a severe deep clean. A small part of the Kirken’s mind was putting something together that this wasn’t right, but the annoyance of being snubbed by the Terran Admiral was clouding out that part of his judgement.
Finally, with an overactive flourish, Cameron pointed to the ‘esteemed’ Admiral, announcing him with an over enthusiastic and regal voice.
“Now introducing, for the station owner's pleasure, the honourable ‘Admiral CleansALot’!”
The cleaning drone trundled along the floor completely oblivious to the two people watching it, bouncing off of the walls as it did so, the tricorn hat taped to the top wobbling as it moved. Kelt’ch just stared at it for a moment, feeling all of the life drain out of his body as he watched the little mindless drone go about its cleaning.
“Is this a trick? This cannot be…”
“This is Admiral CleansALot. The ship wouldn’t run without the little dude, honestly he’s the real brains of the operation!”
Kelt’ch turned to look at the Terran, who was looking rather smug with himself.
“But why? I’ve spent the last five days doing nothing but getting ready for an Admiral to visit, and I find that you’ve given a cleaning done a military rank! But why?!”
The Terran paused for a moment, seemingly considering their next response.
“Honestly? It’s kinda funny.”
An unholy scream erupted from Kelt’ch’s thorax as the pressure of the last five days erupted in one moment. Maybe it was his exhaustion, maybe it was the illegal substances he was using in order to stay awake. But the Kirken did something he thought he’d never do, and launched himself in a rage at Cameron, trying to wrap his hands around the stupid primate deathworlder to throttle the idiot.

Welcome back to my running series of WWF PPV Reviews from a ‘blind’ perspective (I have no idea what’s going to happen; the results, the feuds or how good any of the matches will be). I have always heard stories of the attitude era and golden age but never watched it myself so I set myself to watching every single PPV event chronologically. I am also watching Wrestling Bios ‘reliving the war’ series to keep me updated inbetween the events with the feuds, and to get excited about upcoming matches.
Before I review the matches, based on the past few episodes of raw and last PPVs I’ll let you know, going into the event, which match I’m most excited for and which feud I’m most excited to see.
The match I’m actually most excited to see is Triple H vs Owen hart. They put on a fantastic show at Wrestlemania and I think they’re only going to improve if the feud continues.
The feud is of course undertaker vs Kane. It’s just a legendary feud and whilst I have seen this match it was many many years ago so I have no idea of the drama surrounding it. Very much looking forward to seeing where the story is going as, aside from Vince and Austin this is the best feud going.

NOD make their way to the ring and every PPV the Rocky sucks chants seem to be getting louder and louder it’s so good to watch the rocks evolution. This is already a lost cause however for the rock with Steve mofuggin Blackman on the other team.
Blackman a d-lo start off decently well with Blackmans martial arts getting some good pops and gasps from the crowd. Farooq starts whipping D-lo brown with his belt and the ref doesn’t seem to care 😂 he’s just completely blind to it. All the action in the ring is completely drowned out continuously throughout the match as the crowd chants “Rocky sucks”. Honestly he’s the biggest heel of the company already the public have really responded well to his new character turn. The crowd loved seeing Farooq get the pin fall over the rock and to be fair to him, even with all the losses he’s had recently he’s still doing really well in the business because of his exciting, flashy and fast paced wrestling style and over the top ‘asshole’ character.
I thought this was a pretty good opener! You don’t see it very often, but I think most the wrestlers performed decently at least, with the rock being a standout as per usual. We didn’t see too much of shamrock this match which is surprising. The crowd wasnt too into it that much, but they still gave a few pops and they just wanted to chant Rocky sucks over anything. Not really any highlights or notable spots apart from a shakey looking dominator from Farooq.
Steve Austin cuts a promo next, in which he brings the timekeeper into the ring and tells him he’s gunna drag his carcass around the stadium if he doesn’t call it down the middle. Brilliant. He says dude love can beat him but if the timekeeper isn’t neutral then he’s gunna get his ass beat so bad he’ll never work again, and that’s the bottom line, cuz stone cold said so. You just gotta love it.
I thought triple H and Owen Hart had the best mid card match of Wrestlemania 14 so I’m really looking forward to this next one I think triple H is improving really quickly. But man oh man I really hope they drop this epilepsy intro they do soon. It’s good in the future with just the start having this kind of graphic but while the whole intro plays… MY EYES!! Also it’s worth noting even with triple H being the heel of this match Owen hart actually gets more of a negative reception as he makes his entrance. People just really enjoyed this DX faction and you can’t blame them they’re a breathe of fresh air and really mix things up in the WWF.
Chyna is told to get in a cage and literally be locked up at the start of the match to make sure she doesn’t interfere in the match and it’s so funny the lengths they have to go to to stop her getting involved, love it. As she’s locked in the cage and it’s padlocked Owen hart attacks triple H from behind up the ramp way before the match even starts.
As they make their way to the ring and the bell finally rings, Owen sends Hunter straight back to the outside and Chyna ‘ascends to the heavens’ as JR says. She actually goes pretty high up and it actually looks scary up there! I wouldn’t have trusted that cage, not with 90s health and safety anyway 😂.
Triple H tells Owen to suck it after a very clean signature flying knee which is looking so much better than it did even just a few months ago. Owen takes a HARD Bret hart corner bump as Chyna gets… a nail file out? I’m not sure how long she thinks this match will be going on for but she ain’t gunna file down metal bars by the time it’s over 💀. Triple H seems to be using a lot of rest holds this time around which really slows the match down at points but as soon as they get back to the wrestling they both look really fantastic, definitely top 5 performers in the business wrestling wise right now.
After a few more rest holds and random spouts of energy in the ring Chyna seems to have literally bended the bars open with her bare fists… WHAT!! Owen goes on the offensive which is way more entertaining than Hunter this match, sorry HHH 🤷‍♂️. Chyna is now on the outside of the cage and she’s hanging off of it, what on earth!! She’s so high up she’s got some balls I’ll tell you. The cage begins to lower as she manages to make her way to the ring after dropping down and sgt slaughter with two referees have to hold her back. The distraction allows Hunter to get a pedigree, but no it’s countered into a corner launch, and Owen hits a pedigree of his own but Chyna is distracting the ref! As Owen has the pin on X-pac breaks the cover and hits Owen with a fire extinguisher allowing triple H to get the win. The DX torment continues in the wwf!
I thought this match was not as good as their Wrestlemania performance however there were some good moments and I thought the ending was really good. Owen looked very clean tonight with all his bumps and moves looking really good. Triple H honestly looked a little tired tonight I’m not sure if he was still looking after HBK behind the scenes or not. A good match but not as good as their previous one. The Chyna cage gimmick made sense and it added some drama to the match which was fun, and needed in the first half before the match really took off in the second half. I don’t think the wwf realised at this point though that DX was treated like a baby face as they are clearly more popular with the crowd than Owen at this point.
Next we get introduced to some tag groups I could swear we’ve never seen before as cornette continues trying to bring back traditional wrestling to the wwf and I think it’s very out of place. If he had some good wrestlers on his side and he feuded his team against DX or someone else quite physical like funk and foley it would’ve been more interesting. I just have no feelings towards this upcoming match. Cornette is really trying to bring something to this match as he gets in the ring and challenges the ref to fight him, but even that doesn’t really do much. All I can say is at least the match was short, the wwf at least had the sense to realise the fans weren’t interested.
We now have… the evening gown match coming up. For me it’s Friday night I’ve got a couple of beers the other half isn’t here and I am settled in for something which I’m sure will be, to say the least, interesting. In all seriousness anything where I can see Luna getting a beat down I will be happy, her character is horrendous. And when they cut a promo oh god… I JUST HATE HER!! Now I’m not saying she’s a bad character or anything she’s just very hate-able. This matchup is so 90s 😂.
We see a fan in the audience holding a “SABLE FREE TONGUE BATH” with an arrow pointed at him as sable makes her way to the ring… Jesus 💀.
I mean there’s wasn’t going to be much wrestling was there but oh my god Lawler was SO funny on commentary during this match. It was definitely fun seeing Luna get beat tf up. Mero came down to the ring and distracted sable in order for Luna to win and my GOODNESS GRACIOUSNESS sable was quite the athlete! She had some great personalities that’s for sure. Sable and Luna go under the ring but sable returns with Lunas underwear! Meaning Luna is left naked under the ring. Sable continues to strut around the ring and there’s VERY nearly another wardrobe malfunction from last week. This was so 90s and from its time. I’m sure most of you dirty btards rewound that on your VHS many many times, THERES NO HIDING IT! The crowd did love it though, the pop for the ending was immense. Dirty dirty b*ards. I don’t really know how to rate the match in all honesty 😂.
Well that was something wasn’t it, all I can say is I’m most certainly awake and very ready for the next match.
Vince McMahon then speaks about him being native to Carolina to which he gets booed, and Austin is chanted throughout the building, brilliant. He continues to talk about how he’s not going to interfere with the main event and when talking about if stone cold loses he says “only if stone cold screws stone cold”, which I’m sure you realise is reminiscent of the Bret hart situation. Ohhh no no. He’s becoming the evil boss character slowly but surely.
We’ve got NOA and LOD 2000 next and LOD is STILL popular with the crowd even with all their losses and lackluster wrestling matches they’d had recently. They are legends in the ring though so respect to them. Sunny is still their manager which feels random and I’m not entirely sure why they did this.
I didn’t mind the tag match although wayyyy too much time was spent just focussing on damage to the animals’ knee, but it was good to see not that many submissions and rest holds. The pace of the matches is definitely picking up. Please be gone the days of chinlocks in the middle of the ring in a 6 man tag team match. The finish was controversial and got the crowd frustrated as they didn’t get what they wanted, and to be fair to them LOD 2000 put on a good show with the pop for hawk as he’s finally tagged in being noteworthy. It was decent but just a bit boring at times. Having a finish like that is fine to do every now and then though; a controversial finish from a referee decision can be good as long as it’s spaced out and not overused (looking at you WCW).
I feel like if this match and the opener was swapped around it would’ve had me enjoy it more as for a mid card moving into the semi main event it was too slow. Not really too much to say let’s move onto the penultimate match.
But wait… never mind there’s a sing along announced Tennessee Lee with Double J… to a round of grunts and boos from me and the crowd. And not only that it’s country music. Now there are some exceptions to good country music, Johnny cash is the prime example, and to be fair it wasn’t too bad, and a chill transition into the main and semi main event. BUT THEN OUT OF NOWHERE STEVE MOFUGGIN BLACKMAN APPEARS JUST ASSAULTING DOUBLE J LMFAO!! And then Tennessee Lee hits Blackman with a guitar loooool, for a second I forgot I was watching WWF. And then I thought about it and realised they probably did this so they could get the inferno match ready and setup around the ringside.
This is the first inferno match ever and from what I remember it was really good, but I was literally like 8 years old the last time I saw it so who knows. You can’t go too wrong with undertaker vs Kane in an inferno match though.
Starting off the match it does look very impressive and I’m sure at the time with nothing like this having ever happened before it was very exciting, especially with the two wrestlers being Kane and undertaker it makes perfect sense as a stipulation for their story. When any big moves are performed the fire goes a few feet higher in the air which looks really good. I can’t imagine it was too much fun for those in the front row though it must’ve been sweltering!
They seem to not really use the flames going a few feet into the air that much until halfway when someone just starts going crazy and every hit they do just causes the fire to go crazy. The punches the kicks, anything just caused the fire to go flying high above the ring ropes. This inferno does make a very aesthetically pleasing match to watch. JR and Lawler are really selling how hot the arena is during this match, makes it much more engaging, they’re doing a great job as usual. The match is a little slow with both men I suppose being a little nervous to fully perform with all the fire around them and who can blame them. The crowd pops as undertaker makes his comeback after a long assault from the undertaker and we get a really cool visual with undertaker and Kane both grabbing each others necks and the fire soaring above the ropes again.
Kane chokeslams undertaker but undertaker sits up, undertaker does a perfectly executed choke slam to Kane but Kane sits right back up as well only for a giant double boot to the face from both wrestlers. Kane is looking like the more intimidating opponent early on but as undertaker makes his comeback it evens out. Undertaker hits a top rope suplex on Kane only for Kane to get up before undertaker! Kane was so overpowered in the 90s. Kane gets tossed over the top rope and starts walking back to the lockeroom only for Vader to come out and attack him pushing him back towards the ring and Undertaker goes airborne over the fire and top ropes, and this looked really really cool, the crowd absolutely loses their minds as undertaker steals a steel chair off Paul bearer and assaults Kane with it.
While the match had a kinda slow beginning the second half really picked up and we got some very cool visuals and moves pulled off, undertaker was on his game tonight. Undertaker hits Paul bearer with a drum which looked really funny causing him to be busted open and he’s finally got a bit of revenge after Paul has been tormenting him for ages. Kane is then sent into the fire for his arm to be set alight and undertaker wins. I understand they couldn’t have Kane literally catch on fire on his whole body but the arm on fire was a little underwhelming and the crowd doesn’t pop as much as you’d expect. Undertaker does his iconic celebration and it looks f***ing awesome with the fire surrounding him and the illuminating glow of the flames on his face with the ethereal purple light in the ring. Awesome finish. It wasn’t an amazing match but it was a very cool gimmick that worked perfectly for the feud Kane and undertaker were having. Considering all you have to work with are just the pure moves of each wrestlers; no pinfalls or submissions, they did really well it’s an impressive match they pulled off for 1998. They delivered what they promised and it was pure attitude era entertainment.
I really want to see Vince involved somehow during this match. The hype is mostly around Vince’s attitude towards Austin being the champion and the feud building towards them. Dude love is just there to provide a wrestling match for Austin as Vince himself couldn’t really provide a proper match, especially not for a main event, BUT he should be involved in this in some way. Its so f***ing good hearing the gigantic pop for stone cold in full effect now every time he makes his way to the ring, the awesome visual of every single person in the stadium standing on their feet in ovation for the rattlesnake is just iconic. He really is at the top of the business now. I also think foley is a great match for him right now as I’m assuming he’s still recovering his neck and foley is fantastic to have a brawl style match against.
They start off fast paced and foley is demolished in the ring so he runs to the back but Austin sprints after him, almost taking his head off his neck with a massive clothesline. Austin tosses mick off the stage where the musicians were performing and he takes a REALLY tough looking bump on the concrete, my god that looked like it hurt. The crowd are really into this match, everything Austin hits gets a huge pop from the arena.
The two are having a great match and eventually foley gets control and puts Austin in a rest hold but McMahon makes his way to the ring and sits down ringside to watch the match. There’s a shot of him looking at the timekeeper, and you can’t help but really get into the drama of the match now and wonder what’s gunna happen. Austin assaults foley on the outside against the ring post whilst shit talking and looking over at McMahon. Foley eventually counters a power bomb to send Austin over his head onto the concrete and Vince smiles. This is really good stuff from the wwf.
Vince comes over and stars talking shit to Austin as he’s recovering on the outside of the ring but Austin gets up and the crowd loses it as Austin chases Vince up the ramp, only for foley to hit Austin from behind and bring him back to the ring. As Austin and foley exchange submission counters Vince is telling the timekeeper to ring the bell and not to ring the bell but the timekeeper missed it. God I can’t wait to see more of this feud it’s so f***ing good.
Austin counters a suplex to send foley back first into the corner of the steel steps and OHHH my god I bet that hurt. Austin goes mental with right hands and left hands on the outside as foley literally falls over the barricade trying to escape, and JR is killing it on the commentary there’s no one like him. Austin counters a sweet chin music, flips foley off and sends him into the referee. After more back and forth for a while with McMahon trying to interfere and help foley as much as possible eventually stone cold hits McMahon with a massive chair shot to a huge pop to the crowd, stunner to foley, he counts himself as the ref is still down, he’s still champion, everyone is down and it’s like a car wreck and what a main event, that was brilliant. Its then announced stone cold has lost due to a DQ after hitting a wwf official, but I believe he still retains the title.
I just love love love what they decided to do with Austin and McMahon, and I’m guessing this angle was taken because Austin couldn’t perform like he used to due to his neck but it worked out better than any feud could of, everything about it is so entertaining you can’t help but get hyped.
Overall the event was decent. It’s really building on the attitude era style matches and feuds are really getting going but they’re still suffering from a lack of roster star power. Their main events are fantastic but their mid card most of the time just doesn’t have those wrestlers that can really perform and keep the mid card entertaining. Whilst Owen hart and triple H had a good match, and singles aren’t too bad tag teams are STILL bad in the wwf. I’m hoping edge & Christian, the hardy boys and Dudley boyz come into the wwf soon and they’ll have a fantastic all around roster. Good opener, okay mid card, great main events. Definite improvement and I hope they continue to experiment with different matches and drama between people going forward.

I simply forgot to post yesterday but certainly remembering now. Its day 25 and about 15 minutes ago I was being ripped by some legendary tier urges. This has happened to me three times total on my journey. It is damn scary; the urges feel like they almost take over my body and my heart is jumping out of my chest. Was able to take a couple moments to breathe and let the thoughts of addict math flow in my head and not entertain it. Gonna have to occupy myself for a little bit for sure. Was being idle all morning while home alone and have been very stressed lately and that is ripe breeding ground for the explosion of what I call "monster urges".
These monster urges, as I previously stated, are quite remarkably intimidating. Your chest feels as it is about to explode, and your brain crams you with addict math like Sauron whispering to you to yank the ring from your friend. And all of your storyline of your recovery and all of your motivations and pride in your progress gets absolutely negated by this guttural feeling of a deep craving. And these monster urges will literally come up from the ether out of nowhere, even if you feel that you are on the straight and narrow these urges will just erupt. Right now I am just biting a rag here in my kitchen and typing away at this. my previous "escape spot" that I would go to in the occasion of the other monster urges is not currently available. So I just have to completely steel my nerves and use willpower alone. And my OCD demon has just paired up with the urges to work as a team and drag me back down.
When you have neighbors like this in your own mind, who needs enemies. But if adversaries like this exist in my own consciousness, also what enemy can ever defeat me. I am going to beat this. I WON'T die here. If I can beat this addiction, there is nothing in this life that I can't do. And you can take that to the bank.

I dislike any horror movies because of the loud screams and the jump scenes. I get sweaty and feel I know something is coming. Movies like Killer Klowns from Outer Space, Freddy Krueger movies, Jason movies, Ring movies, Grudge movies, Insidious movies, Annabelle movies, Nun movie, Conjuring movies, and other horror movies.
I also dislike Tales from the Crypt. That narrator puppet freaks me out. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark book scares me as a kid. Goosebumps not so much because it was childish horror.
I end up cursing a storm whenever a jump scene happens.
