2024.05.17 08:35 Fine_Raise_8951 Used and Abused - The Reunion - Chapter 3

Beth:
William was exhausted from the long drive, so he went right to sleep, leaving me alone and horny. I went down to our little office and browsed the web. Quickly I found the now free video clip, titled, “Goofy gets Gelded.”
It was the video that William and Monica made of Charlie being castrated. I popped my legs up on the desk and began pleasing myself as I watched. I guess it was a bit surreal, here was Charlie just a few hundred feet away as I viewed his life changing moment caught on camera.
From a very overweight Monica riding Charlie’s face with her hairy vagina, to the moment she climbed off of the table, took hold of his balls so William could begin performing the unthinkable.
Poor Charlie, he was strapped down as William gently and with the precision of an experienced surgeon took a small scalpel, and cut away, ignoring Charlie’s screams and of course blood. I orgasmed, it was gross, it was cruel, it was unnecessary but as Paris Hilton liked to say, “it was hot!”
I can’t say I was still turned on watching William and Monica fuck shortly after Charlie was stitched up. However, I will say, when William made Charlie, worship his bare feet, that I found satisfying.
Still wide awake, I decided to pay Charlie a visit in the barn. Inside the filthy stall, there he was sound asleep, covered in an old horse blanket. I was hoping he’d be awake so we could talk, but he wasn’t, so instead I pulled up a chair and watched him.
What a piece of useless shit. To allow everything that’s happened in his life to happen. Hell, coming here with us, the woman who dragged him down to nothing and her lover, the man who mutilated him for life. What a complete loser. I knew then, life here for him would have to be unpleasant. He needed it and I wanted it.
I left Charlie alone and returned to my computer. I looked up Monica on Facebook. She was easy enough to find despite changing her name. She was also half her old size and very pretty. Her husband was attractive too. They seemed to travel quite a bit and she loved sexy clothes.
“Still a whore!” I said out loud to myself.
I replayed the video and had another orgasm but this time I focused just on William. He was masked so I studied his blue eyes as he focused on the job. I imagined a beautiful but wicked smile as he cut, as he destroyed another man. Soon after, I tucked myself in next to my beautiful man, and fell happily asleep.
Charlie:
I awoke, cold and tired, nothing new but I was safe for the moment, alone in a barn. It was still dark as I slowly stood and started to stretch, my morning ritual. I noticed a chair outside the stall, I knew it hadn’t been there when I fell asleep. Had someone been there? Was it Beth?
I watched the sun rise, it was a new day and hopefully a new beginning. I wasn’t sure what it would bring and of course I was frightened, I always was, but I was with Beth again. That’s all that mattered. That’s all that ever mattered. I stroked myself until hard, of course I could not cum but still I thought of my darling woman. She had come to rescue me. I was grateful.
This was her farm, her property and I too hoped I was also. To be owned again by Beth, to me that was heaven. Even if it meant having to put up with that evil, demented William. I could handle him. I knew I had no choice.

2024.05.12 19:42 Fine_Raise_8951 Used and Abused - The Reunion - Chapter 1

Readers asked for more. So away we go!!!
Beth:
So much has changed for me over the last 5 years.
Antonio closed the restaurants and took a job in Las Vegas, running a club. I had found peace and tranquilly living upstate on a beautiful farm with a charming house and barn to match. A much smaller version of the property Tex had in Virginia, but it reminded me of those days and it made me happy. The thought of leaving such a place to start over did not excite me.
As a result, Antonio and I decided to divorce amicably and believe it or not, I gave him full custody of our daughter. She was a daddy’s little girl and they were so close. It was the best thing for all of us. Being single again and being on my own felt good.
In a small world type of thing, I was shopping at the local supermarket when I ran into William, he was Julia “Lady” Stern’s ex husband. She was doing life for Tex’s murder and the two had divorced after she went away. We got some coffee and talked.
“Isn’t she horrified that you left when maybe she needed to know you were still there for her?” I asked.
He explained that Julia was quite popular in prison and had girlfriend’s all over the cell block.
“She left me!” He said laughing.
He went on to say, like me, he decided to leave city living for the country life. We both laughed. What were the odds of us landing just a few miles from each other?
As we spoke, I couldn’t help but notice how handsome he was. William was a German through in through. Blonde hair, blue eyes, very rugged. Muscular, very funny with a dry sense of humor. We decided to see more of each other.
We dined a few times before I finally invited him home. We had some delightful sex, it was so wonderful. I had missed it greatly since my divorce but with William, I realized, it was worth the wait.
In bed, I finally asked the question that I was afraid to bring up.
“Didn’t you and that fat whore Monica date? And didn’t you guys really hurt Charlie in a video?”
Of course, I was talking about Charlie, my ex slave and weirdly enough, ex husband. A freak of a guy. William explained everything.
“Monica and I were friends but I never dated her! We also had a film company doing the hardcore Femdom thing before the business imploded. Yes, we did castrate him, we cut his nuts clean off. At the time, the three of us needed the money and a scene like that was really profitable.
I admitted I saw the clip. It was all over the internet. It was gruesome but erotic too. Monica the whore stroked Charlie to a lather, he then shot his last load I guess and then William did the cutting. It ended with the whore smiling ear to ear, holding up Charlie’s severed balls.
“Was Charlie ok with it? Did he sign off on such a thing?” I asked not sure what to believe.
“He did wherever Monica told him to do. He was very loyal to her.”
“So, what became of Monica and I guess Charlie too?” I asked.
“Monica made so much money from that clip, she got weight loss surgery and found happiness. She’s married now to a nice guy, a plumber. She’s in a good place and she looks fantastic.”
I was happy for her.
“And Charlie?” I asked
“Well, after your restaurants were closed, he lost his job so Monica threw him out, I think he became homeless.”
I teared up a little upon hearing that.
“Didn’t he have some money from the thingy?” I asked making a scissor motion with my fingers.
“Nah, he gave it all to Monica. Again, a loyal little sissy.”
“Did he fully recover?” I asked still too embarrassed to say the word, “castration.”
“I’m not sure. I mean, I knew what I was doing from my years growing up on a farm in Germany but those were animals, not humans. Still, we took good care of him.”
William kissed my tears. He could see I was feeling bad for Charlie.
“I’m sorry I did that to him but at the time, I needed money to help keep Julia off death row. It was money well spent. I mean when you think about it, she saved Charlie from being shot so I guess you could say this was his way of returning the favor.”
Charlie:
The streets were mean, they were lonesome and I had nothing. I was a ballless sack of dirt reduced to begging and pleading for money and food. A weakling of a man, if I could still be called that, my castration had turned my body into an extremely fat, doughy mess. I was a total loser and other homeless people were always robbing me.
I would think about Beth and Antonio on those lonely freezing nights. I pictured them under their warm covers, naked, in love. I imagined her sucking on her husband’s penis and fondling his balls. Despite my castration, I still got hard but that was it. I still desired sex, but I could not climax, I could not satisfy my desires. My life was hell.
Beth:
William taught me all about the opera. Together, we traveled to the city every few months to enjoy it.
It was an unusual chain of events that led to what William called, “The Reunion.” We were walking up 8th Ave when I noticed a fat, dirty, homeless man begging for change, so quickly I looked the other way, and holding William’s hand tightly, we kept walking. I felt the creep’s eyes were upon me so I didn’t look back.
After the performance, we made our way out of Lincoln Center when again I saw the fat bum. This time he spoke.
“Beth.”
I turned, it was shocking. It was Charlie! He was indeed homeless and rather disgusting to look at. The smell was even worse.
“It must have been quite a site. A beautiful well dressed couple being confronted by a street freak. A cop quickly noticed and before I could say a word, he shooed Charlie away.
“Get lost!” Was all he said.
The cop tipped his cap and smiled. I smiled back.
Charlie:
Beth looked beautiful. To my horror, she was with William, the German who cut me. Seeing his face brought back the horrific memory of that awful day. His evil smile, the smell of booze on his breath. His laugh as I screamed before everything went dark. Then waking up and being forced to suck on his feet as Monica rode his dick. My castration turning those two psychopaths on.
To think Beth and William were friends or maybe more? What about Antonio? I was so confused.
I watched them walk away. Not once did Beth look back.
Beth:
We were staying at a midtown hotel, it was quite nice and cozy, especially on such a cold and snowy night. We quickly had sex, the opera always moved me so, I enjoyed making love soon after!
Of course, as we fucked, my mind turned to Charlie. He was a disgusting bum. He looked gross. I really hoped never would I have to see him again. Then the guilt set in.
“William, he needs our help. I can’t just turn my back on the guy. He needs money, he needs something. Food?”
William had a suggestion.
“You can bring him to the farm. He’s experienced dealing with animals and horses. He did that for you and Tex? Right?”
He did. Tex used him as a slave hand and Charlie was a real pro. I kissed William gently.
“Let’s go save his life!”
William kissed me back.
“First, I need your mouth here.” He said pointing at his monster cock.
I did not disappoint.

2024.05.12 00:39 Junepero Stories of panem 113 rest of pregames and games

The pair from nine were instantly laughed at by the carrers and the pairs from 4 and 7 causing Keith and particularly Winnow to embarrassingly walk further on. Keith embarked upon the chariot first before Winnow find Mayfair and Julia both from 12 chatting away with there mentor Harley Davidson victor of the 107th hunger games. WInnow soon befriended julia with the 2 bonding over there ridiculous outfits. Mayfair in particular found there conversation quite amusing before joining in. Harley seemed a little annoyed at his tributes lack of attention to what he was trying to tell his tributes but soon smiled before giving a knowing nod to junnius. However Keith remained rooted to the carriage apparently having his “Tough guy persona” wiped from his face as Silca put it. Junnius smirked before asking Keith if he “wanted to listen now?”
As Keith nodded Winnow soon returned as Frida did some final touch ups with the pair’s outfits. Pluto and Ariana were approached by London and Wyoming both from 6 marveling at the pairs outfits. Wyoming even gigled to herself before London complemented Pluto’s and Ariana’s outfits. He smiled before signing ‘thanks”
The boys soon signed to each other about there lives in there own districts London then asked the pair if they would be interested in a potential alliance, After Pluto looked back at Regina she nodded as Ariana and PLuto accepted this. London smiled before returning his loopy district partner back to there own horse carriage as Pluto and Ariana hopped back on there own carriage as the parade then begun.
After the usual fanfare for the carrers and the total contrast of outfits for the pair from 4 viewres seemed entranced with the pair from 5s garud themed outfits with Nico Anderson commentated that “A for effort at the title.” Pluto regaly waved to many audience members as they signed his name. Ariana looked at him before grinning signing “Sorry for the attuide I didnt mean the way I acted.’ Pluto smiled and nodded before taking her hand as they waved to the audience. Further down the parade line up the pairwere very embarrassed at there outfits with there faces of disgust being posted over future “captiol memes” on Golden 24. Still they did there best efforts in making a second impression as few captial citzens through roses and chocolates at the pair out of pure pity. As the parade came to an end president mcaine did his usual speech about the importance of panem before welcoming nico Anderson to the stage. He congratulated the stylists on a good job before crowning district 2 the title of Anderson fashions best dressed with there stunning stonemason inspired outfits.
The next day without to much fanfare from the night prior all mentors and brought there tributes to the training hall at percisly 10 am per usual. Head master Price gave his usual stern greeting before ‘reminding the tributes” about the consequences of tongfouleraly by turning on his taser as the training staff followed before dismissing the tributes to there own stations.
As per there argeement Ariana Pluto Wyoming and London practiced together mainly staying at the camouflage station for most of the first and second day until being ordered to practice at a different station. However when Ariana refused to a training staff member tasered her in the back before being removed from training for a day. Pluto turned to London before signing “She’s gonna get us killed before we even get into the arena.” London laughed before taking him to the toxilogical station as Wyoming somehow remained hidden in the camfolouage station until the end of the second day. When Apollo was shooing the tributes to the accesors room Wyoming jumped out at him causing Apollo to shreik before peacekeepers soon escorted Wyoming to the asscors room alone as most of the other tributes lauhjed.
As for Keith and Winnow Keith mainly practiced with Sailor from 4 at the trident station. However training staff had to break up a fight after Sailor after he angrily accused Keith of purposley distracting him after he coughed rather loudly after sailor missed his trident has it nearly projectiled back at him. Meanwhile Winow mainly stayed with Mayfair and Julia at the medic station watching Mayfair and Julia explain the basics of sowing a wound and cpr. At the end of the 2 days a rather angry training master price then escorted price to the training hall.
After the strong displays of the carrers and the mediocre displays of the outliers Pluto was welcomed in. As he was permitted an interpreter he signed that ‘he'd show his camouflage skills.” The game makers soon groaned before he also signed he’d “Like the lights off”. Curious sounds of intreigue went through out teh accors box as game maker monty allowed this as the assors room went dark. As his interpreter moved close to him as he begun his “camfoluage experties”. After 5 minutes the lights were turned on many of the assorcs were quiet suprised where the only spots that were seen was his white eyes. He then waved as the assecors appluaded. Ariana was welcomed in next unforeanutly for her knife display went poor as the game makers soon dismissed her,
Later on the line up Keith performed a rather decent sword display with poor accuracy. Winnow on the other hand bored the asscors with the typical toxical quiz.
As evening soon falled in the results were displayed on capital tv. WIth the usual good scores of the carrers Keith scored a 8 Pluto scored a 7 . London a 6 and Slip from 8 also scoring a 6 Winnow and Wyoming from 6 both scoring a 4 and at the bottom of the pack Ariana and Ignatia from 3 scoring a 3.
Regina was somewhat pleased with Pluto score but saractsicaly reminded Ariana that “Better scores more sponsors.” Ariana snarled back saying “Bite me im going to be dead in a few days anyway.” Regina grumbled to herself beofre Francis approached the pair with there uniforms for the interviews.
As Junnius he was pleased with both of his tributes scores awarding them with some captial cake before Frida quickly made her tributes interview outfits for her tributes as Junnius soon quizzed the 2 on “Propper interview edicate.”
Silca MOnty welcomed the excited capital audience regally waving and modeling her tropical dress consisting of real palm tree leaves and the top consisting of a light beige and to top it off Silca hair was dyed a light green making her a real life palm tree. After some comedic banterring session with the front audience members she welcomed in the carrers. After there successful interviews and the rather boring interviews from the pairs from3 and 4 Ariana was welcomed in. She walked dimly into the studious fashiong a silver gown with newly dyed silver hair. Even though this was Silca’s one of few years commentating she had to put on a strong face as she was unable to get any word to her as she was shouting obscenities at the capital and Silca in particular nearly tackled Ariana to the ground after she was shouting obscenities about the Monty family. After peace keepers escorted Ariana out Pluto was welcomed to the stage.
He was adorned in a silver suit with a light brown bountier and his reddish brown hair with her hair also dyed a crisp white. He was also allowed an interpreter she was adorned in a similar dress to Silca to commenterate the games. Pluto’s interview went rather dully at first but he soon “came out his shell’ before signing about how his district partner acted like a “Rotten brat’’ and how he’d “want to get the short holiday” done and over with as soon as possible. The audience was in a mix between jeers and cheers as Silca was pleased with the rather quick interview she then shooed the boy off the stage before continuing on. After the interview of Slip from 8 Winnow was welcomed to the stage. Winnow was adorned with a beige gown with corn themed embleshents littering her hair which had been put up into a bun.
Winnow gracefully chatted with Silca about every topic besides the games a fact that “Greatly surprised” many members of the audience. Even Silca tried her best to get a word in about the games Winnow would only talk louder completely erasing her graceful entrance. Soon the interview host shooed the girl of the stage before Keith was also welcomed in sporting the same scowl as Ariana had shown. He mainly insulted Silca through out his interview leading she and the audience to jeer Keith of the stage. After the easy interviews of the pairs from 10 11 12 and the and the popular interviews from the pair from 14 she happily welcomed her husband to the stage. As rapid cheers followed he kissed his wife before she rather “Akwardly” asked her husband for a hint on the arena. Game maker monty sniggered before surprisingly offering a small hint up. ‘An old game character from the time before spent most of his time on this beach trying to save a damsel in distress.’
Curious sounds of intrigue and shouts of “OOOOOOO” sounded as both husband and wife bowed as the audience cheered on. Back at the apartments both mentors seemed rather furious with there tributes Regina in particular became defeated after stopping an argument Ariana started with pluto.
The next day the tributes were given a breif breakfest before being flown to this years arena. This years arena’s outfits featured a light yellow tank top with a short sleeved over coat and shorts. Regina ultmaitley did not want to vist both of her tributes however Francis opted to vist Ariana which made Regina smile. Beofre Pluto got into his tube Regina smiled before signing “Stay out of trouble”. Pluto laughed before nodding as the pair had shock her hand Regina soon stooped him before saying “Love is the worse enemy of them all.” Pluto had become rather confused before he soon walked into his tube. As for Ariana she made on final attempt to escaping the games but Francis imedtlay swooped in and particularly yanked Ariana in her tube before he ordered peacekeepers to garud her tubes as ariana angrily bashed against her tube.
Unforeanutly for the pair from 9 Junnius did not vist them as Keith and Winnow nodded at each other the pair got dressed in there uniforms before being rose into the humid beachy arena.
This years games took place in Delfino Plaza
To many in the excited members in snow square this years arena was a reference to a very popular game from the time before known as “Super Mario Sunshine”. The corncopuia was below the shine sprite tower featuring mini knives swords and blow guns,. With a handful of foods in the heart of the corncopuia however tributes did not know this but these food items were highly vemnous. Outside the cornocpuia small boats were known to slowly go out to the islands that were connected to the arena. The first island featured a large mansion that featured many non venomous foods however every hour a large electric manta ray would regularly swim through the arena which would cause a near fatal electric shock if a tribute were to touch it. On the second island featured a bustling amusement park with rides that would cause a “Quick death” or “Nausea’ if these rides werent handled with care, Many yellow snapping turtles with green shells were also notted to freguent teh arena which these shells were called as “Koppas’ by SIlca.
Back in the main island featured many palm trees and buildings that also had many market places with more poisonous foods. Finally on top of the arena featured a large volcano that would reagulry pour only small amount of lava and “Unwanted Pests”. Such as many long raccoons with sharp teeth and walking bombs
Day 1
As the tributes rose into this years arena winnow imedtlay flagged down Julia from 12. She smiled dimmly pointed at the pair from 2 Marcus and Hera flagging the pair from 1 and surprisingly the pair from 4 as well. Keith was also flagged down by Mayfair from 12. Apparently realizing that the pairs district partners were friends Keith smirked before pointing at Slip from 8 walling loudly. However with the pair from 5 they were put next to each other as Ariana scowled as Pluto became relived seeing London and Wyoming from 6 giving them a careful nod, And as the gong trialed down to the final 10 seconds ariana begun shouting more verbal taunts resulting in many of the audience members to shout “Shut up”.
As the gong sounded the games finally begun. Surprisingly all 24 tributes barrled into the corncopuia building. Ariana darted in first with Wyoming soon following as London signed at Pluto to run in. He did this before pushing aside Slip from 8 as he was stabbed by Brock from 3 in the heart. Pluto soon grabbed a sword before being crashed into by the boy from 1 holding a dager to his throat. London shoutted out before unforenautly becoming the girl from ones target the 2 fighting very vicosuly . Thankfully for Pluto the boy from 1 was soon bashed into the wall by Arogrio from 11. He then got up before running away with Wyoming soon following him rapidly shouting “Come back there still in the hell bath.” Wyoming soon dashed after before being hit with a sword in the back by Hera from 2. Ariana soon grinned at seeing many of the knives before pocketing nearly every one of them resulting in Silca calling her “Selfish.” London gave a grim stare at Wyoming before grabbing Ariana’s hand running toward PLuto but in a diffrent direction nearly being hit with a knife by the furious girl from 1 who had been unable to save her district partner from Agorio. Keith then was the 14th tribute to dash in alongside Mayfair unforeanutly as the remaing tributes started to scatter Both Sailor and AnaMaria from 4 soon through there knives simtaneisouly into there backs as Julia and Winnow grimly looked on. However to avoid being the carrers next targets they only grabbed 2 knives before running away to the near by gondola as it brought them to island 2.
As the blood bath soon dyed out the 5 blood bath cannons sounded signfing the deaths of the boy from 1 Wyoming from 6 Slip from 8 Keith from 9 and Mayfair from 12. Pluto frantically ran into a near by market grabbing many fruits before running further away to the near by buildings climbing to the top of one curling up into a ball and looking concerningly out. However as Ariana and London soon came toward the building they soon yelped seeing PLuto standing toward the edge griping on for dear life. With a heavy effort London soon gripped onto Pluto’s body however as London successfully yanked Pluto down the 3 sat down in a disorganized heep. Ariana soon laughed before signing Pluto should “Not be such a wimp.”
Pluto snarrled back before tossing some fruit to Ariana. As she walked over and looked like she was about to eat some of it many viewers in snow square laughed hysterically with Silca recounting “She must be dnese.”
Before Ariana was about to eat the mango fruit a knife came whistling into Ariana’s shoulder. She winced as she saw Gerogio and Frida both from 10 hurling many near by koopas at the pair. However this idea soon back fired as the koopa Gerogio was holding chomped his hand he ket out a large yelp as Pluto soon barrled into Ariana removing the knife from her shoukder and throwing it into Frida’s heart, Her cannon soon sounded follwoing by his district partner. Ariana soon shouted “are you crazy!”. Pluto rolled his eyes before smiling as London fist bumped him.
The 3 of them soon surveyed the area nearly being found by the carrers however as London had grew hungry he grabbed a near by pineapple fruit. Beofre slicing it cleanly open. He soon was about to drink the liquids of this pinapple however Pluto angrily slapped London in the face. However as London soon was about to sign why he had just slapped him he brought a rather angry Ariana before dumping the liquid on her hand. As Ariana;s hand soon sweled PLuto signed “Put it in water youll be fine”. Ariana scowled as London laughed before signing back “Thanks.”
Pluto smiled before grinning as 2 sponsor gifts then flew down. Pluto smiled before opening his gift a blow gun with a hand ful of darts with a note attached saying “Keep that brat at an arms length” from R. He smiled dimmly before his eyes turned to a shade of suprise seeing Londons sponsor gift some morphine and an assorment of foods.
Pluto turned to London signing “You do this stuff?”
London nodded dully before saying “I have and still kinda do.”
Pluto dully looked forward before London asked “Something wrong.”
The boys did not say much for the next 10 minutes before Pluto signed “I knew someone who did those in the past.” Londons face whitened before pouring most of the context out as he smiled and nodded “ Pluto smiled however Viewers could see London’s face turned a grim shade of grey as he poured the remaining liquid into a near capsule before muttering to hismelf. Pluto soon tapped him on the shoulderi as the boys giggled seeing Ariana angrily fighting with some of the none violet koopas.
The boys soon helped Arianaout before cleaning her wound on her shoulder. Ariana gruffly walked in the other direction sleeping behind a near by palm tree. As Evening fell on the arena the boys soon rejoined there sleeping ally. With Pluto keeping watch for the night. As for Winnow and Julia they succesfuly ran aout the corncopuia fray hoping on the gondola. As the island arrived at the island they heard a sharp scream as Brock and Ignatia both from 3 went screaming in the opposite direction. As both of the girls looked on in horror as teh pair from 2 went running after them with knives at the ready. As Julia encouraged Winnow to hurry up before both girls screamed as the pair from 4 wet chassing after them.
Winnow soon hoped up toward the ferris wheel ride which had suprsingly been going slow. As she successfully boarded one of them Winnow soon shouted for Julia to hurry up. Foretanutly for the girl from 12 she successfully grabbed on to Winnows hand as the girls soon panted in exhaustion both the pair from 4 soon swore as the pair 2 and the girl from 1 angrily yelled at the pair for letting the outliars get away. However as Sailor shoutted at Marcus in particular for chassing down “The geeky brats” Marcus sighed before snapping Salior’s neck. As his cannon sounded Ana maria shoutted out in horror before she to had her neck snapped cleanly by the girl from 1. As 2 cannons sounded Winnow and Julia clinged on to each other for dear life as the carrers continued to search for them.
As the carrers soon gave up some viewers in snow square cheered as a sponsor gift soon flew in for the pair. Winnow and Julia smiled at the small feast that they were provided as they ate and talked about there own home lives with Winnow in particular being quiet surprised hearing about the recent changes that have happened in districts 12 that theyre mentor Harley Davidson had implemented.
As the girls fell asleep on the feris wheel horn of plently played featuring the 9 fallen tributes leaving 17 remaing.
Day 2
As the early morning sunrise entered the arena game maker monty made a live announcement to the arena. He congratulated the 17 remaining tributes on making it too the second day of the games before announcing that the tributes had 5 minutes to arrive at island 1 or 2 before the volcano woulf eurpt killing anyone in its way. As game maker monty signed off the remaining tributes stampeded to the near by gongdelas. Monica from 8 had been the first casuality to the event as the pair from3 enegerneered the walking bombs as Monica picked one up it exploded leaving nothing left.
Ariana Pluto and London soon darted out of there hiding spot as they imedtlay hopped on the gondola to island 1. However as the 3 painted in exhaustion Ashley and the boy from 7 hoped out at the pair with knives at the ready. Ariana soon shoved Pluto out of the way as she through her kife as it landed in the boy from 7s heart. As his cannon sounded Ashley caught London unspectedly off garud as she then threw her kinfe toward London’s head. Luckily fr London the knife only hit him in the lower adomen. Ariana soon charged into Ashley the 2 girls soon begun a viscous fist fight however as the volcano soon euerpted Ariana then got the upper hand pushing Ashley out of the gondola. As her cannon sounded Pluto imedtlay ran over to Lodon before taking out the knife from his adomen,
As London screamed out Pluto signed to him to “SHH”. However as another cannon sounded the three hid behind one of the walls for the time being. Silca explained to the captial audience that this was Daisy from 11 after she had a run in with the pair from 14 as they chased Daisy up into the volcano area as Hanah soon pushed the girl into the lava. As for the aliance of Winnow and Julia both girls stayed hidden on the ferris wheel as the reaming 3 carrers stayed below watching the ferris wheel intently.
As a suspenseful quiet soon crossed the arena and in snow square Julia gently climbed to the top of the box. As she quietly hoped out Winnow noticed before saying “The death pits down there and were 25ft in the air.”
Julia smiled before saying to “trust her”.
Winnow sighed before grabbing Julia’s hand. However unforeanytly for the girls the ferris wheel creaked rather loudly waking Hera. As she rubbed her eyes in a tired heep she alerted her other carrer allys as they begun hurling many of there weapons at the pair.
Winnow then looked back at Julia before pointing at Arogio from 11 who had about to attack Marcus. The girl from 1 soon noticed Arogio and shoutted in a rather horse tone that “he’d pay for killing her district partner.”

Arogio laughed and taunted the girl to try as the carrers soon changed there target to the boy from 11 allowing bith girls to make a mad dash to gongdela 1 with out the carrers noticing. Silca later recounted that “This year may be the werdist year in history.”
As Arogio’s cannon sounded the 2 outliar girls soon jumped off the ferris wheel only having a scraped knee between the both of them. After a short gomgdela ride they had arrived at the island. Due to it being noon and the captial being pleased with the amount of bloodshed teh tributes were allowed to have a rest “For now.”
Julia in particular was rather exhausted for the mormings events so the girls rested in the mansions first floor. The girls kept each other from boredoom by playing a popular childrens game called “Eye spy.” With most of there objects they wanted the other to look for being rather impoosible to find leaving both the girls laughing. However this laughter turned to horror as the manta ray soon mad her hourly appearnce as one cannon sounded.
After the run in the aliance of Ariana Pluto and London with the pair from 7 they imedtlay ran into the mansion and hid hwoever they triggered the next arena event.
As teh 3 went screaming they fell down into a casino room. However the three of them did not what was happening a ghostly voice soon eerily said. “Score 7777 and you’ll be free failure to do so one of you will be dead.”
As many casino machines popped up. PLuto imedtlay grabbed onto his blow gun and darts as London weakly rested on the ground as Ariana went to the near by cassino machine. As London begun to bleed out more Pluto screamed before trying to apply pressure on his friends wound however as London weakly grabbed onto Pluto before screamingas Ariana stabbed London in throat. Pluto screamed out before grabbing his blow gun and huffing 2 darts out. She soon signed and shouted that London would of been “Dead anyway.”
However Pluto then huffed into his blow gun as a dart when whistling into Ariana’s arm. She sighed before getting the 7777 number on the near by machine. As the ghost like figure nodded Ariana grinned before rather vindectively signing “You’’ll be London soon”. As the pair from 5 begun battling many citzens in the captial were shoutting at Pluto to win this “Fight” but unfroeanutly for him Ariana manged to steal the blow gun before pointing it over Pluto’s neck.
As Ariana held the blow gun to Pluto's neck, the tension in the room escalated. The citizens in the Capitol watched intently, their excitement palpable. Pluto's eyes darted around, searching for any possible escape route, but he found himself cornered with nowhere to go.
Suddenly, a loud alarm blared through the casino room, signaling the end of the event. The ghostly voice echoed once again, announcing that time was up and the game was over. Ariana hesitated for a moment, torn between her desire to eliminate Pluto and getting hell out of the casino.
Ariana then sighed in angry huff before helping PLuto up signing “Stop for now.”
However Pluto did not listen and continued teh fight as he held his knife to Ariana’s throat. Hwoever Ariana got the upper hand again as she then huffed into blow gun behind her as an dart flew into Plutos nose. He screamed out in pain before Ariana then blew another dart as it landed in Pluto’s heart.
His cannon sounded as many jeers sounded in snow square with Silca rolling her eyes saying “the girl will never change.”
The ghost soon pushered her back into the manison as Ariana returned to the dock of the island resting in a tired heep.
She then noticed Julia and Winnow making there way back to the main island. Another cannon sounded un the late evening signfing the death of Victente from 14 after he was betrayed by his own ally Hannah.
Julia kept watch as Winnow slept with Horn of plenty playing at midnight featuring the fallen tributes. Pluto from 5 London from 6 the pair from 7 monica from 8 the pair from 11 and Vicente from 14 leaving 8 tributes remaing.
Day 3
Ariana and Winnow awoke rather early making them the first 2 tributes to awake. Ariana in particular spent most of her time traversing the mansion becoming bored as she then tried to re enter the gambling room but she soon given blast area as she tried to open the shut door. She stood around in huff before quietly before rather suprisngly falling bacj to sleep in plain sight. As for the girls Julia smirked as Winnow had appeard to be talking in her sleep.
As she gently placed her hand through WInnow hair she woke up. Julia appokigezed before Winnow saying to “not worry.” As Julia’s face turned bright red Winnow laugehd As a some sponor gifts flew down for the pair they soon fell onto each other in amusment as 3 cannons osunded. This was proven to be the pair from 3. They were ambushed by teh carrers with Ignatia being able to throw a near by raccon at the girl from1 however. As the girls cannon sound the pair from 3 were then taken down by the pair from 2.
The girls soon opted to not move from there location as they rested in each others arms for the remainder of the day, Ariana on the other hand awoke from round 2 of her slumber before notcing one of the near by Koppas wandering near by. She then killed it as she then found a near bomb. After succesfuly diffused it she heard another cannon sound.
This was Marcus from 2 after Hera from 2 betrayed him on the second island while they were running as one of the near by rides when whistling into pair. Hera got to higher ground as she then pushed Marcus off the ride they were on resulting in a rather painful death for the boy from 2.
As Ariana returned to the corncopuia silca sighed in sacrastic manner saying she’d did not want to know what was going through the girls mind.
At midnight the fallen were shown dispkaying the portaits of the girl from 1 Marcus from 2 and both of the tributes from 3 leaving 4 tributes remaing. Hera from 2 Ariana from 5 Winnow from 9 and Julia from 12 remaing.
Day 4
In the early morning one cannon sounded. This was shown to the captial audience to be Hera from 2 after she fell into the shell trap set by Ariana from 5.
Game maker monty congratulated the final 3 tributes on making it to the finally before telling them they had 5 minutes to return to the coroncoupia towere before having there tracker denoated. As Julia and WInnow made there journey to the tower Winnow looked into Julia’s eyes as the gongdela arrived at the main island both of the girls took caution as they saw the sprite shine very brightly. Soon a voice was heard saying “Come closer.” Julia made the rather stupid desscion as she steeped on one of teh many shells that were put up in the corncopuia. Many of her supporters in snow square shoutted at her to walk back it was to late as she soon blasted into the air before landing rather on her back. Ariana laughed before huffing into her blow gun as an arrow flew into the barley conocius Julia’s throat. Her cannon sounded as WInnow looked on in horor.
She grinned saying “You look like you havent been (Alive enough).” Ariana barked out in laughter saying that “this was the time where she could be free from the pure horror room.”
WInnow imedtlay grabbed onto her remaing knife before dogding ,any of the darts ariana was blowing at her. However Ariana soon tackled Winnow to ground before a brutal fust fight took place. Many viewrs in snow square were shoutting at Winnow to get up. Rather surprisingly Ariana suddenly stopped. She looked up at Ariana before laughing horsely before throwing the turtle’s at Winnow.
Winnow sighed and then screamed “Stop throwing your toys at me there explodable.”
Ariana laughed before soon catching her breath in exhaustion shouting at her to come out.
As Winnow was no where to be found viewers in the captial sighed disparingly as many thought she had been exploded. But rather suprsingly Winnow had been right been Ariana before saying “Suprise”.
Ariana yelped as Winnow then hurled her knife into Ariana’s brain. Her cannon sounded imedtlay as Winnow smiled saying “Seeya physco.” As respectable appluse soundded game make rmonty crowned Winnow Fraiser of District 9 to be the victor of the 113th hunger games Winnow smiled before taking the peacekeepers hands as she was escorted out of the arena.
Winnow was delcared to have no major injuries in the arena before being brought to her victors interview with Silca Monty. Silca was adorned in a formal gown which resmbled a chinesse princess. A land that would be captured by the captial. Please see story 138 true history’s begings.
Winnow was also welcomed on with respctable appluse fashioning a heige gown with golden spirtes resmebling the corcnoupia littering the dress. Unforeanutly Winnow had been rather quiet during her victors interview leaving a rather uncomfortable silence within the studios however. Silca managed to gear the interview to a less depressing point by talking about Winnow’s time in the arena.
After going over her time in the arena Silca reavled her victors nickname to be teh sunshine shadow.
Winnow smilled saying she’d “take it.”

She then waved as the audience cheered respectively as Silca welcomed her husband Cyrus to the stage.
Many cheers soon sounded as game maker monty regarly waved at the audience before kissing his wife. She then turned on a complamtion of his past 5 years of game making. Even showing a video of Quintin Mahoney Herminia Gold Ezra Montario Amanda mils Belle Figoura and even Winnow congratulating him on a succesful 6 years of game making. Cyrus smiled before bowing as the capital crowd cheered on as Silca ended the interview there.
Winnow returned home to district 9 the follwoing day, She alledly refused to stay for even party many genrous captial lights had offered to her. However she would return once year to the captial for her suty as an mentor. However she was adorned as hero throught district 9 as she moved into the victors village with her mother and grandmother.
When she became an adult she married a baker named Donmic Tanzi as the pair married and had two kids unforeanutly one of them would be chosen for a later games. She was known to be not to much of an helpful mentor but liked when her tributes “Actually shown the strength she approved of” Leading to have some what of an better track record in the games.
And that is the end of story 113 I hope you all enjoyed . This was one of my longer tales but one of my favorites to write. But yep after 114th games the european chrocnicle files will be out. As this shows what happens with Panems eueropean allies;. So i hope you all have a wonderful morning noon or night or what ever time it is for you and as we always say. Panem today panem tomrow panem forever.

'Batman: Caped Crusader' full press release with character descriptions (from Amazon)
CULVER CITY, California—May 9, 2024— Today, ahead of its inaugural upfront presentation on May 14, Prime Video announced that the highly anticipated new animated series from Warner Bros. Animation, Bad Robot Productions, and 6th & Idaho, Batman: Caped Crusader, will premiere all ten episodes Thursday, August 1, along with the official first-look images of this thrilling new show. The first-look images give audiences a special peek into the world of Gotham City, and some of the iconic fan favorite characters that will be featured in the upcoming season. The character reveals, with descriptions below include Bruce Wayne/Batman, Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Dr. Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn, Commissioner Jim Gordon and Clayface.

  • BATMAN - A cold, remorseless avenger of evil, seemingly more machine than man. Forged in the fire of tragedy, every fiber of his being is dedicated to the eradication of crime.
  • BRUCE WAYNE - To the public at large, Bruce Wayne is a shallow dilettante, apparently wasting his parents’ vast fortune on frivolous pursuits and hedonistic pleasures. In fact, he’s an elaborate facade, carefully constructed to divert attention from his activities as Batman.
  • SELINA KYLE / “CATWOMAN” - Selena Kyle is a blithe and pampered heiress whose family lost their fortune after her father was imprisoned for embezzlement. Despite having the silver spoon yanked from her mouth, Selina refuses to quit living in the lap of luxury and becomes Catwoman as a “fun” way to maintain her lavish lifestyle.
  • DR. HARLEEN QUINZEL / “HARLEY QUINN” - Despite a personable and bubbly demeanor, Dr. Harleen Quinzel is a brilliant psychiatrist who treats some of Gotham’s elite. However, as Harley Quinn, she is a different person, entirely. A creepy, quiet, calculating menace who secretly dispenses her twisted justice to the truly despicable among her elite clientele.
  • COMMISSIONER JIM GORDON - Former beat cop close to retirement, Gordon was hired to play along with the corrupt system and run out the clock till he can draw a pension. But they’ve sorely underestimated Jim Gordon. His unassailable character brings him into conflict with dirty cops and crooked politicians, alike. Not to mention, he has to reckon with a deranged vigilante beating up Gotham’s criminals.
  • CLAYFACE - Thanks to his “unique” facial features, screen actor Basil Karlo has been forever typecast as a B-movie heavy. Frustrated by the limitations his appearance put on both his career and personal life (he fell hopelessly in love with his co-star), Karlo turned to an experimental serum that promised to change his face. However, not only does this serum ultimately disfigure his face, but it ruptures the last of his sanity -- creating the tragic, vengeance seeking villain, Clayface.
Batman: Caped Crusader will be available to stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide beginning on Thursday, August 1.

About Batman: Caped Crusader
Welcome to Gotham City, where the corrupt outnumber the good, criminals run rampant and law-abiding citizens live in a constant state of fear. Forged in the fire of tragedy, wealthy socialite Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human—the BATMAN. His one-man crusade for justice attracts unexpected allies within the GCPD and City Hall, but his heroic actions spawn deadly, unforeseen ramifications.
The series is a reimagining of the Batman mythology through the visionary lens of executive producers J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Bruce Timm. Based on DC characters, Batman: Caped Crusader hails from Warner Bros. Animation, Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions and Reeves’ 6th & Idaho. Along with Abrams, Reeves and Timm, Batman: Caped Crusader executive producers include Ed Brubaker, James Tucker, Daniel Pipski, Rachel Rusch Rich, and Sam Register.

White Clouds (Black Eagles), White Clouds (Blue Lions), White Clouds (Golden Deer), Silver Snow (Black Eagles), Crimson Flower

Introduction

A concept for a Three Houses remake that (hopefully) solves a number of the issues some had with the game, enfolds characters and worldbuilding from the DLC and Three Hopes effectively into the base game, and creates an improved yet similar gameplay experience in the ways people enjoyed.
Base Gameplay Functions
Recruitment. At this point only your allies are in the monastery. During Chapter 12 you can still request students of the Blue Lions house join you on missions to build support, and the same with staff members who aren't technically recruited. Post-timeskip, recruitment is done on the battlefield or via paralogues.
The Calendar. You are given a new mission after completing an old one. You do not have to complete the mission before the end of a month. However, you cannot take more than forty-five days to complete any given mission. In addition, traveling over the continent map to missions, paralogues or side battles takes up time. While traveling you can miss holiday meals, holiday services, and birthdays. Students will still learn while traveling. Traveling through a green region takes 1 day. You cannot travel through silver or colorless regions. Battling in a silver region takes two days, turning it green after.
Group Tasks. There are more than three group tasks now. How many students you can assign at a time starts at two and increases with professor level, to four at D, six at C, eight at B and ten at A. The group tasks are as follows: Training Yard Management (Sword), Camp Construction (Axe), Fishing (Lance), Hunting (Bow), Night Watch (Brawling), Studying (Reason), Chapel Service (Faith), Armor Maintenance (Armor), Recruitment (Authority), Care for Horses (Riding) and Sky Watch (Flying).
Hidden Paralogues. Post timeskip, most paralogues don't simply appear on the map - they have to be discovered while conquering territory. Hidden Paralogues (which accounts for the majority of post-timeskip paralogues) ONLY APPEAR if a territory bordering them is green.
Side Battles. Post timeskip, the side battles are not named and set. Instead they're randomly generated based on the location they're in and the part of the story they're set during.
Ultimate Supports. There's a level of support after A that many characters can reach with others, not just Byleth. Depending on the pair, these are either S supports (romantic proposals) or AA supports (platonic endings). Those trigger ordinarily, through increasing support levels, except for with Byleth. Byleth can choose to give anyone they've reached A support with the ring, triggering their ultimate support.
Arcane Combat Arts. Arcane Combat Arts are the result of Relics or Mastery Abilities; they rely on a certain spell's uses and consume one when activated, as opposed to weapon durability. Each is tied to a specific spell.
Roster Revamp. If you choose Silver Snow in the Holy Tomb, Edelgard warps away - then, your students begin to discuss this new war. Most of them leave - your new roster, assuming you recruited Shez and the Ashen Wolves, is as follows: Byleth, Rhea (Archbishop), Catherine, Seteth (Wyvern Rider), Shamir (Sniper), Cyril (Wyvern Rider), Mercedes, Ashe, Manuela (Trickster), Flayn, Yuri and Alois.

Chapter 12: To War

Edelgard's forces are marching. Fortunately, it looks as though she and Hubert are the only former students present; the Blue Lion students have remained to fight alongside the Church, and while Rhea curses the Golden Deer for cowards they have every right to return home and stay out of this conflict. Meanwhile, the Church and its allies prepare for a war.
Paralogue 15: A Cursed Relic. Yuri and Shamir are discussing a Dagdan legend of plunder from Fodlan. Yuri seems particularly intrigued, then offhandedly mentions that he heard about something like that being brought in by Duke Gerth from Dagda, taken by Albinean pirates, and traded to Dominic. Baron Dominic is the green unit here, who is being attacked by monsters as Yuri seeks to reclaim the Fetters of Dromi.
A: Defending the Monastery. Exactly like Defending Garreg Mach, but the reinforcements are Dimitri for Jeritza and Felix for Hubert. Instead of being captured Rhea is injured and flees to the Kingdom just as in CF. Byleth falls just as in AM.

Chapter 13: Hunting by Daybreak

Byleth awakes and goes to the monastery, only to see Dimitri there. he whispers that he should have known Byleth would come to haunt him too - in his rambling, he also mentions that all his friends are gone, many serving the Empire, and Felix likely coming to put him down. Byleth tries to reach out to Dimitri, but he knocks them to the ground and flees. Byleth starts to follow only to meet Rhea, who came from her refuge in northeastern Faerghus on a feeling that something would happen. After a tearful reunion and Rhea asking if Byleth remembers anything, she laments that the monastery is fallen, claimed by bandits who soil its holy ground. Rhea asks if Byleth will help her reclaim this sacred place and restore it to glory, triggering the fight. Before the battle, however, you see (as you do before most battles in this route) students you can recruit talking to one another. You can recruit Shez using Byleth if they have at least a C support. You can recruit Felix using Byleth or Seteth assuming they have at least a C support with him.
After the battle, Rhea gathers the Church forces to her and announces that with Byleth returned, they have to push back against the Empire and its vassal states. Byleth adds, to Rhea's irritation, that they're going to try and keep their students safe. Rhea tells them, trying to be gentle, that the Kingdom is in ruins and most of their students won't be available. Byleth persists, and Rhea just shakes her head sadly and leaves.

Chapter 14: A King Without A Kingdom

The Western Kingdom and the Southern Alliance are under the sway of the Empire, and the students have become generals in their respective armies. The Church has reclaimed Garreg Mach, but it seems the Empire has heard - and they send forces to reclaim it: Randolph von Bergliez, Constance von Nuvelle and Thaddeus von Ochs. The Church has to stabilize the area around Garreg Mach before Randolph arrives to attack.
A: Defending Garreg Mach. Before the Imperial army arrives, there's a brief scene showing a student who can be recruited discussing with Randolph; in battle, Constance can be recruited by Byleth or Yuri if they have at least a C support with her. Randolph flees once defeated in this route, with Baron Ochs and (perhaps) Constance the only deaths.

Chapter 15: The Valley of Torment

After the monastery is safe, Rhea invites Byleth with her to the Holy Tomb. She asks if Byleth recalls the Red Canyon, and Byleth responds that they fought Kostas there. Rhea begins to choke up and asks Byleth to leave her in the tomb, which they obediently do, having the option to pause a moment outside which allows them to hear her weeping. Meeting with the other Knights, Catherine recommends meeting in the Valley of Torment, near Charon territory. Catherine interjects to mention that Rodrigue, who has been holding out against the Empire, will try and meet them there as well, with supplies and troops. Together, the Knights plan their next move.
A: Clash at Ailell. As the Knights mobilize to meet Rodrigue (who enters as a green unit but, if protected, becomes a blue unit immediately after the battle) word of their meeting reaches House Rowe. While the Rowe knights mobilize and catch a thief as well, the Knights enter the Valley only to walk right into an ambush. Hapi is recruitable by Byleth or Yuri if they have at least a C support. Ingrid is also recruitable by Byleth, Ashe or Mercedes if they have at least a C support. After the battle, Rodrigue mentions that forces in the Alliance seem to be gearing up to drive the Empire out of the Bridge of Myrddin. Catherine notes that if they strike quickly, they could sieze Myrddin themselves and use it to stage an invasion of Bergliez.

Chapter 16: The Rose-Colored River

Rumors reach the Knights of Alliance and Kingdom forces rallying behind Claude and Dimitri respectively. Byleth can suggest they help either or wait and let the three nations tire each other out; all students from the respective nation (or the Empire if neither is chosen) increase their support with Byleth. Rhea says instead they ought to take the Bridge of Myrddin and then use it to choke the Empire into submission. Seteth and Catherine agree that’s the best bet, and the Knights march on the Alliance.
A: Hidden Paralogue 5 - Heir to Albrecht. Shamir gets asked about a mercenary contract for a single job and suggests they all go check it out. Apparently a pricey bounty is in a local inn, and that could of course help finance the war. When the group arrives, however, it’s not a stranger but Balthus, fighting off several mercenaries. Upon realizing it, any recruited Wolves immediately advise to help him instead. If none are alive and recruited, Balthus calls out to Byleth asking for help. After the paralogue is completed, Balthus catches up to the army and offers to help them out in repayment.
B: Battle at the Great Bridge. Before the Knights reach the bridge, its defenders talk strategy. After the Knights arrive, they sweep the Great Bridge. Halfway through the battle, however, Ladislava enters as reinforcement - along with Lorenz, to his father's consternation. Lorenz and Ladislava fall defending the Bridge as Erwin promptly retreats, forced to give it up to Church control.

Chapter 17: Blood of the Eagle and Lion

The Empire, Kingdom and Alliance forces, all gathering to fight, meet at Gronder Field. The Kingdom and the Alliance don’t fight one another, focusing on the Empire, but Dimitri seems quite aggressive and Shamir reports that she actually overheard Alliance forces discussing destroying the Knights of Seiros after they swept through the western Alliance. It seems all three factions may come out as enemies.
A: To War at Gronder. While crossing the Great Bridge, the Knights receive reports that the Kingdom has managed to force a small force through the mountains, while the Alliance has crossed a sequence of smaller bridges in Ordelia. No one knows who can be trusted. Before the battle a scene plays, and Dimitri discusses with Sylvain and Dedue regarding his own state. Finally, the Knights deploy to fight forces of all three nations; they soon find the Alliance has soldiers out for their blood, and Claude opts to defend his people rather than let them fall to Rhea's blade. Dimitri will hear no reason, and of course the Empire wishes to stop all three from advancing. During the battle Sylvain can be recruited by Byleth, Ingrid or Felix if they have C support, and Dedue can be recruited by Byleth, Mercedes or Flayn if they've reached B support. After the battle, a cutscene plays. Edelgard and Claude meet while organizing a retreat. They drop their default lines (lovelier than ever, not so unfortunate) then Edelgard raises Aymr, only to pause as Claude stows Failnaught. She lowers her own weapon as Claude explains that after that battle, he's done with Fodlan. He mentions that despite what differences they may have, he doubts either he or Edelgard wants to see a world with Rhea regaining control, and in the interest of "a potential future favor" warns her that it seems like Rhea and Dimitri are conspiring together before he mounts his wyvern and flies off, leaving Edelgard to hurry south. After this scene, Dimitri approaches Byleth. Byleth can either order the Knights to take him in and care for him, or to leave him. If you leave him here, there's a brief few lines about packing up then a CG of Dimitri collapsed on the field while any recruited Lions lament his death. If you ask the Knights to care for him, there's a CG of Rhea embracing him while she orders them to do so without hesitation as a very wounded and weakened Dimitri thanks both Byleth and Rhea profusely. When he wakes up, there's a CG of all the recruited Lions and Byleth standing at his bedside, and he hoarsely demands to know why they wouldn't let him die. At that point Dimitri officially joins your army.

Chapter 18: The Resurrection of Seiros

After success at Gronder, whispers have spread across the land. People say Seiros has been reborn. They say that she lives on in Rhea, the Archbishop, and that she'll destroy the Empire. Rhea welcomes these rumors and dons the Seiros garb henceforth when she goes to battle, unlocking the Saint class. As an additional mastery reward, Saint offers a class-exclusive Arcane Combat Art: Immaculate Transformation, which expends a use of Abraxas and turns Rhea into the Immaculate One for three turns or until she uses her staggering blow. As the Immaculate One, she can attack at one to three range with her Crest Stone, can fly, and takes up nine spaces. She does only have her normal amount of HP but heals each turn. The Knights decide that they need to secure the Kingdom and Alliance, both of which, paying heed to the rumors, now have factions that may be willing to assist the Knights with their war. Rhea decides to head to Fhirdiad and Derdriu; Dimitri, or Yuri (or Catherine if neither was recruited) recommends taking the Silver Maiden instead, as it will allow them to hold the border with the Empire and is much closer to the monastery. Seteth advises taking Derdriu first; the Kingdom is in shambles and will pose little threat. So the Knights march on Derdriu.
A: Hidden Paralogue 2 - Forgotten Hero. As the Knights of Seiros touch upon the infamous Enchanted Forest of Mircea, a howl echoes through the sky. A soft sound of weeping permeates the fog, and Ashe recalls a legend of a lost Elite and a beast that wanders these woods. Rhea goes very silent regarding this legend, and Seteth tells Flayn to stay silent just as she seems about to speak. Upon arrival, the Knights find Marianne (a green unit) in the midst of a forest of monsters, talking to Maurice. Maurice has unique dialogue against Rhea, and once the paralogue is completed Marianne joins your army.
B: Capturing Derdriu. As the Knights arrive in the city, the Imperial army faces off against Erwin - who, after the fall of Myrddin, has decided that the Church might well be a safer bet for the Alliance than the Empire. However, after their standstill ends, an Imperial scout calls out to Monica with news that sends Gregoire scurrying - and a cutscene triggers. Almyran ships, massive 24-gun warships, crest the horizon to the sound of Citizens of the East. Cannonballs fly over the city - and hit the walls, constructed long ago, that protect Derdriu from flooding. Water sweeps through the city streets. A lone man on wyvernback flies to the raised outer platform and throws a handaxe at an Imperial archer preparing to fire, and Nader steps off and announces himself as the camera pans over the approaching ships, with wyverns, soldiers, and giant hawks waiting on deck. "My name is Nader the Undefeated, and this city is now under the protection of the Almyran Navy... under command of Prince Khalid the Immortal, heir to the throne." At the announcement of their commander the camera focuses in on the furthest ship - where Claude, Failnaught in hand, watches carefully. Then the cutscene ends, and Claude calls commands to the soldiers. Claude has unique dialogue against Byleth, Rhea and Cyril making his goals and intentions clear. After a long battle, the Knights drive out the Empire and protect Derdriu from Almyra... and now the time has come to turn their gaze to the far west, where Arianrhod awaits.

Chapter 19: Maiden of Discord

With the Alliance now firmly under Church control and safe from Imperial incursions, the Knights must turn their gaze westward. Fanning out through both Imperial and Faerghan Mach, they prepare to take the fortress city Arianrhod. Seteth confronts Rhea about what she intends to do once the war is over, with Catherine quick to come to her defense and Byleth asked to mediate. There isn't time to talk the aftermath too much, however; as Annette arrives to Garreg Mach, she mentions that her father is planning with some other Kingdom knights to stage a battle against the Empire at Arianrhod, and hopes the Church can arrive in time to help, lighting a fire under them to attack the fortress. Annette joins your army at the beginning of this chapter.
A: Hidden Paralogue 3 - Legend of the Lake. As the Knights pass Duval territory, Flayn mentions a curious myth about a saintly beast and a Sacred Relic. She tells Byleth, but advises them not to tell Rhea because she suspects she would be rather opposed to disturbing a sacred location for such a thing. Seteth is scandalized when he finds out, but admits that it could be good to go and speak to a certain old friend there. Rhea can't be deployed in this battle. Byleth gathers those they think should join in such an excursion only to find a giant turtle apparently blocking the way. Upon arrival, they find Linhardt (a green unit) who seems to have been curious about the same thing. If he survives the battle, he asks to join your army.
B: Hidden Paralogue 4 - Foreign Land and Skies. The Empire is well and truly entrenched in Brigid; The Church intends to go and see if the island nation can't be persuaded to their side. Failing that, they may be forced to put an end to the pro-Imperial dynasty and cow the nation into staying neutral. The battle layout and opening and arrival dialogues change based on whether Byleth has a B support with Petra, and she is resistant to the Empire at the beginning and when arriving; or whether Byleth does not, and Petra is openly on the side of the Empire and arrives as reinforcement. Either way, only Byleth can persuade her to join the Church, if they've reached C support.
C: Siege of the Silver Maiden. Arianrhod has long been a prize of the Kingdom, and the Empire won't let it go easily. However, some of the Kingdom's knights have organized a resistance! They attacked Arianrhod - and it seems Marquis Vestra, for inexorable reasons, attacked a faction within the fortress. The Knights of Seiros, reinforcing the Kingdom, are drawing quite a bit of attention from both the Empire and the Agarthans as they arrive. Gilbert can be recruited in this chapter by talking to him with Dimitri or Annette. Of course, Rhea and the Knights are able to expel Hubert, destroy Cornelia, and reclaim Arianrhod to defend the Kingdom in truth.

Chapter 20: The Impregnable Fortress

After establishing safe boundaries for the Alliance and Kingdom, Rhea decides that it’s high time to press southward to the heart of the enemy - and to destroy Edelgard once and for all. The first thing to do is seize Fort Merceus, in the heart of Bergliez, to advance from there into Hresvelg, where Edelgard rules.
A: Taking Fort Merceus. The battle is laid out exactly as it would be in Verdant Winds if Linhardt was recruited (in current 3H), with Caspar standing guard along with Jeritza. After Jeritza starts fleeing, however, reinforcements appear if Shez wasn't recruited. The commanders are defeated and the Javelins of Light fall as the Death Knight flees. Rhea has some feelings about them, of course, but tries to contain herself. Right now? They have an Empire to topple. And Enbarr is within sight.

Chapter 21: The Chaos of War

The Knights of Seiros, having taken Fort Merceus, march on Enbarr. Edelgard's decision to keep civilians in the homes is met with quite a bit of shock, including, if recruited, from some of her own.
A: Skirmish in the Streets. Hubert and the Death Knight stand guard in the city streets; Jeritza dies when defeated, as does Hubert. Afterward, there is nothing left save to make your way into the palace itself.

Chapter 22: As The Dead Demand

A: Clash at the Imperial Palace. This chapter plays out mostly the same as in Silver Snow. When Edelgard is defeated, a cutscene plays: if you recruited Dimitri, Edelgard steps back, panting, and raises Aymr to guard as he thrusts with Areadhbar. It's not enough, however, and the axe shatters and Dimitri successfully stabs Edelgard, who goes limp. He drops Areadhbar and falls to his knees, beginning to cry, then whispers, "what more do you ask." Rhea and Byleth approach, each putting a hand on his shoulder, and the scene ends. If not, then Rhea and Byleth both fight Edelgard for a brief period, then Rhea manages to claim the final blow, cutting Edelgard down, and the scene ends. After the battle, Rhea and a letter from Hubert fill in details regarding the Agarthans and Relics. Then it becomes clear exactly where the Knights must next go.

Chapter 23: The City Without Light

After Edelgard’s conquest ends, the Nabateans end up making one thing clear: the Agarthans, who were behind Nemesis, are ready to destroy everything once they set up their schemes. Everyone is in agreement: the Agarthans must be stopped. Rhea, Byleth, the Knights of Seiros, and whoever they’ve ended up recruiting from the other nations of Fodlan begin marching their way eastward, to fight Those Who Slither in the Dark.
A: Hidden Paralogue 4 - Into the Abyss (Shez). Shez approaches Byleth mid-travel. Byleth asks them what they’re doing and they respond, “oh, nothing. Just thinking how the time has finally come,” in Arval’s voice. Shez then grabs Byleth and teleports them to an empty void. Byleth prepares to fight Shez, who in turn raises their hands and says they don't know what happened. Epimenides appears and monologues about the fall of the Agarthans for a while and then tells Byleth and Shez that "the Fell Star" and "his worthless vessel" are trapped in Zahras forever. Byleth hears Sothis' voice, as if from afar, command them to kill Epimenides; once they do, for a moment, the form of a woman appears in a rift of light that deposits both of them at the very same place and time they started. Completing this paralogue unlocks the Asura class for Shez.
A: Stand Strong at Shambhala. This battle plays out much as in current Silver Snow; however, in the lead up, Rhea is more regretful, seemingly, of what happened to Byleth. Rhea seems eager to finally take her revenge, with Dimitri solemnly offering his support. The battle plays out the same. When Thales calls down the javelins, Rhea stops them, and when she lands, Byleth and Dimitri if he's recruited thank her profusely. There’s a brief moment after the battle where Byleth, shown by a dying Myson, gets the chance to use the Asclepius Engine and, rather than demanding they try to use it to call back Sothis, Rhea allows Byleth to choose a single unit that died over the course of the playthrough; in addition to all the dead units, Jeralt is an option, and if you choose Jeralt then you gain support with both him and Rhea and there's a CG of Jeralt hugging Byleth after emerging from the machine. Then, however, the Nemesis awakening scene plays out as Rhea, Byleth and possibly Dimitri begin discussing how to proceed with Fodlan.

Chapter 24: Following a Dream

After the Agarthans are defeated, everyone gathers at the monastery to discuss Fodlan’s future only to find that a man and an army of undead soldiers are tearing northward. Dimitri if he was recruited, Jeralt if he was resurrected and it isn't Dimitri, or otherwise Seteth - returns barely alive from trying to slow his advance. Rhea’s reaction to their return is grateful for Dimitri, relieved for Jeralt, and extremely relieved for Seteth, who she reminds she attempted to insist not go in the first place. Everyone agrees: they have one more monster to stop before Fodlan’s future is safe.
A: The King of Liberation. At the Tailtean Plains, Rhea makes note that this is where she slew Nemesis all those years ago. Finally, Nemesis and the Ten Elites appear, along with a few Agarthan mages. Lamine does something which covers the battlefield in sludge, though the rivers stop it from spreading too far. Thus begins the final battle. Nemesis and his Elites fight against the Knights of Seiros and the Imperial army to the sound of God-Shattering Star. After you destroy the Ten Elites and defeat Nemesis himself, the final cutscene triggers.
If you recruited Dimitri, then it’s Dimitri who rushes Nemesis, Rhea right behind him. Nemesis knocks both down and runs at Rhea only for Dimitri to throw Areadhbar and knock him out of the way. Rhea stands and Dimitri orders her to protect herself. She hesitates, then grabs his arm and orders him to do the same. As Nemesis swings again, the two make a united charge against him, Areadhbar to the legs and the Sword of Seiros to the head. Nemesis tries to parry Areadhbar and Rhea cuts his head clean off, with it flying in a wide arc to land on the grass as she turns and cleans her blade with a sigh.
If you didn’t recruit Dimitri but recruited Yuri, Rhea rushes at Nemesis only to be stopped by a hand on her shoulder as Yuri tells her not to rush in. Nemesis mocks her, and Rhea grits her teeth but holds back. Nemesis finally charges, just in time for Yuri to jump in front of him, warp out of the way as he swings and cut his hamstrings, leading him to fall at Rhea’s feet. Rhea drives the Sword of Seiros through his heart, killing him, before turning away with a sigh.
If you didn’t recruit your lord or Yuri, but resurrected Jeralt, then the hand on her shoulder is Jeralt. He tells her he wants a go at this so-called King, and swordfights Nemesis for a bit. Rhea yells for him to leave Nemesis to her, and Jeralt counters that she’d have to make him. Rhea goes as though to shove him aside, then hesitates. She waits a moment, then as Nemesis lunges, casts Agnea's Arrow, incinerating him right in front of Jeralt, who turns to her and thanks her as she simply sighs.
If you didn’t meet the conditions for any of the above, then Rhea rushes Nemesis only to be knocked to the ground and disarmed. Byleth blocks Nemesis’ sword before it can strike her, and Rhea stands in shock. Byleth knocks Nemesis back, turns to Rhea, and then just as Byleth is about to step back, Rhea does so, turning with a sigh as Byleth dispatches Nemesis.
After this, the appropriate S support cutscene plays, then Byleth and their spouse are standing close together for the final scenes of Rhea and, if recruited, Dimitri discussing changes to be made in the future. Afterward, if your spouse is Seteth or Yuri, they mention they aren’t sure if this will be a good idea, then a cutscene begins regardless of S support status. Byleth lays the Sword of the Creator in a shallow grave, then lies beside it. Rhea kneels as they close their eyes, cuts open their chest, and pulls out Sothis’ Crest Stone. Rhea immediately heals Byleth with white magic, and their heart begins beating as their hair bleeds to blue. They sit up and look to Rhea, who crushes the Crest Stone, then drops the fragments in the grave. Byleth grabs a shovel, as do Rhea, Seteth, and, if recruited, Jeralt and your lord. Then there’s a scene from inside the grave of dirt covering it up, and a long sigh and Sothis whispering “finally.” Cut to outside the grave; Rhea is crying silently and whispers “goodbye, mother,” before hugging Byleth, then it goes to the ending text and end cards. The ending crawl changes slightly, based on whether you recruited Dimitri or not.
Without Dimitri: A rising flame was alight as the flow of time carved a new history for Fódlan. The final battle was over, and Nemesis was destroyed, along with the Agarthans. After five and a half years of war, a new age was set to begin. The Empire, Kingdom, and Alliance were forever changed, many of their leaders gone and the rest stepping up with the help of the Church. The borders were reinforced by divine decree, and many policies the Church had once held sacred were reworked entirely. The church's new leader became a champion of the people, working tirelessly to help them overcome the horrors of war and to carve a path towards reconstruction. Just as Saint Seiros tended to those who suffered in wars of the past, Fódlan's new rulers, with her guidance, embraced their role as guardians of the continent and its people.

2024.04.22 18:55 faze4guru Do the writers forget what they've written?

I apologize if this has been discussed but I'm new to this sub. I'm on a re-watch and it baffles me how many things it seems like the writers just forgot they said in earlier episodes.
1) In the very first episode, John tells Dan that they find rodeos insulting, then they spend 5 seasons obsessed with the rodeo.
2) Beth goes with Jamie to bring his father to the train station, but then seems to be surprised to find out about it when Jamie mentions Rip and John using it.
3) How is Jimmy able to ride a horse again much less ride unbroken horses down in Texas when there was doubt he'd even be able to walk again?
4) How was John only in a coma for 2 months, but Beth's catastrophic burns have all healed? Wouldn't that take more than 2 months?
5) In Season 4 they twice mention that Governor Perry has two years left on her term (once to John and once to Kayce) and talk about how long it takes to do an election, and simultaneously Monica finds out she's pregnant but then in the season 5 premiere John is governor and Monica is still pregnant, so how has it been 2 years?
6) How many more times are Kayce and Monica going to move back onto the ranch only to then have her freak out again and have them move back off the ranch?
There are more, I'm just currently watching the S5 finale right now and these are on my mind.

2024.04.16 16:45 Regnisyak1 The Amazing Race 9 - A Review!

Hi everyone, time for TAR 9 - but first, if you want to read my reviews from last week, here's the link to TAR 8. I love writing these, and I love sharing opinions with y'all so hope you continue to enjoy these : )
And like usual, I have polls as well! Here is TAR 9, the masterlist with the links and the leaderboard. Thanks for taking these, I love seeing your opinions roll through.
TAR 9... was an interesting season, I'll give it that. I thought the route was a lot of fun, and a lot of the legs were really fascinating - I really enjoyed the Russia leg with the diving, and one of my favorite challenges ever now was the broken battles challenge in Germany - that one made me so happy for some reason. There were also some dramatic moments this season with the yield, which I think in one case had a really funny outcome, and in another, it annoyed the crap out of me... but I'll get to that in a minute.
But, yeah otherwise I didn't like this season at all, lol. The two-horse race between the hippies and the frat bros was boring, and I really found both of the teams to be really unlikable, for two different reasons, which I will get into below. So yeah, the endgame was a mean-spirited mess, but I will say, I found the first couple of boots this season to be some of the best in the history of the show so far. John and Scott, Lisa and Joni, and Wanda and Desiree were all a lot of fun, and it would have been interesting if they had longevity, but sadly they didn't. So anyway, let's get into the character rankings. I am assuming that this season is fairly controversial here because I was conflicted about it, but I know my friends in the Survivor community are also very mixed on it.
CHARACTERS:
  1. Eric and Jeremy (0/10) - As I mentioned above, I found the two-horse race between the hippies and frat bros to be really uninteresting because I found both teams to be really unlikable. The Frat Bros are arguably worse because their only two character traits were either "horny" or "competitive." The horny part especially I found to be disgusting because it was just sexual harassment I completely understand liking this team for how well they did throughout the season, but I just was always uncomfortable whenever they were on screen. I also thought they contributed to the mean-spirited and negative endgame with the cab stealing debacle. I think that could have been interesting with any other teams but with them, it just came off as extra swarmy. I think ultimately though, the horny teenager crap makes them slightly worse than their competition:
  2. BJ and Tyler (0/10) - I found BJ and Tyler to be insanely annoying right off the bat because I am not a fan when people come onto the show to play characters, and the hippies seemed way too exaggerated to be real people. I like realistic archetypes in reality TV and they were trying too hard. Them running backward into first place, the wheelchairs, and their heel clicks were just too OTT for me, and their endless optimism was annoying - I think one of the best parts of their character was when BJ was getting annoyed because it showed them break character for two seconds, and then BAM NEL made them insufferable. However, being a character is not why they are a 0/10 for me. They are a 0/10 because of their constant whining in the endgame portion of the game, where I eventually found them to be so unrootable that I lost complete interest in the season. I think the thing where they are blackmailing other teams to use the yield might be one of the whiniest things in the series, and I think their smugness about that was correct. Again, if you like competitive teams, then I respect your take for liking them, but I found this, and also their vengeance toward MoJo for not giving them money to be annoying (specifically, them bringing up Eric flirting with Monica). I also hate forced underdog arcs and following that leg we just got so much "woe is me" throughout the race because they constantly complained about being on the bottom and disliked by the teams, when in reality it's their undoing by blackmailing everyone. When shows try to force an underdog arc for characters who did villainous things, then that's when I lose interest.
  3. Dave and Lori (1/10) - Nerds. Not big on the archetype, and I found them to quickly grate my nerves. It's cute how in love they were, but... meh, I found them taxing more than anything.
  4. Danielle and Dani (2/10) - Double D was a bad team for the fact that they were the main objects of Eric and Jeremy's early horndog status in the show. Yes, we love objectifying women! However, I think they did have a fun elimination from the hands of Lake and Michelle, and watching them realize their fate was taken was pretty interesting.
  5. John and Scott (5/10) - At first I thought I was going not going to like John and Scott, but I found their story to be really concise and pretty great for a first boot. Scott was terrified of flying, but he was forced to do it several times during the race. I don't really wish they stayed longer because they were kind of annoying, but I think it was a little tragic how quickly they were eliminated because John probably felt that there was more for him to achieve, but even then, he was able to face his fear quickly.
  6. Lisa and Joni (5/10) - Lisa and Joni were hilarious to me - the glamazons were a hot mess on the season, and they had some great quotes like asking about the city and their general distaste for the tasks they did. I don't think they are stellar by any means, but they sure did make me live a lot during the season.
  7. Monica and Joseph (6/10) - I found their relationship dynamics to be uncomfortable at points because they just seemed aggressive toward each other. However, they were the leading voice against BJ and Tyler was much-needed negativity for the season they got, but unfortunately, they were framed more as villains for dare going against the Hippies! Oh well, I enjoyed them as much as I could.
  8. Wanda and Desiree (6/10) - I adored these two, and I wish we had more time with them on the season. I think Desiree being the parent in the swimming challenge with Desiree with really touching because she had to see her mom in that vulnerable state. Plus, they were a lot of fun in Brazil with them speaking Spanish and their mishaps with the trolley, and I just enjoyed their presence.
  9. Ray and Yolanda (7/10) - Ray and Yolanda were a quieter team on the season, but I found them to be enjoyable. They fought a lot because this was their first time spending time together in a long-distance relationship. We've seen this a lot on the show already, but I think Ray and Yolanda are one of the first few to show beef with one another and start arguing more. But, at the end of the day, I think they loved each other, and it was interesting to watch them find out their relationship, and how to communicate beyond teasing each other.
  10. Fran and Barry (7/10) - I both love Fran and Barry and also found them to be a little annoying, so I can't really justify having them higher than a 7. Them missing clue boxes got kind of old after a while, but they continued to prove that time and time again they were athletic and competent races, and watching them rise to first place after so many hippie and frat bro wins was a relief, and if anyone won, I am glad it was them! They were also really sweet with each other, and while assume some of the arguing was hidden, you could tell they were just a lovely older couple.
  11. Lake and Michelle (7/10) - I found these two to be really hilarious throughout the season, and I don't think there was any point in the season where their behavior didn't make me laugh out loud. Lake was so competitive with the other teams and his over-exaggerations came across as hilarious, but a necessary factor to the season to break up the monotony of the hippies vs. frat bros. Their yield against Dani and Danielle was also hilarious because they really did not have to screw them over but they were frantic and picked the last option. Michelle was also really funny because she was trying to stay composed with her southern belle image against Lake's crazy guy image, and her replacing cuss words with darn it and such was funny. They were a mess overall, and I just really enjoyed their time, their misnavegations, and the overt competitiveness. Honestly though, Fran and Barry, Ray and Yolanda, and Lake and Michelle are all good, and I really don't have them in any defined order, I like them all about the same.
Season Ranking: 1/10 - I can't emphasize how much I disliked the central teams this season, and the endgame tanked it a lot for me.
On to TAR 10 - I actually finished TAR 9 a few days ago and I began writing this during the premiere of the next one I've thought it was a lot of fun so far with promise - although Bilal and Saeed were robbed... not getting the Dustin and Kandice hype just yet, but I heard they get better around Episode 4.

Directors at the Box Office: Guillermo del Toro
https://preview.redd.it/ssgcrty5dbuc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=840fd130b74c5be5023b84779deac50ee8ef1874
Here's a new edition of "Directors at the Box Office", which seeks to explore the directors' trajectory at the box office and analyze their hits and bombs. I already talked about a few, and as I promised, it's Guillermo del Toro's turn.
When del Toro was about eight years old, he began experimenting with his father's Super 8 camera, making short films with Planet of the Apes toys and other objects. One short focused on a "serial killer potato" with ambitions of world domination; it murdered del Toro's mother and brothers before stepping outside and being crushed by a car. Del Toro studied special effects and make-up with special-effects artist Dick Smith. He spent 10 years as a special-effects make-up designer and formed his own company, Necropia. Eventually, he would get his chance to direct films.
From a box office perspective, how reliable was he to deliver a box office hit?
That's the point of this post. To analyze his career.

Cronos (1992)

"An ancient device. A modern discovery. A terrifying tale of the eternal."
His directorial debut. The film stars Federico Luppi, Ron Perlman, Claudio Brook, Margarita Isabel and Tamara Shanath. A mysterious device designed to provide its owner with eternal life resurfaces after four hundred years, leaving a trail of destruction in its path.
The film struggled at the box office, as there wasn't a lot of support for a Mexican film back then. But del Toro made a very good impression with critics, helping him launch into cult cinema.
  • Budget: $2,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $621,392.
  • Worldwide gross: $621,392.

Mimic (1997)

"For thousands of years, man has been evolution's greatest creation... until now."
His second film. Based on the short story by Donald A. Wollheim, it stars Mira Sorvino, Jeremy Northam, Josh Brolin, Charles S. Dutton, Giancarlo Giannini and F. Murray Abraham. Three years ago, entomologist Dr. Susan Tyler genetically created an insect to kill cockroaches carrying a virulent disease. Now, the insects are out to destroy their only predator, mankind.
While del Toro was excited over working on his first American project, he had a very rough time dealing with Miramax. When Harvey Weinstein saw early footage, there were fights between him and del Toro regarding the tone, with Weinstein claiming the film was not scary enough. It has been reported that one day Weinstein was so infuriated with del Toro that he stormed onto the Toronto set and attempted to instruct del Toro on "how to direct a movie". Weinstein would eventually try to get del Toro fired. Following an intervention from lead actress Mira Sorvino, Weinstein backed down, and principal photography would be completed with del Toro as director in early 1997. However, Weinstein still insisted on having control over the final cut. Producer B.J. Rack later compared making the film to "being a prisoner of a war camp", as del Toro was not given final cut privilege.
While the film had the backing of a big American studio, the film failed to recoup its $30 million budget. The film also received mixed reviews, who noted problems with the story and pacing. Del Toro has expressed his disappointment with the film, calling it "a horrible, horrible, horrible experience."
  • Budget: $30,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $25,480,490.
  • Worldwide gross: $25,480,803.

The Devil's Backbone (2001)

"What's a ghost?"
His third film. It stars Marisa Paredes, Eduardo Noriega, Federico Luppi, Irene Visedo, Fernando Tielve, and Íñigo Garcés. Set in Spain, 1939, during the final year of the Spanish Civil War, the film follows a boy who is left in an orphanage operated by Republican loyalists and haunted by the ghost of a recently-deceased boy.
Del Toro wrote the first draft before writing Cronos. This "very different" version was set in the Mexican Revolution and focused not on a child's ghost but a "Christ with three arms". According to del Toro, and as drawn in his notebooks, there were many iterations of the story, some of which included antagonists who were a "doddering ... old man with a needle," a "desiccated" ghost with black eyes as a caretaker (instead of the living Jacinto who terrorizes the orphans), and "beings who are red from head to foot."
The film received highly positive reviews, who noted as his best film yet. While the film wasn't exactly a megahit, it made a very good amount of money in Mexico.
  • Budget: $4,500,000.
  • Domestic gross: $755,249.
  • Worldwide gross: $6,582,065.

Blade II (2002)

"Faster. Sharper. Deadlier."
His fourth film. The sequel to Blade, it stars Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, Ron Perlman, Leonor Varela, Norman Reedus and Luke Goss. The film follows the human-vampire hybrid Blade in his continuing effort to protect humans from vampires, finding himself in a fierce battle against a group of mutant vampires who seek to commit global genocide of both vampire and human races. Blade and his human allies are coerced into joining forces with a special elite group of vampires.
After the success of the original film, New Line Cinema and Marvel quickly commissioned a sequel. David S. Goyer had planned to use Morbius but Marvel wanted to keep the character for a franchise of his own. When Stephen Norrington turned down the offer to return, Goyer personally asked del Toro, as he admired his previous films. Del Toro was a big comic book fan, and decided to accept the offer.
Del Toro was tired of the romantic concept of "vampires being tortured Victorian heroes" and wanted vampires to be scary again. Del Toro chose not to alter the script too much from the ideas created by Goyer and Snipes. According to del Toro: "I wanted the movie to have a feeling of both a comic book and Japanese animation. I resurrected those sources and viewed them again. I dissected most of the dailies from the first movie; I literally grabbed about four boxes of tapes and one by one saw every single tape from beginning to end until I perfectly understood where the language of the first film came from. I studied the style of the first one and I think Norrington used a tremendous narrative style. His work is very elegant". Del Toro usually consulted with Snipes on the script, as he believed he was the best person who knew the character.
The film was highly anticipated, and it delivered by earning $155 million worldwide, del Toro's first film to pass the $100 million milestone. But critical reception was mixed; while the action was praised, others criticized the story and lack of character development.
  • Budget: $54,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $82,348,319.
  • Worldwide gross: $155,010,032.

Hellboy (2004)

"Here to protect."
His fifth film. Based on the Dark Horse Comics character created by Mike Mignola, it stars Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Jeffrey Tambor, Karel Roden, Rupert Evans, and John Hurt. In the film, a charismatic demon-turned-investigator named "Hellboy" works with the secretive Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense to suppress paranormal threats, but a resurrected sorcerer seeks to make Hellboy fulfill his destiny by triggering the apocalypse.
Despite working heavily with Mignola, del Toro struggled in finding studios interested, as they disliked the title, script and Perlman's casting. Vin Diesel was linked to the role when the film was being proposed at Universal Pictures, and Jeremy Renner was offered the "title role" but turned it down due to having no attachment to the source material. David Hyde Pierce was hired to provide the voice for Abe Sapien due to Pierce being a "bigger name" and having a "more recognizable sound". Pierce refused to take credit, perform press tours, or attend the premiere out of respect for Doug Jones.
The film received a great response, particularly for del Toro's style. But that didn't translate at the box office; it hit almost $100 million, which was far below its needed break-even point. As a consolation, however, the film was a massive hit on DVD.
  • Budget: $66,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $59,623,958.
  • Worldwide gross: $99,378,985.

Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

"What happens when make-believe believes it's real?"
His sixth film. It stars Ivana Baquero, Sergi López, Maribel Verdú, Doug Jones, and Ariadna Gil. The story takes place in Spain in the summer of 1944, during the early Francoist period, five years after the Spanish Civil War. The narrative intertwines this real world with a mythical world centered on an overgrown, abandoned labyrinth and a mysterious faun creature, with whom the main character, Ofelia, interacts.
For 20 years, del Toro had a notebook with doodles, ideas, drawings and plot bits for an unspecified film. At one point during production, he left the notebook in a taxi in London and was distraught, but the cabbie returned it to him two days later. Del Toro got the idea of the faun from childhood experiences with "lucid dreaming"; every midnight, he would wake up, and a faun would gradually step out from behind the grandfather's clock.
The film employs some computer-generated imagery in its effects, but it mostly uses complex make-up and animatronics. Del Toro himself performed the noises for the toad. The mandrake root is a combination of animatronics and CGI. Del Toro wanted the fairies "to look like little monkeys, like dirty fairies", but the animation company had the idea to give them wings made of leaves. Disappointed with the subitles for Devil's Backbone, del Toro himself decided to make the subtitles. While the film is titled Pan's Labyrinth in North America, del Toro said the faun is not Pan.
When the film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, it was met with a record 22-minute standing ovation. It received del Toro's greatest reviews and was quickly named as one of the best films of the century, and of all time. The language barrier didn't stop it from finding an audience: it earned $83 million worldwide, making it one of the biggest numbers for a Mexican/Spanish film. It received 6 Oscar nominations, with del Toro achieving his first nomination for Best Original Screenplay. It won for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Makeup.
  • Budget: $19,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $37,646,380.
  • Worldwide gross: $83,863,565.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008)

"Believe it or not, he's the good guy."
His seventh film. The sequel to Hellboy, it stars Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, Jeffrey Tambor, and John Hurt. In the film, Hellboy and the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense must battle a mythical prince who plans to reclaim the world for his magical kindred.
While Hellboy wasn't a box office success, it earned a huge amount of renue through DVD sales. This convinced the producers that there was enough interest for a sequel. After Sony chose to pass on the project, Universal picked it up. Del Toro and Mignola started considering what comics to adapt, before deciding that a completely original idea seemed best for the project. Thanks to Pan's Labyrinth, del Toro didn't struggle in getting the film made on his own terms.
The film received great reviews, and some noted it as an improvement over the original. The film's hype really seemed on point, as the film opened with $34.5 million on its opening weekend, far bigger than the original. However, the arrival of a small indie flick called The Dark Knight on its second weekend heavily damaged its legs. It went from #1 to #5 on just one weekend, falling a disastrous 71%. It never recovered, and closed with $75 million domestically and $160 million worldwide, failing to recoup its $85 million budget. Like the original, it performed quite well on home media. While del Toro and Perlman were insistent that a third film would happen, it was eventually scrapped.
  • Budget: $85,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $75,986,503.
  • Worldwide gross: $160,388,063.

Pacific Rim (2013)

"Go big or go extinct."
His eighth film. It stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman. The film is set in the not-too-distant future, when Earth is at war with the Kaijus, colossal sea monsters which have emerged from an interdimensional portal on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. To combat the monsters, humanity unites to create the Jaegers, gigantic humanoid mechas, each controlled by two co-pilots whose minds are joined by a mental link. Focusing on the war's later days, the story follows Raleigh Becket, a washed-up Jaeger pilot called out of retirement and teamed with rookie pilot Mako Mori as part of a last-ditch effort to defeat the Kaiju and their secret masters once and for all.
While walking on the beach near Santa Monica Pier, Travis Beacham imagined a giant robot and a giant monster fighting to the death. He then came up with the concept of the robots being controlled by two pilots, wondering what would happen if one dies. Legendary Pictures bought his script, and del Toro was fascinated by the concept. When one of his projects was cancelled, del Toro decided to focus on Pacific Rim. He introduced ideas he had always wished to see in the genre, such as a Kaiju birth and a Kaiju attack seen from a child's perspective. At $180 million, it was his most expensive film. He cast many actors based on his familiarity with other projects. For example, he cast Charlie Day because he liked his performance in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. In return, the show got del Toro to play Pappy McPoyle in 2 episodes.
The film received great reviews, particularly for its special effects and action sequences. Although that didn't exactly translate into a box office hit. The film had a modest performance in North America and other territories, which was quite bad considering its budget. And so China came to the rescue; it grossed a huge $111 million in the market, becoming the biggest territory for the film and allowing it to pass $400 million worldwide. So not a bomb, but not exactly a huge hit as expected. Too bad there were was no sequel.
  • Budget: $180,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $101,802,906.
  • Worldwide gross: $411,002,906.

Crimson Peak (2015)

"Beware."
His ninth film. It stars Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Charlie Hunnam, and Jim Beaver. The story, set in Edwardian-era England, follows an aspiring author who travels to a remote Gothic mansion in Cumberland, England with her new husband and his sister. There, she must decipher the mystery behind the ghostly visions that haunt her new home.
Del Toro convinced Universal in greenlighting Crimson Peak, as they kept in touch during the making of Pacific Rim. He said he wanted the film to take the horror genre to its roots, "I think people are getting used to horror subjects done as found footage or B-value budgets. I wanted this to feel like a throwback." He wanted to create a large-scale horror film in the tradition of those he grew up watching, such as The Omen, The Exorcist, and The Shining.
The film fared solid, but not great reviews. While the film was praised for its visual style, it was also criticized for its thin story and weak characters. It also struggled at the box office; it made just $74 million against its $55 million budget. Ouch.
  • Budget: $55,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $31,090,320.
  • Worldwide gross: $74,679,822.

The Shape of Water (2017)

"A fairy tale for troubled times."
His tenth film. It stars Sally Hawkins, Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Doug Jones, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Octavia Spencer. Set in 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, the film follows a mute custodian at a high-security government laboratory who falls in love with a captured humanoid amphibian creature, and decides to help him escape from death at the hands of an evil colonel.
The project was primarily inspired by del Toro's childhood memories of seeing Creature from the Black Lagoon and wanting to see the Gill-man and Kay Lawrence succeed in their romance. After failing to convince the Universal executives in accepting his pitch, Searchlight Pictures got involved. Del Toro cast Sally Hawkins after watching Fingersmith and Happy-Go-Lucky, wanting her to emulate Stan Laurel's performances. He also wanted Ian McKellen to play Giles, as he based the character on his performance in Gods and Monsters. Unfortunately, McKellen was unavailable and Richard Jenkins was cast instead.
The film received critical acclaim, quickly named as one of del Toro's best films. And despite the weird premise, it was a huge success for del Toro, as it earned almost $200 million worldwide, becoming one of Searchlight's biggest films. After winning the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, it received 13 Oscar nominations. It won Best Production Design and Best Score, and del Toro would finally get his first Oscar for Best Director and Best Picture.
  • Budget: $20,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $63,859,435.
  • Worldwide gross: $195,243,464.

Nightmare Alley (2021)

"Man or beast."
His 11th film. Based on the novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham, it stars Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Rooney Mara, Ron Perlman, Mary Steenburgen, and David Strathairn. It follows a charming and ambitious carnival worker with a mysterious past who takes big risks to boost his career.
The film was a huge deviation from del Toro's works, as it features no supernatural or fantasy elements. The novel was previously adapted in 1947, but del Toro was more interested in making a more faithful adaptation. Leonardo DiCaprio was eyed to star in the film, but Bradley Cooper replaced him. Del Toro stated that he and Cooper quickly connected with each other when del Toro met Cooper in the latter's house to discuss the role.
The film received a solid response, although some criticized its length and story. Despite a $60 million budget, the film didn't find an audience, earning just $39 million. Despite that, the film still received 4 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
  • Budget: $60,000,000.
  • Domestic gross: $11,338,107.
  • Worldwide gross: $39,629,195.

Pinocchio (2022)

"Love will give you life."
His 12th film. Based on The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, it stars Gregory Mann, David Bradley, Ewan McGregor, Burn Gorman, Ron Perlman, John Turturro, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, Tim Blake Nelson, Christoph Waltz, and Tilda Swinton. Set in Fascist Italy during the interwar period, it follows Pinocchio's life as he adventures the world.
The film was a lifelong passion project for del Toro, who watched the 1940 Disney version when he was a kid. He loved it, and by his teenage years, yearned to make his own dark version. In 2003, he discovered Gris Grimly's illustrations for the 2002 edition of Carlo Collodi's book, portraying Pinocchio as a puppet with a long, pointed nose and spindly limbs, with gestures that del Toro felt captured the energy of an unruly but otherwise goodhearted puppet. This was the vision that del Toro wanted to create, but he wasn't getting support from the studios in greenlighting the stop-motion project. Fortunately, Netflix saved the project in 2018, allowing him to fulfill his dream.
The film was acclaimed by critics and audiences, particularly for its dark tone. As it was a Netflix original film, there are no box office numbers available. Over its first seven days of digital release, the film logged over 10.91 million hours viewed worldwide. Del Toro won his third Oscar, now for Best Animated Film.

The Future

He's currently filming his new film, Frankenstein, for Netflix. It will star Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz.

Other Projects

He has written some films that he never directed, such as The Hobbit films, Don't Be Afraid of the Dark and The Witches.
He is also an executive producer on films like Megamind, Puss in Boots, Kung Fu Panda 2 and Kung Fu Panda 3. He was also a producer on Rudo y Cursi, The Book of Life, Pacific Rim: Uprising and Antlers.
In television, he created two shows. The first is The Strain, which is based on a book he wrote with Chuck Hogan, and he directed the first episode. The other is Trollhunters, which is based on his novel.

The Unrealized Films

Well, you couldn't make a post on del Toro without bringing up the projects he never got to make. So let's delve into a few of them.
  • Exorcist: Chapter 4 Verse I: Del Toro pitched a fourth Exorcist film to Morgan Creek, which would have seen Father Merrin brought in to investigate the murder of a priest by a possessed child in the Vatican during World War II. Del Toro said that Morgan Creek liked the story, but they didn't want a single exorcism in the film. Oh the irony.
  • Creature from the Black Lagoon: A longtime fan of the 1954 film, del Toro talked with Universal over directing a remake. He envisioned a film which would focus more on the creature's perspective, where the Gill-man ends up together with the female lead. The studio would reject this pitch, although del Toro would use these elements for The Shape of Water.
  • The Wind in the Willows: Del Toro started working with Disney on an animated film adaptation of Kenneth Grahame's novel. The film would have been animated using CGI animation, but the project was abandoned following many delays. He said why he left; "It was a beautiful book, and then I went to meet with the executives and they said, 'Could you give Toad a skateboard and make him say, "radical dude" things?' and that's when I said, 'It's been a pleasure...'"
  • Halo: Del Toro started working with Peter Jackson on a Halo adaptation, with del Toro writing the script with D.B. Weiss. His project envisioned a brother vs. brother story between the character Master Chief and his twin, who sides with the villain. Del Toro would leave to focus on Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
  • Doctor Strange: Del Toro and Neil Gaiman pitched a film to Marvel Studios, wherein Gaiman wrote the script and del Toro would direct. This version would have seen the character as an alcoholic, disbarred physician in the late 1920s/1930s living in Greenwich Village for 90 years without aging. It would have also been heavily inspired by the art of Steve Ditko. Gaiman was especially interested in including the character Clea, but the studio was not interested.
  • The Hobbit: In 2008, it was reported that del Toro would direct a two-part film adaptation of J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy novel. Del Toro envisioned the first film as a direct adaptation of the novel, with the second bridging the gap between The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings films. After spending two years in New Zealand working on pre-production, del Toro left the project due to ongoing delays and was replaced by Peter Jackson. The films were expanded to a trilogy during production, with del Toro still credited as co-writer of all three.
  • Hellboy III: Del Toro has been trying to get a final film made, but is stuck in development hell. His film "was to have Hellboy finally come to terms with the fact that his destiny, his inevitable destiny, is to become the beast of the Apocalypse, and having him and Liz face the sort of, that part of his nature, and he has to do it, in order to be able to ironically vanquish the foe that he has to face in the third film. He has to become the beast of the Apocalypse to be able to defend humanity, but at the same time, he becomes a much darker being." Del Toro said that the project is unlikely to happen, as studios are not interested and also listed the decline of DVD sales (which got the sequel greenlit) as a big reason why.
  • Thor: In 2008, del Toro entered talks with Marvel Studios to direct an adaptation of the character. He said that he loved the character of Loki, and wished to incorporate more original Norse mythology into the film; including a "really dingy Valhalla, Vikings and mud". He would leave the project to focus on The Hobbit.
  • Slaughterhouse-Five: Del Toro planned "a more literal interpretation" of the Kurt Vonnegut novel than shown in the 1972 film adaptation. In July 2013, del Toro revealed that he and screenwriter Charlie Kaufman had planned how they had wanted to adapt the work, though del Toro joked; "How can I commit to it being my next movie until there's a screenplay? Charlie Kaufman is a very expensive writer!"
  • Van Helsing: Del Toro worked on a reimagining, with Tom Cruise attached to star and produce.
  • The Haunted Mansion: In 2010, del Toro confirmed he would make a new version of the Disney theme park ride. He said he didn't want it to be a comedy, emphasizing that he wanted it to be scary and fun. After del Toro submitted the script, Disney liked it, but considered it too scary for kids. Eventually, his version would be scrapped and a new version would be released in 2023, becoming a critical and commercial bomb.
  • Dark Universe: Del Toro got involved in a Justice League Dark adaptation. This version would feature appearances by John Constantine, Swamp Thing, The Spectre, Deadman and others. Del Toro wanted Matt Ryan to play Constantine, feeling the movie and TV show could co-exist. By 2015, he left the project.
  • Silent Hills: In 2014, del Toro was confirmed to work with Hideo Kojima on the ninth installment in the Silent Hill video game franchise. However, the video game was cancelled the following year. Del Toro has since said that he does not plan to work in the video game industry ever again.
  • At the Mountains of Madness: An adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's novella, it has been stuck in development hell for the past 20 years. Originally set up at DreamWorks, it passed to Universal when del Toro had a first-look deal with them. After delays, it was finally announced on 2010 that the film would be in 3D and that James Cameron would produce. Subsequently, he had Tom Cruise signed as the lead. However, Universal shelved the project when del Toro wanted a $150 million budget and R rating. No progress ever since. Del Toro says he hopes to eventually make it, although he is unsure if Cruise will still be part of it due to his age.

The Verdict

Inconsistent.
Del Toro has crafted an impressive resume. Even his weaker works still have their charms. The problem is that he has been struggling with the budgets, and that in turn prevents his films from breaking even. As he said, DVD sales were the reason Hellboy II was greenlit, but it was the decline of that market that made it more difficult to get a third film made. And that's before we even get to the amount of unrealized projects. A unique director that simply struggled in having the box office success he deserves. And that's a shame, as you can tell he is very passionate about his work.
Hope you liked this edition. You can find this and more in the wiki for this section.
The next director will be Todd Phillips. Very fitting, considering we just had a teaser trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux.
I asked you to choose who else should be in the run and the comment with the most upvotes would be chosen. Well, we'll later talk about... Wes Craven. A horror legend.
This is the schedule for the following four:
Week Director Reasoning
April 15-21 Todd Phillips Who's laughing now?
April 22-28 John Carpenter Is that really it? No more films?
April 29-May 5 Danny Boyle It was a long wait, but 28 Years Later is finally happening.
May 6-12 Wes Craven A horror legend.
Who should be next after Craven? That's up to you. But for that week, we have a theme.
And the theme is: Actor-directors. And I'm not talking about directors that occassionally act, some just in cameos. I'm talking celebrities more known for acting, that regularly direct. So there are two requirements here: the director must have a prominent acting career, and he must have directed at least 5 films. That means actors like Kevin Costner, Bradley Cooper, Greta Gerwig, John Krasinski and Jordan Peele are ineligible here.
So what actor-director should be?

2024.04.03 02:35 Intelligent_Toe4030 Ok but how did the Rez police know exactly where the murderer would show up and where he would take Monica?

So they put Monica on a road in the middle of nowhere with a busted vehicle and what? HOPE that whoever stops to help her is the killer?
And how did they know where to stage? Killer could have turned off onto any one of hundreds of desert roads but they just happen to pick the exact area? Even if they used the location of where they found the missing girl's body, there's no guarantee he would use the same dumpsite. Moreover, Moe and his officers would have scouted the area ahead of time in order to stage the ambush, so wouldn't they have discovered all of those bodies laying around before monica and the killer even got there?
And how did the killer NOT see all of those squad cars and horses? That was miles of flat terrain so I can't image where they could have been hiding.
And Moe was already set up, waiting in the prone position with his rifle, so how would he know exactly where the killer would stop and where Monica would run to be in the right range to take the shot?
Was a cool scene but so many questions lol....

2024.04.01 20:34 BobbyYukitsuki Arcane units are the absolute best thing that ever happened to this game.

Love them or hate them, it’s easy to see that the past few years of FEH have swarped™ the game around rather drastically to say the least. The gradual complexity of unit, weapon, and skill mechanics have only evolved into more and more convoluted structures of life, as all gacha do (is this the carcinization of the gachaverse?) to the point where I’d probably retain more information from reading Finnegan’s Wake than I would from reading NY!Nerthuz’s weapon description. And this dynamic, ever-changing LITERACY META has naturally forced players to confront brand-new questions about the essence of our sorry existence within the gachaverse. Only the most intellectually stimulant of FEH’s players have the capacity to truly appreciate these additions to the game, to realize that they’re not just the gacha equivalent of verbal diarrhea—they say something truly deep about life itself.
As one of the most intelligent specimens on this subreddit (many people can testify to this, I’m sure), I myself can personally recollect quite a few pertinent ponderings that FEH enlightened me towards, including but not limited to “hang on, isn’t this tier 4 skill essentially just a tier 5 skill in all but name?”, “it’s been seven years, has u/ptolemy77 finally figured out that the sun doesn’t rotate around the earth?”, “can snake venom give someone a UTI?”, “is Hooters food actually any good, or is it as much of a waste of money as FEH Pass is?”, “Etie only exists to cuck me out of getting Dorothy merges, right?”, “if Ginnungagap’s body is made out of the void, could you theoretically use the nothingness on her body to store your snacks and other miscellaneous items for later use?”, “which of these damage reductions is penetrable?”, “FEH cares so much about the male gaze, but do they care about the male gays?”, “does Gatekeeper’s refined Prf have more lines of dialogue than he does in Three Houses?”, and “did u/ptolemy77 seriously condition me to laugh upon seeing a train station stop in rural Japan?”
(By the way, the answer to all of these questions—in a randomized order—are yes, yes, no but it’s probably pretty close to the truth, not applicable, no, not enough, yes, no, no but that’s probably the least of your worries, not applicable.)
All of the above are questions that I guarantee you I never would have been asking had I not been a filthy degenerate mobile game player. Yet the Fire Emblem: Heroes mobile game isn’t afraid to challenge the conventional way of thinking, to push against the boundaries of how one perceives and engages1 with the world around them… and it’s thanks to that deep, intricate, unorthodox worldview that players like me can uncover the tools we require to become truly enlightened and open our eyes to the truth… the REAL truth, the truth within the infinite which resides beyond time and space.
Not convinced yet? Let’s place a magnifying glass upon one specific new2 feature in particular: the addition of Rearmed Heroes. This particular new feature has been a universal game-changer beyond a shadow of a doubt, only rivaled by Gullveig (whose ass-snakes enable her to simultaneously suck off the entire Fire Emblem Heroes playerbase all at once, which instantly increases FEH’s overall efficiency and profitability by a whopping 888∞%).
It all started on September 16, 2022, the day Rearmed Líf: Arcane Blade was added to the Fire Emblem Heroes game. Líf was truly a trailblazer like FEH had never seen before; after all, he was the first of many heroes whose weapon entitlement scheme blatantly plagiarized the Annie Award for Best General Audience Animated Television Broadcast Production-winning sci-fi steampunk action-adventure television series entitled Arcane: League of Legends (2021).
By now, considering how he’s been in the game for more than a literal year, every single player in the game surely understands that Lîf is one of the coolest, most EPIC characters within the entirety of the Fire Emblem: Heroes game. In terms of OCs, there is absolutely NO ONE who’s got it rocking like he does3 . In fact, the ACTUAL reason why Eitri is a scientist is because she wanted to figure out the two most significant mysteries of the universe: firstly, how Lïf managed to be so cool and awesome without imploding on himself from the sheer weight of his edge handle, and secondly, whether you pronounce his name like “leaf” as in “rhymes with that one catgirl furry from Tellius”, or whether it’s “lift” as in “something lifts up when I see that one catgirl furry from Tellius, and it certainly isn’t my toes”. Trust me, as an unemployed environmental science major, I know what I’m talking about with this shit. I may as well have hopped into the game and asked her myself.
Not only that, but he came out on the same banner as the very first SHEZ! in the game. And it’s an undeniable fact that not many of the Fire Emblem Heroes in Fire Emblem: Heroes can boast such a distinguishedly unique and valorous claim, in the exact same way that less than 1% of characters in FEH can say that they had a banner which was released on September 16, 2022. This man has got it going on like nobody else in the game—there’s a reason “Arcane L˚f” and “Stacy’s mom” have the exact same syllable pacing.
1 Rise from a thousand years ago…
2 well it was new like a year ago… holy shit it’s 2024 can we go back to 2022
3 the only one who comes close to Leif’s sheer aura of SOUL is Luke, because not only is he voiced by the same guy in English, but he’s ALSO a Legendary Hero
Speaking of ancient dates, let’s talk about

01: THE HISTORY

On September 14, 2022, a FEH channel set with loud ass metal music was released announcing this brand blasting new type of Hero. And, upon resting their eyes on this spankin’ fresh reveal, the people of FireEmblemHeroes were collectively blown4 away by this brand-new development. No one was expecting to see a Hero who would survive skill inheritance, so it’s safe to say that the community was collectively caught with their pants down (which were only down in the first place because Monica was in the trailer, but the Lyft surprise kept them firmly planted to the earth).
"I’m honestly really impressed with how generous Rearmed Heroes are. They could’ve made them disappear after inheriting the weapon and none of us would’ve been surprised, but letting us keep them is really cool. A bunch of heroes are gonna love Eljudnir."
"What kind of fuckery is this. This is in no way what I was expecting."
"Can't convince me that this isn't the most poggers new hero type we've ever gotten. Literally the perfect balance of pandering to casual and hardcore players."
"How the hell are Rearmed Heroes even real? I can't believe they let you inherit their skills and the prf weapon without actually losing them. Surprisingly generous move by IS, one of the best things they've introduced in a while."
"Looking forward to FE10 Largo being added as the first “Dearmed Hero”."
And, of course, saving the absolute best for last:
"what"
Well said, good sima’am. There is literally no better way to describe the sensations which surged through my entire body upon reading the Rearmed Lief news. The moment I laid eyes upon this brand new Rearmed Hero, my head erupted with more flames than an entire village’s worth of Gunnthras. I mean, can you believe it? A unit type that actually DOESN’T disappear when they get foddered off? Can you even comprehend such a thing? The me of 2022 certainly couldn’t.
But two enormous parts of this announcement went unanswered—the “why?” and “how?”.
Fire Emblem has, traditionally, always been a franchise dedicated to the art form known as interactive storytelling. Most every feature, from randomized growths to unit identities, were designed with the intent to make every playthrough into a personalized story. The only exceptions to this rule were things that have been ingrained in the formula since the beginning—questions which nobody bothered to answer, like “why isn’t anyone wearing a helmet?” “why do those two shitters from FE1 look so smug?” and “how do I commence fornication with this very attractive PNG?”.
But there seems to be absolutely no logical in-universe reason for Rearmed Heroes to survive the Skill Inheritance process—a process which is considered lethal to most normal Heroes. In fact, it doesn’t even make sense as to why normal Heroes immediately disintegrate upon teaching other Heroes skills, either. Imagine if your teacher explained how to do some differential equation and then promptly dissolved into a fine powder for the class to collectively snort. As awesome and groundbreaking and newsworthy as that would probably be, that would very likely confound scientists all around the globe until about 2044 when they realized it was actually all the doing of Masaya Games trying to hypnotize players around the world to download Langrisser Mobile 3 after its first two releases bombed, likely because neither of them have Arcane Rift.
Now, of course, it doesn’t stop there. Of course it doesn’t stop coming from there alone. I wouldn’t be making this post just to talk about something we all already know, right? Of course not. Contrary to popular belief, I am vastly unfond of wasting people’s time. So let’s move on to…
4 likely the first time many feh players had ever been blown to date

02: THE REVEAL

On October 19, 2022, u/huflit1997 spotted something that had gone unseen by the entire community. Through the incomprehensible, unfathomable power of reading letters on a screen (something completely inaccessible to the masses, myself included) they deduced the MEANING of the WORDS on their mobile device:
"Rearmed heroes in Japanese is "魔器英雄" (Ma-ki eiyu), which can be translated as "Demon/Magician weapon heroes". Which kinda explain why Thrasir thinks arcane weapons are dangerous and why 2 of rearmed heroes are main antagonists."
Doesn’t this feel a little Faustian to you? What a coincidence… that was exactly what was going through my head, too. But as funny as it would be to attribute Rearmed Reef’s power to a passionate night with Formortiis, in reality that has nothing to do with the actual point of this at all.
So the obvious implication here is that these Rearmed Heroes are wielding some kind of weapon that transcends human understanding—something that might be tied closely within the unspoken occult. Chances are, Léif had to do something truly vile and repulsive to obtain the power that he holds now—right? Surely that’s where all these new breeds of Heroes are popping up, right? After all, isn’t “wooo spooky magic shit” the handwaved explanation behind why the baby alts can thoroughly thrash everyone else in the game?
Well, hold your horses, ladies and gennamoing, because absolutely NONE of that is applicable to Rearmed EatsShoots&Leaves. His description states that Thorr’s magic is the source of his powers, but that’s nothing but a huge show of smoke and mirrors on the writers’ part. The special ability of Rearmed Heroes—their capacity to continue existing after going through a life-altering process that would normally eradicate them from this plane of existence—stems from nothing remotely otherworldly. In thinking along those lines, you’ve fallen under the CLASSIC HISTORICAL TRAP of “attributing things you don’t understand to divine intervention”, which is essentially just making headcanons about your god of choice (and as we all learned years ago from a very intelligent person, this is nothing but a perversion of the author’s pure, original intent for their works)
As a matter of fact, one could easily explain the Rearmed Hero effect through quick and easy science… science so basic and comprehensible, in fact, that even the most braindead of unemployed environmental science majors could still grasp and understand it.
NATURAL SELECTION5
Now, as always, it’s prudent to begin this kind of analysis with a definition. And a quick search upon everyone’s favorite reliable database yields the following:
Natural selection is the differential survival and reproduction of individuals due to differences in phenotype. It is a key mechanism of evolution, the change in the heritable traits characteristic of a population over generations. Charles Darwin popularised6 the term "natural selection", contrasting it with artificial selection, which is intentional, whereas natural selection is not.
In other words, natural selection occurs when randomized genetic mutations grant an organism a survival advantage within their home environment, increasing their chances of staying alive and passing down those advantageous traits to their offspring. Over many generations, this process leads to the eventual decrease of specimens in the population who lack the advantageous trait—their chances of survival are lower, after all—along with an increase in the population of specimens who possess it.
Now, with all that said… let’s apply this concept to Rearmed Riff for a moment here. If Rearmed Heroes are the result of natural selection over 81+ generations’ worth of Hero releases, then this implies two unspoken presuppositions about what got them here:
  1. Rearmed Heroes must have an ancestor within the earlier generations of the population. This ancestor likely displays some of the most prominent Rearmed Hero traits—namely, the capacity to evade death—albeit potentially in a more primitive or simplistic form.
  2. Rearmed Heroes’ unique traits (not dying when they are killed) must give them a selective advantage in their home environment, which means that there must be local environmental factors that weeded out the non-Rearmed Heroes and left the Rearmed Heroes alive.
Let’s approach that first presupposition first. Quite frankly, it’s surprisingly easy to trace back Rearmed Twig’s lineage and identify where this unique trait of his first arose. In fact, the true answer to this mystery of the universe was sitting right before our eyes all this time… and they were dangling it so close to us, it’s honestly a shock that no one had pointed it out earlier…
5 This term is also the answer to the never-before-asked question of “what is equally effective at scaring 12-year-olds who didn’t do their homework as it is religious pastors?”. I told you, FEH is second to none at getting us to pontificate things that no man has ever pontificated before.
6 hang on, who in the flying fish filleted fuck spells “popularized” with an s? google tells me they use it in Br•tain, but everyone knows that “Br•tish people” is an oxymoron, so their opinion doesn’t count

03: THE COMMON ANCESTOR

It’s Wrys.
Yeah.
It’s fucking Wrys.
Don’t you look at me with that confused glare. It makes perfect sense if you muster up even a modicum of critical thinking and ponder it deeply enough. So before you accuse this post of violating both submission guidelines and your free time, take a step back and REALLY think hard about this.
First of all, he’s one of the only Heroes who can possibly be at 1 star rarity, and that’s pretty unique, right? Secondly, Wrys’s name in Japan is “リフ”, which translates to “Rif” or… you guessed it… “Lif”. Move over, Gullveig, and say hello to the Infinity King, the man who was the center of attention from day one.
Just as the cycle always returns to the modern day ouroboros herself, all things return to Wrys. It was always about Wrys. Hell, it was probably Wrys who cast that revolving door snake curse on Gullveig, trapping her within the time-loop of questionable writing in the first place.
But if that wasn’t convincing enough, there’s a Hel of a Ganglót more where that came from too. As we’ve already established, one of the most prominent factors within the numbers behind the deaths of salesmen Heroes is the act of Skill Inheritance. In fact, considering how Heroes never die permanently when they are killed in gameplay, it may very well be the only way, aside from merging, that Heroes can actually die for real in Askr.
Going off this information—plus the incredibly obvious fact that Rearmed Heroes have adapted and evolved around the act of Skill Inheritance—it seems easy to infer that Skill Inheritance is the Syndrome of the FEHverse with how good it is at Hero-killing, which means that the Heroes who were less likely to undergo Skill Inheritance were also more likely to survive and reproduce. And why does Riff fall under that category? It’s quite elementary, as a matter of fact: a base Wrys can only be used as Skill Inheritance fodder for staff units. In other words, at base he cannot be eaten by the significant majority of Heroes.
And there it is… the original advantageous trait that eventually led to Rearmed Heroes’ death-defying DNA. This seemingly innocuous perk—one that was barely noticed at all upon the initial introduction of Skill Inheritance—went smoothly under the radar, where it bode its time to refine itself into a more sophisticated and advanced form. You can see this in action even in some of the other early generations of Heroes. Notice how Rhys’s unique trait is also present in Genny as well?
This special power, inherited by Rice, Genny, and the like, gave them partial immunity to the #1 hero-killer itself. Only through the perks that their staff-locked skills gave them did they receive enough of a selective advantage to evolve further beyond.
“Okay, but what about Elise?” you ask. “Doesn’t Elise fall under this classification too?” Well, if YOU want to be the one to write a dissertation on how interspecies inbreeding between Wryses and Elises created the child known as Genny, whose genny-tic material gradually trickled down the pipeline until we got Rief, then sure. Be my guest.
No? Then let’s all collectively deploy a tactical Xander and remove her from the playing field here. ...what the hell has he even been doing since we last saw him in the main story anyways?
Anyways, regardless of those hiccups... the main takeaway from this should be clear as daylight. All Rearmed Heroes share a common set of ancestors, ඞmong whom include Genny, Elise, Masked Marth, and most importantly Wrist. Every existing Hero type who can survive Skill Inheritance can be traced back to one of these if you go far enough.
Also, this implies that Wrys and Lif are the same person, which means Wrys is actually Alfonse. Chew on that one, loreheads.7
7 ...there really needs to be a limit on how much crack I take before I write these things.

04: THE DEEP SHIFT

Now that we’ve handily tackled the first presupposition behind the Rearmed Heroes-natural selection conspiracy pipeline, let’s go back and address the second one. To quote some chickenass on the internet:
“2. Rearmed Heroes’ unique traits (not dying when they are killed) must give them a selective advantage in their home environment, which means that there must be local environmental factors that weeded out the non-Rearmed Heroes and left the Rearmed Heroes alive.”
Now I suppose I already partially addressed some of these factors in the prior section… but a quick peek behind the curtain reveals more than a few holes in this theory.
Units in FEH can have a maximum of six seven EIGHT skill slots now, and one of them doesn’t require skill inheritance at all. And most Heroes come with some skills at base, which means that on average, a Hero only needs to use Skill Inheritance maybe four times to receive a full kit of skills. Even if you wanted to replace a Hero’s entire kit, it would probably translate to a mere six or seven murders total (very few, and very excusable).
So when you really think about it, is Skill Inheritance on its own really so potent of a hero-killing force, or is it more like the Potent Force himself—the 22-Attack wonder whose only feat of slaughter is singlehandedly killing the FEH OCs’ naming scheme? And given the fact that the percentage of Heroes in a particular Summoner’s barracks who partake in receiving skills via murder is probably like 25% or below, is it truly so much of an influence on the population and evolution of Heroes when every predator Hero only requires a handful of sacrifices for their lifelong goals and aims?
In other words, while Skill Inheritance was surely a significant factor in the historical shaping of Rearmed Heroes… there has to be something more to it than just that. It’s never that simple… is it?
Of course not. We need to embla engage on a far deeper level than this alone. Get ready to tear down the gates and storm the castle of truth… because I am about to turn your world upside down with these next few words.

05: THE ROOT SOURCE

On March 3, 2017, Kouhei Maeda and Intelligent Systems introduced Skill Inheritance to the closed ecosystem known as Fire Emblem Heroes; in doing so, they instantly increased the number of Hero deaths by approximately 100%.
For more than a year, they closely observed the effects of this decision beyond time. Then, on October 10, 2018, they introduced a brand new predator to the environment known as Fire Emblem: Heroes. It was an invasive species like no other—a tetherless, gluttonous beast whose talons tore through any and all of the eleven realms’ defenses… whose hunger for the many skills underneath the many Heroes’ skin was without any plausible and logical limit. This repulsive, vile creature, an envoy of boundless voracity, reveled in snuffing out the candle-flame of life with its own hands. Upon setting eyes on its prey, its face would light up with a wicked grin of bubbly childlike glee as it milked the Skill Inheritance system for its own selfish, despicable gains.
Nothing was done to remedy this harrowing error. For all their supposed intelligence, IS did nothing but sit back and watch as the unwelcome intruder thrived in an environment where it was not meant to be… a land where it did not belong. Not only that—it evolved alongside the local species. New strains of this menace were first reported on March 17, 2021… and then again on May 31, 2022.
Players could do naught but stare helplessly as the years they’d burned on this virtual mobile app vanished as quickly as the money they’d spent on it had. And in that hour of twilight, the hopeless turned their heads to the heavens, eyes fogged with misty tears, and asked God Himself to guide them back down the path to salvation.
God, who had left to get milk 23 years ago and had never been seen since, was not actually there and therefore said nothing. (This turned out to be a wholly unnecessary endeavor, seeing as we all got a 5* Ash for free a few years back, so I have no idea what he’s still doing out there.) But regardless of whether he was present in our lives or not, perhaps the universe itself heard the players’ pleas, for soon enough a solution arose… a solution better shown than explained.
So, let’s revisit that precious slice of time… imagine yourself within a Summoner’s barracks on September 16, 2022. Imagine an average summoner, calling a brand-new Rearmed Forklift to his collection. Unaware of the nightmare-inducing threat lurking within the walls of Askr, Life is completely unprepared for any sort of ambush within this holy sanctum he once called home.
And as he walks towards his quarters, the unseen hunter strikes. It’s all over in a second—one moment Liffis is there, and then the beast tramples upon him, devouring him whole as it had done with so many before him. Blood and brightly-colored neon gelatin splashes upon the walls of the castle as it scarfs up every Skill it can out of his still-twitching corpse… and as it rises, wiping its face, it mutters something about delicious sweets under its breath.
Not a single Near Trace 3 remains—not a single leftover—once it is done with him. Its bottomless hunger temporarily sated, the beast turns around, sniffing the air in search of its next target as it feels its brand new Atk/Def Clash 4 and Atk/Def Menace swell up and throb in its chest…
But then something strange happens. It feels it, deep within its very essence—something is very, very wrong. An alien feeling rattles its bones, as if its body is about to break apart and burst at the seams… and to its absolute confusion, its ears are filled with the sound of Heartsteel–Paranoia “Líf Arcane Blade Theme "Writhe" by Jamison Boaz - Fire Emblem Heroes - Tempest Trials Life and Death FEH OST Hel Eir Thrasir”.
Something like this has never happened before. The creature has no idea how to properly manage a scenario like this. Its head grows cluttered and noisy with an emotion it had long since forgotten, an emotion it hadn’t felt since it took its first steps into Askr: raw, unadulterated panic.
And then an Arcane Éljúðnir effortlessly carves its way straight out of its bloated belly, gripped by a skeletal, gelatinous arm. The beast can only stare down at its body in horror as Lîf: Arcane Blade, the first-ever Rearmed Hero, climbs straight out of its stomach, soaked in a thorough coating of the half-digested remains of other Heroes. The chest wound itself is far from enough to kill it… it’s survived much worse after dying and being revived again and again as an Askrian frontliner, after all. No, it’s the sheer shock that truly gets to it—how in Odin Alfaðör’s name is he still alive? No, how is he still in one piece8 at all when he had been diced to bits by its fangs just moments ago?
The beast wraps its wings protectively around its fresh wound and screeches something akin to “××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××××”, which roughly translates to “B-but… but how? I ate you! You’re… You’re dead! You’re gone! This… this is nothing but a harvest festival trick!”
Wordlessly, Lif does a little lowering motion with his free hand, and the sound of the music in the beast’s ears fades just enough for his response to reach it.
“Cease your foolishness, woman-eater. I am in no mood.”
He turns away from Halloween Myrrh with a practiced precision, pivoting directly towards the setting sun as he begins to walk away. The crowd cheers as thousands of Summoners simultaneously realize that a Hero has finally adapted around the greatest evil of all. Behind him, the woman-eater explodes into one Alfonsillion pieces, and the blast is so raucous that God himself hears it from the other side of the world and puts a pause on producing Vestaria Saga III: Celeron Chronicle Chapter 669 to poke his head in, only to see Justin Pierre James Trudeau PC MP staring back at him from across the room with his mouth agape and his authentic Wiener Melange going cold on the desk nearby. And from the heavens above, the pro-Genny-tor of this course of events—who, as one of the five women who cannot be eaten by any Myrrh at base, had secretly been the strongest woman in all of Askr until Rearmed Heroes arrived—watches over the first of her many descendants with warm tears pooling in her eyes, her heart bursting at the seams with the fulfillment she’d been anticipating for far too many years.
It took four years… but the Wrys-Genny evolutionary trail had finally borne edible fruit, and the root of all evils within Askr had finally met her match. And so, on February 2, 2024, when the next version of the woman-eating menace popped into Askr to answer the call of consuming Human flesh (real) on the Day of Devotion, it was greeted not with the usual reaction of terror and glee from Heroes and Ilyana fans respectively.
It didn’t matter that IS had yet again adjusted the local environment to be a better fit for woman-eaters by increasing the number of consumable skills per Hero, a decision likely made in anticipation for this exact addition. The advent of Rearmed Heroes—the existence of a countermeasure—meant there was no longer anything left to fear from that which once ate women without abandon. For humanity has always been resilient, and it was precisely that resilience which allowed it to endure in the face of unstoppable evil, just as it always has.
After all... humans aren't content to be led by destiny. Humans will try to do as much as they can with what little time they have. And as long as that candle-light of fervor burns brightly within the hearts of each new Hero… no amount of woman-eating will be enough to snuff it out entirely.
8 ya yo yaaaaa yoooooo

Serious Discussion

Your Summoner Supported Unit Jumps out of your phone, what do you do?

Title is self explanatory.
For me, i hug Camilla, then take her on a date (after explaining how she is in the real world, as well as explain how times have changed.). Then after the date we would either head to a private hot-tub spa or just take a long bath at home. Within the first year, we'd marry and live a happy life.

2024.04.01 08:16 GoesBeyond Christianity in Twin Peaks

Since it’s Easter, I’ve seen people discussing their favorite films that are about Christianity in some way. This got me thinking of Twin Peaks, and I’m just now realizing how many references there seem to be to Christianity. I’m by no means religious, so take it with a grain of salt, but I find this really fascinating, because as far as I know, Christianity hasn’t really appeared in any other Lynch project; aside from Eraserhead allegedly being partially inspired by a Bible verse.
Twin Peaks however is very overt with its religious references. MIKE references God and The Devil when describing BOB. Laura’s story seems to have many parallels (although possibly unintentional) to Jesus’ life. And obviously, the angels. Ronnette explicitly prays to God to save her, and in response, an Angel is sent to help her.
In a series with its own pretty well defined mythology, that already has beings that are somewhat analogous to angels (The Giant, The White Horse, potentially Cooper himself in some way), the decision to include Christian angels clearly stands out as a very deliberate subversion.
It’s definitely worth noting that Christianity isn’t the only religion prominently featured in Twin Peaks. Hinduism also seems to play a large part, as the Upanishads are directly quoted with Monica Belluci’s dreamer line. I’m personally not very familiar with Hinduism, so I can’t draw as many connections, but I’m aware it, and other religions, are also key to twin peaks, and people who are much more familiar with it than me have made a lot of fascinating analyses of TP based on it.
I’m curious to know what people make of the religious symbolism in Twin Peaks, if anyone has readings/analyses of the show from a primarily religious standpoint, or if there are more possible analogies/symbols that I’ve missed. Again, I’m not personally religious so I apologize if I’ve gotten some things wrong.

Sharing my True Zenoiran teams 9/9, my best team, details inside!
Team: The final team, my best team, the Alain team. The premise of this team is very similar to the Gilbert team but with an important difference, ALAIN is on it. So what’s better than a horse backline? A horse backline with a horse frontline that doesn’t die and has all the synergies of horsies! This team was fast, killed most anything, and was overall my primary strike team. Notable valor skills other than op horsey skill is both of Alain’s skills and sometimes Liza’s
Alain: He’s just one of the best characters in the game because he has an amazing, unique class as well as amazing and unique items. On top of this, he’s a mounted unit so he gets all the synergies with horsies like allowing them to Knight’s Pursuit and such.
Clive and Adel: Any knight could work here but I liked the vibe with them and Monica with Alain. I gave Clive and Adel 4 pp because Alain will allow them to make more Knight’s Pursuits. Note again that they both of blind immunity. Ignore the cancelled Wild Rush on Adel, I think I was testing something at the end.
Monica: similar build to Miriam, but this is the follow-up attack version because she’s getting attack buffed by Clive and Adel so her follow ups actually do good damage. I felt better using the follow up accessory on her than on Miriam because Alain is really hard to kill.
Liza: Liza was here for a couple reasons, none of them important really. First reason was in my tier list post a while back, she was one of the units people recommended trying since I hadn’t used her. I wanted to try her with the mirage great shield and then the kings bow gives additional evasion plus defensive stats. Second was her name and vibe are similar to my current SOs so I wanted to use her in the main team xD
Overall, I’m not really sure how effective she was in this team specifically, but she only died once I think in my whole playthrough because she’s a very self sufficient tank, all the evasion of thieves and fliers with none of the weaknesses. Her extra healing was fairly nice and the build was good, I just don’t know if she does much for this team specifically.

2024.03.25 04:12 yalejosie Why Am I Homesick For A Place I Wanted To Leave My Whole Life?

I am just so incredibly furious with myself. I (20F) spent my whole childhood wanting to leave LA, where I grew up. I hated the city, I HATED the people, and I wanted to get out. I spent my summers with my Grandma in Rhode Island, and my whole childhood I worked my butt off so I could go to college near her, somewhere in New England at least. I saw my childhood as a slingshot to where I wanted to go: away from Los Angeles, to a place of seasons and trees and adventure. Well, I did it. I got stellar grades, and created a resume that could choke a horse; I got in early action to my 2nd place school, and they gave me incredible financial aid so I was in. I go to college in upstate New York, a scenario that would make kid me lose her mind. But I am so, so homesick. I am so incredibly homesick. I miss the beach, and good kombucha, and road trips with my Mom, and watching movies with my Dad, and my precious cat. I miss my friends, and driving through the canyons with the music blaring, and discounted tickets to Disneyland. I miss skating in Venice, and going to the Santa Monica Pier, and Hot Dog On A Stick, and those secret little coastal places only my mother knows how to find. I miss the flowers covering the hills like paintball splatters after the winter rains. I miss the ocean. I miss it all so, so much. I hated living there! I know I would be miserable going back! I know this intellectually! But then why can't my heart get with the program? Why is the place I hated my whole entire life now the place I think of when I hear the word "home"?

2024.03.24 12:09 OrzhovMarkhov A Three Houses Rewrite Concept, Part Five (Crimson Flower)

White Clouds (Black Eagles), White Clouds (Blue Lions), White Clouds (Golden Deer), Silver Snow (Black Eagles)

Chapter 13: Hunting by Daybreak

Byleth awakens in the water after five years of war. Rhea has fled to the Kingdom, and while the Empire and Kingdom warred and the Alliance maintained an uneasy peace, they slept. Now, they find their way to Garreg Mach - their students need them. There, they meet Edelgard who, after a tearful reunion, mentions they should leave - the monastery isn't safe. When Byleth asks why bandits, led by Pallardo, attack - and throughout the battle students arrive. Once the monastery is cleared the students mention have their proper reunion and Edelgard declares that they're going to war for real - starting by pressing into the Alliance.

Chapter 14: Beyond Escape

With Byleth returned, Edelgard explains their next move will be to claim the Bridge of Myrddin in the Alliance. The Black Eagle Strike Force has everyone eager to go straight through Bergliez and strike at the Bridge from where they least expect it - while their armies pin the defenders in from the north, their strike force will cut from Bergliez to the Great Bridge and seize the main fortress.
A: Hidden Paralogue 1 - Foreign Land and Skies. With everyone back together, Petra and much of the strike force set out on a routine trip to Brigid only to find that the Church has sent Thunder Catherine herself to try and strongarm the islands into obedience, and must be swiftly stopped.
B: Battle at the Bridge. Before the main battle takes place, the Bridge's defenders discuss. Edelgard and Byleth lead the strike force to the Imperial side of Myrddin and move to take the bridge. Judith and Ignatz are in position to stop them, and you must defeat Judith to finish the battle. Leonie arrives as a reinforcement, and she can be recruited by Byleth only, and only if the two have reached B support. Acheron died in Chapter 3, and replacing him is none other than Erwin Fritz Gloucester. Erwin leaves if any other commanders are defeated, citing an inevitable defeat. When Lorenz joins you at the end of the battle if you completed Noblest of Nobles, it changes based on whether Erwin died or escaped. In addition and importantly, Lorenz cannot achieve A support or higher with anyone who isn't from the Leicester Alliance if Erwin died.

Chapter 15: The Master Tactician

Most of southern Leicester has suitably fallen in line, leading to an obvious path - next, the Black Eagle Strike Force will blitz western Leicester on their way to Derdriu itself.
A: Hidden Paralogue 2 - Darkness Beneath the Earth. In Ordelia territory, Hubert comes across Thales heading an... experiment. Demonic Beasts are set loose as a part of it and the Empire has to come in and clean up for the Agarthans. Thales clearly intended the mission as intimidation, but both the knowledge of their beasts and the Arrow of Indra are things Hubert acknowledges as ways to get the edge on them.
B: Capturing Derdriu. The former Black Eagles make their way eastward, and as they do, the defenders of Derdriu talk amongst themselves, with Claude insisting Lysithea and Hilda do what they need to protect themselves. Once you enter the battle, you meet Lysithea early on; she can be recruited by Edelgard, Byleth, Hubert or Ferdinand if they've reached C support with her. While Hilda can't be recruited in this chapter, Ferdinand, Dorothea or Caspar will spare her if they've reached C support with her and defeat her, prompting her to reluctantly retreat. Mid-battle, a full cutscene triggers: Holst is standing on the deck of a ship, lamenting Hilda's presence at a battle without him and saying he hopes she makes it out all right while Citizens of the East plays. He notices Derdriu on the horizon, and as he chuckles and asks someone off camera whether he ever expected to see the Aquatic Capital this way, the camera zooms out to show Nader next to him and the ship and several others behind it flying an Almyran flag. The ships appear on the map along with their reinforcements, which now include Holst (a Hero with an Armorslayer and a Killer Axe) - who goes straight for the Empire forces, but like Nader retreats when defeated. Byleth and Edelgard can choose to spare Claude after defeating him, but only if they've reached C support with him.

Chapter 16: Unrest in the Empire

After Derdriu was taken, Edelgard decides it would be best to take a month or two - or even more - and recover their strength while stabilizing the captured Alliance - many of its territories are still resisting to some extent. While the Alliance slowly falls in line, whispers come from the Empire - nobility unhappy with the changes made... and someone who was held in prison escapes, but the news of that only arrives upon return to Garreg Mach.
A: Hidden Paralogue 3 - The Gambler. While wandering in Albrecht, a group of local guards demand the Imperial army's help accosting a strange man who's downing them left and right. Furious, Caspar runs to stop the man - only to find in the village square a brawny man he recognizes as Balthus. At that point, Caspar, Byleth, and the rest of your units need to save Balthus from the pileup of guardsmen, which he explains answer to his mother and caught him a little too close to home. After the paralogue is completed Balthus joins your army.
B: Hidden Paralogue 4 - Insurmountable. A message comes from Holst - putting aside any hard feelings from the recent battle, he needs Edelgard's help. An Almyran force of unprecedented size has arrived at Fodlan's Locket, and the Imperial army is needed to help stave them off. This battle changes significantly based on the events of the last chapter. No matter what, Holst appears as a green unit. If you spared Hilda, she appears as a green unit as well. Rather than Nader, Shahid is leading the invading force, and if you spared Claude, he appears halfway through the battle along with Nader and a few other wyverns as green units as well. Shahid dies when deafeated, and then Claude comes to talk to you if you spared him. Afterward, if you spared Hilda, Holst asks to join your army. If you recruited Holst and spared Claude and Hilda, then Hilda insists on joining as well. Finally, if Claude is present, he finishes the conversation with different statments depending on whether Edelgard hasn't reached B support with Claude or you killed Hilda or she has reached B support with Claude and you spared Hilda - in which case he asks to join your army along with the Gonerils.
C: Hidden Paralogue 5 - Forgotten Hero. In the wilderness of Edmund, a howl draws attention to a forest shrouded in fog. Dorothea recalls a legend of a lost hero who became a monster in the Enchanted Forest of Mircea. Upon entry, your force finds Marianne, drawn alone into the woods by a monster that soon reveals a forgotten tidbit of history. Upon completion, Marianne (with Blutgang) asks to join your army.
D: Hidden Paralogue 6 - The Sleeping Sand Legend (Required Recruit - Claude). While studying the lore of Fodlan, Claude comes upon records of a divine beast hiding away in the Sreng tundra. At his urging your army goes to investigate - finding a figure of legend once they do.
E: Assassins. This chapter begins with Edelgard, Byleth and Hubert in the cathedral, discussing the war, the church, and other things. Hubert mentions that much of the old nobility have petitioned for Duke Aegir to be tried quickly - no doubt hoping to get him released. Then a cutscene triggers. As they talk, Waldemar warps in to the cathedral and informs them that Duke Aegir has escaped, and forces are convening on Fort Merceus from various territories including Fenja and Varley. Edelgard stands up, about to give orders - when an arrow sinks into her throat and she goes down. Byleth Divine Pulses and drags her out of the way just in time for the arrow to sink into Waldemar's chest, killing him. Byleth divine pulses once but isn't able to reach both in time and resigns themself to Waldemar's fate - looking up to where Shamir breaks a cathedral window and jumps out, throwing a rope to the graveyard wall and starting to climb it. Edelgard sounds the church bells and runs out to the bridge, where more assassins are pouring in as cries come from the front - Catherine has broken in the gate. On the map are several NPCs, most of which don't have weapons. You can talk to them, at which point they ask for weapons according to their class and if you have such a weapon, you can give it to them and they'll start fighting. During this battle, mounted classes can't mount unless they go into the stable area. Heavy armor classes are temporarily shifted to Warrior (from Fortress Knight, Great Knight or Emperor) or Brigand (from Armored Knight), without certifying for the class if not already. If you completed The Seiros Snare, you can recruit Shamir by defeating her with Hubert (no support required) or Petra if they've reached C support. Catherine flees once defeated, and defeating both ends the battle, after which news comes: Fort Merceus has been taken.

Chapter 17: Severing the Past

At the beginning of this chapter, Randolph von Bergliez comes bearing news of the fall of Fort Merceus. Edelgard requests that he remain with the strike force and he officially joins your army. As parts of the Empire fall into shambles you must march southward to stop an uprising of cruel nobility.
A: Hidden Paralogue 7 - An Incurable Shut-In (Required Recruit - Monica). While reviewing troop movements, Monica finds something slightly off in Varley territory. She scrounges up Bernadetta and goes to the Varley Manor Gardens. Outside the garden walls stands Viscount Fenja with the key, as well as several archers, pegasus knights and white mages. Defeating Viscount Fenja - who is herself proof of Varley's conspiracy - yields a key to the gardens. However, upon first fighting Viscount Fenja, a smash is heard from around a corner as agents of the Church - with a history tied to this manor - break in to attack Count Varley. If Bernadetta and Yuri reached B support before the timeskip, they're green units rather than yellow, under orders not to hurt her or her allies. If they're yellow, then the first time a blue unit battles with one Hapi retreats. The battle ends only when Yuri, Gregoire and Viscount Fenja are all defeated (Yuri and Ashe both retreat when beaten), or just Gregoire and Fenja if Yuri is a green unit - which results in a tense standoff with Monica before Yuri disappears.
B: Reclaiming Fort Merceus. As you reach the fort, Hubert recommends splitting into different teams and disguising yourselves as soldiers entering under the mysterious faction that's joining Ludwig - which, Edelgard and Hubert realize in disgust, is the Agarthans. During this, Ferdinand splits off, claiming he'll be going in with Ludwig's group from the east, but breaking off from them as well before fading to black. If Berling's Rising Star wasn't completed there's an extra conversation with the city's defenders - who are not happy. After you defeat all the commanders, there's a cutscene of Ferdinand ending his father, and the dialogue after indicates Ferdinand's brokenness as well as, if Berling's Rising Star was uncompleted, Shez's grief before a mysterious figure warps in and offers to help them take revenge.

Chapter 18: Tempest of Swords and Shields

The troubles in the Empire are over - but in the time they've been addressing Fort Merceus, Garreg Mach has come under fire. An army, positioned in Charon, has marched with forces from both Dimitri's army and the Knights, intending to reclaim the monastery. There is little to do save stop them.
A: Defending Garreg Mach. The general function of this chapter is unchanged, but the four generals are very different: Annette (Warlock) replaces Flayn; Ashe (Sniper) replaces Shamir; Cyril (Wyvern Rider) replaces Seteth; and Gilbert (Fortress Knight) replaces Alois. Ashe can be recruited by Byleth, Caspar or Petra if they've reached C support; Annette by Byleth or Linhardt if they've reached B support; and Cyril by Shamir if they've reached B support.

Chapter 19: Lady of Deceit

With the Knights beaten back, it's time to begin marching into the Kingdom. While the public believes the Empire is marching for Fhirdiad, Edelgard instead tells the Black Eagles that they'll be first taking Arianrhod, in the west.
A: Hidden Paralogue 8 - Legend of the Lake. Linhardt has heard rumor of a powerful Sacred Relic underneath Lake Teutates. While fighting in Duval territory, he recommends Byleth go and investigate. He also suggests leaving Edelgard and Hubert behind - because it's a sacred area of the Church, if nothing else. Upon arrival, Byleth finds a mysterious "saintly beast" who seeks to test their strength before granting The Inexhaustible.
B: Hidden Paralogue 9 - Cycles of Nostalgia (Required Recruit - Shez). Byleth and Shez alone devastate an enemy base in an event scene, complimenting one another on their skill. Shez, a little hesitantly, asks whether Byleth ever heard something like a voice guiding and advising them. Byleth shrugs the question off and grabs a room at a nearby inn. They both go to sleep (if they've reached A support Shez cracks a joke about sharing a bed, to a deadpan stare) and then... an event scene triggers, before the map opens. After you control Epimenides, Nemesis and the Ten Elites to fight back Seiros, Cichol, Cethleann, the Wind Caller, and the Immovable along with Wilhelm and the Four Apostles, Seiros transforms into the Immaculate One and, in a cutscene, exhales white fire at Epimenides. Then there's bubbles and the screen fades to black. Byleth and Shez wake up at the same time with a shout, and Shez asks if Byleth had a bad dream. Byleth responds that no - it was a victorious battle, although it looked bad for a moment. Then they agree to hurry back to the main force.
C: The Siege of Arianrhod. After marching westward, you find Arianrhod defended by the Shield of Faerghus himself, along with Gwendal, Count Rowe, Cornelia, Felix, Ingrid and several Titanus like those at Fort Merceus. During the battle, Ingrid can be recruited by Dorothea if they reached B support and Rumored Nuptials was completed. After the battle, a cutscene plays. Jeritza downs a Rowe soldier in Kingdom livery, then seems to freeze. Hubert glances at the sky, nervous, and Edelgard asks what's wrong before pausing as well. Byleth, suddenly nervous because of this behavior, asks the three of them what's wrong as Ferdinand rides up. Hubert immediately orders Jeritza and Ferdinand to begin spreading the news - evacuate the city. As people, both red and blue uniformed, flood out of the city, javelins of light fall. Edelgard watches in horror from a hill, as does Byleth, the devastating blast reflected in their eyes. After the cutscene the same event currently present plays, including Edelgard's decision to blame the Church. She then rallies the Imperial army to march on Fhirdiad.

Chapter 20: Field of Revenge

The Kingdom's army gathers, intending to stop the Empire's northward push at the Tailtean Plains. The Imperial forces continue to push steadily into the Kingdom for their part, finally facing off against Dimitri and his last remaining force and even taking Fhirdiad (though whether the final battle is this month or later depends).
A: Hidden Paralogue 10 - The Mockingbird's Nest. Before the final battle, the Black Eagle Strike Force creeps alone into the capital city of the Kingdom, intending to cut off retreat and make certain this battle is in fact that final. As they arrive, however, the seemingly undefended city spawns assassins from every alleyway - and Hubert recognizes the work of a certain figure from the Academy. Yuri has played his hand. You fight through a seemingly unstoppable legion of rogues to reach Yuri - and upon defeating him can choose to kill or spare him. If you spare him, he negotiates briefly before becoming a green unit - then whether you have Yuri or not, reinforcements appear: Sylvain if you complete this paralogue in chapter 20, or Matthias if you don't. All thieves remain enemies, not willing to turn on the Gautiers as quickly as Yuri is; the conditions change, now requiring you to rout the map with Yuri surviving. Upon completion of the paralogue, Yuri joins your army, citing that it's obvious by now which side will be winning.
B: Clash at Tailtean. Dimitri, along with some of the last Blue Lions, await at the Tailtean Plains to stop the Imperial army from reaching Fhirdiad. Sylvain, Mercedes and Dedue accompany him, and Rhea appears partway through the battle. Sylvain can be recruited by Ingrid if they've reached B support, and Mercedes can be recruited by Jeritza, Constance or Annette if they've reached C support. After Sylvain is defeated or recruited, Kingdom soldiers begin transforming into Demonic Beasts, and Dedue confesses responsibility; Dedue can be spared the fate of turning into a monster by defeating him early, and if Edelgard and Dimitri reached B support then Dimitri, rather than raving, speaks honestly with her, prompting her to show mercy. Rhea, however, flees to Camulus, along with her most trusted associates. The Black Eagle Strike Force is all prepared to chase her... but after a meeting with Lord Arundel, Edelgard has a different goal in mind.

Chapter 21: Enshrouded Memories

Scarcely a month later and Edelgard must provide excuses for why they would let Rhea live longer than the absolute minimum after what she did at Arianrhod. Eventually she caves, and to the anger of the Strike Force has to admit that she lied. With this new information, of course everyone agrees: they must do what they can to stop Thales and his allies. Documents in Arianrhod and Fhirdiad have allowed Hubert to pinpoint the location of a laboratory, from which Cornelia and her allies worked to engineer the Tragedy of Duscur. Edelgard hopes that within that laboratory they can find clues as to the Agarthans' hidden base - and, barring that, eliminate some of their leadership.
A: Delving Deep. Inside the base are many Agarthans indeed. Bias (again), Myson, Pittacus and Anaximandros, the latter two of which die when defeated. Also in the lab is Hapi. Lured here by its connection to her past in hopes of finding out more about the woman who kidnapped her, Hapi is grateful to be rescued no matter what, and - now that the war with the Kingdom and Alliance is effectively over - willingly joins to fight against the Agarthans and the Church if she survives this chapter. Navigating the warp pads of the laboratory proves difficult, but eventually, the Strike Force prevails - and, in the wreckage, finds evidence showing the exact location of Shambhala. Their next target.

Chapter 22: The City Without Light

After intelligence underneath Duscur reveals the location of the Empire's enemies, they must march southward, past the monastery, to Hrym territory. That, and surrounding regions, have fallen under the influence of the Agarthans, and after stabilizing the region around Hrym, Ordelia and Goneril, the Imperial army descends into the darkness to wipe out those who slither within.
A: Stand Strong at Shambhala. Thales, Myson, Bias and Chilon pull out all of the stops to defend their city, releasing Titanus into the streets as Agarthan soldiers rush to stop the army's advance. In the end, you finally stop Thales, and he mocks Edelgard for daring to bare her fangs at them. Hubert teleports in and tries to warn everyone against letting Thales reach that arcane sigil, but it's too late. Cue "you will never... get to enjoy... your victory!" As the javelins begin to fall, Hubert orders everyone onto one of the city's many warp pads - after studying their technology and their teleportation, he manages to warp everyone out. If Monica was recruited, she realizes in shock that something looks... almost like the device used to bring her back. Byleth gains the choice to revive one dead unit, and Jeralt appears as an option as well. If Byleth does so, they, Monica, and the revived unit scramble to escape with the others - then the scene pans over a massive chasm in the ground by the Airmid, water boiling away as it makes contact with the molten earth. Edelgard comments on the horror of the destruction, just like at Arianrhod, before Byleth places a hand on her shoulder and she turns away, stating that the only thing left to do is to eliminate Rhea.
And on that not at all ominous note, the ruins of Shambhala, deep within, are holding a secret pod. The light blinks as two fists punch through... and Nemesis emerges, whispering a single name: Seiros.

Chapter 23: To the End of a Dream

Edelgard returns to the monastery along with the rest of the Imperial army, and begins preparations for an extended fight with Camulus, debating how best to draw Rhea out or force her to surrender. However, reports come in - an army marching from Hrym, northward. At first Edelgard worries Thales may be back, but news comes back as well - a powerful warrior leads them... and he wields the Sword of the Creator. Even Count Bergliez was barely able to hold him off, and he's horribly injured and returning for healing. The enemy - who can only be presumed to be the ancient King of Liberation - is working alongside the remnants of Agartha and marching northward. Edelgard is forced to confront that he, it seems, was not a hero at all - that his alignment with the forces of Agartha was much more willing than hers - and quickly revises her strategy. The Black Eagle Strike Force will try and contain the chaos wreaked by Nemesis and the damage done by the remnants of the Knights of Seiros, and when their enemies meet in battle, wipe out the lot of them in a final fight.
A: A World for Humanity. The Knights of Seiros meet with Nemesis on the plains of Tailtean - as Rhea remarks, it almost seems to be fate. The Imperial Army moves in as well, and the three forces clash. Catherine, Seteth and Flayn stand at Rhea's side, while Nemesis and the Ten Elites defend their own, with no Agarthan support. None of the Church commanders have to be killed to complete the battle, and defeating Seteth or Flayn with Byleth allows them to flee - though, in addition to their current dialogue, Seteth demands Byleth promise not to let a single Elite leave the field alive. The battle music is Melody of Clarity, though if Rhea is defeated before Nemesis, it fades out, replaced by Apex of the World. There are separate cutscenes depending on which one is defeated last; The first, one where Rhea accuses Edelgard of caring nothing for the people of the world, for putting their lives on the line by awakening Nemesis and threatening the Church and with it, Fodlan's peace, for the sake of her own ambitions. Edelgard counters that it will be up to the world to decide if her actions were right - but they will do so without a fell king or an ancient dragon to force their opinions, then she and Byleth have a brief fight scene against the Immaculate One before killing her. The second sees Nemesis recognize Aymr, laugh, and ask if Wihelm's spawn, too, needed the might of "those beneath the world" to fight back against the monsters. He suggests Edelgard let him do what is needed, and he may grant her mercy. Edelgard responds that by now, she sees only one monster here, and once again, she and Byleth have a brief fight scene against Nemesis before she buries Aymr in his chest. At the end of each scene, Byleth realizes they're badly injured - either looking down to a stomach pierced by a dragon's talon, or the tip of the Dark Creator Sword. Byleth collapses, and Edelgard looks away from her victory to rush to their side. She finds they have no heartbeat, then Sothis' Crest Stone disappears and their heart begins beating again. Back to Edelgard and we see the wound disappear as she raises her head incredulously. Cue the ending crawl, battle data, and S support scene. In the endings, if you spared Dimitri, he has ending cards as well based on whether or not Dedue turned himself into a monster.

2024.03.22 13:19 Rimp3282 Monica-SMH

First, I want to say I started this show a week ago and I’m towards the end of season 4. I have to say I love it and am looking forward to watching the spinoffs, 1883 and 1923. In Season 4 Episodes 6 and 7, Monica is extremely irritating. TBH, she’s been irritating the whole show for me lol. But specifically in these episodes Kaycee, who is the Livestock Commissioner, is tasked with tracking some stolen horses from the Indian Reservation. He finds out episode 6 the horses belong to the family of the Native American lady that used to work on his father’s ranch. Monica is blatantly jealous and keeps prodding Kaycee about her. What I find so dear is how Monica, however, is the one that was making out with another guy when her and Kaycee was separated. Kaycee was faithful to their marriage when he was separated and wasn’t looking at any other women. However, Monica nearly had sex with another man but now she’s jealous of this other woman and keeps bothering Kaycee about it lol. It’s so utterly hilarious and ridiculous but I can appreciate the realism in this situation as it really is how most women are lol. I have other issues with Monica but this one is the most blatantly hypocritical one lol.

2024.03.19 16:36 Caelcryos (Spoilers) Banners to Save For

So I've noticed a fair number of posts from people wondering when a certain banner is coming or what they should be saving their gems for. I figured I could manage to write up a quick list of the up-coming banners and when I expect them to hit and maybe it would be useful to someone else. Feel free to add anything if I missed something, this is mostly my personal list. And obviously global changes make everything subject to change.
All information taken from https://nao-romasaga.github.io/stylecheck.html if you want to see all the upcoming styles and don't mind a lot of Japanese.
Banner: Tatyana/Charl/Byunei
JP Release: 9/20/23
GL Estimated Release: 3/21/24
Why: Tatyana is THE queen of DPS and will be for a couple months. Absolutely ridiculous damage. She also has decent sustain, making her the go-to damage unit for hard challenges where Blunt is an option. Charl is also a fantastic unit, although his lifespan wasn't nearly as long and spear is a bit more saturated than Clubs. Byunei isn't a bad style to pick up either, but with Staves and Slash being what they are, she didn't make much of a splash.
Pull Recommendations: Make sure to get Tatyana if you can, Charl and Byunei depend on your roster, but don't be sad if you get them.
Banner: RS3 Katarina & Khalid
JP Release: 11/1/23
GL Estimated Release: 5/2/24
Why: Don't be fooled by the name of this banner, Monica is the prize here. Monica is a top tier support that was used for a bunch of hard challenges, offering buffs, healing, and BP reduction. Also, she has a horse. She's also accompanied by her brother Mikael, who isn't nearly as indispensable, but is a SSS-tier farmer and will be for a long time. Khalid and Katarina are also here, but who really needs more Slash DPS? Still, they're good units, making this another banner where no unit is bad to get.
Pull Recommendations: Pull for Monica and hope you get Mikael. Personally I wouldn't pull just for Mikael unless you don't have Merlot-Syrah or have gems to burn, but he is definitely worth it as the future of grinding. Veterans can skip Khalid and Kat without worry.
Banner: 5th Anniversary Boss Banner
JP Release: 11/27/23
GL Estimated Release: 5/28/24
Why: God tier shadow team leader Saruin. God tier farmer Orlouge. Also Firebringer is here. This banner doesn't need a lot of explanation, it's the update for Saruin and it brings him back to meta level strength. Orlouge is a really solid shadow unit who excels at grinding for both Dark and Fire. Firebringer is definitely the weakest of the three and isn't really better than his previous style. He's a decent support unit for Fire squads, who gets better if you can inherit Servant Regression from his first style. Also offers Servant Emergence (S2) for his first style if you'd rather have a damage unit. He's not bad, just not good, especially not worth it if you didn't get his first style.
Pull Recommendations: Weirdly, I'd say Orlouge > Saruin > Firebringer. Saruin is an amazing unit, there just isn't really much content that required him. Still, he is VERY good. Orlouge there's just not really a replacement for him. I would recommend shooting for both, but might not be worth a full 45k for a pity. Firebringer is skippable.
Banner: 5th Anniversary Leon
JP Release: 12/1/23
GL Estimated Release: 6/4/24
Why: Leon. Just Leon. When he arrives he forces his way into every high difficulty squad you have. So much passive healing every turn, plus buffs and BP recovery. I could talk about Bear, who is basically the updated Julian, but counter tanks just aren't what they used to be. He's still the silver medal though.
Pull Recommendations: Pity Leon if you have to. Everyone else on the banner is skippable, but if you get Leon on your 15th pull, dump your medals on Bear.
Banner: 5th Anniversary Shirei
JP Release: 12/6/23
GL Estimated Release: 6/6/24
Why: It has Kihachi, Shirei, and Liam. You know this banner is going to be stacked. Not much to say here though, they're just updated versions of the three characters doing updated versions of what the three characters do. If you've played with their existing styles, you know what to expect. What you pull for depends on your roster, but all three are top tier at what they do.
Pull Recommendations: Kihachi > Liam > Shirei. Kihachi is Wolverine, she's simply the best at what she does. Liam is good, but he's competing against Tatyana for Blunt and even by 5th Anni, she's still unbeatable. His stock rises if you missed Tatyana though. Shirei is trying to compete with Monica and Leon and he suffers for it. He's still amazing, but not game changing.
Banner: SaGa: The Stage, Reforged Bonds, Seven Heroes Edition
JP Release: 3/12/24
GL Estimated Release: 9/12/24
Why: A recent banner in JP, this one is making massive waves and changing up a lot of team building. Wagnas is a godly counter tank, Noel is a OD enhancing damage unit, Dantarg is an insane team leader for boosting damage with BP support, Bokohn is a really unique OD support unit, Rocbouquet is a really powerful OD damage dealer, Kzinssie is a really powerful jammer with loads of status ailments, and Subier is terrible! Well, kind of. There's just no squad for Subier. He's not THAT bad, but compared with the rest of the banner, he's just really awkward and only really works on Cold teams. Which aren't really a thing. But the banner has INSANE value with a 7 unit banner and 6 out of 7 units being meta defining. Definitely save some gems for this one.
Pull Recommendations: Dantarg = Wagnas > Bokohn > Noel > Kzinssie > Rocbouquet >>> Subier. Although that's likely to be controversial, I think Dantarg and Wagnas are must pulls. Bokohn is so unique, I think you'll kick yourself for passing them up. Noel and Rocbouquet are mostly damage units, but Noel offers some utility, whereas Roc is pretty selfish and the newest Jo comes out right after her and seems to be better. Kzinssie is a niche swiss-army knife. And Subier... You're going to be drowning in Subiers you didn't want or need by the time you finish pulling for everything else.
And that gets us pretty much up to current releases in JP. Real Queen Jo is looking very promising for the current banner, but we'll have to wait and see.
For anyone who has read this far, thanks! I hope it was useful. I know I skipped a bunch of good units, like Robin and Fat Robin, Final EmperoFinal Empress, Hana, and even the Healer Tatyana styles which are very good, but just less mandatory. I tried to avoid listing banners that are mostly just Remembrance fodder, hence why I didn't mention Ellen or Sif, despite them being favorite units of mine. But if you disagree, feel free to share down below, maybe it will be a useful resource for people!
