I don’t think we’d need high stimulation…I think she’d be fairly sensitive to stimulation and is pretty aware of her surroundings/reactive, which I read means a lower stimulation would be fine (?). I like the hands free option but not a deal breaker. I think either 1/2 - 3/4 mile range would be plenty for us. I originally liked their new carabiner option but it’s not fully waterproof.

Hello, i’m making this post and will update it accordingly to share, so others have another resource to read/look into, and maybe feel hopeful about their situation. This will probably be a lengthy post so i apologize in advance.
For some background, i’m a 23 year old male, slightly chubby/thicker, i’ve been competing in powerlifting and doing strength training since i was about 15, and very recently, started experiencing some ED with my partner.
So far it’s happened twice with me. The first time I had figured i was just tired in the moment, i had already taken my melatonin for the night and was half asleep when we decided to have sex. Mitchie @_misomelon, a finance and career content creator who just moved to NYC, posted a tiktok/reel yesterday where she went to try out Krystal Oh Nails. She regularly does things like this and asks her audience if they would pay x price for x service/product. This review of Krystal Oh Nails was pretty neutral. She mentioned that a lot of other Asian American CC’s go there and rave about it (most famously the Ha sisters and the Alexander sisters) so she was excited to try it out. She loved the ambiance of the place and the nail care her tech did but mentioned that she didn’t quite love the end product and for a price tag of $150 she was eager to see if the nails lasted 4 weeks or longer. Mitchie’s audience said $150 was too high but from what I saw, there was no backlash on the actual Krystal Oh Nail account so it’s not like this sparked a hate train towards the business.

Mitchie responded kindly and said it must have been a misunderstanding because Mitchie had proof that she paid $148- which made her round up to $150 in the video. Krystal Oh then posted on her personal TikTok account going after Mitchie and complained about how people do not respect these services and their prices. The comments were widely making fun of Mitchie and she ended up privating her video because she didn’t want people to come after her or the business and again, kindly said in her comments that running a business can get very personal so she completely understood where Krystal was coming from and that everything was just a misunderstanding.

Started with kettlebels a month and a half back (first swing form check here). I got bored with S&S so i now do something like warmup + 30 min EMOM: 10 swings, 10 ABC, 10 something else. Only have two 16kg bells, so that's what I use. I do this 1 or 2x a week to go along the 3 to 4 running training I do. Meaning, main sport is running recreational\ regional races and trails I do without any competitive objective.
None the less, kettlebells are now my favourite stregth(ish) training to go along the many km/week I was already doing. Week core and lack of explosiveness brought me here and I intend to keep at it. I am training for my first marathon which I will be running early November.
Anyway, please help me improve form on these exercises: swings on the left video, cleans on the ABC and lastly snatches on the right video.

swing: need to bring hip more to the back so I can thrust better
clean: not sure, but kind of feels right

Hi all, and apologies if this has been asked for many times. I researched about this topic already but I still couldn't make up my mind.
I happened to come across two similarly priced MacBook Pros, one with 14" M3 Pro 36GB RAM and 1TB SSD, and the other with 16" M2 Max 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD.
My current use case isn't heavy at all, which I know can be accommodated by an MBA. However, I'll be leaving my current 8–5 office job to do something else. I will do some learning about AI processing but not about training ML models using millions of data, as well as doing a bit of video editing (not pro grade, where every second counts) and VM.
I'm not a digital nomad or professional videographer or photographer, so I won't be on the road all the time but will be traveling once every month or two months. I like the screen real estate of the 16" and I don't mind the weight, but of course, the portability of the 14" would be appreciated. Understand that both elements can be accommodated by the 15" MBA. I also have an iPad Mini 6 and a 12.9" iPad Pro M1 as my companion devices.
Battery life would be important, although with the Apple silicon, they're all having a great battery life, and it won't harm having a good battery life that can last for 8 to 10 hours without access to power. Not sure if this part is too greedy and it's a nice to have only. I wanted my device to last about 4 to 5 years, but if I sell it after year 2 or 3, at least the device would still retain some residual value.
I will need help/advice/suggestion on the performance side, and factoring all of the above. Would appreciate any feedback and suggestions!

So basically, after this summer I (18f) enter the university to start a graphic designer degree. It is something I wanted since I was in middle school. My artistic skills were always good and I never questioned the fact that my job will be related to art. Now, the thing is... Some of you might know me here. I have posted about the creation of the tabletop game Goblin Auction. This post is meant to be an overview of what I did to create my game, market it and start a Kickstarter for it. Spoiler alert, the Kickstarter did not reach its funding goal and I will also go into what I learned, what I would do instead and what is next for my specific project. I hope you can glean something from my experience if you are also going to games yourself and thinking about self-publishing.
I worked on the creation and marketing of Goblin Auction from about August 2023 to April 2024. That is about 8 to 9 months of really putting in the hours and being serious about game creation. I started as anyone should. Some basic printed cards and components and just playing the games with friends on a regular basis. I honed the project to a point where I had the basic idea of what I was going for and I could move on to the art. (Note: I understood that the game would likely go through many changes before the end. This may require me to redo art or change some significant things, but for personal motivation, starting the art and getting some semblance of what the final game would look like was important to me. Also, starting art and putting out posts can start accruing more attention than just a text post about a game’s creation.)
I have the luxury (or maybe not haha) of being an artist and trained in creating illustration. I didn’t have to pay for someone to design my game for me so the majority of the time spent on the game was spent with me drawing. Art, in my opinion, is the best way to market your game. A good looking and polished product is always better than a good concept in text format, although preferably you’d want both. With drawings I was able to start posting about my game. I felt like this was the best course of marketing for the project initially that costs no money and I could record speed art timelapses and post progress in stages to get feedback from a growing community of people.
Throughout this process, I was posting on mainly Reddit and Instagram. I had a YouTube and posted sometimes to it but not often and everything was mainly art. Retrospectively, I think what would have been a better idea was creating a dev log of how the game is going, what part of the process I am at, showing off the game’s core mechanics and new abilities and combos I was working on. It would give people a better sense for the game’s mechanics beyond just the flashy art as I found that, towards the end, the main thing that I didn’t feel like I conveyed well was how the game was played.
I eventually tried to start branching to new platforms. The one I really liked and found the most value from was Discord. I set up a server, just a general chat and a voice channel and started getting people actually interested in the game interacting there. I think what I wish I would’ve done is started seeking out as many communities that already had my target audience, tabletop gamers, and mingled there more. I also tried to establish myself on BoardGameGeek, but I found it unnecessarily un-user friendly. I have heard from many people that it is the hub for many people when it comes to tabletop gamers, but it was unnecessarily complicated to create a game page and designer page and even understand what the best course was when it came to even using it, so I abandoned it altogether. Not sure if that was the right move and I do think that it may be something I need to really crack down on and understand when moving forwards.
Then came finding a quote and the Kickstarter. I found a quote from Panda Game Manufacturing for about $8000 for 2000 units with the idea that international shipping would cost $2000 and I personally added a buffer of $2000 to be safe for a total of $12,000. In hindsight, this was wayy too high. I saw big projects get funded and assumed if I had a good product and did my job, that it would be enough to fund. And I still think this was possible, but I had to do a lot more advertising wise to get over that hump (advertising is not my strong suit, so admittedly this was the hardest learning curve I had to overcome). Anyways, long story short, the Kickstarter didn’t get funded, reaching only about 29% of the final goal, which I will emphasize is a LOT and I am very grateful for everyone who did actually contribute and sorry that the full vision wasn’t realized into a product.
So, what have I learned?

• I learned that I need to stop thinking so big so early. Of course, the dream should be to go into bulk manufacturing and I’m not saying I never will do that, but for a first game with a growing community, runs of a smaller amount of units, therefore a cheaper funding goal would be better, and if I exceed that goal by a large margin then I can talk about quoting for a larger amount.
• Advertising should NOT only be done through free means. It can only get you so far to try and adhere to every subreddit’s guidelines on self promotion and showing off what you have before you’ve exhausted everyone that’s going to see your product. I think that if you’re serious about tabletop game creation, you should understand that it will cost some money. Of course a huge savings of mine was doing the art myself, but I should have had a plan for marketing and budgeting that out to begin with before I pressed the launch button. I started to go through Meta advertising and paying to boost posts on Instagram, but I think I should have done that before the campaign started and used that follower count on the pre-launch page to gauge the general interest for the product.
• In terms of paid advertisement as well as resources for better looking advertisements, I should have gotten a few prototypes made, done some photo shoots myself and also sent out copies to board game reviewers and streamers to try.
• I should have created specific video trailers and explanation videos. A “How to Play” video was definitely a MUST that I did not create. Beyond that, little posts about card interactions and different strategies in the game would’ve been a great idea to boost engagement, especially releasing that over a planned period of time to always have something new to post about.

And what’s next for Goblin Auction?
I have heard that a failed Kickstarter is the worst outcome for up and coming games due to image and perception of the game. I personally take it as a big lesson and don’t have any plans of giving up just because my first try didn’t go as I wanted.
For Goblin Auction, the game is not dead to me. It just needs more work. More tiers for Kickstarter than just “Base Game”. For the second launch I will be creating new expansions. An Orc expansion that allows for PvP combat, and a Gremlin expansion that allows for co-op gameplay and a variant Hut deck that allows for different decisions when getting victory points to win the game. I would create all this before re-releasing as well as seeing about trinkets and ad-ons to give backers better options and more to have a more well-rounded Kickstarter experience. This also includes those How to Play and explanation videos that I had been avoiding before.
For me personally, though, these new expansions won’t be immediate. I will take my time in creating something that truly is worth investing money into, like was my mindset with the original base game of Goblin Auction. I also will not solely focus on Goblin Auction and pursue some other game ideas that I have had for a while. This is all happening outside of my day job, so it definitely is going to be a long process, but I am truly excited to show off the ideas I have had, and to make more games!

About six months ago, I watched a "4 disturbing stories" type video on YouTube, but I can't recall the creator. One story was about a man’s older relative in post-Soviet Ukraine who was approached by a creepy old woman at a train station late at night. She offered him a place to stay, and he accepted despite her odd behavior. At her house, she made him soup and led him to a room. He then realized the woman was actually a man. Locked in the room with barred windows, he found a dead body under the bed. To escape, he placed the body on the bed and hid underneath. When the old man returned and beat the body with a crowbar, he left the crowbar behind. The man used it to pry open the windows and escaped. I've been searching for this story but can't find it. Any help?

New to working from home, need some recommendations on a Windows laptop that can handle lots of web browsing, Adobe Creative Suite, and video conferencing. I'll be setting up a docking station of some sort, big or multiple monitors, sit/stand. Need recommendations on all items to buy - willing to spend more when it's worth it but definitely price conscious.

  First priority is that doesn't slow down my work productivity - I am a Google Suite user so need a laptop that can handle switching between a LOT of tabs, including graphic design and video editing on Canva and ideally Adobe Creative Suite. My current desktop freezes on me and that interrupts my train of thought and productivity.
  

Mostly it'll be used at home so not particular on battery life, durability, or even the size/quality of the screen (I plan to hook it up to a docking station with multiple monitors or a widescreen 4K monitor for any serious design projects).

• How important is weight and thinness to you?
  Not very, but would be nice to be able to fit in my "personal item" backpack when I fly a budget airline.

En fait j'ai des problème avec ma mère depuis toujours mais je sais pas si elle a raison quand elle me dis que c'est ma faute et mon comportement.
pour mettre dans un contexte, je suis née sans père, dans un foyer ni pauvre ni riche. ma mère gagne assez pour vivre mais pas pour avoir des chaussure de marque ou des trucs comme ça (non pas que je m'en plaigne, c'est pour mettre dans un contexte. si je veux vraiment quelque chose de marque je peux très bien me le payer toute seule.) et on a souvent déménager a cause de ses travails car elle ne trouvais pas de cdi. et je suis une fille;
depuis que je suis petite j'ai vécu des choses étrange avec elle.. ce n'est que mon avis mais elle a toujours été violente. par exemple je me souviens très bien d'une fois ou elle a fermé la porte qui menais au salon avec moi derrière; pour tapé mon chat, atteint de la VIF, car il avait fait une bêtises. (il me semble qu'il avais fait pipi sur le canapé). Mais en disant tapé je parle de tapé a l'entendre miaulé de souffrance. Je pleurais derrière la porte mais rien y faire elle a continuer. cette évènement est le premier marquant donc je me souviens encore.
je pourrais dire des tas d'exemple de ce genre. mais le problème et telle que parfois, on me dis que ce que ma mère fait est inacceptable , mais moi je ne le vois pas. Par exemple encore, je me souviens d'une fois ou j'avais dis a ma copine que ma mère me punissais de nourriture, et elle s'emblait choqué de ça.. aujourd'hui encore je ne comprend pas pourquoi. Il y a sans doute des tas de personne qui vive la même chose voir pire.. pourquoi être choquer?
Avec ma famille il y a toujours eu un grand écart. disons que ma mère et moi sommes un peut les cygnes noirs.. Je ne sais pas ce qu'a fait ma mère; car ma famille n'est généralement comme ça avec personne; mais je sais qu'elle n'a pas du être cool. aujourd'hui en grandissant j'arrive a avoir quelque info par ci par la sur ce qu'elle leurs a fait. j'ai donc subit dans mon enfance une grande pression et des choses m'était demander que mes cousins et cousine du même âge n'avait jamais fait. Malheureusement je l'ai très mal vécu sur le moment et ça a crée de nombreux problème de confiance en moi. (mais malgré tout je reste super reconnaissante envers eux car il m'ont appris a me battre pour moi même et me débrouiller seule). quoi qu'il en soit voici le principale :
Tout a commencer quand on a déménager la ou je suis actuellement vers Marseille. en 6eme. je m'embrouillais avec ma mère car je commençais a me défendre de ses agression constante. agression physique. elle me tapais dans le ventre jusqu'au sang avec son pied. me hurlais dessus. me giflait devant mes amies... Enfin a l'époque ça allait.
un garçon est arriver dans ma vie. début 5ème. l'amour fou réciproque. mais ce garçon s'est vite mis a me parler de chose.. déplacer.. et de fils en aiguille ils s'est retrouver a me forcé a avoir des rapport sexuel avec lui dès qu'on ce voyais. enfin 2 ans après un vrai garçon est venu me sauvé de ça. qui est aujourd'hui mon copain actuelle et depuis 2 ans bientôt. mais durant les deux ans avec mon agresseur, qu'on appellera J, j'ai vécu d'un autre coté un enfer a la maison, et par la suite au collège. J m'as fait dire a ses copain qu'on le faisais, car, en 5ème, quel chance de le faire! sauf que cette acte a été la pire erreur au monde. car en faisant ça je me condamne moi même. comment porter plainte contre quelqu'un si on a dit a tout le monde qu'on le voulais ? et puis même moi a l'époque j'avais fini par croire que j'amais ça. mais attention ! funfact ! J ne voulais pas ce protèger et faisais la technique du retrais ! et bien évidemment "si tu tombe enceinte je me suicide". ENFIN, J a été une dure période de ma vie que je ne peux même pas confier a ma mère. je lui ai demander de voir un quelqu'un, lui disant que c'était dur avec lui, sans dire ce qu'il m'avait fait. mais elle ma juste répondu "ouai, t'a toujours des problème quand on s'embrouille" "tout ça parce que t'a plus ton tel" ou la fameuse phrase "ça fait deux ans, passe au dessus". ( peut être me direz vous que si je lui en parlerai ce serai mieux. oh oui, on a déjà parler de ça. si je me fait violée elle me force a "porter plainte, que je le veuille ou non". vous avez donc compris.. l'erreur qu'il ma fait dire a tout le monde que je voulais.. ça m'en empêche.. et puis même je ne veux pas être forcé a porter plainte.. j'ai besoin de passer a autre chose et pas retomber dedans)
et donc, si je parle de J ce n'est pas un hasard. car durant cette relation ma mère avait la fâcheuse manie de me mettre a la rue dehors, a minuit, et parfois en pyjama et sans chaussure, dans le froid hivernal! et donc je me retrouvais a aller soit chez J (J qui me violais donc ensuite) soit a la police. aha. la POLICE. parlons de eux. (si jamais il a y des policier, je ne généralise pas, j'énonce les fait, je suis sur que vous êtes génial!) j'ai porter plainte 2 fois contre ma mère, en sang, gelé, et avec des preuves contre elle. sauf que ma mère qui pleure est la plus forte des mère. et je suis reparti sans rien, ma mère a mes coté, me disant "pour qui tu me fait passer, un monstre!". et apres 1 an.. la police l'a envoyer chez le juge ! merci! aha...merci...? eh non, encore une fois elle m'a dis que le juge lui avait donnée raison; que j'était en tord. aller dire a une gamine de 12 13 ans qu'elle est en tord de ce plaindre d'une mère violente.. je n'ai jamais eu le droit a une psy mais sans effort je peut dire que je suis tomber de ce qui ce rapproche le plus a une dépression.
mais depuis l'événement du juge elle ne ma plus tapé. noon. elle me laisse juste a moi même. mes repas sont tous industrielle. ou alors elle commande Deliveroo ! le midi je rentre et elle me dis "Ya du tarama dans le frigo". un plat très consistant oui. elle n'a aucune conscience de ce qui est bon. je lui ai fais la remarque mais "ya des légume dedans".. j'ai un très mauvis rapport a la nourriture. déjà que depuis petite j'ai, a cause d'elle, toujours trouver mon corps trop gros (je suis tomber en dessous des 45 kilos pour 1m70, j'était pas la plus grosse..) car elle me dis souvent "je veux pas que tu finisse comme moi" "tu bouffe que des gâteau" "tu as vue tes joues?". hilarant quand on voit son physique qui doit largement dépasser les 130kg.
Le pire c'est mental. les insultes, méchanceté, violence verbale.. Je me sens comme une merde face a ça.. je me sens manipuler car je ne vois même pas le mal, j'ai l'impression d'être ingrate. je crois que même en écrivant cela j'ai l'impression d'abuser..
Ma mère est disons.. une enfant. elle fait des caprices : "NON! je veux manger mc do ce soir!!", parle comme un bébé en ne mettant jamais de sujet dans ses phrases "ai fini, ai ranger les course, ai faim, manger pizza ce soir ?" elle est colérique, impulsive et ma famille a des gros doute sur la bipolarité (je ne donnerai pas mon avis je suis pas médecin). ET avec tout ça, ma mère en plus sais tout! avec sa fameuse phrase rabaissant "t'a tout vue t'a tout fait, t'es née avant t'a grand mère". et quand ça va pas il y a les "études".
mise en contexte, on était en train de parler de viole justement et moi je lui dis "oui, c'est que mon avis, mais une personne violée a le droit de ce sentir vierge, car pour moi en théorie, au moins mentalement, elle l'est encore" (je ne veux pas crée de débat je raconte juste) car jusqu'à preuve du contraire je suis bien placé pour en parler. et elle me dis "non, aujourd'hui les études on prouvés que les personnes violée qui ce sentait encore vierge mentalement ne pouvais pas passer au dessus de ce traumatisme". ou encore j'avais envie de vomir et elle me dis en rigolant "vomis, si ton corps veux vomir c'est que tu dois" je répond donc en rigolant "oui sauf si c'est de l'acide ou des produit chimique!" sur quoi elle enchaine "arrete de te croire supérieur, les études on prouver qu'il fallait vomir de la javel ou des produit dans le genre". enfin vous voyez quoi..
Elle hurle tout le temps, et j'ai un probleme d'hypersensiblité auditive, de phobie sociale et de misophonie (La misophonie est une aversion intense et irrationnelle envers des sons ou bruits spécifiques. Les patients concernés évoquent souvent des symptômes comme une anxiété importante, une irritabilité ou encore un dégoût face à certains sons.) : "encore un problème de la petite princesse, la réalité des choses c'est que c'est parce que je suis ta mère que tu supporte pas ça! voila tout!" je sais qu'on me dis souvent que c'est rien, mais c'est un reel problème qui me handicap durant toute ma vie. (pour la phobie social, petit moment marrant, je n'arrive toujours pas a dire bonjour au parent de mon copain ! et il doivent me penser très mal poli aha, la plus part du temps je les regarde, souris et fuit)
dernier point, mon contrôle parental trop TROP strict. Je fini a 17h30, généralement je rentre a 18h, fait une pause de 15 minutes et commence mes devoir. problème ? je n'ai plus de telephone a partir de 18h30. elle me demande de regarder des video, d'aller sur pronote ou des chose dans le genre quand je ne comprend pas, mais je ne peux tout simplement pas. j'ai 16 ans et je vais etre obliger de redoubler a cause de ça. je fais de mon mieux mais j'ai des problème d'orthographe (tout mes prof depuis ma maternelle supplie ma mere de m'emener faire des teste mais "lis plus" ou "tes prof disent ça pour te faire plaisir" sont ses phrase preféré. funfact avec mon controle parental je ne fait QUE ça de lire..) mais quand je lui redemande du temps pour mes cours c'est NON. je suis bloqué.

Here is one epic game I've made!
I've woke up one morning and thought 'Can I count to 5'000 quicker than it takes a Eurostar train to travel non stop from London St.Pancras to Paris Dare Du Nord?' So I decided to go for it and see what happens.
This train will be traveling at speed of upto 300km/h (186 mph) and running bang on time.
I've done no practice or anything so this video was my very first time, there were slip ups and miscounts but I did my best to kept it to a minimum, I also kept getting distracted by receiving messeges and calls left, right and centre from friends and work colleagues, P-OFF!

Jump Notes

1. I wake up in my room in the warehouse apartments, after shutting myself in without even checking the Benefactor's Lounge the night before
   1. I'm still lingering on the frustration of not cracking the riddle of Allabar, and not being able to solve the problem permanently
   2. But there's no going back, so I commit to facing forward for the rest of the week, and head to the Benefactor room
      1. Once again, there are four envelopes with me, and my big chart of jumps up on the wall, like something from a Kindergarten classroom
      2. As I affix a sticker saying "The Fountain (2006)" to the big chart, a small round outline appears next to it: "Biosphere Supplement available"
   3. On my way to call a team meeting, I catch a surprise outside the apartments
      1. Three of our bard graduates are slowly exploring the area
   4. At the team meeting, I announce my intention to go solo on the next jump
      1. The decision isn't popular, but most of them have waited while I've done gauntlets before, so it's not a big shock
   5. We set up the entertainment room to watch the movie, even though I don't expect that meta knowledge will be much help
      1. For the first time, we don't all fit in the Entertainment room
      2. By count, there are eleven of us (me and ten companions), the Halflings are now up to fifteen after two recent births, and we have nine new bards with us, so we set up a second showing in the evening
   6. Finally, before heading in to the jump, I make one last check of the Benefactor's office to see if there's more information on the biosphere supplement, but though my note has been removed, there is no response, and nothing on the tablet
2. I awake from a deep sleep in a luxurious bed, it is early morning and the sun is still rising
   1. I can feel the absence of my abilities; I am reduced below even bodymod, to the level of a baseline middle-aged man in a world with primitive medicine
      1. Nevertheless, I can feel a gift reaching back in time to me - and as I accept it, I am calmed, no longer distressed by what I have lost
   2. In this time, I have duties, both in the mundane sense of the tasks those around me expect me to perform, as well as a greater sense in which I must try to make this world better
   3. My new gift becomes invaluable in due time
      1. All manner of petitioners and officers come to me with grievances, and each of them are a storm of emotions - no one comes before their Count to declare how satisfied they are with things
      2. In short time, word of my wisdom spreads, and my council is sought by King Ferdinand

3. I awake from a fitful sleep in a large bed, my wife still asleep beside me despite the chirping of my alarm clock
   1. My first throught is of the date - It is September 7, 1999 - the first day of fall semester
      1. This will not be my first time teaching CS 101, but this time will be different, I can feel the power in my body, my mind, and my soul
   2. I arrive at my office early, of course, and make sure everything is in order - the syllabus handouts are ready, my slides are in order and proof-read, and my TAs have confirmed their preparedness
      1. The lecure hall is large - so many students sign up for CS 101 without any prior programming knowledge, just to see what it's like, or convinced that they will be a natural
      2. As the students file in, they sparsely occupy the massive auditorium, afraid to sit near people they don't know, not fully understanding that for the vast majority of them, this is their first class on campus, their first opportunity to get to know eachother
      3. I exhort them to move towards the front so they can hear and see better, and a few oblige
      4. The first lecture flows like a breeze, the students hanging on my words as I understand what each one needs to hear to understand what the rest of this semester will hold
   3. By semester's end, the students and TAs are in awe, the CS department chair has asked for my materials and told me that spring registrations for CS102 are higher than ever, both of the student papers have run articles praising my class, and the dean of Arts and Sciences has interceded to clear my spring schedule to prioritize my research work on the condition that I teach 101 again next year
      1. I appreciate my grad students and TAs, but I don't have a real family in this life, so I head into the warehouse for winter break
4. I awaken rested and enthusiastic on a beautiful spring day
   1. It is graduation day for the first group of freshman I taught after coming to this jump, nearly four years ago
      1. They have come so far, and I'm fortunate that some of the best have continued to work with me, and three of them will be graduate students working under me starting in the fall
   2. It is also the first day of human trials for the drug, a new anti-inflammatory
      1. We were hoping it would treat chronic inflammatory diseases, but early testing suggests that it may significantly reduce hay fever, which would be great if we can mass produce it cheaply
   3. My reputation at the school has skyrocketed thanks to the combination of my groundbreaking research plus my teaching perks ensuring high instructor reviews as well as students learning and retaining more
      1. My tenure process has been fast-tracked, since the dean is rightly concerned about losing me to another institution
5. I awaken slowly, and awkwardly, as if from a coma, as a cocktail of drugs is released into my body, still restrained on my cryobed
   1. Our vessel, the Cyllene, is essentially a large asteroid with a hole carved in the middle, stuffed with propellent, equipment, supplies, expansive aquaponics facilities, and a relatively tiny living area
      1. Cyllene was said to have nursed and protected Hermes, as this vessel must nurture and protect us, the first observers, and hopefully, colonists,
   2. As my body and mind resume normal function over the course of 90 minutes, I get a slow trickle of updates on the status of the Cyllene and our mission
      1. The mission clock says it's 202 years since we left Earth, but thanks to time dilation, Earth has experienced 221
      2. Computer Block 5 (of 8) is currently undergoing automated reconstruction as the block with the highest error correction rate at the time the last automated reconstruction completed
      3. 1575 individuals are currently in cryosleep, and 25 (including me) are active, all sufficiently healthy
      4. I am still Dr. John Axstrom, revered teacher and groundbreaking computational pharmacologist, but my consciousness seems to have jumped forward a few hundred years, skipping past the development of miracle cures, life extension medications, and cryogenic preservation of humans
   3. As I realign with my memories and identity, I remember why I'm here
      1. If colonization proceeds, the coming generations are going to need exceptional teachers if they are to learn their place in the universe, and I'm one of the best there ever was
      2. Our mission is expected to take about 750 years from departure to arrival, and though the vast majority of that time is spent in cryosleep, we take shifts being "awake" to ensure systems are functioning and keep eachother mentally and physically healthy
   4. Since the monitoring systems will throw a fit if I straight up disappear from the vessel, I take a long ride out to the external "observation" check, out of the range of most of the sensor systems
      1. There's not really much to observe in deep space - it's like the night sky, as the ancients saw it with no light pollution, but from a different perspective
      2. Here I quickly form a stunt double duplicate, hand over my electronics, and duck into the warehouse
   5. The warehouse clock confirms my suspicions - I'm nearly seven years into the jump
      1. Since it looks like this isn't going to take nearly 1000 years, the team hasn't been going full-stasis mode
      2. The bards have been poring over J-Borg's personal library as well as the impressive collection of the warehouse media room
      3. But the reason I came is the Tablet of the Free - I'm stuck on a large but still confined deep-space vessel until my scheduled return to cryosleep - how is that supposed to entertain the boss?
      4. After confirming nothing interesting is in the warehouse, I head back to the observation deck, and stash the portable door I've been using back into hammer-space before re-merging with my stunt double, and taking the long trip back to the living area
6. I wake up to an unfamiliar synthetic beep - apparently the Cyllene's version of a doorbell
   1. When I open the door, one of my crewmates tells me that our directional antennas have picked up some unusual RF activity that seems to be coming from our destination system, and they want me (as the on-shift programmer) to help the astronomer, comms, and operations staff to help make sense of it, and ensure we're not about to get nuked by a magnetar or something
   2. Initial findings were sparse and inconclusive - just occasional pulses of a signal that must have been very strong and highly directional at the time of transmission, to reach us so far away
   3. But I had access to diagnostic tools that the astrophysicists and comms staff didn't, for all their training and equipment: a series of perks specifically for teasing out the needles of relevance from the haystack of noise
      1. And as I looked at what we were seeing, and what we weren't, the answer became clear: these radio bursts looked just like a primitive form of RADAR
      2. At first my colleagues on the Cyllene were skeptical, but the evidence kept mounting, with 4 additional series of "pings" being detected in the next six weeks
   4. With the spectre of extraterrestrial intelligence hanging over the Cyllene, our XO followed protocol, and ordered the full complement to be wakened from cryosleep to assist in the work to come
   5. Within six months, we had fabricated and installed a much larger purpose-built directional antenna array on the surface of our asteroid hull, and reports of different signals were coming in almost daily
      1. We needed all the extra hands, even our mining and terraforming experts were lending a hand with signal analysis and attempts to form patterns
      2. The whole crew felt the urgency and wondered at the situation - temporally, it would mean that their early experiments with RADAR and initial RF broadcasts would have happened at about the same time as humans did those things on earth, and if they developed at the same rate as us (a big if), they would likely be more advanced when we arrivedd than humans were when we left (and thus the technology of our vessel), and would almost certainly see us coming
   6. The coming months flew past, each bringing further confirmation of suspicious, but with it frustration, as we had been unable to extract a coherent signal - the broadcasts we could pick up didn't appear to be using either amplitude or frequency modulation
      1. More than once I brought signal samples to the warehouse team, but they were just as stumped as us
      2. Even more "esoteric" means didn't work - we tried every variation of "Tongues" and "Comprehend Language" spells on printed, audioized, and even engraved versions of the RF signals we caught, but they all failed and the representations seemed full of too many discontinuities
   7. I could feel my new Inventor's Vision working on the task of how to decode these signals, and about two years after the first pulse was detected, I had my breakthrough
      1. The signals didn't represent continuous audio (like human radio) or even piece-by-piece visuals (like rasterized video), but something of each, and a little weirder
      2. They were composed of many (from seven to three hundred, and not consistent at all) micro-audio clips
      3. It was like making an ultra-low bitrate recordding of the voice of every singer in a chorus individually, and transmitting fifty milliseconds of one, then fifty milliseconds of the next, and so one, in serial, and then starting back again with the first voice
      4. We couldn't figure out why they did this, but once I was able to identify the break points between each "voice", I could layer them on top of eachother to make a composite audio version
      5. And that composite audio could be played, and was a viable candidate for magic translation
   8. The entire vessel went wild when I demonstrated the isolation and recombination of the signals to produce audio
      1. The sound of the thing was somewhat like the sound of multiple birds, frogs, and crickets in a forest, in very brief clips
      2. Of course, I didn't reveal that I had access to magic translation - I figured the comms and signals staff (and the one cryptographer) should have to earn their pay
   9. The remaining year and a half was spent in intense research, for them, while I mostly slacked off and tried to make conversation with the people doing important work on this front, since my actual mission here was to "observe" as humans of this universe underwent a sort of assymmetrical first contact
7. I awaken in my weird little pod bed in my weird little capsule room for the last time, perfectly aware of the remaining hours in this jump
   1. After the initial excitement died down, the majority of the colonists were put back into cryosleep, with only the decoding specialists and those "on shift" like me staying active
      1. There has been a lot of anxiety around the Cyllene for the last few months - we are clearly a colony ship and the intelligent inhabitants of that system probably do not want to be colonized, and may well be easily capable of destroying us
      2. There were discussions about trying to reverse course and head back to Earth, but we could do that any time, and the closer we get, the more information we can gather about the system and its inhabitants
   2. It would be cruel to try to skim supplies from this vessel even if there were something I wanted aboard, so I just wait my time out, helping where I can and secretly translating any communications we receive when time permits
      1. So far it has all been rather uninspiring, which makes me even more curious what kind of species would develop radio technology but not transmit any fiction or speeches or poetry
   3. When it's almost time, I once again make the long trek out to the Cyllene's observation deck alone, and split off a Stunt Double, who can at least stay here for a month, while I slip into the warehouse
      1. When I enter, J-Borg greets me and informs me of a message at the Benefactor's lounge
      2. The note on the door says "Supplement Pending - please attend as soon as possible", so I go in to check it out
      3. With the choices all locked in, the door unlocks and I head out to meet with the team
   4. With the memories of my time in Spain finally restored, I realize how I had been trying to communicate with myself all along, but failing
      1. The need for calm communcation and education will never end - among our closest neighbors or with a civilization 300 light years away
   5. We have the traditional group dinner in the commons, and discuss what's going on
      1. The team did end up spending most of the time in stasis, and the formerly-newborn halflings are a little over a year now biologically, learning to speak and walk
      2. When I mention the Biosphere supplement and how I wasn't allowed to consult them, they naturally asked when it would apply, but it hadn't even occurred to me that there were now definitely too many of us to wait out warehouse changes in the entrance hall, so I checked with the central control
   6. Afterward, no one was complaining when the doors finally unlocked and we were able to leave the commons hall, only to find that the door led to an outdoor path with a natural-looking sunset on the horizon
      1. I didn't want to spoil the whole setup yet, so I said we could tour in the morning, and turned off a number of the facilities and systems for the night, to give me some time to understand what options were available before letting my companions go wild with them
      2. Fortunately, the obvious items like the tree of life and factory complex were on other islands, that would be difficult to reach without the transport disks running
   7. And then I went to sleep again, wondering what the next awakening had in store for me

Notes on the Fountain Jump Doc

1. Honestly this doc has been on my to-try list since I saw it - I really enjoyed the movie and gladly rewatched it again when it came up in my random draw.
2. The author took some liberties with the source material, which makes sense because of how focused on Thomas the story is, and the extensions largely make sense
3. There were a few confusing things in the jump, such as how you get essences and what powers you bring with you into each phase of the jump, but a close reading makes them clear enough
4. The jump has a few really standout purchase
   1. the inventor's intention is the answer to a lot of concers that "do-gooder" jumpers are likely to have in their careers
   2. the full tree of life is an amazing item - the ability to grant perfect health and immunity to aging within a regrowing item solves a lot of problems
   3. 500 years of practice is amazing if you have a particular skill or art in mind - literally centuries better than the "10 years of practice" equivalents that you find din many other jumps, and has a lot of potential to synergize with other perks that scale off your skill in a particular area
   4. Biosphere is super cool if you want your fiat-backed warehouse to grow into something more
   5. The Dagger of the Path is a great example of a conceptual weapon, and something I probably would have picked up if I had a bunch more points
5. How you're supposed to interleave the three eras is a little unclear, and maybe I'm not a creative enough author to pull it off. I don't believe SJ Chan ever got around to writing a fictionalized account of jumping to it, unfortunately
   1. If anyone else has done a good jump fiction of this jump, please let me know
6. Overall absolutely a fantastic jump. Obviously a great option for anyone who likes the movie or wants to solve one of the specific problems available
   1. I'd especially recommend it for an early-chain jumper because of the generally low danger level and great variety of rewards

Notes on the Biosphere Supplement Doc

1. I knew this was something I wanted to pick up when I first read the fountain jumpdoc several months ago
2. I use the "Personal Reality" warehouse which was co-authored by SJ Chan, and this supplement feels perfectly tailored to supplement that
3. There are lots of good pickups for people with various interests, or those who just want to keep their options open
   1. Observation Deck seems like the real must-have since a lot of the other buys are controllable through it
4. The structure of the biosphere was a little confusing at first - I thought that there was an island, a void around the island, and a hard shell, and wasn't sure why you'd want to increase the shell thickness, but further reading cleared that up
5. On the whole, a good pick up, especially considering it only cost 400 CP in the jump, and normally buying warehouse upgrades with CP has a very unfavorable conversion, but in this case, the biosphere purchases all seemed cheaper than they ought to be.
