2023.06.14 22:17 Maxifloxacin What foiler can get two 200 lb adult (182 kg) on foil in 10 knot. (low wind summer on lake Michigan)

Sorry about posting so frequently the past couple weeks... I am knee-deep researching this topic..
------------------------------------------------------------------------

The best thing I've found are these F18 Catamaran foilers like Nacra 18 or even the bigger Nacra 20. But after talking to couple shipyards and couple shops, They kind of all told me similar situation, these foilers are more designed for Europe or coastal US with more wind. They are saying the Nacra 18 FCS minimum lift off is around 13-14 knots.. (which at this wind speed I might as well just go regular windsurf foiling blasting around 1.5 times windspeed)...

Now I have to rethink this topic...Based on my very rudimentary windsurf foil calculation, to get 2 humans 400 lb, estimate boat weight 200 lb, 600 lb total. You need roughly 30 m^2 sail size. That seems like a lot....

Is this even possible? To get 400 lbs of meat up on foil in 10 knot.. Maybe cats are not the best foilers out there? is there anything else? Trimaran? monohull? etc.

If you a F20 18 17 16 Foilers owner, please reach out as well, what is the minimum liftoff windspeed.

Thanks!

--------------------------------
PS:I do see these IFLY15 catamarans. with Flight control wand and apparently can get up on foil in 6 knots w/ 1 up... I am in sales myself.. whenever I see these overwhelming amount of advertisements and videos, I cringe a little.. I see very few owners.. and very few 3rd party reviews.. i have extreme high doubt on this..

2021.09.06 20:09 deceased_parrot Seriously considering buying an F27 - and need good advice!

After saving up enough money, waiting and looking for the right opportunity, I've finally found my dream boat on sale - a Farrier F-27! However, now that it's within my grasp, I find myself hesitating. On one hand, I recently spent a week offshore on a different trimaran and it was the experience of my life. Having previously only day-sailed on monohulls I found the trimaran's speed in particular mesmerizing - and the F-27 is even faster! But on the other hand, my father (who served in the navy and used to do carpentry for boats) is telling me that boats are a waste of money and that I shouldn't bother. I've also never actually sailed on an F-boat and I have no idea what it's really like.
I guess what I'm looking for is advice from somebody that already owns one:
  1. How much experience should I have before getting my first boat? I probably have over 1000 nm under my belt, but that's as a crew member, not a skipper.
  2. How does the whole purchase process go? Should I get a marine surveyor first? Should I look specifically for ones with experience with trimarans (which might be hard to find)? Should I get a lawyer or a broker involved?
  3. It's a fairly old boat (30 or so years) - does that mean it'll keep its value and not depreciate further? Ideally I'd like to be one day able to sell it for more or less the same as I paid for it.
  4. I know it's a fairly small boat, but can it handle the occasional offshore trip? What about ocean crossings (probably not)?
  5. I've read that the maximum load is 1000 lbs - that's fairly low, even for coastal cruising. What happens if I go over that limit?
This community was really helpful with their advice in the past and I'm hoping you will all come through this time as well!

2016.07.21 07:40 Bohemian7 Looking for any info on the Maora trimaran.

I am interested in a small trimaran that was known as the Maora. It was a rotomold boat that was car toppable.
I am looking to get my hands on a new one, but the manufacturer seems to have gone belly up. I'd be interested in a used one in good shape if someone knows of one for sale.
I already spoke to a company in GA called direct boats, but they have no info for me, other than NLA.
Thank you for any help guys!

2011.06.23 01:53 B5_S4 Can r/sailing suggest some models for purchase?

Hey everybody, I am in the market for a used boat and I was hoping I could pool the collective experience of sailing to help make sure I'm not over looking any good boats.
I am young, and as such I have an obsession with speed. I do not want a cruiser or a day sailer, I don't need any family friendliness or amenities. I want a pure bred race boat. To me that means a monohull capable of planing or a performance multihull (not a beach cat). I have no preference to trimarans, cats or monohulls, though I don't see many performance trimarans for sale. I'm looking for something designed for two people to sail, anything around 16-20 feet with too much sail area and not much freeboard. I would definitely love to have a spinnaker (especially an asymmetrical one) but I'm willing to go without one.
Boats I have sailed in the past:
Boats I'm looking to purchase:
So sailing, is there a boat I should be looking at that I haven't seen? Something I may have overlooked? Post them up!
